Amelia Mary Earhart Biography
Hello! My name is Amelia Mary Earhart, and I was born on July 24, 1897. I was the first
woman to fly solo across the Atlantic ocean, and I have earned many aviation records, (which is a
history record for people who are Aviators, also known as an Aircraft pilot). I received the U.S.
Distinguished Flying Cross for flying across the Atlantic ocean, this was my greatest award, and the
best moment of my life. On May, 15, 1923 I became the 16th woman to be issued a pilot s license!
This was rarely ever given to woman, and I had made a strong stand for women s rights. My first
plane, I named The Canary , for it s bright yellow color. I was in love, it was the first plane I had
ever flown all by myself! However, what most people do not know, is that

Harry Potter Teamwork Essay
The Importance of Teamwork and Alliances in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix In the
world of Harry Potter, dark forces are a constant threat. Throughout the movie, the characters fight
several dark forces. Although the students have participated in battles in the past four movies, they
are now attempting to take it all alone. However, after struggling to build up the talent and
experience in order to pose a threat to the Death Eaters and the Ministry, it becomes clear that they
need experienced people to help. Harry Potterand the Order of the Phoenix uses key events to

In order to convince them that they do not need to learn and practice casting spells in class.
Since Harry and his friends Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger know that Lord Voldemort is
back, they come together to recruit an army and convince the students to prepare to fight off
Voldemort and the Death Eaters. While they were discussing where to have the class, another
student named Neville Longbottom stumbled upon the Room of Requirement a secret room that
only shows itself to people who are in need of it. While Umbridge is trying to track down the
Army, the room of requirement is the best place to keep them concealed. Neville finding it was a
huge step in making sure they would be in a safe environment, while allowing them to start the
class faster. Since Harry is very skilled at casting spells and charms, he starts teaching the students
how to protect themselves against the dark forces. This makes it easy for the students to learn how
to protect themselves, since Harry has first hand experience in

How Did Germany Influence The Us Foreign Policy
The U.S s strategic decision to amalgamate its German zone with Britain and France into one unit
while introducing a new German currency, and initiatives such as the Marshall Plan and Truman
Doctrine to contain communism contributed to their success against the Soviets. After World War
II, Germany was separated into four zones of military occupation run by the U.S, Britain, France,
and the U.S.S.R. During the division, the U.S and U.S.S.R competed for territorial and political
dominance in Germany because the country was a pinnacle for economic and social change at the
time. The U.S, France, and Britain believed a powerful Germany could enable democracy to
prosper after the years of Nazi dictatorship as well as Europe s economy. Thus, to strengthen
Germany to encourage the prosperity of democracy, Britain, France, and the U.S combined their
respective German zones into one unit while introducing a new currency the Deutschmark while
failing to inform the U.S.S.R. As West Germany became a stable western democracy, East Germany
continued to grow as a communist... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, keeping Germany weak included the implementation of communism, which the U.S.
strongly opposed. The U.S. used the policy of containment to directly prevent the spread of
communism. Their first step into trying to contain communism was the Truman Doctrine, in which
Harry Truman incorporated the desire for containment, which vowed to support nations fighting
communism. Truman and Congress had pledged $400 million to fight communist revolutionaries in
Greece and Turkey. If Greece were to fall under the control of communist rebels communism might
also spread throughout the Middle East (Truman, 1947). Truman also convinced the Western
European powers to join NATO so that they could mutually defend themselves against the threat of

Kant’s Argugument for the Existance of Supreme Moral Law
By the end of section II of The Groundwork of the Metaphysics of Morals, Kant has established
that, if there were a supreme moral law, it would look like the categorical imperative. His task in
the final section of the Groundwork is to show that there does in fact exist such a moral law by
proving that we have free wills, and secondary to this, he wants to show why we actually take an
interest in morality. This paper will provide an account and evaluate the success of Kant s argument
in this final section.
By the start of section III, Kant has finished developing the structure of the supreme moral law,
were it to exist. He began by analyzing our popular conceptions of morality, and worked toward
developing a rational reconstruction of this morality. In line with this effort, Kant specifies the will
as the fundamental cause of action for rational beings, and it is the supreme moral law that the will
acts for the sake of and from which we derive our duties. This principle, called the categorical
imperative, is the unconditioned conditioner of the will, in that it is the determining ground for the
will, but is not itself determined by any other law.
Kant offers three formulas of the categorical imperative in section II, and it is the third
formulation, which requires us to think of ourselves as legislating universal law in a kingdom of
ends, that emphasizes the importance of autonomy. It is this concept of autonomy, or freedom of
the will, that will be crucial for Kant in

Zedekiah was blinded and led away in chains. However this time the Babylonians deported all but

Esther means star. Esther became queen in 479 B.C. The key personalities are Esther, Mordecai,
King Ahasuerus (or Xerxes), and Haman.
Its purpose is to demonstrate God s love and sovereignty in all circumstances. It is a post exile
story about Jews who stayed behind after most returned to Jerusalem after the captivity. Babylon
was conquered by Persia and Esther miraculously becomes the queen of the land, and saves her
people.
In chapter 1 2, Esther becomes the queen of Ahasuerus of Persia. She was personally chosen by the
King. The king loved Esther more than all the women, and she found favor and kindness with him
(2:17), probably because of her beauty and intelligence.
Chapters 3 4, Mordecai (Esther s guardian) refused to bow down and pay homage to Haman a
high official of the king. Haman becomes infuriated and plots to destroy all the Jews in the
kingdom because of his pride. Mordecai hears of the plot and reports it to his Esther. For if you
remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place and you
and your father s house will perish. And who knows whether you have not attained royalty for such
a time as this?

The Definition Of Obscenity And Obscenity Laws Constructed...
Obscenity revolves around what constitutes pornography and sexually explicit material to be
protected by the First Amendment rights of freedom of speech and press as stated in the
Constitution. I want to look at the language and definitions of obscenity created by the Supreme
Court and interrupt their effects on society. In this essay, I want to argue that the creation of the
definition of obscenityand obscenity laws constructed from community standards can be harmful to
society because they can be interrupted in many different ways. First, I would like to define terms
of what obscenity means and the differences between obscenity, vulgarity, and profanity. Obscenity,
as defined by the Supreme Court case of Miller v. California, believed... Show more content on

In a legal context, obscenity describes expressions that are typically sexual or crude references to
the body or bodily functions that offend the sexual morality of a given time and place. Even though,
this creates a gray are between something considered profane or vulgar language and/or behavior
and obscenity because profanity and vulgarity can offend the sexual morality as well. Nonetheless,
the First Amendment of the Constitution does not protect behavior, actions, or language seen
specifically as obscene.
Next, I would like to explore at what point or context does something turn from being considered
profane and/or vulgar into being considered obscene and therefore, against the law. In Roth v. US,
the court held that obscenity was not within the area of constitutionally protected speech or press .
The Supreme Court made it clear in the ruling that the First Amendment did not protect every
behavior, action, or expression, such as materials that were utterly without redeeming social
importance . The Supreme Court believed the definition of obscenity as stated in the above
paragraph gave a fair warning to the public and satisfied the demands of the Due Process clause in
the Fourteenth Amendment. The Supreme Court wanted to ensure to the public that an individual
couldn t be deprived of life, liberty and property without

The Visual Arts, Technology, And Philosophy
One may wonder how much did The Information Age really contribute to society and, more
specifically, the visual arts, technology, and philosophy. The Information Age, as defined by Gloria
K. Fiero, is dominated by radical changes in the technology of communication and the way we
receive and process information (Fiero, 476). The Information Age paved the way for several
brilliant artists to not only share their work, but create their work. Artists, such as Andy Warhol,
expressed their artistic abilities in the most unimaginable, yet creative approaches. In the case of
Andy Warhol, Warhol created pop art, which artistically expresses popular culture in means of
creating a compelling commercial advertisement. Furthermore, in the realm of... Show more content

One of the artists responsible for video art would be Nam June Paik. Nam June Paik is a Korean
artist and musician; Paik was known for assembling television sets to create a rapid fire
assortment of animated and live video images drawn from East and West, additionally, Paik s
idea allowed for the creation of the jumbotron, which now allows to host several events close up
(Fiero, 493). Moreover, total art is the work of art itself (Fiero, 492). Total art is far from being
considered traditional art, yet it is rather creative and gives insight as to how the product is
secondary compared to the process of creating art. Total art is expressed in the form of
performance and ritual. Additionally, total art can take several different forms such as raves, flash
mobs, and basically any moment that an individual would describe as art. Furthermore, Pop art is
more of an extension of traditional art, yet the art is expressed in a manner that grabs the attention
of an individual witnessing the painting. Pop art seems simplistic, however, pop art also seems to
be loud and eye piercing. Andy Warhol, the artist behind the creation of pop art, received the idea of
pop art through his experiences as a commercial artist. Since western consumerism seamlessly
began to expand, Warhol gave advertisements more life and personality in order to capture the
attention of the audience. Without artistic freedom and willingness to accept the

Comparing The Gospels Of Mark And Matthew
The Gospels of Mark and Matthew give us details of the ministry, death and resurrection of Jesus.
Mark focuses on Jesus being a servant, healer, teacher and miracle worker. Matthew focuses on
Jesus as the Messiah of the New Law . Both gospels are to encourage Christians and give them
strength to build their faith. Jesusis using his disciples in both gospels to show that we all sin, are
afraid and turn away from God but through the love and sacrifice of Jesus we are forgiven. The
two gospels are telling the same story with different points to view and a few differences.
Both Mark and Matthew give us story of the baptism of Jesus, the choosing of the disciples, the
journey to Jerusalem, the healings, the miracles, the ministry, the death, and resurrection of Jesus.
One important similarity is the Parables of Jesus that both gospels go into detail about. The
parables are stories from Jesus that teach us how to live, love, and most importantly how to grow
spiritually. To you has been given the secret of the kingdom of God, but for those outside
everything is in parables, so that they may indeed see but not perceive, and may indeed hear but
not understand, lest they should turn and be forgiven. (Mark 4:11 12 ESV)

much of our society today has disbelief, hate, animosity, selfish desires, anger, idolism and greed

have that eternal relationship with God. It is very heartbreaking to see that so many are lost but

Causes Of The Fabian Movement
The economic climate of the latter half of the 19th century was one of upheaval. London was quite
influenced by several socialist thinkers during this time including Karl Marx. Marx passed away in
1883, leaving behind many radical socialists who influenced the burgeoning Fabian Movement.
H.M. Hyndman and Henry George were two important figures who wrote pivotal pieces of
literature. Henry George published Progress and Povertyin 1879 and greatly influenced many of the
socialists who came into the Fabian Society (Fremantle, 1961, p.20). Two years later, H.M.
Hyndman wrote England for All and later that year went on to found the Democratic Federation
(later called the Social Democratic Federation) (Fremantle, 1961, p. 22). Both George and
Hyndman were fans of Marx and believed in his violent revolutionary ideology yet, what helped
form the Fabians was their dislike of this particular tenet.
Laissez faire Liberalism and its twin Capitalism were major sources of disproval for the
individuals who would go on to create the Fabian Society in 1884. Laissez faire liberalism was
seen to be the source of much unrest and unhappiness among the impoverished in the world. They
saw the system of Capitalism to be an oppressive, tyrannical system. W.L. Phillips, the Society s
only working class member said the following, The workers must and will shake off their blind
faith in the Commercial god Competition, and realize the responsibility of their unused powers
(Pugh, 1984, p. 5).

The Nuclear Reactors At Chernobyl
Abstract The disaster at Chernobyl in 1986 is one that should not be forgotten due to its heavy
impacts on society not just locally, but also globally. The incident serves as a perfect example of the
importance of engineers and the government acting ethically. From the start, the engineers
designing the nuclear reactors at Chernobyl failed to act with integrity by not concerning
themselves with the health or welfare of the local community. Their lack of safety systems that
were common place in other reactors across the world inevitably caused the death of thousands of
people in the former USSR. Additionally, certain design errors committed by the engineers left the
reactor unstable during simple, frequent tests and experiments. The USSR... Show more content on

All these mistakes eventually led to the unnecessary loss of civilian lives in the local area in
addition to massive amounts of radiation being released into the environment and atmosphere.
I.INTRODUCTION
Engineering ethical disasters occur when engineers overlook the guidelines given to them and
make mistakes. Engineers are the people who design everything from cars to the space shuttles,
and failures can not only take lives, but also have huge political and economic impacts lasting
decades. An example of this is the Chernobyl disaster. This happened because of mistakes that
could have been avoided if the engineers had acted ethically. Chernobyl had a terrible impact on
the surrounding area and created deep seeded fear in both people that were affected and people
that watched from afar. Chernobyl is considered an ethical disaster because of the deceptiveness
of the USSR government, the engineer s inability to keep the public s safety as a number one
priority, and because some of the engineers were acting outside of their areas of expertise.
II.OVERVIEW
The Chernobyl disaster occurred on April 26th, 1986 in the southwestern Soviet Union in modern
day Ukraine. Chernobyl was a town that the USSR chose as a site to build a nuclear power plant
containing four operating RBMK reactors. These particular Soviet designed reactors were natural
uranium fueled, water cooled, and graphite moderated [1]. Engineers at

Paleolithic And Neolithic Similarities
The Paleolithic Era and the Neolithic Era had many similarities and differences. The Paleolithic
Era was known as the old stone age, it stated on 2,000,000 BCE. After the Paleolithic Era came the
Neolithic Era which was also known as the new stone age. The people that live during the
Paleolithic Era where nomads which meant they moved around to gather their food. The paleolithic
Era people hunted and gathered their food. However, during the NeolithicEra the people knew how
to farm and domesticate their plants and animals. This allowed the Neolithic Era people to be
sedentary and stay in permanent villages. The Neolithic people also went out hunting for their

Epiphany In Hamlet
So I had an epiphany. Actually, that s not quite the right word. An epiphany is a moment of sudden
clarity, but mine was anything but sudden. It rolled in slowly and started to unfold itself, like it was
doing its morning stretch.
Yesterday, I was in London with my son. We decided to go ahead and catch the opening of Hamlet
,
at the Royal National Theatre. Written by William Shakespeare, the play illustrates the difficulties
we ll encounter in our lives. Shakespeare does this through the characters, soliloquies, and allusions
to the theme of madness. Whilst we were watching the play, my son whispered in my ear, claiming
that Hamlet reminded him of Tupac. At first I dismissed it as ridiculous, but then I thought about it.
Perhaps he was right. Are these two seemingly different people somewhat related?... Show more

Is Hamlet like Tupac? Tupac also saw this, and nothing proves this more than the song Changes.
In this song, Tupac shows the themes of appearance vs reality, revenge and morality. Like
Hamlet throughout the play, the song challenges the rules set by culture and works towards
justice. These show how hard life is to be an underprivileged Black man in the United States,
with a kindness on issues with police cruelty. This follows Hamlets theme of appearance vs
reality as from the outside it may look as though racism is no longer a factor as laws have
changed and the systemic oppression of minorities is no more. And I m sure as you may have
heard, we had a black president! Therefore everything is magically fixed. As the song develops,
Tupac makes simple as people sometimes wish it could be, and that people must get used to these
new environments. Similar to the motif of change seen in Hamlet. Tupac expresses how simple it
is for people to buy weapons and kill other people. How in times of change we result to fighting
and killing. Like Shakespeare, Tupac uses allusion to illustrate that madness is not a good way to
find the meanings to an

Dis Engagement Theory And The Active Theory
Within this essay I am going to talk about the two theories which are the dis engagement theory
and the active theory these two theories are for and against each other and also argue which theory
is best suited for adult s life and development.
Socio Dis engagement theory shows that the ageing claims that elderly people are disengaged from
society and social role models due to their inevitability of death. However disengagement theorists
have said that that elderly people begin to disengage themselves from previous social groups
realising that they will die in the near future. Moreover the people from the dis engagement theories
were one of the first theorists of ageing that were developed and acknowledged by social scientist.
These theories were developed and processed by Elaine Cumming and Warren Earl Henry in 1961.
Therefore the dis engagement theory of ageing have stated that you cannot stop age it is inevitable
(Robert Havighurst)
In addition the views of disengagement theory views their ageing as a mutual withdrawal that the
process between ageing person and the social system of which they belong such as gradual
withdrawal from society. However the theory viewed that this theory is positive and right way for
elderly because it is an age increased reflection that helps self decreased emotional investment in
people and events. They also believe that adults isolate themselves from society and think that it
will not affect them through their li9fe stages. They also

Voltaire s Use Of Satire In Candide
Mr. Boni chose this book for our class in order to provide us with a first hand example of the
views of the Enlightenment period philosopher, Voltaire. Throughout Candide, Voltaire s well
known satire, we are exposed to his sharp witted criticisms of the church, nobility, religion, and
philosophy. Using misfortune as well as comic relief, Candide, holds the interest of its readers
while educating them in Enlightened views. For the use of our current studies, this novel is a

it is surrounded. It represents the author s unabridged view on mankind s lack of necessary

Voltaire satirizes numerous social norms of his time using recurring themes throughout the novel.
With his every present sardonic writing, Voltaire addresses issues regarding religion, social
structure, women s rights, and unrelenting optimism. He ridicules religion for its corruption and
intolerance. No religion went unscathed as Voltaire took shots at many of the main sects of religion
including Protestantism, Catholicism, and Anabaptism. He also took shots at elitist nobility and the
unfair women s rights of the time, using irony to show the uselessness of the unjust systems and
privileges (or lack thereof). In addition, Voltaire made light work of philosophical optimism, an
idea highly popularized by German theorist Gottfried Wilhelm von Leibnitz. It was thought that
God created a perfect world and therefore, God would not cause anything to happen if not for a

What Is the Real Cost of Employee Turnover
What Is the Real Cost Of Employee Turnover
The employee turnover rate and the retention of skilled employees is a major problem businesses
face. Conservative estimates put the cost of replacing a lost employee at 25 percent of the annual
compensation amount. For the typical full time employee who earns $38,481 and receives $50,025
in total compensation, the total cost of turnover would amount to $12,506 per employee. This
being the case employee turnover is a major cost and can significantly influence the bottom line so
it should be avoided if possible. (Bliss)
Employee turnover is a critical cost driver for American business. The cost of recruiting and filling
vacancies, lost productivity from vacant jobs, and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Turnover also creates opportunities for advancement. Companies in no growth situations need
turnover to open slots for high performers who are ready to advance. (Javitch) Perhaps the most
positive effect of turnover concerns the nature of human capital itself. Turnover allows companies
to re tool and replenish their workforces, and to prevent stagnation. New ideas, new capabilities,
new experience from the outside are generally required if an organization hopes to remain
competitive.
In closing I will say, you need to look at all the factors before forming an opinion of what the cost
of employee turnover is in each situation. If the employee would be better off in another
company or if your company would be better, off without the employee you are facing a positive
situation and the financial impact may be a small sacrifice. However, if the employee is a true
asset to your company it may be worth your time to try to sway him or her to rethink their decision
to leave.
The true cost of employee turnover can only be determined by weighing all the facts and looking
at how it impacts your organization. You need to look at all the factors, monetary as well as
organizationally to determine if the outcome was negative or positive.

American Imperialism In The Gilded Age
The late 1800s were a time of great industrialization and economic development in America. But a
look behind the gold plating of the Gilded Age reveals everything from ruthless imperialism to anti
competitive business practices hiding behind. Perhaps most importantly, the so called Gilded Age
saw the establishment of a strong capitalistic class system in America under the doctrines of Social
Darwinism. While the era s technological and industrial advancements undoubtedly raised the U.S.
economy to the level of a world power, the corrupt and unethical practices tolled an enormous cost
on American society.
It was during the Gilded Age that the concepts of the upper class and urban poor became entrenched

Their imperialistic hunger for new territories to exploit once again, for the benefit of the few, at the
expense of the many led to the United States unconstitutional not to mention unethical conquering
of islands across the Pacific. While public statements like the Monroe Doctrine denounced
European involvement in the Americas, the United States did not hesitate to use any opportunity
to seize control of these possessions itself, supporting foreigners in overthrowing native
governments, going so far as to denounce native ways of life (notably absent of capitalism) as
foolish. Instead of grasping all he can get, he divides with his neighbor, and confidently expects his

Many historians today admire the great strides of economic and geopolitical advancements led

My Life Of Sports
Sports are a substainsal part of my life. As a person, I am very competitive and I love watching
sports almost as much as I love playing them. My two main athletic passions are softball and

from the field ever since. I love the fast pace of the game, every at bat is exhilarating, and I
always am hoping the ball will come to me on defense. I have met many of my best friends
through softball, and I love the opportunity to be able to work and play a team sport with amazing
people and friends. Along with softball, I also enjoy basketballand football. My basketball career

always kind of wished I could play football, but I enjoy watching the Packers and Broncos, and

for an abundance of memories and years of fun.
My other, more uncommon sport I compete in is baton twirling. Twirling is a rare and complex
sport that not many compete in, and for that reason, I am known to some as that twirler girl .

over the past 12 months. They have demanded a full investigation on their workplace management
systems. ShowTime events have subsequently outgrown some of their information management
practices, total system managements have identified four areas that need attention. These four
areas are: The organisation has a number of branches and each branch is individually
responsible for its own marketing, clients and accounts. However, information is transferred
from branch to branch when similar events are organised. One branch has recently moved to a
bigger building to obtain more space for storage of files. Staff have been accessing files through
the use of other staff s computers. To save other employees from having to log on. ShowTime
Events frequently have a large volume of mail outs of advertising material. The overflow of work
is completed by engaging temporary staff, often inexperienced, from a local employment agency.
One temporary employee recently deleted, by accident, an important document from the computer.
The changeover to a new version of a software package last year resulted in the loss of a number of
files on the computer hard drive. These files are irrecoverable. Accountability and Management

Studying Moral Philosophy
Every person at least once in his life felt that he has done something wrong or even immoral, and
was encouraged to change his behavior. Even as a child many of us were constantly told: Think
about your behavior! This reminder helps realize that one of the most powerful determinants of
human behavior stems from our need to justify our actions. This feeling of discomfort caused by
performing a certain action is called cognitive dissonance. However, sometimes justification of our
actions, caused by cognitive dissonance, leads to the thought: Who decided what is right or
wrong? or in other words: What and where is the perfect example of living a moral life? Studying
moral philosophyshows us that people hold different worldviews that contain different models of
moral justification. Based on the analysis of two philosophies, naturalism and theism, this paper
argues that theism provides a better framework for making sense of moralityand living a moral live,
because it has more explanatory power regarding the notion of free will that people have.
Naturalism mainly is though as a type of scientism, which implies that only things recognized by
scientists as real are real. Although, there are many naturalists who hold this particular view, it is
not the necessary feature of naturalism. Basically, naturalism can be divided into two components:
metaphysical and methodological. The first one is often referred as philosophical naturalism and it
is the one covered in this

The Influence Of Abraham Lincoln On The Mexican American War
Abraham Lincoln opposed the Mexican American War, since he argued it was unnecessary and
unconstitutional. He questioned the U.S. president s honesty and even accuses the president s
justification to be from beginning to end, the sheerest deception. Furthermore, he criticizes the
president for supporting the war with arguments and not facts. He also bashes on the president s
mentality on a personal level. Moreover, Abraham Lincoln argues that President Polk is lying
about the initial cause of the war in which the casualties took place. 2)What evidence does Lincoln
use to support his anti war argument? First and foremost, Lincoln is skeptical about Mexicans
shedding American blood on American soil. He examined the president s war... Show more content

1)Thesis (What is the author s main argument in the article). Gregg Cantrell informs the reader
that Stephen F. Austin is a very complex individual who is taken out of context. Stephen F. Austin
is a human being who is misunderstood by many and is seen as a racist, invader of land, and a
white supremacist, since he was a proponent of the Manifest Destiny. Furthermore, he believed that
his mission was to spread the American ways such as enterprise and intelligence. People mistook
his declarations and blew them out of proportion. For this reason, he was also seem as pro
American chauvinism when he made a negative statement about the Catholic Church. However,
when a person views Stephen F. Austin whole story, it is very different from the one they
acclimated to. Austin, served as a political and cultural mediator between Anglo Texans and
Mexicans. Furthermore, he was a person who wanted personal success, but also had a strong sense
of public responsibility. 2)Evidence (What evidence does the author use to support the thesis of the
article.) Stephen F. Austin s title was empresario, which means entrepreneur, a person who has been
granted to recruit settlers, issued land titles, enforce the laws and take responsibility for new
settlers. Austin learned to speak fluent Spanish, conducted business in Spanish, and was personally
acquainted with a host of major Mexican leaders.

Similarities Between As I Lay Dying And For Whom The Bell...
In their very nature, we can see that these two novels vary greatly in purpose, structure, and the
way that they convey their messages. Although this is true, they make up for this when we
examine the motives of the authors and certain ways that the authors convey messages. Ernest
Hemingway and William Faulkner grew up and developed their opinions in far different ways.
Hemingway was heavily affected by his experiences in World War I
and the Spanish Civil War.
These events greatly influenced Hemingway s ideas about war in For Whom the Bell Tolls (5).
Conversely, Faulkner grew up in the deep south of Mississippi, and his life in the south heavily
influenced his writing of As I Lay Dying (4). The two authors and their stories may vary, but these...

One of the most central character relationships in both surrounds hostility between characters
that should otherwise be friends. In As I Lay Dying, this situation is shown through the
relationship between Jewel and Darl, and also through the relationship between Anse and Addie.
In For Whom the Bell Tolls, we see a similar relationship between Pablo and Robert Jordan. The
hostility that these character have for one another is rooted in a lack of trust. Addie is hostile to
Anse because she believes that Anse manipulated her into having children, without truly loving
her. Darl is hostile to Jewel because Jewel was Addie s favorite child, and Darl believes that
Jewel was unfairly given love (so he chooses not to trust Jewel). Robert Jordan lacks trust for
Pablo because he believes that Pablo will betray the him and the Republic. This hostility
between characters is also similar in the fact the we do not always know the reasoning or the
outcome of hostility. For the entire first half of the novel, we do not know why Addie acted the
way that she did, and for the same reason, why Darl treated Jewel the way that he did. We will
never know how much Robert Jordan s hostility for Pablo affected the story. Perhaps Robert
Jordan would have gone on to live a happy life had he not disrupted the flow of the group. The
similar way in which hostility between characters is depicted shows a great similarity between
the novels, but we can also see a great contrast in the way love is shown. The love that Maria and
Robert Jordan have in For Whom the Bell Tolls is depicted as very free and open, while Addie
refuses to love anyone but Jewel in her family, because she was betrayed and Anse only said, and
did not show, that he loved her. This contrast might be shown as a difference, but the opposite
appears to be true. The love that Maria and Robert have is really

Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge Reality
Everyone can say they have fallen into a deep sleep and have had a series of thoughts, images,
and sensations occur in their mind. We often times combine elements to stimulate emotions in a
more advanced way. Many can say they have awoken in terror, or never wanted the thought to
end. But can you recognize reality from fantasy? There is much to wonder in the world of sleep
and daydreaming. Neural bustle in the primary sensory areas of the neocortex (a part of the
cerebral cortex concerned with sight and hearing in mammals, regarded as the most recently
evolved part of the cortex.) create the premonition of a sensory perception: the production of a
dream. The elaborate detail and imagery make it strenuous to identify what is reality. For in... Show

Bierce uses symbolism combined with irony, vivid details, and similes to build a mood.
Symbolism plays a salient effect in that it builds a mood. The bridge and the driftwood are the two
most vital symbols in the story. Through the symbolism irony is created, setting the situation
differently than anticipated. Peyton Farquhar, a civilian, passionate about the Southern cause was
tricked by an union scout, and drawn to the bridge where a Union blockade was stationed. A
bridge can be used to exemplify the bringing of two parts to unify them as one. The irony
associated with the symbolism of the bridge did not represent the bringing of both the Northern and

Benefits Of Genetically Modified Organisms ( Gmos ) Essay
Life on earth began approximately 3.5 billion years ago and, since the rapid diversification of
most major living phyla (known as The Cambrian Explosion), evolution has given rise to an
extraordinarily diverse range of life forms. Evolution has resulted in various species with a wide
range of traits, each with the potential to be utilized by human kind. By modifying these organisms
through cross breeding and artificial selection to create crops with desirable traits, the agriculture
industry has found a way to produce essential food crops and a way to feed the world .
In the 1970s, Morrow et al. developed a technique that allowed them to cut DNA from one
organism and splice it with the DNA of another and thus modern biotechnology was born. Today,
it is possible to sidestep the relatively slow process of evolution by modifying genes of plants and
animals in the lab. Presently, such modifications allow for pest and herbicide resistance; faster crop
production; more nutritious food sources; and even disease resistance .
Despite these purported benefits of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs), there is
considerable debate surrounding their use. In the public sphere, beliefs concerning GMO tend to
be dominated by two markedly opposing narratives and it seems that one can only be in one of two
camps:
I.Critics of GMO: Arguing that the use of GMO is not justified as it is unnatural, unsafe, and may
have long term environmental impacts.
II.Advocates of GMO: Arguing that

African American Male Self Esteem Essay
African American men s experiences of racism are believed to contribute to low self esteem
(Utsey, Ponterotto, Reynolds, Cancelli, 2000). Yet researchers have found evidence that suggests
African Americans explicit self esteem is equal to that of members of non stigmatized groups
(Crocker Major, 1989). In contrast to explicit self esteem, implicit self esteem is a spontaneous,
automatic, and unconscious evaluation of one s own worth (Baccus, Baldwin, Packer, 2004). In
addition, it is thought that social behavior operates in an unconscious manner (Baccus et al.,
2004). As a result, the question of whether it is mainly implicit self esteem that influences social
behavior has been raised and researched (Bosson, Brown, Zeigler Hill, Swann, 2003). However,
the role of implicit self esteem as an influence of social behavior for African Americanmen is
lacking a significant amount of empirical research.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, some of these coping strategies have been found to be maladaptive (Utsey et al., 2000).
Maladaptive behaviors are actions or tendencies that hinder an individual from adjusting to
situations (Weiss, 1999). Maladaptive behavior can range from minor to severe behaviors that are
tolerable and safe to behaviors that are disruptive, dysfunctional and harmful to the individual
(Weiss, 1999). Additionally, maladaptive behaviors are formed as a way of coping with emotional
and mental discomfort as well as anxiety, but the actions typically result in a compounding of the
problem. Examples of maladaptive behavior include substance abuse, attention seeking behavior,
perfectionism, materialism, and sex addiction (Weiss, 1999; Rice Lopez,

The Revolution Will Not Be Televised Summary
The Revolution Will Not Be Televised is a poem written by Gil Scott Heron. This poem was
released in the 1970 s. During these years the country was just getting past segregation and the
racial tension was still high. As a result, the government was filled with even more iniquity than it
is today. Therefore, black peoplewere fed up with this mistreatment and because of that they began
to riot. Blindly, people would refer to these riots and televised actions as the revolution, but it wasn

poem Gil Scott Heron is conveying exactly that. Revolution is something that happens within a
person and cannot be seen by human eyes. What human eyes see is the result of the revolution of
what is inside of them. While Scott Heron is talking about the revolution he also mentions popular

Morality In The Road
The Road is an interesting novel that has added to my perspective of morality and how it is
explored in literature. Many books talk about morality, some are specifically about this topic but
most tend to integrate moral questions into their plot. The Road differs in many ways from other
books that explore moral questions. The Road s plot has less action than many books, lending
more of its pages to deeper discussions of moralityafter each event. When exploring the topic of the
frailty of morality many books came at the topic in different ways. The stories that explored this
topic the most were not apocalypse stories, but rather dystopian ones. One common thread to many
of these stories is the journey to a goal, where that journey strains the... Show more content on

Having smaller characters may seem to take away from a story but it actually adds to the
narrative. The man and boy s goal isn t to save the world, they are just focused on survival. In
Invisible Man, the main character is fighting for equality and to change an entire system. In V
for Vendetta, V manages to collapse the government while accepting the inevitable deaths that
will result. By making The Road smaller in scale, the decisions the characters make and the
effects are more detailed, personal and thought provoking. The characters are not on a journey
that must succeed for the greater good. They must face the morality of their actions without
being able to hide behind how important their quest is. At one point in The Road the man kills a
scavenger to save his son s life. This is justified and most stories would pass over this as a
necessary action. Later, after traveling many miles away from where the incident happened, the
boy asks the father if they are still the good guys (p. 77). By making the characters no more
important than anyone else, actions become harder to defend and need to be addressed in more
detail. In many stories spending so much time on the morality of something that is done and can t
be changed would seem out of place. The Road does not give excuses for the characters actions
and always has the

The late twentieth century and early twenty first century trends towards the continuing integration
of the world economy have attracted the attention of geographers who seek to assess the impacts
that globalization processes have at various geographic scales.1 The banana has a rich history of
globalization, and for this reason, this essay will explore the commodity chain that shows the
trajectory that the banana takes in order to be produced in the Caribbean, Latin America and
elsewhere, then transported through the sea, next entering grocery stores throughout the world and

By 1993, the Banana Empire ceased to exist due to Panama Disease, ongoing labour issues, the rise
of new competition and the increased assertiveness of host country governments all contributed to
the growing intricacy of the industry. Nowadays, the modern banana farmer has been exposed to
many pesticides, which have led to adverse health conditions for the majority of workers but
working conditions and wages are on the rise currently. The introduction of fair tradebananas in
2004 was fundamental in bettering the working conditions for farmers and labourers.
Chiquita, the oldest banana transnational in Latin America was the primary target of banana worker

Rainforest Alliance to roll out the Alliance s standards to its banana farms in Latin America.6
Chiquita prides itself on its recent changes, which have involved revamping the company to
promote The Chiquita Difference ; this includes a philosophy of social responsibility, sustainability,
community involvement and food safety.7 These changes arose from the use of political activism
by consumers in response to poor workers rights, thus exemplifying the fact that people do realize

job which gives him courage to change the world with his work in serving justice. Although the
case of Tom Robinson trial against Myela Ewell was sprung on him and he knew their chances

Comparing A Streetcar Named Desire And A View From The Bridge

French Culture Research Paper
1. What did you learn about the culture?
From doing this first assignment project, I learned how focused the French culture is on art and
how involved it is in their everyday lives. Art can come in so many forms in the French culture, a
few being paintings, sketches, sculpting, and making music. As well as this, I learned about
Impressionism which is a form of art that specifically came from the French culture in the 1870s
and the 1880s. This form of art was created by a group of Impressionists whom were all French.
Lastly, I learned how the French culture is full of elegance and love, which is also displayed
through their artwork as well.

Reading Literature Makes Us Smarter And Nicer By Annie...
In the article Reading Literature Makes Us Smarter and Nicer by Annie Murphy Paul (2013) the
author admonishes that deep reading increases our capacity of empathy on real life situations. Paul
acknowledges the argument that Gregory Currie, professor of philosophy at the University of
Nottingham says about how there is no evidence that people become morally/socially better for
reading great books. However, Paul continues to support that reading enhances our way of life and
understandingof individuals. Deep reading affects our way of culture, understanding, and knowledge
in a positive way.
By reading books and becoming engaged in them, it gives the reader a new sense of an ecstatic
experience as Paul states. If a reader is enjoying a book, thy will take their time to read it and
become deep in reflection of their own self. They can connect the ideas from a book to their own
lives, and even establish some opinions of their own on what they are reading, which improves
our culture as a society. By encouraging other people to read, and young people to read earlier,
they can have a finer chance to acquire the skill of spiritual reading. In today s society, many

Bhagavad Gita By Stephen Mitchell
Bhagavad Gita
The author Stephen Mitchell reflects on a scripture titled Bhagavad Gita . This scripture is a new
translation based on ancient Hinduism. Throughout the scripture, it explains the teachings that can
be used in an everyday life situation. Its diverse audience can learn how to face different
dilemmas, and how to live in this world with happiness and peace by doings ones duties. It also
helps the audience understand the true purpose of life. For those who go through the encounters of
life educating themselves with perfection, knowledge, and intelligence, they are considered God
dearest devotees. Overall, the scripture assures that God will respond to his devotees with love. Its
teachings focus on those who are suffering and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the second teaching Bhagavad Gita talks about is the three Gunas. Their names are
Sattva, Rajas, and Tamas. Sattva is known as pure happiness and knowledge. It helps us free
from all sinful reactions that can later lead to happiness and knowledge. Rajas are known to be
full of passion with intense desires. It helps us control our selfish desires. Tamas is known to be
the darkness, and crudeness. They are the ones who are born with ignorance, and madness.
Higher worlds are Sattva, middle worlds are rajas, and lower worlds are tamas. Each of the three
Gunas tries to have higher power, and overpower one another. Our souls are known to be
influenced by them. They are responsible for the behavior of all living things. The goal of the
three Gunas is to create a bondage through desires. Understanding the three Gunas helps a devotee
overcome their battles to accomplish perfection, and help us with complying with our duties. All
three are responsible to get rid of desire actions in all beings. Instead of just putting these practices
into use we should go beyond our own expectations. The one who is successful with all three
Gunas is a qualified devotee. Therefore, we must begin our journey into this world.
Another teaching the Bhagavad Gita offers is stability of mind. Knowing our own mind can help
us understand the world we are living in, react to problems, and make sure we can change them to
ensure survival. This can help us with challenging decisions,

The Current Challenges With Curriculum Of South Africa
Introduction
In this essay I will state the current challenges with curriculum of South Africa, and what impact it
has on me as a student teacher and my future as a teacher of South Africa. I will state implications
of integrating the curriculum in the class and what it means to transfer the curriculum to the
learners in my class.
My essay will be based upon a critical rationalism philosophical perspective. And based upon my
own world view.
According to (Smith, 2015) critical rationalism also known as scientific rationalism is being
referred to as a philosophy that encourages open mindedness, which means that critical rationalism
is anti dogmatic and anti authoritarian. Its states according to (Smith, 2015) that critical rationalism
is completely against societies where people cannot speak their minds freely and discuss things
openly.
I will also discuss my own opinion on critical rationalism and what it means to me.

According to (Anon., 2009) South Africa has a high cost, low performance education system that
does not compare favorably with education systems in other African countries, or in similar
developing economies. There are multiple challenges facing the South African education system,
challenges such as a shortage of teachers, under qualified teachers and a poor teacher performance.
When introducing the curriculum to the learners these challenges cause a lot of implications such
as poor learner standards and results. These challenges are usually

How Does Capote Describe The Town Holcomb
Although, Capote writes about a monumental murder he focuses in on how graceful Holcomb is
before the murder; therefore, Capote verbalizes even if a town is safe it can be threatening
anywhere. Capote uses literary devices such as anaphora to describe the town Holcomb to give
readers a comprehension on how Holcomb acted before the chaos began. In the beginning of the
book Capote reports Holcomb town as, Like the waters of the river, like the motorists on the
highway, and like the yellow streaking down the Santa Fe tracks, drama, in the shape of
exceptional happenings, has never stopped there (Capote 5). Life in Holcomb was as if the town
had its own little world and nothing from the outside mattered. Holcomb was just a small, quiet
town in the middle of nowhere. Capote wants people to know how separated Holcomb town was
and how one big murder could matter so much.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Capote states, The land is flat, and the views are awesomely extensive; horses, herds of cattle, a
white cluster of grain elevators rising as gracefully as Greek temples are visible long before a
traveler reaches them (Capote 3). Truman Capote is referring back to the Greek temples a time
period where there was big difficulties, which led the Greeks to a downfall. Capote first
mentions how graceful the Greeks are to let the readers know it was very peaceful there before
chaos. By comparing Holcomb town to the Greek civilization Capote lets his readers know
something is coming, it will go from peaceful to dangerous. From the look of Holcomb it seems as
though it is safe, but once entered into the town, family s will see how crazy it really

What Activity During Oocyte Activation Prevents...
What activity during oocyte activation prevents penetration by additional sperm?
There are to methods consisting of an electrical block and mechanical block, which prevents
penetration of additional sperms during oocyte activation. Electrical block involves the absences of
fertilization (the oocyte contains a negative charge within and the sperm a positive charge). For
instance, if an oocyte comes into contact with a sperm the negative charge within the oocyte
changes to positive resulting any other sperms from penetrating the oocyte since the repulsive
forces between like charges. However, a mechanical block operates primarily in mammals and
other animals such as endoplasmic reticulum. The calcium ion stimulates the vesicles to undertake
exocytosis of molecules from cortical granules modifying the extracellular membranes such as the
vitelline membrane and the zona pellucida to harden preventing polyspermy, therefore, resulting
in creating a barrier against ruther sperm penetration. However, in mammals the first sperm to
enter into the egg; the cortical granules found in the cortex of the egg secretes a serine protease
allowing it to shift its properties of the membrane of the zona pellucida typically the layer found
outside the plasma membrane. The protease grinds up the proteins and function as a receptor in
binding a sperm (i.e. ZP3 glycoproteins and ZP2) as well as the ones that adhere the cell membrane
to the vitelline envelope. The secreted molecules consist of

The United States And The Sharing Economy
The United States has serious labor market challenges as a result of rising wage inequality
between people and the slow middle class wage growth. The need to provide individuals with
variety of goods, service and information raise specific economic phenomena called sharing
economy . This model of economy includes different types of industry categories: sharing
information (YouTube), property (Airbnb), transportation (Uber) and more. The sharing economy
works in the same way as a traditional market, where individuals exchange different goods and
service. The central concept of sharing economy (collaborative consumption) is the access to the
goods. The application of regulation is the major issue with this type of innovated economy. The
sharing economy is a nontraditional, because the workers luck of benefits and the type of
economical market system that creates an income and job opportunity. On the other hand this
type of market provides a different type of benefits as: flexible schedule and employment; saving
energy and less waste; self regulation; lower costs of the product. The context is of a great interest
since participation in sharing communities and services is characterized by obligation to do good
for other people and for the environment, such as sharing, and engaging in sustainable behavior
(Prothero et al, 2011). The challenge of any market includes and market of sharing economy is to
ensure the supply and demand. Specifically for the sharing market is the way

Edna St. Vincent Millay s Sonnet I, Being Born a Woman...
Edna St. Vincent Millay s Sonnet I, Being Born a Woman and Distressed
Edna St. Vincent Millay s sonnet, I, Being Born a Woman and Distressed, serves as an excellent
example of a multi faceted piece. From one angle, it is simply a Petrarchan sonnet, written with a
slight variation on rhyme scheme but that variation, taken deeper, reveals new layers of meaning.
Added to Millay s choice of meter and end stop, along with a background of Millay s person, this
sonnet seems not so simple after all.
Millay, though she married in 1923, was known to have extramarital affairs, purportedly with both
women and men. (wikipedia.com) In the context of this particular sonnet, such seems revealing

In Wordsworth s sonnet, he uses only the four rhymes to show that, even in constraining himself,
he is still free. He may be confined to a cell or a rhyme scheme, but it is in such confinements that
he finds liberty. Millay, too, is playing off of this idea simply by being a woman she is confined by
society, but through her poetry she can recognized for the brilliant writer she is; hence, she quite
literally frees her poetic reputation by constraining herself to such strict bounds. The irony in this
reference to Wordsworth s work, however, is the contrasting subject matters he writes of
metaphorical nuns, while she writes of rejection and lovers.
The second interpretation of Millay s constrained rhyme scheme is a fair bit simpler. Her choice
of words throughout the work is calm and cool distanced from the audience. There is none of the
anger that usually accompanies a lovers breakup; Millay is reserved, restraining her emotions. This
translates through to her rhyme scheme, which is also reserved. Here, she pulls back both from her
lover, and from tradition.
The sonnet s meter, on the other hand, is a bit more erratic, and betrays more feeling. Most of the
piece is in a steady iambic pentameter, but it varies four times just after the turn (line 8) of the
sonnet. Three of

Americ Land Of The Free, And Home
America: land of the free, and home of the brave. People have often traveled long and far to live in
a safe, and esteemed environment, when in reality the core values of America change as time goes
by. Even though Americans often value individualism, patriotism, nationalism, and individual
liberty, history has proven otherwise. Wars, social norms, rightsrestrictions, expectations and peer
pressure have gotten in the way of the values that many believed highlighted America. The saying,
history repeats itself has haunted the future of America greatly. As the years go by, individual
freedom is minimized, and citizens are slowly conned into the conformist society that many live in
today. The definition of success in itself has changed for the worse; changing from knowledge and
efficiency to materialism and wealth. Even though many have become prominent victims of
conformity and have been deprived of their individual rights in the past, the American value of
patriotism, individual liberty and individualismshould stand strong in the hearts of Americans now
and in the near future. Americans in the past have developed a strong attachment to promoting their
love for their country. In this decade, national pride has increased dramatically. From billboards to
bumper stickers outlining America s greatness, to national anthems being sung at each and every
game. Citizens value their love and devotion to the extent of it being perceived as wrong.

Comparing Obasan And Naomi s Road
The Differences Between Adults and Children Life is so short, the past so long. Shouldn t we
turn the page and move on? Those are the fascinating words from the famous Canadian writer
Joy Kogawa. Growing up during World War II, surrounded by the Japanese Canadian
internment, her life as a little girl was not the easiest. Her past during that same time period is
seen in her two works titled Obasan and Naomi s Road. Obasan is from the perspective of adult
Naomi Nakane whose story is told through flashbacks and items she comes across. The second
work, Naomi s Road, is centered around young Naomi as she faces the world of discrimination
by her country and citizens around her who are in the name of national security. Both books
together express the influence on her life from childhood journey and the difficultness she
experienced while aging. These two books portray the same message, yet in different methods
due to the type of audience Kogawa identifies in each. Obasan is written for adults, yet Naomi s
Road is written for children. Joy Kogawa acknowledges the differences upon adults and children
through the use of her two major works. One of the first topics Kogawa differentiates is the
difference between adults and children s minds. While reading Obasan, I was fascinated with the

Why Student Loan Is The Cost Of Refinancing
Looking to refinance your student loans? Millions of college graduates around the country stayed
with student loans that had annual percentage rates that were too high. When they signed up for
these loans, they weren t worried about paying them off because graduation seemed so far away.
Now the time has finally come to start repayment. Fortunately there are few good ways to ease the
sting of paying back your student loans. What we are looking for when refinancing student loanis a
lower APR, or annual percentage rate. The APR is a percentage of the total amount of money you
borrowed that diminishes as payments are made towards the loan. Another very important thing you

With good choices, student loan refinance can save you a lot of money.
From the time students found that getting loans to complete their education was easy, more and
more students opted to continue their education. Previously there were many people who could
not complete their education because of the lack of fund. But this is not the case these days.
However, once these students get the degree, they leave college with piles of student loans also.
There are many federal and non federal student loans consolidation programs that help them ease
and simplify their repayment plan. Some think that simply by considering the lowest rate of
interest they are done and they will be able to save lot of money. This is not true. Before
selecting the student loan consolidation company, it is good to consider some essential factors.
You have to see that all the terms are beneficial for you and that too in the long run. Avoid
looking for short term benefits unless you are in deep and severe financial crisis. See that there
are no charges and penalties for repaying your installments in advance. Even if you do not have
the job right now, consider these points. This is important because in near future you are going to
get the job and then you will prefer paying off all your loans as fast as possible. When considering

Kudler Fine Food s Financial Position
Kudler CEO Financial Memo
The liquidity, profitability, and solvency ratios reveal some interesting points about Kudler Fine
Food s financial position. The liquidity ratios revealed that during 2002 and 2003, Kudler was
having no trouble paying short term debt. However, the current and acid test (quick) ratios showed
that during 2003 Kudler had an excess amount of cash that they were not investing properly. These
ratios also showed that Kudler was collecting receivables and selling average inventory very
quickly. The profitability ratios revealed that during 2002 and 2003, Kudler was using assets
efficiently and making a decent profit. The profit margin ratio showed that during 2002 Kudler
made a profit of four cents per dollar, and during 2003 they made a profit of roughly six cents per
dollar. In addition, the return on assets ratio (which is also a profitability ratio) showed that
Kudler utilized their assets efficiently enough to turn a profit. The solvency ratio used, which was
the debt to total assets ratio, showed that during 2002 and 2003 Kudler only had around a quarter
of their assets financed in debt. All of these ratios show that Kudler was a fairly strong company
financially during 2002 and 2003. When trying to figure out how successful Kudler Fine Foods is,
it is critical to review all financial statements. By using the horizontal and vertical analysis and the
determining ratio calculations the profitability, liquidity, and solvency are figured. A specific

Bilingual Education Policy in Australia Concerning...
From the time the British first settled the continent to the present, the Aboriginal people of
Australia and the English speaking Australian government have had a rocky relationship. For many
years, aboriginal Australians experienced much discrimination and racism. Like Native Americans
in the United States, the Aborigines were displaced from their tribal lands and forced into
designated settlements. This was all part of an attempt on the part of the government and the
European settlers to eradicate Aboriginal culture. Though overtly racist policies have now been
done away with and formal apologies given, much of Aboriginal culture has been lost. Efforts to
revive it are now underway, and at the forefront of these are efforts to revitalize... Show more

Ensuring that Aboriginal children are able to become fully proficient in Standard Australian
English is important, since it greatly expands the number of opportunities available to them in
higher education, employment, and access to services (McKay, 300). Aboriginal parents are
eager for these children to gain access to these opportunities through mastery of Standard
Australian English, but do not wish their own languages to be lost in the process (McKay, 305).
Aboriginal Australians, even those who do not themselves speak an Aboriginal language, show
great pride in their language as part of their cultural identity (McKay, 299). As such, it is
necessary for schools to display recognition of each language s intrinsic cultural value and
linguistic complexity and uniqueness (Gale, 282). Concrete evidence of the value of these
languages to Aboriginal people is shown by the fact that knowledge of an Aboriginal language
decreases the likelihood of excessive alcohol consumption and illicit drug use in 15 to 24 year old
Aborigines (McKay, 300). In the past, well implemented bilingual education programs have resulted
in a stronger relationship between schools and their surrounding communities, as well as an
increase in the interest of Aboriginal people in becoming teachers (McKay, 312). Teachers who
have been involved in bilingual education programs know the positive effects they have on

Stereotypes Of Ethnic Entrepreneurs
As with female entrepreneurs, ethnic entrepreneurs also face huge stereotypes that affect their
enterprises. They include the stereotypes that ethnic entrepreneurs only enter markets that need low
capital and education levels, are on a small scale with high labor and very little value. It is also
commonly thought that ethnic entrepreneurs only start their own businesses because they do not
have a chance being employed, and therefore start their organizations to make ends meet. So the
common generalization about ethnic entrepreneurs is that they are under educated people who

Limiting ethnic entrepreneurs to particular industries, or excluding them from white dominated
industries such as construction, which is known to be exclusive to a network affects the rate at
which ethnic entrepreneurs break out of their expected industry into others. They find it difficult to

of segregation patterns (Geagin and Imani, 1994). Ethnic entrepreneurs therefore face a lot of
discriminatory encounters when they venture into the industries and therefore do not survive most
of the time. Although much research has been launched into women entrepreneurship and
immigrant and minority entrepreneurship as separate topics, there does not seem to be much focus

  • 2. Amelia Mary Earhart Biography Hello! My name is Amelia Mary Earhart, and I was born on July 24, 1897. I was the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic ocean, and I have earned many aviation records, (which is a history record for people who are Aviators, also known as an Aircraft pilot). I received the U.S. Distinguished Flying Cross for flying across the Atlantic ocean, this was my greatest award, and the best moment of my life. On May, 15, 1923 I became the 16th woman to be issued a pilot s license! This was rarely ever given to woman, and I had made a strong stand for women s rights. My first plane, I named The Canary , for it s bright yellow color. I was in love, it was the first plane I had ever flown all by myself! However, what most people do not know, is that ... • 4. How Did Germany Influence The Us Foreign Policy The U.S s strategic decision to amalgamate its German zone with Britain and France into one unit while introducing a new German currency, and initiatives such as the Marshall Plan and Truman Doctrine to contain communism contributed to their success against the Soviets. After World War II, Germany was separated into four zones of military occupation run by the U.S, Britain, France, and the U.S.S.R. During the division, the U.S and U.S.S.R competed for territorial and political dominance in Germany because the country was a pinnacle for economic and social change at the time. The U.S, France, and Britain believed a powerful Germany could enable democracy to prosper after the years of Nazi dictatorship as well as Europe s economy. Thus, to strengthen Germany to encourage the prosperity of democracy, Britain, France, and the U.S combined their respective German zones into one unit while introducing a new currency the Deutschmark while failing to inform the U.S.S.R. As West Germany became a stable western democracy, East Germany continued to grow as a communist... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, keeping Germany weak included the implementation of communism, which the U.S. strongly opposed. The U.S. used the policy of containment to directly prevent the spread of communism. Their first step into trying to contain communism was the Truman Doctrine, in which Harry Truman incorporated the desire for containment, which vowed to support nations fighting communism. Truman and Congress had pledged $400 million to fight communist revolutionaries in Greece and Turkey. If Greece were to fall under the control of communist rebels communism might also spread throughout the Middle East (Truman, 1947). Truman also convinced the Western European powers to join NATO so that they could mutually defend themselves against the threat of a Soviet ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Kant’s Argugument for the Existance of Supreme Moral Law By the end of section II of The Groundwork of the Metaphysics of Morals, Kant has established that, if there were a supreme moral law, it would look like the categorical imperative. His task in the final section of the Groundwork is to show that there does in fact exist such a moral law by proving that we have free wills, and secondary to this, he wants to show why we actually take an interest in morality. This paper will provide an account and evaluate the success of Kant s argument in this final section. By the start of section III, Kant has finished developing the structure of the supreme moral law, were it to exist. He began by analyzing our popular conceptions of morality, and worked toward developing a rational reconstruction of this morality. In line with this effort, Kant specifies the will as the fundamental cause of action for rational beings, and it is the supreme moral law that the will acts for the sake of and from which we derive our duties. This principle, called the categorical imperative, is the unconditioned conditioner of the will, in that it is the determining ground for the will, but is not itself determined by any other law. Kant offers three formulas of the categorical imperative in section II, and it is the third formulation, which requires us to think of ourselves as legislating universal law in a kingdom of ends, that emphasizes the importance of autonomy. It is this concept of autonomy, or freedom of the will, that will be crucial for Kant in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Haman becomes infuriated and plots to destroy all the Jews in the kingdom because of his pride. Mordecai hears of the plot and reports it to his Esther. • 7. The Definition Of Obscenity And Obscenity Laws Constructed... Obscenity revolves around what constitutes pornography and sexually explicit material to be protected by the First Amendment rights of freedom of speech and press as stated in the Constitution. I want to look at the language and definitions of obscenity created by the Supreme Court and interrupt their effects on society. In this essay, I want to argue that the creation of the definition of obscenityand obscenity laws constructed from community standards can be harmful to society because they can be interrupted in many different ways. First, I would like to define terms of what obscenity means and the differences between obscenity, vulgarity, and profanity. Obscenity, as defined by the Supreme Court case of Miller v. California, believed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In a legal context, obscenity describes expressions that are typically sexual or crude references to the body or bodily functions that offend the sexual morality of a given time and place. Even though, this creates a gray are between something considered profane or vulgar language and/or behavior and obscenity because profanity and vulgarity can offend the sexual morality as well. Nonetheless, the First Amendment of the Constitution does not protect behavior, actions, or language seen specifically as obscene. Next, I would like to explore at what point or context does something turn from being considered profane and/or vulgar into being considered obscene and therefore, against the law. In Roth v. US, the court held that obscenity was not within the area of constitutionally protected speech or press . The Supreme Court made it clear in the ruling that the First Amendment did not protect every behavior, action, or expression, such as materials that were utterly without redeeming social importance . The Supreme Court believed the definition of obscenity as stated in the above paragraph gave a fair warning to the public and satisfied the demands of the Due Process clause in the Fourteenth Amendment. • 8. The Visual Arts, Technology, And Philosophy One may wonder how much did The Information Age really contribute to society and, more specifically, the visual arts, technology, and philosophy. The Information Age, as defined by Gloria K. Fiero, is dominated by radical changes in the technology of communication and the way we receive and process information (Fiero, 476). The Information Age paved the way for several brilliant artists to not only share their work, but create their work. Artists, such as Andy Warhol, expressed their artistic abilities in the most unimaginable, yet creative approaches. In the case of Andy Warhol, Warhol created pop art, which artistically expresses popular culture in means of creating a compelling commercial advertisement. Furthermore, in the realm of... Moreover, total art is the work of art itself (Fiero, 492). Total art is far from being considered traditional art, yet it is rather creative and gives insight as to how the product is secondary compared to the process of creating art. Total art is expressed in the form of performance and ritual. Additionally, total art can take several different forms such as raves, flash mobs, and basically any moment that an individual would describe as art. Furthermore, Pop art is more of an extension of traditional art, yet the art is expressed in a manner that grabs the attention of an individual witnessing the painting. Pop art seems simplistic, however, pop art also seems to be loud and eye piercing. Andy Warhol, the artist behind the creation of pop art, received the idea of pop art through his experiences as a commercial artist. Since western consumerism seamlessly began to expand, Warhol gave advertisements more life and personality in order to capture the attention of the audience. • 9. Comparing The Gospels Of Mark And Matthew The Gospels of Mark and Matthew give us details of the ministry, death and resurrection of Jesus. Mark focuses on Jesus being a servant, healer, teacher and miracle worker. Matthew focuses on Jesus as the Messiah of the New Law . Both gospels are to encourage Christians and give them strength to build their faith. Jesusis using his disciples in both gospels to show that we all sin, are afraid and turn away from God but through the love and sacrifice of Jesus we are forgiven. The two gospels are telling the same story with different points to view and a few differences. Both Mark and Matthew give us story of the baptism of Jesus, the choosing of the disciples, the journey to Jerusalem, the healings, the miracles, the ministry, the death, and resurrection of Jesus. One important similarity is the Parables of Jesus that both gospels go into detail about. The parables are stories from Jesus that teach us how to live, love, and most importantly how to grow spiritually. To you has been given the secret of the kingdom of God, but for those outside everything is in parables, so that they may indeed see but not perceive, and may indeed hear but not understand, lest they should turn and be forgiven. So much of our society today has disbelief, hate, animosity, selfish desires, anger, idolism and greed that they can t see the true love God has for us. • 11. Causes Of The Fabian Movement The economic climate of the latter half of the 19th century was one of upheaval. London was quite influenced by several socialist thinkers during this time including Karl Marx. Marx passed away in 1883, leaving behind many radical socialists who influenced the burgeoning Fabian Movement. H.M. Hyndman and Henry George were two important figures who wrote pivotal pieces of literature. Henry George published Progress and Povertyin 1879 and greatly influenced many of the socialists who came into the Fabian Society (Fremantle, 1961, p.20). Two years later, H.M. Hyndman wrote England for All and later that year went on to found the Democratic Federation (later called the Social Democratic Federation) (Fremantle, 1961, p. 22). Both George and Hyndman were fans of Marx and believed in his violent revolutionary ideology yet, what helped form the Fabians was their dislike of this particular tenet. • 12. The Nuclear Reactors At Chernobyl Abstract The disaster at Chernobyl in 1986 is one that should not be forgotten due to its heavy impacts on society not just locally, but also globally. The incident serves as a perfect example of the importance of engineers and the government acting ethically. From the start, the engineers designing the nuclear reactors at Chernobyl failed to act with integrity by not concerning themselves with the health or welfare of the local community. Their lack of safety systems that were common place in other reactors across the world inevitably caused the death of thousands of people in the former USSR. Additionally, certain design errors committed by the engineers left the reactor unstable during simple, frequent tests and experiments. The USSR... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All these mistakes eventually led to the unnecessary loss of civilian lives in the local area in addition to massive amounts of radiation being released into the environment and atmosphere. I.INTRODUCTION Engineering ethical disasters occur when engineers overlook the guidelines given to them and make mistakes. Engineers are the people who design everything from cars to the space shuttles, and failures can not only take lives, but also have huge political and economic impacts lasting decades. An example of this is the Chernobyl disaster. This happened because of mistakes that could have been avoided if the engineers had acted ethically. Chernobyl had a terrible impact on the surrounding area and created deep seeded fear in both people that were affected and people that watched from afar. Chernobyl is considered an ethical disaster because of the deceptiveness of the USSR government, the engineer s inability to keep the public s safety as a number one priority, and because some of the engineers were acting outside of their areas of expertise. II.OVERVIEW The Chernobyl disaster occurred on April 26th, 1986 in the southwestern Soviet Union in modern day Ukraine. Chernobyl was a town that the USSR chose as a site to build a nuclear power plant containing four operating RBMK reactors. These particular Soviet designed reactors were natural uranium fueled, water cooled, and graphite moderated [1]. Engineers at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The people that live during the Paleolithic Era where nomads which meant they moved around to gather their food. The paleolithic Era people hunted and gathered their food. • 15. Epiphany In Hamlet So I had an epiphany. Actually, that s not quite the right word. An epiphany is a moment of sudden clarity, but mine was anything but sudden. It rolled in slowly and started to unfold itself, like it was doing its morning stretch. Yesterday, I was in London with my son. We decided to go ahead and catch the opening of Hamlet , at the Royal National Theatre. Written by William Shakespeare, the play illustrates the difficulties we ll encounter in our lives. Shakespeare does this through the characters, soliloquies, and allusions to the theme of madness. Whilst we were watching the play, my son whispered in my ear, claiming that Hamlet reminded him of Tupac. At first I dismissed it as ridiculous, but then I thought about it. Perhaps he was right. Are these two seemingly different people somewhat related?... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Is Hamlet like Tupac? Tupac also saw this, and nothing proves this more than the song Changes. In this song, Tupac shows the themes of appearance vs reality, revenge and morality. Like Hamlet throughout the play, the song challenges the rules set by culture and works towards justice. These show how hard life is to be an underprivileged Black man in the United States, with a kindness on issues with police cruelty. This follows Hamlets theme of appearance vs reality as from the outside it may look as though racism is no longer a factor as laws have changed and the systemic oppression of minorities is no more. And I m sure as you may have heard, we had a black president! Therefore everything is magically fixed. As the song develops, Tupac makes simple as people sometimes wish it could be, and that people must get used to these new environments. Similar to the motif of change seen in Hamlet. Tupac expresses how simple it is for people to buy weapons and kill other people. How in times of change we result to fighting and killing. Dis Engagement Theory And The Active Theory Within this essay I am going to talk about the two theories which are the dis engagement theory and the active theory these two theories are for and against each other and also argue which theory is best suited for adult s life and development. Socio Dis engagement theory shows that the ageing claims that elderly people are disengaged from society and social role models due to their inevitability of death. However disengagement theorists have said that that elderly people begin to disengage themselves from previous social groups realising that they will die in the near future. Moreover the people from the dis engagement theories were one of the first theorists of ageing that were developed and acknowledged by social scientist. These theories were developed and processed by Elaine Cumming and Warren Earl Henry in 1961. Therefore the dis engagement theory of ageing have stated that you cannot stop age it is inevitable (Robert Havighurst) In addition the views of disengagement theory views their ageing as a mutual withdrawal that the process between ageing person and the social system of which they belong such as gradual withdrawal from society. Even as a child many of us were constantly told: Think about your behavior! This reminder helps realize that one of the most powerful determinants of human behavior stems from our need to justify our actions. This feeling of discomfort caused by performing a certain action is called cognitive dissonance. However, sometimes justification of our actions, caused by cognitive dissonance, leads to the thought: Who decided what is right or wrong? or in other words: What and where is the perfect example of living a moral life? Studying moral philosophyshows us that people hold different worldviews that contain different models of moral justification. Based on the analysis of two philosophies, naturalism and theism, this paper argues that theism provides a better framework for making sense of moralityand living a moral live, because it has more explanatory power regarding the notion of free will that people have. Naturalism mainly is though as a type of scientism, which implies that only things recognized by scientists as real are real. Although, there are many naturalists who hold this particular view, it is not the necessary feature of naturalism. In their very nature, we can see that these two novels vary greatly in purpose, structure, and the way that they convey their messages. Although this is true, they make up for this when we examine the motives of the authors and certain ways that the authors convey messages. Ernest Hemingway and William Faulkner grew up and developed their opinions in far different ways. Hemingway was heavily affected by his experiences in World War I and the Spanish Civil War. These events greatly influenced Hemingway s ideas about war in For Whom the Bell Tolls (5). In As I Lay Dying, this situation is shown through the relationship between Jewel and Darl, and also through the relationship between Anse and Addie. In For Whom the Bell Tolls, we see a similar relationship between Pablo and Robert Jordan. The hostility that these character have for one another is rooted in a lack of trust. Addie is hostile to Anse because she believes that Anse manipulated her into having children, without truly loving her. Darl is hostile to Jewel because Jewel was Addie s favorite child, and Darl believes that Jewel was unfairly given love (so he chooses not to trust Jewel). Robert Jordan lacks trust for Pablo because he believes that Pablo will betray the him and the Republic. This hostility between characters is also similar in the fact the we do not always know the reasoning or the outcome of hostility. For the entire first half of the novel, we do not know why Addie acted the way that she did, and for the same reason, why Darl treated Jewel the way that he did. We will never know how much Robert Jordan s hostility for Pablo affected the story. Perhaps Robert Jordan would have gone on to live a happy life had he not disrupted the flow of the group. The similar way in which hostility between characters is depicted shows a great similarity between the novels, but we can also see a great contrast in the way love is shown. The love that Maria and Robert Jordan have in For Whom the Bell Tolls is depicted as very free and open, while Addie refuses to love anyone but Jewel in her family, because she was betrayed and Anse only said, and did not show, that he loved her. • 28. Benefits Of Genetically Modified Organisms ( Gmos ) Essay Life on earth began approximately 3.5 billion years ago and, since the rapid diversification of most major living phyla (known as The Cambrian Explosion), evolution has given rise to an extraordinarily diverse range of life forms. Evolution has resulted in various species with a wide range of traits, each with the potential to be utilized by human kind. By modifying these organisms through cross breeding and artificial selection to create crops with desirable traits, the agriculture industry has found a way to produce essential food crops and a way to feed the world . In the 1970s, Morrow et al. developed a technique that allowed them to cut DNA from one organism and splice it with the DNA of another and thus modern biotechnology was born. Today, it is possible to sidestep the relatively slow process of evolution by modifying genes of plants and animals in the lab. Presently, such modifications allow for pest and herbicide resistance; faster crop production; more nutritious food sources; and even disease resistance . Despite these purported benefits of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs), there is considerable debate surrounding their use. In the public sphere, beliefs concerning GMO tend to be dominated by two markedly opposing narratives and it seems that one can only be in one of two camps: I.Critics of GMO: Arguing that the use of GMO is not justified as it is unnatural, unsafe, and may have long term environmental impacts. Commodity Chain Analysis Introduction The late twentieth century and early twenty first century trends towards the continuing integration of the world economy have attracted the attention of geographers who seek to assess the impacts that globalization processes have at various geographic scales.1 The banana has a rich history of globalization, and for this reason, this essay will explore the commodity chain that shows the trajectory that the banana takes in order to be produced in the Caribbean, Latin America and elsewhere, then transported through the sea, next entering grocery stores throughout the world and finally consumed in the homes of millions. From doing this first assignment project, I learned how focused the French culture is on art and how involved it is in their everyday lives. Art can come in so many forms in the French culture, a few being paintings, sketches, sculpting, and making music. As well as this, I learned about Impressionism which is a form of art that specifically came from the French culture in the 1870s and the 1880s. Paul acknowledges the argument that Gregory Currie, professor of philosophy at the University of Nottingham says about how there is no evidence that people become morally/socially better for reading great books. • 43. What Activity During Oocyte Activation Prevents... What activity during oocyte activation prevents penetration by additional sperm? There are to methods consisting of an electrical block and mechanical block, which prevents penetration of additional sperms during oocyte activation. Electrical block involves the absences of fertilization (the oocyte contains a negative charge within and the sperm a positive charge). For instance, if an oocyte comes into contact with a sperm the negative charge within the oocyte changes to positive resulting any other sperms from penetrating the oocyte since the repulsive forces between like charges. However, a mechanical block operates primarily in mammals and other animals such as endoplasmic reticulum. The calcium ion stimulates the vesicles to undertake exocytosis of molecules from cortical granules modifying the extracellular membranes such as the vitelline membrane and the zona pellucida to harden preventing polyspermy, therefore, resulting in creating a barrier against ruther sperm penetration. However, in mammals the first sperm to enter into the egg; the cortical granules found in the cortex of the egg secretes a serine protease allowing it to shift its properties of the membrane of the zona pellucida typically the layer found outside the plasma membrane. The irony in this reference to Wordsworth s work, however, is the contrasting subject matters he writes of metaphorical nuns, while she writes of rejection and lovers. The second interpretation of Millay s constrained rhyme scheme is a fair bit simpler. Her choice of words throughout the work is calm and cool distanced from the audience. • 53. Bilingual Education Policy in Australia Concerning... From the time the British first settled the continent to the present, the Aboriginal people of Australia and the English speaking Australian government have had a rocky relationship. For many years, aboriginal Australians experienced much discrimination and racism. Like Native Americans in the United States, the Aborigines were displaced from their tribal lands and forced into designated settlements. This was all part of an attempt on the part of the government and the European settlers to eradicate Aboriginal culture. Though overtly racist policies have now been done away with and formal apologies given, much of Aboriginal culture has been lost. Efforts to revive it are now underway, and at the forefront of these are efforts to revitalize... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ensuring that Aboriginal children are able to become fully proficient in Standard Australian English is important, since it greatly expands the number of opportunities available to them in higher education, employment, and access to services (McKay, 300). Aboriginal parents are eager for these children to gain access to these opportunities through mastery of Standard Australian English, but do not wish their own languages to be lost in the process (McKay, 305). Aboriginal Australians, even those who do not themselves speak an Aboriginal language, show great pride in their language as part of their cultural identity (McKay, 299). As such, it is necessary for schools to display recognition of each language s intrinsic cultural value and linguistic complexity and uniqueness (Gale, 282). Concrete evidence of the value of these languages to Aboriginal people is shown by the fact that knowledge of an Aboriginal language decreases the likelihood of excessive alcohol consumption and illicit drug use in 15 to 24 year old Aborigines (McKay, 300). In the past, well implemented bilingual education programs have resulted in a stronger relationship between schools and their surrounding communities, as well as an increase in the interest of Aboriginal people in becoming teachers (McKay, 312). Teachers who have been involved in bilingual education programs know the positive effects they have on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Stereotypes Of Ethnic Entrepreneurs As with female entrepreneurs, ethnic entrepreneurs also face huge stereotypes that affect their enterprises. They include the stereotypes that ethnic entrepreneurs only enter markets that need low capital and education levels, are on a small scale with high labor and very little value. It is also commonly thought that ethnic entrepreneurs only start their own businesses because they do not have a chance being employed, and therefore start their organizations to make ends meet. So the common generalization about ethnic entrepreneurs is that they are under educated people who started their own organizations because they could not get gainful employment. Blanchflower et al. 1998, presented evidence from their research on black and white owned... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Limiting ethnic entrepreneurs to particular industries, or excluding them from white dominated industries such as construction, which is known to be exclusive to a network affects the rate at which ethnic entrepreneurs break out of their expected industry into others. They find it difficult to break into the exclusive bond or network created by among the industry members after many years of segregation patterns (Geagin and Imani, 1994). Ethnic entrepreneurs therefore face a lot of discriminatory encounters when they venture into the industries and therefore do not survive most of the time. Although much research has been launched into women entrepreneurship and immigrant and minority entrepreneurship as separate topics, there does not seem to be much focus on entrepreneurs who fit into both categories, the ethnic female entrepreneur. This profile covers a woman of ethnic background who launches an organization to create innovative solutions for profit. Owing to the fact that they belong to two categories that face the most challenges in entrepreneurial pursuits, it is necessary to find out how their special circumstance acts as a barrier to their ...
