Secondhand Smoke Research Paper
The first myth is trying to express that, the climate change has been there before. Meaning that, the
changes in temperature, the amount of carbondiocixed and change in rainfall pattern have been there
before and it is not new and is not anything to worry about. By its name the myth, was just misleading
people. The answer to this myth is, the changes in climate have come about due to human acts and
industrialization. Some of the acts are, caress cutting down of tree, emission of carbon into the
atmosphere due to the use of fuels. These two agents of climate change are changing the climate on a
faster note.
The second myth which is saying, plants and animals can adapt to the climate is also lying. The
answer to this myth is, plants and animals cannot adapt to these ... Show more content on

At first, I was taking the environment for granted. Now, I am able to talk to people in my community
on conserving and sustaining the environment like, proper ways of managing waste, following
sustainable agriculture, avoiding clearing forest and avoid poaching to maintain biodiversity and
ecosystem.
I have chosen to answer a review question from unit 12. The question is why is secondhand smoke
dangerous?
Secondhand smoke which comes out from cigarettes and smokers is very dangerous to the lives of
people. Secondhand smoke contains over 7,000 harmful chemicals, which damage human health.
Secondhand smoke causes lung and respiratory problems.
The course is going on well. It is not hard, it only requires critical reading and understanding of the
textbook. The first challenge I am facing is failing to read the units for weeks 1, 2 and 3. I had
problems in downloading the textbook due to network failure. I had to travel to the city, to access
network and that was in week four. The second one is, the time allocated to graded quiz was not
enough as compared to number of questions. I wish the time could go up to 45 minutes, for 25

Who Is D Amville In Atheist s Tragedy
D Amville, the main antagonist in the tragedy The Atheist s Tragedy by Cyril Tourneur, ponders the
meaning of life throughout the play. After a climactic conversation with Borachio, D Amville makes
his stance on life very clear: life is limited, life is short, and the only way to defeat the forces of nature
and to extend life is through a healthy, wealthy, offspring. This idea alone becomes the motive for
many of D Amville s decisions: it is because of this concept that he kills his brother, Montferrers; it is
because of this ideology that he is determined to marry off his son, and when that plot fails, this
ideology is the main motivation for his attempted rape of Castabella. In the beginning of the play,
everything is going according to D Amville s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Every time D Amville speaks in verse, he follows the rhythmic patterns of iambic pentameter. As he
discusses the importance of his children to his life, asserting that There s my eternity...[which will] add
to life as much of happiness , D Amville follows the rules of iambic pentameter without flaw
(Tourneur, 254, 1.1.124 127). For example, in the lines And IN my REAson DWELLS the
PROvidENCE/to ADD to LIFE as MUCH of HAppiNESS , we see that there are five pairs of stressed
syllable and five pairs of unstressed syllables in each of these lines. Moreover, these lines, just like
many others in this section, correctly follow the unstressed, stressed pattern. He does not waver, or
mistakenly add or remove a syllable; rather he is entirely confident in his speech. Throughout all of
his lines, in this passage, his meter is fixed, and it is stable. During the first few pages of the play,
whenever D Amville speaks, he continues to use the same manner in his speech. Just as he is
unwavering in his speech, just as he is firm in his words, he is also firm in the beliefs he expresses in
these lines. He stresses that IN his reason, the solution lies. He also stresses the word DWELLS,
which also emphasizes his idea that reason is truly where he believes happiness and providence reside.
His speech is, therefore, a reflection of his attitude; just as he does not

Temporal Processing Paper
Temporal processing relates to the incorporation and integration of diverse acoustic signals over time.
The auditory system works to address the spectral and temporal modulations of speech, identification
of sound location, speech in noise, and other environmental and auditory stimuli. Temporal processing
consists of the ability to sequence, discriminate, integrate, and mask incoming auditory signals (Shinn,
2003). The auditory system recognizes the location and discrimination of sounds through
communication of neurons in the central ascending auditory pathway. Phase locking with varying
frequency cutoffs based on test subjects affects this coding of signal (Paolini, FitzGerald, Burkitt,
Clark, 2001). Neurons must fire fast and precise in order to detect the brief time differences between
stimuli. With the help of potassium channels at both presynaptic and postsynaptic action potential
(AP) locations, these neurons remain constantly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the activation of the Kv3.1 potassium channel, these neurons phase locked precisely to acoustic
stimuli presented up to 2000 to 4000 Hz (Song and Kaczmarek, 2006). Regulation of certain
potassium channels, both increasing and decreasing the influx of potassium, relied on the process of
sound activated phosphorylation and sound activated dephosphorylation after the onset of loud noises
(Steinert et al., 2008). Stimulation of Kv3.1a and Kv3.1b channels expressed in the globular bushy
cells of the AVCN and principle neurons of MNTB strongly depended on the process of
phosphorylation and dephosphorylation. Research focused on the process of activation with the
Kv3.1b channel in adult cells, as the shorter Kv3.1a expressed greater quantities in embryonic cells
(Kaczmarek et al., 2005). Through this process, the influx of potassium affected the activation of
neurons in the ascending auditory

Tell Tale Heart Dark Romanticism Essay
An Evolution of Dark Romanticism The Tell Tale Heart
Dark Romanticism illustrates the subgenre of Romanticism and it often explores man s capacity for
malevolence. Edgar Allen Poe is one the writers of Dark Romanticism and in his story, The Tell Tale
heart , he explores humanity s propensity to commit sin. The story is based on the concept of sin and
apathy, as the narrator tries to convince the reader that he is nervous, not mad. Dark Romanticism
consists in showing man s malevolent nature and engages with the concept of man s darkness.
Therefore, in the The Tell Tale Heart , the narrator s evil actions demonstrate the story s inclusion in
the genre specific of Dark Romanticism.
The narrator s mysterious illness exemplifies the tenets of Dark Romanticism. Supposedly the narrator
is told that he is mad and he refuses to accept this ; therefore, he tells the story on how he ... Show

capacity of the narrator s imagination which makes him creates the old man. It all seems that nothing
that he says happens in real life. For instance, the old man eyes, heartbeat, the night, the police, and so
on, are all fruits of his fantasy. The eyes could represent his psychological sin and guilt, and the old
man depicts his own personality. He wants to get rid of the eyes because it has a darkness sin which
does not allow him to have a good sanity. The narrator separates the old man s personality to his eye,
and in the end, he assumes by getting rid of the eyes he could still love the man and live in peace with
his mental sanity. However, this strategy does not work out well and turned against him because does
not only kill the eyes but also the old

Narrative Reflection
Coming into Drexel, an important factor I learned was to have a clear understanding in the art and
mechanics for literature composition. I learned that it would mature my writing to a higher level of
thinking. My past experiences in my writing through high school English teacher feedback indicated
my writing to be full of flaws. I often would receive feedback on my writing being awkwardly worded
or lacking fluidity. The one valuable skill I learned from English courses here at Drexel was the idea
that exposure to different readings, conceptual knowledge in writing and informal writing practices
give practice, in order for me to find my own voice in writing.
For instance, in my English 101 class, where my personal narrative for instance demonstrates an
efficient dynamics, especially in the importance of articulating a message. Furthermore, for my drafts
I received much advice which would be altered or incorporated within the final piece. Concerns such
as the addition of dialogue, grammar and tense issues and overall style would be explicitly answered
throughout the process of revising and editing my draft. General criticism, however I was given about
my narrative was the idea that it needed clarity, by focusing on a specific event. The account of my
summer experience in Pakistan such as how I felt before leaving the country to embracing the lifestyle
of my relatives needed more depth, a central theme. Since my encounter of witnessing poverty first

Analysis Of Uncle Tom s Cabin By Harriet Beecher Stowe
Harriet Beecher Stowe was an author during the 1800s and wrote Uncle Tom s Cabin which was far
ahead of its time and depicted the evils of slavery. Harriet Beecher Stowe was born on June 14th, 1811
in Litchfield, Connecticut as the seventh child of Lyman and Roxana Beecher. Being that she was born
in the North to extremely religious parents, she too of course was quite religious as well as an
abolitionist. Unlike most women of her time period, Harriet Beecher Stowe was educated at a school
for girls in all of the classic subjects(language, math, etc.). Later in her life, Stowe moved to
Cincinnati, Ohio where Irish riots against black people contributed to her ideas of slavery and her
abolitionist novels. One day, while in a literary club, Stowe

Jamila Wignot Triangle Fire
The Triangle fire was released in 2006, produced by Jamila Wignot. The triangle fire was the result of
dangerous work conditions, neglected safety features and locked doors within the factory building.
The film maker had an agenda of how the film was presented. Order was present in the movie. The
film was trying to tell the world that because of careless behavior a lot of people died for no reason.
The fire was the result of careless behavior that cost a lot of people their lives. The film as evidence
had people who lived during the tringle fire talk about how the experience was. Some survivors who

Describe The Story Of Nabucco
Before Verdi wrote his opera, the story of Nabucco appeared on the Italian stage for the first time in
1819. Nabucco was a play by Florentine dramatist Giovanni Battista Niccolini. In its published
edition, Niccolini`s play carried a complex key for the understanding the political allusion in the work.
The second story of Nabucco again appeared on the Italian stage, this time in the form of five act
ballet written by Antonio Cortesi and performed at La Scala in 1838. The work was written and
performed for the Coronation Season at La Scala. Commemorating the crowning of Austrian Emperor
Ferdinand as King of Lombardy and Venetia, an event that marked the high point of Austrian
domination in Italy. Temistocle Solera appears to have based his libretto to this scenario, and it was
with its scenery and costume that Marelli first staged Verdi`s opera.
The opera was based on a plot taken from the Old Testament of the Bible, Daniel 4:29 33, the story of
Zechariach and the Jews suppressed by Babylon s King Nebuchadnezzar whose name for purposes of
song is reduced to Nabucco and his resentful daughter, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Viewed on a more complex level, the symbolism of Nabucco offers an intricate relationship between
the characters and political events. In this view, King Nabucodonosor might represent Napoleon, and
his two daughters, one legitimate, symbolizing Italy, and another illegitimate Austria. The Babylonian
religion and the high priest of Baal, ironically represent the Pope and the Catholic Church. The
parallels between the opera`s subject matter and Italy`s situation in 1840s are easy to discern: the
opera was about a chosen nation dreaming of freedom from foreign domination, the Hebrews slaves
represented the Italians struggling against their Austrian

Characteristics Of Ancient Civilizations
Were ancient cultures actually considered civilizations? Four of the most important ancient
civilizations were Mesopotamia, ancient Egypt, ancient India, and ancient China. In order to be
considered a civilization a culture must have seven different characteristics. These seven
characteristics of a civilization are writing system, social classes, organized government, public works,
arts and architecture, job specialization, and complex religions.
Mesopotamia was a region in the fertile crescent that was located within the Tigris Euphrates river
system. In modern day geography it is roughly located in Iraq, the eastern parts of Syria, and
Southeastern Turkey. First, mesopotamia used a writing system known as cuneiform. This writing

For example, the king could create a law and the assembly could overturn it. To our knowledge the
Sumerians did not write down their laws. When the king passed a new law everyone was expected to
learn and obey it. Fourth, ancient Mesopotamia people did build public works. Mesopotamia s public
works consisted of dikes, dams, city walls, warehouses, canals and ziggurats. Canals were one of the
most important public works because they were built to bring water to the cropping fields. Fifth, arts
and architecture definitely existed in Mesopotamia. For example, the Hanging Gardens, one of the
seven wonders of the ancient world, is located in Mesopotamia. The people of Mesopotamia also built
ziggurats and made elaborate designs on their pottery. Sixth, job specialization was very important in
Mesopotamia since not one person could master all the skills. Some of the many jobs in Mesopotamia
are farmers, weavers, potters, scribes, astronomers, and musicians. Scribes were very important since
they were the only people the knew how to write. Finally, Mesopotamia did have a complex religion.
They had a polytheistic belief which means that the people of Mesopotamia believed in many gods.
They also believed that the gods were associated with and controlled various forces of nature.
Whenever a bad thing happened, such as a flood, the Mesopotamians believed that they were getting
punished. Overall, it can be concluded that mesopotamia was a civilization.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Controlled Release
Figure. No.4: Plasma concentration vs time profile of a controlled release form.
 This means that they are actually controlling the drug concentration in the body, not just the release
of the drug from the dosage form, as is the case in a sustained release system.
 Another difference between sustained and controlled release is that the former are basically
restricted to oral dosage forms while controlled release systems are used in routes like transdermal,
oral and vaginal administration.
 Periodic administration of a drug by conventional means, such as taking a tablet every four hours,
can result in constantly changing systemic drug concentrations with alternating periods of
ineffectiveness and toxicity. Controlled release systems attempt to maintain a therapeutic
concentration of a drug in the body for an extended time by controlling the rate of delivery of the
drug.
 Controlled release systems are not necessarily target specific, which means that they do not
exclusively deliver the drug to the target organ. This may be achieved by so called targeted delivery
systems which aim to exploit the characteristics of the drug carrier and the drug target to control the
bio distribution of the drug.
Disadvantages of Conventional dosage forms:
 Periodic administration.
 Non specific administration.

The Persecution Of The Church
How many times have you been judged? Judged based on your looks, the way you act, your social
position, or your Christian faith. Every day, two hundred million Christians around the world are
judged and persecuted for what they put their faith in. Christians are the most persecuted religious
group in history and are persecuted for their faith in more than sixty countries ( About Christian
Persecution ). Persecution is a program or campaign to exterminate, drive away, or subjugate a people
because of their religion, race, or beliefs ( Persecution ). Even though believers face many struggles
now and then, the persecution of the church is causing the church to become stronger through the
hardships. Since the time of Jesus, Christians have been tempered in the fires of persecution. In the
newly formed early church, many Christians suffered because of the Roman Empire. Multiple servants
of the Lord including Peter, John, Stephen, James, Paul and more were some of the first recorded
Christians to be persecuted. This abuse became worse over the years until the worst period of
persecution beginning at the start of the fourth century, earning the name The Great Persecution. At
this time, Diocletian became emperor of Rome, and with his reign came new mandates. Christianity
was decreed as illicit, leaders of the church were imprisoned, thousands of Christians were killed, and
the ones who were not killed, were forced to worship false gods. It was not until the end of the fourth

The final set of mistakes was simply made by other people. Prison workers, for example. After

Teaching Assistant Essay
The traditional classroom, staffed by a single teacher is rapidly disappearing in schools across the UK.
(Wilson et al, 2003, cited in Parker, 2009)
Teaching Assistants
There are many titles currently in use to describe the role of a teaching assistant, such as: classroom
assistant (Lee and Mawson, 1998), learning support assistant (Farrell et al., 2000), teaching aides (Hall
et al., 1995), para educators (French and Chopra, 1999) and auxiliary support (McGarvey et al., 1996).
In the past, teaching assistants (TAs) were appointed as and when needed in an informal manner. For
example, if a need arose to support a student with special educational needs (SEN), or if a bit of extra
cash came to the school then a teaching assistant would be employed. However, it is now widely
recognised that a teaching assistant post should be properly advertised (Watkinson, 2010). There has
been a noticeable growth of teaching assistants over the years; according to the Department for
Education (2014), there has been an increase of 4.9% between 2012 and 2013. In line with this, there
is now notably a need for job descriptions and recognition of the successful candidate as becoming a
full member of the school staff.
The changing role of a teaching assistant
The role of a teaching assistant has dramatically changed over the years and continues to do so. There
are both arguments in support of the use of teaching assistant and against. An example of this is
Blatchford et al. (2006) who reported

Dante,Circles, And Characters In Dante Alighieri
Dante Alighieri was a major Italian poet of the Late Middle Ages, he was born into a family with a
complex involvement in the Florence political scene. In the Dante Alighieri s epic poem The Inferno,
Dante, the protagonist, witnesses the Circles of Hell, guided by Virgil the character representing
Human Reason. Alighieri shows compassion towards different sinners in Hell, which provides an
insight on the way he feels about people who do not repent. Although they are illustrated as good
people by the poet, they are punished within the different circles of Hell because they did not cleanse
themselves of sin. Through the uses of diction, actions of Dante and Virgil, and imagery, Alighieri was
able to show readers he felt compassion towards Farinata Degli Uberti, Pier Delle Vigne, and Count
Ugliono.
Alighieri shows compassion towards a sinner in the Sixth Circle named Farinata Degli Uberti, through
the use of diction and actions of Virgil and Dante. Farinata Degli Uberti is one of the damned who is
punished for Heresy, a person who believed that the soul dies with the body, denying life after death.
As a Heretic, his body is exhumed and burned in a tomb endlessly. When Virgil and Dante get to this
Circle, they speak to Farinata Uberti which allows for his body to rise from the tomb in order to speak
to them, Erect, he rose above the flame, great chest, great figure,... (Canto X, lines 34 35). Here Dante

The Machine Stops, By E. M. Forster
The Machine Stops Literary Analysis In the short story The Machine Stops , E. M. Forster gives us an
insight into a world where technology is in every aspect of our lives. Vashti, the main character, must
struggle with her internal conflict and her relations hip with the technology in their world. In addition,
Forster uses the central theme to explain our dependence on technology. He also uses symbolism and
irony to contribute to this central idea. Through this futuristic setting, Forster develops the
fundamental concept of blind faith and its influence in our everyday lives and choices. Firstly, we are
introduced to Vashti as a woman about five feet high, with a face as white as fungus. Although in her
society she is the perfect size, in our terms her body type could be described as a blob . She would just
be pile of flesh and this is due to the lack movement in their lives. As a music lecturer, Vashti is a star
citizen in the eyes of her society; however, she nly lectures on already established views of Australian
music. Tending to go along with the norms of society, she is a conformist and has no problem firmly
believing in what is considered normal . For example, when Kuno declares that he would like to go
outside to the surface, she argues that it is contrary to the spirit of the age. This means that she solely
disapproves because it is against the ideas of the society. Being quite firm in her beliefs, she can be
fairly stubborn as well. If she makes up

The Theme Of Bondage And Freedom
The Theme of Bondage and Freedom in African American Literature Shayla Carew Liberty University
Author Note: Shayla Carew, Master s of Teaching and Learning English program, Liberty University.
Contact: scarew@liberty.edu Abstract Black history is significant not only as a part of the black
community, but as a critical part of American history for all races and genders. Because of the
importance of the history of African Americans, Black History Month is celebrated annually. During
this special time of remembrance, people of different races take time to reflect on the historical events
that not only shaped the history of African Americans, but the history of America. There are a variety
of methods used in comprehending black history. Reading African American literature allows readers
to gain a higher quality understanding of the events that shaped black history. This paper will closely
examine the theme of bondage and freedom, which is a prominent theme in African American

Analysis Of Esther By Sylvia Plath
The stereotypical survivor could be described as someone who endured grueling physical obstacles,
survived and returned to normal life, and developed as a person since then. Sylvia Plath does not fit
the typical template of a survivor; she did not physically survive. However, the emotional and mental
stress she withstood the ten years prior to her suicide made her just as much of a survivor as anyone
who lived to tell their story. Although Plath eventually crumbled under the weight of her deteriorating
emotional stability, she persevered for as long as she could until she could take it no longer, making
her as strong as anyone who survived a physical challenge. The bell jar was a symbolic representation
of her emotional state throughout the novel, whether it be pre treatment, post treatment, or pre suicide.
Before her treatment with Dr. Nolan, Esther , the character name for Sylvia Plath, began a rapid
downward spiral beginning while she was still in college, which included a month of no sleep, a
withdrawal from social interaction, and several suicide attempts. At this time, the bell jar had closed in
on her, suffocating her from the inside. Everything reminded her of death. Esther had tried to drown
herself as one of her last suicide attempts before the beginning of her treatment, and prior to her
attempt she noticed that sharks teeth and whales earbones littered about down there like gravestones
(Plath 153). Her relating measly shark teeth as gravestones down

Solution Of Water Pollution
Introduction
People usually don t check the water they drink before drinking it because they trust that just because
it is in the bottle, water fountain, refrigerator (etc.) that it is free of pollutants, but that is not always
the case. Water pollution in drinking water is very common and dangerous because the
bacteria/pollutants can cause health problems that lead to death. There are a variety of diseases and
bacterias that lead to the health problems. What is water pollution?
Water pollution is generally described as a contaminated body of water. Water pollution is caused by
pollutants like chemicals and compounds. The Georgia Holt Environmental
Science Textbook defines water pollution as the introduction of chemicals, physical, or biological
agents into water that degrades water quality and adversely affect the organisms that depend on water.
These waters can be lakes, swamps, oceans, gulfs, rivers, aquifer and etc. Almost all water pollution
comes from industrialization and rapid population growth. Water pollution affects every aspect of life
from humans, plants, and animals. Water makes up 70% of the earth so water pollution affects animal
life such as the animals that live in water are affected because they can become sick and die off and
can affect the rest of the food chain which can affect the humans that eat them. That contamination
now is spread to the human population which negatively affects our communities and

Symbolism In The Story Of An Hour
The 19th Century short story of Kate Chopin entitled The Story of an Hour , describes the story of a
young married woman who was suffering from heart disease, which made it difficult for her sister to
bring her the news of the death of her beloved husband, but instead of deep sorrow, Mrs. Mallards, our
Principal character in the story felt a beautiful sense of freedom and relief. However, her dreams and
illusion were shattered when she saw her husband coming from the door alive. Through the use of
character arc enriched by symbolism and iron, the author reflected in a dramatic way how a 19th
century woman appreciated her freedom and living her own life as something marvelous in
comparison of being married serving someone else s. The Story of an Hour is the epiphany of a young
married woman; her realization of how important is the self, its freedom and liberation.
Kate Chopin was known for her controversial writings and her cheers for women s freedom and rights.
During the 19th when she wrote this story, there wasn t what we know today as women rights. Women
were considered as a property, when married, the rights of woman were legally given over to her
spouse as all her physical and moral belongings which expropriate all kind of freedoms and liberties

The Law Of Conservation Of Energy
This is my Theory: God desires to be relational and recreate himself, but it can t be done because he
stands alone, omnipotent. So he continuously creates, hopefully lovingly, yet he continuously has to
substitute himself reproducing only himself again. Having beside him... nothing but God. This is why
he is praised forever and ever amen. But why he s sorry when he has to wipe out the face of the earth
with the flood during Noah s time is that he is sorry that nothing is like him. What an honest and
sincere claim for the God of the universe! Yet he strives to still create, loving his creations till
substitution (of himself). Because some of his creation had to be destroyed due to God s desire to be
relational, yet loathe of sin. God can not recreate himself (Law of Conservation of Energy: Energy can
neither be created nor destroyed). There is only one God. That is why there is the law of conservation
of energy the energy therein can neither be created nor destroyed.
This is what I believe. It happens to correlate with what author of engaging God s world Mr. Cornelius
Plantiga Jr. has to say. Plantiga, exclaims that love and hope are the two most pertinent things we long
for as humans/Christians. Is he right? Of course. Can anyone deny when our master Jesus spoke the
two most important commandments: to love the Lord your God with all your heart and to love your
neighbor as yourself? In doing these two things what comes to your life is one everlasting happiness

Leadership Style And Personality Type I Possess
The five strengths identified by taking the Gallup Strengths Finder Survey were; Relator, Consistency,
Learner, Responsibility and Individualization. Each of these strengths are different in their own right
and give a solid base as to the type of leadership style and personality type I possess. It is the
combination of these strengths and how they are utilized that will determine the type of nurse
practitioner I will become in my practice.
A Relator is someone who works closely with others, is honest, candid and gravitates towards
methodical processes (Rath, 2007). Someone who identifies with the strength of Relator takes great

According to Rath (2007), setting up standardized ways of doing things is vital as it allows this person
to do the right thing consistently from a moral and legal perspective.
A person with the strength of Learner is someone who wants to continuously learn and improve, are
able to concentrate for long periods of time and are motivated to further educate themselves (Rath,
2007). A Learner isn t satisfied with mere answers, they must figure things out, solve the puzzle and
will continue to research the subject until satisfied with the knowledge gained even if it means losing
sleep to do it. Most Learners are self taught in many areas, are bold and dare to think outside the box
(Rath, 2007). Education is an important lifelong activity for this person as skills and information are
constantly being learned, tested and perfected.
Responsibility is taking ownership, committing to values and high standards (Rath, 2007). It is
important that things are done the right way with precision and accuracy. A person who identifies with
the strength of Responsibility is organized, consistent, predictable, ethically minded, efficient as well
as dependable (Rath, 2007). Often the more adult of their peers, they are motivated by
acknowledgement and are methodical in nature.
Individualization is most successful when they are on their own yet are able to see and utilize the
unique talents in others (Rath, 2007). This person believes

Yog Yoga And Yoga
In addition to meditation, yoga is also an important practice in Hinduism as well
as in Tibetan Buddhism. Yoga is used as a means to enlightenment and has influenced
other religious and spiritual practices throughout the world. The Bhagavad Gita and the
Yogasutra are some of the scriptures that establish the basis for yoga. The four main
types of yoga are Karma Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, Jnana Yoga and Raja Yoga. Yoga helps
gain a mastery over the body and mind and can lead to the knowledge of actual reality.
The ultimate goal of yoga is to attain liberation from suffering and the endless cycle of
birth and death. Yoga and meditation are used together in order to achieve this
liberation and one who studies yoga is referred to as a yogi.

Psalms were not only relegated to religious leader, they were also used by worshipers . Primarily, the
psalms were committed to memory, until the reformation period brought about the invention of the
printer, making access to books easier, and affordable .
This book also discusses the connection of David and the Psalms. It is mostly assumed that David was
the author of the majority of the Psalms . During the 19th century it was common to question that
assumption and deliberate the other authors as well . The Psalms are considered avenues of prayer,
and also instruction towards leading a godly life . Furthermore, the Psalms are prayers to be utilized
during times of distress . The Psalter is considered holy, and memorization was encouraged . This
book also acknowledges the importance of the scribes, and how their traditions were handed down
from one generation to the next. The primary purpose of the scribes was to continue the
Mesopotamian culture, and to show its lifestyle .
In respect to the ethical standpoint of the Psalms, it is asked how a prayer might impact a person s
ethics? Or do ethics affect how a person prays? Does the person praying connect to the Psalms, and if
so, understand their importance ? The Psalms also go back and forth between speaking in 1st and 3rd

Analysis Of Man On The Moon
Man On the Moon
When man first walked on the moon it was a very big accomplishment for mankind especially the
U.S.A., many people wrote articles or simply talked about and shared their opinions on this huge
accomplishment. In the text that appeared on Times magazine titled, Man Takes First Steps on the
Moon , one can see how much of an accomplishment it was for the U.S and many other people to have
been able to walk on the moon. In the text ethos and logos are used a few times to be able to make a
more possibly effective text on people reading the article and be able to show how much of a huge
deal this was for mankind. The following sentence is the first sentence in the paragraph which says a
lot about what the text is going to go towards, Neil Armstrong became the first man to take a walk on
the moon s surface early today. , seeing that the first sentence is about how a man walked on the moon
it shows most likely the rest of the text will be based around or on this man s actions. The next
sentence shows how many people including the president and pope expressed how it was a huge
accomplishment for mankind for a man to walk on the moon and make it back to Earth safely, At
Castelgandolfo the Pope greeted news of the lunar landing by exclaiming: Glory to God in the highest
and peace on earth to men of goodwill! , it makes sure to state it is the pope talking about the moon
landing.

Texting Dilemmas
Have you ever sent someone a long heartfelt text about how your day went and they just reply with the
letter K? This is just one problems that have occurred ever since the era of text messaging began and it
needs to stop. Social media is full of annoying text messages like one word response, people who read
your text then respond the next day or month, and lastly when people overuse of emoticons and text
talk like LOL. Texting needs to have guidelines so that people know what to do and what not to do
when texting another person. The first step to overcome the horrible texting dilemma is understanding
how to reply to a text appropriately. When people respond to text messages with a one word response
that doesn t follow the context of the text they re replying to they seem upset or rude even if they don t
mean to. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The overuse of these things can drive people insane and even end a friendship, which is something
that no one wants. Majority of the time when people do this the use them inappropriately, for example
when someone is talking about something that isn t funny but rather sad they end the text with lol,
which stands for laugh out loud. Text exchanges often drip with these LOL s the way normal writing
drips commas...no mentally composed human being spends his or her life immersed in ceaseless
hilarity. The LOLs must mean something else (McWhorter). Just like any other word when people
LOL or even emojis too much they start to lose their meaning or they can even offend the reader.
Texting is like writing a good essay, when people repeat themselves over and over they re just using
circular reasoning. People who have this problem just need to chant in their head I will not use LOL. I
will not use the same emoji. I will not use LOL . Once they get the hang of using text slang and
emoticons appropriately the texting world will be a better

The excessive use of oil in the United States has been a very controversial debate with American
experts and scientists. In his article How America Can Free Itself of Oil Profitability, Amory Lovins
addresses the many different issues associated with excessive oil consumption and the risks versus the
benefits. Amory Lovins is a physicist, environmental scientist, writer, and Chairman/Chief Scientist of
the Rocky Mountain Institute. He has written numerous research articles arguing for the use of
renewable energy and alternatives for oil. Lovins also regularly gives presentations to other
environmentalists discussing the pros and cons of oil consumption. It is clear that his target audience
is the demographic of academics, scientists, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In paragraph 6 Lovins states that Inefficient light trucks and cars, which consume 40% of our oil, are
at the center of our oil habit. And ultralight and ultrastrong materials for vehicles are the No. 1
enabling technology for changing that. He reaffirms this point with many more facts and statistics
throughout this article. Lovins other main point is the benefit of using biofuels as a substitute for oil.
He encourages his point of view in paragraph one on page three by saying that Oil industry giants like
Shell and BP are already preparing to move beyond oil by transforming themselves into energy
companies.
Lovins argument is valid and provides good evidence to support his point of view. He mainly uses
logos in his arguments. This article is full of statistics which may make the argument valid, but does
not necessarily make it a good, well rounded argument. Although Lovins did a very good job using
logos, he missed some very easy opportunities to use ethos and pathos in his argument as well.
Providing information on how much America s overconsumption of oil is negatively affecting the
environment would be a very effective method of using ethos and pathos in his argument without
deviating from his logos style of writing. To effectively use ethos and pathos, Lovins could have
provided statistics on how many

laceration of my left arm near the wrist, which, fortunately, was able to be treated and partially

I suffered a laceration of my arm, which proceeded laterally from the medial aspect of my left wrist.
The laceration only reached about halfway across this site, but that was enough to cause major
physiopathology in my left hand (primarily). The laceration severed my left ulnar nerve, ulnar artery,
and palmar interossei. I immediately lost sensation in the region described above (pinky and medial
aspect of ring finger, as well as proximally down my entire hand). Table 14.4 in the textbook
illustrates exactly the region affected (McKinley, O Loughlin, Bidle 556). I completely lost motor
control of the affected region, as well. I received first aid, and eventually surgeons were able to repair
the nerve, ligate the artery ( to tie, as in ligament or ligature ; the artery could not be repaired), and
repair the palmar interossei. The reason that I still have a functioning left hand is that both the ulnar
and radial arteries supply blood to the hand. As the textbook describes (as if the authors are describing
my own situation), If the left ulnar artery were cut, the left hand and fingers could still receive blood
via the left radial artery, since both vessels contribute to the superficial and deep palmar arches

this happen, but supported Hitler s decision to kill off millions of people and treated them so unfairly.

Women In Beowulf
When thinking about great poems coming out of the middle ages Beowulf is the most iconic and well
recognized pieces of work. It is about the great quest of Beowulf who is the fantastic protagonist and
through his bravery and manliness he prevails when all others could not. He is not the most interesting
character however. Even though the female characters are not the heroes of the narrative they deserve
much more appreciation, their actions are worth prowling into in this male centric work. On the
surface the women embedded in this epic seem to hold little value, are given almost no lines and are
even the villain Beowulf must defeat. Their roles are often underestimated because of the notion that
they are subservient to man and without them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her character at first glance, is to make add another fantastic kill by Beowulf but she is much more
significant than that. The mother represents what a woman should not be in society. Her grotesque
image, vengeful motives, and greedy, grim minded clearly address the audience what power a woman
should not have (Beowulf 1276 1277). She is essential to illustrate and enforce what happens when a
woman becomes an outcast in the tribe. She does not fulfil the female duties of a hostess, peace waver
or a wife. Grendel s mother failed as a hostess when she tried to kill Beowulf when he entered her
home, as a peace weaver by not being able to negotiate compensation and as a wife because no
mention of a husband was noted. Her power alone though is nothing to underestimate, she would have
ended [Beowulfs] life under the wide ground (Beowulf 1550 1551) if he had not grabbed the magical
sword. Grendel s mother would have gotten no compensation from Beowulf after he killed her son
because he is an outlaw. As a result of this, she must play an active role in the sad journey to avenge
her son s death (Beowulf 1278), one the audience may sympathize with but under any circumstances
could not be fulfilled. This is due to the fact that the mother is an embodiment of Jeffrey Cohen s

Similarities Between a Global Leader and an Effective...
A global leader has a lot of things in common with an effective innovator and one of the principal
similarities between the two involves their ability to coordinate teams with the purpose of achieving
goals in a limited amount of time and with as little impediments as possible. It is only safe to say that
innovation is a team sport and that a global leader thus needs to focus on this concept in order to be
able to assist his subordinates in meeting deadlines.
In most cases global leaders feel that it is not up to them to come up with innovative solutions. Rather,
they feel responsible for facilitating the innovation process. (Dyer, Gregersen, Christensen) Even with
the fact that being an entrepreneur in many cases means having to criticize creative individuals for
failing to play an active part in the actual production process, there is much more to being a global
leader. Such a person basically needs to employ complex attitudes in order for him or her to be able to
cooperate effectively with all of his or her subordinates.
Effective innovators are in some situations less concerned about matters like discipline or
accountability. This is why it is difficult for many global leaders to be able to adopt attitudes that
would involve innovation, as they are unwilling to take risks and thus believe that they should solely
concentrate on increasing profits through employing rational actions. Similar to how global leaders are
reluctant to consider innovation as a strategy

  • 2. Secondhand Smoke Research Paper The first myth is trying to express that, the climate change has been there before. Meaning that, the changes in temperature, the amount of carbondiocixed and change in rainfall pattern have been there before and it is not new and is not anything to worry about. By its name the myth, was just misleading people. The answer to this myth is, the changes in climate have come about due to human acts and industrialization. Some of the acts are, caress cutting down of tree, emission of carbon into the atmosphere due to the use of fuels. These two agents of climate change are changing the climate on a faster note. The second myth which is saying, plants and animals can adapt to the climate is also lying. The answer to this myth is, plants and animals cannot adapt to these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At first, I was taking the environment for granted. Now, I am able to talk to people in my community on conserving and sustaining the environment like, proper ways of managing waste, following sustainable agriculture, avoiding clearing forest and avoid poaching to maintain biodiversity and ecosystem. I have chosen to answer a review question from unit 12. The question is why is secondhand smoke dangerous? Secondhand smoke which comes out from cigarettes and smokers is very dangerous to the lives of people. Secondhand smoke contains over 7,000 harmful chemicals, which damage human health. Secondhand smoke causes lung and respiratory problems. The course is going on well. It is not hard, it only requires critical reading and understanding of the textbook. The first challenge I am facing is failing to read the units for weeks 1, 2 and 3. I had problems in downloading the textbook due to network failure. I had to travel to the city, to access network and that was in week four. The second one is, the time allocated to graded quiz was not enough as compared to number of questions. • 3. Who Is D Amville In Atheist s Tragedy D Amville, the main antagonist in the tragedy The Atheist s Tragedy by Cyril Tourneur, ponders the meaning of life throughout the play. After a climactic conversation with Borachio, D Amville makes his stance on life very clear: life is limited, life is short, and the only way to defeat the forces of nature and to extend life is through a healthy, wealthy, offspring. This idea alone becomes the motive for many of D Amville s decisions: it is because of this concept that he kills his brother, Montferrers; it is because of this ideology that he is determined to marry off his son, and when that plot fails, this ideology is the main motivation for his attempted rape of Castabella. In the beginning of the play, everything is going according to D Amville s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Every time D Amville speaks in verse, he follows the rhythmic patterns of iambic pentameter. As he discusses the importance of his children to his life, asserting that There s my eternity...[which will] add to life as much of happiness , D Amville follows the rules of iambic pentameter without flaw (Tourneur, 254, 1.1.124 127). For example, in the lines And IN my REAson DWELLS the PROvidENCE/to ADD to LIFE as MUCH of HAppiNESS , we see that there are five pairs of stressed syllable and five pairs of unstressed syllables in each of these lines. Moreover, these lines, just like many others in this section, correctly follow the unstressed, stressed pattern. He does not waver, or mistakenly add or remove a syllable; rather he is entirely confident in his speech. Throughout all of his lines, in this passage, his meter is fixed, and it is stable. During the first few pages of the play, whenever D Amville speaks, he continues to use the same manner in his speech. Just as he is unwavering in his speech, just as he is firm in his words, he is also firm in the beliefs he expresses in these lines. He stresses that IN his reason, the solution lies. He also stresses the word DWELLS, which also emphasizes his idea that reason is truly where he believes happiness and providence reside. His speech is, therefore, a reflection of his attitude; just as he does not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Temporal Processing Paper Temporal processing relates to the incorporation and integration of diverse acoustic signals over time. The auditory system works to address the spectral and temporal modulations of speech, identification of sound location, speech in noise, and other environmental and auditory stimuli. Temporal processing consists of the ability to sequence, discriminate, integrate, and mask incoming auditory signals (Shinn, 2003). The auditory system recognizes the location and discrimination of sounds through communication of neurons in the central ascending auditory pathway. Phase locking with varying frequency cutoffs based on test subjects affects this coding of signal (Paolini, FitzGerald, Burkitt, Clark, 2001). Neurons must fire fast and precise in order to detect the brief time differences between stimuli. With the help of potassium channels at both presynaptic and postsynaptic action potential (AP) locations, these neurons remain constantly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the activation of the Kv3.1 potassium channel, these neurons phase locked precisely to acoustic stimuli presented up to 2000 to 4000 Hz (Song and Kaczmarek, 2006). Regulation of certain potassium channels, both increasing and decreasing the influx of potassium, relied on the process of sound activated phosphorylation and sound activated dephosphorylation after the onset of loud noises (Steinert et al., 2008). Stimulation of Kv3.1a and Kv3.1b channels expressed in the globular bushy cells of the AVCN and principle neurons of MNTB strongly depended on the process of phosphorylation and dephosphorylation. Research focused on the process of activation with the Kv3.1b channel in adult cells, as the shorter Kv3.1a expressed greater quantities in embryonic cells (Kaczmarek et al., 2005). Through this process, the influx of potassium affected the activation of neurons in the ascending auditory ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Tell Tale Heart Dark Romanticism Essay An Evolution of Dark Romanticism The Tell Tale Heart Dark Romanticism illustrates the subgenre of Romanticism and it often explores man s capacity for malevolence. Edgar Allen Poe is one the writers of Dark Romanticism and in his story, The Tell Tale heart , he explores humanity s propensity to commit sin. The story is based on the concept of sin and apathy, as the narrator tries to convince the reader that he is nervous, not mad. Dark Romanticism consists in showing man s malevolent nature and engages with the concept of man s darkness. Therefore, in the The Tell Tale Heart , the narrator s evil actions demonstrate the story s inclusion in the genre specific of Dark Romanticism. The eyes could represent his psychological sin and guilt, and the old man depicts his own personality. He wants to get rid of the eyes because it has a darkness sin which does not allow him to have a good sanity. The narrator separates the old man s personality to his eye, and in the end, he assumes by getting rid of the eyes he could still love the man and live in peace with his mental sanity. • 6. Narrative Reflection Coming into Drexel, an important factor I learned was to have a clear understanding in the art and mechanics for literature composition. I learned that it would mature my writing to a higher level of thinking. My past experiences in my writing through high school English teacher feedback indicated my writing to be full of flaws. I often would receive feedback on my writing being awkwardly worded or lacking fluidity. The one valuable skill I learned from English courses here at Drexel was the idea that exposure to different readings, conceptual knowledge in writing and informal writing practices give practice, in order for me to find my own voice in writing. For instance, in my English 101 class, where my personal narrative for instance demonstrates an efficient dynamics, especially in the importance of articulating a message. Furthermore, for my drafts I received much advice which would be altered or incorporated within the final piece. Concerns such as the addition of dialogue, grammar and tense issues and overall style would be explicitly answered throughout the process of revising and editing my draft. General criticism, however I was given about my narrative was the idea that it needed clarity, by focusing on a specific event. The account of my summer experience in Pakistan such as how I felt before leaving the country to embracing the lifestyle of my relatives needed more depth, a central theme. Since my encounter of witnessing poverty first hand conveyed a powerful ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis Of Uncle Tom s Cabin By Harriet Beecher Stowe Harriet Beecher Stowe was an author during the 1800s and wrote Uncle Tom s Cabin which was far ahead of its time and depicted the evils of slavery. Harriet Beecher Stowe was born on June 14th, 1811 in Litchfield, Connecticut as the seventh child of Lyman and Roxana Beecher. Being that she was born in the North to extremely religious parents, she too of course was quite religious as well as an abolitionist. Unlike most women of her time period, Harriet Beecher Stowe was educated at a school for girls in all of the classic subjects(language, math, etc.). Later in her life, Stowe moved to Cincinnati, Ohio where Irish riots against black people contributed to her ideas of slavery and her abolitionist novels. One day, while in a literary club, Stowe ... The triangle fire was the result of dangerous work conditions, neglected safety features and locked doors within the factory building. The film maker had an agenda of how the film was presented. Order was present in the movie. The film was trying to tell the world that because of careless behavior a lot of people died for no reason. The fire was the result of careless behavior that cost a lot of people their lives. The film as evidence had people who lived during the tringle fire talk about how the experience was. Nabucco was a play by Florentine dramatist Giovanni Battista Niccolini. In its published edition, Niccolini`s play carried a complex key for the understanding the political allusion in the work. The second story of Nabucco again appeared on the Italian stage, this time in the form of five act ballet written by Antonio Cortesi and performed at La Scala in 1838. The work was written and performed for the Coronation Season at La Scala. Commemorating the crowning of Austrian Emperor Ferdinand as King of Lombardy and Venetia, an event that marked the high point of Austrian domination in Italy. Temistocle Solera appears to have based his libretto to this scenario, and it was with its scenery and costume that Marelli first staged Verdi`s opera. The opera was based on a plot taken from the Old Testament of the Bible, Daniel 4:29 33, the story of Zechariach and the Jews suppressed by Babylon s King Nebuchadnezzar whose name for purposes of song is reduced to Nabucco and his resentful daughter, ... Canals were one of the most important public works because they were built to bring water to the cropping fields. Fifth, arts and architecture definitely existed in Mesopotamia. For example, the Hanging Gardens, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, is located in Mesopotamia. The people of Mesopotamia also built ziggurats and made elaborate designs on their pottery. Sixth, job specialization was very important in Mesopotamia since not one person could master all the skills. Some of the many jobs in Mesopotamia are farmers, weavers, potters, scribes, astronomers, and musicians. Scribes were very important since they were the only people the knew how to write. Finally, Mesopotamia did have a complex religion. They had a polytheistic belief which means that the people of Mesopotamia believed in many gods. Every day, two hundred million Christians around the world are judged and persecuted for what they put their faith in. Christians are the most persecuted religious group in history and are persecuted for their faith in more than sixty countries ( About Christian Persecution ). Persecution is a program or campaign to exterminate, drive away, or subjugate a people because of their religion, race, or beliefs ( Persecution ). Even though believers face many struggles now and then, the persecution of the church is causing the church to become stronger through the hardships. Since the time of Jesus, Christians have been tempered in the fires of persecution. In the newly formed early church, many Christians suffered because of the Roman Empire. Multiple servants of the Lord including Peter, John, Stephen, James, Paul and more were some of the first recorded Christians to be persecuted. • 18. Teaching Assistant Essay The traditional classroom, staffed by a single teacher is rapidly disappearing in schools across the UK. (Wilson et al, 2003, cited in Parker, 2009) Teaching Assistants There are many titles currently in use to describe the role of a teaching assistant, such as: classroom assistant (Lee and Mawson, 1998), learning support assistant (Farrell et al., 2000), teaching aides (Hall et al., 1995), para educators (French and Chopra, 1999) and auxiliary support (McGarvey et al., 1996). In the past, teaching assistants (TAs) were appointed as and when needed in an informal manner. For example, if a need arose to support a student with special educational needs (SEN), or if a bit of extra cash came to the school then a teaching assistant would be employed. However, it is now widely recognised that a teaching assistant post should be properly advertised (Watkinson, 2010). There has been a noticeable growth of teaching assistants over the years; according to the Department for Education (2014), there has been an increase of 4.9% between 2012 and 2013. Forster gives us an insight into a world where technology is in every aspect of our lives. Vashti, the main character, must struggle with her internal conflict and her relations hip with the technology in their world. In addition, Forster uses the central theme to explain our dependence on technology. He also uses symbolism and irony to contribute to this central idea. Through this futuristic setting, Forster develops the fundamental concept of blind faith and its influence in our everyday lives and choices. Firstly, we are introduced to Vashti as a woman about five feet high, with a face as white as fungus. Although in her society she is the perfect size, in our terms her body type could be described as a blob . She would just be pile of flesh and this is due to the lack movement in their lives. As a music lecturer, Vashti is a star citizen in the eyes of her society; however, she nly lectures on already established views of Australian music. Tending to go along with the norms of society, she is a conformist and has no problem firmly believing in what is considered normal . For example, when Kuno declares that he would like to go outside to the surface, she argues that it is contrary to the spirit of the age. Analysis Of Esther By Sylvia Plath The stereotypical survivor could be described as someone who endured grueling physical obstacles, survived and returned to normal life, and developed as a person since then. Sylvia Plath does not fit the typical template of a survivor; she did not physically survive. However, the emotional and mental stress she withstood the ten years prior to her suicide made her just as much of a survivor as anyone who lived to tell their story. Although Plath eventually crumbled under the weight of her deteriorating emotional stability, she persevered for as long as she could until she could take it no longer, making her as strong as anyone who survived a physical challenge. The bell jar was a symbolic representation of her emotional state throughout the novel, whether it be pre treatment, post treatment, or pre suicide. Before her treatment with Dr. Nolan, Esther , the character name for Sylvia Plath, began a rapid downward spiral beginning while she was still in college, which included a month of no sleep, a withdrawal from social interaction, and several suicide attempts. At this time, the bell jar had closed in on her, suffocating her from the inside. Everything reminded her of death. • 33. Texting Dilemmas Have you ever sent someone a long heartfelt text about how your day went and they just reply with the letter K? This is just one problems that have occurred ever since the era of text messaging began and it needs to stop. Social media is full of annoying text messages like one word response, people who read your text then respond the next day or month, and lastly when people overuse of emoticons and text talk like LOL. Texting needs to have guidelines so that people know what to do and what not to do when texting another person. The first step to overcome the horrible texting dilemma is understanding how to reply to a text appropriately. When people respond to text messages with a one word response that doesn t follow the context of the text they re replying to they seem upset or rude even if they don t mean to. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The overuse of these things can drive people insane and even end a friendship, which is something that no one wants. Majority of the time when people do this the use them inappropriately, for example when someone is talking about something that isn t funny but rather sad they end the text with lol, which stands for laugh out loud. Text exchanges often drip with these LOL s the way normal writing drips commas...no mentally composed human being spends his or her life immersed in ceaseless hilarity. The LOLs must mean something else (McWhorter). Just like any other word when people LOL or even emojis too much they start to lose their meaning or they can even offend the reader. Texting is like writing a good essay, when people repeat themselves over and over they re just using circular reasoning. People who have this problem just need to chant in their head I will not use LOL. I will not use the same emoji. I will not use LOL . Once they get the hang of using text slang and emoticons appropriately the texting world will be a better ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Analysis Of The Article How America Can Free Itself Of... The excessive use of oil in the United States has been a very controversial debate with American experts and scientists. In his article How America Can Free Itself of Oil Profitability, Amory Lovins addresses the many different issues associated with excessive oil consumption and the risks versus the benefits. Amory Lovins is a physicist, environmental scientist, writer, and Chairman/Chief Scientist of the Rocky Mountain Institute. He has written numerous research articles arguing for the use of renewable energy and alternatives for oil. Lovins also regularly gives presentations to other environmentalists discussing the pros and cons of oil consumption. It is clear that his target audience is the demographic of academics, scientists, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In paragraph 6 Lovins states that Inefficient light trucks and cars, which consume 40% of our oil, are at the center of our oil habit. And ultralight and ultrastrong materials for vehicles are the No. 1 enabling technology for changing that. He reaffirms this point with many more facts and statistics throughout this article. Lovins other main point is the benefit of using biofuels as a substitute for oil. He encourages his point of view in paragraph one on page three by saying that Oil industry giants like Shell and BP are already preparing to move beyond oil by transforming themselves into energy companies. Lovins argument is valid and provides good evidence to support his point of view. He mainly uses logos in his arguments. This article is full of statistics which may make the argument valid, but does not necessarily make it a good, well rounded argument. Although Lovins did a very good job using logos, he missed some very easy opportunities to use ethos and pathos in his argument as well. Providing information on how much America s overconsumption of oil is negatively affecting the environment would be a very effective method of using ethos and pathos in his argument without deviating from his logos style of writing. To effectively use ethos and pathos, Lovins could have provided statistics on how many ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Medical Experience Research Paper Gavin McDowell Amy Professor Swathi Seeke Human Anatomy Physiology I April 11, 2016 Medical Experience Sharing Paper Ulnar Nerve Trailer The medical experience topic I would like to explore and discuss is the ulnar nerve, a large and important nerve, and the anatomical and physiological sequelae of damage to it. The topic is based on my own experience. In 2010, I suffered a severe laceration of my left arm near the wrist, which, fortunately, was able to be treated and partially relatively quickly. This is part of the reason that I was medically retired from the Army in 2012, for combat related injuries. The ulnar artery of that arm and several interossial tendons were also severed. The artery was ligated (tied), and the nerve was repaired ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I suffered a laceration of my arm, which proceeded laterally from the medial aspect of my left wrist. The laceration only reached about halfway across this site, but that was enough to cause major physiopathology in my left hand (primarily). The laceration severed my left ulnar nerve, ulnar artery, and palmar interossei. I immediately lost sensation in the region described above (pinky and medial aspect of ring finger, as well as proximally down my entire hand). Table 14.4 in the textbook illustrates exactly the region affected (McKinley, O Loughlin, Bidle 556). I completely lost motor control of the affected region, as well. I received first aid, and eventually surgeons were able to repair the nerve, ligate the artery ( to tie, as in ligament or ligature ; the artery could not be repaired), and repair the palmar interossei. The reason that I still have a functioning left hand is that both the ulnar and radial arteries supply blood to the hand. As the textbook describes (as if the authors are describing my own situation), If the left ulnar artery were cut, the left hand and fingers could still receive blood via the left radial artery, since both vessels contribute to the superficial and deep palmar arches (McKinley, O Loughlin, Bidle ... • 36. The Holocaust And The Holocaust Survivors The Holocaust was a genocide during World War II that caused millions of people to die. The Holocaust was the event where Nazi Germany killed millions of people that they did not seem to be a part of the Nazi s Master Race. Adolf Hitler was the leader of Germany at the time and was a major supporter of their attempt at creating the Master Race and eliminating those whom he did not see being a part of his Master Race. Adolf Hitler and Germany caused one of the largest death tolls and most well known genocide in history, which is known now as the holocaust. My reaction to the Second Generation to Holocaust Survivors: Enhanced Differentiation of Trauma Transmission. written by, Micha Weiss and Sima Weiss is that those poor, innocent people were killed or scarred for life for something they cannot control. I feel awful for all those kids and young people who had to live the rest of their lives out after experiencing their parents be killed or starved to death and seeing all those other people around them being killed. I also feel angry that Germany let this happen, and not only let this happen, but supported Hitler s decision to kill off millions of people and treated them so unfairly. Gail told of the death of her father after she was two, and thereafter moving between foster homes, due to her mother s inability to provide for her. (Micha Weiss and Sima Weiss) I could not imagine how hard it would be to grow up being passed around by foster homes and not knowing or having ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Women In Beowulf When thinking about great poems coming out of the middle ages Beowulf is the most iconic and well recognized pieces of work. It is about the great quest of Beowulf who is the fantastic protagonist and through his bravery and manliness he prevails when all others could not. He is not the most interesting character however. Even though the female characters are not the heroes of the narrative they deserve much more appreciation, their actions are worth prowling into in this male centric work. On the surface the women embedded in this epic seem to hold little value, are given almost no lines and are even the villain Beowulf must defeat. Their roles are often underestimated because of the notion that they are subservient to man and without them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Her character at first glance, is to make add another fantastic kill by Beowulf but she is much more significant than that. The mother represents what a woman should not be in society. Her grotesque image, vengeful motives, and greedy, grim minded clearly address the audience what power a woman should not have (Beowulf 1276 1277). She is essential to illustrate and enforce what happens when a woman becomes an outcast in the tribe. She does not fulfil the female duties of a hostess, peace waver or a wife. Grendel s mother failed as a hostess when she tried to kill Beowulf when he entered her home, as a peace weaver by not being able to negotiate compensation and as a wife because no mention of a husband was noted. Her power alone though is nothing to underestimate, she would have ended [Beowulfs] life under the wide ground (Beowulf 1550 1551) if he had not grabbed the magical sword. Grendel s mother would have gotten no compensation from Beowulf after he killed her son because he is an outlaw. As a result of this, she must play an active role in the sad journey to avenge her son s death (Beowulf 1278), one the audience may sympathize with but under any circumstances could not be fulfilled. This is due to the fact that the mother is an embodiment of Jeffrey Cohen s Monster Culture thesis five; the monster and all that it embodies must be exiled ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Similarities Between a Global Leader and an Effective... A global leader has a lot of things in common with an effective innovator and one of the principal similarities between the two involves their ability to coordinate teams with the purpose of achieving goals in a limited amount of time and with as little impediments as possible. It is only safe to say that innovation is a team sport and that a global leader thus needs to focus on this concept in order to be able to assist his subordinates in meeting deadlines. In most cases global leaders feel that it is not up to them to come up with innovative solutions. Rather, they feel responsible for facilitating the innovation process. (Dyer, Gregersen, Christensen) Even with the fact that being an entrepreneur in many cases means having to criticize creative individuals for failing to play an active part in the actual production process, there is much more to being a global leader. Such a person basically needs to employ complex attitudes in order for him or her to be able to cooperate effectively with all of his or her subordinates. Effective innovators are in some situations less concerned about matters like discipline or accountability. This is why it is difficult for many global leaders to be able to adopt attitudes that would involve innovation, as they are unwilling to take risks and thus believe that they should solely concentrate on increasing profits through employing rational actions. Similar to how global leaders are reluctant to consider innovation as a strategy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
