walking through a museum, one notices the immense variation within every piece. Each work
contains one or a few specific themes, and its own unique interpretation of said theme. Common
themes may include, but are of course not limited to that of life, birth, beauty, power and
strength, heroism, death, and beliefs. In this paper, I wish to focus on the themes of both belief
and death within two separate pieces. Within these pieces, the themes of death and belief go
perfectly hand in hand. The Death of Socrates and The Execution of Saint Barbara both
exemplify the conjoining of two themes to create an entirely new idea; martyrdom. Both of
these pieces can be found at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The first piece I
am focusing on is entitled The Death of Socrates. It is painted with oil on canvas by a French
artist named Jacques Louis David in 1787. This image depicts the true story of the trial of

John Wesley wrote in his Sermon 16 that the means of grace are understood as outward signs,
words, or actions ordained by God... to be the ordinary channels whereby (God) might convey to
men preventing, justifying, or sanctifying grace. Means are what happen outside of oneself and
the grace is what does the work inside of ourselves or another way to say this is to say the ways
we receive and experience grace. When we speak of the sacraments we refer to them as outward

outward and physical way, but the real work is that of the invisible grace we receive. Another way

October 13, 2015 my group class and I went to Galleria to observe the people. After watching
several families I came to the conclusion that technology is affecting families, during the
observation families were more on their cell phones stead of having a conversation with their
families. The family look as if they were stranger. They look with a very serious look. They did
not take the time to have a conversation. One of the kid was in his phone most of the time when he
was with his family. I was surprise because the parents did not said anything not even the parents
took time to ask or said anything. The table was in silent they just were looking around. Is very hard
to understand that the family that I observe did not make no connection. It was not the only family

Growing up, most kids wanted a pet. They wanted a dog, cat, fish, lizard, hamster, or even a
bird. Many parents saw this as a way to help teach their children responsibility. However, some
parents failed to teach their child how to treat and take care of their pet. Due to the lack of
knowledge of how to properly take care of and treat a pet, many pets have ended up abused and, in
worst cases, dead. Most people think that dogabuse is just beating their dog or putting them in a
dog fight. Indiana has laws against abandonment, neglect, and physical abuse of dogs, but some
owners need to realize that these laws are being broken by acts of unintentional abuse and since
most acts of abuse are unintentional there needs to be a way to educate people.
Another name for unintentional abuse is neglect. It results from a lack of knowledge of how to
properly train and take care of a pet. Some examples of unintentional abuse are: cruel shelter
environment, lack of food and or water, lack of veterinary care, depriving them of attention and
love, and a lack of recreational stimuli. Unfortunately, many of these people don t know that what
they are doing is cruel. For example, some may keep a dog in their yard with a doghouse that is
on the ground and gets flooded with water when it rains, or they keep their dog on a short chain all
of the time without realizing that the dog needs better shelter ( Information on Animal , n.d.). It
