Analyzing The Origins Of The Dutch Armies And Its First...
Countermarching is the military maneuver in which rows of infantry take turns advancing and
firing upon an enemy, only to be replaced by the rank behind them which had already reloaded.
The maneuver would allow ranks of infantry to establish a constant base of fire while involving a
greater proportion of rifle bearing soldiers at a single given time. The deadly practice saw its first
applications in late 16th centuryJapan and later developed independently in the midst of the Dutch
Revolt in Western Europe. Western European countermarch stemmed from humble and classical
origins, but would grow to be the status quo used by every major militarypower in Europe by the
end of the 17th century. To fully grasp the importance of this development,... Show more content on

During the siege of Middleburg in 1572, the Spanish implemented water defenses that prevented
any the effective use of siege equipment by the Dutch. The Spanish also exploited their
competitive advantage in open combat away from Dutch waterways, and in open combat crushed
Louis of Nassau s army at Mook on the 14th of April 1574. Fighting between the army of Flanders,
which had just under 100,000 men by the end of 1580. The combination of Dutch Naval superiority
and the Army of Flanders superiority on the ground meant that no meaningful victory could be
achieved. The wars remained costly for both governments with the Spanish defaulting on war debts
in 1575, but with the dutch unable to exploit their sudden advantage because of a tired and
ineffective military. In order to finally reunite the low countries, newly appointed Maurice of Nassau
would have to embark on a series of military reforms that could see influence expanded into the
landlocked south, away from the comfort of the ocean and waterways of the north.
Early military reformers had a great deal of difficulty reforming the status quo, as military generals
and members of the intellectual community demonstrated a great deal of inertia. As military
thinkers and philosophers began to explore newly translated ancient texts, they ran into a great deal
of intellectual backlash. In a particularly potent example, Thomas Digges, an Englishmen who
served in the armies of the Dutch republic, writes in his

Guantanamo Bay Is Not Cool
Guantanamo Bay is Not Cool
America is better off if Guantanamo Bay was shut down.
The Politics of GuantГЎnamo. The Economist. The Economist Newspaper, 18 Oct. 2014. Web.
Nov. 2015.1 President Obama called for Guantanamo Bay to be shut down back in 2009. It is
now 2015 and Guantanamo Bay is still open and still holding many types of prisoners.
Guantanamo Bay mainly holds suspected terrorists, but also holds other types of prisoners.
Prisoners being held captive have been imprisoned and have yet to have a trial. In other words,
some are just being held captive under suspicion. Would America be better off if Guantanamo Bay
was closed and those who have been imprisoned either transferred to another prison or essentially
freed?
Guantanamo Bay opened for its main purpose in late 2001 shortly after the United States went to
Afghanistan after the September 11 attacks2. Since 2001, Guantanamo Bay has held around 800
people. 2002 was when the first suspected terrorist was imprisoned and since then the numbers
have been slowly decreasing. Slowly prisoners have been found innocent or have had lack of
evidence to prove that they are guilty, but are still being held captive.3 There are a few reasons as
to why those who have been cleared to be transferred or released but have not been.
One reason is that those who have been in Guantanamo Bay for years have no place to go. They
have been held captive for so long that their home country do not want them back. Another reason is
if their

The Role Of Exceptional Leaders During The New Republic Era
Exceptional leaders are key to the development of new countries. This was especially true during
the New Republic Era, spanning from the late 1700s to the early 1800s, in which the first five
presidents worked to lead the fragile, weak nation from infancy into a developed nation with a great
infrastructure. George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and James Monroe all guided the nation using
advantageous foreign and domestic policies toward a brighter, more prosperous nation.
George Washington was the first leader to save the nation from debt and unnecessary conflict with
other nations. He instituted a series of tariffs and taxes during the first years of his presidency,
1790 to 1791, to help lift the burden of debt off of the nation s back. It showed that George
Washington cared about the new nation and used his leadership to try to help solve the nation s
many problems. George Washington created a policy of neutrality on April 22, 1793, called the
Neutrality Proclamation because he knew the US was too young and too unprepared to fight in any
war. It saved the United States from having to be included in impractical, inconclusive European
wars that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thomas Jefferson purchased the Louisiana Territory for 15 million dollars on May 2, 1803,
from Napoleon. His foresight helped boost the economy of the US and its expansion because the
US could use the Mississippi River to transport the abundant resources of the Louisiana Territory
to the industrial centers in the eastern states and then to the European market. Jefferson
undertook his responsibility of showing America s power by engaging in the Tripoli Wars which
showed European powers that the US was a fighting force not to be reckoned with. By proving the
army and navy were capable of war, Jefferson built the foundation of the US s emergence as a
world power and later a

The Chesapeake Bay And The Bay
The Chesapeake Bay, which derives from the Algonquin word Chesepiooc meaning great
shellfish bay , has been around for a very long time. Approximately 35 million years ago, a rare
bolide (a comet or asteroid like object) hit what is now the lower tip of the Delmarva Peninsula,
creating a 55 mile wide crater. The bolide created what geologists call the Exmore Crater, which
they believe was as large as Rhode Island and as deep as the Grand Canyon. Although this bolide
did not create the Chesapeake Bay, it helped determine that a bay would eventually be located there.
Today, the Chesapeake Bay stretches from Havre de Grace, Marylandto Norfolk Virginia. The Bay
is approximately 200 miles long, up to 35 miles wide, and has an average ... Show more content on

The Bay s salinity varies widely from season to season and from year to year, depending on the
amount of fresh water flowing from its rivers. The Bay tends to be fresher in spring, when snow
melts and heavy rainstorms frequently fall. During the drier months, the Bay is usually saltier.
Salinity also increases with depth. Fresh water remains at the surface because it is less dense than
salt water. The water on the Bay s eastern shore tends to be saltier than the water on the western
side. This is due to two factors; most fresh water enters the Bay from its northern and western
tributaries, and The Coriolis Force, a phenomenon caused by the earth s rotation, pushes flowing
water in the Northern Hemisphere to the right, causing saltier water to move up the Bay veers
toward the eastern shore.
The Chesapeake Bay is the largest estuary in the United States. About half of the Bay s water
volume comes from salt water from the Atlantic Ocean. The other half drains into the Bay from its
enormous 64,000 square mile watershed. Estuaries are among the most productive environments on
earth, creating more organic matter each year than similarly sized forests and agricultural areas.
Estuaries also provide diverse habitats for wildlife and aquatic life, protect our communities against
flooding, reduce pollution of waterways, and support local economies through commercial and
recreational activities. Thousands of species

Common Ethical Dilemmas Faced in Nursing
Nursing can have its ups and its downs; however, most of its problems occur when nurses are
faced with ethical decisions. Pro Life vs. Pro Choice, Freedom vs. Control, Truth vs. Deception,
and Knowledge vs. personal beliefs are all part of the problem. We live in a world where there
seems to be contriversy about everything. Nursing is a very important field where there has to be
good communication and great care, any hiccups in this could affect the whole work place. So what
happens when you re a nurseand you are placed in a big ethical dielemma.

should have to right to choose abortion (Pro Choice). The definition of Pro Life is opposed of

What is Pro Life and Pro Choice
Over the years many nurses, men and women, have come face to face with situations regarding
ethical dilemmas one of which being the ever so popular argument of Pro choice vs. Pro life.
Going into a job in health care you are going to see things that may not sit well with you and
many students going into the nursing field have gone in with the mind set of being pro choice. In

Main Idea Essay
Hook:
Hiya!!! I m Dorothy, you may recognize me from The Wizard of Oz with a few slight changes,
like my glasses which help protect my eyes from the powerful glare of Emerald City and my
silver shoes which were red in the movie, so that people could see the full effect of technicolor. If
you haven t already guessed, I m the original Dorthy from the book and today I m going to tell
you the story of my creator, the author of The Wizard of Oz, L. Frank Baum.

Frank wrote poems and working with his brother Harry, put out a news journal called The Rose
Lawn Journal in which Frank s poems were published. Frank has some very unique interests, which
sometimes helped him write his stories. For example, one of Frank s interests was chicken
breeding and his first professionally published book was about chickens.
One night his children s wishes were overheard and it was to write his stories down on paper. He
started to do so, and there they became his first published children s book. He continued writing
mostly successful stories and soon enough, a passion developed. The Wizard of Oz was
published on Frank s forty fourth birthday and was an instant success. He wrote many more
books. Following the success of the musical of The Wizard of Oz, Frank was inspired to write
another Oz book. Although the second book was popular, it did not gain as much profit as the
first. The Baum s moved to Hollywood in the 1910 s where Frank continued to write several
books. None of the books did very well and despite the money that he had made from his previous
successes, Frank s poor investment skills meant that Frank eventually had to file for bankruptcy in

German War Economy
A war economy is reliant on three things man power, land and natural resources to function
effectively. Although there is no doubt of Germany s ground military forces capabilities the
question of the existing economy, infrastructure behind it and its effectiveness in driving this force
forward is what takes the focus of this essay. Social stability underpins these factors as a foundation
to which they can thrive and in this nature takes just as much importance if not more in a war
economies effectiveness.
The German war economy was never meant to be tested in any long conflict. The Schlieffen plan
in its design was meant to Blitz through Paris in six weeks. Where France s war economy could be

This is to say the longevity of Germany s war economy was always going to be unlikely and
therefore its effectiveness.
The idea of Total waris often used to sum up the German war effort at in terms of human lives
lost the effect was indeed total. However in the instance of every last capable man and women
being called to arms in the battlefield or to sustain the German war economy through
conscription and nationalistic propaganda which is often referenced. This was not the case with
only 40% of its annual output being directed into the war with the exception of 1917 where it
grew to 60% (Ritschl, 45). This is lower than Britain s 50 60% throughout the war (Ritschl, 45)
and dispels such rumours of total war from Germany at least on an economic level in 1914 1916.
Hence the effectiveness of the German war economy was severely impacted by the unwillingness
of Germany to sacrifice economy in other aspects of its country. The failures of the Schlieffen plan
made it hard to sell the idea of mass economic mobilisation to the Germans. Further exasperated by
their lack of industrialisation in agricultural sectors labour intensive agricultural systems soon left

Deviant behavior is socially constructed with the people in power defining what is expectable
and what is deviant. An example of deviance here in the United States can be found in our
freedom of religion. Our society was created with a strong Christian background; attending
church on Sundays is widely accepted and practiced among many of our citizens. Conversely,
state that you re a satanic worshiper and you will most definitely carry a social stigma. There are
other forms of deviant behavior that people can unwillingly acquire through a social stigma.
Being overweight can carry a stigma within our society because overweight people are assumed
to be weak in character. Being grossly unattractive can also carry an unwanted social stigma.
Social deviance is subject to different social interpretations and varies throughout different
cultures. What is considered deviant in one culture may be considered normal in another. Dog
fighting is an example of contrasting social deviance between the USA and Afghanistan. Getting

A Summary of The Scarlet Letter
Hester Prynne was born in England. She met her husband, Roger Chillingworth in Amsterdam,
Netherland and got married with him, although she didn t love him. Chillingworth sent her to
Boston to wait for his arrival, but she ended up by having a child with Authur Dimmesdale, who
was a minister of the town. So she was sent to the prison as she had committed adultery. One day,
she was emerged from the prison with the letter A on her breast, which is a sign of punishment
for her adultery commitment. She and her three month old daughter, Pearl were led to the
scaffold of pillory. At there, she was asked to tell who Pearl s father is, but she refused to tell.
Although Dimmesdale, Pearl s real father tried to convince her to tell everyone the truth, she
still refused. On the scaffold, she noticed her real husband, Roger Chillingworth. She was
shocked. When Hester returned to the prison, Chillingworth pretended to be a physician so that
he was able to enter the prison. He told her that he forgave her and asked her who Pearl s father
is, but she refused to tell him. So he told her that he will find out who the man is, but she had to

The Economic Aspects Associated With Globalization
Quoted by the Financial Times as the integration of economies, industries, markets, cultures and
policy making around the world , globalisation has thrived in recent years owing to developments
in communication, transportation and trade, accompanied by the enhancement and increased use
of information technology. Whilst at first glance this could be regarded as beneficial, it has
nonetheless provoked a number of high profile and often violent protests of late. Notably the
biggest anti globalisation demonstration ever experienced was in Seattle in 1999 involving 40,000
activists (BBC News). Globalisation has a multitude of different facets, ranging from the worlds of
research and health, to media and technology. This essay however, will look at the economic
aspects associated with globalizationand will seek to explore some of the reasons behind these
protests. Contrastingly, it will also look at the benefits of this increase in interconnectivity
examining how a rise in business wealth will allow others to share the benefits. One of the
obvious benefits of globalisation is the increase in free trade throughout the world and the affect
this has on consumers. Temin (1999) recognised that when the General Agreement on Tariffs and
Trade (GATT) was initiated, it proved to be the initial trigger in the reduction and removal of
barriers to trade. With increasing market access as a result of globalisation, Countries have taken
advantage of specialization and traded in particular

Taking a Look at the Original Sin
Original Sin In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth ex nihilo (out of nothing).
After God created the earth he made the adam out of the dust of the earth and by breathing into
his nostrils made the man living. Everything God created was Good, the man was also good but
only with woman was man complete. God created woman from the rib of Adam. Both Adam and
his partner Eve were both placed in the Garden of Edenwhere they were to live and eat from,
everything in the Garden except from the Tree of Knowledge, Good, and Evil. However one day
a serpent came to Eve and asked made her question the command of not eating from the tree. The
serpent told her that she could have knowledge and become like God if she ate from the tree. Both
Adam and Eveate from the tree and disobeyed God s divine command. God in turn cursed the
serpent as well as Adam and Eve. He told Adam that he would struggle and toil with the land and
also that he will return to the dust just as he was created from it. God had to punish Adam and Eve
for the disobedient act from where human corruption became apparent. After a British monk named
Pelagius fled Italy in 409 to escape an invasion and moved to Carthridge in North America, a clash
between this monk and Saint Augustine became inevitable. Both of these men who were teachers
and involved with the church had two completely opposite and opposing doctrines that were bound
to class. This inevitable debate finally occurred in what is known as the

Analysis Of A Man Walk On The Moon
When man first walked on the moon it was a very significant accomplishment for mankind,
especially the U.S.A., many people wrote articles or simply talked about and shared their opinions
on this incredible accomplishment. In the text that appeared in Times magazine titled, Man Takes
First Steps on the Moon, one can see how much of an accomplishment it was for the U.S and
many other people to have been able to walk on the moon. In the text ethos and logos are used a
number of times to be able to make a more possibly effective text on people reading the article
and be able to show how much of an immense deal this was for mankind. The following sentence is
the first sentence in the paragraph which says a lot about what the text is going to go towards, Neil
Armstrongbecame the first man to take a walk on the moon s surface early today. , seeing that the
first sentence is about how a man walked on the moon it shows most likely the rest of the text
will be based around or on this man s actions. The next sentence shows how many people,
including the president and pope expressed how it was a major accomplishment for mankind for
a man to walk on the moon and to make it back to Earth safely, At Castelgandolfo the Pope
greeted news of the lunar landing by exclaiming: Glory to God in the highest and peace on earth to
men of goodwill! , it makes sure to state it is the pope talking about the moon landing.

Causes Of The Trail Of Tears
This first hand account by John G Burnett, a member of the 2nd Regiment, 2nd Brigade,
Mounted Infantry, written in 1890 as a letter to his children which paints a descriptive picture of
the brutality of the Trail of Tears ( Two Accounts of the Trail of Tears ). The Trail of Tears was a
tragic event, but was unavoidable due to the circumstances of the time. Many factors preceding the
Trail of Tearsare catalysts for the tragic event. Dubbed the Trail of Tears, the United States Army
forced the CherokeeIndians from their home and made them move west of the Mississippi. There
were people who were for the Trail of Tears and those who were not. Some factors which made the
Trail of Tears inevitable was the growing population of America, the attitude of Americans toward
natives, and the president of the time. The American people called for military and political action
against the Indian tribes east of the Mississippi. President Andrew Jacksonanswered the call and on
May 28, 1830 signed the Indian Removal Act ( Trail of Tears Timeline ). Although this act was
only supposed to allow the negotiation of voluntary removal with the tribes, it made it inevitable
for the Indian removal. After Jackson s victory in 1832 all tribe leaders agreed to the act. The
Indian Removal Act was a catalyst for the abolishment of the traditional rights for the Indians. The
Indians had only two options: assimilate and concede to United States law or leave their homeland.

For this reason, the Prime Minister and his cabinet have to be from the dominant party or coalition

would not stand for it and instead refused to change her actions, resulting in her own death and the
death of others in the play. In Sophocles Antigone, Antigone proves herself to be a feminist by
pushing the boundaries of equality, challenging the word of men, and contradicting what was

The Giver Reflection
Imagine living in a world where everyone looks and acts almost exactly the same. Pain, fear,
war, and hatred has all been eliminated. This the society in the book The Giver by Lois Lowry. In
The Giver, the story is told by an eleven year old named Jonas. At the age of twelve, the children
receive their Assignments as a new adult of the community based on interests. Jonas receives the
Assignment as the Receiver of Memory. This is a highly honored Assignment. Jonas is different
from the others and with his Assignment, he learns things that he didn t know before. An old man
who he calls the Givertells him memories from the past, good and bad. By the things he learns
down the road, including that being released means being killed, Jonas tries and help a boy
named Gabriel. He is soon going to be released, so Jonas takes Gabriel and they leave their
community in hopes for a new town where the two of them can live because they are different
from the rest. In The Giver, Jonas image of a village was only a hallucination and they did not
escape the physical boundaries of their society. This is known because Jonas was freezing to death,
Jonas imagined the first memory that he saw, and what he saw in his mind was only an echo.
First, in The Giver, Jonas image of a village was only a hallucination and they did not escape the
physical boundaries of their society. Then it flickered suddenly, and he felt tiny tongues of heat
begin to creep across and into his frozen feet and legs. He felt his face begin to glow and the
tense, cold skin of his arms and hands relax. (Lowry 177). Jonas was escaping from his own
community. He was out in the freezing cold, starving, and about to reach death. The village was a
hallucination because he was trying to see a happy side of the situation. Jonas did not want to die,
but he knew he was, so he imagined the village as he was freezing to death. They end up, near
death, on a snow covered hill. At the summit, almost frozen and without hope, Jonas suddenly feels
joy and recognizes his whereabouts as the sledding hill of his dream. (Hanson). Jonas knows that
this is the end and he made himself think this hallucination because he knows that he wasn t
actually ever going to make it. In The

Cold War Influence in Latin America
Cold War Influence in Latin America
The United States and the Soviet Union competed against each other during the Cold War in the
second half of the 20th Century like a chess game, with the world as their chessboard and
countries as pawns in their game. For the Russians, a critical part of the chessboard was Cuba and
Latin America. The Russians believed that if they could align themselves with countries in the
western hemisphere, America s backyard , it would help the Soviet Union counter the strong
political influence and military presence America had in Europe, which made the Russians feel
threatened. The Soviet Union tried to align itself politically, militarily, and economically with as

the Cuban Missile Crisis. The Soviet Union s strategy, and the anticipated U.S. response to the
Russian strategy, is described in an October 19, 1962 telegram from Andrei Gromyko, Russia s
Foreign Minister, to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union [Virtual
Archive]. The Central Committee was the highest organization within communist Russia. Gromyko
seems to have written the telegram to inform the Central Committee that the Russian strategy in
aligning itself with Cuba seemed to be working. In the telegram Gromyko expressed his belief
that a USA military adventure against Cuba is almost impossible to imagine because of
assurances given to us that the USA has no plans for in Cuba (which undeniably commits them in
many respects) (Gromyko). Instead, Gromyko believed that the U.S. efforts would be to try
weakening Cuba by obstructing its economy, thinking that over the long term Russia would not be
able to continue supporting Cuba with foreign aid in order to offset U.S. economic sanctions
against Cuba (Gromyko). Gromyko s telegram accurately describes U.S. policy regarding Cuba
around the time of the Cuban Missile Crisis in October of 1962.

A Schizophrenic Mind By John Nash

A Schizophrenic Mind
In the movie, A Beautiful Mind, the main character John Nash, a genius mathematician, struggles
with the constant pressure he puts upon himself in regards to creating an original idea. This intense
stress and anxiety eventually develops into paranoid schizophrenia. Throughout the movie Nash
and his wife, Alicia, have to try and cope with his constant delusions. This movie, by going through
the life of John Nash, depicts his struggle with schizophrenia, the different treatments he has to
endeavor, and his development as a person which can be seen through Gardner s Theory of Multiple
Intelligences.
Once John arrives at Princeton he is still on the search for his original idea. The constant stress
that he brings upon himself in order to try and achieve his goal is starting to have negative
effects on him. This can be seen during the scene in which he meets his roommate Charles, who
is a lackadaisical character who doesn t have the same drive and passion as John does in regards
to achieving greatness. There is also another very important thing about Charles; he is not actually
real. Another scene that is relevant to this topic is the one where John Nash was in the courtyard
at Princeton arguing in front of everyone with Parcher in regards to his work for the government.
However, just like Charles, Parcher is not real and neither is Nash s job for the government, rather it

The Theory Of The World
The concept of the world is significant as one s interaction with the world could be either
demanding or perhaps obstructive (Giles, 1982), as an adolescent s interaction with the world are
formed around loss and defeat (Giles, 1982). This idea of defeat and loss can cause much trauma
for the adolescent, resulting in feelings of worthlessness, rejection and loneliness.
The last fold of the triad is the future . Beck (1967) alludes to the idea that a depressed individual
s thoughts about the future embody those of negative experiences (Giles, 1982). This notion can
be seen in the life of adolescents as they may have encountered a previous event in which they
have struggled with, perhaps in early childhood, now directly impacting their performance in
every day life and the future. The concept of the future can be hard to change or alter as the
depressed person may find it hard to look so far ahead or to work for change and improvement. A
sense of future outlooking can put a direct strain on the adolescent, potentially causing suicidal
thoughts due to feelings of hopelessness and a sense of pessimism (Beck, A. T., Weissman, A.,
Lester, D., Trexler, L., 1974). There can be unrealistic perceptions of the future as the individuals
may have previously fixated on the past and the present.
It has only been in recent years that the idea of depression in adolescence has been acknowledged.

An Analysis Of An Opera By Georges Bizet
Carmen is an opera by Georges Bizet that adeptly portrays the story of the same title by Prosper
MГ©rimГ©e. It is most well known for its two arias, Habanera and the Toreador Song. Through the
music, Bizet conveys many feelings through the portrayal the common man rather than the
aristocrats, which was revolutionary in the operatic world. Despite being composed in the Romantic
era, the subject matter of the operais more similar to the Realist movement of the 19th century.
Since the beginning of his life, Bizet showed precocious ability in musicand at the age of 10 was
admitted to the [Paris Conservatory of Music] ( Georges Bizet ). He continued to refine his musical
talent and ended up winning the Prix de Rome, which allowed him to spend... Show more content

The use of chromaticism in his music demonstrates mastery of compositional techniques.
Besides this, Bizet s dedication to learning all the techniques of Spanish music is incredible.
According to one source, Bizet had gone to some lengths to familiarize himself with the musical
sounds and forms of the region in which Carmen is set, and several of the best known portions
use rhythms he learned from those studies (Schwarm). This dedication allowed Bizet to master
the Spanish Habanera dance despite never having gone to Spain, helping to make it one of the
most well known pieces in operatic history. His mastery of musical techniques and his dedication
to his music allowed him to compose Carmen and refine it into a masterpiece. In addition to the
imaginative techniques, the plot of Carmen is revolutionary. Unlike other operas of its time, it
focuses on the lower class. Carmen is known for its defiantly sexual leading female character
and its non heroic portrayal of a wide slice of society ( Bizet, Georges ). As well as this, the
undeniable realism of the portrayal of the gypsies, smugglers, and factory workers was not well
received (Schwarm). This innovation, although originally not well received, helped it become one
of the five most performed operas in the world. Because opera in that time generally tendered to
the nobility and the sophisticated, having the focus being on the lower class did not end up well.

Policy Solutions for Jobless Poverty Essay
In the report A New Form of Social Dislocation in the Inner City Ghetto, William Julius Wilson
analyzes three research studies conducted in Chicago between 1986 and 1993. In these studies,
Wilson identifies a new type of poverty, which he coins jobless poverty. Jobless poverty represents
the growing number communities that are compromised of a high percentage of unemployed
individuals. These communities have the same recurrent themes of isolation in inner city ghettos
where the surrounding area is abandon, desolate or deserted of economic opportunities and
community benefits. In contrast to living in employed povertyor unemployed poverty in

The negative effects are on routine and discipline, marriage and the family, and the social
composition of neighborhoods. From these effects a cycle of jobless poverty is created, which
prevents the positive social progress of their education, family relationships, and community area.
The first negative effect is on routine and discipline. Work in the formal economy is characterized
by greater regularity and consistency in schedules and hours and therefore requires more
discipline. Work in the formal economy determines where you are going to be and when you are
going to be there. The absence of work in the formal economy therefore hinders planning in daily
life. The inability to predict when the next paycheck is coming or whether you will be unemployed
or busy in the upcoming weeks make it difficult to plan for the future. Both the parents and children
are adversely affected from the lack of routine and discipline. Children growing up in households
that do not have a family member with consistent employment in the formal economy fail to
develop the discipline habits associated with steady or stable employment (Wilson 161). These
habits include the attachment to a routine, recognition of hierarchy, a sense of personal efficacy
through the routine management of financial affairs, and the association of personal and material
rewards with dependability and responsibility. The lack of these habits continues to negatively
influence the children in school where they

Importance Of Independence Day In Kenya
Africa is an immense country, with one of the most diverse cultures. Kenya is a part of that
diversity. Being there are hundreds of tribes and languages in Kenya, one would say they each have
their own culture. Kenya gained its own independence, and celebrates with festivals and traditions.
Kenyan culture is vast: their language, foods, crafts, and religion is increasing throughout the
country. With Kenyabeing very underdeveloped, its education system is outstanding.
Gaining independence is a difficult task, but to gain it in a place like Africa, it is even harder.
When they finally achieved their independence, they created a holiday to celebrate this day in
history. Independence Day is associated with Dedan Kimathi, a Kenyan rebel leader who fought
the British in the 1950s ( Kenya Celebrates ). On December 12, 1963, Africa became independent
from Britain. A year later, in 1964, Kenya became its own republic. Which they refer to as Jamhuri
which means Republic in Swahili. This occasion is celebrated notably with speeches, cultural
performances, and at night, remarkable fireworks. This day of celebration unites Kenya ( Kenya
Holidays ). Eid Al Fitr is an Islamic celebration that usually takes place in September when the
sighting of the moon marks the end of the Muslim holy month of fasting during Ramadan. Eid
celebrations usually involve personal cleansing, communal prayers, charity donations, three full

Role Of Of The Jain Religion

RLST:1620003 Final Paper
The Role of Women in the Jain Religion
The Jain tradition was born in India, a small but powerful religion that grew up alongside
Buddhism and Hinduism. Like the other religions of India, Jainism teaches that when the body
dies, the soul (known to the Jain as a jiva) is reincarnated. Eventually, through living religious lives,
the soul will reach realization, the end of the process of death and rebirth. In his piece
Fundamentals of Jainism, Champat Rai Jain explains that, within the Jain tradition, the path of
salvation consists in Right Belief, Right Knowledge and Right Conduct, called the three Jewels (
Jain, 7.) One must know and understand the Jain tradition, believe what it is saying, and act in
accordance with those beliefs. In order to conduct his or herself properly, a person of the Jain
tradition must follow five vows. The most central statute of the Jain religion is the vow of Ahimsa,
which means non injury. The religion places great emphasis on the 4 other vows as well, Satya
(speaking only the truth) Asteya (taking only what is given,) Brahmacharya (chastity) and
Aparigraha (non possession.) (Kinsey, lecture 3/7.) The Jain religion, while similar in some ways to
Hinduism and Buddhism, is in many ways very unique. The respect that Jainism holds for all life is
entirely it s own. In his writing on Jainism, The Jain Tradition, Vasudha Narayana explains the
importance of the Jain saying Ahimsa

The Contributions Of Pablo Picasso And Picasso s Work Of Art
After our discussion in class and my group project on modern sculpture, I became interested in
understanding the periods work of art. Many of the pieces I got to see at LACMA amazed me
because seeing them in person and being able to view every detail up close really changed my way
of viewing modern sculpture. Before taking this course I was not very interested in art nor did I
appreciate it as much as I do know. I would like to learn more about the artists during this time
period, what inspired them to create these pieces, and why/how were these sculptures influential for
future artist. The artists who s art most interest me were Pablo Picassoand Auguste Rodin. I was
amazed to see that an artist such as Picasso was not only part of the modern sculpture period, but
also created distinct forms of art throughout his life. In fact, he incorporated cubism into his modern
sculptures. Rodin on the other hand, maintained traditional forms when creating his artwork. He
refused to change the use of traditional forms in his work. Although Rodin s art was highly
criticized throughout his life, his sculptures were highly influential. Both Picasso and Rodin were
extremely influential throughout their lives, and created sculptures during the 19th century, which
contributed to the modern sculpture period.
While many artists focus on one form of art throughout their career, Picasso created distinct forms
of art. This is why Picasso is a well known and highly respected. Picasso

Acute Human Immunodeficiency Virus ( Hiv ) Infection
Acute Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection is the small period of time after a person
has been exposed to HIV and before they have seroconverted. Seroconversion is the process in
which the body starts to create antibodies to fight the HIV virus (Pietrangelo, 2013). During this
period of time, which is usually a few days, the virus replicates rapidly. The rapid replication results
in extremely high amounts of HIVin the blood because the body has not had time to respond to
the infection. As the viral load increases more CD4 white cells are destroyed. CD4 cells are a
responsible in protecting the body from infection. When these cells are destroyed they no longer are

Signs/symptoms of Acute HIV Infection Including H P
Not all patients with HIV will have signs or symptoms during the acute infection phase. If a
patient is having symptoms they can often times think that they have the flu. Acute HIV infection
symptoms can show up 2 4 weeks after exposure and last from a few days to several weeks
(Cherney, 2014). If they are exhibiting symptoms they may present as having a fever, swollen
lymph nodes, skin rashes, myalgia, diarrhea, oral ulcers or thrush, and fatigue. Lab results may also
show leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, or an elevation in transaminase (DHHS, 2015). Differential
diagnoses include the flu or Epstein Barr Virus since these also present with similar symptoms.
A thorough health history must be taken with patients before an exam in order to identify risk
behavior. Important things to ask about are sexual history, partners and possible exposures, any
drug use (especially intravenously), and any current STI s (HRSA, 2014). Upon physical exam
things to look for or may see with an acute HIV infection would be ecchymosis, purpura, petechiae,
Kaposi sarcoma, lymphadenopathy, oral candidiasis, or hepatosplenomegaly (Aberg et al., 2014).

The goal of the majority of corporations, primarily the small businesses, is the continuous
improvements in the manner in which they operate every year. This is a difficult feat many
business owners find to be very difficult and challenging. The life of a small business owner is one
filled with many challenges, both big and small. Many factors will determine the levels of
confidence and success that a small businesswill experience. The small businessoptimism index
consists of results compiled by a survey of small business owners, conducted on a monthly basis
by the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB). The surveys components are the result
of ten factors that affect the success and progress of every business owner. These factors include:
plans to increase employment, plans to make capital outlays, plans to increase inventories, expect
economy to improve, expect real sales higher, current inventory, current job openings, expected
credit conditions, now a good time to expand, and earnings trend. (MyPivots, 2010). Those factors
assist the NFIB in analyzing and predicting a small businesses potential vitality, and their influence
on the stock market. Although these factors seem to be comprehensive, many other factors also
exist that could go overlooked which could be included and aide in presenting a much more
comprehensive view for the Optimism s report. Some of those factors will be focused on are
consumer confidence, interest rates and inflation.

  • 2. Analyzing The Origins Of The Dutch Armies And Its First... Countermarching is the military maneuver in which rows of infantry take turns advancing and firing upon an enemy, only to be replaced by the rank behind them which had already reloaded. The maneuver would allow ranks of infantry to establish a constant base of fire while involving a greater proportion of rifle bearing soldiers at a single given time. The deadly practice saw its first applications in late 16th centuryJapan and later developed independently in the midst of the Dutch Revolt in Western Europe. Western European countermarch stemmed from humble and classical origins, but would grow to be the status quo used by every major militarypower in Europe by the end of the 17th century. To fully grasp the importance of this development,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the siege of Middleburg in 1572, the Spanish implemented water defenses that prevented any the effective use of siege equipment by the Dutch. The Spanish also exploited their competitive advantage in open combat away from Dutch waterways, and in open combat crushed Louis of Nassau s army at Mook on the 14th of April 1574. Fighting between the army of Flanders, which had just under 100,000 men by the end of 1580. The combination of Dutch Naval superiority and the Army of Flanders superiority on the ground meant that no meaningful victory could be achieved. The wars remained costly for both governments with the Spanish defaulting on war debts in 1575, but with the dutch unable to exploit their sudden advantage because of a tired and ineffective military. In order to finally reunite the low countries, newly appointed Maurice of Nassau would have to embark on a series of military reforms that could see influence expanded into the landlocked south, away from the comfort of the ocean and waterways of the north. Early military reformers had a great deal of difficulty reforming the status quo, as military generals and members of the intellectual community demonstrated a great deal of inertia. As military thinkers and philosophers began to explore newly translated ancient texts, they ran into a great deal of intellectual backlash. In a particularly potent example, Thomas Digges, an Englishmen who served in the armies of the Dutch republic, writes in his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Guantanamo Bay Is Not Cool Guantanamo Bay is Not Cool America is better off if Guantanamo Bay was shut down. The Politics of GuantГЎnamo. The Economist. The Economist Newspaper, 18 Oct. 2014. Web. Nov. 2015.1 President Obama called for Guantanamo Bay to be shut down back in 2009. It is now 2015 and Guantanamo Bay is still open and still holding many types of prisoners. Guantanamo Bay mainly holds suspected terrorists, but also holds other types of prisoners. Prisoners being held captive have been imprisoned and have yet to have a trial. In other words, some are just being held captive under suspicion. Would America be better off if Guantanamo Bay was closed and those who have been imprisoned either transferred to another prison or essentially freed? Guantanamo Bay opened for its main purpose in late 2001 shortly after the United States went to Afghanistan after the September 11 attacks2. Since 2001, Guantanamo Bay has held around 800 people. 2002 was when the first suspected terrorist was imprisoned and since then the numbers have been slowly decreasing. Slowly prisoners have been found innocent or have had lack of evidence to prove that they are guilty, but are still being held captive.3 There are a few reasons as to why those who have been cleared to be transferred or released but have not been. One reason is that those who have been in Guantanamo Bay for years have no place to go. They have been held captive for so long that their home country do not want them back. Another reason is if their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Role Of Exceptional Leaders During The New Republic Era Exceptional leaders are key to the development of new countries. This was especially true during the New Republic Era, spanning from the late 1700s to the early 1800s, in which the first five presidents worked to lead the fragile, weak nation from infancy into a developed nation with a great infrastructure. George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and James Monroe all guided the nation using advantageous foreign and domestic policies toward a brighter, more prosperous nation. George Washington was the first leader to save the nation from debt and unnecessary conflict with other nations. He instituted a series of tariffs and taxes during the first years of his presidency, 1790 to 1791, to help lift the burden of debt off of the nation s back. It showed that George Washington cared about the new nation and used his leadership to try to help solve the nation s many problems. George Washington created a policy of neutrality on April 22, 1793, called the Neutrality Proclamation because he knew the US was too young and too unprepared to fight in any war. It saved the United States from having to be included in impractical, inconclusive European wars that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thomas Jefferson purchased the Louisiana Territory for 15 million dollars on May 2, 1803, from Napoleon. His foresight helped boost the economy of the US and its expansion because the US could use the Mississippi River to transport the abundant resources of the Louisiana Territory to the industrial centers in the eastern states and then to the European market. Jefferson undertook his responsibility of showing America s power by engaging in the Tripoli Wars which showed European powers that the US was a fighting force not to be reckoned with. • 5. The Chesapeake Bay And The Bay The Chesapeake Bay, which derives from the Algonquin word Chesepiooc meaning great shellfish bay , has been around for a very long time. Approximately 35 million years ago, a rare bolide (a comet or asteroid like object) hit what is now the lower tip of the Delmarva Peninsula, creating a 55 mile wide crater. The bolide created what geologists call the Exmore Crater, which they believe was as large as Rhode Island and as deep as the Grand Canyon. Although this bolide did not create the Chesapeake Bay, it helped determine that a bay would eventually be located there. Today, the Chesapeake Bay stretches from Havre de Grace, Marylandto Norfolk Virginia. The Bay is approximately 200 miles long, up to 35 miles wide, and has an average ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Bay s salinity varies widely from season to season and from year to year, depending on the amount of fresh water flowing from its rivers. The Bay tends to be fresher in spring, when snow melts and heavy rainstorms frequently fall. During the drier months, the Bay is usually saltier. Salinity also increases with depth. Fresh water remains at the surface because it is less dense than salt water. The water on the Bay s eastern shore tends to be saltier than the water on the western side. This is due to two factors; most fresh water enters the Bay from its northern and western tributaries, and The Coriolis Force, a phenomenon caused by the earth s rotation, pushes flowing water in the Northern Hemisphere to the right, causing saltier water to move up the Bay veers toward the eastern shore. The Chesapeake Bay is the largest estuary in the United States. About half of the Bay s water volume comes from salt water from the Atlantic Ocean. The other half drains into the Bay from its enormous 64,000 square mile watershed. Estuaries are among the most productive environments on earth, creating more organic matter each year than similarly sized forests and agricultural areas. Estuaries also provide diverse habitats for wildlife and aquatic life, protect our communities against flooding, reduce pollution of waterways, and support local economies through commercial and recreational activities. The Economic Aspects Associated With Globalization Quoted by the Financial Times as the integration of economies, industries, markets, cultures and policy making around the world , globalisation has thrived in recent years owing to developments in communication, transportation and trade, accompanied by the enhancement and increased use of information technology. Whilst at first glance this could be regarded as beneficial, it has nonetheless provoked a number of high profile and often violent protests of late. Notably the biggest anti globalisation demonstration ever experienced was in Seattle in 1999 involving 40,000 activists (BBC News). Globalisation has a multitude of different facets, ranging from the worlds of research and health, to media and technology. This essay however, will look at the economic aspects associated with globalizationand will seek to explore some of the reasons behind these protests. Contrastingly, it will also look at the benefits of this increase in interconnectivity examining how a rise in business wealth will allow others to share the benefits. One of the obvious benefits of globalisation is the increase in free trade throughout the world and the affect this has on consumers. The Russians believed that if they could align themselves with countries in the western hemisphere, America s backyard , it would help the Soviet Union counter the strong political influence and military presence America had in Europe, which made the Russians feel threatened. The Soviet Union tried to align itself politically, militarily, and economically with as many Latin American countries as it could. In ... Cuba is the country best known for being at the center of the Cold Warconflict between the U.S. and Russia because of the Cuban Missile Crisis. The Soviet Union s strategy, and the anticipated U.S. response to the Russian strategy, is described in an October 19, 1962 telegram from Andrei Gromyko, Russia s Foreign Minister, to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union [Virtual Archive]. The Central Committee was the highest organization within communist Russia. Gromyko seems to have written the telegram to inform the Central Committee that the Russian strategy in aligning itself with Cuba seemed to be working. In the telegram Gromyko expressed his belief that a USA military adventure against Cuba is almost impossible to imagine because of assurances given to us that the USA has no plans for in Cuba (which undeniably commits them in many respects) (Gromyko). Instead, Gromyko believed that the U.S. efforts would be to try weakening Cuba by obstructing its economy, thinking that over the long term Russia would not be able to continue supporting Cuba with foreign aid in order to offset U.S. economic sanctions against Cuba (Gromyko). Gromyko s telegram accurately describes U.S. policy regarding Cuba around the time of the Cuban Missile Crisis in October of 1962. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. The Theory Of The World The concept of the world is significant as one s interaction with the world could be either demanding or perhaps obstructive (Giles, 1982), as an adolescent s interaction with the world are formed around loss and defeat (Giles, 1982). This idea of defeat and loss can cause much trauma for the adolescent, resulting in feelings of worthlessness, rejection and loneliness. The last fold of the triad is the future . Beck (1967) alludes to the idea that a depressed individual s thoughts about the future embody those of negative experiences (Giles, 1982). This notion can be seen in the life of adolescents as they may have encountered a previous event in which they have struggled with, perhaps in early childhood, now directly impacting their performance in every day life and the future. The concept of the future can be hard to change or alter as the depressed person may find it hard to look so far ahead or to work for change and improvement. A sense of future outlooking can put a direct strain on the adolescent, potentially causing suicidal thoughts due to feelings of hopelessness and a sense of pessimism (Beck, A. T., Weissman, A., Lester, D., Trexler, L., 1974). There can be unrealistic perceptions of the future as the individuals may have previously fixated on the past and the present. It has only been in recent years that the idea of depression in adolescence has been acknowledged. Anna Freud is seen as a pioneer in her own right when compared to her father Sigmund ... • 34. An Analysis Of An Opera By Georges Bizet Carmen is an opera by Georges Bizet that adeptly portrays the story of the same title by Prosper MГ©rimГ©e. It is most well known for its two arias, Habanera and the Toreador Song. Through the music, Bizet conveys many feelings through the portrayal the common man rather than the aristocrats, which was revolutionary in the operatic world. Despite being composed in the Romantic era, the subject matter of the operais more similar to the Realist movement of the 19th century. Since the beginning of his life, Bizet showed precocious ability in musicand at the age of 10 was admitted to the [Paris Conservatory of Music] ( Georges Bizet ). He continued to refine his musical talent and ended up winning the Prix de Rome, which allowed him to spend... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The use of chromaticism in his music demonstrates mastery of compositional techniques. Besides this, Bizet s dedication to learning all the techniques of Spanish music is incredible. According to one source, Bizet had gone to some lengths to familiarize himself with the musical sounds and forms of the region in which Carmen is set, and several of the best known portions use rhythms he learned from those studies (Schwarm). This dedication allowed Bizet to master the Spanish Habanera dance despite never having gone to Spain, helping to make it one of the most well known pieces in operatic history. His mastery of musical techniques and his dedication to his music allowed him to compose Carmen and refine it into a masterpiece. In addition to the imaginative techniques, the plot of Carmen is revolutionary. Unlike other operas of its time, it focuses on the lower class. Carmen is known for its defiantly sexual leading female character and its non heroic portrayal of a wide slice of society ( Bizet, Georges ). As well as this, the undeniable realism of the portrayal of the gypsies, smugglers, and factory workers was not well received (Schwarm). This innovation, although originally not well received, helped it become one of the five most performed operas in the world. Because opera in that time generally tendered to the nobility and the sophisticated, having the focus being on the lower class did not end up well. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Policy Solutions for Jobless Poverty Essay In the report A New Form of Social Dislocation in the Inner City Ghetto, William Julius Wilson analyzes three research studies conducted in Chicago between 1986 and 1993. In these studies, Wilson identifies a new type of poverty, which he coins jobless poverty. Jobless poverty represents the growing number communities that are compromised of a high percentage of unemployed individuals. These communities have the same recurrent themes of isolation in inner city ghettos where the surrounding area is abandon, desolate or deserted of economic opportunities and community benefits. The negative effects are on routine and discipline, marriage and the family, and the social composition of neighborhoods. From these effects a cycle of jobless poverty is created, which prevents the positive social progress of their education, family relationships, and community area. The first negative effect is on routine and discipline. Work in the formal economy is characterized by greater regularity and consistency in schedules and hours and therefore requires more discipline. Work in the formal economy determines where you are going to be and when you are going to be there. The absence of work in the formal economy therefore hinders planning in daily life. The inability to predict when the next paycheck is coming or whether you will be unemployed or busy in the upcoming weeks make it difficult to plan for the future. Both the parents and children are adversely affected from the lack of routine and discipline. Children growing up in households that do not have a family member with consistent employment in the formal economy fail to develop the discipline habits associated with steady or stable employment (Wilson 161). These habits include the attachment to a routine, recognition of hierarchy, a sense of personal efficacy through the routine management of financial affairs, and the association of personal and material rewards with dependability and responsibility. The lack of these habits continues to negatively influence the children in school where they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Role Of Of The Jain Religion Shoshana Pollack April 19 2015 RLST:1620003 Final Paper The Role of Women in the Jain Religion The Jain tradition was born in India, a small but powerful religion that grew up alongside Buddhism and Hinduism. Like the other religions of India, Jainism teaches that when the body dies, the soul (known to the Jain as a jiva) is reincarnated. Eventually, through living religious lives, the soul will reach realization, the end of the process of death and rebirth. In his piece Fundamentals of Jainism, Champat Rai Jain explains that, within the Jain tradition, the path of salvation consists in Right Belief, Right Knowledge and Right Conduct, called the three Jewels ( Jain, 7.) One must know and understand the Jain tradition, believe what it is saying, and act in accordance with those beliefs. In order to conduct his or herself properly, a person of the Jain tradition must follow five vows. The most central statute of the Jain religion is the vow of Ahimsa, which means non injury. The religion places great emphasis on the 4 other vows as well, Satya (speaking only the truth) Asteya (taking only what is given,) Brahmacharya (chastity) and Aparigraha (non possession.) (Kinsey, lecture 3/7.) The Jain religion, while similar in some ways to Hinduism and Buddhism, is in many ways very unique. The respect that Jainism holds for all life is entirely it s own. In his writing on Jainism, The Jain Tradition, Vasudha Narayana explains the importance of the Jain saying Ahimsa ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In just a few hours, we got a glimpse of the incredible amount of religious diversity present in Winston Salem. Over the past ten years, Forsyth County has become increasingly diverse as businesses flock to the triad, bringing people from all over the country and the world into one community. This population boom has changed the religious landscape of Winston Salem. As different religions continue to come together, it becomes increasingly necessary for people to understand their neighbors in order to create a cohesive society. This relationship would allow high school teachers to learn about teaching religion objectively while also giving them background knowledge and a mentor to contact if questions should arise. In order to alleviate parental concerns, educators should be transparent about course material. Also, teachers should be informed of the laws that delineate the appropriate way to teach religion in public high schools. The Contributions Of Pablo Picasso And Picasso s Work Of Art After our discussion in class and my group project on modern sculpture, I became interested in understanding the periods work of art. Many of the pieces I got to see at LACMA amazed me because seeing them in person and being able to view every detail up close really changed my way of viewing modern sculpture. Before taking this course I was not very interested in art nor did I appreciate it as much as I do know. I would like to learn more about the artists during this time period, what inspired them to create these pieces, and why/how were these sculptures influential for future artist. The artists who s art most interest me were Pablo Picassoand Auguste Rodin. I was amazed to see that an artist such as Picasso was not only part of the modern sculpture period, but also created distinct forms of art throughout his life. In fact, he incorporated cubism into his modern sculptures. Rodin on the other hand, maintained traditional forms when creating his artwork. He refused to change the use of traditional forms in his work. Although Rodin s art was highly criticized throughout his life, his sculptures were highly influential. Both Picasso and Rodin were extremely influential throughout their lives, and created sculptures during the 19th century, which contributed to the modern sculpture period. While many artists focus on one form of art throughout their career, Picasso created distinct forms of art. This is why Picasso is a well known and highly respected. Picasso ... • 40. Acute Human Immunodeficiency Virus ( Hiv ) Infection Acute Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection is the small period of time after a person has been exposed to HIV and before they have seroconverted. Seroconversion is the process in which the body starts to create antibodies to fight the HIV virus (Pietrangelo, 2013). During this period of time, which is usually a few days, the virus replicates rapidly. The rapid replication results in extremely high amounts of HIVin the blood because the body has not had time to respond to the infection. As the viral load increases more CD4 white cells are destroyed. CD4 cells are a responsible in protecting the body from infection. When these cells are destroyed they no longer are able to adequately activate the body s immune system. (AIDS.GOV).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
