Similarities Between Abigail Williams And John Proctor
Camryn Wroblewski
Queen Joyce
American Literature
7 December 2015
(Creative Title) What would your impression be if your husband had an affair with your old servant?
Well, two characters in the play portray this action. In The Crucible, having fear is by getting
witchcraft accusations and the tension by one another. These fears are consistently because they have
angry towards one another. Arthur Miller s play, The Crucible, illustrates the historical events of the
Salem witch trials which took in Salem, Massachusetts around 1692.
John Proctor and Abigail Williams were very different, but then again, had a few similarities. John
Proctor was married to Elizabeth Proctor for twenty years. When she turned ill, John fooled around
with Abigail ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The definition of foil is a character whose characteristics oppose another character. Like Abigail
Williams, John Proctor goes through a primary adventure during the play. However, their paths go in
complete reversed routes. Proctor goes from guilt to a place of truth. At the end of act four, he finds
his goodness by getting hanged for telling the truth. While Abigail is jealous, manipulative, and a liar
who runs away with Mercy Lewis with all of Parris s money because she can no longer have what she
wants. This connects to my life about how John Proctor is a brave man and would do anything for his
family. When I think the roles of a dad, what comes to mind is a provider, protector, knowledgeable,
and a role model. This explains perfectly who my dad was. Let s say when I was ten years I went into
the ocean and a shark had bitten me, my dad is the type of person who would come into the ocean,
knowing the shark is there, to rescue me and bring me to health. When I m sick, he gets me medicine
and takes me to a doctor. I don t think another person had more of a significant influence on me more
than my father.
Abigail and John in some shape or form came to the same reason. They both wanted to stay away
from arguing. They both care highly about their standing in the society. John cared about his name and
family life while Abigail cared about love and not wanting to go to jail.

The Wright s Journey Towards Becoming Famous Aviators
Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the
crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him (James 1:12). Orville and Wilbur
Wright s journey towards becoming famous aviators brought about many challenges. They
encountered physical injuries, educational setbacks, and numerous failed experiments, yet remained
determined to build a perfect aircraft. James 1:12 mentions the importance of keeping faith during
times of distress, a principle the Wright Brothers lived by. Despite every dilemma they faced, Orville
and Wilbur s perseverance is what made them a legend. Wilbur was the first brother to encounter a
curveball (or shall I say, a curve puck?). After being badly injured in an ice hockey game, he was
unable to continue his education or peruse his dreams of going to Yale. His injury brought about many
negative implications, but he refused to give up. He remained at home, educating himself by reading
from his father s library, until eventually going into business with his brother Orville. Originally, they
operated a paper business, but eventually, they followed their passion for mechanics and opened up a
Cycle Shop. While they worked to repair broken handlebars and pedals, they became inspired by the
research of Otto Lilienthal, a famous aviator. After hearing of his death in a glider crash, Orville and
Wilbur became determined to create the first powered aircraft. Attempting to understand the laws of

The Shadow Lines By Amitav Ghosh
With Indo Pak relations straining from worse to worst, the 1988 novel, The Shadow Lines, of Amitav
Ghosh gets more relevance as its major focus is on the partition inflicted psyches. A nation draws
boundary to separate its people from other nations. But, in the case of India and Pakistan the borders
are not strong enough to separate people who are the progenies of the same culture and history. How
can one divide a nation which has a common past, culture, history and heritage? In fact the makers of
the sensational news about the violence on the borders consciously forget the truth that one cannot
divide the memories of the people and in turn tries to foster in them hatred for the people across the
border. The novel helps us think of a free ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Being a Bengali, Ghosh brings into focal point the partition on the Bengal border. Though the novel
concentrates much on a single family it rides through the heart of the wounded India, Pakistan and
Bangladesh and covers a large span of India s freedom struggle. The narrator of Ghosh s novel is a
young boy born and brought up in Kolkata in the post partition India. If the purpose of partition was to
give freedom to the people, that freedom was a nightmare for the Bengalese. While reading the
newspaper, Amitav Ghosh s narrator is forced to ask: Why don t they draw thousands of little lines
through the whole subcontinent and give every place a new name? What would it change? It s a
mirage; the whole thing is a mirage. How can anyone divide a memory? (TSL 247) In fact freedom
was just a mirage for the people on the borders. The line was drawn through their heart; many of them
lost their home land; they were cut off from the root. Life in a translated world, away from their
homeland was something horrible for many. The grandmother of Ghosh s narrator is such a person
who lost herself in between the line, being born on one side and living on the other side of the

Yfz 450 Narrative
YFZ 450 One time in my life that I will never forget is when I got my first, and definitely not last,
YFZ 450. A YFZ 450 is an atv that is ready to race right out of the factory. It also is the top qualifying
race atv on the market. My dad and I both hop in the truck, my dad sort of reluctantly, but on the other
hand, I got in filled head to toe with excitement. He turns the truck on, and we begin our evening trek.
Our first stop that night was a mere 45 minute drive. We pull up and see a beautiful 450 sitting in his
driveway. We hop out and start admiring it in awe. We then hear his friends pull up in a nice little
tuner car.
After about 30 minutes, my dad hops on and takes off for a test run. He comes back with a wide, yet
terrified grin on his face. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He then walks up to me holding a pair of motocross pants and a jersey and just gives them to me. My
dad and I are both shocked. We then just start saying thank you over and over.
We all just walk down to the garage then, and take a look at the corvette of boats. He explains how it
runs on a crazy v8 and can jump close to 6 8 feet out of the water with the fins up. He then shows us
two crazy snowmobiles. What made them even cooler is that the had the powder tracks on them, and
were almost brand new.
We then walk up to the atv and offer him $2000. He then debates the number and says sure, why not.
We pull the rails from the truck and secure them on the tailgate. My dad starts it up and pulls it onto
the truck bed. It almost didn t fit into the bed! We close up the tailgate and drive off. On the way home
we kept our eyes peeled for a dairy queen to pick up only the best invention ever. The DILLY BAR!!!!
We get home and it is close to 11:00. We try to slowly creep upstairs, but we were caught by my mom.
We explained the whole thing to her. After that, we go straight to bed. That is the story of the time I

A Proposal to Stop the Poaching of the Siberian Tiger
One of the world s most beautiful creatures, the Siberian tiger, has been roaming earth for many years.
The Siberian tiger subspecies has been subjected to many obstacles, which make it very difficult for it
to survive. Their main threat is not lack of food, but man, one of God s most fierce and cruel species.
Because of man the tiger population has reduced to approximately 400 in the wild, and restricted their
remaining habitat to the Russian Far East (Field Projects). Man has done many things to destroy the
Russian Siberian tiger. They have cut down forests and moved in on the tiger s territory, causing them
to flee and become fragmented throughout Siberia making it hard for ... Show more content on

The Amba organization says, their rangers know the environmental legislation, and are trained in the
use of firearms and can handle criminals (Field Projects). Amba rangers try to stop poaching by
searching vehicles on secluded forest roads and looking for firearms, animals, or any other item that
may be suspicious. This project of anti poaching teams has proven to be successful, but it only stops
some of the poachers. Until they stop the main cause of poaching, which is trade, the killing will still
go on (Field Projects).
Poachers know they will always make money on tiger derivatives, because of Traditional Chinese
Medicine. The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and TRAFFIC, the wildlife trade monitoring program of
WWF, are trying to find ways to discourage the use of tiger parts for medicinal purposes and
encourage the use of effective substitutes. TRAFFIC has significantly extended its operation in Asia
and Russia. According to researchers, Russia has become the biggest supplier of Traditional Chinese
Medicine trade and exports (Field Projects). TRAFFIC investigations have led to numerous seizures
such as, tiger bones and skins, the arrest of an important smuggling gang, and the uncovering of illicit
trade routes between India, Nepal, Bhutan, and East Asia (Field Reports). WWF is also campaigning
for strengthened national legislation to ban imports and sales of these medicines in

Market Structures
In this paper, we will discuss the four market structures of Monopoly, Oligopoly, Monopolistic
Competition and Pure Competition. We have identified four companies that operate in each of these
market structures: Salt River Project, The Coca Cola Company, Russ s Market, and Columbia House.
In each market structure we will describe the pricing and non pricing strategies of the companies
operating in that market. We will also examine Quasar, a notebook computer company. They entered
the market with a new product and we will explain the progress from one market segment to the next
as the lifecycle of the product changes and the number of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, the oligopolistic firm has little to gain from utilizing pricing strategies that results in rigid
or inflexible prices. Oligopolistic firms rely on non pricing strategies of competition such as
advertising, product differentiation, and barriers to entry. The goal for oligopolies is to increase market
share while keeping price constant. The Coca Cola Company is the global leader for carbonated soft
drinks (Carbonated Soft Drinks Industry Profile: United States, 2005). In 2004, Coca Cola had a 44%
volume of the U.S. market, PepsiCo, Inc. had a 31.1% share, Cadbury Schweppes p/c had 15.2%
(Carbonated Soft Drinks Industry Profile: United States, 2005). The Coca Cola Company, PepsiCo,
Inc. and Cadbury Schweppes p/c hold 90.3% market share of carbonated soft drink (CSD) sales in the
U.S. while private label brands have only 0.4% share of the market (Carbonated Soft Drinks Industry
Profile: United States, 2005). The Coca Cola Company, Inc. exhibits oligopolistic characteristics
whereby it is the largest of three oligopolistic CSD companies in the U.S. market, offers differentiated
carbonated soft drink products, controls price with mutual interdependence, limits barriers to entry by
significant brand recognition and trademarks and has a high concentration ratio of 44%. Pricing
strategies for Coca Cola and the other CSD oligopoly firms, as stated above,

Grimm Brothers And Cinderella Comparison
Many have wondered why all Disney tails end in lies. Well here s what actually happened, Cinderella
a sweet girl, talks to mice and lives happily ever after. Yeah her, her story is actually really messed up
and takes a more sinister turn rather than a friendly kids story.
The Grimm Brothers version has some major differences as oppose to the Disney version. In the
Grimm brothers story we meet a young girl named Cinderella and her mother dies when she is very
young, Cinderella ends up living with her father and his new wife and her two daughters that are very
beautiful on the outside but rotten to the core on the inside. They treat their darling stepsister like a
slave or a maid by taking away all of her extravagant clothes with old ragged clothes and took away
her comfortable shoes and gave her back old wooden shoes that would give anyone blisters. One day

little rated R. So the sisters don t fit into Cinderella s slipper so they both decide to cut off their toes
and heels, it s gets worse after the prince finds out that the shoe is really Cinderella s they go off and

Advertisement Coursework
Missing Image/Advertisement Image This advertisement has been created to promote the Volkswagen
Golf Gt to an environmentally friendly audience. It achieves this by using the powerful juxtaposition
of a peaceful image contrasting with a dark and violent scene. To further this contrast, the advertiser
has placed the car directly in the center. This implies there are two very different personalities to the
car. Effectively personifying the car. Upon further examination of the image, we see varied features.
On the dark side, we see a covered moon. This may be used to convey a sense of mystery or possibly
to give the impression that the car is a beast. This relates to the classic movie image of werewolves

Assumingly, the deer is there as the embodiment of peace in the image. Whereas, the violence is
embodied within the wolves. Verbal Text The initial text we see is a parallel phrase. ?High
performance, low emissions,? suggesting the best of both worlds. This is because of the constant
image that we gather from the car industry is that of harming the planet. High performance is not
something we relate with low emissions. The words ?high? and ?low? are antonyms reflecting the
dual nature of the car. In the main block of text, the writer initially uses the word ?welcome? to forge a
personal relation with the audience. As if to invite you to ?the world of the new look Golf Gt.? This is
done to attract you to the advert as friendly and attractive. The text speaks directly to the audience, so
they feel privileged, as if they have special access. In the sentence ?Voted Best New Engine 2006?,
every word begins with capital letters. This is to express that the car has won an award, so it has an
official title. The writer constantly repeats the word ?new? to present what the car is. Different to
anything else. The advert lists the features to build up to an implication of extra features. These are
incentives to indicate the car?s value for money. The subject specific jargon is there for a reason. To
make the audience feel intelligent. In turn, makes the writers emerge as experts. The use of imperative

Sow By Sylvia Plath Analysis
In Sylvia Plath s Sow , a narrator describes a Brobdingnagian female pig. The language of the poem
repeatedly emphasizes the sheer size of the sow, the narrator and neighbor s perceptions, and the
reader s perceptions. Although the language in Plath s Sow presents the sow as enormous in the reader
s, neighbor s, and narrator s perception, it actually symbolizes the sow as both a gigantic pig and a
mythological creature. It cannot be denied that the poem s language reflects the neighbor s and
narrator s perception and consequently determines the reader s. In line 2, the sow is described as great
, suggesting its sheer vastness. The neighbors and the narrator also gape at it in line 10, further
emphasizing its enormity. Their perception ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In line 1, the narrator states God only knows , implying that the sow is divinely designed and therefore
above human comprehension. This amazement reflects the confusion and bewilderment in the
neighbor s and narrator s perception, thus determining the reader s perception of the portrayal of the
sow. This divine diction is further evident when the narrator describes the barns as a maze. This image
alludes to Greek Mythology s Daedalus, a magnificent engineer who designed the Greek Labyrinth.
This labyrinth contained the enormous and terrifying Minotaur, much like the farmer s barn maze
containing this Brobdingnagian sow. The narrator s diction then switches to ordinary diction,
regarding food and money. These meager images increase the sow s greatness by providing contrast
and thus shifting the reader s perception of it. These contrasts also help shape the theme s emphasis on
its mythological and legendary status. Additionally, the greatness of the sow is furthered as the
narrator describes the image and allusion to a magnificent boar goring a knight and subsequently
mounting the sow. This image parallels with other species of animals fighting to the death so that it
may be desirable to a mate. This image continues to contribute not only to the collective perception
but to the theme as a whole; the

Explain What Will Happen When Will The Bomb Explode
[b][size=150][lib]Will the bomb explode?[/lib][/size][/b]
By Dame Eliza Bell MP, Member of Parliament for Truro
It has become apparent in recent days and weeks that there is a growning mistrust and even frustration
between the Prime Minister and her Chancellor of the Exchequer notwithstanding the fact that Mrs.
Aylward prefered to present the speech in Parliament on her own, rather than following centuries of
tradition and trusting the minister responsible. Indeed, she didn t even thank her own Cabinet member
for the work or rather mention him at all throughout the whole speech. Moreover, during a press
release, another confusion arrose the release itself claimed that there is a significant degree of mistrust
while the Chancellor s words stated just the opposite. So what next, when will the bomb explode?
It was just several years ago that a political divorce of that kind occured between the then Prime
Minister, Margaret Thatcher, and the then Chancellor Nigel Lawson. As a result, not only the
Conservative government was weakened, but so was the British economy as a ... Show more content

Auto Wreck By Karl Castro
Poetry Analysis Paper
The Auto Wreck by Karl Shapiro is a grasping poem that digs into the universe of death and the
thought of voyeurism from the point of view of a spectator. Shapiro decorates the poem with
intriguing inconspicuous dialect and a lovely, although rather disheartening, depiction of death all
through the poem. While this is poetry, the creator still consolidates components of writing that apply
to both stories and poetry. As Shapiro weaves a word web, he utilizes a few prevailing components
which guarantee that the audience is understanding his point.Through symbolism, personification and
sound work, Shapiro imagines all parts of a vehicle s wreck from a voyeuristic point of view,
eventually evacuating the comfort of separation which produce a sweeping casualty.
Imagery utilizes the ability to create heart felt moments from the audience. Shapiro uses imagery all
through Auto Wreck which enlivens the revulsions of a vehicle s wreck before the eyes of blameless
onlookers. As we read ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This, the volta of the lyric, is set off by the vital utilization of inquiries and abbreviated line length.
Shapiro could be utilizing this line as a question of how demise picks its casualties and the
arbitrariness of an auto wreck. He experiences a few distinct sorts of death, including cancer, suicide,
and war, advocating how each picks its sufferer. Leaving vehicle wreck for definite investigation.
Shapiro presumes that car wrecks, in reality, are the one reason for death that is arbitrary and assaults
the guiltless. While the passings that originate from car wrecks are totally irregular, an optional sort of
death is encountered that very few individuals think about. The exploitation of the on looking
eyewitness quite often happens. By stripping the level of solace from the spectator, he, similar toward
the victim himself, develops until they are just as

All Men Are Created Equal Dbq
All men are created equal , though this would be a fact of the Western World society today, it was
certainly not always that way. With the beginning of slavery in the 1600s, to becoming the main cause
of the Civil War and abolishment of it, here is slavery; from the Union s point of view.
The earliest form of slavery in North America can be traced back to Jamestown, Virginia in 1619.
There, they were called the Twenty and Odd and considered servants rather than slaves. Though little
is known about this infamous event, this trade continued of capturing Africans from Africa and
bringing them to the colonies of Britain. The usage of slaves increased and were often used as field
laborers on plantations, house workers, blacksmiths ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They had more supplies, better outfits and an efficient way to make weapons compared to the South.
By the end of the war, there were roughly 198,000 African Americans in the Civil War. This was a
controversy for not only some of the Union who refused to fight alongside an African American, but
also for the South who would see them in combat. There were disputes among both sides over the
Union taking slaves from the South and ultimately rescuing them. Though the North claimed it was
legal, considering slaves were property and both sides were allowed to raid and confiscate property
from each other. This was particular accomplishment on the Union s half, for it took the Confederate s
words and used them against them.
The Union won the war and slavery was officially abolished with the thirteenth amendment in 1865.
This great accomplishment brought America one step closer to equality, though there is still work to
be done today in the Western World. Though this resolution leaves the future bright for all places in

The Resilience Center Lists The Definition Of Resiliency
The Resiliency Center lists the definition of Resiliency as:
Able to recover quickly from misfortune; able to return to original form after being bent, compressed,
or stretched out of shape. A human ability to recover quickly from disruptive change, or misfortune
without being overwhelmed or acting in dysfunctional or harmful ways. As in Our team showed great
resilience, or Our team had good resiliency. (n.d.)
There are numerous points of view on resiliency, as non‑governmental associations (NGOs) perceive
that individuals capacity to better withstand and recuperate from calamities is basic to maintaining
improvement. NGOs, contributors and worldwide reaction groups are attempting to characterize
resiliency in their terms. CRS characterizes resiliency as the capacity of people, communities and
institutions to advance integral human development in the face of shocks, cycles and trends (2014,
p.2). The vulnerable individuals themselves best characterize strength and resiliency. What vulnerable
individuals accept helps most to their versatility limit is discriminating to current dialogs on resiliency.
Contributors and NGOs may have their own meaning of the term; however, an understanding of what
it really means to individuals looking to make their community resilient is crucial to outlining
successful Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and recovery activities in development, risk reaction and
catastrophe recuperation programs (CRS, 2014). The danger of not utilizing the

Parental Figures In The Power Of One By Bryce Courtenay
Parental figures tend to shape children into the individuals they become later in life. In The Power of
One by Bryce Courtenay, Peekay lacks the traditional parental figure that most people have, and
instead crosses paths with many significant people over the course of the book. This puts Peekay at an
advantage because he is able to see the world through different perspectives, the perspectives of those
who mentored him. He learns from people of all walks of life, which leads to him being unbiased and
open minded. Peekay also is at an advantage because he has to learn to think for himself. His mentors
help him with this, but the lack of a true parent forces him to learn this skill early on and master it by
time is was older. Finally, each of Peekay s mentors have something different to offer, a different key
piece of advice, that give him a set of morals to live by. In the Power of One, the lack of the traditional
parental figure helps further Peekay s maturity and helps him to attain his own power of one. Peekay
is mentored by a variety of people throughout the book, all who come from different backgrounds and
who have different life experiences. Over the course of the book, Peekay is mentored by a mixed
prisoner, a professional boxer, and an old German professor. None of these people have anything in
common except for their love and concern for Peekay, and Peekay respects all of them because that is
what Geel Piet teaches him when he first begins to coach him. If they

Jonathan Swift Satire
In the satirical work of Gulliver s Travels by Jonathan Swift, the author draws attention to many
elements of society that can be reflected in the modern day. With further investigation into the
literature, it is plain to see that Swift, an Irishman, was extremely bitter about the state of the
government and the control it maintained over other regions. From incompetent rulers to a focus on
reason and rationality, we can see that the themes discussed by Swift in the novel have repeated
themselves throughout the historical ages. Throughout the entire story, it is noticeable to the reader
that there is not much in the way of plot surrounding Gulliver, the main character. Swift does not give
textual insight as to Gulliver s inner workings or thoughts. This arguably happens mainly in the genre
of satire because the author wants the reader to focus most of their attention on the social or political
that are being referenced to within the writing. The same holds true for this story, as Swift heavily
hints at the incompetency of King George I. One of the main points that Swift draws attention to is
that of the gross incompetency and corruption of the various rulers. For instance, in Book One, the
emperor of Lilliput is egocentric and for the most part, lets his ministers run the country. This is a
distinct hint at the King George I of England, who did not know anything about politics and allowed
parliament to do most of the ruling, holding him simply as a power figure. However,

Social Issue Poster Analysis Essay
For our Capstone Project, our CMST 1061 class retold a fairytale using the five different
communication pathways, and we retold Peter Pan. My group, Group #1, was assigned the pathway of
Public Discourse to retell Peter Pan. Following the public discourse pathway, we chose to create social
issue posters to serve as the lens through which to view Peter Pan. We chose social issue posters as the
method for our capstone project because we felt that a series of social issue posters would leave a
stronger impression on the viewers, as well as communicate our message and retelling in the clearest
way possible. Social issue posters are used to deliver messages directly and powerfully through visual
impact and we wanted our project to leave a lasting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We wanted our retelling of Peter Pan to challenge the idea of protagonists and antagonists in
fairytales. There is an obvious antagonist in Peter Pan named Captain Hook. Captain Hook is known
for his hook prosthetic on one of his hands, and the reason Captain Hook must use a hook as a
prosthetic is because Peter Pan, the protagonist, cut off Captain Hook s hand and fed it to an alligator.
Many readers and viewers of Peter Pan often ignore the merciless bullying and teasing towards
Captain Hook by Peter Pan, simply writing it off as the protagonist defeating the antagonist for the
greater good. Through this project, we wanted to illuminate the character flaws in Peter Pan,
Tinkerbell, and Mr. Darling, to show that the imperfect protagonists in a story can be just as
tormenting as the antagonists. To do so through the pathway of public discourse, we needed to create
powerful images to go along with our slogan for our series of social issue posters. We used images
from the story that conveyed the character flaws of the three chosen characters, and then

The Viscosity of Liquids
39. The Viscosity of Liquids
After studying the present lecture, you will be able to
Define viscosity and viscosity coefficient
Outline the method to measure viscosity using Ostwald viscometer
Determine the average molecular weight of a polymer
Determine the surface concentration of 1 butanol in aqueous solution
Measure the distribution coefficient of a solute betweenn two solvents
39.1 Introduction
Viscosity, one of the transport properties, arises because of intermolecular attractive and relatively
long range forces. Viscosity coefficient ([pic]), a specific constant characteristic of a liquid could be
expressed by the following equation of Poiseuille.
[pic] ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The constant a is sensitive to the shape and varies from zero for hard sphere or 0.5 for random coils to
2.0 for rigid rods.
Variation of specific viscosity of a solution [pic] (specific viscosity or reduced viscosity) is defined as
[pic], where [pic] is the viscosity of solution i and [pic] the viscosity of pure solvent) with the
concentration of solute is given by the equation:
[pic] (39.7)
where, c is concentration of the polymer in g/mL and K is a constant.
The determination of average molecular weight of polyvinyl acetate in acetone and methanol uses the
following Procedure:
Prepare solution of polyvinyl acetate in acetone containing approximately 1 mg/ mL. From this
prepare four more solutions of 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8 mg/ mL by dilution. Measure the specific viscosity of
all the four solutions as described above.
Repeat the above experiment with solution of polyvinyl acetate in methanol.
Plot [pic] versus c and calculate [pic] and K from equation (2). Also, using the empirical formula (1)
and constant of K and a from the table given below, determine the molecular weight of polyvinyl
acetate in these two solvents.
|Solvent |K |a |
|Acetone |21.4 x 105 |0.68 |
|Methanol |38 x 10 5 |0.59 |

All Rights Reserved What Is Organisational Climate? The term organisational climate can be used
in either a technical or a colloquial sense. As a technical term, it is defined as a set of measurable
properties of the work environment, based on the collective perception of the people who live and
work in the environment and demonstrated to influence their motivation and behaviour. As an
everyday term, it describes the way it feels to work in an organisation. People use climate as a catchall

It is low when there is confusion over who has decision making authority. Scores on this dimensions
measure the feeling of pressure to improve performance and the degree of pride employees take in
doing a good job. High scores mean people are always looking for ways to improve performance. Low
scores reflect lower performance standards. Standards Responsibility Scores on this dimension reflect
the feeling employees have of being their own boss and of not having to constantly check decisions
with others. High responsibility scores signify that employees are encouraged to solve problems on
their own. Low responsibility scores indicate that risk taking and the testing of new approaches tend to
be discouraged. 1 Litwin and Stringer (1968); Cannon (2004) A Proven Tool for Improving Business

job well done. This is a measure of the emphasis placed on reward versus criticism. High recognition
climates are characterised by an appropriate balance of reward and criticism. Lower scores on
recognition mean that good work is inconsistently rewarded. Scores on this dimension reflect the
feeling of trust and mutual support that prevail in the organisation. Support is high when employees

THE HISTORY
Financial management has a long and distinguished history. Consider, for example, that Socrates
wrote about the universal function of management in human endeavors in 400 B.C. and that Plato
developed the concept of specialization for efficiency in 350 B.C. Evidence of sophisticated financial
management exists for much earlier times: the Chinese produced a planning and control system in
1100 B.C., a minimum wage system was developed by Hammurabi in 1800 B.C., and the Egyptians
and Sumerians developed planning and record keeping systems in 4000 B.C.1 Many ... Show more

They usually perform much of the strategic planning for the organization. 2. The process view. These
managers generally work with the system of the organization. They may be responsible for data
accumulation. They are often affiliated with the information system hierarchy in the organization. 3.
The clinical view. These managers generally are responsible for service delivery. They have direct
interaction with the patients and are responsible for clinical outcomes of the organization.
The Elements of Financial Management 5
Managers must, of necessity, interact with one another. Thus, managers holding different views will be
required to work together. Their concerns will intersect to some degree, as illustrated by Figure 1 1.
The nonfinancial manager who understands healthcare finance will be able to interpret and negotiate
successfully such interactions between and among viewpoints. In summary, financial management is a
discipline with a long and respected history. Healthcare service delivery is a business, and the concept
of financial management assists in balancing the inflows and outflows that are a part of the business.

Bowen Family Systems Theory Summary
Bowen s Family Systems Theory Bowen s Family Systems Theory Overview This adaptation of
systems theory was coined by Dr. Murray Bowen and is referred to as Bowen s Family Systems
Theory. According to Murdock (2013), this particular adaptation of systems theory is considered one
of the most reputable and well constructed compared to that of its counterparts. The author states that
family systems theories can be utilized with individuals as well as with specific relationships within
the family unit, however the majority of therapy is done with individual clients utilizing the context of
the family unit. According to Murdock (2013), it is the family system therapist s belief that the client

K. Guerin and P.J. Guerin claimed that, an individual with a strong sense of self is clear about where
they end and where the others begin. They are able to distinguish thought from feeling, and their
behavior is guided by their own principles and cognitions rather than emotional factors (as cited in
Murdock, 2013, p. 442). An individual who is highly differentiated is emotionally autonomous and is
able to engage in a healthy, intimate relationship while preserving the secure sense of self.
Alternatively, a person who is exhibiting signs such as reactivity, rigidity and responses based on
emotion rather than cognition, are thought to be low on the spectrum of differentiation and are likely
to endure acute anxiety (Murdock, 2013, p. 443). According to Murdock (2013), when an individuals
emotions and thoughts are enmeshed and this lack of differentiation causes mal adaptive behaviors,
the individual is considered to have a fused sense of self. A fused individual can also be identified as a
low differentiated individual. According to Murdock (2013), Bowen believes that sibling position and
birth order within a family system s present and past three generations is imperative to analyze in
order to recognize patterns of differentiation and fusion within a family s system. Additionally, the
author states that Bowen believes that triangulation is, the basic

Tata Nano has invented a car that has a couple of strong competitive advantages. The most important
advantage is that the car is relatively cheap and therefore affordable for more people than regular cars
like Volkswagen and Ford. But does this competitive advantage also apply for the Dutch market? In

Status is an important aspect in Europe driving the cheapest car in the world might not be seen as a
good status symbol. Next to that, Tata Motors might know a lot about the Asian market. But the
European market is way different. Lack of market knowledge is a weakness by entering the market,
this could be fatal. Thereby a Tata Nano distribution channel still has to be developed in Europe which
will cost a lot of money and makes it hard to do business in the beginning.
Next to the businesswise weaknesses there are some practical weaknesses in the car too. The fact that
the Tata Nano does not have a modern facility like ABS, PS or AC for example. In addition the car has
less boot space than other regular brands. This makes it less attractive for tall people to buy such a car.
In general western people are taller than Asian people which might cause a problem. Next to this,
another practical problem is the fact that the car has no headlight levelers. Headlight levelers might be
seen as a luxury device, but these modern days all cars have it. When someone is used to this kind of
functions it can be a reason not to buy the car. Thereby the car is not really fit for hilly areas. It is
small and the engine is not powerful enough to drive up to steep hills. People living in Austria, Suisse
or areas of France and Spain will rather buy a four wheel drive car than a Tata Nano. Another practical
weakness is the Tata Nano s poor fraction control. For a lot of people outstanding

Jumping Bean Lab Report
The Mexican Jumping Bean is indigenous to Mexico and has a peculiar life cycle. The process begins
when a moth (Cydia deshaisiana) lays its egg inside a plant (Sebastiania pavoniana) then the egg
incorporates itself with the seed of the flower. When the larvae hatches it eats its way to the inside of
the flower. It lives their until the spring rains come which separates the seed into 3 pieces (Each of
those pieces harden and turn into a brownish color.) and one of those pieces is where the larvae is.
This means that the larvae is trapped inside the bean. From then on the bean becomes part of the
larvae and until the larva turns into a moth it is part of it. Finally after some time the bean will spin a
silk cocoon and then go dormant for a few days. Afterwards it will reemerge as a moth. It will then
live for some days before it dies after it becomes a moth. During its lifetime as a bean it jumps or
moves a little bit every so often. We wanted to discover how temperature would affect the number of
times it jumped so we decided to test our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

seemed to go dormant which proved that our predictions were correct after examining the

Miss Dior Advertising In Advertising
For many people in the world to see an advertisement and move past it because they find them rather
annoying has become the normalcy of today s society. However, if people actually paid attention to
those advertisements the readers would find that they think some of the ads should not have been
allowed. An ad for Miss Dior perfume was presented in a late issue of Vogue with a model who looks
to be about twenty four years old. The model has shoulder length blonde hair, a clear skin tone, and a
facial expression that could be considered provocative. The model is naked and only covered by a
dress that she holds up which still only covers a portion of her top, middle section, and private area.
Despite this dress, her complete right leg, thigh, arm, neck, and shoulders are revealed. In the
foreground is a Miss Dior perfume bottle with the words Miss Dior and you, what would you do for
love? . In Jean Kilbourne s Killing Us Softly 4, she states that advertisements often send certain
messages about women. Kilbourne claims that unrealistic ideas of women are often proposed within
ads, such as symbolizing women as objects and not people, or even the idea that if you are not
beautiful, then you are nothing. In the Dior advertisement, a few of its aspects uphold statements made
by Jean Kilbourne such as sexualizing models to sell a product, emphasizing the idea of looking
young and attractive, and placing models in vulnerable positions.
The main thought of the Miss Dior ad that is

The Pros And Cons Of Prison Rehabilitation
When examining the problems with America s prisons, rehabilitation might be thought of as more of a
humanistic approach to reprimand. However, I will argue that under the current prison model,
rehabilitation is neither a desirable nor moral practice.
It is uncontroversial to note that the current prison system is a hostile environment. Inmates are
coerced to live in an environment of constant fear and dehumanization behind zoo like bars. Treated as
criminals first, humans second, inmates are subject to unsanitary and overcrowded living conditions
with the expectation that they will learn from their mistakes and emerge a new person. Nevertheless,
71% of released prisoners are convicted of a serious crime within three years, and 68% return to
prison for at least one day. These high recidivism rates only magnify overcrowding, prison violence,
and the already unsanitary living conditions. According to Barnett, rehabilitation as a theory of
punishment arose as a reaction to the failure of this type of punishment:
Punishment failed to reform the criminal...so attention was turned to modifying ... Show more content

sentiment I respond that certainly criminals will not possess the motivation for self improvement
within a coercive environment such as prison. Even the most heinous criminals deserve the chance for
growth, and a goodness pill not only does not offer that chance. One might also object that coercion is
necessary for the enforcement of laws, however, It is not my intention to debate when coercion is
justifiable, only to demonstrate that rehabilitation cannot be productive under a coercive model. Using
rehabilitation as an approach for reprimand within our current prison system might be good
intentioned, but it is nonetheless

study that may be met with various definitions. It may be viewed as a the study of how people choose

economics is the study of how products are managed in terms of how prices are determined to

How Does Langston Hughes Use Symbols In Thank You Ma Am
In the short story Thank You Ma am, Langston Hughes uses symbols frequently throughout the book
to stir empathy, show motivation, build a mood, and provide context clues. Langston demonstrates
that he used many context clues throughout the story, and with these context clues, he provides the
goal symbolism. Here is the first sample of symbolism.
The main symbol that appears routinely throughout the book is the pocketbook that Roger attempted
to steal. She was walking alone, when a boy ran up behind her and tried to snatch her pocketbook.
This is important because this provides us with the fact that Roger has turned to a life of crime,
because he is in need of money. I just wanted a pair of blue suede shoes. The whole reason he strived
to steal the pocketbook is so he could buy himself a pair of blue suede shoes. This is also the
motivation of him trying to steal the pocketbook, and it builds the mood. This was the first symbol

Examples Of Absurdism In The Birthday Party By Harold Pinter
Harold Pinter is one of the most prominent living dramatists of the age. The seventy three year old
Pinter, who has written twenty nine plays and twenty one screen plays and who has directed twenty
seven theater productions, is one of the early practitioners of the Theater of the Absurd which started
in the fifties. Absurd, which is one of the many different aspects of his works, functions as a means of
getting into the reality that is Pinter s main concern.
Harold Pinter belongs to the group of the twentieth century absurdist playwrights who came to
become known as the innovators of an Avant garde style in their playwritings by breaking away from
the old concepts of morality, religion and sentimentality. The post world war playwrights and writers
such as Beckett, Eugene Ionesco, Genet, Adamov and T. S. Eliot became well aware of the social,
political and economic tribulations that jeopardized the existence of modern man. The utter
helplessness of man and his futile efforts to escape resulted in the emergence of the theories of
absurdism and existentialism, and there was a shift in the definition of what was considered the real
and the unreal. Harold Pinter s play The Birthday Party explicates the sense of absurdity of human life
trapped in a claustrophobic atmosphere. The theme of absurdism in Pinter s The birthday Party
consists in the playwright s implication that there is no logical progression of the plot. ... Show more

Women s Role In The American Corrections System
The American corrections system has many facets to it as well as many challenges that each and every
individual within its system must learn to cope with. Not everyone who is in some sector of the
corrections system can deal with what corrections entails because the life that they led outside of the
corrections system isn t always the same. This can especially be said for women who find themselves
part of the corrections system simply because of the role that women generally face within their

corrections system. There were three principles found to be of importance for this time of prison
reform and they were, (1) separation of women prisoners from men, (2) provision of differential care,
and (3) management of women s prisons by female staff (Clear, 2013). Basically the concern was
female prisoners to be house separately from the male prisoners in a facility ran by female staff.
In state prisons it is estimated that women account for nearly twenty five percent of the workforce
(Clear, 2013). However in the Federal Bureau of Prisons it is estimated that women only account for
approximately thirteenth percent of the officers (Clear, 2013). Out of the total population of prison
inmates, only approximately seven percent are female whereas the population of female jail inmates is
approximately twelve percent.
An issue that is of concern is the safety of female officers when working within a male prison facility.

Investing Inside A Qualified Retirement Plan
There was a time not so long ago that investing was simple Stocks, bonds and mutual funds, notes,
and annuities that was it. Today, investors enjoy access to the same types as investments as in times
past with Real estate, Real Estate Investment Trust s (REIT s), Derivatives, Hedge funds, Currencies
and so many more thrown into the mix. Here we will consider Real estate investing, the different types
of real estate to consider and why one serves the investor over another as it relates to investing inside a
qualified retirement plan. Unlike so many other investments, real estate is unique because it can be
leveraged. Banks will lend upwards to 60% percent of the properties value with non recourse funds
inside retirement plans. Only plans that have a certain income through annual contributions or large
cash flows from wholly owned properties should leverage, especially on commercial or industrial
assets. Generally, there are 3 types of investments: Land, Commercial/Industrial and Residential. Land
is a complex investment that requires a certain level of expertise, which many investors do not
possess, but can provide explosive returns. Investing in land can require years of negative cash flows
before any appreciable gain is realized. As land is considered, two important rules of land investing
comes to mind: 1) The profit made in virtually any land deal is made the day of purchase, which is to

What Is The Theme Of Isolation In East Of Eden
John Steinbeck once wrote, the word timshel Thou mayest that gives a choice. It might be the most
important word in the world. That says the way is open (301). As explained in his book East of Eden,
Timshel is the idea that one makes conscious choices about their lives rather than taking what they get.
Because Adam Trask is rejected by those he trusts most and lets those rejections inhibit him, the
comfort of Timshel does not appear to him until late in his life. Though Adam is favored by many
throughout the book, he experiences rejection by those closest to him. The first rejection he feels is by
his brother, Charles Trask. Through most of their childhood, Charles dislikes Adam because their
father favors him. He is jealous of the relationship between Adam and their father because he tries so
hard to please his father, but his father chooses Adam. Charles jealousy is seen when he confronts
Adam after their father and Adam had a secret talk: What did you do on his birthday? You think I didn
t see? Did you spend six bits or even four bits? You brought him a mongrel pup you picked up in a
woodlot. You laughed like a fool and said it would make a good bird dog. That dog sleeps in his
room... And where s the knife? Thanks, [their father] said, just Thanks (29). Charles believes that
Adam does not even have to try to receive their father s love, while Charles has to work his hardest to
get any kind of recognition. Another person that rejects Adam is Cathy Trask, Adam s wife. From the
start of their relationship, Adam sees Cathy in a light that is not true to who she is. He sees her as the
perfect wife that agrees with everything he says and wants to achieve the same dreams as he does. But
this false notion of Cathy causes her to reject Adam. After moving across the country against her will
and having children with Adam, Cathy believes she is ready to leave him. She tells Adam this, but he
does not take it well and tries to convince her to stay. She replies I don t give a damn what you
believe. I m going... I can do anything to you. Any woman can do anything to you. You re a fool (199).
She shoots Adam before leaving her twins and their house behind. Because Adam holds Cathy on a

Misconceptions Of Luciferianism
Despite the negative connotations that are often associated with the owl during the medieval period,
the Aberdeen Bestiary portrays the owl in a positive manner. The night owl or noctua is said to signify
Christ. It makes this connection by using the statement; Christ loves the darkness of night because he
does not want sinners who are represented by darkness to die but to be converted and live (Aberdeen
Bestiary). The Bestiary continues by stating, [Christ] He flees from the light, in the sense that he does
not look for the glory of human praise (Aberdeen Bestiary). The lesson from this passage is that Christ
did not actively seek the light similar to how owls avoid the light. That the nocturnal nature of owls to

As an ancient Ammonite god, Moloch was worshiped by the Canaanites, Phoenicians, and other
cultures in North Africa. The Phoenicians and Canaanites would require sexual rituals as well as an
expiatory child sacrifice by the parents. These sacrifices have typically been understood to mean
burning a child alive. Specifically, the idols of Moloch were giant statues of a man with a bull s head
where idol had a hole in the abdomen. A fire was lit around the statue and the baby was placed in the
hole so that it could be ritually sacrificed. It was believed that Moloch would provide prosperity for
the family and future children. While this practice has been eliminated, a similar practice has recently
arisen that uses the deity of

History Of The Cherokee Indians
`The Cherokee Indians were a very modern group of Native Americans; they had successfully blended
into the American way of life. For example, they made their government like the American way,
translated the Bible, and even used American rules for owning property. Life for the Cherokee nation
seemed to be going well, but in 1832 they would have to fight for their land. Gold was discovered in
Georgia, so Georgians wanted to force the Cherokee Indians out, so they would have more gold. The
Cherokee Indians fought in a nonviolent way; they sued. In Worcester v. Georgia (1832), which
followed a similar case from the ear before, Cherokee, Georgia, the Supreme Court ruled that the
Cherokee nation was a sovereign nation and that the state of Georgia

Persuasive Essay On The Importance Of The Internet
Every one of us living in the twenty first century has used the internet or have at least known about it.
The internet is crucial to our daily lives now, it not just a simple fad that gets forgotten in a week or
two, but a tool that we utilized every day. The number of benefits that comes from the internet is
uncountable, for example with the aid of the internet we now have instantaneous access to work,
entertainment, medical, and countless more. Though that may change with the Federal
Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Ajit Pai proposing to end net neutrality or also known
as the open internet. Net neutrality was designed to keep the internet, open, fast, free, and safe from
prominent Internet service providers (ISP) companies like Verizon, Comcast, and TimeWarner from
trying to charge more for speed, and specific website access, something that is and should be free from
the beginning. One author of the article Net neutrality: needed or not? states that Net neutrality is
about protecting the status quo that is the open Internet. On many levels, the term open Internet is
redundant. If it weren t open, it wouldn t be the Internet. He is right the internet would not be the same
if everyone did not have equal access because of companies trying to profit. Others, however, are
saying that there is no need for having net neutrality because it is unwanted and hindering the markets
from being able to rise sufficiently. According to the study The end of net

Essay On Sky Rocketing
Credit Card Delinquencies Are Sky Rocketing And There s Just One Answer That s Sustainable
With the stock markets at record highs and unemployment at a comfortable, there is one problem that
is currently being overlooked. That issue is consumer debt and it should not be ignored, even during
the good times and it should be a great concern for most people.
The stubbornness of cumbersome personal debt following a recovery highlights problems that are
systemic. Even with healthy looking numbers, jobs are still rapidly going overseas. Student debt
increases as the cost of attending College keeps getting more costly. In certain instances, prosperity
might even ensure a debt crisis that s going downhill when, for instance, local communities ... Show

The two options are debt settlement services that are for profit and non profit credit counselors such as
the NFCC, which was started in 1951. The NFCC was the country s first and biggest such
organization that was committed to enhancing the financial well being of people. We will compare the
two alternatives and look at where we as a country want to invest our energy.
The member agencies of the NFCC offer millions of consumers in person financial education, online
or via the phone. A holistic approach is taken where a thorough financial review is taken and they
come up with a financial action plan that is tailored made for each client according to their goals. The
Certified Counselors at the NFCC take the full gamut into account, from counseling for bankruptcy
and credit card debt to first time home buyers and student debt and ultimately an in depth financial
education. Keep in mind that one in three of the NFCC members provides multiple services that
involve mentoring youth, chemical dependency programs, etc.
NFCC Board Chair and President Debbie Bianucci, who is also CEO of BAI (a 90 year old company
that serves financial services organizations) said that from their extensive experience, the most
effective way to deal with the problem of debt is to help empower consumers with the education and
experience required to produce a solid action plan and to develop the discipline to

Drunk Driving Essay
Worldwide, 1.2 million people are killed and 50 million people are injured yearly from traffic
accidents, costing around $500 billion dollars, forty percent of the accidents involve alcohol impaired
drivers (Wu, 2016). Many people drive while under the influence of alcohol because they do not see
the risk of getting into an accident or potentially injuring someone. They only see the convenience of
not leaving their car somewhere or purchasing a driving service. Driving while under the influence of
alcohol has a negative impact on society. Drunk driving is detrimental to families, studies show that it
takes human life, and has a legal punishment. When a drunk driver gets into an accident, they are not
only affecting them self, but others ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Twenty eight people in the United States are killed in traffic accidents that include a drunk driver
every day which adds up to approximately one death every 51 minutes ( Motor Vehicle , 2017). There
is a devastating amount of human life taken by accidents involving a drunk driver. Due to a selfish and
quick decision, so many people with futures, goals, and aspirations have died. In 2015, 10,265 people
died in alcohol impaired driving crashes, accounting for nearly one third (29%) of all traffic related
deaths in the United States ( Motor Vehicle , 2017, p. 1). The impact on human life is calamitous and
needs to be addressed.
Drunk driving also impacts people legally. Specifically, in WA BAC measured above 0.08 is
considered a DUI while a BAC above 0.15 is considered an aggravated DUI, or a DUI that results in
higher fines, increased jail time, and a longer license suspension period (Hansen, 2014, p. 1582),
however, the punishment varies from state to state. The punishment when caught drunk driving is
extortionate, reasonably so, but some are never caught before it is too late. Although it may seem
easier at times or from a thoughtless decision, the legal punishment along with all the risks make
drunk driving s consequences severe. It is likely that many drunk drivers will be caught by law
enforcement because they look for indicators such as erratic driving so that they can stop accidents
from happening. However, they cannot catch

Human Nutrition And Its Effects On The Health Of Obese People
Human nutrition is one of the vital topics discussed in the fields of health, largely because a diet
predicts the well being of the human species. Recently, Americans have been eating a particularly
hurtful diet, deficient in nutrients needed to maintain a healthy physiological state. A steady increase
of obese and overweight people developed over the course of the last century to present day, and the
issue has only recently gained the attention of the public. The cause for concern is due to the health of
obese people. They have an increased risk for health complications such as diabetes, high blood
pressure, stroke, cardiac arrest, hypertension, coronary heart disease, cancer (specifically endometrial,
kidney, and gallbladder), etc (Head 1 2). Obesity and overweight are ways to define a person with
more than normal body fat, which is measured on the body mass index chart (Harvard School of
Public Health). According to the Centers of Disease Control, an adult with a BMI between 25 kg/m2
and 29.9 kg/m2 is labeled overweight, making a BMI of over 30 kg/m2 the label for obesity. In
children, overweight falls between the 85th and 95th percentile of BMI, with obesity being over the
95th percentile (CDC). In 2012, a total of 68.5% of the adult population is either obese or overweight,
and the same qualifies for 16.9% of children (The State of Obesity). Despite the risks associated with
an excessive weight, obesity rates have yet to significantly decline for all age groups, and the

from physicians that buy equipments; this data can be access to find out what type of referrals they

The Art Teacher Entered The Classroom
Frank looked up as the art teacher entered the classroom. What was he doing here? This was English,
not art. Do you have Iero? Mr Way, the art teacher, asked the English teacher, Mr Brown. Frank s eyes
widened, not expecting that. Frank s in here. Mr Brown said, all heads turning to him. Frank blushed.
Mr Way looked at Frank for a little while and nodded his head to the door. Come with me. Frank
nodded, scrambling to his feet and following the tall teacher. Seriously, Frank was really short. He
looked up at Mr Way, feeling a bit anxious. The thing was, was that Mr Way fucking scared Frank. He
wasn t intimidating in any way, and always joked around with the kids, but Frank was just terrified at
the mere thought of talking to him. Mr Way s voice snapped Frank back to reality. Do you know what
class Toro and Ballato are in right now? Uh, Ray s in literature, I think? And Lindsey s in chemistry...
Frank said, trailing off. Mr Way nodded, looking at Frank. Don t be so nervous, now. You re not in
trouble. Frank wanted to say, that s not the reason I m nervous, but decided to instead laugh a bit and
nod. Follow me. Mr Way said, beckoning Frank with his hand. They made it to literature and
chemistry, gathering the three kids and the art teacher in the middle of the hallway outside of Mr
Brown s room. Alright. You aren t in trouble, Mr Way eyed Frank, then, quickly averting his gaze to
the other two students, continued talking. you three

Julian Postage Stamp
Why Doesn t Percy L. Julian have a Stamp Already?
I strongly believe that Percy L. Julian deserves a United States postage stamp. He was quite
intelligent, educated, and hard working, and helpful chemist. He was the first black chemist elected to
the National Academy of the Sciences. This is one of the reasons I strongly believe he deserves a
United States postage stamp. Julian never had a chance at a completely normal education but he
became a very smart individual. When Julian had finished the eighth grade he couldn t go to high
school because at that time there were no high schools open to black students. Instead, he went to
Depauw University. When he went to the University he needed to also take high school level classes

  • 2. Similarities Between Abigail Williams And John Proctor Camryn Wroblewski Queen Joyce American Literature 7 December 2015 (Creative Title) What would your impression be if your husband had an affair with your old servant? Well, two characters in the play portray this action. In The Crucible, having fear is by getting witchcraft accusations and the tension by one another. These fears are consistently because they have angry towards one another. Arthur Miller s play, The Crucible, illustrates the historical events of the Salem witch trials which took in Salem, Massachusetts around 1692. John Proctor and Abigail Williams were very different, but then again, had a few similarities. John Proctor was married to Elizabeth Proctor for twenty years. When she turned ill, John fooled around with Abigail ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The definition of foil is a character whose characteristics oppose another character. Like Abigail Williams, John Proctor goes through a primary adventure during the play. However, their paths go in complete reversed routes. Proctor goes from guilt to a place of truth. At the end of act four, he finds his goodness by getting hanged for telling the truth. While Abigail is jealous, manipulative, and a liar who runs away with Mercy Lewis with all of Parris s money because she can no longer have what she wants. This connects to my life about how John Proctor is a brave man and would do anything for his family. When I think the roles of a dad, what comes to mind is a provider, protector, knowledgeable, and a role model. This explains perfectly who my dad was. Let s say when I was ten years I went into the ocean and a shark had bitten me, my dad is the type of person who would come into the ocean, knowing the shark is there, to rescue me and bring me to health. When I m sick, he gets me medicine and takes me to a doctor. I don t think another person had more of a significant influence on me more than my father. Abigail and John in some shape or form came to the same reason. They both wanted to stay away from arguing. They both care highly about their standing in the society. John cared about his name and family life while Abigail cared about love and not wanting to go to jail. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Wright s Journey Towards Becoming Famous Aviators Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him (James 1:12). Orville and Wilbur Wright s journey towards becoming famous aviators brought about many challenges. They encountered physical injuries, educational setbacks, and numerous failed experiments, yet remained determined to build a perfect aircraft. James 1:12 mentions the importance of keeping faith during times of distress, a principle the Wright Brothers lived by. Despite every dilemma they faced, Orville and Wilbur s perseverance is what made them a legend. Wilbur was the first brother to encounter a curveball (or shall I say, a curve puck?). After being badly injured in an ice hockey game, he was unable to continue his education or peruse his dreams of going to Yale. His injury brought about many negative implications, but he refused to give up. He remained at home, educating himself by reading from his father s library, until eventually going into business with his brother Orville. Originally, they operated a paper business, but eventually, they followed their passion for mechanics and opened up a Cycle Shop. While they worked to repair broken handlebars and pedals, they became inspired by the research of Otto Lilienthal, a famous aviator. After hearing of his death in a glider crash, Orville and Wilbur became determined to create the first powered aircraft. Attempting to understand the laws of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Shadow Lines By Amitav Ghosh With Indo Pak relations straining from worse to worst, the 1988 novel, The Shadow Lines, of Amitav Ghosh gets more relevance as its major focus is on the partition inflicted psyches. A nation draws boundary to separate its people from other nations. But, in the case of India and Pakistan the borders are not strong enough to separate people who are the progenies of the same culture and history. How can one divide a nation which has a common past, culture, history and heritage? In fact the makers of the sensational news about the violence on the borders consciously forget the truth that one cannot divide the memories of the people and in turn tries to foster in them hatred for the people across the border. The novel helps us think of a free ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Being a Bengali, Ghosh brings into focal point the partition on the Bengal border. Though the novel concentrates much on a single family it rides through the heart of the wounded India, Pakistan and Bangladesh and covers a large span of India s freedom struggle. The narrator of Ghosh s novel is a young boy born and brought up in Kolkata in the post partition India. If the purpose of partition was to give freedom to the people, that freedom was a nightmare for the Bengalese. While reading the newspaper, Amitav Ghosh s narrator is forced to ask: Why don t they draw thousands of little lines through the whole subcontinent and give every place a new name? What would it change? It s a mirage; the whole thing is a mirage. How can anyone divide a memory? (TSL 247) In fact freedom was just a mirage for the people on the borders. The line was drawn through their heart; many of them lost their home land; they were cut off from the root. Life in a translated world, away from their homeland was something horrible for many. A YFZ 450 is an atv that is ready to race right out of the factory. It also is the top qualifying race atv on the market. My dad and I both hop in the truck, my dad sort of reluctantly, but on the other hand, I got in filled head to toe with excitement. He turns the truck on, and we begin our evening trek. Our first stop that night was a mere 45 minute drive. We pull up and see a beautiful 450 sitting in his driveway. We hop out and start admiring it in awe. We then hear his friends pull up in a nice little tuner car. After about 30 minutes, my dad hops on and takes off for a test run. He comes back with a wide, yet terrified grin on his face. ... He explains how it runs on a crazy v8 and can jump close to 6 8 feet out of the water with the fins up. He then shows us two crazy snowmobiles. What made them even cooler is that the had the powder tracks on them, and were almost brand new. We then walk up to the atv and offer him $2000. He then debates the number and says sure, why not. We pull the rails from the truck and secure them on the tailgate. My dad starts it up and pulls it onto the truck bed. It almost didn t fit into the bed! We close up the tailgate and drive off. On the way home we kept our eyes peeled for a dairy queen to pick up only the best invention ever. The DILLY BAR!!!! We get home and it is close to 11:00. A Proposal to Stop the Poaching of the Siberian Tiger One of the world s most beautiful creatures, the Siberian tiger, has been roaming earth for many years. Their main threat is not lack of food, but man, one of God s most fierce and cruel species. Because of man the tiger population has reduced to approximately 400 in the wild, and restricted their remaining habitat to the Russian Far East (Field Projects). The text speaks directly to the audience, so they feel privileged, as if they have special access. In the sentence ?Voted Best New Engine 2006?, every word begins with capital letters. The language of the poem repeatedly emphasizes the sheer size of the sow, the narrator and neighbor s perceptions, and the reader s perceptions. Although the language in Plath s Sow presents the sow as enormous in the reader s, neighbor s, and narrator s perception, it actually symbolizes the sow as both a gigantic pig and a mythological creature. This amazement reflects the confusion and bewilderment in the neighbor s and narrator s perception, thus determining the reader s perception of the portrayal of the sow. This divine diction is further evident when the narrator describes the barns as a maze. This image alludes to Greek Mythology s Daedalus, a magnificent engineer who designed the Greek Labyrinth. This labyrinth contained the enormous and terrifying Minotaur, much like the farmer s barn maze containing this Brobdingnagian sow. The narrator s diction then switches to ordinary diction, regarding food and money. These meager images increase the sow s greatness by providing contrast and thus shifting the reader s perception of it. These contrasts also help shape the theme s emphasis on its mythological and legendary status. Additionally, the greatness of the sow is furthered as the narrator describes the image and allusion to a magnificent boar goring a knight and subsequently mounting the sow. This puts Peekay at an advantage because he is able to see the world through different perspectives, the perspectives of those who mentored him. He learns from people of all walks of life, which leads to him being unbiased and open minded. Peekay also is at an advantage because he has to learn to think for himself. His mentors help him with this, but the lack of a true parent forces him to learn this skill early on and master it by time is was older. Finally, each of Peekay s mentors have something different to offer, a different key piece of advice, that give him a set of morals to live by. In the Power of One, the lack of the traditional parental figure helps further Peekay s maturity and helps him to attain his own power of one. Peekay is mentored by a variety of people throughout the book, all who come from different backgrounds and who have different life experiences. Over the course of the book, Peekay is mentored by a mixed prisoner, a professional boxer, and an old German professor. None of these people have anything in common except for their love and concern for Peekay, and Peekay respects all of them because that is what Geel Piet teaches him when he first begins to coach him. • 17. Jonathan Swift Satire In the satirical work of Gulliver s Travels by Jonathan Swift, the author draws attention to many elements of society that can be reflected in the modern day. With further investigation into the literature, it is plain to see that Swift, an Irishman, was extremely bitter about the state of the government and the control it maintained over other regions. From incompetent rulers to a focus on reason and rationality, we can see that the themes discussed by Swift in the novel have repeated themselves throughout the historical ages. Throughout the entire story, it is noticeable to the reader that there is not much in the way of plot surrounding Gulliver, the main character. Swift does not give textual insight as to Gulliver s inner workings or thoughts. This arguably happens mainly in the genre of satire because the author wants the reader to focus most of their attention on the social or political that are being referenced to within the writing. The same holds true for this story, as Swift heavily hints at the incompetency of King George I. One of the main points that Swift draws attention to is that of the gross incompetency and corruption of the various rulers. For instance, in Book One, the emperor of Lilliput is egocentric and for the most part, lets his ministers run the country. This is a distinct hint at the King George I of England, who did not know anything about politics and allowed parliament to do most of the ruling, holding him simply as a power figure. However, ... My group, Group #1, was assigned the pathway of Public Discourse to retell Peter Pan. Following the public discourse pathway, we chose to create social issue posters to serve as the lens through which to view Peter Pan. We chose social issue posters as the method for our capstone project because we felt that a series of social issue posters would leave a stronger impression on the viewers, as well as communicate our message and retelling in the clearest way possible. We wanted our retelling of Peter Pan to challenge the idea of protagonists and antagonists in fairytales. There is an obvious antagonist in Peter Pan named Captain Hook. Captain Hook is known for his hook prosthetic on one of his hands, and the reason Captain Hook must use a hook as a prosthetic is because Peter Pan, the protagonist, cut off Captain Hook s hand and fed it to an alligator. Many readers and viewers of Peter Pan often ignore the merciless bullying and teasing towards Captain Hook by Peter Pan, simply writing it off as the protagonist defeating the antagonist for the greater good. Through this project, we wanted to illuminate the character flaws in Peter Pan, Tinkerbell, and Mr. Darling, to show that the imperfect protagonists in a story can be just as tormenting as the antagonists. To do so through the pathway of public discourse, we needed to create powerful images to go along with our slogan for our series of social issue posters. We used images from the story that conveyed the character flaws of the three chosen characters, and then photoshopped the infamous hook prosthetic on to the hand of each character. The hook is a symbol of evil in Peter Pan, so by adding the hook to each character s social issue poster, we were able to provide a stronger and clearer message that illuminated the wrong doings of each character. The social issue posters allowed us to show our viewers, rather than tell them, the message that we wanted to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Next to the businesswise weaknesses there are some practical weaknesses in the car too. The fact that the Tata Nano does not have a modern facility like ABS, PS or AC for example. The process begins when a moth (Cydia deshaisiana) lays its egg inside a plant (Sebastiania pavoniana) then the egg incorporates itself with the seed of the flower. When the larvae hatches it eats its way to the inside of the flower. It lives their until the spring rains come which separates the seed into 3 pieces (Each of those pieces harden and turn into a brownish color.) and one of those pieces is where the larvae is. This means that the larvae is trapped inside the bean. From then on the bean becomes part of the larvae and until the larva turns into a moth it is part of it. Finally after some time the bean will spin a silk cocoon and then go dormant for a few days. Afterwards it will reemerge as a moth. However, I will argue that under the current prison model, rehabilitation is neither a desirable nor moral practice. It is uncontroversial to note that the current prison system is a hostile environment. Inmates are coerced to live in an environment of constant fear and dehumanization behind zoo like bars. Treated as criminals first, humans second, inmates are subject to unsanitary and overcrowded living conditions with the expectation that they will learn from their mistakes and emerge a new person. Nevertheless, 71% of released prisoners are convicted of a serious crime within three years, and 68% return to prison for at least one day. The seventy three year old Pinter, who has written twenty nine plays and twenty one screen plays and who has directed twenty seven theater productions, is one of the early practitioners of the Theater of the Absurd which started in the fifties. Absurd, which is one of the many different aspects of his works, functions as a means of getting into the reality that is Pinter s main concern. Harold Pinter belongs to the group of the twentieth century absurdist playwrights who came to become known as the innovators of an Avant garde style in their playwritings by breaking away from the old concepts of morality, religion and sentimentality. The post world war playwrights and writers such as Beckett, Eugene Ionesco, Genet, Adamov and T. S. Eliot became well aware of the social, political and economic tribulations that jeopardized the existence of modern man. The utter helplessness of man and his futile efforts to escape resulted in the emergence of the theories of absurdism and existentialism, and there was a shift in the definition of what was considered the real and the unreal. Today, investors enjoy access to the same types as investments as in times past with Real estate, Real Estate Investment Trust s (REIT s), Derivatives, Hedge funds, Currencies and so many more thrown into the mix. Here we will consider Real estate investing, the different types of real estate to consider and why one serves the investor over another as it relates to investing inside a qualified retirement plan. Unlike so many other investments, real estate is unique because it can be leveraged. Banks will lend upwards to 60% percent of the properties value with non recourse funds inside retirement plans. Only plans that have a certain income through annual contributions or large cash flows from wholly owned properties should leverage, especially on commercial or industrial assets. Generally, there are 3 types of investments: Land, Commercial/Industrial and Residential. Land is a complex investment that requires a certain level of expertise, which many investors do not possess, but can provide explosive returns. Investing in land can require years of negative cash flows before any appreciable gain is realized. As land is considered, two important rules of land investing comes to mind: 1) The profit made in virtually any land deal is made the day of purchase, which is to say always buy lower than market; 2) For everyday a land asset is held in ... Each year it costs the Charitable Fund £1.6 million to award grants to students and candidates and to the people that are homeless, prisoners or disabled. I used this website to help me choose what I should hire for my charity event. This site offers staffs that I can hire such as the crew staff that help to set up the equipment such as the Under 8s Super Heroes Bouncy Castle; to keep the children active. Even though the majority of the activities are provided by them, they didn t include the prices to hire the equipment or staff. Therefore, I used a different website. There is a variety of activities from this website that I can hire and they include all the information of the prices and when it is available to hire rather than waiting 2 days to get a quote (which was my main problem when searching for activities to hire for my event.). From this website, I have decided that to hire the 25ft x 25ft Adults/Childs Bouncy Castle at a price of £275, which I believe is suitable and eye catching to all ages, is one of the options I can take. It is also stated on the website that it is fit for adults as well as children. However, I compared the price to another website and I found that I could hire the same size bouncy castle by a difference of £135 which is a much better deal. Therefore, I am definitely ... • 39. What Is The Theme Of Isolation In East Of Eden John Steinbeck once wrote, the word timshel Thou mayest that gives a choice. It might be the most important word in the world. That says the way is open (301). As explained in his book East of Eden, Timshel is the idea that one makes conscious choices about their lives rather than taking what they get. Because Adam Trask is rejected by those he trusts most and lets those rejections inhibit him, the comfort of Timshel does not appear to him until late in his life. Though Adam is favored by many throughout the book, he experiences rejection by those closest to him. The first rejection he feels is by his brother, Charles Trask. Through most of their childhood, Charles dislikes Adam because their father favors him. He is jealous of the relationship between Adam and their father because he tries so hard to please his father, but his father chooses Adam. Charles jealousy is seen when he confronts Adam after their father and Adam had a secret talk: What did you do on his birthday? You think I didn t see? Did you spend six bits or even four bits? You brought him a mongrel pup you picked up in a woodlot. You laughed like a fool and said it would make a good bird dog. That dog sleeps in his room... And where s the knife? Thanks, [their father] said, just Thanks (29). Charles believes that Adam does not even have to try to receive their father s love, while Charles has to work his hardest to get any kind of recognition. Another person that rejects Adam is Cathy Trask, Adam s wife. From the start of their relationship, Adam sees Cathy in a light that is not true to who she is. He sees her as the perfect wife that agrees with everything he says and wants to achieve the same dreams as he does. But this false notion of Cathy causes her to reject Adam. After moving across the country against her will and having children with Adam, Cathy believes she is ready to leave him. She tells Adam this, but he does not take it well and tries to convince her to stay. She replies I don t give a damn what you believe. I m going... I can do anything to you. Any woman can do anything to you. You re a fool (199). She shoots Adam before leaving her twins and their house behind. Because Adam holds Cathy on a pedestal and continually ... • 40. Misconceptions Of Luciferianism Despite the negative connotations that are often associated with the owl during the medieval period, the Aberdeen Bestiary portrays the owl in a positive manner. The night owl or noctua is said to signify Christ. It makes this connection by using the statement; Christ loves the darkness of night because he does not want sinners who are represented by darkness to die but to be converted and live (Aberdeen Bestiary). The Bestiary continues by stating, [Christ] He flees from the light, in the sense that he does not look for the glory of human praise (Aberdeen Bestiary). The lesson from this passage is that Christ did not actively seek the light similar to how owls avoid the light. That the nocturnal nature of owls to search for food at ... The internet is crucial to our daily lives now, it not just a simple fad that gets forgotten in a week or two, but a tool that we utilized every day. The number of benefits that comes from the internet is uncountable, for example with the aid of the internet we now have instantaneous access to work, entertainment, medical, and countless more. Though that may change with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Ajit Pai proposing to end net neutrality or also known as the open internet. Net neutrality was designed to keep the internet, open, fast, free, and safe from prominent Internet service providers (ISP) companies like Verizon, Comcast, and TimeWarner from trying to charge more for speed, and specific website access, something that is and should be free from the beginning. One author of the article Net neutrality: needed or not? states that Net neutrality is about protecting the status quo that is the open Internet. On many levels, the term open Internet is redundant. If it weren t open, it wouldn t be the Internet. He is right the internet would not be the same if everyone did not have equal access because of companies trying to profit. Others, however, are saying that there is no need for having net neutrality because it is unwanted and hindering the markets from being able to rise sufficiently. Drunk Driving Essay Worldwide, 1.2 million people are killed and 50 million people are injured yearly from traffic accidents, costing around $500 billion dollars, forty percent of the accidents involve alcohol impaired drivers (Wu, 2016). They only see the convenience of not leaving their car somewhere or purchasing a driving service. Driving while under the influence of alcohol has a negative impact on society. Twenty eight people in the United States are killed in traffic accidents that include a drunk driver every day which adds up to approximately one death every 51 minutes ( Motor Vehicle , 2017). There is a devastating amount of human life taken by accidents involving a drunk driver. Due to a selfish and quick decision, so many people with futures, goals, and aspirations have died. In 2015, 10,265 people died in alcohol impaired driving crashes, accounting for nearly one third (29%) of all traffic related deaths in the United States ( Motor Vehicle , 2017, p. 1). The impact on human life is calamitous and needs to be addressed. Drunk driving also impacts people legally. Specifically, in WA BAC measured above 0.08 is considered a DUI while a BAC above 0.15 is considered an aggravated DUI, or a DUI that results in higher fines, increased jail time, and a longer license suspension period (Hansen, 2014, p. 1582), however, the punishment varies from state to state. The punishment when caught drunk driving is extortionate, reasonably so, but some are never caught before it is too late. Although it may seem easier at times or from a thoughtless decision, the legal punishment along with all the risks make drunk driving s consequences severe. It is likely that many drunk drivers will be caught by law enforcement because they look for indicators such as erratic driving so that they can stop accidents from happening. Human Nutrition And Its Effects On The Health Of Obese People Human nutrition is one of the vital topics discussed in the fields of health, largely because a diet predicts the well being of the human species. Recently, Americans have been eating a particularly hurtful diet, deficient in nutrients needed to maintain a healthy physiological state. A steady increase of obese and overweight people developed over the course of the last century to present day, and the issue has only recently gained the attention of the public. The cause for concern is due to the health of obese people. They have an increased risk for health complications such as diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke, cardiac arrest, hypertension, coronary heart disease, cancer (specifically endometrial, kidney, and gallbladder), etc (Head 1 2). Obesity and overweight are ways to define a person with more than normal body fat, which is measured on the body mass index chart (Harvard School of Public Health). According to the Centers of Disease Control, an adult with a BMI between 25 kg/m2 and 29.9 kg/m2 is labeled overweight, making a BMI of over 30 kg/m2 the label for obesity. In children, overweight falls between the 85th and 95th percentile of BMI, with obesity being over the 95th percentile (CDC). In 2012, a total of 68.5% of the adult population is either obese or overweight, and the same qualifies for 16.9% of children (The State of Obesity).
