Graphic Design Of A Graphic Designer Essay
Graphic design is everywhere; it is a way of communicating through the use of type, space and image.
Graphic designers use numerous methods to create and combine words, symbols, and images, which
creates a visual representation of ideas and messages. A graphic designer may use a combination of
typography, visual arts and page layout techniques to produce a final result. William Morris and Joost
Schmidt have both used these techniques to produce astonishing pieces of graphic design, which are
going to be compared and contrasted throughout this essay. The 1923 legendary typographer and
graphic designer Joost Schmidt in Weimar, Germany created Bauhaus Exhibition Poster. The other
piece of design I have decided to analyse is a two page spread of the edition of works of Geoffrey
Chaucer. This was the Kelmscott press finest achievement; it was designed by William Morris and
illustrated by his friend Burne Jones. This was the most beautiful book of its day; it serves as a tribute
to Chaucer and to Morris himself. (Meggs, P., Purvis, A. 2006).
These design outcomes came from two very contrasting movements. The Arts and craft Movement
and the Bauhaus movement. The Arts and Crafts Movement was an international design movement
that thrived between 1800 and 1910. The main influence was writer and designer William Morris.
William Morris was one of the most influential designers of the Arts and crafts movement. He led the
way for the practice of producing and designing without the

The Polish s New Prosperity
Civilizations are constructed and inhabited by people. No matter where they come from, the color of
their skin or the language they speak they have the right to coexist. Immigrants from all around the
world have come to one great nation to live the dream. America was founded by immigrants which
today are now naturalized citizens by birth and that have several generations of families. The
American population will always continue to grow not with the naturalized births but with the arrival
of immigrants. Immigrant communities in the first half of the twentieth century were marked by
increasing prosperity as well as by cultural change. Despite the hardships of industrial life, workers of
all ethnic groups were able to achieve a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The new culture of the Polish was a combination of the new (America) and of the old (back in Poland)
that became from the industrial and urban communities. Immigrants all alike had poor living
conditions, working conditions and received little pay for the demanding jobs that they performed.
The factory owners/manager s bottom line was how much money will they make and how little to pay
the workers. Not only did the immigrants get paid a small wage, they worked in horrible conditions
that would eventually take a toll on their health and finally their lives. They would also work 12 14
hour days with typically one day off between. Studies have shown that various governmental,
regional, and demographic factors are also associated with voting turnout. I employ these variables (1)
to guard against spurious correlations between the size of immigrant populations and turnout, and (2)
as indicators of structural potentialities in urban political systems. (Gordon, 1970) The laws that
regulate the registration of the immigrants are not easier in the large populations of the cities. This was
due to the difficulty of how spread out the communities was. However, there were some states that did
pass literacy tests to determine the literacy level of the communities and immigrants. This changed the
turnout of the level of the immigrants due to the increasing size of the

And Then There Were None Justice
In the vast collection that is Agatha Christie s mystery novels, And Then There Were None is regarded
as one of her best, and also possibly the most uniquely presented story of them all. The novel, known
as both And Then There Were None and Ten Little Indians, provides a unique look at the concepts of
guilt and justice in comparison to other detective novels by Agatha Christie and other well renowned
authors of the genre. Each of the ten characters exhibits varying degrees of guilt towards past actions,
and as they each meet their untimely deaths, the reader is left to ponder whether or not the deaths are
justified. Going against the standard tropes of a classic mystery novel, Ten Little Indians leads readers
to question their own concepts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When neither the victims nor the murderer is innocent, readers are driven to actually think and
consider the themes presented as they form their own decisions and take on the story. While the
majority of mystery novels maintain the same constant portrayals of the themes of guilt and
innocence, Agatha Christie is able to present an entirely unique scenario that turns everything known
of these themes entirely around and changes almost everything people believe about

Coming of Age in Mississippi vs. The Jungle Paper
Coming of Age in Mississippi vs. The Jungle Paper
There is an argument that states that Anne Moody s tale in Coming of Age in Mississippi is a more
optimistic tale then that of Jurgis Rutkis in The Jungle and vice versa. This is not the case. When you
take the time to analyze both story, you come to find that both have the same pessimistic core. The
only difference is the character Jurgis was optimist throughout most of the beginning despite his
circumstances yet in the end he loses all hope while Anne throughout was a realist who was
determined to succeed.
I feel that Anne Moody story is a blunt open description of how hard live was for Blacks.
Anne never minced words when it came to the events that took place in her life; a lot ... Show more

She was determined to seek out equality. These realities started when she became aware of the
differences in how Blacks are treated with in their race how light skinned were treated better than dark
skinned. Raymond was going with a yellow woman at the same time he was going with Mama. All of
his people wanted him to marry her. They didn t want him to marry
Mama, who wasn t yellow and who was stuck with the three of us. This type of racism is prevalent in
the south during the pre Civil Rights period. Ms. Moody learns how badly White
People can treat Black by the death of Emmit Till.
When faced with the facts of Moody s life, it is not hard to figure out where the inspiration and
optimism comes in to play. A person can find hope when thinking about the dedication and diligence
she took in being a good student from elementary through high school.
The optimism comes from looking at how she scrapes together the money it took to go to college.
Even though she might have grown up with a hard life, she fought for different ways to better it. Her
diligence to have a better life is best described by her commitment to the Civil
Rights movement. She was willing to go the distance to get the equal rights she felt was owed to her.
Look at how Moody kept pressing to get blacks in Mississippi to register to vote. At the time, little
more the 5% of African Americans in Mississippi were registered voters. This is in large part

The Tragedy Of Othello, The Moor Of Venice
The Tragedy of Othello, the Moor of Venice: War steal s the ability to love.
Haunted by the past, seeing threats around every corner, and trying to love, this is what we see in the
play The Tragedy of Othello, the Moor of Venice by William Shakespeare. As we are told the story of
three soldiers and there loves we see how each shows there faults and trauma from a life of service.
Cassio the young adventures one who spends his time with prostitutes. Then there is Iago the long
married who sees his wife as nothing more than a tool. Lastly Othello an older general who has only
recently wed a much younger bride who he adores almost too much. With these men, Shakespeare
shows how war can take from a man his ability to love.

What Makes Airline Save Money Or Maintenance Facilities...
In today s aviation there are many different ways that airlines, airports, or maintenance facilities cut
costs. Maintenance, repair and overhaul(MRO s) facilities might try and find a cheaper material from
overseas to manufacture their parts or they also enter into contracts with international companies to do
the manufacturing for them. Airports make almost half of their revenue from non aeronautical services
and products. Airlines save money by not serving olives in their salads. One of the first ways that
airlines save money is by fuel hedging. Southwest airlines paid $3.4 billion less in fuel costs between
1994 and 2001 doing just this. Fuel hedging is when an airline enters into contracts at the current fuel
price. If, the prices go ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ft Lauderdale is only a short distance from Miami and is not a big inconvenience for customers to
choose this site for their travels. After lights were over the aircrews were noting that most people did
not eat the olives that came in their inflight meals. When this was researched the company found out
that the caterers charged the airlines 60 cents for 4 ingredients and 80 cents for 5 ingredients and that
olive was the fifth ingredient in the salad. So, they decided to take the olive out of the equation and
ended up saving $40,000 a year. Other fuel savings include, Southwest airlines installing winglets,
which help to reduce drag and saving the company 54 million gallons of fuel per year. Or replacing
the 27lb seats with 9lb seats made of titanium, smaller magazines, thinner carpet, and food served in
cardboard boxes helped. Some international airlines only hire female stewardesses since they weigh
less than their male counterparts. Every 2lbs of weight shed saves $100 from an aircraft s annual fuel
bill. EasyJet uses a special paint that has miniscule bumps that help the aircraft cut through the air
more efficiently and burn less fuel (A.A.K., 2015).

Unconscious Mind In Frankenstein
The notion that human beings are motivated, even driven, by desires, fears, needs, and conflicts of
which they are unaware (Tyson 12). Life is driven by desires, fears, needs, and conflicts that are stored
in the unconscious. The unconscious is the control center of the mind, and it decides whether or not
certain memories can be tolerated. If the unconscious determines that a memory can t be handled, two
things can happen: repression of memories or modification of memories. Whereas memory is the
storage of events, perception is the live viewing of those events. Selective perception is hearing and
seeing only what we feel we can handle (Tyson 15). These tactics of the unconscious mind can be
found in Shelley s Frankenstein. Victor s unconscious mind alters or represses memories and
perceptions changing the way his mind functions, throughout the novel. While creating both monsters,
Victor s unconscious mind feels that he can t handle death; he is still not over the death of his mother.
His inability to move on from the death of his mother, is the reason for the creation of the monster.
Victor s traumatic experience with death cause him to selectively modify the consequences that come
from the creation of the monster. The traumatic experience with death is early on in the novel. In
chapter 3 Victor s mother Caroline dies of Scarlet Fever which she contracted from Elizabeth. This
experience changes Victor permanently, he becomes obsessed with bringing her back to life.

Interpretation Of King Lear
Arnold Kettle s interpretation of Shakespeare s King Lear and his misfortune, especially when looking
at Lear s reaction to the storm in Act 3, Scene 4. Renaissance.. Kettle s assertion of Lear s
development through experience and action are relevant when considering Act 3. 4. 6 23: the writer
uses Leer s dissolution and critical revaluation in the storm to promote the idea of literal engagement.
Throughout lines 1 9, Lear s rise begins when he physically faces a storm as a homeless person a
complete contrast of an image of a powerful king, promoting a platform upon which Lear s
reconstruction can begin. Interestingly enough, the storm s purpose serves to enlightenment Lear, in
order to force re evaluate about his current focus point. He has misplaced his priorities, which echoes
in the statement: But where the greater malady is fixed, The lesser is scarce felt. Lear admits to the
psychological weakness of trying to hold onto his pride through his daughters his distorted definition
of himself. We are once again ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tis a lie, I am not ague proof. Most importantly, Lear has come to terms with the fact that he is not a
god, an important distinction which Shakespeare uses to enable Lear to define his body. A humility
which negates the idea that he is some sort of divine being capable of manipulating the weather.
Therefore, Lear has learnt to separate himself from an unnatural and illogical society. This is done
when Lear s perception changes about the natural world which refuses to come to his rescue. This
influences Lear to disregard the fact that he is no way divine, enabling him to relate himself to those
which he perceived as lower. This idea is further expressed in Act 3. 4, 102 9. Now that he has learnt
his new reality through the storm, Lear is enabled to identify humans according to their most
fundamental characteristics. This is evident when the King accurately identifies the true nature of the

Gender Differences Within Social Development
This research paper is set to inform the reader of the gender differences through social development.
Depending on a child s gender, things such as gender identity and social acceptance have a great
impact in their development. The first thing parents learned about their children before birth is the sex
of the baby. This highlights the importance of sex and gender. Sex differences have long been a very
important topic in psychology and in understanding why gender differences affect social development.
Social learning theory helps to explain gender development.

Dashiell Hammett s The Maltese Falcon
Dashiell Hammett s The MAltese Falcon is a story led by a man but incomplete without the women
around him. The reader interacts with three women throughout the book, Effie Perrine, Miles Archer s
widow and Brigid O Shaughnessy. Each woman has their own individual relationship with the
protagonist, Sam Spade, however, each character is depicted with similarities. The broad setting of the
book is America in the 1930s, this is important because of the attitude towards women during the time
as well as the heavy patriarchal attitude that loomed over the era. The setting allows the reader to get a
grasp of why the similarities of these women are what they are and why the women were portrayed
the way they were. The author portrays all three women ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this scene, Sam notes that either him or her will fall for Miles s murder and he insists it ought to be

This meant that he wouldn t fall for her flirtatious ways the way he claims other men like Thursby
who ended up dead by helping her and this demonstrated his cynic mentality. Another key moment in
this scene is Brigid s question if Sam would be turning her in if the Falcon was not a fake (p.215).
Deeply exploring this scene reveals several characteristics of Sam. At this point, Brigid became
useless to him since she no longer obtained a pathway to the real falcon; therefore, no way to provide
him with money. Sam is more or less a dirty detective that has a interest in money and evidence of this
is his risky pursuit of the falcon. During the pursuit, Birgid was an asset and he risked raising
suspicion of himself as the killer of both Miles and Thursby numerous times. Yet, once she no longer
could help him he abandoned her the same way he abandoned

Significance Of The Globe Theatre
Elizabethan drama remains some of the most appreciated and world renowned to ever exist. Despite
its early foundation in the mid 16th century to early 17th century, plays from William Shakespeare,
Ben Jonson and Christopher Marlowe, almost five hundred years later are regularly produced and
performed to a modern audience. No dramatist, living or dead, has been more frequently reprinted or
performed, or translated into a greater variety of languages...Shakespeare in performance is now
reaching larger audiences than ever before in history . (S.Schoenbaum, 1979) One of the main reasons
for the longevity of Elizabethan theatrical success was the construction of The Globe Theatre in 1599.
With the construction of The Globe came notable improvements in special effects, costumes, makeup
and the size of audiences attending the performances.

The simplistic architecture throughout The Globe and its productions can be recognised as another
example of its lasting influence as this tradition remains within modern performances in the 1997
Globe and its own construction. Theatrical innovation was quite creative with regards to special
effects and sound. These were managed by using fireworks, drums, and even firing canons throughout
the dramas. When Shakespeare wrote plays, all the action took place on a small stage with little more
than a painted wall to suggest the setting. If a scene called for thunder, stagehands pounded a drum or
rippled sheet metal. If a scene required a ghost or a god, stagehands lowered him on a winch line or
sent him up through a trap door. A character wounded in a sword fight clapped a hand to his chest,
bursting a pouch beneath his shirt to release blood or a facsimile thereof . (Cummings,

The Analysis of Mozart s Dies Irae Essay

Theory III: MUSI 2311
Dr. Brian Bondari
December 13, 2010
The Analysis of Mozart s Dies Irae The final composition of Mozart, The Requiem mass in D Minor,
containing Dies Irae, is known to be one of his most powerful and commended works. This piece was
composed in 1791 while Mozart was, unfortunately, on his death bed. However, he was unable to
complete it so it was then passed on to his assistant and later finished by this man. The choral work
can be very dark, for it concerns the Day of Wrath, when God will return to this earth and pass
judgment on all creatures that remain, either granting them salvation or perpetual damnation to hell.
This theme alone provides one with fear, thus it can be assumed that even ... Show more content on

In two different cases, relatively close together in the music, he uses a secondary dominant to
embellish the regularity of the effect. However, in these two different cases, the chords shift slightly,
as shown in measures 52 and 55, pictured below. V/IV I V6/5/IV IV Despite the fact that the V/IV is
basically a I7 chord, theory students of modern teachings have been taught that the chord after the
slash mark of the secondary dominant is where the secondary dominant will lead to. So, creating a
simple I chord in the figure above might be seen as a little misleading. His is seen as more traditional
in the sense of good music theory practice, but regarding that it is Mozart s piece, it is safe to say that
both will work just fine. Mozart likes to add color to his compositions by also using Neapolitan
chords. He effectively uses them as both a passing function as well as a neighboring function. In the
example provided above, Mozart cleanly exercises the passing rule of the Neapolitan 6th chord. Refer
to Figure 2, measures 36 and 37: D Minor: V7 i i N6 ( in passing function) ◦7 Mozart clearly
integrates the Neapolitan chord correctly, in the practical theory sense, and also very well in the
application of the passing function. Although the

Causes Of Water Logging In Dhaka
WATER LOGGING PROBLEM AND DRAINAGE IN DHAKA
IN RECENT years Dhaka City has been facing extensive water logging, especially, during the
monsoon. Even without climate change, likely damage from waterlogging in Dhaka by 2050 is Taka
11,000 crore. In a changing climate with more intense rainfalls, the loss will be Taka 139,000 crores
between 2014 and 2050. These damages can be reduced significantly to Taka 3,700 crores, if Taka 270
crores investment is made. The amount Taka 270 crores is equivalent to only 0.35 percent of the
government s annual development budget expenditure for 2014 2015.(World Bank,2015).Problems
that occur in the city are increase in water pollution, traffic congestion, air and noise pollution, solid
waste disposal, black smoke etc. Inadequate drainage sections, conventional drainage system with low
capacity and gravity, natural siltation, absence of inlets and outlets, indefinite drainage outlets, lack of
proper maintenance of existing drainage system, and over and above disposal of solid waste into the
drains and drainage paths are accounted for the prime causes of blockage in drainage system and
water logging. During the last 25 years or so rapid uncontrolled urbanization has taken place in its
capital city Dhaka. Substantial increase in built up areas has taken place due to insensitive
developments of areas through private land developers and real estate business (Tawhid, 2004). The

Modern Social Norms In Shakespeare s Twelfth Night
Although written over four centuries ago, Shakespeare s play Twelfth Night successfully portrays
modern social norms. Still going on today, people feel the need to change who they are due to
opinions of others around them. The social aspects of the Renaissance still parallel those of the
present. The paranoia of people believing they need to be someone else has stayed constant throughout
the past five centuries because of society s influence on people. Using cultural and social criticism,
readers can see how in Shakespeare s Twelfth Night that people use deception to mask their identity
when they are in love, they are in need and they are insecure. The main idea behind the intricate love
combinations of Twelfth Night is that people change who they are to be with the ones they love. This
love story isn t similar to the usual Shakespearean play. Compare to the usual tragedy he writes,
Shakespeare changed the tone of this story to comedy. But the main difference of this play to others, is
the ending. Shakespeare finishes the story of in a happy ending where everyone gets what they want
without dying. According to Tan, The proper axis of desire is thus crisscrossed by improper ones. ...

Martin Luther Motivation
Martin Luther was a German theologian and religious reformer who is credited for sparking the
Protestant Reformation in the 16th century.
Martin Luther was born into a world dominated by the Catholic Church, which held spiritual and
political authority over all the nations of Europe. Martin Luther vowed to become a monk and devote
his life to the Church s promise of salvation [saving a soul from hell]. After Martin Luther entered the
monastery, Luther became doubtful that the Church could offer him salvation. During a visit to Rome,
the center of the Catholic Church, he found corruption and a lack of spirituality. Luther began to
realize that many of the things he believed about the Church were not true. As time progressed, he
encountered more examples of his growing doubts in the Church.
In 1516, Johann Tetzel, a Dominican friar and papal commissioner for indulgences, was sent to
Germany by the Roman Catholic Church to sell indulgences to raise money to rebuild St. Peter s
Basilica in Rome. Indulgences were pieces of paper issued by the Catholic Church that forgave sins so
one s soul could go to heaven instead of hell when they died. Indulgences implied that the rich could
buy their way into heaven while the poor could not if they were unable to pay for indulgences. Upon
hearing the news that Tetzel was preaching that people could be forgiven by paying for indulgences,
Luther was deeply troubled and irritated. In response to the sale of indulgences, on October 31, 1517,

Disney Theme Park Case Study
Disney displays an interesting effect on the global Asian market through their park based in Shanghai.
The Disney s theme park collects its revenue from four main areas, admission charges, merchandise

tourists and residents are the main customers to the park. Disneyland is in the business of theme parks.
As the main motivator for tourism trip and core factor of related products, theme parks are important
players in the tourism industry. In 1955, with his extraordinary creativity, Walt Disney established the
first theme park Disneyland in Los Angeles, California. Different entertaining activities were
combined to create a dramatic and fancy world, which attracted numerous tourists from all around the
world. An image was presented where attention was paid to cleanliness, visitor comfort and quality.
This was all reinforced by the famous Disney cartoons. (Kemperman 2000) With the success of

differences in economic distribution, culture development and consumer behavior, the development of

Av Node Analysis
The heart has distinguished components that allow the pathway of electrical conduction to travel
through the heart in order to effectively pump blood through the body. The electrical impulse initiates
in the Sinoatrial node (SA node), which is located in the posterior wall of the right atrium, near the
superior vena cava. It is also known as being the physiologic pacemaker of the heart and has an
intrinsic firing rate of 60 100 impulses/min. From the SA node, the electrical impulse flows directly to
the Atrioventricular node (AV node) with the guidance of intercalated discs and gap junctions. The AV
node is located in the back section of the interatrial septum near the coronary sinus and tricuspid
valve. Here, there is a delay of .1 seconds to allow the atria to contract and the ventricles to fill. In
addition, this delay regulates the ventricles if there were an abnormal atrial rhythm. The AV node
works as a secondary pacemaker if the SA is irregular, firing at 40 60 pulses/min. After leaving the AV
node, the electrical impulse travels to the bundle of His. The bundle of His forms the only myocardial
connection between the atria and ventricles. Additionally, the bundle of His divides the bundle
branches into left and right and innervates the ventricles through Purkinje fibers. ... Show more

Myocardial cells sustain their electrical gradient among their membrane, with the inside being slightly
more negative. The resting potential is regulated by channels and pumps distributed inside and outside
of the cell. As the cell depolarizes, the gate of the calcium channel opens, allowing calcium to enter
the cell. The calcium flowing into the cell simultaneously results in initiating the action potential. With
depolarization, the potassium channels then open, while the calcium channels close. Repolarization
occurs when potassium leaves the cells, and then the whole cycle begins

Gwendolyn Brooks centered her works predominately around the African American consciousness.
During the 1960 s when the poem was written, many teens especially young African American men
felt misunderstood and like the world was set up for them to fail. On the surface, it appears this poem
is a mere description of young adults that are misjudged. The deeper message of this poem addresses
the dangers of peer pressure, and its detrimental effects to self identity because of the disconnect
between society and youth of that time. Peer pressure can take place whenever people gather and
spend frequent time together. Most people are subject to its effects and often experience it because of
shared experiences or they share the same perspective on life. This becomes dangerous when a group
has enough influence to dictate an individual s way of thinking or behavior. When an individual is
desperate to find a place to belong, they will follow the crowd even if they know that they are
participating in something immoral; this is demonstrated in We Real Cool. As the poem begins, the
reader is introduced to the subjects of the poem, The Pool Players. Seven at the

Argumentative Essay On Beauty Pageants
In 1854 instead of judging woman or young girls on their looks, Phineas Taylor Barnum began
judging animals on their looks, this was the first beauty pageant. The first swimsuit competition was
held in 1880 at a festival to bring business however, it soon became a summer tradition . Women from
all around the world became interested in them, wanting to be seen as the perfect woman. Currently,
there are 3 different types of beauty pageants, a glitz pageant consists of the contestants wearing heavy
makeup, crystal decorated clothes and wearing slip on veneers. Another type of pageant is named a
semi glitz pageant which is very similar to the glitz pageant , except contestants are not allowed to
wear any hair pieces or slip on veneers. The third type of pageant is referred to as the natural pageant ,
contestants are permitted to wear natural makeup and will be disqualified if any hair piece or slip on
veneers are worn. Each of these different pageants are taken very seriously by its contestants with the
goal in mind of winning the crown. Many contestants will often make drastic or permanent changes,
forced by their guardian or parent(s) if they think they have a better chance of winning. Beauty
pageants exist only to judge girls based on their looks, which can be extremely damaging, both
physically and emotionally, therefore beauty pageants should be prohibited around the world to help
end the constant discrimination and unreal expectations of women and young girls.

Affluenza Case Study
My article was about a sixteen year old male who killed four people by choosing to drink and drive.
This teen was in court in twenty thirteen, and was pleading that he had affluenza, which caused the
accident. During this court process, he was given ten years probation, which means he can not drink
during his probation, and must check in with his officer. The Teen was found at a party drinking, so
because he had broken his ten year probation deal, he decided to flee. They attempted to look for his
mother and him, but he was nowhere to be found. The police officers looked in the family s million
dollar home, and no one was there. His court hearing was about him illegally driving on a restricted

Death By Scrabble Irony
There are three types of irony. Death by Scrabble is an ironic story by Charlie Fish. The characters in
this story are not named, but readers get to know the 42 years old man and his wife. Within the story,
you learn that the couple is uneasy in their relationship. The story Death by Scrabble shows verbal,
situational, and dramatic irony.
In the story Death by Scrabble uses verbal irony a lot. For instants when the man says If only I had a
D, then I could play MURDER. That would be a sign. That would be permission. He doesn t really
want her dead he just doesn t want to play scrabble. Or when he says The steam rising from her cup of
tea makes me feel hotter. I try to make murderous words with the letters on my rack, but the best I can
do is SLEEP. My wife sleeps all the time. She slept through an argument our next door neighbors had
that resulted in a broken door, a smashed TV and a Teletubby Lala doll with all the stuffing coming
out. And then she bitched at me for being moody the next day from lack of sleep. She doesn t sleep all
the time she just is a heavy sleeper. She clearly doesn t sleep all the time because she is playing
scrabble. The verbal irony leads to the situational irony. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

with surprise and vindication and the B that I was chewing on gets lodged in my throat. I try to cough.

builds to a climax. As a reader you would expect the wife to die but he ends up chocking on a scrabble
piece and dies. We would expect the wife to die because the man keeps wishing she were dead. The
dramatic irony plays off of the situational irony like the situational irony played off of the verbal

Incident Between The City Of Auburn, County Of King,...
This incident occurred in the City of Auburn, County of King, Washington;
On 10 21 2016 at about 1000 hrs I was in the south parking lot of Isaac Evans
Park at 30700 Green River RD SE, when I noticed an older silver Honda sedan,
WA/BBJ3053, reversed in to a parking shall. At the time, the vehicle had two people sitting in it, a
female in the passenger seat and a male in the driver seat. The vehicle was not running at the time. I
know from several previous contacts at the park that stolen vehicles are often dropped off in the
parking lot as it is away from any busy roads and out of sight from any buildings. At the time the
vehicle was the only one in the area.
I drove over and parked my fully marked patrol vehicle next to the Honda and walked over to the
driver s side of the vehicle. As I walked over the male started to exit the vehicle.
I walked over to the male and asked him what he was doing in the area and if he was willing to
provide his name. The male quickly stated that he had a DOC felony warrant for his arrest. I placed
the male in handcuffs, per my training, and advised him of his Miranda Rights. The male stated that he
did not have ID on him, but provided his name as Garrett Brown. I checked Brown, via radio, through
WACIC/NCIC/DOL and dispatch confirmed that he had a DOC Escape Community
Custody warrant for his arrest, #2714104794. Additionally, dispatch advised that he had an DV no

Reflective Assignment
Assignment Reflective Essay
The aim of this reflective essay is to evaluate my professional development whilst undertaking the role
of the Developing Intra Operative Practitioner/ Advanced Scrub Practitioner (ASP). Using a reflective
model I want to see how my new role affects me as an Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) and
any legal implications it has for me as an employee.
For this assignment I have decided to use the Gibbs (1988) date model of reflection and will base the
assignment on prevention of Surgical Site Infection (SSI) in relation to the operative procedure of a
total hip replacement. The Perioperative Care Collaborative (PCC) defines the ASP role as the role

My practical competencies have been obtained through working with a general and orthopaedic
surgeon. Whilst working with my clinical supervisor, (a consultant orthopaedic surgeon) we decided it
would be beneficial to review orthopaedic wound infections. I chose to concentrate on wound
infections during a Total Hip Replacement (THR). Wound infections is a massive subject so I have
selected specific areas to look at, which are: * Skin Preparations.
* Draping.
Surgical site infections (SSI) occur in 2 5% of clean non abdominal surgical procedures (Rothrock,
2007). Staphylococcus epidermidis is the most common cause for SSI in Orthopaedic surgery (NICE,
2008). Guidelines were produced by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE)
to try and reduce this infection rate and include a preoperative phase, (including hair removal and
antibiotic prophylaxis), an intra operative phase and postoperative phase.
The majority of SSIs become apparent within 30 days of an operative procedure and most often
between the 5th and 10th postoperative days. However, where a prosthetic implant is used, SSI
affecting the deeper tissues may occur many years after the initial operation.
SSI are measured by definitions from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) or the
Surgical Site Infection Surveillance Service, other valid measures based on clinical signs and

Cash Flow Statement
Cash Flow Statement:
A cash flow statement is a financial report with information on the sources of a firm s cash and how it
was spent within a given period of time. In contrast to other financial reports, a cash flow statement
does not present information on non cash items like depreciation. As a result, the cash flow statement
is beneficial in analyzing the temporary feasibility of a company, especially its capability to pay bills.
Many analysts recommend entrepreneurs to study a cash flow statement quarterly because of its
importance for small and large businesses.
Since a cash flow statement classifies cash receipts and payments based on operations, investments,
and financing activities, it s categorized into these three functional sections within the business.
Therefore, the major parts of the cash flow statement are cash related operations, investments,
financing, and net increase or decrease in cash. While cash from operations is cash generated from a
firm s daily operations, the investing cash is generated from assets investments. On the other hand,
financing cash is paid or received from the issued or borrowed funds whereas net increase or decrease
in cash is from annual rise or reduction in cash. It s important to note that regardless of the slight
differences in cash flow statements, they all present financial information in all the four categories (
Cash Flow Statement , n.d.).
One of the major advantages of a cash flow statement is that it provides

Dissecting Clarke s Cosmological Argument
Dissecting Clarke s Cosmological Argument
In the following paper, I will outline Samuel Clarke s Modern Formulation of the Cosmological
Argument and restate some of the points that he makes. Samuel Clarke s argument for the existence of
God states that There has existed from eternity some one unchangeable and independent being (37).
The argument follows a logical flow and can be better understood when the structure is laid out and
the argument reconstructed.
Clarke begins his argument with a use of disjunctive syllogism, a form of valid logical reasoning that
proposes two outcomes, denies one, and thus proves the other to be true. Clarke s premise states that
one of the two following statements must be true: either there has ... Show more content on

He states that since the series of dependent beings couldn t be caused by any external or internal
source, that it would have to be cause absolutely by nothing . He then states that this is a contradiction
to be done in time; and because duration in this case makes no difference. He also states that it is a
contradiction to suppose it done from eternity. Since the universe has parts that come into existence at
one occasion and not another, it must have a cause. There could supposedly be an infinite regress of
causes if there was evidence for such, but lacking such evidence, God must exist as the cause. Clarke
does not specifically identify God at any point in his argument. He ends with There must be on the
contrary, of necessity have existed from eternity, some one immutable and independent Being (37).
Whatever one chooses to call this Being , it is the one unchangeable and independent being that
Clarke attempts to prove the existence of in his argument.

I Am A White, Natural Born Citizen Of The United States
Ethnic Heritage Term Paper I am a white, natural born citizen of the United States, but my family is
made up of a mix of immigrants. My paternal grandmother immigrated to the United States from Sao
Miguel, Portugal. My paternal grandfather s ancestors immigrated from England and Scotland to
Canada. Some of my mother s paternal ancestors immigrated from Spain to France before immigrating
to Canada, and others were Aboriginal Canadians. Three out of my four grandparents have roots in
Quebec, Canada. French Canadian is not a nationality that I identify with, but it is the culture that has
impacted my life the most, outside of American culture.
Out of my six Quebecois great grandparents only my maternal great grandmother is known to be of an
aboriginal background. All of my other great grandparents immigrated to or colonized Canada. There
is little known about my great grandmother s history, except that she moved to North Adams,
Massachusetts from Quebec and married my great grandfather in her early teens.
The first nations of Canada, prior to the landing of Europeans, were divided into six major
geographical groups. My great grandmother s ancestors most likely belonged to the Iroquoian first
nations. The Iroquois people were not nomadic and had a complex system of democratic government.
They are known for the impressive construction of longhouses and their system of farming corn,
beans, and squash. Running was the most popular form of transportation to the Iroquois people

The Trade Policies Around The World
The trade policies around the world are different depending on which country a person lives in. There
are many different regulations because there are so many different foreign policies. If a person wants
to be successful in doing business globally, then they would have to abide by the country they are
interested in doing business with, standards of how to do business. It would be disrespectful to try to
do business with another country and not know any of their customs or beliefs, because what you are
bringing to the table could be offensive to them which could leave you empty handed if one does not
operate right under the business standards of the foreign company. Even though it behooves a business
person to abide by another country s foreign trade policy some of the other country s policies may be
offensive to the investor. The best thing to focus on when doing business with another country is to
come to an equal understanding on point of views, they may have to agree to disagree on some things
but, the most important thing to remember is to try to make money with other countries to extend your
business to new heights. When an investor set point of views to the side and focus on the matter at
hand, and that is to make money, then they will be more comfortable abiding by another county s way
of doing business. The trade policy I am going to write about is the trade policy in China. Present day
Chinese culture is a combination of the old world

Comparison Of Apple s IOS And Android OS
Comparison of Apple s IOS and Android OS Nowadays, smartphones have been an irreplaceable and
indispensable part of people s daily life. What makes the smartphones so smart is the OS, in other
words, the operation system. The OS is the basic and soul of a smartphone, which means if the phone
is the body, then the OS is the neural network and intellectual system to control the body. Among
diverse operation systems, Apple s IOS and Android OS are the most outstanding, they have occupied
about 96 percent of the whole global smartphone market together. They are both widely used and liked
by individuals but they also have own advantages and disadvantages. The first difference is in
Customizability. Accessing and completing control over the devices is available the bootloader can
also be unlocked by Android users while that is not available for IOS users. Users of IOS are highly
limited to customize it unless jailbreak, but after jailbreak, the Apple Company will be no longer and
no need to keep its promise on the products because jailbreak is banned by the official. The OS of
Android is totally different, users can change almost everything if they want to. This difference comes
from the different source model, which is closed, with open source component in IOS and open in
Android. The iOS kernel is not an open source but is based on the open source Darwin OS while the
Kernel, UI, and some standard apps of Android are all open source. As a result, Android can be more

Building Social Business By Muhammad Yunus

Building Social Business is a book about social enterprise written by Muhammad Yunus. Muhammad
Yunus is a social entrepreneur, economist, banker, and civil servant leader from Bangladesh. He is

also explains how the social business model could redeem the failed promise of the free enterprise

III. Reflection
After reading the first two chapters of Building Social Business, I was moved. I was inspired. Yunus
opened my eyes to another side of business which in his words was selfless. And indeed it was
selfless. Social business is truly selfless because it focuses on helping others and earning profit comes
second. By reading this book and reflecting, I realized it is better to be part of the solution than be part
of the problem. By looking at my community, at my environment, and at my experiences in life, there
are problems that will need solutions and I firmly believe that having a social business is the solution.
By my observation, slow public utilities, expensive medicine, and empowering marginalized sectors
are problems that can be solved by putting up social businesses. By combining entrepreneurial
mindset and experience, social awareness, and creativity, the ideal social business can be done. But
what makes a social business truly a social business is the

Why Contraception And Not Only Natural Family Planning...
Thesis: I will discuss why contraception and not only Natural Family Planning should be allowed by
the Catholic Church because it helps prevents sexually transmitted infections and diseases and
prevents millions of unwanted children from being born and then abandoned every year. Different
forms of contraception have existed for hundreds of years, dating back to the Roman Empire. It was
not until the 1950 s that a progesterone pill, synthesized from wild yams was created which could
block ovulation (Gibson). In 1960, the United States Food and Drug Administration approved Enovid,
an oral contraceptive pill (Gibson). The creation of this pill marked the biggest change in how
contraceptive was viewed and its potential in American history. Even though other forms of
contraception existed, those were more directed for male use only. This was one of the few methods
that females could take and that actually worked. By 1965, almost 6.5 million women in America were
on this method of contraceptive, which is most commonly known as the pill. At the time, state laws
prohibited the use of contraceptives until 1965 when the Supreme Court unbanned these laws. The
Catholic Church began to weight into this phenomenon and after the Supreme Court allowed the use
of this method as safe and effective for couples, everyone thought the Church would accept it and
allow individuals to make the decision about contraceptive for themselves. Unfortunately, in 1968
Paul IV released Humanae Vitae. In this

Current Account Sustainability
Does a current account deficit matter?
Yun Shik Park
Abstract: Sometimes a country will export their goods to another country, rather than importing them
and it causes current account deficits. The purpose of this paper is to examine the role of current
account in national economic development. As the world becomes more interdependent and
globalized, we cannot ignore the importance of a country s income and expenditure records the current
account. The current account is the point at which international economics collide with political
reality. When countries hold large deficits, businesses, trade unions, politicians, and countries are
often quick to blame their opponents and make changes regarding unfair practices.
Some economists argue that A large current account deficit is not a cause of concern if the fiscal
accounted are balanced, Lawson s Doctrine. Therefore, we don t need to worry about the current
account. However, the paper researched this matter for a more in depth understanding of the economic
concept of current account deficits.

James Garfield was a Union army general who fought in the Battles of Middle Creek, Shiloh, and
Chickamauga, and would later become the President of the United States for 200 days. He was a self
made man who was an important contributor in the Civil War due to his bravery, leadership skills, and
appropriate radicalism. James Garfield was born on November 19, 1831, in Orange, Ohio, in a log
cabin. His father died only two years after his birth, so his mother raised him along with his older
siblings while still managing the family farm. During his teen years, he towed barges up the Ohio

radical colleagues, supporting moderation towards defeated Confederates. He had become an expert
on financial matters by serving in various key committees. He opposed any effort to inflate money
supplies.
James Garfield, overall, had a big impact on the Civil War. He was known for his bravery during the
Battle of Middle Creek and the Battle of Chickamauga. He is responsible for multiple Union victories
and gained control of many patches of Confederate soil. Without Garfield, the war may have been
more depressing for the Union, and may have ended much slower than it did.
After the war, Garfield was in the running for president. In 1880, Garfield defeated General Winfield
Scott Hancock by about 10,000 votes. Garfield s short time as president was mostly spent in
organization of his cabinet and political maneuvers. On July 2, 1881, an angry attorney who was

Separation of Powers Essay

Separation of Powers essay
American National Government 6
Professor: Aimellia Siemson
The concept of separation of governmental powers is an essential principle to our democracy. The
Separation of Powers devised by the framers of the Constitution was designed to do one primary
thing: to prevent the majority from ruling with an iron fist, so the framers shied away from giving any
branch of the new government too much power. There were three branches created within the
Constitution the Legislature, Executive, and Judicial, each of which have a distinct function and fine
lines separating them. (1)
The Legislative Branch is composed of the House and Senate, The Executive, is composed of the
President, Vice President, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(3) The executive branch makes sure people follow the laws that the legislative branch makes. The
leaders of this branch are the President and Vice President. When making important decisions, the
President often asks for advice from a group of 15 helpers, known as the Cabinet. When people are
unsure about the meaning of a law, the judicial branch listens to many opinions and makes a decision.
The judicial branch is made up of courts and the highest of these courts is the U.S. Supreme Court and
is made up of 9 judges. Courts decide arguments about the meaning of laws, how they are applied, and
whether they break the rules of the Constitution. (2) Of the more than 7,500 cases that are sent to the
Supreme Court each year, only about 80 to 100 cases are actually accepted. (3)
The doctrine of Separation of Powers was adopted by the convention of 1787, in the words of Justice
Louis D. Brandeis, not to promote efficiency but to preclude the exercise of arbitrary power. The
purpose was not to avoid friction, but, by means of the inevitable friction incident to the distribution of
the governmental powers among three departments, to save the people from autocracy. (1)

Rhetorical Analysis Pearl Harbor Speech
Rhetorical Analysis of President Roosevelt s Pearl Harbor Speech
Yesterday, December 7th, 1941 began President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the day following Japan s
fateful attack on Pearl Harbor, resulting in the in the tragic loss of nearly two and a half thousand
American lives. A date so famously proclaimed to forever live in infamy, and so it has. This inspiring
speech to Congress and the American people employed appeals and other techniques in it s mission to
touch America s heart, both with sympathy and indignation. President Roosevelt s use of rhetoric is
extremely effective in rallying the American people to the cause of entering a war so many were
reluctant to support.
By December of 1941, the second World War had been raging across Europe for more than two years
and the United States was already, but not officially, involved. Deteriorating conditions in Europe and
continual advancement of Nazi victory across nations was certainly cause for global concern, though
many Americans were still clinging to anti war neutrality. However, America had already proved to be
less than neutral, aiding Great Britain with weapons and the lend lease act, clearly siding with the
Allied powers. But official involvement without support of public opinion was rather tricky. So you
could say that, for many European nations, this tragedy might have been cause for celebration, as it
was bringing the battle right to America s back doorstep, and could no longer be ignored. With an
overwhelming public majority opposed to involvement in European conflict, it should have come as
no surprise that Roosevelt would use this as an opportunity to rally Americans in a war against Japan,
and ultimately Germany and the other Axis powers.
As not only President but Commander in Chief, Roosevelt had an obvious ethical appeal to the general
public, and his advice concerning war involvement and interpretation of this event will forever depict
most American s view of the attack. Seeing as ethics aren t in question here, it was not necessary for
Roosevelt to spend much time proving himself trustworthy. However, he does show strength and
courage in the midst of in a time of fear and dismay. He also plays on the values of Americans by

Tetanus Is An Infection Caused By Clostridium Tetani Bacteria
Tetanus

November 22, 2016
Tetanus Tetanus is an infection caused by the Clostridium tetani bacteria, also written C. tetani. The C.
tatani bacterium is gram positive and shaped like a slender rod, once it has developed a terminal spore
it may resemble a drumstick (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC], 2015). The actual
bacteria are heat sensitive and cannot survive when there is oxygen present, the spores on the other
hand are very heat resistant and can survive the presence of oxygen (CDC, 2015). Cases of tetanus
continue to shrink in the United States and other developed countries thanks to the availability of the
tetanus vaccination; however, in underdeveloped countries tetanus is still a major problem. Tetanus
presents with various visible signs and symptoms which may vary based on the type of tetanus. The
type of tetanus will also determine the methods used to treat the infection.
Epidemiology
Tetanus can occur anywhere in the world. You will find occurrences of this infection more frequently
in hot, damp climates with highly populated areas (CDC, 2015). The spores of the C. tetani bacterium
are found in unassuming locations such as the soil in your garden, especially if treated with animal
manure, as well as the intestines and feces of many animals, such as your favorite cat or guinea pig
(CDC, 2015). The normal mode of transmission is

Essay Lost Colony of Roanoke
For centuries, the Lost Colony of Roanoke Island has been a controversial issue. Many theories exist
that explain the disappearance of the colony. Some theories suggest that the colonists left the island to
live with friendly neighboring Indians. Others suggest that a hurricane wiped out the colony or that a
savage Indian tribe massacred them. The possibility of disease destroying them is also a debated topic.
However, evidence indicates that the men and women left behind on Roanoke Island did not die
because of massacre, disease, or starvation but went to live with the Croatoan Indians. In 1587 a group
of men, women, and children led by Sir John White set sail for America and landed on a North
Carolina island called Roanoke (Shirley ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, physical proof indicates that after John White left the colony to return to England, the
colonists intermarried with the Indians. According to David Beers Quinn, author of Set Fair for
Roanoke, the colonists and the Indians did intermarry (350). The colonists intermarrying with the
Indians would cause some of the offspring to have genetic traits unusual for Indians, such as blue eyes
or light colored hair. In his article about the lost colony, Scott Dawson writes that an explorer named
John Lawson discovered blue eyed Indians dressed in English apparel; Dawson also says that the
Indians claimed to have White descendants (6). Therefore, by making Manteo lord of Roanoke and
intermarrying with the Indians, the colonists proved their strong relationship with the Croatoans.
Upon his return, John White met with no indications of the deaths of the colonists. Linda Kramer
states that John White and the colonists agreed that in the event of leaving Roanoke, the colonists in a
noticeable location would engrave the name of the place to which they were departing and that an
engraving of a Maltese cross above the name of the location would signal leaving because of danger
(3). When White returned to the colony after three years of being absent, he discovered one of the
signals the colonists promised to engrave if they left. The Article Lost: An American Colony describes

  • 2. Graphic Design Of A Graphic Designer Essay Graphic design is everywhere; it is a way of communicating through the use of type, space and image. Graphic designers use numerous methods to create and combine words, symbols, and images, which creates a visual representation of ideas and messages. A graphic designer may use a combination of typography, visual arts and page layout techniques to produce a final result. William Morris and Joost Schmidt have both used these techniques to produce astonishing pieces of graphic design, which are going to be compared and contrasted throughout this essay. The 1923 legendary typographer and graphic designer Joost Schmidt in Weimar, Germany created Bauhaus Exhibition Poster. The other piece of design I have decided to analyse is a two page spread of the edition of works of Geoffrey Chaucer. This was the Kelmscott press finest achievement; it was designed by William Morris and illustrated by his friend Burne Jones. This was the most beautiful book of its day; it serves as a tribute to Chaucer and to Morris himself. (Meggs, P., Purvis, A. 2006). These design outcomes came from two very contrasting movements. The Arts and craft Movement and the Bauhaus movement. The Arts and Crafts Movement was an international design movement that thrived between 1800 and 1910. The main influence was writer and designer William Morris. William Morris was one of the most influential designers of the Arts and crafts movement. Coming of Age in Mississippi vs. The Jungle Paper Coming of Age in Mississippi vs. The Jungle Paper There is an argument that states that Anne Moody s tale in Coming of Age in Mississippi is a more optimistic tale then that of Jurgis Rutkis in The Jungle and vice versa. Life is driven by desires, fears, needs, and conflicts that are stored in the unconscious. The unconscious is the control center of the mind, and it decides whether or not certain memories can be tolerated. If the unconscious determines that a memory can t be handled, two things can happen: repression of memories or modification of memories. Whereas memory is the storage of events, perception is the live viewing of those events. Selective perception is hearing and seeing only what we feel we can handle (Tyson 15). These tactics of the unconscious mind can be found in Shelley s Frankenstein. Victor s unconscious mind alters or represses memories and perceptions changing the way his mind functions, throughout the novel. While creating both monsters, Victor s unconscious mind feels that he can t handle death; he is still not over the death of his mother. After Martin Luther entered the monastery, Luther became doubtful that the Church could offer him salvation. During a visit to Rome, the center of the Catholic Church, he found corruption and a lack of spirituality. Luther began to realize that many of the things he believed about the Church were not true. In 1516, Johann Tetzel, a Dominican friar and papal commissioner for indulgences, was sent to Germany by the Roman Catholic Church to sell indulgences to raise money to rebuild St. Peter s Basilica in Rome. Indulgences were pieces of paper issued by the Catholic Church that forgave sins so one s soul could go to heaven instead of hell when they died. • 19. Av Node Analysis The heart has distinguished components that allow the pathway of electrical conduction to travel through the heart in order to effectively pump blood through the body. The electrical impulse initiates in the Sinoatrial node (SA node), which is located in the posterior wall of the right atrium, near the superior vena cava. It is also known as being the physiologic pacemaker of the heart and has an intrinsic firing rate of 60 100 impulses/min. From the SA node, the electrical impulse flows directly to the Atrioventricular node (AV node) with the guidance of intercalated discs and gap junctions. The AV node is located in the back section of the interatrial septum near the coronary sinus and tricuspid valve. Here, there is a delay of .1 seconds to allow the atria to contract and the ventricles to fill. In addition, this delay regulates the ventricles if there were an abnormal atrial rhythm. The AV node works as a secondary pacemaker if the SA is irregular, firing at 40 60 pulses/min. After leaving the AV node, the electrical impulse travels to the bundle of His. The bundle of His forms the only myocardial connection between the atria and ventricles. Additionally, the bundle of His divides the bundle branches into left and right and innervates the ventricles through Purkinje fibers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This poem is a formal verse ballad which uses simple sentences that create a steady meter giving the poem a catchy jazz like quality. Although the poem is short, it packs a powerful message about youth. Gwendolyn Brooks centered her works predominately around the African American consciousness. During the 1960 s when the poem was written, many teens especially young African American men felt misunderstood and like the world was set up for them to fail. On the surface, it appears this poem is a mere description of young adults that are misjudged. The deeper message of this poem addresses the dangers of peer pressure, and its detrimental effects to self identity because of the disconnect between society and youth of that time. Peer pressure can take place whenever people gather and spend frequent time together. Most people are subject to its effects and often experience it because of shared experiences or they share the same perspective on life. This becomes dangerous when a group has enough influence to dictate an individual s way of thinking or behavior. When an individual is desperate to find a place to belong, they will follow the crowd even if they know that they are participating in something immoral; this is demonstrated in We Real Cool. The story Death by Scrabble shows verbal, situational, and dramatic irony. In the story Death by Scrabble uses verbal irony a lot. For instants when the man says If only I had a D, then I could play MURDER. That would be a sign. That would be permission. He doesn t really want her dead he just doesn t want to play scrabble. Or when he says The steam rising from her cup of tea makes me feel hotter. I try to make murderous words with the letters on my rack, but the best I can do is SLEEP. My wife sleeps all the time. She slept through an argument our next door neighbors had that resulted in a broken door, a smashed TV and a Teletubby Lala doll with all the stuffing coming out. And then she bitched at me for being moody the next day from lack of sleep. She doesn t sleep all the time she just is a heavy sleeper. At the time, the vehicle had two people sitting in it, a female in the passenger seat and a male in the driver seat. The vehicle was not running at the time. I know from several previous contacts at the park that stolen vehicles are often dropped off in the parking lot as it is away from any busy roads and out of sight from any buildings. At the time the vehicle was the only one in the area. I drove over and parked my fully marked patrol vehicle next to the Honda and walked over to the driver s side of the vehicle. As I walked over the male started to exit the vehicle. I walked over to the male and asked him what he was doing in the area and if he was willing to provide his name. The male quickly stated that he had a DOC felony warrant for his arrest. I placed the male in handcuffs, per my training, and advised him of his Miranda Rights. The male stated that he did not have ID on him, but provided his name as Garrett Brown. • 28. Cash Flow Statement Cash Flow Statement: A cash flow statement is a financial report with information on the sources of a firm s cash and how it was spent within a given period of time. In contrast to other financial reports, a cash flow statement does not present information on non cash items like depreciation. As a result, the cash flow statement is beneficial in analyzing the temporary feasibility of a company, especially its capability to pay bills. Many analysts recommend entrepreneurs to study a cash flow statement quarterly because of its importance for small and large businesses. Since a cash flow statement classifies cash receipts and payments based on operations, investments, and financing activities, it s categorized into these three functional sections within the business. Therefore, the major parts of the cash flow statement are cash related operations, investments, financing, and net increase or decrease in cash. While cash from operations is cash generated from a firm s daily operations, the investing cash is generated from assets investments. On the other hand, financing cash is paid or received from the issued or borrowed funds whereas net increase or decrease in cash is from annual rise or reduction in cash. Dissecting Clarke s Cosmological Argument Dissecting Clarke s Cosmological Argument In the following paper, I will outline Samuel Clarke s Modern Formulation of the Cosmological Argument and restate some of the points that he makes. Samuel Clarke s argument for the existence of God states that There has existed from eternity some one unchangeable and independent being (37). The argument follows a logical flow and can be better understood when the structure is laid out and the argument reconstructed. Clarke begins his argument with a use of disjunctive syllogism, a form of valid logical reasoning that proposes two outcomes, denies one, and thus proves the other to be true. Clarke s premise states that one of the two following statements must be true: either there has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He states that since the series of dependent beings couldn t be caused by any external or internal source, that it would have to be cause absolutely by nothing . He then states that this is a contradiction to be done in time; and because duration in this case makes no difference. He also states that it is a contradiction to suppose it done from eternity. Since the universe has parts that come into existence at one occasion and not another, it must have a cause. There could supposedly be an infinite regress of causes if there was evidence for such, but lacking such evidence, God must exist as the cause. Clarke does not specifically identify God at any point in his argument. He ends with There must be on the contrary, of necessity have existed from eternity, some one immutable and independent Being (37). If a person wants to be successful in doing business globally, then they would have to abide by the country they are interested in doing business with, standards of how to do business. It would be disrespectful to try to do business with another country and not know any of their customs or beliefs, because what you are bringing to the table could be offensive to them which could leave you empty handed if one does not operate right under the business standards of the foreign company. Even though it behooves a business person to abide by another country s foreign trade policy some of the other country s policies may be offensive to the investor. The best thing to focus on when doing business with another country is to come to an equal understanding on point of views, they may have to agree to disagree on some things but, the most important thing to remember is to try to make money with other countries to extend your business to new heights. When an investor set point of views to the side and focus on the matter at hand, and that is to make money, then they will be more comfortable abiding by another county s way of doing business. Different forms of contraception have existed for hundreds of years, dating back to the Roman Empire. It was not until the 1950 s that a progesterone pill, synthesized from wild yams was created which could block ovulation (Gibson). In 1960, the United States Food and Drug Administration approved Enovid, an oral contraceptive pill (Gibson). The creation of this pill marked the biggest change in how contraceptive was viewed and its potential in American history. Even though other forms of contraception existed, those were more directed for male use only. This was one of the few methods that females could take and that actually worked. By 1965, almost 6.5 million women in America were on this method of contraceptive, which is most commonly known as the pill. At the time, state laws prohibited the use of contraceptives until 1965 when the Supreme Court unbanned these laws. The Catholic Church began to weight into this phenomenon and after the Supreme Court allowed the use of this method as safe and effective for couples, everyone thought the Church would accept it and allow individuals to make the decision about contraceptive for themselves. The Separation of Powers devised by the framers of the Constitution was designed to do one primary thing: to prevent the majority from ruling with an iron fist, so the framers shied away from giving any branch of the new government too much power. Rhetorical Analysis Pearl Harbor Speech Rhetorical Analysis of President Roosevelt s Pearl Harbor Speech Yesterday, December 7th, 1941 began President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the day following Japan s fateful attack on Pearl Harbor, resulting in the in the tragic loss of nearly two and a half thousand American lives. A date so famously proclaimed to forever live in infamy, and so it has. This inspiring speech to Congress and the American people employed appeals and other techniques in it s mission to touch America s heart, both with sympathy and indignation. President Roosevelt s use of rhetoric is extremely effective in rallying the American people to the cause of entering a war so many were reluctant to support. By December of 1941, the second World War had been raging across Europe for more than two years and the United States was already, but not officially, involved. Deteriorating conditions in Europe and continual advancement of Nazi victory across nations was certainly cause for global concern, though many Americans were still clinging to anti war neutrality. However, America had already proved to be less than neutral, aiding Great Britain with weapons and the lend lease act, clearly siding with the Allied powers. But official involvement without support of public opinion was rather tricky. So you could say that, for many European nations, this tragedy might have been cause for celebration, as it was bringing the battle right to America s back doorstep, and could no longer be ignored. With an overwhelming public majority opposed to involvement in European conflict, it should have come as no surprise that Roosevelt would use this as an opportunity to rally Americans in a war against Japan, and ultimately Germany and the other Axis powers. As not only President but Commander in Chief, Roosevelt had an obvious ethical appeal to the general public, and his advice concerning war involvement and interpretation of this event will forever depict most American s view of the attack. Seeing as ethics aren t in question here, it was not necessary for Roosevelt to spend much time proving himself trustworthy. • 45. Essay Lost Colony of Roanoke For centuries, the Lost Colony of Roanoke Island has been a controversial issue. Many theories exist that explain the disappearance of the colony. Some theories suggest that the colonists left the island to live with friendly neighboring Indians. Others suggest that a hurricane wiped out the colony or that a savage Indian tribe massacred them. The possibility of disease destroying them is also a debated topic. However, evidence indicates that the men and women left behind on Roanoke Island did not die because of massacre, disease, or starvation but went to live with the Croatoan Indians. In 1587 a group of men, women, and children led by Sir John White set sail for America and landed on a North Carolina island called Roanoke (Shirley ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Furthermore, physical proof indicates that after John White left the colony to return to England, the colonists intermarried with the Indians. According to David Beers Quinn, author of Set Fair for Roanoke, the colonists and the Indians did intermarry (350). The colonists intermarrying with the Indians would cause some of the offspring to have genetic traits unusual for Indians, such as blue eyes or light colored hair. In his article about the lost colony, Scott Dawson writes that an explorer named John Lawson discovered blue eyed Indians dressed in English apparel; Dawson also says that the Indians claimed to have White descendants (6). Therefore, by making Manteo lord of Roanoke and intermarrying with the Indians, the colonists proved their strong relationship with the Croatoans. Upon his return, John White met with no indications of the deaths of the colonists. Linda Kramer states that John White and the colonists agreed that in the event of leaving Roanoke, the colonists in a noticeable location would engrave the name of the place to which they were departing and that an engraving of a Maltese cross above the name of the location would signal leaving because of danger (3). When White returned to the colony after three years of being absent, he discovered one of the signals the colonists promised to engrave if they left.
