Gender Countertype In The Media
A stereotype is typically a negative assumption on an individual or social group. They are often
magnified opinions held by a range of people on teenagers, genders, belief and race. The binary
opposite to stereotypes are countertypes , an example of a countertype is that all young female girls
are pleasant and beautiful.
The media has always taught us that women belong in the kitchen, women can t handle a day s
work and that we live in a man s world because we as women, are weak, emotional house wives.
On the other hand, we are taught that men are the brave, stoical, hard working money makers.
Thankfully, due to many equality protests and the suffragette movement there has been a rise in
feminism and women support. Feminism is the process in which women s rights are influenced to
the public to make decisions on the equality of both males and females. The people who support
feminism are known as feminists. Jane Bailey wrote about women on stereotypes within social
media and explains how it is a platform for women to freely express themselves.
Gender stereotyping used to happen more often in the media than it does nowadays, this is for the
reason that in today s society is frowned upon and seen as inappropriate by a mass audience.
Advertising and magazines are a huge impact on people worldwide, so an advertisement featuring a
half naked woman with the headline Are you beach body ready? (2015) would cause an uproar for
many reasons. One of the reasons being that the

The Making of The Notebook The Notebook is known for its heart wrenching love story and

A House Divided Against Itself Analysis
From as far back as 1981, people have been pushing for English as the official language in America.
As much as 87% of the American voting population supports the universal acceptance of English as
the country s de facto language. But mankind is notorious for wanting things that aren t best for
them; the question must be asked: should English truly become the backbone languagefor the U.S.?
Republican lawmaker Steve King states, A nation divided by language cannot pull together as
effectively as a people. (CBS News Brain Montopoli.) King references Abraham Lincoln s speech
( A House Divided against Itself ) and the biblical (Mark 3:25, King James Bible) expression, A

Steve King is not alone in his thinking the Tower of Babel s production was put to an abrupt
conclusion when God intervened and striped the people of their unifying force: language.
Through division of language, mankind was unable to finish the Tower of Babel or reach their
fullest potential. (Genesis 11: 1 9, New James Bible). America s Founding Fathers seem to agree;
David Simpsons writes, Language is seen as a potential element in constituting a political and
cultural unity among the citizens of the new republic; or, if it goes wrong, a means of prescribing
or perpetuating disorder. King further embellishes his thoughts: A common language is the most
powerful unifying force known throughout history. (CBS News Brain Montopoli.) The 100 Years
War, for instance, is a crucial component to English s modern day significance. During this struggle,
French became the Language of the Enemy. English evolved into a substitute, as an avenue for
people to oppress their enemy and aggregate their resilience together. (Wallet; Rosanne E. Lortz)
One language unifies, but multiple languages cause a schism between men. Take Truman s decision
to drop the atomic bombs on Hiroshima; it was

Cathedral Of Chartres Essay
The presence made by the Windows has not gone unnoticed and thanks to Abbot Suger for his
love of stained glass we can continue to rejoice in his vision. Suger noted in his own words,
Thus, when out of my delight in the beauty of the house of God the loveliness of the many
colored gems has called me away from external cares, and worthy meditation has induced me to
reflect, transferring that which is material to that which is immaterial, on the diversity of the
sacred virtues: then it seems to me that I see myself dwelling, as it were, in some strange region of
the universe which neither exists entirely in the slime of the earth nor entirely in the purity of
Heaven; and that, by the grace of God, I can be transported from this inferior... Show more content

The Cathedral of Chartres is located Southwest of Paris in Chartres, France. The Cathedral of
Chartres is considered one of the most exquisite representations of the French Gothic architectural
style. This Cathedral was constructed during 1194 through 1250, yet still contains many of its
original artifacts such as the stained glass art. The North facing Rose Window displays the Old
Testament and is dedicated to the Virgin. These images within the Rose represent Judah and the
twelve Kings and the 12 Prophets. The Cathedrale Norte Dame de Chartres claims, Thus the Old
Testament is portrayed as the support of the New; the four Evangelists ride on the shoulders of
the four Major Prophets: Jeremiah, Isaiah, Ezekiel and Daniel. The North Rose Windows
patrons were members of the royal house of Louis IX. The South Rose Window consists of the
New Testament and is dedicated to Christ. The Windows depict the Apocalypse, Evangelists and
Prophets, while the Mary holds the Christ Child in lancets below. By this point in Medieval
Architecture stained glass has soured to new heights and has taken over the nearly the entire
inside of places of worship. The stained glass in many holy places does not stop with a Rose

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind: From Alexander Pope to Michel Gondry Eternal
Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is a movie that shot by Michel Gondry in 2004. The movie has
science fictional elements, although it is a low budget production. The scenario of the movie is
written by Charlie Kauffman, based on the poem Eloisa to Abelard (1717) by Alexander Pope. In
this essay, I will analyze the movie adaptation of the poem Eloisa to Abelard as Eternal Sunshine of
the Spotless Mind.
Eloisa to Abelard is the poem of Alexander Pope, published in 1717. The poem based on the story
of Heloisa d Argenteuil and her teacher Peter Abelard in the twelfth century. Heloisa comes from...

The most important similarity is that the heroine of the story, Clementine, believes that if she can
forget the memory of her beloved one, she can continue to her life. But this creates the main
difference in the same time. Because rather than the main character of the movie, the foil
character Mary Svevo s choice exemplifies the poem s main character s words better. She
experiences a relationship with the head of the Lacuna Inc. Dr. Mierzwiak and she accepts the
procedure to forget the relationship in order to goes on her life. We hear the important lines of the

Results Oriented Workplace
The Importance of Results Oriented Workplaces in the 21st Century Subject: The Importance of a
Results Oriented Workplace in the 21st Century Over the last 40 years, technology to improve
productivity in the workplace has improved so much that an employee can be reached almost
anywhere at anytime to answer or solve any problem. However, rather than allowing employees to
work less and be truly productive, most workplaces place their value on the 40 hour week rather
than generating results in a timely fashion, on time. The result is more employee burn out, turn
over in the work force and reduced productivity, even with all these time saving technologies. From
the US government to Best Buy, there is a movement to get away from... Show more content on

These results oriented workplaces create environments of healthier, happier workers, which produce
better work, on time. This paradigm shift of working smarter rather than punching a clock will
eventually take over business, though there is significant resistance in numerous workplaces.
Human resource departments are embracing this practice, as are visionary executives, and business
managers, making it very important to the next generation of business people to understand the
rules and frameworks that will result in greater productivity, and keep their employees healthier,
happier, and more productive. In an interview with David Hunnicutt, he cited the 7 benchmarks
from the Welcoa model for a results oriented workplace: attracting senior level support, creating
cohesive wellness teams, using data to drive health efforts, crafting an operating plan, choosing
appropriate interventions, creating supportive environments, and consistently evaluating
outcomes.1 We will discuss each of there benchmarks in detail. The results oriented workplace has
numerous benefits, both for the organization as well as for the individual employees. These include
an empowered population, striving to develop more efficient means to complete any task. This
results in greater profits for the company, resulting in hopefully more business. The first of the
benchmarks that Hunnicutt mentions is attaining the support of the senior leadership of your
organization. This is

Canada s Immigration Act And System
Each year lots of new migrants enter the Canadian economy therefore Canada has been classified
as a multi cultural country, and due to this our citizens are more socially and globally aware of
what is going on around them. Canada s immigration Act and system helps our country be more
culturally diverse, it increases economic growth, and make s Canada a safer place to be which we
can call our home. Along with new migrants coming every year, therefore ethnic communities are
massively increasing by population and size.
The Tamil community is a relatively new group. Some Tamils settled in Canada as early as the
1960s, coming as independent immigrants. The vast majority, however, arrived in Canada after
1983 in the aftermath of the 1983 Colombo riots in Sri Lanka. In 1983, the Canadian government
took Tamils into Canada under humanitarian and compassionate consideration. At the same time, a
visa requirement was imposed on Sri Lankans, making it very difficult to get here legally. In 1986,
Minister s permits were granted to some refugees allowing them to remain in Canada. Today
Tamils continue to make up one of the largest group of refugees seeking asylum in Canada. Ten
percent of the persons seeking asylum in Canada in 1999 originated from Sri Lanka. The majority
of population has made Toronto its new home with figures as high as 200,000+, of which the
population has been divided into suburban areas that consist of City of Toronto (Scarborough

Title of Article:
The title of the article Attitudes of Respiratory Therapists and Nurses About Measures to Prevent
Ventilator Associated Pneumonia: A Multicenter, Cross Sectional Survey Study clearly identifies
the purpose of the study. It clearly identifies the dependent variable as Ventilator Associated
Pneumonia (VAP) rate, the independent variable of staff compliance to prevention measures, and
the population of Respiratory Therapists (RTs) and Registered Nurses (RNs).
Objective:
The authors clearly state the objective is to understand reported practices and adherences to
evidenced based guidelines by RTs and RNs. The methods mentioned are; multicenter, cross
sectioned survey, non identifiable geographic information, and questions concerning practices to
prevent VAP based on evidence supported guidelines. The authors report three major findings;
participants frequently practiced VAP prevention measures, the rate of adherence to ineffective
measures is relatively high, and a substantial portion did not know the VAP rate for their
institutions. The authors concluded consumers, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and
other organization s efforts to implement mandatory reporting of hospital infections, including VAP,
the need for a VAP definition suitable for individual organizations, a need for a

The nitrogen in ammonia makes many people think that it...
The nitrogen in ammonia makes many people think that it can double as fertilizer and promote
plant growth. However, using household ammonia, which is present in many cleansers, can do
more harm than good. Learning the ins and outs of this chemical and its effect on plant growth
might make you think twice about using it.
Ammonia and Plants
Ammonia is presents in soil, water and air, and is an important source of nitrogen to plants.
Nitrogen promotes plant growth and improves fruits and seed production, resulting in a greater
yield. It s also essential to photosynthesis, which is the process where plants convert light energy
into chemical energy. The ammonia that s present in many household cleanser is diluted in water

It slowed down and stunted the growth of the plants, dried out the soil and eventually killed them.
(See References 5) In addition to this, ammonia affects plants in that it discolors and burns their
roots. (See References 4)
Risk of Ammonia Injury
Ammonia is most likely to injure plants if you don t known what you re doing. Using ammonia
is especially risky if you re unaware of the pH of the soil and water that you re using, and if you
don t know the exact concentration of ammonia that you re applying. Concentrations as low as
3.5 parts per million are toxic to seedlings. (See References 2, p. 25) Also, according to the
University of California, applying ammonia too close to the plant and not deep enough can also
result in plant injury. (See References 4) You might be better off and more successful when using a
commercial fertilizer to promote plant growth.

Understanding The Unconscious Meanings Behind Individuals
Introduction Individuals belong in a lot of different groups and settings in their lives and their
ability to function well within these settings it is important for their wellbeing but also for the
growth of the organisation itself. As potential therapists who are going to work with people
within organisations it is important to understand the unconscious meanings behind individuals
behaviours and the mechanisms that individuals and organisations use to deal with their
anxieties. As humans and organisations use similar ways to defend themselves from similar
anxieties, in this Essay I will describe some of these ways. I will first talk about what anxiety is
from a psychoanalytic perspective and then I will talk about the defensive mechanism of
projection as it is a mechanism that occur in the ways that individuals deal with anxiety but is
also a mechanism that groups use to deal with their anxieties in the organisations. To make
projection clearer I will give an example from own personal life. I will continue by describing
defences that occur in social systems and I will do that by using the Bion s social defences
against anxiety. I will move on to describe Melanie s Klein concepts of persecutory anxiety and
depressive anxiety as they are concepts that relate to Jaque s social defence system which is a
concept that describes how individuals use organisations deal with their anxieties. I will attempt to
make these theories clearer by giving an example from my own

Persuasive Essay On Sea Turtles
Sea turtles are becoming extinct on the Florida Gulf Coast. Sea turtles are dying because of
humanitarian problems, including garbage, plastics, lights and beach activities. Turtles are very
important to the ecosystem, because they monitor the sea grass, which they eat to make sure it
doesn t over grow. Sea grass provides shelter with many different species of marine life and
provides food for some (including turtles). Without seagrass the whole ecosystem would be out of
sorts. There aren t many counterclaims for this topic, it s usually people don t realize that turtles are
very important to the ecosystem and they just don t care. Turtles are very important to the

This system also, teaches children about recycling, and about marine debris. This solution would be
carried out by fundraising to get money to start the organization, keep fundraising throughout and
getting sponsors. The benefits of this solution is that children would learn about the marine life
and debris when they are very young and hopefully remember and grow up with the fact that
because of our waste many animals are perishing. Most children remember things they were taught
very young like, raise your hand, don t talk when the teacher is talking although many kids in
middle school and high school, don t do this, they know they are suppose to. By teaching children
about recycling and the ocean/environment very young it will stick with them throughout their
lives. There aren t many counterclaims in this problem. One of the counterclaim is that no one
wants to feel responsible for or to take ownership of pollutant. The other counterclaim is that many
don t know about the turtle problem, so they don t care. My proposal is worth supporting because
it solves multiple problems. It doesn t just solve the problem about the sea turtles, but also it solves
all the marine life problems and the pollutant affecting

Language And Culture In Ken Wiwa s Get Beyond Babel
Ken Wiwa presents several ideas pertaining to language and culture within his essay, Get Beyond
Babel. Wiwa explains that every language has a chance of dying out over time. For any language
to survive through years of societal changes, it must be adapted so it can be used to embrace other
cultures, new technology and new perspectives. Wiwa presents the concept that language is the
same as culture. I do not agree with this concept because I believe that culture is carried by the
people, not by the language.
Wiwa uses the idea that languages never die if they are always taking concepts from other
languages. My parents mother tongue is a prime example of countering the statement. My parents
were both born in Sri Lanka and spoke Tamil as they grew up, which is a language that has been
around for over 2000 years. It is a language that was primarily used in South Asia, but has grown.
The language of Tamil did not always have to adopt terms from other languages to expand. Over
100 million people today continue to speak the language. As a language, Anglo Saxon, or Old
English, was very different from modern English, similarly to Tamil. However, Tamil is a
language that has been able to thrive on its own. Tamil counters Wiwa s idea that languages absorb
other dialects to survive. In fact, in South Asia, it is the other way around and dialects in Sri Lanka
must adopt the Tamil languageto stay relevant. The language of Tamil did not become extinct or
endangered because of the

Raphaels Bible Vs. Michelangelo s Sistine Chapel
Raphael s Bible compared to Michelangelo s Sistine Chapel
Arguing that Raphael s Bible was meant to physically and theoretically fill a spare gap in the
Vatican s representation of the bible requires deepening our appreciation of the Sistine Chapel.
Indeed, one could think that there is no big difference between these two masterpieces since
Michelangelo also depicts the Old Testament: nevertheless, it is by looking at the choice of scenes
and stories represented in both stories that the differences emerge. In Raphael s Bible, the artist
voluntary chose to avoid the violent and degrading scenes of the Old Testament: the drunkenness of
Noah (see fig. 10) the mockery of his own son, his daughters sleeping with him, that were on the

The Great Leaders Of Pericles And Constantine
A Long Time Ago
Two thousand four hundred and forty five years ago, a man stands up. The air is thick with
tension as the whole crowd watches. The whole year was spent at war, and now many citizens
lay on the ground, with faces of terror. It is tradition to do this; tradition to stand up after a year
of war to speak about the dead, and has been established for many years. Seven hundred and forty
three years later, a man is sleeping. Tomorrow is another long day of war. Then, he sees something
else. A cross with the top of its head bent round. He stares in awe at the sign, then begins to think
about it. This all happened a long time ago. Today, the two people mentioned are remembered as
two great leaders that lived before, in the ancient world. Throughout history, they changed the lives
of many, and affected many others during their rule. Pericles and Constantine were examples of
great leaders in the ancient world. Under their rule, changes were made. Both led armies into battles
against others. However, they both had a different style of leading and gave different effects on
their citizens. Although they are both respected leaders, they affected different aspects of their
civilizations. Pericles greatly improved the arts and literature of Athens, whereas Constantine
enacted administrative, financial, social and military reforms to the Roman Empire, as well as
decreed tolerance for Christianity within the empire. However, among all the leaders of the Archaic
Period,

The Rise Of The Chinese Revolution
Let her sleep, for when she wakes she will shake the world. This statement was once said by
Napoleon Bonaparte, a French military and political leader, indicating that China was a resting
giant. During the past decades, China had lacked development on some aspects such as governance
and it seemed that its movement were backwards. Corruptions, injustices, lack of efficiency and
productivity; these are the objects and reasons that hindered Chinafrom growing and being united.
There had been an abundant number of revolts, wars and uprisings that took place in China during
its revolution years and the product of these can be classified as positive or negative outcome
depending on one s point of view. The Chinese revolutionaries made a gigantic impact on their
history and they have proven that the power of the people is stronger than the people in power. This
paper presents an overview of the circumstances after the revolution took place, the abolishment of
the imperial China, the rise of the Republic and the conflict between the Nationalist and Communist
Party.
The main discussion of the topics will be started by a brief discussion during the late Qing dynasty.
The revolutionaries, led by Sun Yatsen and Huang xing revolted against the Qing due to the
endless corruption and its efficiency as an empire. One of the uprising was the Wuchang Uprising,
it took place on 10 October 1911 in Hubei province. The southern provinces subsequently declared

Douglas s Learning To Read And Write By Frederick Douglass
All humans are created equally and are born with free will. Every person has the natural right to
be the author of their life, meaning that they can make their own choices and pursue their
dreams. Nevertheless, humans bent nature to their will by adopting slavery, a practice in which
humans are owned and are brutally forced to work. In the excerpt Learning to Read and Write,
Frederick Douglass masters the literacy skills he needed to fulfill his role as an abolitionist,
bringing an end to slavery (Douglass 100). Throughout his piece, he addressed many important
concepts such as that reading is power but also a curse (Douglass 100). His main objective was to

society because of the choice he made (Douglass 101 102). For example, according to the

reply with That make me smart . He shouldn t have said that. He should be a good example for
the citizen. He shouldn t do anything that is against the law and doing something that is against
the law will make you smart. Hilary stated that he also labeled pregnancy an inconvenience to
businessmen and employers. Pregnancy is not inconvenience. It s natural thing that happened to
women and everyone should respect that. It shouldn t be labeled as inconvenience. Overall, I
think Hillary was more prepared for the debate than Trump was. He was angry at times and didn
t seem to be Professional. They both are more about blaming each other than focusing on
important issues but Hillery points were more clear and she seem to be a better candidate for our

Hiroshima, By Robert Lewis, Co Pilot Of Enola Gay
Just how many Japs did we kill? I honestly have the feeling or groping for words to explain this or
I might say my God, what have we done? written by Captain Robert Lewis, co pilot of Enola Gay
over Hiroshima, Japan, presently after 8:15 a.m. on August 6, 1945. The too large gust of wind,
and the looming mushroom cloud rising over the blackened city were all vaguely mentioned in
his captain s log. A small sketch of the first ever nuclear warfare attack can be found hastily
scribbled on the back of Lewis s log that was later stowed away, the sight destined to plague his
mind in the years to follow. Captain Lewis account of Hiroshima is only one of thousands who

Many United States governmental personnel were aware that victory was assured at this point.
According to General Henry Hap Arnold, Army Air Forces commander, as stated in his 1949
Global Mission, It always appeared to us that atomic bomb or no atomic bomb the Japanese were
already on the verge of collapse (Weber.) Though Japan was the first to attack the United States
that did not mean the war would follow in their favor. When the ending months of World War II
came around it had become clear which country had the greater advantage, and whom ultimately
stood on top. The resources available, damage taken, and military readiness deciding that the
United States had already won. The truth being that Japan had already lost months before
Hiroshima was attacked. The Japanese military had no way to make a comeback, and using a
nuclear weapon when this was so obviously clear is undeniably unwarranted. Due to Japan s
dwindling position in the war, turning the tides stood nearly impossible; nonetheless they
remained loyal to their Emperor in never giving up. Japanese soldiers believe that death came
before betraying their country. However, several powerful Japanese military personnel had
realized that to preserve Japan itself, surrendering was a small price to pay over annilliation. After
the Hiroshima attack on August 19, 1945, an article was published on the front page of Chicago

J Crew Swot Analysis
J Crew is a high end clothing store located in the fashion mall off of Keystone and 86 Street in
Indianapolis. The exact address is: 8702 Keystone Crossing, Indianapolis, IN 46240. The
Fashion Mall in general is considered high end and very upscale. J Crew is known for its preppy
style and high quality. The store I have chosen to compare J Crew to is Old Navy in Clay
Terrace, an outdoor shopping center in Carmel, Indiana. The exact address for this clothing
store is: 14250 Clay Terrace Blvd, Suite180, Carmel, IN 46032. Clay Terrace is a very nice
outdoor shopping center it is not like an outlet mall in that it is much more high end. Old Navy
is known for its bargain prices and being able to keep up with modern day fashion with those
bargain prices. When you walk into J Crew you immediately get a classy feel. The tables and
shelving of the store are made of a deep and beautiful wood outlined with thick vibrant metals.
The flooring is wood and the clothing set up is rich with color and style to draw you into the
atmosphere. Once you have entered the miraculous store the team members immediately greet
you with a warm welcome and a willingness to help in anyway possible. The architecture is very
classic with a modern twist to bring in all different types of people. The store is very well lit but...

War Poems
War is a time of violence, protest, death and pain for many people around the world. With this
conflict, a lot of poetry is written because poetry is one of the most common ways for people to
put across their feelings about situations. War is one of these situations for which many people have
very strong feelings.
A common theme in war poetry is the transformation that war brings about in a person. Many
poems reveal boys going into war and becoming young men after the experience. Another dominant
theme in war poems is about the forgotten soldiers who lost their lives and weren t remembered.
Many poems have been written about war and the feelings evoked by war. Even though a lot of
war poetry was written before World War 1, the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However Gibson uses his words well and there are some smart lines throughout the poem. The
rhyming is very simple and the final word in each line rhymes with the other final word in each
two lined stanza. The simple nature of the rhythm in the poem gives it a gentle flow which is very
appropriate for the subject matter.
The poet s ability to use basic words, structure and rhythm appropriately enables him to create a
smart and crisp poem. The simplicity of the poem allows the readers to recognize the serious
subject matter of the poem, which is war.
This next poem was written by me. I got the inspiration for this poem after reading a number of
other war poems and remembering all the people who lost their lives at war. It is called Young lives
lost
The eerie night was torn
By the blistering light of dawn
Many soldiers, many very young,
Their first time holding a gun.
Some no more than 16 years
Bravely holding back the burning tears
Youth s ignorance had been lost
The line of no return was crossed
War had turned these boys to men
Many would never see home again
And unless the senseless killing is ceased
The departed souls will never rest in peace.
My poem is written in a similar style to Gibsons poem. I followed the same rhyming patterns, and
used a simple structure, however my poem uses some slightly more complicated words. The general
theme is the same, but

Longitudinal Design Disadvantages
Longitudinal design:
Definition: In longitudinal design, participants are studied repeatedly, and changes are noted as
they get older (Berk 35). It is one of the observational and correlational study which repeatedly

not make any change in environment.
Types of Longitudinal Study;
1 Panel Study; collecting samples from the sample subjects.
2 Cohort Study; Selecting a group of individuals based on a specific variable, for example, specific
geographical location, birth year or historical experiences.

With this observational study design we can compare the variables from difference group of

Advantages:
1 In this type we can compare several variable between different groups of population at a given

2 Cross sectional research does not provide evidence about development at the level at which it
actually occurs, (Berk 37).
3 Such studies, especially those that cover a wide age span, have another problem. Like
longitudinal research, they can be threatened by cohort effects. (Berk 37)

Making My Fashion Dreams Become A Reality
Growing up surrounded by historical landmarks, creative arts, and Southern charm, I have always
been an admirer of fashion and beauty. When I was a young child of five years, I would
continually play dress up and dream of becoming a Fashionista that assists movie stars and social
elite for their red carpet appearances. I wanted to contribute to others in seeing the beauty in
themselves and the world around them. After about eighteen years, nothing has really changed
within my mind set. Today, I still dream of working in the fashionindustry, but more importantly,
making a difference in the world. In the process of making my fashion dreams become a reality, at
seventeen, I secured enrollment at Northeast MississippiCommunity College majoring in fashion
merchandising. My first two years at junior college were wonderful, and I thoroughly enjoyed
participating in the arts, being the Captain of the Tiger Dancers and Pom Squad, playing as a
member of the tennis team, and supporting Prentiss county as Miss Hospitality 2013. These years
taught me time management like no other while also leading me down the path of self expression
and competitiveness. Finding immense knowledge and encouragement from professors in little
classrooms and civilians in a small Mississippi town perfected my willingness to strive to do my
utmost best in every circumstance, whether it be reaching my goals or helping others. Attending

Essay on The Downfall of Sparta
The history of Sparta was the great exception to the political evolution of the city states. Despite
the fact that Spartans in the end were all Greek, Sparta failed to ever move in the direction of
democratic rule. Instead, its government evolved into something more closely resembling a
modern day dictatorship. If the Spartans had followed the other Greek city states in their political
practices they might have been able to avoid their own downfall and could have even become
stronger.
Spartans were originally Dorians who had come to Laconia as an invading army. Although by the
end of the ninth century they had conquered all of Laconia but still were not satisfied. West of the

The Spartan Constitution called for a government to preserve the old system of the Dark ages.
Although instead of having just one king, they had two, both from predominant families. Spartan
kings enjoyed little of the power handed to them, and were commonly just military and priestly
figureheads. The next branch of government is the council containing twenty eight nobles all over
the age of sixty. This group supervises administration and served as the highest court for criminal
trials. The third body of government, the assembly, is made up of every male Spartan citizen. The
assembly has the power to deny council proposals and elect officials. But the most important and

Motor Vehicle Crisis Insurance
Introduction
Everything is unsure in our life. We don t know what will be there in the future. We all are taking

The Year Round Schooling System Essay
The traditional school calendar used by most schools in the United States stems from the original
agrarian calendar as students were often called to tend to crops in the summer. This was
thoughtfully and effectively designed for the time period it was created in; however, schools,
research, and society have dramatically changed since then. The agrarian calendar no longer makes
sense, as we consider overcrowding in schools and the significant research regarding the summer
brain drain. There are several models of year round schooling that would better serve all
stakeholders in most communities across the nation.
Position and Rationale American students do not need more time in school, but do need access to
more rigorous, engaging instruction, as well as a calendar that removes the excessive break
schedule (summers) and promotes healthy, regular breaks throughout the year, such as the single
track year round schooling system. Year round educationincludes the possibility of three different
formats: single track, multi track, and the extended school year. Rodgers (1993) reports that the
United States has the shortest school year of (180 days) of any industrialized nation. She
encourages school districts to analyze other models of year round education as a method of
boosting student achievement. Rodgers, like Dessoff, shares the benefits and the disadvantages of
each format. According to Dessoff (2011), single track is the most popular year round format, as it

Residential Mobility
While the above test results demonstrate a strong negative relationship between geographic
mobility and female households with no husband present, thus rejecting the null hypothesis that
there is no relationship, one is not to assume this is a reliable reflection of the relationship between
single motherhood and residential mobility. As the results show, only approximately 17 percent of
the variability in geographic mobility of a state can be explained by female households with no
husband present (r2= .166). An increase in the percent of female householders with no husband

Moreover, in order to achieve a more complete picture of housing stability for single mothers, an
examination of residential mobility would only be one of many factors to consider. Number of
moves only accounts for one dimension of housing stability, which is a highly complex concept
(Chwalek 956). Since there is no universally applied definition for studying it across disciplines,
housing stability must be conceptualized for each study, and any approach would have to be
multivariate and on a continuum to provide insight on the various levels of stability within the
broad category of housing (965). (965). Other variables to consider outside of residential mobility,
as tested in many of the studies in the earlier review of literature, include living conditions, the type
of housing, tenure of living situations, history of housing, household income, employment and
education status, accessible support structures, number of children, belief in stability, receipt of
housing subsidies, drug abuse, whether it was a forced displacement (e.g. eviction), and many
more. While it would be very time consuming and complicated to account for all of these variables,
they are all required to examine the full scope of housing stability and whether there is a
relationship with single motherhood. Another option is the narrow the variables to match what
exactly is trying to be studied, and proceed that

This need for transcendentality is real and strong, especially in the two novels The Call of the

thought and spiritual experience is more important than everyday experiences and material

insight of each character s deepest struggle within the camp. There are many themes evident
within the episodes, Seeing is believing, Curley, Private Bill and Pacifying the angels. Some of
which include power and atrocities of war. These themes are also apparent throughout Edward

atrocity of war the Japanese commander just performed on Lofty Morgan. Similarly this theme
is articulated within the episode Pacifying the angles . Within this episode, the Japanese men
lose control after their defeat in the war, therefore resulting in their anger being released through
a massacre on the POW s. The technique of a bird s eye view is used to illustrate the atrocity of
war the Japanese people performed on the POW s. The theme of the atrocities of war is also
performed within Edward Zwick s 2006 film blood diamond . Within a specific scene the R.U.F is

In the handmaid s tale the government has given the lead character and presumably all the other
character a pill that makes them forget their past. In the case of the main character its
effectiveness was not 100 percent and she remembers scraps of her previous life n her dreams. In
her dreams she remember s how they took her daughter away and how she loves her husband.
Offred has no clue to his whereabouts or even if he s alive.
The agents of control in offreds life start with the aunts in training the handmaid s. the role is to
mold the handmaid s into their society, to make them presume that everything is the norm and not
to desire more. Secondly is the eye. They are the thought in the backs of peoples minds that makes
them follow the rules. No one knows quite who they are and can never be sure who to trust. This is
the perfect way to control people without a constant presence.
I think Gilead is thought of as a theocracy it is a government in which there is no separation

Peter Singer Essay
Peter Singer, an Australian philosopher and professor at Princeton University asks his students
the simple question of whether they would save a drowning child from a pond, while wearing they
re bran new pair of expensive shoes. The response was aggressive and passive How could anyone
consider a pair of shoes, or missing an hour or two at work, a good reason for not saving a child s
life? В№ Singer continued to argue that according to UNICEF, nearly 10 million children under
five years old die each year from causes related to poverty. ВІ Is not saving a child drowning in a
pond right in front of you the same thing as a child half way across the worlddying in poverty? Peter

We each have a right to buy anything we would like with our own money. Whether that right is a
good decision how ever is something we must stop and question. You may have a right to spend
your weekend surfing, but it can still be true that you ought to visit your sick mother. Someone
with all the money in the world could buy a new car every day, throw lavish parties, go on
vacation once a month on a new jet plane and even throw tons of money into a lake, they have the
right to do so with they re money! How ever coud this incredibly rich person choose to do other
things with their money? To choose to do these things rather than use the money to save human
lives is wrong. вЃµ Singer insist that we should use our money wisely. In Singer s last argument
he states a blunt and simple responce to Lucy s opinion on giving. My aim is to convince you,
the individual reader that you can and should be doing a lot more to help the poor. By having
the right to controle your own money and because we were fortunate enough to live in such
great economical conditions, we should work harder to help others that will never have the same
chances. Lucy from Glennview High and Peter Singer make strong points on each side of the
fence. I am all for Lucy s opinion in the sense that if a person works hard in life to earn their
money, they have the right to spend it on themselves. I for one go to school full

  • 2. Gender Countertype In The Media A stereotype is typically a negative assumption on an individual or social group. They are often magnified opinions held by a range of people on teenagers, genders, belief and race. The binary opposite to stereotypes are countertypes , an example of a countertype is that all young female girls are pleasant and beautiful. The media has always taught us that women belong in the kitchen, women can t handle a day s work and that we live in a man s world because we as women, are weak, emotional house wives. On the other hand, we are taught that men are the brave, stoical, hard working money makers. Thankfully, due to many equality protests and the suffragette movement there has been a rise in feminism and women support. Feminism is the process in which women s rights are influenced to the public to make decisions on the equality of both males and females. The people who support feminism are known as feminists. Jane Bailey wrote about women on stereotypes within social media and explains how it is a platform for women to freely express themselves. Gender stereotyping used to happen more often in the media than it does nowadays, this is for the reason that in today s society is frowned upon and seen as inappropriate by a mass audience. Advertising and magazines are a huge impact on people worldwide, so an advertisement featuring a half naked woman with the headline Are you beach body ready? (2015) would cause an uproar for many reasons. One of the reasons being that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. A House Divided Against Itself Analysis From as far back as 1981, people have been pushing for English as the official language in America. As much as 87% of the American voting population supports the universal acceptance of English as the country s de facto language. But mankind is notorious for wanting things that aren t best for them; the question must be asked: should English truly become the backbone languagefor the U.S.? Republican lawmaker Steve King states, A nation divided by language cannot pull together as effectively as a people. (CBS News Brain Montopoli.) King references Abraham Lincoln s speech ( A House Divided against Itself ) and the biblical (Mark 3:25, King James Bible) expression, A house divided against itself is a house that cannot stand, in order ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Steve King is not alone in his thinking the Tower of Babel s production was put to an abrupt conclusion when God intervened and striped the people of their unifying force: language. Through division of language, mankind was unable to finish the Tower of Babel or reach their fullest potential. (Genesis 11: 1 9, New James Bible). America s Founding Fathers seem to agree; David Simpsons writes, Language is seen as a potential element in constituting a political and cultural unity among the citizens of the new republic; or, if it goes wrong, a means of prescribing or perpetuating disorder. King further embellishes his thoughts: A common language is the most powerful unifying force known throughout history. (CBS News Brain Montopoli.) The 100 Years War, for instance, is a crucial component to English s modern day significance. During this struggle, French became the Language of the Enemy. Suger noted in his own words, Thus, when out of my delight in the beauty of the house of God the loveliness of the many colored gems has called me away from external cares, and worthy meditation has induced me to reflect, transferring that which is material to that which is immaterial, on the diversity of the sacred virtues: then it seems to me that I see myself dwelling, as it were, in some strange region of the universe which neither exists entirely in the slime of the earth nor entirely in the purity of Heaven; and that, by the grace of God, I can be transported from this inferior... The Cathedral of Chartres is considered one of the most exquisite representations of the French Gothic architectural style. This Cathedral was constructed during 1194 through 1250, yet still contains many of its original artifacts such as the stained glass art. The North facing Rose Window displays the Old Testament and is dedicated to the Virgin. These images within the Rose represent Judah and the twelve Kings and the 12 Prophets. The Cathedrale Norte Dame de Chartres claims, Thus the Old Testament is portrayed as the support of the New; the four Evangelists ride on the shoulders of the four Major Prophets: Jeremiah, Isaiah, Ezekiel and Daniel. However, rather than allowing employees to work less and be truly productive, most workplaces place their value on the 40 hour week rather than generating results in a timely fashion, on time. In an interview with David Hunnicutt, he cited the 7 benchmarks from the Welcoa model for a results oriented workplace: attracting senior level support, creating cohesive wellness teams, using data to drive health efforts, crafting an operating plan, choosing appropriate interventions, creating supportive environments, and consistently evaluating outcomes.1 We will discuss each of there benchmarks in detail. The results oriented workplace has numerous benefits, both for the organization as well as for the individual employees. As potential therapists who are going to work with people within organisations it is important to understand the unconscious meanings behind individuals behaviours and the mechanisms that individuals and organisations use to deal with their anxieties. As humans and organisations use similar ways to defend themselves from similar anxieties, in this Essay I will describe some of these ways. I will first talk about what anxiety is from a psychoanalytic perspective and then I will talk about the defensive mechanism of projection as it is a mechanism that occur in the ways that individuals deal with anxiety but is also a mechanism that groups use to deal with their anxieties in the organisations. To make projection clearer I will give an example from own personal life. • 13. Language And Culture In Ken Wiwa s Get Beyond Babel Ken Wiwa presents several ideas pertaining to language and culture within his essay, Get Beyond Babel. Wiwa explains that every language has a chance of dying out over time. For any language to survive through years of societal changes, it must be adapted so it can be used to embrace other cultures, new technology and new perspectives. Wiwa presents the concept that language is the same as culture. I do not agree with this concept because I believe that culture is carried by the people, not by the language. Wiwa uses the idea that languages never die if they are always taking concepts from other languages. My parents mother tongue is a prime example of countering the statement. My parents were both born in Sri Lanka and spoke Tamil as they grew up, which is a language that has been around for over 2000 years. It is a language that was primarily used in South Asia, but has grown. The language of Tamil did not always have to adopt terms from other languages to expand. Over 100 million people today continue to speak the language. As a language, Anglo Saxon, or Old English, was very different from modern English, similarly to Tamil. However, Tamil is a language that has been able to thrive on its own. Tamil counters Wiwa s idea that languages absorb other dialects to survive. The whole year was spent at war, and now many citizens lay on the ground, with faces of terror. It is tradition to do this; tradition to stand up after a year of war to speak about the dead, and has been established for many years. Seven hundred and forty three years later, a man is sleeping. Tomorrow is another long day of war. Then, he sees something else. A cross with the top of its head bent round. He stares in awe at the sign, then begins to think about it. This all happened a long time ago. Today, the two people mentioned are remembered as two great leaders that lived before, in the ancient world. Throughout history, they changed the lives of many, and affected many others during their rule. Pericles and Constantine were examples of great leaders in the ancient world. Under their rule, changes were made. Both led armies into battles against others. However, they both had a different style of leading and gave different effects on their citizens. Although they are both respected leaders, they affected different aspects of their civilizations. Pericles greatly improved the arts and literature of Athens, whereas Constantine enacted administrative, financial, social and military reforms to the Roman Empire, as well as decreed tolerance for Christianity within the empire. When I was a young child of five years, I would continually play dress up and dream of becoming a Fashionista that assists movie stars and social elite for their red carpet appearances. I wanted to contribute to others in seeing the beauty in themselves and the world around them. After about eighteen years, nothing has really changed within my mind set. Despite the fact that Spartans in the end were all Greek, Sparta failed to ever move in the direction of democratic rule. Instead, its government evolved into something more closely resembling a modern day dictatorship. If the Spartans had followed the other Greek city states in their political practices they might have been able to avoid their own downfall and could have even become stronger. The Spartan Constitution called for a government to preserve the old system of the Dark ages. Although instead of having just one king, they had two, both from predominant families. Spartan kings enjoyed little of the power handed to them, and were commonly just military and priestly figureheads. The next branch of government is the council containing twenty eight nobles all over the age of sixty. This group supervises administration and served as the highest court for criminal trials. The third body of government, the assembly, is made up of every male Spartan citizen. The assembly has the power to deny council proposals and elect officials. But the most important and powerful branch of government is the ephorate. The ephorate s basically were the government; they had the power to veto any legislation, controlled the education system, and could depose the kings if a religious omen were to appear. • 33. The Year Round Schooling System Essay The traditional school calendar used by most schools in the United States stems from the original agrarian calendar as students were often called to tend to crops in the summer. This was thoughtfully and effectively designed for the time period it was created in; however, schools, research, and society have dramatically changed since then. The agrarian calendar no longer makes sense, as we consider overcrowding in schools and the significant research regarding the summer brain drain. There are several models of year round schooling that would better serve all stakeholders in most communities across the nation. Position and Rationale American students do not need more time in school, but do need access to more rigorous, engaging instruction, as well as a calendar that removes the excessive break schedule (summers) and promotes healthy, regular breaks throughout the year, such as the single track year round schooling system. Year round educationincludes the possibility of three different formats: single track, multi track, and the extended school year. Moreover, in order to achieve a more complete picture of housing stability for single mothers, an examination of residential mobility would only be one of many factors to consider. Number of moves only accounts for one dimension of housing stability, which is a highly complex concept (Chwalek 956). Since there is no universally applied definition for studying it across disciplines, housing stability must be conceptualized for each study, and any approach would have to be multivariate and on a continuum to provide insight on the various levels of stability within the broad category of housing (965).
