Habeas Corpus Essay
The Right of Habeas Corpus and the War on Terror
Introduction
September 11, 2001 changed the United States forever. This disastrous attack on the Pentagon and the
twin towers at the World Trade Center destroyed the lives of thousands of people. Over 3,000 people
were killed, including hundreds or firefighters and policemen, many of which were never found. The
attackers were Islamic terrorists from Arab nations.
The war on terror declared by the Bush Administration, had become one of the most important issues
in the United States during that time and still is today. However, it did not always protect those that
needed to be protected. There was the detention of potential suspects who were held without the right
to habeas corpus. There ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
S. Constitution. The habeas corpus has only been officially suspended twice since its inception. In
1861, President Abraham Lincoln suspended the habeas corpus in Maryland and some Midwestern
states due to riots and threats that Maryland would secede from the Union. The second suspension of
habeas corpus took place in the early 1870 s when President Ulysses S. Grand responded to civil
rights violations by the Ku Klux Klan (The Rutherford Institute).
Since the September 11th terrorists attacks, President Bush attempted several times to revoke the writ
of habeas corpus. An example would be denying the detainees of Guantanamo Bay habeas corpus by
granting him the power to be able to revoke habeas corpus for all citizens. By passing the Military
Commissions Act of 2006, habeas corpus was eliminated by allowing non citizen enemy combatants
to be held indefinitely in a military prison without access to a lawyer (The Rutherford Institute). Since
that time the denial of habeas corpus has been challenged.
Habeas Corpus and the War on Terror
After the terrorist s attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001, the Bush administration launched the
war on terror. The terms illegal combatant and enemy combatant became popular during this
campaign. Bush wanted to let the world know that if you are not with the United States then it was
assumed you were on the side of the terrorists. The Administration s policies and methods were
questioned the Patriot Act was

RFID System Analysis
Conventional passive RFID tags contain no internal power source, but instead harvest power from the
RF signal transmitted by the RFID reader system. RFID readers provide sufficient power in the
transmitted RF carrier signal to energize the tag circuitry through the coupled tag antenna. For a high
frequency RFID system, for example, the wavelength of the
13.56 MHz carrier is 22.12 m. The typical parallel resonant circuit of a tag antenna comprises the
inductance, resistance, and capacitance of the antenna loop (see Fig. 5) with resonant frequency.
Frequency = ଵ

In passive RFID systems, readers communicate with tags by modulating the amplitude, phase, or
frequency of the carrier, according to the specific design of the RFID ... Show more content on

Ultrasonic sensor is used to measure the distance between the vehicles and determine their speed
based on the mathematical formula: Average speed =

ሺtଶ−tଵሻ km/hr. The above formula gives us the average speed of the vehicle by taking the
parameters for the microcontroller from two different points. The data (distance and time) is subjected
to linear mathematical calculations to obtain the required entity. The equivalent code for the above
mathematical formulae and determining the distance between the two vehicles is shown in code box 1.
The data obtained via ultrasonic sensor are processed by the microcontroller and the resultant is being

Design And Design Of Design Essay
Design and build is a generic term describing a procurement route in which the main contractor is
appointed to design and construct the works, as opposed to a traditional contract, where theclient
appoints consultants to design the development and then a contractor is appointed to construct the
works. Design and build can appeal to clients as it gives a single point of responsibility for delivering
the entire project. Some clients however consider it is only appropriate for simple projects,
wheredesign quality is not the main consideration. The contractor can either be appointed to carry out
all of the design work, or if the client wishes to have greater influence over the design, a concept
design and outline (or performance)specification can be prepared by a consultants employed by the
client, and then the contractor is appointed to complete the design and carry out the construction. The
contractor may use their own in house designers to design the building, or they can appoint consultant
designers, or the client s designers can be employed by the contractor to complete the design (either
by novation or consultant switch). If the contractor is appointed at the outset of the project (so that
they can contribute to the development of the design from the beginning), they may be appointed
through a two stage process. In the first stage, the contractor is selected on the basis of a fee,
preliminaries, overheads and profit. They then work with the design team (who may be

Bigger Identity Quotes With Page Numbers
In the first chapter of the book, Bigger is unable to accept his behavior, aside from a few instances
when he justifies his actions out of fear. However, in Book Two, he begins reflect his identity and
consciousness. At the beginning of the novel, Bigger is aware of the societal line and struggles under
the oppression of white authority. This white authority angers Bigger which causes him to think
irrationally. For example, Bigger and his gang regularly robbed blacks in his neighborhood; however
the one time he thought about robbing a white man, a cloud of fear strangled him. Bigger never
crossed this white vs. black line until fear drives him to kill Mary by accident. Though this action
Bigger now has a purpose in life which is to survive. It was as though he had an obscure but deep debt
to fulfil to himself in accepting the deed (pg 106). Bigger now feels the sense of clear purpose he
lacked prior to killing Mary. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To Bigger, the deliberate murder of a white woman represents the ultimate rebellion against the
crushing authority of whiteness. Since Bigger convinces himself that he did not kill Mary accidentally,
but rather he consciously challenged and defeated the unfair oppression he faces. Bigger says he had
killed a white girl they loved and regarded as their symbol of beauty made him feel the equal of them,
like a man who somehow cheated, but had now evened the score (pg 164). Certain that Bigger does
not have the ability to determine life and death, he feels that he now possesses a power that white
America has used against him since his birth. In Bigger s act of justification, his alleged victory is an
act of design; he believes that killing Mary gives him a new life, one that he actually controls he felt a
certain sense of power, a power born of a latent capacity to live (pg

The Pros And Cons Of The Death Penalty In The United States
The death penalty is still in use in the united states. The state with the most executions is Texas with a
total of 545 from 2017 to the year 1976 (Number of Executions, 2017). The death penalty is a very big
debate. There are many reasons why and why people do and don t like the death penalty.
States With Death Penalty
There are currently 31 states with the death penalty. The states are Alabama, Louisiana, Pennsylvania,
Arizona, Mississippi, South Carolina, Arkansas, Missouri, South Dakota, California, Montana,
Tennessee, Colorado, Nebraska, Texas, Florida, Utah, Nevada, Georgia, New hampshire, Virginia,
Idaho, North Carolina, Washington, Indiana, Ohio, Wyoming, Kansas, Oklahoma, Kentucky, And
Oregon. All of these states have lethal injection. Three have hangings. Eigth have electrocution. Three
have lethal gas. Two have firing squad. There are eighteen states without the death penalty. The states
are Alaska, Michigan, Vermont, Connecticut, Minnesota, West Virginia, Delaware, New Jersey,
Wisconsin, Hawaii, New Mexico, Illinois, New York, Iowa, North Dakota, Maine, Rhode Island,
Maryland Massachusetts.Maryland was the most recent to abolish the death penalty in the year 2013.
Cons of Death Penalty.
Their a many cons to the death penalty. One is that during lethal injection does not always work and
by that I mean that many things could go wrong. A few things are that they always can t find a vein.
This happens because heroin and drug users, their veins go deep because of the drug abuse. Also not
always the drugs injected work the the inmate could stay awake and see and feel everything. This is
very painful if you didn t know. According to the New Republic a inmate named Angel Diaz was
sentenced to the capital punishment by lethal injection. The execution went completely wrong. The IV
was inserted incorrectly and that cost the vein to burst. Diaz skin started to turn black and parts of his
skin turned pink. Diaz started to ooze a pinkish liquid. Diaz suffered a painful death and that went
against the 8th amendment cruel and unusual punishment. Also in cases there was hate or the want for
revenge so there was bias and inmates were given an unfair trial. Also racism has been a factor
because in a

The Consequences Of The Treaty Of Versailles
In 1919, the Allied victors in World War I met at the Paris Peace Conference to set the peace terms for
the defeated Central Powers. The Allies created the peace terms in the hope to create and maintain
world peace. However, the Allies and Central Powers realized that the peace terms stated in the Treaty
of Versailles did not help to maintain world peace. When the Allies created the Treaty they designed it
in a bad way. Rather than specific, the Treaty didn t make much sense because it was wordy. John
Maynard Keynes an English economist attended the Paris Peace Conference and wrote the book The
Economic Consequences of Peace in which he stated his opinion about the Treaty. In Thornstein
Veblen s review of The Economic Consequences of Peace he argues that Keynes withheld information
about the consequences that the Treaty would cause. If Keynes would not have withheld any
information the economic downfall would not have happened. Keynes failed to include the
consequences of the Treaty in his analysis though, and failed to influence the Allies at the Paris Peace
Conference. In Keynes analysis of the Treaty he did not include the consequence that the Bolshevism
would come to an end. At the Paris Peace Conference the Great Powers only agreed to eliminate the
Bolshevism, other than that the Great Powers could not agree on anything. They knew that it would be
difficult to eliminate the Bolshevism in Soviet Russia, but the Great Powers thought it had to be done

The Ultimate Nature of Matter
The Ultimate Nature of Matter
The theory of quantum mechanics has divided the atom into a number of fundamental sub atomic
particles. Although the physicist has shown that the atom is not a solid indivisible object, he has not
been able to find a particle which does possess those qualities. Talk of particles, though, is misleading
because the word suggests a material object. This is not the intention for the use of the word in
quantum physics. Quantum particles are, instead, representations of the actions and reactions of forces
at the sub atomic level. In fact, physicists are less concerned with the search for a material particle
underlying all physical objects and more interested in explaining how nature works. Quantum theory

I could also visit Dulwich College and perceive the building itself. By comparing my view with
Pissaro s painting I can see enough similarities to assume that we perceived the same public neutral
object. Consequently, these objects must exist independently of the minds that perceive them.
From the physicist s viewpoint, matter is whatever exists from a neutral objective standpoint, and is
independent of any conscious subject. In materialist terms matter would be a public neutral object.
However, it is arguable whether the different forms of objects we perceive can be simply termed as
different forms of matter. It is possible that matter may be an ultimate public neutral object which
underlies the public neutral objects which we perceive as things in the world. Materialism allows
matter its independence of the mind, but it is still no closer to explaining what matter is. Before we
move on to other metaphysical theories, let us first consider an attack on the idea of matter to see if
things become any clearer.
Klempner puts forward such an attack in Metaphysics unit 11. Our experience of the world is only as
perceptions in the mind. We cannot experience anything directly, therefore, we cannot experience the
ultimate reality directly, but only as perceptions in the mind. A consequence of this belief is that my
experiences of other people are also only as perceptions in my mind. To avoid falling into a solipsist
belief, I can recognise that others have their own

Comparing Wildung s Eve And Eve Baldung
Endlessly, Baldung creates another Adam and Eve painting on a panel in 1530s and continues the
concept between original sin and the sexual fallenness of all humankind. In this latest piece, both
Adam and Eve stare outward toward the beholder with a mischievous look. It seems as if both of the
figures want the audience to feel the sensuality between the two figures and purposely drives the
viewer towards original sin. By grasping onto Eve s breast, Adam directs the attention to her sexual
desire. Moreover, the sheer veil across her midsection draws more attention to her genital and Eve is
completely aware of all the gaze that are upon her, which in fact, her expression shows that she is
enjoying all of the lustful attention she is getting. As

Julius Caesar Ethos Pathos Logos
Ethos, pathos and logos influence every part of our lives from the time we wake up to the moment we
fall asleep. These three advertising tactics are also the pillars of political speeches and other rhetorical
media. In the play The Tragedy of Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare, ethos, pathos and logos are
used to persuade many of the characters views on the conspirators plot and Caesar s subsequent death.
My independent speech, Tear Down this Wall, was given by Ronald Reagan on June 12, 1987 in
Berlin, Germany. This speech was given during the Cold War, which separated the Democratic from
Communist countries. Reagan s objective was to convince Mr. Gorbachev, the leader of Communist
Soviet Union to tear down the wall separating East and West Berlin. Both of these texts use ethos,
pathos and logos to convince their audience that their point of view is ... Show more content on

This is one of the most notable uses of rhetoric in Tear Down This Wall. Reagan states,t [that he] finds
in Berlin a message of hope, even in the shadow of this wall, a message of triumph . This quote is a
powerful example of pathos because it validated the dreams of so many people, the hope for freedom.
The wall itself not only was a military boundary, but it also separated families and friends. Reagan s
use of pathos was so powerful in this speech because of the hate and oppression the wall symbolized
for so many years. TRANSITION In Marc Antony s funeral speech he calls Caesar s stab wounds the
unkindest cut of them all. In this line he creates an emotional connection with the crowd. Through that
connection he is able to impart a feeling of distrust towards Brutus, furthering the crowds agreement
with his argument. Reagan uses a similar tactic in his speech, several times he addresses specific
groups of people in German. By speaking to the people in their native language Reagan wanted to
show that he respects their culture and is willing to spend time

My Home Culture Essay
Has My Home Culture Prepared Me for Work Life Culture?
By Drew Jenkins U5880443
Powerful tools include the use of coercion, threats, punishment, and any other means necessary to
achieve teamwork. Dr. Clayton Christiansen describes how it can be used to mold children as well as
in a corporation. In my parents house, this was their choice when my siblings and I were out of line. It
would usually start with a series of threats. When threats were not taken seriously, it would be
followed by immediate punishment. Dr. Christiansen in his HBR article, How Will You Measure Your
Life? explains that these tools shaped a culture with some significant traits. The three traits developed
from my home culture are dependability, integrity, and perseverance. Being dependable is a great trait
for my work life culture. It was established through a series of constant responsibility placed on me by
my parents. My eldest brother was always at work, and would not get back till early in the morning.
This caused the responsibilities of him to fall to me. In a household of nine you really had to pull your
own weight, plus any excess that could relieve stress off my parents. It was the consistent need to help
out with younger siblings that caused a birth of dependence. In other words, every action I made was
no longer just about myself, but for also the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

group address recurrent problems. And culture defines the priority given to different types of
problems. So I will have will have to wait and see how I handle a situation in my work life

their investment will be a strong motivation to the South Africa economy, it will make more and more

Physiology Of The Ear
Introduction
The ear is a combination of different organs and body parts that in conjunction allow us to hear. It is a
sensitive piece of anatomy that can easily be abused, different frequencies at certain amplitudes
through out our audible and inaudible ranges can slowly or very quickly damage our ability to
perceive audio, even through something as simple as listening to your headphones mildly to loud. This
damage can be present in many different forms each with variable extremities.
Physiology of the Ear
The ears previously mentioned are a collaboration of different very small and delicate organs and
body parts. The first and most recognisable part of the ear is the only visible section, the Auricle,
Pinna or outer ear, this works as the receptor for audio and works quite on the contrary to the horn of a
gramophone, it s larger surface area allows for the capturing of sound waves and then funnels the
vibrations in through the ear cannel to the other parts of the ear (Mackenna and Callander, 1997). The
next piece of anatomy to receive the acquired sound waves is the tympanic membrane or the eardrum,
this is stretched indirectly across the end of the ear canal, it operates as the main sound receptacle,
when sound waves hit it s surface it vibrates, which then causes the ossicles; the combination of the
malleus, stapes and the incus, located and attached to the eardrum transmits the sound to the vestibular
window, two muscles then modulate the

Processed Foods Vs. U.s. No Good Deed Goes Unpunished
Processed Foods vs U.S.
No good deed goes unpunished. Today the world tends to depend on and live off of processed foods
that are typically produced from genetically modified organisms or GMOs. The foods that people love
to snack on are slowly changing the health of the population of the United States. These GMO packed
tasty foods are cheap and readily available. Food and Drug Association also referred to as the FDA
does not classify GMOs as food(Pollan,2001). These foods are accessible at almost every store in the
United States causing the rate of consumption to increase. The easy accessibility to these foods is
causing the people of the US to become more obese, especially children. Obesity rates continue to rise
and don t seem to be stopping. Growing children tend to have multiple unhealthy snacks throughout
the course of a day. Lower and middle class citizens tend to buy the cheaper unhealthy processed
foods. People are consuming these accessible tasty snacks in copious amounts and are becoming
obese. While processed foods are less expensive and more readily available, the obesity rate will
continue to rapidly grow until processed foods are cut out of the daily diet of America.
Processed foods are becoming more readily available due to convenience. The term processed food
applies to any food that has been altered from its natural state in some way, either for safety reasons or
convenience (Eating Processed Foods). An example of a processed food would be

Managing multicultural teams
Cultural differences create obstacles in front of the effective work. Different cultures and different
backgrounds need special manager skills. It is not enough that the manager has the general managing
skills: communication skills, problem solving skills, conflict resolution and time management skills.
They have to be aware and be able to handle the different communication styles, different
backgrounds and motivations behind the acts. They have to solve the ocurrent cultural conflicts and
misunderstandings.
The first task of the team leader to understand the cultural issues. They have to recognize the cultural
causes of conflicts and obstacles that lead to less effective work. After identifying the problem the
manager can choose three different actions to resolve interpersonal tension (Behfar et al., 2006b):
Adaption
Adaption is possible when team member are willing to accept the cultural differences and they are
able to work around the clashes. In this case team members participate in the problem solving process
without the interaction of the team leader. Intervention
Intervention is needed when the problems are caused by fluency issues or prejudice or because of the

The Murder And Serial Killers
Okay, so when I was 18 years old, I worked at a department store as an overnight stock boy . I
practically slept during the day and woke up to go to work at night. However, right before heading out
to work, I remember watching late night reruns of the shows Forensic Files and Cold Case Files.
I don t know why but they kept me startled and entertained until I left for work. Since then for some
odd reason I ve found murderers and serial killers very enthralling. Particularly, from the very start, I
became more interested in the motives that caused those high profile murders, rather than the
murderers themselves.
From watching so much Forensic files, I ve seen all the successful acts of murder and the fails from
some of the world s most notorious killers. So, instead of keeping all this interesting knowledge

investigators whip out the luminol to probe the scene for blood traces, your ass will be covered.

A Safety Management System provides a systematic way to identify hazards and control risks while
maintaining assurance that these risk controls are effective.[3] SMS can be defined as:
a businesslike approach to safety. It is a systematic, explicit and comprehensive process for managing
safety risks. As with all management systems, a safety management system provides for goal setting,
planning, and measuring performance. A safety management system is woven into the fabric of an
organization. It becomes part of the culture, the way people do their jobs .[4]
There are three imperatives for adopting a safety management system for a business these are ethical,
legal and financial. There is an implied moral obligation placed on an employer to ensure that work
activities and the place of work to be safe, there are legislative requirements defined in just about
every jurisdiction on how this is to be achieved and there is a substantial

Sufism Is The Meaning Of Mysticism
INTRODUCTION TO SUFISM
The term Sufism is a very broad, paradoxical term because it has many connotations placing it within
the wider sphere of polemics is a somewhat difficult activity. From the view of Islamic theologians,
tradionalists and Non Islamic scholars have much debated the areas of Islam, Sufism and mysticism.
In this essay, the meaning of Sufism and the meaning of Mysticism, and whether the two complement
each other or whether they are in fact, complete opposite. It will also be discussed whether Sufism has
a Mystical element if it fits into Islamic religion. An analysis of what Sufism means to a Non Muslim
reader will also be examined and how a Non Muslim reader views Sufism in the modern world of
today. So what is meant by the term mystical? The word itself is derived from the Greek ... Show more

A very lucid description would be something of a spiritual reality pr not of this world which could be
described as having some kind of communication with God or a divine being.
What is meant by Sufism? As mentioned in the introduction, Sufism is a difficult word to employ,
because first and foremost to understand whether it is a mystical reality or not, and secondly to define
what it is in its actual sense has yet to be given as a definitive answer. For different individuals,
Sufism means different things. For Alan Godlas, the author of Sufism has many paths has said that
Sufism is defined by its adherents to be that inner mystical dimension is Islam. For others such as
Anne Marie Schimmell as a Non Muslim academic and one who wrote extensively on Islamic
Mysticism, Such is the case with Sufism, the generally accepted name for Islamic Mystiscm. Yet for
the sake of brevity, Sufism is viewed to be either the path that one walks on to be free of all sins, or to
gain a closer relationship with an ultimate reality, which is God. In its early stages of development,
Sufism referred to nothing but the internationalization of Islam. According to

Bureaucratic Regimes And Political Politics
The relationship between bureaucratic authoritarian regimes and any/all their political opposition is
not one that is harmonious with respect to social order and government functioning. These two parties
often attempt to obstruct the other. The regime typically explores ways to eliminate all opposition
from political society, and political society in turn attempts to discredit the regime in the eyes of civil
society.
One common way the regime eliminates political opposition is by separating political society from
civil society. Political society alone cannot effectively challenge the regime as it does not have the
means to interrupt state functioning and increase the cost of oppression. One way they are able to
divide the two societies is propagating the people into believing that politicians are all corrupt and do
not truly have the interests of the people at heart.1 Bureaucratic authoritarian regimes commonly rely
on bonapartism in order to gain power and keep political and civil society divided. In order to achieve
this effect, the military offers the masses protection from communism in exchange for popular support
in their bid for power. Such was the case in Chile, where the bourgeoisie are so worried about
communism that they supported Pinochet s bid for power. Such was their fear (and by extension lack
of faith in the current government/ political society to keep them safe from communism) of being
dispossessed of their property in status, like what happened to the

Hamlet Madness In Hamlet
When reading Shakespeare s Hamlet as a class, the first thing that most teachers or professors point
out is the argument/idea of sanity, specifically Hamlet s sanity. I believe that Hamlet is, in fact,
feigning his madness. What I do not know is if I believe this because it is what I was taught or if I
came up with the idea myself based on my own interpretation. When I was taught Hamlet there was
no argument it was just fact that he was faking his madness. Because of my confusion, I came to find
that it may be interesting take out of the play any moment in which Hamlet makes the audience aware
that he is only pretending that to be mad. I want to take out any proof that his madness isn t real. The
argument for legitimate madness is always ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In choosing to believe the ghost, he decides that he must seek revenge on his father s murderer and
will allow nothing to get in his way. From this moment on, Hamlet heads in a downward spiral and we
can track him losing his mind if we just erase the lines that express his plan to act like his is doing so.
These cuts begin from the moment when Hamlet says that he is going To put an antic disposition on
(Act I Scene V). Taking out this one line could change the play entirely. Most of the lines in which he
speaks of this part of his revenge plot following his original declaration of it are moments in which he
is attempting to explain that he isn t actually insane. By removing this one, small line we effectively
make it easier to argue that his madness isn t a part of his plot but it is an actual part of him. Without
having concrete proof before the madness starts that it is, in fact, planned how are we as an audience
supposed to trust him? Removing this line makes it so that the readers, and the other characters, are
entirely unaware of this part of his plan. He acts mad for a while before he mentions again that this is
his plan. The next time Hamlet discloses the part of his revenge plan is when he is speaking to
Guildenstern in Act II Scene II, and tells him that his uncle father and aunt mother are deceived and

Why Are We Wash Ourselves With Toxic Chemicals
Are We Washing Ourselves With Toxic Chemicals? Do we ever think about our skin? It is the largest
organ of our body.
Our bodies are constantly exposed to toxic chemicals, poisons, sprays, plastics, processed food, stress
and there for we are becoming unhealthy.
We Eat With Our Skin.
The skin absorbs and eats whatever we put on it. Anything we rub on it or touches our skin can go
directly into the bloodstream.
This is why medicine in skin patches has become so popular over the years; the medications from the
patches absorb directly through the skin. In actual fact, anything you put on the skin can go directly in

All this makes sense when you consider skin ages as we age from oxidants and lousy nutrition,

Erasmus s Use Of Rhetoric In Sacrifice
During the Renaissance, there were seven subjects/skills that were considered essential for a free
person to know, known as the liberal arts. Among those seven is the art of persuasive speaking and
writing called rhetoric. Rhetoric became increasingly popular during this period and this could be seen
through a lot of Renaissance works such as in Letters of Catherine of Siena , Letters of Petrarch , and
Erasmus, Julius Excluded from Heaven. The three works all have one thing in common; it utilizes the
art of persuasion. However, due to the fact that the authors have different motives and backgrounds,
they ended up using different strategies to persuade their audiences. In Letters of Catherine of Siena ,
Catherine resorted to using the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He could not use the same technique as Catherine because, like Petrarch, he had a different motive
then her. While her purpose was to better the Catholic church, Erasmus s purpose was to expose the
wrongdoings of the church. Using the scare tactic in this situation would have not been appropriate
because instilling fear only works when you want someone to perform a certain action and by showing
them the consequences of not doing in they will be persuaded into doing it. However, in Erasmus s
case, he wants to persuade his audience into believing the church is corrupt. He also couldn t rely on
Petrarch s technique because although it would ve been persuasive, it was also risky. The Pope was a
very influential and powerful figure, therefore by explicitly exposing the him to the public, Erasmus
could ve been severely punished. However, by using satire, his crime will be less severe and yet he
could still get his point across the audience. In his pamphlet, Erasmus used mostly humor to criticizes
Pope Julius II. For example, on page four, Erasmus pointed out that the Pope had the belch and stink
like a man just come from a drunken debauch and fresh from the a fit of vomiting, (Erasmus, Julius
Excluded From Heaven, pg. 4). Through this, you can see that the tone of the dialogue is very light
and humorous. This strategy is the most effective in Erasmus s case because he is trying to reach out
to a broader audience than Petrarch and Catherine, therefore by making the tone less serious, it can
attract more attention. If Erasmus had made it too political then people would ve been less compelled
to read it because the content would ve dry and not as interesting. The dialogue had a lot of witty
comments in it such as when Genius exclaimed, Only listen to the bragging of the beast! as a response
to Julius talking about how he [brought] goodly sums into the papal

Great Smokey Fires
Day 1: I have arrived in Gatlinburg, Tennessee to help victims of the tragedies that have occurred
during the lethal fires spreading throughout the Great Smokey Mountains. The team and I have

fires continue to grow and roar at the innocent mountains that several claim home. Winds were up to
70 mph, forcing the fires to continue and spread throughout the forests.
Day 2: Our crew was up until midnight last night, exploring areas that the fires have left for dead. We
found some victims and gave them the supplies they needed before providing them shelter. No deaths
have yet been recorded from the fires. Several homes and important buildings have been destroyed
from the fires, such as, The Mystery Mansion. Staff from the Ripley s Aquarium of the Smokies, have

Santa Ana vs Brush Fire
The essay The Santa Ana by Joan Didion and Brush Fire by Linda Thomas are written very differently
about similar topics. On one hand we have the ominous, eerie and unexplainable feels of the power of
the winds by Didion and on the other hand, we have the optimistic and positivity of the winds from
Thomas. Both authors being native Californians have been writing many published pieces of literature
for years. Didion s purpose is to impress upon readers the idea that the wind themselves change the
way people act and react. She creates a dramatic tone in order to convey to her readers that the winds
have a mechanistic effect on people. Thomas s purpose points towards the positives ... Show more

Both authors succeeded at doing just that. Their use of terse and compound sentences to express
complicated and simple subjects creates a captivating syntax. In Thomas s piece, she uses many
different aspects to come to a conclusion of how positive these winds can be. She talks about the
beauty of the chaparral foliage to the winds, then moves on to the destruction caused by them and then
talks about watching the fire flick down the hillside with her friendly neighbors. Structured this way
the article, shows that even something as demonic as these winds have beauty. In contrast, Didion
wants to convey a message about the absolute darkness of the winds. Therefore, Didion starts off with
the uneasiness of the people and how they can feel it coming. She then uses about seven scientific
facts to explain the cynical effects of the winds and then move on to a dreadful fourteen days.
Structured this way, Didion focused on just the negatives of the winds, conveying her

Writers of the 1920 s Essay
Writers of the 1920 s
The 1920 s had many influential writers in literature. While reaching this time period it is almost
certain that the names William Faulkner, Earnest Hemingway, and F. Scott Fitzgerald will be found.
Each of the writers has their own personal style of writing and each one of the lives has influenced
what they write about to even the way they each portray their literature.
William Cuthbert Faulkner was born into a financially stable family from New Albany, Mississippi.

F. Scott Fitzgerald was an incredible writer. He often uses incidences from his life in his writings.
Fitzgerald fell in love with Zelda Sayre and married her. They lived all over the United States and
Europe.(Eble 22)
In his writings his life with Zelda is highly portrayed. In the writing of The Basil and Duke Lee
Stories there are a lot of similarities to his life. These stories are almost a diary of his life in a fictional
form.(Eble 22 24) The most popular of Fitzgerald s writings is The Great Gatsby. This is because
Fitzgerald s writing style had matured so much from his earlier works. The book offers great insight in
to his adult life, showing how truely unhappy he was. (Eble 86 88)
Each of these writers have contributed a great deal to American literature. Faulkner, Hemingway, and
Fitzgerald s lives had a great impact on their fiction. Through their writing, readers can begin to
understand the happenings of that decade. The twenties are always going to be remembered through
their works.

The Chorus Picking Sides In Sophocles Oedipus Rex
The Chorus: Picking Sides? In the second choral ode of Sophocles play Oedipus Rex, the chorus
seems to condemn the Theban citizens lack of respect for Delphi s oracles and the Gods. The chorus
thoroughly explains that the Gods themselves set forth the moral laws of the universe, and nobody
should dare to break these rules. The chorus noting that the father of these rules is greater than Time,
and ages not (46) emphasizes the Gods power and virtue. The phrases greater than Time and ages not
mimic repetition, and emphasize that the Gods will remains forever, and that no one defies the Gods
will with impunity. The chorus then discusses a possible punishment for one s disrespecting Gods. The
chorus saying that anyone who dare hold / no immortal power in awe / Will be caught up in a net of
pain (46) clearly stresses the importance of obeying the Gods. However, in the chorus description of
the Gods punishment, the chorus also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The chorus advice, From blasphemy stand apart / Else the crackling blast of heaven / Blows on his

The contrast between one blasphemous act and God s crackling blast, likely a euphemism for death,
portrays the interaction between human and God as unjust. The chorus description of the guilty man s
heart as desperate emphasizes God s harsh, merciless nature. As the chorus begins to doubt the Gods
method of dealing with iniquity, the chorus then begins to question whether or not the Gods are even
fit to rule humans. That the chorus ponders, Zeus, if indeed you are lord of all (47) clearly displays the
chorus challenging the Gods authority directly. Here, the chorus may wonder not only if Zeus rules
over all humans, but also what qualifies Zeus to rule all . Either way, both questioning the Gods
existence and doubting the Gods ability to rule disrespect the

Colonization Advantages And Disadvantages
However, the economic advantages to the colonist have been argued to come at the cost of the
economies of the colonies. Those that argue that colonisation was economically detrimental to the
colonies often point to the short term impact of deindustrialisation and the long term impacts of
inequality and the inability of colonies to pursue development policies, that the European powers had
on their colonies. Deindustrialisation of colonies was caused by the industrialisation of the European
powers which shifted the colonies comparative advantage from manufacturing to agriculture. In
addition to this, colonies had to export primary products to pay for capital imports form their
metropolitan state (Clark, 2007, p.315), further shifting their comparative advantage towards
agriculture as they increased their productivity in the primary sector to pay for more imports of
industrial goods. This source is an academic book and can be taken at face value to the author s use of

Being Human In Book I Of Nicomachean Morals

is what does it mean to be human?
There are a wide range of implications to being human. Being human means being an ordinary that
tries to understand its otherworldly presence. We are not human, we are basically being human. If we
were not to be conceived as people, we may have been conceived as creatures. In Book I of

prisoners. He done this by sharing food with them and leading them with will, as well as this he
organised secret church services. He tried to guide them through this catastrophe that had given many
people a lot of depression. He was their hope. He was trying to set an example that God loved him and
everyone even in such a place. Father Kolbe once said that every man had his own aim in life. For
most of the people it was to return home to their family. His was to give his life for the good of
people. Father Kolbe had a very extreme experience. He was a hero to the people of that camp as well
as the hero to many surrounding concentration camps. He won their hearts and souls. It was later that
a Polish Bishop wrote that the death and life of father Kolbe was

War for edification has not, and undoubtedly never will be vociferously professed. Humanity will

The Lamb Tone
In poems The Lamb and The Tyger William Blake uses contrasting tones to show the reader the truth
that life comes with both darkness as well as purity allowed by God. In the poem, The Tyger Blake
uses a dark tone showing the readers life s, deadly terrors (Blake 16). Through out the poem the words
used have a very dark tone such as, burning (1) a word that readers will associate with fire a very
destructive force that causes a sort of darkness for everyone involved. No person with a home that has
burned down is in a happy mood because they are going through a dark time in their lives. The
destruction associated with fire creates this very dark tone that Blake uses. The phrases, In what
distant deeps or skies/ Burnt the fire in thine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Throughout the poem, words like burning, distant, dread, fearful, deadly, terrors, and tears are used to
create a dark tone. Some words and phrases help show the reader the darkness that comes in life.
However, in his other poem, The Lamb the author uses words such as delight, softest, bright, tender,
and rejoice to create a innocent tone. Gave thee clothing of delight/ Softest clothing wooly and bright
(5 6). In using delight and bright the author creates a light tone, and in talking about a sheep, wooly
and bright the reader gets the impression of a pure, white sheep. White sheep are a symbol of purity;
the tone of these words then become pure. This tone gives the reader an idea of the purity and happier
side of life conflicting with the dark tones of Blake s other piece. By having these tones conflict,
Blake is showing the readers that life can be pure at times and dark at other times. In the last half of
the lamb, the poem gives God the credit for making lamb the readers know to be pure. This tells the
reader that Gods allows all things good or pure in life because he made this Little Lamb God bless

How Does the Director Try to Build Suspense and Scare the...
How does the director try to build suspense and scare the audience in the film Jaws?
The film Jaws, directed by Steven Spielberg, was created approximately 30 years ago. It tells the story
of a shark which attacks and kills numerous people off the north east coast of the USA in a small
holiday resort called Amity Island. The attacks took place around the 4th of July, which in America, is
similar to the British bank holiday. During this time, many Americans and tourists from abroad visit
resorts such as Amity Island for a summer vacation.
The director of the film, Steven Spielberg builds up fear of the shark using many different techniques.
One of these techniques is the use of music. Spielberg uses a non diegetic piece of music which ...

Again, as after the first attack on Chrissie, the audience can t believe how something so terrible is
happening when the mood set by the little boy is so calm and untroubled. This use of music and
contrasting emotions builds up tension and fear affecting the audience as it makes them feel confused,
as they can t understand how things can be so pleasant then suddenly so devastating.
Spielberg also exploits various camera techniques to build up fear and suspense in the film Jaws. For
example, during the second attack on Alex, a lot of different camera techniques and angles are being
used. The start of the scene is a tracking shot, showing Alex coming out of the sea and sitting next to
his mother on the beach. After some persuasion, his mother lets him have just 10 more minutes in the
water. Then a further tracking shot is used, as we follow Alex up the beach as he goes and gets his lilo.
The use of this camera angle, which focuses the audience s attention on Alex, immediately makes
them feel more attached to the character.
The next part of the scene shows Alex running into the sea on his lilo. The camera technique used for
this part is a medium shot from a reverse angle, showing him from behind. This camera angle builds
up fear as all the audience can see is Alex on his lilo and the bearing sea in front of him with no one
else in sight. This immediately makes the audience realise that Alex is vulnerable and that if

Football Vs Basketball Research Paper
Both football and basketball are highly populated sports in the United States of America, however,
they have vast amounts differences in the style of play. There can be lots of comparing and contrasting
the two sporting events based on the history, how they are played, who plays them, and any other
similarities and differences about the two sports.
The history of basketball began in 1891 in Springfield, Massachusetts by James Naismith, a Canadian
physical education instructor. Reason being is the fact basketball is a less injury prone sport compared
to football. The history of football started in the mid 18th century in Britain by the Father of Football,
Walter Camp. As time passed by, these sports became a thing at the collegiate level, then followed by
a professional level. Basketball proceeded from college to the ... Show more content on

For example, the game of basketball consists of a team of five people, versus another team of five
people. Both teams have opportunities to be on offense and defense and score points and score more
points. The same goes for football, except there are eleven people on a team for football, not five. The
winner of the game gets to count a win on their record and the opposing team takes a loss. Another
example consists of both sporting events use a ball for play, but the balls are shaped differently and
used differently. In football, the ball is shaped like an egg in a way, but with pointy edges. It s used to
be thrown, kicked, and caught. However, a basketball is in the shape of a sphere and is used to be
passed around, dribbled, and shot. Another similarity could be the shape of the field the events take
place on. Both a basketball court and a football field are rectangular in shape, yet have differences
because a court is indoors and a field is outdoor (not turf). There are numerous rules that apply to both
events, but many different rules apply to

various organizations. Marlee lives in the greater Los Angeles area with her husband, law enforcement

only character suitable for her personality, Dorothy. She later attended college and got a degree in
Criminal Justice, preparing for a real world career but continuing to perform throughout the Midwest
in pursuit of her dream of becoming an actress. After one of her performances, Marlee got an
opportunity to meet Henry Winkler, who would eventually become her mentor. Unashamed and not
intimidated by this famous actor, Marlee approached him and told him that she wanted to be an actor
as well. He encouraged her that she could be whatever she wanted to in life. All she had to do was
imagine it in her heart and her dreams would come true. I am sure that the Fonz had no idea how big
of an impact his words of encouragement would have on Marlee s life. That this young lady would be
the first Deaf actress to win an Academy Award for Best Actress at the age of 21. Not only did Marlee
become the first Deaf actress to win an Oscar for her performance of Sarah along side actor William

April 10, 2016 Determining pH
Introduction:
In this Lab report we will be using Red Cabbage extract as an indicator to determine the pH of
substances. The purpose of this experiment is to see if and how base and acids react. Indicators are
chemicals that change color depending on the pH solution that they are dissolved in. This experiment
will determine which items we use to determine ph. The pH of a solution indicates its acidity or
alkalinity. There is a ph. scale that determines if the items such as lemons or bleach are an acid or a
base. I have chosen to use red cabbage in this experiment so that I can know the range of the item that

film and mixed thoroughly and waited until I saw changes if there were any.
Results:
The results of my experiment were as follows the pH of 2 has a pink color and the ph. of 12 had a blue
color. As I go down the chart the pH turned darker as I got to 6 and higher. See the figure 1 for the
changes in the color as you go from a pH of 2 to 12. As I got to 10 it was still a green blue color.

Discussion:
I have found out that the any number below 7 is more acidic such as lemons and bananas. I have found
that in conducting this experiment that cabbage juice was more acidic when added to the Ph. of 6 or
less within the buffer solution. Greater with the more Alkaline. There is more acid which makes the
solution a red to pink color and then it goes to neutral then it go to green than to blue as the level gets

Personal Statement On Self Promotion
The self is constantly changing throughout our lifetimes. Every experience has the opportunity to
change how we will behave and think from then on. We discover our selves through different ways,
and every journey of discovery is unique for each person. Introspection, self promotion, self
verification, self esteem, as well as social comparisons all factor into how we view ourselves. When
we engage in introspection, we are taking a moment for ourselves to meditate upon who we think we
are. This can be challenging for some people. Asking close friends and family for their view is an
alternative to better understand who you are as a person. As everyone has his or her own personal
schema, our own one might be too clouded to properly view ourselves. Self promotion is one
technique that adolescents engage in order to boost their self image to other adolescents; adults use
this technique throughout their lives as well. It is frequently used at company functions, job
interviews, even at family reunions. No one wants to be that cousin. Self verification is also important
in the life of high school students. One student may agree with the alpha male or female that the item
of current inspection is lame or out of fashion simply to get an in with the head of the group. Self
esteem is the level of how we view ourselves. It is common to hear about this person or that person
having low self esteem or high self esteem. Their respective social standing seems to correlate with
their level of

  • 2. Habeas Corpus Essay The Right of Habeas Corpus and the War on Terror Introduction September 11, 2001 changed the United States forever. This disastrous attack on the Pentagon and the twin towers at the World Trade Center destroyed the lives of thousands of people. Over 3,000 people were killed, including hundreds or firefighters and policemen, many of which were never found. The attackers were Islamic terrorists from Arab nations. The war on terror declared by the Bush Administration, had become one of the most important issues in the United States during that time and still is today. However, it did not always protect those that needed to be protected. There was the detention of potential suspects who were held without the right to habeas corpus. There ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... S. Constitution. The habeas corpus has only been officially suspended twice since its inception. In 1861, President Abraham Lincoln suspended the habeas corpus in Maryland and some Midwestern states due to riots and threats that Maryland would secede from the Union. The second suspension of habeas corpus took place in the early 1870 s when President Ulysses S. Grand responded to civil rights violations by the Ku Klux Klan (The Rutherford Institute). Since the September 11th terrorists attacks, President Bush attempted several times to revoke the writ of habeas corpus. An example would be denying the detainees of Guantanamo Bay habeas corpus by granting him the power to be able to revoke habeas corpus for all citizens. By passing the Military Commissions Act of 2006, habeas corpus was eliminated by allowing non citizen enemy combatants to be held indefinitely in a military prison without access to a lawyer (The Rutherford Institute). Since that time the denial of habeas corpus has been challenged. Habeas Corpus and the War on Terror After the terrorist s attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001, the Bush administration launched the war on terror. The terms illegal combatant and enemy combatant became popular during this campaign. Bush wanted to let the world know that if you are not with the United States then it was assumed you were on the side of the terrorists. The Administration s policies and methods were questioned the Patriot Act was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. RFID System Analysis Conventional passive RFID tags contain no internal power source, but instead harvest power from the RF signal transmitted by the RFID reader system. RFID readers provide sufficient power in the transmitted RF carrier signal to energize the tag circuitry through the coupled tag antenna. For a high frequency RFID system, for example, the wavelength of the 13.56 MHz carrier is 22.12 m. The typical parallel resonant circuit of a tag antenna comprises the inductance, resistance, and capacitance of the antenna loop (see Fig. 5) with resonant frequency. Frequency = ଵ ଶπ√ሺ L_ଶ∗Cሻ Hz. In passive RFID systems, readers communicate with tags by modulating the amplitude, phase, or frequency of the carrier, according to the specific design of the RFID ... • 4. Design And Design Of Design Essay Design and build is a generic term describing a procurement route in which the main contractor is appointed to design and construct the works, as opposed to a traditional contract, where theclient appoints consultants to design the development and then a contractor is appointed to construct the works. Design and build can appeal to clients as it gives a single point of responsibility for delivering the entire project. Some clients however consider it is only appropriate for simple projects, wheredesign quality is not the main consideration. The contractor can either be appointed to carry out all of the design work, or if the client wishes to have greater influence over the design, a concept design and outline (or performance)specification can be prepared by a consultants employed by the client, and then the contractor is appointed to complete the design and carry out the construction. The contractor may use their own in house designers to design the building, or they can appoint consultant designers, or the client s designers can be employed by the contractor to complete the design (either by novation or consultant switch). If the contractor is appointed at the outset of the project (so that they can contribute to the development of the design from the beginning), they may be appointed through a two stage process. In the first stage, the contractor is selected on the basis of a fee, preliminaries, overheads and profit. They then work with the design team (who may be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Bigger Identity Quotes With Page Numbers In the first chapter of the book, Bigger is unable to accept his behavior, aside from a few instances when he justifies his actions out of fear. However, in Book Two, he begins reflect his identity and consciousness. At the beginning of the novel, Bigger is aware of the societal line and struggles under the oppression of white authority. This white authority angers Bigger which causes him to think irrationally. For example, Bigger and his gang regularly robbed blacks in his neighborhood; however the one time he thought about robbing a white man, a cloud of fear strangled him. Bigger never crossed this white vs. black line until fear drives him to kill Mary by accident. Though this action Bigger now has a purpose in life which is to survive. It was as though he had an obscure but deep debt to fulfil to himself in accepting the deed (pg 106). Bigger now feels the sense of clear purpose he lacked prior to killing Mary. ... Since Bigger convinces himself that he did not kill Mary accidentally, but rather he consciously challenged and defeated the unfair oppression he faces. Bigger says he had killed a white girl they loved and regarded as their symbol of beauty made him feel the equal of them, like a man who somehow cheated, but had now evened the score (pg 164). Certain that Bigger does not have the ability to determine life and death, he feels that he now possesses a power that white America has used against him since his birth. In Bigger s act of justification, his alleged victory is an act of design; he believes that killing Mary gives him a new life, one that he actually controls he felt a certain sense of power, a power born of a latent capacity to live (pg ... The state with the most executions is Texas with a total of 545 from 2017 to the year 1976 (Number of Executions, 2017). The death penalty is a very big debate. Cons of Death Penalty. Their a many cons to the death penalty. One is that during lethal injection does not always work and by that I mean that many things could go wrong. A few things are that they always can t find a vein. This happens because heroin and drug users, their veins go deep because of the drug abuse. Also not always the drugs injected work the the inmate could stay awake and see and feel everything. This is very painful if you didn t know. According to the New Republic a inmate named Angel Diaz was sentenced to the capital punishment by lethal injection. The execution went completely wrong. The IV was inserted incorrectly and that cost the vein to burst. Diaz skin started to turn black and parts of his skin turned pink. Diaz started to ooze a pinkish liquid. Diaz suffered a painful death and that went against the 8th amendment cruel and unusual punishment. Also in cases there was hate or the want for revenge so there was bias and inmates were given an unfair trial. Also racism has been a factor because in a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. The Consequences Of The Treaty Of Versailles In 1919, the Allied victors in World War I met at the Paris Peace Conference to set the peace terms for the defeated Central Powers. The Allies created the peace terms in the hope to create and maintain world peace. However, the Allies and Central Powers realized that the peace terms stated in the Treaty of Versailles did not help to maintain world peace. When the Allies created the Treaty they designed it in a bad way. Rather than specific, the Treaty didn t make much sense because it was wordy. John Maynard Keynes an English economist attended the Paris Peace Conference and wrote the book The Economic Consequences of Peace in which he stated his opinion about the Treaty. In Thornstein Veblen s review of The Economic Consequences of Peace he argues that Keynes withheld information about the consequences that the Treaty would cause. If Keynes would not have withheld any information the economic downfall would not have happened. Keynes failed to include the consequences of the Treaty in his analysis though, and failed to influence the Allies at the Paris Peace Conference. In Keynes analysis of the Treaty he did not include the consequence that the Bolshevism would come to an end. At the Paris Peace Conference the Great Powers only agreed to eliminate the Bolshevism, other than that the Great Powers could not agree on anything. They knew that it would be difficult to eliminate the Bolshevism in Soviet Russia, but the Great Powers thought it had to be done to create and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Ultimate Nature of Matter The Ultimate Nature of Matter The theory of quantum mechanics has divided the atom into a number of fundamental sub atomic particles. Although the physicist has shown that the atom is not a solid indivisible object, he has not been able to find a particle which does possess those qualities. Talk of particles, though, is misleading because the word suggests a material object. This is not the intention for the use of the word in quantum physics. Quantum particles are, instead, representations of the actions and reactions of forces at the sub atomic level. In fact, physicists are less concerned with the search for a material particle underlying all physical objects and more interested in explaining how nature works. Quantum theory is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I could also visit Dulwich College and perceive the building itself. By comparing my view with Pissaro s painting I can see enough similarities to assume that we perceived the same public neutral object. Consequently, these objects must exist independently of the minds that perceive them. From the physicist s viewpoint, matter is whatever exists from a neutral objective standpoint, and is independent of any conscious subject. In materialist terms matter would be a public neutral object. However, it is arguable whether the different forms of objects we perceive can be simply termed as different forms of matter. It is possible that matter may be an ultimate public neutral object which underlies the public neutral objects which we perceive as things in the world. Materialism allows matter its independence of the mind, but it is still no closer to explaining what matter is. Before we move on to other metaphysical theories, let us first consider an attack on the idea of matter to see if things become any clearer. Klempner puts forward such an attack in Metaphysics unit 11. Our experience of the world is only as perceptions in the mind. We cannot experience anything directly, therefore, we cannot experience the ultimate reality directly, but only as perceptions in the mind. A consequence of this belief is that my experiences of other people are also only as perceptions in my mind. To avoid falling into a solipsist belief, I can recognise that others have their own ... Comparing Wildung s Eve And Eve Baldung Endlessly, Baldung creates another Adam and Eve painting on a panel in 1530s and continues the concept between original sin and the sexual fallenness of all humankind. In this latest piece, both Adam and Eve stare outward toward the beholder with a mischievous look. It seems as if both of the figures want the audience to feel the sensuality between the two figures and purposely drives the viewer towards original sin. By grasping onto Eve s breast, Adam directs the attention to her sexual desire. Moreover, the sheer veil across her midsection draws more attention to her genital and Eve is completely aware of all the gaze that are upon her, which in fact, her expression shows that she is enjoying all of the lustful attention she is getting. These three advertising tactics are also the pillars of political speeches and other rhetorical media. In the play The Tragedy of Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare, ethos, pathos and logos are used to persuade many of the characters views on the conspirators plot and Caesar s subsequent death. My independent speech, Tear Down this Wall, was given by Ronald Reagan on June 12, 1987 in Berlin, Germany. This speech was given during the Cold War, which separated the Democratic from Communist countries. This is one of the most notable uses of rhetoric in Tear Down This Wall. Reagan states,t [that he] finds in Berlin a message of hope, even in the shadow of this wall, a message of triumph . This quote is a powerful example of pathos because it validated the dreams of so many people, the hope for freedom. The wall itself not only was a military boundary, but it also separated families and friends. Reagan s use of pathos was so powerful in this speech because of the hate and oppression the wall symbolized for so many years. TRANSITION In Marc Antony s funeral speech he calls Caesar s stab wounds the unkindest cut of them all. In this line he creates an emotional connection with the crowd. Through that connection he is able to impart a feeling of distrust towards Brutus, furthering the crowds agreement with his argument. Reagan uses a similar tactic in his speech, several times he addresses specific groups of people in German. By Drew Jenkins U5880443 Powerful tools include the use of coercion, threats, punishment, and any other means necessary to achieve teamwork. Dr. Clayton Christiansen describes how it can be used to mold children as well as in a corporation. In my parents house, this was their choice when my siblings and I were out of line. It would usually start with a series of threats. When threats were not taken seriously, it would be followed by immediate punishment. Dr. Christiansen in his HBR article, How Will You Measure Your Life? explains that these tools shaped a culture with some significant traits. The three traits developed from my home culture are dependability, integrity, and perseverance. Being dependable is a great trait for my work life culture. It was established through a series of constant responsibility placed on me by my parents. My eldest brother was always at work, and would not get back till early in the morning. This caused the responsibilities of him to fall to me. In a household of nine you really had to pull your own weight, plus any excess that could relieve stress off my parents. It was the consistent need to help out with younger siblings that caused a birth of dependence. In other words, every action I made was no longer just about myself, but for also the ... • 16. Physiology Of The Ear Introduction The ear is a combination of different organs and body parts that in conjunction allow us to hear. It is a sensitive piece of anatomy that can easily be abused, different frequencies at certain amplitudes through out our audible and inaudible ranges can slowly or very quickly damage our ability to perceive audio, even through something as simple as listening to your headphones mildly to loud. This damage can be present in many different forms each with variable extremities. Physiology of the Ear The ears previously mentioned are a collaboration of different very small and delicate organs and body parts. The first and most recognisable part of the ear is the only visible section, the Auricle, Pinna or outer ear, this works as the receptor for audio and works quite on the contrary to the horn of a gramophone, it s larger surface area allows for the capturing of sound waves and then funnels the vibrations in through the ear cannel to the other parts of the ear (Mackenna and Callander, 1997). The next piece of anatomy to receive the acquired sound waves is the tympanic membrane or the eardrum, this is stretched indirectly across the end of the ear canal, it operates as the main sound receptacle, when sound waves hit it s surface it vibrates, which then causes the ossicles; the combination of the malleus, stapes and the incus, located and attached to the eardrum transmits the sound to the vestibular window, two muscles then modulate the ... • 24. Bureaucratic Regimes And Political Politics The relationship between bureaucratic authoritarian regimes and any/all their political opposition is not one that is harmonious with respect to social order and government functioning. These two parties often attempt to obstruct the other. The regime typically explores ways to eliminate all opposition from political society, and political society in turn attempts to discredit the regime in the eyes of civil society. One common way the regime eliminates political opposition is by separating political society from civil society. Political society alone cannot effectively challenge the regime as it does not have the means to interrupt state functioning and increase the cost of oppression. One way they are able to divide the two societies is propagating the people into believing that politicians are all corrupt and do not truly have the interests of the people at heart.1 Bureaucratic authoritarian regimes commonly rely on bonapartism in order to gain power and keep political and civil society divided. In order to achieve this effect, the military offers the masses protection from communism in exchange for popular support in their bid for power. Such was the case in Chile, where the bourgeoisie are so worried about communism that they supported Pinochet s bid for power. These cuts begin from the moment when Hamlet says that he is going To put an antic disposition on (Act I Scene V). Taking out this one line could change the play entirely. Most of the lines in which he speaks of this part of his revenge plot following his original declaration of it are moments in which he is attempting to explain that he isn t actually insane. Among those seven is the art of persuasive speaking and writing called rhetoric. He could not use the same technique as Catherine because, like Petrarch, he had a different motive then her. While her purpose was to better the Catholic church, Erasmus s purpose was to expose the wrongdoings of the church. Using the scare tactic in this situation would have not been appropriate because instilling fear only works when you want someone to perform a certain action and by showing them the consequences of not doing in they will be persuaded into doing it. However, in Erasmus s case, he wants to persuade his audience into believing the church is corrupt. He also couldn t rely on Petrarch s technique because although it would ve been persuasive, it was also risky. The Pope was a very influential and powerful figure, therefore by explicitly exposing the him to the public, Erasmus could ve been severely punished. However, by using satire, his crime will be less severe and yet he could still get his point across the audience. In his pamphlet, Erasmus used mostly humor to criticizes Pope Julius II. For example, on page four, Erasmus pointed out that the Pope had the belch and stink like a man just come from a drunken debauch and fresh from the a fit of vomiting, (Erasmus, Julius Excluded From Heaven, pg. 4). Through this, you can see that the tone of the dialogue is very light and humorous. This strategy is the most effective in Erasmus s case because he is trying to reach out to a broader audience than Petrarch and Catherine, therefore by making the tone less serious, it can attract more attention. If Erasmus had made it too political then people would ve been less compelled to read it because the content would ve dry and not as interesting. I dashed to the pieces on the floor as if to save them, as if saving them would mean saving Papa Nnukwu . Some say it looks like a tall factory chimney. This is what is most written about in pioneers journals. Many put the most remarkable object that I ever saw in their journals. It looked like a tall factory chimney or a chimney from a burnt house. Charles described it as a Limbless trunk of a gigantic. Indians called it the Tepee or the Wigwam . In the poem, The Tyger Blake uses a dark tone showing the readers life s, deadly terrors (Blake 16). Through out the poem the words used have a very dark tone such as, burning (1) a word that readers will associate with fire a very destructive force that causes a sort of darkness for everyone involved. Throughout the poem, words like burning, distant, dread, fearful, deadly, terrors, and tears are used to create a dark tone. Some words and phrases help show the reader the darkness that comes in life. However, in his other poem, The Lamb the author uses words such as delight, softest, bright, tender, and rejoice to create a innocent tone. Gave thee clothing of delight/ Softest clothing wooly and bright (5 6). In using delight and bright the author creates a light tone, and in talking about a sheep, wooly and bright the reader gets the impression of a pure, white sheep. White sheep are a symbol of purity; the tone of these words then become pure. This tone gives the reader an idea of the purity and happier side of life conflicting with the dark tones of Blake s other piece. By having these tones conflict, Blake is showing the readers that life can be pure at times and dark at other times. In the last half of the lamb, the poem gives God the credit for making lamb the readers know to be pure. This tells the reader that Gods allows all things good or pure in life because he made this Little Lamb God bless thee ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The film Jaws, directed by Steven Spielberg, was created approximately 30 years ago. It tells the story of a shark which attacks and kills numerous people off the north east coast of the USA in a small holiday resort called Amity Island. The attacks took place around the 4th of July, which in America, is similar to the British bank holiday. During this time, many Americans and tourists from abroad visit resorts such as Amity Island for a summer vacation. This use of music and contrasting emotions builds up tension and fear affecting the audience as it makes them feel confused, as they can t understand how things can be so pleasant then suddenly so devastating. Spielberg also exploits various camera techniques to build up fear and suspense in the film Jaws. For example, during the second attack on Alex, a lot of different camera techniques and angles are being used. The start of the scene is a tracking shot, showing Alex coming out of the sea and sitting next to his mother on the beach. After some persuasion, his mother lets him have just 10 more minutes in the water. Then a further tracking shot is used, as we follow Alex up the beach as he goes and gets his lilo. The use of this camera angle, which focuses the audience s attention on Alex, immediately makes them feel more attached to the character. The next part of the scene shows Alex running into the sea on his lilo. The camera technique used for this part is a medium shot from a reverse angle, showing him from behind. This camera angle builds up fear as all the audience can see is Alex on his lilo and the bearing sea in front of him with no one else in sight. This immediately makes the audience realise that Alex is vulnerable and that if something was to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This experiment will determine which items we use to determine ph. The pH of a solution indicates its acidity or alkalinity. We discover our selves through different ways, and every journey of discovery is unique for each person. Introspection, self promotion, self verification, self esteem, as well as social comparisons all factor into how we view ourselves.
