Essay Sarah and Angelina GrimkГ©
Up until and during the mid 1800 s, women were stereotyped and not given the same rights that
men had. Women were not allowed to vote, speak publically, stand for office and had no
influence in public affairs. They received poorer education than men did and there was not one
church, except for the Quakers, that allowed women to have a say in church affairs. Women
also did not have any legal rights and were not permitted to own property. Overall, people
believed that a woman only belonged in the home and that the only rule she may ever obtain was
over her children. However, during the pre Civil war era, woman began to stand up for what they
believed in and to change the way that people viewed society (Lerner, 1971). Two of the most...

Spending time with the slaves, as well as educating them, was something that Sarah very much
looked forward to and enjoyed. That was until her father became aware and completely
prohibited her to have any contact with them. In 1918, at the age of twenty six, Sarah s life
encountered a major turning point. While joining her father on a trip to Philadelphia she met
many well known Quakers. While talking with the men, Sarah found that she was interested in
their beliefs and views on life and what was occurring in society. This intrigued her to ask them
their opinion on male and female equality. When they responded that they were in favor of
equality, she left the Anglican religion, as well as her family, and moved to Philadelphia to
become a Quaker. (VanBurkleo, 2000) However, as she studied and lived with them, she soon
discovered how they felt about slaves and African Americans in general. At this time, her
younger sister Angelina came to live with her and the two began protesting at Quaker meetings.
As children, Angelina and Sarah were extremely close. From the moment Angelina was born,
Sarah looked after her as her primary caregiver. Due to the close bond that they shared, Angelina
looked up to Sarah and followed in many of her footsteps. She too showed great admiration and
sympathy towards the salves on her plantation. Even at the young age of five, she was so
distressed at seeing a slave whipped that she begged a sea captain to help him escape

by Natasha S Morris
Introduction
This course has taught me what it really means to be a Christian. I must admit I was not born into
a Christian home, as I got older I started to learn about God and Jesus Christ. My mother did teach
me right from wrong but going to church and learning of God was not a priority in my home.
Taking this course has taught me that being a Christian is more than just being a kind person. In
this reflection paper I will discuss Did Jesus claim to be God?, If a person is a Christian, does it
matter how they live their life?, What can your local church do to better communicate God s love
to your community? I will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To know that when you die and will be judged is enough to also keep you on the right path if you
are a strong Christian. Throughout my life I have always felt like something is missing in my
life, I was never born into a Christian household, I wasn t brought up to go to church every
Sunday. My family weekends consisted of family gatherings with alcohol, card playing and music.
I never learned about God until I was around 13 years old.
I always felt it was a higher power and someone that planned our destiny. Just never learned or
knew much about him. Now that I am 32 years old I find myself asking and praying for God to
come into my life and save me. I know that I have not lived my life according to his plans and I do
want to be able to make it into his kingdom. As a young Christian woman I am tempted everyday
to stir away from the things that I pray and ask for. Forgiveness, to be saved, to have eternal life
with God. God hears my prayers, as a Christian I try to live right. This brings me to that in order to
claim to be a Christian it does matter how you live your life, it will all be reflected back in your
after life.
What can your local church do to better

The Pros And Cons Of Provider Contracts
Provider contracting occurs when legal contracts are developed in order to determine the terms and
agreements between Managed Care Organizations (MCOs), clinical providers and or healthcare
professionals, i.e. Primary care physicians (PCPs). A contract is defined as an agreement between
private parties creating mutual obligations enforceable by law. The basic elements required for the
agreement to be a legally enforceable contract are: mutual assent, expressed by a valid offer and
acceptance; adequate consideration; capacity; and legality. (Staff, 2017). These negotiations can
have a significant impact on the outcome, functions and delivery of healthcare services, and
provisions can directly affect payment, organization, practices and procedures, confidential records
and clinical decision making ( Managed Care Contracts Key Provisions for Providers , 2017). Some
examples of standard negotiation terms include pre certification requirements, client referrals,
patient data provided to the MCO, geographic and demographic limitations and profiles, claim
submissions, provider panels and payment procedures. Once all terms have been negotiated, a
contract has been created. According to Kongstvedt (2013), a contract should consist of seen
components which include: the title, caption, transition, recitals, definitions, closing or
testimonium, and appended documents or exhibits. The title should briefly state the overall
purpose and be placed at the head of the document, so that it

Princess Diana Eulogy Analysis
On August 31, 1997, Princess Diana died in a fatal car crash while in Paris. Her funeral was held
on September 6, 1997, at Westminster Abbey in London, England. Thousands of people attended,
while many more watched from their homes. A few of her family members spoke great things
about her; however, the eulogy her brother wrote shocked the millions that were watching.
According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary a eulogy is a commendatory oration or writing
especially in honor of one deceased (Merriam Webster Dictionary). This eulogy written for Princess
Diana had many factors that set it apart from typical eulogies, but these aspects made it more
effective.
A typical eulogy consists of praise, happy memories, stories, and positive personality features of
the one deceased. In opposition, this particular eulogy had a negative tone regarding the sadness in
her life, as well as blaming the royal family and the paparazzi for her untimely passing. This eulogy
used aspects that most speeches, essays, and other forms of writing use, including pathos, ethos,
logos, parallelism, imagery, and negative comments toward her unfortunate loss of life.
Earl used pathos to appeal to the audience s emotions. He used it to draw the audience in, and get
their attention by talking about family. An example of pathos from the eulogy is, These were days
I will always treasure. It was as if we had been transported back to our childhood when we spent
such an enormous amount of time together

Antibiotic Resistance In China
When a person takes an antibiotic incorrectly, it kills those that don t have a mutation and also
can kill the good bacteria that your body needs for daily activity such as digesting food. Once all
the good and bad bacteria are dead, those that are left with the genetic mutation start to reproduce
rapidly and eventually take over leaving you with a mass amount of bacteriathat are resistant to
whatever it is that normally kills them and can create a resistance.
There have been several cases of bacterial resistance over the past few years but none deadly and
in the United States until September of 2016 in Nevada. According to the Stat News article by
Helen Branswell, a superbug killed a seventy year old woman in Nevada. The woman had a pan

To start with people need to be educated on how things work in the body and when it is a good
idea to go see a doctor and get antibiotics. Doctors need to play more attention to their patients
and only give antibiotics when needed and need to learn how to prescribe the right amount since
approximately 50% of antibiotics are prescribed incorrectly. The government needs to take some
action and do some research and pay close attention to health organizations and collect data
(Monroe). The government also needs to put restrictions on antibiotics being used in agriculture.
Companies that work in the agriculture business need to stop using antibiotics and pesticides and
growth hormones and let things grow naturally. Americans are known for being wasteful and fat
so why not fix the obesity problem by supplying less, therefore products aren t being wasted,
people aren t eating out of proportion and bacteria aren t becoming resistant in that aspect of life.
There also needs to be more regulations and laws for those that travel outside of the country to be
vaccinated and given a full health exam before they come back into the country. Another way to
prevent this for becoming a serious problem, scientist should come up with new antibiotics that don
t harm good bacteria and kill all strands of one bacteria. All of these

The New Leader Of The Islamic Republic Of Afghanistan
In 2014, Ashraf Ghani was elected as the new leader of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. This
was the second time in the country s history that a direct election was held and a position of power
was democratically transferred. As a matter of fact, the country has made progress since 2001,
when a United Statesled invasion, with the help of UN, toppled the Talibangovernment. After
decades of being ruled mostly under an emirate, monarchy, and dictatorship, Afghanistannow runs
under a democracy. According to Huntington, democracy is where the most powerful collective

The ripples of the fundamentalist movement s decisions changed the political course of the country
since its inception. In September 1996, the Taliban formed a government in the country and ruled it
as the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. It thrived in a post Soviet era when the Taliban promised
stability and prosperity after years of conflict within the country from other Islamic fighter groups.
Unfortunately, the Taliban had religious extremist views that were influenced by their own
interpretations of the Sharia or Islamic law. The group committed massacres across the land just to
gain control over the country. Soon, the Islamic law was brutally enforced by imprisonment,
executions, and amputations for those who disobeyed. Accordingly, the Taliban regime met
opposition from other countries and international organizations since the beginning. In fact, only
the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia acknowledged the Taliban government. It
finally came to the point that the UN Security Council released resolutions in the late 90s
regarding the Taliban s human rights violations and their refusal to extradite another Islamic
extremist group, Al Qaeda. This sparked a 13 year war in Afghanistan that resulted in the loss of
92,000 people in which 26,000 were civilians, and also displaced hundreds and thousands of lives.
There are numerous reasons why the Taliban regime was not

Tulane Scholarship
My parents have always encouraged me to strive to be my best self. They ve always wanted me

physician. This scholarship would not only help pay for college expenses, but encourage me to

I plan to attend Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana. Out of the six schools I applied to I
was accepted to all and offered scholarships to all but one. I chose Tulane because of its academic
rigor and great location. I m not set on a major yet, but it will most likely be neuroscience,
biochemistry, or cell and molecular biology. It is also extremely possible that I will double major

Are Prisons Obsolete, By Angela Davis
Prompt 2 First Draft
Prison Industrial Complex (PIC) is a term used to describe the overlapping interests of government
and industry that use surveillance, policing, and imprisonment as solutions to social, economic, and
political problems. Angela Davis is a journalist and American political activist who believes that
the U.S practice of super incarceration is closer to new age slavery than any system of criminal
justice. She defines the PIC as biased for criminalizing communities of color and used to make
profit for corporations from the prisoner s suffering. In her book, Are Prisons Obsolete?, she argues
that the prison systems are no longer in use and out of date since prisons just keep increasing as
each become more and more populated. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both Luis Valdez and Peter Malae represented the PIC as a social problem of segregating people
from different races, meaning that the prisoners would only be surrounded by people of the
same race as themselves. In addition, Lis Valdez and Peter Malae also concentrated on
representing the PIC as formation of problems occurring from isolating prisoners in their cells
without any contact from anyone or anything. One of the differences between the way that Luis
Valdez and Peter Malae represent the PIC is that Luis Valdez focuses on the issue of mass media
images revolving around Mexicans/Mexican Descents. This issue uses media to keep
stereotypes alive of Mexican/Mexican Descents that makes all of them perceived as criminals.
Another difference between the way that Peter Malae and Luis Valdez represent the PIC is that
Peter Malae focuses on the lack of freedom and surveillance of this system. In this topic, Peter
Malae creates a menacing mood for the audience that allows them to feel the feeling of living in
jail with the fear of getting punished and tortured while also having to be conscious of his/her
actions (lack of freedom) around

Immature Wuthering Heights
In Wuthering Heights, both Edgar and Nelly have interesting views on Catherine. It s funny
how they both have negative perspectives on her, but each have total differences. One person
sees her as totally immature. The other sees her not using her full potential. However, the two
see Catherine in different angles opposed to how they interacted, and how the had time to think
on their own experiences. In Nelly s point of view I can to relate to what she sees. She sees
Catherine as a big baby. I agree with her completely. Catherine just throws temper tantrums just to

Strength In What Remains Deo Character Analysis
Through Deo s tale in Strength in What Remains, Tracy Kidder describes a strong, humane and
intelligent man, Deo, who struggled all his way to his dream and finally make it. Is Deo
successful? Of course, he is because he overcomes all the danger and difficulty and finally
becomes a great man to his people. Deo is a really lucky man but also unlucky. The lucky is that
he met a lot of people who helped him go through his challenges; the unlucky is that he suffered
from the pain of losing loved ones, starving, death threats, being discriminated and etc. It is a
rugged road for Deo to success. Like Kidder states in Strength in What Remains , Deo was

could not stand seeing the death of the old and useless cow, Yaruyange, Lonjino bought the cow

even lives were worthless in Burundi. He also told Deo a lot of stories about diligence, which
gave Deo deep impress that people should work hard for gaining their own lives. It is very

luck from Deo s father is that he believes in education, which most Burundi people, even Lonjino,

However, he still believed in education, so he kept Deo in school and even gave him more time
to study. It is very meaningful to Deo. The education gives Deo a complete different future, which
opens the door to Deo s success. The knowledge let Deo get out of poor and ignorance. This is a

Beyond The Mason Jar Analysis
Beyond the Mason Jar is not just a magazine, it is a project that I put a significant amount of
thought and passion into. The Zero Waste Movement is a movement that I actively participate in
and deeply value in my life. I certainly did not want to write a magazine about something I had
no prior interest in. Not to say that creating a magazine about completely new information
wouldn t be interesting in some way, but rather that I was able to really invest myself into the
topic I chose because of my close relationship with the topic. Through the creation of Beyond the

I included a quote by Mother Teresa that I love and felt accurately expressed my purpose for the

of the things that I lot of people either in or joining the ZWM is the struggle for perfection and
impact (myself included). It can be really daunting when you see pictures of waterways
overwhelmed by plastic debris in other developing countries or a video of a plastic straw stuck
in the nose of a poor sea turtle (that is another story in itself). I think it is vital for the readers to
realize that we can only do so much to aid in situations like those. However, I want to show them
that the ripples we cast do make a difference. I have found that to be very true in my life. Every
time someone tells me they think of me because of some plastic they threw away or something
they did to be more sustainable, the fire in my heart grows exponentially. That is the power that I
want the reader to realize they have. Next, the couple of advertisements that I included in my
magazine are sort of akin to transitions. I created both of them from products that I use in my life
and paired them with rather bleak statistics to persuade the reader to think twice about the

How Did The French Revolution Influence Art
The French Revolution and the Art it Influenced
Liberty, equality, fraternity, or death; the last, much the easiest to bestow, O Guillotine! wrote the
famous author Charles Dickens, in his classic book, The Tale of Two Cities. The French
Revolution (1789 1796) was a fight for liberty and equality, which ultimately led to the execution of
Queen Marie Antoinette and King Louis XVI, by way of guillotine. And, eventually Napoleon
Bonaparte became the ruler of France. This was a transforming time in not just France s history,
but European history and World history. The people of France were fed up with the monarchy
and the burden of high taxes, as the monarch rulers squandered money away while the people
faced famine and poverty. The Revolution was so powerful that artists not only painted about it,
but they became revolutionaries themselves, like Jacques Louis David, who is famous for his
works, Oath of the Horratii, and Napoleon Crossing the Alps. In 1830, the second French
Revolution broke out and this was known as the Three Glorious Days , in which the people of
France protested Charles X after he imposed ordinances that prevented freedom of the press and
increased the power of his monarchy ( French Revolution , n.d.). The famous allegorical painting
by Eugene Delacroix, Liberty Leading the People, is a historical depiction of the second French
Revolution and illustrates the connection between socioeconomic and political issues, and art.
This paper will look at David s Napoleon Crossing the Alps, and Delacroix s Liberty Leading the
People and analyze the impact of the French Revolution on art of those periods.
Jacques Louis David (1748 1825) was one of the most famous Neoclassist painters, as well as a
devout revolutionary in 19th century France. He painted works that some consider propaganda of
the time, yet he did so in pure Neoclassical fashion (Pollitt, n.d.). Eventually, he became the
personal painter for Napoleon Bonaparte, as he continued to support the revolution through art. In
Napoleon Crossing the Alps, we see a diagonal, yet static composition. The diagonal that is created
by the horse is reminiscent of Baroque figures, yet it lacks the movement that the Baroque style
portrayed so well.

Importance Of Violent Conflict Is Unethical
In some instances, but very few, violent conflict can be considered ethical. Even in these
situations, violent conflict is only considered ethical to an extent. Times when violent conflict
can be considered ethical are: self defense and revenge. Self defense is only ethical to an extent
because at some point it is no longer self defense. Revenge is only ethical when it is absolutely
necessary, and and at some point it can no longer be considered ethical because it just turns to
violence. One instance where violent conflict can be deemed ethical is a situation where your
entire family has been kidnapped and/or killed by someone or a group of people. Another instance
would be if an entire country is being attacked by another country, and all or most of its citizens
are killed, when there was no true declaration of war. Other than these two possibilities, violent
conflict cannot be considered ethical. Violent conflict is considered unethical because of the
inhumane trauma it causes to people. An example of traumatic violence would be the bombings of
Hiroshimaand Nagasaki, Japan through the use of nuclear weapons. Even though these bombings
might have been necessary at the time, does not mean they were an ethical decision.
A clear representation of how unethical it is to use nuclear weapons is described in John Hersey s
book Hiroshima, specifically in the chapter called The Fire . Hersey describes the horrific view that
Mr. Tanimoto had to live through after the bombing.

both Maxon s and Aspen s perspective which will intrigue them into reading a book from a boy s
perspective, as most of the princess books are all about a happy ending, and crown, but not this
one. From the previous two book you would have got an image on how Kris is as a character,
but this book will change your perspective on her and King Clarkson. The One is all about the
everyone s opinion and standing up to the expectations of IllГ©a, as the country is going through a

way as it might be the future for the United States. The US might owe a lot of money to China,

Compare And Contrast Christianity And Judaism
Almost all mankind is curious about knowing about the creation of the universe, but it remains
mysterious. Although some might be convinced through the Bible or other scripture while others
are still skeptical. Of world s three monotheistic religions (that is, the belief that there is only one
God), Christianityand Judaismshare the most similarities and differences between the two religions
in terms of history, beliefs, and practices. In fact, Christianity wouldn t be originated if Judaism
was not because they come from the same foundation. Judaism is one of the oldest world religions,
dating its origin back in the 500s 400s BCE. During the time, Abraham followed Godas he promised
to make Abraham the father of a great nation. Through Old Testament and promises to Moses,
David and the prophets it slowly reveals God s plan. The people of Israel got a law through Moses

The Jewish people, also known as Hebrews at the time were the first to worship one God (the
Creator and Ruler), whose name is Yahweh. The most common opening to prayers in Judaism
called the Shema, Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is one (Robinson Rodrigues, p. 51), hence are
continually retold there is one god, no other. The God of Christianity is the same as the Jewish
God, it is a God of mercy and forgiveness. In Christianity one God consists of three distinct people

The Problems Associated with Underage Drinking Essay
Curiosity to appear more grown up may be the reason why most adolescents take their first drink
of an alcoholic beverage. The ability to seen more grown up can intensify drinking at a younger
age. Consequently, as alcohol is seen as the Forbidden Fruit, it encourages the want to drink for
people under the age of twenty one. The use of alcoholby adolescents is widely viewed as
disobedience in American society. Although, alcohol use is technically illegal until the age of
twenty one (in 19 states the consumption of alcohol in not specifically illegal for people under the
age of twenty one), there is still an excessive use of dinking in teenagers today. Since alcohol is

When you start drinking, it s kind of a mystery, something you can t do. ( Alcohol Abuse and
Youth 1) Parents who continue to be highly involved with their children, their kids are less
likely to drink. Parental interaction with at risk teens is far more effective in keeping young
people away from alcoholic beverages. As proof, teens who eat dinner with their whole family
twice a week or less are sixty five percent more likely to have tried alcohol than those who have
family dinner five or more nights a week. However, harsh punishments given out by parents for
drinking usually results in rebellious behavior and a lack of communication between

Progressives versus Populists
The onset 20th Century holds two main movements: The Populists and The Progressives. These
two parties are similar, but their policies and philosophies hold diversities. The Populists party
comprises of farmers and poor whites in the south; they focus on eastern interests i.e. railroads
and banks. The Populists also call for government action, to intervene and to create an efficient
society which includes a flourishing middle class. The Progressives include educated middle class
men and men of universities, they too demanded for reform, but accomplish their goals through
legislation and the judicial system. The Progressives focused on reform as well as destroying the
Robber Barons. Some Progressives were actually a part of the Populist Party; they weren t
contradictory parties. To simplify the matter The Populist party held picnics in order to present
discussions, while the Progressives hold educated and sophisticated men of great esteem who were
much more formal. The Populist Party was the people s party, hence the name Populist, the party
was created in the late 1800s when the Southern Famer alliance contacted Powderly, the head of
The Knights of Labor. The party s first platform was called the Omaha Platformwhich called for the
abolition of the national bank, graduated income tax, direct election of senators, civil service
reform, an eight hour work week, and the gov t control of railroads, telegraphs and telephones. The

The Magical Elasticity of Peter Pan Essay
Question:
Explore Peter Hollindale s claim that Peter Pan retains its magical elasticity and its ongoing
modernity (Reader 2, p.159), with reference to different versions since its original production.
Peter Pan whether as a stage play, a book, a stage musical, a live action film or a pantomime has
endured for more than a century as arguably the most famous, and certainly most influential, stories
for children. First performed in 1904, the fairytale drama has been addressing the ever changing
boundaries between childhood and adulthood ever since. Educationalist and literary critic Peter
Hollindale in A Hundred Years of Peter Pan(Reader 2, p. 159) asserts that the play retains its
magical elasticity and its ongoing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This first production included a number of scenes which were cut from later performances, and the
1908 scene entitled An Afterthought was performed just once during Barrie s lifetime. Published in
1957, it has, since the 1980s, become the standardized ending to the play which we now know.
Other alterations to the original script were, according to Nicola J. Watson in her Introduction to
Peter Pan (Reader 2, p. 143), down to the actors themselves. She contends there was improvisation,
especially during Hook s soliloquy, by the actor Gerald du Maurier, while the notion of Peter as
untouchable resulted in the change of actress playing the part. Already we can see the
adaptability and elasticity of Peter Pan the 1928 play script is not an accurate record of how the
play was initially performed, but rather it is the play which Barrie wanted his audience to see in
print. The play text includes a substantial cross over from the 1911 novel Peter and Wendy, and also
omits a number of scenes which were initially played, many largely down to improvisation.
At the time of the play s performance, during the Edwardian era, it was noted by theatre historian
Tracy Davis that Peter Pan was first produced at a transitional moment in stage history , which was
characterized by the waning influence of pantomime, the emergence of the Christmas fairy play,
and the prevalence of realism in straight drama (EA300 Study Guide, p. 145). In

Militarism In Ww1
War World War I (WWI). Words that bring back some horrid memories of an unpleasant time. The

Militarism was the belief or desire of a government or the people should maintain a strong
military and ready to use it when needed and aggressively to defend or promote national
interests. Building up your army can be a major set of to other countries, making them feel as if
they are about to get attacked. Also other countries would want to have more power than the
others so they would have a competition that could lead to war. For example, evidence shows in
a chart by Richard Overy, in 1999, all the countries were building up their armies and navy and
spending lots of money on them. This can cause war because if the other countries saw that
another country has a good military they wouldn t want to be unprepared and they start building
up their army and then all hell breaks loose. Another example written in, The Hammer or the
Anvil , by Bernhard von Bulow; he writes, There is no welfare for us without power, without a
strong army and a strong fleet. (Bulow 1). This shows to readers that they were readying
themselves for some kind of war. This shows to readers that militarism is obviously the underlying
cause for WWI, because without a military there would be no

Post Impressionism And Post-Impressionism
Post Impressionism is a French art movement that developed roughly between 1886 and 1905.
Post Impressionism was coined by English art critic Roger Fry for work of such late 19th century
painters. Most painters other than Van Gogh were French and began as Impressionists they each
had their own style of highly person art. The pure, flat color, heavy outline and the decorative
quality of medieval stained glass and manuscript illumination. Two artists explored the expressive
potential pure of color and line. The objective of nature in terms of the effects of color and light.
Post Impressionist limited aim in favor of more ambitious expression. However, to pure brilliant
color of Impressionism. Post Impressionist movement was not lengthy. But most scholars place
post impressionism from the mid to late 1880s 1900s. Rewald considered this a continuation of his
1946 study, History of Impressionism and pointe out a subsequent volume dedicated to the second
half of the post impressionist period .
There are many different painters that painted while they began as impressionist. I guess you
could say that some of the characteristics that are considered with some of the paintings of Post
Impressionism would be that they all have some unique brushstrokes and a bright palette of
colors. If you look at some of the art work under post impressionism you can see each of them has
a different type of brushstrokes. Some might have a line looking type, more of a dotted type or

Major Depression Essay
Depression and other mood disorders tend to proliferate as a result of multiple, complex, biological,

Traditional genetic linkage studies and candidate gene methods have been used with reasonably
limited achievement in major depression. Genetic models of etiology commonly believe a large
number of genes with comparatively little contributions to liability. Progresses in high

effect sizes (Hong and Tsai, 2003). It is of particular clinical concerns those studies which are
based on pathophysiological ideas (candidate genes) and in particular those that observe the
possibility of patients to respond to particular treatments. Serotonin (5 HT) systems is involved in
Genetic susceptibility because tryptophan reduction in healthy individuals is observed to stimulate

Watchmen is different from most superhero stories. For instance, the superheroes in Watchmen can

theme is seen when the citizens of the city throw shade at Dr. Manhattan for causing cancer (Moore

passed a law that forbids them from existing in their superherostate. In other words, they are not

Tipping Point Chapter Summary
Introduction In The Tipping Point, Gladwell follows trends from their beginning to their end and
he tries to figure out why some ideas tip and others do not. Firstly, Gladwell gives the three rules
for the tipping point which are: contagiousness, the fact that little causes can have big effects, and
transformation happens in one moment. In the introductory chapter of the book, Gladwell uses the
syphilis epidemic of Baltimore, along with other outbreaks of disease, to illustrate his three rules.
He restates the three rules more simply as the law of few, the stickiness factor and the power of
context. Gladwell begins by discussing the incomprehensible recovery of then terminally uncool
Hush Puppies shoes amongst a few of hipsters in Manhattan s cutting edge regions in the 1990s, a
development which soon extended across the United States and lead to exponential increases in the
company s sales. Using this sensation as an introduction to the book s methodical theme, the author
states that he will recognize, dissect and give details on the mechanisms by which certain trends
occur, while others fail. Chapter 1: The Three Rules of Epidemics Gladwell declares that most
trends, styles, and occurrences are natural and spread according to paths of transmission and
carriage that are patently similar. In most of these consequences, whether the event in question is
the spread of syphilis in Baltimore s unpleasant streets or the unexpected spike in the acceptance of
Hush Puppies sales,

Significance Of The Back And The Future Trilogy
The Significance of the Back to the Future Trilogy
Earlier this month, actor Michael J. Fox tweeted Only off by a year, not bad. Congrats @Cubs.
This is so heavy. (@realmikefox) His tweet was a reference to a prediction made in the 1989
film, Back to the Future Part II, in which Fox starred as the lead character of Marty. Even though
the film was released twenty seven years ago, and its predecessor was released four years prior to
that, the tweet itself garnered over eighteen thousand Twitter likes, showcasing that series relevance
alive in today s society.
The Back to the Future trilogy has made its way into the hearts of millions; still being loved now
just as much as when it was first released. The film trilogy, produced by Steven Spielberg and
directed by Robert Zemeckis, stars Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd as the lead characters.
Supporting actors include Lea Thompson, Thomas F. Wilson, and Crispen Glover. The storyline
follows Marty McFly (Fox) as he travels through time in a Delorean that has been manipulated
by his best friend, the kooky scientist, Doc Brown (Lloyd). Throughout three films, Marty
attempts to re align history and make it back to 1985 unharmed. The series was a success at the
box office, making almost one billion dollars worldwide between all three films (Thompson, 667).
In addition to the success it had when it was first released, Back to the Future is still relatable to
audiences today, many of which were born long after the decades

Humanities’ Irrational and its Effects on a Utopian Society
The human psyche is divided into rational and irrational drives. Courtesy of Sigmund Freud, it is
divided into the id, ego, and super ego. According to Freud, although the super ego controls the
other two to present ourselves in a rational state within society, the id often tends to be out of
complete control by the conscious, making it an unconscious action. For Freud, it s the recognition
that the irrational is there, that it must be controlled to take over. Man s aggressive nature does tend
to overpower the mind, leading to irrational actions. Both Freud s Civilizationand its Discontents
and Dostoyevsky s Notes from Underground show how humans are controlled by their irrational
drives and that, as a result, the attempts to create a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Reavers represent Freud s mentioned id, or irrational and aggressive drives. Due to groups such
as the Reavers and the Alliance, civilization trying to improve and create a perfect society will fail
due to human s inevitable ways of acting through their irrational psyche. A utopian society isn t
possible because of this and Freud suggests accepting such a reality with imperfections in its
inhabitants. Underestimated are the powerful forces or irrationalism... [which] would erupt with
devastating fury in twentieth century political life...extolling violence (Perry 701 2).Those
civilizations that attempt to create a utopian society create the illusion of civilization, the illusion
that humans are, in fact, civilized.
Enter Dostoyevsky, an anti government, anti socialist thinker and writer who offers a strong theory
on man s irrational and failures to create a Crystal Palace society. Being exposed to violence, death,
and government suppression through his life, Dostoyevsky was able to write a notable anti utopian
novel. Moving to the discussion of the rational versus irrational thoughts supported by Freud, rather
than viewing humanity as being innately good, Dostoyevsky viewed humans as being innately
depraved, irrational, and rebellious (Perry 682). Like Freud, Dostoyevsky opposed Enlightenment
philosophies of rationality, and believed irrationality was a dominant

a beneficial idea. During the 1800s and early 1900s, Imperialismwas seen as a benefit to some and
others did not see it as this. Many European nations such as Great Britain, France, Germany,

Jules Ferry s idea about making the trade better is a great idea, but unfortunately would not work
like he thinks. The other country would not be willingly let imperialists take over. Jule s speech
continues with a response from M. Camille Pelletan, an honorable audience member, he states
What is this civilization which you impose with can non balls? What is it but another form of
barbarism? Don t these populations, these inferior races, have the same rights as you? Aren t they
masters of their own houses? (258). Pelletan jeers and condemns Ferry, but Ferry sticks to his racist
ideas and continues to put the inferior races under him. Ferry continues to talk about the superiority
he thinks Europe has over everyone. He states, Gentlemen, I must speak from a higher and more
truthful plane. (258). Ferry is showing that he thinks he is superior to those he is speaking to and
sees himself as a superior to others and that he is above the inferiors. He then continues to make it
clear that superiors have control over the inferiors, It must be stated openly that, in effect, superior
races have rights over inferior races. (258). Throughout his speech, Ferry tries to show what the
positives of Imperialism is, but does not acknowledge the negatives for the expansion and take over
of certain territories.

The Importance Of Voting In Congress
Topic Statement The public in America is disillusioned to believe that they run the government

that the rich are ruling the country while the general public is left with no choice but to follow
the rules set in favor of the few. Ironically, there is an indifference towards this attitude in the

While certain groups believe that contributions are made to campaign of a particular politician

Good And Evil In The Tell-Tale Heart
Some would say good and some would say evil, some would say that humans are both, unless
forced to take a side. Human s do have good in them, for if they didn t there would be no
kindness in the world, for example taking the time to help a troubled old lady cross a busy street.
Of course to be a humanyou are going to have a small amount of evilresiding inside of you, for all
humans have been selfish at some point in their life. Hopefully, you get the idea now, that I
believe that humans are inherently evil. People can become evil from fear. In the short story The
Tell Tale Heart , is about a man who is filled with loath towards an older man s eyes, I think it was

during a memory the Giver transmuted into Jonas, but in their world now they no longer have
any physical touching in between each other, such as they are not allowed to touch people who
are outside of their family unit, and the families themselves already do not touch each other very
often. On a separate occasion, the Giver was explaining to Jonas about color, There was a time,
actually when flesh was many different colors... We ve never completely mastered Sameness. I
suppose the genetic scientists are still hard at work trying to work the kinks out... (Lowery pg.

of the world, and the differences between our looks will disappear forever. And they will be cursed

Porphyria s Lover Comparison
In Robert Browning s poem Porphyria s lover, the narrator killed his lover to remain in his love
forever. There are two main characters in this poem: the female character, Porphyria, and her
lover. Her lover is low class while Porphyria comes from a decent family. Because of this
difference of social class, Porphyria could not give up her, everything for her love; however, she
came to see her lover one night and confessed her love to him. Then, he killed her strangling her
throat by her hair in order to last her love to him forever. And he confessed his love toward her
holding her dead body all over the night. The poem was written in Victorian Era which was the age
of transition from traditional society to modern society. There still existed... Show more content on

In both poems, two male characters fall in love with a beautiful woman and get heartburn
become lovesick. However, while a male character in Porphyria s lover turns his love toward
Porphyria out to be lunatic and psychotic, a male character in To idealizes Jane as an unreachable
being and shows his love in a platonic and sublime way. In both poems, female characters are
beautiful and attractive, so male characters are captivated by their beauty and hunger for their
affection throughout the poem. Furthermore, both male characters have a critical obstacle to
achieve their love difference of social status and marriage status. In Browning s poem, male
character is from low class while his lover Porphyria is from decent family. In Victorian Era,
social class still existed and it determined almost everything, even one s marriage. In addition,
women s right was not equally treated as men s at that time, so dominant violence toward
women was frequent. In this reason, although the male character excuses he killed his lover in
order to keep her love to him forever, it seems that he projects his anger or madness at
discrimination caused by social class as he killed his aristocratic lover. On the other hand, in
Shelley s poem, the male character, actually Shelley himself, idolizes her lover as a divine
figure. In fact, Jane is a married woman, so it might be impossible to accept his love. Thus, as he
portrays her as an unreachable being, he might comfort himself her rejection to his love. While
male character in Browning s poem chooses a very radical and violent way to keep his love, one
in Shelley s poem chooses romantic but somewhat passive way to keep his love. However, as both
male characters show their true or unrefined feeling and love toward their lovers, these works
represent one of the good examples in English Romantic

Sexual Assault And Child Molestation Cases Essay
September 23, 2016
The Honorable Alan M. Wilner
County Courts Building
401 Bosley Avenue, Room 13 M
Towson, Maryland 21204
Re: Propensity Evidence in Sexual Assault/Child Molestation Cases
Dear Judge Wilner:
As Vice Chair of the House Judiciary Committee, I am writing to request that the Rules Committee
establish a rule to allow for the admissibility of certain evidence of similar behavior by the
defendant in sexual assault and child molestation cases. The adoption of such a rule will effectively
end the current disunion between the Federal Rules of Evidence and the Maryland Rules of
Evidence.
As you know, under Maryland Rule 5 404(b), evidence of prior crimes may be admitted to show
some special relevance to the issues in the present case in very limited factual scenarios. The
evidence may not be used to show that the accused is a bad person but it should be permitted to
illustrate (1) the defendant s motive to commit the crime, (2) the defendant s intent to commit the
crime, (3) that the defendant engaged in a common scheme or plan to achieve an overarching
criminal enterprise, (4) that the defendant was, in fact, the person who committed the crime, (5)
and that there was a lack of mistake or accident on the part of the defendant when the crime was
committed. With the adoption of Rule 5 404(b), came the growing list of exceptions. The
exceptions specifically listed in the rule are not a laundry list of exceptions; they are a
representative list of

Suicide In Karmac Mccarthy s The Road
The book The Road is set in a post apocalyptic nuclear world. The book is centered on two main
characters known simply as the Man and the Boy and their journey southwest to the coast. I
believe that the characters are not named on purpose because the book s purpose is to show how
far a parent will go for a child. The characters are not named to show that this book could really be
about anyone.
The world that The Road is set in is hell. The world is set in a constant state of winter and ash
from the atomic bombs is everywhere. Most vegetation is gone. So, because of the bleak world and
the amount of death that food shortages and the weather have caused a central theme in The Road
is suicide. You find out about a third of the way through the book that the motherof the boy killed
herself early in the boys life. The father contemplates suicide several times. On one hand he
desperately wants to join his wife in death but on the other he knows he has to protect his son until
he is ready to take care of himself. Protecting his son is the only thing in life more important than
suicide to the Man. This is shown in a conversation that the boy and the man have about courage ...

basic parental desire for better for their children. The father wants so much for his son to end up
having a good life. When times are toughest for the pair, the man motivates the child by saying
that they are carrying the fire. The fire is symbolic for hope. The man wants the boy to know

SWARM Stuart Keeler
Each day, Calgarians hop on and off at numerous different C Train platforms. While most of the
platforms are at ground level, sometimes there is a drab feeling with the concrete surroundings.
When heading downtown, individuals are likely to come across SWARM by Stuart Keeler if they
stop at the 6th Street and 7th Avenue C Train station. The glass above in the ceiling lights to station
with warm colors, as the sunlight shines through the red and yellow panels. The grid like blocks
are akin to the view when flying towards Calgary and the grids of the farmers fields and plots.
Affixed to the glass ceiling are maple leaf seeds, that are often seen blowing in the wind; they
gather like a flock of birds. The piece is reminiscent of southern Alberta roots, and the warm colors
are allusive of the beautiful sunsets that light the sky in bright red, orange and yellow. Overall,

nature and its ability to coincide with these manmade landscapes. The two sculptures are located
on opposites sides of Crowchild Trail; if followed northwest Crowchild Trail can take Calgarians
outside the city and into the scenic southern Alberta countryside. This piece helps to foster a sense
of belonging in nature. Rather than the expressway separating either side, it is brought together

Justice And Justice In Roscoe Pound s A Theory Of Justice
III. JUSTICE WITH AND WITHOUT LAW
Legal films narrate stories that have been made dramatic by invoking the audience s sense of
justice and injustice. Since the early Greek tragedies, justice betrayed or denied, sought and
vindicated, has been a central element of drama . But what does justice truly mean? Rawls (in his A
Theory of Justice) equates justice with fairness, while Dworkin (in Justice for Hedgehogs) talks of
justice encompassing equality, liberty and most importantly being inseparable from law. More
recently, Roscoe Pound (in his Justice According to Law) highlights the possibility of both justice
with law and justice without law.
Pound states that there was justice even before the law came into being, and even now, the laws
are amended or moulded for every unique situation that presents itself to the system. So, while a
certain measure of justice may be achieved by following the law since it is uniform, ... Show more

Both Orwell and Salinger use escapism to present both protagonists as lacking identity as they both
want to get away from their issues. Winston does this by escaping his issues without addressing
them, resulting in him becoming someone who fully supports the totalitarian regime. The only way
for him to express his subversive thoughts is through his dreams where O Brien states we shall meet
again in the place where there is no darkness . The continuous repetition of this quote throughout
the novelmakes it seem like a mantra, portraying the need for society to be a place where people
can let their thoughts and feelings out into the light and no longer be repressed. And may refer to
an emergence of a free society, On the other hand, the quote

What Would Happen if the New T shirt Market Operated as a Free Market? The producers in the

such as subsidies, quotas, and tariffs have limited economic success to a fortunate few. According to
the author Pietra Rivoli, the winners at various stages of my T shirt s life are adept not so much at
competing in markets but at avoiding them. These winners include the U.S. cotton farmer and the
China apparel industry. Their market dominance and profitability have benefitted significantly from

However, this transition will be gradual given the U.S farmers advantage in producing more yields
per acre and higher grade cotton. With the elimination of U.S. government subsidies, cotton textile
manufacturers will pay more for cotton. As the leading buyer of cotton, the Chinese apparel
industry s profitability will be reduced due to their inability to pass on increased cotton prices to
their buyers. China s manufacturing costs had already increased by as much as 40% due to higher
market wages and costs with complying with worker and environmental protections. Although
China has substantial labor and is accused of utilizing sweat shops to keep their costs extremely
low, their increasing manufacturing costs have opened the door to other countries with cheap labor
such as Vietnam and Pakistan. Although the Chinese apparel manufacturers would lose
profitability due to rising cotton prices and competition from emerging countries, they stand to
gain the most from the removal of U.S. quotas and tariffs. According to the author, in 2007, 95%
of the 20 billion garments Americans made were purchased overseas. Due to U.S. trade barriers,
China s share of the U.S. apparel import was only 30%. Once these barriers were removed, Chinese
apparel would flood the American market due to their low cost and dominance in garment
manufacturing. Experts predict that China could eventually supply 85% of U.S. apparel. As they

My Reflection Of My Leadership As A Leader
There are many individual questions on this were scored lower than I would like, but they are
areas that I felt I excelled in on the other questions, It looks like I scored higher in the Seek First

thought of how ones actions can and do affect others, Because of that I am sensitive to the
feelings of others and seek to not only understand them, but make sure they are not caused
discomfort by me, I feel this makes me a good leader because I can also lead others to being
accountable for their actions and natural consequences of those actions while keeping their
feelings and needs at hand, This is something that I have learned over the years and am sure I
still need to work on, As any leader I have strengths as well as weaknesses, I feel one of my
strengths is my willingness to listen to others, I have always let other know that I am open to
their suggestions, I make it clear that another s idea might be a better way to do something, If the
idea is good and things can be changed then they should, I feel my willingness to not only listen,
but to hear what they say is why I feel this is one of my strengths, Typically people only truly listen
only 25 percent of time, The other 75 percent is spent without truly listening to what a person is

Gender Depiction in Horror Films Essay
Gender Depiction in Horror Films
There has been a large variety of horror films produced throughout the last fifty years. People are
always going to be frightened and scared by different types of horror films. But, what type of
horror film scares more people, and were men or women more frightened by these horror films?
Each one of the horror films had its own agenda to frighten its audience using several different
methods of horror. Some of these methods were more so directed at the female audience than the
male audience. Most horror movies show the female as being vulnerable, because in real life
females are defenseless against monsters.
Are women portrayed as being defenseless?

films more entertaining. Even if the women are displayed as being more defenseless than men most
of the time, in some cases there will be someone that ends up saving them in the end.
Are women singled out to be killed more in slasher films?
The first big stalker film stalker film to come out was John Carpenter?s Halloween in 1978.
Halloween took a reported $325,000 to be made and grossed over $80 million world wide up
until 1987. This gave Halloween one of the highest proportional returns in film history (Waller,
p. 87). The first film to copy its narrative and cinematic structure was Friday the 13th . I believe
that younger community and women are the target market for stalker films like Halloween. Vera
Dika writes, ??R rated films were frequented by adolescents between the ages of 12 and 17, and
these films of excessive violence against women found an audience that was 55 percent female?
(Waller, p. 87). Horror movies portray women as vulnerable a lot of the time. Especially in slasher
movies, women are often incapable of defending themselves against a stronger horror film type
villain. It is almost like they are waiting to be victimized.

Many people assume that indigenous people have never made mistakes in the way they treat the
non human world around them. This is not entirely a reality; many indigenous peoples did not start
with already having traditions that treat the environment in positive and sustainable ways. With
these mistakes being made in the beginning, the most important thing is that indigenous people
recognized that their original ways harmed the non human world around them and that they must
begin to do something different to better treat nature. It is this way of thinking that has allowed for

One of the many traditions in the first salmon ceremony. This ceremony is one that is done every
year at the start of the fishing season for salmon. The first salmon ceremony is a way that the
tribespeople can show to the salmon people that they respect them and will not overfish the salmon.
The tribes believe that there is a salmon village under the sea. They would send a scout out and
our people would catch that first salmon. Once we treat that first salmon with respect it will go
back and tell the salmon people it was treated with great respect by our tribe, then it will bring the
rest of the people from the salmon village for us to be caught (Huchoosedah, 2:52 3:14)
The way that the Lushootseed people treat the salmon is the same way that they would treat
another person. In the salmon village under the sea lived people just like them that when they
would leave their village they would put on their salmon appearance and be seen by others as
salmon. The idea that there is a village of salmon enforces the idea that salmon should be treated
with the same respect as salmon. By treating the salmon with respect and not overfishing the
salmon, the tribes are able to have an abundance of salmon each year that will continue for many

Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks were the leaders of this extraordinary boycott against
segregation and inequality laws. They fought to end bus segregation against blacks, whites and alao

With her parents former slaves she had the urge to end segregation. Facing the unfairness of
segregation, hundreds of African Americans held a mass protest known as the Montgomery Bus

unconstitutional , but also paved the way for Civil Rights.
To begin with, facing the unfairness of segregation, all African Americans were fed up with the
Bus Segregation Laws which enforced separate seating in the back of city buses.. Civil Rights
Movement activists tended to struggle with segregation. Many activists have realized the unfairness
and this is the reason they want to change the laws. They believed they were unfair and illegal to

  • 3. Essay Sarah and Angelina GrimkГ© Up until and during the mid 1800 s, women were stereotyped and not given the same rights that men had. Women were not allowed to vote, speak publically, stand for office and had no influence in public affairs. They received poorer education than men did and there was not one church, except for the Quakers, that allowed women to have a say in church affairs. Women also did not have any legal rights and were not permitted to own property. Overall, people believed that a woman only belonged in the home and that the only rule she may ever obtain was over her children. However, during the pre Civil war era, woman began to stand up for what they believed in and to change the way that people viewed society (Lerner, 1971). Two of the most... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Spending time with the slaves, as well as educating them, was something that Sarah very much looked forward to and enjoyed. That was until her father became aware and completely prohibited her to have any contact with them. In 1918, at the age of twenty six, Sarah s life encountered a major turning point. While joining her father on a trip to Philadelphia she met many well known Quakers. While talking with the men, Sarah found that she was interested in their beliefs and views on life and what was occurring in society. This intrigued her to ask them their opinion on male and female equality. When they responded that they were in favor of equality, she left the Anglican religion, as well as her family, and moved to Philadelphia to become a Quaker. (VanBurkleo, 2000) However, as she studied and lived with them, she soon discovered how they felt about slaves and African Americans in general. At this time, her younger sister Angelina came to live with her and the two began protesting at Quaker meetings. As children, Angelina and Sarah were extremely close. From the moment Angelina was born, Sarah looked after her as her primary caregiver. Due to the close bond that they shared, Angelina looked up to Sarah and followed in many of her footsteps. She too showed great admiration and sympathy towards the salves on her plantation. Even at the young age of five, she was so distressed at seeing a slave whipped that she begged a sea captain to help him escape ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Sample Reflection Paper n Reflection Paper May 3, 2012 Theo 104 by Natasha S Morris Introduction This course has taught me what it really means to be a Christian. I must admit I was not born into a Christian home, as I got older I started to learn about God and Jesus Christ. My mother did teach me right from wrong but going to church and learning of God was not a priority in my home. Taking this course has taught me that being a Christian is more than just being a kind person. In this reflection paper I will discuss Did Jesus claim to be God?, If a person is a Christian, does it matter how they live their life?, What can your local church do to better communicate God s love to your community? I will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To know that when you die and will be judged is enough to also keep you on the right path if you are a strong Christian. Throughout my life I have always felt like something is missing in my life, I was never born into a Christian household, I wasn t brought up to go to church every Sunday. My family weekends consisted of family gatherings with alcohol, card playing and music. I never learned about God until I was around 13 years old. I always felt it was a higher power and someone that planned our destiny. Just never learned or knew much about him. Now that I am 32 years old I find myself asking and praying for God to come into my life and save me. I know that I have not lived my life according to his plans and I do want to be able to make it into his kingdom. As a young Christian woman I am tempted everyday to stir away from the things that I pray and ask for. Forgiveness, to be saved, to have eternal life with God. God hears my prayers, as a Christian I try to live right. This brings me to that in order to claim to be a Christian it does matter how you live your life, it will all be reflected back in your after life. What can your local church do to better ... • 6. The Pros And Cons Of Provider Contracts Provider contracting occurs when legal contracts are developed in order to determine the terms and agreements between Managed Care Organizations (MCOs), clinical providers and or healthcare professionals, i.e. Primary care physicians (PCPs). A contract is defined as an agreement between private parties creating mutual obligations enforceable by law. The basic elements required for the agreement to be a legally enforceable contract are: mutual assent, expressed by a valid offer and acceptance; adequate consideration; capacity; and legality. (Staff, 2017). These negotiations can have a significant impact on the outcome, functions and delivery of healthcare services, and provisions can directly affect payment, organization, practices and procedures, confidential records and clinical decision making ( Managed Care Contracts Key Provisions for Providers , 2017). Some examples of standard negotiation terms include pre certification requirements, client referrals, patient data provided to the MCO, geographic and demographic limitations and profiles, claim submissions, provider panels and payment procedures. Once all terms have been negotiated, a contract has been created. According to Kongstvedt (2013), a contract should consist of seen components which include: the title, caption, transition, recitals, definitions, closing or testimonium, and appended documents or exhibits. • 7. Princess Diana Eulogy Analysis On August 31, 1997, Princess Diana died in a fatal car crash while in Paris. Her funeral was held on September 6, 1997, at Westminster Abbey in London, England. Thousands of people attended, while many more watched from their homes. A few of her family members spoke great things about her; however, the eulogy her brother wrote shocked the millions that were watching. According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary a eulogy is a commendatory oration or writing especially in honor of one deceased (Merriam Webster Dictionary). This eulogy written for Princess Diana had many factors that set it apart from typical eulogies, but these aspects made it more effective. A typical eulogy consists of praise, happy memories, stories, and positive personality features of the one deceased. In opposition, this particular eulogy had a negative tone regarding the sadness in her life, as well as blaming the royal family and the paparazzi for her untimely passing. This eulogy used aspects that most speeches, essays, and other forms of writing use, including pathos, ethos, logos, parallelism, imagery, and negative comments toward her unfortunate loss of life. Earl used pathos to appeal to the audience s emotions. He used it to draw the audience in, and get their attention by talking about family. An example of pathos from the eulogy is, These were days I will always treasure. It was as if we had been transported back to our childhood when we spent such an enormous amount of time together ... To start with people need to be educated on how things work in the body and when it is a good idea to go see a doctor and get antibiotics. Doctors need to play more attention to their patients and only give antibiotics when needed and need to learn how to prescribe the right amount since approximately 50% of antibiotics are prescribed incorrectly. The government needs to take some action and do some research and pay close attention to health organizations and collect data (Monroe). The government also needs to put restrictions on antibiotics being used in agriculture. Companies that work in the agriculture business need to stop using antibiotics and pesticides and growth hormones and let things grow naturally. Americans are known for being wasteful and fat so why not fix the obesity problem by supplying less, therefore products aren t being wasted, people aren t eating out of proportion and bacteria aren t becoming resistant in that aspect of life. There also needs to be more regulations and laws for those that travel outside of the country to be vaccinated and given a full health exam before they come back into the country. Another way to prevent this for becoming a serious problem, scientist should come up with new antibiotics that don t harm good bacteria and kill all strands of one bacteria. All of these ... This was the second time in the country s history that a direct election was held and a position of power was democratically transferred. As a matter of fact, the country has made progress since 2001, when a United Statesled invasion, with the help of UN, toppled the Talibangovernment. After decades of being ruled mostly under an emirate, monarchy, and dictatorship, Afghanistannow runs under a democracy. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The ripples of the fundamentalist movement s decisions changed the political course of the country since its inception. In September 1996, the Taliban formed a government in the country and ruled it as the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. It thrived in a post Soviet era when the Taliban promised stability and prosperity after years of conflict within the country from other Islamic fighter groups. Unfortunately, the Taliban had religious extremist views that were influenced by their own interpretations of the Sharia or Islamic law. The group committed massacres across the land just to gain control over the country. Soon, the Islamic law was brutally enforced by imprisonment, executions, and amputations for those who disobeyed. Accordingly, the Taliban regime met opposition from other countries and international organizations since the beginning. In fact, only the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia acknowledged the Taliban government. It finally came to the point that the UN Security Council released resolutions in the late 90s regarding the Taliban s human rights violations and their refusal to extradite another Islamic extremist group, Al Qaeda. This sparked a 13 year war in Afghanistan that resulted in the loss of 92,000 people in which 26,000 were civilians, and also displaced hundreds and thousands of lives. • 12. Are Prisons Obsolete, By Angela Davis Prompt 2 First Draft Prison Industrial Complex (PIC) is a term used to describe the overlapping interests of government and industry that use surveillance, policing, and imprisonment as solutions to social, economic, and political problems. Angela Davis is a journalist and American political activist who believes that the U.S practice of super incarceration is closer to new age slavery than any system of criminal justice. She defines the PIC as biased for criminalizing communities of color and used to make profit for corporations from the prisoner s suffering. In her book, Are Prisons Obsolete?, she argues that the prison systems are no longer in use and out of date since prisons just keep increasing as each become more and more populated. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both Luis Valdez and Peter Malae represented the PIC as a social problem of segregating people from different races, meaning that the prisoners would only be surrounded by people of the same race as themselves. In addition, Lis Valdez and Peter Malae also concentrated on representing the PIC as formation of problems occurring from isolating prisoners in their cells without any contact from anyone or anything. One of the differences between the way that Luis Valdez and Peter Malae represent the PIC is that Luis Valdez focuses on the issue of mass media images revolving around Mexicans/Mexican Descents. This issue uses media to keep stereotypes alive of Mexican/Mexican Descents that makes all of them perceived as criminals. Another difference between the way that Peter Malae and Luis Valdez represent the PIC is that Peter Malae focuses on the lack of freedom and surveillance of this system. In this topic, Peter Malae creates a menacing mood for the audience that allows them to feel the feeling of living in jail with the fear of getting punished and tortured while also having to be conscious of his/her actions (lack of freedom) around ... And one time, when Deo could not stand seeing the death of the old and useless cow, Yaruyange, Lonjino bought the cow back and let the cow die peacefully. Lonjino taught Deo how to respect others and respect lives even lives were worthless in Burundi. He also told Deo a lot of stories about diligence, which gave Deo deep impress that people should work hard for gaining their own lives. It is very impressed to Deo, and this faith gave Deo big power to begin his new life in New York. The luck from Deo s father is that he believes in education, which most Burundi people, even Lonjino, not. Lonjino obliged him to go to work tending Lonjino s cows when he was in sixth grade. However, he still believed in education, so he kept Deo in school and even gave him more time to study. It is very meaningful to Deo. The education gives Deo a complete different future, which opens the door to Deo s success. The knowledge let Deo get out of poor and ignorance. This is a key turning point for Deo s ... The Zero Waste Movement is a movement that I actively participate in and deeply value in my life. I certainly did not want to write a magazine about something I had no prior interest in. Not to say that creating a magazine about completely new information wouldn t be interesting in some way, but rather that I was able to really invest myself into the topic I chose because of my close relationship with the topic. Through the creation of Beyond the Mason Jar, I was also able to discover some qualities about the ZWM that I hadn t noticed before. It can be really daunting when you see pictures of waterways overwhelmed by plastic debris in other developing countries or a video of a plastic straw stuck in the nose of a poor sea turtle (that is another story in itself). I think it is vital for the readers to realize that we can only do so much to aid in situations like those. However, I want to show them that the ripples we cast do make a difference. I have found that to be very true in my life. Every time someone tells me they think of me because of some plastic they threw away or something they did to be more sustainable, the fire in my heart grows exponentially. That is the power that I want the reader to realize they have. Next, the couple of advertisements that I included in my magazine are sort of akin to transitions. • 16. How Did The French Revolution Influence Art The French Revolution and the Art it Influenced Liberty, equality, fraternity, or death; the last, much the easiest to bestow, O Guillotine! wrote the famous author Charles Dickens, in his classic book, The Tale of Two Cities. The French Revolution (1789 1796) was a fight for liberty and equality, which ultimately led to the execution of Queen Marie Antoinette and King Louis XVI, by way of guillotine. And, eventually Napoleon Bonaparte became the ruler of France. This was a transforming time in not just France s history, but European history and World history. The people of France were fed up with the monarchy and the burden of high taxes, as the monarch rulers squandered money away while the people faced famine and poverty. The Revolution was so powerful that artists not only painted about it, but they became revolutionaries themselves, like Jacques Louis David, who is famous for his works, Oath of the Horratii, and Napoleon Crossing the Alps. In 1830, the second French Revolution broke out and this was known as the Three Glorious Days , in which the people of France protested Charles X after he imposed ordinances that prevented freedom of the press and increased the power of his monarchy ( French Revolution , n.d.). The famous allegorical painting by Eugene Delacroix, Liberty Leading the People, is a historical depiction of the second French Revolution and illustrates the connection between socioeconomic and political issues, and art. This paper will look at David s Napoleon Crossing the Alps, and Delacroix s Liberty Leading the People and analyze the impact of the French Revolution on art of those periods. Jacques Louis David (1748 1825) was one of the most famous Neoclassist painters, as well as a devout revolutionary in 19th century France. He painted works that some consider propaganda of the time, yet he did so in pure Neoclassical fashion (Pollitt, n.d.). Eventually, he became the personal painter for Napoleon Bonaparte, as he continued to support the revolution through art. In Napoleon Crossing the Alps, we see a diagonal, yet static composition. The diagonal that is created by the horse is reminiscent of Baroque figures, yet it lacks the movement that the Baroque style portrayed so well. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. Importance Of Violent Conflict Is Unethical In some instances, but very few, violent conflict can be considered ethical. Even in these situations, violent conflict is only considered ethical to an extent. Times when violent conflict can be considered ethical are: self defense and revenge. Self defense is only ethical to an extent because at some point it is no longer self defense. Revenge is only ethical when it is absolutely necessary, and and at some point it can no longer be considered ethical because it just turns to violence. One instance where violent conflict can be deemed ethical is a situation where your entire family has been kidnapped and/or killed by someone or a group of people. Another instance would be if an entire country is being attacked by another country, and all or most of its citizens are killed, when there was no true declaration of war. Other than these two possibilities, violent conflict cannot be considered ethical. Violent conflict is considered unethical because of the inhumane trauma it causes to people. An example of traumatic violence would be the bombings of Hiroshimaand Nagasaki, Japan through the use of nuclear weapons. Even though these bombings might have been necessary at the time, does not mean they were an ethical decision. A clear representation of how unethical it is to use nuclear weapons is described in John Hersey s book Hiroshima, specifically in the chapter called The Fire . Hersey describes the horrific view that Mr. Tanimoto had to live through after the bombing. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Of world s three monotheistic religions (that is, the belief that there is only one God), Christianityand Judaismshare the most similarities and differences between the two religions in terms of history, beliefs, and practices. In fact, Christianity wouldn t be originated if Judaism was not because they come from the same foundation. Judaism is one of the oldest world religions, dating its origin back in the 500s 400s BCE. During the time, Abraham followed Godas he promised to make Abraham the father of a great nation. Through Old Testament and promises to Moses, David and the prophets it slowly reveals God s plan. The people of Israel got a law through Moses and fulfillment of the promises become conditional on obedience to the law. The Jewish people, also known as Hebrews at the time were the first to worship one God (the Creator and Ruler), whose name is Yahweh. The most common opening to prayers in Judaism called the Shema, Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is one (Robinson Rodrigues, p. 51), hence are continually retold there is one god, no other. Peter Pan whether as a stage play, a book, a stage musical, a live action film or a pantomime has endured for more than a century as arguably the most famous, and certainly most influential, stories for children. First performed in 1904, the fairytale drama has been addressing the ever changing boundaries between childhood and adulthood ever since. This first production included a number of scenes which were cut from later performances, and the 1908 scene entitled An Afterthought was performed just once during Barrie s lifetime. Published in 1957, it has, since the 1980s, become the standardized ending to the play which we now know. Other alterations to the original script were, according to Nicola J. Watson in her Introduction to Peter Pan (Reader 2, p. 143), down to the actors themselves. She contends there was improvisation, especially during Hook s soliloquy, by the actor Gerald du Maurier, while the notion of Peter as untouchable resulted in the change of actress playing the part. Already we can see the adaptability and elasticity of Peter Pan the 1928 play script is not an accurate record of how the play was initially performed, but rather it is the play which Barrie wanted his audience to see in print. The play text includes a substantial cross over from the 1911 novel Peter and Wendy, and also omits a number of scenes which were initially played, many largely down to improvisation. At the time of the play s performance, during the Edwardian era, it was noted by theatre historian Tracy Davis that Peter Pan was first produced at a transitional moment in stage history , which was characterized by the waning influence of pantomime, the emergence of the Christmas fairy play, and the prevalence of realism in straight drama (EA300 Study Guide, p. 145). Also other countries would want to have more power than the others so they would have a competition that could lead to war. For example, evidence shows in a chart by Richard Overy, in 1999, all the countries were building up their armies and navy and spending lots of money on them. This can cause war because if the other countries saw that another country has a good military they wouldn t want to be unprepared and they start building up their army and then all hell breaks loose. There are many different painters that painted while they began as impressionist. I guess you could say that some of the characteristics that are considered with some of the paintings of Post Impressionism would be that they all have some unique brushstrokes and a bright palette of colors. • 34. Tipping Point Chapter Summary Introduction In The Tipping Point, Gladwell follows trends from their beginning to their end and he tries to figure out why some ideas tip and others do not. Firstly, Gladwell gives the three rules for the tipping point which are: contagiousness, the fact that little causes can have big effects, and transformation happens in one moment. In the introductory chapter of the book, Gladwell uses the syphilis epidemic of Baltimore, along with other outbreaks of disease, to illustrate his three rules. He restates the three rules more simply as the law of few, the stickiness factor and the power of context. Gladwell begins by discussing the incomprehensible recovery of then terminally uncool Hush Puppies shoes amongst a few of hipsters in Manhattan s cutting edge regions in the 1990s, a development which soon extended across the United States and lead to exponential increases in the company s sales. Using this sensation as an introduction to the book s methodical theme, the author states that he will recognize, dissect and give details on the mechanisms by which certain trends occur, while others fail. Chapter 1: The Three Rules of Epidemics Gladwell declares that most trends, styles, and occurrences are natural and spread according to paths of transmission and carriage that are patently similar. For Freud, it s the recognition that the irrational is there, that it must be controlled to take over. Man s aggressive nature does tend to overpower the mind, leading to irrational actions. However, while a male character in Porphyria s lover turns his love toward Porphyria out to be lunatic and psychotic, a male character in To idealizes Jane as an unreachable being and shows his love in a platonic and sublime way. In both poems, female characters are beautiful and attractive, so male characters are captivated by their beauty and hunger for their affection throughout the poem. Furthermore, both male characters have a critical obstacle to achieve their love difference of social status and marriage status. In Browning s poem, male character is from low class while his lover Porphyria is from decent family. In Victorian Era, social class still existed and it determined almost everything, even one s marriage. In addition, women s right was not equally treated as men s at that time, so dominant violence toward women was frequent. In this reason, although the male character excuses he killed his lover in order to keep her love to him forever, it seems that he projects his anger or madness at discrimination caused by social class as he killed his aristocratic lover. On the other hand, in Shelley s poem, the male character, actually Shelley himself, idolizes her lover as a divine figure. In fact, Jane is a married woman, so it might be impossible to accept his love. Thus, as he portrays her as an unreachable being, he might comfort himself her rejection to his love. While male character in Browning s poem chooses a very radical and violent way to keep his love, one in Shelley s poem chooses romantic but somewhat passive way to keep his love. The adoption of such a rule will effectively end the current disunion between the Federal Rules of Evidence and the Maryland Rules of Evidence. As you know, under Maryland Rule 5 404(b), evidence of prior crimes may be admitted to show some special relevance to the issues in the present case in very limited factual scenarios. The evidence may not be used to show that the accused is a bad person but it should be permitted to illustrate (1) the defendant s motive to commit the crime, (2) the defendant s intent to commit the crime, (3) that the defendant engaged in a common scheme or plan to achieve an overarching criminal enterprise, (4) that the defendant was, in fact, the person who committed the crime, (5) and that there was a lack of mistake or accident on the part of the defendant when the crime was committed.
