Comparing Contrasting Essay
Crafting a "Comparing Contrasting Essay" can be a challenging endeavor that requires a delicate
balance between analysis, organization, and clarity. The difficulty lies not only in presenting a
comprehensive understanding of the subject matter but also in effectively highlighting the
similarities and differences between the elements being compared.
One of the primary challenges is the need for a thorough understanding of the topics under
consideration. Without a solid grasp of the subjects, it becomes challenging to draw meaningful
comparisons and contrasts. This necessitates extensive research and in-depth analysis to gather
relevant information and insights.
Furthermore, structuring the essay in a coherent manner poses its own set of challenges.
Ensuring a logical flow and seamless transition between points is crucial for the reader to follow
the argument effortlessly. Juggling between presenting similarities and differences while
maintaining a cohesive narrative demands a keen sense of organization and planning.
Another hurdle is finding the right balance in the depth of analysis. Striking the right chord
between providing sufficient details to support your points and avoiding unnecessary
information is an art. The essay should delve deep enough to offer meaningful insights without
overwhelming the reader with excessive details.
Moreover, the choice of language and expression becomes pivotal. Clarity and precision are
essential, and the writer must convey complex ideas in a manner that is easily digestible for the
audience. Striking the right tone and ensuring that the language is appropriate for the intended
audience is a nuanced aspect that adds to the intricacy of the task.
In conclusion, writing a "Comparing Contrasting Essay" requires a combination of research,
analytical skills, organizational acumen, and effective communication. The process can be
intricate, demanding careful attention to detail and a thoughtful approach to presenting
similarities and differences. However, with dedication and a systematic approach, one can
navigate through these challenges to produce a compelling and insightful essay.

Property Law Coursework Essay
Unregistered land is the title that is established from old fashioned title deeds and
is not to be found in the register of title governed by the Land Registration Act
2002. Unregistered land is land for which the title must be proved from the
conveyancing of history of the land by the title document i.e. the deeds and related
documents; and not by an inspecting register. Although this doesn t mean that land
doesn t have the opportunity to be registered. For this question the rights
considered are, firstly for Kate it is family rights and actual occupation, for Darryl
we are asking the question as to whether it is okay to pay rent to lease the land, for
Julie we are considering profits so establishing whether she can use the field as a...

In this case Lord Oliver held that the relevant time for determining occupation was the
date of completion of the transaction rather than the date of registration as the acts of
moving in were not sufficient to constitute actual occupation. In this case we can see
that Kate s interest wasn t sufficient even though it wasn t overreached but she didn t
have actual occupation as she wasn t living there and she wasn t in the country when
the Bungalow was bought.
Next we have to consider whether when Alexander confronted Darryl on trespassing
and Darryl showed the agreement from 2004 that allowed him to pay rent to lease
the land; this means we are asking the question as to whether this is allowed. Firstly
we consider that one of the main motives for letting the property is so that they can
generate an income through the payment of rent, this can be seen as Richard received
a payment of ВЈ100 per month from Darryl so that he could use the workshop. Lord
Templeman in Street v Mountford (1985) included rent as part of the definition of
tenancy; Section 205(1) (xxvii) of the Law of Property Act 1925 provides that a
term of years means a term of years whether or not at a rent. This means certain
types of leases need to be supported by rent in order to qualify for statutory
protection and this is
Joshamee Gibbs Archetypes Essay
What do Joshamee Gibbs (Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
/Terry Rossio) and Phileas Fogg (Around the World in 80 Days/Jules Verne) have
in common? Well, from a distance they have nothing in common. Joshamee Gibbs
is a pirate found in a blockbuster film. Passepartout is a french valet, from a book
written in the 1800s. But, as the reader dives into the characters and their behaviors,
a pattern or archetype can be seen. Archetypes are universal in every story and
narrative. For the hero, there are 3 archetypes: tragic, romantic, and epic heroes, but
for the other archetypes they are more broad and open to more variety. The hero is
the protagonist, or main characterin a film or book. The role of the companion is that

Passepartout tests Fogg s morals and character. Will he save his servant and risk
everything or leave him with the indians to possibly die? Companions often die, or
are left behind causing distress or mourning to the protagonist and may build the
character s determination and motivation to continue with their quest.
Dialogue between the companion and the hero is important to character
development. Because the companion is the protagonist s friend or helper, the
companions often talk with the protagonist about their feelings, ideas, and
thoughts. By expressing themselves the reader can get a better look into the hero s
true self through dialogue. In Pirates of the Caribbean: The Black Pearl the
protagonist, Will Turner, meets Jack Sparrow and his crew. Initially, he is disgusted
of them as he brutally expresses his hatred towards pirates to Jack sparrow. Which is
quite ironic, since he later finds out he is the son of a pirate.
Not a lot s known about Jack before he showed up in Tortuga with a mind to find
the treasure of the Isla de Muerta? That was before I d met him, when he captained
the Black Pearl. Wills head whips around swiftly. What? Will questions. Gibbs
chokes on his alcohol. He failed to mention that Will exclaims softly. Gibbs pauses
and explains, He plays things closer to the vest now. A hard learned lesson it was.
Three days out on the venture, the first mate says, everything s an equal share. That

Hair Dyeing
Throughout history, women would follow the local trend set by the beauties of
their time such as Marilyn Monroe and Princess Diana as to what should be done to
their hair. It has gone from gilded braids during the time of the Egyptian Queen
Cleopatra to colorful updos today. Almost all of us have a desire to change our hair
color. Women like to dye their hair to change their physical appearance or they just
like follow the trend. Some of us use hair dye or hair bleach without realizing how
damaging it is to our hair. Hair Coloringis when you change the color of your
natural hair. Before the 1900 s, people would use natural dyes and herbs to color
their hair. The Egyptians were the first to color their hair using henna to hide their

Dying your hair is a great form of self expression. Whether you go blonde, brunette,
or dye your hair a crazy color like blue or pink, its your decision. Another good
reason to dye your hair is to hide those gray hairs. Many adults dye their hair to
appear younger. The negative side effects of dying your hair is that your hair gets
dry and brittle because of the chemicals.Since the chemicals are going into your
scalp, it becomes irritated and starts to tingle. If you over apply hair bleach, this
can lead to major damage causing the hair to break anyway on the shaft resulting
to hair loss. Many of us prefer to dye our hair at home. At home colors are cheaper
and their prices vary from $8 to $20. These products have a higher volume of
peroxide so that it can lighten darker hair. This can be dangerous for your hair
because it will affect future coloring and you will have to treat the hair growing
differently that the colored hair. It is a bit safer to get your hair professionally
done at a salon. You may pay a little over $100 but the dye will be less harsh. By
law they are required to perform a patch test using the right amount of peroxide for

Marcus Brutus In William Shakespeare s Julius Caesar
Julius Caesar was a man who could declare war on all of Rome and his people
would still cheer for him. Julius Caesar was very brave but prideful and egotistical.
This abundance of power and support along with his attitude are some of the many
reasons certain members of the senate rose in opposition against Caesar. One of the
conspirators was Marcus Brutus a good friend and close confidant to Caesar. In
Shakespeare s Julius Caesarthe reader is presented with a choice of who to side with,
however, the conspirators were validated in their fears of Caesar and his growing
influence. If they had not done something then, Rome would have perished.
The willingness of citizens to turn against Pompey and, to a certain extent, Rome
itself for Caesar is a testament to why the conspirators killed Caesar. In the
beginning of Shakespeare s work Marullus says, Didn t you know Pompey? Many
times you climbed up on walls and battlements, towers and windows even chimney
tops with your babies in your arms, and sat there patiently all day waiting to see the
great Pompey ride through the streets of Rome. And now you put on your best
clothes? And now you take a holiday? (act1, sc1). The people of Rome were willing to

In the second act Caesar says, in response to his wife s pleading for him to stay at
home, ВЁThe gods do this to test my bravery. They re saying I d be an animal
without a heart if I stayed home today out if fear. So I won t. Danger knows Caesar
is more dangerous than he is. I will go out.ВЁ In this we are shown Caesar s true
nature. When his wife reveals to him the dreams that she and the servants have
been having he simply ignores her warnings. He then speaks of how he is more
dangerous than danger itself. This is a brilliant example of the size of his ego. There
are other examples of Caesar s ego but this one shows it the
My Brother s Gameboy Essay
As a child the things that meant the most to me were shiny, colorful, and utterly
unattainable. From a young age I was taught that taking what was not yours without
asking was unbelievably wrong and would result in a never ending timeout. Fearing
an eternity spent sat in a corner thinking about what I had just done I made an early
habit of asking for things I wanted and forgetting about the things I could not have.
Unfortunately this lifestyle could only last so long and so at only four years old the
temptation became too much and I had convinced myself that the only solution was
to take what was not given to me. The year was 2001 and my older brother had
recently been given a brand new GameBoy Advanced. This incredible technological...

Confused I exclaimed You died. It s my turn! to which Joey quickly retorted I did
not! They just fainted there is no death in this game. You don t get a turn. Stunned, a
feeling mixed between betrayal and disappointment washed over me. I had asked
nicely and yet I was denied the chance to play. Unsure of what to do with myself
now that I was not allowed to have the one thing I desired I found my way to my
room. Needing a place to think I rolled under my bed and let the emotions settle in.
Disappointment won out as the more overwhelming emotion and I began to plot a
way to take what I felt was rightfully mine. I soon realized that I had no real idea of
how to enact my plan and became more frustrated. I knew I needed a second
opinion and intended to speak to Lucky when I realized that in my fit of despair I
had left him behind. I decided that a rescue mission was in order and climbed out
from under my bed. Sneaking through the house I reached my brother s room and
was shocked to find only Lucky there. I raced over lifting him from the bed and
hugging him close knowing he was once again safe. I turned to leave but right
before I could I noticed a faint noise coming from within the blankets. Lifting them I
found true temptation. There sat Joey s GameBoy taunting me as I stared in
wonderment. It dawned on me that I could just go back to my room and find a
different way to get the chance to play but with no one in sight I decided that taking

The Wizard Of Oz And The Populist Movement
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L.Frank Baum has been an excessively popular
fairy tale among the kids and adults. It has provided us with great plays and musical
comedies. As most of us do not tend to relate a fairy tale with the political
movements happening around us, Henry Littlefield was the first to write an
outstanding article The Wizard of Oz: Parable on Populism in which he made a bold
inference that the Wizard of Oz was a book that portrayed the United States of
America as it entered the twentieth century. He argued that the story was perhaps a
metaphor for the Populist movement. After doing much research on both the
Wizard of Oz and Littlefield s article I can say that the children s fairy tale by
Baum was indeed a parable on Populism. The Populist movement was a rising third
party of angry farmers and factory workers. The idea behind this movement was to
take the power away from bankers and business leaders. Baum was a supporter of
William Jennings Bryan, presidential candidate for Democratic Party. Bryan
supported the laboring class of the economy, his main concern was adding silver to
the nation s gold standard (49). They wanted money to be silver based since silver
was available in the Mid West and in doing so; the banks would no longer be able
to manipulate the money supply. The goal of the participants of the party such as
Baum was to break the power of the concentrated corporates. During the same time
in 1890 s a severe depressions caused businesses to go bankrupt, farmers to sell their
lands and factories were being shut down leaving workers unemployed. The Populist
Party believed that switching to silver would pump money in the economy and
would at least keep the businesses going. The Wonderful Wizard of Ozprojects its
message in a very subtle unsuspected way. For a child the story is just a magical
story full of colors but underlying the colors Baum created a children s story with a
symbolic allegory implicit within its story line and characterization (50). The book
is full of symbolism, when Dorothy lands on West Witch with her house, she is
given a pair of silver slippers by the Good Witch of the North. She is
Why I Am An Engineer
1.Choosing to be an Engineer was one of the easiest choices I ve had to make in
my life. I ve grown up being told engineering is one of the best majors to have. My
mom is a mechanical engineer and since day one she s been helping me develop
skills and knowledge that engineers have. I remember being in kindergarten and my
mom would sit me down at the kitchen table at my grandma s house and she taught
me basic algebra. She taught me how to think critically and problem solve. She
helped me in all my academic courses, and taught me math from 6th grade trough my
junior year in high school. Majoring in engineeringwas never a question, what type
was always the big question. When I was fourteen I underwent a few extensive
surgeries. All though the surgeries weren t fun to experience it peaked my interest
in how the body self heals. The idea of becoming a doctor quickly crossed my
mind. Junior year after my most recent surgery I came across Utah State s
engineering programs and learned of biological engineering. It seemed to fit me
best. It is the perfect undergraduate degree. It has plenty of science, my favorite
subject; easy path for pre health, if I so desire to take that route; and it is a form of
engineering, the best major to have. I never had resistance in becoming an engineer,
if anything I had pressure to become one. It was never bad pressure, it was the kind
I need and appreciate from my family, teachers, and friends. They helped me
recognize my natural abilities and
Transition Into Adulthood
I was standing on the side, waiting for my turn; half heartedly watching the person
before me, admittedly too engrossed in myself. My hands were shaking so hard I
thought they might fall off. Sweat was beginning to roll down my face. After what
felt like years, it was my turn to take the stage. As I walked out with my head held
high, I entered adulthood in the danceworld. This pivotal transition from childhood
to adulthood is the first solo performed at a competition. My first solo was almost
seven years ago, when I was about ten, and it was one of the most nerve wracking
experiences I ve ever had. It all began when my dance teacher asked me if it was
something I would be interested in, and of course I was. I was filled to the brim with
Autism Spectrum Disorder Impairs Social Skills, Behavior,...
Autism spectrum disorders are a class of developmental disorders that impair social
skills, behavior, and communication (Center for Disease Control). ASDs are
considered spectrum disorders because each patient has a unique experience in the
nature and severity of their symptoms (Center for Disease Control). Under the
umbrella of ASDs, there are three types of disorders, including Autistic disorder,
Asperger Syndrome, and Pervasive Developmental DisorderNot Otherwise Specified
(Center for Disease Control). Autistic disorder is the most severe of the three, and
patients exhibit significant problems with language, communication, and behavior
(Center for Disease Control). Furthermore, people with Autistic disorder often have
some intellectual impairment (Center for Disease Control). Asperger Syndrome is
a milder form of autistic disorder where patients have some developmental delays,
but their language and intellect are not affected (Center for Disease Control). The
mildest of the ASDs is the pervasive developmental disorder. These patients usually
don t meet all of the criteria for autistic disorder, but do show some signs of social
and communication problems (Center for Disease Control). The number of children
diagnosed with ASD is growing, and currently 1 in 88 children fall somewhere on
the spectrum (Mari Bauset et al., 2013). Boys are four times more likely than girls to
have autism, and while the exact cause of these disorders is unknown, both genetic

Economic Implication Of European Union s Expansion
An analysis of economic implication of European Union s Expansion
European Union is the largest and most powerful economic alliance in the world. The
European Union has succeeded to considerably expand its influence in the past 20
years. The three models of enlargement and the strengthening of the actual EU s
economic along with political presence throughout its neighborhood are among the
most remarkable successes of its post Cold War history. The European Unionis
probably the key facilitators of stability within the Western Balkans; it represents a
good institutional and normative spine for Eastern Neighborhood countries and acts

Closer co operation with all the EU and a possible accession to the community had
been a common strategic fundamental for people and European procedures vis Г vis
Turkey, the Western Balkan countries as well as for the Far eastern partners. Besides
NATO, the EU became the most robust institutional link in transatlantic community a
well acknowledged fact both in Brussels and Washington. The EU and a few of its
new member states also developed a substantial coercive authority, because of the
dominance in unusual trade, the area economic subsidies and within other locations
traditionally subscribed to soft power. Judging by these instruments, as well as
increased global weight, the EU could acquire a robust influence and a institutional
credibility in its broad local community.
The European Union (EU) has prolonged viewed the enlargement process as an
extraordinary opportunity to market political stability along with economic prosperity
in Europe. Since 2004, EU membership has produced from 15 to be able to 28
countries, earning most states involving Central and Western Europe and gratifying
an historic pledge to help promote the integration from the continent by peaceful
means. Croatia will be the EU s newest new member, acceding to the EU on July 1,

probably the EU s most strong policy tools, knowing that, over the many

which has 9000 staff members diverse across different office branches around the
world. The assessment plan offers a wide view of the business situation to set up a
new location of the WWTC in New York in United States as its branch office to

Comparing The United States And Switzerland
Trying to compare the United States to Switzerland is quite difficult, especially
when there are many differences between the states of America. So the easiest is
to compare the general aspects across the board, and for the smaller differences I
can only compare it with Texas, since I have lived there my whole life. The first
major difference is the food, of course the food is different all across Europe
compared to the United States, just because we have different types of food. In
America we like to imitate other countries food, trying to bring different cuisines to
everyone s diet. For example; Italian, Greek, Chinese, Asian, and many other
different cuisines. Swiss food you rarely see in America, like the fondue, that is
something America has put a twist on, trying to imitate that certain dish. Roclette has
just now been introduced to America, and it s one of the bigger hits now, but it is
nice to know we have had it in Switzerlandfrom where it is originally from. Another
difference in food, is that nothing in Switzerland is processed, no preservatives, no
high fructose corn syrup, and no dyes. Another thing that is different with the
foods, is having freshly produced chocolate that is out of this world. It is a
disappointment to go back to America and crave chocolate to only have the options
of either getting Hershey s, which will not taste as good or as smooth, or find
European chocolate for more than $5. But not all of American food is bad, we are
known for
The Integrated Marketing Communications Textbook
Chapter seven of the Integrated Marketing Communications textbook was discussed
in great detail during weeks nine and ten of the semester. This section of the book
addresses how online and interactive communications play a vital role towards
interactions in the modern world. The goal of this chapter is to effectively
incorporate online advertisements to deliver messages to dedicated consumers. Over
the course of this paper, it will become clear as to how a current news articleapplies
theory from lectures and the textbook to enhance online communications. The Globe
and Mail newspaper article depicts a Toronto police officer using Twitter to
encourage students to treat one another with respect, demonstrate to adults that not
all cops are bad people, and emphasize the importance of online communications in
a technologically developed society. Officer Chris Boddy s objective is to show
respect and interest in the lives of others, to create a positive reputation for himself
and his police force.
Theory from chapter seven of the textbook explains that generation Y, those between
18 34 years of age, are relying on online sources of media to obtain knowledge and
understanding of what is currently happening around the globe. Statistics Canada
explains that 95% of Canadian households have access to the Internet, with a monthly
average of 45 hours spent online. Outside of the home, citizens of all ages have
access to online sources of media through tablets, smartphones and
The Brokedown Palace

over there. They were tricked by a guy who they met in a hotel in Bangkok who
tried to use them as heroine smugglers. They were arrested, put into jail and
entered a whole new unimaginable struggle towards getting themselves free from
there. The movie had a clear message which focused on exposing the flaws of the
Thai legal system. I d give the movie a rating of 3.5 stars out of 5. The movie starts
with talking about the lifelong friendship of Alice and Darlene since they were little
kids. The two girls were planning
Analyzing Mary Oliver s Essay A Few Words
Subject: Mary Oliver s essay, A Few Words is about mankind believing they can take
something as dignified, real, and powerful as nature, and make it into a submissive
tool, they can control, manipulate and lord over.
Thesis: Mary explains her essay with use of the word cute and she does it by
associating it with others expressions that means fake, plastic, diminutive, powerless
and trainable, and inferring that nature is not cute, but wild and powerful.
Oliver s use of the word cute is one term I never considered colored. When I first
read her essay, I figured she meant civilization and control was cute , but as I read on
I realize that the term cute is a negative connotation that in her opinion means
submissive and controlled.
Anticommunist Crusade During The Cold War
The Cold War was a time of strife between the United States of America and the
Soviet Union after World War II. During the war, the two countries were allied against
Nazi Germany, however, after the war ended it left the two superpowers at odds on
many political and economic issues. During the 1950 s the anticommunist crusade, in
my opinion, was a direct threat to the freedom President Truman, in particular, spoke
about. President Truman vetoed and disagreed with many laws and practices that
went on during the time, such as McCarren Internal Security Act. I consider it to be a
time after the war when the government pushed patriotic propaganda while using that
as the launching pad to continue segregation, racism and pushing their own political
Theme Of Dreams In Troilus And Criseyde
Chaucer also demonstrates that dreams are layered with meaning and may serve as a
tool for an intertextual analysis of literature and poetry when amalgamated into
poems themselves. It encourages metareflection and the use of dream visions within
Chaucer s work alternates between a formulaic device or a significant and divine
vision into the future. It becomes apparent that the dream is an effective and
fundamental device for writing narratives that question reality, faith, and agency. The
dreams in Troilus and Criseydetake various forms, altering shape under careful
observation.
Criseyde s dream is seemingly a prophetic somnium, which predict future events or
divulge hidden truths of the past. In addition, it can also be strongly argued that this
dream is fabricated from the subconscious of Criseyde as she is already starting to
love Troilus, however, is not wholly ready to acknowledge this, even to herself. These
two interpretations add further evidence of ambiguity in Chaucer s work as it
remains uncertain which one was intended by the author. Perhaps Chaucer too was
questioning the established attitudes of his contemporary society in such a way that
can be seen to predict future theories of human understanding and dream
interpretations.
Boccaccio s indifferent mentions of the heart is referenced to internal thoughts or
in relation to the affliction of love sickness. However, there are three instances
where Troilo refers to Criseida as heart of my body, and two where Criseida returns
this expression. The wording implies the exchange of hearts, a motif only included
in Troilo s dream of Criseida and the boar. (VII. 24) Boccaccio s desire may have
been for his Italian readers to grasp the literal implication of how the beast s attack
on the woman s heart will hurt the hero s heart because her heart is also his vice
versa. Chaucer explores this motif in Criseyde s dream of the white eagle, which
according to Medieval allegory and moral, received both favourable and unfavourable
interpretations.
Chaucer depicts a characteristically fierce bird of prey who viciously devours flesh
with severe ferocity: the longe clawes that rente her breast initially threatens Criseyde
with physical harm. (II. 925 31) The

Unrequited Love In My Wicked Wicked Ways By Sandra
Cisneros
Unrequited Love If society was a person in itself, it would be a criminal. It has
deceived human beings into believing that love is supposed to be something that is
always beautiful, euphoric and extremely powerful. It pressures individuals into
commitment, passion and desire while simultaneously reminding them that an excess
of one thing is not good. Society need to make up its mind. As the world knows, love
is not simply defined as a group of words; rather, it is many things that are rooted to
deep affection. Love presents itself in different shapes, forms and sizes, but what
happens to this endearment when it is one sided? The sole attribute that every
individual seek has the potential to destroy most. Unrequited love poisons the

Sandra Cisneros illustrates in the poem My Wicked Wicked Ways a conflicted
picture of a broken family. It presents the idea of unrequited love. The mother of
the speaker is holding onto a man that has another partner, besides herself.
Evidently, the father possesses strong feelings and emotions towards his beloved
mistress. However, the mother belittles herself and accepts the infidelity. The
hidden message behind Here is my mother / She is not crying reveals that the
mother is unhappy about the abuse of her love and trust, but pretends to be okay
for the sake of her child (Cisneros 185). Love and commitment goes hand and hand;
it is impossible to have one without the other. Therefore, this example illustrates that
the father does not wholeheartedly love his spouse. In consequence, his wife
suffers emotionally and relinquishes these emotions through tears. The effects of
this emotional abuse inflicted by unrequited love can subtly range from mood
swings to a complete emotional shutdown. Crying is her most effective outlet. The
poem continues with She cannot look into the lens /because the sun is bright, as it
creates an excuse for the agony inflicted (Cisneros 185). It is evident that the
mother of the speaker is only allowed to grieve short term. Rather, she masks her
emotions and allows it to kill her inside than to be portrayed as emotionally weak.
Similar to the mother, most individuals that experience unrequited love tends to hide
their sorrows because of shame. They are not only ashamed of their partners
inability to love them correctly but at themselves for being ignorant to that fact.
Many become angry at the world, few are in denial; most endure hopelessness, and
others fall into a deep abyss of depression. What every individual that has
experienced these one sided expectations have in common is that they are all
unhappy. Depression is the worst consequence of it all,
National Security And Homeland Security
Intelligence deals with the process in which specific types of information has been
collected, analyzed, refined and provided to the policy makers, so that it will be
useful to them in decisions making about potential threats to national security and
homeland security (Lowenthal, 2014, p. 10). U.S Government has been benefiting
from Intelligence information since the beginning of the country, despite the fact that
many people thought that U.S intelligence emanated as a result of cold war
(Federation of American Scientists, 1996). For instance, the Office of Naval
Intelligence was created in March 1882 followed by the formation of the Military
Intelligence Division three years later, charged to collect foreign and domestic

Maha considers this item as one of her greatest achievements since it was the first
medal she received here in Canada. It must make a person extremely proud to
receive an award in their first year in a brand new country. Maha carried on to tell
her class that she received the Greatest Strides Award in elementary school after
her recent arrival in Canada. When she moved from Saudi Arabia, it was her first
time attending a school here and everything was absolutely different in the
education system to her, how everything ran and how students were taught. The
school she attended back in Saudi Arabia had so many differences with the schools
as she said it took time to adjust and fit in. Maha soon went deeper into the subject
by explaining that the school she went to, Ashgrove Public School gave out year end
awards which were the Citizenship Award, the Greatest Strides Award, and the
Kindness and Caring Award. Three students from every class would receive an
award. Maha finished by mentioning that this item was one she has always been and

Essay on Gone Baby Gone
Gone Baby Gone
Dennis Lehane writes satisfyingly complex and disturbingly violent crime fiction that
often crosses into thriller territory. These are not, however, cheap thrills. Even in
their goriest moments, his books are grounded in rich, real life detail. Lehane knows
Boston and its denizens, and he captures the city s subcultures beautifully from the
hushed refinement of the old money suburbs to the grittiness of tacky motels and bail
bond agencies. He has a unique way of presenting his mysteries with an edge of the
seat feeling, yet his descriptive methods brings one into his neighborhoods and gives
one the feeling that they lived there their entire life.

This was not the first time she had ever left Amanda home alone while she went
out on the town. Helene is also into drugs. In fact, all evidence leads back to a man
in prison, Cheese Olamon. Cheese is a drug dealer that Helene had done some work

Cheese.
200 grand missing would make you mad, right? Would it make Cheese mad
enough to take Amanda rather than take it out on Helene? The title of the book
comes from a warning Cheese gives Patrick, Without me, that girl will be gone.
Gone gone. You understand? Gone, baby, gone. (p. 239) Reading it, it makes you
think Cheese has Amanda and is toying with our protagonists. But as Cheese says
himself a little later, Whatever you think happened, you re not even in the ballpark.

Another child is reported missing. Angie stayed obsessed with Amanda s
disappearance even though no new leads were given. She pored over their case
files; desperately searching for something they missed. This new disappearance
restores Angie and Patrick s vigor for finding Amanda. But are they any closer than
they were a year ago?
The end of the book finds the child, but far deeper

The Development of the Centre for Migration Studies Irish Emigration Database
In 1988 the Ulster American Folk Park (UAFP) near Omagh in Co Tyrone,
Northern Ireland began to set up a computerised Irish Emigration Database (IED)
in its library. This was a ground breaking project at that time and was immediately
beset by problems of all kinds, the details of which will be explained later. By 1997
the Folk Park s library had expanded to become the Centre for Emigration Studies and
eventually the Centre for Migration Studies (CMS). The latter is now funded jointly
by the Scotch Irish Trust of Ulster in partnership with DCAL (Department of Culture,

SETTING UP AND STAFFING
The British Council funded Ms Joan Reedy, from Boston, Massachusetts, to work on
the project in Belfast during 1989/90 and Dr Katharine Brown from Virginia, and
Ms Maureen Macauley, also from Boston, during 1991/92. They all did some
excellent work for the Database and were a tremendous asset to the project. All other
workers have been appointed via unemployment training schemes.
After a year initially working at PRONI a new government training scheme was
introduced to replace the old Ace Scheme. This entailed recruiting trainees who
would earn only ВЈ10 per week, on top of their unemployment benefit. The
prospects of recruiting well qualified people to process the documents looked bleak.
However, after a short while we began to build up a number of trainees who were
interested in the work.
The main Training and Employment Agency was Enterprise Ulster http:/

when unemployment was high there could be 12 13 trainees at a time working at our
Belfast office.

Weekend as Didactic Self Reflexive Cinema According to Stephen Prince in
Movies and Meaning: an Introduction to Film, Screen Reality is a concept that
pertains to the principles of time, space, character behavior and audiovisual design
that filmmakers systematically organize in a given film to create an ordered world
on screen in which characters may act and in which a narrative may unfold.(262)
One mode of cinematic screen reality is self reflexivity. While the other three modes
of screen reality seek to sway the audience into accepting the authenticity of the world
and the story that are on screen, the self reflexive style deliberately attempts to tear

Weekend represents the culture of political violence and social experimentation,
artistic and sexual, which was the latter half of the 1960s. This somewhat comic
but depressing film of Godard s is a satirical poem and construct of the contempt
with which he obviously holds bourgeoisie society. Much of the film expresses this
through the use of symbolism and metaphor. In order to better facilitate the process
whereby the audience becomes aware of Godard s intentions and his message he
introduces us to a young Parisian married couple. Godard sets the clichГ©d
couple, alienated and bourgeois, on a journey for Corinne s parents country house,
hoping to find them either dead or willing to sign the will. As they persist in their
journey we are given various opportunities to appreciate the absolute complacency
and ignorance of the couple (meant to be emblematic of all bourgeois). Godard
tries to peel off the hypocrisy of bourgeois society through the weekend trip of this
Parisian middle class couple. Weekend is a clear continuation of the style, and even
ideology, which originated with Brecht s work in the theater. Jean Luc Godard
weaves didactic self reflexive techniques throughout the film, in order to break the
illusion that the spectator is watching a real, authentic world on screen rather than a
movie. In doing so, Godard finds the ability to share his discourse directly with the
audience instead of employing characters to do the job for
The Native American Spirit Quest Of A Half Indian Foster...
Sherman Alexie s novel Flight explores the Native American spirit quest of a half
Indian foster child. Alexie brilliantly invites readers into the mind of a cynical
fifteen year old who calls himself Zits. Zits uses humor, violence, and shock value
to cope with how he has been treated by his absent father and the foster system. Zits
uses his vocabulary as a defense mechanism which reveals how comfortable he
feels in various situations. The following paragraphs analyze how Zits speech
patterns provide insight to how he feels about certain characters and situations.
Zits uses a distinctive naming system when he is unaware of a character s real
name. Zits method of naming characters reveals how comfortable he is talking
about them. He bases most of his names on appearance. For instance, Zits sees a
young Indian boy while he is in the body of Gus and he observes that the Indian
can t be more than five years old and he holds a bow (pg. 59). Zits then refers to
this character as Bow Boy for the remainder of the book (pg. 59). Zits uses this
method for naming almost every character he meets. Characters that he likes are
given names such as Small Saint while characters he feels anger toward often
remain unnamed (pg. 61). For example, Zits mother, father and grandfather are
never mentioned by name. Zits method of naming also reveals how he feels about
himself. I m ashamed that I look like a bag of zits tied to a broomstick (pg. 9).
Therefore, his name reveals how he
As Feminism Has Emerged In Popular Media In Recent
Years,
As feminism has emerged in popular media in recent years, another gender movement
has similarly become visible. This movement is called Men s Rights Activism
(MRA), also commonly known as meninism. Feminism and meninism have both been
given a strong negative connotation by the media, often representing them with the
image of an outspoken, somewhat radical, advocate. Genderand Women s Studies
classes have shined a light on how this does not fully encompass what feminism
represents. In present day, feminism can be seen as positive and uplifting by many
people, not just women, yet meninism has barely been mentioned other than in an
unfavorable manner. Is MRA really such a negative movement, founded on hate?

This ideology has remained the same today, but with a slight modern twist.
As many other areas of study, technology has been very influential in the MRA.
Specifically, it is a way that they have been able to become more visible than ever
before. Many more websites and forums surrounding the topic of Men s Rights
have popped up in recent years. One website in particular, The Men s Activism
News Network, is an online forum that aims to provide pro male activists with news
and information that will aid them in working toward establishing equal rights for
men and the improvement of men s lives. ( The Philosophy ) It is important to note
that nowhere in their philosophy do they mention the need to disprove feminist
ideas, but in the frequently asked question section of their website the topic is
brought up. When asked about their view on feminism they stated, Feminism, if
allowed to continue unchallenged, represents a serious threat to the well being of
men and boys. ( The Philosophy ) The feeling of victimization is just one way in
which their views align with the original consensus of MRA groups. This is just one
organization s ideas, but other groups have similar beliefs.
Every one of these many groups cannot be looked at thoroughly, however Robert
Menzies, a professor of sociology, studied multitudes of these Men s Rights and
antifeminist men s websites. He noted prominent themes such as feminism is

Eating On The Cheap Essay
Eating On the Cheap: Surviving At All Costs
A previous article talked about lessons we could learn or have learned from the
great depression of the 1920 s and 30 s. When many if not most of the people at the
time were essentially broke, food became a big problem, especially for those living
in the cities because they could not step out their back door and pick a hand full of
corn or tomatoes for dinner, or grab the hatchet and go collect Sunday dinner from the
henhouse. Their food was processed by others and then delivered to stores, but soon
the deliveries stopped because the meat packing plants closed, the delivery drivers
were laid off, and many merchants shuttered their doors. Food was scarce.

The Scientific Revolution
The Scientific Revolution revolutionized the middle ages. The concepts of
secularization, scientific method, heliocentrism, as well as the creation of major
fields of science. The Scientific Revolution paved the way for modern science. Much
of the work that created during the sixteenth and seventeenth century is still
considered to be the foundation of many major fields such as chemistry, physics,

the Protestant and the Catholic churches. Matter of fact, science was encouraged by
the church. However, the church had control over the scientist and would commonly

was used to determine the laws of nature. The Scientific Method was first developed
in the seventeenth century and became the standard of truth seeking. The old

Why Is China Weak Or Strong
Are Women in China Weak or Strong?
For years, it has been debated on whether or not women in China were weak or
strong. In China, women were regarded as the lesser gender. Yet, does that
necessarily mean that women in China are weak? There are facts supporting both
opinions, but I believe there are more signs pointing towards how resilient and strong
women actually are. Women in China were exceptionally strong despite being
persecuted for their gender; Although these women were required by tradition to
serve their husbands or bind their feet, they still lived and conquered on. The three
main points I believe that show how strong women from China are is that women are

One example of this is a quote which states Apart from these offerings, human
sacrifices, were performed so Fu Hao would have servants in the afterlife. ; Fu Hao
was also a military leader, a shaman / priestess, and an influential politician who
lived a life that Chinese women only dreamed about. This quote serves to remind
that Fu Hao received not only the same treatment as men in China, but also was
buried the same way that pharaohs in Egypt were buried. It also speaks wonders to
the fact that if her husband did not respect her, she would not be. An additional quote
that speaks volumes about this particular issue is, as mothers and mother in laws, a
good deal of honor . Something that men need/needed to keep in mind about women
was that without a woman, they would not be alive. No matter what society, place,
or time period that someone was or is living in, women do have motherhood
working in their advantage, and motherhood is not something that will or ever can
be taken away from women. The third and last quote is, if a man died and his sons
were not yet old enough to be the head of the family, the women would fill the

if women were through not respected, then there would have been a different way
or some other person to lead . This shows respect because putting your son or son s

Essay On Brain Tissue
Brain tissue can be classified into three tissue types; grey matter (GM), white matter
(WM) and cerebro spinal fluid
(CSF). Initially, all MR images are segmented into three images, each represents one
tissue type. The segmented images are then registered iteratively with their average to
estimate the deformations that best align the images together. These deformations are
used to generate spatially normalized and smoothed gray matter images. The image
values after seg mentation represent the probability of belonging to the tissue

misalignment of structures when the registration is imperfect. Third, it can increase

smoothing renders the data more Gaussian distributed, improving the validity of the
commonly used Gaussian random field (GRF) theory thresholding approach.
Typically between 4 and 16 mm full width half maximum (FWHM) smoothing (with

Comparison Of Chinatown And The Big Sleep
Comparing ChinaTown and the Big Sleep
ChinaTown, directed by Roman Polanski, is a non traditional hard nosed detective
film made in the 70 s. The typical elements of character type are there; J.J. Gittes (a
private detective in LA) played by Jack Nicholson is the central character, sharing the
spotlight is Fay Dunaway playing the femme fatale Evelyn Mulwray. This film
breaks all types of norms when compared to the hard nosed detective films it is

from scenes of Marlowe and Vivian. Chinatown has formal elements indicative that it

This would have never happened to Marlowe. Gattis looked like a fool.
Gettis couldn t get a one liner right if his nose depended on it. Throughout the film
Gettis is screwing up jokes or lines that were meant to be sharp and humorous. In
opposition to Gettis, Marlowe is socially smooth and rather witty. You could almost
say Gettis is clumsy and crass. The impression we are left with about Gettis is
normalizing. Gettis loses the stature that comes with a protagonist filled with
bravado. He comes off kind of plain, almost corny, a regular guy.
As a detective Gettis has done very well by himself. He has Venetian blinds in his
office, wears a well tailored white suit and seems to be wealthy from his trade. In
contrast, Marlowe from the Big Sleep is barely getting by with P.I. work. It is
implied that he isn t materialistic and it wouldn t out of character for him to do work
Pro bono. Gettis is a P.I. known mostly for divorce work (catching adultery) and
spying on the unsuspecting. As a protagonist he doesn t come off very ethical.
Polanski didn t make a character the audience would love right off the bat. Supplying
Curly with pictures of his wife s adultery in the opening scene doesn t paint Gettis
into a picture of the model for ethics.

The Contribution Made by Feminist Sociologists to the Study of the Family
Feminists stress that gender is a major feature of family living, they argue that it
should be recognised that families contain both men and women and that gender
often has a profound impact on the ways in which the individuals actually experience
and understand living in families. They highlighted patriarchy and a need for change
and women s independence. However there are a variety of feminisms such as
liberal, radical, Marxist and difference which have all made their own contribution.

Many Marxist feminists believe the family is an obstacle to gender inequality in
employment. The say women are disadvantaged in employment due to domestic and
childcare responsibilities which is stereotyped as a female s duty. The also believe
that the family is patriarchal as men and women s role in the family are
fundamentally unequal in terms of economic gain and emotional satisfaction.
Radical feminist (Delphy and Leonard) contend that all families are based on a
social structure where there are two roles 1) Head of the family (usually being the
man) 2) The dependants or helpers (women or children). Radical feminists believe
that male power is based on the biological physical strength. As referred to in item
B Radical feminists argue that for example, violence against wives is not simply a
matter of individual, and possibly abnormal, psychology but is shaped by patterns
of inequality between me and women both within the family and within the wider

Richard Linklater s Boyhood And Run Lola Run
The films Boyhood and Run Lola Run explore the manipulation of time in varying
ways. Richard Linklater s Boyhood follows Mason from the age six to 18 as he
grows and learns to navigate through life. The movie is organized in chronological
order and told in real time, allowing for the audience to gain heightened empathy
towards Mason and his experiences. Tom Tykwers Run Lola Run follows Lola as she
attempts to gather 100,000 for her boyfriend within twenty minutes in order to save
her boyfriend s life. The narrativerepeats three times, until Lola wins the money and
receives the ending she is happy with. Boyhood and Run Lola Run manipulate timein
order to create an illusion of reality that connects the audience to the main character.
In Boyhood , the events are presented in sequential order. Despite being in
chronological order, the audience does not have access to the moments in Mason s
daily life. This eliminates the idea the piece being a direct illusion of reality, since
the mundane moments from his life are not available for viewing. The audience is
unaware of what chores he must do at home and has little to no insight about the
smaller moments in the relationship with his family. Most of the interactions the
main character has with the secondary and minor characters take place during
moment of dramatic change. The first abusive stepfather is revealed to the viewer in
the same way it is to Mason. The shot starts as slow reveal that moves around the

normal cycle through hormone treatments or other methods. Managing and
manipulating the estrous cycle allows breeders to have control over the phase the
mare is experiencing and the length of time she will be in that phase.
Estrus synchronization is the practice of regulating when one or many mares will be
in estrus. Breeders can follow certain protocol in order to cause synchronization in the
cycle. According to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the stallion only offers scheduled appointments, you may have to schedule in
advance and not know when your mare will be in estrus that far ahead. In all cases,
estrus synchronization minimizes the number of inseminations each mare will
require per cycle in order to become pregnant.
A review of the estrous cycle is necessary to understanding the protocols for estrus
synchronization. The estrous cycle of the mare is the period from one ovulation to a
subsequent ovulation. Horses are a seasonally polyestrous animal meaning that non
pregnant mares experience recurring estrous cycles. Further, the equine breeding
season is regulated by photoperiod, light exposure. The mares estrous cycle is 21 to
22 days in length and involves hormones produced by the pineal gland, hypothalamus,
pituitary gland, ovaries and endometrium.
The estrous cycle during the breeding season is made up of two phases, the estrus,
or follicular phase and the diestrus, or luteal phase. During estrus, a four to seven
day long phase, the mare is receptive to the stallion and can become pregnant
following ovulation, which occurs one to two days prior to the end of estrus.
Diestrus is a 14 to 15 day long phase in which the mare is unreceptive to the stallion.
This phase ends with the corpus luteum deteriorating which initiates the next
follicular, or estrus phase.

Addicted Poor Summary
The reading for this week, Addicted. Pregnant. Poor. by Kelly Ray Knight (2015) is
an ethnographic endeavor by Knight to document the lived experiences of poor
women navigating their addiction to drugs (mostly crack) while pregnant (Knight,
2015). Knight conducts her research in cheap, privately owned hotels because,
according to Knight, there is a lack of research in these types of hotels (Knight,
2015). Knight s writing highlights several systemic issues surrounding poor, addicted
mothers. Knight states that Addicted, pregnant women are biopolitical projects on
which social and legal interventions are attempted as pregnant, addicted women travel
between environments of drugs and hustling and institutions of care and coercion
(Knight, 2015,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The concern is not being placed on the woman, but rather on the result of her
biological process: her baby , with its potential to be born normal , if only the
circumstances of its mother are controlled to allow for the possibility of normalcy.
Recently, an addicted woman in New York, who had engaged in sex work in the past
was told by a family court judge not to get pregnant again until she has gained
custody of her son . This case adds to the legitimacy to Knight s writing and
highlights the continued need for addressing addicted pregnant women (FOX
News, 2017; Weed, 2017). This particular case is addressed in a very different
manner by two news publications. FOX News, a conservative news source,
focuses on the previous children of this woman, describing how her drug use
during pregnancy lead to the children being born addicted to drugs (FOX News,
2017). CNN, a more liberal news sources chose to focus on how ordering someone
not to have children is a violation of their human rights (Weed, 2017). Yet neither
article addresses the lack of concrete help for the sake of the addicted

Subtitle: A Manifesto for Avatars 1. Introducing Avatars
AVATARA Sanskrit.; ava down , tarati he goes, passes beyond literally, a descent , a
conception described in the Bhagavad gita, 4th Teaching, 1 8 where Krishna
confides: when goodness grows weak, when evil increases, I make myself a body.
(OED)
Originally referring to the incarnation of Hindu deities, avatars in the computing
realms have come to mean any of the various strap on visual agents that represent
the user in increasing numbers of 2 and 3D worlds. (Lonehead, ONLINE SOURCE,

The irony in the physical world is that we choose to wear these commodities and we
willingly pay multi national corporations for the privilege of advertising their
products. Through this transaction we express personal fantasies, achieve a fleeting
sense of democracy and individual expression, and fulfill various levels of desire.
2. Defining Avatars
The use of the term avatar to represent the self or user in the context of shared on line
Internet environments first occurs in the early 1980 s with the development of
LucasFilms s Habitat project (Farmer). The term came to popular consciousness with
the success of the novel SnowCrash (Stephenson). Discussions of the nature of the
avatar are often mixed with current cyborg theory. Although the avatar and the cyborg
share numerous social constructions and identity politics, in the interest of developing
an understanding of the avatar, it is necessary to distinguish it from its cousin, the
cyborg.
2.1. The Human Enhanced
The term cyborg was coined in 1960 with the appearance of Cyborgs in Space by
Manfred E. Clynes and Nathan S. Kline. Clynes and Kline argued that altering man s
bodily functions to meet the requirements of extraterrestrial environments was more
logical than providing a controlled environment for him in space. Their self
regulating artifact organism (Clynes and Kline 31 33) would be free to explore

  • 1. Comparing Contrasting Essay Crafting a "Comparing Contrasting Essay" can be a challenging endeavor that requires a delicate balance between analysis, organization, and clarity. The difficulty lies not only in presenting a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter but also in effectively highlighting the similarities and differences between the elements being compared. One of the primary challenges is the need for a thorough understanding of the topics under consideration. Without a solid grasp of the subjects, it becomes challenging to draw meaningful comparisons and contrasts. This necessitates extensive research and in-depth analysis to gather relevant information and insights. Furthermore, structuring the essay in a coherent manner poses its own set of challenges. Ensuring a logical flow and seamless transition between points is crucial for the reader to follow the argument effortlessly. Juggling between presenting similarities and differences while maintaining a cohesive narrative demands a keen sense of organization and planning. Another hurdle is finding the right balance in the depth of analysis. Striking the right chord between providing sufficient details to support your points and avoiding unnecessary information is an art. The essay should delve deep enough to offer meaningful insights without overwhelming the reader with excessive details. Moreover, the choice of language and expression becomes pivotal. Clarity and precision are essential, and the writer must convey complex ideas in a manner that is easily digestible for the audience. Striking the right tone and ensuring that the language is appropriate for the intended audience is a nuanced aspect that adds to the intricacy of the task. In conclusion, writing a "Comparing Contrasting Essay" requires a combination of research, analytical skills, organizational acumen, and effective communication. Property Law Coursework Essay Unregistered land is the title that is established from old fashioned title deeds and is not to be found in the register of title governed by the Land Registration Act 2002. Unregistered land is land for which the title must be proved from the conveyancing of history of the land by the title document i.e. the deeds and related documents; and not by an inspecting register. Although this doesn t mean that land doesn t have the opportunity to be registered. For this question the rights considered are, firstly for Kate it is family rights and actual occupation, for Darryl we are asking the question as to whether it is okay to pay rent to lease the land, for Julie we are considering profits so establishing whether she can use the field as a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this case Lord Oliver held that the relevant time for determining occupation was the date of completion of the transaction rather than the date of registration as the acts of moving in were not sufficient to constitute actual occupation. In this case we can see that Kate s interest wasn t sufficient even though it wasn t overreached but she didn t have actual occupation as she wasn t living there and she wasn t in the country when the Bungalow was bought. Next we have to consider whether when Alexander confronted Darryl on trespassing and Darryl showed the agreement from 2004 that allowed him to pay rent to lease the land; this means we are asking the question as to whether this is allowed. Firstly we consider that one of the main motives for letting the property is so that they can generate an income through the payment of rent, this can be seen as Richard received a payment of ВЈ100 per month from Darryl so that he could use the workshop. Lord Templeman in Street v Mountford (1985) included rent as part of the definition of tenancy; Section 205(1) (xxvii) of the Law of Property Act 1925 provides that a term of years means a term of years whether or not at a rent. This means certain types of leases need to be supported by rent in order to qualify for statutory protection and this is
  • 3. Joshamee Gibbs Archetypes Essay What do Joshamee Gibbs (Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl /Terry Rossio) and Phileas Fogg (Around the World in 80 Days/Jules Verne) have in common? Well, from a distance they have nothing in common. Joshamee Gibbs is a pirate found in a blockbuster film. Passepartout is a french valet, from a book written in the 1800s. But, as the reader dives into the characters and their behaviors, a pattern or archetype can be seen. Archetypes are universal in every story and narrative. For the hero, there are 3 archetypes: tragic, romantic, and epic heroes, but for the other archetypes they are more broad and open to more variety. The hero is the protagonist, or main characterin a film or book. The role of the companion is that of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Passepartout tests Fogg s morals and character. Will he save his servant and risk everything or leave him with the indians to possibly die? Companions often die, or are left behind causing distress or mourning to the protagonist and may build the character s determination and motivation to continue with their quest. Dialogue between the companion and the hero is important to character development. Because the companion is the protagonist s friend or helper, the companions often talk with the protagonist about their feelings, ideas, and thoughts. By expressing themselves the reader can get a better look into the hero s true self through dialogue. In Pirates of the Caribbean: The Black Pearl the protagonist, Will Turner, meets Jack Sparrow and his crew. Initially, he is disgusted of them as he brutally expresses his hatred towards pirates to Jack sparrow. Which is quite ironic, since he later finds out he is the son of a pirate. Not a lot s known about Jack before he showed up in Tortuga with a mind to find the treasure of the Isla de Muerta? That was before I d met him, when he captained the Black Pearl. Wills head whips around swiftly. What? Will questions. Gibbs chokes on his alcohol. He failed to mention that Will exclaims softly. Gibbs pauses and explains, He plays things closer to the vest now. A hard learned lesson it was. Three days out on the venture, the first mate says, everything s an equal share. That means the location of the

It has gone from gilded braids during the time of the Egyptian Queen Cleopatra to colorful updos today. Almost all of us have a desire to change our hair color. Women like to dye their hair to change their physical appearance or they just like follow the trend. Some of us use hair dye or hair bleach without realizing how damaging it is to our hair. Whether you go blonde, brunette, or dye your hair a crazy color like blue or pink, its your decision. Another good reason to dye your hair is to hide those gray hairs. Many adults dye their hair to appear younger. The negative side effects of dying your hair is that your hair gets dry and brittle because of the chemicals.Since the chemicals are going into your scalp, it becomes irritated and starts to tingle. If you over apply hair bleach, this can lead to major damage causing the hair to break anyway on the shaft resulting to hair loss. Many of us prefer to dye our hair at home. At home colors are cheaper and their prices vary from $8 to $20. These products have a higher volume of peroxide so that it can lighten darker hair. This can be dangerous for your hair because it will affect future coloring and you will have to treat the hair growing differently that the colored hair. • 5. Marcus Brutus In William Shakespeare s Julius Caesar Julius Caesar was a man who could declare war on all of Rome and his people would still cheer for him. Julius Caesar was very brave but prideful and egotistical. This abundance of power and support along with his attitude are some of the many reasons certain members of the senate rose in opposition against Caesar. One of the conspirators was Marcus Brutus a good friend and close confidant to Caesar. In Shakespeare s Julius Caesarthe reader is presented with a choice of who to side with, however, the conspirators were validated in their fears of Caesar and his growing influence. If they had not done something then, Rome would have perished. The willingness of citizens to turn against Pompey and, to a certain extent, Rome itself for Caesar is a testament to why the conspirators killed Caesar. In the beginning of Shakespeare s work Marullus says, Didn t you know Pompey? Many times you climbed up on walls and battlements, towers and windows even chimney tops with your babies in your arms, and sat there patiently all day waiting to see the great Pompey ride through the streets of Rome. And now you put on your best clothes? And now you take a holiday? (act1, sc1). The people of Rome were willing to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From a young age I was taught that taking what was not yours without asking was unbelievably wrong and would result in a never ending timeout. Fearing an eternity spent sat in a corner thinking about what I had just done I made an early habit of asking for things I wanted and forgetting about the things I could not have. Unfortunately this lifestyle could only last so long and so at only four years old the temptation became too much and I had convinced myself that the only solution was to take what was not given to me. Unsure of what to do with myself now that I was not allowed to have the one thing I desired I found my way to my room. Needing a place to think I rolled under my bed and let the emotions settle in. Disappointment won out as the more overwhelming emotion and I began to plot a way to take what I felt was rightfully mine. I soon realized that I had no real idea of how to enact my plan and became more frustrated. I knew I needed a second opinion and intended to speak to Lucky when I realized that in my fit of despair I had left him behind. I decided that a rescue mission was in order and climbed out from under my bed. Sneaking through the house I reached my brother s room and was shocked to find only Lucky there. I raced over lifting him from the bed and hugging him close knowing he was once again safe. I turned to leave but right before I could I noticed a faint noise coming from within the blankets. Lifting them I found true temptation. There sat Joey s GameBoy taunting me as I stared in wonderment. It dawned on me that I could just go back to my room and find a different way to get the chance to play but with no one in sight I decided that taking it now
  • 7. The Wizard Of Oz And The Populist Movement The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L.Frank Baum has been an excessively popular fairy tale among the kids and adults. It has provided us with great plays and musical comedies. As most of us do not tend to relate a fairy tale with the political movements happening around us, Henry Littlefield was the first to write an outstanding article The Wizard of Oz: Parable on Populism in which he made a bold inference that the Wizard of Oz was a book that portrayed the United States of America as it entered the twentieth century. He argued that the story was perhaps a metaphor for the Populist movement. After doing much research on both the Wizard of Oz and Littlefield s article I can say that the children s fairy tale by Baum was indeed a parable on Populism. The Populist movement was a rising third party of angry farmers and factory workers. The idea behind this movement was to take the power away from bankers and business leaders. Baum was a supporter of William Jennings Bryan, presidential candidate for Democratic Party. Bryan supported the laboring class of the economy, his main concern was adding silver to the nation s gold standard (49). They wanted money to be silver based since silver was available in the Mid West and in doing so; the banks would no longer be able to manipulate the money supply. The goal of the participants of the party such as Baum was to break the power of the concentrated corporates. During the same time in 1890 s a severe depressions caused businesses to go bankrupt, farmers to sell their lands and factories were being shut down leaving workers unemployed. The Populist Party believed that switching to silver would pump money in the economy and would at least keep the businesses going. The Wonderful Wizard of Ozprojects its message in a very subtle unsuspected way. For a child the story is just a magical story full of colors but underlying the colors Baum created a children s story with a symbolic allegory implicit within its story line and characterization (50). The book is full of symbolism, when Dorothy lands on West Witch with her house, she is given a pair of silver slippers by the Good Witch of the North. She is
  • 8. Why I Am An Engineer 1.Choosing to be an Engineer was one of the easiest choices I ve had to make in my life. I ve grown up being told engineering is one of the best majors to have. My mom is a mechanical engineer and since day one she s been helping me develop skills and knowledge that engineers have. I remember being in kindergarten and my mom would sit me down at the kitchen table at my grandma s house and she taught me basic algebra. She taught me how to think critically and problem solve. She helped me in all my academic courses, and taught me math from 6th grade trough my junior year in high school. Majoring in engineeringwas never a question, what type was always the big question. When I was fourteen I underwent a few extensive surgeries. All though the surgeries weren t fun to experience it peaked my interest in how the body self heals. The idea of becoming a doctor quickly crossed my mind. Junior year after my most recent surgery I came across Utah State s engineering programs and learned of biological engineering. It seemed to fit me best. It is the perfect undergraduate degree. It has plenty of science, my favorite subject; easy path for pre health, if I so desire to take that route; and it is a form of engineering, the best major to have. I never had resistance in becoming an engineer, if anything I had pressure to become one. It was never bad pressure, it was the kind I need and appreciate from my family, teachers, and friends. Autism spectrum disorders are a class of developmental disorders that impair social skills, behavior, and communication (Center for Disease Control). ASDs are considered spectrum disorders because each patient has a unique experience in the nature and severity of their symptoms (Center for Disease Control). Under the umbrella of ASDs, there are three types of disorders, including Autistic disorder, Asperger Syndrome, and Pervasive Developmental DisorderNot Otherwise Specified (Center for Disease Control). Autistic disorder is the most severe of the three, and patients exhibit significant problems with language, communication, and behavior (Center for Disease Control). Furthermore, people with Autistic disorder often have some intellectual impairment (Center for Disease Control). Asperger Syndrome is a milder form of autistic disorder where patients have some developmental delays, but their language and intellect are not affected (Center for Disease Control). The mildest of the ASDs is the pervasive developmental disorder. These patients usually don t meet all of the criteria for autistic disorder, but do show some signs of social and communication problems (Center for Disease Control). The number of children diagnosed with ASD is growing, and currently 1 in 88 children fall somewhere on the spectrum (Mari Bauset et al., 2013). Boys are four times more likely than girls to have autism, and while the exact cause of these disorders is unknown, both genetic and

So the easiest is to compare the general aspects across the board, and for the smaller differences I can only compare it with Texas, since I have lived there my whole life. The first major difference is the food, of course the food is different all across Europe compared to the United States, just because we have different types of food. In America we like to imitate other countries food, trying to bring different cuisines to everyone s diet. For example; Italian, Greek, Chinese, Asian, and many other different cuisines. Swiss food you rarely see in America, like the fondue, that is something America has put a twist on, trying to imitate that certain dish. Roclette has just now been introduced to America, and it s one of the bigger hits now, but it is nice to know we have had it in Switzerlandfrom where it is originally from. Another difference in food, is that nothing in Switzerland is processed, no preservatives, no high fructose corn syrup, and no dyes. Another thing that is different with the foods, is having freshly produced chocolate that is out of this world. It is a disappointment to go back to America and crave chocolate to only have the options of either getting Hershey s, which will not taste as good or as smooth, or find European chocolate for more than $5. But not all of American food is bad, we are known for

This section of the book addresses how online and interactive communications play a vital role towards interactions in the modern world. The goal of this chapter is to effectively incorporate online advertisements to deliver messages to dedicated consumers. Over the course of this paper, it will become clear as to how a current news articleapplies theory from lectures and the textbook to enhance online communications. The Globe and Mail newspaper article depicts a Toronto police officer using Twitter to encourage students to treat one another with respect, demonstrate to adults that not all cops are bad people, and emphasize the importance of online communications in a technologically developed society. Officer Chris Boddy s objective is to show respect and interest in the lives of others, to create a positive reputation for himself and his police force. Theory from chapter seven of the textbook explains that generation Y, those between 18 34 years of age, are relying on online sources of media to obtain knowledge and understanding of what is currently happening around the globe. Statistics Canada explains that 95% of Canadian households have access to the Internet, with a monthly average of 45 hours spent online. During the war, the two countries were allied against Nazi Germany, however, after the war ended it left the two superpowers at odds on many political and economic issues. During the 1950 s the anticommunist crusade, in my opinion, was a direct threat to the freedom President Truman, in particular, spoke about. • 18. Theme Of Dreams In Troilus And Criseyde Chaucer also demonstrates that dreams are layered with meaning and may serve as a tool for an intertextual analysis of literature and poetry when amalgamated into poems themselves. It encourages metareflection and the use of dream visions within Chaucer s work alternates between a formulaic device or a significant and divine vision into the future. It becomes apparent that the dream is an effective and fundamental device for writing narratives that question reality, faith, and agency. The dreams in Troilus and Criseydetake various forms, altering shape under careful observation. Criseyde s dream is seemingly a prophetic somnium, which predict future events or divulge hidden truths of the past. In addition, it can also be strongly argued that this dream is fabricated from the subconscious of Criseyde as she is already starting to love Troilus, however, is not wholly ready to acknowledge this, even to herself. These two interpretations add further evidence of ambiguity in Chaucer s work as it remains uncertain which one was intended by the author. Perhaps Chaucer too was questioning the established attitudes of his contemporary society in such a way that can be seen to predict future theories of human understanding and dream interpretations. Boccaccio s indifferent mentions of the heart is referenced to internal thoughts or in relation to the affliction of love sickness. However, there are three instances where Troilo refers to Criseida as heart of my body, and two where Criseida returns this expression. The wording implies the exchange of hearts, a motif only included in Troilo s dream of Criseida and the boar. (VII. 24) Boccaccio s desire may have been for his Italian readers to grasp the literal implication of how the beast s attack on the woman s heart will hurt the hero s heart because her heart is also his vice versa. Chaucer explores this motif in Criseyde s dream of the white eagle, which according to Medieval allegory and moral, received both favourable and unfavourable interpretations. Chaucer depicts a characteristically fierce bird of prey who viciously devours flesh with severe ferocity: the longe clawes that rente her breast initially threatens Criseyde with physical harm. (II. 925 31) The

Unrequited love poisons the character... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sandra Cisneros illustrates in the poem My Wicked Wicked Ways a conflicted picture of a broken family. It presents the idea of unrequited love. The mother of the speaker is holding onto a man that has another partner, besides herself. Evidently, the father possesses strong feelings and emotions towards his beloved mistress. However, the mother belittles herself and accepts the infidelity. The hidden message behind Here is my mother / She is not crying reveals that the mother is unhappy about the abuse of her love and trust, but pretends to be okay for the sake of her child (Cisneros 185). Love and commitment goes hand and hand; it is impossible to have one without the other. Therefore, this example illustrates that the father does not wholeheartedly love his spouse. In consequence, his wife suffers emotionally and relinquishes these emotions through tears. The effects of this emotional abuse inflicted by unrequited love can subtly range from mood swings to a complete emotional shutdown. Crying is her most effective outlet. The poem continues with She cannot look into the lens /because the sun is bright, as it creates an excuse for the agony inflicted (Cisneros 185). It is evident that the mother of the speaker is only allowed to grieve short term. Rather, she masks her emotions and allows it to kill her inside than to be portrayed as emotionally weak. Similar to the mother, most individuals that experience unrequited love tends to hide their sorrows because of shame. They are not only ashamed of their partners inability to love them correctly but at themselves for being ignorant to that fact. Many become angry at the world, few are in denial; most endure hopelessness, and others fall into a deep abyss of depression. What every individual that has experienced these one sided expectations have in common is that they are all unhappy. Depression is the worst consequence of it all,

U.S Government has been benefiting from Intelligence information since the beginning of the country, despite the fact that many people thought that U.S intelligence emanated as a result of cold war (Federation of American Scientists, 1996). A new ICT Manager is to be in place by July 2004. SETTING UP AND STAFFING The British Council funded Ms Joan Reedy, from Boston, Massachusetts, to work on the project in Belfast during 1989/90 and Dr Katharine Brown from Virginia, and Ms Maureen Macauley, also from Boston, during 1991/92. They all did some excellent work for the Database and were a tremendous asset to the project. All other workers have been appointed via unemployment training schemes. After a year initially working at PRONI a new government training scheme was introduced to replace the old Ace Scheme. This entailed recruiting trainees who would earn only ВЈ10 per week, on top of their unemployment benefit. The prospects of recruiting well qualified people to process the documents looked bleak. However, after a short while we began to build up a number of trainees who were interested in the work. The main Training and Employment Agency was Enterprise Ulster http:/ /www.enterpriseulster.co.uk whose head office is in Belfast. During the early years when unemployment was high there could be 12 13 trainees at a time working at our Belfast office.

Jean Luc Godard s Weekend as Didactic Self-Reflexive Cinema James Goodman 5 March 2005 Auguiste Communication Essay Jean Luc Godard s Weekend as Didactic Self Reflexive Cinema According to Stephen Prince in Movies and Meaning: an Introduction to Film, Screen Reality is a concept that pertains to the principles of time, space, character behavior and audiovisual design that filmmakers systematically organize in a given film to create an ordered world on screen in which characters may act and in which a narrative may unfold.(262) One mode of cinematic screen reality is self reflexivity. While the other three modes of screen reality seek to sway the audience into accepting the authenticity of the world and the story that are on screen, the self reflexive style deliberately attempts to tear down... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Weekend represents the culture of political violence and social experimentation, artistic and sexual, which was the latter half of the 1960s. This somewhat comic but depressing film of Godard s is a satirical poem and construct of the contempt with which he obviously holds bourgeoisie society. Much of the film expresses this through the use of symbolism and metaphor. In order to better facilitate the process whereby the audience becomes aware of Godard s intentions and his message he introduces us to a young Parisian married couple. Godard sets the clichГ©d couple, alienated and bourgeois, on a journey for Corinne s parents country house, hoping to find them either dead or willing to sign the will. As they persist in their journey we are given various opportunities to appreciate the absolute complacency and ignorance of the couple (meant to be emblematic of all bourgeois). Godard tries to peel off the hypocrisy of bourgeois society through the weekend trip of this Parisian middle class couple. Weekend is a clear continuation of the style, and even ideology, which originated with Brecht s work in the theater. Jean Luc Godard weaves didactic self reflexive techniques throughout the film, in order to break the illusion that the spectator is watching a real, authentic world on screen rather than a movie. In doing so, Godard finds the ability to share his discourse directly with the audience instead of employing characters to do the job for

Alexie brilliantly invites readers into the mind of a cynical fifteen year old who calls himself Zits. Zits uses humor, violence, and shock value to cope with how he has been treated by his absent father and the foster system. Zits uses his vocabulary as a defense mechanism which reveals how comfortable he feels in various situations. The following paragraphs analyze how Zits speech patterns provide insight to how he feels about certain characters and situations. Zits uses a distinctive naming system when he is unaware of a character s real name. Zits method of naming characters reveals how comfortable he is talking about them. He bases most of his names on appearance. For instance, Zits sees a young Indian boy while he is in the body of Gus and he observes that the Indian can t be more than five years old and he holds a bow (pg. 59). Zits then refers to this character as Bow Boy for the remainder of the book (pg. 59). Zits uses this method for naming almost every character he meets. Characters that he likes are given names such as Small Saint while characters he feels anger toward often remain unnamed (pg. 61). For example, Zits mother, father and grandfather are never mentioned by name. Zits method of naming also reveals how he feels about himself. I m ashamed that I look like a bag of zits tied to a broomstick (pg. 9). Therefore, his name reveals how he

This movement is called Men s Rights Activism (MRA), also commonly known as meninism. Feminism and meninism have both been given a strong negative connotation by the media, often representing them with the image of an outspoken, somewhat radical, advocate. Genderand Women s Studies classes have shined a light on how this does not fully encompass what feminism represents. In China, women were regarded as the lesser gender. Yet, does that necessarily mean that women in China are weak? There are facts supporting both opinions, but I believe there are more signs pointing towards how resilient and strong women actually are. Women in China were exceptionally strong despite being persecuted for their gender; Although these women were required by tradition to serve their husbands or bind their feet, they still lived and conquered on. The three main points I believe that show how strong women from China are is that women are respected, even though their gender is, lesser, women still live their life ... This quote serves to remind that Fu Hao received not only the same treatment as men in China, but also was buried the same way that pharaohs in Egypt were buried. It also speaks wonders to the fact that if her husband did not respect her, she would not be. An additional quote that speaks volumes about this particular issue is, as mothers and mother in laws, a good deal of honor . Something that men need/needed to keep in mind about women was that without a woman, they would not be alive. No matter what society, place, or time period that someone was or is living in, women do have motherhood working in their advantage, and motherhood is not something that will or ever can be taken away from women. The third and last quote is, if a man died and his sons were not yet old enough to be the head of the family, the women would fill the place till the sons were old enough ; This quote was chosen because I feel as though if women were through not respected, then there would have been a different way or some other person to lead . Initially, all MR images are segmented into three images, each represents one tissue type. The segmented images are then registered iteratively with their average to estimate the deformations that best align the images together. These deformations are used to generate spatially normalized and smoothed gray matter images. The image values after seg mentation represent the probability of belonging to the tissue (GM or WM) of every voxel. Fourth, smoothing renders the data more Gaussian distributed, improving the validity of the commonly used Gaussian random field (GRF) theory thresholding approach. A review of the estrous cycle is necessary to understanding the protocols for estrus synchronization. The estrous cycle of the mare is the period from one ovulation to a subsequent ovulation. Horses are a seasonally polyestrous animal meaning that non pregnant mares experience recurring estrous cycles. Further, the equine breeding season is regulated by photoperiod, light exposure. The mares estrous cycle is 21 to 22 days in length and involves hormones produced by the pineal gland, hypothalamus, pituitary gland, ovaries and endometrium. The term came to popular consciousness with the success of the novel SnowCrash (Stephenson). Discussions of the nature of the avatar are often mixed with current cyborg theory.
