Andrew Jackson
Andrew Jackson, the seventh president of the United Stated of America, was born on March 15, 1767
and died on June 8, 1845 in Nashville, Tennessee. Jackson s parents Andrew and Elizabeth Hutchinson
Jackson were Presyberitains, Scots Irish settlers whom in 1765 emigrated from Ireland. Andrew s
birthplace is deduced to have been at one of his uncles houses in the Waxhaw s area between North
Carolina and South Carolina, his exact whereabouts is unknown. Jackson s mother emigrated across
the Appalachian Mountains after burying her husband. Jackson s father died three weeks before he
was born in a logging accident. His mother, Elizabeth Hutchinson Jackson was a strong independent
woman who was able to raise her three sons while they lived ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

He moved to Salisbury, North Carolina, where he studied law by apprenticing with prominent lawyers.
In September 1787, after three years of studying law, Jackson was admitted to the North Carolina Bar
and received his license to practice law in Jonesborough (now part in Tennessee). To supplement his
income, he also worked in small town general stores. While living in North Carolina, Jackson gained a
reputation for being charismatic, wild, and ambitious. (The Jackson Family,

Donelson in 1794. Rachel had been previously married to Lewis Robards on March 1, 1785. In 1790
she was living an unhappy marriage because of Lewis unreasonable jealousy and completely departed
from him. She then moved back with her mother to Nashville, Tennessee where she had already met
Andrew in November of 1788. They got married in 1791 but she discovered she wasn t actually
divorced so they got remarried in 1794. On December 22, 1828, two months before Jackson s
presidential inauguration, Rachel died of a heart attack. Jackson and Rachel had no biological children
but always lived at The Hermitage an expansive plantation in Davidson County, Tennessee (near
Nashville). In 1808, they adopted one set of twins from Rachel s brother Stevern Donelson and his
wife Elizabeth and raised him as their own. They named him Andrew Jackson Junior. Andrew Junior

The Dance Team-Personal Narrative
It was it. Today was the day that all of our hard work and preparation would matter. Weeks of
conditioning and giving up our social lives to train were finally put to work. It was it. It was the NLL
championship track meet. Right from when I woke up the day felt different. My stomach churned and
all I could think about was how much I wanted to win. I could barely eat because my nerves were
nibbling away at me. As I was getting driven to school, I kept picturing my running strategy in my
head. I had two races tonight, the 400 meter dash and the 4x400 relay. Our relay team had put in hours
of work. Our handoffs were now nearly seamless, and we knew tonight was going to be our run. The
rest off the school day went on as typical , but the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My mind was cleared and all I could think off was passing people. Before I knew it, I was halfway
around the track and my coach was screaming Dig! Digggggg!! . I shot myself forward and kept this
pace. Now it was the last straight away, and I gave it all of my energy I had left. Crossing the finish
line felt great, even though I did not race nearly as well as I had wanted to. I was just happy to be
there. Over the announcements soon after I heard that I had gotten seventh overall and I was very
happy. There were so many girls in the NLL and I placed 7th out of all the 400 meter dash runners.
Plus, I always had next year. Now, it was time for the race I was most excited for, the 4x400. It was
the same distance as my previous run, but our relay had a shot of winning the title of first. We all got
in the infield and practiced our handoffs. They had to perfect, seamless and quick. The difference
between a good and bad handoff could cost us first place. Our event was last, so we cheered on our
team as they completed theirs. Looking at the scoreboard so far, we knew there was no chance we
could come back and win with only the few events we had left. That didn t matter though, because we
had to show we don t give up and do what we

The Hero s Journey Of Heroes Summary

The Adventure of the Hero (Part One)
Prologue
In The Hero with a Thousand Faces, Joseph Campbell dives into his theory that every culture s myths
share a sense of universality. In other words, all the myths of each culture stem from a common
ancestor, or idea. Campbell shows a very headstrong opinion on his theory, as if it is a universal truth
that cannot be altered because this theme will always be the one, shape shifting yet marvelously
constant story that we find. His use of the word shape shifting insinuates that these myths are different
but simply changing slight form from the original, which is not an actual myth but a collection of
similar myths. The prologue lays out a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the Oedipus myth a theme that a son wants to follow his father s behaviors while loving his mother.
The son in this story unknowingly murders his father in battle before marrying his own mother, which
he did not know was his mother. Campbell believes that all myths share three common steps in the
Hero s journey: Separation initiation return: which might be named the nuclear unit of the monomyth.
One way this is enforced is through the Buddha s journey. He goes through temptation followed by
transcendence. Then, the Buddha returns to society with enlightenment. Also, the authors referencing
of other cultures, in particular North American society, is often hidden but it still has a strong presence
and message. Without a stronger awareness and deeper meaning, the society is doomed. The prologue
ends with Campbell s view of The World Navel, which all things, in particular mythology, stems from
a common image/ source. All

Gender Stereotypes And The Socialization Process
Gender Stereotypes and the Socialization Process
The pursuit of gender equality is a central element of a vision of sustainability in which every Member
of Society respects others and plays a role that allows you to take advantage of their potential to the
fullest. The broad goal of gender equality is a social goal that education and other social institutions
should contribute. Gender discrimination is embed in the fabric of societies. In many societies, women
bear the main burden of food production and child rearing. Also, women are often excluded from the
family or Community decisions that affect their lives and well being.
The Parents stereotyped by the gender Classified by gender expectations can occur regarding
personality traits (for example, children are aggressive), skills (for example, girls are good for
reading), activities, and roles (for example, men are scientists). While gender equality has increased in
many cultures over the past decades, there has been a parallel growth in adults regarding the adoption
of attitudes that reflect gender equality. Now there is more variation among parents; some have
traditional expectations and others expressing expectations equal to their daughters and sons.
Similarly, some parents can support egalitarian views on certain fields (e.g. occupations) but are still
more traditional concerning other areas (for example, family roles). Finally, parents (especially men)
tend to be more rigid in their expectations for the

Eugene Delacroix Heroic Figures And The Status Viatoris...
McCann, Carmen L. 2006. Eugene Delacroix s Heroic Figures and the Status Viatoris. Constructions
Of Death, Mourning Memory Conference, October 27 29, 2006: Proceedings 29 32. McCann argues
that Eugene Delacroix included status viatoris, representations of a state between life and death, in his
works and discusses their importance to depicting a heroic death. This chapter looks at Delacroix s
works, including Liberty Leading the People from, multiple approaches, including biography, social
history, and semiotics. They begin by looking at Delacroix s biography and his connection with the
revolution he painted. McCann then goes into the social history by addressing not only those who
participated in the revolution and are thus depicted in the painting, but also looking at the motivation
for starting revolution. He then goes on to look at the lack iconography usually associated with death
on the lying figures in the foreground and the implication that within specifically marking them as
dead, the bodies exist in a place between life and death. This semiotic, post structuralist approach is
useful when engaging with this painting because it allows for multiple interpretations and readings of
heroic death in Delacroix s work. The intersection of all three approaches provide strong evidence for
McCann s argument. They prove to be a useful combination when approaching Delacriox s Liberty
Leading the People.
Mora, Stephanie. Delacroix s Art Theory and His Definition of Classicism. Journal of Aesthetic
Education 34, no. 1 (2000): 57 75. This article looks broadly at Delacroix s body of work and provides
many approaches. The two most prominent approaches used would have to be social history and
biography, but given the time period and subject matter of many of Delacroix s work, it is not
surprising that these two would be popular. Mora does a good job at addressing the issue of self
perception by looking at how Delacroix like to depict himself not only in his paintings, but his
writings as well. Through this conversation, she challenges the use of psychoanalysis as an approach
to Delacroix work and highlights how using his self fashioning as evidence does not hold up for a
strong analysis. When engaging with

Kohlberg s Theory Of The Development Of Moral Judgement
Critically Evaluate Kohlberg s Theory of the Development of Moral Judgement
Lawrence Kohlberg (1927 1987) further developed the works of Piaget (1896 1980) on moral
development. This essay will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of Kohlberg s theory in a critical
manner, looking at the positive aspects of his research and the disadvantages of the types of situations
he gave in his experiments, the universal accuracy of his results and the controversial findings of sex
differences in regards to morality. Kohlberg advanced Piaget s theory of moral development by
interviewing 10 13 year old boys to find out how they would attempt to resolve moral issues. These
issues varied between situations that involved obeying the law, authority ... Show more content on

Although the universal support for Kohlberg s theory is impressive, it does not actually prove that
people went through all the stages in the same order that Kohlberg predicted they would. As these
participants were not monitored throughout every stage of their life we cannot be certain that they all
went through the same stages in the same order, all we can defer from this is that people seem to be at
the stages that Kohlberg predicted they would be at. However Ann Colby and Colleagues (1983) did
do a longitudinal study where they interviewed Kohlberg s original participants five times over three
to four year intervals, lasting for twenty years in total. The results of the study showed that all the
participants went through the stages in the same order, never skipping a stage. These findings offer
strong evidence to support Kohlberg s theory of moral development as, unlike the previous study
mentioned, there is now longitudinal evidence to support that these stages happen in the same order in
many people, and not just assuming that it happened like in Kohlberg s original study (Shaffer Kipp,
2007).
However, there are limits to how far Kohlberg s theory of morality can be taken. When doing the
research to develop his theory Kohlberg only interviewed male participants, completely ignoring the
possibility that females could have a different outlook on morality to males. Carol Gilligan (1982,
1993) recognised that this was an issue with

Stereotypes In American Dad
American Dad is an animated sitcom, created for adults, and originally aired on Fox before being
picked up by the TV channel, TBS. The creators include Seth McFarlane, Mike Barker, and Matt
Weitzman. It is an animated show centered on the Smiths, who live in Langley Falls in Northern
Virginia with their unusual family, which includes an alien named Roger. This show has been on the
air since 2005, and is about to premiere its thirteenth season. Since there are so many seasons, and so
many episodes, I chose to focus on one episode from their first season, entitled Not Particularly
Desperate Housewives. Hidden beneath obvious stereotypes, there are ideas of power, as well as
patriarchal norms and male gaze theory. Also touched upon is the self identity, ... Show more content

Men will identify with Stan, because as a hyper masculinized person, he represents how a
stereotypical male should be. This is also in line with narcissistic voyeurism, because as a man, one
might identify with the primary character, because one sees oneself in Stan s character. Stan is
portrayed as a competitive, goal oriented, authoritative and active male which matched Mulvey s
description of how masculinity is recognized. Since this is very evident in the show, it also points to
patriarchal norms which show Stan as the leader of the household while Francine is always waiting
around to serve him. In one example in this episode, the family is sitting down to dinner. Since it is
Wednesday, it was meant to be leftover night. However, Francine wanted to switch it up and made
lasagna instead. Stan gets very angry and declares that there will be no dinner that evening because it
was leftover night, not lasagna night. This drives Francine to have to follow her husband s instructions
instead of doing things for herself. It portrayed Stan as in charge of the family, and showed that what
the dominant male wanted was what the dominant male, as well as everyone else, was going to get.
These patriarchal norms are exactly what Francine is trying to escape from when she tries to join the
Ladybugs. However, the episode resolves without ever talking about how Stan is always in control,
and instead they go back to the way it was before: with Stan as the leader of the family and everyone
else submits to

I Am A Big Deal
For some, turning thirty is a big deal. For Opera Atelier turning thirty is an outstanding
accomplishment few companies could ever compare or measure up to. Moreover, retrofitting Purcell s
Dido and Aeneas seven times in the companies history is a creative feat unto itself. I first became
familiar with Opera Atelier in the 1990 s. A time when it was still considered to be an indy opera
company . Fortunately, that label has changed and I ve been able to witness the companies
progression. I have attended three of their Dido productions and must admit, this was not my favorite
for a number of reasons.
So, how does a company like Opera Atelier reinvent a period piece that was initially staged in the
basement of an all girls school, at a time when the gods were a part of recent history, and music so
boring it could send one to sleep?
Perhaps it would be best to understand OA s genetic makeup. The artistic directors are just as
passionate about their company as they were twenty years ago. Not only was their joy for storytelling
effervescent but their commitment to the aesthetic vision even more. On a warm Saturday afternoon,
the theatre fills with an impressive audience. A number of tourists catch a last minute performance,
parents, children, adults, students, and the Tafelmusik Orchestra s dedicated fans (some of which
appeared in period dress). Toronto s Elgin could not be a more fitting environment to stage Dido, for

Religion In The Canterbury Tales
The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer is a number of stories put together. The narrator is the
author himself. The stories are told by pilgrims who are headed to Canterbury to visit the remains of
Thomas a Becket. The character the Host insists that everyone tells two stories. One on the way there
and one on the way back to make the trip less tiresome. There are some important details to
understand when reading the poem. The first one is the values of the people in the middle ages. The
people s values consist of chivalry, feudalism, Thomas Becket and religion. Next is the influence and
expansion of Christianity throughout. The author uses the characters to portray different messages.
And lastly the author s characterization plays a major ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Roman Catholic Church became corrupt after Thomas Becket died, but he also had a major
impact on the church and the pilgrims. One obvious example is how the pilgrims go on a journey to a
sacred place. His death caused members of the clergy to take unprecedented liberties leading to
corruption in the church. An example of a religious character is the Pardoner. The Pardoner represents
the corruption of the church because he is a dishonest person. The Pardoner says I preach for nothing
but for greed or gain (98). This shows he is only in for the money. It also shows that the relics he sells
is fake. He sells fake relics just to get money from the others. He takes the last coin of an old and poor
widow without any guilt. He also tells a moral story about greed, but yet he is just as greedy. Out
come the penece, and specially for myself, for my exclusive purpose is to win and not at all to
castigate their sin (76 78). This quote shows his greed and shows how corrupt he is to his people.
Chaucer also demonstrates christian aspects through his characters by announcing the monk, nun, and
the friar. All three, are figures that are embodied in a church. Chaucer uses blatant satire in his
characters to show how corrupt the church is. We can tell Chaucer understands the meaning of
Christianity. He uses irony throughout to display the satire and the

Mere Christianity Summary
Mere Christianity
(Lewis, 1952), as a revised and improved edition, with a new introduction, of the three books
Broadcast Talks (1942), Christian Behavior (1943), and Beyond Personality (1944), seeks to explain
and defend the believe that is common to Christians at all times. The book focused on its objective to
present the mere crux of Christianity, which the author referred to as Mere Christianity, and explicitly
did that in four distinctive books: Right and Wrong as a Clue to Meaning of the Universe; What
Christian Believe; Christian Behavior; and Beyond Personality (first step in the doctrine of the trinity).
To address the subject Right and Wrong as a Clue to Meaning of the Universe, the (Lewis, 1952)
stated that, first, that human beings, all over the earth, have this curious idea that they ought to behave
in a certain way, and cannot really get rid of it. Secondly, that they do not in fact behave in that way.

The Threat Of Large Scale Information Security Breaches
This paper will discuss the possibility of large scale information security breaches, the hardware and
software hacked, the hardware and software needed to perform a real time attack, and the
consequences with performing such an attack. This paper will first define any related terms, then
describe the information security systems seen in the WATCH_DOGS video game, then discuss the
various hardware and software involved in an attack in regards to the game and real life, and finally
conclude with whether or not the concepts in WATCH_DOGS are realistic and possible today.
Introduction In the information age of today, the information security is one of the more prevalent
issues that drive information security professionals and computer technicians to build smarter and
stronger software and hardware. In the virtual world of video games, where the effects of something as
devastating as a security breach have no real world repercussions, information security can still be a
serious topic.
One of a popular video game publisher s new titles that have been released recently has taken the
realistic fear of information security and made it into an interesting adventure, where the main
protagonist is every credit card owner s worst nightmare: a hacker. Granted, the game s scenario might
be too specific to say it could exist in the real world, but how plausible would it be for a hacker to
access a major metropolitan information security system if it was

China s An Ambitious Negotiation At An Early Stage
completely understandable, of course, that the Chinese government felt unable to commit to such an
ambitious negotiation at an early stage. China has been informed and is up to date on the TPP, but has
not made a push to join the agreement. China does not meet the required high standards of which the
TPP demands from its members. As Peter K. Yu, the author of TPP and the Trans Pacific Perplexities,
explains that, ... it makes sense to exclude China from the negotiations.... China continues to struggle
with a wide variety of internal problems despite having join the international trading body.... these
problems have included...significant losses suffered by inefficient state owned enterprises...massive
urban migration, widespread unemployment, corruption... Like many developing countries China still
has its fair share of challenges to face. These are not the only factors that stand to hinder China from
entering the TPP. Yu, also points out that, [I]f China were to join the TPP agreement... it w[ould] have
to comply with the discipline on state owned enterprises (SOEs)... SOEs are of great political as well
as economic significance in China, it would be impossible for China to accede to such demands.

of capitalism . Since China is such large economy, there may also have been some fear that

Solution Essay On World Hunger
First of all, what exactly causes the global hunger crisis and what has been put in place to help fix this
problem? The problem itself is best understood by saying One of the greatest challenges this world
faces is how to ensure that a growing population... has enough foods to meet their needs. (Business
Insider) The report also states that in order to have enough food for the estimated 10 billion people in
the year 2050, food production must increase by 50% globally. Also in the report by Business Insider,
statistics proved that in areas of greater conflict and fluctuation in climate the problem of world
hunger is harshest. Another reason for the world hunger epidemic is food availability. Food
availability has been affected through reduced import capacity while access of food has deteriorated in
part due to fiscal potential to protect poor households against rising domestic food prices (BI). This
makes sense because due to the climate changes like drought, an entire season of crops could be
ruined and leave thousands without food and with no other way to get it. The drought has caused
remaining crops to be sold at insanely high prices, high enough that the poor population cannot get the
food that they need. The negative effect that war has on food production is that the men that are
supposed to farm and grow the crops for many in their city and country to eat either have to stop what
they are doing and join the war or sell their food to the war efforts. The latter takes

The Church Of England Was Only A Half R
Jessica Annobil
Mrs Harris
The Church of England was only a half reformed church in the period 1559 1603 . To what extent is
this statement valid? (45marks)
This statement is valid to a considerable extent. This is due to the fact that before Elizabeth came to
the throne her siblings had been before her, Edward VI (1547 53) and Mary I (1553 59), these two had
a contrasting religious beliefs and both implemented harsh penalties for those who did not conform to
their religious reform. This is one aspect of the Mid Tudor crisis which then creates a problem for
Elizabeth in enforcing religion successfully as Parliament now consisted of both
Catholics and Protestants. It is for this reason that some may consider the Church of England to be ...

treasonable to be a Catholic priest. This shows the contradictions to the religious system due to the
Elizabethan Religious Settlement s failure to establish a state religion. This control of Protestant
gentry in Parliament, referred to by J. Neale as a Puritan Choir , suggested that there was grid lock
within Parliament due to remnants of Edward VI s Protestant Parliament in addition to Queen
Mary I s Catholic addition, meaning decisions would be hard to make and religious reform would take
time. As a result, we see there is a lot of proposed reform during the middle years of
Elizabeth s reign, however very few of the proposed legislation is passed, for example in 1571 2 there
were bills introduced proposing further reform but none were passed. This shows that though the
radical Protestants had attempted to push for reforms, Elizabeth I had blocked some, suggesting she
did not want to reform the Church of England using the radical Protestant ideals.
Though Elizabeth s aim was to return England to the Protestant faith, she declared that she did not
want to make windows into men s souls , meaning she didn t care what people thought or believed, as
long as they were outwardly Church of England rather than Catholic. Suggesting
Elizabeth I may not have wanted to set a harsh doctrine in which people had to follow, as Mary I

Medicine And Placebos Pills Treat Migraine Headaches
Placebos are used as a form of treatment for patients; placebos offer no medication but seem to relieve
patents of the pain and symptoms they have (Seymour, 2011). Medication has down sides, such as
creating drug dependencies and increased tolerance for the drug resulting in a decrease in the amount
of success that drug has to treat the pain. Placebos offer a medicine free treatment to help patients deal
with pain. Many studies have been done to examine the difference between medicine and placebos
pills to treat migraine headaches. Placebos have been found to have similar pain relieving effects to
medicine, without the harmful risks the medication has (Seymour, 2011). Title
Placebos were first introduced into the medical world in the late 18th century (Seymour, 2011).
Placebos are used as a therapeutic procedure that affects a patient and removes symptoms of an illness
or pain by giving them a sham pill with no actual medication in it (Seymour, 2011). A placebo effect is
therefore a change in the patient s symptoms or illness after a placebo is given (Seymour, 2011). A
nocebo on the other hand, is the negative equivalent of the placebo effect; when a patient expects a
negative outcome of a treatment he or she will experience the undesirable outcome that was expected
(Benedetti, Durando, Vighetti, 2014). Both placebo and nocebo effects can be provoked by observing
others, which causes the release of several neurotransmitters, such as opioid, endocannabinoids and

The Great Gatsby By William Shakespeare
Arranged marriages have been instituted for centuries in order to link families together for wealth,
dominion, and peace. In the late 1500 s, William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet became famous for
its writing style and storyline. A true romance story consisting of defying the family s wishes of an
arranged marriage to be accompanied by the true love of their life. In Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet
love was a dynamic force that eventually brought about the death of both Romeo and Juliet. Nearly
300 years later F. Scott Fitzgerald explores the similar dominance of love in his novel The Great
Gatsby. Comparable to Romeo and Juliet many characters in The Great Gatsby exploit their marriage
in order to be with another lover. In The Great Gatsby the desire for love of an outside companion to
one s marriage inevitably generates misery in the lives of those who partake. Throughout The Great
Gatsby, Myrtle Wilson, Daisy Buchanan, and Jay Gatsby and all experience agony from committing or
contributing to affairs. These characters have such a desire for love that it proposes they would die for
it.
Confined by heartache and jealousy, Myrtle Wilson guiltily experiences anguish from her passionate

the ability to purchase back bonds at a discount or par value, which is less than market value. So in
essence, companies wait for interest rates go down, which in effect increases the value of the bond. *
Creates a lot of ambiguity amongst investors. It becomes of game of beat the Interest rate clock, in
that you are uncertain as to when your bonds are going to be purchased back from the company, thus
never knowing the duration of your investment and the extent of your interest payments/profit.

How Does Reality Tv Affect American Culture
On cable nowadays, whether you re watching a movie or a TV show, there are about four to five
minutes of commercials. Most commercials were seen on tv consist of new reality TV shows. If not
new, it could date back to the 1940 s. Although, the shows that were airing years ago were much less
indecent. It honestly seems that reality TV continues to go downhill. In this research paper, I will be
talking about the negative effects of reality television on its viewers and how it affects the American
culture of today s society.
People may disagree and say there are positive effects, I realize that. On the contrary, the negative
effects seem to outnumber the positive effects. Reality TV stars are becoming huge role models with
teenagers, rather parents ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Reality TV is most definitely a reflection on our society today. There are multiple ways it can affect
our daily lives. Whether you re watching episodes of a regular show or an episode of reality TV, today
we feel it is necessary to talk about it with the people we wouldn t normally interact with. Many
people are addicted to watching all types of shows, and the internet just allows people to talk about it
with different fans or peers. We allow these shows to take over much more of our lives. In other
countries, our reality TV shows make us seem ignorant. Most of these shows don t give off a positive
view of America s society. Thus, when other countries see our reality TV shows that are real they are
not having a positive feedback. Seems as if these shows are driving younger people to become obsess
with money and fame. Many people have been one to say they would love to leave their chances of
getting a good education if they could just become a star on a reality television show and make lots of
money. That just shows that it makes young kids believe it s okay to be put onto a television show for
some stupid reason to just make money. Networks should be putting on educational reality television
shows, thus showing other countries that we are not as ignorant as we seem and maybe then reality
shows will not be as bad of an influence on

Memory Loss In Memento
Memento has a distinct, unique structure. The movie title demonstrates and describes how the story is
governed by past particles, rather than plain memory. By working backwards, Christopher Nolan
(director) unveils the process in which Leonard (Guy Pearce) attempts to find the man who raped and
murdered his now dead wife. The catch of it all is Leonard suffers from a special form of short term
memory loss which is not treatable. The extraordinary frame work lures you into each moment, as if
you re figuring out what Leonard wrote on paper and his body. Due to his memory loss condition, he
writes notes as soon as he knows the timely, crucial information. Leonard believes someones memory

Essay about Short Story
Short Story
It was lying there, the battered and torn body. There was a moment of silence as detective David
Whittle and I stared at the body. I could not understand how this had occurred.
It had been a fairly quiet day at the station until I had received a phone call from a distressed mother,
pleading for us to help. Her voice was hard to understand as she was crying so hard. I traced the call to
a small village just on the edge of Brighton, called Linden where a Miss Hutton lived. I had visited
Linden before as one of my old friends lived there. It was a quiet little town, which had nothing
special about it. It was not far by car but I was confused as to why we were going there, as the ...

just been murdered .
Murdered you say .
She was still sulking as she said yes
Did you see the murderer? I asked.
She did not reply but just broke down in tears. Immediately our attention was drawn to the skid marks
we had seen on our entry to the house. We examined them and David, being a vehicle expert
recognised that they had been left by a transit van. The name Gary popped into mind when he said
transit van as he had been known to speed around the local village, and I have arrested him on many
occasions. He was a short black haired chubby man who had a distinctive scar down the left side of
his face. He always wore jeans that were ripped at the bottom, and he had small brown boots. He was
in his middle thirties and was not married.
David and I sat in our car and decided to ring the police station and tell them to look for the name

Theme Of Good Country People And Everyday Use
We all know that education, more than anything else, improves our chances of building better lives,
said the great Nelson Mandela. The recurring theme of using education being used as power is
significantly prevalent in the short stories Good Country People by Flannery O Connor, and Everyday
Use by Alice Walker. In the short story Good Country People, Joy (the protagonist, later referred to as
Hulga) holds the center of attention. She has been exceptionally educated. In fact, she holds a doctoral

of the most challenging tasks that the world has to offer. With her formal education, she feels as

Career Of AAutomotive Technician
Career College Research Paper I would like to be an automotive technician. Automotive technicians
inspect, maintain, and repair vehicles. I chose this this career because I have worked on cars since I
was young. Not many people want to be an automotive technician. As a result, there are more jobs
available than there are qualified technician. Most automotive technicians work in good environments.
Automotive technicians work in a well ventilated and lit repair shops or some will work in the pits at a
racetrack but, these locations can be very Tumultuous. I hope to be working in the pits. Technicians
work full time hours and overtime is common. Technicians can work in many urban areas, including
dealerships, and independent shops. Automotive technicians must first, show up a few minutes early.
In these ten minutes or so, they should unlock their toolbox, clean their work bay and tools, and check
their emails if necessary. Then they should open up the shop, and work on any unfinished projects.
Throughout the day, more work may show up. Depending on the severity of the work, it should either
be set aside until there is time or should be done immediately to get the vehicle back to the customer.
Another job of a technician is to explain the problem, the work to be done, and the cost to the
customer. Customers could easily overreact over a problem that, to the technician, seem simple. It is

Why Global Warming Doesn T Cause Disease Thomas Moore Summary
This world is heating up, and all the fire mix tapes that are getting dropped are not the reason why.
Global warming is a very controversial topic in the first place, but is the idea that it is the cause of
diseases even more disputable? It seems so. Thomas Gale Moore, a Senior Fellow at Stanford
University, wrote an argumentative paper titled Why Global Warming Doesn t Cause Disease , using
sources from the late 1990 s and arguing that The United States Government stating information
concluding that Global warming may cause disease is wrong and should pay attention to the experts
on disease. The information that you will gain from this article is that Global warming is a possible
cause of disease (Moore, n.d).
In the introduction of Thomas Gale Moore s essay, he states that Threats of global warming are
bringing on a plague... infestation we speak of is a plague of misinformation, infecting the public
consciousness and blurring the issue of the effects of climate change on human health in a swarm of
anxiety and confusion . One of his sources states that global warming is not the current problem. It is a
collapse in public health measures, an increase in drug resistance in parasites, and an increase in
pesticide resistance in vector ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

In-Depth Analysis On The Human Condition In English Class
Walking into class the first day of the second semester, I did not expect one thing: that this classroom
would soon become a location of in depth analyses on the human condition. Unlike many English
classes I have had in the past, English 20 has given me new perspectives into what it means to be
human by looking at how other people (primarily authors and directors) view the human condition.
The first baby step towards discovering my personal definition of the human condition was an
assignment wherein we were asked to watch multiple videos. Those videos ranged from music videos
to inspirational speeches to excerpts from books (1.1.2). This range of mediums broadened the
messages in the videos, as it forced me to respond differently to the information

New England, Middle, And Southern Colonies
There were many different early American colonies. The settlers in these colonies came from many
different places such as; England, France, Spain, and The Netherlands. Also, the settlers in these
colonies settled for many different reasons. The New England, Middle, and Southern colonies
developed a different way of life because of differences in aspects of life such as; government,
religion, and geography.
To begin, the New England, Middle, and Southern colonies developed a different way of life because
of differences in aspects of life such as government. A quote from the document Should Government
be based on religion? (document b) is, Why government should be based on religion (...) authority
from God. This quote is from founder of one of the New England colonies and he is saying that the
New England colonies have religion based on god because god is giving them authority to do
everything. Another quote to support this claim from the textbook History Alive on page 55 is, Middle
colony(...) government: self governing. This quote is showing that in the middle colonies they had a
self governing government or the government was based off the people and less off of a god leading
them. These two quotes tie back to the claim because it shows how the government was different from
the Middle colonies (based off the people) to the New England colonies (based off religion). Also, the
way a place is ran will cause the people to act and do things differently, overall

The Mandatory Minimum Sentencing Laws
Abstract Ben Whishaw once said, The criminal justice system, like any system designed by human
beings, clearly has its flaws. For many years, the criminal justice system has been criticized for its
many problems and errors; one in particular that caught my attention was the mandatory minimum
sentencing laws. These laws basically set minimum sentences for certain crimes that judges cannot
lower, even for extenuating circumstances. The most common of these laws deal with drug offenses
and set mandatory minimum sentences for possession of a drug over a certain amount. Sentencing
procedures can vary from jurisdiction to Jurisdiction. Most of these laws are ineffective and causes
unnecessary jail overcrowding. Over the years ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, there was a case back in 2013 in Alabama where a 76 year old man, Lee Carroll
Brooker, was convicted of drug trafficking last year, and a judge sentenced him to life without parole
because of past robbery convictions in Florida. His son was also convicted. ( Roy Moore: Life
Sentence for Drug Violation Shows grave Flaw in Sentencing. AL.com. N.p., n.d. Web. 04 Dec. 2015.)
Brooker lived with his son in Houston County, and court documents show police found a marijuana
growing operation there during a search in 2013. Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore released a
statement on this case as the Supreme Court refused to overturn the case. I mean really, this is just
crazy how a petty drug offense can get a man life in prison and some other fool is let off easy, after
committing an armed robbery. The problem with LSD specifically is that it comes in many forms. For
instance, if a person is holding 1 hit of liquid LSD that is placed on a strawberry can get up to 10 years
in jail whereas another person with 100 hits of acid in paper form may not even get a mandatory
sentence if it weighs under a gram. The whole point behind the legislation comes in response to the
American public s desire to crack down on those who sell drugs. According to The USCC (U.S.
Sentencing Commission), fifty five percent of all federal drug defendants are low level offenders, such
as mules or street dealers.

Standardized Tests Argument
Standardized tests argument Do we really need 20 25 hours for testing? Some people think testing is
fine the way it is. I think testing needs a change. We spend way too much time doing standardized
tests that don t even measure the skills people need in life. My main pieces of evidence are, the
government is suggesting shorter tests, many other factors can affect standardized test scores, and my
last piece of evidence is standardized tests don t measure all the skills people need in life. My first
piece of evidence is the government is suggesting shorter tests. Kids spend on average 20 25 hours

One thing standardized tests doesn t measure is creativity, or how well we think about it. Another
thing is verbal skills, it doesn t measure how well we speak or read. We ve been taking the same IQ

paragraph explains that standardized tests don t measure all the skills people need in life. Some people
believe the test does not need to be changed and that it is just fine. 20 25 hours of testing is just the
right amount of testing to give the correct data. I think not, it still does not measure life skills and it is
way too long. So now you know why the test needs changing. This essay explains why we need

buying, and leasing houses; has 299 agents in 13 offices. The residential real estate industry is
influenced by the ups and downs of the economy. In good times it fuels consumers confidence and
spending, and in bad times consumers are cautious and not willing to invest in a house etc. CBPRO

(especially locally), coupled with fluctuating national economic conditions, and narrowly defined
target customers, CBPRO faced several distinctive challenges; residential and clients lists were
important to CBPRO business and to its competitors, especially the local competitors.

Cézanne
As for what I learned during this unit, Cézanne was a father of cubism when cubism was unknown!
Therefore, as he uses geometric shapes, we can find a same draw style in Matisse s paint and Picasso
too. Of course, Picasso had influenced from that style, but he used to exaggerate more these geometric
shapes!
In fact, between paints of Joy of Life and The Large Bathers, for example we find similarities as both
of them used a landscape in their paints, then in both works trees are planted at the sides and in the far
distance, and their upper boughs are spread apart like curtains, highlighting the figures lounging
beneath. In addition, like Cézanne, Matisse unifies the figures and the landscape. Cézanne does this by
stiffening and tilting his trunk like figures. In Matisse s work, the serpentine arabesques that define the
contours of the women are heavily emphasized, and then reiterated in the curvilinear lines of the trees

Forest Fires
FOREST FIRES
A forestfire is any uncontrolled fire in combustible vegetation that occurs in the countryside or a
wilderness area.[1][2] Other names such as brush fire, bushfire, forest fire, grass fire, hill fire, peat
fire, vegetation fire, veldfire, and wildland fire may be used to describe the same phenomenon
depending on the type of vegetation being burned. A wildfire differs from other fires by its extensive
size, the speed at which it can spread out from its original source, its potential to change direction
unexpectedly, and its ability to jump gaps such as roads, rivers and fire breaks.[3] Forest fires are
characterized in terms of the cause of ignition, their physical properties such as speed of propagation,

This fuel type is especially susceptible to ignition due to spotting. Ground fires typically burn by
smoldering, and can burn slowly for days to months, such as peat fires in Kalimantan and Eastern
Sumatra, Indonesia, which resulted from a riceland creation project that unintentionally drained and
dried the peat.[29][30] * Crawling or surface fires are fueled by low lying vegetation such as leaf and
timber litter, debris, grass, and low lying shrubbery.[31] * Ladder fires consume material between low
level vegetation and tree canopies, such as small trees, downed logs, and vines. Kudzu, Old World
climbing fern, and other invasive plants that scale trees may also encourage ladder fires.[32] * Crown,
canopy, or aerial fires burn suspended material at the canopy level, such as tall trees, vines, and
mosses. The ignition of a crown fire, termed crowning, is dependent on the density of the suspended
material, canopy height, canopy continuity, and sufficient surface and ladder fires in order to reach the
tree crowns.[33] For example, ground clearing fires lit by humans can spread into the Amazon rain
forest, damaging ecosystems not particularly suited for heat or arid conditions.[34]

Forest fires occur when all of the necessary elements of a fire triangle come together in a wooded
area: an ignition source is brought into contact with a

The Russian Transitional Economy Essay
SBEJ review paper Comments to the Author The paper tackles an important and interesting topic such
as Barriers to Entrepreneurship. The context of investigation in the Russian transitional economy adds
value to the paper too. However, here are some of the major comments 1. The original element of the
paper is use of use of Double Bind Situation (DBS) theory to explain the entrepreneurial behavior in
an extreme environment of transition. In particular, the paper does greater in terms of addressing the
interactions of entrepreneurs and state individuals using DBST. Use of this theory to explain
entrepreneurial behavior is important contribution to the field. 2. The review of entrepreneurship
literature dealing with barriers is very brief. Author(s) should discuss more critically this literature by
pointing some limitations. For example, paper argues that several authors have conceived of barriers
as static while there is no discussion of some recent studies that use panel data technique, add dynamic
component in their analysis, and of course overcome some of limitations of previous cross sectional
studies. The studies, analysis in the theoretical part are based on the cross sectional. 3. Data and
method needs some more careful details and discussion. First, there is no clear discussion how the
sample of qualitative interviews was selected. This is very critical for implications of the study and its
limitations. 4. Author(s) claim that businesses for the study were either

The Allied Force Operational Level Joint Functions During...
Following their success in North Africa, the Allied decision to invade Sicily was an appropriate next
step towards defeating Axis powers. Operation HUSKY, the first phase of the Italian campaign,
supported the Allied strategic goals of opening Mediterranean shipping lanes, diverting German forces
off of the Eastern front and encouraging Italy to exit the Axis. HUSKY resulted in Allied Forces
securing the island, despite leadership failures and the ineffective coordination of joint functions at the
operational level. A two part analysis of the Allied Force operational level joint functions during
Operation HUSKY follows. The first will evaluate the joint function of command and control using
the three attributes of mission command from joint doctrine: commander s intent, mutual trust, and
understanding. The second will evaluate the integration of two of the remaining joint functions using
the definition of integration from joint doctrine. The Joint Force Commander (JFC) utilizes command
and control to exercise authority over assigned and attached forces within his or her command.
Command provides direction and motivation to individuals and units, whereas control is the task of
managing forces and the associated tasks required to accomplish the mission. Effective command and
control successfully balances the art of command with the science of control and strengthens the
commander s ability to make and execute decisions. Mission command advances command and

that he is seen as being less than human. There is a lot of secrecy in this novel particularly with Dr.

  • 2. Andrew Jackson Andrew Jackson, the seventh president of the United Stated of America, was born on March 15, 1767 and died on June 8, 1845 in Nashville, Tennessee. Jackson s parents Andrew and Elizabeth Hutchinson Jackson were Presyberitains, Scots Irish settlers whom in 1765 emigrated from Ireland. Andrew s birthplace is deduced to have been at one of his uncles houses in the Waxhaw s area between North Carolina and South Carolina, his exact whereabouts is unknown. Jackson s mother emigrated across the Appalachian Mountains after burying her husband. Jackson s father died three weeks before he was born in a logging accident. His mother, Elizabeth Hutchinson Jackson was a strong independent woman who was able to raise her three sons while they lived ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He moved to Salisbury, North Carolina, where he studied law by apprenticing with prominent lawyers. In September 1787, after three years of studying law, Jackson was admitted to the North Carolina Bar and received his license to practice law in Jonesborough (now part in Tennessee). To supplement his income, he also worked in small town general stores. While living in North Carolina, Jackson gained a reputation for being charismatic, wild, and ambitious. (The Jackson Family, www.thehermitage.com/jackson family/andrew jackson/early life) pg1. Jackson married Rachel Donelson in 1794. Rachel had been previously married to Lewis Robards on March 1, 1785. In 1790 she was living an unhappy marriage because of Lewis unreasonable jealousy and completely departed from him. She then moved back with her mother to Nashville, Tennessee where she had already met Andrew in November of 1788. They got married in 1791 but she discovered she wasn t actually divorced so they got remarried in 1794. On December 22, 1828, two months before Jackson s presidential inauguration, Rachel died of a heart attack. Jackson and Rachel had no biological children but always lived at The Hermitage an expansive plantation in Davidson County, Tennessee (near Nashville). In 1808, they adopted one set of twins from Rachel s brother Stevern Donelson and his wife Elizabeth and raised him as their own. They named him Andrew Jackson Junior. • 3. The Dance Team-Personal Narrative It was it. Today was the day that all of our hard work and preparation would matter. Weeks of conditioning and giving up our social lives to train were finally put to work. It was it. It was the NLL championship track meet. Right from when I woke up the day felt different. My stomach churned and all I could think about was how much I wanted to win. I could barely eat because my nerves were nibbling away at me. As I was getting driven to school, I kept picturing my running strategy in my head. I had two races tonight, the 400 meter dash and the 4x400 relay. Our relay team had put in hours of work. Our handoffs were now nearly seamless, and we knew tonight was going to be our run. The rest off the school day went on as typical , but the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My mind was cleared and all I could think off was passing people. Before I knew it, I was halfway around the track and my coach was screaming Dig! Digggggg!! . I shot myself forward and kept this pace. Now it was the last straight away, and I gave it all of my energy I had left. Crossing the finish line felt great, even though I did not race nearly as well as I had wanted to. I was just happy to be there. Over the announcements soon after I heard that I had gotten seventh overall and I was very happy. There were so many girls in the NLL and I placed 7th out of all the 400 meter dash runners. Plus, I always had next year. Now, it was time for the race I was most excited for, the 4x400. It was the same distance as my previous run, but our relay had a shot of winning the title of first. We all got in the infield and practiced our handoffs. They had to perfect, seamless and quick. The difference between a good and bad handoff could cost us first place. Our event was last, so we cheered on our team as they completed theirs. Looking at the scoreboard so far, we knew there was no chance we could come back and win with only the few events we had left. That didn t matter though, because we had to show we don t give up and do what we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Hero s Journey Of Heroes Summary Max Donnelly Mr. McQueary English 4 period 2 8 19 15 The Adventure of the Hero (Part One) Prologue In The Hero with a Thousand Faces, Joseph Campbell dives into his theory that every culture s myths share a sense of universality. In other words, all the myths of each culture stem from a common ancestor, or idea. Campbell shows a very headstrong opinion on his theory, as if it is a universal truth that cannot be altered because this theme will always be the one, shape shifting yet marvelously constant story that we find. His use of the word shape shifting insinuates that these myths are different but simply changing slight form from the original, which is not an actual myth but a collection of similar myths. The prologue lays out a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the Oedipus myth a theme that a son wants to follow his father s behaviors while loving his mother. The son in this story unknowingly murders his father in battle before marrying his own mother, which he did not know was his mother. Campbell believes that all myths share three common steps in the Hero s journey: Separation initiation return: which might be named the nuclear unit of the monomyth. One way this is enforced is through the Buddha s journey. He goes through temptation followed by transcendence. Then, the Buddha returns to society with enlightenment. Also, the authors referencing of other cultures, in particular North American society, is often hidden but it still has a strong presence and message. Without a stronger awareness and deeper meaning, the society is doomed. The prologue ends with Campbell s view of The World Navel, which all things, in particular mythology, stems from a common image/ source. All ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Gender Stereotypes And The Socialization Process Gender Stereotypes and the Socialization Process The pursuit of gender equality is a central element of a vision of sustainability in which every Member of Society respects others and plays a role that allows you to take advantage of their potential to the fullest. The broad goal of gender equality is a social goal that education and other social institutions should contribute. Gender discrimination is embed in the fabric of societies. In many societies, women bear the main burden of food production and child rearing. Also, women are often excluded from the family or Community decisions that affect their lives and well being. The Parents stereotyped by the gender Classified by gender expectations can occur regarding personality traits (for example, children are aggressive), skills (for example, girls are good for reading), activities, and roles (for example, men are scientists). While gender equality has increased in many cultures over the past decades, there has been a parallel growth in adults regarding the adoption of attitudes that reflect gender equality. Now there is more variation among parents; some have traditional expectations and others expressing expectations equal to their daughters and sons. Similarly, some parents can support egalitarian views on certain fields (e.g. occupations) but are still more traditional concerning other areas (for example, family roles). Finally, parents (especially men) tend to be more rigid in their expectations for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Eugene Delacroix Heroic Figures And The Status Viatoris... McCann, Carmen L. 2006. Eugene Delacroix s Heroic Figures and the Status Viatoris. Constructions Of Death, Mourning Memory Conference, October 27 29, 2006: Proceedings 29 32. McCann argues that Eugene Delacroix included status viatoris, representations of a state between life and death, in his works and discusses their importance to depicting a heroic death. This chapter looks at Delacroix s works, including Liberty Leading the People from, multiple approaches, including biography, social history, and semiotics. They begin by looking at Delacroix s biography and his connection with the revolution he painted. McCann then goes into the social history by addressing not only those who participated in the revolution and are thus depicted in the painting, but also looking at the motivation for starting revolution. He then goes on to look at the lack iconography usually associated with death on the lying figures in the foreground and the implication that within specifically marking them as dead, the bodies exist in a place between life and death. This semiotic, post structuralist approach is useful when engaging with this painting because it allows for multiple interpretations and readings of heroic death in Delacroix s work. The intersection of all three approaches provide strong evidence for McCann s argument. They prove to be a useful combination when approaching Delacriox s Liberty Leading the People. Mora, Stephanie. Delacroix s Art Theory and His Definition of Classicism. Journal of Aesthetic Education 34, no. 1 (2000): 57 75. This article looks broadly at Delacroix s body of work and provides many approaches. The two most prominent approaches used would have to be social history and biography, but given the time period and subject matter of many of Delacroix s work, it is not surprising that these two would be popular. Mora does a good job at addressing the issue of self perception by looking at how Delacroix like to depict himself not only in his paintings, but his writings as well. Through this conversation, she challenges the use of psychoanalysis as an approach to Delacroix work and highlights how using his self fashioning as evidence does not hold up for a strong analysis. • 7. Kohlberg s Theory Of The Development Of Moral Judgement Critically Evaluate Kohlberg s Theory of the Development of Moral Judgement Lawrence Kohlberg (1927 1987) further developed the works of Piaget (1896 1980) on moral development. This essay will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of Kohlberg s theory in a critical manner, looking at the positive aspects of his research and the disadvantages of the types of situations he gave in his experiments, the universal accuracy of his results and the controversial findings of sex differences in regards to morality. Kohlberg advanced Piaget s theory of moral development by interviewing 10 13 year old boys to find out how they would attempt to resolve moral issues. These issues varied between situations that involved obeying the law, authority ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although the universal support for Kohlberg s theory is impressive, it does not actually prove that people went through all the stages in the same order that Kohlberg predicted they would. As these participants were not monitored throughout every stage of their life we cannot be certain that they all went through the same stages in the same order, all we can defer from this is that people seem to be at the stages that Kohlberg predicted they would be at. However Ann Colby and Colleagues (1983) did do a longitudinal study where they interviewed Kohlberg s original participants five times over three to four year intervals, lasting for twenty years in total. The results of the study showed that all the participants went through the stages in the same order, never skipping a stage. These findings offer strong evidence to support Kohlberg s theory of moral development as, unlike the previous study mentioned, there is now longitudinal evidence to support that these stages happen in the same order in many people, and not just assuming that it happened like in Kohlberg s original study (Shaffer Kipp, 2007). However, there are limits to how far Kohlberg s theory of morality can be taken. When doing the research to develop his theory Kohlberg only interviewed male participants, completely ignoring the possibility that females could have a different outlook on morality to males. Carol Gilligan (1982, 1993) recognised that this was an issue with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is an animated show centered on the Smiths, who live in Langley Falls in Northern Virginia with their unusual family, which includes an alien named Roger. This show has been on the air since 2005, and is about to premiere its thirteenth season. Since there are so many seasons, and so many episodes, I chose to focus on one episode from their first season, entitled Not Particularly Desperate Housewives. Hidden beneath obvious stereotypes, there are ideas of power, as well as patriarchal norms and male gaze theory. Also touched upon is the self identity, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Men will identify with Stan, because as a hyper masculinized person, he represents how a stereotypical male should be. This is also in line with narcissistic voyeurism, because as a man, one might identify with the primary character, because one sees oneself in Stan s character. Stan is portrayed as a competitive, goal oriented, authoritative and active male which matched Mulvey s description of how masculinity is recognized. Since this is very evident in the show, it also points to patriarchal norms which show Stan as the leader of the household while Francine is always waiting around to serve him. In one example in this episode, the family is sitting down to dinner. Since it is Wednesday, it was meant to be leftover night. However, Francine wanted to switch it up and made lasagna instead. Stan gets very angry and declares that there will be no dinner that evening because it was leftover night, not lasagna night. This drives Francine to have to follow her husband s instructions instead of doing things for herself. It portrayed Stan as in charge of the family, and showed that what the dominant male wanted was what the dominant male, as well as everyone else, was going to get. These patriarchal norms are exactly what Francine is trying to escape from when she tries to join the Ladybugs. However, the episode resolves without ever talking about how Stan is always in control, and instead they go back to the way it was before: with Stan as the leader of the family and everyone else submits to ... • 9. I Am A Big Deal For some, turning thirty is a big deal. For Opera Atelier turning thirty is an outstanding accomplishment few companies could ever compare or measure up to. Moreover, retrofitting Purcell s Dido and Aeneas seven times in the companies history is a creative feat unto itself. I first became familiar with Opera Atelier in the 1990 s. A time when it was still considered to be an indy opera company . Fortunately, that label has changed and I ve been able to witness the companies progression. I have attended three of their Dido productions and must admit, this was not my favorite for a number of reasons. So, how does a company like Opera Atelier reinvent a period piece that was initially staged in the basement of an all girls school, at a time when the gods were a part of recent history, and music so boring it could send one to sleep? Perhaps it would be best to understand OA s genetic makeup. The artistic directors are just as passionate about their company as they were twenty years ago. Not only was their joy for storytelling effervescent but their commitment to the aesthetic vision even more. On a warm Saturday afternoon, the theatre fills with an impressive audience. A number of tourists catch a last minute performance, parents, children, adults, students, and the Tafelmusik Orchestra s dedicated fans (some of which appeared in period dress). • 10. Religion In The Canterbury Tales The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer is a number of stories put together. The narrator is the author himself. The stories are told by pilgrims who are headed to Canterbury to visit the remains of Thomas a Becket. The character the Host insists that everyone tells two stories. One on the way there and one on the way back to make the trip less tiresome. There are some important details to understand when reading the poem. The first one is the values of the people in the middle ages. The people s values consist of chivalry, feudalism, Thomas Becket and religion. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Roman Catholic Church became corrupt after Thomas Becket died, but he also had a major impact on the church and the pilgrims. One obvious example is how the pilgrims go on a journey to a sacred place. His death caused members of the clergy to take unprecedented liberties leading to corruption in the church. An example of a religious character is the Pardoner. The Pardoner represents the corruption of the church because he is a dishonest person. The Pardoner says I preach for nothing but for greed or gain (98). This shows he is only in for the money. It also shows that the relics he sells is fake. He sells fake relics just to get money from the others. He takes the last coin of an old and poor widow without any guilt. He also tells a moral story about greed, but yet he is just as greedy. Out come the penece, and specially for myself, for my exclusive purpose is to win and not at all to castigate their sin (76 78). This quote shows his greed and shows how corrupt he is to his people. Chaucer also demonstrates christian aspects through his characters by announcing the monk, nun, and the friar. All three, are figures that are embodied in a church. Chaucer uses blatant satire in his characters to show how corrupt the church is. We can tell Chaucer understands the meaning of Christianity. Mere Christianity Summary Mere Christianity (Lewis, 1952), as a revised and improved edition, with a new introduction, of the three books Broadcast Talks (1942), Christian Behavior (1943), and Beyond Personality (1944), seeks to explain and defend the believe that is common to Christians at all times. The book focused on its objective to present the mere crux of Christianity, which the author referred to as Mere Christianity, and explicitly did that in four distinctive books: Right and Wrong as a Clue to Meaning of the Universe; What Christian Believe; Christian Behavior; and Beyond Personality (first step in the doctrine of the trinity). To address the subject Right and Wrong as a Clue to Meaning of the Universe, the (Lewis, 1952) stated that, first, that human beings, all over the earth, have this curious idea that they ought to behave in a certain way, and cannot really get rid of it. The Threat Of Large Scale Information Security Breaches This paper will discuss the possibility of large scale information security breaches, the hardware and software hacked, the hardware and software needed to perform a real time attack, and the consequences with performing such an attack. This paper will first define any related terms, then describe the information security systems seen in the WATCH_DOGS video game, then discuss the various hardware and software involved in an attack in regards to the game and real life, and finally conclude with whether or not the concepts in WATCH_DOGS are realistic and possible today. Introduction In the information age of today, the information security is one of the more prevalent issues that drive information security professionals and computer technicians to build smarter and stronger software and hardware. In the virtual world of video games, where the effects of something as devastating as a security breach have no real world repercussions, information security can still be a serious topic. One of a popular video game publisher s new titles that have been released recently has taken the realistic fear of information security and made it into an interesting adventure, where the main protagonist is every credit card owner s worst nightmare: a hacker. Granted, the game s scenario might be too specific to say it could exist in the real world, but how plausible would it be for a hacker to access a major metropolitan information security system if it was ... • 15. Solution Essay On World Hunger First of all, what exactly causes the global hunger crisis and what has been put in place to help fix this problem? The problem itself is best understood by saying One of the greatest challenges this world faces is how to ensure that a growing population... has enough foods to meet their needs. (Business Insider) The report also states that in order to have enough food for the estimated 10 billion people in the year 2050, food production must increase by 50% globally. Also in the report by Business Insider, statistics proved that in areas of greater conflict and fluctuation in climate the problem of world hunger is harshest. Another reason for the world hunger epidemic is food availability. Food availability has been affected through reduced import capacity while access of food has deteriorated in part due to fiscal potential to protect poor households against rising domestic food prices (BI). This makes sense because due to the climate changes like drought, an entire season of crops could be ruined and leave thousands without food and with no other way to get it. The drought has caused remaining crops to be sold at insanely high prices, high enough that the poor population cannot get the food that they need. The negative effect that war has on food production is that the men that are supposed to farm and grow the crops for many in their city and country to eat either have to stop what they are doing and join the war or sell their food to the war efforts. The latter takes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is due to the fact that before Elizabeth came to the throne her siblings had been before her, Edward VI (1547 53) and Mary I (1553 59), these two had a contrasting religious beliefs and both implemented harsh penalties for those who did not conform to their religious reform. But it was still not Jessica Annobil Mrs Harris treasonable to be a Catholic priest. This shows the contradictions to the religious system due to the Elizabethan Religious Settlement s failure to establish a state religion. This control of Protestant gentry in Parliament, referred to by J. Neale as a Puritan Choir , suggested that there was grid lock within Parliament due to remnants of Edward VI s Protestant Parliament in addition to Queen Mary I s Catholic addition, meaning decisions would be hard to make and religious reform would take time. As a result, we see there is a lot of proposed reform during the middle years of Elizabeth s reign, however very few of the proposed legislation is passed, for example in 1571 2 there were bills introduced proposing further reform but none were passed. This shows that though the radical Protestants had attempted to push for reforms, Elizabeth I had blocked some, suggesting she did not want to reform the Church of England using the radical Protestant ideals. Though Elizabeth s aim was to return England to the Protestant faith, she declared that she did not want to make windows into men s souls , meaning she didn t care what people thought or believed, as long as they were outwardly Church of England rather than Catholic. Placebos offer a medicine free treatment to help patients deal with pain. Many studies have been done to examine the difference between medicine and placebos pills to treat migraine headaches. Placebos have been found to have similar pain relieving effects to medicine, without the harmful risks the medication has (Seymour, 2011). Placebos are used as a therapeutic procedure that affects a patient and removes symptoms of an illness or pain by giving them a sham pill with no actual medication in it (Seymour, 2011). A placebo effect is therefore a change in the patient s symptoms or illness after a placebo is given (Seymour, 2011). A nocebo on the other hand, is the negative equivalent of the placebo effect; when a patient expects a negative outcome of a treatment he or she will experience the undesirable outcome that was expected (Benedetti, Durando, Vighetti, 2014). This quote is from founder of one of the New England colonies and he is saying that the New England colonies have religion based on god because god is giving them authority to do everything. Another quote to support this claim from the textbook History Alive on page 55 is, Middle colony(...) government: self governing. This quote is showing that in the middle colonies they had a self governing government or the government was based off the people and less off of a god leading them. These two quotes tie back to the claim because it shows how the government was different from the Middle colonies (based off the people) to the New England colonies (based off religion). Also, the way a place is ran will cause the people to act and do things differently, overall ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. The Mandatory Minimum Sentencing Laws Abstract Ben Whishaw once said, The criminal justice system, like any system designed by human beings, clearly has its flaws. For many years, the criminal justice system has been criticized for its many problems and errors; one in particular that caught my attention was the mandatory minimum sentencing laws. These laws basically set minimum sentences for certain crimes that judges cannot lower, even for extenuating circumstances. The most common of these laws deal with drug offenses and set mandatory minimum sentences for possession of a drug over a certain amount. Sentencing procedures can vary from jurisdiction to Jurisdiction. Most of these laws are ineffective and causes unnecessary jail overcrowding. Over the years ... For example, there was a case back in 2013 in Alabama where a 76 year old man, Lee Carroll Brooker, was convicted of drug trafficking last year, and a judge sentenced him to life without parole because of past robbery convictions in Florida. His son was also convicted. ( Roy Moore: Life Sentence for Drug Violation Shows grave Flaw in Sentencing. AL.com. N.p., n.d. Web. 04 Dec. 2015.) Brooker lived with his son in Houston County, and court documents show police found a marijuana growing operation there during a search in 2013. Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore released a statement on this case as the Supreme Court refused to overturn the case. I mean really, this is just crazy how a petty drug offense can get a man life in prison and some other fool is let off easy, after committing an armed robbery. The problem with LSD specifically is that it comes in many forms. For instance, if a person is holding 1 hit of liquid LSD that is placed on a strawberry can get up to 10 years in jail whereas another person with 100 hits of acid in paper form may not even get a mandatory sentence if it weighs under a gram. The whole point behind the legislation comes in response to the American public s desire to crack down on those who sell drugs. According to The USCC (U.S. Sentencing Commission), fifty five percent of all federal drug defendants are low level offenders, such as mules or street dealers. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We spend way too much time doing standardized tests that don t even measure the skills people need in life. My main pieces of evidence are, the government is suggesting shorter tests, many other factors can affect standardized test scores, and my last piece of evidence is standardized tests don t measure all the skills people need in life. This paragraph explains that standardized tests don t measure all the skills people need in life. Some people believe the test does not need to be changed and that it is just fine. 20 25 hours of testing is just the right amount of testing to give the correct data. I think not, it still does not measure life skills and it is way too long. So now you know why the test needs changing. This essay explains why we need shorter standardized tests. • 35. Cézanne As for what I learned during this unit, Cézanne was a father of cubism when cubism was unknown! Therefore, as he uses geometric shapes, we can find a same draw style in Matisse s paint and Picasso too. Of course, Picasso had influenced from that style, but he used to exaggerate more these geometric shapes! In fact, between paints of Joy of Life and The Large Bathers, for example we find similarities as both of them used a landscape in their paints, then in both works trees are planted at the sides and in the far distance, and their upper boughs are spread apart like curtains, highlighting the figures lounging beneath. In addition, like Cézanne, Matisse unifies the figures and the landscape. Cézanne does this by stiffening and tilting his trunk like figures. In Matisse s work, the serpentine arabesques that define the contours of the women are heavily emphasized, and then reiterated in the curvilinear lines of the trees .(1)( HenriMatisse.org,nd) Regarding Picasso s paint, critics says that this paint was done in reaction of Matisse s paint. • 37. Forest Fires FOREST FIRES A forestfire is any uncontrolled fire in combustible vegetation that occurs in the countryside or a wilderness area.[1][2] Other names such as brush fire, bushfire, forest fire, grass fire, hill fire, peat fire, vegetation fire, veldfire, and wildland fire may be used to describe the same phenomenon depending on the type of vegetation being burned. A wildfire differs from other fires by its extensive size, the speed at which it can spread out from its original source, its potential to change direction unexpectedly, and its ability to jump gaps such as roads, rivers and fire breaks.[3] Forest fires are characterized in terms of the cause of ignition, their physical properties such as speed of propagation, the combustible ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This fuel type is especially susceptible to ignition due to spotting. Ground fires typically burn by smoldering, and can burn slowly for days to months, such as peat fires in Kalimantan and Eastern Sumatra, Indonesia, which resulted from a riceland creation project that unintentionally drained and dried the peat.[29][30] * Crawling or surface fires are fueled by low lying vegetation such as leaf and timber litter, debris, grass, and low lying shrubbery.[31] * Ladder fires consume material between low level vegetation and tree canopies, such as small trees, downed logs, and vines. Kudzu, Old World climbing fern, and other invasive plants that scale trees may also encourage ladder fires.[32] * Crown, canopy, or aerial fires burn suspended material at the canopy level, such as tall trees, vines, and mosses. The ignition of a crown fire, termed crowning, is dependent on the density of the suspended material, canopy height, canopy continuity, and sufficient surface and ladder fires in order to reach the tree crowns.[33] For example, ground clearing fires lit by humans can spread into the Amazon rain forest, damaging ecosystems not particularly suited for heat or arid conditions.[34] Physical properties Forest fires occur when all of the necessary elements of a fire triangle come together in a wooded area: an ignition source is brought into contact with a ... • 38. The Russian Transitional Economy Essay SBEJ review paper Comments to the Author The paper tackles an important and interesting topic such as Barriers to Entrepreneurship. The context of investigation in the Russian transitional economy adds value to the paper too. However, here are some of the major comments 1. The original element of the paper is use of use of Double Bind Situation (DBS) theory to explain the entrepreneurial behavior in an extreme environment of transition. In particular, the paper does greater in terms of addressing the interactions of entrepreneurs and state individuals using DBST. Use of this theory to explain entrepreneurial behavior is important contribution to the field. 2. The review of entrepreneurship literature dealing with barriers is very brief. Author(s) should discuss more critically this literature by pointing some limitations. For example, paper argues that several authors have conceived of barriers as static while there is no discussion of some recent studies that use panel data technique, add dynamic component in their analysis, and of course overcome some of limitations of previous cross sectional studies. The studies, analysis in the theoretical part are based on the cross sectional. 3. Data and method needs some more careful details and discussion. First, there is no clear discussion how the sample of qualitative interviews was selected. This is very critical for implications of the study and its limitations. 4. Following their success in North Africa, the Allied decision to invade Sicily was an appropriate next step towards defeating Axis powers. Operation HUSKY, the first phase of the Italian campaign, supported the Allied strategic goals of opening Mediterranean shipping lanes, diverting German forces off of the Eastern front and encouraging Italy to exit the Axis. HUSKY resulted in Allied Forces securing the island, despite leadership failures and the ineffective coordination of joint functions at the operational level. A two part analysis of the Allied Force operational level joint functions during Operation HUSKY follows. The first will evaluate the joint function of command and control using the three attributes of mission command from joint doctrine: commander s intent, mutual trust, and understanding. The second will evaluate the integration of two of the remaining joint functions using the definition of integration from joint doctrine. The Joint Force Commander (JFC) utilizes command and control to exercise authority over assigned and attached forces within his or her command. Command provides direction and motivation to individuals and units, whereas control is the task of managing forces and the associated tasks required to accomplish the mission. Effective command and control successfully balances the art of command with the science of control and strengthens the commander s ability to make and execute decisions.
