Primary Adrenal insufficiency (PAI) or Addison s Disease, as it is more commonly
known as, is defined as an insufficient production of glucocorticoids (cortisol).
Cortisol is a regulatory hormone which is secreted and synthesised by the adrenal
cortex of the adrenal glands (1).
Cortisol is vital in maintaining bodily homeostasis. Some roles of cortisol include,
maintaining blood pressure, slowing down the immune system s inflammatory
response and helping the body to respond to stress.
Consequently, Addison s disease is said to affect approximately 1 in every 10,000
people and if left untreated, may be fatal (2). Pathophysiology
PAI results from disease intrinsic to the adrenal cortex, which is the outer layer of
the adrenal gland, found on the top of each kidney (Fig.1) (3).
During an autoimmune attack, patients will have their adrenal cortex gradually
damaged by cell mediated immune mechanisms, resulting in autoimmune adrenalitis.
Autoimmune adrenalitis accounts for roughly 80 90% of PAI cases in developing
countries.
The zone vulnerable to autoimmune attack is called glomerulosa, where aldosterone
is synthesized. Therefore, inadequate aldosterone levels are seen followed by a phase
of hormone abnormalities including cortisol deficiency (5).

what I found really unique about the movie is the director took no time to jump right

The Aeneid by Virgil is a poem that explains the trip that Aeneas took in order to
establish a new empire. Aeneas is a Trojan and was destined by the gods to go out
and look for the land that would later become Rome. In order to found that land he
had to give up many of his personal benefits. He also goes through a series of
challenges through out the trip that were mainly caused by Juno, the queen of the
gods. Through out his poem Virgiluses hyperboles and an emphasis on certain
words to help give us an understanding about empire through achievement and cost.

Golf Greatest Failure
The greatest failure and growing experience of my life has to be the falling out of my
golf career. I was once one of the top ranked ranked junior golfers in the world with
the burning desire to be a professional golfer. I had the competitive edge that not
many kids had my age and it helped me for years. I was the number one ranked
player in North Carolina, I was trying to qualify for PGA tour events at the age of 15,
and I also was talking with big SEC and ACC schools. My whole life revolved
around golfand I couldn t wait to see what my future held. Then I broke my right
hand at the age of 16 which put my game at a standstill. The stress of not being able
to play golf and colleges slowly dropping me off their radar caused me to get some of

The presentation is about some instructions that Hamlet s father, the ghost, gives to

In The Merits of Meritocracy, by David Brooks, Brooks discusses the lives of
middle class children growing up in America. He opens up with an anecdote about
his daughter, to lead into one of his main points: middle class children have busy
and protected childhood, filled with many opportunities supervised by adults

From day one, middle class merits are expected to do great things; they are
expected to excel in school and sports, Brooks contends (194). He furthers this by
saying that the activities that the middle class participates in become the bricks of
their identities (195). Brooks argues that character is not created in youth and just

Detective fiction has often been perceived as a lesser form of literature. Many
scholars believe that detective fiction is below average in quality and does not
offer much more beyond entertainment. Time and time again detective fiction has
been belittled for its quality of literature, being place below other genres. Some
scholars have come to the defense of detective fiction. Scholar R. Austin Freeman
stated, The status of the whole class has been fixed by an estimate formed from
inferior samples (Freeman) and this is true. Detective fiction has been plagued with
average works, however, it does offer more than just a story about crime. Detective
fiction can be used as a medium to comment on social issues. Early in the 20th

Alcohol and Athletics Alcohol, more specifically ethyl alcohol or ethanol, is a
depressant that provides 7 kCal of energy per gram, and is the most abused drug for
athletes and non athletes in the United States. Prior to my research on alcohol, I
assumed that alcohol abuse was not prevalent among college athletes, outside of the
occasional partying that normal college students partake in as well. But according to
Lifestyles and Health Risks of Collegiate Athletes, college athletes generally drink
more heavily and are more likely to engage in binge drinking than non athletes1, and
contrary to my belief, in the psychologic realm, some have argued that alcohol before
Alcoholism, or alcohol dependence, is a disease that includes strong cravings for
alcohol and continuing to drink, despite repeated alcohol related problems.
Although alcoholism can be developed due to excessive consumption, a user is at
higher risk when the disease runs in the family. The four main symptoms of
alcoholism are craving, impaired control, tolerance, and physical dependence. 3,4
For most adults, moderate alcohol use is up to two drinks per day for men and one
drink per day for women and older people. Obivously, the safest way to avoid
alcoholism is to not drink at all. But if one must intake alcohol they should try to stay
around the moderate alcohol intake.
Are there any benefits of alcohol intake? Prior to my research I would have
answered no. But moderate daily alcohol intake actually does have some benefits.
2 oz or 30 mL of 90 proof alcohol, or slightly less than three 12 oz beers reduce a
healthy person s risk of heart attack and stroke, independent of physical activity
level. 5,6,7 In fact, alcohol affects HDL levels just about as strongly as any other
lifestyle factor, and may cause a rise in LDL levels thus stopping a critical step in
plaque formation in the arteries. 8

that rather than a symbol of southern bravery, the Confederate flag symbolizes the
racist, hateful ideas of the Confederacy. The Confederate flag, a clear symbol of
white superiority, prejudice, and slavery, should not be allowed to be perpetuated
by the government in a society where those ideals should be long gone. The discord
over the Confederate flag is rooted in wider debate over the causes of the Civil War

It has been 20 years since Marc Johnston, my guardian, graduated from college.
When he looks back at all the things that he has been through since he moved out of
his parents house, his life has never been the same. He had to learn and struggle
like an infant once again because he never learned how to be independent.

of despair because it just seemed like it has no way out, Marc explained to me.

Ultimately, in my opinion relative to the article and the topic of warranty in
general discussed in Chapter Twelve, brings to light how a warranty not only is a
contract and a written agreement between the buyer and the seller, but it is an
agreement of having a good title, reputation and a business etiquette that the seller is
promising to the buyer. This article also brings to light how the concept of warranty
is not only putting the company s reputation on the line, it is promising certain
performances that if not lived up to would be a breaching of the warranty and thus a
breaking of the trust and reputation of the company between seller and buyer. As
described in Chapter Twelve of the textbook, a good title warranty seems to be what
Kia is trying to establish for its customers, which in my humble opinion is genius to

In moderns times, people have become more reliant to caffeine and, the amount of it
that is available has steadily increased. The amount of caffeine in caffeinated drinks
needs to regulated better and its dangers need to be made more well known. Caffeine
can cause many health problems, especially when it is misused. Namely, it can
cause heart palpitations, twitching. The following paper will hope to cover the
dangers of caffeine, what forms it comes in, the dangers they pose, and how it could

Rutherford B Hayes resigned to campaign all across Ohio to run for governor. The

rights. The election was won by Hayes in 1867, but he had some struggles. He was
a Republican under a Democratic legislator and had no veto power. However, he
helped create a deaf mute school and a school for girls. In his second term, he won
voting rights for black males, and helped what would become Ohio State
University be founded. He also brought the idea of lower taxes and a better life for
prisoners. He left office in 1872 and came back in 1876 and served a year long

In 1876, Hayes won the Republican presidential nomination. Nearing the end of
the election, South Carolina, Louisiana and Florida had trouble with the ballot. To
solve the problem, a group of representatives voted on where all the aforementioned
states votes would go. The majority of the panel were Republican, Hayes s party
and he was voted into office. The Democrats were outraged. There was an
agreement made, and many troops in the south were called back. This officially
