D4-312 is a Home Network Performance Management
1. Introduction This proposal presents first the significant parameters to assess the performance of D4
312 or home network performance management, the principle of the assessment procedure and the
equipment necessary to carry out a measuring campaign. In network such as at home or small office
with only a few devices connects to a single modem or router in a single location and topology,
network administration with easily can inspect devices and check for differences. However, as the
number of computer and handheld devices increases, especially in growing technology and networks
with hundreds or thousands of devices, manual device monitoring becomes increasingly difficult with
the different type of network such as WAN and LAN. Monitoring ... Show more content on

The scope for network performance verification is required from the fact that the network supports of
guaranteed performance. In the case of a network providing connections without a guaranteed
performance, the scope for network performance verification and performance management in general
is limited to performance monitoring. The scope of this paper is as follows Visualize your network to
quickly identify bottlenecks Identify impending faults Monitor WAN link availability and
performance Measure network bandwidth and traffic utilization Analyze traffic usage patterns
Automate network change and configuration management Troubleshoot VoIP Quality of Service 5.
Method There are as many method of measuring network performance as there are equipment
vendors. This paper proposes a framework that simplifies the process of network performance
verification and provides a concise view of performance that is aligned with user experience. 5.1)

The Possibility Of Integrating Critical Thinking For...
Chapter Two: Investigating the Possibility of Integrating Critical Thinking in English Language
Teaching Introduction Montaigne views that saying is one thing; doing is another thing (qtd. in
Robson 191). This insinuates that what one says might be different from what s/he does, hence the
necessity when enquiring about the possibility of integrating critical thinking in English Language
Teaching. This chapter is devoted to the investigation of the hypothesis of the study, whether critical
thinking could be incorporated in English Language Teaching. This chapter is undertaken with this
spirit, we will start our investigation by introducing the population of the study. Then, we describe,
analyze and interpret the questionnaires results. It will help us confirm or disconfirm our hypotheses
about possible correlation between critical thinking and language teaching. We provide two sections,
first, we deal with the students questionnaire followed by its analysis, and then, we will move to do
the same with teachers questionnaire. 2.1. Methodology 2.1.1. Hypothesis It is worth to reiterate our
research hypothesis: Incorporating the teaching of critical thinking skills may enhance EFL students
mastery of the field, and raise their awareness about their own learning, thereby, they become
autonomous. 2.1.2. Population What is worth being mentioned is that the reason behind opting for
master students to be the case of our study is their level of mastery

The Theory Of Deconstruction And Its Impact On Postmodern...
Through The Wexner Center to Analysis Deconstructionism
1. Deconstructionism
Deconstructionism developed in late 1980s by postmodern architecture. The core theory is
deconstruction that eliminates construction then forms it together in different way. The first time of
deconstruction speak of was Jacques Derrida in 1920s, after that a lot of architect influenced by him,
like Peter Eisenman who designed The Wexner Center in OSU. Deconstruction is the critical of stands
on modernist orthodoxy principles. It uses modernism vocabulary, but reversed and reform
construction of the relationship between the various and vocabularies. It also negated the traditional
basic design principles (aesthetics, mechanics, function) in the logical, then process a new meaning of
the style of architecture. With the idea of decomposition, emphasizing the broken and overlay,
restructuring, and attaches great importance to the individual and the widget itself, against the unity
and create a fragmented and uncertainty feeling for the building. In the essence, the deconstruction is
not as popular as the Russia s structuralism in 1920 s, the Dutch style in 1918 1928, or the German
Bauhaus design academic style in 1919 1933. Those styles become the source of a movement with no
more modernism, internationalism design that decade of power control design on the trend. However,
for deconstruction, it is still a kind of person, small part experiment. It has more expressive and

Hamlet And Oedipus Comparison
ll of the tragic heroes have unfortunate things in common. They all have certain qualities that make
them a tragic hero. Hamartia is a required trait for the person to be considered a tragic hero. Also,
hubris is needed to complete the tragic hero. The thing is there are multiple definitions of a tragedy.
People believe that regular people are more capable of partaking in a tragedy. Hamlet and Oedipus are
examples of the traditional tragedy. Hamlet s actions were all voluntary. He knew what he was doing
and the consequences. Oedipus suffered from fate of his family. He didn t realize exactly what he was
doing or the consequences. Oedipus is the truest tragic hero according to the traditional definition of a
tragedy, the downfall of his royalty and uncontrollable fate is a perfect example.
There are two definitions for a tragedy. One of them is the traditional version. Aristotle is the creator
of the elements of tragedy. He came up with a basis to analyze tragedies. There are six different parts
to a tragedy. They are plot, character, diction, thought, spectacle and song. Plot is the order of events
in the story. Plot is a huge deal when dealing with tragedies. Character is the people who act in the
play or story. Tragic heroes are a main part of the story. Everything is based around the tragic hero and
his downfall. The hero always has a flaw that characterizes his unfortunate events. Fall of hubris is a
major key in the tragic hero s traits. This means he or she has excessive pride. This restricts them from
getting help from people occasionally. Also, the main character is affected with hamartia. They are
completely ignorant towards certain important facts throughout their downfall. Which causes terrible
things to happen right in front of them without them noticing. Thought is referring to what the tragic
hero is thinking throughout the plot. They express this through lengthy conversations and soliloquies.
Their soliloquies are very popular and usually carry a heavy amount of information about the
character that the audience needs to know. Diction is the vocabulary the characters use. It is important
to know the kind of connotation the words relate to. The characters express their feelings through

Ancient Roman Entertainment Essay
Citizens in ancient Rome held their entertainment close. Entertainment was free, and appealed to all
social classes, from slaves to the emperor. Two forms of entertainment are chariot racing and gladiator
fights. These were two of the more popular forms of entertainment available to the average Roman
citizens.
The first form of entertainment I am going to talk about is chariot racing. Chariot racing was the most
popular form of entertainment. It appealed to all social classes, from the lowly slaves to the senators
and the emperor. Juvenal s famous saying panem et circenses has become a sign of entertainment
appeasing people throughout the ages. Although there was no public betting one the races, there was a
large amount of private betting that went on and the chance of earning money probably attracted even
more popularity to the races. The races were so popular that many household items were decorated
with symbols from the racing.
The racers were divided into four different teams, called factions (factiones). These were coloured and
their names came from the colours themselves: the Greens, the Reds, the Blues and the Whites. The
green and blue factions were the most powerful, and later on in the empire, they absorbed the other
two into their ranks. The factions were not just racing teams, they also had political influence. Most
Roman citizens became racing fanatics, supporting one of the factions. Some citizens even resorted to
magic to foul their opponents, showed

Comparing American Constitution With The Roman Constitution
In order to compare the American Constitution with the supposed Roman Constitution, context is vital
as to how a constitution is defined. Thus as demarcated by the historian Benjamin Straumann, :
I propose the following criteria for a working concept of constitutionality in the late Republic: a)
entrenchment, i.e., rules that are considered more entrenched... b) political importance, i.e., rules that
are of great importance in that they govern the institutions through which political power is exercised;
c) normative importance, i.e. rules that betray the political system s and its protagonists underlying
political theory; and d) that the rules in question are assigned a juridical quality, that is to say, they are
part of recognizably legal arguments (Straumann pg. 18). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is opposed to Straumann s definition of a modern constitution: Here it would seem that features
of modern day constitutions such as writtenness, judicial review, and the guarantee of certain
individual rights serve as the defining, if implicit, features of a real constitutional order (Straumann
pg. 33). Since the Roman Constitution had continually grown out of precedents, it was more like the
British common law system than the statutory law system of the United States, even though the
American Constitution s evolution throughout the years has seen a number of amendments. What
defines a constitution for the United States as opposed to Rome seems to lie in the fact that one is
written and codified, where as the other is an amalgamation of laws unofficially put together
(Straumann pg.17). Nonetheless, the Roman constitution has indubitably shaped American politics;
features shared by both the Roman and American Constitution include: checks and balances, the

Parkinson s Disease and Tourette s Syndrome Essay
Parkinson s Disease and Tourette s Syndrome
Parkinson s Disease is a literally crippling neurodegenerative disorder, manifested in about 1% of the
aged population. People who have Parkinson s Disease gradually lose control of their movements;
specific symptoms include, tremor, slowness of movement, stiffness, difficulty in walking, and loss of
balance. (1) Evidence strongly suggests that Parkinson s Disease is the result of severe cell loss in the
substantia nigra. This brain structure is principally involved in the production of dopamine. (2)
Dopamine, among other functions, is the neurotransmitter involved in initiation of movement. Hence,
the link between dopaminergic cell loss and cessation of voluntary movement, as manifested ... Show

where movement is planned or motor behavior is organized. Surely enough, research done on the
basal ganglia, namely the striatum and the caudate nucleus, has revealed that dopamine indeed
impacts on these areas more prominently in Tourette s patients than in unaffected controls. (5,6) The
increased dopamine effect in Tourette s patients may be due to two mechanism. One, the patients may
produce more dopamine, hence, their receptors are over stimulated, leading to excessive neuronal
firing, in turn leading to involuntary movements. However, this theory seems to not hold, as
presumably neurons would activate compensatory mechanism to deal with the increase in
neurotransmitter concentration. If really dopamine was present in excess, one would expect receptor
sites to down regulate. One can assume that dopamine is not present in excess in Tourette s patients. A
second mechanism has been proposed. According to this, the dopamine levels in Tourette s patients
are equivalent to non patients, but their receptor sites are supersensitive. This theory seems to hold
true and has been successfully confirmed in the laboratory. Research surrounding dopamine binding in
implicated structures of the brain yielded, that binding to D2 dopamine receptors in the caudate
nucleus was higher in the sibling

about the story
I Am Sam is a powerful, emotional film about love, parenthood and the bonds of family. I m
fascinated by what makes a family and how people create that in untraditional ways, says director and
co screenwriter Jessie Nelson. I think all parents at times feel confused and overwhelmed. It is a
common bond between every parent on the planet, whether you re disabled or not. Parents who are
disabled provide a unique metaphor for how we re all trying to get through an incredibly challenging
world and how we all ultimately need some type of support system.
Raising a child is never easy, but like everybody, Sam Dawson (Academy Award nominee Sean Penn)
has learned to adapt. Sam and his daughter Lucy (Dakota Fanning) have gotten through the basics,
though not always in the conventional way, with the help of Sam s tightly knit group of friends.
Though Lucy s life has never been what anyone would ever call normal, it has always been animated
with humor and full of love.
Lucy and her dad go to IHOP on Wednesday, video night on Thursday, karaoke night on Friday, says
Dakota Fanning, the 7 year old newcomer who plays Lucy Diamond. They just have the best time

The New York World s Fair Corporation
What is average? In the 1930 s, the New York World s Fair Corporation conducted a competition
across America to answer a very similar question. They wanted to define what the average American
family was. The winners? A family by the name of the Leathers, who lived in Texas. They were white,
able bodied, with two parents, two children, and the breadmaker of the house was a man. Other
finalists in the competition paralleled the Leathers in almost every regard. When using this contest as a
foundation for the definition of average, it shows how average is not diverse and rather exclusive. The
contest completely disregarded the diverse people who make America the melting pot of the world.
This is one of many themes that American author, John ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the novella, Crooks is shown to be treated horrendously. The only reason he is treated in
such a way, is due to the color of his skin. For instance, Crooks is regularly not allowed in the
bunkhouse, however, one time he is. It was during Christmas, and the men had been given a bottle of
whiskey. They became drunk and it is at this point that Crooks is attacked. Steinbeck writes, They let

is no logical reason for Smitty to be provoked into harming Crooks. Crooks is at the bottom of the
social ladder and physically disabled. He possesses nothing for Smitty to be jealous of, like a girl,
money, or property, yet Smitty still harms him. This emphasizes how Smitty sees Crooks as nothing
better than a punching bag; something easily replaceable and of little to no value. Not only this, but
Smitty says he has no regrets for attacking Crooks. In fact, Smitty confessing, [I] would have killed
[him] (20), displays pride in the act of almost killing another person. This pride is similar to that of a
hunter killing an animal. Even more frightening, this is not an isolated incident. Later, Crooks is

ABSTRACT
Abrasive Water Jet Machining (AWJM) is a new machining technique. Abrasive Water Jet Machining
is widely used in many industries, including mining and aerospace, for cutting, shaping, and reaming.
AWJM is the extended version of Water Jet Machining. AWJM is a non conventional machining
process where the material is removed by impact erosion of the high velocity, high pressure of water
and entrained high velocity of fine grit abrasives such as sand (SiO2) or beads of glass on a work
piece. The Important process parameters which mainly affect the quality of cutting are hydraulic
pressure, traverse speed, standoff distance, abrasive flow rate and types of abrasive material used in
the process. The Important quality parameters in AWJM are Material Removal Rate (MRR), Surface
Roughness (SR), kerf width and tapering of the kerf. This paper reviews the research work carried out
so far in the area AWJM.
Keywords: AWJM, Material Removal Rate, Surface Roughness, traverse speed, Kerf width

Political Ideologies And The Basic Philosophy Of A Community
Any social and political system that is established in any nation is designed on the fundamental
principles of their existence, which define their cultures, their needs, their demands and the concept of

principles and the ethical boundaries of a society, that works for the construction of a social
embodiment of a country and graphs out certain templates of actions to be followed is known as a
political ideology. Political ideologies help in the enhancements of the basic philosophy of a

Feminism actually began in the late 19th century when the concept behind this ideology was entirely
different to what it is perceived today. Feminism was composed to bring about justice to the
underprivileged members of the society, irrespective of their caste, color, race or gender. Feminism

allocation rates to make them more efficient. Second, policy makers could change allocations to
reflect more accurate precipitation rates along with being more efficient. Third, a market based system
could be implemented allowing for tradeable water rights much like the market system in Australia.
All of these policy options would solve the inefficiencies in the current allocation rates. They would
not solve the supply and demand complications due to the ongoing drought or growing populations.
The first option would simply change the allocation of water making it more efficient and removing
any potential deadweight loss that may otherwise exist. The second option would merely make
allocation rates more efficient by basing them off of more accurate precipitation amounts. The third,
would make it easier for water rights to be traded, leading to a more efficient outcome through trading
rather than mandating consumption amounts.
Method
To start with the first policy option an effort must take place to test the efficiency of current allocation
rates. In an attempt to do so, a simple model will be used to determine what an efficient allocation
would be. To further simplify the model, it will consist of only Upper and Lower basins, averaging
statistics taken from the states located within each basin. This simple model will allow variables to be
changed to help identify how they interact with the efficient allocation of water. To perform this
model, it is necessary to have a demand

Workplace related injuries tend to have far reaching repercussions. The concept of safety is rarely

This means ensuring that the space created does not have impressions of discrimination on grounds of

Farley et al. notes that safe space must be free from any form of harassment. This should be indicated
in the company s code of professional conduct in a corporate scenario (1626). Rockstrom and others
emphasize on provision of safe space such that the vulnerable in the society have a sense of belonging.
For instance, the disabled should be able to maneuver throughout any office space to access a region
of interest. This should be integrated in the initial or subsequent office designs to ensure the
vulnerable are accommodated.
Hutter captures workplaces where workers are restricted to working in small spaces (30). In such a
scenario, safety standards should be designed to ensure that workers are not trapped in small spaces or
fall prey of serious safety hazards especially chemical related injuries (Hutter 30). This calls for
integration of proper equipment and tools to ensure that workers are protected (Rockstrom and
Karlberg 259). Rescue procedures should remain sound to ensure fast rescue operations with proper
follow up procedures to improve safety standards whenever flaws are identified. Whenever possible,
regular safety trainings and drills should be conducted to ensure that individuals

Fluctuating Gas Prices Will Never End Essay

Hurricane Katrina alone took out about 25 percent of U.S. crude oil production and about 15 percent
of U.S. refinery capacity which caused quite an increase in manufacturing costs. The largest factor that
has had the most impact on the overall rise in gas price is the removal of methyl tertiary butyl ether
that started in 2003. Due to the threat of groundwater contamination, the use of the gasoline additive
MTBE has been in the process of being phased out for several years. More than half of the States have
already banned the use of MTBE and you can clearly see its affect since gas prices started its biggest
increase in the same year that production had to change to accommodate the removal. Hybrid cars are

supplement some power therefore using less gas. You could say this is the answer but in reality, while
it does help with emissions, which is a positive factor if you want to save some trees, cost wise, it s
actually worse. In a report released by Consumer Reports earlier this year, they showed that every
single hybrid model car that has ever been made is more expensive to own and operate that its non
hybrid counterpart. So while you save a few pennies on the gallon when you gas up, you spend an
average of two thousand to ten thousand more over a five year span to drive a hybrid and that s after
you calculate your gas savings. Therefore, hybrids are not

Essay on Two Words
Two Words
The short story Two Words by Isabel Allende is a tale about a girl who went by the name of Belisa
Crepusculario. She had extreme desire to be the best at selling words, since the first time she saw
words in the sports section of the newspaper. Belisa learned to read from a priest for 20 pesos and read
the dictionary until she knew it cold. She went from the top of blistering cold mountains to scorching
hot coasts selling her words in markets and fairs. Belisa s words became popular fast and everyone
knew who she was. People waited for her from year to year to hear her words.
The main focus in this story is on the two words that she said to El Mulato that cursed him. This
shows that you can t be so quick to judge ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe that the author tries to lead the reader in to sympathizing for the people when the author
wrote, The rebels swept into town like a stampeding herd.... Chickens took wing, dogs ran for their
lives, women and children scurried out of sight, until the only living soul left in the market was Belisa
Crepusculario. Because this quote from the story shows how everyone s scared of both the Colonel
and El Mulato except for Belisa.
The setting is important in this story cause the story is set in Spain back in the time when women had
no rights and were only used to cook and clean. But Belisa contradicts society by putting a curse on El
Mulato a mighty all powerful man who everyone is scared of except Belisa. When Belisa curses El
Mulato the once all mighty man El Mulato is in the hands of a woman who defeated him.
When reading this short story I think that we are suppose to feel surprised after reading the story from
Belisa s accomplishments because Belisa went from being unpopular and poor to being the most
widely known and the most powerful at the end of the story. The message in this story is aimed to the
reader and it says that anyone can do anything they want if they put there mind to it, and if u have the
determination you can accomplish a lot no matter what you are dealt with in life. Another message in
the story is that no matter how strong or powerful one is there will always be someone bigger and
better.
When I first read this story I found it

GROWTH The Group advanced in three key areas during FY2008. The first was the launch of a new
sub brand called Nero Express. Nero Express units are smaller kiosks located in main transport hubs.
They provide Caffè Nero coffee and a narrower food menu to on the go consumers. Caffè Nero
opened 15 Nero Express units in its first year of operation. Setting up a separate organisation and
working out the logistical issues of operating in railway stations and airports was no small challenge.
We are very pleased with all the progress that has been achieved in our first 12 months of operating

Immigration Policy And The Immigration Sector
Immigration
PAD 3034

July 9th, 2015
Abstract
In this paper, I decided to analyze the immigration policy. The immigration policies have had a deep
history. The policies have been twisted, in the long run, to meet the demands of the time. However,
most of the times, the policies have been unfair especially in regard to the immigrants. The overview
contains a rich history of the policy progression and advancements in the immigration sector. In this
paper, I decided to extrapolate on some few contemporary issues that are as a result of the immigration
policies and laws. One of the contentious issues is the Visa policy. This is a system that is widely used
by the US government. Though formulated with a good purpose, the formulation did not cater for
everything that is associated with immigration. For instance, the immigrants who are on transit for
employment are not selected based on the employment demand in the market, hence, they end up
being stranded and thus are forced to accept low paying jobs with poor working conditions. The
solution to this is also discussed in the paper. I have also discussed on the open door policy and its
implications which include overpopulation. Overpopulation on its part has directly affected both the
immigrants and natives with many adverse effects. I was able to do research, and I consequently came
up with a set of alternative methods that could be of help. However, I have also discussed

Behavior Change Project
Selecting a Student
I selected my student from one of my students that I viewed to have some of the worst behavior in the
class. I am at Bond Elementary School which is an intercity school. Most of the school s student
population comes from subsidized housing (the projects). I am in a first grade class of nineteen
students. While performing my duties at in Mrs. J Williams Classroom I became very eager to observe
as well as work with a student by the name of Ja Von W. Ja Von is a six year old, I recently found out
that his mother is on drugs and is being supported by his sixteen year old brother. Many of the
students that I have observed in the classroom have had behavior problems and issues with their ...

In the intervention after helping him with his vocabulary and introducing the interventive technique I
will record how many words he gets wrong with the tally marks on the form same as I did for
baseline. Ja Von will hopefully be reading with 80% fluency after the end of the intervention.
Developing an Intervention
The intervention I selected was Chart Moves. The way that I implemented this particular intervention
with the student is by writing his name on the poster in which I supplied. Every time the student
performed the desired behavior, which was reading fluently within two minutes and answering post
questions he would move up half a notch. With the chart, Ja Von would have the opportunity to earn
different reinforcement such as things that he was interested in or things that he liked. I became aware
of the things that he was interested in during the observation phase and before I introduced him to the
intervention, I asked him to make a list of the 10 things that he enjoyed doing or things that he liked in
general. The list included but were not limited too cookies, candy and action figures. This gave me the
opportunity to use the reinforcers as ways to increase the desired behavior and decrease the
inappropriate one. After the intervention was introduced, it was explained to the student how it would
work. Moreover, the way the system was designed to work in the way that the student would quickly
and accurately read a passage

2) What meaning do female military spouses make of interactions with employment resources?
Research Design and Methods The research design and methods of a study are constructed based on
identifying the research problem, developing the theoretical framework, and reviewing the literature
(Merriam, 2009). However, the heart of any research design, according to Maxwell (2013), is the
research questions. The research questions help to focus the study and influence the choice of research
design and methods for data collection. More than any other aspect of your design, your research
questions will have an influence on, and should be responsive to, every other part of your study
(Maxwell, 2013, p. 73).
Why Qualitative Methods
Qualitative research, also known as interpretive research, produces data that reveal, how people
interpret their experiences, how they construct their worlds, and what meaning they attribute to their
experiences (Merriam, 2009, p. 5). It is often an inductive process that builds on the participants
perspectives (Maxwell, 2013). Since this pilot study s goal is to understand military

The Nottingham Pulse Rig Towards Determining The Mechanism...
This Chapter discusses the progress made using the Nottingham Pulse Rig towards determining the
mechanism of the Fischer Tropsch reaction. A summary of the three main mechanisms proposed in the
literature was outlined in Chapter 1 but is still the subject of much debate.1 6 Generally the carbide
mechanism is accepted for Fe catalysts,7 but the mechanism over Co catalysts is less clear.1 Ge and
Neurock,8 as well as Ojeda et al.,4 have suggested that the carbide mechanism is the pathway for FT
synthesis on Co catalysts. However, they disagree over the route to CO dissociation; direct
dissociation of the carbonyl bond has been proposed by Ge and Neurock, whilst Ojeda et al. have
concluded that carbonyl dissociation proceeds via an H assisted ... Show more content on

3.1.1 On the Mechanism and Active Site of the FT Process Over Co Catalysts Several studies have
investigated the effect of syngas on the structure of metallic Co catalysts.9 12 For instance, Karaca et
al. investigated the effect of syngas on a CoPt/Al2O3 catalyst using X Ray Diffraction (XRD).9 After
reducing the catalyst in H2 at 623 K, XRD peaks were observed for face centred cubic (fcc) and
hexagonal close packed (hcp) structures of metallic Co. After exposure to 20 bar of syngas at 493 K,
the fcc XRD peaks became narrower over 5 hrs, which was suggested to be due to an increase in the
particle size due to sintering of the Co metal phase. Over the subsequent 5 hrs this peak decreased in
intensity and a new peak assigned to a carbide phase grew in. Therefore, the authors concluded that
deactivation of the catalyst was due initially to sintering and then, over longer periods of time, to
carbidisation. Wilson and de Groot have investigated the surface reorganisation of a model Co catalyst
upon exposure to 4 bar of a H2/CO mixture (2:1 ratio) at 523 K.10 11 The surface was examined ex
situ in an Ultra High Vacuum (UHV) chamber before and after exposure to syngas using a Scanning
Tunnelling Microscope (STM). Before exposure to CO the surface consisted of flat terraces, with a
Co(0001) structure. The terrace surfaces were separated by cliff edges ranging in size from single

Short-term Memory Affects Color Perception in Context...
Short term Memory Affects Color Perception in Context The purpose of the experiment was to study
the effects of short term memory on perceptual observations, determine whether there is actually an
independence between color memory and surface color assessment, and to discuss the differences
between perception and memory characteristics. Another goal of this study was to estimate surface
reflectance of an object from a general measurement of incoming light signals and figure out how it
affects memory with realistic scenes and tasks. Perception is defined as the ability to see, hear, or
become aware of something through senses and memory is defined as the faculty by which the mind
stores and remembers information. Both of these are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Our brain relies on spatial frequency, bistable figures, motion direction, and structure from motion to
help aid in the determination of surface color, scene complexity, and context color. All of those plus
previous knowledge about encounters can affect how the brain stores the information. The interaction
implies that during information processing, memory and perception must be studied jointly. There are
three steps that our brains take in order for us to make a decision based on the task given to us. Step
one consists of a person observing both surface reflectance and illumination. Step two happens when
the background color dominates the observes illumination based on spatial length. Step three, the
person will use prior experiences of reflectance and illumination. Step four takes step three, but
compares and updates the observation based on whats being displayed in the trials. This allows the
observer to make a precise conclusion. One major issue that arose during this study was bias.
However, in this case, more bias indicates better consistency. Bias was defined as PSEcondition
PSEbaseline. Positive biases showed a shift toward bluer hues and a

Good And Evil In The Film Versions Of Cinderella
Fairy tales are constantly changing as they are told overtime. The fairy tale of Cinderella has evolved
drastically throughout the several versions of short stories, books, and films that have been released
since the first story in1697. Since then, the stories have progressed, as well as the films, in a way that
fit better for children. The Disney film versions of Cinderella have become increasingly popular in a
way that many viewers have the idea of what a Cinderella story consists of. The existence of the
theme of good and evil in this work, is very important to the overall story line and is important to fairy
tales overall. How has the theme of good versus evil changed throughout the various film versions of

Being the first African American Cinderella and a remake of Rodgers and Hammerstein s 1957
musical, Cinderella, the story s plot is very similar to the 1950 Disney animated film. Cinderella
stands up for what she believes in much more than she does in previous films. An example of this
would be when Cinderella speaks to her stepsisters towards the opening of the film, as both stepsisters
try to find out if a particular hat looks better on one of them, but Cinderella makes it known that the
hat isn t flattering on either of them. Cinderella makes comments like this throughout the film, but
never in a rude or demeaning way. When she expresses remarks in this instance, she says it in a calm
and respectful manner. So, although her character is a bit spiced up, she is still extremely kind.
Cinderella also comes to realization that there are some things that have to be worked for rather than
sitting just dreaming and wishing for things to fall into place as she states in the film, You know what
the problem is with most people? They sit around wishing for something to happen instead of doing
something about it (Wilson 2015). Although there are the same gentle characters in this film as in
previous films, Cinderella is not close to the mice in her house, but she develops a relationship with
Prince Christopher before attending the ball. They get a chance to know one another in a

America s Meat Industry Hides From The Consumer
America s meat industry hides from the consumer, according to Michael Pollan, author of The
Omnivore s Dilemma. The consumer, as well as corporations, have built walls instead of demanding
transparency. Journalists and the general public are not permitted to enter abattoirs of many
corporations, leaving the judgement of slaughtering methods to the businesses themselves. State and
federal regulations aren t always enforced, thus corporations decide what is humane . Profit
organisations find the most efficient and lucrative system, yet ignore the secondary costs to natural
systems. Pollan argues that in preventing abuse, only transparency holds businesses accountable to
regulations. He states in Omnivore s Dilemma, No other country raises and slaughters its food animals
quite as intensively or as brutally as we do . Many Americans would disagree because they are
ignorant of the system. We have chosen not to see what really happens to the animals we eat,
understandably, due to the unpleasant truths Pollan uncovers. As a summary, slaughterhouses kill a
steer by stunning it, hanging it upside down by its leg and bleeding it out by cutting its throat.
However, (according to McDonald s) they accept a five percent error rate, meaning when the first
stunning does not kill the animal, the steer continues along the conveyor belt for processing. Animal
rights group s accounts have revealed that live animals have been skinned alive and go through
immense suffering. Despite the

She knew my fear of public speaking, she also knew my dream of becoming a teacher and starting to a

extremely pleased with myself to speak clearly and to have the strength and encouragement of my
family to overcome my greatest fear with a poem in dedication to my beloved cousin. In 5th grade, my
insecurity resulted in myself being bullied by others for my appearance which I expressed still affects

Social Life in Medieval and Early Modern Italy
Nicolo Macchiavelli and The Prince
At the end of the 14th century, Italy was still politically organized by city states. Emerging as one of
the most influential writers of the Renaissance, Niccolo Machiavelli was a political analyst, whose
aim was to free italy from foreign rule, as well as to unite and strengthen the Italian city states.

As head of the second chancery, Machiavelli was also soon assigned the further job of secretary to the
Ten of War, the committee responsible for Florence s diplomatic relations. This meant that in addition
to his routine office duties, Machiavelli sometimes traveled abroad to act as spokesman for the Ten.
During the next fourteen years, Machiavelli was sent on numerous diplomatic missions to France,
Switzerland, and Germany. His observations abroad resulted in many of the ideas that form the basis
for the major statements found in his political works. While in France, Machiavelli observed the effect
of having one prince ruling a united country and in 1512 he wrote his most famous treatise The Prince.
Remembering how the French benefitted from having one principality ruled by one prince,
Machiavelli intended The Prince to serve as a guide to centralize Italy under one principality, as well
as how to gain, maintain political power. Most importantly, The Prince suggests how to rule
effectively and what kind of prince is best.
Dedicated to Lorenzo DiMedici, The Prince provides a blueprint for how to take control of other lands
and how to maintain power over them. The Prince is different because Machaivelli avoids purely
theoretical issues and focues on how things actually are, rather than speculating on how they might be.

What is significant about developments in Post Cold War IR theory?
This essay will explore the significance of developments in post Cold War International Relations
theory. It wasn t surprising that the collapse of the Soviet bloc, arguably the third greatest cataclysm of
the Twentieth Century and an event which drew a line under the Two World Wars, would pose some
serious theoretical questions for International Relations. In order to do this the essay will be broken
down into two sections. The first will analyse globalisation and the effect of it on Realism. The second
the will analyse culture and its effect on Liberalism. As a result this will demonstrate, theoretically,
that issues in post Cold War international relations can be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Africa and other less developed countries, although not completely opening itself up to globalisation,
is accepting the internet and other telecommunications as an opportunity to gain access to knowledge
and services from around the world in a way that would have been unimaginable previously. The
internet and technologies such as mobile telephony allow developing countries to leapfrog steps in
their development of infrastructure. A poor land line telephone system in the Philippines, for example,
is being rapidly bypassed by mobile phones with internet access. The spread of globalisation on this
scale would have been unthinkable if the Soviet bloc hadn t collapsed opening up new markets and
cultures.
Liberalism, which was very prominent after the First World War (WWI) during the setting up of the
League of Nations, is concerned with the individuals within the state. In other words the state is the
‘servant to the people s thoughts. Francis Fukuyama in his book The End of History and the Last
Man says that he could see no major competing ideology to the ‘liberal idea after the Cold War but
only localised resistance. (Fukuyama 1992: 45 46). During the Cold War cultural differences had to

Transit Co Operation Research Program
A report published in 2008 titled Transit Co operation Research Program (TCRP) synthesis 78 based
on the survey responses provided by 94 educational institutions revealed some facts about the transit
systems in college and universities (TRB, 2008). The most of the survey respondents were from four
year universities. All of the universities indicated that they have either self operated transit system or a
public transportation office operated transit system to serve the campus communities. The most of the
respondents agreed that the headway was less than 10 minutes for these transit stations in the college.
The report showed that 29 transit systems charged no bus fare for students and 26 transit systems
charged $1.00 to $1.50 per local bus ride. However, majority of shuttle services for on campus
circulation were offered free to ride. Another interesting fact mentioned in the report was that around
60% of the universities utilized remote park and ride services. The report revealed the fact that many
institutions were found to be charging low parking prices to their staffs and faculties. Nine institutions
reported to have annual parking fee less than $100. The report also mentioned that this reduced
parking price was not supporting the concept of reducing the number of single occupant vehicle
(SOV). The report recommended for conducting more research on the safety system, including late
night safety and emergencies regarding the transit system.

  • 3. The Possibility Of Integrating Critical Thinking For... Chapter Two: Investigating the Possibility of Integrating Critical Thinking in English Language Teaching Introduction Montaigne views that saying is one thing; doing is another thing (qtd. in Robson 191). This insinuates that what one says might be different from what s/he does, hence the necessity when enquiring about the possibility of integrating critical thinking in English Language Teaching. This chapter is devoted to the investigation of the hypothesis of the study, whether critical thinking could be incorporated in English Language Teaching. This chapter is undertaken with this spirit, we will start our investigation by introducing the population of the study. Then, we describe, analyze and interpret the questionnaires results. It will help us confirm or disconfirm our hypotheses about possible correlation between critical thinking and language teaching. We provide two sections, first, we deal with the students questionnaire followed by its analysis, and then, we will move to do the same with teachers questionnaire. 2.1. Methodology 2.1.1. Hypothesis It is worth to reiterate our research hypothesis: Incorporating the teaching of critical thinking skills may enhance EFL students mastery of the field, and raise their awareness about their own learning, thereby, they become autonomous. 2.1.2. Population What is worth being mentioned is that the reason behind opting for master students to be the case of our study is their level of mastery ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Theory Of Deconstruction And Its Impact On Postmodern... Through The Wexner Center to Analysis Deconstructionism 1. Deconstructionism Deconstructionism developed in late 1980s by postmodern architecture. The core theory is deconstruction that eliminates construction then forms it together in different way. The first time of deconstruction speak of was Jacques Derrida in 1920s, after that a lot of architect influenced by him, like Peter Eisenman who designed The Wexner Center in OSU. Deconstruction is the critical of stands on modernist orthodoxy principles. It uses modernism vocabulary, but reversed and reform construction of the relationship between the various and vocabularies. It also negated the traditional basic design principles (aesthetics, mechanics, function) in the logical, then process a new meaning of the style of architecture. With the idea of decomposition, emphasizing the broken and overlay, restructuring, and attaches great importance to the individual and the widget itself, against the unity and create a fragmented and uncertainty feeling for the building. In the essence, the deconstruction is not as popular as the Russia s structuralism in 1920 s, the Dutch style in 1918 1928, or the German Bauhaus design academic style in 1919 1933. Those styles become the source of a movement with no more modernism, internationalism design that decade of power control design on the trend. • 5. Hamlet And Oedipus Comparison ll of the tragic heroes have unfortunate things in common. They all have certain qualities that make them a tragic hero. Hamartia is a required trait for the person to be considered a tragic hero. Also, hubris is needed to complete the tragic hero. The thing is there are multiple definitions of a tragedy. People believe that regular people are more capable of partaking in a tragedy. Hamlet and Oedipus are examples of the traditional tragedy. Hamlet s actions were all voluntary. He knew what he was doing and the consequences. Oedipus suffered from fate of his family. He didn t realize exactly what he was doing or the consequences. Oedipus is the truest tragic hero according to the traditional definition of a tragedy, the downfall of his royalty and uncontrollable fate is a perfect example. There are two definitions for a tragedy. One of them is the traditional version. Aristotle is the creator of the elements of tragedy. He came up with a basis to analyze tragedies. There are six different parts to a tragedy. They are plot, character, diction, thought, spectacle and song. Plot is the order of events in the story. Plot is a huge deal when dealing with tragedies. Character is the people who act in the play or story. Tragic heroes are a main part of the story. Everything is based around the tragic hero and his downfall. The hero always has a flaw that characterizes his unfortunate events. Fall of hubris is a major key in the tragic hero s traits. This means he or she has excessive pride. This restricts them from getting help from people occasionally. Also, the main character is affected with hamartia. They are completely ignorant towards certain important facts throughout their downfall. Which causes terrible things to happen right in front of them without them noticing. Thought is referring to what the tragic hero is thinking throughout the plot. They express this through lengthy conversations and soliloquies. Their soliloquies are very popular and usually carry a heavy amount of information about the character that the audience needs to know. Diction is the vocabulary the characters use. It is important to know the kind of connotation the words relate to. The characters express their feelings through word ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Ancient Roman Entertainment Essay Citizens in ancient Rome held their entertainment close. Entertainment was free, and appealed to all social classes, from slaves to the emperor. Two forms of entertainment are chariot racing and gladiator fights. These were two of the more popular forms of entertainment available to the average Roman citizens. The first form of entertainment I am going to talk about is chariot racing. Chariot racing was the most popular form of entertainment. It appealed to all social classes, from the lowly slaves to the senators and the emperor. Juvenal s famous saying panem et circenses has become a sign of entertainment appeasing people throughout the ages. Although there was no public betting one the races, there was a large amount of private betting that went on and the chance of earning money probably attracted even more popularity to the races. The races were so popular that many household items were decorated with symbols from the racing. The racers were divided into four different teams, called factions (factiones). These were coloured and their names came from the colours themselves: the Greens, the Reds, the Blues and the Whites. The green and blue factions were the most powerful, and later on in the empire, they absorbed the other two into their ranks. The factions were not just racing teams, they also had political influence. Most Roman citizens became racing fanatics, supporting one of the factions. Some citizens even resorted to magic to foul their opponents, showed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Comparing American Constitution With The Roman Constitution In order to compare the American Constitution with the supposed Roman Constitution, context is vital as to how a constitution is defined. Thus as demarcated by the historian Benjamin Straumann, : I propose the following criteria for a working concept of constitutionality in the late Republic: a) entrenchment, i.e., rules that are considered more entrenched... b) political importance, i.e., rules that are of great importance in that they govern the institutions through which political power is exercised; c) normative importance, i.e. rules that betray the political system s and its protagonists underlying political theory; and d) that the rules in question are assigned a juridical quality, that is to say, they are part of recognizably legal arguments (Straumann pg. 18). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is opposed to Straumann s definition of a modern constitution: Here it would seem that features of modern day constitutions such as writtenness, judicial review, and the guarantee of certain individual rights serve as the defining, if implicit, features of a real constitutional order (Straumann pg. 33). Since the Roman Constitution had continually grown out of precedents, it was more like the British common law system than the statutory law system of the United States, even though the American Constitution s evolution throughout the years has seen a number of amendments. What defines a constitution for the United States as opposed to Rome seems to lie in the fact that one is written and codified, where as the other is an amalgamation of laws unofficially put together (Straumann pg.17). Nonetheless, the Roman constitution has indubitably shaped American politics; features shared by both the Roman and American Constitution include: checks and balances, the ... • 9. Parkinson s Disease and Tourette s Syndrome Essay Parkinson s Disease and Tourette s Syndrome Parkinson s Disease is a literally crippling neurodegenerative disorder, manifested in about 1% of the aged population. People who have Parkinson s Disease gradually lose control of their movements; specific symptoms include, tremor, slowness of movement, stiffness, difficulty in walking, and loss of balance. (1) Evidence strongly suggests that Parkinson s Disease is the result of severe cell loss in the substantia nigra. This brain structure is principally involved in the production of dopamine. (2) Dopamine, among other functions, is the neurotransmitter involved in initiation of movement. Hence, the link between dopaminergic cell loss and cessation of voluntary movement, as manifested ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... where movement is planned or motor behavior is organized. Surely enough, research done on the basal ganglia, namely the striatum and the caudate nucleus, has revealed that dopamine indeed impacts on these areas more prominently in Tourette s patients than in unaffected controls. (5,6) The increased dopamine effect in Tourette s patients may be due to two mechanism. One, the patients may produce more dopamine, hence, their receptors are over stimulated, leading to excessive neuronal firing, in turn leading to involuntary movements. However, this theory seems to not hold, as presumably neurons would activate compensatory mechanism to deal with the increase in neurotransmitter concentration. If really dopamine was present in excess, one would expect receptor sites to down regulate. One can assume that dopamine is not present in excess in Tourette s patients. A second mechanism has been proposed. According to this, the dopamine levels in Tourette s patients are equivalent to non patients, but their receptor sites are supersensitive. This theory seems to hold true and has been successfully confirmed in the laboratory. Research surrounding dopamine binding in implicated structures of the brain yielded, that binding to D2 dopamine receptors in the caudate nucleus was higher in the sibling ... Essay on I Am Sam I Am Sam is the compelling story of Sam Dawson (Sean Penn), a mentally challenged father raising his daughter Lucy (Dakota Fanning) with the help of an extraordinary group of friends. As Lucy turns seven and begins to intellectually surpass her father, their close bond is threatened when their situation comes under the scrutiny of a social worker who wants Lucy placed in foster care. Faced with a seemingly unwinnable case, Sam vows to fight the legal system and forms an unlikely alliance with Rita Harrison (Michelle Pfeiffer), a high powered, self absorbed attorney who initially takes his case pro bona as a challenge from her colleagues. I Am Sam (rated PG 13 by the M.P.A.A. for language ) will be released in Los Angeles and New York on December 28th, 2001 and wide on January 25th, 2002. about the story I Am Sam is a powerful, emotional film about love, parenthood and the bonds of family. I m fascinated by what makes a family and how people create that in untraditional ways, says director and co screenwriter Jessie Nelson. I think all parents at times feel confused and overwhelmed. It is a common bond between every parent on the planet, whether you re disabled or not. Parents who are disabled provide a unique metaphor for how we re all trying to get through an incredibly challenging world and how we all ultimately need some type of support system. Raising a child is never easy, but like everybody, Sam Dawson (Academy Award nominee Sean Penn) has learned to adapt. Sam and his daughter Lucy (Dakota Fanning) have gotten through the basics, though not always in the conventional way, with the help of Sam s tightly knit group of friends. They wanted to define what the average American family was. The winners? A family by the name of the Leathers, who lived in Texas. They were white, able bodied, with two parents, two children, and the breadmaker of the house was a man. Other finalists in the competition paralleled the Leathers in almost every regard. When using this contest as a foundation for the definition of average, it shows how average is not diverse and rather exclusive. There is no logical reason for Smitty to be provoked into harming Crooks. Crooks is at the bottom of the social ladder and physically disabled. He possesses nothing for Smitty to be jealous of, like a girl, money, or property, yet Smitty still harms him. This emphasizes how Smitty sees Crooks as nothing better than a punching bag; something easily replaceable and of little to no value. Not only this, but Smitty says he has no regrets for attacking Crooks. In fact, Smitty confessing, [I] would have killed [him] (20), displays pride in the act of almost killing another person. Abrasive Water Jet Machining ( Awjm ) A Review Paper Submitted By Shaumilkumar Patel (50204321) On Abrasive Water Jet Machining In The partial fulfillment of Coursework IE 506 ABSTRACT Abrasive Water Jet Machining (AWJM) is a new machining technique. Abrasive Water Jet Machining is widely used in many industries, including mining and aerospace, for cutting, shaping, and reaming. AWJM is the extended version of Water Jet Machining. AWJM is a non conventional machining process where the material is removed by impact erosion of the high velocity, high pressure of water and entrained high velocity of fine grit abrasives such as sand (SiO2) or beads of glass on a work piece. The Important process parameters which mainly affect the quality of cutting are hydraulic pressure, traverse speed, standoff distance, abrasive flow rate and types of abrasive material used in the process. The Important quality parameters in AWJM are Material Removal Rate (MRR), Surface Roughness (SR), kerf width and tapering of the kerf. Second, policy makers could change allocations to reflect more accurate precipitation rates along with being more efficient. Third, a market based system could be implemented allowing for tradeable water rights much like the market system in Australia. All of these policy options would solve the inefficiencies in the current allocation rates. They would not solve the supply and demand complications due to the ongoing drought or growing populations. The first option would simply change the allocation of water making it more efficient and removing any potential deadweight loss that may otherwise exist. The second option would merely make allocation rates more efficient by basing them off of more accurate precipitation amounts. The third, would make it easier for water rights to be traded, leading to a more efficient outcome through trading rather than mandating consumption amounts. Method To start with the first policy option an effort must take place to test the efficiency of current allocation rates. In an attempt to do so, a simple model will be used to determine what an efficient allocation would be. To further simplify the model, it will consist of only Upper and Lower basins, averaging statistics taken from the states located within each basin. This simple model will allow variables to be changed to help identify how they interact with the efficient allocation of water. To perform this model, it is necessary to have a demand ... The largest factor that has had the most impact on the overall rise in gas price is the removal of methyl tertiary butyl ether that started in 2003. Due to the threat of groundwater contamination, the use of the gasoline additive MTBE has been in the process of being phased out for several years. More than half of the States have already banned the use of MTBE and you can clearly see its affect since gas prices started its biggest increase in the same year that production had to change to accommodate the removal. Immigration Policy And The Immigration Sector Immigration PAD 3034 Juan Sarmiento Florida International University July 9th, 2015 Abstract In this paper, I decided to analyze the immigration policy. The immigration policies have had a deep history. The policies have been twisted, in the long run, to meet the demands of the time. However, most of the times, the policies have been unfair especially in regard to the immigrants. The overview contains a rich history of the policy progression and advancements in the immigration sector. In this paper, I decided to extrapolate on some few contemporary issues that are as a result of the immigration policies and laws. One of the contentious issues is the Visa policy. This is a system that is widely used by the US government. Though formulated with a good purpose, the formulation did not cater for everything that is associated with immigration. For instance, the immigrants who are on transit for employment are not selected based on the employment demand in the market, hence, they end up being stranded and thus are forced to accept low paying jobs with poor working conditions. The solution to this is also discussed in the paper. I have also discussed on the open door policy and its implications which include overpopulation. Overpopulation on its part has directly affected both the immigrants and natives with many adverse effects. I was able to do research, and I consequently came up with a set of alternative methods that could be of help. However, I have also discussed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This Chapter discusses the progress made using the Nottingham Pulse Rig towards determining the mechanism of the Fischer Tropsch reaction. A summary of the three main mechanisms proposed in the literature was outlined in Chapter 1 but is still the subject of much debate.1 6 Generally the carbide mechanism is accepted for Fe catalysts,7 but the mechanism over Co catalysts is less clear.1 Ge and Neurock,8 as well as Ojeda et al.,4 have suggested that the carbide mechanism is the pathway for FT synthesis on Co catalysts. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 3.1.1 On the Mechanism and Active Site of the FT Process Over Co Catalysts Several studies have investigated the effect of syngas on the structure of metallic Co catalysts.9 12 For instance, Karaca et al. investigated the effect of syngas on a CoPt/Al2O3 catalyst using X Ray Diffraction (XRD).9 After reducing the catalyst in H2 at 623 K, XRD peaks were observed for face centred cubic (fcc) and hexagonal close packed (hcp) structures of metallic Co. After exposure to 20 bar of syngas at 493 K, the fcc XRD peaks became narrower over 5 hrs, which was suggested to be due to an increase in the particle size due to sintering of the Co metal phase. Over the subsequent 5 hrs this peak decreased in intensity and a new peak assigned to a carbide phase grew in. Therefore, the authors concluded that deactivation of the catalyst was due initially to sintering and then, over longer periods of time, to carbidisation. Being the first African American Cinderella and a remake of Rodgers and Hammerstein s 1957 musical, Cinderella, the story s plot is very similar to the 1950 Disney animated film. Cinderella stands up for what she believes in much more than she does in previous films. An example of this would be when Cinderella speaks to her stepsisters towards the opening of the film, as both stepsisters try to find out if a particular hat looks better on one of them, but Cinderella makes it known that the hat isn t flattering on either of them. Cinderella makes comments like this throughout the film, but never in a rude or demeaning way. When she expresses remarks in this instance, she says it in a calm and respectful manner. So, although her character is a bit spiced up, she is still extremely kind. Cinderella also comes to realization that there are some things that have to be worked for rather than sitting just dreaming and wishing for things to fall into place as she states in the film, You know what the problem is with most people? They sit around wishing for something to happen instead of doing something about it (Wilson 2015). Although there are the same gentle characters in this film as in previous films, Cinderella is not close to the mice in her house, but she develops a relationship with Prince Christopher before attending the ball. They get a chance to know one another in a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. America s Meat Industry Hides From The Consumer America s meat industry hides from the consumer, according to Michael Pollan, author of The Omnivore s Dilemma. The consumer, as well as corporations, have built walls instead of demanding transparency. Journalists and the general public are not permitted to enter abattoirs of many corporations, leaving the judgement of slaughtering methods to the businesses themselves. State and federal regulations aren t always enforced, thus corporations decide what is humane . Profit organisations find the most efficient and lucrative system, yet ignore the secondary costs to natural systems. Pollan argues that in preventing abuse, only transparency holds businesses accountable to regulations. He states in Omnivore s Dilemma, No other country raises and slaughters its food animals quite as intensively or as brutally as we do . Many Americans would disagree because they are ignorant of the system. We have chosen not to see what really happens to the animals we eat, understandably, due to the unpleasant truths Pollan uncovers. As a summary, slaughterhouses kill a steer by stunning it, hanging it upside down by its leg and bleeding it out by cutting its throat. However, (according to McDonald s) they accept a five percent error rate, meaning when the first stunning does not kill the animal, the steer continues along the conveyor belt for processing. Animal rights group s accounts have revealed that live animals have been skinned alive and go through immense suffering. Despite the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 35. machiavelli and the prince Essay Social Life in Medieval and Early Modern Italy Nicolo Macchiavelli and The Prince At the end of the 14th century, Italy was still politically organized by city states. Emerging as one of the most influential writers of the Renaissance, Niccolo Machiavelli was a political analyst, whose aim was to free italy from foreign rule, as well as to unite and strengthen the Italian city states. As head of the second chancery, Machiavelli was also soon assigned the further job of secretary to the Ten of War, the committee responsible for Florence s diplomatic relations. This meant that in addition to his routine office duties, Machiavelli sometimes traveled abroad to act as spokesman for the Ten. During the next fourteen years, Machiavelli was sent on numerous diplomatic missions to France, Switzerland, and Germany. His observations abroad resulted in many of the ideas that form the basis for the major statements found in his political works. While in France, Machiavelli observed the effect of having one prince ruling a united country and in 1512 he wrote his most famous treatise The Prince. Remembering how the French benefitted from having one principality ruled by one prince, Machiavelli intended The Prince to serve as a guide to centralize Italy under one principality, as well as how to gain, maintain political power. Most importantly, The Prince suggests how to rule effectively and what kind of prince is best. Dedicated to Lorenzo DiMedici, The Prince provides a blueprint for how to take control of other lands and how to maintain power over them. The Prince is different because Machaivelli avoids purely theoretical issues and focues on how things actually are, rather than speculating on how they might be. • 36. What Is Significant About Developments in Post-Cold War Ir... What is significant about developments in Post Cold War IR theory? This essay will explore the significance of developments in post Cold War International Relations theory. It wasn t surprising that the collapse of the Soviet bloc, arguably the third greatest cataclysm of the Twentieth Century and an event which drew a line under the Two World Wars, would pose some serious theoretical questions for International Relations. In order to do this the essay will be broken down into two sections. The first will analyse globalisation and the effect of it on Realism. The second the will analyse culture and its effect on Liberalism. As a result this will demonstrate, theoretically, that issues in post Cold War international relations can be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Africa and other less developed countries, although not completely opening itself up to globalisation, is accepting the internet and other telecommunications as an opportunity to gain access to knowledge and services from around the world in a way that would have been unimaginable previously. The internet and technologies such as mobile telephony allow developing countries to leapfrog steps in their development of infrastructure. A poor land line telephone system in the Philippines, for example, is being rapidly bypassed by mobile phones with internet access. The spread of globalisation on this scale would have been unthinkable if the Soviet bloc hadn t collapsed opening up new markets and cultures. Liberalism, which was very prominent after the First World War (WWI) during the setting up of the League of Nations, is concerned with the individuals within the state. In other words the state is the ‘servant to the people s thoughts. Francis Fukuyama in his book The End of History and the Last Man says that he could see no major competing ideology to the ‘liberal idea after the Cold War but only localised resistance. (Fukuyama 1992: 45 46). During the Cold War cultural differences had to take a backseat to the global geopolitical struggle between the US and USSR. Both the US and USSR offered their way of living, either democratically or totalitarian, to the rest of the worlds states. When the Cold War ended the way at which the liberal politics of the West were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Transit Co Operation Research Program A report published in 2008 titled Transit Co operation Research Program (TCRP) synthesis 78 based on the survey responses provided by 94 educational institutions revealed some facts about the transit systems in college and universities (TRB, 2008). The most of the survey respondents were from four year universities. All of the universities indicated that they have either self operated transit system or a public transportation office operated transit system to serve the campus communities. The most of the respondents agreed that the headway was less than 10 minutes for these transit stations in the college. The report showed that 29 transit systems charged no bus fare for students and 26 transit systems charged $1.00 to $1.50 per local bus ride. However, majority of shuttle services for on campus circulation were offered free to ride. Another interesting fact mentioned in the report was that around 60% of the universities utilized remote park and ride services. The report revealed the fact that many institutions were found to be charging low parking prices to their staffs and faculties. Nine institutions reported to have annual parking fee less than $100. The report also mentioned that this reduced parking price was not supporting the concept of reducing the number of single occupant vehicle (SOV). The report recommended for conducting more research on the safety system, including late night safety and emergencies regarding the transit system. Similarly, the report on ...
