William Faulkner Biography
William Faulkner was Born in New Albany, Mississippi on September 25, 1897 to Murry and Maud
Butler Falkner. Throughout his young life he was taken care of from birth until he moved out by his
caretaker, an African American woman named Caroline Barr. William called her Mammy . Barr was
one of the most influential people in his life. She was fundamental to his development in his early
years. He said later on that it was a privilege to have known her and that she was the one who taught
him right from wrong and sparked his interest in the politics of sexuality and race. Faulkner s
grandfather was also a writer. William Clark Falkner, often called Old Colonel , was an adventurous
man who was a railroad financier, politician, soldier, farmer, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

birth yet again to their next daughter who they named Jill. Jill ended up being the only surviving child

the money and not really because of any inspirational purposes. At the same time he continued to

Commission (FCC) regulations and policies.
If the company is subject to stringent regulation by federal, state and local governments, which

Comcast s businesses, including Cable and NBCUniversal s businesses are required to comply to the

The Communications Act of 1934, as amended (the Communications Act ), and Federal

Multiracial People Vs Monoracial People
Jessica Remedios and Alison Chasteen explain in their article the disadvantages multiracial people has
to pass every day of their lives. They are rejected by all ethnic groups because their don t exactly fit in
either of them, even though they represent the fastest growing minority group in the States. Remedios
and Chasteen conducted two studies to help them understand better the difference between these two
main groups, the multiracial and the monoracial. They hypothesized that because multiracial people
has unpredictable background they tend to be attracted to partners who can verify their racial
identities. Contrary to monoracial people, whose background are extremely predictable, they do not

Gun Violence And The United States Essay
Gun Violence in the United States
For many years there has been a growing controversy between two sides. The side that wants to take
away our right to have firearms and those that want to keep our rights in place. Because of this, gun
violence in the US varies from state to state, depending on current gun laws in each individual state.
States with the toughest gun laws are the states with the highest crime rates because of a victim
inability to protect themselves. One must also remember that Criminals will always have guns and that
safe zones are only safe for criminals. Achieving a delicate balance between owning guns and
criminals having guns is definitely a challenge.
While achieving a balance between a law abiding citizens right to own guns and keeping guns away
from criminals may be challenging, it is something we should all strive for. A victim s inability to
protect themselves or the one s they love, will always be an issue with certain laws. Those laws which
restrict gun ownership would essentially hinder one s ability to protect themselves and leave them
wide open for an attack. We have seen these stories in the news day after day. McDowall states,
Restrictions on carrying concealed weapons are among the most common gun control policies. (193).
When it comes to concealed carry, Mc Dowell states, These statutes limit who may have a deadly
weapon usually a handgun hidden on their person when outside the home. (193). On a daily basis, you

Cling to the words of Confucius in this regard. Chi K ang asked Confucius about government, saying,
What would you think if, in order to move closer to those who possess the Way, I were to kill those

One can come up with a thousand solutions, but must remember that A country of a thousand war
chariots cannot be administered unless the ruler attends strictly to business, punctually observes his
promises. (I, 5) Flood control in the regions surrounding the Yellow River requires thousands of
diligent workers. Emphasis on the word diligent . These commoners will veer from their assigned task
and will be rebellious if their leaders are not morally straight. That, once again, starts at the root the
Ruler of All Under Heaven. Our current examination system can certainly be revamped, but it
currently encourages men to delve knee deep into the analects. That is especially important right now
seeing as the people they look up to are not, in the words of Master Confucius, True gentleman . No

Molarity Lab Report
The concept investigated in this lab was the relationship between absorbance and concentration, or
molarity. This relates to the guiding question, How could you make 1 liter of Pirate Purple #2 dye? ,
because in order to create more dye, you must obtain an equation from the graph to calculate the
amount, in grams, of blue and red dye that must be mixed to create the certain shade of purple. The
molarity of a substance is the amount of moles per one liter of liquid that it contains. A solution is a
mixture that contains two or more substances. A solute is one substance that is dissolved in another
substance, while a solvent is the matter that the solute is dissolved in. When plotted on a graph,
absorbance and concentration (molarity) have a

Spanking A Child
The topic of should you spank your child has been a hot button topic recently in the U.S. While many
Parents support the idea, some parents on the other hand are against the idea. In this thread, I will be
stating my opinion on spanking a child. Why or why not? I will also be state weather or not the U.S
should ban spanking, like many European countries have done.
To start what is my position on spanking a child? While many parents tend to agree with the idea of
spanking, I myself do not agree with the concept. My reason for this is because many adults say that
spanking is a form of discipline. Well if we take a look at the word discipline, it stems from the word
disciple, which means to teach. So based on that, what is it that you are ... Show more content on

One of those means can be embarrassment. At the ages of 10 to 18 years old it s all about image for a
child. A child wants to fit in so bad that if a parent do something to disrupt that image it s mental, it s
emotional, and depending on what you did it can be physical. Meaning you don t have to hit a child to
get your point across, and all parents do it. Embarrassing a child is a rite of passage as a parent as well
as a tool that is 100 percent legal. Now, should the U.S put a ban on spanking a child? My answer for
that is no. My reason for this is because as a parent, there isn t a book on parenting, you are pretty
much making it up as you go, and if you believe that spanking is the right thing to do. Then it shouldn
t be up to the government to tell you how to parent. However, if you are hitting a child to an extensive
degree causing physical marks that look 50 shades of purple, or leaving laceration marks from a
switch, then you are clearly abusing a child and should be punished accordingly.
Now would a law preventing spanking interfere with parenting decisions? Yes and no. What I mean by
this is if you pass a law like this not all parents will comply, and be willing to learn new parenting
techniques, while the parents who are willing to learn will not be affected because they are still finding
ways to discipline their

Hamlet Soliloquies Analysis
All seven soliloquies in the play are based on several common themes such as death, incest, pain, fear,
emptiness of existence, and pride and hypocrisy that make us human. To create these themes and
further develop character, Shakespeare uses certain techniques. First of all, Shakespeare employs
blank verse to create a smooth flowing rhythm and cadence. He masterfully switches back and forth
between fast and slow pace by utilizing both short choppy sentences and fluent long ones. Secondly, it
is clear that the soliloquies do not waste any word. Each syllable and sound adds depth to the
development of Hamlet. Each soliloquy successfully conveys to the reader Hamlet s state of mind and
intensity of his emotion. Most importantly, the soliloquies reveal something special that the play itself
does no t. Just by looking at the play separately, it i s very hard for readers to notice the character
development that Hamlet goes through. For instance, the beginning soliloquies prove that Hamlet is
indecisive and irresolute. Thus, it i s the soliloquy found in each aAct of the play that readers can
watch Hamlet grow internally.
As an uptight and hypersensitive individual, Hamlet never seems to reveal much about his thoughts
throughout the whole play. In fact, since Hamlet is inclined to express his emotions in a physically
interactive way, including his abusive interaction with his mother and aggressive physical contact with
Laertes and Claudius, it is rather difficult for the audience to interpret his intentions and his thoughts.
His soliloquies, however, are the only ways in which the audience can finally gain an understanding of
his thoughts. This soliloquy, also being the first, reveals him to be thoroughly disgusted with Gertrude,
Claudius, and the world in general. This is when the King Claudius and Queen Gertrude urges Hamlet
in the open court to cast off the deep melancholy which, as they think, has taken possession of his
mind as a consequence of his father s death. In their opinion, Hamlet has sufficiently grieved for his
father s death already. Prior to the soliloquy, King Claudius and Queen Gertrude announce their
marriage, as according to them, the court cannot afford excessive grief, which further saddens

Importance Of Semiotics To The Cultural Aspects Of Philosophy
PHILOSOPHIES OF QUANTUM PHYSICS AND OF EDUCOLOGY
Introduction
In the Introduction, the philosophy of quantum physics and the philosophy of educology will be
characterized in respect to five established cultural aspects of philosophy
, i.e. in respect to the aspects:
(1) of ontology as philosophy of what exists,
(2) of metaphysics as philosophy of what exists and is real,
(3) of epistemology as philosophy of what knowledge is,
(4) of logic as philosophy of inquiry entailing an epistemology,
(5) of axiology philosophy of what value, and, in respect;
to semiotics as the science of the semiosical process, whereas the semiosical process is a naturally and
culturally determined socially oriented process, involving symbols as to their meanings (symbol
meaning) and signs as to their significance (sign significance).
The Importance of Semiotics to the Cultural Aspects of Philosophy
From the perspective of the author of this paper, semiotics is the science of the semiosical process,
whereas the semiosical process entails what is alluded to when John Dewey states that:
I shall. . . connect sign and significance [sign significance], symbol and meaning [symbol meaning],
respectively, with each other, in order to have terms to designate two different kinds of representative
capacity. Linguistically, the choice of terms is more or less arbitrary, although sign and significance
have a common verbal root. This consideration is of no importance, however, compared with the

The Effects of Gatorade on Athletic Performance
When athletes are training or competing, it is apparent that they sometimes benefit by consuming
various drinks that contain water, carbohydrate and electrolytes. This can assist and improve an athlete
s performance, and it may reduce physiological stress on an athlete s cardiovascular, central nervous
and muscular systems. During endurance events Gatorade is an effective drink to have in order for the
athlete to sustain their maximum energy throughout the competition. Gatorade has been proven to
reduce the risk of hyponatraemia, improve endurance performance if consumed during training or
competition and it allows fast release of fluid to the tissue as well as rapid fluid absorption.
Hyponatraemia is a disorder in fluid electrolyte stability that results in an unusual low plasma sodium
concentration. A continuous decrease in plasma sodium concentration upsets the osmotic balance
across the blood brain barrier, ensuing in an direct entry of water into the brain. This causes brain
swelling and a flow of gradually more severe neurological responses such as confusion, seizure, coma
which can result in death from break of the brainstem. The faster and lower the blood sodium falls, the
greater the risk of life threatening consequences. (Eichner, 2003). Athletes who drink too much water
before and during exercise (high endurance) in warm and humid weather are at a higher risk of
developing hyponatraemia. In addition, bigger athletes are not resistant to hyponatraemia but smaller

Soviet Union and Nazi Germany. Hitler broke the non aggression pact he had signed with Stalin and

The fact that the Wehrmacht had defeated France in under three months in early 1940 only solidified
Hitler s confidence in the superiority of Germany s military. Hitler believed that a quick attack and
swift capture of Moscow, before the Soviet Union could prepare for such a move, would ensure
victory. The Soviet Union was not prepared for war. In the 1930 s, Stalin had cleansed the Soviet
military of all those whom he saw as a threat to his power which left the Red Army with few
experienced leaders. The Soviet military was also ill equipped to fight which was evidenced by the
difficulties the Soviets had in Finland in 1939. Stalin had signed the non aggression treaty with Hitler
in hopes that the German army would get into a long and drawn out fight with the French and British,
as they had in World War I, leaving Stalin with time to prepare his forces. Stalin simply did not trust
the Germans to honor the non aggression pact and knew Germany would attack eventually. Leading
up to the invasion, Stalin received several intelligence reports indicating Hitler s intention to invade.
Over 3 Million Wehrmacht soldiers had massed along 1,800 miles of the Soviet border, yet Stalin
forbid his soldiers from preparing for a preemptive strike against the German forces because he did
not wish to provoke Hitler. Stalin made a critical mistake by ignoring his commanders in the field and
ignoring intelligence reports on the situation. Stalin refused to believe

Gender Bending in Antony and Cleopatra
Antony and Cleopatra is a fable about the destructive duality of Antony s character. Shakespeare uses
gender bending as a device to portray Antony s transformation from Roman to Egyptian. This
transformation causes constant conflict between Antony the Roman defined by empire and duty and
Antony the Egyptian defined by folly and lust. This duality finally proves to be fatal. Antony and

possesions and prepared for the 2,000 miles to Oregon. Many had dreams of riches and a better life. It
s well documented the strugles and hardships they faced, but women in particular shared just as much
hardship as men if not more.
As we take a look closer look at the struggles pioneer women faced during their migration it becomes
clear the importance of woman during this historical event.
Death was a constint life along the Oregon Trail. Jane Kellogg, a female pioneer wrote, There was an

Brown, being healthy needs to include a state of mind and physical well being. Years of neglect have
taken their toll on her body, resulting in obesity and chronic issues such as hypertension and Type 2
diabetes. The health assessment of Brown details long standing depression coupled with morbid
obesity as a result of poor eating choices and a lack of exercise. More compelling was the rationale
behind her choices and her inability to move on from the passing of her late husband. The health
promotion plan includes an emphasis on addressing Browns highest concern of major depression
followed by morbid obesity. The goal of Brown s health promotion plan will be her ability move on
from the past, get hold of her depression and make better life choices. These factors can be evaluated
based on her positive interaction, eating choices, healthy lifestyle habits, and adherence to medication

Social Movements And Its Impact On Society
Everyday in society people make decisions, interact with others, and react to the adversities in life.
Social sciences are the study of all aspects of society past or present, ranging from the behavior of
humans to the digging up of ancient pottery. Through the research of social scientists, we see how
humans have developed culturally, and socially as individuals or members of society. Research of
social phenomena commonly occurs overtime due to the continuous change in society. A very
common and important study among researches are the different social movements that have occurred
and are occurring around the world. Social movements have been prevalent since the beginning of
time. Social movements are the coming together of individuals that seek to carry out, resist, or undo
social change politically and socially. Social movements can be caused by cultural drifts, social
disorganization, and social injustice. These movements are a response to social change, usually
regarding the inequality and unjust treatment of people. Studying these movements sparks an interest
in researchers because these observations make it easy to see how social movements develop and how
society can be more inclusive and equal to all individuals in society. An example of a social movement
is the women s movement of the 1960 s and 1970 s when the role of women changed drastically from
being a housewife to entering the paid workforce. Throughout history women have been treated
unequally and have

One the one hand, the fertility of the industry opened the doors to corporations that sighted substantial
growth potential. New entrants with big pockets such as Walmart could pose a certain threat to
Netflix, by exploiting a playing card based on cost reduction. On the other hand, barriers to entry
became relatively significant as established video rental retailers such as Netflix have the experience
and the knowhow to market movies to people. In this industry, firms that do not have a technological
advantage can t compete. The best example is Netflix s CineMatch program that offered personalized
film recommendations based on customer s rental patterns. This way, Netflix was able to better serve
its subscribers. From a cost perspective, the movie rental industry requires high capital expenditures,
and the major expenses are highly related to acquisitions of DVD library and investments in
technology (exhibit 2 continued). Thus, we may say that entry is difficult in this industry as the
competing firms have reputation, experience and recognizable brand names. b) Bargaining power of
suppliers To offer a wide selection of DVDs for its consumers, Netflix worked with more than 50

Women s Portrayal Of Women And Their Eras
Female roles have changed dramatically in present literature, writers such as Stephen Crane, Henry
James, Sherwood Anderson and Jean Toomer were influential in their portrayal of women and their
eras. To be feminine was to be the prefect lady and young girls are taught to submit to authority and
matrimony. As a result, women are regarded as incompatible to their male counterparts. Female roles
in literature were to follow the customs of marriage, for marriage meant social success. To be
unmarried is considered a failure as a woman, cursed to be a victim of society. Through out this essay
we will discuss the mistreatment towards unmarried women and the how they re negatively viewed by
society through works of literature such as Maggie, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
this misconceptions is rooted in the double standards of society: how men can ruin one women and
leave her for another with exemption. Rejected by her mother, brother, then by Pete, Crane writes
about Maggie s fate and how she went away (Crane 47). The last we see of Maggie, she is meeting
with her last client and, without knowing, led closer to her death. As a woman living in a bad
neighborhood, Maggie eventually working as a prostitute was not surprising given her circumstances.
Ironically, her brother Jimmie tells her go teh hell or go teh work! (Crane 13) with hell referring to to
prostitution. Becoming a prostitute later in the literature assumes that young, poor and unmarried
women have no means of escape from the hand they re dealt. Maggie seemed destined to be nothing
more than a prostitute and it left little affect that she dies that way. The crying from her family and
neighbors seemed more towards themselves then Maggie.
Henry James Daisy Miller makes known the differences between modern America and tradition
European customs through our protagonist, Daisy Miller. Unlike Cranes Maggie, Daisy is a young and
wealthy New Yorker whose family takes advantage of their wealth and social scene by traveling
abroad. Similar to Cranes Maggie, Daisy enjoys the company of the many gentlemen in New York and
abroad, representing the American flirt. Daisy follows her instinct and enjoys a looser structure of
living. She brings a refreshing insight on how young,

Viewers Perceptions of On-Air Cursing Essay
This study used a 2 x 2 x 2 design to examine the effects of warning labels, bleeping, and gender on
viewers perceptions and enjoyment of a docu drama. We also examined the individual difference
variable of verbal aggressiveness to test for possible interactions. Overall, the warning labels increased
enjoyment of the program containing profanity among college students. Bleeping had no effect on
either program liking or perceptions of realism; however, bleeping decreased perceptions of the
program s offensiveness, and increased viewers perceptions of profanity frequently estimates. Lastly,
verbally aggressive participants perceived the program as more realistic, and the language as less

Another airing of the same program self censored (or quot;bleeped quot;) the profanity. Therefore,
although program ratings have allowed viewers greater opportunity to filter their viewing, lowered
norms of self censorship have perhaps broadened the material available to them. These less restrictive
norms, on one hand, and more frequent labeling of material, on the other, lead us to ask how labels
and self censoring affect the enjoyment and perceptions of program content by viewers. Therefore, the
current study uses an experimental design to examine the effects of program labels and self censoring
on the perceptions and enjoyment of viewers. First, we will discuss the possible effects of warnings
and self censoring (bleeping) on viewers enjoyment and perceptions of the content. Next, we will
consider possible individual differences in viewers responses to the manipulations.
The Effects of Program Ratings and Warning Labels
Although few studies on program warnings had been conducted prior to the 1990s (see, however,
Austin, 1980; Herman amp; Leyens, 1977; Wurtzel amp; Surlin, 1978), the current use of program
warnings and ratings by the networks, combined with the increase in parental concern about
problematic media content (Cantor, Stutman amp; Duran, 1996), has created an environment in which
research into this issue has become more prevalent. A majority of these studies is grounded in
reactance theory (Brehm, 1981). Reactance

The American Counterculture and The Vietnam War Essay
The Nineteen Sixties were a time of grand turmoil in the United States. The nation almost came apart
at the seams many times throughout the decade. The government was involved in a plethora of things
at the time that the general population did not agree with. The most important was the Vietnam War.
The Vietnam War was the most publicly protested war in the history of the country. There were many
new forms of protesting used at this time. The most mainstream and effective way of protest was
through song. The lyrics of the songs of the sixties were laced with anti government and anti war
messages that were sometimes hidden and sometimes direct. The generation responsible for the new

The Woodstock Festival became very important for this reason. The festival was the most well
documented of all the large festivals in the sixties and had the most direct protesting. Woodstock has
been portrayed by the media to be the most important and influential festival of the sixties, however
that may not be the case. The Monterey Pop Festival is one of the pre Woodstock festivals that had the
same or more effect on the culture of the 1960s. The Monterey Pop festival took place directly in the
center of the counter culture seen during the movements most important year, 1967. The summer of
1967 is the most important year of the hippie movement because it gave the movement nationwide
awareness. It may have also led to the demise of the Cultural Revolution. The best example of the
summer of love was where it originated at the corners of Haight and Ashbury Street in the bay area of
San Francisco, California. This would be the location of the year s most important rock festival
(Perone 1). The narcotics LSD and Marijuana were the fuel for the Bay Area music scene. The drugs
were at the height of their use in 1967 influencing the various psychedelic acts that were then
becoming nationwide hits. Some of the area bands that would soon gain importance in the music
world were The Grateful Dead, The Jefferson Airplane, Big Brother and the Holding Company, The

Why Innovation Is An Tool For Generating Value And A...
The tendency of companies in recent years, as a result of globalization processes, has been to look for
business strategies in order to achieve improvement and competitiveness processes that become
fundamental for the growth of both production and productivity (Oslo Handbook, 2005), where
innovation is the necessary tool for generating value and a source of competitive advantage.
Explaining the relationships with the product, the process and the management of the company and
the innovation models, which in most cases are adapted to the needs of each company.
Although there are different statements of the term innovation, in a broad sense it can be said that
innovation is synonymous with change. However, in detailing this concept are more precise
definitions such as the one exposed by the Confederation of English Industries (1992), which says that
Innovation is the success of the exploitation of new ideas. The relationship between them, and
technology with the commercial elements of management, marketing and knowledge ; While the
OECD Oslo Manual, in its second version, explains it as the introduction on the market of
technologically new or improved products, as well as the use of production methods with

Diversity In Classroom Diversity
Within the core of many educational institutions, diversity is a commercial tacit. While every
institution cannot offer the same kind of diversity, the endorsement of such exists through various
definitions. The Western Association of Schools and Colleges define diversity through the various
classes: race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, disability, national origin, religion, sexual
orientation, and age ( Statement on Diversity ) Diversity within an educational institution is crucial to
developing well rounded individuals through discussions and interactions with individuals of a
different class. Applications of diversity towards an Honors community are even more crucial, as the
universal mission of an honors program is to invigorate its students to think at a higher caliber than
those outside of the program. With discussions of diversity, different perceptions, ideas, and ways of
thinking are promoted. Josh Packard, a Ph.D. holding sociology professor at the University of
Northern Colorado, finds that white students bring no substance to the classroom, as they only discuss
about the white ethnic groups. However, black students tend to discuss their experiences and tie them
into the academic content. In doing so, over a majority of white [students] specifically referenced
comments made by minority students in the classroom (150) when writing in their reflection journals.
This shows the profound impact that one comment by a black student can have in a

Everyone loves a freebie , from sweepstakes prizes to high street store coupons, anything that s free is

bonus, these promotions now run rampant across the Internet, but all may not what it seems. While on
paper these offers may seem all sweetness and light, given the sheer amount available and their often
sneaky terms and conditions, not all sportsbook bonuses are the same, nor do they all represent a win

sportsbook bonus available, along with the elements within them that you should be wary of.

Sign up Bonus (also known as a Initial Deposit Bonus or Registration Bonus)
Sign up sportsbook bonuses are by far the most common form of sportsbook bonus. Pretty much every
online bookmaker offers them year round, and given the current membership levels of many, they
seem to work to entice new players. When a new punter signs up for an online sportsbook operator
they will hand out a bonus that relates to a percentage of their first deposit. The percentage offered
usually falls between 50% and 200% and is of use most when it is fully maximised. This is because
seldom offer bonus provide players with the chance to claim as much.
Reload Bonuses
Reloaded bonuses can be seen as the type of bonus that allows winners to bounce back and losers to
keep losing. Working in a similar fashion to the previously mentioned sign up sportsbook bonus, they
reward players who continuously deposit after registration. For example, should your bankroll be fast
approaching zero, making another deposit could provide you with a reload bonus that will help further
your game time. The catch with reload bonuses is that your bankroll often needs to be below a certain
threshold for them to come into effect.
Refer a Friend Bonuses
Considered by far to be the most old school of sportsbook bonuses and one that is seeing a resurgence
in popularity. Refer a friend bonuses reward players who help facilitate new online sportsbook

The Use Of Ester Interchange Reactions During The...
PRODUCTION OF PET
We utilize the rapidity of ester interchange reactions during the production process. The acid
(terephthalic acid) is converted to the dimethyl ester, which is further purified by distillation or
crystallization. This is then allowed to react with the glycol by ester interchange. The reaction
generally is a two step reaction a. First, low MW polyester is made with excess of glycol to ensure that
the hydroxyl end groups are formed and then the temperature is raised and pressure is decreased to
facilitate condensation of these molecules by ester interchange simultaneously with the loss of glycol.
[7]
PET resins can be produced in two ways commercially. These two ways are by using one among
dimethyl terephthalate (DMT) or terephthalic acid (TPA) with Ethylene Glycol (EG). These processes
are generally known as the DMT Process and the TPA process. The intermediate bis (2 hydroxyethyl)
terephthalate monomer (BHET) is produced in both these processes. This is accompanied by methanol
when using DMT and water when using TPA. The BHET intermediate formed is polymerized with
heat and catalyst to produce PET resins. The older route is the DMT process. [8]
Process using DMT [9]
It is a two step process. The ratio of DMT to EG is generally 2:1. There is the possibility of using
either batch operation or continuous operations to produce PET using DMT. Some basic differences
between the batch operation and continuous operations:
In the continuous process the

Winged Protective Deity Analysis
The work titled Winged Protective Deity hails from the Assyrian empire and was created sometime in
the early to mid 800s BCE. The Assyrian empire was located in what is today known as Northern Iraq.
Assyrians were recognized as fearsome and ruthless conquerors of the ancient near east. This relief
sculpture features a winged male figure pollinating a sacred tree and it would have decorated the walls
of Ashurnasirpal II s Northwest Palace at Calakh. Assyrian kings often commissioned relief sculptures
and paintings for their palace walls to show off their power to anyone that may enter the palace. This

This would have been on the walls of Ashurnasirpal II s palace so it would have been seen by both
Assyrians or any opponents that may try to invade. The size of the work helps to enforce this idea of
power as well, this is a human sized work, the viewer is forced to confront the figure kind of face to
face; especially if they were interacting with it in its original context on the walls. Something that
shows up in Assyrian art is the idea of showing the strength of Assyrian warriors by also showing the
strength of their opponents. This can be seen in another relief sculpture from the Northwest Palace
Assyrian archers pursuing enemies, where the enemies are depicted as almost giants yet they are seen
fleeing across the Euphrates river from the Assyrian archers (Kleiner, Gardner s Art through the Ages:

  • 5. Gun Violence And The United States Essay Gun Violence in the United States For many years there has been a growing controversy between two sides. The side that wants to take away our right to have firearms and those that want to keep our rights in place. Because of this, gun violence in the US varies from state to state, depending on current gun laws in each individual state. States with the toughest gun laws are the states with the highest crime rates because of a victim inability to protect themselves. One must also remember that Criminals will always have guns and that safe zones are only safe for criminals. Achieving a delicate balance between owning guns and criminals having guns is definitely a challenge. While achieving a balance between a law abiding citizens right to own guns and keeping guns away from criminals may be challenging, it is something we should all strive for. A victim s inability to protect themselves or the one s they love, will always be an issue with certain laws. Those laws which restrict gun ownership would essentially hinder one s ability to protect themselves and leave them wide open for an attack. We have seen these stories in the news day after day. • 10. Spanking A Child The topic of should you spank your child has been a hot button topic recently in the U.S. While many Parents support the idea, some parents on the other hand are against the idea. In this thread, I will be stating my opinion on spanking a child. Why or why not? I will also be state weather or not the U.S should ban spanking, like many European countries have done. To start what is my position on spanking a child? While many parents tend to agree with the idea of spanking, I myself do not agree with the concept. My reason for this is because many adults say that spanking is a form of discipline. Well if we take a look at the word discipline, it stems from the word disciple, which means to teach. So based on that, what is it that you are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of those means can be embarrassment. At the ages of 10 to 18 years old it s all about image for a child. A child wants to fit in so bad that if a parent do something to disrupt that image it s mental, it s emotional, and depending on what you did it can be physical. Meaning you don t have to hit a child to get your point across, and all parents do it. Embarrassing a child is a rite of passage as a parent as well as a tool that is 100 percent legal. Now, should the U.S put a ban on spanking a child? My answer for that is no. My reason for this is because as a parent, there isn t a book on parenting, you are pretty much making it up as you go, and if you believe that spanking is the right thing to do. Then it shouldn t be up to the government to tell you how to parent. However, if you are hitting a child to an extensive degree causing physical marks that look 50 shades of purple, or leaving laceration marks from a switch, then you are clearly abusing a child and should be punished accordingly. Now would a law preventing spanking interfere with parenting decisions? Yes and no. What I mean by this is if you pass a law like this not all parents will comply, and be willing to learn new parenting techniques, while the parents who are willing to learn will not be affected because they are still finding ways to discipline their ... • 11. Hamlet Soliloquies Analysis All seven soliloquies in the play are based on several common themes such as death, incest, pain, fear, emptiness of existence, and pride and hypocrisy that make us human. To create these themes and further develop character, Shakespeare uses certain techniques. First of all, Shakespeare employs blank verse to create a smooth flowing rhythm and cadence. He masterfully switches back and forth between fast and slow pace by utilizing both short choppy sentences and fluent long ones. Secondly, it is clear that the soliloquies do not waste any word. Each syllable and sound adds depth to the development of Hamlet. Each soliloquy successfully conveys to the reader Hamlet s state of mind and intensity of his emotion. Most importantly, the soliloquies reveal something special that the play itself does no t. Just by looking at the play separately, it i s very hard for readers to notice the character development that Hamlet goes through. For instance, the beginning soliloquies prove that Hamlet is indecisive and irresolute. Thus, it i s the soliloquy found in each aAct of the play that readers can watch Hamlet grow internally. As an uptight and hypersensitive individual, Hamlet never seems to reveal much about his thoughts throughout the whole play. In fact, since Hamlet is inclined to express his emotions in a physically interactive way, including his abusive interaction with his mother and aggressive physical contact with Laertes and Claudius, it is rather difficult for the audience to interpret his intentions and his thoughts. His soliloquies, however, are the only ways in which the audience can finally gain an understanding of his thoughts. This soliloquy, also being the first, reveals him to be thoroughly disgusted with Gertrude, Claudius, and the world in general. This is when the King Claudius and Queen Gertrude urges Hamlet in the open court to cast off the deep melancholy which, as they think, has taken possession of his mind as a consequence of his father s death. In their opinion, Hamlet has sufficiently grieved for his father s death already. Prior to the soliloquy, King Claudius and Queen Gertrude announce their marriage, as according to them, the court cannot afford excessive grief, which further saddens ... The Importance of Semiotics to the Cultural Aspects of Philosophy From the perspective of the author of this paper, semiotics is the science of the semiosical process, whereas the semiosical process entails what is alluded to when John Dewey states that: I shall. . . connect sign and significance [sign significance], symbol and meaning [symbol meaning], respectively, with each other, in order to have terms to designate two different kinds of representative capacity. Linguistically, the choice of terms is more or less arbitrary, although sign and significance have a common verbal root. This consideration is of no importance, however, compared with the ... The Effects of Gatorade on Athletic Performance When athletes are training or competing, it is apparent that they sometimes benefit by consuming various drinks that contain water, carbohydrate and electrolytes. This can assist and improve an athlete s performance, and it may reduce physiological stress on an athlete s cardiovascular, central nervous and muscular systems. During endurance events Gatorade is an effective drink to have in order for the athlete to sustain their maximum energy throughout the competition. Gatorade has been proven to reduce the risk of hyponatraemia, improve endurance performance if consumed during training or competition and it allows fast release of fluid to the tissue as well as rapid fluid absorption. The fact that the Wehrmacht had defeated France in under three months in early 1940 only solidified Hitler s confidence in the superiority of Germany s military. In the 1930 s, Stalin had cleansed the Soviet military of all those whom he saw as a threat to his power which left the Red Army with few experienced leaders. The Soviet military was also ill equipped to fight which was evidenced by the difficulties the Soviets had in Finland in 1939. Stalin had signed the non aggression treaty with Hitler in hopes that the German army would get into a long and drawn out fight with the French and British, as they had in World War I, leaving Stalin with time to prepare his forces. Stalin simply did not trust the Germans to honor the non aggression pact and knew Germany would attack eventually. Leading up to the invasion, Stalin received several intelligence reports indicating Hitler s intention to invade. Over 3 Million Wehrmacht soldiers had massed along 1,800 miles of the Soviet border, yet Stalin forbid his soldiers from preparing for a preemptive strike against the German forces because he did not wish to provoke Hitler. Pretty much every online bookmaker offers them year round, and given the current membership levels of many, they seem to work to entice new players. When a new punter signs up for an online sportsbook operator they will hand out a bonus that relates to a percentage of their first deposit. The percentage offered usually falls between 50% and 200% and is of use most when it is fully maximised. This is because seldom offer bonus provide players with the chance to claim as much. Reload Bonuses Reloaded bonuses can be seen as the type of bonus that allows winners to bounce back and losers to keep losing. Working in a similar fashion to the previously mentioned sign up sportsbook bonus, they reward players who continuously deposit after registration. • 34. The Use Of Ester Interchange Reactions During The... PRODUCTION OF PET We utilize the rapidity of ester interchange reactions during the production process. The acid (terephthalic acid) is converted to the dimethyl ester, which is further purified by distillation or crystallization. This is then allowed to react with the glycol by ester interchange. The reaction generally is a two step reaction a. First, low MW polyester is made with excess of glycol to ensure that the hydroxyl end groups are formed and then the temperature is raised and pressure is decreased to facilitate condensation of these molecules by ester interchange simultaneously with the loss of glycol. [7] PET resins can be produced in two ways commercially. These two ways are by using one among dimethyl terephthalate (DMT) or terephthalic acid (TPA) with Ethylene Glycol (EG). These processes are generally known as the DMT Process and the TPA process. The intermediate bis (2 hydroxyethyl) terephthalate monomer (BHET) is produced in both these processes. This is accompanied by methanol when using DMT and water when using TPA. The BHET intermediate formed is polymerized with heat and catalyst to produce PET resins. The older route is the DMT process. [8] Process using DMT [9] It is a two step process. The ratio of DMT to EG is generally 2:1. There is the possibility of using either batch operation or continuous operations to produce PET using DMT. Some basic differences between the batch operation and continuous operations: In the continuous process the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Winged Protective Deity Analysis The work titled Winged Protective Deity hails from the Assyrian empire and was created sometime in the early to mid 800s BCE. The Assyrian empire was located in what is today known as Northern Iraq. Assyrians were recognized as fearsome and ruthless conquerors of the ancient near east. This relief sculpture features a winged male figure pollinating a sacred tree and it would have decorated the walls of Ashurnasirpal II s Northwest Palace at Calakh. Assyrian kings often commissioned relief sculptures and paintings for their palace walls to show off their power to anyone that may enter the palace. This would have been on the walls of Ashurnasirpal II s palace so it would have been seen by both Assyrians or any opponents that may try to invade. The size of the work helps to enforce this idea of power as well, this is a human sized work, the viewer is forced to confront the figure kind of face to face; especially if they were interacting with it in its original context on the walls. Something that shows up in Assyrian art is the idea of showing the strength of Assyrian warriors by also showing the strength of their opponents. This can be seen in another relief sculpture from the Northwest Palace Assyrian archers pursuing enemies, where the enemies are depicted as almost giants yet they are seen fleeing across the Euphrates river from the Assyrian archers (Kleiner, Gardner s Art through the Ages: The Western Perspective, p. 47). So it would make sense that sense that an Assyrian king would have such confidence that this piece could be the same size as the viewer and yet still leave an imposing ...
