Dismissal Without Cause
Dismissal With or Without Cause
There are two main types of dismissal: dismissal with cause, and dismissal without cause.
Dismissal with cause requires some kind of serious misconduct on your part as the employee. If you
steal from your employer or violate legal company rules, your employer is well within their right to
fire you without notice, and they are not required to offer you a severance package. This type of
dismissal without notice is only legal if your employer can prove that your misconduct was so serious
that it was reasonable to let you go on the spot. Often, this means repeated attempts by your employer
to correct your behavior or a serious breach of your employment contract.
Dismissal without cause happens when your employer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They can t let you go for discriminatory reasons (including your gender, ethnicity, pregnancy, or any
other factor outlined in the Human Rights Code) or for speaking up about your rights according to the
Employment Standards Act or the Occupational Health and Safety Act. If you believe you have been
illegally dismissed, you should consult a lawyer right away. You may have the right to be reinstated in
your position or have the ability to pursue remedies not available in other wrongful dismissal cases.
Wrongful Dismissal
If you believe your dismissal was handled incorrectly, a wrongful dismissal action is the only leverage
you have to negotiate a fair severance package that compensates you for the working notice you
should have received.
One very important thing to note is that you have a duty to mitigate the damages caused by the
termination of your employment. In other words, you have an obligation to try to find other work in
your field after losing your job. It s important to document your job search so you can prove that you
ve taken reasonable steps to find comparable employment while awaiting the result of your wrongful
dismissal action. The purpose of fair notice is to give you enough time to find another job, so if you do
find work before your fair notice time is up, any earnings you receive will be deducted from your final

Necrophilia Cults
As defined by the American Heritage Dictionary a cult is 1) a system or community of religious
worship and ritual 2a) a devoted attachment to, or extravagant admiration for, a person, principle, etc.,
especially when regarded as a fad b) the object of such attachment 3) a group of followers; (Aronoff,
2000).
Some of the major features of cults as described by Whitsett et al. include family dynamics within
cults, child abuse, health issues, and moral development. A common/devastating repercussion of cult
participation is losing complete control by subjecting to leadership. Cult leaders are so controlling
they typically curtail and demolish relationships between families when they feel their loyalty is being
threatened. Members of cults are denied independence and all parental authority is diminished. Cults
tear families apart, take children away from their parents, and demand complete control over all of the
members.
An alarming ramification of participating in a cult is that the members are regularly facing feelings of
extreme shame and humiliation, in the community and at home. Children are forced into feelings of
humiliation and parental abandonment so that in turn they search for someone to look up to and
admire, in this case the cult leader. While, the adults within the cult are shamed into feeling less ...

Essay on pop culture
Introduction
Technological advancements the last decades have contributed to the creation of a globalized era, with
the English language as a common denominator, as the major language spoken between those who do
not share any language.
Globalization have made it possible for an extreme output of popular culture that has mainly origins of
English speaking countries with U.S.A. as the main exporter of popular culture through music,
movies, television etc. In this essay I explore the positive aspects that using popular music in the
classroom might potentially have. In my main issues I discuss the motivational aspects of popular
culture, why teachers might feel insecure or unwilling to use the student s personal interests of popular

Claims that pop culture does not belong in the classroom are outdated.
Teachers might feel a general unwillingness toward incorporating popular culture in the classroom and
there are often several issues that create this point of view. teachers might not understand the
contemporary popular culture of today s youth and therefore project negative thoughts on what is
popular, expressing ideas such as; children who are more interested in popular culture are not as bright
as those who prefer reading. Teachers might also regard pop culture as contra productive for student s
creativity and reason that they get enough of input in their spare time (Lambirth, 2003). However, the
teachers are not those who can fully take the blame for not wanting to incorporate popular culture in
the classroom. The teachers are caught between the two strong influences, of the popular culture
industry and those who create the educational policies (Lambirth, 2003) It might therefore be unfair to
lay blame on teachers for not wanting to take a gamble on their jobs and career by using methods that
does not follow their curriculum. Using popular culture in the subject demands some knowledge of
current technology and in using media properly in the classroom. The teacher

Canada s Pipeline System Has An Enviable Safety Record
Natural Resources Canada ( NRC ) estimates there are 100,000 Km of large diameter oil and gas
transmission lines in Canada, about 73,000 Km of which are federally regulated by the National
Energy Board ( NEB ). Canada s pipeline system has an enviable safety record. The NRC reports that
between 2009 and 2013, 99.999% of the crude oil and petroleum products carried by NRC regulated
pipelines were delivered safely and between 2011 and 2013, 100% of products released by these
pipelines were recovered safely. Canada depends heavily on these pipelines to move oil and gas to
ports, refineries, businesses, and homes across the country. Their safe operation is central to the

Natural gas pipelines in British Columbia were bombed six times between October 2008 and July
2009 by unknown perpetrators in acts classified by authorities as environmentally motivated domestic
terrorism. As alarming as these events are, physical attacks on pipelines are far easier to predict,
prevent, and resolve than cyber attacks.
Sophisticated hackers have expanded their threat matrix to include cyber attacks on the computer
systems used to operate the world s pipelines. Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition ( SCADA )
systems are increasingly subject to targeted attacks. Cyber attacks can be perpetrated over the Internet
from anywhere in the world and are capable of disrupting safe pipeline operation causing spills,
explosions, or fires. The 2008 explosion on the Baku Tbilisi Ceyhan oil pipeline in Turkey was
reportedly caused by a cyber attack.
In 2012, the Industrial Control Systems Cyber Emergency Response Team of the US Department of
Homeland Security identified a series of cyber attacks on American natural gas pipelines that had
continued for more than a year. The pipeline companies reported targeted phishing attempts and
intrusions into multiple natural gas pipelines positively identified ... as related to a single campaign. In

Suspended Driver s License In Violation
INTRODUCTION:
This case involves the suspect being arrested for driving on a suspended driver s license in violation of
CVC 14601.1 (a) Suspended Driver s License and an outstanding arrest warrant.
INVESTIGATION:
On 05 18 17 at 0107 hours, I was working uniformed patrol in police unit #16. I was traveling west on
Walnut Street approaching Madison Avenue. I observed a tan 4 door Kia Amanti also traveling west
on Walnut Street, directly in front of me. I saw that the vehicle did not have a rear license plate in
violation of CVC 5200(a) No License Plate.
I activated my overhead emergency lights/siren and conducted a traffic stop on Walnut Street east of
Madison Avenue. I contacted the driver, later identified as Suspect Emajanae Ayashi Whitebear and
asked for her driver s license, registration and proof of insurance. Whitebear gave me a California ID
card instead of a California driver s license. Whitebear stated her California driver s license was
recently reinstated from a prior suspension. Whitebear did not have proof of her driver s license being
reinstated. Officer Sprague arrived on scene and assisted me. ... Show more content on

Whitebear also had an outstanding arrest warrant (see attached printout). I handcuffed and arrested
Whitebear on the arrest warrant. The handcuffs were double locked.
The vehicle was later towed by J M Towing located at 906 Westminster Avenue, Alhambra (626) 289

Malicious Prosecution
Discussion I. Can our client satisfy the first requirement for a malicious prosecution suit that requires
that the termination of the earlier suit be in the plaintiff s favor when in our client s case their
termination was due to a voluntary dismissal by the initial plaintiff who changed her mind about her
claim?
To meet the first element favorable termination a plaintiff cannot rely on a settlement of the case that
both parties agree to. Once the litigation ends by settlement there is no favorable termination for the
purpose of pursuing a malicious prosecution. A favorable termination is satisfied by abandonment or
dismissal and without any final determination merits. However there are preceding cases that require
that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The judgment entered by the trial court on the motion to dismiss was reversed because a termination
must be in favor of the person against whom civil proceedings are brought.
To have an action for malicious prosecution, our client must prove that a favorable termination has
taken place. In the Colli case it establishes that a voluntary dismissal without prejudice of a will
contest is a favorable termination. In the Frey case it is stated that when a termination or dismissal
indicates in some fashion that the accused is innocent of wrongdoing it is a favorable termination.
Also a termination without a trial on the merits may be a favorable termination of litigation if the
circumstances indicate the innocence or freedom from liability of the defendant. In a case where there
is no adjunction on the merits the existence of favorable termination of the prior proceeding, you must
look at the facts to determine what actually occurred and whom the termination benefitted. II. Can our
client show a special injury from another earlier suit against him, as required to have an action for
malicious prosecution, when his charter boat was seized pending the suit as allowed by state, and
when his professional reputation was damaged because of the suit?
To meet the fourth element special injury a plaintiff must show a special injury from the previous
malicious suit. A special injury can be met by

The War On Terror ( Wot )
The War on Terror (WoT), also known as the Global War on Terrorism (GWOT), refers to the
international military campaign that started after the September 11 attacks on the United States.[47]
U.S. President George W. Bush first used the term War on Terror on 20 September 2001.[47] The
Bush administration and the western media have since used the term to argue a global military,
political, legal, and conceptual struggle against both organizations designated terrorist and regimes
accused of supporting them. It was originally used with a particular focus on countries associated with
Islamic terrorism organizations including al Qaeda and like minded organizations.
In 2013, President Barack Obama announced that the United States was no longer pursuing a War on
Terror, as the military focus should be on specific enemies rather than a tactic. He stated, We must
define our effort not as a boundless Global War on Terror , but rather as a series of persistent, targeted
efforts to dismantle specific networks of violent extremists that threaten America. [48]
The phrase War on Terror has been used to specifically refer to the ongoing military campaign led by
the U.S., UK and their allies against organizations and regimes identified by them as terrorist, and
excludes other independent counter terrorist operations and campaigns such as those by Russia and
India. The conflict has also been referred to by names other than the War on Terror.
In 1984, the Reagan Administration used

Witchcraft in the 17th Century Essay
Witchcraft in the 17th Century
Witchcraft in Europe during the 17th century was common. It mainly took place in Germany, but also
took place in England. Witches were associated with evil; it was believed witches inherited magical
powers from Satan in exchange for the witch s soul. Some of these magical powers included
outrageous claims such as flying, being able to transform and cursing bad luck on others. It was
extremely dangerous to be accused of being a witch as the most common punishment was death, often
by beheading or even being burnt at the stake.
A large proportion of society in England believed in witchcraft, but the reasons as to why a country

[IMAGE]One of the most famous ways in history to test if one was guilty of witchcraft was the
swimming of witches method. This type of trial involved attaching a rope around a person s body and
dunking them in the water, if they were to float then they would be considered guilty. The water was
supposed to represent purity, anybody who floated was thought to have a pact with Satan and therefore
rise to the top. Although this technique was not meant as a punishment many people drowned as a
result. This type of trial was later outlawed as a superstitious and disorderly practice.
Stearne and Hopkins were two men famous for there witch hunts during the 1640 s. By 1646 Hopkins

about either of them but from records Hopkins is believed to be hot headed, arrogant and very
outgoing, he even named himself Witchfinder General. By contrast his partner Stearne was very
closed and bookish , he was not as notorious as Hopkins but had an involvement.
Surprisingly Hopkins was praised by the people and had a lot of public support, people who believed

The Last Days Of The Incas
The Last Days of the Incas:
How the conquest of the Spaniards led to an impact on one of the world s largest empires. The Inca
Empire, shortly after its beginning, fell under the rule of the Spaniards but was still one of the world s
ancient largest empires. It wasn t until around 1400 that the Incas began to emerge as the dominant
regional polity . On the eve of the early 1530 s the Spanish invaded the Incas . However, the Incan
rulers had just fought a civil war in which Atahualpa, the emperor, had defeated his brother Huascar.
Reasonably, the Incas were defensive towards those who approached the empire. Eventually when the
leader of the Spanish conquest Francisco Pizarro along with a force of 167 men came along, they

Comparison of Paintings of Irene and St Sebastian
The subject of this painting is Irene pulling an arrow from the body of St. Sebastian. Each figure in the
painting looks to contribute to a different part of a healing process; Saint Sebastian s body conveys the
idea of being sick or dying. His hands are tied up with rope, which gives the idea that he was injured
by the shadowy figures in the background and left for dead. Irene is kneeling to the right wearing the
red clothe and is being assisted by a servant is helping him by pulling an arrow from the saint s leg.
Life is being restored to Saint Sebastian, which is depicted by the two angels fly overhead, the crown
being held by the angels may suggest him becoming a saint for sacrificing himself for a belief. The
figures in the foreground take up most of the painting and are telling most of the stories happening.
Only a little of the figures in the background are being shown, but these figures are being directed to
by circular shape in the middle of the frame, that is showing an important connection to the
foreground. Most of the lines in the painting run horizontal and cross each other to drag the viewer s
eyes around the frame. The body of Saint Sebastian intersects the arm of the woman, also the direction
of the heads in the foreground creates implied lines that connect bring the viewer back and forth
across the painting. The in this painting like most of this era use lines help to convey motion. The uses

What Are The Causes Of The Age Of Exploration
The Age of Exploration, starting from the 15th century and lasting until the beginning of the 17th
century, was a period of time in which the Europeans explored the Americas and Africa while
searching for a more efficient trade route with Asia. However, the Europeans did not just discover this
lands, but also made use of them and the native population. The causes of the Age of Exploration were
God, Gold and Glory which effects were the expansion of Christianity, importation of precious
resources into Europe and colonization of new lands.
The first cause of the Age of Exploration was God which resulted in an expansion of Christianity.
Missionaries were sent to the newly discovered continents to convert the native population to

In the beginning of the 16th century, the importation of gold was close to zero but a century after
Columbus found America, the income of gold from the new world reached almost 7 millions of

sending missionaries to convert and conquistadors to kill the native population and use their lands.
The whole scheme of the Europeans was created by the desire to import more resources in their
countries. This leads to the discovery of new continents which resources and native people are
exploited by most of the coastal countries in Europe. However, the huge import of precious metals
leads to inflation. That makes countries like Spain and Portuguese one the richest and most powerful

Memory Of Dylan Hart. Born Essay
In memory of Dylan Hart. Born: May 4th, 1980. Died: April 22nd, 1991 of Leukemia. I graze my
fingers over the lustrous gold letters that were engraved on the plaque with the photograph of the
contented young boy whose eyes looked so full of life. I never experienced a loss of someone I loved,
and as I look up at the boy in the baseball cap I was longing to know how loss felt. I longed to feel the
worst kind of pain, not for the pleasure, but to know that no feeling in the world can be worse.
Unexpectedly arriving and disrupting my days with excruciating feelings of terror and pain were
daymares. The unexplainable became an ordinary to my middle school self; however, I never got
accustomed to the unnerving dreams themselves. Experiencing the pain of death meant that I would be
ready for what were agonizing feelings I endured in my dreams, but I would not know until later on
that I was a naive child who asked and received too much to bear. I took a step back and looked up at
the brick wall that ended abruptly between the wooden plaque and our school mascot: the black
panther. I looked longingly as if in the back of my mind I knew there was something missing. I know
you, I walked with you once upon a dream... , The song was playing in my head softly but distinctly
enough that only I could hear it, like in a horror movie. My eyes started to move slowly, and I was
looking at my surroundings. I felt nauseous and started to sense every little thing that moved. The tiny

Witchcraft Hysteria By Laurie Winn Carlson
As Peter S Beagle says, You ever want to see real witchcraft, you watch people protecting their
comfort, their beliefs. This quote is saying if you want to truly understand someone, learn about what
they believe in. It all began in Salem, Massachusetts in 1692. The accusations toward people who
were thought to be witches was on the rise. These would not be the kind of witches a person would
think about in today s world, but women and men who were put on trial for witchcraft hysteria, which
in turn caused mass hysteria. Based on the excerpts from Carol Karlsen and Laurie Winn Carlson,
there are two main theories about the Salem Witchcraft Hysteria. One theory about the witches was
crafted and explained by Carol Karlsen. She believed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Following this, in January 1692, nine year old Elizabeth Parris and eleven year old Abigail Williams
began having fits. The fits included violent contortions and uncontrollable outbursts of screaming.
After a local doctor by the name of William Griggs diagnosed the girls with bewitchment, other girls
in the area began to exhibit similar symptoms. After Elizabeth Parris and Abigail Williams both had
symptoms of being witches, it spread like wildfire in the community, followed by many others having
similar symptoms. As stated by A E networks, a historical archive website, As hysteria spread through
the community and beyond into the rest of Massachusetts, a number of others were accused, including
Martha Corey and Rebecca Nurse both regarded as upstanding members of church and community
and the four year old daughter of Sarah Good. After a while the trials became very overwhelming and
concerning to others in the community. The historical events of Salem are documented, however
historians have yet to come to consensus on the true cause of the hysteria. Many textbooks and articles
detail the Salem Witchcraft trials of 1692, as well as the many theories. A highly respected theory
centers around the idea that the witchcraft was basically people just having hallucinations. As Laurie
Carlson states in her argument, Between 1689 and 1700 the citizens complained of symptoms that
included fits, spectral visions, mental distraction , pinching

First Concentration Camp
The First Concentration Camps
The first concentration camps were very important to the entire holocaust. The Nazis were able to
imprison any people who were seen as non Aryan in camps where they would be forced to work or
they could even be killed upon arrival. Therefore, many people died in these camps because of their
race or religion. There were very brutal living conditions in most camps and it made an enormous
impact on the lives of all prisoners. The first concentration camps were complex and heavily impacted
many of the most popular camps of the holocaust. Overall, these camps set the stage for what the
holocaust would evolve by introducing what was going to happen in the next 13 years.

example, After 1938, authority to incarcerate persons in a concentration camp formally rested
exclusively with the German Security Police (made up of the Gestapo and the Criminal Police)

How Technology Has Changed The Speed Of A Fan
Executive Summary
In this modern era, all the systems are automated and old systems are being replaced. Microcontrollers
has revolutionised today s technology. All the appliances, devices and gadgets, we using these days
are self controlling. Microcontrollers are the brain of these devices. Energy is today s most demanding
thing. Thus we need appliances which uses less energy and more efficient. In 20th century appliances
were not much efficient as compared to todays. Today s appliances turn on and off automatically, thus
save energy. All this has become possible because of microcontrollers.

Today, fans are used in daily purposes . They are used to control the room temperature. A fan is
controlled by a regulator, which has different speed levels but during night the metabolic rate of
human body changes and thus one has to wake up from time to time and change the speed of fan. This
thing actually makes life hard of a disabled person. Also electricity usage is continous and more than
the desired usage. So required a smart, efficient and reliable closed loop control system which
automatically controls the speed level according to change in the room tempeature.

Dividing His Cloak with a Beggar Ambrogio Lorenzetti Middle ages and Early Renaissance St. Martin
of Tours Dividing His Cloak with a Beggar by Ambrogio Lorenzetti St. Martin of Tours Dividing His
Cloak with a Beggar is a painting that portraits the story of St. Martin, a wealthy soldier, giving a part
of his cloak to a cold beggar in the winter. A famous Italian painter, Ambrogio Lorenzetti, painted this.
This work of art was painted roughly in the year 1340. The painting is still around today with almost
no damage done to it. It is currently held in the Yale Art Gallery, along with many other Italian
paintings. This painting used to be a part of a triptych. This means that it was a part of three paintings
that were meant to be seen all at once. The triptych showed the Virgin and Child, and The Charity of

it stand out more than anything else. Another reason why it stands out is because Lorenzetti made the

MANET (Mobile Ad hoc Network) is a infrastructure less network and connected without wired in the
network. It is self determine in any direction and also changes the connections from one system to

The p2p is sharing and distributing the digital media using network topology. The p2p file sharing
method makes large networks in which nodes share files directly with each other using decentralized
server. It can share the files for example audios, images, games, files, videos, graphics, text, and etc.
MANET have some advantages that are mobility, cost effective, less time consuming, self

In disconnected MANET, p2p file sharing systems is based on two methods flooding based and

College Is A Great Feeder School For Brigham Young University
University or Community College.
Ever since I can remember my parents told me that college was key to being successful in life. If you
didn t attend a good college your life was most likely not going to be a very happy one. This message
has stayed with me throughout my life , education was of great importance and college was the key
factor of where you ended up in life. High school counselors, teachers, parents, and mentors all
emphasized that the better the college you attend the more opportunities you ll have. When I was a
high school senior and had to think seriously about the future, I applied for many schools and landed
at Utah Valley University, a great feeder school for Brigham Young University. I attended Utah Valley
University for 1 semester, following Utah Valley I attend a community college instead, Coastline

likenesses and the differences between the university life and the community college life. I can see no
college is alike, and that doesn t mean one college is better than another. It took transferring to a
community college to see that not even a university is better than a community college.

Monopoly And Monopolistic Competitive Market
The study of Microeconomics tells us of the different market structures the economy is made of. For
the purpose of this paper, we will take an in depth look at three of these such market structures.
Monopoly and Monopolistic competitive market along with Oligopoly. We will look at how and why
these markets exist in conjunction with the advantages to the producer and the disadvantages to the
consumer. As we research Monopoly in detail, compare the monopolistic competitive market and
Oligopoly, we will also discuss the Gas market in relation to these types of markets. To begin to
understand monopolies, we have researched several things. Why do they exist? What do they do, in
response to the economy? Although, we don t see many monopolies now due to antitrust laws to
prevent monopolies from forming, there are natural monopolies. There are several reasons why
monopolies exist. These are known as barriers to entry. Scarce resources with one producer can limit
the number of other firms joining the market as competition. Increasing returns to scale prevents
smaller firms from entering an industry because as output rises average total cost falls. This in turn
enables these producers to grow and tolerate the monopoly. This is now where a natural monopoly is
formed. A single producer of an industry has a large cost advantage over other smaller firms, if they
existed in the industry. A natural monopoly includes local water, gas and electricity providers. These

Correlation Between Weber s Law And Visual Perception
Abstract The purpose of this study was to measure and record the just noticeable difference
(or JND) thresholds of random participants using their visual based perception and to replicate and
confirm Weber s Law. Through this four level single factor experiment, these participants were asked
to compare two lines which were flashed to them on a computer screen. Their objective at that point
was to choose which line was longer of the two that were shown, and this was repeated 160 times at
four different levels of line sizes: one inch, two inch, three inch, and four inch with each level having
40 trials. Once the JND values were obtained, they were then statistically analyzed and evaluated in
terms of whether or not they were consistent with Weber s Law. Collection along with the analysis of
the data were all done on the University of California, Irvine campus inside the Social Science
Laboratory. Based on the results, we can conclude there is a relationship between Weber s Law and
visual perception, but this may not always be true.
During the 19th century, popular experimental based psychologist named Ernst Weber developed a
theory on human perception, proclaiming that for a difference to be perceived in two stimuli, they
must differ by a certain minimum value, or in other words, a just noticeable difference, also known as
difference limen or difference threshold. His contributions to the subject of psychophysics led to his
theory being named Weber s Law. This law

A grin formed across Thomas s face, as he glanced over at the grim reaper costume that was lying on
top of his dresser. Snatching it up, he pulled the black robe over his head, and then placed the skull
mask over his face. Covering his head with the hood, he grabbed the plastic scythe that was leaning
against the wall.
Standing in front of the mirror, he gazed at the dark, voiceless creature with the two empty eye sockets

the Germans discovered the true purpose of the Home Guard, to establish a free and independent

since the polynomial curve. I think this because the curve passes through most of the data points and is

happened because the holes that were being blocked by the overlapping of the cloth in value 0,04 were
more than in the value of 0,02 cm. The more holes getting blocked by the overlapping of the cloth will
cause the light to not be able to pass through which then causes the results to be low. This is a pattern

The Reality Of Reality Television Essay
Reality television is now one of the most consumed television genres broadcasted to the general
public. Reality television has become more about mindless watching and creating the most unrealistic
environment possible, rather than creating a show for an important purpose. Today, shows like Beauty
and the Geek, Big Brother, and every other reality show fit into this mold, but when viewed critically
lessons appear. In the case of TV today, reality shows depict an altered reality because of the
unrealistic situations this genre presents. Firstly, Beauty and the Geek claimed they conducted the
ultimate social experiment, and yet is still considered as a show in the genre of reality TV. Since
Beauty and the Geek subsisted as a social experiment, altered variables, such as the environment,
influenced participants to conduct themselves in a different way than how they would behave on a
regular basis in reaction to the stimuli the show provided. Contestants altered their behavior by
sharing a bed with a stranger, and they acted friendly because they were now living with strangers in a
home with cameras, so they felt they needed to impress. Beauty and the Geek is comparable to Big
Brother because they were both filmed under altered conditions. For Big Brother specifically, the
contestants participated under a much more controlled environment by being locked into a compound
that was cut off from the rest of the outside world. This meant no TVs, phones, computers, etc., which

In the novel Death in Venice, by Thomas Mann, an observer compliments the main character Gustave
von Aschenbach by saying, You see, Aschenbach has always lived like this here the speaker closed the
fingers of his left hand to a fist never like this and he let his hand hang relaxed from the back of his
chair (p. 1069). This is a perfect description of Aschenbach, a man set in convention, driven to
succeed from an early age, quite dull really. After all, his favorite motto was hold fast (p. 1070). He

As though driven by some unknown, perhaps ominous, force, he feels a change of scenery is
necessary, and endeavors to set off for Italy. Upon arriving in the Adriatic islands, however, he sees
that he has made an error, and instead embarks for Venice, a city which he has visited before, but that
is on this occasion different. Even as he arrives in the city by sea, he recognizes a change in it from the
last time he was there. It is appropriate, then, that the city will entirely change his life.
It is in Veniuce that he encounters Tadzio, a Polish boy visiting the city with his family. At first merely
interested in Tadzio aesthetically, with a sort of detached curiosity that one might show towards a
beautiful piece of art, Gustave soon finds himself growing more and more enamored of the young boy.
Over the course of the story, Aschenbach slowly lets go of his inhibitions and ceases to suppress the
feelings of longing and desire that he has spent most of his life denying.
As the title undoubtedly indicates, or certainly hints at, Venice will be the downfall of Aschenbach.
And yet, despite this, the story is never dull or predictable. Without wasting a single word, Mann
paints a detailed picture of every setting and every emotion. The language is rich and vivid, and yet
casual; the details seem at times extraneous, but all have a hidden subtext if one is willing to read into
them. All

resources and defending of territorial issue in the south and southeast (Ross 2009: 55; Storey 2008:
115).
Meanwhile in southern part of its territory several maritime dispute disputes began to attract China s
attention. During early decade of 1990s, China had just ratified United Nations Convention on the
Law of the Sea 1982 (UNCLOS 1982) in 1992. The ratification is going to allow China to claim 200
nautical miles as its exclusive economic zone (EEZ) and could exploit oil and gas located in South
China Sea basin. Beside that, the growing tension because of Taiwan s independence in 1990 had
significantly altered China focus to the South and modernization its military force. Geopolitical nature
of the potential maritime conflict in the south had forced China to modernize its naval power (Storey
2008: 115).
This could be considered as changing posture of China s military capability from cumbersome
continental power towards more modern and dynamic naval power in responding future political and
military dispute in the southern part of its territory (Ross 2009: 56). China s military modernization
that aims to built capability to project its power

Mom! Mom! Sara shouted when she arrived home from school. She seem exited for something. Her
mom went to the living room to receive her. She noticed Sara was wearing a new coat. It was a furry

jacket! said her mom. It is really pretty! So tell me Sara, why are you so exited? . Mom, we are having

The Food Of Food Industry
Additives in Food
People used to appreciate wholesome, nutritious food. These days, the American diet is comprised of
primarily processed food. Is health being sacrificed for convenience? What is really in the food that
Americans eat? Are all the preservatives and additives hurting consumers more than they are helping?
There are definitely benefits to the modern food industry; however, consumers want to be sure that
these benefits outweigh the risks associated with this new food technology. Food manufacturers seem
to be doing well short term, but consumers do not want to suffer in the long run from all these
unnatural additives and processes. These additional chemicals in food may be causing diseases
without us realizing it. People spend so much time investigating which TV, car or even house to buy.
Certainly, they should spend as much time if not more considering what to fill their shopping carts
with at the grocery store. Even though additives help increase food production and food preservation,
people should be careful about what they eat and try to avoid unnecessary additives because they are
unnatural, unhealthy and compromise the wholesomeness of the food.
Literature Review
Laliberte (n.d.) presented the benefits and risks associated with additives in food and explained that
the new food technology is so popular because it is inexpensive, effective, and convenient. People
enjoy the ease of ready made food and the advertising makes it all the more appealing

Pros And Cons Of Dynamite
Films
As you go through life, you will meet a lot of people that do not like the same things that you do. This
is a personal preference difference, and it s normal. But anybody who says that they don t like
Napoleon Dynamite is a fucking sociopath asshole who needs to be put to the sword. These people do
not understand humor, and they are worthless.
Gamboh 2016
Film is my passion. I thoroughly enjoy watching and analyzing movies finding the pros and cons. In
film there are many different pieces that have to go together in order to make a movie work including:
cinematography, the actual image and how it is displayed; sound, the score, sound effects and overall
how clear it is to understand what actors are saying; the editing, how all the individual clips are put
together; and dialogue and story, what the actors are saying and what the movie is about. A bad movie
probably has done most of these poorly. A good movie may be lacking in one of these departments. A
great movie has all bases covered, however, there are exceptions on this depending on personal
preference. Some movies might end up being controversial. Some may love it. Same may hate it. But
one must still appreciate a movie for all the hard work and effort that has been poured into it. My
favourite example of a polarizing movie is Jared Hess 2004 movie Napoleon Dynamite. ... Show more

The movie shows how high school student Napoleon Dynamite aimlessly goes about his way. The
lack of direction from the story portrays life perfectly, how everything we do really isn t following a
set path. This exchange from the very start of the movie perfectly sums up it

Should Nato Kill Human Shields
Should NATO Kill Human Shields in Order to Fight ISIS? An Ethical Analysis Tiffany Elizabeth
Namey Should NATO Kill Human Shields in Order to Fight ISIS? An Ethical Analysis In an effort to
thwart United States airstrikes against key areas, such as Ramadi, The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria,
commonly known as ISIS, are increasing the use of human shields. ISIS terrorists are strapping
innocent civilians, especially women and children, to the front of their tanks and using them as escorts
to circumvent the North Atlantic Treaty Organization s rules of engagement. (Brennan, 2015) The
United States goal is to restrict the amount of collateral damage, which is code for restricting the
amount of innocent lives lost due to United States bombs. If the U.S. and our allies refuse to kill
innocent people the terrorists will continue to kill soldiers. If the U.S. and our Allies begin to
purposefully kill innocent people to advance our cause, how is the U.S. different from ISIS? Why
should NATO move forward and kill these innocent people? . Dror Dagan, a disabled veteran, tells the
story of how he ended up in a wheel chair to the Federalist, a conservative online newspaper: When
we burst into the house and quickly scanned the rooms, the wife of the terrorist, a senior Hamas
member, fainted. As a medic, I did not hesitate and started taking care of her... Not two minutes passed
and it turned out that it was a trap. It was all pretend, a trick to gain time so the suspect could get

Analyzing Cat Stevens Poems Father And Son
Cat Stevens, from his own store of felt, observed, and/or imagined experiences, wrote the poem Father
and Son . This poem creates new experiences for his audience and allows them to participate in the
poem, from which they may gain a greater awareness and understanding of their world. Stevens
utilizes his poem in order to both increase and clarify the audience s range of experience. While
interpreting and trying to understand this poem I became extremely aware of the relationship between
the two characters: a father and his son. The father and his son s relationship is very conflicted. They
have difficulty communicating and understanding one another. The father and his son are both trying
to share important information, but they aren t truly listening to each other. ... Show more content on

there s so much [he has] to go through . Unlike his son, father has had plenty of experience and knows
a great deal more about life. Wanting to help, the father attempts to give his son valuable advice about
life, saying that he is satisfied with his own life and his son will also be satisfied if he takes an
identical path. However, like many teenagers, the son disregards the importance of his father s words.
The son doesn t physically speak in this poem as his lyrics in the song are his thoughts. Nevertheless,
it is evident through his thoughts that he is struggling to communicate to his father that he wants take a
path different from the one his father wants him to take. His frustration is apparent as he has tried to

Qin Shi Huangdi s The Great Wall Of China
The Great Wall of China
The reason why China suffers bitterly from endless wars is because of the existence of feudal lords
and kings. ~Qin Shi Huang. This quote was said by Qin Shi Huang, constructor of the Great Wall of
China. The Great Wall of China is the longest structure ever built. The Wall starts in the northern part
of China, then along the Pacific Coast, and ends in the Gobi Desert. The Great Wall of China runs for
about 5,500 miles. The Great Wall of China was changed over the years in the Qin Dynasty, Han
Dynasty, and Ming Dynasty. The Great Wall of China began in the Qin Dynasty. The northern
nomadic tribes began to envy riches of southern neighbors and raided them. The Chinese built
individual walls to keep the invaders out. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before Khan died, he conquered most of China. Genghis Khan s grandson, Kublai Khan, became the
Yuan Dynasty emperor in 1260. After Kublai Khan died, the Chinese saw their chance to regain
control of their country. Different Chinese rebel groups worked on surprise attacks and worked hard to
overthrow Mongol authority. The Mongols were finally driven out of China by Zhu Yuanzhang and he
became the first emperor of the Ming Dynasty and took the name of Hongwu (DuTemple 58). Most of
what we see now was constructed during the Ming. Nearly everything built before the Ming was run
down by the time the Ming came into power. The Ming emperors
Bause 4 worked on rebuilding and expanding the Great Wall of China for the next 276 years (Allan,
76 77). This is how the Great Wall was transformed over the Qin Dynasty, Han Dynasty, and the Ming
Dynasty. The Great Wall still stands today. The wall, today, is used a tourist attraction instead of being
used for defensive purposes. The Great Wall has been restored even after the Ming Dynasty. Today,
the Great Wall stretches for 5,500

  • 2. Dismissal Without Cause Dismissal With or Without Cause There are two main types of dismissal: dismissal with cause, and dismissal without cause. Dismissal with cause requires some kind of serious misconduct on your part as the employee. If you steal from your employer or violate legal company rules, your employer is well within their right to fire you without notice, and they are not required to offer you a severance package. This type of dismissal without notice is only legal if your employer can prove that your misconduct was so serious that it was reasonable to let you go on the spot. Often, this means repeated attempts by your employer to correct your behavior or a serious breach of your employment contract. Dismissal without cause happens when your employer ... They can t let you go for discriminatory reasons (including your gender, ethnicity, pregnancy, or any other factor outlined in the Human Rights Code) or for speaking up about your rights according to the Employment Standards Act or the Occupational Health and Safety Act. If you believe you have been illegally dismissed, you should consult a lawyer right away. You may have the right to be reinstated in your position or have the ability to pursue remedies not available in other wrongful dismissal cases. Wrongful Dismissal If you believe your dismissal was handled incorrectly, a wrongful dismissal action is the only leverage you have to negotiate a fair severance package that compensates you for the working notice you should have received. One very important thing to note is that you have a duty to mitigate the damages caused by the termination of your employment. In other words, you have an obligation to try to find other work in your field after losing your job. It s important to document your job search so you can prove that you ve taken reasonable steps to find comparable employment while awaiting the result of your wrongful dismissal action. The purpose of fair notice is to give you enough time to find another job, so if you do find work before your fair notice time is up, any earnings you receive will be deducted from your final ... • 3. Necrophilia Cults As defined by the American Heritage Dictionary a cult is 1) a system or community of religious worship and ritual 2a) a devoted attachment to, or extravagant admiration for, a person, principle, etc., especially when regarded as a fad b) the object of such attachment 3) a group of followers; (Aronoff, 2000). Some of the major features of cults as described by Whitsett et al. include family dynamics within cults, child abuse, health issues, and moral development. A common/devastating repercussion of cult participation is losing complete control by subjecting to leadership. Cult leaders are so controlling they typically curtail and demolish relationships between families when they feel their loyalty is being threatened. Members of cults are denied independence and all parental authority is diminished. Cults tear families apart, take children away from their parents, and demand complete control over all of the members. An alarming ramification of participating in a cult is that the members are regularly facing feelings of extreme shame and humiliation, in the community and at home. Children are forced into feelings of humiliation and parental abandonment so that in turn they search for someone to look up to and admire, in this case the cult leader. While, the adults within the cult are shamed into feeling less ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Essay on pop culture Introduction Technological advancements the last decades have contributed to the creation of a globalized era, with the English language as a common denominator, as the major language spoken between those who do not share any language. Globalization have made it possible for an extreme output of popular culture that has mainly origins of English speaking countries with U.S.A. as the main exporter of popular culture through music, movies, television etc. In this essay I explore the positive aspects that using popular music in the classroom might potentially have. Teachers might feel a general unwillingness toward incorporating popular culture in the classroom and there are often several issues that create this point of view. teachers might not understand the contemporary popular culture of today s youth and therefore project negative thoughts on what is popular, expressing ideas such as; children who are more interested in popular culture are not as bright as those who prefer reading. Teachers might also regard pop culture as contra productive for student s creativity and reason that they get enough of input in their spare time (Lambirth, 2003). However, the teachers are not those who can fully take the blame for not wanting to incorporate popular culture in the classroom. The teachers are caught between the two strong influences, of the popular culture industry and those who create the educational policies (Lambirth, 2003) It might therefore be unfair to lay blame on teachers for not wanting to take a gamble on their jobs and career by using methods that does not follow their curriculum. • 9. The War On Terror ( Wot ) The War on Terror (WoT), also known as the Global War on Terrorism (GWOT), refers to the international military campaign that started after the September 11 attacks on the United States.[47] U.S. President George W. Bush first used the term War on Terror on 20 September 2001.[47] The Bush administration and the western media have since used the term to argue a global military, political, legal, and conceptual struggle against both organizations designated terrorist and regimes accused of supporting them. It was originally used with a particular focus on countries associated with Islamic terrorism organizations including al Qaeda and like minded organizations. In 2013, President Barack Obama announced that the United States was no longer pursuing a War on Terror, as the military focus should be on specific enemies rather than a tactic. He stated, We must define our effort not as a boundless Global War on Terror , but rather as a series of persistent, targeted efforts to dismantle specific networks of violent extremists that threaten America. [48] The phrase War on Terror has been used to specifically refer to the ongoing military campaign led by the U.S., UK and their allies against organizations and regimes identified by them as terrorist, and excludes other independent counter terrorist operations and campaigns such as those by Russia and India. The conflict has also been referred to by names other than the War on Terror. In 1984, the Reagan Administration used ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I never experienced a loss of someone I loved, and as I look up at the boy in the baseball cap I was longing to know how loss felt. I longed to feel the worst kind of pain, not for the pleasure, but to know that no feeling in the world can be worse. Unexpectedly arriving and disrupting my days with excruciating feelings of terror and pain were daymares. For the purpose of this paper, we will take an in depth look at three of these such market structures. Monopoly and Monopolistic competitive market along with Oligopoly. We will look at how and why these markets exist in conjunction with the advantages to the producer and the disadvantages to the consumer. As we research Monopoly in detail, compare the monopolistic competitive market and Oligopoly, we will also discuss the Gas market in relation to these types of markets. To begin to understand monopolies, we have researched several things. Why do they exist? What do they do, in response to the economy? Although, we don t see many monopolies now due to antitrust laws to prevent monopolies from forming, there are natural monopolies. There are several reasons why monopolies exist. These are known as barriers to entry. Scarce resources with one producer can limit the number of other firms joining the market as competition. Increasing returns to scale prevents smaller firms from entering an industry because as output rises average total cost falls. This in turn enables these producers to grow and tolerate the monopoly. This is now where a natural monopoly is formed. A single producer of an industry has a large cost advantage over other smaller firms, if they existed in the industry. A natural monopoly includes local water, gas and electricity providers. These ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Correlation Between Weber s Law And Visual Perception Abstract The purpose of this study was to measure and record the just noticeable difference (or JND) thresholds of random participants using their visual based perception and to replicate and confirm Weber s Law. Through this four level single factor experiment, these participants were asked to compare two lines which were flashed to them on a computer screen. Their objective at that point was to choose which line was longer of the two that were shown, and this was repeated 160 times at four different levels of line sizes: one inch, two inch, three inch, and four inch with each level having 40 trials. Once the JND values were obtained, they were then statistically analyzed and evaluated in terms of whether or not they were consistent with Weber s Law. Collection along with the analysis of the data were all done on the University of California, Irvine campus inside the Social Science Laboratory. Based on the results, we can conclude there is a relationship between Weber s Law and visual perception, but this may not always be true. During the 19th century, popular experimental based psychologist named Ernst Weber developed a theory on human perception, proclaiming that for a difference to be perceived in two stimuli, they must differ by a certain minimum value, or in other words, a just noticeable difference, also known as difference limen or difference threshold. Reality television has become more about mindless watching and creating the most unrealistic environment possible, rather than creating a show for an important purpose. Today, shows like Beauty and the Geek, Big Brother, and every other reality show fit into this mold, but when viewed critically lessons appear. In the case of TV today, reality shows depict an altered reality because of the unrealistic situations this genre presents. Firstly, Beauty and the Geek claimed they conducted the ultimate social experiment, and yet is still considered as a show in the genre of reality TV. Since Beauty and the Geek subsisted as a social experiment, altered variables, such as the environment, influenced participants to conduct themselves in a different way than how they would behave on a regular basis in reaction to the stimuli the show provided. The end of the Cold War that created peaceful space and flourishing Chinese economic growth influenced the speed of military modernization and shifted its focus on protection of maritime resources and defending of territorial issue in the south and southeast (Ross 2009: 55; Storey 2008: 115). Meanwhile in southern part of its territory several maritime dispute disputes began to attract China s attention. During early decade of 1990s, China had just ratified United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982 (UNCLOS 1982) in 1992. The ratification is going to allow China to claim 200 nautical miles as its exclusive economic zone (EEZ) and could exploit oil and gas located in South China Sea basin. Beside that, the growing tension because of Taiwan s independence in 1990 had significantly altered China focus to the South and modernization its military force. Geopolitical nature of the potential maritime conflict in the south had forced China to modernize its naval power (Storey 2008: 115). This could be considered as changing posture of China s military capability from cumbersome continental power towards more modern and dynamic naval power in responding future political and military dispute in the southern part of its territory (Ross 2009: 56). • 43. The Food Of Food Industry Additives in Food People used to appreciate wholesome, nutritious food. These days, the American diet is comprised of primarily processed food. Is health being sacrificed for convenience? What is really in the food that Americans eat? Are all the preservatives and additives hurting consumers more than they are helping? There are definitely benefits to the modern food industry; however, consumers want to be sure that these benefits outweigh the risks associated with this new food technology. Food manufacturers seem to be doing well short term, but consumers do not want to suffer in the long run from all these unnatural additives and processes. These additional chemicals in food may be causing diseases without us realizing it. People spend so much time investigating which TV, car or even house to buy. Certainly, they should spend as much time if not more considering what to fill their shopping carts with at the grocery store. Even though additives help increase food production and food preservation, people should be careful about what they eat and try to avoid unnecessary additives because they are unnatural, unhealthy and compromise the wholesomeness of the food. Literature Review Laliberte (n.d.) presented the benefits and risks associated with additives in food and explained that the new food technology is so popular because it is inexpensive, effective, and convenient. People enjoy the ease of ready made food and the advertising makes it all the more appealing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Pros And Cons Of Dynamite Films As you go through life, you will meet a lot of people that do not like the same things that you do. This is a personal preference difference, and it s normal. But anybody who says that they don t like Napoleon Dynamite is a fucking sociopath asshole who needs to be put to the sword. These people do not understand humor, and they are worthless. Gamboh 2016 Film is my passion. I thoroughly enjoy watching and analyzing movies finding the pros and cons. In film there are many different pieces that have to go together in order to make a movie work including: cinematography, the actual image and how it is displayed; sound, the score, sound effects and overall how clear it is to understand what actors are saying; the editing, how all the individual clips are put together; and dialogue and story, what the actors are saying and what the movie is about. A bad movie probably has done most of these poorly. A good movie may be lacking in one of these departments. A great movie has all bases covered, however, there are exceptions on this depending on personal preference. Some movies might end up being controversial. Some may love it. Same may hate it. But one must still appreciate a movie for all the hard work and effort that has been poured into it. My favourite example of a polarizing movie is Jared Hess 2004 movie Napoleon Dynamite. ... An Ethical Analysis In an effort to thwart United States airstrikes against key areas, such as Ramadi, The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, commonly known as ISIS, are increasing the use of human shields. ISIS terrorists are strapping innocent civilians, especially women and children, to the front of their tanks and using them as escorts to circumvent the North Atlantic Treaty Organization s rules of engagement. (Brennan, 2015) The United States goal is to restrict the amount of collateral damage, which is code for restricting the amount of innocent lives lost due to United States bombs. If the U.S. and our allies refuse to kill innocent people the terrorists will continue to kill soldiers. If the U.S. and our Allies begin to purposefully kill innocent people to advance our cause, how is the U.S. different from ISIS? Why should NATO move forward and kill these innocent people? . Dror Dagan, a disabled veteran, tells the story of how he ended up in a wheel chair to the Federalist, a conservative online newspaper: When we burst into the house and quickly scanned the rooms, the wife of the terrorist, a senior Hamas member, fainted.
