College Essay Personal Statement Examples
Creating an essay on the topic of "College Essay Personal Statement Examples" can be a
challenging task. While the subject might seem straightforward, the difficulty lies in the personal
nature of the content. Crafting a personal statement involves introspection, self-analysis, and the
ability to articulate one's experiences and aspirations effectively.
Firstly, finding the right balance between showcasing personal achievements and maintaining
humility can be a delicate task. Writers often face the challenge of presenting themselves in a
positive light without coming across as arrogant. Moreover, selecting the most impactful
experiences to include in the essay requires careful consideration, as there is often a word limit
that necessitates prioritization.
Another hurdle is the pressure to stand out among a pool of applicants. With countless personal
statements submitted each year, creating a unique and memorable essay becomes imperative.
This involves avoiding clichГ©s and generic statements while ensuring that the narrative is both
engaging and authentic.
Additionally, the emotional aspect of sharing personal stories can be emotionally draining.
Writers may grapple with the vulnerability of exposing their innermost thoughts and experiences,
especially when addressing challenges or setbacks. Striking the right emotional tone is crucial, as
an overly sentimental essay may not resonate well with admissions committees.
Lastly, the overall structure and coherence of the essay demand meticulous attention. Ensuring a
smooth flow from introduction to conclusion, and incorporating relevant personal details
seamlessly, adds another layer of complexity.
In conclusion, writing an essay on "College Essay Personal Statement Examples" necessitates
navigating the fine line between self-promotion and humility, crafting a unique narrative,
managing emotional vulnerability, and maintaining structural integrity. It's a challenging process
that requires time, introspection, and a keen understanding of what makes a compelling personal
statement.

The Controllers Of The Air Controllers
Tenerife Air Controllers As mentioned, the air controllers on staff on Sunday,
March 27, 1977 was light. This airport was small and on a normal day did not have
a lot of air traffic. The airport was not equipped to handle the amount of planes, or
the large planes because they were not the appropriate size nor did they have the
proper dimensions to allow the large planes to make the appropriate maneuvers.
There was no ground radar, there was no ground lights, clouds are moving in and
minimizing visibility, and they had to work in their second language. Why did the
controllers ever feel it was safe to guide planes they were unfamiliar with
completely blind? Why did they not ground the planes when the fog moved in?
Controllers are in charge of ensuring the planes safely land and take off by managing
the order of takeoffand each plane s direction. If they cannot see them how are they
able to effectively do this?
Leadership Style Van Zanten s leadership style not only affected the performance
of his own team, but impacted his decisions, Pan Am cockpit crew, the controllers
and all the passengers on both planes. He did not appear to be focused on people
during his decision making at Tenerife, and it is not questionable if there was ever
a focus on people. He is very task concerned, and in the case of Tenerife very
focused on himself and hitting the Dutch law deadline, which caused him to not
focus fully on the task of flying his plane safely off of Tenerife. On a normal day

Characteristics Of The Enlightenment
The Enlightenment refers to an intellectual movement, which started in England and
gain momentum in France in the 17th and 18th century. Ideals of this cultural
movement eventually influenced the rest of the world. The enlightenment focused on
key principles such as equality, liberty and the right to life; many ideals that modern
governments centered on today. The Enlightenment, adopted several types
philosophies about how we think and understand what s going on around us rejecting
ideals of faith alone, and embracing reasoning and rationalism. In this assignment we
were asked to choose from four political documents that are heavily influenced by
characteristics of the Enlightenment era: Declaration of the Rights of Man and the
Citizen, US Constitution and Bill of Rights, Haiti Constitutions (1801), and Haiti
Constitution (1805); although, all of these documents have their own flaws due to
views of the period, I feel as though The Declaration of the Rights of Man and the
Citizen embodied more sentiments of the period. Consisting of 17 articles, The
Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen, was strongly influenced by the
theories of the social contract and individualism expressed by Jean Jacques Rousseau
as well as the separation of powers theory discussed by Baron de Montesquieu. I also
chose The Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen, because this document
inspired the making of other politic documents gobally.
Social contract is defined as the
Powdery Mildew Research Paper
Powdery mildew is cause by a biotrophic, obligate fungus Uncinula necator now
known as Erysiphe necator (Schw.) Burr (Sall, M. A. 1980). It is the most
devastating and widespread disease of grapevine in the world and causes the
significant loss to grape yield and quality (Gadoury et al. 2012). This is the major
grapevine disease causing significant yield reduction each year in California, which
is the top grape producing state in the United States (Gubler et al. 1999). This disease
infect all the commercially grown grape species, but the susceptibility differs with
cultivars.
This disease first produces a chlorotic spot on the upper surface of leaf and the
chorotic spot produces whitish gray powdery fungal growth on the upper surface of
the leaf and other infected plant parts. The white webby mycelium also produced on
subsequent lower surface. This pathogen affects all the green tissue such as leaf,
branch, and fruits. The young fruits ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ascospores can be produced with the help of 0.1 inch of rainfall and temperature of
about 500 F. Ascospores are dispersed with the help of wind and primary infection
takes place on the host. Secondary infection occurs through conidia, which are
produced on infected plant parts (lesion) and dusty powdery growth appears on the
surface with whitish mycelial growth. Conidia cause the secondary infection
throughout the growing season. Infection can takes place in the temperatures from
590 F to 900 F, but the temperature from 680 to 770 F are optimum temperature for
infection. Fungus can overwinter as mycelia inside the dormant bud, which produced
disease shoot after breading bud. High relative humidity is conducive for conidia
production, but rainfall is not good for infection that reduces the infection by this
pathogen (Carrol et al.
Vicious Cycle Of Animal Abuse
The Earth never wavers in support of its inhabitants no matter how those habitants
degrade and destroy it. Humans take from the Earth whatever they want and are
mostly neglectful in returning any compensation. This vicious cycle of damage
(such as food source and freshwater depletion) will continue if the current rate at
which people are being born does not begin to slow down, and if the existing masses
do not begin to realize that they have askewed the notions of necessity and
indulgence; materialism is not the dominant source of happiness in life. People have
become so ignorant of this that they have taught themselves that they deserve a joyful
life at the expense of nature. The Earthcannot continue to be stripped of its finite
amount... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This has caused farming companies to find faster ways of raising livestock and the
animals take the abuse of these techniques. Animals are being kept in tightly
confined spaces, crowded together to the point where they cannot move. Chickens
are confined to tiny wire cages where they are feed so much that they grow too fast
and break their legs under their own weight. Pigs and cows are held in large pens
filled so full with their feces that they contract many diseases, and die horrible deaths.
Also, many of the people who regulate all of these horrible conditions take their own
frustrations out on the animals, or they take pleasure in causing pain onto these
defenseless creatures. Even with the need for more meat, animals should not have to
suffer the ignorance of humans; humanity should be smart enough to find more
humane methods of raising animals. Also, because land is essential for survival,
more of it is being taken away from wildlife, ensuring the destruction of many
different species. Already, many different species are endangered, but people and
companies are not rectifying this. Instead, people have taken away habitat for plants
and animals, sucked up their water, and surround them with pollution
(Biologicaldiversity.org 1). For example, the florida panther population has
plummeted as the state s population has almost doubled The Earth depends on
biodiversity to survive, but humans, because of their unfaltering desire for luxury, are
setting themselves up for destruction. However, it is not just the elimination of land
that is causing this, but also overfishing, and overhunting. The bluefish tuna has
been severely overfished to the point where one, single fish sold for $396,000
(biologicaldiversity.org). Fisheries have to have a catch reduction of 20 50 percent is
needed to make global fisheries sustainable but it is not
How Did Godwin Rise To Power
Godwin was born in 1001 in Sussex to Wulfnoth, Thegn of Sussex.
Godwin s rise to power was rapid. In 1017, when King Cnut created the English
Earldoms, Godwin became the Earl of Wessex. Two years later he went with Cnut
on a visit to Denmark, where Cnut was so impressed by Godwin that he arranged
for him to marry Gytha, sister of Ulf.They had several children: Swegen, Tostig,
Harold, Gyrth and Edith. By the time Edward the Confessor became king in 1042 he
was the most powerful Earl in Anglo Saxon England. King Edward married Edith in
order to keep Godwin loyal to him and his sons became Earls (Swegen became the
Earl of Hereford, Gloucester and Oxford and Harold became the Earl of East Anglia).
He also had a nephew (Beorn) who was Earl of Hertforshire
Nazi Propaganda Poster Analysis
The intended goals of the influential posters were to influence public opinion
whether it be for or against a precise political agenda. These propaganda posters
manipulated public attitude into viewing things into their way of thinking. The
pictures and words on the posters were meticulously chosen and used deliberately
to influence the way one thinks. The strategies utilized in the posters appealed to
emotions rather than logical reasoning and always had motivational factors to
influence. Nazi ideology was portrayed in posters as part of Hitler s plan to
reshape German minds into his way of thinking. For example, in poster #2 a
smiling, good looking, well groomed German student is depicted holding a Nazi
flag. The young student is regarded in the community because of his education.
The poster emphasizes that he is proud to serve Nazi Germany in hopes of
influencing other young people to serve in the military. His proud stance suggests
that he feels privileged to be carrying a swastika which is the emblem of the
German Nazi Party. The student appears to embrace becoming a Nazi by creating a
sense of pride in the poster in an effort... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We follow you, leader. The poster emphasizes and tries to persuade the public
opinion that Hitler was the epitome of what a supreme leader is. The poster
portrays an oversized picture of Hitler positioned to appear to look like a strong
minded leader. The community is looking up at him with raised hands in an
approving and adulating manner. The poster attempts to influence people how they
should feel about Hitler by persuading them to believe he is the ultimate leader. His
stance with the clenched fist indicates that he is ready to rule outwardly and take
care of the people. The poster tries to show the people if they stand behind Hitler
and follow his lead good things will happen. The propaganda message symbolizes a
forced belief and was intended to deceive the people even though it gained more
Piaget Cognitive Theory
Piaget s Theory used in Mathematics Today Piaget took an interest in children s
cognitive development and came up with his theory of Cognitive Development; the
Cognitive Development theory consists of the four stages: Sensorimotor,
Preoperational, Concrete Operational, and Formal Operational (Ghazi Ullah, 2016,
pg. 1). Jean Piagets cognitive theory has a wide array of effects on children s learning
in mathematics that are applicable to teaching today. Teachers today use different
strategies and teaching methods based on what stage children are in. I will discuss
each of the stages and how teachers use them in math today. The first stage is the
sensorimotor stage, which takes place between the age of zero to two, and is where
children understand perception and awareness of the environment through physical
actions and the manipulation of objects (Ghazi Ullah, 2016, pg. 1). In the
sensorimotor stage, the most important thing to understand is the idea of object
permanence and understanding that even when the child cannot see the object they
are still able to find it. Also, in this stage they begin to associate numbers with objects
and they understand counting. In order to enhance a child s math basis teachers are
giving activities that include counting. Asking question like Who has more? and Are
there enough? , start the foundation for young children to not only understand these
things in the classroom but even more so in the real world. Another way teachers

Andy s Gift Essay
Andy s Gift
No matter who you are, the world won t stop existing if you disappear. Your
beloved ones will just learn to live without you. Andy s Gift , written by Michel
Faber in 2001, tells a story about how hard it can be to return to normality, when
you ve been cut off from the outside world for so long. The world is constantly
changing and if you re not there, it s just too bad, the lives of everyone else s will
continue. That is what happens for the protagonist Andrew. Occasionally he d peek
out at the world, and for his peek hole he d use the shrieking idiot the nursing staff
called Andy. (p. 1, l.3 4)
For 5 years, Andrew has been trapped in the body of a shrieking idiot called Andy.
Finally, a miracle happens and he breaks free. He gets to be Andrew again, but there
s a problem. His wife has changed, she is no longer the woman he married, his oldest
son doesn t seem excited about his return and his two youngest kids think the
madman Andy, is better at howling.
In the beginning, the story takes place at a nursing home. Andrew wakes up in an
institutional pyjama and is greeted by an old man, who s sitting in the bed right next
to him.
When Andrew answers back, it is to the old man s surprise. Ha! Good for you, Andy
boy! said his neighbour, as if impressed. (p. 1, l. 11) The nurse who s arriving next

Andrew doesn t seem much excited about returning back home. ...But he found
that her feelings were of no interest to him. (p. 4, l. 102) He s no longer interested
in his wife s feelings, a person who meant a lot to him before. His love for his
family has slowly been fading away. A child s painting, rather tattered and signed
Robert, was almost hidden behind the bedhead. (p. 1, l. 15 16) Robert s, his oldest
son, painting symbolizes his children, his family and how they ve been forgotten,

Online Vs. Traditional Learning
Online Versus Traditional Learning
Today s generation relies so much on technology that it has now been incorporated
into the schools curriculum. What we once knew and have learned by using school
books, is now being taught strictly electronic communication. Although the online
environment learning can be utilized to enhance classroom lessons, doesn t mean it
should come a main source of teaching. Schools around the nation has remove the use
of textbooks and worksheet from the classroom it is a known fact that all learners don
t comprehend through the same techniques and or methods. Some students need the
traditional method or individual attention. Issues learning through Web based,
Distance and Blended learning can be good or bad, but even worse becoming a
primary tool in classroom. Electronic communication suppose help alter and increase
the learners way of thinking but what about the ones who are less mature, motivated
and discipline, they will need face to face teaching. Teachers can explain the
information in a way the learner can related to what being taught. Teachers add
experiences, personality, compassion that s something an electronic device can t do it
doesn t feel or understand that the learner is not catching on it only does what is
program inside its system to do. Distractions is another issue, it s proven that multi
tasking is regular for students and that many students are found switching between
competing activities highly distracting according to,
Informative Speech On Periodontal Disease
Doggy dental care is important. While there are benefits to keeping up with your
dog s oral health like fresher kisses, proper oral care can even save your pup s life.
Let s talk about Periodontal Disease. By the age of three, most dogs have some
signs of periodontal disease, also known as Gum Disease. If Periodontal Disease is
not treated effectively, it can cause problems as severe and internal organ damage
and death. The good news is that periodontal disease is preventable with a good
oral health system in place. Regular brushing is the only safe and effective way to
prevent gum disease, but there are a lot of myths out there that will have you believe
otherwise. Below are 5 myths we hear all the time about dog oral health:... Show

Think of them as children, we know you probably already do. Children learn early
on how to brush their teeth so that when they re older, they ll continue the routine
and continue to have healthy teeth. Even though the teeth fall out, it s important to
massage and clean the gums so that the new teeth will come into an already
healthy environment. According to the Milford Animal Clinic, Brushing your
puppy s teeth between the ages of eight and sixteen weeks is critical and it will
make the job easier when he is an adult. By teaching a dog what brushing is like, no
matter what the method, and how often it s done, puppies will get used to the idea
and more easily accept this part of their daily routine. Dogs Don t Have to Brush
Every Day This myth may just be the biggest offender on our list. How many times
a day do you brush your teeth? We re hoping it s at least twice a day. Why should
your dog be any different? Brushing is the best way to scrub away plaque and tartar
from all or most of your dog s teeth, reaching places hard bones and treats
All The Light We Cannot See Love
Love is a powerful tool. It can be used for good, and it can be used for evil. As we
see in Anthony Doerr s novel, All the Light We Cannot See, in all times; doubt, pain,
triumph, anger, or even happiness, we must always have love.
To begin, we must always have love because it gives us courage. We see this when
some Russian men enter the house containing the main character s sister, Jutta,
three other girls, and their mother figure, Frau Elena. Frau Elena says, Stay calm
and they won t shoot. I ll make sure to go first. After that they ll be gentler (Doerr
490). Frau Elena knew the Russians were there, and they all knew they were going to
get raped, yet she risks her life for these girls. This shows her deep love and
connection, but also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We see this with Werner s sister, Jutta, who is angry that Werner wants to leave to
go to the Nazi School of Schulpforta. When she objects to this, he says what he
believed to be correct; He rehearses in his head the argument he will present to his
sister. Pflicht. It means duty. Obligation. Every german fulfilling his function
(Doerr 124). Werner truly believed he was doing the right thing by going to Nazi
School; that this was the best way to make money, avoid the mines, and fulfill his
duty. It may have seemed selfish to Jutta at the time, but in his heart, he truly did
leave out of love. The people we love don t always understand our actions, but love
keeps us on the track of morality. More importantly however, we see Werner act out
of love in a much more significant way when he finds Marie Laure s radio, but
leaves her alone; ...the antenna is all but invisible. He hears Jutta s voice; I bet he
does these broadcasts from a huge mansion, big as this whole colony [...] He walks
fast to the hotel, head down, hands in his pockets (Doerr 409). Werner s job is to
track people with radios and kill them. He even finds Marie Laure s radio antenna,
however the second he sees it, he thinks of Jutta and all the love he has for his sister.
These were the first broadcasts they d listen to as kids, and he immediately changed
his mind. Werner could have easily killed her, but he knew that was wrong. His

The Influence of Russian Communism on Women
Ukrainian, Elena Grigorievna Ponomarenko and Russian Vera Ivanovna Malakhova
shared one inevitable thing in common and that was the USSR, formally known as
the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. This spread of communism would take a
place in these women s lives affecting their ideology. Elena allowed communismto be
the foundation of her life, while Vera used to advance in the education system and
become a physician. Despite the views these women had on communism,
communism helped both Elena and Vera achieve their social status as well as
privileges. Elena Grigorievna Ponomarenko grew up the typical Ukrainian lifestyle,
fighting to make ends meet daily with the poverty crisis. Elena strived for self
discipline during the instability of the USSR. Despite the dispossession of the USSR,
she kept faith in communism and conformed in the era s communist practices by
having an interest in forming relations with the Pioneers, Komsomol s and then later
to the communist party. Communism had a plethora benefits that tailored her idea
lifestyle, but one stood out more than others and that was the sense of strict
discipline. These communist groups fulfilled her appetite for, iron discipline Elena
based her life upon (Vanderbeck134). As a member of the Komsomol, Elena
mentioned the consequences of insubordination which never the less led to
immediate expulsion of her membership with the communist community. Elena s
strong passion and hunger for discipline lead her higher in

about 300,000 men and women (Harris 4). Many veterans have reintegration issues.
Veterans can t relate to their surroundings when they return home (McPhee).

focuses on what the person can actually control (Schultz 25,27). EAP meets several

Mystery Of Matter Ethics
In this essay, I will analyze the ethical and moral decisions of the scientists from
the Mystery of Matter video series on The Public Broadcasting Network. Before I
begin, I will clarify the differences between ethics and morality. Morality is a person
s own values, and ethics are the widely accepted values of a culture. Ethicsencourage
scientists to make the right decisions through criminal law, peer pressure, and the
respect of professional societies. For example, the ghastly, human experiments of
Josef Mengele on twins at Auschwitz were unethical. The ethics of the party in power
established by Adolf Hitlerin Germany, the Nazis, permitted these experiments. The
ethics of the country s inner circle were flawed. There were no criminal... Show more

In January of 1939, two German scientists split a Uranium atom. This discovery,
however, came at a time of increased tension in the world. Nazi Germany had invaded
Poland that same September, and the German project to develop an atomic bomb
started shortly afterward. By December, Werner Heisenberg, a German scientist,
had discovered, through his calculations, that nuclear fission reaction chains would
be possible, and the uncontrolled energy released by them could be many times
more powerful than any conventional explosive. It became the fear of refugee
scientists from Germany that the Nazis would be the first to develop this bomb,
and these fears led to the creation of the Manhattan Project. Science became
extremely important to the military at this time. Glenn Seaborg and the other
scientists had to make the decision whether or not to develop this bomb which
could snuff out so many lives and obliterate whole cities. The new science of the
atomic bomb would change everything about how wars were fought. The Nazis, if
they built the bomb first, would certainly win the war, and thousands of American
lives would be lost. In the end, it came down to whether or not developing a
weapon that would potentially take away lives to save lives was ethical. Glenn
Seaborg s discovery of new elements that could be manufactured to create an atomic
bomb and his participation in the Manhattan Project could be considered ethical,
because the development of the bomb saved lives that could have been lost had the
U.S. invaded Japan, an axis power in World War II that refused to surrender. As
quoted by Robert Oppenheimer, Now, I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds .

The Iron Lady. One of the most stand out monuments in the world, and one of the
most beautiful. It shares its nickname with Margaret Thatcher, a prime minister of
England. Built by Gustave Eiffel in 1889 as an entrance to the World Fair, La Tour
Eiffel would stand for twenty years before being torn down. However, the tower
would later be repurposed as a radio antenna in 1909 for World War I, and still
stands as a radio antenna to this day, where more than one hundred antennae beam
radio and television broadcasts around the world. The Eiffel Toweris one of the most
recognized, and most paid for visited monument in the world. However, when it was
built, there were multiple protests against it. Most Parisians fear that La Tour Eiffel
was structurally unsound or that it was an eyesore that would out shadow other
famous buildings in Paris, like Notre Dame and the Louvre. Novelist Guy de
Maupassant allegedly hated the Eiffel Tower so much he ate lunch in the restaurant
at the base of the tower every day because it was the only vantage point from which
(I) could completely avoid glimpsing its looming silhouette. Eiffel later stated that
the tour was on the Champs de Mars and far enough away from all those other
monuments and it would not risk overwhelming them. Edouard Lockroy wrote a
letter of support about the tower, and explained how all the protesting was irrelevant
because the project had been decided upon months before and construction for it was
already underway. When

All that I m after is a life full of laughter (Life After You Daughtry). Everyone has

company he/she wants to reach. Usually, the company has a standard
IVR(interactive voice response) in place and the consumers are provided with a toll
free number on the website. This is step is inevitable as one needs to reach the
company s customer service line in order to lodge his/her complaint.
. Call the customer service number
A toll free number can be obtained by the consumer via the company s website. The
toll free number would be represented as 1 888 XXX XXXX. The customer makes a
call to the number in order to find a solution to the problem.
. Follow instructions on IVR
In this step is where the problem begins, the IVR s are usually not customer friendly
and the menu list are very vast and it requires a great deal of patience from the
customers side but, you need to go through multiple lists and find a desired option
and click the respective extension.
Negative Effects Of Imperialism
It had all started with the French attempt to convert the native Muslims and Jews.
This program was a civilizing mission attempting to convert the native religions to
Christianity. This program that they had followed was based off of the three C s ,
which are civilization, Christianity, commerce . The wars that were caused by this
left deep scars throughout Algeria. Muslim status called for greater political
autonomy and eventual independence from France, but it wasn t until Nov, 1 1954
when Algerians showed their first significant act of rebellion. Throughout this time
nearly two million Muslims were made into refugees or forcibly relocated to distant
lands. The first effect of imperialism brought many effects to Algeria both positive
and negative. a few positive effects that it had brought were roads, canals, and
railways as well as new crops cultivating. The negative effects that it had brought
were vicious wars, political uncertainty and an unsteady economy. This later brought
racial barriers and even social distractions to the country. It wasn t until after six
million of the six point five million out Algerians voted for... Show more content on

Another impact that had happened because of imperialism is that the men became
defiant due to the French violating their tradition. The french had done all of this
because they had no care for anything but power and gaining as much land as they
had lost in past wars (Synad 211). French impacted Algeria in several ways one of
those ways being that in order to be an Algerian citizen with french rights, algerians
had to give up their muslim identity. This was not only the most disrespectful thing
the french could have done but it had finally pushed the Algerians passed the edge.
Another horrific thing they attempted to do was to change the education so they
would have been learning french

Introduction
The constituting treaties of the European Union since the Rome treaty formulated in
1957 have housed the competition policy of the European Union (Wallace, 2015).
The competition policy since that time have a strong basis of the treaties which make
the region interconnected by the competition policies. There are several reasons as to
why the competition policy instruments were developed in the EU. An internal
market in the European region has been boosted by the policies as well as the
economic growth in that region. According to Weatherill, the European competition
policy is made up of three major elements which make the policy better. It is
composed of the competition laws found in the treaties, a guideline in the supervision
of the competitive authorities and laws found in the European Union courts
(Weatherill, 2013). All these work together to make sure that the competition policy
in the European Union are well established. This paper will investigate the reasons as
to why the European Union formulated its own competition policy instruments which
are different from the ones used by the other countries. Although the competitions
policies are different, the aim of those laws are the same as those carried out in other
nations outside the European Union.

A Poem Comparison of Donne s Anniversary and Jennings ...
Read the two poems carefully, bearing in mind that they were written at different
times by different writers and are open to different interpretations. Write a comparison
of these two poems.
In your answer you should consider the ways in which Donne and Jennings use form,
structure and language to present their thoughts and ideas. You should make relevant
references to your wider reading in the poetry of love (40 marks).
John Donne s The Anniversary is all about the love the theoretical narrator and his
object of love share. A year has passed, and everything has grown older, drawing
closer to their end. In contrast, the one ageless thing is the unchanging love the poet
shares with his lover. Although their bodies will be in separate... Show more content

I have no will to weep or sing...No least desire to pray or curse : These two lines
expresses how the author did not have any hope less and was feeling depressed.
Furthermore, Emily Dickinson s poem What If I Say , again the tone is extremely
hopeless; her love has died but yesterday and without him dungeons, nor guns do
scare her; without him there is nothing left for her. Donne, however, is hopeful that
they will have many years together, but even if they don t, the second of

death be no divorce ). Jennings finds some comfort in her parent s spiritual bond in
the final stanza ( strangely close together , even if it is as weak as a thread . She
feels great tenderness for the parents who once passionately loved each other and
her, the feather and thread images are gentle and soft, suggesting her love for her
parents is also this way.
The repetition of the word strangely in the final stanza of Jennings poem could
mean one of two things: either that she finds it strange that they do not love one
another in the same way anymore or on the other hand, it could simply be
emphasising that her parents are estranged from one another. There is a sad and
empty atmosphere or mood created through the poem. The sense of coming death
and fading passion creates a chilling mood; this contrasts with Donne s poem in
which the lovers are not fearful of death because of their

Analysis Of 2001 A Space Odyssey
In 1968, reputable director/producer Stanley Kubrick revolutionized the art of film
with his Arthur C. Clark collaboration, 2001: A Space Odyssey. The MGM film is
known for it s striking imagery mostly because, upon an audience member s first
viewing, it is the only thing that actually makes sense. After the second or third
viewing, though, one realizes that the story is something larger than life. Or at least it
is larger than the humanrace. 2001 tells the story of evolution and the future that
humans might eventually encounter. The plot of 2001: A Space Odysseyis complex.
The basic plot takes place after the human race finds a mysterious monolith buried
on the moon. A crew of astronauts, the main of which are Dr. Dave Bowman,
played by Keir Dullea, and Dr. Frank Poole, played by Gary Lockwood, set out on
a mission to the outer moons of Jupiter. With them is the artificial intelligence
computer, H.A.L. 9000, which controls all of the functions of the ship, including
the life support systems holding part of the still hibernating crew. After a series of
events that lead Dr. Bowman and Dr. Poole to believe Hal is malfunctioning,
relations between human and computer become hostile. The function of this film is
not to portray computers as evil beings. 2001 serves as a science fiction thought
piece on what the next step of evolution might be. The film starts by showing the
dawn of man four million years ago. The actions of the apes are primal. They are
mostly herbivores
Sexuality In Narratives Of The Life Of Frederick Douglass
Shackled down with chains, the male slaves at Sweet Home had no choice but to
say yes when asked if they wanted breakfast. The here you go the masters declared
before demanding fellatio be performed captures the cruel, sadistic nature of the
dialogue, and the nature in which sexual aggression was used as means of
domination in the slaveholder to slave relationship in the slave narrative(Morrison
127). In the Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, Douglass was the
offspring of a similar instance of forced sexual encounters between slaveholder and
slave when he acknowledges my father was a white man, (Douglass 12). Through
acts of sexual aggression in slave narratives, the ability for slaves to form individual
sexual identities is diminished. Sexuality in Beloved establishes a view of sex for
former slaves that hinders the creation of a personal identity beyond slavery, and
through this use of sexuality, even following physical freedom, a former slave s
identity is still very much tied to their past enslavement. An instance of sexuality
in Narratives of the Life of Frederick Douglass occurs early on in the narrative, and
helps establish critical framework for how sexuality can be viewed in Beloved.
Before describing the whipping of Aunt Hester, Douglass says Aunt Hester had not
only disobeyed his orders in going out, but had been found in company with Lloyd s
Ned; which circumstance, I found, from what he said while whipping her, was the
chief offence, (Douglass
Reasons For Attending College For College
Why schools? There are many of reasons to attending college. For me, my
motivation for attending college is to get A in all my classes and to get higher

There is a wisdom some of wises say it. The wisdom is the creativity does not come
unless if there is an experience and the knowledge. Experience comes from stations
and the life battles. Knowledge comes from schools, colleges and universities. It
comes from education. My motivation is to be creativity man ,and to be successful
man. To be honest, my motivation comes from both, internal and external. For
internal, I feel there is something inside inside my self moving to scussful way.
Also, there is something inside my brain told me that I should to thinking right wa. I
should to think about creativity. On anther hand, for external offcourse my parents

so important for me. They are leading me to do right things. When I am loss,

As You Like It and Edward Scissorhands Essay
Inherent within humanity is the need to belong, in which an individual must accept
one another in order to achieve a greater sense of connectedness and identity. This
is firstly evident in Shakespeare s As You Like It whereby the ideas of love are
used to reveal how relationships are fundamental to one s sense of belonging. Act 1
Scene 3 explores belonging and not belonging through loveand nature as it
establishes the plot at the mark of separation from court and country by Rosalind
and Celia breaking the sense of belonging to place. Celia and Rosalind convey a
strong bond evident in Celia s plea to her father, Duke Frederick, to keep Rosalind at
court rather than banishing her to the Forest of Arden. Conventions of love are evident

These settings are symbolic of the lack of belonging which is felt when the natural
order is destroyed and baser natural instincts conquer positive feelings. Now go we in

giving the scene a positive ending through a tone of contentment that arises from a
greater sense of belonging and connection between individuals.
Similarly, the film by Tim Burton, Edward Scissorhandsportrays deep ideas about
belonging whereby notions of acceptance and identity are illustrated through the use
of filming techniques. Love and acceptance are challenged when Peg Boggs, the
Avon representative rescues Edward from the mansion on top of the hill where he
has spent his entirety. Upon Peg entering, a wide shot shows the sun shining into
the mansion symbolising how the outside world has forever shone through but
never been explored. The fear and disappointment of being judged for the hands
that his inventor was never able to give him as he never woke up has left him in
solidarity disconnected from society. A close up shot shows a collection of various

Old Marble Floor Essay
How To Remove Scratches And Restore The Luster In Your Old Marble Floors
If you have an older home with marble floors you plan to renovate, you may
wonder if the house needs new floors or if the marble can be saved. Before you tear
out the marble floors, you should have a contractor look at them to see if they can
be restored. It s often possible to bring stained, scratched, and dull floors back to
their original beauty. Here s how the process works.
Grinding Removes Imperfections
After the floor is cleaned, the surface is smoothed out and leveled with a grinder.
This removes scratches and uneven edges along seams. Grinding removes the top
layer of the marble so it gets rid of all surface imperfections including stains. It also
gets rid of dullness and it s the first step to restoring shine to the surface.
Polishing Restores Shine
Once the surface is free from stains and scratches, it s time to focus on restoring the
shine and luster of the marble. This is done with a diamond marble polishing tool.
This process also removes the top layer of the marble, but the diamonds used are
very fine so the result is a very smooth and shiny surface when complete. The
process from grinding to polishing buffs the marble with finer grit in each step to
achieve different results. Coarse grit removes deep scratches and fine grit enhances ...

Theories That Support Innovativeness Of Manufacturing...
2.1 Introduction
This chapter seeks to highlight the relevant theories that support innovativeness of
manufacturing firms and an empirical review of factors that lead to a firms
innovativeness. At the end of the chapter a theoretical framework is explained
followed by a brief section of a review of the research philosophies.
2.2 Theoretical Review
There are various theories that are used in the field of operations management. In this
section the knowledge based view and the resource based theory are briefly examined.
2.2.1 The Knowledge Based View (KBV)
Knowledge based view (KBV) argues that knowledge, explicit information and tacit
know how (Kogut and Zander, 1992), is an intangible strategic resource and firms can
gain competitive advantages through combining and creating knowledge. However,
firms not only have to possess internal resources or knowledge to enhance innovation
capability, but also need to establish linkages with their partners in the network to
leverage on external resources and knowledge (Zhang et al., 2010), which could be
conceptualized as absorptive capacity. Absorptive capacity is constituted by a set of
organizational routines and processes that enable the firm to explore, transform, and
exploit knowledge from different sources (Volberda et al., 2010). For manufacturing
firms, new knowledge often comes from external sources such as suppliers or
customers (Zhiqiang et al., 2016).
2.2.2 Resource Based View (RBV) Theory
This theory views a firm as

bodies were identified as Nicole Brown Simpson, OJ ex wife and Ronald

contacted the next morning and agreed he would catch the next flight back to Los

police tape around his front gate. Officers asked OJ to come with them to the
Parker Center were they could ask him a series of questions. The officers failed to
get any knowledge regarding the murder. Soon the LAPD felt like they had
obtained enough evidence on the murders and obtained a warrant on OJ. Simpson
s attorney, Robert Shapiro worked a deal with the police department and agreed
OJ would turn himself in on 10 am on June 17. Simpson fail to show up at the
agreed time and location. Officers were sent both to Simpson s and Shapiro s
home and there was no answer. OJ was at Robert Kardashian s home with his
defense team, officers contacted Shapiro. This is when Shapiro discovered OJ had
gone missing with his long time teammate and friend Allen Cowlings (AC) in a
White Ford Bronco. The news reported on Simpson gone missing an a motorist
called in, saying they had seen the White Bronco. Officers had found OJ on the run,
the chase ended peacefully when OJ returned to his home and surrendered. The trial

Dangerous Substances in Fast Food Essay
Society is like bamboo; it is constantly growing and expanding. With this change,
society has an ever constant worry of making the tedious tasks in life, such as
getting food, as swift as it can possibly be. This drive for acquiring food quickly
goes hand in hand with producing it as quickly and efficiently as possible. There
are burgers that have been microwaved and served to people. Next, there are fries
that have been preserved and then fried in oil so they can be acquired quickly. No
one questions how the food is made, or what is put in it; it s just inhaled by the
population meals with a blissful ignorance. They don t truly understand what they are

Acrylamide in food forms from sugars and an amino acid that are naturally present
in food; it does not come from food packaging or the environment, ( Food ). This
chemical can be very harmful when ingested into our bodies. Acrylamide is known
to modulate dopamine in the brain, which in turn leads to decreased...testosterone...
(Rosen 8). In males, this can be very detrimental. Testosterone is one of the leading
hormones in men, and it helps with the process of growth greatly. By consuming
too much acrylamide, a male can hinder his growth both physically and sexually .
Waste water treatment is another area where acrylamide can be found. According
to Dr. Joseph Rosen, acrylamide is part of a coagulant put into waste water to
cleanse it. The problem of fast food not having enough taste has come up over the
course of the last decade. Many restaurants look to find minute, unnoticeable ways to
give their food that extra edge of flavor when compared to their competitors. One
substance that is widely used is Monosodium Glutamate, more commonly known as

make a logical argument to have their hamburgers, as long as you are not a carb

Taking a Look at the Russian-Ukraine Conflict
The conflict stems from the result of the Government s decision to turn down the
European Union proposed association agreement in 2013 and instead Ukraine s
President Viktor Yanukovych accepted fifteen billion dollars in aid and other
economic benefits from Russian President Vladimir Putin. For years Ukrainianshave
yearned for economic reform that would seek to open new trade and economic ties
with Western European countries. President Yanukovych s decision to reject the EU s
proposal ignored the feeling of the majority of Ukrainian citizens and further
solidified the sentiment that their government was strengthening ties with Russiaand
not with the west. President Yanukovych actions spawned unrest among the
Ukrainian people, forcing them to condemn and denounce their corrupt government
and to question their Presidents legitimacy. This pushed an already fractured society
into the streets of Kiev, the capital of Ukraine to protest their disapproval. In
response President Yanukovych ordered riot police and military personnel to move
into cities throughout Ukraine in order to squash any dissent. Clashes between
opposition and the government slowly escalated over a two month period, in
February the death toll for protesters in the city of Kiev rose into the hundreds. On
February 21 members of the opposition overtook the capital and the Presidents
Yanukovych residence, forcing him to flee to Russia to avoid charges by the
opposition of murdering protesters. Russia

Ancient Egyptian Afterlife
The Egyptians believed in a lot of things that would be looked at as craziness
nowadays. They would mummify people, mainly the Pharaohs, when they died.
They strongly believe in the afterlife and would do things to make the people that
died happy in the afterlife. There were many kingdoms in Egypt, but there were also
hardships as well. Egypthas had one of the longest civilizations, going from 3000 BC
to the 4th century AD. The Egyptianslived mainly off of the NileRiver because it was
how they could grow their crops. Egypt rarely had and wars or interruptions, the
people normally lived a quite and peaceful life. There was only one ruler for all the
people in Egypt and that was the Pharaoh. Everyone loved the Pharaoh and believed

Spirituality Essay
Spirituality can have many different definitions, depending on who is asked. It can
be something as simple as looking for a higher meaning to life, or something so
complex that one can base their beliefs, religion and overall life around it. There are
several different ways to express one s spirituality; rituals, songs, dances, stories, and
writings are all common methods of expression. Spirituality can be found in almost
anything. Finding spirituality in something can make someone feel enlightened and

Their spirituality is heavily influenced by nature. David Suzuki may very well be
the most popular scientist in all of Canada. In his book The Sacred Balance, Suzuki
discusses his view that people and the earth are all made of the same things and
therefore we both need the same elements to survive: earth, air, fire and water. For
humans to lead rich lives, Suzuki also adds love and spirit to the list. In the
introduction to The Sacred Balance, Suzuki interviews a Haida Gwaii artist named
Guujaaw about the battle over clear cut logging in his native Queen Charlotte Islands.
Although the logging industry in the islands generated several much needed jobs,
many of the Haida were opposed to it. Guujaaw stated that after the trees were all
gone, his people would be just like everybody else, and they would not be Haida
anymore. The fact that somebody would feel so connected with the trees, to
include them in their identity proves that spirituality can be found in nature. For
Gujarat s people the trees, the birds, the fish, the water, the wind are all parts of the
Haida identity. Their land, and everything on it, means so much to the Haida people
that they would be willing to sacrifice jobs and economy to keep the integrity of
their culture, history, and the land that is all a part of their identity. Joy Williams is

David Thoreau Paradox
Humans have been using the measurement of time to dictate their day since the early
eras of ancient civilizations with sundial then evolving into the mechanical clocks we
use today. For thousands of years with time measurement tools, humans have
depended on a strict schedule to determine what to do to use up the time they have.
In today s modern world, adult humans use their time to contribute to society by
working nine to five jobs and young adults spending their childhood in a classroom.
In Henry David Thoreaus book, Walden; Life in the Woods, Thoreau discusses the
concept of time. In Thoreau s excerpt Economy, he offers the paradox whether
humans live off borrowed time or stolen time from their employers. He explains in a
rhetorical statement that by reading his own book would be robbing your creditors of
an hour, implying that the human civilization has been putting their work in front of
their own self interests in hope of success and money. Although Thoreau wrote the
paradox as a brief commentary for the money driven human civilization, this paradox
acts as a metaphor towards Thoreau s view on the use of time for humanity.
As a child, I ve seen my parents focused the majority of their time and energy at
their work to provide for our family. In 2000, the U.S Department of Labor Bureau

The Legalization Of The Gambling Industry
The gambling industry is growing rapidly in the United States as gambling has
become increasingly more socially acceptable than it has been in the past. Many
state governments, such as Nevada, have encouraged gambling as a key source of
revenue, even more so after the recession we suffered in the late 2000s. Casinohotels,
which account for the majority of industry revenue, have generally become larger in
markets like Las Vegas, many generating annual revenue of about $500 million,
according to the UNLV Center for Gaming Research. (Gambling, 2015) This has
increased the traveling to many of these destinations such as Las Vegas and Atlantic
City in New Jersey. US tourism spending on traveler accommodations, an indicator

Mental problems and human relation problems are also the effects caused by
addiction to gambling individually.
Gamblers usually face the problem of losing the games (losing money), which will
makes them stressed, depressed even brings them mental illness. Under this situation,
they will be emotional and easily irritated even lead to family violence. As described
by the online site www.ehow.com, relationship between the gamblers family will be
disintegrated easily because the connections between parents and children cracked
down. Gamblers abort their parenting responsibilities. Even peers and relatives would
try to avoid borrowings from gamblers. So addition to gambling brings negative
effects to both mental health and family relation.
Addition to gambling brings several problems. Such as increasing illegal activities,
people committing suicide, society become less competitive, mental and human
relation problems.
Opportunities
Since most casino games, such as slots and video poker, are video games that are
computerized. For this reason, the development of new games and formats is easy.
Manufactures, such as Bally s Technologies, introduce many new models each and
every year and often hire video game designers from the video game industry.
However, many of the new games that are released every year are just upgraded
cosmetic variations on already existing games. There are also a few new games being
introduced into the market. Many times, proceeds from
Computer Information System Brief
Abstract In this paper I explain what opportunities Kudler Fine Foods has in terms of
information technology, and describe how the company might benefit from
implementing enterprise wide computer information system.
Computer information system brief
Kudler Fine Foods (KFF) is a local chain of gourmet food stores with annual sales of
more than 10M offering specialized products to targeted customers. The company
has three locations in the San Diego metropolitan area (La Jolla, Del Mar and
Encinitas) and plans to add more stores soon (Kudler Fine Foods, 2008). As a typical
mid size food retailer KFF has following key accounting information system needs:
Inventory management and optimization
Customer and sales management

However, in an effort to leverage the information to create a more intimate
relationship with their customers, the firm is developing a system to track customer
purchase behavior over time. Basically KFF is wasting recourses creating one more
stand alone module that is not integrated in enterprise wide inventory system. It
would be more cost efficient for Kudler to do some customization of inventory
management to obtain information about customer behavior. Company s web site
doesn t provide customers with an opportunity to place online orders. The company
would benefit from installing e commerce software and connecting it to
merchandise database. It would be beneficial for Kudler to run a blog on company s
web site where customers can give a feedback and learn about in store events,
cooking classes, gourmet recipes, etc.
Revenue management POS system in every store provides daily sales report. This
report is a starting point for each store manager to forecast future sales and cash
flows. Sometimes stores have difficulties with cash purchases of large amounts of
fresh locally grown produce, because of not sufficient cash on store s bank account.
If stores were able to have one consolidated bank account it would be easier to
accumulate cash for purchases. The main obstacle to it is an absence of integrated
computer information system
Impact Of Uk Financial Services Act
IMPACT OF UK FINANCIAL SERVICES ACT 2012 ON UK FINANCIAL
REGULATORY REGIME
Introduction
The Financial Services Act of 2012 in the UK came into force in 2013 on 1st April.
This Act has the government reforms on the financial regulatory structure in the UK.
The Act gives the new guidelines on the management of the banking sector and other
supervisory roles in the financial services sector. This Act bestowed the oversight role
to the Bank of England which is therefore expected to be responsible for the
occurrences in the financial system and how the financial institutions manage their
balance sheet risks. This Act also stipulates that three more bodies are to be formed
to assist in managing this sector. These bodies include the Financial Policy
Committee (FPC), Prudential Regulatory Authority (PRA) and Financial Conduct
Authority (FCA). This Act affects significantly the two previous Acts which have
been running the sector. These are the Financial Services and Markets Act of 2000
and the Bank of England Act of 1998. In this paper, the Act is clearly analyzed and
mostly the effects it has on the Financial Regulatory Regime in the UK (Noked
2013). The economy of the UK has been following a laissez faire system since 1979

Arab Uprising Essay
How has the rise of social media technologies affected political stabilities in the
Middle East?
Background of the study
Middle East countries have been faced by a challenge where leaders lock
information. Locking information has resulted to limitation on the flow of
information inside Middle East and to the external world. Out of this challenge,
democracy in the Middle East has been suppressed and citizens left to suffer. Leaders
refuse to listen to the people they rule and dictatorship followed course. This reached
to a situation whereby citizens organize themselves with an objective to protest in
their countries. This has resulted to not less than two dictators being overthrown.

New technologies and ideas have been developing and the benefits of these
developments have been coordinated with the world systems thoroughly. Some
changes that have been taking place such as social media advancement have fully
impacted the way lives and the world operates.
The growth of the social mass media, the new developments of mass communications
that have been welcomed into the world have thoroughly brought about
restructuring the perspectives of human beings especially in the Middle East. The
rise of the mass media; magazines, books, motion pictures, television and
newspapers have affected most aspects of human life especially in the Middle East
countries (Kamlipour 1997). United States media coverage of activities in the
countries of the Middle East has provided the entire world with a very complex
and special informative field such that many scholars from different parts of the
world have been carrying out studies and analysis on the subject (Kamlipour 1997).
Many scholars have specialized in writing books and articles with the aim of
informing people concerning the coups, conflicts, terrorism activities, uprisings and
disasters that have been taking place in the Middle East. Many people have been
able to access information on the wild cultures in the Middle East such that a country
like the United States has been trying its best to help the people of the Middle East

Through the ecological footprint experiment I conducted, I...
Through the ecological footprint experiment I conducted, I realized that if everybody
were to live in this manner, we would be in need of 6.13 earths. This is the amount of
the land s ecosystem habitat that the human race today would require in order to
survive sustainably (Dunn, 2008). The online ecological footprint calculator is a very
innovative and informative application that poses great benefit to the society. The
ecological footprintcalculator calculates the amount of inputs and outputs of an
individual s lifestyle in effect of the natural resources within their region of habitat.
This consequently enables for a self assessment at the individual level, where one can
follow specific measures to reduce their ecological footprint to... Show more content

These measures are inclusive of aspects such as the consumption of a healthy diet,
estimating one s exact consumption requirements for a day, and investing in food
storage for future use measures such as freezing of food amongst others.
The goods and services footprint level was also calculated to be at a high. This
project on my nature of consumption of goods and services within my general day.
It projects that in use of goods and services, my behavior is one that includes a lot
of wastage. The best reversal measures of this would be to practice restrained
sustainable use of goods and services. This includes aspects such as choosing
quality fabric clothes to reduce the rate of my buying and throwing away of old
clothes; and the same projected to other goods and services.
The lowest of my ecological footprint was from my housing footprint. This means
that the nature of my interrelation of housing is sustainable. This can be related to
the fact that I have been living in one house with other members of my family. The
house is medium sized and all rooms are full except one.
The experiment also provided for a projection of my footprints share in the different
biomes. The largest share was with forestland footprint, then pastureland footprint,
followed by marine fisheries footprint, and finally the cropland footprint. These
shared biomes establish the level of effect that my ecological footprint has on the

The Theory Of The Division Of Labor
If I were Smith, I think the theory of the division of labor can still apply to this on
demand economy. With the concept of the independent worker who controls the
product he or she produces, it promotes the division of labor, as workers are
assigned to specialize in different fields so that they might become experts in
making something specific, and then having ample surplus to trade. For instance,
Uber is just an app on smartphone to meet consumers needs without any control
and intervention of their drivers working time. In other words, the worker (the
driver) is the solely one to control their surplus that is the income source from their
driving hours. Moreover, the specialization theory is better known as division of
labor, which broke large jobs into smaller jobs then would assign jobs to workers.
Everything is mostly done by machines contemporary, we still use this idea but in a
different way. It creates an increase in output and occasions technological
specialization, which further increases productivity. For instance, Topcoder broke its
big projects into small sized project and divided them to their freelance developers. It
implies assigning each labor to the job that suits him best. Furthermore, there is an
expansion of the market that brings about the division of labor under this on demand
economy. Price decrease leads to the expansion of market and population growth as
competition formed among companies. For example, Alfred aggregates on demand
companies in
The World And Caution Of The Arab World
As the Ottoman Empire s fall drew closer, the concept of Arab representation and its
manifestation as both a valid state and successor rose as a strong candidate towards
a new rule. However, the Arab world is faced with two distinctive parties that wish to
establish their own set of rules of national identity. The first party belongs to the Pan
Arab movement that wishes to unite all the Arab people from the farthest east to its
west of the Arabic speaking world. Meanwhile, the second party involves advocates
of separate national identities that are distinguishable between each nation instead of
one solid nationalist vision. Both parties contain an argument as to what is the most
beneficial towards the Middle Eastern and North African region. With Pan Arab
leaders, such as the Arab Socialist Ba ath Party s Michel Aflaq and Salah al Din al
Bitar, advocating a strong anti imperialist sentiment in the face of European
involvement in the Arab world and caution of the Ottomans gruesome history
repeating. Additionally, Pan Arab nationalismand socialism was advocated by
prominent leader Gamal Abdel Nasser. On the other hand, prominent state nationalists
that wanted their own independent countries to rise came forward with leaders such
as Lebanese intellectuals like George SamnГ© and Antoun Saadeh, who recognized
the sovereignty of their own Syrian statehood and defied the concept of a more group
inclusive ideal.
To begin with the Pan Arab parties movements and their push towards
French Revolution Research Paper
The French revolution in June 1789, challenge the art and society of France,
especially the artistic style of its time. The major themes of the revolution were on
economic and political inequalities of the ancient regime also the objection against
absolute power of the monarchy in France. This revolution has crushed down the
old structure of society and economics, as well as the ideology of the unity of
baroque and rococo styles. Changes occurred in many aspects specifically in
painting, it was a sense of freedom and the school of French art became less
hierarchical. The French Revolutionalso transformed the artistic style from the

Romanticism was characterized by freedom, imagination, sincerity, spontaneity,
individuality, and inner truth, as opposed to collective morals. Theodore Gericault
was a famous artist at that time and brought new depths of emotion into his art. In

eventually ending up with the realism. These changes reflect the transformation of
the purpose of art. Before the French Revolution, paintings were meant to be
beautiful just to please the aristocratic eye, or as a tribute to religious figures,
however, following the French Revolution, Art became more receptive to all parts of
society, as the political system of France became a

Mountain Man Beer
MOUNTAIN MAN BREWING CASE WRITE UP
Problem Statement:
Mountain Man Brewing (MMB) has been successful with only one beer, Mountain
Man Lager, but consumption has decreased. The decrease in sales for this beer has
caused a decrease in profits, since it is their only product. Mountain Man needs to
consider a change in their positioning strategy to increase sales and profits to keep the
business successful.
Alternative #1: Create, promote and sell Mountain Man Lager Light
Pros: It gives them the use of their name that is already well known and liked in their
current market area. It creates a light beer for the younger target market that drinks
light beers. Cons: It could result in customers switching from regular to light, ... Show

They will face a higher production demand if they do increase sales to more areas.
There will be more importance and expense on distribution due to having to make the
sales with businesses in more distant States and with having to provide them with the
product in a timely and dependable manner.
Recommendation:
Mountain Man Brewing should choose alternative #3 to keep the Mountain Man
Lager beer as their only beer and work to grow it into a larger market by moving
into additional States. Doing so keeps them focused on the strength of their unique
and successful beer, rather than trying to move toward something more common to
follow behind competitors. If they were to pursue the light beer, it may increase
revenue, but not likely to be by that much. Even though the consumption of the light
beers has grown significantly in the younger market segment, it is still most likely
that they will usually choose the common, major brands, such as Bud Light and
Miller Light. They could not get into true competition with the major brands, and
would most likely take away sales from their current product due to customers either
switching to the light beer or losing dedication to their unique offer. Even though it
may leave out the younger consumer market, they can still draw interest from those
individuals as they get older and become more likely to trying specialty beers. They
could also look for ways to market
Summary Of The City Of Pigs
In the book the Republic Socrates creates a city called the City of Pigs. Socrates
refers to it as the true city, the healthy ones. His companions do not like the idea of
this city. They all come up with a city that they all agree with called the City of
Luxury. They believe this city is good and unbiased. I agree with them, I think the
Cityof Luxury is a better city and is overall more unbiased than the City of Pigs.
The City of Pigs is a peaceful city. Everybody gets along and nobody causes trouble.
Every citizen in this city has their own craft. If the people have a lot of skill and
ability to be really good at their craft they will stay with that craft the rest of their
life. There is no money in this society, everybody contributes by using their craft to
serve the community. There is no greed or envy towards one another. The
craftsman s class are made with builders, farmers, cobblers, carpenters, weavers,
shepherds, smiths, and traders. There is however some sort of currency for trading
goods. This is for everybody to be able to cover their needs of housing, clothing and
food. The people in this city are stable and healthy. Nobody overindulged or was
unhealthy in this society. Socrates believe if people ate healthy and felt good about
themselves, people would strive in society and become more valuable to the
community. They believed that a healthy body and healthy mind equals a successful
life. They would feed themselves meals made of barley, flour and wheat, noble

College Essay Personal Statement Examples

  • 1. College Essay Personal Statement Examples Creating an essay on the topic of "College Essay Personal Statement Examples" can be a challenging task. While the subject might seem straightforward, the difficulty lies in the personal nature of the content. Crafting a personal statement involves introspection, self-analysis, and the ability to articulate one's experiences and aspirations effectively. Firstly, finding the right balance between showcasing personal achievements and maintaining humility can be a delicate task. Writers often face the challenge of presenting themselves in a positive light without coming across as arrogant. Moreover, selecting the most impactful experiences to include in the essay requires careful consideration, as there is often a word limit that necessitates prioritization. Another hurdle is the pressure to stand out among a pool of applicants. With countless personal statements submitted each year, creating a unique and memorable essay becomes imperative. This involves avoiding clichГ©s and generic statements while ensuring that the narrative is both engaging and authentic. Additionally, the emotional aspect of sharing personal stories can be emotionally draining. Writers may grapple with the vulnerability of exposing their innermost thoughts and experiences, especially when addressing challenges or setbacks. Striking the right emotional tone is crucial, as an overly sentimental essay may not resonate well with admissions committees. Lastly, the overall structure and coherence of the essay demand meticulous attention. Ensuring a smooth flow from introduction to conclusion, and incorporating relevant personal details seamlessly, adds another layer of complexity. In conclusion, writing an essay on "College Essay Personal Statement Examples" necessitates navigating the fine line between self-promotion and humility, crafting a unique narrative, managing emotional vulnerability, and maintaining structural integrity. It's a challenging process that requires time, introspection, and a keen understanding of what makes a compelling personal statement. • 2. The Controllers Of The Air Controllers Tenerife Air Controllers As mentioned, the air controllers on staff on Sunday, March 27, 1977 was light. This airport was small and on a normal day did not have a lot of air traffic. The airport was not equipped to handle the amount of planes, or the large planes because they were not the appropriate size nor did they have the proper dimensions to allow the large planes to make the appropriate maneuvers. There was no ground radar, there was no ground lights, clouds are moving in and minimizing visibility, and they had to work in their second language. Why did the controllers ever feel it was safe to guide planes they were unfamiliar with completely blind? Why did they not ground the planes when the fog moved in? Controllers are in charge of ensuring the planes safely land and take off by managing the order of takeoffand each plane s direction. If they cannot see them how are they able to effectively do this? Leadership Style Van Zanten s leadership style not only affected the performance of his own team, but impacted his decisions, Pan Am cockpit crew, the controllers and all the passengers on both planes. He did not appear to be focused on people during his decision making at Tenerife, and it is not questionable if there was ever a focus on people. He is very task concerned, and in the case of Tenerife very focused on himself and hitting the Dutch law deadline, which caused him to not focus fully on the task of flying his plane safely off of Tenerife. On a normal day

  • 4. Characteristics Of The Enlightenment The Enlightenment refers to an intellectual movement, which started in England and gain momentum in France in the 17th and 18th century. Ideals of this cultural movement eventually influenced the rest of the world. The enlightenment focused on key principles such as equality, liberty and the right to life; many ideals that modern governments centered on today. The Enlightenment, adopted several types philosophies about how we think and understand what s going on around us rejecting ideals of faith alone, and embracing reasoning and rationalism. In this assignment we were asked to choose from four political documents that are heavily influenced by characteristics of the Enlightenment era: Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen, US Constitution and Bill of Rights, Haiti Constitutions (1801), and Haiti Constitution (1805); although, all of these documents have their own flaws due to views of the period, I feel as though The Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen embodied more sentiments of the period. Consisting of 17 articles, The Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen, was strongly influenced by the theories of the social contract and individualism expressed by Jean Jacques Rousseau as well as the separation of powers theory discussed by Baron de Montesquieu. I also chose The Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen, because this document inspired the making of other politic documents gobally. Social contract is defined as the
  • 5. Powdery Mildew Research Paper Powdery mildew is cause by a biotrophic, obligate fungus Uncinula necator now known as Erysiphe necator (Schw.) Burr (Sall, M. A. 1980). It is the most devastating and widespread disease of grapevine in the world and causes the significant loss to grape yield and quality (Gadoury et al. 2012). This is the major grapevine disease causing significant yield reduction each year in California, which is the top grape producing state in the United States (Gubler et al. 1999). This disease infect all the commercially grown grape species, but the susceptibility differs with cultivars. This disease first produces a chlorotic spot on the upper surface of leaf and the chorotic spot produces whitish gray powdery fungal growth on the upper surface of the leaf and other infected plant parts. The white webby mycelium also produced on subsequent lower surface. This pathogen affects all the green tissue such as leaf, branch, and fruits. The young fruits ... • 6. Vicious Cycle Of Animal Abuse The Earth never wavers in support of its inhabitants no matter how those habitants degrade and destroy it. Humans take from the Earth whatever they want and are mostly neglectful in returning any compensation. This vicious cycle of damage (such as food source and freshwater depletion) will continue if the current rate at which people are being born does not begin to slow down, and if the existing masses do not begin to realize that they have askewed the notions of necessity and indulgence; materialism is not the dominant source of happiness in life. People have become so ignorant of this that they have taught themselves that they deserve a joyful life at the expense of nature. The Earthcannot continue to be stripped of its finite amount... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This has caused farming companies to find faster ways of raising livestock and the animals take the abuse of these techniques. Animals are being kept in tightly confined spaces, crowded together to the point where they cannot move. Chickens are confined to tiny wire cages where they are feed so much that they grow too fast and break their legs under their own weight. Pigs and cows are held in large pens filled so full with their feces that they contract many diseases, and die horrible deaths. Also, many of the people who regulate all of these horrible conditions take their own frustrations out on the animals, or they take pleasure in causing pain onto these defenseless creatures. Even with the need for more meat, animals should not have to suffer the ignorance of humans; humanity should be smart enough to find more humane methods of raising animals. Also, because land is essential for survival, more of it is being taken away from wildlife, ensuring the destruction of many different species. Already, many different species are endangered, but people and companies are not rectifying this. Instead, people have taken away habitat for plants and animals, sucked up their water, and surround them with pollution (Biologicaldiversity.org 1). For example, the florida panther population has plummeted as the state s population has almost doubled The Earth depends on biodiversity to survive, but humans, because of their unfaltering desire for luxury, are setting themselves up for destruction. However, it is not just the elimination of land that is causing this, but also overfishing, and overhunting. The bluefish tuna has been severely overfished to the point where one, single fish sold for $396,000 (biologicaldiversity.org). Fisheries have to have a catch reduction of 20 50 percent is needed to make global fisheries sustainable but it is not

  • 8. Nazi Propaganda Poster Analysis The intended goals of the influential posters were to influence public opinion whether it be for or against a precise political agenda. These propaganda posters manipulated public attitude into viewing things into their way of thinking. The pictures and words on the posters were meticulously chosen and used deliberately to influence the way one thinks. The strategies utilized in the posters appealed to emotions rather than logical reasoning and always had motivational factors to influence. Nazi ideology was portrayed in posters as part of Hitler s plan to reshape German minds into his way of thinking. For example, in poster #2 a smiling, good looking, well groomed German student is depicted holding a Nazi flag. The young student is regarded in the community because of his education. The poster emphasizes that he is proud to serve Nazi Germany in hopes of influencing other young people to serve in the military. • 9. Piaget Cognitive Theory Piaget s Theory used in Mathematics Today Piaget took an interest in children s cognitive development and came up with his theory of Cognitive Development; the Cognitive Development theory consists of the four stages: Sensorimotor, Preoperational, Concrete Operational, and Formal Operational (Ghazi Ullah, 2016, pg. 1). Jean Piagets cognitive theory has a wide array of effects on children s learning in mathematics that are applicable to teaching today. Teachers today use different strategies and teaching methods based on what stage children are in. I will discuss each of the stages and how teachers use them in math today. The first stage is the sensorimotor stage, which takes place between the age of zero to two, and is where children understand perception and awareness of the environment through physical actions and the manipulation of objects (Ghazi Ullah, 2016, pg. 1). In the sensorimotor stage, the most important thing to understand is the idea of object permanence and understanding that even when the child cannot see the object they are still able to find it. Also, in this stage they begin to associate numbers with objects and they understand counting. In order to enhance a child s math basis teachers are giving activities that include counting. Asking question like Who has more? and Are there enough? , start the foundation for young children to not only understand these things in the classroom but even more so in the real world. Another way teachers enhance

What we once knew and have learned by using school books, is now being taught strictly electronic communication. Although the online environment learning can be utilized to enhance classroom lessons, doesn t mean it should come a main source of teaching. Schools around the nation has remove the use of textbooks and worksheet from the classroom it is a known fact that all learners don t comprehend through the same techniques and or methods. Some students need the traditional method or individual attention. Electronic communication suppose help alter and increase the learners way of thinking but what about the ones who are less mature, motivated and discipline, they will need face to face teaching. • 12. Informative Speech On Periodontal Disease Doggy dental care is important. While there are benefits to keeping up with your dog s oral health like fresher kisses, proper oral care can even save your pup s life. Let s talk about Periodontal Disease. By the age of three, most dogs have some signs of periodontal disease, also known as Gum Disease. If Periodontal Disease is not treated effectively, it can cause problems as severe and internal organ damage and death. The good news is that periodontal disease is preventable with a good oral health system in place. Regular brushing is the only safe and effective way to prevent gum disease, but there are a lot of myths out there that will have you believe otherwise. Below are 5 myths we hear all the time about dog oral health:... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Think of them as children, we know you probably already do. Children learn early on how to brush their teeth so that when they re older, they ll continue the routine and continue to have healthy teeth. Even though the teeth fall out, it s important to massage and clean the gums so that the new teeth will come into an already healthy environment. According to the Milford Animal Clinic, Brushing your puppy s teeth between the ages of eight and sixteen weeks is critical and it will make the job easier when he is an adult. By teaching a dog what brushing is like, no matter what the method, and how often it s done, puppies will get used to the idea and more easily accept this part of their daily routine. Dogs Don t Have to Brush Every Day This myth may just be the biggest offender on our list. How many times a day do you brush your teeth? We re hoping it s at least twice a day. Why should your dog be any different? Brushing is the best way to scrub away plaque and tartar from all or most of your dog s teeth, reaching places hard bones and treats
  • 13. All The Light We Cannot See Love Love is a powerful tool. It can be used for good, and it can be used for evil. As we see in Anthony Doerr s novel, All the Light We Cannot See, in all times; doubt, pain, triumph, anger, or even happiness, we must always have love. To begin, we must always have love because it gives us courage. We see this when some Russian men enter the house containing the main character s sister, Jutta, three other girls, and their mother figure, Frau Elena. Frau Elena says, Stay calm and they won t shoot. I ll make sure to go first. After that they ll be gentler (Doerr 490). Every german fulfilling his function (Doerr 124). Werner truly believed he was doing the right thing by going to Nazi School; that this was the best way to make money, avoid the mines, and fulfill his duty. It may have seemed selfish to Jutta at the time, but in his heart, he truly did leave out of love. The people we love don t always understand our actions, but love keeps us on the track of morality. More importantly however, we see Werner act out of love in a much more significant way when he finds Marie Laure s radio, but leaves her alone; ...the antenna is all but invisible. He hears Jutta s voice; I bet he does these broadcasts from a huge mansion, big as this whole colony [...] He walks fast to the hotel, head down, hands in his pockets (Doerr 409). Werner s job is to track people with radios and kill them. He even finds Marie Laure s radio antenna, however the second he sees it, he thinks of Jutta and all the love he has for his sister. These were the first broadcasts they d listen to as kids, and he immediately changed his mind. Werner could have easily killed her, but he knew that was wrong. His thoughts

The Influence of Russian Communism on Women Ukrainian, Elena Grigorievna Ponomarenko and Russian Vera Ivanovna Malakhova shared one inevitable thing in common and that was the USSR, formally known as the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. This spread of communism would take a place in these women s lives affecting their ideology. Elena allowed communismto be the foundation of her life, while Vera used to advance in the education system and become a physician. Despite the views these women had on communism, communism helped both Elena and Vera achieve their social status as well as privileges. Elena Grigorievna Ponomarenko grew up the typical Ukrainian lifestyle, fighting to make ends meet daily with the poverty crisis. Elena strived for self discipline during the instability of the USSR. Despite the dispossession of the USSR, she kept faith in communism and conformed in the era s communist practices by having an interest in forming relations with the Pioneers, Komsomol s and then later to the communist party. Communism had a plethora benefits that tailored her idea lifestyle, but one stood out more than others and that was the sense of strict discipline. These communist groups fulfilled her appetite for, iron discipline Elena based her life upon (Vanderbeck134). As a member of the Komsomol, Elena mentioned the consequences of insubordination which never the less led to immediate expulsion of her membership with the communist community. Before I begin, I will clarify the differences between ethics and morality. Morality is a person s own values, and ethics are the widely accepted values of a culture. Ethicsencourage scientists to make the right decisions through criminal law, peer pressure, and the respect of professional societies. For example, the ghastly, human experiments of Josef Mengele on twins at Auschwitz were unethical. The ethics of the party in power established by Adolf Hitlerin Germany, the Nazis, permitted these experiments. The ethics of the country s inner circle were flawed. There were no criminal... Nazi Germany had invaded Poland that same September, and the German project to develop an atomic bomb started shortly afterward. By December, Werner Heisenberg, a German scientist, had discovered, through his calculations, that nuclear fission reaction chains would be possible, and the uncontrolled energy released by them could be many times more powerful than any conventional explosive. It became the fear of refugee scientists from Germany that the Nazis would be the first to develop this bomb, and these fears led to the creation of the Manhattan Project. Science became extremely important to the military at this time. Glenn Seaborg and the other scientists had to make the decision whether or not to develop this bomb which could snuff out so many lives and obliterate whole cities. The new science of the atomic bomb would change everything about how wars were fought. The Nazis, if they built the bomb first, would certainly win the war, and thousands of American lives would be lost. In the end, it came down to whether or not developing a weapon that would potentially take away lives to save lives was ethical. Glenn Seaborg s discovery of new elements that could be manufactured to create an atomic bomb and his participation in the Manhattan Project could be considered ethical, because the development of the bomb saved lives that could have been lost had the U.S. invaded Japan, an axis power in World War II that refused to surrender. However, the tower would later be repurposed as a radio antenna in 1909 for World War I, and still stands as a radio antenna to this day, where more than one hundred antennae beam radio and television broadcasts around the world. The Eiffel Toweris one of the most recognized, and most paid for visited monument in the world. However, when it was built, there were multiple protests against it. Most Parisians fear that La Tour Eiffel was structurally unsound or that it was an eyesore that would out shadow other famous buildings in Paris, like Notre Dame and the Louvre. Novelist Guy de Maupassant allegedly hated the Eiffel Tower so much he ate lunch in the restaurant at the base of the tower every day because it was the only vantage point from which (I) could completely avoid glimpsing its looming silhouette. Eiffel later stated that the tour was on the Champs de Mars and far enough away from all those other monuments and it would not risk overwhelming them. Edouard Lockroy wrote a letter of support about the tower, and explained how all the protesting was irrelevant because the project had been decided upon months before and construction for it was already underway. The competition policy since that time have a strong basis of the treaties which make the region interconnected by the competition policies. There are several reasons as to why the competition policy instruments were developed in the EU. An internal market in the European region has been boosted by the policies as well as the economic growth in that region. According to Weatherill, the European competition policy is made up of three major elements which make the policy better. It is composed of the competition laws found in the treaties, a guideline in the supervision of the competitive authorities and laws found in the European Union courts (Weatherill, 2013). All these work together to make sure that the competition policy in the European Union are well established. This paper will investigate the reasons as to why the European Union formulated its own competition policy instruments which are different from the ones used by the other countries. Although the competitions policies are different, the aim of those laws are the same as those carried out in other nations outside the European Union. The MGM film is known for it s striking imagery mostly because, upon an audience member s first viewing, it is the only thing that actually makes sense. After the second or third viewing, though, one realizes that the story is something larger than life. Or at least it is larger than the humanrace. 2001 tells the story of evolution and the future that humans might eventually encounter. The plot of 2001: A Space Odysseyis complex. The basic plot takes place after the human race finds a mysterious monolith buried on the moon. A crew of astronauts, the main of which are Dr. Dave Bowman, played by Keir Dullea, and Dr. Frank Poole, played by Gary Lockwood, set out on a mission to the outer moons of Jupiter. With them is the artificial intelligence computer, H.A.L. 9000, which controls all of the functions of the ship, including the life support systems holding part of the still hibernating crew. After a series of events that lead Dr. Bowman and Dr. Poole to believe Hal is malfunctioning, relations between human and computer become hostile. The function of this film is not to portray computers as evil beings. 2001 serves as a science fiction thought piece on what the next step of evolution might be. The film starts by showing the dawn of man four million years ago. The actions of the apes are primal. They are mostly herbivores

The here you go the masters declared before demanding fellatio be performed captures the cruel, sadistic nature of the dialogue, and the nature in which sexual aggression was used as means of domination in the slaveholder to slave relationship in the slave narrative(Morrison 127). In the Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, Douglass was the offspring of a similar instance of forced sexual encounters between slaveholder and slave when he acknowledges my father was a white man, (Douglass 12). Through acts of sexual aggression in slave narratives, the ability for slaves to form individual sexual identities is diminished. Sexuality in Beloved establishes a view of sex for former slaves that hinders the creation of a personal identity beyond slavery, and through this use of sexuality, even following physical freedom, a former slave s identity is still very much tied to their past enslavement. An instance of sexuality in Narratives of the Life of Frederick Douglass occurs early on in the narrative, and helps establish critical framework for how sexuality can be viewed in Beloved. Before describing the whipping of Aunt Hester, Douglass says Aunt Hester had not only disobeyed his orders in going out, but had been found in company with Lloyd s Ned; which circumstance, I found, from what he said while whipping her, was the chief offence, (Douglass

At the end of the chapter a theoretical framework is explained followed by a brief section of a review of the research philosophies. 2.2 Theoretical Review There are various theories that are used in the field of operations management. In this section the knowledge based view and the resource based theory are briefly examined. 2.2.1 The Knowledge Based View (KBV) Knowledge based view (KBV) argues that knowledge, explicit information and tacit know how (Kogut and Zander, 1992), is an intangible strategic resource and firms can gain competitive advantages through combining and creating knowledge. However, firms not only have to possess internal resources or knowledge to enhance innovation capability, but also need to establish linkages with their partners in the network to leverage on external resources and knowledge (Zhang et al., 2010), which could be conceptualized as absorptive capacity. Absorptive capacity is constituted by a set of organizational routines and processes that enable the firm to explore, transform, and exploit knowledge from different sources (Volberda et al., 2010). For manufacturing firms, new knowledge often comes from external sources such as suppliers or customers (Zhiqiang et al., 2016). 2.2.2 Resource Based View (RBV) Theory This theory views a firm as

Taking a Look at the Russian-Ukraine Conflict The conflict stems from the result of the Government s decision to turn down the European Union proposed association agreement in 2013 and instead Ukraine s President Viktor Yanukovych accepted fifteen billion dollars in aid and other economic benefits from Russian President Vladimir Putin. For years Ukrainianshave yearned for economic reform that would seek to open new trade and economic ties with Western European countries. President Yanukovych s decision to reject the EU s proposal ignored the feeling of the majority of Ukrainian citizens and further solidified the sentiment that their government was strengthening ties with Russiaand not with the west. President Yanukovych actions spawned unrest among the Ukrainian people, forcing them to condemn and denounce their corrupt government and to question their Presidents legitimacy. This pushed an already fractured society into the streets of Kiev, the capital of Ukraine to protest their disapproval. In response President Yanukovych ordered riot police and military personnel to move into cities throughout Ukraine in order to squash any dissent. Clashes between opposition and the government slowly escalated over a two month period, in February the death toll for protesters in the city of Kiev rose into the hundreds. On February 21 members of the opposition overtook the capital and the Presidents Yanukovych residence, forcing him to flee to Russia to avoid charges by the opposition of murdering protesters. Russia

It can be something as simple as looking for a higher meaning to life, or something so complex that one can base their beliefs, religion and overall life around it. There are several different ways to express one s spirituality; rituals, songs, dances, stories, and writings are all common methods of expression. Spirituality can be found in almost anything. In his book The Sacred Balance, Suzuki discusses his view that people and the earth are all made of the same things and therefore we both need the same elements to survive: earth, air, fire and water. For humans to lead rich lives, Suzuki also adds love and spirit to the list. In the introduction to The Sacred Balance, Suzuki interviews a Haida Gwaii artist named Guujaaw about the battle over clear cut logging in his native Queen Charlotte Islands. Although the logging industry in the islands generated several much needed jobs, many of the Haida were opposed to it. Guujaaw stated that after the trees were all gone, his people would be just like everybody else, and they would not be Haida anymore. The fact that somebody would feel so connected with the trees, to include them in their identity proves that spirituality can be found in nature. For Gujarat s people the trees, the birds, the fish, the water, the wind are all parts of the Haida identity. Their land, and everything on it, means so much to the Haida people that they would be willing to sacrifice jobs and economy to keep the integrity of their culture, history, and the land that is all a part of their identity. • 40. David Thoreau Paradox Humans have been using the measurement of time to dictate their day since the early eras of ancient civilizations with sundial then evolving into the mechanical clocks we use today. For thousands of years with time measurement tools, humans have depended on a strict schedule to determine what to do to use up the time they have. In today s modern world, adult humans use their time to contribute to society by working nine to five jobs and young adults spending their childhood in a classroom. In Henry David Thoreaus book, Walden; Life in the Woods, Thoreau discusses the concept of time. In Thoreau s excerpt Economy, he offers the paradox whether humans live off borrowed time or stolen time from their employers. He explains in a rhetorical statement that by reading his own book would be robbing your creditors of an hour, implying that the human civilization has been putting their work in front of their own self interests in hope of success and money. Although Thoreau wrote the paradox as a brief commentary for the money driven human civilization, this paradox acts as a metaphor towards Thoreau s view on the use of time for humanity. As a child, I ve seen my parents focused the majority of their time and energy at their work to provide for our family. In 2000, the U.S Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics had recorded that working couples with children under 18 years of age worked an average of 66 hours a week compared to couples without children, who worked an

Basically KFF is wasting recourses creating one more stand alone module that is not integrated in enterprise wide inventory system. It would be more cost efficient for Kudler to do some customization of inventory management to obtain information about customer behavior. Company s web site doesn t provide customers with an opportunity to place online orders. The company would benefit from installing e commerce software and connecting it to merchandise database. It would be beneficial for Kudler to run a blog on company s web site where customers can give a feedback and learn about in store events, cooking classes, gourmet recipes, etc. Revenue management POS system in every store provides daily sales report. This report is a starting point for each store manager to forecast future sales and cash flows. Sometimes stores have difficulties with cash purchases of large amounts of fresh locally grown produce, because of not sufficient cash on store s bank account. If stores were able to have one consolidated bank account it would be easier to accumulate cash for purchases. The main obstacle to it is an absence of integrated computer information system

  • 48. The Theory Of The Division Of Labor If I were Smith, I think the theory of the division of labor can still apply to this on demand economy. With the concept of the independent worker who controls the product he or she produces, it promotes the division of labor, as workers are assigned to specialize in different fields so that they might become experts in making something specific, and then having ample surplus to trade. For instance, Uber is just an app on smartphone to meet consumers needs without any control and intervention of their drivers working time. In other words, the worker (the driver) is the solely one to control their surplus that is the income source from their driving hours. Moreover, the specialization theory is better known as division of labor, which broke large jobs into smaller jobs then would assign jobs to workers. Everything is mostly done by machines contemporary, we still use this idea but in a different way. It creates an increase in output and occasions technological specialization, which further increases productivity. For instance, Topcoder broke its big projects into small sized project and divided them to their freelance developers. It implies assigning each labor to the job that suits him best. Furthermore, there is an expansion of the market that brings about the division of labor under this on demand economy. Price decrease leads to the expansion of market and population growth as competition formed among companies. For example, Alfred aggregates on demand companies in
