Use Of Load Bearing Test For An Energy Efficient Model Essay
(a)The existing walk in cooler inside FCI food service is more than 70 years old. The R Value
insulation on the walls are very poor, parts are not available due to the age for repairs. Needs to be
replaced with an energy efficient model.
(b) Due to the age, steam and condensate lines inside the buried utility tunnel are leaking, flooding the
channel, cracking up the concrete sidewalks and toilets inside the CMS building. This buried tunnel
feeds steam from the Unicor building to the CMS. It is affecting the CMS heat. These lines need to be
replaced
(c) Due to the age, the condensate return pump for the Roll call room is not working, creating steam
and condensate leak in the room. No parts are available to repair the pump. The pump needs to be
replaced.
(d) The concrete ceiling slabs inside the tunnel, underneath the AW Complex/ Work Gate area (20
Lx10 W) is found weak. Load bearing test has been conducted by a structural engineer, recommended
to chip the broken concrete and apply new concrete. He also suggests shoring up this area with iron
beams/plates and supports
(e) The condensate pumping system underneath the Unicor factory is more than 25 years old, not
working. Parts are not available for repairs. This complete unit should be replaced (including the tank,
pumps and accessories) to save energy.
This project will replace the cooler in the Food Service, will replace the steam lines, Condensate
pumps with tank and reinforce the tunnel. Five buildings will involve in

Family Nursing Theory Paper
All health care providers are familiar or have some idea of what family focused care entails. Family
focused care can be practiced in any settings in healthcare, and nurses are familiar with this concept as
this strong theory based teaching is emphasized throughout the nursing curriculum. With the trend of
health care delivery shifting towards home based or community setting, it is now more than ever
important for nurses and advance practice nurses (APN) to incorporate family nursing practice for
improved outcomes for the patient and their families. This paper will discuss one of the many family
nursing theory and its impact on the family nursing practice now and in the future.

When the validity and reliability of this tool is replicated and verified thru further wide scale studies,
then this scale can be used as an evaluation tool for the effectiveness of an intervention that aims on
improving routine health behaviors. In addition, Tyler and Horner (2008) used Denham s FHM as a
construct for their collaborative negotiation model. This model describes a process in promoting
health and reducing health risk factors in primary care setting by (1) identifying factors that affect
individual health and risk status, (2) using family centered intervention to negotiate behavior change
and (3) measuring it using health indicators that reflect the outcomes of the provider family
interaction. Applying the FHM in the nursing practice will not only make the nurse or APN a more
effective healthcare provider, it will provide a more holistic benefit for the individual and family
health. FHM in nursing practice encourages family in focusing on the well being of the individuals
through health promotion and prevention rather than focus on illness and disease alleviated solely thru
treatment and medicines. Furthermore, nurses using the FHM will be able to assist family needs by
collaborating with family to develop useful interventions that is within the context of the existing

Essay On Elder Abuse
Within the next 20 years the population of older adults will likely outnumber the population of
children in this country. The combination of this swiftly increasing population and the latest
assessments of the increasing rate of established cases of elder abuse suggest that the issue of elder
abuse will continue to grow without significant means for deterrence and intermediation. Due to age
related declines in cognitive functioning and other vulnerabilities such as difficulties with mobility,
isolation, medication, and dependence, older adults are uniquely attractive to criminal predators
(Lindberg, Sabatino, Blancato, 2011). Elder financial exploitation is an especially cumbersome matter
to address because of difficulties in identifying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It has earmarked $777 million over a four year span to increase aid to elder victim services such as
Adult Protective Services and Forensic Centers. The EJA also establishes an Elder Justice
Coordinating Council and a National Advisory Board (Dong, 2012). According to Kohl, Sanders, and
Blumenthal (2012) To date, however, major steps forward in national policy and strategy on elder
abuse have not been taken, in part because Congress has failed to provide sufficient funding (p. 107).
There has been slight progress on the issue with the initiation of a 5.5 million stipend to states to test
pilot programs for vulnerable populations of older adults (Kohl, et al., 2012).
The addition of the Elder Justice Act brings some hope for long term attention to the issue of elder
abuse. This country is extremely unprepared for the magnitude of issues that will erupt with the
growth of the older population. Healthcare services, community based and home based services, and
long term care facilities are going to be seriously taxed over the next 20 years. It is necessary to
address elder abuse prevention, education, and intervention thoroughly in the short term while
considerations are somewhat manageable. As stated by Greenlee (2012), This is not solely a federal
issue, this is a national crisis (p. 8). If we consider the protection of older adults as a national
responsibility, it is clear that advocacy and

Rhetorical Strategies In Saint Joan, By George Bernard Shaw
Freedom of thinking, a different way of seeing things can be hard for some. In George Bernard Shaw s
Saint Joan, the Inquisitor gives a powerful speech, which demonizes Joan and her heresy. The
Inquisitor uses his speech to persuade the church of Joan of the arc s heresy. In his entreaty, he uses
many rhetorical strategies such as ethos, pathos, and logos. He even uses similes and analogies to
make his case. The Inquisitor keeps an intense and serious tone throughout the speech, while the
situation being a grave one. He makes the plea a dying matter as if Joan killed someone. The
Inquisitor begins his plea with a grave tone and starting the rhetorical appeal of ethos to legitimize his
view of the grave matter. In lines 1 5 he states If you had seen what I have seen of heresy, you would
not think it a light thing even in its most apparently harmless and even lovable and pious origins. .
Validating that he has dealt with heresy in a great matter, the Inquisitor hasn t seen this only once
though, he states again in line 16 I have seen this again and again . He gives the audience the appeal to
ethos, the audience now can believe what he is talking about because of his experience. He has now
led the audience to be able to trust him. Now the Inquisitor, in his prestigious position, begins to
persuade the audience with the horrors and legit wickedness of heresy. In lines 17 27 he gives a great
deal of pathos and some aggressive diction, he expresses Heresy ... ends

Mermaid
SK DOKTOR SULAIMAN, 73000, TAMPIN, N.S.
Honourable judges, teaches and my fellow friends, good morning to all of you. Today I am going to
tell a story about Little Mermaid with Soul . Long long time ago...
In the city of Palermo, on the island of Sicily, there lived a poor fisherman.
He was so poor, he didn t even own a boat. Every day he carried his net down to the sea, tossed it into
the water and pulled it up at the end of the day.
One day when he pulled in the net he saw something sparkling. At first he thought it was a doll. But he
looked closer, he saw that it was a little mermaid, only two or three feet long.
At first he was frightened and wanted to throw her back in the water. He was a superstitious man, like

What would they say about Marina which was what they named the little mermaid because she came
from the sea. You can t just bring a mermaid out into the streets and say, Meet the new member of the
family.
The fisherman thought and thought. Finally, he said, I know. We ll put her in a little cart and cover her
tail with a blanket and say she s the poor crippled daughter of some cousins from Messina, which is
another city in Sicily.
And that s what they did. Marina was fascinated.
Marina had never been happier in her entire life, not even when she lived in the sea. Now she lives
happily with the fisherman and his family. That s the end of the story. Thank

Crystal Violet Kinetics
Purpose:
The purpose of this experiment was studying the reaction rate of crystal violet with NaOH by
observing the concentration using the MicroLAB colorimeter, monitoring how the reactant
concentration affects reaction rate constant, determining the reaction order, and to calculate the
reaction pseudo rate constants and the true value rate constant. The rate of the reaction of crystal violet
with NaOH is given by the generalized rate law, rate = k [OH ]x [CV]y where k is the rate constant for
crystal violet and CV is crystal violet, C25H30N3+. Where x and y are the reaction orders. The
equation can be rewritten as:
Eq.1 k = k[OH ]x
Since solutions of crystal violet obey Beer s law, absorptivity can be calculated using the following
equation:
Eq.2 At = ε l[CV]t
Where A is the initial absorbance when the experiment first starts, l is the path length of the cuvette
(2.54 cm), and [CV]t is the initial concentration of crystal violet.
Procedure:
Determination of Reaction Order in Crystal Violet
MicroLAB Kinetics program was opened, then the colorimeter was calibrated to a 100% transmission
by filling a marked, clean, clear cuvette, about ¾ full of deionized water. The cuvette was wiped with
a Kimwipe from the outside before putting it in the colorimeter. The cuvette was inserted in the
chamber, then the cap was closed, and the Read Blank button was clicked to start the calibration.

Gender Roles In The Secret Life Of Bees
Mothers and fathers play different roles in society to provide a balance of qualities as they nurture
their children to become well mannered and independent adults. Although both parents play a
prominent role in shaping their daughter s character and personalities, mothers predominantly provide
her with protection, emotional support, and a sense of reliance because they share feminine qualities.
The novel, The Secret Life of Bees, illustrates the difficulties that young girl faces from growing up
without a mother. Fourteen year old Lily Owens is often abused by her ignorant father, whom she calls
T. Ray, and blamed for killing her mother. Lily s closest motherly figure during this time is Rosaleen,
her family housekeeper. Lily s lack of motherly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Lily and Rosaleen start to live with the Boatwright family, Lily quickly realizes how
compassionate they are. Lily idolizes their positivity and support, which makes them clear
representations of motherly figures for her. When August sends Lily to the bee yard for the first time,
she gives Lily great advice, to give the bees love. After all, she says, every little thing wants to be
loved (92). This signifies not only that bees want appreciation, but so do humans. This also implies
that if someone endures a long time without support, they become hard and sting. Ever since Lily was
four years old, she has seen her father agitated and forceful towards her. T. Ray s actions prove that he
is an ill equipped father for a teenager. By the end of the novel, Lily validates that living with the
Boatwrights not only gave her one caring authority figure but several amazing mothers. Therefore,
Lily needs positive mother figures to feel more worthy after she struggles for almost a decade.
Evidently, a mother figure would be affectionate to Lily no matter what she does or

Auditing Self Regulation and Government Regulation
Over the years the accounting profession has been subject to various forms of oversight with varying
degrees of success. Nevertheless, it used to be self regulating. But a series of financial scandals
involving once prominent companies such as Enron, WorldCom and Parmalat lead the authorities to
consider whether the accounting profession s self regulatory oversight system was appropriate to meet
the necessary objectives. These corporate failures had shown that the self regulatory system did not
produce credible results and had the potential to undermine investor confidence in the integrity of the
securities markets (The Treasury, 2006). As a consequence a number of countries have reviewed their
arrangements for independent oversight of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The only caveat is that this regulation needs to be efficient and effective. Whatever regulatory
framework is used, be it administered by the profession or government, it must give the regulator
appropriate incentives to act in the public interest. Regulators must have a clear, overarching purpose
and the ability to resist any moves towards regulation that are self interested or motivated by special
interest groups. Serving the public interest means having regulations that achieve their aim of being
effective and efficient without imposing unnecessary costs. The benefits of the regulation that is, its
effectiveness in protecting the public interest must exceed its costs. The International Organization of
Securities Commissions (IOSCO) has undertaken work in this area and has developed a series of
principles for regulators. These principles hold that: The responsibilities of the regulator should be
clear and objectively stated; The regulator should be operationally independent and accountable in the
exercise of its functions and powers; The regulator should have adequate powers, proper resources and
the capacity to perform its functions and exercise its powers; The regulator should adopt clear and
consistent regulatory processes; and The staff of the regulator should observe the highest professional

Food Hormones and the Onset of Early Puberty
Hormones found in food is causing early puberty in adolescents. In recent news article published by
NBC News an eight year old girl started developing acne and breast. Her parents didn t know how to
cope with their daughter maturing at such an early age so they decided to take her to the doctor. There
the little girl was diagnosed with early puberty and had to be treated with drug implants to slow down
her sudden growth. Recent studies have shown that meat industry animals injected with synthetic
growth hormones such as Zeranol, Trenbolone, and Melengestrol that leads to negatives effects to the
people that consume the foods that the animals produce. Some of these hormones found in animals
can throw off the natural chemical balance and affect your hormones. If children are consuming these
foods with added hormones their natural balance may be thrown off which causes them to endure
early puberty. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) steroid implants used for
animal growth are healthy for the animals and humans who eat the meat produced from the
slaughtered animals. The FDA reports People are not at risk from eating food from animals treated
with these drugs because the amount of additional hormone following drug treatment is very small
compared with the amount of natural hormones that are normally found in the meat of untreated
animals and that are naturally produced in the human body. (par.3) If people are not at risk then why

Mythological References in Hamlet Essay
Mythological References in Hamlet
What s in a name? Hamlet s good friend and confidant Horatio is doomed by the etymology of his
nomenclature to give good speech. Shakespeare has gifted Horatio with an elegant lucidty that, when
inspected closely, enables the reader to better comprehend the nature of the play; one of his first
addresses is key in setting the tone of what James Joyce called the grave and constant in human
suffering (Campbell 8). This is also a principal theme of classical mythology, and to fully understand
Hamlet as a tragic hero, a comprehension of the mythological references at the beginning of the play
must be foremost in the reader s mind. These metaphoric intimations of tragedy; leaked in Hamlet s

A fascinating event like an eclipse was used to explain away strange behavior or portend odd goings
on. It is believed that Hamlet was written no earlier than 1598. Around this time, Copernicus concept
of a heliocentric universe was gaining strong popularity. It is possible that Shakespeare might have
been influenced by this idea; since he play is thought to be set around 1200, it is more likely that a
subconscious consignment of information passed from Shakespeare s pen into Horatio s intellect. With
a potential new perception of how the sun and moon and earth move in their orbits and how those
movements affect things like the tides, Horatio might have equated this with motions and
circumstances affecting people and sets up his metaphor to perform a double duty. One, he views the
visitation of King Hamlet s host as precurse to fierce events, almost like the calm before the
storm(within Neptune s empire). Something bad is going to happen: anytime you see a ghost it is
usually bad news. Two, he uses the phrase Disasters in the sun as a kind of prologue like epithet for
Hamlet s light and to express the magnitude of the omen coming on. The sun has always been the

Drumming Wolf Spider
The Wolf spider belongs to the Lycosidae family. They are a part of the Arthropod phylum as they are
characterized by having an exoskeleton, coelom, an open circulatory system and body segments with
jointed appendages. Arthropods evolved by substituting the coelom for a protective exoskeleton. It
was not entirely lost, but still remains in some parts of the reproductive and excretory systems.
(Ruppert et al. 2004) Lycosidae are in the Araneae order as they are arthropods with four pairs of legs
with chelicerae that contains venomous glands. (Ruppert et al. 2004)

The Lycosidae uses its chelicerae to hold its prey before using its venomous fangs into paralysing it.
(Nicholas, 2011) Similarly, snakes inject venom quickly into its prey and waits for it to immobilise
before digesting it, this adaptation prevents preys from escaping and increases its chance of survival.
The Wolf spider and Nursery web spider (Pisauridae) are closely related and both exhibit similar but
different characteristics which highlights the divergences of the species. They both have eight eyes
which puts them in the superfamily Lycosoidea, the Pisauridae has similar sized eyes whilst the wolf
spider has two big eyes at the front and six smaller ones. Their maternal care is also alike; the wolf
spider carries its egg sac from its spinnerets for 4 6 weeks whilst Pisauridae carries its egg sacs in their
chelicerae for 2 3 weeks before building a protective tent to safe guard them in. (Nicholas, 2011).
Since Wolf Spiders are poor dispersers (Marshall et al, 2000), they are likely to be affected by human
activity such as habitat destruction from land clearing, and pesticides used on crops and grasses. This
is likely to affect the Wolf Spider as habitat destruction would not only remove its home, but also
cause the removal of prey

Patriot 16k 5th Wheel Hitch Research Paper
When you need a fifth wheel trailer hitch to tow your full sized family camper, the B W Patriot 16K
5th Wheel Hitch is an American made rail mounted hitch that will take you off on your next great
adventure. When you decide to take your fifth wheel off on a camping trip along the banks of a river
in a national park or down to a local lake for a weekend getaway, this hitch is made to make it easy to
maneuver your trailer due to an articulating head that gives you the ability to pivot from front to back
and side to side. That makes parking so much easier. The side to side pivot is spring cushioned, and
there is no metal to metal contact because it uses polyurethane bushings. Once your trailer is
connected, you do not need to worry about its security because it is held in place by ¾ inch jaws that
wrap around and provide you with a solid connection between the trailer and the truck. With its cam
action handle that is easily accessed and released, disconnection is easy no matter whether you are

Police Brutality
There is various forms of human rights violation currently in the United States, however; Police abuse
remains the most serious of them all. Police brutality is, therefore, the use of excessive force or even
unnecessary force by the police while they are dealing with civilians. People are left wondering if the
police are doing the jobs they were appointed to do under the law. They act in ways such as the use of
guns and pepper sprays to intimidate civilians, racial profiling, false arrests, severe beatings,
unjustified shootings, police corruption and even sexual abuse among others (King). The truth of the
matter is that such incidents usually go un noticed and worse of unreported. Police brutality is an issue
of contention given that they have the authority to apply force when necessary. Hence, when do we
say that police brutality has occurred, what causes it and how do we end it.
Currently, there is inadequate report statics of police brutality incidents or complaints. The reason
being that there is no requirement that states that any of the law enforcement agencies must report
such statistics. Hence, all the data that is presented is based on the ones reported voluntarily. In fact,
the federal bureau of investigation stated that they cannot handle such cases when there is no reliable
information that they can analyze (Dokoupil). Police brutality remains to be high in areas where there

schools offer training within medical facilities as part of their course programs as well. All CNAs must
take an examination before they become qualified nursing assistants. To become a CNA you have to

in the state where you wish to work. After completing training, you ll need to take a competency exam
that tests both your book knowledge and practical skills that were taught during training. Practice tests

Human Cloning Benefits Essay
The Benefits of Human Cloning
There are many ways in which in which human cloning is expected to benefit mankind. Below is a list
that is far from complete.
Dr. Richard Seed, one of the leading proponents of human cloning technology, suggests that it may
someday be possible to reverse the aging process because of what we learn from cloning.
Human cloning technology could be used to reverse heart attacks. Scientists believe that they may be
able to treat heart attack victims by cloning their healthy heart cells and injecting them into the areas

Leukemia. We should be able to clone the bone marrow for children and adults suffering from

Cancer. We may learn how to switch cells on and off through cloning and thus be able to cure cancer.
Scientists still do not know exactly how cells differentiate into specific kinds of tissue, nor to they

Hugo Bedau s Argue About The Death Penalty
Should we execute murders? That is the debate that we have been struggling with when talk about the
death penalty. A famous philosophy professor by the name of Hugo Adam Bedau has a distinct
argument on this topic that he explains in his paper, How to Argue About the Death Penalty. He
opposed the death penalty on solely moral principles and excludes the augments he believes are
strictly factual. I will show that Bedau s case against the death penalty fails because his facts he
excludes are morally sound arguments.
Hugo Bedau argues that a society is not required to invoke the death penalty for murder unless one
accepts lex talionis that is his first premise and follows it by stating since it is not completely accepted,

Analysis Of Madeleine L Engle s A Wrinkle In Time
In the novel A Wrinkle in Time written by Madeleine L engle had many elements including the main
conflict, setting, characterization, and the author s techniques of giving clues.
As the reader kept reading farther into the book, the conflict grew more and more. Having the conflict
be person vs. person (or IT) made it extra exciting for the reader to read. As the kids (Charles Wallace,
Meg, and Calvin) went tessering with the Mrs. W s (Mrs.Which,Mrs. Who,and Mrs.Whatsit) to find
their father they ended up in a lot of trouble. When they had found themselves on Camazotz, alone, to
find their father, they have realized many of the information and data about Camazotz (95). Charles
had gotten sucked into IT also known as the brain and was then lost in his own world controlled by IT
(122 123). Meg got knocked out (paralyzed) and was almost absorbed into the Black Thing (161
162).The monsters or what they liked to be called beasts almost decided to kill and take them hostage

Merton Model Of Social Deviance
Merton, (1938) model of social deviance desires to refute Freudians and similar theorists that
hypothesize biological abnormalities as a valid explanation for deviance. Their theory further posits
that institutions only exist to channel deviance through some form of utilitarian calculus or unreasoned
conditioning (p. 680). That is, using punishment to deter deviance rather using it as a form of
retribution. Merton, instead, wants to articulate how institutions can itself prompt deviance, and
sustain a significant degree of control over it. He proposes a 2 phase model (673) on how society
structures individual behavior: the first phase is the cultural goal , the putative end for which we ought
to struggle. The second aspect is institutional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rather, these postmodernists focus on the fragmented and heterogeneous nature of our culture, to
suggest that punks are not so much engaging in resistance but ironically reflecting the culture, they
putatively oppose themselves. That television, radio, magazines, pamphlets, virtual media such as the
Internet (Stahl, 1999) helps to create and prolong subculture. Instead, for postmodernists, this intense
codependence of subculture members of the media indicates how closely punks embody our present,
media obsessed moment. A structuralist neo Marxist account of punks was that they were enacting
genuine resistance and disaffection of society. But, as refigured by postmodern theorists as a form of
subcultural capital, an alternative hierarchy in which the axes of age, gender, sexuality and race are all
employed in order to keep the determinations of class, income and occupation at bay (Stahl, 1999).
Lewin and Williams (2009) ethnographic study of the punk community in the southeastern United

identification, and places punks into conflict with those very same post modernists. They position
authenticity in terms familiar from anomie

modern condition as a violent bumper car ride (Variety) which connects stories based on coincidences

The character is wordy and didactic, yes, but not the film. He is also as he proves when he and his
partner carjack a young District Attorney (Brendan Fraser) and his wife (Sandra Bullock) everything
he despises white people for suspecting he is. (Empire) Along his side is his friend Peter Waters who
is played by Larenz Tate, they together begin to steal cars to make a living. Anthony is the dominant
one of the two, since he is older.
The film Crash fits into the categories of Drama, Indie, and Crime. Crash relates to the categories by
including all the characters emotion and how they are individual lives are impacted. How crime is
related in the film is by the carjacking, sexual assaults and as well as the shooting of Mr. Pena s
daughter. The film is not part of a classic. Crash is based on a real life experienced instead of a true

it forcers the viewer to look deep inside themselves and choose which side they would be on. The

Diversity In Downtown Areas
The vision for downtown districts will vary from city to city; however, there are a number of policies
in place to help preserve and provide affordable housing for low income at risk populations
throughout downtown districts. Therefore, the vision for downtown districts should always include
some sort of diversity of incomes. Diversity should always be a key component and downtown
managers, leaders, and developers are committed to providing and building homes that are reasonably
priced. Low income housing is generally defined as housing affordable to households that make below
50 percent of the area median income. In many instances this means that these individuals will receive
public subsidies, or either direct payment goes to the project owner through vouchers and certificates.

The report goes on to say that in order to maintain healthy balance within downtown districts, the new
low income residents will include teachers, policeman, and fireman, child care workers, medical
technicians, elderly, and the disabled, and single parent families. So as I read this information I realize
there are several contradictions. In one breath, the downtown district is suitable for certain classes of
people which make a clear distinction between what the downtown district considers healthy and
unhealthy. As a social worker this raises some red flags for me. This leads me to believe that a certain
classes of people are preferred and accepted. They may be low income but they are still preferred
because they are considered the working class, and to hear that the concept of affordability shifts as
the economy shifts is disheartening. So I can see that the vision will include diversity among incomes;

Spiritual assessment and care of a patient at each medical or psychiatric appointment is an essential

be easily rated in the same way as other values in life (p. 527). Likewise, Srokosz (2013) suggests,
humility is difficult to define and a clear scientific understanding of humility does not exist yet (p.

scholarly interests in humility : (a) original meaning of the term humble, narrow sense of having a low
estimation of one s self and being of little value, the notion of humility conflicts with modern
conceptions of the self and (b) its religious affiliation may also dampen the benefit of acquiring or
nursing humility, particularly in the US culture... (p. 311 312).
Notwithstanding, de Vries (2004) examined humility by applying qualitative approach in order to
explore the following two objectives: (a) To describe how washing feet is a participatory experience,
and (b) To describe how the experience of washing feet can change the relationship between nurse and
patient (p. 580). Utilizing a sample size of seven post registered nurses as participants de Vries

J. M. Coetzee s novel Disgrace is, on the surface, the story of a wayward college professor, Dr. David
Lurie, who is aging into a disrespectful decline. But this story tells of not only the strife and
wrenching change that exist in the microcosm of Lurie s mind, but also the parallel themes that
underlie the social, political, and ethical systems that are the reality of present day South Africa. As
David Lurie interacts with people and creatures outside his normal milieu, the fault lines between his
myopic view of the world and reality begin to crystallize with a disconcerting clarity.

He doesn t care if it s good or bad, he just does it (33). All pretense gone, the committee chair states
the obvious; the shame requested of Lurie is but a fig leaf for appearance s sake. What goes on in your
soul is dark to us, as members of... a secular tribunal if not as fellow human beings (58). This open
acknowledgment that no one cares about the content or purity of Lurie s soul isolates him within
society as well as from his own notion of self. Readers, if not Lurie himself, may begin to realize that
they too are ignorant of what lies within their own souls and that this is the kernel of alienation.
Professed ignorance of the content of the soul of others is something often relied upon in societal
relations between one group and another. The relationship between Lurie and his daughter Lucy s
neighbor, Petrus, is quite symbolic of this. Petrus is a native Afrikaner who speaks in enigmatic,
inflectionless fragments. Lurie is confronted with his presence and initially thinks he is willing to be
friends, but finds the divide too great. Petrus intent is inscrutable, his soul is initially dark to Lurie,
and, though there was a time when he thought he might become friends with Petrus... now he detests
him (152). This is the state of affairs between the races in general, so eager to find their differences
irreconcilable, each so burdened with the weight of history, each perhaps unwilling to search their own
soul.

Liberal Or Conservative Analysis
Any statement that begins with There are two types of people... ought to be met with criticism. People
aren t that simple. But the current system of American politics undermines this, tugging at a few major
core values that tend to separate people into precisely two groups: liberals and conservatives. Even the
most historically beloved and supported president, Theodore Roosevelt, was denied another term upon
campaigning for a third ( middle ) party. Political stratification always induces disagreement, but the
late trend escalades dissent to detriment. Most people would admit to knowing at least a couple of
benevolent and/or intelligent people from both ends of the political spectrum. This begs the question
of which side, liberal or conservative, is better. Is it more practical to be a conservative more ethical to

first two concern themselves with individual treatment, the last three concern themselves with
community and order. A survey in 2008 compared individual s prioritization of these five channels

Holistic And Holistic Nursing Care Essay
Holistic Nursing Care Norma Valdez Rosa South University Online Complementary Alternative
Methods Introduction Holistic nursing is defined as all nursing practice that has healing the whole
person as its goal (Dossey, 2012). Holistic nursing does not replace medicinal practice; rather, it
incorporates the whole patient into the nursing care plan with the outcome being that of a healthier
patient. Holistic Nurse Self Care is the most important core value of the Holistic Nursing Care
standards because of the importance of nurse self care to the delivery of quality patient care. In order
to be able to meet all the needs of the patient, a nurse needs to be prepared in mind, body and spirit.
Holistic Nurse Self Care The Holistic Nursing Care standards are based on five core values: holistic
philosophy and education; holistic ethics, theories and research; holistic nurse self care; holistic
communication, therapeutic environment and cultural competence; and holistic caring process. In my
opinion, Holistic Nurse Self Care ranks as the most important value that should be incorporated into
the Holistic nurse s practice. As a nurse, I feel that nurses have to take care of themselves in order to
be able to take care of their patients and deliver high quality care to them. Self care and self awareness
are important to prevent nurse burnout which can lead to depression, anger, feelings of incompetence,

Daily Formative Assessment
I believe assessment is important and is the basis of planning for instruction, whether it is diagnostic

s quote in Every Teacher s Guide to Assessment, After all, in the end, the problem is less the idea of
testing itself, but how we design them, apply, them, and make use of their data. definitely has an
impact on my assessment practices. I feel it is necessary to make sure the student acquires all aspects
of the learning. Assessment should be used to bring a value for students. Within my instruction, I
implement daily formative assessments which may include turn and share, quick writes, graphic

formative assessment to match the lesson is important to assess how the learning is taught and whether
the students are showing progress. In addition, I have worked on building blocks of formative

Estrogen and progesterone contraceptives can prevent pregnancy by:
Stopping the release of an egg (ovulation).

The R Value insulation on the walls are very poor, parts are not available due to the age for repairs. Needs to be replaced with an energy efficient model. (b) Due to the age, steam and condensate lines inside the buried utility tunnel are leaking, flooding the channel, cracking up the concrete sidewalks and toilets inside the CMS building. This buried tunnel feeds steam from the Unicor building to the CMS. It is affecting the CMS heat. These lines need to be replaced (c) Due to the age, the condensate return pump for the Roll call room is not working, creating steam and condensate leak in the room. No parts are available to repair the pump. The pump needs to be replaced. (d) The concrete ceiling slabs inside the tunnel, underneath the AW Complex/ Work Gate area (20 Lx10 W) is found weak. Load bearing test has been conducted by a structural engineer, recommended to chip the broken concrete and apply new concrete. • 3. Family Nursing Theory Paper All health care providers are familiar or have some idea of what family focused care entails. Family focused care can be practiced in any settings in healthcare, and nurses are familiar with this concept as this strong theory based teaching is emphasized throughout the nursing curriculum. With the trend of health care delivery shifting towards home based or community setting, it is now more than ever important for nurses and advance practice nurses (APN) to incorporate family nursing practice for improved outcomes for the patient and their families. This paper will discuss one of the many family nursing theory and its impact on the family nursing practice now and in the future. Family Nursing Theory The Family Health Model (FHM), developed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the validity and reliability of this tool is replicated and verified thru further wide scale studies, then this scale can be used as an evaluation tool for the effectiveness of an intervention that aims on improving routine health behaviors. In addition, Tyler and Horner (2008) used Denham s FHM as a construct for their collaborative negotiation model. This model describes a process in promoting health and reducing health risk factors in primary care setting by (1) identifying factors that affect individual health and risk status, (2) using family centered intervention to negotiate behavior change and (3) measuring it using health indicators that reflect the outcomes of the provider family interaction. Applying the FHM in the nursing practice will not only make the nurse or APN a more effective healthcare provider, it will provide a more holistic benefit for the individual and family health. FHM in nursing practice encourages family in focusing on the well being of the individuals through health promotion and prevention rather than focus on illness and disease alleviated solely thru treatment and medicines. Furthermore, nurses using the FHM will be able to assist family needs by collaborating with family to develop useful interventions that is within the context of the existing family ... • 4. Essay On Elder Abuse Within the next 20 years the population of older adults will likely outnumber the population of children in this country. The combination of this swiftly increasing population and the latest assessments of the increasing rate of established cases of elder abuse suggest that the issue of elder abuse will continue to grow without significant means for deterrence and intermediation. Due to age related declines in cognitive functioning and other vulnerabilities such as difficulties with mobility, isolation, medication, and dependence, older adults are uniquely attractive to criminal predators (Lindberg, Sabatino, Blancato, 2011). Elder financial exploitation is an especially cumbersome matter to address because of difficulties in identifying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It has earmarked $777 million over a four year span to increase aid to elder victim services such as Adult Protective Services and Forensic Centers. The EJA also establishes an Elder Justice Coordinating Council and a National Advisory Board (Dong, 2012). According to Kohl, Sanders, and Blumenthal (2012) To date, however, major steps forward in national policy and strategy on elder abuse have not been taken, in part because Congress has failed to provide sufficient funding (p. 107). There has been slight progress on the issue with the initiation of a 5.5 million stipend to states to test pilot programs for vulnerable populations of older adults (Kohl, et al., 2012). The addition of the Elder Justice Act brings some hope for long term attention to the issue of elder abuse. This country is extremely unprepared for the magnitude of issues that will erupt with the growth of the older population. Healthcare services, community based and home based services, and long term care facilities are going to be seriously taxed over the next 20 years. It is necessary to address elder abuse prevention, education, and intervention thoroughly in the short term while considerations are somewhat manageable. As stated by Greenlee (2012), This is not solely a federal issue, this is a national crisis (p. 8). If we consider the protection of older adults as a national responsibility, it is clear that advocacy and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Rhetorical Strategies In Saint Joan, By George Bernard Shaw Freedom of thinking, a different way of seeing things can be hard for some. In George Bernard Shaw s Saint Joan, the Inquisitor gives a powerful speech, which demonizes Joan and her heresy. The Inquisitor uses his speech to persuade the church of Joan of the arc s heresy. In his entreaty, he uses many rhetorical strategies such as ethos, pathos, and logos. He even uses similes and analogies to make his case. The Inquisitor keeps an intense and serious tone throughout the speech, while the situation being a grave one. He makes the plea a dying matter as if Joan killed someone. The Inquisitor begins his plea with a grave tone and starting the rhetorical appeal of ethos to legitimize his view of the grave matter. In lines 1 5 he states If you had seen what I have seen of heresy, you would not think it a light thing even in its most apparently harmless and even lovable and pious origins. . Validating that he has dealt with heresy in a great matter, the Inquisitor hasn t seen this only once though, he states again in line 16 I have seen this again and again . He gives the audience the appeal to ethos, the audience now can believe what he is talking about because of his experience. He has now led the audience to be able to trust him. Now the Inquisitor, in his prestigious position, begins to persuade the audience with the horrors and legit wickedness of heresy. Long long time ago... In the city of Palermo, on the island of Sicily, there lived a poor fisherman. He was so poor, he didn t even own a boat. Every day he carried his net down to the sea, tossed it into the water and pulled it up at the end of the day. One day when he pulled in the net he saw something sparkling. At first he thought it was a doll. But he looked closer, he saw that it was a little mermaid, only two or three feet long. At first he was frightened and wanted to throw her back in the water. The rate of the reaction of crystal violet with NaOH is given by the generalized rate law, rate = k [OH ]x [CV]y where k is the rate constant for crystal violet and CV is crystal violet, C25H30N3+. Where x and y are the reaction orders. The equation can be rewritten as: Eq.1 k = k[OH ]x Since solutions of crystal violet obey Beer s law, absorptivity can be calculated using the following equation: Eq.2 At = ε l[CV]t Where A is the initial absorbance when the experiment first starts, l is the path length of the cuvette (2.54 cm), and [CV]t is the initial concentration of crystal violet. Procedure: Determination of Reaction Order in Crystal Violet MicroLAB Kinetics program was opened, then the colorimeter was calibrated to a 100% transmission by filling a marked, clean, clear cuvette, about ¾ full of deionized water. The cuvette was wiped with a Kimwipe from the outside before putting it in the colorimeter. The cuvette was inserted in the chamber, then the cap was closed, and the Read Blank button was clicked to start the calibration. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Gender Roles In The Secret Life Of Bees Mothers and fathers play different roles in society to provide a balance of qualities as they nurture their children to become well mannered and independent adults. Although both parents play a prominent role in shaping their daughter s character and personalities, mothers predominantly provide her with protection, emotional support, and a sense of reliance because they share feminine qualities. The novel, The Secret Life of Bees, illustrates the difficulties that young girl faces from growing up without a mother. When Lily and Rosaleen start to live with the Boatwright family, Lily quickly realizes how compassionate they are. When August sends Lily to the bee yard for the first time, she gives Lily great advice, to give the bees love. After all, she says, every little thing wants to be loved (92). This signifies not only that bees want appreciation, but so do humans. This also implies that if someone endures a long time without support, they become hard and sting. Ever since Lily was four years old, she has seen her father agitated and forceful towards her. T. Ray s actions prove that he is an ill equipped father for a teenager. By the end of the novel, Lily validates that living with the Boatwrights not only gave her one caring authority figure but several amazing mothers. Therefore, Lily needs positive mother figures to feel more worthy after she struggles for almost a decade. Evidently, a mother figure would be affectionate to Lily no matter what she does or ... Hamlet s good friend and confidant Horatio is doomed by the etymology of his nomenclature to give good speech. It is possible that Shakespeare might have been influenced by this idea; since he play is thought to be set around 1200, it is more likely that a subconscious consignment of information passed from Shakespeare s pen into Horatio s intellect. With a potential new perception of how the sun and moon and earth move in their orbits and how those movements affect things like the tides, Horatio might have equated this with motions and circumstances affecting people and sets up his metaphor to perform a double duty. One, he views the visitation of King Hamlet s host as precurse to fierce events, almost like the calm before the storm(within Neptune s empire). • 28. Hallway Hangers and The Brothers Essay In his research Jay Macleod, compares two groups of teenage boys, the Hallway Hangers and the Brothers. Both groups of teenagers live in a low income neighborhood in Clarendon Heights, but they are complete opposites of each other. The Hallway Hangers, composed of eight teenagers spend most of their time in the late afternoon or early evening hanging out in doorway number 13 until very late at night. The Brothers are a group of seven teenagers that have no aspirations to just hang out and cause problems, the Brothers enjoy active pastimes such as playing basketball. A primary group is a small, relatively permanent, intimate, and unspecialized group that develops a sense of we ; a face to face group that entails close emotional ties. A type of group that is less characteristic of groups in modern society where impersonality and individualism tend to dominate (Charon p. 327). The Hallway Hangers know as a group that work is highly important in order to support them. The boys have all held summer time jobs. All of them, except for one of the members have pursued fulltime work, but none have been able to obtain meaningful employment. Every time one of them thinks they have a decent job, something happens and it doesn t work out for them. This type of firsthand experience in the job market further deflates any illusions they might have had about the openness of the opportunity structure (Macleod p. 164). In contrast, the Brothers as a group look forward to a more optimistic future where work is the central goal. For this group, work is an exclusively summer time affair, in fact only one member is on the job market full time (Macleod p. 167). This is one of the reasons why they still have a positive attitude towards the labor market, they have not been shut out or had a job fall through on them. As a group they may even discuss their goals for school and work in the future and this can lead to even higher ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Spiritual Assessment Advanced Practice Nurse Implications Spiritual assessment and care of a patient at each medical or psychiatric appointment is an essential aspect of providing adequate care by all NPs. To be able to do so, NP must understand that spirituality and religiosity are not synonymous. Unlike the concept of religion, which defined by the online Oxford dictionary (2017) as The belief in a worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods, spirituality holds various definitions depending on whom you ask. Equally, Castledine (2011) states, The trouble with humility is that it is a very humble virtue to have and one that cannot be easily rated in the same way as other values in life (p. 527). Likewise, Srokosz (2013) suggests, humility is difficult to define and a clear scientific understanding of humility does not exist yet (p. 103). Similarly, Crigger and Godfrey (2010) review of literature offer two reasons for the lack of scholarly interests in humility : (a) original meaning of the term humble, narrow sense of having a low estimation of one s self and being of little value, the notion of humility conflicts with modern conceptions of the self and (b) its religious affiliation may also dampen the benefit of acquiring or nursing humility, particularly in the US culture... (p. 311 312). Notwithstanding, de Vries (2004) examined humility by applying qualitative approach in order to explore the following two objectives: (a) To describe how washing feet is a participatory experience, and (b) To describe how the experience of washing feet can change the relationship between nurse and patient (p. 580). Coetzee s novel Disgrace is, on the surface, the story of a wayward college professor, Dr. David Lurie, who is aging into a disrespectful decline. But this story tells of not only the strife and wrenching change that exist in the microcosm of Lurie s mind, but also the parallel themes that underlie the social, political, and ethical systems that are the reality of present day South Africa. As David Lurie interacts with people and creatures outside his normal milieu, the fault lines between his myopic view of the world and reality begin to crystallize with a disconcerting clarity. This open acknowledgment that no one cares about the content or purity of Lurie s soul isolates him within society as well as from his own notion of self. Readers, if not Lurie himself, may begin to realize that they too are ignorant of what lies within their own souls and that this is the kernel of alienation. Professed ignorance of the content of the soul of others is something often relied upon in societal relations between one group and another. The relationship between Lurie and his daughter Lucy s neighbor, Petrus, is quite symbolic of this. Petrus is a native Afrikaner who speaks in enigmatic, inflectionless fragments. Lurie is confronted with his presence and initially thinks he is willing to be friends, but finds the divide too great. Petrus intent is inscrutable, his soul is initially dark to Lurie, and, though there was a time when he thought he might become friends with Petrus... now he detests him (152). This is the state of affairs between the races in general, so eager to find their differences irreconcilable, each so burdened with the weight of history, each perhaps unwilling to search their own soul. ... Even the most historically beloved and supported president, Theodore Roosevelt, was denied another term upon campaigning for a third ( middle ) party. Political stratification always induces disagreement, but the late trend escalades dissent to detriment. Most people would admit to knowing at least a couple of benevolent and/or intelligent people from both ends of the political spectrum. The first two concern themselves with individual treatment, the last three concern themselves with community and order. A survey in 2008 compared individual s prioritization of these five channels with their position on the liberal/conservative spectrum. The survey revealed that liberal people value care and fairness significantly higher than they value loyalty, authority, and purity.
