The Audit Of Financial Statements
Introduction and Motivation
The audit of financial statements is mandatory for publically listed entities throughout the world.
The auditor conducts various tests and based on the results forms an opinion on the truthfulness and
fairness of the financial statements of the company and whether or not they are prepared in
accordance with the financial reporting standards and are free from any material misstatement
(Freedman, 2013). The purpose of auditing is to enhance the confidence of investors and to add
credibility to the truthfulness of company s true financial performance. However, there are some
dos and don ts that an auditor must take care of. For instance, anything that threatens the
independence of the auditor must be avoided as it adversely affects the truthfulness and objectivity
of the opinion formed.
History raised questions about Australian rules concerning the independence of auditors and its role
in contributing to the corporate collapse and the collapse of HIH insurance ltd (Ramsay, 2001). It is
believed that if auditors had been objective in formulating their opinion on the statements or
highlighted the risk of going concern of the firms, situation could have been handled better. Possible
reason for auditor being unable to detect future threats here might be lack of independence from the
auditing client.
Independence of the auditor from the client means independence of mind and appearance. The five
major threats to independence of an auditor include

Jonah s Attempt For Escape His Divine Mission
Jonah s Attempt to Escape His Divine Mission The book of Jonah is a fascinating one. It is full
of intrigue, suspense, questions, and unbelievable events that let the discerning believer in on the
awesome power of God s correction, His love, and especially His grace. For some reason Jonah,
though a prophet of God who seemingly was willing to follow the Lord s commands, did not adopt
the grace attribute of God s character. Jonahwas judgmental, as human beings often are, and he
could not see past the egregious sin of Ninevehin order to understand the grace and the heart of
God. Nineveh was a city saturated with sin. Its inhabitants performed evil deeds in the sight of
God. The Assyrian empire ruled this very important city and all of... Show more content on

He wanted Nineveh totally destroyed. Jonah did not believed that the Ninevites deserved another
chance, possibly because of the ferociousness of their sin, so he decided that he was not going to
bring the prophetic word of God before them. Knowing that his words had the power to change
people s minds, Jonah did not want even the slightest chance of Nineveh repenting to God (Jonah
1:3). Some ministers in modern day would be wise to revisit the book of Jonah. So many refuse to
preach in certain places because they feel the sin is too great, or that God cannot meet the need,
or even that they are not the right person to bring the word to that group of people. They will
claim, as Jonah did, that the people do not deserve mercy; therefore, it is better to run from the
task (and God) than to preach a word that might change the hearts of man. In running from God,
readers can see just how stubborn and steadfast in his convictions Jonah was. He boarded a boat
to Tarshish hoping foolishly to escape the presence of the Lord (Jonah 1:3). This is an interesting
tactic because as a prophet of God, and a very successful prophet at that, Jonah knew that there
was no where he could go to escape God. For the reader, one would do well to remember that God
omnipresent. He is everywhere all the time. He is also omniscient, so he hears every thought that
enters the mind and knows the exact intentions of each person s

Seasonal And Spatial Variation Of Diffuse ( Non Point )...
0A.P. Jarvis Seasonal and spatial variation of diffuse (non point) source zinc pollution in a
historically metal mined river catchment, UK. 1.Introduction: Gozzard et al s. (2011) study
focuses on the importance of each, point source and diffuse (non point) zinc (Zn) pollution in the
River West Allen Catchment (RWAC) in the North Pennine Ore field. The River West Allen
(RWA) has been subject to historical Zinc mining which came to a halt in the 1970 s but has
consequently left abandoned Zinc mines which contributes as a source of pollution to the River
West Allen (RWA) (Gozzard et al. 2011). Zinc in its most ecotoxic form, Zn2+, is a concern for the
ecology and benthic fauna of river systems. In addition, the EU s implementation of... Show more

Thus, calculating the contribution of diffuse Zinc sources into the river. 2.Results and
Discussion: By using the techniques above to measure Zinc concentrations at high and low flow
for 15 months, Gozzard et al. (2011) found that point source Zinc pollution plays a role in
discharging Zinc into RWA but is more prominent during low flow events. This is due to
exposure of shafts during low flow which in turn encourages exchange between ground and
surface waters. Gozzard et al. (2011) uses Vink et al. s (1999) statement that the interaction
between surface water and ground water is a major pathway for contaminant transfer , thus
using the statement to justify a similar mechanism in the RWAC at low flow. In addition, during
low flow conditions, the RWA is supersaturated with minerals which results in a sink for zinc,
which explains that the reduction of Zinc is likely due to the adsorption of Zinc onto the river s
sediment. Gozzard et al. (2011) conclude that point source mine discharge is the biggest
contributor of Zinc in the RWA during low flow conditions. However, during high flow, point
source mine discharge into the river is not as significant due to the dilution effect of the water on
zinc in the river. However, in the middle part of the catchment, a steady rise occurs which
suggests that diffuse sources of Zinc are present. As previously stated, formerly deposited and/or
adsorbed Zinc on surface rock during low flow may be

Use Of Prawns In District 9
Throughout the film District 9 , the key idea of dehumanising is expressed through committing acts
that would otherwise horrify humans. Neill Blomkamp, the director of District 9 explores the ways
humans often dehumanising others through the use of prawns acting as creatures from a foreign
land. Blomkamp creates the film where prawns and humans are divided along racial lines, leaving
prawns to be looked upon as unhuman like aliens. Prawns undergo horrific experimentation and
abuse by the NMU soldiers but when Wikus Van De Merwe finds himself in a particularly
extraordinary and outlandish situation, humans turn against Wikus and begin to hunt him down.
Wikus begins to learn the conditions which the prawns are involuntary compel to deal with

How Does Esther Replace Vashti
Esther is like the Proverbs 31 woman; like Ruth and Judith, when Esther is queen she puts on not
only her beautiful royal clothing on, but also strength and dignity which are represented through the
clothing. Because Queen Vashti does not listen to King Ahasuerus, the king sent letters to every
province, declaring that every man should be mater in his own household (Esther1:22). The king s
order is backward of the Proverbs 31 woman, who oversees the house. Esther is chosen by
Ahasuerus to replace Vashti as queen. After selected, she was given months of cosmetic treatments
(2:8 9). Esther then won the kings favor from the group of young virgins he systematically raped.
Up until this point, Esther has been under the protection of Mordecai

Analysis Of Holden Uses Defense Mechanisms
Jenny Jung Mrs. Kehrmeyer AP Language, Period 1 08 March 2017 Consequently, Holden uses
defense mechanisms, as a means of preventing anxiety that would result from conscious
awareness of disturbing impulses, wishes, or ideas arising from the id, (Nevid 471). Nevid
explains that according to Freudian theory, defense mechanisms reside in the unconscious part of
the human brain because if people were conscious of every single problem, people wouldn t be
able to function. Therefore, Holden is subconsciously utilizing defense mechanisms in order to
shield himself from confronting his problems. One major defense mechanism present in Holden s
behavior is denial. Holden s resides in an ivory tower, reluctant to accept that he s actually hurt....
Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Nevid clarifies, Though defense mechanisms may be a normal process of adjusting to
the unreasonable demands of the id, they can give rise to abnormal behavior, (471). Although
defense mechanisms can help put off a certain problem for some time, relying on defense
mechanisms is not always beneficial because it gives people reasons to act irrationally. This
clarification of Freud s theory is strongly portrayed in Holden s exaggerated view of reality. His
denial triggers delusional fantasies in Holden s mind that he doesn t seem to think deeply about.
For example, when one rash thought entered into Holden s mind, he delivers an ultimatum to
Sally, saying, ...Tomorrow morning we could drive up to Massachusetts and Vermont...We ll
stay in cabin camps until the dough runs out. Then, when the dough runs out, I could get a job
somewhere, and we could live somewhere with a brook and all and, later on, we could get
married or something, (Salinger 132). At the age of sixteen, as if it s not unrealistic enough, he
tries to persuade Sally. When Sally gives him a reality check, he practically rages at her. Holden
is so blinded by the fantasy world he created for himself and his defense mechanisms were giving
Holden an excuse to acting abnormally. As a result, he blames Sally for the unreasonable idea he
proposed, calling her a royal pain in the ass, (133). This irrational behavior of Holden is exactly
what Freud is illustrating in his theory of personality that

Humor In Hot Fuzz
Humor offers different levels of entertainment to many people. They re like jokes after hearing
the joke once, will it be funny again? Thus, it s a good way to evaluate a film to how much
comic does it actually provide. Still, not everyone have the same perception of their way of
analyzing film but it offers a glimpse of what to expect in the film. In the film, Hot Fuzz, by Edgar
Wright, certain aspects of the film are analyzed for its noteworthy humor. Funniness in comparison
to previous film is one way to look at it. According to Peter Bradshaw of The Guardian , Hot Fuzz
is a noteworthy film because the Wright/Pegg/Frost team make up for this with plenty of
irrepressible fun. The combination of the three offers the same entertainment

Abuse Power In The Crucible
Another lesson I learned from reading The Crucible, is to not abuse power. Abusing power is
using power to an advantage in a bad way. Good leaders use their power to influence people in a
positive way, while bad leaders use their power mainly for personal benefits. In the play, many of
the characters with power abused it. They took complete control of situations influencing other
characters to do bad things. One character from the book that abuses his power is Judge
Danforth. Danforth ran all the trials for the witches , and was completely unfair. He made it
basically impossible for an accused witch to be innocent. He also didn t allow suspects to have
lawyers or anyone give information that disagreed with him. He considered different opinions
as contempt of court . When Mr. Nurse was clashing with Danforth over the issue, Danforth said,
do you know who I am, Mr. Nurse? (Act lll, Scene l) This shows that Danforth has the cocky
mindset that he is above everyone. Good leaders should be able to listen to critics. Danforth
believed that everyone accused was a witch; so he didn t even bother giving them a fair chance.
Many people died under his signature. He used his power to contribute to the destruction of the
town and many lives. Another example from the book deals with the ringleader of the group of
girls caught in the woods; Abigail Williams. Abigail happened to be the leader of the group, and
was completely evil. Abigail was able to influence a whole group of girls to

The Preparation of Acetaminophen (Paracetamol) with Thin...
Experiment 3: The preparation of acetaminophen (paracetamol) with thin layer chromatography
(TLC) to monitor the reaction.
Abstract:
This experiment is to demonstrate the preparation of paracetamol and its properties. Reflux and
filtration of 4 aminophenol and acetic anhydride formed the crude sample. Further analysis of dry
white crystals were used to give quantitative measurements and a percentage yield of 46% was
obtained. The overall conclusion is that the acetic anhydride reacted with the NH2 group.
Materials and Methods:
1. We weighed out (on a top pan balance) 4 aminophenol (about 11.0g) in a weighing boat and
transfer the powder to a 250cm3 round bottomed flask (RBF) using a powder funnel. 2. Then
recorded the amount ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sample + Ethanol= Colourless solution
FeCl3 was then added to this solution and a positive colour change was seen, as it turned green
Sample + Ethanol + FeCl3 = Dark Green solution
This was then repeated using Salicyclic Acid instead of the sample to give a reference material as it
will give a positive test for a phenol.
Salicyclic Acid + Ethanol = Colourless solution
Salicyclic Acid + Ethanol + FeCl3 =Purple solution
The positive colour change from colourless to dark green of the sample means that the phenol
group is present in the sample. Therefore indicating that the acetic anhydride has reacted with the
amino group.
3. Determine the melting point and record the infrared spectrum of the dry solid.
Melting Point:
The melting point of sample obtained is: 1680C
Literature Value: [1]: 169 1720C
Fig 1.1 Infrared Spectra of Paracetamol:
The infrared spectrum of paracetamol shows the appearance of a new peak at 1561 1650cm 1
this represents the carbonyl group from the acetic anhydride, meaning that paracetamol has been
formed. The OH peak is still present at 3109 3319cm 1 this shows that the phenol group is still
attached to paracetamol. From the infrared spectra you can also see that the NH2 group has
disappeared. This is as it has been selectively acetylated by acetic anhydride to form paracetamol.

One of the themes of the Jade Peony was the difficulty that the early Chinese immigrants had to
face when they came to Canada in the late 1800s. Wong Suk is one of the early immigrants,
believing there is a gold mountain that could make them rich. There had also been rumours of
gold in the rivers that poured down those mountain cliffs, gold that could make a man and his
family wealthy overnight. (pg 17). When he first arrived, he found out the gold mountain was
only a lie, instead waiting for him is dangerous railroad work, a low paying job with only a few

The old people, Poh Poh and Wong Bak, never integrated into the Canadian Society, and were
unable to accept the Canadian culture. They were deeply devoted to their native country and
had to go back to China to die, as indicated by Wong Bak s parting words, bone must come to rest

The Glass Menagerie By William Shakespeare Essay
We all want to disappear at times... escape even. In the end we all know that we cannot run from
our problems, no matter where you run they are always there lurking in the shadows. Tennessee
William s 1944 play The Glass Menagerie is a remembrance of time long ago and wanting to
escape the unhappy, confining lives of Tom, Amanda, Laura and Jim. Although they are
unhappy with their lives they choose to hide from the reality. Amanda is stuck in a lifetime ago
her youth back in St. Louis in the 1930s. She tries to relive her youth through Laura. Laura is
pretty much terrified of life in general and uses her disability to hide. Tom on the other hand just
exists through life and spends a lot of time writing poetry, drinking and living vicariously through
movies he watches every night at the theater. Jim is a coworker of Tom s and went to high
school with Tom and Laura. He knows that there is more to life than what he lives. His plan of
escape come via continuing his education, but often relives the past of his glory days. Each
character in the play has their own method of escape which they use to hide from the real world.
Amanda is trapped in a lifetime ago of her youth in the 1930s where she grew up in St. Louis. She
often tells Tom and Laura stories of when she was young. Why I remember one Sunday morning in

Social Problems and Social Welfare
For many of us when we hear the term Homeless the first image that often springs to mind is a
person huddling in a sleeping bag or cardboard box in a doorway of a city street. Whilst media
imagery and information released by charities can support this picture the problem of homelessness
encompasses a far wider range. This discussion looks at homelessnesswith a particular emphasis on
young people that is young people typically aged between 16 and 24.
In its simplest form Homelessness means not having a home. In this context a home is not just a
house, it is a permanent, private roof over your head, a place of security with community links and
support. It should be of a decent standard and affordable. (Shelter Nov 2005)

The Homelessness Act 2002 widened the classification of homeless people having a priority need
to include 16 17 year olds, care leavers aged between 18 and 20 and persons who are vulnerable due
to them being in care, prison, armed forces or fleeing violence and/or threats of violence. This is
a step in the right direction but bearing in mind we are considering young people to be 16 24
where is the support for persons 18 years +? There is still a significant gap here considering the
lower minimum wage and benefit levels available in this age range.
Other legislation places duties on Social Services departments to provide for people in and leaving

What is the impact of homelessness on young people? The More than a roof report acknowledged
that historically government s investment in affordable housing has been significantly too low.

Politics And Art Has Been An Important Tool For The...
Politics and art have always gone hand in hand in China. Be it the terracotta army of the first
emperor of China (late 3rd BCE) or the propaganda posters during the Cultural Revolution (1966
1976), art has been an important tool for the Chinese rulers to pursue their political agendas to
reach the common man.
The interaction between art and politics was perhaps at its peak during the Qing period (1644
1911). The Qianlong emperor (д№ѕйљ†, r. 1735 1799) is considered to be the forerunner of the
project of militarization of culture in China , making relentless efforts to establish a harmonious
rule over various parts of China. The expansionist policies of Qianlong are well known and he is

Qianlong s focus on the combination of wen (ж–‡) and wu (ж¦) in his reign could be compared to
that of Emperor Taizong of the Tang Dynasty (626 649), a perfect embodiment of civil and martial
values himself. The influence of the Tang and Han dynasties on the Qing Empire can be seen in the
renewal of military rituals and values from that time.
Another reason for the persistent emphasizing of the importance of martial power during the Qing
can also be attributed to the origins of the Qing rulers. They were of Manchu origin, belonging to
the Aisin Gioro clan , and perhaps in order to uphold their inner Asian roots, favoured military
power (wu) over culture (wen), unlike preceding dynasties, which preferred wen over wu. This
acknowledgment of the status of martial tenet is very noteworthy as it is clearly in contrast to the
elite astuteness of the Chinese ruler, who traditionally portrayed the Chinese state as non military,
despite the actual state of affairs.
This ideology was not very prevalent in Chinese visual culture before Qianlong, which was an elite
institution involving scholarly pursuits of art. Even if hunting scenes were common during the
Ming (1368 1644), they do not explicitly describe the emperor as an expansionist or do not

How can it be considered an anti war film if none of the characters question the reason for war, or
any politicians for that matter? The film does not focus on the purpose of the war but more so
on how the war is conducted. One of the more interesting parts of the movie is James s reaction
to the real word. It shows that James cannot cope in a civilian lifestyle. This is very evident
when he goes back home to the States. In the supermarket he seems lost, a feeling he never
really seemed to have in Iraq. He hesitates when he picks out a cereal; James never hesitated back
in Iraq. His inability to cope with civilian society is also very evident when he is in his house. He
tries to tell his ex wife all about the stories he has from Iraq but she does not listen. It appears
that being in a bomb squad is the only thing that he talks and cares about. The defining moment
that explains James s inability to be a civilian is when he talks his son. He says that there is only
one thing in the world he loves. The next scene shows him going back to Iraq and putting the
bomb suit back on. This scene in particular highlights his addiction to war. He was unable to have
a happy life at home so he needed to go to the one place that made him happy. It can be compared
to a drug addict going back into a relapse after a break. Although one can argue that James s
addiction to war is an effect of the war which would make the movie anti war, the last

The Truth About Kennedy s Assassination
The Truth About Kennedy s Assassination
There needs to be more explaining and evidence on about President Kennedy s assassination
because what the government says is nonsense and doesn t line up. The government says it was
Oswald, but how could that be he had a wife and kids, so why would he want to go away from
them and go to prison? There s things that the government has concealed from the public. Just
something seems to be off about the government s explanation. I m going to try to give an
explanation for what seems to be the truth due to the information I found in the article The JFK
Assassination .
See, here s what I think is that Oswald was a part of a larger conspiracy than we know, but in this
conspiracy he is innocent. Also instead of Oswald it was the government, a bar owner(Jack
Ruby), and the mob did it because how would someone be calm and have no sweat if he did shoot
Kennedy? In addition, be on the 6th floor, then get on the 4th floor in ninety seconds and still have
regular breathing?
Now you might be saying, What why would they have? . There s an explanation which is that the
government didn t like Kennedy. I think this because he made the mob angry and the government
didn t like that he did. Now Jack Ruby had connections to police and they work for the ... Show

You might agree, disagree, or even be more confused than before. Either way I just had to take
my freedom of speech to make this assassination more into reality unlike the government. This is
my explanation and this should be clearing up some of the questions or maybe leaves us with
more questions. I even still have a few questions, but my main question is if my theory is correct
that they government was involved, then why didn t they just kill him along time before if they
did want him dead? I also can answer my question which is that they wanted the right time, in front
of a huge crowd to keep it a mystery to everyone

Should Chris Brown be allowed to enter Australia?

Chris Brown should be granted a visa pass for many reasons, one being him announcing that if he

issue. I would be more than grateful to come to Australia to raise awareness about domestic violence

Reggae is a music genre that evolved from the Jamaican music style called ska, and was influenced
by American rhythm and blues. Reggae contains many references Rastafarianism, which many
consider the result of Bob Marley s practice of integrating reggae with Rastafarian ideology. This
paper serves to examine reggae, with special emphasis on a lyric analysis of Jamaican reggae band

The context of deindustrialization that gave birth to American hip hop is comparable to that of
the community of marginalized poor Blacks in ghetto Trenchtown in Jamaica. Hip hop was able
to replicate and reimagine the grievances of urban life and symbolically appropriates urban
space, and give disadvantaged young Black youth a voice to vent their frustrations (Rose, 1994).
The tensions and contradictions in public urban landscape during a period of substantial
transformation in New York and attempts to seize the shifting urban terrain are found within hip
hop s rap lyrics. As a result, rap lyrics directly related to urban deindustrialization of the 1970s,
the postindustrial urban landscape in 1980s, and impact of all these social pressures on the Black
communities. Hip hop s emergence entails several Afro diasporic forms, traditions, and practices,
and rap is form of protest (Rose, 1994). Police brutality, racism, and harassment make up the
political core of male rapper s social criticism. This strongly parallels the social function of reggae
lyrics.
Rose (1994) talks about the long history of Black cultural subversion and social critique in music
and performance, and the concept of the hidden transcript . In social conditions in which direct
attacks on authoritative groups are unwise, oppressed people may use music to mock those in
power, to express rage, and to produce fantasies of subversion (Rose,

Movements And Counter Revolutions And Revolutions
Movements and counter movements, revolutions and counter revolutions, this is the story of
human history. Karl Marx observed that to truly identify a state, we need only to observe its
economy and the associated institutions, Marx s famously commented liberal conceptions of
justice and equality often result in unequal results rung as a corner stone argument of opponents of
Neo Liberal economics. The story of the Occupy Movement, while regularly citing Marxist

Neo Liberalism, globalization and the fight to re include economic equality in the discourse of

The Cold Animal War Essay
The cold animal war There is a fight that has been made public and has steadily been growing.
The fight or war as I like to call it, is should animal mills be dealt away with or should they stay
where they are? I hear constantly that I should not by an animal from a mill. I am told that we
have enough animals in this world. Here is the thing though lots of people enjoy getting a new
animal. Especially if that animal is a pure breed . So the argument ensues. There are two clear
sides, one side says we should only adopt animals and get them neutered/spayed. The other side
says we should be able to buy our petswithout anything stopping us. Both sides have valid points,
but we should voice our own questions. Like does buying an animal from... Show more content on

Breeding an animal is said to be better all around. You have a knowledge of who is the parents to
this animal and how they were treated. You know if the animal age and you know what kind of
health risk you may get from the animal.
Breeding is said to be superior to adopting and one of those reasons said is that by breeding an
animal the animal is pure bred. By having a pure bred animal you can breed more like that
animal. You have papers that say your animal is pure bred. Being pure bred is kind of like being
an upper class citizen. You get treated better, you get better food, and animal health is treated
similar to a humans.
Breeders will even tell you around the age your animal will be able to live up to. This is because
you have a healthy pure bred animal. You can sell the animal for higher profit. Money makes a big
difference and when you can make a profit on animals be it dog shows to selling dairy cows. For
example, we know there is such a thing as high quality animals. Especially in our food. One of the
most bragged about pure breeding is that the animal is better around. Stronger, higher quality, and
less likely to die at a young age.
Con side breeding animals Breeding animals can be harsh for the animals. They could be bred into
an animal mill where they are cooped up in cages all day and never get to go out. The animal like
chickens, dogs, or cats, etc. Can be bred massively. This is all to have higher production. Which
means more money.

The Contemporary Advocates Of Liberalism
In the thoughts of the contemporary advocates of Liberalism, one of the most noticeable and
extensive accomplishments of the Early Modern time period is the expression, protection, and
justification of civil liberties including the ability to run for and attain office. From the
seventeenth century to present day, a number of distinct argumentative policies and approaches
have been established in order to defend the common civilian s ability to attain political office.
Over the past several decades, great advancements have been made in order to allow minorities
and even females to run for office. Politics and religion are two of the toughest matters to
deliberate with people of any area. The only item more problematic to have a heart to heart about
than politics and religion is the practice of taking religious means and interpretations into the
political jurisdiction. Some of the most controversial and newest topics in present day society are
those that are deeply affected by religious means such as abortion, legalization of same sex
marriage, and warfare. Richard Rorty and Alan Stout have very conflicting views over when and if
it is socially acceptable to bring religion into a discussion over public concerns. Although neither
philosopher prohibits the practice of religious support in an argument, Rorty believes that using
religion in the conversation dealing with public concern is ignorant, senseless, and irresponsible.1

Madoff Case Study
Author s Viewpoint In the case study about the Bernie Madoff scandal, the author makes the point
that the motivation to succeed in business can present a conflict with the fiduciary duty that a
business person has to the client. There is question whether Madoff was motivated solely by
greed, in which case he was engaged in a simple Ponzi scheme, or whether he used the Ponzi
scheme to hide his failure to generate returns for his clients. Madoff s lack of transparency violated
the trust of his clients, even if he did not initially intend to defraud his clients. There is some ethical
ambiguity in this case. Discussion The lesson of this case is that transparency is the best policy,

Two The most famous Ponzi scheme, and which gave rise to the term, involved Charles Ponzi s
sale of international reply coupons to be reimbursed for postage stamps (Grossman, 2012). Like
other schemes, Ponzi paid off investors with proceeds generated from newer investors. Ponzi s
scheme is notable because it not only lost investor funds but also brought down six banks.
However, this scheme was relatively small compared to the one launched by Allen Stanford,
which defrauded investors of more than $7 billion, compared to Ponzi s $20 million. Three It is
almost impossible to believe that Madoff s sons did not know about their father s fraud, and thus
they were complicit ethically if not legally. They could have simply reviewed the investments that
Madoff claimed to have made to generate the returns, which would have revealed no link between
investor assets and the investments. Madoff would have had to prevent his sons from reviewing
any of the transactions. Madoff s sons not knowing of their father s scheme may be far fetched,
since his sons were directly involved in trading as the Director of Trading and Director of
Proprietary Trading. Four The ethical issues surrounding running a family owned business relate to
the ability to remain impartial and transparent to a third party who has the interests of investors,
customers, suppliers, and other stakeholders at heart. The family has a single interest that could
result in a cover up when wrongdoing occurs. By

The violence of his action in killing both his children pertains to his honor as a father and the
rules that society has emplaced upon him. This expectation is understood when Titus asks
Saturninus whether or not the killing of Lavinia after her rape was an action he should conduct
and why, to which Saturninus answers: Because the girl should not survive her shame, / And by
her presence still renew his sorrows. (5.1.41) Notice that the reason for her death is tied to the
father, who will be reminded of her shame every time he sees her, and that there is an societal
expectation that he do so. Shakespeare gives his insight into how society also effects the cycle of
violence, which can best be described by William Goode in his article Force and Violence in the
Family, in which he describes the societal impacts on a father:
He is socialized not to kill, but that very socialization makes him care deeply about principles and
honor, fairness and possessions, fidelity and self respect; indeed, these emotional commitments are
so great that he will risk or even give his life for them. It cannot be so surprising that he will also

business in their government wide statements; however, the information provided is still
inadequate to facilitate the major types of decisions and judgments made by statement users. There
are some people, who agree to the above statement, and some are not; regardless of the information
provided it is important to be correct and adequate in order to know as a governmentleader where
the money has been spend and how it has to be spent; it is government s moral obligation to report
it in their government wide statements. Therefore, this paper is going to address about whether it is
important to report capital assets similar to businesses, differences between moral obligation bonds
from other types of debt, and it is about why one government assume a moral obligation for another
government s bonds.
Governments Must Report Capital Assets Similar to Businesses It is important to report their
capital assets as similarly to business in the government wide statements, but governments need to
improve on providing correct and adequate information for the government leaders. GASB No. 34
requires capital assets report, and it needs to be reported in the applicable governmental or business
type activities columns in the government wide financial statements. According to Hegar (2016),
capital assets are those defined by the state as assets with an initial cost meeting the thresholds

Genetically And Modified Dairy Cattle Essay
Cows produce a protein in their milk called BLG and many infants are allergic to this protein.
Two to three hundred infants are allergic to cow s milk, and BLG allergies are seemingly a large
part of this. Various organizations are trying to investigate ways to manipulate the genetic material
in the modified dairy cattle with the main goal of producing milk that doesn t contain the lethal
BLG protein. Daisy is a genetically modified cloned cow and whom does not produce milk
containing the BLG protein but does however have the genefor it. But the mRNA for the BLG
protein has become nonfunctional. Once the protein has been manipulated the cow containing
the modified gene is cloned to produce a calf with the same genetic material. This cloned cow
will then not produce the protein. This technique is very useful to produce a herd without the
protein to gather more milk. Because of this protein produced (BLG) this causes a lot of people
and infants to become very sick and ill. Therefore by creating a herd of cows using the processes
of Gene Knockdown and Cloning this would not only cut out the lethal protein of BLG, but this
will also create cows that don t possess the BLG protein and therefore creating healthy milk for all
to drink.
Gene knockdown refers to experimental techniques by which the expression of one or more of an
organism s genes are reduced. This reduction of genes can occur either through genetic modification
(alters the genetic makeup of an organism using

What Ever Happened To Baby Jane By Robert Aldrich
In the genre of film noir, What Ever Happened to Baby Jane is a 1962 American psychological
thriller that was directed and produced by Robert Aldrich. Aldrich created this film to use different
aspects to create many different emotions in the mind and the body of the audience as they watch
this cult classic. Five aspects that he used are lighting choice, music and instrumentation, makeup,
costume, and overt acting and expression. These aspects are used throughout the filmin many
different ways. The first aspect used in this film is lighting choice. One way that the lighting choice
created emotions in the audienceis whenever something bad is going to happen, the lighting gets
darker. For example, when Elvira (the house maid) set down the hammer and opened the locked
door that Blanche was in and Jane picked up the hammer and was about to kill Elvira, the
lighting in the room was darker than normal. Also, the use of dark lighting is used to create
suspicious, dark, or scary emotions. For example, when Jane is moving Elvira s body to her car,
the setting is very dark and creates dark, suspicious, and scary emotions.... Show more content on

One way that music and instrumentation is used in this film is whenever something bad is about
to happen, the music and instrumentation gets louder and more dramatic. For example, when Jane
picked up the hammer, the music and instrumentation started to get louder and louder until she hit
Elvira causing dramatic and scary emotions. Another way music and instrumentation is used to
create emotions is when Jane sings I ve written a letter to daddy as edwin plays the piano. This
creates a very disgusted emotion because she is very old and she can t sing like she did before

We Propose A Novel Framework For Tweet Segmentation
Abstract Twitter has become one of the most important communication channels with its ability
providing the most up to date and newsworthy information. Considering wide use of twitter as the
source of information, reaching an interesting tweet for user among a bunch of tweets is
challenging. A huge amount of tweets sent per day by hundred millions of users, information
overload is inevitable. For extracting information in large volume of tweets, Named Entity
Recognition (NER), methods on formal texts. However, many applications in Information Retrieval
(IR) and Natural Language Processing(NLP) suffer severely from the noisy and short nature of
tweets. In this paper, we propose a novel framework for tweet segmentation in a batch mode,
called HybridSeg by splitting tweets into meaningful segments, the semantic or context
information is well preserved and easily extracted by the downstream applications. HybridSeg
finds the optimal segmentation of a tweet by maximizing the sum of the stickiness scores of its
candidate segments. The stickiness score considers the probability of a segment being a phrase in
English (i.e., global context) and the probability of a segment being a phrase within the batch of
tweets (i.e., local context). For the latter, we propose and evaluate two models to derive local
context by considering the linguistic features and term dependency in a batch of tweets,
respectively. HybridSeg is also designed to iteratively learn from confident segments as pseudo

Difficulties of Colonisation of Mars Using the Shoemakers Ark
There are many reasons that Mars colonisation using Shoemakers Ark is a good idea, however,
there are also many contradictory arguments that may also make Mars uninhabitable.
Understandably, Mars colonisation seems like a fantastic idea to preserve the human race from
extinction, but have leading scientist and powerful governments considered the small details of this
seemingly impossible venture?
Firstly, Mars temperatures are far too unstable for human colonisation to exist. Currently, Mars
functions at 127 degrees to 27 degrees Celsius which is far outside human comfort. However, as
discussed in question 4, modern technologies can prevail over this complex issue through climate
control measures for example. These measures can easily replicate Earth s comfortable temperature
and also regulate humidity. Compounds like these already exist in high altitude areas such as the
Himalayas. Thus, scientists could easily create Climate Control Compounds using similar
techniques and construction methods. Therefore, with a simple adaptation to our already existent
technology, we can be one step closer to creating Shoemakers Ark.
On the other hand, the colonisation in these Climate Control Compounds will be restricting and
uncomfortable for the majority of civilians. Lack of Leisure resources and open spaces may result
in conflict inside the Colonisation. This conflict does not provide any positive productiveness in
the advancement of the human race. Strict rules,

We the legal team of Greene s Jewelry have the opportunity to evaluate all the necessary details
of the case and overlooked what the strengths and weaknesses of our argument would be
presented to the Court. To assist our argument we have decided to utilize the regulations,
substantive laws and case laws. The case precedents will provide multiple directions for the
arguments to be assessed in the Court. Greene s Jewelry is more likely to receive a favorable
judgment by applying these resources in the claim against Ms. Lawson. After numerous
evaluations and examinations, we the legal team has assess the elements of the case and

The Effects of Environmental Factors on the Absorbance of...
Introduction
In this experiment, the gram negative bacterium Escherichia coli is being subjected to various
environmental factors that affect the rate of growth. These factors scrutinized were the different
types of nutrients, the intensity of aeration, or the temperature at which it was stored. The purpose
of this lab is to determine which factor affects the Escherichia coli the greatest. It is known that
these abiotic factors affect the rate of growth the greatest if they remain at the correct conditions for
living.
Escherichia coli and other bacteria will go through four phases; a lag phase, log phase, stationary
phase, and a death phase. In the lag phase, the bacteria reproduce fairly slowly, as they are

We took readings every 15 minutes, until the class was over which was at the 90 minute mark.
For the temperature and aeration trials, the test tubes of Escherichia coli with tryptic soy broth
(TSB) were measured using identical procedures as the nutrient trials were tested. Before every
sample, we had to re zero the spectrophotometer with a blank test tube, and then we took the
reading from the cultured tubes. As we did for the nutrient experiments, we also took the readings
from the temperature and aeration samples every 15 minutes. The temperature test tube was
prepared by exposing it to room temperature (25В°C), another test tube in an oven (33В°C), and
the test tube in a lab oven which was slightly warmer, at 37В°C.
In the aeration samples, one flask was stationary and it was exposed to the atmosphere. The second
sample was put in a regular flask, and placed in a shaking water bath. The third sample was placed
in an irregular shaped flask, which was also placed in the quivering water bath. After treatment, all
the samples were measured on the spectrophotometer, using the same procedure as the nutrient
samples and temperature samples.
Results
The results showed that the experimental data did not necessarily display the lowest MGT. For the
nutrient data, the MSG had a mean generation time of an hour, the MSGT had a doubling time of
less than 13 minutes, and the MSGTYE had a mean generation time

Novel Play Review Notes: Brave New World
Key Quotation
Everyone belongs to everyone else, after all. (149)
The idea of complete access in Brave New World actually elucidates the confinement in which the
citizens of the modern world are living in. Everyone must subject to one another s desires and
motives, seemingly being treated like property. Consequently, the fact that all the members of this
society play both the role of master and slave demonstrates that the only individuals with a sense of
true freedom are those who regulate the society and control the thoughts of the general population.

From the beginning of the novel readers are introduced to a highly advanced yet seemingly
dystopian society, based in London. Huxley establishes that the year is A.F. 632 or 2540,
commemorating Henry Ford s production of the Ford Model T in 1908 (A.F. 1). Already,
readers begin to understand the role the setting plays in the novel as the new World State
worship a figure of industrial and technological advancements similar to how people of our time
worship God. Huxley further creates a disturbing image by elaborately describing every single
detail of this new world, from professions such as Director of Hatcheries and Conditioning to
technologies like scent organs and vibro vacuum massages. This intense emphasis of detail even
helps parody our own world. Christianity has the cross, citizens of the World State have their T .
We would say, Thank God! ; they say Thank Ford! . Consequently, while London enjoys the fruits
of these advancements, Huxley describes the savage reservation in New Mexico with the same
kind of detail, but keeping an emphasis on the primitive characters of this land. The reservation
shares a resemblance to that of an exhibition at a zoo, and partly takes that form as Bernard Marx,
one of the protagonists, visits the area to examine and view the inhabitants. In the reservation,
Bernard is given a tour of the culture, activities, and people of the reservation. Aside from the
natural landscape, readers learn that even the

so they are the principal subject of the album cover. The only light present in this image comes in
front of the hands, and it makes all the particular detailed. All the anatomical details are very visible

Right above the palms of the hands there is a bird that flies up to the top of the cover, it s

For many years after the death of Christ, Christianity had many sectarian groups until it was
standardized by the late fourth century in the Roman Empire. One of these groups was the Gnostic
Christians. They believed God was a dyad, or as one having both male and female characteristics
and as a result, practiced this equality between men and women in their communities. They clashed
with the orthodox community during the second to fourth century and their teachings were
excluded from the canonical teachings known as the New Testament. The standardized scriptures
influenced the doctrine known today as orthodox, or correct teachings (Bentley and Zeigler 251).

The erasure of feminine imagery for God can be attributed to the social consequences that came
from believing in a God that had masculine and feminine characteristics.
The gnostics belief in their God also translated over into the gender roles of their communities.
Women in the church were allowed hold roles that for the orthodox church were reserved only for
men such as being a priest, prophet, healer, and evangelist. Though several women also held those
roles ten to twenty years after Jesus death, prominent men in the Orthodox Church such as
Bishop Irenaeus and Tertullian labeled the gnostics as heretics and expressed blasphemy over
the fact that women were treated as equals (85). This patriarchal view may have been influenced
due to various cultural influences in the churches of the Roman Empire, such as the arrival of
Hellenized Jews. Traditional Jewish beliefs are seen in Paul s viewpoint of the role of women as
he argues from a conception of a masculine God. He says, ...a man...is the image and glory of
God; but woman is the glory of man (qtd. in Pagels 86) for his justification of the subordination of
women. By 200 BC, majority of Christian churches supported the pseudo Pauline letter of
Timothy, which read Let a woman learn in silence with all submissiveness. I permit no woman to
teach or to have authority over men; she is to keep silent (qtd. in Pagels 86), which correlated to

The Water Bottling Industries Put Out False Advertising
Interests/Issues
Techniques of Neutralization (Pg. 200, Chapter 8) Ways of thinking or rationalizing that helps
people deflect society norms.
This week s video called Tapped brings up the world wide issue of water and the waste that come
with it. Bottled water brings many concerns to the table, including health and environmental issues.
One of the main issues that I found interesting was how much the water bottling industries put out
false advertising. Did you ever look on a bottle of water and see beautiful mountains or a crystal
clear stream? Well, you guessed it... false advertising. The video explained to us that not only does
most of the bottled water that we drink come from a tap but it also is not tested the way that it is
advertised. The bottled water that everyone is drinking has most likely only been ran through a
filter, no testing for chemicals or bacteria has been done. We are led to believe that this water is
more safe and/or better for us due to the very convincing messages written on the bottles. When in
reality the water that comes from your kitchen sink is much better for you, unless otherwise noted.
Aquafina water has one of the biggest false advertisement labels. The bottles label consists of a
clean blue label showing images of snow capped mountains and the claim, Pure water, perfect taste.
This leads to the incorrect conclusion that Aquafina is sourced from mountain spring water. When
is reality, Aquafina come from a tap. In 2007 PepsiCo (the brand

The Easter Islander s Rise And Fall Essay example
The original inhabitants of Easter Island serve to show us what the ingenuity of the human spirit
can accomplish and the follies that can accompany them. The first islanders were the Polynesians
that arrived around 400 AD from south east Asia. It is estimated that their were between twenty and
thirty individuals that made the colossal journey. By the innovation of the double canoe it allowed
them to travel a great distance to an islandwhere they could establish a brilliant civilization. There
civilization was based on being the best one can be which fostered intense competition between the
different clans. Competition brought out the best and the worst in the people over their greed for
the resources that the island provided. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to advance the islander s society, they began cutting down the vegetation and wooded
areas of the island. They found this necessary because by cutting down the trees it allowed for
more space for agriculture that the inhabitants needed to satisfy the flourishing population. It was
also necessary because the trees were used for canoes, heating, houses, cooking and poles. The
greatest abuse of the wooded area came from the need to move the stone statues from the quarry to
different sites on the island. Islanders used the tree trunks as rollers since they had to rely on
human power to move them. Excessive use of wooded areas resulted in over six hundred large
stone statues being made and most of the forest disappearing by the 1600s. The disappearance of
the wooded areas brought about great changes to the islander s way of life. One change was that
the islanders could no longer build houses out of wood and instead had to find new places to
live. They began living in shelters dug out from the hillside and making reed huts made from the
remaining vegetation that grew near the water. The lack of woodlands brought an end to long
journeys since the canoes were made of wood. Only reed boats were a possibility that could only
travel a short distance. Gathering food from the sea was made harder too. Since nets for fishing
were made from the mulberry tree that was no longer available. The diminishing resources resulted

Jaycee Lee Dugard was a nine year old girl who was kidnapped by a stranger at age eleven. Phillip

from a barn, to a house, different rooms. Being so young and taken would be the worst, not getting
to be with her family. Phillip had a wife named Nancy, they treated Jaycee like their daughter.
Jaycee later on got pregnant two times. She now has two beautiful baby girls that are growing up

The Value Of A Liberal Arts Education
Aspects of recent debates about the value of a liberal arts education, its usefulness and its
appropriateness strike a familiar and disturbing historical chord. Recently in English class, my

education. Liberal arts are college or university studies (as language, philosophy, literature,

how they feel, not what they think will be accepted by others. When deciding whether or not to

because your friends don t want an education. By not participating in college, we can easily get

  • 2. The Audit Of Financial Statements Introduction and Motivation The audit of financial statements is mandatory for publically listed entities throughout the world. The auditor conducts various tests and based on the results forms an opinion on the truthfulness and fairness of the financial statements of the company and whether or not they are prepared in accordance with the financial reporting standards and are free from any material misstatement (Freedman, 2013). The purpose of auditing is to enhance the confidence of investors and to add credibility to the truthfulness of company s true financial performance. However, there are some dos and don ts that an auditor must take care of. For instance, anything that threatens the independence of the auditor must be avoided as it adversely affects the truthfulness and objectivity of the opinion formed. History raised questions about Australian rules concerning the independence of auditors and its role in contributing to the corporate collapse and the collapse of HIH insurance ltd (Ramsay, 2001). It is believed that if auditors had been objective in formulating their opinion on the statements or highlighted the risk of going concern of the firms, situation could have been handled better. Possible reason for auditor being unable to detect future threats here might be lack of independence from the auditing client. Independence of the auditor from the client means independence of mind and appearance. The five major threats to independence of an auditor include ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Jonah s Attempt For Escape His Divine Mission Jonah s Attempt to Escape His Divine Mission The book of Jonah is a fascinating one. It is full of intrigue, suspense, questions, and unbelievable events that let the discerning believer in on the awesome power of God s correction, His love, and especially His grace. For some reason Jonah, though a prophet of God who seemingly was willing to follow the Lord s commands, did not adopt the grace attribute of God s character. Jonahwas judgmental, as human beings often are, and he could not see past the egregious sin of Ninevehin order to understand the grace and the heart of God. Nineveh was a city saturated with sin. Its inhabitants performed evil deeds in the sight of God. The Assyrian empire ruled this very important city and all of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He wanted Nineveh totally destroyed. Jonah did not believed that the Ninevites deserved another chance, possibly because of the ferociousness of their sin, so he decided that he was not going to bring the prophetic word of God before them. Knowing that his words had the power to change people s minds, Jonah did not want even the slightest chance of Nineveh repenting to God (Jonah 1:3). Some ministers in modern day would be wise to revisit the book of Jonah. So many refuse to preach in certain places because they feel the sin is too great, or that God cannot meet the need, or even that they are not the right person to bring the word to that group of people. They will claim, as Jonah did, that the people do not deserve mercy; therefore, it is better to run from the task (and God) than to preach a word that might change the hearts of man. In running from God, readers can see just how stubborn and steadfast in his convictions Jonah was. He boarded a boat to Tarshish hoping foolishly to escape the presence of the Lord (Jonah 1:3). This is an interesting tactic because as a prophet of God, and a very successful prophet at that, Jonah knew that there was no where he could go to escape God. For the reader, one would do well to remember that God omnipresent. He is everywhere all the time. He is also omniscient, so he hears every thought that enters the mind and knows the exact intentions of each person s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Seasonal And Spatial Variation Of Diffuse ( Non Point )... 0A.P. Jarvis Seasonal and spatial variation of diffuse (non point) source zinc pollution in a historically metal mined river catchment, UK. 1.Introduction: Gozzard et al s. (2011) study focuses on the importance of each, point source and diffuse (non point) zinc (Zn) pollution in the River West Allen Catchment (RWAC) in the North Pennine Ore field. The River West Allen (RWA) has been subject to historical Zinc mining which came to a halt in the 1970 s but has consequently left abandoned Zinc mines which contributes as a source of pollution to the River West Allen (RWA) (Gozzard et al. 2011). Zinc in its most ecotoxic form, Zn2+, is a concern for the ecology and benthic fauna of river systems. In addition, the EU s implementation of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thus, calculating the contribution of diffuse Zinc sources into the river. 2.Results and Discussion: By using the techniques above to measure Zinc concentrations at high and low flow for 15 months, Gozzard et al. (2011) found that point source Zinc pollution plays a role in discharging Zinc into RWA but is more prominent during low flow events. This is due to exposure of shafts during low flow which in turn encourages exchange between ground and surface waters. Gozzard et al. (2011) uses Vink et al. s (1999) statement that the interaction between surface water and ground water is a major pathway for contaminant transfer , thus using the statement to justify a similar mechanism in the RWAC at low flow. In addition, during low flow conditions, the RWA is supersaturated with minerals which results in a sink for zinc, which explains that the reduction of Zinc is likely due to the adsorption of Zinc onto the river s sediment. Gozzard et al. (2011) conclude that point source mine discharge is the biggest contributor of Zinc in the RWA during low flow conditions. However, during high flow, point source mine discharge into the river is not as significant due to the dilution effect of the water on zinc in the river. However, in the middle part of the catchment, a steady rise occurs which suggests that diffuse sources of Zinc are present. As previously stated, formerly deposited and/or adsorbed Zinc on surface rock during low flow may be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Neill Blomkamp, the director of District 9 explores the ways humans often dehumanising others through the use of prawns acting as creatures from a foreign land. Blomkamp creates the film where prawns and humans are divided along racial lines, leaving prawns to be looked upon as unhuman like aliens. • 6. How Does Esther Replace Vashti Esther is like the Proverbs 31 woman; like Ruth and Judith, when Esther is queen she puts on not only her beautiful royal clothing on, but also strength and dignity which are represented through the clothing. Because Queen Vashti does not listen to King Ahasuerus, the king sent letters to every province, declaring that every man should be mater in his own household (Esther1:22). The king s order is backward of the Proverbs 31 woman, who oversees the house. Esther is chosen by Ahasuerus to replace Vashti as queen. • 9. Analysis Of Holden Uses Defense Mechanisms Jenny Jung Mrs. Kehrmeyer AP Language, Period 1 08 March 2017 Consequently, Holden uses defense mechanisms, as a means of preventing anxiety that would result from conscious awareness of disturbing impulses, wishes, or ideas arising from the id, (Nevid 471). Nevid explains that according to Freudian theory, defense mechanisms reside in the unconscious part of the human brain because if people were conscious of every single problem, people wouldn t be able to function. Therefore, Holden is subconsciously utilizing defense mechanisms in order to shield himself from confronting his problems. One major defense mechanism present in Holden s behavior is denial. Holden s resides in an ivory tower, reluctant to accept that he s actually hurt.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, Nevid clarifies, Though defense mechanisms may be a normal process of adjusting to the unreasonable demands of the id, they can give rise to abnormal behavior, (471). Although defense mechanisms can help put off a certain problem for some time, relying on defense mechanisms is not always beneficial because it gives people reasons to act irrationally. This clarification of Freud s theory is strongly portrayed in Holden s exaggerated view of reality. His denial triggers delusional fantasies in Holden s mind that he doesn t seem to think deeply about. For example, when one rash thought entered into Holden s mind, he delivers an ultimatum to Sally, saying, ...Tomorrow morning we could drive up to Massachusetts and Vermont...We ll stay in cabin camps until the dough runs out. Then, when the dough runs out, I could get a job somewhere, and we could live somewhere with a brook and all and, later on, we could get married or something, (Salinger 132). At the age of sixteen, as if it s not unrealistic enough, he tries to persuade Sally. When Sally gives him a reality check, he practically rages at her. Holden is so blinded by the fantasy world he created for himself and his defense mechanisms were giving Holden an excuse to acting abnormally. As a result, he blames Sally for the unreasonable idea he proposed, calling her a royal pain in the ass, (133). This irrational behavior of Holden is exactly what Freud is illustrating in his theory of personality that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Humor In Hot Fuzz Humor offers different levels of entertainment to many people. They re like jokes after hearing the joke once, will it be funny again? Thus, it s a good way to evaluate a film to how much comic does it actually provide. Still, not everyone have the same perception of their way of analyzing film but it offers a glimpse of what to expect in the film. In the film, Hot Fuzz, by Edgar Wright, certain aspects of the film are analyzed for its noteworthy humor. Funniness in comparison to previous film is one way to look at it. According to Peter Bradshaw of The Guardian , Hot Fuzz is a noteworthy film because the Wright/Pegg/Frost team make up for this with plenty of irrepressible fun. • 11. Abuse Power In The Crucible Another lesson I learned from reading The Crucible, is to not abuse power. Abusing power is using power to an advantage in a bad way. Good leaders use their power to influence people in a positive way, while bad leaders use their power mainly for personal benefits. In the play, many of the characters with power abused it. They took complete control of situations influencing other characters to do bad things. One character from the book that abuses his power is Judge Danforth. Danforth ran all the trials for the witches , and was completely unfair. He made it basically impossible for an accused witch to be innocent. He also didn t allow suspects to have lawyers or anyone give information that disagreed with him. He considered different opinions as contempt of court . When Mr. Nurse was clashing with Danforth over the issue, Danforth said, do you know who I am, Mr. Nurse? (Act lll, Scene l) This shows that Danforth has the cocky mindset that he is above everyone. Good leaders should be able to listen to critics. Danforth believed that everyone accused was a witch; so he didn t even bother giving them a fair chance. Many people died under his signature. He used his power to contribute to the destruction of the town and many lives. Another example from the book deals with the ringleader of the group of girls caught in the woods; Abigail Williams. Abigail happened to be the leader of the group, and was completely evil. Abigail was able to influence a whole group of girls to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There had also been rumours of gold in the rivers that poured down those mountain cliffs, gold that could make a man and his family wealthy overnight. (pg 17). • 17. The Glass Menagerie By William Shakespeare Essay We all want to disappear at times... escape even. In the end we all know that we cannot run from our problems, no matter where you run they are always there lurking in the shadows. Tennessee William s 1944 play The Glass Menagerie is a remembrance of time long ago and wanting to escape the unhappy, confining lives of Tom, Amanda, Laura and Jim. Although they are unhappy with their lives they choose to hide from the reality. Amanda is stuck in a lifetime ago her youth back in St. Louis in the 1930s. She tries to relive her youth through Laura. Laura is pretty much terrified of life in general and uses her disability to hide. Jim is a coworker of Tom s and went to high school with Tom and Laura. He knows that there is more to life than what he lives. His plan of escape come via continuing his education, but often relives the past of his glory days. • 18. Social Problems and Social Welfare For many of us when we hear the term Homeless the first image that often springs to mind is a person huddling in a sleeping bag or cardboard box in a doorway of a city street. Whilst media imagery and information released by charities can support this picture the problem of homelessness encompasses a far wider range. This discussion looks at homelessnesswith a particular emphasis on young people that is young people typically aged between 16 and 24. In its simplest form Homelessness means not having a home. In this context a home is not just a house, it is a permanent, private roof over your head, a place of security with community links and support. It should be of a decent standard and affordable. This is a step in the right direction but bearing in mind we are considering young people to be 16 24 where is the support for persons 18 years +? There is still a significant gap here considering the lower minimum wage and benefit levels available in this age range. Be it the terracotta army of the first emperor of China (late 3rd BCE) or the propaganda posters during the Cultural Revolution (1966 1976), art has been an important tool for the Chinese rulers to pursue their political agendas to reach the common man. The interaction between art and politics was perhaps at its peak during the Qing period (1644 1911). The Qianlong emperor (д№ѕйљ†, r. 1735 1799) is considered to be the forerunner of the project of militarization of culture in China , making relentless efforts to establish a harmonious rule over various parts of China. Qianlong s focus on the combination of wen (ж–‡) and wu (ж¦) in his reign could be compared to that of Emperor Taizong of the Tang Dynasty (626 649), a perfect embodiment of civil and martial values himself. The influence of the Tang and Han dynasties on the Qing Empire can be seen in the renewal of military rituals and values from that time. Another reason for the persistent emphasizing of the importance of martial power during the Qing can also be attributed to the origins of the Qing rulers. They were of Manchu origin, belonging to the Aisin Gioro clan , and perhaps in order to uphold their inner Asian roots, favoured military power (wu) over culture (wen), unlike preceding dynasties, which preferred wen over wu. This acknowledgment of the status of martial tenet is very noteworthy as it is clearly in contrast to the elite astuteness of the Chinese ruler, who traditionally portrayed the Chinese state as non military, despite the actual state of affairs. This ideology was not very prevalent in Chinese visual culture before Qianlong, which was an elite institution involving scholarly pursuits of art. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... How can it be considered an anti war film if none of the characters question the reason for war, or any politicians for that matter? The film does not focus on the purpose of the war but more so on how the war is conducted. One of the more interesting parts of the movie is James s reaction to the real word. It shows that James cannot cope in a civilian lifestyle. This is very evident when he goes back home to the States. In the supermarket he seems lost, a feeling he never really seemed to have in Iraq. He hesitates when he picks out a cereal; James never hesitated back in Iraq. His inability to cope with civilian society is also very evident when he is in his house. He tries to tell his ex wife all about the stories he has from Iraq but she does not listen. It appears that being in a bomb squad is the only thing that he talks and cares about. The defining moment that explains James s inability to be a civilian is when he talks his son. He says that there is only one thing in the world he loves. The next scene shows him going back to Iraq and putting the bomb suit back on. This scene in particular highlights his addiction to war. He was unable to have a happy life at home so he needed to go to the one place that made him happy. It can be compared to a drug addict going back into a relapse after a break. The context of deindustrialization that gave birth to American hip hop is comparable to that of the community of marginalized poor Blacks in ghetto Trenchtown in Jamaica. Hip hop was able to replicate and reimagine the grievances of urban life and symbolically appropriates urban space, and give disadvantaged young Black youth a voice to vent their frustrations (Rose, 1994). The tensions and contradictions in public urban landscape during a period of substantial transformation in New York and attempts to seize the shifting urban terrain are found within hip hop s rap lyrics. As a result, rap lyrics directly related to urban deindustrialization of the 1970s, the postindustrial urban landscape in 1980s, and impact of all these social pressures on the Black communities. Hip hop s emergence entails several Afro diasporic forms, traditions, and practices, and rap is form of protest (Rose, 1994). Police brutality, racism, and harassment make up the political core of male rapper s social criticism. This strongly parallels the social function of reggae lyrics. Rose (1994) talks about the long history of Black cultural subversion and social critique in music and performance, and the concept of the hidden transcript . The Contemporary Advocates Of Liberalism In the thoughts of the contemporary advocates of Liberalism, one of the most noticeable and extensive accomplishments of the Early Modern time period is the expression, protection, and justification of civil liberties including the ability to run for and attain office. From the seventeenth century to present day, a number of distinct argumentative policies and approaches have been established in order to defend the common civilian s ability to attain political office. Over the past several decades, great advancements have been made in order to allow minorities and even females to run for office. Politics and religion are two of the toughest matters to deliberate with people of any area. The only item more problematic to have a heart to heart about than politics and religion is the practice of taking religious means and interpretations into the political jurisdiction. Some of the most controversial and newest topics in present day society are those that are deeply affected by religious means such as abortion, legalization of same sex marriage, and warfare. Richard Rorty and Alan Stout have very conflicting views over when and if it is socially acceptable to bring religion into a discussion over public concerns. However, this scheme was relatively small compared to the one launched by Allen Stanford, which defrauded investors of more than $7 billion, compared to Ponzi s $20 million. Two to three hundred infants are allergic to cow s milk, and BLG allergies are seemingly a large part of this. Various organizations are trying to investigate ways to manipulate the genetic material in the modified dairy cattle with the main goal of producing milk that doesn t contain the lethal BLG protein. Daisy is a genetically modified cloned cow and whom does not produce milk containing the BLG protein but does however have the genefor it. But the mRNA for the BLG protein has become nonfunctional. Once the protein has been manipulated the cow containing the modified gene is cloned to produce a calf with the same genetic material. This cloned cow will then not produce the protein. This technique is very useful to produce a herd without the protein to gather more milk. Because of this protein produced (BLG) this causes a lot of people and infants to become very sick and ill. Therefore by creating a herd of cows using the processes of Gene Knockdown and Cloning this would not only cut out the lethal protein of BLG, but this will also create cows that don t possess the BLG protein and therefore creating healthy milk for all to drink. HybridSeg finds the optimal segmentation of a tweet by maximizing the sum of the stickiness scores of its candidate segments. The stickiness score considers the probability of a segment being a phrase in English (i.e., global context) and the probability of a segment being a phrase within the batch of tweets (i.e., local context). For the latter, we propose and evaluate two models to derive local context by considering the linguistic features and term dependency in a batch of tweets, respectively. Firstly, Mars temperatures are far too unstable for human colonisation to exist. Currently, Mars functions at 127 degrees to 27 degrees Celsius which is far outside human comfort. However, as discussed in question 4, modern technologies can prevail over this complex issue through climate control measures for example. The gnostics belief in their God also translated over into the gender roles of their communities. Though several women also held those roles ten to twenty years after Jesus death, prominent men in the Orthodox Church such as Bishop Irenaeus and Tertullian labeled the gnostics as heretics and expressed blasphemy over the fact that women were treated as equals (85). The Easter Islander s Rise And Fall Essay example The original inhabitants of Easter Island serve to show us what the ingenuity of the human spirit can accomplish and the follies that can accompany them. The first islanders were the Polynesians that arrived around 400 AD from south east Asia. It is estimated that their were between twenty and thirty individuals that made the colossal journey. By the innovation of the double canoe it allowed them to travel a great distance to an islandwhere they could establish a brilliant civilization. There civilization was based on being the best one can be which fostered intense competition between the different clans. Competition brought out the best and the worst in the people over their greed for the resources that the island provided. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order to advance the islander s society, they began cutting down the vegetation and wooded areas of the island. They found this necessary because by cutting down the trees it allowed for more space for agriculture that the inhabitants needed to satisfy the flourishing population. It was also necessary because the trees were used for canoes, heating, houses, cooking and poles. The greatest abuse of the wooded area came from the need to move the stone statues from the quarry to different sites on the island. Islanders used the tree trunks as rollers since they had to rely on human power to move them. Excessive use of wooded areas resulted in over six hundred large stone statues being made and most of the forest disappearing by the 1600s. The disappearance of the wooded areas brought about great changes to the islander s way of life. One change was that the islanders could no longer build houses out of wood and instead had to find new places to live. They began living in shelters dug out from the hillside and making reed huts made from the remaining vegetation that grew near the water. The lack of woodlands brought an end to long journeys since the canoes were made of wood. Only reed boats were a possibility that could only travel a short distance. Gathering food from the sea was made harder too. Since nets for fishing were made from the mulberry tree that was no longer available. The diminishing resources resulted ... • 58. The Value Of A Liberal Arts Education Aspects of recent debates about the value of a liberal arts education, its usefulness and its appropriateness strike a familiar and disturbing historical chord. Recently in English class, my peers and read and discussed an article titled, Why We Need Liberal Arts written by Joseph R. Urgo from The Baltimore Sun. This article is about the importance and value of a liberal arts education. Liberal arts are college or university studies (as language, philosophy, literature, abstract science) intended to provide chiefly general knowledge and to develop general intellectual capacities (as reason and judgment) as opposed to professional or vocational skills Society may say that college is a waste of time and money, but is it really? Some people... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believe that we live in a world that is scared of what society will think. People should act on how they feel, not what they think will be accepted by others. When deciding whether or not to go to college, don t base your decision on what your friends are doing. Don t ditch college just because your friends don t want an education. By not participating in college, we can easily get stuck in the past. By not learning and evolving, we ll just stay the same, we won t grow and we won t evolve as a whole community. The author makes a good point by stating, Such passions should be nurtured, not suppressed, as if or rather, because our survival as a civilization depends on it . I think this is true because we need as much education as we can get in order to stay ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
