Teaching Inclusive Australian History And Presenting The...
Non Indigenous teachers encounter numerous barriers when teaching inclusive Australian history and
presenting the perspectives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Teachers often lack
education and exposure, have a fear of opposition or consequences, or have minimal awareness of one
s own beliefs and dispositions, amidst other uncertainties (O Dowd, 2015). As a training teacher with a
non Indigenous heritage, I must consider my own ethical positioning (O Dowd, 2010), so I can best
participate with and overcome all barriers. I believe that the majority of barriers faced by non
Indigenous teachers can be overcome through respectful and careful personal and professional
reflection, and a continued education in ethical and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One person s understanding of history often relates with their sense of cultural identity (Fearon, 1999).
Australia s education about our history may have been misrepresented so that that voices of several
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture s voices were not heard or disregarded. Pre service
teachers may have also been misled or have under represented ideas of Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander culture s due to media representations or lack of, a misguided approach still occurring
presently. I believe that it is important for pre service teachers to consider and understand their ethical
positioning, so as to expose preconceived assumptions and views. As a pre service teacher, it is my
responsibility to become continually educated as to the correct history of Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander cultures, and constantly challenge my present knowledge and understanding in order to
develop and have a more mature idea of what it means to be a modern Australian educator. I will make
sure that I thoroughly engage with research based online, but will ensure that I engage and have
contact with Aboriginal members in my community, especially their elders. Not only pre serviced
teachers, but current teachers in the modern day classroom, need to be prepared to critically develop
their professional understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, so as to be the most
effective practitioner they can

Negative Effects Of Social Media And Its Effects On...
Effects of Social Media on the Mental Health of University Students
Social media is unquestionably, everywhere. In spite of its recent beginnings, it has quickly become an
indispensable part of everyday lives. Social media and various websites are the most commonly used
among today s society, specifically of young adults. Social media sites include learning resources, like
blogs; image and networking pages such as Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter; streaming
sites such as YouTube; and interactive peer to peer gaming sites. With these platforms, the world
continues to grow smaller and smaller as social media connects every aspect of human life, benefitting
young adolescents by improving connections, communication and even practical skills needed for
adulthood. However, despite its ability to bring people together, several recent researchers share the
belief that social media has affected society negatively, most especially those who are still in school.
The problem that this essay tackles is how young adults mental health is affected by too much social
media influence. Are online actions an expression of offline behaviors? Is social media harming young
adults mental health? These topics have been argued by several researches and make for interesting
debates. Statistics from a research done by Doctors Gwenn Schurgin O Keeffe and Kathleen Clarke
Pearson show many mental health issues, about 50 70%, are diagnosed before the age of 18. Making

Philosophical Travel Journal
I am writing this journal with the goal of recounting my travels to different philosophical societies.
Remarkably, each one of the three societies I was privileged enough to travel to r igidly followed a
renowned philosophy. These were the philosophies of Plato, Soren Kierkegaard, and Friedrich
Nietzsche.
The Republic
The first society I visited was that of Plato
s philosophy. The residents were very kind and sought out true meanings of different vi rtues solely by
dialectic. They structured their city much the same way that
Plato structured the renowned
Republic
. Plato said that a just city would involve each man doing his own work, or specializing in a certain
task. The cobbler would be a cobbler, the builder would be a builder, the farmer a farmer, and so on an
d so forth. Each of these focused on his work and in such a way maximized outpu t, as is logical. The
army protecting that city stood as a c ourageous wall around it, ready to defend it whenever necessary.
The soldiers
training was intense, focusing not only on physical exercise but also on the arts. By being brought up
with training both in the arts and in physical exercise,
Plato believed t hese soldiers would be both courageous and wise. Indeed, they were. The city was
very confident in its guardians, knowing full well that should war be declared, it would be re solved
by reason or, if all else failed, a

Aldo Leopold s Sand County Almanac
Sand County Almanac
By :Mason Ostlie
Sand County Almanac was written by Aldo Leopold in 1949. He is a environmentalist and forester and
has helped out with many hunting and conservation magazines. This book is one of the most
inspirational environmental books ever created in the 20th century. It contains several of Leopold s
thoughts about his interactions with nature. Many of the main concepts and foundations of modern
conservation, ecology and land ethic can be found in this book.He explains what it means to be a
person of the land and that people don t care about taking care of the land. Everyone wants what s
most convenient for them and that we can use everything. Everything is here for the purpose to make
us happy. The Sand County ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The summary of Leopold s work is what should be admired, as Leopold was a pioneer in changing the
American view of the people s place in nature. One of my favorite quotes in the book was: the modern
dogma is comfort at any cost , which is saying that to get comfort, you have to spend money. Another
favorite quote was: is education possibly a process of trading awareness for things of lesser worth?
What I got out of this is that it s saying the true definition of education and what school is. Leopold s
views on the world are very good and they show how much we don t think about the world and the
land ethic. Also, it shows how all we care about is comfort and convenience. His view of being out
with nature is also good because our world is filled with technology and many people forget about
nature and how important it is to us. The through line that I think defines him is Earth Keeper, his
views of how technology and people hurt nature and how we need to protect it. Nature is such a big
part of our lives and we need to take care of the earth. A topic I was challenged by is the whole aspect
of is almost everything bad? Is all technology and photography bad? Photography, I feel,

Inaccuracies In Selma
Selma was a movie released at the end of 2014 which portrayed the struggles Martin Luther King, Jr.
and others working closely with him had trying to get the black right to vote in Selma, Alabama. The
movie portrays many clear points, and has largely accurate information. However, in the movie Selma,
there are some clear inaccuracies in the movie that were created to further the plot
The film Selma takes place during the Civil Rights Movement in Selma, Alabama during 1965.
However, there were more struggles going on in the United States than just the black civil rights
movement led by Martin Luther King, Jr. Mexican Americans struggled for fair wages at their jobs as
migrant workers, and the United States fought an ideological war abroad in ... Show more content on

Section 4 established a formula for Congress to use when determining if a state or voting jurisdiction
requires prior approval before changing its voting laws (Brunner, Haney, Timeline). The Voting Rights
Act, which was initially brought before Congress almost directly because of the Selma to Montgomery
march led by MLK, was slightly adjusted to be more fair to all races. Because this was slightly
adjusted, it may have brought people back in time to wondering about the actual civil rights
movement, and what it took to get such a law passed. Selma demonstrated fairly accurately all the
hardships necessary to procure such a law. In general, the American public was likely beginning to

Is Data A Person
Is Data a Person? According to Daniel Dennett, there are six factors a being must meet to be
considered a person, regardless if they are human or not. The six factors are: rationality, conscious
mental state and intentionality, verbal communication, self consciousness, subject of a special stance
or attitude, and reciprocating this person regarding stance. Within the single episode, The Measure Of
A Man, Data proved to be able to meet all these requirements, thus making him a person. The first
factor, rationality, Data shows throughout the episode. He rationalizes during the poker game, he
rationalizes when he decides to resign, even when he agrees to the trial. During the poker game he
rationalizes what to do next, whether to fold or raise. Then later on in the episode, data was being
forcefully transferred, he was told he could avoid this situation by resigning. He made his own rational
choice to resign so that he wouldn t be experimented on. When he was told he was not a person, and

Someone lifts their arm up in class because they want to answer the question, no one is telling them to
perform the action. Data, when he does anything, he does so out of his own deliberate action. This can
tie in with his rationality, data makes his own rational decisions through a conscious mental state and
with intentionality. Verbal communication is the third factor to be considered a person. Data, with no
troubles, has the ability to communicate verbally with everyone shown in the episode. Self
consciousness ties with the first and second point. Data is conscious of himself and his surroundings.
During the trial data was asked by the Captain if he knew where he was, what he was doing, and who
he was. Without any sort of hesitation or issue data was able to answer every question without

What Creates An Idea Group, And Group Levels And Virtues
Opinion? Or Fact?
(What is justice, what creates an idea group, and group levels and virtues)
There are many good reasons why, as citizens and as scientists, we should be concerned with studying
the ways in which human beings form their opinions and the role that social conditions play. (Elliot
Aronson, Page 17) It s human nature to instantly form an opinion of someone or something. There s
really no way around it. When someone forms an opinion, they think of their opinion as true, or fact.
But can an opinion be fact unless it s proved? That s a legit question for Republic. Throughout the
entire book of Republic, Socrates argues for many different objectives. It can be assumed that his
opinions were never, and were always, stated. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are trained specifically for that job and they are trained very well so they can perfectly perform
their operation to make the group run very smoothly. An example of this is leaders and followers. A
leader must be taught to lead and they must be able to lead well. People must be taught to be followers
and to not try to take the position of a leader. Without followers, there are no leaders. If people can be
taught to follow efficiently and the leaders are taught to lead efficiently, there will be harmony. Don t
forget, harmony is a key component of an ideal group along with unity and balance. Unity needs to be
present as well to form an ideal group and stems from each person within the group doing is or her
job. Each of these constituents are achievable and will form an ideal group if and only if there has
been a quality education given to each person. A person s education started way before they were even
born. Each choice that was made by their ancestors helped to form them into the person that they were
or are. A person s education didn t start when they entered kindergarten or even preschool. It started
long before that. The clarification of the concept of lifelong education (Dave, R.H.) The clarification
is that a lifelong education doesn t start or stop with school. It s a must more vast time period than
that. Education is random or intentional which also plays a crucial role in the making of an idea group.

The Attachment, Self Regulation, And Competency
The Attachment, Self Regulation, and Competency (ARC) Framework is a theoretically grounded,
evidence informed, promising practice used to treat complex trauma in children and adolescents
(Arvidson, 2011). This research shows how the application of the ARC model benefits inner city youth
who have been diagnosed with Oppositional Defiant Disorder. The goal of this research is to
demonstrate that symptoms of ODD can be decreased by exposing inner city youth to ARC therapy
over a period of time. The target population is inner city youth in Chattanooga, TN who are diagnosed
with Oppositional Defiant Disorder. 50 students were chosen at random at inner city schools in the
area. 25 of the youth will be exposed to the therapy, while 25 will not be exposed and serve as the
control group. The 25 students will be exposed to ARC therapy over a span of 6 months. After the 6
month period, the behaviors will be rated again and compared to the control group that received no
treatment. Complex trauma results from exposure to severe stressors that occur within the caregiver
system or with another presumably responsible adult, are repetitive, and begin in childhood or
adolescence. As a result, many of these children and adolescents experience lifelong difficulties
related to self regulation, relationships, psychological symptoms, alterations in attention and
consciousness, self injury, identity, and cognitive distortions (Lawson, 2013). Exposure to ARC
therapy over a given time will lead to

Robert Cohn Foil
Authors tend to use different techniques in order to make the plot more interesting and compelling to
the audience they are trying to reach. One of the technique they use is foiling. They use foil in order to
develop characters. Character creation and the way a character acts really can affect the stories the
characters are from. When someone analyzes a character they have to take in mind their feelings their
emotions and how they are they want to connect with the characters on a whole new level. Authors use
foils to represent the main character in a better way, they utilize another character that has opposing
traits than the main character to do this. In the novels, The Sun Also Rises and Heart of Darkness, the

change into Kurtz making Kurtz and Marlow complex. The reader can not tell if they are different

Kurtz even had a mistress that was native. However, they may have a certain level of respect for them

Levi s divided the consumers into five segments based on demographics, attitudes and beliefs. Q2 and

Levi s decided to place their product in department stores as they had good relations with the retailers
due to their volume sales of jeans. They did not have any real relationship with the specialty stores
where the independent male shopped. Rather than placing their new products which would be
considered as high end in these specialty stores and where they would be among the lower price range,
they chose to place their products in the department stores where their products showed a deviation
from the regular Levi formula and were considered very pricy as compared to other high end
department store brands such as Haggar s. This price raised some concerns among the retailers as they
were unsure if Levi s formal wear would move out of the stores at a required pace. Also, due to price
quality inference, if Levi s was placed in a specialty store, the Q2 customer might prefer to buy a more
expensive product. Levi tried to sell these formal clothes in the same stores as their casual clothes for
the same segment of customers. Customers saw these formal clothes at the same place priced higher
than the casuals, and therefore found them to be expensive.
Due to the above reasons and lack of promotion, Levi s achieved only 65% of their sales target. They
promoted the wrong product under their brand, for the wrong price at the wrong place. They failed to
understand the needs of their customers.
Levi s would have been able to avoid these mishaps if they changed their target

Characteristics Of A Police Officer
Being employed as a police officer brings a consistent standard of morals and a high degree of
integrity within one self, whilst promoting these same characteristics of other police officers, the New
South Wales Police Force (NSWPF)and the general public. These traits are essential for a police
officer s ability to lead people, this is known as Ethical leadership. Burns (1978) highlights that a
leader s personality will provide the basis of leadership. Police Officers require an ethical morale
while exhibiting preferred behaviours whilst on or off duty. These are necessary to enforce the
organisations policy, State legislation and the officers own Oath of Office (Chandler, 2009). A leader s
behaviour is clear to all with deliberate decisions focusing on an ethical and law abiding tendency, and
not one that can be mistaken for personal gain.
This essay will discuss a number of leadership traits and characteristics that I believe are important in
becoming a first line leader. I will discuss practical leadership strategies that may assist in a
probationary constable making the transition to being fully sworn officer working as senior with a

suggested development approaches for improvement.

Case Study Homeless Shelter
In this situation, the shelter director sees a problem with chronic repeaters seeking assistance in the

Analysis Of The Film For Colored Girls
Picture this, waking up every morning to a new issue to face, but not completely finishing the ones
from yesterday or last week. Imagine being overburdened with stress, low income, neglect, needs and
wants, death and heartbreak, but still having to function to survive for your loved ones. The film, For
Colored Girls , directed by Tyler Perry in 2010, narrates the lives of the everyday struggles of several
black women in Harlem, New York. Their lives connect together by the different hardships they face
from not only, being a woman of color, but a being woman in general. Tory Floyd s Interpersonal
Communication textbook, copy written in 2009, teaches communication concepts and how they affect
personal, academic, and professional relationships. The specific communication concepts seen
throughout this movie are the need to belong, profanity, slander, the power and control aspect of
haptics, sadness, denial, empathic listening and closeness. For Colored Girls , portrays the need to
belong. The need to belong is a theory that humans are born with the desire to want to form and
maintain relationships (Floyd, page 279). The women of the plot go through their own need to belong
in with their own individual situations and environments. For example, one of the main characters,
Crystal, doesn t leave an abusive relationship because of the history and the love she has with her high
school sweetheart. This ends up becoming a detrimental situation when he drops their two children

Candide and Free Will
Voltaire s Candide is a novel that is interspersed with superficial characters and conceptual ideas that
are critically exaggerated and satirized. The parody offers cynical themes disguised by mockeries and
witticism, and the story itself presents a distinctive outlook on life narrowed to the concept of free will
as opposed to blind faith driven by desire for an optimistic outcome. The crucial contrast in the story
deals with irrational ideas as taught to Candide about being optimistic by Pangloss, his cheerful
mentor, versus reality as viewed by the rest of the world through the eyes of the troubled character,
Martin. This raises the question of whether or not the notion of free will is valid due to Candide s
peculiar timing of his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Under these assumptions Candide says, There can be no effect without a cause [...] The whole is
necessarily concatenated and arranged for the best (6). This philosophy that everything is fated to be
good omits the validity of free will that Candide later claims to have since he is man and therefore
above the animal world, because no matter what man does in part to shape the entirety of his future,
Candide was taught that the outcome is predestined to yield an optimistic and hopeful reality. The
belief that everything happens for a reason and where the reason is good is incompatible with the act
of free will. Therefore, any efforts of free will are futile because they cannot change the predetermined
outcome, making its concept essentially nonexistent. This logical cycle strengthens and endorses
readers ideas that free will is incongruous with faith. Candide is a naïve character that is in complete
control of his ideas and actions despite the influence from others. In chapter two when he is captured
by Bulgarians and given the choice between death and running the gauntlet, he groundlessly uses his

Citizen Kane Reflection
The movie Citizen Kane targets an audience that in my opinion has to have an appreciation for film.
Someone who is studying film or has a passion for it will know exactly what he or she is watching.
Though, I am in a film class my taste buds haven t truly developed. I didn t understand the true nature
in which it was shot nor did I understand the plot very well. Disliking the movie was difficult due to
the fact I was trying admittedly hard to understand Gregg Tolland and the concept of the film. It was
written very well but in my opinion it was executed wrong. There were many parts of the movie that I
felt dragged on and were put in there as fluff whereas, the parts that needed elaborating were cut short.
Such as, the scene of Kane s mother giving him away where they could have showed her reasoning to
do so coupled with, a flashback of Kane s relationship with his father to establish a basis for his
persistent attempts to convince the mother otherwise. As well as, a glimpse in his teenage years and
why he wanted to become the head of the Inquirer, moreover, the odd choice of camera angles really
took me by surprise. It was difficult to follow what Gregg Tolland was trying to portray. To
emphasize, the musical scene where the camera seemed as if it was swaying back and forth and I didn
t understand why they showed Kane dancing in the reflection on the window while highlighting Mr.
Bernstein and Leland. With all these faults I found within the movie I do have to give a round

Fuel Your Muscles Essay
Fuel Your Muscles with Amino Acids
If you are trying to build up your body and help boost your athletic performance, you need more than
just time in the gym. Amino acids should be added to any serious athlete s routine if you want to
provide your body with what it needs in order to build stronger, more powerful muscles. Your muscles
store fatty acids, glucose, as well as amino acids from protein and all three are used as energy and fuel
during exercise. However, in order to help preserve muscle mass, your muscles will burn off fatty
acids and glucose first before it uses amino acids as fuel. Used as your last line of defense, amino
acids are used as a building block for new muscle. When your muscles are consistently contracting it
results in micro trauma, which are microscopic tears in the muscle. These tears require repair ... Show

If you want to build muscle, boost your energy levels, and help your recovery time, you need to fuel
your muscles with amino acids. Check out some of the top amino acids you need to add to your
regime if you want to properly fuel your muscles.
1. Carnitine
Carnitine plays an important role in helping the body burn fat, and also helps enhance blood flow to
the muscles, which can help prevent muscle damage, muscle soreness, and fatigue. This will also help
increase your endurance and increase your recovery time. You can find carnitine in two different
forms, acetyl L carnitine and L carnitine.
2. Arginine
One of the amino acids that produces creatine, arginine is great for feeding your muscles. Research
has shown that arginine not only increases strength, but it also increases nitric oxide production. Nitric
oxide helps your muscles grow faster due to the improvement in blood flow. You can find arginine in
three different forms, arginine alpha ketoglutarate, L arginine, and arginine

Feminism In Jane Eyre
As an artifact of the Victorian Era, Charlotte Brontё s, Jane Eyre, is seemingly scandalous. The novel
initiates the conversation as to if women can achieve longstanding success in regards to their desires
through the act of questioning authority despite societal standards. Using Jane as the female
protagonist, Brontё delves into how women are wholly capable of championing autonomy and
fulfilling female passion if they maintain a certain level of self respect, courage, and humility.
Throughout the novel, Brontё puts strong attention to the fiery and courageous nature of Jane s
character. Even at the beginning of the novel when Jane is merely ten years old, one can gain insight
into just how bold she really is: I am not deceitful: if I were, I should say I loved you; but I declare I
do not love you: I dislike you the worst of anybody in the world except John Reed... (Brontё 36). The
fact that Jane had the courage at such a young age to question authority proves her to be strong and
fearless unlike most of the girls during the Victorian Era. A part of what ignites Jane s female passion
to question authority is Helen Burns. Unlike Jane, Helen believes in turning the other cheek and not
obsessing over the bad treatment she receives from others that are of a higher status: It is far better to
endure patiently a smart which nobody feel but yourself, than to commit a hasty action whose evil
consequences will extend to all connected with you and besides, the Bible bids us

Isolation In Art Analysis
Like all art, there are endless ways for this piece to be interpreted evoking countless emotions
depending on the experiences of the person. The goal of an artist, is to inspire thought and
conversation, which this piece does beautifully. The best thing about snow, is how it can completely
change the atmosphere of a scene. When I look at the piece, I can feel the cold and hear the deafening
silence that comes with a winter storm. I love that snow can lead to some many sensations, from
feeling cozy and safe by the fire, to a cold dreadful feeling of complete isolation. When there is
nothing but the sounds of branches snapping under the heft of something that seems so weightless and

Research Paper On Experiential Marketing
1. Introduction The marketing concept is focused on the sence of satisfying consumer needs and its
main goal is to satisfy those needs by providing specific product or service offerings. In this approach,
brands form out a marketing strategy which identifies their target market and the 4 P‟s as the price,

Persuasive Essay About Cancer
Cancer, one of the most well known diseases of today s world, has never ceased to interest me. To this
day, modern technology has brought an amazing amount of cures and vaccines to fight off a multitude
of diseases! Yet for some reason, no one has found a veritable solution to cancer, despite countless
years of intensive research. As this happens, many around the globe diagnosed with cancer struggle
every second of their lives to conquer it. One such person was my grandma, who was diagnosed with
a terminal cancer (leukemia) around five years ago. We were close and intimate with each other, so
this was mentally distressing for me. At that time, she did not have much money and thus could not
afford her cancer treatments. No one was able to contribute because the treatments were extortionate
at that time. Unfortunately, she was not able to win her battle. Another person I knew who was
affected by cancer was a boy who went to my school: Ryan Kerr. He always had a glowing personality
and displayed nothing but pure generosity. He bravely fought against his cancer Osteosarcoma and
refused to stop until he could not continue further. To help other kids facing the dreadful and dragging
surgeries he once had to go through, Ryan Kerr and his family started a volunteer organization called
Ryan s Case for Smiles to add some liveliness to the hospital rooms by making colorful homemade
pillowcases and help kids diagnosed with cancer in whatever way possible. I myself have contributed

security is not the solution to the problem. It can lead to many other problems. However, I just think
that their options would still become a problem either way. When they were accepting to pay it has its
own implications because it is not guaranteed that they will not harm the people again. Once they will
be supported they will do it continuously. It might lead damage to people s life and property as well.
When they accepted the blackmailing of that group, they will probably do the same with other

Sport and the current issues and challenges for sport management, how did it all start and what now?
Sports in the world have been generating billions and billions of dollars for years. This money comes
from sponsorships, media rights, and legal gambling. All of a sudden, out of know where several
sports have been destroyed by doping. Doping has questioned the integrity of most sports on a global
scale. A combination of sports businesses and the federal government has joined forces to place laws
and punishments to stop the use of both performance enhancing and recreational drugs. For years it
has been argued that small progress has been made due to ineffective plans and strategies for dealing
with doping in sports because of commitment from the organization within. Many have opinions on
the poor management and lack of reliable information to implement an appropriate doping policy.
(Doping in sports, 2014)
The use of banned performance enhancing drugs in sports is called doping. Using drugs to enhance
performance is frowned on and is looked at from most as cheating and unethical. The reasons to shut
down this form of cheating are mainly because of the health risk that comes with it, wanting all
athletes to be equal in a since, and to push for a drug free sport for all. Anti doping authorities state
that using performance enhancing drugs goes against the spirit of sport .

Special Education Inclusion
Parents never want to hear that their child has a life altering disability that will require additional
assistance with special services. Roughly thirteen percent of public school students are receiving
special education services. Barbara Boroson, a Scholastic author on Autism Spectrum Disorder, asks
the special education inclusion population, How has education evolved from exclusion to inclusion
(Boroson, 2017). The issues with special education inclusion have been going unnoticed for many
years and now is the time for a change. Special education inclusion is an issue because it bears against
social and educational values. People all around the world have tried to fix these issues, but their
attempts have been unsuccessful. They have tried making amendments to include special needs
students in general classrooms. They have also tried to create ways to individualize criteria for each
student. These attempted solutions have not created a final answer but led us to find the perfect way to
solve inclusion s problem.
The problem with special education inclusion is involved in the amount of education each student is
receiving. Putting students with special needs into a general education classroom is minimizing how
much they are actually learning. Distractions that come with special needs kids are not allowing other
students to fully participate and listen in class. Teachers can only do so much with what their school
districts allow, which leads to another problem.

Indian Culture And Its Impact On Society
India is country known all over the world for its culture and tradition. It is a land with various cultures
and traditions which are as vast as the subcontinent upon which they are located. This essay will focus
on the Indian culture and highlight the different beliefs that Indians have on life processes. The essay
will show the different methods Indians use to stay healthy and how the Indian culture can determine
how healthcare services are provided to the people.
India is a nation of many different individuals, each with their own beliefs and way of life. The
different beliefs that are held by these people and the traditions they follow can have a significant
impact on how they view modern healthcare. The beliefs and moral values which are a part of human
nature can have positive impacts on an individual, but can also bind them and cause negative impacts
on mental and physical health (Worthington Gogne, 2011). It is necessary for health professionals to
be aware of the cultural beliefs and influences so that they can effectively provide healthcare services.
A lack of cultural competence in care leads to poor patient outcomes, low compliance, and higher
disparities regardless of the services and systems available ( Diversity Cultural Competency in Health
Care Settings ).
Depending on an individual s culture, the way in which one perceives life processes differs greatly.
For Indians their culture plays a large role in how they perceive these things. Being a nation with

Spastic Quadriplegia
Summary In the past, approaches to managing spasticity have been tactics that have a series of
ascending steps that range from the least invasive to the most invasive option. This entails the use of
more conservative and less invasive measures that are often temporary, such as range of motion
exercises and muscle stretching, before more invasive measures are considered. New research
suggests that with the many management options currently available, a more dynamic, integrated
approach is recommended to better manage spasticity. This is often comprised of the usage of a
combination of treatments, or using more invasive intervention before trying a more conservative
option. Because every child requires a personalized assessment and management ... Show more

The reason for this is because measuring treatment outcomes in people living with cerebral palsy is
already difficult but it is even more so in those living with spastic quadriplegia. Unlike an ambulant
child, where changes can be seen in gait parameters, oxygen cost, and gait velocity, the child with
spastic quadriplegia may show changes only in measures of impairment such as the modified
Ashworth scale, Tardieu scale, or joint range of motion. It is difficult to measure change in the level of
function or disability in the child with moderate to severe spasticity (Gormley 2001). This being said,
the need for clinical trials to assess management results for severely involved patients is still
necessary. Designing studies that employ standard enrolment criteria across centres, apply
interventions in a standardized manner, utilize control groups and validated outcome measures,
including measures of cost effectiveness and patient satisfaction may be difficult, but are entirely
necessary in order to justify the new approach to treatment that is suggested in this article (Gormley
2001). In summary, it is vital to gain more research of children with spastic quadriplegia, regarding
spasticity, in order to optimize their functional outcomes when it comes to treatment. New approaches
should focus on efficiency rather than following the step by step approach. With that being said, all of
the available treatment options have their own advantages and disadvantages that a patient, family,
and their medical team need to consider when discussing

My Experience With Mba Student Team Development
As a Project Manager (PM), developing high performing teams helps me deliver projects successfully.
Team members are like family; you don t get to choose them. In my 10 year Project Management
career, building productive teams of individuals with varying skills, gender, age, culture, work ethics,
has been my biggest challenge.
One of the most quoted Team development models was proposed by Bruce Tuckman in 1960. The five
developmental sequence are: Forming; Storming; Norming, Performing and Adjourning.
In this paper, I have used this model to compare and contrast my experience with the MBA student
team development exercise and my experience as PM in my current job. Why was my experience in
these 2 environments, different?
Stage 1 Forming: When enthusiastic individuals come together to form a team:
For the exercise, the teams were pre assigned. Our team consisted of a diverse group of folks from the
perspective of gender, ethnicity, age, professional background and experience. With the activity
duration set at 1 hour, the team did both, introduction and understanding of the assignment at the same
time. This team truly formed itself and equal leadership was established among the MBA students,
within the first minute or two
In the real world too, the project team members are pre assigned and they are excited and ready to
contribute. Unlike in the exercise, in the real world, team members don t establish equal leadership.
They look for a leader to lead and guide them. As

Dual Nature In Young Goodman Brown
The Dual Nature of Man in Young Goodman Brown
In Young Goodman Brown, Hawthorne tells the story of one man s loss of faith in the human race. As
Goodman Brown travels into the woods one night, he is sees the innermost secrets and desires of the
people he once placed upon a pedestal. He sees that humans are evil by nature, and this causes him to
lose faith in his fellow man. By viewing the story as an allegory, the journey into the woods is
associated with the Puritan concept of justification. The Puritans viewed justification, or the means by
which one receives the salvation of Christ, as a psychological journey into the hell (or evil) of the self
(Soler). Goodman Brown fails to complete his process of individuation because ... Show more content

The Apollonian nature of the human seeks to express itself through representations and illusions (such
as art), which was regarded as vulgar to the Puritans. The Dionysian seeks to express itself through the
performing arts (such as song or dance) (Foster 63 64). This was seen as sinful (one may recall the
Salem witch hunt was started when children were caught dancing in the woods). Brown, growing up
Puritan, would have had both of these basic human instincts suppressed. This suggests that something
must have brought forth the need for these instincts to express themselves.
The marriage of Brown and Faith may have brought these issues forward in his unconscious or maybe
even conscious mind. Marriage would have qualified Brown to enter the communion of sinners
through the sexual nature of the marriage bed. Sexual desires for his wife would have challenged
Brown, because of the belief that sex was necessary only for reproduction not pleasure (Male 78).
Sexual desires are associated to the Dionysian (Foster 64). To handle the conflict between faith and
desire, Brown would have to come to terms with them, thus introducing the Apollonian instinct of
individuation.
Brown s journey into the woods is his journey of individuation, as he must come to terms with the
dark desires of his id. For the Puritans, the dark woods are a symbol of mistrust of their own corrupt
hearts and faculties (this is also an archetypal symbol), which directly

The speech language pathologist (SLP) and the clinical fellow provide therapy services in small
groups and individually. The SLP and clinical fellow provided individual therapy services for a
fluency disorder, an autism spectrum disorder, an intellectual disability, and an articulation disorder
within three hours. The Magnolia multi service center provides necessary speech language and hearing
services to individuals in the community. The University of Houston provides evaluations, screenings,

There are many advantages and disadvantages in working for community clinics, like the Magnolia
Multi Service Center. Working in this setting allows the clinician to help individuals with lower
socioeconomic statuses. A disadvantage to working in this setting is that the speech language
pathologist is required to adhere to a strict schedule and rules. For example, the clinical fellow had a
record sheet indicating the specific client and the time that the client arrived and left. If the client is
late then the clinical graduate is required to only work with them using the remaining time in their
appointment. Another disadvantage I noticed was the clinical graduate struggled to maintain the child
s attention. When the client did not want to follow instructions, the client would often look towards
their parent to try to avoid completing the task. There are many other advantage and disadvantages to
working at this center and the clinical fellow readily handled the challenges and the unexpected

1. Introduction
There are not many poems which offer such a wide range of possible perspectives for an interpretation
as T.S. Eliot s The Waste Land , a cycle consisting of five parts. A deep and thorough knowledge of his
whole work, life and influences is necessary to provide a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
3. The Fire Sermon
The Fire Sermon is the third part of The Waste Land . The title is derived from a similar named work
by Buddha, which T.S. Eliot himself considered corresponding
in importance to the sermon of the mount (Eliot 1971: 148).
In addition to the title, at the end of the poem Eliot also refers to this work. 3.1 Structure
The structure of the Fire Sermon is not easy to analyze. The poem does not have a straight rhyme
scheme or rhythm. Its main structural element is variation. Therefore I would suggest seeing the whole
poem reflecting the image of a river. This is done on various levels: the actions and places described in
the poem merge into one another, the transitions are flowing (cf. line 255 257, where first the record is
put on the gramophone and then although there is a shift in place and speaker it says This music crept
by me upon the waters ), and also the rhythm and rhyme scheme are constantly changing, so speed
and intonation of a reader have to be adapted, just as a river runs sometimes faster and sometimes
more slowly.
There are parts with much more regular rhythm and rhyme scheme. Especially the part from line 218 I
Tiresias until line 256 And puts a record ). This reflects on the one hand the monotony of the
relationship ( love would not be suitable here!) of the described couple and on the other hand this is
the part, which is most clearly set in the

Nimi Sherpas In Into Thin Air
Sherpas are mythical gods of nature , living in such high altitude for so long they have develope
genetics to allow them to be strong without any type of oxygen tank . Imagine attempting to climb
mount Everest , the world s tallest mountain . It would be very challenges considering the high altitude
and massive cold weather that can make situations dangerous for all climbers . Yet , people pay up to
35,000 just to summit the mountain . Some experts say that people pay their way to an early death . In
the Novel Into the thin air by John Krakauer he talks about a tragic event while he was climbing
mount Everest . Most clients when they hit the summit feel like they are on top of the world they feel

Everest provides opportunities to the Sherpas Economically Sherpas make up to 6,000 each climbing
season , which typically runs from March through May. (Mandelbaum 1 ) . Sherpas do have
opportunities with income but everything is not guaranteed keep in mind that sherpas do have a
dangerous job . Their jobs require a lot Sherpas are expected to lead less skilled climbers . While
Sherpas continue to carry typical climbing gear , including tents and ropes , they are now also
expected to transport unnecessary luxury items including espresso machines , heated carpets and
plastic flowers to display at the base camp ( Mandelbaum 2). Sherpas up carry a lot of responsibility
during the climbing season . One of which to keep themselves safe as well as the clients . Yet , The
Nepalese governments and western outfitters stand to benefit economically from the climbing
industry( Mandelbaum 3) . All the Sherpas can do is continue to use their great abilities and push on

How do I keep my own biases and my own history from...
I have a jumbled mess of information to process. I believe that being African America, Black, or of
African descent, whichever is currently more acceptable that I have a plethora of bias pointed in my
direction. Being a female doesn t help alleviate the dilemma. Growing up in what is considered a
textbook black family stereotype I am the last of six children, my mother having had children by
different men, the home being on public assistance, growing up in a single parent household and
church every Sunday. With a deceased father at the age of seven I became one of the 49% according to
familyfacts.org that grew up in a single family household lead by a mother only. I felt different then as
I do now in the way I think and process information ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My family attended church regularly but it never clicked with me. I attended other religious
denominations and felt no different towards religion. I am a stable individual with good morals and I
have never committed a felony nor have I ever been incarcerated. I am not or have ever been addicted
to drugs or alcohol and narrowly missed being a teen unwed mother. There are between 80 to 100
percent of Americans imprisoned who claim to have a religious affiliation according to Denise
Golumaski a research Analyst for the Federal Bureau of Prisons. So how then is religion better for
rising children? I have to break from my bias and consider other factors. The numbers of people like
me who have never been incarcerated but are affiliated with a religion. Also the element that certain
lessons taught carry over into adulthood that are positive and provide a positive outcome.
I also have a bias with the public assistance system. This too is from personal experience and the
experience of those I am familiar with. I believe that the public assistance system is flawed and does
little for those receiving assistance. There are people who express very heated feelings toward the
program. Tax payers have the burden of paying for services they do not or will ever receive. Working
forty hour days for years and paying increasing taxes for those who do not work I m sure can be
extremely frustrating. And I do understand the need for such programs as well has the negative effects

Mold Experiment
Bread Mold Experiment
Mold is something that we often take for granted, as something that makes us have to throw the bread
away or the cheese smell bad.
Mold is, in fact, a fascinating organism which has had many different uses over the years and our lives
would not be the same without it.
Most of us know that food seems to become moldy more quickly in the summer than in the winter
when it is colder. Food in refrigerators seems to keep longer than food left out in the sun. Is this true?
Does temperature really affect the rate at which mold grows?
Mold grows quicker at higher temperatures. Companies pay large sums of money in maintaining food
refrigerated in house and on transport, so it is essential for them to know under what ... Show more

Oppression In Native American Culture
Native Americans, the true founders of America, are best known for having a tight grip on tradition
throughout the years. Tradition is a way that Native Americans have been able to coexist for so long,
and is also a way that natives have found stability from tribe to tribe. As Native Americans graciously
welcomed colonists into the new world years ago, they did not receive equal respect in return. The
colonists invading America gave natives a harsh ultimatum, to either leave America, or conform to the
new society that would soon destroy the teepees and farmlands the natives considered home. The
oppression from the colonists, gave natives the incentive that being any race other than white was not
something to be proud of. Through the use of narrative writing done by Native Americans, readers are
given an opportunity to see history through the lens of the oppressed. This further gives an opportunity
for readers understand the very situation that many people who may even look like them once had to
deal with. This allows us to not only draw specific conclusions about this period of oppression, but it
displays how easy it can be for people to fall into very specific standards, and conform to societies that
do not protect their values, and lives.
Growing up, children are regularly told to be themselves, because everyone else is taken. This advice,
however, is quite controversial. I hated Tonto Still Do, written by Sherman Alexie, expresses how
movies portraying Indians

Charles Kendall Adams Accomplishments
No student ever attains very eminent success by simply doing what is required of him: it is the amount
and excellence of what is over and above the required, that determines the greatness of ultimate
distinction, Charles Kendall Adams. I strongly believe that I posses a strong character the which will
allow me to conquer my fears and will guide me in the right path towards the career that I wish to
pursue. I can proudly say I have been accepted into the College of Engineering, Science and
Mathematics at UW Platteville. It all started in kindergarden when I read my first word O S O which
means bear in spanish. The enthusiasm and thrill I felt knowing what I was capable of doing served as
a fuel to my eagerness to learn and explore. Throughout my first three years of elementary school in
Mexico I continued to academically excel. In first grade I managed to place first out of my class,
second grade I placed second and third grade I came back placing first grade. At the beginning of
fourth grade I had to leave school and move here to the United States of America being granted a visa.

  • 3. Teaching Inclusive Australian History And Presenting The... Non Indigenous teachers encounter numerous barriers when teaching inclusive Australian history and presenting the perspectives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Teachers often lack education and exposure, have a fear of opposition or consequences, or have minimal awareness of one s own beliefs and dispositions, amidst other uncertainties (O Dowd, 2015). As a training teacher with a non Indigenous heritage, I must consider my own ethical positioning (O Dowd, 2010), so I can best participate with and overcome all barriers. I believe that the majority of barriers faced by non Indigenous teachers can be overcome through respectful and careful personal and professional reflection, and a continued education in ethical and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One person s understanding of history often relates with their sense of cultural identity (Fearon, 1999). Australia s education about our history may have been misrepresented so that that voices of several Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture s voices were not heard or disregarded. Pre service teachers may have also been misled or have under represented ideas of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture s due to media representations or lack of, a misguided approach still occurring presently. I believe that it is important for pre service teachers to consider and understand their ethical positioning, so as to expose preconceived assumptions and views. As a pre service teacher, it is my responsibility to become continually educated as to the correct history of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, and constantly challenge my present knowledge and understanding in order to develop and have a more mature idea of what it means to be a modern Australian educator. I will make sure that I thoroughly engage with research based online, but will ensure that I engage and have contact with Aboriginal members in my community, especially their elders. Not only pre serviced teachers, but current teachers in the modern day classroom, need to be prepared to critically develop their professional understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, so as to be the most effective practitioner they can ... • 4. Negative Effects Of Social Media And Its Effects On... Effects of Social Media on the Mental Health of University Students Social media is unquestionably, everywhere. In spite of its recent beginnings, it has quickly become an indispensable part of everyday lives. Social media and various websites are the most commonly used among today s society, specifically of young adults. Social media sites include learning resources, like blogs; image and networking pages such as Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter; streaming sites such as YouTube; and interactive peer to peer gaming sites. With these platforms, the world continues to grow smaller and smaller as social media connects every aspect of human life, benefitting young adolescents by improving connections, communication and even practical skills needed for adulthood. However, despite its ability to bring people together, several recent researchers share the belief that social media has affected society negatively, most especially those who are still in school. The problem that this essay tackles is how young adults mental health is affected by too much social media influence. Are online actions an expression of offline behaviors? Is social media harming young adults mental health? These topics have been argued by several researches and make for interesting debates. Statistics from a research done by Doctors Gwenn Schurgin O Keeffe and Kathleen Clarke Pearson show many mental health issues, about 50 70%, are diagnosed before the age of 18. • 5. The Philosophy Of Plato, Soren Kierkegaard, And Friedrich... P hilosophical Travel Journal 1 W C Patten PHL2 71 February 23, 2015 Philosophical Travel Journal I am writing this journal with the goal of recounting my travels to different philosophical societies. Remarkably, each one of the three societies I was privileged enough to travel to r igidly followed a renowned philosophy. These were the philosophies of Plato, Soren Kierkegaard, and Friedrich Nietzsche. The Republic The first society I visited was that of Plato s philosophy. The residents were very kind and sought out true meanings of different vi rtues solely by dialectic. They structured their city much the same way that Plato structured the renowned Republic . Plato said that a just city would involve each man doing his own work, or specializing in a certain task. The cobbler would be a cobbler, the builder would be a builder, the farmer a farmer, and so on an d so forth. Each of these focused on his work and in such a way maximized outpu t, as is logical. The army protecting that city stood as a c ourageous wall around it, ready to defend it whenever necessary. The soldiers training was intense, focusing not only on physical exercise but also on the arts. By being brought up with training both in the arts and in physical exercise, Plato believed t hese soldiers would be both courageous and wise. Indeed, they were. The city was very confident in its guardians, knowing full well that should war be declared, it would be re solved by reason or, if all else failed, a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Aldo Leopold s Sand County Almanac Sand County Almanac By :Mason Ostlie Sand County Almanac was written by Aldo Leopold in 1949. He is a environmentalist and forester and has helped out with many hunting and conservation magazines. This book is one of the most inspirational environmental books ever created in the 20th century. It contains several of Leopold s thoughts about his interactions with nature. Many of the main concepts and foundations of modern conservation, ecology and land ethic can be found in this book.He explains what it means to be a person of the land and that people don t care about taking care of the land. Everyone wants what s most convenient for them and that we can use everything. Everything is here for the purpose to make us happy. The Sand County ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The summary of Leopold s work is what should be admired, as Leopold was a pioneer in changing the American view of the people s place in nature. One of my favorite quotes in the book was: the modern dogma is comfort at any cost , which is saying that to get comfort, you have to spend money. Another favorite quote was: is education possibly a process of trading awareness for things of lesser worth? What I got out of this is that it s saying the true definition of education and what school is. Leopold s views on the world are very good and they show how much we don t think about the world and the land ethic. Also, it shows how all we care about is comfort and convenience. His view of being out with nature is also good because our world is filled with technology and many people forget about nature and how important it is to us. The through line that I think defines him is Earth Keeper, his views of how technology and people hurt nature and how we need to protect it. Nature is such a big part of our lives and we need to take care of the earth. A topic I was challenged by is the whole aspect of is almost everything bad? Is all technology and photography bad? Because this was slightly adjusted, it may have brought people back in time to wondering about the actual civil rights movement, and what it took to get such a law passed. • 8. Is Data A Person Is Data a Person? According to Daniel Dennett, there are six factors a being must meet to be considered a person, regardless if they are human or not. The six factors are: rationality, conscious mental state and intentionality, verbal communication, self consciousness, subject of a special stance or attitude, and reciprocating this person regarding stance. Within the single episode, The Measure Of A Man, Data proved to be able to meet all these requirements, thus making him a person. The first factor, rationality, Data shows throughout the episode. He rationalizes during the poker game, he rationalizes when he decides to resign, even when he agrees to the trial. During the poker game he rationalizes what to do next, whether to fold or raise. Then later on in the episode, data was being forcefully transferred, he was told he could avoid this situation by resigning. (What is justice, what creates an idea group, and group levels and virtues) There are many good reasons why, as citizens and as scientists, we should be concerned with studying the ways in which human beings form their opinions and the role that social conditions play. (Elliot Aronson, Page 17) It s human nature to instantly form an opinion of someone or something. There s really no way around it. When someone forms an opinion, they think of their opinion as true, or fact. But can an opinion be fact unless it s proved? That s a legit question for Republic. An example of this is leaders and followers. A leader must be taught to lead and they must be able to lead well. People must be taught to be followers and to not try to take the position of a leader. Without followers, there are no leaders. If people can be taught to follow efficiently and the leaders are taught to lead efficiently, there will be harmony. Don t forget, harmony is a key component of an ideal group along with unity and balance. Unity needs to be present as well to form an ideal group and stems from each person within the group doing is or her job. Each of these constituents are achievable and will form an ideal group if and only if there has been a quality education given to each person. • 10. The Attachment, Self Regulation, And Competency The Attachment, Self Regulation, and Competency (ARC) Framework is a theoretically grounded, evidence informed, promising practice used to treat complex trauma in children and adolescents (Arvidson, 2011). This research shows how the application of the ARC model benefits inner city youth who have been diagnosed with Oppositional Defiant Disorder. The goal of this research is to demonstrate that symptoms of ODD can be decreased by exposing inner city youth to ARC therapy over a period of time. The target population is inner city youth in Chattanooga, TN who are diagnosed with Oppositional Defiant Disorder. 50 students were chosen at random at inner city schools in the area. 25 of the youth will be exposed to the therapy, while 25 will not be exposed and serve as the control group. The 25 students will be exposed to ARC therapy over a span of 6 months. After the 6 month period, the behaviors will be rated again and compared to the control group that received no treatment. Complex trauma results from exposure to severe stressors that occur within the caregiver system or with another presumably responsible adult, are repetitive, and begin in childhood or adolescence. As a result, many of these children and adolescents experience lifelong difficulties related to self regulation, relationships, psychological symptoms, alterations in attention and consciousness, self injury, identity, and cognitive distortions (Lawson, 2013). One of the technique they use is foiling. They use foil in order to develop characters. Character creation and the way a character acts really can affect the stories the characters are from. When someone analyzes a character they have to take in mind their feelings their emotions and how they are they want to connect with the characters on a whole new level. They did not have any real relationship with the specialty stores where the independent male shopped. Rather than placing their new products which would be considered as high end in these specialty stores and where they would be among the lower price range, they chose to place their products in the department stores where their products showed a deviation from the regular Levi formula and were considered very pricy as compared to other high end department store brands such as Haggar s. This price raised some concerns among the retailers as they were unsure if Levi s formal wear would move out of the stores at a required pace. Also, due to price quality inference, if Levi s was placed in a specialty store, the Q2 customer might prefer to buy a more expensive product. Levi tried to sell these formal clothes in the same stores as their casual clothes for the same segment of customers. Customers saw these formal clothes at the same place priced higher than the casuals, and therefore found them to be expensive. Due to the above reasons and lack of promotion, Levi s achieved only 65% of their sales target. They promoted the wrong product under their brand, for the wrong price at the wrong place. They failed to understand the needs of their customers. Levi s would have been able to avoid these mishaps if they changed their target ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Characteristics Of A Police Officer Being employed as a police officer brings a consistent standard of morals and a high degree of integrity within one self, whilst promoting these same characteristics of other police officers, the New South Wales Police Force (NSWPF)and the general public. These traits are essential for a police officer s ability to lead people, this is known as Ethical leadership. Burns (1978) highlights that a leader s personality will provide the basis of leadership. Police Officers require an ethical morale while exhibiting preferred behaviours whilst on or off duty. These are necessary to enforce the organisations policy, State legislation and the officers own Oath of Office (Chandler, 2009). A leader s behaviour is clear to all with deliberate decisions focusing on an ethical and law abiding tendency, and not one that can be mistaken for personal gain. This essay will discuss a number of leadership traits and characteristics that I believe are important in becoming a first line leader. I will discuss practical leadership strategies that may assist in a probationary constable making the transition to being fully sworn officer working as senior with a partner. I will also discuss my own leadership strengths and weakness including a self assessment and suggested development approaches for improvement. My first thought in this case study is that he lacks empathy and understanding for these homeless individuals. The primary mission of the social work profession is to enhance human well being and help meet the basic human needs of all people, with particular attention to the needs and empowerment of individuals who are vulnerable, oppressed, and living in poverty (NASW, 2017). Imagine being overburdened with stress, low income, neglect, needs and wants, death and heartbreak, but still having to function to survive for your loved ones. The film, For Colored Girls , directed by Tyler Perry in 2010, narrates the lives of the everyday struggles of several black women in Harlem, New York. Their lives connect together by the different hardships they face from not only, being a woman of color, but a being woman in general. Tory Floyd s Interpersonal Communication textbook, copy written in 2009, teaches communication concepts and how they affect personal, academic, and professional relationships. The specific communication concepts seen throughout this movie are the need to belong, profanity, slander, the power and control aspect of haptics, sadness, denial, empathic listening and closeness. For Colored Girls , portrays the need to belong. The need to belong is a theory that humans are born with the desire to want to form and maintain relationships (Floyd, page 279). The women of the plot go through their own need to belong in with their own individual situations and environments. For example, one of the main characters, Crystal, doesn t leave an abusive relationship because of the history and the love she has with her high school sweetheart. • 20. Candide and Free Will Voltaire s Candide is a novel that is interspersed with superficial characters and conceptual ideas that are critically exaggerated and satirized. The parody offers cynical themes disguised by mockeries and witticism, and the story itself presents a distinctive outlook on life narrowed to the concept of free will as opposed to blind faith driven by desire for an optimistic outcome. The crucial contrast in the story deals with irrational ideas as taught to Candide about being optimistic by Pangloss, his cheerful mentor, versus reality as viewed by the rest of the world through the eyes of the troubled character, Martin. This raises the question of whether or not the notion of free will is valid due to Candide s peculiar timing of his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Under these assumptions Candide says, There can be no effect without a cause [...] The whole is necessarily concatenated and arranged for the best (6). This philosophy that everything is fated to be good omits the validity of free will that Candide later claims to have since he is man and therefore above the animal world, because no matter what man does in part to shape the entirety of his future, Candide was taught that the outcome is predestined to yield an optimistic and hopeful reality. The belief that everything happens for a reason and where the reason is good is incompatible with the act of free will. Therefore, any efforts of free will are futile because they cannot change the predetermined outcome, making its concept essentially nonexistent. This logical cycle strengthens and endorses readers ideas that free will is incongruous with faith. Candide is a naïve character that is in complete control of his ideas and actions despite the influence from others. In chapter two when he is captured by Bulgarians and given the choice between death and running the gauntlet, he groundlessly uses his free will to receive an intense degree of torture and anguish. He was asked which he would like the best, to be whipped six and thirty times through all the regiment, or to receive at once twelve balls of lead in his brain. He vainly said that human will is free, and that he chose neither the one nor the other (4). Candide tries to argue that having free will meant ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Someone who is studying film or has a passion for it will know exactly what he or she is watching. Though, I am in a film class my taste buds haven t truly developed. I didn t understand the true nature in which it was shot nor did I understand the plot very well. Disliking the movie was difficult due to the fact I was trying admittedly hard to understand Gregg Tolland and the concept of the film. It was written very well but in my opinion it was executed wrong. There were many parts of the movie that I felt dragged on and were put in there as fluff whereas, the parts that needed elaborating were cut short. Such as, the scene of Kane s mother giving him away where they could have showed her reasoning to do so coupled with, a flashback of Kane s relationship with his father to establish a basis for his persistent attempts to convince the mother otherwise. As well as, a glimpse in his teenage years and why he wanted to become the head of the Inquirer, moreover, the odd choice of camera angles really took me by surprise. It was difficult to follow what Gregg Tolland was trying to portray. To emphasize, the musical scene where the camera seemed as if it was swaying back and forth and I didn t understand why they showed Kane dancing in the reflection on the window while highlighting Mr. Bernstein and Leland. • 23. Feminism In Jane Eyre As an artifact of the Victorian Era, Charlotte Brontё s, Jane Eyre, is seemingly scandalous. The novel initiates the conversation as to if women can achieve longstanding success in regards to their desires through the act of questioning authority despite societal standards. Using Jane as the female protagonist, Brontё delves into how women are wholly capable of championing autonomy and fulfilling female passion if they maintain a certain level of self respect, courage, and humility. Throughout the novel, Brontё puts strong attention to the fiery and courageous nature of Jane s character. Even at the beginning of the novel when Jane is merely ten years old, one can gain insight into just how bold she really is: I am not deceitful: if I were, I should say I loved you; but I declare I do not love you: I dislike you the worst of anybody in the world except John Reed... (Brontё 36). The fact that Jane had the courage at such a young age to question authority proves her to be strong and fearless unlike most of the girls during the Victorian Era. A part of what ignites Jane s female passion to question authority is Helen Burns. Unlike Jane, Helen believes in turning the other cheek and not obsessing over the bad treatment she receives from others that are of a higher status: It is far better to endure patiently a smart which nobody feel but yourself, than to commit a hasty action whose evil consequences will extend to all connected with you and besides, the Bible bids us ... To this day, modern technology has brought an amazing amount of cures and vaccines to fight off a multitude of diseases! Yet for some reason, no one has found a veritable solution to cancer, despite countless years of intensive research. As this happens, many around the globe diagnosed with cancer struggle every second of their lives to conquer it. One such person was my grandma, who was diagnosed with a terminal cancer (leukemia) around five years ago. We were close and intimate with each other, so this was mentally distressing for me. At that time, she did not have much money and thus could not afford her cancer treatments. No one was able to contribute because the treatments were extortionate at that time. Unfortunately, she was not able to win her battle. Another person I knew who was affected by cancer was a boy who went to my school: Ryan Kerr. The issues with special education inclusion have been going unnoticed for many years and now is the time for a change. Special education inclusion is an issue because it bears against social and educational values. People all around the world have tried to fix these issues, but their attempts have been unsuccessful. They have tried making amendments to include special needs students in general classrooms. They have also tried to create ways to individualize criteria for each student. These attempted solutions have not created a final answer but led us to find the perfect way to solve inclusion s problem. Putting students with special needs into a general education classroom is minimizing how much they are actually learning. India is a nation of many different individuals, each with their own beliefs and way of life. The different beliefs that are held by these people and the traditions they follow can have a significant impact on how they view modern healthcare. Spastic Quadriplegia Summary In the past, approaches to managing spasticity have been tactics that have a series of ascending steps that range from the least invasive to the most invasive option. This entails the use of more conservative and less invasive measures that are often temporary, such as range of motion exercises and muscle stretching, before more invasive measures are considered. New research suggests that with the many management options currently available, a more dynamic, integrated approach is recommended to better manage spasticity. This is often comprised of the usage of a combination of treatments, or using more invasive intervention before trying a more conservative option. The reason for this is because measuring treatment outcomes in people living with cerebral palsy is already difficult but it is even more so in those living with spastic quadriplegia. Unlike an ambulant child, where changes can be seen in gait parameters, oxygen cost, and gait velocity, the child with spastic quadriplegia may show changes only in measures of impairment such as the modified Ashworth scale, Tardieu scale, or joint range of motion. It is difficult to measure change in the level of function or disability in the child with moderate to severe spasticity (Gormley 2001). This being said, the need for clinical trials to assess management results for severely involved patients is still necessary. Designing studies that employ standard enrolment criteria across centres, apply interventions in a standardized manner, utilize control groups and validated outcome measures, including measures of cost effectiveness and patient satisfaction may be difficult, but are entirely necessary in order to justify the new approach to treatment that is suggested in this article (Gormley 2001). By viewing the story as an allegory, the journey into the woods is associated with the Puritan concept of justification. The Puritans viewed justification, or the means by which one receives the salvation of Christ, as a psychological journey into the hell (or evil) of the self (Soler). Goodman Brown fails to complete his process of individuation because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Apollonian nature of the human seeks to express itself through representations and illusions (such as art), which was regarded as vulgar to the Puritans. The Dionysian seeks to express itself through the performing arts (such as song or dance) (Foster 63 64). This was seen as sinful (one may recall the Salem witch hunt was started when children were caught dancing in the woods). Brown, growing up Puritan, would have had both of these basic human instincts suppressed. This suggests that something must have brought forth the need for these instincts to express themselves. The marriage of Brown and Faith may have brought these issues forward in his unconscious or maybe even conscious mind. Marriage would have qualified Brown to enter the communion of sinners through the sexual nature of the marriage bed. Sexual desires for his wife would have challenged Brown, because of the belief that sex was necessary only for reproduction not pleasure (Male 78). Sexual desires are associated to the Dionysian (Foster 64). To handle the conflict between faith and desire, Brown would have to come to terms with them, thus introducing the Apollonian instinct of individuation. Brown s journey into the woods is his journey of individuation, as he must come to terms with the dark desires of his id. For the Puritans, the dark woods are a symbol of mistrust of their own corrupt hearts and faculties (this is also an archetypal symbol), which directly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Working in this setting allows the clinician to help individuals with lower socioeconomic statuses. A disadvantage to working in this setting is that the speech language pathologist is required to adhere to a strict schedule and rules. For example, the clinical fellow had a record sheet indicating the specific client and the time that the client arrived and left. If the client is late then the clinical graduate is required to only work with them using the remaining time in their appointment. Another disadvantage I noticed was the clinical graduate struggled to maintain the child s attention. When the client did not want to follow instructions, the client would often look towards their parent to try to avoid completing the task. • 44. 3. The Fire Sermon The Fire Sermon is the third part of The Waste Land . The title is derived from a similar named work by Buddha, which T.S. Eliot himself considered corresponding in importance to the sermon of the mount (Eliot 1971: 148). In addition to the title, at the end of the poem Eliot also refers to this work. 3.1 Structure The structure of the Fire Sermon is not easy to analyze. The poem does not have a straight rhyme scheme or rhythm. Its main structural element is variation. Therefore I would suggest seeing the whole poem reflecting the image of a river. This is done on various levels: the actions and places described in the poem merge into one another, the transitions are flowing (cf. line 255 257, where first the record is put on the gramophone and then although there is a shift in place and speaker it says This music crept by me upon the waters ), and also the rhythm and rhyme scheme are constantly changing, so speed and intonation of a reader have to be adapted, just as a river runs sometimes faster and sometimes more slowly. There are parts with much more regular rhythm and rhyme scheme. Especially the part from line 218 I Tiresias until line 256 And puts a record ). This reflects on the one hand the monotony of the relationship ( love would not be suitable here!) of the described couple and on the other hand this is the part, which is most clearly set in the ... I believe that being African America, Black, or of African descent, whichever is currently more acceptable that I have a plethora of bias pointed in my direction. Mold is, in fact, a fascinating organism which has had many different uses over the years and our lives would not be the same without it. Most of us know that food seems to become moldy more quickly in the summer than in the winter when it is colder. Food in refrigerators seems to keep longer than food left out in the sun. Is this true? Does temperature really affect the rate at which mold grows? Mold grows quicker at higher temperatures. • 49. Oppression In Native American Culture Native Americans, the true founders of America, are best known for having a tight grip on tradition throughout the years. Tradition is a way that Native Americans have been able to coexist for so long, and is also a way that natives have found stability from tribe to tribe. As Native Americans graciously welcomed colonists into the new world years ago, they did not receive equal respect in return. The colonists invading America gave natives a harsh ultimatum, to either leave America, or conform to the new society that would soon destroy the teepees and farmlands the natives considered home. The oppression from the colonists, gave natives the incentive that being any race other than white was not something to be proud of. Through the use of narrative writing done by Native Americans, readers are given an opportunity to see history through the lens of the oppressed. This further gives an opportunity for readers understand the very situation that many people who may even look like them once had to deal with. This allows us to not only draw specific conclusions about this period of oppression, but it displays how easy it can be for people to fall into very specific standards, and conform to societies that do not protect their values, and lives. Growing up, children are regularly told to be themselves, because everyone else is taken. This advice, however, is quite controversial.
