Uniforms Should Not Wear School Uniforms
During every school year, the issue on if school officials should or should not entail students to
wear uniforms in school is a constant debate among the parents and staff members in school
districts. Just like any other controversial issues, there are two sides to the argument representing
both the good and bad points that exist behind student being required to wear uniforms in
school. Although it can take students time to adjust to transitioning into the policy of being
required to wear uniforms in school when it is first enforced, the benefits that come from them
makes it all worth the hassle. Individuals against the idea of students being required to wear
uniforms in school, often fail to see the bigger picture at hand. Uniforms help with removing
negative situations in schools, along with helping parents save time and money. For over a
decade now school districts in the United States have enforced dress codes on students, that has
led up to students being required to wear uniforms in school. It all started in the 1950 s when
girls were not allowed to wear pants in school, leaving them to only be allowed to wear skirts or
dresses (McVeigh, pg.85). The 1950 s was not the only period in history leading up to the
beginning of school uniforms. In 1960 s it was unacceptable for the boy to wear blue jeans, black
leather jackets, and other accessories associated with gangs in school (McVeigh, pg.85). It wasn t
until the late 1980 s that dress code policy really began to spread,

Their Eyes Were Watching God
As George Bernard Shaw once said, [l]ife isn t about finding yourself. Life is about creating
yourself. Existence is a series of experience that define societies. From childhood to adulthood,
people are expressed by moments. However, no occurrence is more significant than death. In
Zora Neale Hurston s famous novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God, the main character Janie
Crawford is plagued by the deaths of loved ones. Janie moves from caregiver to caregiver searching
for true loveand happiness, only to have it stripped away from her once she finds it in her third
husband Tea Cake. At the end of the novel, having realized true love and loss, Janie is a whole
woman. Their Eyes Were Watching God portrays the growth of the human spirit

To Nanny, a woman who was dominated by slavery, there is no companionship for women to
experience, only hardship. Janie is reminded of Nanny s ideals after the death of her second
husband Joe when a man from Eatonville voices, Uh woman by herself is a pitiful thing... Dey
needs aid and assistance. God never meant em tuh try tuh stand by theirselves (Hurston 90). Despite
Janie s constant questioning about Logan Killicks, Nanny realizes love does not beget marriage.
Tracy Bealer states, Nanny s experiences with institutionalized racism and pervasive misogyny
teach her that for black women, erotic love is infused with shame, physical pain, and
unsatisfying labor (315). Inevitably, Nanny begins to teach Janie what her place in the world is,
under man. Janie is a young girl, and after kissing Johnnie Taylor she can only think about love.
So Nanny tells her love does not exist in marriage and to forget about searching for her dreams.
Janie would carry this belief into her first marriage, allowing Nanny s fear of death and her own
fear of loneliness to guide her into adulthood. Janie holds onto these fears long after her
grandmother s death. Fearing her own death, when Nanny begins to see Janie maturing naturally
into a young woman she forcefully shoves her into adulthood by giving her rights as a guardian to
Logan Killicks. When Nanny caught Janie

Car Tuning
The modification of company manufactured vehicles, otherwise known as Car Tuning , has
become increasingly widespread over the past few years. It has developed from industry
application into being a popular hobby in which cars are modified by their owners in order to
optimize performance, handling and perhaps add a personal touch. This type of activity might be
mistaken by many to be reserved for racing junkies , but if we take a closer look, it actually
proves to be quite beneficial in terms of fuel consumption and safety. Superchargers or
turbochargers are known to increase engine efficiency and power, whereas advanced suspension
and braking tend to drastically upgrade handling and thus safety. A carefully designed exhaust
system can... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A spark plug ignites the mixture and the combustion takes place. In this phase, timing is crucial
since the spark must occur when the air/fuel mixture is compressed to the optimal point. Else,
the combustion will not work as effectively as it should. Once the combustion takes place, the
piston is pushed back down Now, the exhaust valves evacuate the product of the combustion and
the engine is ready for another cycle. Here, we notice the importance of the valves that must
open at the correct time to fill the combustion chamber and then to clear this chamber from the
product of the combustion. The timing of the valves is controlled by the Cam Shaft. This part
of the engine decides on the correct timing: thus filling the combustion chamber when needed
and evacuating it when it is full. Factory, or stock , cars are made for average driving conditions
and driver expectations. Sacrifices in performance, efficiency, and even handling are made for
more comfort (Wikipedia). Car tuning is not yet very popular among people especially here in
Lebanon. While people may think that car tuning is only for race junkies , the fact is that it
actually improves the efficiency, performance, handling, and power of the car. The personal
motive behind car tuning is usually personalizing the car to suit its owner s needs, driving style,
and personality. Engine efficiency is a major issue in the car industry. Instead of completely
replacing an engine by a bigger and more powerful

South Dining Should Be Allowed In College
Nearly every American has worried about their weight at some point in their life; it s in human
nature to try and maintain optimal health. Recently, Americans have been having a harder time
controlling their weights, and obesity is on the rise. This is the result of unhealthy dieting diets and
insufficient exercise. Kutztown University is no exception to this problem. Students do not have
enough healthy options, especially around breakfast timeduring breakfast hours. More specifically,
South Dining Hall doesn t offer enough whole grainoptions to students, and this negatively impacts
students; this has a negative impact on students.

Whenever his army marched into a land, it was not just an army of warriors; he brought an
entourage of scholars to spread the culture as well. Interspersed within the fighting battalions
were architects, philosophers, scribes, musicians, and educators whose whole duty was to
spread the culture to those who were conquered. Some of these strategies were the establishment
of Greek cities, Greek schools (Gymnasia), and commanding the Greek language as the official
language for government and the de facto language for commerce. Many people began to give
their children Greek names, and local styles of art and architecture began to imitate Greek
models. Even some of the Jewish High Priests took Greek names. All of this was not a good turn
of events for Israel since the Greek culture was very ungodly and humanistic. Despite the bright
and promising future ahead of him, Alexander met an unexpected death in Babylon at the age of
32 and though one will like to believe that all that he stood for will now be in vain, the case was
not so but rather what he initiated had only just begun. After the death of Alexander his field
marshals struggled for dominion of the lands they had conquered.

Slow economic growth combined with a still high population growth has kept the Philippines per
capita income lagging behind those of its regional neighbors. The urgency to recover lost ground is,
therefore, clear. Although the economy has improved, the growth forecast for the immediate future
is less reassuring. The challenge is how to stay on course and sustain the momentum in the face of
what appears to be a prolonged slowdown in the world economy and the precarious state of public
finances. To meet this challenge, the Philippine Government has formulated a macroeconomic
program for stability and growth with equity. At the core of this program is a poverty reduction
agenda anchored on redistributing economic opportunities, protecting the vulnerable, and
enhancing the capabilities of the poor to participate in decision making. The nature, composition
and causes of poverty in the Philippines as well as the responses required to eliminate poverty have
been discussed amongst representatives of Government, civil society, the private sector, and the
international donor community at several forums. The most important among these forums are the
five island wide multi sectoral consultation workshops to discuss the draft NAAA in 2000, the
Employment Summit in Manila in March 2001, and the various consultative meetings and

Piecewise Registration Techniques
A major problem with piecewise registration technique is the smoothness between neighboring
pieces, which we refer to as the inter piece smoothness. Due to the use of nonlinear models in local
pieces, the smoothness within each piece should also be considered, which we refer to as the intra
piece smoothness. We propose a systematic strategy to ensure the smoothness and diffeomorphism
of the estimated deformation field. Subsection{Piece Overlapping Constraint} In order to reduce
the estimation difference between neighboring pieces, a piece overlapping constraint is proposed. It
is based on the piece expansion scheme introduced in Subsection
[chap3:sec2:piecewise_model_framework]. This constraint corresponds to... Show more content on

Note that the computation of the mean SD only needs to be done once for both f and g. An image
composed of such values can be warped based on the estimated deformation field to decide
confidence factors used in later stages. Using this concept, [eq:piece_overlap_1] is re defined
as:R_{1}left(boldsymbol{t}_{p}right)=sum_{boldsymbol{x}in p}sum_{leftlangle
p,qrightrangle inzeta}leftVert psi_{p}boldsymbol{T}_{p}left(boldsymbol{x}right)
psi_{q}T_{q}left(boldsymbol{x}right)rightVert ^{2}where psi_{p} and psi_{q} are the
confidence factors for the p th and the q th pieces respectively. Regularization term
[eq:piece_overlap_1] is summed up for all pieces to provide inter piece smoothness constraint. It
should be noted that this added term only ensures the the estimation discontinuities being
minimized but not completely eliminated. Therefore, the estimated local deformations are
interpolated in order to obtain a global deformation field at the end of each subdivision level. The
final deformation field is obtained by composing deformations obtained at each subdivision level.
Subsection{Bending Energy Constraint} Using nonlinear deformation models requires additional
constraint for the intra piece smoothness. A bending energy [#Bookstein1989] based regularization
term is added. It corresponds to R_{2}left(boldsymbol{boldsymbol{T}}_{p}right) in

Introduction Of The Crystal Palace
INTRODUCTION
It was like like nothing but itself, unsurpassable, indescribable, unique, amazing, real!
Talli s History and Description of the Crystal Palace and the Exhibition of the World s Industry in
1851
From 1837 to 1901, under the reign of Queen Victoria, Great Britain, with the supremacy of its
Royal Navy, had largely fulfilled its ambition of global imperial expansion in Asia and Africa
particularly. As the British Empiresoon became the largest empire in history, this era was later
known as the Victorian Era (John 129).
To further unite nations and demonstrate an imperial industrial and economic leadership of the
world, Queen Victoria s husband, Prince Albert organized the first world s fair, namely, The Great
Exhibition of the Works of Industry of All Nations , at the Crystal Palace in Hyde Park, London,
from May 1 to October 15 in 1851 (Celik 1). Not only did the diversity of the foreign goods
displayed at the exhibition astonish the publics, but also the Crystal Palace, designed by Joseph
Paxton and Owen Jones, as the striking structure that housed these articles attracted millions of
visitors around the world during 1851 (Fig. 1). Later after the exhibition, the foreign articles were
transferred to the South Kensington Museum (Crinson 65) as part of the Imperial archive
(Barringer 11), to promote industrial and commercial education among domestic artisans and
skilled labourers in the next fifty years, with a hope that the nation s economic growth

The Similarities Between Cerberus And Fluffy In Harry Potter
In the Harry Potter series, J.K. Rowling drew heavily upon mythology to create her books. The
series consist of multiple mythological creatures. Rowling was influenced by Cerberus, a Greek
and Roman mythology creature, to create Fluffy. Fluffy is a three headed dog in the Harry
Potter series whom was purchased by Hagrid. Cerberus and Fluffy are different as Cerberus is
controlled by Hades, whereas Fluffy is owned by Hagrid. They are also similar as they both guard
their territory and listen to lullabies before sleeping. Although they bear some superficial
similarities, the differences between Cerberus and Fluffy are clear. Cerberus and Fluffy are both
known for guarding their territorial grounds. Cerberus features in Greek and Roman mythology

we will be seeing as we walk down the aisles of our favorite shops. We figure out what we need

very important for us to understand what types of situations, people may be in and why they act the
way they do when at the town shopping mall. It is hard to dodge everyone in a crowded mall, but

The Art Nouveau Caused By King Leopold II Of Belgium
In Belgium, the Art Nouveau provided works of Victor Horta. The beauty of these artist works
often overshadows the historic context that funded, supplied, inspired this art and design
movement. The transformation art and design in Brussels during this time was a product of
imperialism and genocide sanctioned by King Leopold II of Belgium, through the exploitation and
appropriation Congolese culture and raw materials.
Born in Brussels, Belgium in 1835, Leopold II became the second king of Belgium at the age of
30 [Fig1]. Belgium was a young country with an equally small economy and population. Striving to
compete the economic success of Britain and Germany, Leopold II would turn his attention towards
Africa, with the purpose of establishing Belgium as a world power, during a time of imperial
growth, which coincided, with the expiation of Art Nouveau in Europe. To acquire the land, raw
materials, and population of twenty million; Leopold II effectively established control of the
Congo through economic and political means. Leopold II was one of the first European rulers to
attempt to develop this area and would successfully obtain it in 1885, creating the Congo Free State
(Frost 2001). Leopold II did many things in order to acquire this colony. For example, he exploited
tensions other colonies controlled by Britain and Germany, by hosting the Brussels Conference of
1876, which lead to the creation of the International African Association; established arbitrate

Educating Afghan Girls Education
Educating Afghan Girls
Education is one of the most important contributors to having a successful future. In developed
countries such as North America boys and girls are fortunate enough to have access to an unbiased
education system. Therefore, allowing children to have countless opportunities. However, in
countries like Afghanistan girls are marginalized and neglected the right to learn. Afghanistan is a
country of war, where women and girls are often the worst victims. In 2011, Afghanistan was
known as the most dangerous place in the world for a girl to be born (Kissane). Malala Yousufzai,
a female education activist was also a victim of war. Yousufazi was shot in the head and neck for
advocating for girls and their rights to have access to education. Similarly, to Yousufzai many
women in Afghanistan stand up for their entitlement to having equality. Those courageous women
often become victims of abuse and are often killed. Investing in girls education is critical, not
only is it life altering for a girl s future, but it s also poses benefits to society. By allowing Afghan
girls access to educating we are also promoting better socioeconomic s, a reduction in child
marriages, and an improvement in mortality rates.
Afghanistan is one of the poorest countries in the world. Three decades of war has subjected
Afghans to harsh living conditions. Leaving most with insufficient resources to survive. Many
women are left widowed, and are obligated to provide for their families,

Gender Advertisements Erving Goffman Summary
As well as feeding off of the sources and material presented earlier in this paper, the analysis to
come will also use Erving Goffman s categorisation of gender to analyse how the women (and
some men) are depicted on the front covers of Playboy and Good Housekeeping within said
timeframe. In his study GenderAdvertisements (Goffman, 1985), Goffman gathered hundreds of
advertisements from magazines in various positions and poses and analysed poses and how they
portrayed masculinity versus femininity. His way of analysing advertisement differentiates itself
and makes a broader distinction of what is considered sexist or not, by showing much like the
Heterosexual Script earlier on in the paper, what was considered appropriate roles for men and
women.
In Goffman s analysis of advertisements he suggests several variables used when analysing a
depiction of both men and women. Relative size suggests women are often positioned lower than a
man, both in height and size, which can often also propose they are lower in both physical and
social standard. Feminine touch shows women carefully caressing an object, or even themselves by
touch. Showing a clear distinction between the utilitarian grip men usually have, and the decorative
touch women more often have. Function Ranking is when there is often both a man and a woman,
and at first glance they might seem to be executing a function, but at a closer look the woman is
again more of a decorative part of the picture, looking at

We find her concern for Macbeth again in Act III, Scene II, when she tries to cheer up her

not reveal his plans of murdering Banquo and Fleance, the understanding between him and his
wife is so perfect that she can easily read the thoughts in her husband s mind. Macbeth knows
quite well of the feminine qualities of his wife. So in Act III, Scene II, he decides to protect her

pneumonia increases healthcare costs by more than $40,000 per hospitalized patient (Lisboa,
Kollef, Rello, 2008). Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services plan to stop paying hospitals
for necessary care caused by preventable complications including nosocomial infections resulting
in unintended fiscal circumstances (Lisboa et al.). 2 The Centers for Disease Control (CDC)
established recommended guidelines to decrease the risk of VAP. It is these best practice
interventions that nurses should follow when caring for mechanically ventilated patients. The 2003
CDC guidelines reported that 63% of admitted patients in the ICU have oral colonization
associated with a pathogen resulting from VAP (Cason, Tyner, Saunders, Broome, 2007). The
CDC provided a set of seven guidelines to reduce risks related to hand washing, wearing gloves,
suctioning, elevated head of bed (HOB), education, oral hygiene program, and use of antiseptic
rinse. Studies suggested that best practices for reducing VAP were not consistently implemented.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and gram positive
Staphylococcus aureus were the two most common bacteria linked to VAP (Babcock et al., 2004).

John De A Position Of Infamy
Travis R. Leverett Dr. Hertzel Historical Research and Writing 6 April 2015 John Dean: A
Position of Infamy In the early 1970 s, American s social climate was changing. The previous
decade brought the senseless assassination of a young, vibrant President, John Fitzgerald
Kennedy. On the heels of his assassination came the assassination of his assassin, Lee Harvey
Oswald; leaving America working through a series of questioning and wondering why. Citizens
witnessed the violence across the country, as African Americans fought for civil rights, and they
saw President Lyndon Baines Johnson sign the Civil Rights Act into law. Over seas, America
was involved in an unpopular war in Vietnam. Young Americans did not understand why there
was an American presence there, and yet they were being drafted, and made to fight. Protests
against the war were held on college and university campuses across the country. The cold war
with the Soviet Union was alive and well, and one year into a newly elected President s term,
America s National Aeronautics and Space Administration had put a man on the moon. This man
who was newly elected to help America out of the darkness was Richard Milhous Nixon, elected
to this his first term in November, 1968. The first term was positive and 1972 brought promise of
a second term, with President Nixon and his staff looking to lead America for another four years.

The Marshmallow Effect
Marshmallow Effect Scientists often attribute adaptive and goal directed human behavior to an
intellectual control system that organizes, monitors, and alters the settings of lower level
perceptive processes. This allows people to suppress or replace impulsive, habitual, or
inappropriate actions. The Marshmallow Effect is an experiment conducted by psychologist Walter
Mischel in the 1970 s to study self control in children (Walter, 2013). This experiment is a simple
but effective when it comes to the modern study of the human ability to delay gratification. The
studies are about achievement situations and what influences a child to reach his or her choice.

Statistics Can Reduce Internet Fraud Essay
Many online auction sites help consumers bid on items they might want to possess. These sites
include eBay, WebStore, ebid, OnlineAuction, OZtion, Overstock, and a whole slew of others.
Currently there is no system to protect consumers from fraudulent sales. When someone bids for an
item, consumers trust both the seller and the online auctioneer to be both honest and ethical when
presenting items for bid. Many of the auctionhouses, including Sotheby s and Christie s have their
experts examine each piece to prove authenticity. However, it is not all bad news. To help protect
consumers from fraud, Joseph Gastwirth and Wesley Johnson have found that the use of statistics
answers the problem of authenticity. Joseph... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

My senior project was over the History of Tattooing, I chose this as my topic because Tattoos

Globalization The Super Story By Thomas Friedman Analysis
We are said to be living in a world with a transparent and yet to develop war. But how can anyone
really see it and understand it if no one is aware of how tragic events happen, who and how many
people, countries and nations are behind it and how it all connects to technology. At least, that is
what Thomas L. Freidman writes about in his article Globalization: The Super Story . Friedman s
article was a very interesting read, especially since it touches upon some pretty dense and forgotten
subjects, such as global politics, technology and history. When I read the title of this article I
expected Friedman to discuss about global markets and the interaction of nations yet I was amazed
when he expanded on the supermarkets and how globalization... Show more content on

The definition is excellent in describing the system that is present today. Friedman pointed out
that markets around the globe become intertwined into one web of connectivity, where one
company in North America can easily interact and do business with an individual in Asia, and
create profits. However, the inter connectivity I believe in has more to it. Going beyond what
Friedman stated, I argue that the globalization of world markets not only helps the existing large
financial centers of the world, but also smaller, and often times, newer markets. While I do not
agree with the outsourcing of jobs, the factories moved to lower wage countries is a benefit to
people working, and living there. It offers employment, and a life to the workers that they would
have never had if the factories were never sent there. It helps the poorer nations in developing an
economy, and become part of the global market. Friedman said that Supermarkets can destroy
nations (473), but its power could also aid the poorer nations to grow and even maybe, join the

Examples Of Argumentative Essay On The Great Gatsby
The Great Gatsby Argumentative Essay
In the novel the Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the observations of the character named Nick

the glamour and parties. It displays a wondrous era full of wealth. Even though money is the key

The roaring twenties was a era that defines the word magnetism. It attracts people to this day

era. He could acquire anything he desires at any moment needed. Although, once time passes the
desires become a normality. The excitement of obtaining a new object or going to explore seize.

My Life as a Furry Red Monster by Kevin Clash
RESEARCH/BACKGROUND/TIMELINE
Kevin Clash was not a household name, but a household voice. In 1983, Clash became the voice
of Elmo on the iconic television program Sesame Street. In 2006, Kevin Clash released a book
called My Life as a Furry Red Monster. This was the first time that the public began to know the
person behind the voice of Elmo. In a way you can say that Clash was the one to bring life and
energy to Elmo. Elmo was not even a main character on Sesame Street until Clash took over. In
2011, he also release Being Elmo: A Puppeteer s Journey, which includes rare footage, and behind
the scenes look at Sesame Street and the Jim Henson Workshop.
However, in November 2012 his career came to a halt when he was accused of having sexually
abusive relationships with underage boys. Sheldon Stephens was the first accuser and claimed
they had a sexual relationship when he was 16 years old. Clash denied any wrongdoing but did
admit to the relationship. He maintained that the relationship was consensual. Stephens retracted
his statement, but the accusations damaged Clash s reputation. Stephens going public with this
information lead to three other males filing lawsuits against Clash for the same crime. Cecil
Singleton, Kevin Kiadii and one known as S.M. all claimed Clash sexually abused them when they
were under the age of 18 (NY Daily News). A judge dismissed all cases because they were filed
after the six year statute of limitations had expired (NY Daily News).

The Wicked Problem Of Human Trafficking
Human Trafficking
Human trafficking is known worldwide as the modern day form of slavery. According to several
sources, 20 30 million people are currently enslaved or trafficked all around the world. This
includes groups of people or individuals being held against their will. Human trafficking can be
described as the use of force or fraud in order to gain control over another person. Over time, the
wicked problem has grown exponentially due to the supply and demand of things. By spreading
awareness and facts, human trafficking, as a wicked problem, could be controlled in the future.
A wicked problem is a cultural and social issue that is extremely difficult, nearly impossible to
solve due four reasons: lack of knowledge, unknown number of people involved, economic burden,
and problems connecting to other problems. Human trafficking involves desperate victims seeking
for opportunities. Victims attempt to find better jobs due to the poor conditions they live in. The
new figure is based on ILO data published in 2012 that estimated the number of people in forced
labour, trafficking and modern slavery at 21 million (Economics of forced labour, 2016) Each
year, the number of victims being trafficked increases, and it is difficult to find a ways to stops this
wicked problem when there the traffickers are finding ways to send victims to other countries

Between the years 1763 and 1776, the British enforced many new laws that caused the colonials
to deepen their resistance. Some of the new laws that caused an uproar involving the colonist

ways the British Parliament laws intensified colonials resistance to British governing and their

April 5, 1764, the Sugar Act was designed by Parliament to raise revenue from the American

Why Is Spanking Wrong
To spank or not to spank has been a question for parents for many years. Some believe that
spanking is the only way that children will learn to be obedient. They believe in the motto spare
the rod, spoil the child , meaning if parents do not physically discipline, the child is spoiled and
lacks manners. Others, however, believe that exerting physical harm on a child for discipline does
not make sense. They believe that there is always a better way to teach children right from wrong.
Spankingis not an effective form of discipline and can lead to improper behavior.

Editors remarked that in, Spanking Your Children: Good or Bad , the CED studied how

children are spanked, the less they are likely to be mannerly, and well behaved in the future.
They continued on by stating, Spanking does not teach children why their behavior was wrong

negative reaction, but a mental one too. CNN mentions that for decades experts have stated that
spanking is not effective because it teaches a child to be scared of his parents and to not respect
them (O Callaghan, 2011). In fact it is dangerous because hitting can injure a child and teach him

Write An Essay On Water Erosion
Water Erosion
Background
Erosion is the wearing away of sand soil or rock by water, or wind. Water erosion is the separation
and removal of soil. Water erosion occurs by rain carrying away bits of soil and slowly washing
away rock fragments (Society). Rushing streams and rivers wear away their banks, creating larger
and larger valleys. Water erosioncan occur on streams, river banks, sea shores and seaside cliffs.
There are also different types of water erosion like sheet erosion. Sheet erosion is when water
washes away soil from the surface. Another type of water erosion is splash erosion. Splash
erosion is the movement of soil by a water droplet. Water erosion occurs more frequently in the
spring because it rains more, the rain then washes away rock fragments. An example of water
erosion is the colorado river. It cut deep into the land and formed the grand canyon.
Purpose
The purpose of this experiment is to examine the impact of water erosion on soil due to splash
erosion.
Hypothesis
If the height of the water increases then the amount of soil erosion will increase because the speed
of the water will create more pressure on the soil causing the soil to move further.
Procedure
Get a 600mL beaker and measure out 500mL of soil
Grab a tray and place the soil on the tray. Flip the beaker upside down on the tray and remove the
beaker so that there is a pile of dirt on the tray.
Measure the height of the dirt. It should be 2 inches tall.
Grab a 250 mL graduated cylinder

Age Of Enlightenment Essay
Throughout history mankind has transformed into a highly developed and cultured society, driven
on the foundations of one vital key factor in our evolution that set humans apart from other species
entirely, the ability to think. If humans did not possess the ability to think, there would be no
change or development of our species as a whole and individually. By challenging the natural
process of evolution and defying the odds, humans carved their way into this world to leave their
mark. A time period in history where thinking began to dig deeper and defining one s philosophical
thoughts became a prevalent and popular subject to indulge in was The Age of Enlightenment .
During this age, many philosophers who studied the fundamental nature... Show more content on

The Production Of Lean Manufacture And How It Can Be...
Literature Review
Introduction
The purpose of this literary review is to achieve insight into lean manufacture and how it can be
applied within a manufacturing environment. With global contention, it is important for maker to
remain competitive in their respective marketplace and to understand the principles of lean
manufacturing and the step to implement them to ensure that they are on the leading edge of
manufacturing. This literary review describes the below mention principles.
Birth place of lean and Origins of mass production
Fred Winslow Taylor, a foundry manager from Philadelphia, lay the foundation for mass yield
(Dennis, 2002). He was the first to systematically apply scientific principles to manufacturing. His
many innovations involved: Standardized work classifying the finest and easiest way to do the
business; Reduced cycle meter the time it takes for a given process; Time and question study a
peter for developing standardized work; Measure and analysis to continually improve the process.
The Francis Scott Key to mass production was not the assembly credit line (Dennis, 2002). Rather,
it was the thorough interchangeability of region and ease of assembly. These innovations, in bout,
make the assembly line possible.
Henry Fords conveyor system at the Ford plant, allowed for mass production (Tapping,2007). The
moving assembly line brought the car past the stationary worker. (Dennis, 2002) The assembly line

Socioeconomic Inequality Of High School Dropout Rates
There are clear racial and economic disparities that exist in regards to high school dropout rates.
Researchers found that African American and Hispanic students experience higher rates of
dropouts compared to White students. In 2012, the dropout rate for African Americans was 7.5
percent. For the Hispanic population it was 12.7 percent, and for Native Americans it was 14.6
percent. All of these rates of minority dropoutwhich are all significantly higher than the rates of
Whites and Asians/Pacific Islanders (United State Department of Education, 2015). This was also
true for students living in low income families. They maintained greater rates of dropping out with

High school dropout is not an issue that solely affects North Carolina. In fact, the term dropout
factory is one that can be found in research articles and news reports across the country. This term
has been ascribed to as many as 1,700 high schools nationally (Tyler Lofstrom, 2009). With this
volume of schools being labeled as schools that allow, and possibly even stimulate, large number of
students not to continue onto graduation with their peers, the question is posed; why are students
dropping out? This question does not have one answer, but rather several factors both within and
without of the school s control.
In North Carolina a student can legally stop going to school at the age of 16. However, this is not a
decision that students hastily make, rather it is a gradual process of disengagement (Bridgeland,
DiLulio Jr. Morison, 2006). There are many reasons as to why these students choose to dropout,
including extenuating circumstances they may not be able to control. North Carolina requires a
majority of their districts to have school social workers or counselors document the reasons students
provide for dropping out of school. These reasons vary from school attendance having the highest
percentage of 40.3, community college enrollment, conflicts with work, unstable home
environment, change of location, need to care for children, and incarceration (Public Schools of
North Carolina, 2015).
The literature refers to three factors that cause students not

Summary Of The Novel O Pioneers ! By Willa Cather
Willa Cather is an author who uses similar aspects and events of her life and puts them into her
novels. This approach allows the reader to know what inspired the events happening throughout the
novel. After reading the novel O Pioneers! by Willa Cather, I began to search for ideas leading me
deeper into the meaning of the novelas a whole. O Pioneers! is a novel in which several of the key
concepts and characterqualities can be better understood by learning more about the life of Willa
Cather. Aspects of O Pioneers! that involve the life of Willa Cather include where the novel is
taking place, the description of Alexandra s disposition, and the dominance Alexandra exhibits in
her family.
Willa Cather decides to have the setting of the novel take place in Hanover, Nebraska. She is
very familiar with Nebraska because after her family moved from Virginia, this is where she
grew up as a young child and attended school (Baughman par. 2). At the start of the novel,
Hanover, Nebraska is, A cluster of low drab buildings huddled on the gray prairie, under a gray
sky (Cather 1.1.1). The town is being given a strong, gloomy, and dark feeling similar to what her
childhood must have been like. We then begin to see glimpses of this appear when we introduce
the main character Alexandra and life in Hanover. Alexandra state s, Three big Bohemians were
drinking raw alcohol, tinctured with oil of cinnamon. This was said to fortify one effectually
against the cold, and they smacked

The Shawshank Redemption By Frank Darabont Essay
This paper discusses The Shawshank Redemption, a 1994 American movie written and directed
by Frank Darabont, and starring Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman. The movie was chosen
because it tells that vision, strong values and obligation are key factors of personal and
organizational success. The movie tells the story of Andy is a successful banker whose life
changes radically when he is sentenced and punished to life custody for the murder of his wife and
her lover. Indeed, The Shawshank Redemptioninspects a chain of conflicts: guilt and innocence,
cruelty and charity, freedom and imprisonment.
The characters of the movie:
Ellis Boyd Red Redding, the storyteller, a convicted murderer serving a life judgement. Red is a
key figure inside prison, a lifeline to the outside world who can smuggle almost anything into
the prison for a price. Red is a transactional leader. Andy Dufresne, is a banker erroneously
imprisoned for the killing of his wife. He is the main character and the hero of the movie. He is a
transformational leader, intelligent, influential, and inspirational to the group of prisoners. He
embodies the story s strongest theme: Hope. Samuel Norton, one of the custodians. Norton that
forces prisoners to work on chain gains to repair roads and public buildings. Even though he
claims to be a sincere Baptist, he takes bribes from local construction. He uses Andy s financial
proficiency to hide his illegal earnings and therefore refuses to help Andy win a

Loman American Dream
In Death of a Salesman, by Arthur Miller, a man named Willy Loman struggles with the
changing American dynamic and his impending mental deterioration. Loman is a sixty three year
old salesman during the late 1940 s. He is the father of two sons, Biff and Happy, and the
husband to Linda Loman. During this time period, Americans were still adjusting to the post war
era where two generations of American ideas clashed, the traditional and modern American
Dream. The old, traditional dream included working one s way up to success through popularity
and wealth. The new American Dream does not focus on jobs such as a salesman but sees low
skill jobs, like a carpenter, as successful and making one accomplished in life. Willy Loman s

The two characters in the play that were wrong about why Willy failed are his wife, Linda
Loman, and his brother in law, Charley. Charley believed Willy was a real salesman, one who
knew that if you can not sell you can not succeed. He saw Loman falling apart and figured it was
due to the new American generation. If it was not for the changing times, Willy would not be
confused and would have been able to find, and achieve, his American Dream for both himself
and his family. The article, The Relationship between Willy and Linda , explains Loman and his
wife s relationship. Linda is completely devoted to her husband, yet Willy treats her with little
respect. Loman often cut her off or spoke down to his wife when she would try to help a
situation. When Biff talks about seeing his old boss for a job, Linda started to say, Oliver always
thought the highest of him . . . (Miller 65) until Willy cut in, Will you let me talk? (Miller 65).
Even with the disrespect to Linda, she decides to blame everyone else for her husband s failures and
issues, not fully understanding that Willy s mental deterioration is from his realization of not
fulfilling an American Dream. Anytime Willy wants to evaluate himself honestly, Linda just tells
lies to release his tension and increase his incorrect views (www.eng.fju.edu.tw.com). Linda gets

Once inverted, built up gas was released by turning the stopcock to its opened and closed
positions. This was repeated for about four times in one minute intervals. Then the layers were
allowed to settle until a separation between liquids could be observed. Due to the low density of
the product, the top layer was to be extracted. The bottom layer was carefully and slowly
extracted out of the separatory funnel. The crude product was washed by taking the reaction
product in the separatory funnel and adding 23 mL of deionized H2O. The mixture was shaken
and allowed to settle until layers were observable. The top layer was the desired product and
approximately 25 mL of aqueous layer was extracted from the separatory funnel. Next, 25 mL of
5% NaHCO3 was added to the separatory funnel in order to neutralize the acid. This mixture was
swirled, plugged with the stopper and inverted. Built up gas was released by turning the
stopcock to its opened and closed positions, releasing CO2 by product. This was done four times
in one minute intervals. The solution was allowed to settle until layers were observable. The
bottom layer that contained salt, base and water was extracted from the separatory funnel. The
crude product was washed again as mentioned previously. The wet, crude product was placed into
the 50 mL Erlenmeyer flask. Small amounts of CaCl2 were added to dry the solution. The flask

The “Roaring 20’S” And The “Jazz Age” Produced

The roaring 20 s and the Jazz Age produced great literature. The characters and plots were often
held together by images, ideas, sounds or words that help a reader understand an idea and help
to explain the central idea of a literary work. F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby is full of rich
symbols. Like many of the most interesting symbols, the green light changes and develops its
meaning through the novel. The green light that is displayed at the end of Daisy and Tom s East
egg dock, is the symbol of Gatsby s hopes and dreams. In Chapter 1, Nick observes Gatsby one
night: Something in his leisurely movements and the secure position of his feet upon the lawn

Compared to the great distance that separated him from Daisy it had seemed very near to her,
almost touching her. It had seemed as close as a star to the moon. Now it was again a green light
on a dock. His count of enchanted objects had diminished by one (93). The symbol changes for
Gatsby because the present Daisy is different than the Daisy from the past that he fell in love
with in Louisville. In addition to this strong literary symbol, another great one is Dr. TJ
Eckleburg and the Valley of Ashes. The eyes of Doctor T. J. Eckleburg are: blue and gigantic
their retinas are one yard high. They look out of no face, but, instead, from a pair of enormous
yellow spectacles which pass over a nonexistent nose. Evidently, some wild wag of an oculist set
them there to fatten his practice in the borough of Queens, and then sank down himself into eternal
blindness, or forgot them and moved away. But his eyes dimmed a little by many paintless days
under sun and rain, brood on over the solemn dumping ground (24). Some readers may pick up that
the billboard represents God s eyes looking down on the society judging America s morals.Instead,
throughout the novel, Fitzgerald suggests that the mere essence of Dr. TJ Eckleburg symbolizes
deprivation of the American soul. The billboard is placed there to encourage business; however, it
lays untidy and abandoned. Also with the

The Origin Of Eugenics
EUGENICS
The origin of eugenics is strongly rooted to the emergence of Darwinism in the late nineteenth
century. Eugenics would seek increased stronger, healthy, intelligent people or specific ethnic or
social group to which directly or indirectly promotes non procreation of those who do not possess
these qualities coming to regard their application as an advantage in saving resources economic for
countries. In this sense it would be related to Malthusianism, the natalist and nationalism. The
methods of eugenics nineteenth and early twentieth century ranged from forced sterilization to
genocide. Modern eugenicists methods focus on prenatal diagnosis and fetal exploration, genetic
counseling, in vitro fertilization and genetic engineering.

What s Good About Palestine
What s Good About Palestine
Palestine s attributes; like the atmosphere, culture, and cuisine cause it to be a great country. I
have lived in both America and Palestine for a very long time so I have enough knowledge about
the two to differentiate between them. I was born and raised in Palestine so, of course, it holds a
special place in my heart. Palestine is not perfect, just like any other countries there are some bad
things about it, but the good qualities outweigh the bad ones.
The people in Palestine are some of the friendliest, most enthusiastic people I have ever met.
Whether you are sitting on your front porch, shopping for groceries, or out taking a walk, if
anyone walks past you, they will stop and say hello and have a conversation with you. There s
something refreshing about a friendly hello in Palestine, I do not that feel here in America. People
here are not as friendly as the ones in Palestine. Sometimes when I am out in America, I smile at
people and they do not even smile back here. You can feel that Palestinian peopleare genuinely
nice; they greet each other, they have small talk, and they care about the well being of one another,
unlike the people in America. Palestinian people do not discriminate against race or religion, or
differentiate between social status. You can always count on Palestinian people to invite to their
house and over feed you with sweets, because that truly is Palestinian hospitality.

Feminism In Pygmalion
Pygmalion
(...through a Feminist Lens)
Pygmalion was written to challenge the class system, traditional stereotypes and the audience s own
views.
To begin with, George Bernard Shaw was an early and outspoken advocate for the rights of
women, and as a playwright he created some of the most distinctive women characters of his day.
He was deeply influenced in this aspect of his writing by Henrik Ibsen.
This play deals with a lot many themes. To cite a few: Rewriting the tale of Cinderella and Sleeping
beauty, Class, language and phonetics and Independence.
From the very beginning of the play, we can see the unequal relationship between Mr. Higgins (the
man) and Eliza (the woman). This difference can be seen by the parallelism between these two ...

She retorts back by replying, You want me back only to pick up your slippers and put up with
your tempers and fetch and carry for you. Eliza is mere domestic helper for Higgins, a helping
hand to Mrs. Pearce even if Eliza can be much more than that. This is the crude reality of the
patriarchal setup. Women, how much ever is qualified, is better than the opposite genderwhen it
comes to education, the opposite sex will always take her as a house maid or a person working
under him.
Eliza, in the climax scene vulnerably asks Higgins, why he made her a sophisticated Duchess if
her never cared for her, and why did not he thought of the trouble it would make for her, on which
Higgins shocking reply says:
Would the world ever have been made if its makes had been afraid of making trouble? (Act V,
127) Making life means making troubles. He still finds faults with Eliza, you are an idiot I waste
the treasures of my Miltonic mind by spreading them before you. Higgins thus suffers from
intellectual snobbery. He belongs to the world of Shakespeare and Milton.
All throughout the play, Higgins behave rude with Eliza. Eliza, in the last act as a representative of
all women trapped in patriarchal setup says the below quote to Higgins, who is the representative
of all the patriarchal men in the

Dietary Supplements Can Damage the Liver
Many people use dietary supplements to boost their health and prevent disease. It is reported
that up to 40% of adults use at least one over the counter dietary supplement daily and most of
these people do not ask or inform their doctors about taking these supplements. Herbal and
nonherbal health supplements are popular because some people believe it is easier to take these
than to buy and prepare healthy meals, especially when they are busy with work or if quality
foods are not easily available. To others, taking specific food supplements is a means to increase
immunity to certain diseases, support bodybuilding, or achieve weight loss. Some health care
providers recommend taking dietary supplements to replace nutritional deficiencies but most
experts advise consuming a healthy, balance diet that provides most of the nutrients one needs to
maintain health. Supplements that can Damage the Liver Studies show that certain dietary
supplements, especially vitamins, minerals and antioxidants have many health benefits, which
includes prevention of cancer, heart disease, and diabetes. However, experts warn that some
herbal and dietary supplements have side effects, especially when taken in large doses or if they
are taken for long periods. Research shows that almost 20% of all liver injuries recorded from
2003 2011 are associated with chronic intake of certain herbal and dietary supplements. The worst
offenders are bodybuilding supplements, which was linked to 34%, and

Dorothy Day Research Paper
Courage is a cardinal virtue every human being needs. Courage is doing something frightening
you are for the right being even if you are alone in your belief. Many regular humans have used
courage also. For example Dr. Martin Luther King jr. stood up for all African Americans, even
though almost everyone did not agree with him. He eventually helped end segregation by
raising awareness. Sadly, Dr. Martin Luther King jr. was killed just for his beliefs. Today we
celebrate a holiday for his great bravery. Bravery is a synonym of courage. Almost all saints in their
life have shown courage. One saint that had courage was Saint Francis of Assisi. Saint Francis was
a rich man, however he ignored all his money for God. He gave up his wealthy life just for his
savior. Saint Francis would help sick people just like how Jesusdid. He would approach Lepore s
even if people thought he was crazy. Saint Francis of Assisi was a brave soldier in the army,
having no fear knowing that God was present with him. Saint Maximilian Kolbe had a vision of
Mary and she was holding two crowns, and he had to choose one. Later on his his life he was...

  • 2. Uniforms Should Not Wear School Uniforms During every school year, the issue on if school officials should or should not entail students to wear uniforms in school is a constant debate among the parents and staff members in school districts. Just like any other controversial issues, there are two sides to the argument representing both the good and bad points that exist behind student being required to wear uniforms in school. Although it can take students time to adjust to transitioning into the policy of being required to wear uniforms in school when it is first enforced, the benefits that come from them makes it all worth the hassle. Individuals against the idea of students being required to wear uniforms in school, often fail to see the bigger picture at hand. Uniforms help with removing negative situations in schools, along with helping parents save time and money. For over a decade now school districts in the United States have enforced dress codes on students, that has led up to students being required to wear uniforms in school. It all started in the 1950 s when girls were not allowed to wear pants in school, leaving them to only be allowed to wear skirts or dresses (McVeigh, pg.85). The 1950 s was not the only period in history leading up to the beginning of school uniforms. In 1960 s it was unacceptable for the boy to wear blue jeans, black leather jackets, and other accessories associated with gangs in school (McVeigh, pg.85). It wasn t until the late 1980 s that dress code policy really began to spread, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Their Eyes Were Watching God As George Bernard Shaw once said, [l]ife isn t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself. Existence is a series of experience that define societies. From childhood to adulthood, people are expressed by moments. However, no occurrence is more significant than death. In Zora Neale Hurston s famous novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God, the main character Janie Crawford is plagued by the deaths of loved ones. Janie moves from caregiver to caregiver searching for true loveand happiness, only to have it stripped away from her once she finds it in her third husband Tea Cake. At the end of the novel, having realized true love and loss, Janie is a whole woman. Their Eyes Were Watching God portrays the growth of the human spirit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To Nanny, a woman who was dominated by slavery, there is no companionship for women to experience, only hardship. Janie is reminded of Nanny s ideals after the death of her second husband Joe when a man from Eatonville voices, Uh woman by herself is a pitiful thing... Dey needs aid and assistance. God never meant em tuh try tuh stand by theirselves (Hurston 90). Despite Janie s constant questioning about Logan Killicks, Nanny realizes love does not beget marriage. Tracy Bealer states, Nanny s experiences with institutionalized racism and pervasive misogyny teach her that for black women, erotic love is infused with shame, physical pain, and unsatisfying labor (315). Inevitably, Nanny begins to teach Janie what her place in the world is, under man. Janie is a young girl, and after kissing Johnnie Taylor she can only think about love. So Nanny tells her love does not exist in marriage and to forget about searching for her dreams. Janie would carry this belief into her first marriage, allowing Nanny s fear of death and her own fear of loneliness to guide her into adulthood. Janie holds onto these fears long after her grandmother s death. Fearing her own death, when Nanny begins to see Janie maturing naturally into a young woman she forcefully shoves her into adulthood by giving her rights as a guardian to Logan Killicks. When Nanny caught Janie ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Car Tuning The modification of company manufactured vehicles, otherwise known as Car Tuning , has become increasingly widespread over the past few years. It has developed from industry application into being a popular hobby in which cars are modified by their owners in order to optimize performance, handling and perhaps add a personal touch. This type of activity might be mistaken by many to be reserved for racing junkies , but if we take a closer look, it actually proves to be quite beneficial in terms of fuel consumption and safety. Superchargers or turbochargers are known to increase engine efficiency and power, whereas advanced suspension and braking tend to drastically upgrade handling and thus safety. A carefully designed exhaust system can... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A spark plug ignites the mixture and the combustion takes place. In this phase, timing is crucial since the spark must occur when the air/fuel mixture is compressed to the optimal point. Else, the combustion will not work as effectively as it should. Once the combustion takes place, the piston is pushed back down Now, the exhaust valves evacuate the product of the combustion and the engine is ready for another cycle. Here, we notice the importance of the valves that must open at the correct time to fill the combustion chamber and then to clear this chamber from the product of the combustion. The timing of the valves is controlled by the Cam Shaft. This part of the engine decides on the correct timing: thus filling the combustion chamber when needed and evacuating it when it is full. Factory, or stock , cars are made for average driving conditions and driver expectations. Sacrifices in performance, efficiency, and even handling are made for more comfort (Wikipedia). Car tuning is not yet very popular among people especially here in Lebanon. While people may think that car tuning is only for race junkies , the fact is that it actually improves the efficiency, performance, handling, and power of the car. The personal motive behind car tuning is usually personalizing the car to suit its owner s needs, driving style, and personality. Engine efficiency is a major issue in the car industry. Instead of completely replacing an engine by a bigger and more powerful ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Slow economic growth combined with a still high population growth has kept the Philippines per capita income lagging behind those of its regional neighbors. The urgency to recover lost ground is, therefore, clear. Although the economy has improved, the growth forecast for the immediate future is less reassuring. The challenge is how to stay on course and sustain the momentum in the face of what appears to be a prolonged slowdown in the world economy and the precarious state of public finances. To meet this challenge, the Philippine Government has formulated a macroeconomic program for stability and growth with equity. At the core of this program is a poverty reduction agenda anchored on redistributing economic opportunities, protecting the vulnerable, and enhancing the capabilities of the poor to participate in decision making. The nature, composition and causes of poverty in the Philippines as well as the responses required to eliminate poverty have been discussed amongst representatives of Government, civil society, the private sector, and the international donor community at several forums. The most important among these forums are the five island wide multi sectoral consultation workshops to discuss the draft NAAA in 2000, the Employment Summit in Manila in March 2001, and the various consultative meetings and workshops for the ... • 9. Piecewise Registration Techniques A major problem with piecewise registration technique is the smoothness between neighboring pieces, which we refer to as the inter piece smoothness. Due to the use of nonlinear models in local pieces, the smoothness within each piece should also be considered, which we refer to as the intra piece smoothness. We propose a systematic strategy to ensure the smoothness and diffeomorphism of the estimated deformation field. Subsection{Piece Overlapping Constraint} In order to reduce the estimation difference between neighboring pieces, a piece overlapping constraint is proposed. It is based on the piece expansion scheme introduced in Subsection [chap3:sec2:piecewise_model_framework]. This constraint corresponds to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Note that the computation of the mean SD only needs to be done once for both f and g. An image composed of such values can be warped based on the estimated deformation field to decide confidence factors used in later stages. Regularization term [eq:piece_overlap_1] is summed up for all pieces to provide inter piece smoothness constraint. It should be noted that this added term only ensures the the estimation discontinuities being minimized but not completely eliminated. Therefore, the estimated local deformations are interpolated in order to obtain a global deformation field at the end of each subdivision level. The final deformation field is obtained by composing deformations obtained at each subdivision level. Talli s History and Description of the Crystal Palace and the Exhibition of the World s Industry in 1851 From 1837 to 1901, under the reign of Queen Victoria, Great Britain, with the supremacy of its Royal Navy, had largely fulfilled its ambition of global imperial expansion in Asia and Africa particularly. As the British Empiresoon became the largest empire in history, this era was later known as the Victorian Era (John 129). To further unite nations and demonstrate an imperial industrial and economic leadership of the world, Queen Victoria s husband, Prince Albert organized the first world s fair, namely, The Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of All Nations , at the Crystal Palace in Hyde Park, London, from May 1 to October 15 in 1851 (Celik 1). Not only did the diversity of the foreign goods displayed at the exhibition astonish the publics, but also the Crystal Palace, designed by Joseph Paxton and Owen Jones, as the striking structure that housed these articles attracted millions of visitors around the world during 1851 (Fig. 1). Later after the exhibition, the foreign articles were transferred to the South Kensington Museum (Crinson 65) as part of the Imperial archive (Barringer 11), to promote industrial and commercial education among domestic artisans and skilled labourers in the next fifty years, with a hope that the nation s economic growth ... The beauty of these artist works often overshadows the historic context that funded, supplied, inspired this art and design movement. The transformation art and design in Brussels during this time was a product of imperialism and genocide sanctioned by King Leopold II of Belgium, through the exploitation and appropriation Congolese culture and raw materials. Born in Brussels, Belgium in 1835, Leopold II became the second king of Belgium at the age of 30 [Fig1]. Belgium was a young country with an equally small economy and population. Striving to compete the economic success of Britain and Germany, Leopold II would turn his attention towards Africa, with the purpose of establishing Belgium as a world power, during a time of imperial growth, which coincided, with the expiation of Art Nouveau in Europe. To acquire the land, raw materials, and population of twenty million; Leopold II effectively established control of the Congo through economic and political means. Leopold II was one of the first European rulers to attempt to develop this area and would successfully obtain it in 1885, creating the Congo Free State (Frost 2001). • 15. Educating Afghan Girls Education Educating Afghan Girls Education is one of the most important contributors to having a successful future. In developed countries such as North America boys and girls are fortunate enough to have access to an unbiased education system. Therefore, allowing children to have countless opportunities. However, in countries like Afghanistan girls are marginalized and neglected the right to learn. Afghanistan is a country of war, where women and girls are often the worst victims. In 2011, Afghanistan was known as the most dangerous place in the world for a girl to be born (Kissane). Malala Yousufzai, a female education activist was also a victim of war. Yousufazi was shot in the head and neck for advocating for girls and their rights to have access to education. Similarly, to Yousufzai many women in Afghanistan stand up for their entitlement to having equality. Those courageous women often become victims of abuse and are often killed. Investing in girls education is critical, not only is it life altering for a girl s future, but it s also poses benefits to society. Gender Advertisements Erving Goffman Summary As well as feeding off of the sources and material presented earlier in this paper, the analysis to come will also use Erving Goffman s categorisation of gender to analyse how the women (and some men) are depicted on the front covers of Playboy and Good Housekeeping within said timeframe. In his study GenderAdvertisements (Goffman, 1985), Goffman gathered hundreds of advertisements from magazines in various positions and poses and analysed poses and how they portrayed masculinity versus femininity. His way of analysing advertisement differentiates itself and makes a broader distinction of what is considered sexist or not, by showing much like the Heterosexual Script earlier on in the paper, what was considered appropriate roles for men and women. In Goffman s analysis of advertisements he suggests several variables used when analysing a depiction of both men and women. Relative size suggests women are often positioned lower than a man, both in height and size, which can often also propose they are lower in both physical and social standard. Feminine touch shows women carefully caressing an object, or even themselves by touch. Showing a clear distinction between the utilitarian grip men usually have, and the decorative touch women more often have. Function Ranking is when there is often both a man and a woman, and at first glance they might seem to be executing a function, but at a closer look the woman is again more of a decorative part of the picture, looking at ... VAP is a growing problem in health care facilities which increases the cost of patient care and increases patient care time, hospital length of stay, and patient morbidity. Ventilator associated pneumonia increases healthcare costs by more than $40,000 per hospitalized patient (Lisboa, Kollef, Rello, 2008). Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services plan to stop paying hospitals for necessary care caused by preventable complications including nosocomial infections resulting in unintended fiscal circumstances (Lisboa et al.). 2 The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) established recommended guidelines to decrease the risk of VAP. The 2003 CDC guidelines reported that 63% of admitted patients in the ICU have oral colonization associated with a pathogen resulting from VAP (Cason, Tyner, Saunders, Broome, 2007). But how can anyone really see it and understand it if no one is aware of how tragic events happen, who and how many people, countries and nations are behind it and how it all connects to technology. At least, that is what Thomas L. Freidman writes about in his article Globalization: The Super Story . Friedman s article was a very interesting read, especially since it touches upon some pretty dense and forgotten subjects, such as global politics, technology and history. Going beyond what Friedman stated, I argue that the globalization of world markets not only helps the existing large financial centers of the world, but also smaller, and often times, newer markets. While I do not agree with the outsourcing of jobs, the factories moved to lower wage countries is a benefit to people working, and living there. It offers employment, and a life to the workers that they would have never had if the factories were never sent there. Some of the new laws that caused an uproar involving the colonist were the Sugar Act , Stamp Act, and eventually the Coercive Acts. I will be talking about the ways the British Parliament laws intensified colonials resistance to British governing and their commitment to republican gain. The Sugar Act was passed by Parliament of Great Britain in April 5, 1764, the Sugar Act was designed by Parliament to raise revenue from the American colonist. The Sugar Act would tax sugar and molasses which were ingredients used for rum. They believe in the motto spare the rod, spoil the child , meaning if parents do not physically discipline, the child is spoiled and lacks manners. Others, however, believe that exerting physical harm on a child for discipline does not make sense. They believe that there is always a better way to teach children right from wrong. • 43. Write An Essay On Water Erosion Water Erosion Background Erosion is the wearing away of sand soil or rock by water, or wind. Water erosion is the separation and removal of soil. Water erosion occurs by rain carrying away bits of soil and slowly washing away rock fragments (Society). Rushing streams and rivers wear away their banks, creating larger and larger valleys. Water erosioncan occur on streams, river banks, sea shores and seaside cliffs. There are also different types of water erosion like sheet erosion. Sheet erosion is when water washes away soil from the surface. Another type of water erosion is splash erosion. Splash erosion is the movement of soil by a water droplet. Water erosion occurs more frequently in the spring because it rains more, the rain then washes away rock fragments. An example of water erosion is the colorado river. It cut deep into the land and formed the grand canyon. Purpose The purpose of this experiment is to examine the impact of water erosion on soil due to splash erosion. Hypothesis If the height of the water increases then the amount of soil erosion will increase because the speed of the water will create more pressure on the soil causing the soil to move further. Procedure Get a 600mL beaker and measure out 500mL of soil Grab a tray and place the soil on the tray. In fact, the term dropout factory is one that can be found in research articles and news reports across the country. This term has been ascribed to as many as 1,700 high schools nationally (Tyler Lofstrom, 2009). With this volume of schools being labeled as schools that allow, and possibly even stimulate, large number of students not to continue onto graduation with their peers, the question is posed; why are students dropping out? This question does not have one answer, but rather several factors both within and without of the school s control. In North Carolina a student can legally stop going to school at the age of 16. However, this is not a decision that students hastily make, rather it is a gradual process of disengagement (Bridgeland, DiLulio Jr. Morison, 2006). There are many reasons as to why these students choose to dropout, including extenuating circumstances they may not be able to control. North Carolina requires a majority of their districts to have school social workers or counselors document the reasons students provide for dropping out of school. These reasons vary from school attendance having the highest percentage of 40.3, community college enrollment, conflicts with work, unstable home environment, change of location, need to care for children, and incarceration (Public Schools of North Carolina, 2015).
