Color Purple Essay
Crafting an essay on the topic of "Color Purple" can be both challenging and rewarding. The
complexity arises from the multifaceted nature of the subject matter. "Color Purple" is a novel by
Alice Walker that delves into profound themes such as racism, sexism, and the struggle for
identity and empowerment.
To begin with, understanding the intricate layers of the narrative, characters, and symbolism
within the novel requires a comprehensive analysis. The author skillfully weaves a tapestry of
emotions, experiences, and societal issues that demand careful examination. It is essential to
navigate the characters' journeys, decipher their motivations, and unravel the impact of societal
norms on their lives.
Furthermore, delving into the historical and cultural context of the novel is crucial. Walker's work
is deeply rooted in the African-American experience, particularly during the early 20th century.
Addressing the socio-political climate and the challenges faced by the characters adds another
layer of complexity to the essay.
Crafting a coherent and insightful thesis statement is another hurdle. The chosen topic must
encapsulate the essence of the novel while providing a unique perspective that contributes to the
broader discourse on "Color Purple." This requires a nuanced understanding of the literary
elements employed by Walker and the ability to articulate their significance.
The essay must also incorporate critical analysis, drawing from literary criticism and scholarly
perspectives. Engaging with various interpretations of the novel adds depth to the discussion and
demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter.
Moreover, ensuring clarity and coherence in the essay's structure is imperative. Organizing
thoughts, arguments, and evidence in a logical sequence is essential for conveying a persuasive
narrative. Striking a balance between personal reflection and academic analysis is another aspect
that requires careful consideration.
In conclusion, writing an essay on "Color Purple" demands not only literary acumen but also a
keen awareness of historical and cultural contexts. Navigating through the complexities of the
novel while offering fresh insights is a formidable task. However, the intellectual growth and
understanding gained from such an endeavor make the effort worthwhile.

Influence of Cultures on The Thousand and One Nights
Essay...
Stories like Sindbad, Aladdin and the Magic Lamp and other popular stories are
very common today in the western culture. Animated movies were also made for the
entertainment of kids on these popular stories. One might wonder that where these
stories originated and how it came down and made place in the western culture.
Although these stories are very popular in both the western culture and the eastern
culture but the original literary work is not so popular in common people. Theses
stories are some of the stories from the Arabic work The Thousand and One Nights.

The same is claimed by Goitein as he says that the first element in the tile of

Persian hezar efsane, which means В‘A Thousand Stories, according to various
Muslim writers the name of a pre Islamic collection of tales and fables. (301 02) W.

where it is said to be based on a Persian work. (112 24) All of these authors date

these reviewers.

How Does Australia s Location Affect Trade
Australia s trading links with other countries, specifically the Asia Pacific region, has
led to its advancing development in the modern world. Australia has always had
strong trading links with the world and relies heavily on imports and exports.
Australia Imports products such as petroleum and cars from other countries primarily
China, The United States and Japan.
As well as importing goods, Australia also exports massive amounts of iron ore, coal
and gold. Australia exports $54.4 billion AUD worth of iron to other countries. This
report will discuss; locations of trade and how Australia s location affects trade,

Reduced trading costs with cooperation countries, better communication through
trade, larger competition for similar companies, more choices for consumers, and a
greater sense of global community.
Cultural Benefits:
All Asia Pacific economies are benefited with eh APEC trade agreement not only
economically but also culturally. Tourism and business trips to Australia make
cultural contributions to our country. Being a multicultural country, Australia has
always welcomed Asia Pacific nations for business or tourism. An example of this is
when Australia hosted the annual APEC meeting.
Geopolitical Benefits:
Australia s trading links with the Asia Pacific Region holds geopolitical influences
with other countries in the Asia Pacific. By being a founding member of the Asia
Pacific Economic Cooperation, Australia has set the standards for trading
agreements. For example; China and Hong Kong decided to join APEC two years
after its foundation after seeing the success and future potential. Many countries like
India, Pakistan, Cambodia, Columbia and Mongolia have pledged their interest in
joining and sharing in APEC s
Analysis Of The Film The Social Network
Essay 4: The Social Network Critique
The film that we watched in class is called The Social Network. Directed by David
Fincher and released in 2010, it is an informative film which attempts to shed light
on the real story behind the creation and rise of Facebook, starting from the
beginning and revealing all the possibly hidden or not as well known facts behind it.
Though some of the movie may be Hollywoodized and exaggerated for a dramatic
depiction, with exceptional acting and a compelling story, it does a fantastic job of
informing viewers all about Facebook while still engrossing them in the story and
captivating their interest.
The movie opens up on a scene when Mark Zuckerberg, played by Jesse Eisenberg, is
dumped by his girlfriend Erica Albright after an argument. From this moment, a
long chain of events is set into motion that ultimately lead to the success of one of
the most prominent and influential social media sites in internet and
communication history. After Mark is dumped, he is humiliated and set on
obtaining revenge. From his anger, he, along with his only real friend Eduardo
Saverin, who is played by Andrew Garfield, work to create a website that will
serve as payback for his girlfriend breaking up with him. Created on October 28,
2003, the site that they create is called Facemash, which is the very first version of
Facebook. Originally made to be a site for comparing photos, the site used pictures
stolen from the school database that were plugged into

important information about the norms and cultural views. While the children

Chinese roots. It shows that as the younger generations, integrate into the American

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Ordinary Portland
Cement
General
Ordinary Portland cement (OPC) is most widely used cementitious material and is
the second most consumed resource in the world as it forms the basic ingredient in
concrete and Bricklayer Joseph Aspdin of Leeds, England first prepared Portland
cement early in the 19th century by sweltering powdered limestone and clay in his
kitchen stove [13]; this laid the foundation for an industry to develop a binder called
ordinary Portland cement. The major applications of concrete in the construction field
such as infrastructure, habitation and transportation have greatly influenced in
affecting the economic progress by improving the stability and quality of life to a
very wide extent.
However, inherent disadvantages are that production of Ordinary Portland cement
(OPC) using raw materials such as limestone and clay are depleting and quarrying of
them is causing the source for environmental degradation. OPC production involves a
very high energy intensive and exothermic process, as because it consumes 4Gj
energy and produces about one ton of carbon dioxide, where it significantly
contributes to 5% of global carbon ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The achieved coal is mainly composed of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen (nitrogen and
sulphur being minor elements) which are combustible in nature, and it also consists
of impurities (10 to 40%) existing in the form of clay, shale, quartz, feldspar and
limestone. As the coal enters the furnace, the combustible elements of the coal are
scalded at the elevated temperatures, whereas the mineral impurities of the coal
chemically recombine to produce crystal clear parts of the molten ash. Later, the
molten ash enters the flue gas and by lowering the temperature rapidly the ash turns
into spherical, glassy particles. Furthermost these particles fly out along with the flue
gas stream and hence the names fly ash. Finally, electrostatic precipitator collects all

Vegetarianism Philosophy Essay
Vegetarianism is a custom practiced in six out of the seven continents and has
become more popular over the years. Vegetarianism can be defined as the exclusion
of animal products such as meat and fish from one s diet. Dairy products and eggs
are often times excluded as well. Although there are many reasons one may decide to
become a Vegetarian or follow such a code of ethics, the most common include:
moral, religious or health reasons.
Morally, one may feel obligated to exercise Vegetarianism due to the inhumane
treatment of animals throughout the farming process. The issue is that roughly ten
billion animals are raised for United States food consumption alone. Animals such as
cows, fish, chickens, pigs, and turkeys are subjected to ... Show more content on

However, it is not an argument of which life holds more value. The argument is that it
is immoral to subdue animals to inhumane conditions for the purposes of efficiency
and human food consumption.
For some, the choice of Vegetarianism is decided based on religious beliefs or
practices. Vegetarianism is compatible with the major world religions the Eastern
Religions (Hinduism, Buddhism, and Taoism) and the Abrahamic Religions (Judaism,
Islam, Christianity, and BahГЎ Г Faith). Among these, it is most commonly
practiced by those of the Buddhist, Christian and Islamic faith. Vegetarianism within
the Buddhist culture is taught along with the Four Noble Truths, which focus on the
acts of suffering. Since the Buddhist faith accepts the idea of karma, it is believed
that in order to maintain a life of peace and happiness and remain free of suffering,
one must refrain from the harming, injuring or killing of any living being. As part of
the Christian faith, animal cruelty is forbidden. The teachings of Jesus Christ focus
on the ideas of love, compassion, mercy and acceptance. Although the question of
eating meat is not directly addressed in Christian doctrine it can be implied that
since animals are a creation of God and the idea of love for all of God s creations is
heavily stressed in the Christian faith, then out of Christian love on should lead a life
What Are The Long Term Causes Of The Great Depression
The Great Depression was a time in the U.S where the economy had dropped and
the majority of the population struggled with poverty. One of the long term causes
of the Great Depression was that there was no program to help aid the people
because President Hoover believed in rugged individualism, another long term
reason of the depression was that the people had placed money on the banks and
the banks would share it for the stock market and usually didn t give it back.
Hoover was elected in 1928, he believed in rugged individualism, natural cycles, and
voluntary action which prolonged the depression because there was nothing to back
up the people. FDR was elected in 1932 and the New Dealprograms were a set of
reforms that Roosevelt had set up... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, FDR had prior knowledge that major communities in the nation had a
huge a distrust of the government, the president wanted to achieve that reliance
again so that there would be a growing economy once more in the U.S. The belief
that FDR had of doing everything you can to make things better illustrates to us
and the people of the time that he wanted to gain that trust and faith that everyone
had lost because of the prior leader and the depression. Furthermore, President
Roosevelt had made a speech covering everything that he was willing to do for his
country and the faith of the people. This shows that he wanted to approach
everything to make the past a learnable experience and to move on from the tragic
downfall the U.S had. Thirdly, He wasn t afraid to loose a lot from the the New
Deal programs because he wanted to support the country in need. The President had
established an act called the social security act and it was a step forward to the the
acts that he had assigned before and after. This shows that everything FDR had done
was successful because it gave people that faith again to move forward and create a

The Caribbean islands are a group of diverse islands throughout the Caribbean Sea.
These islands can be as far south as the northern South America and as far north as
southern North America. These islands have a history that is steeped in its own
tradition and traditions from other nations. The Caribbean is a diverse populace that
has representation of many cultural and racial bodies. Many of the Caribbean

Initially, indentured servants from Europe were used as the labour to cultivate these
crops; however, as the sale of these crops exploded, Europeans began engaging in the
African slave trade to further support the harvesting of these crops (Thornton, 1993,
p. 182).
The history of African slaves is inextricably intertwined with the Caribbean history.
Many of the African slaves were sold into slavery but still were able to hold onto
customs and philosophical ideals (Thornton, 1993, p. 195). Though these Africans
were enslaved they still maintained many of their strong beliefs and warrior ideals
from their home countries. In fact, it is believed that these ideals were prominently
figured in the slave revolution of Saint Domingue that eventually resulted in Haiti s
independence (Thornton, 1993, p. 198).
The many historical influences on the Caribbean related to slavery and agriculture
had a continuing effect on the development of Caribbean islands long after slavery
was abolished. These influences are best demonstrated by the differing migration
patterns that occurred to sustain the agricultural based economy of the Caribbean
islands for the benefit of the European countries that had colonized these islands.
Migration Patterns
Slavery was gradually abolished throughout the Caribbean. European countries
became enlightened and realized that slavery was an inappropriate source of labour
(Young, 2015, p. 122). Despite the changing nature of the labour and the elimination
The Use Of Cell Phone Jammers
Today s generation, with such an immediate access to the internet and social media
apps, find it impossible to put down that pesky phone. It is time for all of us to get
a grip and fight off that urge to keep the daily streaks on snapchat and other social
media. A cell phone jammer is a device that blocks the reception of signals, usually
by creating some form of interference. In other words, a cell phone user will
experience a significant loss of signal quality. The government should legalize the
use of cell phone jammers because they prevent the certain event to occur such as
texting while driving, prevents other health risks. Some believe that cell phone
jammer should not be used at any cost because it contributes to mental and social
controversies, for instance cell phone jammers can make the situation worse by
making the cell phone useless in case of an emergency. In today s society, Mobile
phone jammers would be beneficial because they would improve health concerns
such as bizarre posture, anxiety and sleep loss, benefit social skills when speaking
face to face, and help prevent accident on the road. Overuse of cellphones can lead
to physical and mental ailments. Cell phones have become a major part of our lives
and it has been publicized that the long term effects are dreadful. Some common
symptoms of the overuse of phones are Irritated eyestrain, blurry vision, problems
focusing, headaches, neck shoulder pain, as well as binocular vision problems.
Chapter 1-4 Summary Chapter 4
Turkle introduces Chapter Eight by explaining an experiment conducted by faculty
and students at MIT in which students are connected to technology that connects
them to real and online life simultaneously, making them cyborgs . Now that it is
commonplace for most people in our society to have constant access to technology
with similar and vaster capabilities, we have all become cyborgs. Turkle believes
our ability to constantly connect to the online world changes who we are by
rearranging our priorities, our relationship with those around us, and how we connect
with our surroundings. People adore the new devices as well as the feelingthat they
are never truly alone. This constant access has unleashed multitudinous opportunities

Since devices are always readily available people no longer make conscious
choices to communicate, they just do. The online world takes up all of our
attention. This constant connection skews our view of reality. In the online world,
anything is possible but people begin to measure their success in reality by what
would be possible if they were always online. People shaped in a world of quick
responses measure success by the number of people they reached that day. We deny
ourselves downtime in order to have more time for communicating. Constant
communication takes the importance out of what we say. We often worry that our
emails and texts are a burden. They have always seemed destined to be thrown
away. Because of this, we treat people we meet online as objects. Constantly keeping
up with connections changes who we are in the morning. Our cultural forms are
shifting. Networking makes it easier to change your identity, but also harder to leave
the past in the past. Turkle closes the chapter by recalling a conversation with a
student who is exhausted by keeping up with online
Four Major Blood Types
there are four major blood types a ,b, ab, or O. The antigens on the surface of a
blood cell determines what kind of blood type you have. Antigens are proteins on
the surface of blood cells that can cause a response from the immune system. We
need to know these blood types so that if we ever needed a bloodtransfusion, we
know what blood typewe would need. It matters what blood type you receive when
you have a transfusion because if you receive a different blood type that yours it
could possibly kill you. All you need is to receive 50 miles or more of the wrong
blood type and you could die. , but there is an exception for some blood types that

the ABO blood group, but like the O blood type this blood type can only receive

Predicting The Future Of The Election Before The Voting...
Predicting the Future Life is full of surprises but there are three things that
ultimately determine how you live your life: past, present, and the future. We live
our daily lives on those three fundamentals. For example, if it was cold yesterday
and it is still cold now, it will probably still be cold tomorrow. This is the same way
for Presidential elections. If a candidate were to maintain their strong lead from the
beginning of the election, unless something were to happen, it is expected that they
will continue that lead in the futureas well. So if meteorologists are able to reliably
predict the outcome of the weather, can Psephologists reliably predict the outcome
of the presidential election before the voting deadline of November 8th? There are
always people who try to stay ahead and predict the future. The very first official
weather forecast was made in the 1860s and the first official gallup poll for
presidential election has dated back to Roosevelt vs. Landon in 1936 (The Birth of
the Weather Forecast). Since then, both weather forecast and presidential prediction
has both been reliable but not perfect. From 1936 to 2012, they have predicted 16 out
of 20 correctly, or with an 80% accuracy. Most of the incorrect predictions are only
off by 1% margin besides the year 1948 where the margin of error was a whopping
5% (Election Polls Accuracy Record in Presidential Elections). This was a tragic year
for the pollsters. 1948 presidential election
The Collapse Of Pol Pot In Cambodia
Pol Pot, a Cambodian revolutionary, is known to be one of the evilest man that ever
lived. He was the leader of the Khmer Rouge in which he served from 1963 to
1997. Then he served as the General Secretary of the Communist party of
Kampuchea from 1963 until 1981. Pol Pot and the communist Khmer Rouge were
responsible for the death of 7 to 8 million of Cambodians. Before killing his victims
he tortured them which caused severe suffrage.

Cambodians were unable to work because they weren t being fed, they were starving

The Khmer Rouge grew and grew as more people started being recruited. Due to a
big amount of Cambodians death because of America s strategies to the war, other
Cambodians grew disappointed with the western democracy. What drove new
recruits to Pol Pot s Khmer Rouge guerilla movement was the heavy U.S.

Definitions And Considerations Of New Markets
Implementations and Considerations
Introduction of New Markets introducing new markets offers profound potential to
attract new and old shoppers to the locality. However it also makes way for many
complications given the Camberwell council already operates a fresh food market
four days a week. The structural aesthetics and general cleanliness of a market plays a
pivotal role for the ultimate consumer. Should the markets look modern and clean
then shoppers are more likely to spend should the markets look old and dirty then
shoppers are more likely to never come again.
Given the infrastructure that the council would most likely use for hosting these new
markets are already being offered to the public for over 45hours a week it would be ...

However hosts must be careful in what movies cultures they choose to broadcast as
bad decisions arising from poor communication could lead to disputes and greater
racial tension than what there already is.
As the council has no movie theatres of their own they must relay this idea through
the cooperation with Rivoli. As Rivoli is a privately run enterprise the council
must offer them some form of financial benefit for their partnership. The focal
point in deciding the partnership with Rivoli lies on the choice of night the
council wishes to introduce this idea upon along with the compensation type the
council is willing to offer. Should it be a Friday or Saturday night Rivoli will
expect more for financial compensation for their services than if it were scheduled
for any other day of the week due to the nature of potential attendees and how most
people have Friday and Saturday nights off from work. Will the council then have
enough capital required to host the event on a Friday or Saturday night for the sake
of multiculturalism? Or is the cheaper alternative and hosting the event during other
days of the week more appropriate? Also shall payment be addressed as a lump sum?
Or will the profit split method be used? Assuming the profit split method is used what
happens if no profit is generated through this event? Will Rivoli finally then cancel
the event due the

In a perfect world, a student chooses his own path because of his opinion and past,
not because of what the data says he is supposed to. I m not in this world to live up
to your expectations and you re not in this world to live up to mine Bruce Lee
(Lee). This is a truth that can be translated into every aspect of daily life. Does a
student who is an African American from a household with an extremely low income
have to drop out of college or go to an HBCU? Not by any means, although the facts
feel like a jail cell, each person is different. Steve Jobs was put up for adoption and
taken in by a poor working class family. He went through high school and finally
made it to college, only to drop out after the first semester because of cost. He lived
off of free meals after dropping out. Then, with his friend Steve Wozniak and each

Apple is now a multi million dollar company that was started from a garage

clearer because of an intricate dissection and insightful comparison. Character and

Geographic Information Systems
It is mentioned in the paper that the future of utility and grounds asset management
involved Geographic Information Systems (GIS) . Discuss this statement.
GIS is not only more cost effective but also utilitarian and helps institutions that cover
vast tracts of ground deliver their public services better and more rapidly to their
users. For instance, by using GIS the management at the Physical Plant at Western
Michigan University can better spread communication amongst its staff of engineers,
technicians, skilled tradespersons and others in a manner that minimizes disruption of
the research, instructional and public service missions of WMU. The GIS would help
them in terms of utility simply expending and making the most of their resources.
The GIS would also help them in terms of ground asset management in that
institutions (such as the WMU in this case) would better know the conditions and
locations of their geographical and ground assets. This would not only organize their
operation but would also help them in terms of receiving funding. Assets include
features such as water bodies, roads, sidewalks, parking lots and building footprints.
All is digitized and coded so that institutions know their precise locations and their
existence. This helps them not only receive a full review of each of their assets but
also helps them forge a more interlocked, strong communication system.
As shown from the case, reliance on the GIS not only improves business practices in

Essay On Congenital Heart Disease
Congenital heart disease(CHD) is defined as a problem with the hearts structure and
function that is present at birth.According to the center of disease control and
prevention CHDs affect nearly 1% of―or about 40,000―births per year in the
United States.1,2. Congenital heart disease is often considered to be a childhood

have died from this condition in the past are now able to survive well into adulthood
and live relatively normal lives. Common symptoms are abnormal heartrhythms,

Some heart may reappear again in adulthood even if the defect is treated during
childhood. This tends to happen because rarely are heart defects actually cured. They
are repaired so that the heart function is improved but it usually does not make it
completely normal. Many reasons that congenital heart defects re emerge is because
often the treatment received during childhood was successful but later in life it
worsens. Another possible reason is that the defect was not bad enough to need to be
treated when the person was a child but has gotten worse over time and now requires
treatment. Currently congenital heart disease is not preventable but if the mother

`` White Noise `` By Jack Gladney
Jack Gladney teaches death, destruction, and devastation, he surrounds himself by
the legacy of chaos perpetuated by Hitler. Death did not stop Hitler, he continued to
live on by securing his place in history. Jack struggles to secure his own place in
history, rather he attaches himself to the important figure. The ever present fear of
deathaffects Jack and his family are differently, causing them to find their own ways
of dealing with it. While some are encouraged to pursue outrageous feats, others
attempt to cure themselves of the fear, and some try to defeat death itself.
Throughout the novel, White Noise, Jack is forced to look past the distractions of
daily life and face the looming fear of death that plagues his thoughts, and he learns
how that fear prevails even in the modern world.
Despite death, many powerful and popular individuals continue to live on. One
individual, Hitler, used his persona to gain political power which spawned a myth,
that grew larger than life and larger than death. Jack learns, studies, and lives
through Hitler, through his appraisal of Hitler, Jack realizes the insignificance of his
own death. His attachment to Hitler helps Jack ward off the overwhelming fear and
anxiety about being forgotten after his own death. In a discussion about Hitler and
Elvis, Murray notes, Elvis fulfilled the terms of the contract. Excess, deterioration,
self destructiveness, grotesque behavior, a physical bloating and a series of insults to

Indoor Water Supply Is Protected Catchment Areas
Water Catchments
Unique to Melbourne s Water supply is it protected catchment areas, and is the key
reason for very little treatment required (Melbourne Water 2014). Majority of the
water feeding into the dams comes from the Yarra catchment regions, starting in the
Great Dividing Ranges; figure 1.1 shows the regions for the catchments. The vast
majority of the area is in protected National Parks.
Yarra Catchment Regions
The Yarra catchment is north and east of Melbourne and covers approximately
4,046 square kilometers. It is split into three regions Upper, Middle, Lower. It is
home to more than one third of Victoria s population and native plant and animal
species, (Melbourne Water 2014) there is a large variety of land use... Show more

Protected Catchment
The protection of the catchment allow for a natural filtration system to occur
before water enters reservoirs. This is important as deeps soils acts like a sponges
to hold rain water, the filter and slowly release into springs, stream, creek and river
(Melbourne Water 2014) that feed into to our dams. This is the factor that decreases
that amount of treatment required for a clean drinkable water supply.
Melbourne has 90,800 hectares National Park (protected) majority of area is
inaccessible for public, limited to low impact activities such as bush walking
Water Catchments Open Catchments
While most of Melbourne s catchments allow limited public access, a smaller
proportion of our water comes from open catchments. These areas contain farmland,
rural properties and state forests that are open to activities such as camping and four
wheel driving and small amounts of timber harvesting.
The water from open catchments is put through a filtration treatment process, so it
meets the same drinking water quality requirements as water from protected
catchments.
An open catchment is considered to be from area with no/ minimal protection. This
mean that the water from these areas can be highly polluted and require extensive
treatment. Farming land, recreational areas, run off from roads are all considered to
be open catchment areas.
Open water catchments in Melbourne s water supply is compromised of:

How Did The Olympics And It s Impact On America
The 1992 Olympics was a huge impact on America and the Olympics games. The

amateurs against other college teams played basketballs in the Olympics. FIBA

Character Revelation of A Worn Path story by Eudora Welty Character is an
imaginative person who plays role in a story. (Kennedy, 1983 in Koesnosoebro,
1988). The role of character is very important. Every story must have its own
character, as their function are to play the role in a story. Sometimes, it is easy to
interpret how the character is. However, most of the time, it is quite difficult to know
about the characteristic of them and readers have to analyses more how the character
really is. The characters are not fully revealed at the beginning in order to make the
readers curious about them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her face lighted. I ought to be shut up for good, she said with laughter My senses is
gone, I too old. I the oldest people I know. Dance, old scarecrow, she said, While I
dancing with you. (Welty, 326 327)
From that utterance, we will know quite much information about the Phoenix
Jackson. We know that she is an old woman. It can be seen when she said that her
senses had all gone, and she was too old. In addition, this character is also cheerful
and full of imagination. We know that from she enjoyed dancing with a scarecrow in
which it cannot move nor talk. In revealing the character, we can also use the indirect
method. It can be seen from what character says and authorial presentation. In
knowing the character, sometimes a character will say something about how they are
to other characters. These characters will react to another character about their
characteristic. However, in authorial presentation, a writer describes his/her
characters contribution and background in a story. If the readers want to know
further about the character, they should analyze the character because everything is
revealed indirectly. To assure our comprehension about indirect method, we will have
an analysis about the character revelation. The technique which will be used is
authorial presentation. As we can read from the short story, A Worn Path : Putting her

How Sled Dogs Feel In The Iditarod Race
People should think about how sled dogs feel in the Iditarod races. The Iditarod is
cruel two dogs because the dogs are provided proper care and they have to run in
harsh weather and terrain.
veterinarians and mushers don t give the dogs the health care and love they need.
Larger Iditarod kennels frequently disposed of dogs by shooting them, drowning
them, or setting them loose to fend for themselves in the wilderness. Killing a dog for
no reason is abuse and shows how people in the Iditarod don t care about their dogs
at all. At least 136 dogs have died in the Iditarod or as a result of running in it. If
those dogs would have had the care they needed, most of them would not have died
in the race. However, some deaths are unpreventable.

Magnetar rapidly moved downwards to the securities which they believe were

How could Magnetar have lost money? Using information from the rest of the case,
describe how you think they came to the conclusion that the risk of losing money was

The risk of losing money lies in the correlation with the asset. Magnetar could lose

there is a high likelihood that the senior tranches of CDO s get impaired. If Magnetar

Analysis Of Ben Jonson s Ode To Shakespeare
This week s lecture is focused on Ben Jonson, his love hate relationship with
Shakespeare, his lyric poetry, Jonson s purpose, Jonson s life, and Volpone .
Jonson was constantly compared to Shakespeare which is often deemed as unfair.
Sadly. Jonson was always second best even though they were two different people
with different writing styles, temperament, artistic interests, etc.. However, this
could be due to working around each other and always being in the same
surroundings. There were times when Jonson would hint at Shakespeare in his
work but would often try to make Shakespeare look bad in order to boost his ego. In
my opinion, I do not blame Jonson for doing this because he was tired of being
compared to someone who was around... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In my opinion, I think it was wonderful that Jonson was able to achieve this because I
am sure after being compared to Shakespeare constantly that he needed something
that he could call his own achievement.
Next, Jonson s purpose was didactic. Didactic is defined the intent to teach or
lecture others while having a moral instruction as one s ulterior motive. Jonson
was seen as a public poet. I believe his used his poetry to teach others his neo
classical virtues. He believed his poems could be used as examples to introduce
people to wisdom, honesty, and his version of a good life. In my opinion, I think
that Jonson s poems could be used as a template to show people how to live a
better life or to show the moral of the story. I think he was trying to teach others to
embrace a good moral standing. One could say that his ulterior motive was to teach
people ethical principles and artistic standards because he believed that someone of
his standing should feel responsible to show others that they should follow these
rules. However, Jonson believed that his purpose was to defined the good life but
according to the lecture this would mean that Jonson would have to discover his self
knowledge and that it would have to be constant.
Next, Ben Jonson was born in London around June of 1572. Although, his father died
two months before his birth, Jonson was able to attend Westminster School but only
for a short time. Afterwards, he decided to follow in his stepfather s footprints

The Relationship Between Nissan And Mitsubishi
Description of the Situation
One of the most spoken and discussed issues in the business world has become
establishing the association between the Nissan and Mitsubishi car producers. After
the scandal that occurred as the Mitsubishi falsified its fuel economy tests, the
cooperation with Nissan is like a lifeline to the company. Nissan s decision to buy an
influential share of Mitsubishi s assets is believed to bring benefits to both
participants of the process. While this deal would help the Mitsubishi corporation to
improve its image after the cheating scandal, Nissan also expects to increase its
profits by using the recognizability of Mitsubishi s brand in the eastern countries.
Under the conditions of growing global competition in the automobile industry, the
alliance between the large Japanese and European car producers is supposed to
radically strengthen the positions of both companies on the market.
However, the formation of this alliance would not involve the complete merger of the
companies. Nissan shared information regarding taking a 34% stake in Mitsubishi
Motors , which would allow Nissan to gain de facto control over the processes
within Mitsubishi ( Nissan Is Buying ). With one third of the assets, Nissan would

and prevent the devastating cycle of abuse.
So, what exactly is dating violence? According to the Centers for Disease Control

Any teen or young adult can experience such violence. A relationship may be serious
or casual, monogamous or not, short term or long term. The statistics that show this
are alarming. According to the CDC Understanding Teen Dating Factsheet published
in 2016, among high school students who dated, 21% of females and 10% of males

Our college students seem to report more disturbing statistics. A study completed
by Liz Claiborne Love is Not Abuse, revealed that 43% of college women surveyed
say they ve experienced abusive dating behavior, including physical, sexual, verbal,

and let s keep raising awareness about dating violence. When I served in the
legislature, I was fortunate to work on legislation to raise awareness about this issue.
Such awareness must continue. The statistics are troubling and unacceptable. Let s
make it clear that dating must never include

The Beginning Of Colonial Life
The beginning of colonial life started off with great living conditions. There was a
lack of disease and good amount of clean drinking. These new conditions for the
colonist added a few years to the life expectancies. Because of the new great life
spans of the colonist, the growth of New England was at an all time high. Even
though there was a great start in New England, Chesapeake was far from growing at
the time. It was full of disease; almost all of the men and women were widowers. And
their children became orphans. Even though there were countless deaths, disease
captured mostly European women. The men then began to have relations with
African and Native American women. This then became known as miscegenation.

then would help and give them an advantage in fight. Both sides of the Native
American groups fought on this conflict. Washington then gave up and soon the
Colonial militia was taken over by General Braddock, all because the French
advanced in their proceedings of Fort Necessity. In 1755 the French were
victorious until 1758 when the British won a series of battles. The British captured
the French city of Quebec in 1759 while in 1760 the French signed a peace treaty
with the British. In this treaty Canada will no longer be controlled by France. All
the while the British allowed religious freedom to also take place here, which still
was not present in the other thirteen colonies. The end of the war was official with
the Treaty of Paris. Then there was the Treaty of Paris. This is when France
surrendered Canada to Britain with Louisiana under Spanish Control. These wars
doubled the debt for the English in its colonies and England. Since there was an
extensive amount of British troops, taxes were increased and this caused the
American Revolution that was an anti British movement. Furthermore the Colonial
period first had a great growth while others such as Chesapeake had numerous deaths.
Britain and France had ongoing conflicts over control, the Native Americans and

When the polar ice caps melt more water is added to the atmosphere. One finding
suggests that the ocean water is less salty then it was under the ice twenty years
earlier this would tend to confirm that the melting and shrinking of the ice caps
has already taken place (Barker 43). In general more rain would occur causing a
more humid climate. Heavy rains would cause mudslides like they did in California
last summer killing many people (Cook 58). The rains in California were torrential

Canonical Smad Pathway Analysis
The canonical Smad pathway involves the Smad proteins of which there are three
classes: the R Smads which are mediated by specific receptors, the common
mediator Smads (Co Smad) and the inhibitory Smads11,15. The Smad2 and 3
proteins are specific to the TGF ОІ signalling pathway whereas Smad1, 5 and 8 are
specific to the BMP 2 signalling pathway15. Within the TGF ОІ pathway, receptor
regulated Smad2 and Smad3 proteins are phosphorylated by the TGFОІRII with both
Smads forming complexes with Smad4, a common Smad19. The resulting complex
migrates into the nucleus acting as transcription factors for downstream activation of
the runt related transcription factor 2 (Runx2)19. Smad6 and Smad7 are the
inhibitory Smads: Smad7 in particular regulates the function of R Smads by targeting
the TGFОІRII for degradation and also by binding competitively to Smad4,

The MAPK signalling pathway also undergoes an additional step of JunB synthesis
that ultimately leads to Runx2 phosphorylation and formation of the Smad Runx2

Evelyn Waugh s Decline and Fall
Evelyn Waugh was born in 1903. He is not considered to be a distinguished novelist
but his writing is notable because they satirise much that was bizarre in English
society. His father was a publisher and his first novel, Decline and fall, was published
in 1928. It is a satire on the preparatory school industry. It is in the style and humour
of Charles Dickens. Evelyn Waugh achieves his purpose through exaggeration. He
paints characters that are larger than life, just like Dickens. We also see this method

story. He makes it seem normal that Church and Gargoyle, again a name Dickens
might have chosen to represent the contrast between the good church and the evil
looking gargoyles, can get him a job without the necessary qualifications, even
though testimonials are requested. They decide he is fit for the post even though he
does not know German. Similarly, he is told to give organ lessons to Beste
Chetwynde. Not one of the characters at Llanabba Castle, including the lead
Augustus Fagan Esquire, as he likes too be addressed, seems at all concerned with
education, or qualified to educate. Church and Gargoyle have it in the forth category,
that of bad schools. Dr. Fagan interviews for a few minutes and calls it A most
exhausting interview . The
English Language Reflection
BAKA! Screamed the blonde Tsundere girl as she punched the poor boy
protagonist who had accidentally chosen to take a shower at the wrong time. As I
watched this comedy duo on my companion s phone, I felt strangely compelled to
keep on watching and couldn t help but feel an urge to ask what in the world I was
watching. Then that question was answered with Nisekoi and after hearing those
words from my companion I started questioning their ability to speak English or
any language in a matter of fact. I started telling them they go see a speech therapist
for their problems That with the right help even a microcephalic addlepate as
yourself can find a cure. Pretty sure they never realized I was implying that they
were an imbecile, it s sad really. Regardless of this they informed me that what I was
watching was not any normal animations nor was it from this country actually. They
told me that I was watching and I quote ANIMU until they correct themselves and
said Anime. I never had a real Anime though I had a idea because of how people
associated this word with shows like DBZ or that one show with the monster
cards. I put my Pikachu in defence mode I put a poke card facing down and I end
my turn. This was proof that I had no real background knowledge behind this
concept but putting jokes aside I really didn t know anything about the entire world
of anime. After the episode finished, I was left with many questions left after learning
about this side anime so I kept
Literary Techniques And Devices In The Lottery By
Shirley...
When writing, authors use various writing techniques and devices to better their
story. From onomatopoeia, and similes, to mood and setting, these devices are
what make the stories we read astounding. Atmosphere specifically is imperative to
a great writing piece as it is prevalent throughout the entire story. From the first
three words to the last three words, the reader is focused on the mood they are
interpreting from the storyline. In The Lottery written by Shirley Jackson, the
mood is what makes the story so amazing and helps us understand the theme. The
story begins with a beautiful day and blossoming flowers. Which gives the reader a
sense of a light hearted childrens story. The morning of June 27th was clear and
Sunny... The flowers were blossoming profusely and the grass was richly green.
What do you think this sounds like? Initially, it sounded like something I could
read to my four year old sister. The mood is very happy go lucky as the story
continues. School was recently over for the summer, and the feeling of liberty sat
uneasily on most of them. While reading the story, I could relate to the it as I love
the summer and love being off from school. This story could have been in a regular
town precisely an older town as it was stated to only have 300 or so people, and they
mentioned a station wagon. The mood had been cheerful continuously until a little
uncertainty appeared, when all of the children started collecting rocks and making
piles. Dickie...
Favism Disease Research Paper
Favism disease, also known by its more scientific name of Glucose 6 Phosphate
Dehydrogenase Deficiency, is just that. Affecting 400 million people in the
Mediterranean and Africa, it is an inherited enzyme deficiency that is caused by a
genetic mutation, where the body lacks a kind of glucose, specifically Glucose6
Phosphate Dehydrogenase (G6PD) in the blood. G6PD is prevalent in every cell
of the body, especially in red blood cells, where it cleans up free radicals in the
cells. Free radicals are chemical elements looking to pair up with other chemicals, but
can cause chemical reactions within cells that cause premature cell death. Free
radicals disrupt cellular chemistry, and are thought to be a major cause of aging. In a
normal body, there... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
More than 50% of the world s population lives in an area where Malaria is common.
The first signs of malaria are fevers, chills, joint pain, vomiting, and anemia, and
can lead to a coma or death. Scientist JBS Haldane once suggested that people with
sickle cell anemia or thalassemia were naturally resistant to P. Falciparum, the
malarial disease. G6PD is an even better naturally evolved protection against
malaria. Researchers who studied the relationship of G6PD deficiency and malaria
found that children with the G6PD A mutation had a resistance twice as strong as
normal children to P. Falciparum. That s because Malaria, like many other
diseases, prefer normal healthy red blood cells rather than G6PD deficient blood
cells to multiply. Malaria is a delicate virus, and can only thrive is clean red blood
cells. The G6PD deficient cells are not only less hospitable to the virus but die
early which may disrupt the virus s lifestyle. At one point in time people
recognized that eating fava beans would reduce their body s hospitability to
Malaria, and thus evolved Favism disease which continues to serve the same
purpose today. People who are only partially deficient (women) are much better off
because not only do they get the malarial protection, but they also can ingest fava
beans and medicine safely. This is why people of African and Mediterranean descent
continue to develop Favism
Insight In Pangloss s Candide
Alejandro Munoz
ENG 20200
10/10/2014
Candide
The question for this essay is do I think Candide gained insight and why is that
relevant? To answer that question we must understand two things that are mentioned
throughout the whole story in a rather indirect way. The first thing we must define is
insight. People always talk about gaining insight but how many of them actually use
it the right way or even thinks about the fact that insight might mean something
different to other people? Well to me, insight is not the ability to gain knowledge
about something or someone, to me it is THE PROCESS of learning through
experiences of your own and other s. Insight is not just something you are told; the
way that Pangloss tells Candide throughout entire the story ...everything is for the
best in this world ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fact that Pangloss made Candide believe this throughout the whole story
affected Candide s judgment and ability to gain actual insight. But we ll talk about
that later on. On the other hand, the second term that I believe must be clarified is
my definition or rather my view of Satire. What is that word and what does it
mean? Classmate NAME described insight in a manner that I would actually agree
to. He said that Satire is QUOTE. I believe that definition to be entirely true, the
only thing that I would add to it is that Satire doesn t just make fun of politics and
society, I would make it more specific and would argue that satire makes fun of
every controversial topic there is, from religion, to politics, to abortion, and even
death, in a cruel but kind of true way. This means in my mind that even though satire
is meant to be entertaining and comical, it is also intended to touch a soft spot on
our heads and realize that some of the things said are actually true. Anyways, now
that those to important terms are defined from my point of view, an answer can be
given. So did Candide gain insight? In
Memories Of Murder
Why the isn t the case solved in memories of murder
The movie memories of murder takes a unique take on a mystery movie where the
case is never solved even though it could have been easily solved due to a plot
point in the story. There are some other reasons behind the decision to not solve the
case one of them being that this movie was based off a true ,story korea s first serial
killer witch was made not to long after the original case. this case was never solved
so it s only fair that the movie was as well, and because of this the director could do
some interesting takes on some scenes that he couldn t do otherwise. First off the
mystery could have been solved at the very beginning the detectives found a witness
of the killer but because they interrogate the witness and beat a confession out of
him they learned nothing about who the true killer is. This was done to show as a
detective you don t you want to find the killer but you don t want to get a fake
confession. This was a very common practice by cops at the time to beat suspects and
a recurring theme with all the other suspects in the film. Arrested beat until they
confessed then evidence appears that proves them innocent. ... Show more content on

And even during the time they are interrogating the boy they harass him for and
answer and he shuts down and runs off to latter be run over by a train. And as state
previously this was done to show police that if you just treat your suspicte properly
you can get proper information and not false information or a false
Summary Of David Brooks The Merits Of Meritocracy
In The Merits of Meritocracy, by David Brooks, Brooks discusses the lives of
middle class children growing up in America. He opens up with an anecdote about
his daughter, to lead into one of his main points: middle class children have busy
and protected childhood, filled with many opportunities supervised by adults
(193). For instance, his daughter has four different helmets for biking, pogo
sticking, skateboarding, and playing baseball (193). She is a prime example of
how the middle class is presented with opportunities and busy lives; because of this,
Brooks claims the general middle class parent fears their child is too spoiled by
abundance, and will never have to commit to one thing (194). Another large fear
Brooks states they have, is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From day one, middle class merits are expected to do great things; they are
expected to excel in school and sports, Brooks contends (194). He furthers this by
saying that the activities that the middle class participates in become the bricks of
their identities (195). Brooks argues that character is not created in youth and just
retained throughout life, but is built up gradually and people must struggle to
maintain and improve throughout their lives (195). He moves his argument
forward by talking about how society will reward these meritocrats (195, 196).
Brooks believes that society is constantly praising these kids, and that this praise
pushes them towards the realization that their success means nothing, unless they
give back to society (196). He uses the example of a baseball player enjoying trips
to clinics to share stories with the younger kids there (196). Brooks then moves into
discussing the choices meritocrats must make later in life; he insists that some
people can choose to be made famous because of looks or money (196). He says the
other side of this, is to choose an opportunity more worthy of your time and others
praise

The explanation of organizational structure is of the business, in such a way to
execute and meet business goals. There are two structural design types; vertical and

Employment with Time Warner Cable is generally at will, which means that either
you or Time Warner Cable may terminate the employment relationship at any time,
subject to the terms of individual employment agreements. The Standards of Business
Conduct are not intended to impose new terms and conditions of employment, where
this would be contrary to the terms of any existing contractual relationships, such as
collective bargaining agreements. For union represented employees, the
implementation of the Standards may be subject to discussion with the relevant
union representative Yet implementing total rewards programs raises daunting
challenges. Practitioners who ignore these challenges do so at their and their

Directed by David Fincher and released in 2010, it is an informative film which attempts to shed light on the real story behind the creation and rise of Facebook, starting from the beginning and revealing all the possibly hidden or not as well known facts behind it. Though some of the movie may be Hollywoodized and exaggerated for a dramatic depiction, with exceptional acting and a compelling story, it does a fantastic job of informing viewers all about Facebook while still engrossing them in the story and captivating their interest. The movie opens up on a scene when Mark Zuckerberg, played by Jesse Eisenberg, is dumped by his girlfriend Erica Albright after an argument. From this moment, a long chain of events is set into motion that ultimately lead to the success of one of the most prominent and influential social media sites in internet and communication history. After Mark is dumped, he is humiliated and set on obtaining revenge. From his anger, he, along with his only real friend Eduardo Saverin, who is played by Andrew Garfield, work to create a website that will serve as payback for his girlfriend breaking up with him. Created on October 28, 2003, the site that they create is called Facemash, which is the very first version of Facebook. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Ordinary Portland Cement General Ordinary Portland cement (OPC) is most widely used cementitious material and is the second most consumed resource in the world as it forms the basic ingredient in concrete and Bricklayer Joseph Aspdin of Leeds, England first prepared Portland cement early in the 19th century by sweltering powdered limestone and clay in his kitchen stove [13]; this laid the foundation for an industry to develop a binder called ordinary Portland cement. The major applications of concrete in the construction field such as infrastructure, habitation and transportation have greatly influenced in affecting the economic progress by improving the stability and quality of life to a very wide extent. However, inherent disadvantages are that production of Ordinary Portland cement (OPC) using raw materials such as limestone and clay are depleting and quarrying of them is causing the source for environmental degradation. Vegetarianism can be defined as the exclusion of animal products such as meat and fish from one s diet. Dairy products and eggs are often times excluded as well. Although there are many reasons one may decide to become a Vegetarian or follow such a code of ethics, the most common include: moral, religious or health reasons. The argument is that it is immoral to subdue animals to inhumane conditions for the purposes of efficiency and human food consumption. For some, the choice of Vegetarianism is decided based on religious beliefs or practices. Vegetarianism is compatible with the major world religions the Eastern Religions (Hinduism, Buddhism, and Taoism) and the Abrahamic Religions (Judaism, Islam, Christianity, and BahГЎ Г Faith). Among these, it is most commonly practiced by those of the Buddhist, Christian and Islamic faith. Vegetarianism within the Buddhist culture is taught along with the Four Noble Truths, which focus on the acts of suffering. Since the Buddhist faith accepts the idea of karma, it is believed that in order to maintain a life of peace and happiness and remain free of suffering, one must refrain from the harming, injuring or killing of any living being. As part of the Christian faith, animal cruelty is forbidden. The teachings of Jesus Christ focus on the ideas of love, compassion, mercy and acceptance. Although the question of eating meat is not directly addressed in Christian doctrine it can be implied that since animals are a creation of God and the idea of love for all of God s creations is heavily stressed in the Christian faith, then out of Christian love on should lead a life

One of the long term causes of the Great Depression was that there was no program to help aid the people because President Hoover believed in rugged individualism, another long term reason of the depression was that the people had placed money on the banks and the banks would share it for the stock market and usually didn t give it back. The President had established an act called the social security act and it was a step forward to the the acts that he had assigned before and after. This shows that everything FDR had done was successful because it gave people that faith again to move forward and create a better moving

Initially, indentured servants from Europe were used as the labour to cultivate these crops; however, as the sale of these crops exploded, Europeans began engaging in the African slave trade to further support the harvesting of these crops (Thornton, 1993, p. 182). The history of African slaves is inextricably intertwined with the Caribbean history. Many of the African slaves were sold into slavery but still were able to hold onto customs and philosophical ideals (Thornton, 1993, p. 195). Though these Africans were enslaved they still maintained many of their strong beliefs and warrior ideals from their home countries. In fact, it is believed that these ideals were prominently figured in the slave revolution of Saint Domingue that eventually resulted in Haiti s independence (Thornton, 1993, p. 198). The many historical influences on the Caribbean related to slavery and agriculture had a continuing effect on the development of Caribbean islands long after slavery was abolished. These influences are best demonstrated by the differing migration patterns that occurred to sustain the agricultural based economy of the Caribbean islands for the benefit of the European countries that had colonized these islands. Migration Patterns Slavery was gradually abolished throughout the Caribbean. European countries

  • 12. Chapter 1-4 Summary Chapter 4 Turkle introduces Chapter Eight by explaining an experiment conducted by faculty and students at MIT in which students are connected to technology that connects them to real and online life simultaneously, making them cyborgs . Now that it is commonplace for most people in our society to have constant access to technology with similar and vaster capabilities, we have all become cyborgs. Turkle believes our ability to constantly connect to the online world changes who we are by rearranging our priorities, our relationship with those around us, and how we connect with our surroundings. People adore the new devices as well as the feelingthat they are never truly alone. This constant access has unleashed multitudinous opportunities for people of all ages to experiment with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since devices are always readily available people no longer make conscious choices to communicate, they just do. The online world takes up all of our attention. This constant connection skews our view of reality. In the online world, anything is possible but people begin to measure their success in reality by what would be possible if they were always online. People shaped in a world of quick responses measure success by the number of people they reached that day. We deny ourselves downtime in order to have more time for communicating. Constant communication takes the importance out of what we say. We often worry that our emails and texts are a burden. They have always seemed destined to be thrown away. Because of this, we treat people we meet online as objects. Constantly keeping up with connections changes who we are in the morning. Our cultural forms are shifting. Networking makes it easier to change your identity, but also harder to leave the past in the past. Turkle closes the chapter by recalling a conversation with a student who is exhausted by keeping up with online

  • 14. Predicting The Future Of The Election Before The Voting... Predicting the Future Life is full of surprises but there are three things that ultimately determine how you live your life: past, present, and the future. We live our daily lives on those three fundamentals. For example, if it was cold yesterday and it is still cold now, it will probably still be cold tomorrow. This is the same way for Presidential elections. If a candidate were to maintain their strong lead from the beginning of the election, unless something were to happen, it is expected that they will continue that lead in the futureas well. So if meteorologists are able to reliably predict the outcome of the weather, can Psephologists reliably predict the outcome of the presidential election before the voting deadline of November 8th? There are always people who try to stay ahead and predict the future. The very first official weather forecast was made in the 1860s and the first official gallup poll for presidential election has dated back to Roosevelt vs. Landon in 1936 (The Birth of the Weather Forecast). Since then, both weather forecast and presidential prediction has both been reliable but not perfect. From 1936 to 2012, they have predicted 16 out of 20 correctly, or with an 80% accuracy. Most of the incorrect predictions are only off by 1% margin besides the year 1948 where the margin of error was a whopping 5% (Election Polls Accuracy Record in Presidential Elections). This was a tragic year for the pollsters. 1948 presidential election

Definitions And Considerations Of New Markets Implementations and Considerations Introduction of New Markets introducing new markets offers profound potential to attract new and old shoppers to the locality. However it also makes way for many complications given the Camberwell council already operates a fresh food market four days a week. The structural aesthetics and general cleanliness of a market plays a pivotal role for the ultimate consumer. Or is the cheaper alternative and hosting the event during other days of the week more appropriate? Also shall payment be addressed as a lump sum? Or will the profit split method be used? Does a student who is an African American from a household with an extremely low income have to drop out of college or go to an HBCU? Not by any means, although the facts feel like a jail cell, each person is different. Steve Jobs was put up for adoption and taken in by a poor working class family. He went through high school and finally made it to college, only to drop out after the first semester because of cost. He lived off of free meals after dropping out. Then, with his friend Steve Wozniak and each of their fascinations with technology, they sold their belongings to start Apple. GIS is not only more cost effective but also utilitarian and helps institutions that cover vast tracts of ground deliver their public services better and more rapidly to their users. For instance, by using GIS the management at the Physical Plant at Western Michigan University can better spread communication amongst its staff of engineers, technicians, skilled tradespersons and others in a manner that minimizes disruption of the research, instructional and public service missions of WMU. The GIS would help them in terms of utility simply expending and making the most of their resources. The GIS would also help them in terms of ground asset management in that institutions (such as the WMU in this case) would better know the conditions and locations of their geographical and ground assets. This would not only organize their operation but would also help them in terms of receiving funding. Assets include features such as water bodies, roads, sidewalks, parking lots and building footprints. All is digitized and coded so that institutions know their precise locations and their existence. This helps them not only receive a full review of each of their assets but also helps them forge a more interlocked, strong communication system. As shown from the case, reliance on the GIS not only improves business practices in many

Britain and France had ongoing conflicts over control, the Native Americans and Africans then became involved while the militias were taken
  • 37. Essay about Resolving the Global Warming Problem Resolving the Global Warming Problem It is our attitude at the beginning of a difficult task which, more than anything else will effect the outcome. Global Warming according to Microsoft Bookshelf nineteen ninety eight edition is A conjectural greenhouse effect on earth that is attributed to deforestation and industrial air emissions (MS Bookshelf 98). Global Warming could be one of the most important issues of the century. As global warming becomes more and more of an issue, the factors surrounding global warming need to be dealt with. The world is beginning to show that if something is not done about global warming serious side effects can occur. At first impression someone might think that global warming does not effect ... Many of the earth?s water supplies would be in danger because of incursions of seawater, and the effects of incurring seawater could be fatal for many species (129). . If one species goes extinct then in the long run humans suffer. Basic food pyramid principles can be applied to conclude the effects of species extinction. When the polar ice caps melt more water is added to the atmosphere. One finding suggests that the ocean water is less salty then it was under the ice twenty years earlier this would tend to confirm that the melting and shrinking of the ice caps has already taken place (Barker 43). In general more rain would occur causing a more humid climate. Heavy rains would cause mudslides like they did in California last summer killing many people (Cook 58). The rains in California were torrential and the worst the state has seen in many years (Hayden 13). If the ocean rises that much then the saltwater incursions would eliminate much of the fresh water in the world. Moisture fuels many of the worst storms in the world. If the ice caps melt obviously much more water will be added to the atmosphere. Hurricanes, floods, tsunamis, typhoons, cyclones, and monsoons, are a few of the most dangerous storms fueled by heat and water. Most people know the catastrophes that all of these storms have created throughout the years. Recently the worst cyclone in 25 years hit India killing more than 400 people and in Africa unusually strong rains
  • 38. Canonical Smad Pathway Analysis The canonical Smad pathway involves the Smad proteins of which there are three classes: the R Smads which are mediated by specific receptors, the common mediator Smads (Co Smad) and the inhibitory Smads11,15. The Smad2 and 3 proteins are specific to the TGF ОІ signalling pathway whereas Smad1, 5 and 8 are specific to the BMP 2 signalling pathway15. Within the TGF ОІ pathway, receptor regulated Smad2 and Smad3 proteins are phosphorylated by the TGFОІRII with both Smads forming complexes with Smad4, a common Smad19. The resulting complex migrates into the nucleus acting as transcription factors for downstream activation of the runt related transcription factor 2 (Runx2)19. Smad6 and Smad7 are the inhibitory Smads: Smad7 in particular regulates the function of R Smads by targeting the TGFОІRII for degradation and also by binding competitively to Smad4, disrupting Smad2 and 3 binding20.... The MAPK signalling pathway also undergoes an additional step of JunB synthesis that ultimately leads to Runx2 phosphorylation and formation of the Smad Runx2 complex, a critical step where any disruption would mean a loss of Runx2 transcriptional activation23,24. Hereafter, both the canonical and non canonical Smad pathways converge to regulate Runx2 gene transcription, and thereby regulate MSC differentiation into
  • 39. Essay about Evelyn Waugh s Decline and Fall Evelyn Waugh s Decline and Fall Evelyn Waugh was born in 1903. He is not considered to be a distinguished novelist but his writing is notable because they satirise much that was bizarre in English society. His father was a publisher and his first novel, Decline and fall, was published in 1928. It is a satire on the preparatory school industry. It is in the style and humour of Charles Dickens. Evelyn Waugh achieves his purpose through exaggeration. He paints characters that are larger than life, just like Dickens. We also see this method used in today s television in programmes like Spitting Image where gargoyle like images of prominent personalities behave in an outrageous way. The descriptions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Evelyn Waugh satirises the way that the school employs teachers. They don t care about qualifications needed to be a teacher; they just employ and rip you off. For example Paul Pennyfeather does not teach music but he has to. Paul later ends up as a schoolmaster because he gets expelled from the school for indecent behaviour. This school is nowhere near what any reader would expect it to be. It s absolutely a joke. Waugh continues this narrative conversational tone to continue PennyfeatherВґs story. He makes it seem normal that Church and Gargoyle, again a name Dickens might have chosen to represent the contrast between the good church and the evil looking gargoyles, can get him a job without the necessary qualifications, even though testimonials are requested. They decide he is fit for the post even though he does not know German. Similarly, he is told to give organ lessons to Beste Chetwynde. Not one of the characters at Llanabba Castle, including the lead Augustus Fagan Esquire, as he likes too be addressed, seems at all concerned with education, or qualified to educate. Church and Gargoyle have it in the forth category, that of bad schools. Dr. Fagan interviews for a few minutes and calls it A most exhausting interview . The

As I watched this comedy duo on my companion s phone, I felt strangely compelled to keep on watching and couldn t help but feel an urge to ask what in the world I was watching. Then that question was answered with Nisekoi and after hearing those words from my companion I started questioning their ability to speak English or any language in a matter of fact. I started telling them they go see a speech therapist for their problems That with the right help even a microcephalic addlepate as yourself can find a cure. Pretty sure they never realized I was implying that they were an imbecile, it s sad really. Regardless of this they informed me that what I was watching was not any normal animations nor was it from this country actually. They told me that I was watching and I quote ANIMU until they correct themselves and said Anime. I never had a real Anime though I had a idea because of how people associated this word with shows like DBZ or that one show with the monster cards. I put my Pikachu in defence mode I put a poke card facing down and I end my turn. This was proof that I had no real background knowledge behind this concept but putting jokes aside I really didn t know anything about the entire world of anime. After the episode finished, I was left with many questions left after learning about this side anime so I kept
  • 41. Literary Techniques And Devices In The Lottery By Shirley... When writing, authors use various writing techniques and devices to better their story. From onomatopoeia, and similes, to mood and setting, these devices are what make the stories we read astounding. Atmosphere specifically is imperative to a great writing piece as it is prevalent throughout the entire story. From the first three words to the last three words, the reader is focused on the mood they are interpreting from the storyline. In The Lottery written by Shirley Jackson, the mood is what makes the story so amazing and helps us understand the theme. The story begins with a beautiful day and blossoming flowers. Which gives the reader a sense of a light hearted childrens story. The morning of June 27th was clear and Sunny... The flowers were blossoming profusely and the grass was richly green. What do you think this sounds like? Initially, it sounded like something I could read to my four year old sister. The mood is very happy go lucky as the story continues. School was recently over for the summer, and the feeling of liberty sat uneasily on most of them. While reading the story, I could relate to the it as I love the summer and love being off from school. This story could have been in a regular town precisely an older town as it was stated to only have 300 or so people, and they mentioned a station wagon. The mood had been cheerful continuously until a little uncertainty appeared, when all of the children started collecting rocks and making piles. Dickie...
  • 42. Favism Disease Research Paper Favism disease, also known by its more scientific name of Glucose 6 Phosphate Dehydrogenase Deficiency, is just that. Affecting 400 million people in the Mediterranean and Africa, it is an inherited enzyme deficiency that is caused by a genetic mutation, where the body lacks a kind of glucose, specifically Glucose6 Phosphate Dehydrogenase (G6PD) in the blood. G6PD is prevalent in every cell of the body, especially in red blood cells, where it cleans up free radicals in the cells. Free radicals are chemical elements looking to pair up with other chemicals, but can cause chemical reactions within cells that cause premature cell death. Free radicals disrupt cellular chemistry, and are thought to be a major cause of aging. In a normal body, there... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... More than 50% of the world s population lives in an area where Malaria is common. The first signs of malaria are fevers, chills, joint pain, vomiting, and anemia, and can lead to a coma or death. Scientist JBS Haldane once suggested that people with sickle cell anemia or thalassemia were naturally resistant to P. Falciparum, the malarial disease. G6PD is an even better naturally evolved protection against malaria. Researchers who studied the relationship of G6PD deficiency and malaria found that children with the G6PD A mutation had a resistance twice as strong as normal children to P. Falciparum. That s because Malaria, like many other diseases, prefer normal healthy red blood cells rather than G6PD deficient blood cells to multiply. Malaria is a delicate virus, and can only thrive is clean red blood cells. The G6PD deficient cells are not only less hospitable to the virus but die early which may disrupt the virus s lifestyle. At one point in time people recognized that eating fava beans would reduce their body s hospitability to Malaria, and thus evolved Favism disease which continues to serve the same purpose today. People who are only partially deficient (women) are much better off because not only do they get the malarial protection, but they also can ingest fava beans and medicine safely. This is why people of African and Mediterranean descent continue to develop Favism
  • 43. Insight In Pangloss s Candide Alejandro Munoz ENG 20200 10/10/2014 Candide The question for this essay is do I think Candide gained insight and why is that relevant? To answer that question we must understand two things that are mentioned throughout the whole story in a rather indirect way. The first thing we must define is insight. People always talk about gaining insight but how many of them actually use it the right way or even thinks about the fact that insight might mean something different to other people? Well to me, insight is not the ability to gain knowledge about something or someone, to me it is THE PROCESS of learning through experiences of your own and other s. Insight is not just something you are told; the way that Pangloss tells Candide throughout entire the story ...everything is for the best in this world ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The fact that Pangloss made Candide believe this throughout the whole story affected Candide s judgment and ability to gain actual insight. But we ll talk about that later on. On the other hand, the second term that I believe must be clarified is my definition or rather my view of Satire. What is that word and what does it mean? Classmate NAME described insight in a manner that I would actually agree to. He said that Satire is QUOTE. I believe that definition to be entirely true, the only thing that I would add to it is that Satire doesn t just make fun of politics and society, I would make it more specific and would argue that satire makes fun of every controversial topic there is, from religion, to politics, to abortion, and even death, in a cruel but kind of true way. This means in my mind that even though satire is meant to be entertaining and comical, it is also intended to touch a soft spot on our heads and realize that some of the things said are actually true. Anyways, now that those to important terms are defined from my point of view, an answer can be given. So did Candide gain insight? In

Memories Of Murder Why the isn t the case solved in memories of murder The movie memories of murder takes a unique take on a mystery movie where the case is never solved even though it could have been easily solved due to a plot point in the story. There are some other reasons behind the decision to not solve the case one of them being that this movie was based off a true ,story korea s first serial killer witch was made not to long after the original case. this case was never solved so it s only fair that the movie was as well, and because of this the director could do some interesting takes on some scenes that he couldn t do otherwise. First off the mystery could have been solved at the very beginning the detectives found a witness of the killer but because they interrogate the witness and beat a confession out of him they learned nothing about who the true killer is. This was done to show as a detective you don t you want to find the killer but you don t want to get a fake confession. This was a very common practice by cops at the time to beat suspects and a recurring theme with all the other suspects in the film. Arrested beat until they confessed then evidence appears that proves them innocent. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 45. Summary Of David Brooks The Merits Of Meritocracy In The Merits of Meritocracy, by David Brooks, Brooks discusses the lives of middle class children growing up in America. He opens up with an anecdote about his daughter, to lead into one of his main points: middle class children have busy and protected childhood, filled with many opportunities supervised by adults (193). For instance, his daughter has four different helmets for biking, pogo sticking, skateboarding, and playing baseball (193). She is a prime example of how the middle class is presented with opportunities and busy lives; because of this, Brooks claims the general middle class parent fears their child is too spoiled by abundance, and will never have to commit to one thing (194). Another large fear Brooks states they have, is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From day one, middle class merits are expected to do great things; they are expected to excel in school and sports, Brooks contends (194). He furthers this by saying that the activities that the middle class participates in become the bricks of their identities (195). Brooks argues that character is not created in youth and just retained throughout life, but is built up gradually and people must struggle to maintain and improve throughout their lives (195). He moves his argument forward by talking about how society will reward these meritocrats (195, 196). Brooks believes that society is constantly praising these kids, and that this praise pushes them towards the realization that their success means nothing, unless they give back to society (196). He uses the example of a baseball player enjoying trips to clinics to share stories with the younger kids there (196). Brooks then moves into discussing the choices meritocrats must make later in life; he insists that some people can choose to be made famous because of looks or money (196). He says the other side of this, is to choose an opportunity more worthy of your time and others praise
