What Is Formative And Summative Assessment
Introduction
Assessment can be the engine of curriculum reform, or the principal impediment to its
implementation (Mary Barnes, 2000) is a thought which is of great debate in the Republic of
Ireland today. Education and curriculum are constantly evolving and often assessment gets left
behind. The relationship between student learning and an effective curriculum lies in the power of
the assessment. One cannot thrive without the other, and one cannot be entirely effective unless the
other is equally as effective.
In this assignment I will explore the types of assessment, particularly formative and summative
assessment which are used worldwide in the classroom. As well as the history of assessment in
Ireland, the newest junior cycle programme and finally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Research has shown that formative assessment is effective in all educational settings (Paul Black,
1998).One major difference between formative assessment and summative assessment is the way in
which formative assessment uses student involvement as an integral pillar. Without student
involvement in the assessment process, formative assessment is not reaching its full potential.
Many research papers have shown that student motivation is dramatically increased when students
are involved in both their own learning and in the learning of others (Pintrich de Groot,
1990).Teachers, however, do not have a sit back role in formative assessment. They are still crucial
to the proper use of this assessment by ways of designing appropriate assessment tasks, identifying
attainable learning goals and outlining clear criteria for student success. One key factor in
formative assessment is the return of feedback to students. Many studies have shown that
substantial learning gains are the outcome of an effective and frequent feedback process from
teacher to student (Wiliam,

The Promise of Pentecost
The Promise of Pentecost
I am going to send you what my Father promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed
with power from on high.
Luke 24:49(NIV)
Since the Old Testament, the Spirit of God was promised to come to the people of God. The
prophet Joel wrote: And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and
daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. (Joel
2:28 NIV) Nine hundred years later, the Spirit of the living God was poured upon His church in an
event named Pentecost. The purpose of the following research is to show the Pentecost as a major
point in the life of the apostles, as well as the beginning of the church of Christ.

Practically every doctrine of Christian theology is included in this first sermon given at Pentecost.
(34) What is Minister Ockenga talking about? The fisherman betrayer was preaching with great
eloquence and authority? It seems like Peter had something different.
Arno Clemens says: In his bold testimony Peter, the erstwhile denier of Christ, manifests the power
of the Holy Spirit. His inspired testimony shows what witness the Holy Spirit will bear through the
believer, when He is unhindered. (34) Clemens adds: Peter preached the Word and through the
Word he preached the Person, the Work and the Glory of Christ. (34)
The first message from Peter was a blast. Veli Matti Kärkkäinen, professor of theology at the
University of Helsinki, says: В…Pentecost is a dramatic work of the Spirit: Three thousand repent,
and charismatic elements are visible. (31) Ockenga includes an interesting fact: This sermon
resulted in the conversion of 3,000 people, who continued in the apostles doctrine and in prayer.
They were note temporary conversions. (35)
Another important issue that marked the life of the Apostles specially Peter s, was that they were
now able to do miracles like what they saw Jesus do. Minister Ockenga says: In his position as an
apostle, Peter had great power so that he performed miracles. (35) Acts 2:43 says: Everyone was
filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostle. (NIV) Minister
Ockenga says:

Nonverbal Communication And Body Language
Body language (the process of communicating nonverbally through conscious or unconscious
gestures and movements). People all of the world use body language or gestures to communicate
nonverbally. I personally think that nonverbal communication and body language are one of the
biggest barriers in communication especially between one culture to other. Body gesturescan be
misinterpreted as rude or disrespectful depending on the country, region, or even the city you re
from.
A few for example, in some countries the two fingers up to make the peace sign and also the
thumbs up sign can be considered rude. In some places, the ok sign that we use with our hand is
considered a sign of the devil 666, but in France it means nothing as in zero and not ok or great.
In some places can t, huge men and women can t huge each other if the opposite sex isn t a
family. In Haiti which is a French speaking country it is rude to shrug the shoulder when
communicating with older people. The shrug of the shoulder is only use with your friends. Also,
in Haiti kissing on the cheek like in France is for family friend I not greet that way it s a sign that
something with wrong in relationship between you and the person, and the men to men don t kiss on
the cheeks they will just shack hands.
In France greeting seems to be a really big deal among the culture, one of the greeting is called
fair la bise. Which is the kissing of the cheek which is really just cheeks touching and kissing in the
air but,

Billy Weather In The Landlady By Roald Dahl
In the realistical story The LandLady by Roald Dahl, the main character Billy Weather is going
to Bath which is a town in England, and needs a place to stay. There he decides to stay at a Bed
and Breakfast owned by a landlady. By using description and foreshadowing Roald Dahl teaches
a lesson that shows not to trust everyone, especially if it is a stranger. Trust is the central issue
that impacts Billy Weather throughout the story. When the landlady tells Billy to enter her house,
Billy went in causing more danger to himself rather than just walking away from her and saying
no. For example, Billy rings on the door bell and usually when someone rings on another person s
doorbell, it takes them a few seconds to get to the door, but as soon

Hypertext and Literary Study Essay
Hypertext and Literary Study
Hypertextual fiction (hyperfiction) and other hypertext applications are making their way into the
literature courses where, Professor Larry Friedlander says, learning has basically meant the study
of texts, in the form of the printed word (257). And these newer works, inseparable from their
contemporary technologies, offer the possibility of a very different type of literary study than the
one most English majors experience in traditional literature courses. Print and book technology
perpetuate and validate linear experience, thought, and narratives, which buttresses a hierarchical
educational structure that shapes the roles of writers, readers, teachers, and students. Challenging

I. Fixed in Print: Our Inheritances from the Renaissance
As readers and as scholars many of us tend not to identify the organizational layout of print books as
evidence of socially valued formats regarding the proper forms of narrative, thought, and conveying
meaning. To many modern readers print technology is just the natural form for narrative
entertainment or study. Although printed texts just seem natural, they reinforce concepts of
stability, finality, authority, and even immortality. The pursuit of a final authoritative, authentic text
not unrelated to the final draft students submit in literature courses is an endeavor of great
historical significance, especially in terms of literary history. It was establishing the original text
that the Renaissance scholars thought their main task ..., notes Richard Lanham, The aim of all
this was to fix the text forever (quoted in Slatin 155). One of the icons of the English literary
canon, Shakespeare himself went so far as to praise the immortality of print in his famous sonnet
sequence. Many of his sonnets like 19, 55, and 60 contain references to the lasting quality of art;
however, the poet is not simply praising the virtues of poetry, but also of

addition to this opinion, I think this show is bad because it only shows what the family wants
people to see and not the real version of them. Keeping up with the Kardashians is negatively
affecting teens around the U.S by showing girls that they need to fix themselves to seem beautiful

Efficiency improvement was primarily supported by inventory reduction efforts that, coupled with
increase in accounts payable derived from shifts in timing of payments, reduced the cash
conversion cycle to 43 days. It is worth noting that during fiscal 2012 the balance sheet had an
important growth as a result of the acquisition of the international Yoplait business, including
goodwill and other intangible assets of $2.3 bn USD. Sales growth also benefited from the
acquisition and will be discussed in the next section.
General Mills runs a leveraged operation where, in average, the total assets are 3 times shareholders
equity. Leverage ratio has decreased since 2010 as retained earnings have increased at a faster pace
than assets driven by strong business performance. A slight revamp in the leverage ratio during
fiscal 2012 was mainly driven by an increase in other comprehensive losses related to pensions and
postemployment activity, and foreign currency translation that offset retained earnings for the same
period.
Sustainable growth while generating strong levels of cash flows
General Mills has shown a strong, sustainable growth throughout the last years.
Net sales increase has been driven by a moderate average growth in the US Retail segment (3.8%),
coupled with the expansion in the International business (13.4%). The big year on year increase of

Education And Study At Universities
There are many reasons why people decide to continue their education and study at Universities.
It may be for enjoyment, for learning a new skill, for networking, or for career advancement, etc.
However, for most people, education is an investment for the future, and is considered as a
gateway to obtaining higher earnings in the future either via the job market or self employment. It
s commonly believed that the higher the qualification you get, the higher the chance you would
get a well paid job. However, what about for entrepreneurs? People who don t want to work in a
steady paid job, but who wants to be their own boss. Do entrepreneurs need to study for a
University degree? Would, in the course of studying a degree, increase the chance of becoming a
successful entrepreneur? Does higher educationteach the necessary skills to help people be
successful in running a business? Thus, lead to my research topic. I would like to investigate
whether successful entrepreneurs obtained their necessary skills whilst studying at University.
To begin with, how do we define a successful entrepreneur ? The Cambridge Dictionary defines
successful as achieving the results wanted or hope for/ having achieved a lot, become popular, and
/ or made a lot of money [Cambridge Dictionaries Online, 2014], and the definition of an
entrepreneur is someone who starts their own business, especially when this involves seeing a new
opportunity [Cambridge Dictionaries Online, 2014].

What Is The Qing Dynasty
The Qing dynasty, officially the Great Qing (English /tКѓЙЄЕ‹/), also called the Qing Empire by
itself or the Manchu dynasty by foreigners, was the last imperial dynasty of China, ruling from
1644 to 1912 with a brief, abortive restoration in 1917. It was preceded by the Ming dynasty and
succeeded by the Republic of China. The Qing multi cultural empire lasted almost three centuries
and formed the territorial base for the modern Chinese state.
The dynasty was founded by the Jurchen Aisin Gioro clan in Manchuria. In the late sixteenth
century, Nurhaci, originally a Ming vassal, began organizing Banners , military social units that
included Jurchen, Han Chinese, and Mongol elements. Nurhaci formed the Jurchen clans into a

A Hospital s Emergency Room
Bioterrorism/Disaster Plan
A hospital s emergency room (ER) is typically the site for initial presentation of patients from a
disaster or bioterrorism event. Consequently, nurses working in the ER setting are the first to treat
these patients. Thus it is of great importance to have a plan in place that can effectively meet the
unique needs of this type of situation. As a nurse employed in the ER at Good Samaritan Hospital
(GSH) in Vincennes, Indiana, I will be one of the first to see patients from a disaster. As a result,
our ER has its own set criteria that fits into the overall disaster plan of the hospital. Since the ER
is the primary intake location at GSH, I chose to evaluate our ER s disaster plan.
Disaster Analysis
Chain of Authority
The effectiveness of a disaster plan is dependent on its chain of authority which establishes lines of
communication and routes of transport, (Allender, Rector, Warner, 2014). At GSH, when central
command announces a disaster, the nursing house supervisor notifies the hospital administrator on
call that a disaster is impending and the nursing supervisor then activates the disaster plan. He or
she notified the charge nurses on each unit in the hospital via a house wide web page and the units
prepare for the influx of patients. On each unit, the charge nurse notifies the staff on that unit.
Within the ER, the charge nurse designates a physician or physician s assistant (PA) as head of the
triage intake area and assigns him or her

Over the years since the 830s, the Vikings had started attacking England. They continued their
persistent attempts to invade and had gained control of much of the north and east of the country.
Alfred led his military in protecting the people and defending his kingdom . Some attacks were lost
and some won. Alfred would sometime pay the Danish armies to leave.
In 878 the Vikings led by King Guthrum, invaded Wessex. King Alfred openly fought with his men
and they eventually defeated Guthrum. One of the terms of the surrender was that Guthrum

regions. Guthrum settled in the East. With this agreement, there was a time when there was peace.
King Alfred used this time to rebuild. He organized a system of burhs or forts spread across his
kingdom. This system made it difficult for Viking attacks. Alfred also ordered the construction
of a small fleet of long ships, twice the size of a Viking warship. (Alfred the Great) He felt
having these ships was a better way to fight the Vikings. He would meet them head on in the water
instead of allowing them to reach land. He is credited with being known as the founder of the Royal

1. What role does the Queen of Hearts play against Alice? The Queen of Hearts bears similar

Queen is the ruler over Wonderland and is described as a cold hearted, short tempered tyrant.
When Alice in the last chapters of the book, meets The Queen, she encounters true fear. It is stated
that Alice knows logically there is nothing to fear, since both the Queen and the royal prosecution
are simply a stack of playing cards, yet she does indeed feel frightened in The Queens presence.

A close up camera shot of Josie s languishing facial expression as John s body passes by, suggests
the inner emotional turmoil she is experiencing, yet simultaneously the passing coffin signifies
her acceptance of him slowly moving away from her, out of her life. The idea of her acceptance
of John s death is further reinforced at the end of the scene through Woods use of symbolism.
The subsequent shredding of his letter, followed by the release of the pieces out of the window
symbolically serve to represent her letting go as well as allowing John the freedom that he has
always longed for. Josie s feelings of isolation and separation following John s death are captured
during the bus ride scene where a closeup camera shot of Josie s facial expression is juxtaposed to
that of a group of laughing boys, totally oblivious to the inner turmoil that she faces. It isn t until

Similarities Between Animal Farm And Mouseland
Honore de Balzac once said Equality may perhaps be a right, but no power on it can ever turn it
into a fact. This quote connects to the theme With power there s never true equality. Because
although equality should be a given, while there is power present in society, it will never
happen. Animal Farm by George Orwell is a novel about a farm that is overtaken by its animals.
They assign one pig, Napoleon, to power. He began to only benefit the pigs and the other animals
were often oppressed. Mouseland by Tommy Douglas is a story about cats leading a town of mice,
and making rules that only benefitted the cat, and endangered the mice. The common theme in both
these stories is similar to the theme the quote presented, With power there s never true equality. The
authors of both Animal Farm and Mouseland use the narrative techniques of conflict and
characterization to illustrate political messages about power and equality.
The first narrative technique used to illustrate the theme was conflict. One example of theme
being illustrated through conflict was in Animal Farm when the pigs stole all the milk and apples
from the other animals. On page 36 of the novel it says It is for your sake that we drink that milk
and eat those apples. Do you know what would happen if we pigs failed out duty? Jones would
come back! This quote shows the pigs manipulating the other animals into believing that them
taking the milk and apples is benefitting them by saying if they didn t eat

The Blessed Month Of Ramadan
The blessed month of Ramadan, the time when almost 2 billion muslims around the world are
fasting and attempting to do extra good. Fasting was obligated two years after the muslims
migrated to Medina from Mecca. In Mecca, the economic conditions for the muslims were bad,
they were being persecuted, and often would go days without food or water. It was already
difficult enough for them to find food, it wouldn t be possible for them to abstain from
something they were in extreme need off. After they migrated to Medina, it was like a
sanctuary, they were greeted open heartedly, and many were actually waiting for them to arrive.
After they settled down, the verses of ramadan were revealed. Many people may wonder why
are muslims so excited about a month in which they abstain from food? Who would look
forward to something like that? In essence there is much more to ramadan than just abstaining
from food though out the day, it is also about learning self discipline, controlling your temper,
and building your character. It teaches a great amount of patience. Our prophet once said,
Whoever does not give up lying and evil action, God is not in need of his hunger. Not only is it
about purifying your body, also your mind and soul. It is also a chance to increase your good
deeds such as giving charity to the poor, and mending family relationships. As we go through the

Benefits Of Hippotherapy
The Benefits of Hippotherapy There are many different types of treatments that have been
experimented with to treat different disorders or diseases. A very unique example of this is
hippotherapy. Hippotherapy is the use of a horse as a treatment tool for physical, occupational, and
speech therapy (McGraw). The term hippotherapy comes from the Greek word hippos, which
means horse. There have been records of people using horseback riding as a therapeutic treatment
strategy since ancient Greece. More recently, the use of horseback riding has been used for
rehabilitation of people with physical disabilities since 1875. As the use of horses for therapybegan

Relations Between Public Relations Professionals And Media...
Introduction
The perceived cantankerous relationship that characterises the exchanges between public relations
professionals and media practitioners has been rife since the birth of public relations. The pair are,
in its simplest term frenemies , they do work together, albeit covertly, and are usually hesitant to
admit (on the media side) their cooperation. However, there is no absolute trust held between the
two for there is a shifting power of control and influence that continually changes, which Fletcher
(as cited in Hobsbawn, 2010, p. 64) believes is due to the market value of the particular product
that public relations is representing. Media practitioners are often called the watchdogs of society,
their history of holding the rulers of society accountable and maintaining democracy is a view that
is still maintained today. They are, however, in the eyes of public relations practitioners the gate
keeper , whereby they decide what is accessible to the public, conversely this power has somewhat
diminished due to the rise of the internet. Comparatively, public relations practitioners are viewed
by the media as spin doctors who threaten legitimate news content and act as ...the servants of
vested interests who deny the people their right to know... (Greenslade, 2005, as cited in White
Hobsbawm, 2007, p.284). In discussing the symbiotic relationship that is held between the two with

When referring to the Holocaust defined by (Oxford Dictionary) as Destruction or slaughter on a
mass scale, especially caused by fire or nuclear war: we have to take into account the global
awareness and knowledge of that time. We, as a planet, have come to acknowledge the Holocaust
not as the aforementioned and defined, but as the time in which, between 1939 and 1945, Nazi
Germany, lead by Adolf Hitler, persecuted and massacred approximately six million Jews, as well
as a plethora of other individuals, including the mentally handicapped, communists, poles,
gypsies, homosexuals (just to name a few), as well as attempting to conquer the world. It is
estimated that no less than ten million casualties were a result of the Nazi agenda, out of combat
(The History Place). Giving reference to the question, in this essay I will outline and counterpoint
two keys questions when regarding the approaches of functionalists and intenationalists, firmly
rooting them as the crux as my debate, which are: Did Adolf Hitler have a so called master plan
in bringing about the Holocaust, and where did the initiative come from? I will now proceed to
open the debate, by first giving a brief outline as both approaches and what they encompass.
Arguably the best Historian to define what exactly functionalism and intentionalism is as a concept
relating to the Holocaust is that of the man who first used the terms functionalist and intentionalist ;

Gianni Versace Murder
The eighteenth anniversary of Gianni Versace s death has past. Though I was only seven at the
time of a murder, several years later I d be learning and reviewing his collections as my own
preternatural interest in fashion was all consuming. In reading everything there was about the
extravagant life of Gianni Versace, I also learned of his murderer, Andrew Cunanan who eluded
Police and lead them on what is deemed the largest failed manhunt in U.S History. I was
reintroduced to this case when I happened to catch a documentary entitled The Versace Killer which
provided me with some insight into Andrew Cunanan and his many personas. After viewing this
documentary I questioned the reasoning behind Versace s murder, which I believe had to do... Show

Gianni was everything Andrew WANTED to be. More so, both were similar in many ways.
They were both Southern Italians; Versace was Calabrese, Andrew was half Sicilian. They both
came from port cities and deeply catholic environments. They both started out at roughly the
same economic place, although Versace did not have the privileges of a Bishop s education. Yet
here was Versace with a family he was proud of, from whom he never had to hide his gayness; a
loving longtime partner; and the riches of the world at his feet, including palazzos with views,
which could be filled at will with beautiful boys. Except for the boys, Versace s life sounded a lot
like the life Andrew had wished for at age thirteen when he wrote down his definition of success
in his application to Bishop s. It was as if Versace had discovered the buried gold bullion that
Andrew s father was dreaming of excavating. (Orth, 1999) For Andrew, the Vanity Fair article

Mitral Valve Prolapse Research Paper
Mitral Valve Prolapse
Located in between the left atrium and the left ventricle is the bicuspid or better known as the
mitral valve. The mitral valve works to prevent the back flow of blood into the left atrium once it
enters the left ventricle. This action may become hindered when the mitral valve prolapses or in
other words the valve becomes floppy and is no longer strong or tough enough to handle the
normal stresses brought upon it. This condition is known as Mitral Valve Prolapse (MVP). It is
said to be one of the most common cardiac abnormalities in the general population, effecting 2 3%,
approximately 7.8 million people in the United States and over 176 million people worldwide.

An Income Wave Analysis
Alt j (∆) is a British indie rock band that was formed in 2007 and released their first album in
2012 An Awesome wave produced by Charlie Andrew. Over the past few years, the four piece band
have taken the indie rock music scene by storm winning the prestigious Mercury Music Prize in

This helps to balance the song with not putting too much emphasis on the drums and rather having

definitely influenced my style. The off beats and the odd time signatures, he just fits so well with
the instrumental, and I just started playing like that (Rolling stone, 2015). As Charlie Andrews
explains in an interview with Sound on Sound, 2013, drummer Thom Green does not use
cymbals, The only slightly cymbal like thing he uses is the back end of a saucepan, which he uses
for the hi hat, and that in itself is quite a unique sound. That gives you a lot of space to mess
around with the room sound for the drums without the cymbals going all over it. Andrews also
mentions that the snare drum used is a tiny 10 inch thing that he possibly bought from the toy shop.
This allows the snare to have a good crack to it and then also with a little distortion, can make the
snare ring (2013, Sound on Sound). Buy using these kind of makeshift, minimalist drum sounds, it

Essay on Missed Appointment ART 86
Article 92 is perhaps the most important article in the entire Uniform Code of Military Justice. It
lays down the ground law, which is the absolute line that may not be crossed. Everything else in
the UCMJ is an explanation of the various forms that disobeying an order can take. Without the
support given by Article 92, service members would be free to do whatever they want, whenever
they want, and wouldn t be any more accountable than a civilian could in a civilian job. However,

It is a soldier s personal responsibility to keep all his or her items accountable at all times. This

The Army spends Billions of dollars on medical supplies, medications, the latest and newest high

The Meaning Of Freedom
The Meaning of Freedom Freedom has very different meanings to each individual which makes
it hard to find a clear precise definition. The meaning of freedom to me is the right to do things as
I choose. It is the right to act or speak and make my own choices without restraint. Many people
say they would do whatever it takes to achieve to goal of true freedom, but how far will they
really go for their rights? Can people have freedom and still be responsible citizens? The
definition of freedom might be to some racial equality, equal rights, and gender equality. Just for
this one idea, people have gone as far as risking their lives and the lives of everyone around them.

Freedom does mean to right to do as one pleases, to think, believe, speak, worship, move about,
gather. I believe everyone should act as you choose, but only until your choices start to infringe
on another person s freedom. You can be a responsible citizen and still enjoy your freedom.
Enjoying our freedom does not mean that we can disregard the rights of others and live the way
we feel right. We also have to consider the rights and the feelings of the other people around us
when living our freedom. We believe in the freedom of people to make their own mistakes. We
do not interfere with them and they should not interfere with others (Roosevelt, 1905). I observe
the rules and traditions of the society. Sometimes I m not free to act as I want, because I know
that it can bring harm to people whom I love and respect. We really need to live in the society
that is restricted. Can you imagine one where all the people do what they want to? I think that it
would turn into chaos. That s why I stick to the opinion that people should obey the rules of the
society they live in and respect the rights of other people. Freedom is not an absolute right, and it
too has some constraints. A popular saying goes: Your freedom ends where mine begins. A
freedom that poses a threat to the society and the nation we dwell in is not freedom in real sense.
One cannot just violate laws, kill people, smuggle drugs or doing anything detrimental to the
society and call it

EFFECTIVE USE OF MANAGERS ENCOURAGEMET OF EMPLOYEE VOICE CAN
LEAD TO A LIFT IN WELL BEING AND PRODUCTIVITY. Managers encouragement of
employee voice can result in an overall increase of productivity and well being. First of all, a
fundamental term which must be understood is the definition of Employee voice (EV) .
Wilkinson and Fay (2011) summarise voice as how much say an employee has in regard to
decision making in the workplace. Furthermore, in this essay a range of arguments will be

In circumstances where employees feel as if they cannot express opinions, criticism and
suggestions, it is commonly due to the expected outcome with the manager (Detert Burris, 2007).
Furthermore, if there were to be an issue within the organisation which effected the employee,
the employee has one of two options; leave the workplace or express their opinions (Detert
Burris, 2007, p.872). As a result, if EV is not encouraged by a manager it can lead to employees
feeling discouraged to express their opinions, overall reducing wellbeing and psychological
security within that organisation (Detert Burris, 2007). Detert and Burris (2007) suggests that
employees, lack the courage to... challenge mangers who have signalled unwillingness to accept
input (Detert Burris, 2007, p.872). Furthermore, it can be concluded that due to unwelcoming use
of EV, employee s well being (confidence within the workplace) is drastically reduced. Walumbwa

Identity And The Concept Of Self
Through these past units I have learned several things about identity and the concept of self.
Self concept is the intellectual and theoretical awareness and constant regard that conscious
beings hold with regard to their own self. Elements of a persons self concept include but are not
limited physical, psychological, and social attributes and can be affected by its attitudes, habits,
beliefs and ideas. These factors can each be condensed to the common ideas of self esteem as
well as self image. Many of the achievements and failures that people encounter in several areas
of life are similarly related to the ways that they have learned to look at themselves and their
interactions with others. Different social contexts may trigger an individual to think, feel, and act
on the basis of his personal, family, or national level of self (Turner et al, 1987). This shows how
influential our surroundings are to the choices we make and it is an individual based perception of
what defines the us associated with any internalized group membership. This can be distinguished
from the notion of personal identity, which refers to self knowledge that derives from the
individual s unique attributes (Lecture notes week 1). Self concept is something that is learned
and from what we know now, nobody is born with a self concept. It continuously and slowly
appears in the initial years of somebodies life and is shaped and reshaped through imitated and
duplicated incidents and experiences,

A Metaphor from Freud’s Psychosexual Stages
There are many aspects of life that are confusing and difficult to understand. In a human being s
life, a metaphor can bring a topic or idea into a new light and make it more understandable. In this
particular article, the author is using Sigmund Freud s theory of psychosexual stages as a metaphor
for a counselor s development with their clients. The five psychosexual stages are first outlined
from the generic standpoint of Freud s theories. The article then continues to directly compare each
stage with the counseling process and exactly how the two processes are similar. Alongside the
comparison, the rest of the article outlines how a counselor should interact with their client. An
overview of the psychosexual stages is critical to understand the connection between the stages and
counseling (Garcia, 1995).
The five psychosexual stages in Freud s order are the oral, anal, phallic, latency, and genital stages.
Beginning with the oral stage, Freud s theory describes the sexual development of an infant. This
development is constructed with assistance from the infant s mouth, hence the oral stage . An
infant will place objects in their mouth to identify what it is. From this point, the infant will then
rationalize if the object is acceptable and desirable or if it is undesirable. If the object is
pleasurable, the infant will keep it in its mouth or eat it, if the object is edible. An infant will spit
out any object it may render to be unpleasurable. This is the main idea of the

I Am Waiting For The Concert
Sunday, May 29th 2016, 2:55PM: I am waiting for the concert to begin as I watch the musicians
walk onto the stage one by one, rehearsing a few notes on their instrument to warm up a bit and
probably test the pitch of the instrument. As more and more get up on the stage, the sound of them
rehearsing feel more and more chaotic, confusing and hard to follow, reminding me of Stravinski s
work. All of the sudden, they stop and start playing harmoniously a few notes thus inviting the
conductor on the stage the concert was about to start.
Before the main performance, there were two shorter pieces, Ibert s Bacchanale and Dusapin s
Outscape. In retrospec,t both were wonderful choices as a prelude to Holst s The Planets as I felt the
three pieces fit well together when put back to back and they even inspired to me an overarching
message.
Jacques Ibert s Bacchanale was composed in 1956, only 6 years before it s author s death.
Unlike his previous compositions which were marked by the tension and turmoil of the interwar
period and World War 2, Bacchanale is the culmination of his rather wild and hard to pigeonhole
style. The title evokes the Roman festival bearing the same name, a tribute to the wine god
Bacchus. Bacchanalia were notorious for the excessive drinking, dancing and performing for as
long as the participants could remain standing and they were living proof of the carefree lifestyle
Romans could afford to have.
The composition itself mirrors this style, having as a

Rise Of The Counterculture
During the sixties, American people saw the rise of the counterculture. Counterculture was a group
of movements focused on achieving personal and cultural liberation, mainly embraced by the
decade s young adults. Because many Americans were members of the different movements in the
counterculture, the counterculture influenced American society as a whole. As a result of the
achievements the counterculture movements had made, the United Statesin the 1960sbecame a
more open, more tolerant, and a more freer country. In 1969, close to half a million self
described hippies, peace makers, and Aquarians made an expedition from mainly San Francisco to
Woodstock in upstate New York. The Woodstock Music and Arts Festival was called an Aquarian
Exposition and hailed as three days of peace and music, over 400,000 people attended; it was
peaceful. However, life outside of the woodstock festivalwas not. America seemed to be dividing
as a country. The war in Vietnam went on for roughly another 15 years. American boys were still
being sent to Southeast Asia by the newly elected President, Nixon. The increasingly unpopular
war intensified a campus protest movement. Burning draft cards and peace marches became daily
fare on the evening news. And not all of the demonstrations were peaceful. The summer after
Martin Luther King was assassinated, riots broke out in 125 cities including, Chicago, Baltimore,
NYC, Kansas City, and Cincinnati. Meanwhile, at the Democratic convention in Chicago, the anti
war movement tore the Democratic Party in two. Both critics and fans agree that Woodstock has
become part of the mythology of the 1960s, even if the actual event didn t necessarily represent
the musical or political taste of most of the young Americans adults at this time. Some say it
symbolized the freedom and idealism of the 1960s. Some argue that Woodstock represented much
of everything that was wrong with the sixties: a glorification of drugs, a loosening of sexual
morality and a socially corrosive disrespect for authority.
The 60s was full of major movements. One of the most powerful counterculture movements was the
civil rights movement. In 1964, Congress passed the Civil Rights Act to end racial discrimination in

seductive women that would cater to their every wish, but they also wanted virginal women to be

succumbed to seduction. After they fell though, they would have to be punished in order to prevent
women of the time period reading these stories from thinking they had too much power. One of the

fault (Les Liaisons Dangereuses 315). She felt there was no other way to repent for her adultery
other than to die. She believed that she was doing God s work by converting Valmont, but, when
he left her, she lost the faith that what she was doing was God s work. She said many times that
she should have trusted her friends and stayed true to her husband, but she was blinded by the need
to help Valmont. Even though her punishment was self inflicted, she was still punished. Since her
fall was much greater, the author made her punishment more severe. As many doctors could tell,
there was no physical virus plaguing her. The only thing wrong with Tourvel was her want to
punish herself with pain, suffering, and death. Until the bitter end, Tourvel wanted to still save
Valmont. When she learns of his death, she prays for God to punish her and spare him (Les
Liaisons Dangereuses 353). Tourvel s death seems like an extreme punishment for succumbing to
Valmont. However, it was the only punishment fit for a woman of the time period who betrayed

Secession Of The United States
Eleven states in the south came to the conclusion that secession was the best way to escape the
oppressive government. All of these southern states were justified as they felt that they were not
being properly represented in the government and were seen as a joke. They were not taken
seriously and they felt that since their votes didn t matter anyway that their place in the union also
didn t matter. A large reason for the south s secession revolves around the idea of slavery. All the
south wanted was for slavery to spread and be legal across the north and once they discovered that
this opening was closing they began the thoughts of secession. These thoughts of the south seceding
from the union worried the government so they did what they could to make the south happy
without allowing slavery to actually expand. This came in the form of many events including the
Missiouri Compromise, the Compromise of 1850, the Fugitive Slave Law, and Washington D.C.
remaining a slave territory. This kept the south at bay for a while until the events of the Kansas
Nebraska Act and the election of 1860 opened their eyes to see that in reality their votes didn t
matter. This ultimately led to their justified secession from the union. In 1820 president James
Monroe passed the Missouri Compromise stating that slavery was illegal in any state north of the
parallel 36В°30 north with the exception of Missouri. This left the states south of this line free to
continue practicing slavery. In order to

Stephen Hawking s Death Of The Greatest Scientist
Imagine if you could only move your left hand an inch or so, and the rest of your body was
completely paralyzed. You can t talk, and you can hardly move. This disease is called
amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Lou Gehrig s disease, or ALS and this is what Stephen Hawking has.
Despite the fact that he is handicapped, he has managed to become one of the greatest scientists
ever.
Stephen Hawking was born on January 8, 1942 (exactly 300 years after the death of Galileo
Galilei) in Oxford, England. As a kid, he was fascinated with the idea of an ever growing universe
that he lives in, and would occasionally lie on his front lawn, with his family, observing the sky and
taking turns looking through a telescope at the stars. On one quiet, dark ... Show more content on

His great abilities in physics were weakened by his poor study habits. After his final exam,
Stephen was on the line between first and second honors. To determine his degree, the professors
decided to give him an oral exam. He passed the test with excellence, and therefore, went on to
Cambridge.
At Cambridge University, he was going to study cosmetology, a branch of physics. Fortunately for
him he decided to study theoretical physics, not experimental physics where he would have had to
set up many experiments, which he could not have done after he got ALS.
By now, Stephen had been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. ALS slowly destroys the
nerves in the brain and spine. ALS victims usually die within 2 5 years because it destroys the
muscles used for breathing which leads to suffocation.
When he was diagnosed with ALS, he pretty much gave up his life. After he did not die after two
years, he realized he could go on with ALS and his study of cosmetology. Although he was weak,
he could still walk. After those 2 years, he decided he could not waste any time, there were
things he wanted to do in his life. Hawking wanted to get married and get a Ph.D. So he was
engaged to Jane Wilde in 1965. Hawking said, It [getting married to her] made me determined to
live, to go on. Jane really gave me the will to live. Then he got his Ph.D. and started to work at
Cambridge. He was now officially known as Professor Dr. Stephen William Hawking. His health

Literary Analysis Of Romeo And Juliet
Formal Literary Analysis Romeo and Juliet To be wronged is nothing, unless you continue to
remember it. In Romeo and juliet by Shakespeare we see two households being torn apart by an
ancient grudge, but is almost resolved due to Romeo, a Montague and Juliet, a Capulet.
Shakespeare uses the destructive nature of holding grudges in Romeo and Juliet to further the plot
of the story, and and to also further character development. Shakespeare uses the destructive nature
of holding grudges in Romeo and Juliet to further the plot and character development. Early in the
play the reader sees that both the Capulets and the Montagues have an Ancient Grudge . this is
seen when Tybalt, of house capulet starts a fight with the Montagues. Tybalt says What, drawn,
and talk of peace? I hate the word, As I hate hell, all Montagues, and thee. Have at thee, coward!
(1.5.60 62). Tybalt starts to put tension on the Montagues, speaking words of disrespect and slander.
This seems to be the start of their issues in the story.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

begins. As Romeo leaves Juliet finds that Romeo is a Montague, and says thus My only love
sprung from my only hate! Too early seen unknown, and known too late! Prodigious birth of love
it is to me, That I must love a loathГЁd enemy (1.5.138 141) The ancient grudge that is set, keeps
Juliet in want for Romeo, even if she knows that their love is forbidden. This scene helps to further

  • 2. What Is Formative And Summative Assessment Introduction Assessment can be the engine of curriculum reform, or the principal impediment to its implementation (Mary Barnes, 2000) is a thought which is of great debate in the Republic of Ireland today. Education and curriculum are constantly evolving and often assessment gets left behind. The relationship between student learning and an effective curriculum lies in the power of the assessment. One cannot thrive without the other, and one cannot be entirely effective unless the other is equally as effective. In this assignment I will explore the types of assessment, particularly formative and summative assessment which are used worldwide in the classroom. As well as the history of assessment in Ireland, the newest junior cycle programme and finally ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Research has shown that formative assessment is effective in all educational settings (Paul Black, 1998).One major difference between formative assessment and summative assessment is the way in which formative assessment uses student involvement as an integral pillar. Without student involvement in the assessment process, formative assessment is not reaching its full potential. Many research papers have shown that student motivation is dramatically increased when students are involved in both their own learning and in the learning of others (Pintrich de Groot, 1990).Teachers, however, do not have a sit back role in formative assessment. They are still crucial to the proper use of this assessment by ways of designing appropriate assessment tasks, identifying attainable learning goals and outlining clear criteria for student success. One key factor in formative assessment is the return of feedback to students. Many studies have shown that substantial learning gains are the outcome of an effective and frequent feedback process from teacher to student (Wiliam, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

People all of the world use body language or gestures to communicate nonverbally. I personally think that nonverbal communication and body language are one of the biggest barriers in communication especially between one culture to other. Body gesturescan be misinterpreted as rude or disrespectful depending on the country, region, or even the city you re from. A few for example, in some countries the two fingers up to make the peace sign and also the thumbs up sign can be considered rude. In some places, the ok sign that we use with our hand is considered a sign of the devil 666, but in France it means nothing as in zero and not ok or great. In some places can t, huge men and women can t huge each other if the opposite sex isn t a family. In Haiti which is a French speaking country it is rude to shrug the shoulder when communicating with older people. The shrug of the shoulder is only use with your friends. Also, in Haiti kissing on the cheek like in France is for family friend I not greet that way it s a sign that something with wrong in relationship between you and the person, and the men to men don t kiss on the cheeks they will just shack hands. This quote connects to the theme With power there s never true equality. Because although equality should be a given, while there is power present in society, it will never happen. Animal Farm by George Orwell is a novel about a farm that is overtaken by its animals. They assign one pig, Napoleon, to power. He began to only benefit the pigs and the other animals were often oppressed. Mouseland by Tommy Douglas is a story about cats leading a town of mice, and making rules that only benefitted the cat, and endangered the mice. The common theme in both these stories is similar to the theme the quote presented, With power there s never true equality. The authors of both Animal Farm and Mouseland use the narrative techniques of conflict and characterization to illustrate political messages about power and equality. The first narrative technique used to illustrate the theme was conflict. One example of theme being illustrated through conflict was in Animal Farm when the pigs stole all the milk and apples from the other animals. Introduction The perceived cantankerous relationship that characterises the exchanges between public relations professionals and media practitioners has been rife since the birth of public relations. The pair are, in its simplest term frenemies , they do work together, albeit covertly, and are usually hesitant to admit (on the media side) their cooperation. However, there is no absolute trust held between the two for there is a shifting power of control and influence that continually changes, which Fletcher (as cited in Hobsbawn, 2010, p. 64) believes is due to the market value of the particular product that public relations is representing. Media practitioners are often called the watchdogs of society, their history of holding the rulers of society accountable and maintaining democracy is a view that is still maintained today. They are, however, in the eyes of public relations practitioners the gate keeper , whereby they decide what is accessible to the public, conversely this power has somewhat diminished due to the rise of the internet. Yet here was Versace with a family he was proud of, from whom he never had to hide his gayness; a loving longtime partner; and the riches of the world at his feet, including palazzos with views, which could be filled at will with beautiful boys. Except for the boys, Versace s life sounded a lot like the life Andrew had wished for at age thirteen when he wrote down his definition of success in his application to Bishop s. That gives you a lot of space to mess around with the room sound for the drums without the cymbals going all over it. Andrews also mentions that the snare drum used is a tiny 10 inch thing that he possibly bought from the toy shop. This allows the snare to have a good crack to it and then also with a little distortion, can make the snare ring (2013, Sound on Sound). I believe everyone should act as you choose, but only until your choices start to infringe on another person s freedom. You can be a responsible citizen and still enjoy your freedom. Enjoying our freedom does not mean that we can disregard the rights of others and live the way we feel right. We also have to consider the rights and the feelings of the other people around us when living our freedom. We believe in the freedom of people to make their own mistakes. We do not interfere with them and they should not interfere with others (Roosevelt, 1905). I observe the rules and traditions of the society. Sometimes I m not free to act as I want, because I know that it can bring harm to people whom I love and respect. We really need to live in the society that is restricted. Can you imagine one where all the people do what they want to? I think that it would turn into chaos. That s why I stick to the opinion that people should obey the rules of the society they live in and respect the rights of other people. • 34. Identity And The Concept Of Self Through these past units I have learned several things about identity and the concept of self. Self concept is the intellectual and theoretical awareness and constant regard that conscious beings hold with regard to their own self. Elements of a persons self concept include but are not limited physical, psychological, and social attributes and can be affected by its attitudes, habits, beliefs and ideas. These factors can each be condensed to the common ideas of self esteem as well as self image. Many of the achievements and failures that people encounter in several areas of life are similarly related to the ways that they have learned to look at themselves and their interactions with others. Different social contexts may trigger an individual to think, feel, and act on the basis of his personal, family, or national level of self (Turner et al, 1987). This shows how influential our surroundings are to the choices we make and it is an individual based perception of what defines the us associated with any internalized group membership. This can be distinguished from the notion of personal identity, which refers to self knowledge that derives from the individual s unique attributes (Lecture notes week 1). In a human being s life, a metaphor can bring a topic or idea into a new light and make it more understandable. In this particular article, the author is using Sigmund Freud s theory of psychosexual stages as a metaphor for a counselor s development with their clients. The five psychosexual stages are first outlined from the generic standpoint of Freud s theories. The article then continues to directly compare each stage with the counseling process and exactly how the two processes are similar. Alongside the comparison, the rest of the article outlines how a counselor should interact with their client. An overview of the psychosexual stages is critical to understand the connection between the stages and counseling (Garcia, 1995). The five psychosexual stages in Freud s order are the oral, anal, phallic, latency, and genital stages. Beginning with the oral stage, Freud s theory describes the sexual development of an infant. This development is constructed with assistance from the infant s mouth, hence the oral stage . An infant will place objects in their mouth to identify what it is. From this point, the infant will then rationalize if the object is acceptable and desirable or if it is undesirable. If the object is pleasurable, the infant will keep it in its mouth or eat it, if the object is edible. An infant will spit out any object it may render to be unpleasurable. Jacques Ibert s Bacchanale was composed in 1956, only 6 years before it s author s death. Unlike his previous compositions which were marked by the tension and turmoil of the interwar period and World War 2, Bacchanale is the culmination of his rather wild and hard to pigeonhole style. Counterculture was a group of movements focused on achieving personal and cultural liberation, mainly embraced by the decade s young adults. As a result of the achievements the counterculture movements had made, the United Statesin the 1960sbecame a more open, more tolerant, and a more freer country. In 1969, close to half a million self described hippies, peace makers, and Aquarians made an expedition from mainly San Francisco to Woodstock in upstate New York. The Woodstock Music and Arts Festival was called an Aquarian Exposition and hailed as three days of peace and music, over 400,000 people attended; it was peaceful. However, life outside of the woodstock festivalwas not. America seemed to be dividing as a country. The war in Vietnam went on for roughly another 15 years. American boys were still being sent to Southeast Asia by the newly elected President, Nixon. The increasingly unpopular war intensified a campus protest movement. Burning draft cards and peace marches became daily fare on the evening news. And not all of the demonstrations were peaceful. The summer after Martin Luther King was assassinated, riots broke out in 125 cities including, Chicago, Baltimore, NYC, Kansas City, and Cincinnati. Meanwhile, at the Democratic convention in Chicago, the anti war movement tore the Democratic Party in two. Both critics and fans agree that Woodstock has become part of the mythology of the 1960s, even if the actual event didn t necessarily represent the musical or political taste of most of the young Americans adults at this time. Some say it symbolized the freedom and idealism of the 1960s. Some argue that Woodstock represented much of everything that was wrong with the sixties: a glorification of drugs, a loosening of sexual morality and a socially corrosive disrespect for authority. These thoughts of the south seceding from the union worried the government so they did what they could to make the south happy without allowing slavery to actually expand. This came in the form of many events including the Missiouri Compromise, the Compromise of 1850, the Fugitive Slave Law, and Washington D.C. remaining a slave territory. This kept the south at bay for a while until the events of the Kansas Nebraska Act and the election of 1860 opened their eyes to see that in reality their votes didn t matter. This ultimately led to their justified secession from the union. In 1820 president James Monroe passed the Missouri Compromise stating that slavery was illegal in any state north of the parallel 36В°30 north with the exception of Missouri. This left the states south of this line free to continue practicing slavery. In order to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Stephen Hawking s Death Of The Greatest Scientist Imagine if you could only move your left hand an inch or so, and the rest of your body was completely paralyzed. You can t talk, and you can hardly move. This disease is called amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Lou Gehrig s disease, or ALS and this is what Stephen Hawking has. Despite the fact that he is handicapped, he has managed to become one of the greatest scientists ever. Stephen Hawking was born on January 8, 1942 (exactly 300 years after the death of Galileo Galilei) in Oxford, England. As a kid, he was fascinated with the idea of an ever growing universe that he lives in, and would occasionally lie on his front lawn, with his family, observing the sky and taking turns looking through a telescope at the stars. After his final exam, Stephen was on the line between first and second honors. To determine his degree, the professors decided to give him an oral exam. He passed the test with excellence, and therefore, went on to Cambridge. At Cambridge University, he was going to study cosmetology, a branch of physics. Fortunately for him he decided to study theoretical physics, not experimental physics where he would have had to set up many experiments, which he could not have done after he got ALS. By now, Stephen had been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. ALS slowly destroys the nerves in the brain and spine. ALS victims usually die within 2 5 years because it destroys the muscles used for breathing which leads to suffocation. When he was diagnosed with ALS, he pretty much gave up his life. After he did not die after two years, he realized he could go on with ALS and his study of cosmetology. Although he was weak, he could still walk. After those 2 years, he decided he could not waste any time, there were things he wanted to do in his life. Hawking wanted to get married and get a Ph.D. So he was engaged to Jane Wilde in 1965. Hawking said, It [getting married to her] made me determined to live, to go on. Jane really gave me the will to live. Then he got his Ph.D. and started to work at Cambridge. He was now officially known as Professor Dr. Stephen William Hawking. His health ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
