Coming Of Age In Boys And Girls By Alice Munro
During the lectures and readings that we have done on coming of age, I have learned that coming of
age is a lot like a milestone in life. It happens when we mature or become more knowledgeable and it
can happen no matter what age we are. The story, Boys and Girls , by Alice Munro, shows us the
perfect example of coming of age and is also a story that left a lasting impression on me because of it
feminist aspect of a girl s life. Coming of age is our minds and bodies evolving into a more mature
person. It isn t based off age, but more of experience and knowledge. Most of the time, coming of age
is more profound in the young due to the transition from childhood to adulthood. During this
transition, they have their first experience of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even when she knew when they were going to put down her, she had no interest of seeing it happen
again, however this time the horse had gotten away from her dad and was running for dear life
towards the open gate. Her dad yells at her to run and close the gate, but instead of closing it she opens
it widely and lets Flora escape, meanwhile, her brother saw everything. Her father quickly gets in the
truck to track down the horse while her brother goes with them. Later on that night they come home
with the meat in the truck and while eating her brother tells on her. Feeling embarrassed and ashamed
she hides her face and silently agrees with her dad that she is just a girl. At the very end of this story is
where the main character goes through coming of age, she realized in everyone s eyes she would
always be a girl. Someone who should be inside the house doing chores and canning food. This is a
story that I can relate to, growing up I was a tomboy who was always outside helping my dad from
yard work to welding. My grandma was always trying to get me to do chores inside, do my hair, make
up and wear a dress. Often, she would tell me that I need to stop acting like a boy and start acting like
a girl so I can grow old and get married to a nice young man. It wasn t until I was in my early twenty s
that I started to dress more like a girl and wear

The Volkswagen Beetle
The people #8217;s car #8211; generically, Volkswagen in German #8211; is almost as old as the
automobile, and the type was familiar in Germany long before the advent of the Volkswagen. Usually
these #8220;popular #8221; cars were minimal cars, though size and simplicity did not necessarily
bring them within the reach of the ordinary man in the street. Henry Ford did build a successful
universal car, to sell at a low price, but his Model T with its 2.9 litre engine was by no means a small
car, nor was the Model A that followed it. When it was in production in the late 1920s, small
#8220;proper #8221; cars in Germany ranged from the 700 cc DKW to the 1 litre Opel, with small

500,000 beetles are shipped to the U.S. and you start to see more and more of them when on the road.
In 1970 they invent the annoying buzzer that goes off when the door is open and the beetle is first to
install it. In 1974 the first VW plant was shut down in Wolfsberg. Then in 1976 the metallic paint and
sport style rims were added to make the beetle look a little better which wasn #8217;t to bad for a cost
of $3,599. In 1978 the last beetle was produced in Germany and the only remaining beetle production
is in Mexico. (Beetle) Concept I was the sensation of the Detroit Show in January 1994 when
Volkswagen executives quite clearly stated that it was not the forerunner of the production model. By
the next motor show, at Geneva in March 1994, the strong public reaction had led to corporate change
of mind, and chairman Ferdinand Piech decided that it would be developed as a production model.
Beetle had never been an official VW name, but the public inevitably saw Concept I as #8220;Beetle
II #8221;, and on the Volkswagen stand at the 1996 Geneva Motor Show it was presented as #8220;the
new Beetle #8221;. The aim was 1998 production for sale in the United States first with models

Molecular And Biochemical Genetic Studies On Rice...
Title: Molecular and Biochemical Genetic Studies on Rice Blast Disease.
1 Summary:
Background: Rice (Oryza sativa, L.) is one of the strategic crops in Egypt, and improvement of its
productivity is an essential requirement to ensure food security. Rice blast is one of the most important
diseases of rice causing an average yield loss of 30 50% annually in rice growing areas of the world.
Many resistant rice cultivars are short lived after deployment because of the highly variation in
Magnaporthe oryzae population, due to a high level of genomic instability of the pathogen. So that,
the rice breeders trying to overcome this problem by developing resistant varieties by genetic
approaches to maintain sustainability of rice production.
Proposed Research: The aim of the current study is to study the rice blast mechanisms at molecular,
biochemical and physiological levels in some rice genotypes.
Methodology: (1) Some selected rice genotypes will be evaluated for blast resistance in seedling stage
under greenhouse condition. (2) Identification of rice blast resistance gene(s) in the genotypes. (3)
Determination of the superoxide dismutase (SOD) and polyphenol oxidase (PPO) activities and the
malondialdehyde (MDA) content in leaves of tested genotypes before and after 8 days from
inoculation date with Pyricularia oryzae. (4) Quantitative real time PCR (qRT PCR) analysis will be
carried out to identify the most responsive rice blast resistance gene(s) in the genotypes. (5) For

My Ancestry Research Paper
Introduction
Due to my passion for travel and my ancestry I ve based my Research Project around this topic. The
project will focus particularly on furthering my knowledge on my ancestry; significant countries in
relation to my family, and how to plan a holiday. This topic is momentous to me as I ll be accessing
new information, enhancing my knowledge on the culture and understanding the lifestyle my
grandparent s endured. Which by travelling and meeting new people will hopefully gain me a deeper
appreciation of life by viewing what other cultures live like and tie in my ancestry and the new culture
together. On this trip I ll be visiting Germany, Hungary, Croatia and Serbia. These countries are
relevant to my ancestry by locating sources which depicted my family up to my great, great; great
grandparents lived in these countries. The cities/villages which will be a primary location for this trip
is Mitrovica (Croatia), Novi Sad (Serbia), Budapest (Hungary) and in Germany Berlin. To travel to
and from countries I ll be using a hire car and air travelling.

What Causes Belief In Conspiracy Theory
Amongst Lies and Deception
What causes belief in conspiracy theories? Is it low self esteem, feelings of powerlessness, and
outright paranoia? Or could there be real evidence and substance to validate the claims of conspiracy
theorists? Perhaps just old, everyday distrust in the governing powers of the land? However, there is
one central idea that could be the foundation for all the different views on the relevant events that
inspire such widespread intrigue. This single, overarching idea is that major and significant events
demand marked and specific causes for the aforementioned occurrences. One of the more common
explanations for belief in conspiracy theories, is that the supporters adhere to the speculations because

Of course, this doesn t validate any and every conspiracy ever garnered, but it does raise some
questions as to the validity of government statements and news reports. But an even more meaningful
origin may yet exist. One that covers both bases of the formerly mentioned motivations. A far more
likely explanation for the formation of these theories and one that plays a part in the previously stated
reasons, is that many people believe that momentous episodes, by default, demand momentous
origins. Conspiracy theorists seek out or accept explanations that are proportional to the event in
question and believe that significant events need significant causes (Botherton and French).
This concept provides footing for both of the previously mentioned inciters. Paranoid individuals
would demand a significant cause for a strange event and others, who don t take the government at its
word, will not believe ordinary explanations for extraordinary events. Such observations add weight to
the idea that this is a far more likely explanation for conspiracy theories, as it supports opposing
viewpoints on the same issue, which in turn, provide for it. Conspiracy theories are a large part of our
culture. With technological communication, such ideas

My Future As A Military Officer And My Current Life At The...
This particular lesson I felt was extremely applicable to both my future as a military officer and my
current life at the academy. This reading focuses on conflict among members in an organization. The
reading describes common issues that lead to unhealthy conflict and how to avoid those issues.
Conflict is seen as a good thing in organizations as it creates a more complete understanding of the
choices, it creates a better range or options, and ultimately allows for effective decisions making.
However, it needs to be effectively managed to have a successful organization. Conflict can
sometimes turn unproductive, as comments can be interpreted as personal attacks. The reading offers
six tactics for managing interpersonal conflict. Of these six, I see the idea of focus on the facts as the
most important. This tactic states that the more information that one can provide to a situation, the less
likely conflicting viewpoints will be seen as personal attacks. This is especially true when data is
objective and up to date, as numbers do not lie and they are hard to argue. I see this often at the
academy when discussing possible changes in policy. Especially in situations that involve many
cadets. Often, discussions are very opinion based with little factual information because cadets often
do not have access to it. Because of this, these discussions often become a pointless debate. I could
make the assumption that this happens in an operational Air Force setting as well. In

Persuasive Essay On The Nuclear Bomb
With World War II escalating, the United States agreed to use the world s first nuclear bomb to end the
chaos. Tensions were rising as the western hemisphere finally unraveled the gruesome techniques
Hitler practiced on Jews. As Schweitzer concluded, Hitler and the Nazis replaced the organismic
theory of states with the racial theory of peoples (Schweitzer 61). To prevent more abuse from
happening with Hitler in charge, the United States decided to take action. After Pearl Harbor, the
Japanese, who are allies with Germany, were seen as the major threat to the United States.
Imprisonment were placed on the Japanese as a way to monitor and prevent Japanese influenced
attacks. These actions were brought upon by President Franklin D. Roosevelt shortly after Peal
Harbor. As an act to end the war and to get revenge on Pearl Harbor, the United States attacked Japan
on August 6th, 1945. Hiroshima was the first target because it had been untouched during the United
State s Air Force bombing raids and was a vulnerable military base for the bomb to be tested. On a
quiet Monday morning at 8:15 a.m., the nuclear bomb often recalled as the little boy was dropped on
western Japan. Young estimated that about 68,000 people died and 72,000 were wounded making
World War II one of the bloodiest war in history (Young 14). Taking over 140,000 lives at Hiroshima,
the first nuclear bomb proved to be devastating; three days later Nagasaki gets shattered with a nuclear
bomb. On August 9th,

Mesolithic To Neolithic Revolution
The main goal of the paper (Bocquet appel, 2002) is to detect the change in the number of humans
from Mesolithic to Neolithic transition. The paper uses a combination of both theoretical and cultural
historical evidence to infer the transition during Neolithic revolution. Previously, such transition in
demography is mainly inferred from genetic data, using the demic expansion model. Bocquet appel
(2002) argued that the genetic model embedded in the demic model did not show the change
representing the transition and suffered from ambiguous interpretation, and the new method of
paleoanthropological data from cemeteries can promise more informative and reliable signals. The
theoretical assumption behind Bocquet appel (2002) is that the proportion

Great Plains Ecosystem Essay
Aquatic habitats in the Great Plains region were historically dominated by rivers and streams with
associated wetlands and few natural lakes. Native fishes are typically riverine species that are in many
cases adapted to strong current, turbid water, and a wide range of water temperatures. However, many
species that require clear water and cool temperatures are found as relict populations in springs and
headwater streams. The native and introduced fish fauna are an important link in food chains for many
species and are significant economic resources for many communities.
The native fish fauna of the Great Plains includes representatives of twenty eight families and more
than 100 species. Several other families and many species have been introduced. The minnow family
(Cyprinidae) is the most diverse with more than forty species native to the region. Other ... Show more

southern (Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico) portions of the Great Plains were the least diverse with
fifty eight and sixty two species respectively. Both regions had seventeen native families, but the
southern region included representatives of two families (Characidae, Cyprinodontidae) and eight
species found native nowhere else in the Plains. The northern states and Canadian regions contribute
two families (Salmonidae, Cottidae) and four species to the native fauna. The Great Plains fish fauna
shows a strong influence of its connection to the Mississippi drainage. However, representatives of
northern and southwestern faunas are also in

Martin Luther King s An Indigenous Peoples History Of...
Martin Luther King Jr. once said, the ultimate tragedy is not the oppression and cruelty by the bad
people but the silence over that by the good people . This quote resonates with me because it explains
how normal it has become in our society to dismiss history or the various forms of oppression and
dominations. Prior to reading An Indigenous Peoples History of the United States, I had very limited
knowledge of the massacres, enslavement and tragedies that the Native Americans tribes endured
because of colonization. As an immigrant to the United States, I did not know a lot about Native
Americans nor were they part of the larger academic conversation. In school the most we were taught
about Native Americans were that Columbus sailed the oceans in 1492, looking for India but instead

Typically, during these lessons, we were also taught about the pilgrims and how they came to colonies
in search of freedom. In addition to this, there were also conversations about Puritans, Native
American s and a brief description of the trail of tears. My initial response to learning about the
Americas, and the fact that it was not a new world as it is most often referred as was surprising and
informative. In chapter 1, Follow the Corn, it talks about the multiple varieties and colors of corn,
squash, beans, potatoes and other agricultures. I felt a bit ignorant and misinformed because it had
never occurred to me that prior to the Europeans arrival to the new world, there was some complex
systems in place that helped the Natives survive. I think part of this narrow mindedness comes from
what I have been taught, which portrays Native Americans as uncivilized, tribal people. This chapter
was interesting because it introduces

Essay on People s Rights in History
People s Rights in History During the late eighteenth century due to philosophical writings of men
such as Rousseau and Locke, the question of what governments should be and the rights that every
person should have began to be questioned. In France it led to revolution and the Declaration of the
Rights of Man and the Citizen. The events in France influenced many in Britain to try for reforms to
their own government. Both France and Britain advocated many rights for their people; this essay will
discuss what those rights were supposed to be, who pushed for them, and what the realities of these
rights were. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Constitution and the economic reforms were, in the end, great windfalls for the middle class although
some things benefited all. Unfortunately, more was to come that proved that the DRMC was not worth
much to the people of France as those in power breached it often. The DRMC set out the basic rights
and liberties that were supposed to be taken account of when constituting the new government for
France. From the very beginning, people in power disregarded many of its articles in pursuit of their
own ends. Article 6 of the DRMC says that in forming laws: every citizen has a right to participate

The United States Government Spending
The United States Government Spending It is clear that the relationship between the spending policy
and the tax policy has dramatically changed over the past hundred years. It has been noticed that the
Democratic Party proposals show that increases in spending or cut taxes have been paid with new
revenue sources or by offsetting spending reductions (Hungerford 1). For the Republican Party on the
other side, tax and spending decisions tend to show more favoritism for isolation from one other and
with little regard to any impact on deficits and federal debts (Hungerford 1). Republicans pay for tax
cuts and spending increases with more of financed sources undergone during Republican
administrations (Hungerford 1). With these Democratic and Republican ways of dealing with spending
increases and tax cuts, many problems arise because, while the federal government is projected to run
deficits further into the future, the U.S economy is more focused on generating considerable amounts
of income growth far into the future. This is just another way of saying that the real fiscal challenge in
all of this is the political problem that arises from raising revenues that are sufficient to meet the
population s spending needs (Hungerford 2). The authority of Congress to raise revenue to pay the
debts and provide for the common Defense and general Welfare of the United States that comes from

The Importance Of Philip II To The Destruction Of Greece
Philip II ascended to the throne as the king of Macedon in what can be recognised as one of its most
difficult times, as his country was virtually on the brink of collapse. Despite these immediate
overwhelming odds, the future of the twenty one year olds life as king would see him not only revive
his depleted state, but overcome constant battles with rival oppressive forces both within and outside
Macedon s borders. It was these crucial further actions executed by Philip that would see him etch his
name into history forever, and spark a complicated debate that is; is it fair to describe Philip II as a
foreign despot who wrought the destruction of Greek liberty? This paper will argue that Philip was in
fact a foreign despot, however did not seek the destruction of Greece herself, but rather sought its
unity while in a state of dismay. While technically Philip matches the description of a foreign despot,
that is a ruler of absolute power from another nation, it is apparent that he had no intentions to destroy
Greece, but rather unify it both through military and political standpoints, both of which will be
discussed and argued in this text. Youngest son of Amyntas III and successor of Perdiccas III, Philip

education know that teachers on a daily basis have a high amount of demands like improve test
results, successfully teach to students with diverse needs, and raise ability to serve all students, often
with minimum resources and support. Consequences of several national Gallup polls evidently

Anton Chekhov s The Cherry Orchard
Anton Chekhov s The Cherry Orchard Analysis of Comedic Characters Anton Chekhov s The Cherry
Orchard is one of his most famous plays, despite the fact that the comedic aspect is often questioned.
The Cherry Orchard records the tale of a wealthy Russian family who are faced with the loss of their
estate due to bankruptcy, while also facing the reality of losing their beloved cherry orchard. Titled as
a comedy, it seeks to disclose the family and household dynamics during this brief period. The
wealthy family is in so much debt that they are being forced to sell their beloved cherry orchard, a
symbol of the affluent past that the family was accustomed to. The Cherry Orchard does not appear to
be a comedy in our modern day sense of the word, which is the reason that it can be so difficult for the
21st century reader to understand why the play is labeled a comedy and not a tragedy. In Checkhov s
work, the characters are one of the most prominent comedic forces driving the play. French
philosopher Henri Bergson s once summarized comedic character by saying that, Comedic character is
rigid or inflexible in circumstances that demand a resiliency of the mind or body (Fiero). Through the
lens of this definition, we conclude that the primary circumstances that demand(s) a resiliency of the
mind or body for the characters in The Cherry Orchard are the selling of the cherry orchard and the
loss of their class prominence. We will be considering Chekhov s comedic style

Essay about Doubting Thomas
Doubting Thomas
According to Webster, Skepticism is the philosophical doctrine that the attainment of absolute
knowledge is impossible. It comes from the Greek word skeptesthai meaning to examine, and the
practice was brought about during the elementary stages of philosophy by Pyrrho sometime between
360 270 b.c. Some other well known skeptics are Xenophanes, Gorgias, and Sextus Empiricus.
Skepticism is very common in today s society, and is practiced in some way by all. If you are alive
and functioning on this planet, you ll find that it is difficult to avoid being skeptic in one way or
another.96 Pyrrho was an ancient Greek philosopher, who introduced pure skepticism into Greek

Such skepticism was useful during Pyrrho s time; if nothing was provably wrong, one could
legitimately accept the customs or religion of whoever was in power. He also believed that each theory
had it s own contradictory argument, so he suspended judgment on all events.161 The roots of
skepticism are also believed to be accredited to Xenophanes, a philosopher and poet of Asia Minor. He
believed that if truth were stated. It could not be known In his writings Xenophanes cleverly satirized
the polytheistic beliefs of earlier Greek poets and of his own contemporaries. He ridiculed their deities
as gods created in the image of the mortals who worshiped them. In a famous passage he asserted that
if oxen could paint and sculpt, they would depict gods who resembled oxen. He felt that humans
should reject polytheistic ascribing of human motivation and characteristics to inanimate objects,
animals, and phenomena and recognize instead a single non human deity underlying and unifying all
worldly phenomena. 117 A parallel to Xenophanes philosophy is that which was expressed by
Gorgias, a famous Sophist. The Sophists consisted of experienced debaters and speech writers who
popularized the ideas of various early philosophers; but based on their understanding of this prior
philosophic thought, most of them concluded that truth and morality were

Original Sin In The Bible
One of the most commonly known stories of the Bible is the story of Adam and Eve. The story is
contained within that of Genesis, and a crucial moment in this tale is the moment Eve is tempted by
the serpent to go against God s will. This crucial moment is known as original sin, as this moment is
when both Adam and Eve fall from God s favor into the suffering and sin that is present in our modern
world. The tribulations that we were exempt from previously were now instated in our dominion due
to this original sin. However, while reading this Bible story, I did not truly understand this insight.
While analyzing and reading the actual story for the first time, I gained more insight into this original
sin, and God s almighty power over all, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Milton s Paradise Lost, Satan is characterized as a vengeful fallen angel who, while attempting to
rile his fallen army once again to battle, constantly battles with the inner despair and sorrow he feels
due to his loss against God. Satan struggles to fully realize God s almighty power against the fallen
angels, although the point is made by multiple different fellow commanders. Satan then focuses his
destruction upon God s creation, humans. He believes that by introducing sin to them, he will grieve
God. The epic poem ends the second book with Satan s ascent into Heaven to trick Adam and Eve. In
Paradise Lost, the book s message states that when humans are given the choice between sin and
salvation, the choice of salvation and return to God s grace makes God s power even stronger than any
evil s. Paradise Lost reinstates the insights I claimed through the story in the Bible, that we must be
aware of the choices we make between good or bad, and that if we are drawn into temptations and sin,
God s salvation is always more powerful than any temporary luxury that temptation

Essay Why Wood He Work
Why Wood He Work?
The great American poet, Robert Frost crafted numerous masterpieces in his time. At first glance,
Frost s poems often narrate a simple story or describe a rural scene; however, these sweet poems carry
dark undertones. The chief subject in Frost s literature is death; he delves into humanity s perception
of death along with different ways society acts as a catalyst towards death. Generally speaking, Frost
uses several techniques in his poetry that contribute to an overarching focus on death. Starting with
plot and setting, Frost s poems often describe a rather pleasant situation in nature; since virtually
everyone experiences nature, this setup allows Frost s poetry to be universally applicable. These
scenes are depicted with a conflict and can usually relate to death. In addition to the plot and setting
indicating death, Frost typically refers to an aspect of human nature that contributes physical or
emotional pain or death. The connection between societal weakness and human death is arguably one

personifies nature, a tactic Frost perfects in his poetry, allowing the poem to be understood by all.
Swells of Glory uses a similar rhyme scheme to one of Frost s greatest poems, Stopping by Woods On
A Snowy Evening , allowing for an easy flow from one line to the next. One aspect of Frost s poetry

If someone doesn t have enough electrolytes in their system then they can t function. Electrolytes are
important because they are what certain cells such as nerve, heart, and muscle use to sustain voltages
across their cell membranes. They are also what cells use to carry electrical impulses, as in nerve
impulses and muscle contractions, across themselves and to other cells. Kidneys work to keep the
electrolyte concentration in blood constant in spite of changes in the body. Again, when exercising, the
body loses most electrolytes in the sweat; sports drinks which contain sodium chloride or potassium
chloride are consumed after the workout to provide the body with the energy it just lost. They also
contain added sugar and flavorings to the drinks to give extra energy and to make the drink taste
better. People also drink other drinks after a workout because they feel that it obtains the energy more
effectively.
Sports drinks are used to receive energy while doing an active, or athletic, event. There are three
popular types of sports drinks: isotonic (average athlete), hypotonic (low perspiration athletes; jockeys
and gymnasts), and hypertonic (long distance runners that need the extra carbohydrates and
electrolytes). Isotonic sports drinks quickly replace fluids lost by sweating and supply a boost of
carbohydrates. Hypotonic sports drinks quickly replace fluid lost. Hypertonic sports drinks

The National Response Framework (NRF)
Introduction Disasters are incidents that most hope to avoid but in reality they happen often.
Preparation for these events is necessary if the damage and loss of life is to be mitigated. Several
events have occurred in the last decade that has increased awareness of the necessity of emergency
management. Events such Hurricane Katrina and the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Both of these events had
massive death tolls and millions of dollars worth of property damage. They both resulted in a public
outcry for more effective intervention and assistance with disaster incidents. The National Response

This means that a certain response is not required like a plan would necessitate. The size of the
disaster would dictate the size of the response. Not all disaster incidents require a federal or even state
response. The framework allows for part to be requested as needed. The local government can request
the help of the state and then the state can request the help of the federal government. Though for
some agencies to be involved on a local level the state or full federal invention is not required. This
way only the minimum level of assistance and resources necessitated are dispatched. This also permits
that resources and personnel are not wasted on one disaster that could be used elsewhere. The
scalability of response is key in creating efficiency and effectiveness within emergency management.
The final strength of the NRF is that is expressly informs state and local governments of the available
resources for receiving federal assistance. The emergency support functions (ESF) chart shows the

Social Class And Social Work Essay
The purpose of this assignment is to Examine the extent to which social class determines life chances
in contemporary Britain, and explore the relevance of the issue for students on a social work degree.
Within this document I will identify and explore key concepts and approaches in the sociological
analysis of social differentiation in modern society. I will then use these concepts and apply them to
contemporary britain in order to explain how social class influences an individual s life chances. I will
also discuss and examine the value of these theories to students on a social work course.
Sociology is fluid in the way in which theories become less central to sociological thinking as time
progresses. The theory of social class in particular was very prominent throughout the 1950 s 1970 s
where social class divisions were seen as central to understanding differences in opportunity and life
chances. Social class has been defined as a division of a society based on social and economic status.
(1) These theories of social class were developed and studied by the likes of Marx, Weber and
Durkheim. The theory of class has been subject to some criticism however since it fails to explain
other forms of inequality such as race, gender and sexuality. Although there have been many attempts
to link these inequalities to social class, no such connection has been found and other theoretical
approaches have been needed from the likes of Andrew Pilkington, Kathwood Woodward and

The Negative Aspects Of UK Voting In The UK
Voting in general elections can essentially be described as a mouth piece for the people, allowing the
public to have an opinion regarding issues that directly affect them, holding significant importance
within a democratic society. As history used to be written off by the dates of kings... now it is marked
by the dates of general elections. (Butler D,1998) Throughout this essay the topic of general elections
in the UK will be thoroughly analysed with regards to critique surrounding their nature and the current

The Demand And Supply Model
Part A: The demand and supply model is the representation of the demand in comparison with the
effects on the price of the product or the service, the demand and supply model is the backbone of
economic analysis and involves the measure of price elasticity and the shifts/ demands these events
cause to the demand and supply and the effects on substitutes and compliments of the good or service
as well as finding price and supply equilibrium. The particular article explores the excess demand of
chocolate and the possible increase of prices in order to try decrease demand. After applying the
demand and supply model to the article it suggests that there is only a slight decrease in demand due
to price increase and suggests that this would have an impact on compliments whilst having a small
positive impact on substitutes. This analysis is important as the effects of prices on chocolate will
possibly have a major impact on the economy. The article is about the excess demand of chocolate and
the demand outstripping the supply and producing less than the world eats, the decrease in supply is
said to be caused by factors including dry weather and a fungal disease in Ghana where almost 70% of
the cocoa is produced. In further economic analysis the law of demand states that the demand of a
good and service are inversely related. When the price of a product increases, the demand for the
product will fall. The determination of supply is: production cost, firm s expectation about

Pursuit Of Happyness Essay
Success is extremely coveted in the society, however on the path to success, obstacles will stand in the
way. Failure is inevitable and the response of an individual towards these obstacles and the failures in
their lives determines whether or not they will have success. Failure gives allowance to learn from
mistakes and motivates to do better the next time. The Pursuit of Happyness uses lighting, music and
camera angles to give viewers an insight into Chris journey through the film demonstrating his
resiliency, optimism and loving personality. Filmmaker, Gabriele Muccino, uses the protagonist, Chris
final triumph to illustrate the significance of failure in achieving success. Resiliency can be best
described as the ability to recover ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The mood of the film during these times were always sad and seemingly hopeless; the sound was
always slow and solemn to represent all the various circumstances that he faced. Though things were
challenging for him at night, he put on a brave face during the day and he did not allow those
circumstances to weigh him down. With all the problems, he was facing during the night he was able
to overcome it the next day. These actions were only possible with his optimistic spirit. With
everything Chris and his son went through it would seem almost impossible to be optimistic in that
situation. Optimism was a crucial factor in his successes. It brought him to a place where life was
better, allowing him to overcome dire circumstances despite the doubts of others. When his wife left
him, it seemed it would be impossible to survive with the internship that gave no salary. It seemed like
their life would take a turn for the worse. However, the optimism and belief that Chris had in his
abilities led to him finally being able to defeat the negative outlook of others on his choices. His
positive outlook on his situation gave him the strength to beat the odds against him. His chances to get
into the internship seemed very little, but he had hopes to make it in. The day of his interview, he did
not have time to dress appropriately, but he took his bad situation and turn it into a positive

Slope Research Paper
Morgan Hobbs
Mr. Meyer
Algebra II
12 December 2016
The Importance of Slope Slope is one of the most important equations used in day to day life. Every
structure that you own and live in uses slope. The only reason why everything is stable, is because of
construction workers and anyone that builds things uses slope formula. The formula for slope is y2 y1
over x2 x1. Slope is very important in the construction field because it often states the best way to
complete a project. The slope of a road affects water runoff, so engineers and construction workers
must plan accordingly. Slope is also important to people who use wheelchairs and other types of
devices to help others move around. Skiers, snowboarders, and snowmobilers must pay attention ...

Skiers use slope every time they go skiing, as well as snowboarders, and snowmobilers. When you are
snowmobiling, you need to assess your surroundings, and decide whether or not it is safe to go up a
steep slope. If you attempt to go up an extremely steep slope without a snowmobile with high
horsepower, you will most likely roll down the slope and get seriously injured. If you are going down
a slope, you need to be aware of the fact that you could possibly start an avalanche. If an avalanche
occurs there is one maneuver to increase your chance of survival. This maneuver is called a slope cut.
When performing a slope cut, you want to have your speed built up and go in a direction where it is
safe, so that if the slope that you are on fractures, your momentum will carry you off the moving slab
and onto a safe

Galapagos Islands Research Paper
Discovered in 1535, the Galapagos Islands have been a place of mystery and wonder for centuries.
The Galapagos Islands are a group of volcanic islands located approximately 1000 kilometers west of
the South American coast on the equator. Thirteen main islands make up the island chain, along with 6
smaller islands and numerous other islets, small rocks, and pinnacles, with a total land surface area of
approximately 8,000 square kilometers. The islands are known for their unique species of countless
different animals, found nowhere else in the world, and for the discoveries made by Darwin at this
island chain. The Galapagos Islands are unique in many aspects, including the hot spot underneath, the
plate tectonics, the two different volcano types ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These crater like volcanoes are quite an uncommon occurrence, although they are not unique to just
the Galapagos. However, the unusual part of these calderas is their size, especially compared to their
relation to the size of the volcano. Calderas form after a collapse of a magma chamber located under
the surface. The magma in these chambers give support to the volcano, but after the magma
withdraws, the surrounding rock becomes unsupported and cannot bear the weight above them, and
therefore they collapse. These calderas do not form in just one collapse; they slowly grow after many
collapses. This was proven after a partial collapse of the caldera on Fernandina in 1968, as part of the
crater dropped nearly 200 meters. Several other smaller collapses have occurred on Fernandina as well
as other islands since the collapse in 1968. These calderas can also be refilled with magma, partially or
all the way, and then reform. An example of this is Isla Marchena, located in the northeast, which has
nearly been filled all the way with lava. If these calderas drop below sea level and part of the rim
breaks, the caldera can form a bay just as Genovesa s caldera

Song Analysis of Hands Down by Dashboard Confessional Essay
Hands Down
By: Dashboard Confessional
Song Analysis
Everyone has that one song they can listen to over and over again. There are various reasons people
press the repeat button, whether it be the sound of the singer s voice, the quality of their musicianship,
or their heartfelt lyrics and the story they tell. The song Hands Down , by Dashboard Confessional
tells the story of a day in the life of lead singer, Chris Carrabba, in high school. Carrabba has said that
this song is about the best day he has ever had, and introduces it as such at concerts. Dashboard
Confessional effectively uses paradox, irony, imagery, and repetition, to enable the listener to create a
visual and experience emotions felt by the writer. Hands ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The boy is hoping for something as simple as a kiss, and this simple action would please him so much
that it would kill him. The boy is willing to give up everything in order to experience this kiss and end
his life on a happy note.
Another literary device used in Hands Down is irony. During the middle of the song, this line sets the
mood for the story and the presumed expectations of a teenage relationship.
The words are hushed, let s not get busted.
Just lay entwined here, undiscovered,
Safe in here from all the stupid questions:
Hey did you get some?
Man, that is so dumb.
Stay quiet, stay near, stay close, they can t hear, so we can get some.
In most relationships sex is an essential and expected part, even for teenagers. Many teen relationships
are subjected to the scrutiny of their peers on whether or not they are getting some . This stanza is
ironic because in the beginning it says how dumb the questions about getting some are, yet at the end
it talks about doing just that. At the very end of the song, Dashboard uses imagery to describe the little
things that you will always remember, and the one special night that was meant to be ordinary, yet
turned out to be so incredibly wonderful.
Hands down, this is the best day I will ever remember.
I ll always remember the sound of the stereo,

Representative Peter DeFazio s Party Unity Score Discussion
In 2013, Rep. Peter DeFazio s (D, OR 4) party unity score was 94% (Weyl, 183). Party unity as
defined in the textbook, Congress and Its Members, are votes in which the majority of voting
Republicans oppose a majority of voting Democrats. In other words, average votes Peter DeFazio
casted with the Democratic majority against the Republican majority. Furthermore, party affiliation as
well as ideological positions, and the constituency pressure are strongly correlated with congressmen s
voting decisions (Davidson, Oleskek, Lee 2014, 255). The roll call vote that I chose to calculate the
party unity score of Rep. DeFazio was the roll call vote named Disaster Supplement Fish and Wildlife
Construction. This roll call concerned a bill named Super Storm Sandy Disaster Aid. The purpose of
the roll call was to determine if hinder funding for the Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) to repair
seawalls and buildings on wildlife refuges that are damaged by a natural disaster. The reduction of
funds to the FWS by $9.8 million was another main point of the roll call vote. This roll call voting
would determine how much funding would be provided to FWS to help the communities affect by
Hurricane Sandy as well as other damaged wildlife refuges across the nation. In this issue, Rep,
DeFazio voted nay along with 189 Democrats. However, the outcome of the voting was 216 to 205 in
favor of the Republican Party (CQ Weekly, 2013). A particular factor that influenced Rep. DeFazio
voting nay on

  • 2. Coming Of Age In Boys And Girls By Alice Munro During the lectures and readings that we have done on coming of age, I have learned that coming of age is a lot like a milestone in life. It happens when we mature or become more knowledgeable and it can happen no matter what age we are. The story, Boys and Girls , by Alice Munro, shows us the perfect example of coming of age and is also a story that left a lasting impression on me because of it feminist aspect of a girl s life. Coming of age is our minds and bodies evolving into a more mature person. It isn t based off age, but more of experience and knowledge. Most of the time, coming of age is more profound in the young due to the transition from childhood to adulthood. During this transition, they have their first experience of ... Her father quickly gets in the truck to track down the horse while her brother goes with them. Later on that night they come home with the meat in the truck and while eating her brother tells on her. Feeling embarrassed and ashamed she hides her face and silently agrees with her dad that she is just a girl. At the very end of this story is where the main character goes through coming of age, she realized in everyone s eyes she would always be a girl. Someone who should be inside the house doing chores and canning food. This is a story that I can relate to, growing up I was a tomboy who was always outside helping my dad from yard work to welding. My grandma was always trying to get me to do chores inside, do my hair, make up and wear a dress. The Volkswagen Beetle The people #8217;s car #8211; generically, Volkswagen in German #8211; is almost as old as the automobile, and the type was familiar in Germany long before the advent of the Volkswagen. Usually these #8220;popular #8221; cars were minimal cars, though size and simplicity did not necessarily bring them within the reach of the ordinary man in the street. Henry Ford did build a successful universal car, to sell at a low price, but his Model T with its 2.9 litre engine was by no means a small car, nor was the Model A that followed it. When it was in production in the late 1920s, small #8220;proper #8221; cars in Germany ranged from the 700 cc DKW to the 1 litre Opel, with small Adlers, the BMW Dixi (a license built Austin Seven) and ... • 4. Molecular And Biochemical Genetic Studies On Rice... Title: Molecular and Biochemical Genetic Studies on Rice Blast Disease. 1 Summary: Background: Rice (Oryza sativa, L.) is one of the strategic crops in Egypt, and improvement of its productivity is an essential requirement to ensure food security. Rice blast is one of the most important diseases of rice causing an average yield loss of 30 50% annually in rice growing areas of the world. Many resistant rice cultivars are short lived after deployment because of the highly variation in Magnaporthe oryzae population, due to a high level of genomic instability of the pathogen. So that, the rice breeders trying to overcome this problem by developing resistant varieties by genetic approaches to maintain sustainability of rice production. Proposed Research: The aim of the current study is to study the rice blast mechanisms at molecular, biochemical and physiological levels in some rice genotypes. Methodology: (1) Some selected rice genotypes will be evaluated for blast resistance in seedling stage under greenhouse condition. (2) Identification of rice blast resistance gene(s) in the genotypes. (3) Determination of the superoxide dismutase (SOD) and polyphenol oxidase (PPO) activities and the malondialdehyde (MDA) content in leaves of tested genotypes before and after 8 days from inoculation date with Pyricularia oryzae. (4) Quantitative real time PCR (qRT PCR) analysis will be carried out to identify the most responsive rice blast resistance gene(s) in the genotypes. (5) For ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Or could there be real evidence and substance to validate the claims of conspiracy theorists? Perhaps just old, everyday distrust in the governing powers of the land? However, there is one central idea that could be the foundation for all the different views on the relevant events that inspire such widespread intrigue. This single, overarching idea is that major and significant events demand marked and specific causes for the aforementioned occurrences. Of course, this doesn t validate any and every conspiracy ever garnered, but it does raise some questions as to the validity of government statements and news reports. But an even more meaningful origin may yet exist. One that covers both bases of the formerly mentioned motivations. A far more likely explanation for the formation of these theories and one that plays a part in the previously stated reasons, is that many people believe that momentous episodes, by default, demand momentous origins. Conspiracy theorists seek out or accept explanations that are proportional to the event in question and believe that significant events need significant causes (Botherton and French). This concept provides footing for both of the previously mentioned inciters. Paranoid individuals would demand a significant cause for a strange event and others, who don t take the government at its word, will not believe ordinary explanations for extraordinary events. • 7. My Future As A Military Officer And My Current Life At The... This particular lesson I felt was extremely applicable to both my future as a military officer and my current life at the academy. This reading focuses on conflict among members in an organization. The reading describes common issues that lead to unhealthy conflict and how to avoid those issues. Conflict is seen as a good thing in organizations as it creates a more complete understanding of the choices, it creates a better range or options, and ultimately allows for effective decisions making. However, it needs to be effectively managed to have a successful organization. Conflict can sometimes turn unproductive, as comments can be interpreted as personal attacks. The reading offers six tactics for managing interpersonal conflict. Of these six, I see the idea of focus on the facts as the most important. This tactic states that the more information that one can provide to a situation, the less likely conflicting viewpoints will be seen as personal attacks. This is especially true when data is objective and up to date, as numbers do not lie and they are hard to argue. I see this often at the academy when discussing possible changes in policy. Especially in situations that involve many cadets. Often, discussions are very opinion based with little factual information because cadets often do not have access to it. Because of this, these discussions often become a pointless debate. I could make the assumption that this happens in an operational Air Force setting as well. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Persuasive Essay On The Nuclear Bomb With World War II escalating, the United States agreed to use the world s first nuclear bomb to end the chaos. Tensions were rising as the western hemisphere finally unraveled the gruesome techniques Hitler practiced on Jews. As Schweitzer concluded, Hitler and the Nazis replaced the organismic theory of states with the racial theory of peoples (Schweitzer 61). To prevent more abuse from happening with Hitler in charge, the United States decided to take action. After Pearl Harbor, the Japanese, who are allies with Germany, were seen as the major threat to the United States. Imprisonment were placed on the Japanese as a way to monitor and prevent Japanese influenced attacks. These actions were brought upon by President Franklin D. Roosevelt shortly after Peal Harbor. As an act to end the war and to get revenge on Pearl Harbor, the United States attacked Japan on August 6th, 1945. Hiroshima was the first target because it had been untouched during the United State s Air Force bombing raids and was a vulnerable military base for the bomb to be tested. Previously, such transition in demography is mainly inferred from genetic data, using the demic expansion model. Bocquet appel (2002) argued that the genetic model embedded in the demic model did not show the change representing the transition and suffered from ambiguous interpretation, and the new method of paleoanthropological data from cemeteries can promise more informative and reliable signals. • 16. The United States Government Spending The United States Government Spending It is clear that the relationship between the spending policy and the tax policy has dramatically changed over the past hundred years. It has been noticed that the Democratic Party proposals show that increases in spending or cut taxes have been paid with new revenue sources or by offsetting spending reductions (Hungerford 1). For the Republican Party on the other side, tax and spending decisions tend to show more favoritism for isolation from one other and with little regard to any impact on deficits and federal debts (Hungerford 1). Republicans pay for tax cuts and spending increases with more of financed sources undergone during Republican administrations (Hungerford 1). With these Democratic and Republican ways of dealing with spending increases and tax cuts, many problems arise because, while the federal government is projected to run deficits further into the future, the U.S economy is more focused on generating considerable amounts of income growth far into the future. This is just another way of saying that the real fiscal challenge in all of this is the political problem that arises from raising revenues that are sufficient to meet the population s spending needs (Hungerford 2). • 19. Anton Chekhov s The Cherry Orchard Anton Chekhov s The Cherry Orchard Analysis of Comedic Characters Anton Chekhov s The Cherry Orchard is one of his most famous plays, despite the fact that the comedic aspect is often questioned. The Cherry Orchard records the tale of a wealthy Russian family who are faced with the loss of their estate due to bankruptcy, while also facing the reality of losing their beloved cherry orchard. Titled as a comedy, it seeks to disclose the family and household dynamics during this brief period. The wealthy family is in so much debt that they are being forced to sell their beloved cherry orchard, a symbol of the affluent past that the family was accustomed to. The Cherry Orchard does not appear to be a comedy in our modern day sense of the word, which is the reason that it can be so difficult for the 21st century reader to understand why the play is labeled a comedy and not a tragedy. In Checkhov s work, the characters are one of the most prominent comedic forces driving the play. French philosopher Henri Bergson s once summarized comedic character by saying that, Comedic character is rigid or inflexible in circumstances that demand a resiliency of the mind or body (Fiero). Through the lens of this definition, we conclude that the primary circumstances that demand(s) a resiliency of the mind or body for the characters in The Cherry Orchard are the selling of the cherry orchard and the loss of their class prominence. • 23. Essay about Doubting Thomas Doubting Thomas According to Webster, Skepticism is the philosophical doctrine that the attainment of absolute knowledge is impossible. It comes from the Greek word skeptesthai meaning to examine, and the practice was brought about during the elementary stages of philosophy by Pyrrho sometime between 360 270 b.c. Some other well known skeptics are Xenophanes, Gorgias, and Sextus Empiricus. Skepticism is very common in today s society, and is practiced in some way by all. If you are alive and functioning on this planet, you ll find that it is difficult to avoid being skeptic in one way or another.96 Pyrrho was an ancient Greek philosopher, who introduced pure skepticism into Greek philosophy, founded the school known as ... He also believed that each theory had it s own contradictory argument, so he suspended judgment on all events.161 The roots of skepticism are also believed to be accredited to Xenophanes, a philosopher and poet of Asia Minor. He believed that if truth were stated. It could not be known In his writings Xenophanes cleverly satirized the polytheistic beliefs of earlier Greek poets and of his own contemporaries. He ridiculed their deities as gods created in the image of the mortals who worshiped them. In a famous passage he asserted that if oxen could paint and sculpt, they would depict gods who resembled oxen. He felt that humans should reject polytheistic ascribing of human motivation and characteristics to inanimate objects, animals, and phenomena and recognize instead a single non human deity underlying and unifying all worldly phenomena. 117 A parallel to Xenophanes philosophy is that which was expressed by Gorgias, a famous Sophist. The Sophists consisted of experienced debaters and speech writers who popularized the ideas of various early philosophers; but based on their understanding of this prior philosophic thought, most of them concluded that truth and morality were ... The story is contained within that of Genesis, and a crucial moment in this tale is the moment Eve is tempted by the serpent to go against God s will. This crucial moment is known as original sin, as this moment is when both Adam and Eve fall from God s favor into the suffering and sin that is present in our modern world. The tribulations that we were exempt from previously were now instated in our dominion due to this original sin. However, while reading this Bible story, I did not truly understand this insight. In Milton s Paradise Lost, Satan is characterized as a vengeful fallen angel who, while attempting to rile his fallen army once again to battle, constantly battles with the inner despair and sorrow he feels due to his loss against God. Satan struggles to fully realize God s almighty power against the fallen angels, although the point is made by multiple different fellow commanders. Satan then focuses his destruction upon God s creation, humans. He believes that by introducing sin to them, he will grieve God. The epic poem ends the second book with Satan s ascent into Heaven to trick Adam and Eve. In Paradise Lost, the book s message states that when humans are given the choice between sin and salvation, the choice of salvation and return to God s grace makes God s power even stronger than any evil s. At first glance, Frost s poems often narrate a simple story or describe a rural scene; however, these sweet poems carry dark undertones. The chief subject in Frost s literature is death; he delves into humanity s perception of death along with different ways society acts as a catalyst towards death. Generally speaking, Frost uses several techniques in his poetry that contribute to an overarching focus on death. Starting with plot and setting, Frost s poems often describe a rather pleasant situation in nature; since virtually everyone experiences nature, this setup allows Frost s poetry to be universally applicable. If someone doesn t have enough electrolytes in their system then they can t function. Electrolytes are important because they are what certain cells such as nerve, heart, and muscle use to sustain voltages across their cell membranes. They are also what cells use to carry electrical impulses, as in nerve impulses and muscle contractions, across themselves and to other cells. Kidneys work to keep the electrolyte concentration in blood constant in spite of changes in the body. Again, when exercising, the body loses most electrolytes in the sweat; sports drinks which contain sodium chloride or potassium chloride are consumed after the workout to provide the body with the energy it just lost. They also contain added sugar and flavorings to the drinks to give extra energy and to make the drink taste better. I will then use these concepts and apply them to contemporary britain in order to explain how social class influences an individual s life chances. Sociology is fluid in the way in which theories become less central to sociological thinking as time progresses. The theory of social class in particular was very prominent throughout the 1950 s 1970 s where social class divisions were seen as central to understanding differences in opportunity and life chances. Social class has been defined as a division of a society based on social and economic status. (1) These theories of social class were developed and studied by the likes of Marx, Weber and Durkheim. The theory of class has been subject to some criticism however since it fails to explain other forms of inequality such as race, gender and sexuality. When you are snowmobiling, you need to assess your surroundings, and decide whether or not it is safe to go up a steep slope. If you attempt to go up an extremely steep slope without a snowmobile with high horsepower, you will most likely roll down the slope and get seriously injured. If you are going down a slope, you need to be aware of the fact that you could possibly start an avalanche. If an avalanche occurs there is one maneuver to increase your chance of survival. This maneuver is called a slope cut. When performing a slope cut, you want to have your speed built up and go in a direction where it is safe, so that if the slope that you are on fractures, your momentum will carry you off the moving slab and onto a safe ... • 43. Galapagos Islands Research Paper Discovered in 1535, the Galapagos Islands have been a place of mystery and wonder for centuries. The Galapagos Islands are a group of volcanic islands located approximately 1000 kilometers west of the South American coast on the equator. Thirteen main islands make up the island chain, along with 6 smaller islands and numerous other islets, small rocks, and pinnacles, with a total land surface area of approximately 8,000 square kilometers. The islands are known for their unique species of countless different animals, found nowhere else in the world, and for the discoveries made by Darwin at this island chain. The Galapagos Islands are unique in many aspects, including the hot spot underneath, the plate tectonics, the two different volcano types ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These crater like volcanoes are quite an uncommon occurrence, although they are not unique to just the Galapagos. However, the unusual part of these calderas is their size, especially compared to their relation to the size of the volcano. Calderas form after a collapse of a magma chamber located under the surface. The magma in these chambers give support to the volcano, but after the magma withdraws, the surrounding rock becomes unsupported and cannot bear the weight above them, and therefore they collapse. These calderas do not form in just one collapse; they slowly grow after many collapses. This was proven after a partial collapse of the caldera on Fernandina in 1968, as part of the crater dropped nearly 200 meters. Several other smaller collapses have occurred on Fernandina as well as other islands since the collapse in 1968. These calderas can also be refilled with magma, partially or all the way, and then reform. An example of this is Isla Marchena, located in the northeast, which has nearly been filled all the way with lava. If these calderas drop below sea level and part of the rim breaks, the caldera can form a bay just as Genovesa s caldera ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are various reasons people press the repeat button, whether it be the sound of the singer s voice, the quality of their musicianship, or their heartfelt lyrics and the story they tell. The song Hands Down , by Dashboard Confessional tells the story of a day in the life of lead singer, Chris Carrabba, in high school. Carrabba has said that this song is about the best day he has ever had, and introduces it as such at concerts. Dashboard Confessional effectively uses paradox, irony, imagery, and repetition, to enable the listener to create a visual and experience emotions felt by the writer. Hands ... The boy is willing to give up everything in order to experience this kiss and end his life on a happy note. Another literary device used in Hands Down is irony. During the middle of the song, this line sets the mood for the story and the presumed expectations of a teenage relationship. The words are hushed, let s not get busted. Just lay entwined here, undiscovered, Safe in here from all the stupid questions: Hey did you get some? Man, that is so dumb. Stay quiet, stay near, stay close, they can t hear, so we can get some. In most relationships sex is an essential and expected part, even for teenagers. Many teen relationships are subjected to the scrutiny of their peers on whether or not they are getting some . This stanza is ironic because in the beginning it says how dumb the questions about getting some are, yet at the end it talks about doing just that. At the very end of the song, Dashboard uses imagery to describe the little things that you will always remember, and the one special night that was meant to be ordinary, yet turned out to be so incredibly wonderful. Hands down, this is the best day I will ever remember. I ll always remember the sound of the stereo, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Representative Peter DeFazio s Party Unity Score Discussion In 2013, Rep. Peter DeFazio s (D, OR 4) party unity score was 94% (Weyl, 183). Party unity as defined in the textbook, Congress and Its Members, are votes in which the majority of voting Republicans oppose a majority of voting Democrats. In other words, average votes Peter DeFazio casted with the Democratic majority against the Republican majority. Furthermore, party affiliation as well as ideological positions, and the constituency pressure are strongly correlated with congressmen s voting decisions (Davidson, Oleskek, Lee 2014, 255). The roll call vote that I chose to calculate the party unity score of Rep. DeFazio was the roll call vote named Disaster Supplement Fish and Wildlife Construction. This roll call concerned a bill named Super Storm Sandy Disaster Aid. The purpose of the roll call was to determine if hinder funding for the Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) to repair seawalls and buildings on wildlife refuges that are damaged by a natural disaster. The reduction of funds to the FWS by $9.8 million was another main point of the roll call vote. This roll call voting would determine how much funding would be provided to FWS to help the communities affect by Hurricane Sandy as well as other damaged wildlife refuges across the nation. In this issue, Rep, DeFazio voted nay along with 189 Democrats. However, the outcome of the voting was 216 to 205 in favor of the Republican Party (CQ Weekly, 2013). A particular factor that influenced Rep. DeFazio voting nay on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
