The Warming Of Global Warming Essay
It is largely known that the most significant issue facing the planet today is global warming. There is
no doubt it is one of the biggest environmental issues throughout time, though it is widely debated
among scientists and environmentalists what the main causes are. Global warming isn t a new issue, in
only 1989 the UK Prime Minister at the time warns that the increasing emissions of carbon dioxide
into the atmosphere are going to have a significant impact on the earth in the future (BBC News,
2013). The warming of the earth is caused by greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide that trap long
wave radiation in the atmosphere. This warming of the earth surface is referred to as the greenhouse
effect. Greenhouse gases are the gases, such as carbon dioxide, methane, and water vapour which
accumulate in the atmospheric layers prevent heat being radiated from the earth to escape. Without
greenhouse gases the earth would be considerably cooler but with increased human activities,
temperatures are rising to an unstable level (Arbogast, 2011).
Since the peak of the industrial revolution in 1800, the composition of the atmosphere has changed
significantly and continues to change with increasing advanced technology. Human populations have
also greatly increased, with the planet only being home to 700 million people, but due to industrial
developments the population size increased substantially to 1 billion in a very short amount of time.
Prior to 1800 everything was done by hand,

Hive Vs Rdf
1.Hive Introduction: Business analysts, Data scientists, Data analysts, Statisticians, want to analyze
the data for collecting the important characteristics of the data set. In 2004 Google introduced
MapReduce. It simplified the data processing on a large cluster. But many organizations have only
few developers who can write good MapReduce code, which is written in java. (MapReduce can be
written in other languages). Hive was originally developed at Facebook. In 2007 in facebook, the data
processing infrastructure was built using commercial RDBMS. The data that facebook generating was

1.1.Hive Vs. Relational RDBMS: Hive is a schema on read. In traditional database, before data
loading, the table s data has to be decided. If the data being loaded doesn t match with the schema, the
data will be rejected. Traditional database is schema on write. On other hand Hive doesn t verify the
data while loading the data into the tables. But while issuing the query, Hive will test the data schema
with the table schema. The load operation is just a file copy or file move. But while reading log files,
during table creation we can use RegexSerDe. It uses regular expression to serialize/deserialize. The
Regex deserializer interface converts the string or binary representation of the data set into a java
object that Hive can manipulate. Serializer will convert the java object that Hive has been working
with into something that Hive can write to HDFS or another supported system. 2.Hive Architecture:

Pros And Cons Of Tariffs
Pros and Cons of Tariffs
Principles of Macroeconomics
Columbia Southern University
BBA 2401
Angelo Jones
Managing the how goods and services enter or leave this country (import/export) is an important
process that allows for us to control the economic status of our nation. Sometimes imposing tariffs on
the goods imported balances our labor cost, resources and government supported industry. A tariff by
definition is a tax or duty to be paid on a particular class of imports or exports.
Economic policy of nations and states, tariffs are tools used to control the flow of goods, services and
resources being brought into the country. The overall purpose is to create security for the domestic
industry from the imported product. These products can sometimes be less expensive to purchase than
the goods being manufactured in the local economy. (McEachern, 2015) The government does this
either stimulate or deflate trade with other countries. (Fontinelle, 2012)
There are quite a few forms of tariffs that the government may apply based on the condition of the
country s economic welfare. The pros and cons of these forms of tariffs will be reviewed. Discussion
on how these tariffs positively or negatively affects the economic stance of the country will be
displayed. Tariffs such as the ad valorem, the taxing a percentage of the value of an item and the
specific tariff or tax which is a set amount based on weight or sum of items. (McEachern, 2015)

How To Get Rid Of Bed Mites
Want to know how to get rid of bed mites?
Also called dust mites, this little intruder is probably not something you have given a lot of thought to.
However, you may find an improvement in your health if you limit exposure to them.
Sadly, you cannot get rid of bed mites completely. This is impossible, they thrive in so many places
around the home.
Your towels, carpets, furniture, if you have young children they live in their stuffed animals, clothing
and of course the bed.
This is the one place I struggle with, knowing they are in my bed at night.
I can t stand to think about them crawling around while I am trying to get a good nights sleep.
I am a neat freak, and if you are anything like me, and always make a point of making the bed in the

Don t make the bed in the mornings, pure and simple.
When I first read about why making the bed first thing in the mornings is bad for health. I

While you sleep you lose skin cells and sweat. Bed mites love this, and you sleep among their

If the first thing you do in the morning is jump out of bed when the alarm goes off, and go ahead to

Pancreatic Cancer
The pancreas is a part of the endocrine system, and is located in the abdominal cavity surrounded by
the liver, gallbladder, spleen, and stomach. The pancreas processes both exocrine and endocrine
function. The exocrine function consists of the secretion of digestive enzymes into the duodenum
through ducts. The enzymes digest starches and fats. The endocrine functions are a cluster of cells
called the islets of Langerhans and only make up 2% of the pancreatic tissue. The islets of Langerhans
is made up of three cells, alpha, beta, and delta.
There function is to secrete hormones and paracrine products. The most important hormones secreted

Jaundice occurs when there is an increased amount of bilirubin in the blood, this occurs with liver
involvement. The liver is the site of bilirubin breakdown and elimination into the stool. When the liver
is affected by cancer it cannot excrete bilirubin effectively. A new diagnosis of Diabetes Militias can
occur, due to the impaired function of the pancreas to secrete important hormones that control blood
glucose.
Splenomegaly is caused by blood flow backing up into the spleen, caused by compression of the portal
vein by the tumor. Hepatomegaly is caused by tumor growth on the liver.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Mud And Stone
hapter 5. Solutions Beyond the Ordinary: Adaptations and Alternatives
5.1 Advantages and Adaptations of Mud and Stone
The use of mud and stone is mainly due to affordability. They cannot manage construction completely
without cement. They use it for the plinths and foundations. They have used lime wherever possible
but over the years lime plaster has proven difficult to maintain.
This shows that it is practically impossible for them to construct purely out of mud and stone.
What is interesting is the use of steel in combination with wattle and daub in Proto Village. In the
dome house they have used a geodesic steel framework over which they have filled alternate triangles
in with wattle and daub.
This concept can be taken even further and could possible lead to the construction of large span mud
structures.
The main problem they are facing is roofing materials. Thatch roofs are the most practical for this
weather and budget but they also require a lot of maintenance. Another option would be to continue
using aluminium sheeting but this will have to be insulated properly.
The roofing methods that are currently being used are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

a small number of Asian countries, these economies bang back. These economies maintained high
interest rates thereby creation them attractive to foreign investors. As a result these economies

early nineties. The whole of nineties were used to experiment and fine tune an efficient and effective

The study pertains to comparative analysis of the Indian Stock Market with respect to various asian

The Mysterious Great Sphinx of Giza Essay
I Thought There Would Be Answers: The Mysterious Great Sphinx of Giza
At the request of Napoleon Bonaparte in the early 1800 s Dominique Vivant Baron Denon French
artist and diplomat was to record the exploits and accomplishments of Bonaparte s Egyptian
campaign. In 1802, he published his travels. The perfection given by the Egyptians to the
representations of their animals proves that they were not without an idea of that bold style which
expresses much character in a few lines, and their execution tended to the grave, and to ideal
perfection, as we have already remarked in instance of the Sphinx. The generally accepted date of the
great Sphinx of Giza is 2500BC attributed to Pharaoh Khafre of the fourth dynasty. If this is the ...

The Sphinx represents the guardian of the Giza plateau. Revered in Ancient Egypt the feline form has
a long association with royalty, power and protection. An evacuation lead by French archaeologist Dr.
Alain Zivie believed inscriptions suggest Egyptians bred lions as well as buried them in sacred
cemeteries. In 2001, Zive and his crew found a mummified lion in the tomb of a woman understood to
be the wet nurse of Pharaoh Tutankhamen dated to 1430. The wear of the lion s teeth indicate it lived
to old age and was in captivity.
One theorist, Robert Temple, declares the Sphinx is not a lion at all, because of the flat back, lack of
mane, and the disproportion of the head. He believes the original statue was craved before the old
kingdom and portrayed the Egyptian god Anubis, with a head of a jackal and body of a man (see
figure 1). Anubis is traditionally associated with mummification and the afterlife. Temple believes that
between 2200 2000BC, the monument was defaced then re carved during the fourth dynasty in the
image of Pharaoh Khafre. He also presumes the Sphinx enclosure was flooded with Nile water to
make an island. He uses a passage from Herodotus that discusses the cruelty of Pharaoh Khufu and
how the slaves had to dig the moat for his burial chamber For this they said, the ten years were spent,
and for the underground he caused to be made as sepulchral chambers for himself in an island, having

Examples Of Sanitize In Spotlight
In Spotlight, the filmmakers include a scene where one of the Boston Globe reporters, Sacha Pfeiffer,
is interviewing Joe, one of the survivors. Joe tells Sacha about his first visit to Father Shanley s house,
and how Father Shanley the two play strip poker. Joe says, Of course I lost. And things went on from
there. Sacha asks, What happened specifically? and Joe replies Specifically, he molested me. Sacha
continues, and says, Joe, I think the language here is going to be very important. We can t sanitize this,
just saying molest isn t enough. People need to know what actually happened. I will consider the word
sanitize in this paper, and why the filmmakers chose to use this word and film the scene like they did.

This definition is, to render more acceptable, clean up, as by the removal of undesirable, improper or
confidential material. This second definition is different then the more technical and medical health
related connotation of the first definition, but it makes Sacha s use of the word sanitize seem
especially fitting. Sacha and the Spotlight team have been fighting to expose confidential materials,
seen in their struggle to get the documents unsealed. When Mike gets a tip from Garabedian that the
14 most damning docs are already unsealed because of his public motion to oppose another lawyer s
motion, Garabedian tells Mike the documents are not in the courthouse, where they should be because
the Church doesn t want them to be found. So they are not there. This scene between Mike and
Garabedian highlights what Sacha is doing by saying they cannot sanitize the language. The Church in
the Mike and Garabedian scene has in a way sanitized the record by either of the two definitions they
have cleaned it, expunged it, and omitted unsavory information; in contrast, Sacha does not want to

St. Thomas Aquinas
Saint Thomas Aquinas was a philosopher, theologian, Doctor of the Catholic Church, and is the patron
saint of Catholic Universities, colleges, and schools. He was born in Rocca Secca, Italy, in 1225 and
was born into a wealthy family. He even was related to the kings of Aragon, Castile, and France. His
journey into Catholic beliefs seemed predestined, for he was told when he was a young child that he
would become a friar and no one would be equal to him. He started his questioning of faith and
religion when he was a youngster, frequently asking his teachers, What is God? Saint Thomas was a

4) Therefore, there must be an uncaused first cause called God. The third manner of Aquinas support
of God was that there are two types of beings, contingent beings (humans) and a necessary being
(God). Saint Thomas believed that this necessary being (God), was necessary for the contingent
beings (humans), to exist and without God, we humans would not exist. The easiest way to explain
this very confusing subject would be as follows: 1) Contingent beings are caused. 2) Not every being
can be contingent. 3) There must exist a being that is necessary to cause contingent beings. 4) This
necessary being is God. Saint Thomas Aquinas fourth argument of the presence of God came from his
observations of the quality of objects. For example one may say that of two paintings one is more
beautiful than the other. So for these two objects, one has a greater degree of beauty than the next.
This is referred to as degrees or graduation of a quality. From this fact Aquinas concluded that for any
given quality (e.g. goodness, beauty, knowledge) there must be a perfect standard by which all such
qualities are measured. These perfections are contained and reflected in God. God is the ultimate and
everything is insufficient compared to His greatness. The final way that Saint Thomas Aquinas speaks
of God s existence has to do with the observable universe and the order of nature. Aquinas states that
common sense tells us that the universe works in such a way, that

How Did Rene Descartes Use Methodic Doubt
Rene Descartes was first and for most a mathematician, and when coming up with his new mathematic
theories he wanted to create a method to make knowledge completely certain and undoubtable by his
critics, through his knowledge of philosophy he came up with methodic doubt. Methodic doubt is a
way of finding out what knowledge can be trusted (essentially undoubtable knowledge) by
systematically doubting everything. Descartes used methodic doubt because he believed that if we say
that we know and understand reality or existence that our claim to knowing that must be based on
irrefutable evidence rather then just assumption. He likened it to taking a barrel of apples, going
through them one by one and putting the sound ones back . Therefore Descartes went about using
methodic doubt as a way to create a firm foundation for these beliefs by first doubting all knowledge,
reality and our own existence. In his first meditation Descartes doubts all our senses saying that there

but this conclusion he comes to only rebuilds a minor part of it, he does not His procedure of doubting
the senses can be defended in part because although one can doubt the sense s because there is no way
to prove that they are not deceiving us, Descartes gives proof of this argument when he gives the
sample of objects appearing differently when they are far away from us. But this argument is flawed
because we know that we are being deceived by our senses in this case because we know when our
senses are wrong only because we also know when they are right and that we are not being

to its attention to detail, including important symbolism. The 2013 versions attention of details is very
obvious in the scene when daisy meets Gatsby for the first time. In this version Gatsby provides a
gentle and delicate appearance to Daisy. This act supplies the reader with more knowledge about what
Gatsby and Daisy had before the separation. Buz also pays attention to the broken clock, which is an
important symbol. Aslo he pays attention to how Nick introduces them to each other and then lets
them be. The 2013 versions attention of details is very obvious in the scene of Klipspringer. The
original version has the appearance of Klipspringer is in the afternoon after a party, when Nick and
daisy are getting a tour of the house. In the 2013 film the appearance of Klipspringer is in in the
morning after the party when daisy and Nick are getting a tour. In the ... Show more content on

The location is a main factor to the overall idea of the story being the American Dream. In the 1974
film of the location of the film is in Rhode island. This is a perfect choice of location for the American
Dream idea. The 2013 film chose the filming location of Australia, they chose this is the location for
its beauty instead of its symbolism. Yet Fitzgerald would personally prefer the 2013 version. Since the
facts are that in 2013 Rhode island is very modern and no longer fits the setting needed for the film.
Also, there are parts of Australia that are still stuck in the early 1900s, making a perfect choice for the
setting. Fitzgerald s choices of symbols mean a lot to him, but he could understand the challenges of
changing an entire location to fit the need

these and other similar projects indicated that Holstein crosses irrespective of any indigenous breed

The Magical Elasticity of Peter Pan Essay
Question:
Explore Peter Hollindale s claim that Peter Pan retains its magical elasticity and its ongoing modernity
(Reader 2, p.159), with reference to different versions since its original production.
Peter Pan whether as a stage play, a book, a stage musical, a live action film or a pantomime has
endured for more than a century as arguably the most famous, and certainly most influential, stories
for children. First performed in 1904, the fairytale drama has been addressing the ever changing
boundaries between childhood and adulthood ever since. Educationalist and literary critic Peter
Hollindale in A Hundred Years of Peter Pan (Reader 2, p. 159) asserts that the play retains its magical
elasticity and its ongoing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This first production included a number of scenes which were cut from later performances, and the
1908 scene entitled An Afterthought was performed just once during Barrie s lifetime. Published in
1957, it has, since the 1980s, become the standardized ending to the play which we now know. Other
alterations to the original script were, according to Nicola J. Watson in her Introduction to Peter Pan
(Reader 2, p. 143), down to the actors themselves. She contends there was improvisation, especially
during Hook s soliloquy, by the actor Gerald du Maurier, while the notion of Peter as untouchable
resulted in the change of actress playing the part. Already we can see the adaptability and elasticity of
Peter Pan the 1928 play script is not an accurate record of how the play was initially performed, but
rather it is the play which Barrie wanted his audience to see in print. The play text includes a
substantial cross over from the 1911 novel Peter and Wendy, and also omits a number of scenes which
were initially played, many largely down to improvisation.
At the time of the play s performance, during the Edwardian era, it was noted by theatre historian
Tracy Davis that Peter Pan was first produced at a transitional moment in stage history , which was
characterized by the waning influence of pantomime, the emergence of the Christmas fairy play, and
the prevalence of realism in straight drama (EA300 Study Guide, p. 145). In

Analysis Of Herod The Great ( Antipas And Philip )
In due course, Herod the Great (Antipas and Philip) transforms the Jewish territory into a thriving
Roman Judea; from a rough, largely agricultural land, to one boasting with modern cities, roads,
aqueducts and harbors. Particularly, the city of Caesarea Philippi became an eventful center for the
Greek Roman culture; known for its prestigious status as the capital city of Herod Philip and its
substantial gentile population. Hence, these facts demonstrate how commonplace pagan beliefs were
among the society that lives there. Along with this dominating, progressive side of Roman life, their
sexual influence befalls the area with its pagan presence. Besides the Jewish people, and other
religious sects, society s perspective towards sex becomes that of the pagan Roman Empire s
practices; essentially, allowing lust to flourish everywhere in its culture. As a result, the goat god s
popularity became significant, to the point of pagan s attempt at monotheism, (belief in one god);
which, escalates during this time and allegedly Pan, meaning all, became a good candidate for the
position. Although, the goat god never acquires full authorization, off the record, he gradually
transforms into an unofficial religion; one could say Pan became the leading enduring god of the
religion of lust.

Pawn The King
The Pawn or the King?
A contradictory pair exists in the psyche of humanity. We somehow believe that we are both the
metaphorical center of the universe and involved in some greater plan over which we have no control
or no significant effect. The 1951 movie The Day the Earth Stood Still, directed by Robert Wise,
shows both of these ideas: the existence of a higher power in the form of a more intelligent alien race
and the self importance placed upon a people by themselves specifically a nation. The dichotomy
between humanity s egoism and its desire to shun responsibility prevents us from fully accepting one
or the other. Egoism is not a uniquely human characteristic. However, it is something humanity takes
to the next level. Primates and other hierarchal animals express the innate nature that is self interest.
For male lions, this self interest is the only thing that keeps them alive. Contrary to popular belief, it is
the female lion the lioness that forms the foundation of the pride. The lioness does the hunting, the
nurturing, and the defending of the pride. Male lions have slim chances of survival on their own, and
unlike the lioness, genetic (or familial) ties do not keep it in the pride. When ousted, they must fight
for, scavenge or even steal food. The final goal of the male lion is to become part of a pride, as their
escort, performing duties but also securing food for itself. A male lion will fight males in the pride for
their positions of security. Its individual

Comparing Camp Rock And High School Musical
With debates among several people concerning which movie was the better one, it s fair to say that
High School Musical is the more popular choice, yet Camp Rock is the most inspirational of these
two. Camp Rock is a demonstration for a younger audience to become aware of being who they are
made to be. It is great to show the younger audience self confidence and faith for themselves. High
School Musical portrays similar messages, but Camp Rock has the better meaning. There are going to
be summaries of these movies in the next few paragraphs. In High School Musical, a shy girl named
Gabriella and Troy, the star basketball player of East High sang karaoke together at a New Year s Eve
party. After the two exchanged numbers, Gabriella became a new student at East High unexpectedly.
While Troy began showing Gabriella around the school, they stop near the sign up sheet for the new

Thomas Malory s Le Morte Darthur and Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Professor s comment: This student uses a feminist approach to shift our value judgment of two works
in a surprisingly thought provoking way. After showing how female seduction in Malory s story of
King Arthur is crucial to the story as a whole, the student follows with an equally serious analysis of
Monty Python s parody of the female seduction motif in what may be the most memorable and
hilarious episode of the film.
Much of the humor in Monty Python and the Holy Grail derives from the pure absurdity of its
characters and situations. King Arthur roams the British countryside on an imaginary horse, evil
enemies can only be appeased with offerings of shrubbery, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

For example, when Sir Mellyagaunce kidnaps the queen, Lancelot undergoes much physical hardship
to rescue her, including confronting archers, crossing rough terrain, and escaping imprisonment.
Another time, when Sir Mador de la Porte accuses Queen Guinevere of treason, Lancelot enters into
trial by combat in the queen s defense. Mador gravely injures him in the battle: Sir Mador...smote
[Lancelot] through the thick of the thighs, that the blood brast out fiercely. And...[Lancelot] felt
himself so wounded and saw his blood. (124 125) In addition to such physical pain, the queen often
causes Lancelot great emotional distress. Once, for instance, Guinevere devastates Lancelot when she
wrongly accuses him of being unfaithful to her and angrily banishes him from her court: Right so Sir
Lancelot departed [Camelot] with great heaviness that unneth him might sustain himself for great dole
making (115).
Not only does Lancelot s affair with Guinevere cause him a great deal of suffering, it wreaks havoc on
the lives of many other men as well. For instance, their affair brings tragedy to Sir Gawain and his
family. Lancelot kills Gawain s innocent brothers, Sir Gaheris and Sir Gareth, while rescuing the
queen from being executed for adultery. Sir Gawain consequently instigates a blood feud against
Lancelot that will eventually lead to his own death. King Arthur and his

becomes close friends with his daredevil roommate Finny. Finny is able to convince Gene into making

A more obvious way of seeing his leadership is the way that he is described as the hub of the class
(87). Hub is a synonym for the center of something, or the heart and core. If someone is described as
the hub of the class, then it means that they are the person that keeps the class together. The final way
I was able to see Brinker s leadership was towards the end of the book. Even though he had
transformed to a more rebellious way, there was still a sign of his authority when he had arranged the
trial in the Assembly Hall. His wanting to know the truth that was hidden from him drove him to hold
the meeting in order to find it.
Gene is definitely a dynamic and round character unlike Brinker who is a static and flat character.
Gene changes very significantly in the story. He struggled a lot with finding himself and his identity,
so much that he believes that he is a part of Phineas. Oddly enough, this sort of makes sense. One way
to think about it is the guilt Gene was so disgusted with himself for having caused Finny s accident
that he can t bear to be himself, so he becomes someone else: Phineas. Another explanation is that
because the struggle to define him is so difficult, he s simply borrowed someone else s identity instead
of creating one for himself. But once Finny is gone, Gene has to rely on himself to make decisions and
make up his own rules. At the end of the novel as Gene is reflecting fifteen years later, he says that

The Pros And Cons Of Mental Disorders
Throughout the centuries mental illness has been treated by countless treatments. Modern treatments
have created an argument over which treatment options are best. the most debates treatments today are
medication and therapy. the argument of medication versus therapy as treatments for mental illness is
fairly new. Yet, proponents of both sides have strong arguments stating the advantages of their
treatment option. proponents of medication believe pharmacogenetics, tailored treatments, and
medication s ability to treat severe disorders makes medication the better treatment option. proponents
of therapy believe drug addiction, suicide prevention, and need adaption establishes therapy as the
better treatment choice.
Many terms and concepts are commonly associated with mental illness. the topic of mental illness has
many overlapping and subset definitions. Mental illness, a term that encompasses a wide range of
mental disorders, contains subcategories of mental disorders distinguishable by effects on a person s
behavior, thinking, and mood. Disorders are the most commonly referred to an aspect of mental
illness; types of disorders are schizophrenia, anxiety, and depression. Syndromes, even more, specific
than disorders, pertain to particular systems within subcategories of disorders and are identifiable by
distinct symptoms, mental or physical markers expressed by a disease; examples of syndromes are an
obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and post traumatic stress disorder

Key Features Of The Biological And Psychoanalytic Approach...
What are the core assumptions and key features of the biological and psychoanalytic perspectives in
psychology? In what ways are they similar and how do they differ? The biological approach focuses
on the physiological causes of behaviour based on genetics, brain physiology and biochemistry. This
approach also adopts the view that biology is adapted based on the environment an organism is in and
therefore most behaviours serve an evolutionary purpose. Research is gained through a nomothetic
approach that uses scientific methods. The psychoanalytical approach focuses on instincts, childhood
experiences and the unconscious mind as motivators for behaviour. An idiographic approach is
adopted from the case studies Freud used to develop his theory, however, Freud also attempted to
apply general laws of behaviour using a nomothetic approach. There are several similarities within the
two approaches: they both draw on nature and nature, are deterministic, materialistic and internal
approaches. Additionally, both have practical applications in modern life. However, some differences
between the two are that the biological approach accounts for external forces as well as internal whilst
psychodynamic does not. The psychodynamic approach places greater emphasis on unobservable
forces unlike the biological approach that primarily looks at observable structures although often in
animals rather than humans. The biological approach studies behaviour using a nomothetic method.

Blue Bacteria Lab Report
There was a mix up with placement of the Plasmid containing Bacteria (experiment s culture) and
control bacteria. The experiment s culture was place in the jar with no ampicillin. As a result, bacteria
with plasmid grew as well as bacteria without plasmid. However, it is possible to identify the
transformed culture because of the blue marker.
On the other hand, the control cells do not have the plasmids with ampicillin resistance and blue
marker so the population of bacteria cells are fewer in the jars with jars with ampicillin and they do
not have blue bacteria.
DISCUSSION
Plasmid DNA is negative and bacterium s cell wall is negatively charged. Thus, as DNA approaches
the cell wall it is repelled. The calcium chloride neutralizes the charge of the bacterium and DNA
therefore allowing the Bacterium cell wall to be in close proximity to a plasmid DNA. The bacterium
undergoes heat shock which is technique of place a bacterium in extreme temperature with wide

would react with ampicillin is unknown.
Nevertheless, the evidence is successful at proving the transformation of bacteria is possible because
some cell took in the lac Z gene containing plasmid and were able to produce beta galactosidase as a

  • 2. The Warming Of Global Warming Essay It is largely known that the most significant issue facing the planet today is global warming. There is no doubt it is one of the biggest environmental issues throughout time, though it is widely debated among scientists and environmentalists what the main causes are. Global warming isn t a new issue, in only 1989 the UK Prime Minister at the time warns that the increasing emissions of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere are going to have a significant impact on the earth in the future (BBC News, 2013). The warming of the earth is caused by greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide that trap long wave radiation in the atmosphere. This warming of the earth surface is referred to as the greenhouse effect. Greenhouse gases are the gases, such as carbon dioxide, methane, and water vapour which accumulate in the atmospheric layers prevent heat being radiated from the earth to escape. Without greenhouse gases the earth would be considerably cooler but with increased human activities, temperatures are rising to an unstable level (Arbogast, 2011). Since the peak of the industrial revolution in 1800, the composition of the atmosphere has changed significantly and continues to change with increasing advanced technology. Human populations have also greatly increased, with the planet only being home to 700 million people, but due to industrial developments the population size increased substantially to 1 billion in a very short amount of time. Prior to 1800 everything was done by hand, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In 2004 Google introduced MapReduce. It simplified the data processing on a large cluster. But many organizations have only few developers who can write good MapReduce code, which is written in java. If the data being loaded doesn t match with the schema, the data will be rejected. Traditional database is schema on write. On other hand Hive doesn t verify the data while loading the data into the tables. But while issuing the query, Hive will test the data schema with the table schema. The load operation is just a file copy or file move. But while reading log files, during table creation we can use RegexSerDe. It uses regular expression to serialize/deserialize. The Regex deserializer interface converts the string or binary representation of the data set into a java object that Hive can manipulate. Serializer will convert the java object that Hive has been working with into something that Hive can write to HDFS or another supported system. 2.Hive Architecture: Fig 2.1 Hive Architecture Fig 2.1 shows the main components of Hive. The major components are External Interfaces Hive provides both user interfaces and Application Programming Interfaces. They cannot manage construction completely without cement. They use it for the plinths and foundations. They have used lime wherever possible but over the years lime plaster has proven difficult to maintain. This shows that it is practically impossible for them to construct purely out of mud and stone. What is interesting is the use of steel in combination with wattle and daub in Proto Village. In the dome house they have used a geodesic steel framework over which they have filled alternate triangles in with wattle and daub. The Mysterious Great Sphinx of Giza Essay I Thought There Would Be Answers: The Mysterious Great Sphinx of Giza At the request of Napoleon Bonaparte in the early 1800 s Dominique Vivant Baron Denon French artist and diplomat was to record the exploits and accomplishments of Bonaparte s Egyptian campaign. In 1802, he published his travels. The perfection given by the Egyptians to the representations of their animals proves that they were not without an idea of that bold style which expresses much character in a few lines, and their execution tended to the grave, and to ideal perfection, as we have already remarked in instance of the Sphinx. The generally accepted date of the great Sphinx of Giza is 2500BC attributed to Pharaoh Khafre of the fourth dynasty. If this is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Sphinx represents the guardian of the Giza plateau. Revered in Ancient Egypt the feline form has a long association with royalty, power and protection. An evacuation lead by French archaeologist Dr. Alain Zivie believed inscriptions suggest Egyptians bred lions as well as buried them in sacred cemeteries. In 2001, Zive and his crew found a mummified lion in the tomb of a woman understood to be the wet nurse of Pharaoh Tutankhamen dated to 1430. The wear of the lion s teeth indicate it lived to old age and was in captivity. One theorist, Robert Temple, declares the Sphinx is not a lion at all, because of the flat back, lack of mane, and the disproportion of the head. He believes the original statue was craved before the old kingdom and portrayed the Egyptian god Anubis, with a head of a jackal and body of a man (see figure 1). Anubis is traditionally associated with mummification and the afterlife. Temple believes that between 2200 2000BC, the monument was defaced then re carved during the fourth dynasty in the image of Pharaoh Khafre. He also presumes the Sphinx enclosure was flooded with Nile water to make an island. He uses a passage from Herodotus that discusses the cruelty of Pharaoh Khufu and how the slaves had to dig the moat for his burial chamber For this they said, the ten years were spent, and for the underground he caused to be made as sepulchral chambers for himself in an island, having ... B St. Thomas Aquinas Saint Thomas Aquinas was a philosopher, theologian, Doctor of the Catholic Church, and is the patron saint of Catholic Universities, colleges, and schools. He was born in Rocca Secca, Italy, in 1225 and was born into a wealthy family. He even was related to the kings of Aragon, Castile, and France. His journey into Catholic beliefs seemed predestined, for he was told when he was a young child that he would become a friar and no one would be equal to him. He started his questioning of faith and religion when he was a youngster, frequently asking his teachers, What is God? The third manner of Aquinas support of God was that there are two types of beings, contingent beings (humans) and a necessary being (God). Saint Thomas believed that this necessary being (God), was necessary for the contingent beings (humans), to exist and without God, we humans would not exist. The easiest way to explain this very confusing subject would be as follows: 1) Contingent beings are caused. 2) Not every being can be contingent. 3) There must exist a being that is necessary to cause contingent beings. 4) This necessary being is God. Saint Thomas Aquinas fourth argument of the presence of God came from his observations of the quality of objects. For example one may say that of two paintings one is more beautiful than the other. So for these two objects, one has a greater degree of beauty than the next. This is referred to as degrees or graduation of a quality. From this fact Aquinas concluded that for any given quality (e.g. goodness, beauty, knowledge) there must be a perfect standard by which all such qualities are measured. These perfections are contained and reflected in God. God is the ultimate and everything is insufficient compared to His greatness. The final way that Saint Thomas Aquinas speaks of God s existence has to do with the observable universe and the order of nature. How Did Rene Descartes Use Methodic Doubt Rene Descartes was first and for most a mathematician, and when coming up with his new mathematic theories he wanted to create a method to make knowledge completely certain and undoubtable by his critics, through his knowledge of philosophy he came up with methodic doubt. Methodic doubt is a way of finding out what knowledge can be trusted (essentially undoubtable knowledge) by systematically doubting everything. Descartes used methodic doubt because he believed that if we say that we know and understand reality or existence that our claim to knowing that must be based on irrefutable evidence rather then just assumption. He likened it to taking a barrel of apples, going through them one by one and putting the sound ones back . Watson in her Introduction to Peter Pan (Reader 2, p. 143), down to the actors themselves. She contends there was improvisation, especially during Hook s soliloquy, by the actor Gerald du Maurier, while the notion of Peter as untouchable resulted in the change of actress playing the part. Already we can see the adaptability and elasticity of Peter Pan the 1928 play script is not an accurate record of how the play was initially performed, but rather it is the play which Barrie wanted his audience to see in print. The play text includes a substantial cross over from the 1911 novel Peter and Wendy, and also omits a number of scenes which were initially played, many largely down to improvisation. At the time of the play s performance, during the Edwardian era, it was noted by theatre historian Tracy Davis that Peter Pan was first produced at a transitional moment in stage history , which was characterized by the waning influence of pantomime, the emergence of the Christmas fairy play, and the prevalence of realism in straight drama (EA300 Study Guide, p. 145). We somehow believe that we are both the metaphorical center of the universe and involved in some greater plan over which we have no control or no significant effect. The 1951 movie The Day the Earth Stood Still, directed by Robert Wise, shows both of these ideas: the existence of a higher power in the form of a more intelligent alien race and the self importance placed upon a people by themselves specifically a nation. The dichotomy between humanity s egoism and its desire to shun responsibility prevents us from fully accepting one or the other. Egoism is not a uniquely human characteristic. However, it is something humanity takes to the next level. Primates and other hierarchal animals express the innate nature that is self interest. For male lions, this self interest is the only thing that keeps them alive. Contrary to popular belief, it is the female lion the lioness that forms the foundation of the pride. The lioness does the hunting, the nurturing, and the defending of the pride. Male lions have slim chances of survival on their own, and unlike the lioness, genetic (or familial) ties do not keep it in the pride. When ousted, they must fight for, scavenge or even steal food. Once, for instance, Guinevere devastates Lancelot when she wrongly accuses him of being unfaithful to her and angrily banishes him from her court: Right so Sir Lancelot departed [Camelot] with great heaviness that unneth him might sustain himself for great dole making (115). Not only does Lancelot s affair with Guinevere cause him a great deal of suffering, it wreaks havoc on the lives of many other men as well. For instance, their affair brings tragedy to Sir Gawain and his family. Lancelot kills Gawain s innocent brothers, Sir Gaheris and Sir Gareth, while rescuing the queen from being executed for adultery. Sir Gawain consequently instigates a blood feud against Lancelot that will eventually lead to his own death. King Arthur and his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. A Separate Peace In John Knowles novel A Separate Peace, it begins with the protagonist, Gene Forrester coming back to his alma mater the Devon School in New Hampshire. Wandering through the campus, Gene makes his way to a tall tree by the river; the reason for his return. From here he takes the reader back to the year 1942 during World War II when he was in high school. During the summer session of 1942, he becomes close friends with his daredevil roommate Finny. Finny is able to convince Gene into making a dangerous jump out of a tree into a river, and the two start a secret society based on this ritual. Gene slowly begins to envy Finny s athletic capabilities and his innocence, and thinks that Finny envies him in return. Gene finally realizes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A more obvious way of seeing his leadership is the way that he is described as the hub of the class (87). Hub is a synonym for the center of something, or the heart and core. If someone is described as the hub of the class, then it means that they are the person that keeps the class together. The final way I was able to see Brinker s leadership was towards the end of the book. Even though he had transformed to a more rebellious way, there was still a sign of his authority when he had arranged the trial in the Assembly Hall. His wanting to know the truth that was hidden from him drove him to hold the meeting in order to find it. Gene is definitely a dynamic and round character unlike Brinker who is a static and flat character. Gene changes very significantly in the story. He struggled a lot with finding himself and his identity, so much that he believes that he is a part of Phineas. Oddly enough, this sort of makes sense. One way to think about it is the guilt Gene was so disgusted with himself for having caused Finny s accident that he can t bear to be himself, so he becomes someone else: Phineas. Another explanation is that because the struggle to define him is so difficult, he s simply borrowed someone else s identity instead of creating one for himself. But once Finny is gone, Gene has to rely on himself to make decisions and make up his own rules. At the end of the novel as Gene is reflecting fifteen years later, he says that [his war ... • 33. The Pros And Cons Of Mental Disorders Throughout the centuries mental illness has been treated by countless treatments. Modern treatments have created an argument over which treatment options are best. the most debates treatments today are medication and therapy. the argument of medication versus therapy as treatments for mental illness is fairly new. Yet, proponents of both sides have strong arguments stating the advantages of their treatment option. proponents of medication believe pharmacogenetics, tailored treatments, and medication s ability to treat severe disorders makes medication the better treatment option. proponents of therapy believe drug addiction, suicide prevention, and need adaption establishes therapy as the better treatment choice. Many terms and concepts are commonly associated with mental illness. the topic of mental illness has many overlapping and subset definitions. Mental illness, a term that encompasses a wide range of mental disorders, contains subcategories of mental disorders distinguishable by effects on a person s behavior, thinking, and mood. Disorders are the most commonly referred to an aspect of mental illness; types of disorders are schizophrenia, anxiety, and depression. Syndromes, even more, specific than disorders, pertain to particular systems within subcategories of disorders and are identifiable by distinct symptoms, mental or physical markers expressed by a disease; examples of syndromes are an obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and post traumatic stress disorder ... • 34. Key Features Of The Biological And Psychoanalytic Approach... What are the core assumptions and key features of the biological and psychoanalytic perspectives in psychology? In what ways are they similar and how do they differ? The biological approach focuses on the physiological causes of behaviour based on genetics, brain physiology and biochemistry. This approach also adopts the view that biology is adapted based on the environment an organism is in and therefore most behaviours serve an evolutionary purpose. Research is gained through a nomothetic approach that uses scientific methods. The psychoanalytical approach focuses on instincts, childhood experiences and the unconscious mind as motivators for behaviour. An idiographic approach is adopted from the case studies Freud used to develop his theory, however, Freud also attempted to apply general laws of behaviour using a nomothetic approach. There are several similarities within the two approaches: they both draw on nature and nature, are deterministic, materialistic and internal approaches. Additionally, both have practical applications in modern life. However, some differences between the two are that the biological approach accounts for external forces as well as internal whilst psychodynamic does not. The psychodynamic approach places greater emphasis on unobservable forces unlike the biological approach that primarily looks at observable structures although often in animals rather than humans. The biological approach studies behaviour using a nomothetic method. Of all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Blue Bacteria Lab Report There was a mix up with placement of the Plasmid containing Bacteria (experiment s culture) and control bacteria. The experiment s culture was place in the jar with no ampicillin. As a result, bacteria with plasmid grew as well as bacteria without plasmid. However, it is possible to identify the transformed culture because of the blue marker. On the other hand, the control cells do not have the plasmids with ampicillin resistance and blue marker so the population of bacteria cells are fewer in the jars with jars with ampicillin and they do not have blue bacteria. DISCUSSION Plasmid DNA is negative and bacterium s cell wall is negatively charged. Thus, as DNA approaches the cell wall it is repelled. The calcium chloride neutralizes the charge of the bacterium and DNA therefore allowing the Bacterium cell wall to be in close proximity to a plasmid DNA. The bacterium undergoes heat shock which is technique of place a bacterium in extreme temperature with wide range. In the lab the bacteria was place in an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These are properties E.coli normal does not have so control bacteria should look white and die in the presence of ampicillin. The ampicillin marker was irrelevant in this experiment due an error of not placing the experiments s data in ampicillin. In the end, data on how the bacterium with plasmids would react with ampicillin is unknown. Nevertheless, the evidence is successful at proving the transformation of bacteria is possible because some cell took in the lac Z gene containing plasmid and were able to produce beta galactosidase as a consequence turned blue. There seem to be an equal proportion of blue colony to cells without plasmids. Without ampicillin degradation, there is an excess of bacteria without plasmids so the agar jar does not have appearance satellite colony agar ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
