Fearing that HCA had veered away from its roots, Dr. Frist Jr., returned as Chairman and CEO in
1997. Frist Jr. s, return to the company he and his father founded spurred a major restructuring of the
company, including several divestitures of non hospital businesses and hospitals in the portfolio that
did not meet the company s strategic objectives moving forward. Frist would pull off what Fortune
magazine called a remarkable corporate rescue.
Since 1997, the company cycled through one additional leveraged buyout for $31.6 billion. The
investment group included Kohlberg Kravis Robert, Merrill Lynch, and Bain Capital. This was the
second LBO for HCA in a 17 year span. At the time of its announcement, the HCA buyout was the
first of several to set new records for the largest, eclipsing the 1989 buyout of RJR Nabisco.
On Friday, May 7, 2010, HCA announced that the corporation would once again go public with an
expected $4.6 billion IPO. On Wednesday, March 9, 2011, HCA sold 126.2 million shares for $30
each, raising about $3.79 billion, making it the largest private equity backed IPO in U.S. history. The
closing price as of February 3, 2016 was $70.20

How The Rights Of Women Have Changed Since The 1960s And...
As you know many things have changed since the 1960s and 1970s. For instance, women s rights.
Women rights have come a long way in education, work, family life, politics, and sports. But I am
writing to remind you the importance in women s work force. Women have always in a general
manner...been under appreciated. It seemed however that sometimes needs made men realize or
potential. You see during world war 2, nearly all women worked...this was directly related to the fact
that men where away at war. Women worked both hard labor, and intelligent jobs. After they returned;
women gave up their jobs and let men take over. Most women enjoyed the thought of a house life, but
I don t think most knew exactly what they were getting themselves into. Women ... Show more

I had a job, although some men seemed to be uncomfortable with the idea. Some businesses only
allowed women as secretary. Now I am not sure about today, but I do know it is still rising. Now our
family even though it is 2017 and women have equal rights...many don t grasp those rights as they
should. Some people don t find the importance, but if they did not have the option I believe they
would. I am old fashioned. I can and will be the first in line. I know the importance, and hope you
learn. Most of our family s females are do not work, unfortanilly they just marry and raise
children...sound familiar. You now have the opportunity to grow up, finish your schooling, college,
and get a great job. You can teach, discover.... run for president. You don t have a limit to what you do.
Today, we are considered equals to men in society. But even today you can find those few suborn
raised individuals that never seem to grasp that concept. I don t think they ever will. That is why it is
important to always remember, so we can always prove those suborn people

The Roe V. Wade
Before the 1973 ruling of the case of Roe v Wade, the estimated average number of illegal abortions
every year ranged from 200,000 to 1.5 million. The methods used were violently dangerous including
women ingesting toxic substances such as bleach and detergents which often times was ineffective.
Women around the country were concerned that the anti abortion laws conflicted with a person s right
to privacy and equal protection given by the Fourth and Fourteenth Amendments of the Constitution.
Gale University s William Sullivan explains The right to abort unborn children is not specifically
protected by the Constitution, and prior to 1973, abortion legislation had been understood to be limited
to the power of the states per the Tenth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Alternatively, McCorvey s friends encouragingly suggested she lie and say that her pregnancy was the
result of her being raped. McCorvey was not able to provide evidence of which would prove her claim
of rape to be true so she was not granted the right to abort her fetus. She then was left with a limitation
of options, one being an illegal abortion clinic that she soon found out had been shut down by the
police, and the other option being an old abandoned building where McCorvey stated dirty
instruments were scattered around the room, and there was dried blood on the floor. McCorvey
believed it was against the constitutional rights of american citizens to restrict the rights of abortion.
These restricting laws were believes by many women to trap them into unfavorable alternatives such
as self abortion or abortions performed by unlicensed beings with unsanitary surroundings and
equipment. Desperate, McCorvey agreed to participate in a lawsuit against Henry Wade in efforts to
make a difference for women around the world with the hopes of retaining her anonymity. An article
on encyclopedia.com concerning the Roe v Wade case and it s background states, McCorvey chose to
remain anonymous for several reasons: she feared publicity would hurt her five year old daughter, her
parents were against abortion, and she had lied about being raped (p.9) thus Norma McCorvey was
known as Jane Roe in the now infamous case of as Roe v.

Analysis Of George Berkeley s Philosophy
George Berkeley is considered one the greatest modern philosophers, yet when he is studied he is seen
as misguided and inaccurate. It seems that sometimes we study his errors more than his achievements.
Many critiques of Berkeley are results of misunderstanding Berkeley s philosophy. One very famous
critique is from Samuel Johnson who lived around the same time as Berkeley. Johnson kicked a stone
and said, I refute it thus . Why did Johnson believe he could refute Berkeley by kicking a stone? Did
he misunderstand Berkeley, and if not what did he mean by this?
To discover what Johnson meant we must first learn about what he was refuting. Berkeley has three
main beliefs: 1. Idealism: the only things that exist are minds and their ideas; 2. Phenomenalism:
Physicals objects are big collections of possible senses; and 3. Immaterialism: there is no such thing as
a physical substance (something that exists independently). With Berkeley s beliefs he has two
motivations: 1. to oppose skepticism and 2. to promote religion, Berkeley was a bishop of the
Anglican church so you can see why promoting religion was so important to him.
Berkeley was an empiricist. Empiricism is the theory that all knowledge is derived from sense
experiences. Some other famous empiricists are Thomas Locke and David Hume. Berkeley is thought
to be the bridge between Locke and Hume. Locke believed that primary qualities such as length,
shape, and motion existed in the world. While secondary qualities such

The Tale Of The Crazed Hook Man Or Death By Tanning Bed
Urban legends exist in every society and change with the times adapting to the new innovations that
occur. An urban legend is a story that has been passed down through generations with the intention of
being informative whether it causes fear or joy. The only problem with urban legends is the fact that
they are so hard to be proven true. Sometimes they have actual events attached with them but are
obviously false; people try to attach relevant topics to legends to make them more believable. Some
examples of these are the tale of the crazed Hook man or death by tanning bed. Each was related to
some kind of event that was popular but it made it more believable. The legend that has caught my eye
is the tale of the Hook man because it causes fear and creates an atmosphere that is similar to a foggy
night: thick and visibility is limited. The legend adds a sense of fear and anxiety, which will discussed
in the latter part of the paper. The main focus is to show what causes these two emotions and how they
relate to the myth. The Hook man legend is about when a couple at the local Lover s Lane hears on the
radio about an escaped mental patient. This patient has been said to be headed in the direction of their
location and one hand has been replaced with a meat hook. After hearing this, the girl becomes
frightened and wants to be taken home, but at first her boyfriend doesn t want to leave. She persisted
that she be taken home right away, so the boyfriend, being understanding

The Fourth Amendment Essay
Article VI The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against
unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon
probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched,
and the persons or things to be seized. U.S. Constitutional Amendments Preface I choose the fourth
amendment for two reasons: It recognizes a right that, inevitably, cannot be taken away from a person.
It was not written out of spite, but out of experience. I personally feel like this is an issue that, had
there not been a provision in the Constitution, would have created some serious issues with the
colonists. The Fourth Amendment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This case made people think about reasoning for entering one s home. There were certain guidelines
drawn up such as murder in self defense and the allowance of a Sheriff to enter if the door is already
open). Entick v. Carrington One of the most famous cases that influenced the Fourth Amendment was
that of Entick v. Carrington. This was only one of many civil cases against officials who raided people
s homes and other places in search of materials connected with John Wilkes political pamphlets that
attack both the government and the King. Mr. Entick, who was an associate of John Wilkes, sued
because agents had entered his house forcefully and broken into desks and boxes that were locked.
They then seized pamphlets, charts, and other printed materials. The courts decided the warrant gave
the officials the right to search and seizure and the ability to issue a warrant for all a person s papers
rather than only those accused of being criminal contrary to the genius of the law of England. The
warrant was said to be invalid because it had no probable cause and no record was made of what had
been seized. The Supreme Court has said this case is a guide to understanding what the Framers meant
when writing the Fourth Amendment. Putting the Amendment to Use The reasoning for such an
amendment was obvious. What the amendment really expresses are the rights to officials and people
alike. An official

Euthanasia Is A Form Of Doctor Assisted Suicide
Euthanasia is a form of doctor assisted suicide. There are many different types of Euthanasia and all
are currently illegal in the United States with the exception of the state of Oregon. When a patient is
being Euthanized they can be given an injection intravenously which causes their death this is called
Euthanasia by action. A person could also be assisted to death through euthanasia by omission; this is
when the patient is not provided with the appropriate things such as food or water. Also patients can be
given a medication that renders them into a deep sleep in which they are left to die, either through the
progression of their illness or through starvation. The most important aspect of doctor assisted suicide
is whether it is voluntary, involuntary or non voluntary. The difference between non voluntary and
involuntary is that non voluntary is when the patient does not request to be euthanized but they are.
Involuntary euthanization is when a person specifically asks that they not be euthanized and they are.
Although euthanasia is illegal some forms of it are still regularly practiced in today s healthcare
system. Euthanasia dates back to as early as 1828 when the first law was written to outlaw anyone
from providing a person with a dangerous weapon and or a harmful chemical that would knowingly be
used in the taking of a person s own life. This would include taking the life of another person with
their permission. In 1920 the book Permitting the Destruction of Life

Social Colonialism And Social Darwinism
Social Darwinism was a sociological theory that merged Charles Darwin s theory of natural selection
and the work of Herbert Spencer, Malthus, and other scientific and sociological theorists to justify
imperialism, racism, and conservative economic policies. The overall acceptance of the power of
nature in defining human beings developed during the 18th century Enlightenment. Europe s
exploration not only brought about immense economic and agricultural growth, but also exposed them
to human behavior and life patterns within environments and under circumstances dramatically
different than their own (4). The most popular catch phrases of Darwinism, struggle for existence and
survival of the fittest , when applied to the life of man in society, suggested that nature would provide
that the best competitors in a competitive situation would win, and that this process would lead to
continuing improvement (6. Hoft). This misinterpreted sense of superiority engulfed much of society
at the time and was used to justify the logistics behind certain actions regarding capitalism, racism,
and imperialism. Furthermore, it served as the backbone of some of the most heinous acts imaginable
including the genocide and sterilization of certain groups of people.
The first business of a colonist is to clear the country of wild beasts, and the most noxious of all wild
beasts is the wild man , unknown (87). Social Darwinism was the product of late nineteenth century

The Human Genome Project Essay
The Human Genome Project is a worldwide research effort with the goal of analyzing the structure of
human DNA and determining the location of the estimated 100,000 human genes. The DNA of a set of
model organisms will be studied to provide the information necessary for understanding the
functioning of the human genome. The information gathered by the human genome project is expected
to be the source book for biomedical science in the twenty first century and will be of great value to
the field of medicine. The project will help us to understand and eventually treat more than 4,000
genetic diseases that affect mankind. The scientific products of the human genome project will include
a resource of genomic maps and DNA sequence information ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net
...
The overall budget needs for the effort are expected to be about $200 million per year for
approximately 15 years.
Lasers are used in the detection of DNA in many aspects of the project; a very important use is in
sorting chromosomes by flow cytometry. Lasers are also used in confocal fluorescence laser
microscopy to excite fluorescently tagged molecules in genome mapping, in addition to other mapping
uses. In diagnostic applications, lasers are used with fluorescent probes attached to DNA to light up
chromosomes and to create patterns on DNA chips.
From the beginning of the human genome project it was clearly recognized that acquisition and use of
such genetic knowledge would have momentous involvements for both individuals and society and
would pose a number of consequential choices for public and professional deliberation.
As Thomas Lee writes, quot;the effort underway is unlike anything ever before attempted, if
successful, it could lead to our ultimate control of human disease, aging, and death quot;.
Whatever its justification, the human genome project has already inspired society with the hope of
quot;better quot; babies, and one way to deploy pragmatism in the analysis of genetic engineering is to
look at this promise of quot;better quot; babies in its social context: parenthood. Parents hope for
healthy children and, if they could afford it, make choices (such as choosing parental care) to help
quot;engineer quot; healthier babies.

Introduction
Solvent extraction is dependent on the two liquids having different polarities so that they do not mix
with each other (Example Crude oil and water). When these two liquids are mixed together they form
separate layers, these two liquids would therefore be described as immiscible.
A lot of organic acids cannot be dissolved in water although can be dissolved when placed in organic
solvents. However, their sodium salts are soluble when mixed with water and insoluble when mixed
with organic solvents. This is mostly down to the salts being ionic and the acids are almost completely
undissociated. Sodium salts can be formed by the reaction of an organic acid with aqueous sodium
hydroxide.
RCOOH + NaOH  RCOO Na + H2O
Aim
The aim of the experiment was to purify an organic acid and to synthesise crystals of the organic
solvent. These crystals would then be used to determine the melting point and to calculate the mass of
the sample obtained.
Experimental
20cm3 of organic acid was measured in a measuring cylinder and transferred to the separating funnel.

Xenotransplantation Essay
Moral, Environmental and Cultural Issues
From the beginning, xenotransplantations have been an ethically controversial procedure and for many
diverse reasons. Diverse groups are fervently opposed to it: animal rights groups, for instance, are
undoubtedly against butchering animals to collect their organs for some human s sake. Although, most
major religions aren t resistant to the use of genetically modified xenografts to save human lives, the
proscription of pig consumption poses some dilemmas for the Jewish and Islamic communities. When
divine providence is not being used to justify the genetic engineering of animals, then some
evolutionary ethic of the strongest calls the tune or might is right seems to obtain (Sherlock Morrey,
2002, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Patients, in that case, must be entirely aware of what the procedure implies, without any outside
influence affecting their choice, and must, themselves, understand the risks and benefits of this type of
transplantation.
Also, some have suggested that family and close friends of the patient should also give consent
because of the magnitude of repercussions xenografts imply; the great possibility of diseases and
viruses crossing over to humans make the patients closest contacts at risk as well. Therefore, it is
important that those contacts be monitored to assure that a xenozoonosis is not happening. This
proposal arise another ethical question: the consent of the patient can turn out to be narrowed down if
the family and friends don t agree with putting themselves at risk and the confidentiality principles
would also be broken.
Evidently, the public s safety remains a significant element to be measured. Procedures must be in
place to protect the public from any risk due to possible outbreaks. Ergo society must understand the
risks and benefits of xenograft and consent to its application. This societal response is a very
important ethical issue according to the Ethics Committee of the International Xenotransplantation
Association and it will be hard to overcome until researches proves the achievement of a low risk
graft, resulting from genetically modified

In Beloved, Toni Morrison frequently alternates between telling stories from Sethe s past, to telling
events in the present. Morrison introduces Beloved, who serves as the link between Sethe and Paul D s

of the three characters, and how they are reactions to their pasts. Up to Beloved s arrival, Sethe and

her extended, labored journey reveals how she is determined to disrupt the troubled lives at 124.
Sethe, Paul D., and Denver, are all in some state of conflict in the current circumstances of their lives
at the beginning of the novel. Although Beloved s arrival to 124 initially brings more upset to the
lives, it eventually leads to resolution for the family. Beloved embodies many of the secrets of the
three s pasts. She symbolizes the history of the family not only with her physical appearance, but also
with the relationships she forms with the three. When Beloved arrives at 124, she appears to be in
extremely poor health. She has difficulty breathing. Sethe and Paul D. initially suspect her symptoms
are due to asthma and cholera. Although she appears to have health problems, obviously Morrison
described the apparition of Beloved as sick for symbolic reasons. Actual health problems for a ghost
are impossible, thus Beloved s choleric and asthmatic symptoms internalizes the grief and distress she
has for being murdered as an infant by her own mother. Beloved s first meeting with Sethe, Denver
and Paul D. foreshadows her relationships with the three. Paul D. and Denver try to quench Beloved s
thirst by serving her several glasses of water. Her poor health is what causes Denver to step out of her
selfish character, and care for Beloved. Up until Beloved s arrival, Denver is

The Counter Lone Wolf Terrorist Strategy
There are strains of criticism for local LEAs to be more involved in surveilling their communities.
Consequences of giving local LEAs more power will lead to issues such as creating an environment of
a police state, privacy issues, and more policing in marginalized areas of a community. It affirms the
inherent tradeoffs within homeland security giving up more privacy and freedom for a safer
environment. However, there are certain methods that may lessen the burden infringed upon the law
abiding citizenry. This is important because there is a big difference in having intentions to commit an
attack or just expressing radical beliefs. If an individual were to exercise his freedom of speech by
reading or describing radical thoughts online, it does not mean he/she intends to carry out a violent
attack. The difficulty of separating the two cases is a common problem for the intelligence community
and LEAs in identifying lone wolf terrorists.

An Analysis Of The Unknown Citizen By F. H. Auden
In the world today, society has created individuals that conform to the expected norms and those that
rebel against them. In each of the pieces selected there is a character that conforms to meet the needs
of the society. A conformist is someone who follows the rules that are given to them without any
complaints. Each of the three literary writings has a character that is considered rebellious within the
norms of society. A rebellious person is someone who does not follow the rules that are given to them.
The poem The Unknown Citizen by W. H. Auden is mainly about an unnamed man who is a
conformist, because he listens to all the rules that are made for the society. On the other hand, the
short story A P by John Updike and the play Antigone by Sophocles there is a conformist character
which enforces the rules set in place, and a rebellious character which goes against the principles of
society. Each author depicts a character to represent the conformist and rebellious individuals within
today s society.
Within the three different literary writings there is a character that acts as a conformist. W.H. Auden
created a main character in The Unknown Citizen that does not appear to want to do anything for
himself, but rather for the others within his community. In line five W.H. Auden states, for in
everything he did, he served the Greater Community (497), meaning this man is known to be a good

The exact cause has yet to be pinpointed. It is believed that specific neurotransmitters in the brain may
stop acting the way they should and therefore affect the state of the individual s mood. The impact of
hormones is also called into question because hormone imbalances, for example pregnancy and
thyroid dysfunction, are believed to cause depression. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Treatment
Many people with depression find that medications along with regular visits to a psychologist or
psychiatrist are a very effective form of treatment.
Cognitive Therapy this form of cognitive therapy starts out by educating the client on what may cause
the depression and that negative thoughts should be redirected. The therapist teaches the client how to
identify the bad thoughts as they occur throughout the day and the emotions that are associated with
them. It is helpful because once the person can identify the negative thoughts, they can begin the steps
to try to change them.
Family Therapy this therapy should be considered if the affected individual s depression begins to
affect his/her family. This treatment creates a therapeutic environment for each person to discuss their
feelings openly and encourage open communication between family members.
Hospitalization in severe cases where a person with depression has expressed suicidal thoughts or
even attempted suicide, an inpatient treatment program with constant monitoring can be very helpful.

The Education Policy Of The United States Essay
Over the years in Australia, there have become many stakeholders in establishing an education policy
in the country. The society, economics, politics and businesses play an integral role in establishing and
restructuring the education policy to suit their economic policy. Neoliberalism is defined by
Investopedia (2016) as a policy model that transfers the control of economic factor to the private
sector from the public sector . Neo Liberal approach to education believes that the value of education
lies in how well it enables the country to compete in the global market place. This can only be
achieved if schools become more like businesses by giving power to parents as consumers and
competition between schools to drive up the standards in education. Hence, the education becomes a
commodity rather than an essential basic need for everyone to benefit from. The schools operating like
businesses are called marketization. Marketization of education believes that education should train
the most abled students to enable them to fill the most important jobs. Young students should socialise
and learn collective values and build social cohesion and solidarity. The basic new right thinking is
that that the current education system cannot achieve if it is run by the state. The state provides the one
size fits all approach to education meaning that the state run education are not efficient to meet the
demands of the local area. New right thinkers Chubb and Moe argue that the

Review of My Report of a Blood Pressure Test
Recently, I have written a set of instruction draft for manually testing the blood pressure of any adult
individual and submitted it to you and the Legal department. After reviewing my report, there were
some potential issues noted in my report. Therefore, I was asked by you and Legal department to
conduct a usability test to identify any places where my instruction could be improved. I have
completed my memo report and include my findings and recommendation which eventually helps us
reduce our customer frustration in the future. To evaluate the usability test, I gathered four adult
volunteers and asked them to use the blood pressure manually according to the given instruction
manual. These volunteers performed the test one after another under my supervision. The individuals
signed the consent form before taking the test. The individuals were also given pre test and post test
before and after the test respectively. I conduct a brief survey and following is my finding on the basis
of the post test question:  50% of the volunteers performing the blood pressure test had a hard time
locating the pulse.  25% of the volunteers were unable to find the exact place to secure the cuff. 
25% of the volunteers were unable to hear the heart beats clearly while taking the systolic and
diastolic reading. Further detail of the usability test memo is discussed in the report. Although the
issues rose by the volunteers makes sense and occurred because none of them had

Benefits Of Legalizing And Regulating Uber
By legalising and regulating Uber there are several possible potential costs and benefits that society
would face.
Legalising and regulating Uber would negatively affect taxi companies since they are in competition
with Uber (Cramer Krueger, 2016). It will cause a decrease in taxi companies revenue due to sharing
the market with Uber (Rahel, 2016).
Due to more cars on the road, traffic can be negatively affected and might result in congestion. It also
leads to higher CO2 emission (Rogers, 2015).
Government regulations and restrictions such as licenses are used to protect the taxi industry from
competition (Petropoulos, 2016). Uber does not require its drivers to hold particular licenses, which
has caused the actual value of taxi licenses to be decreased (Petropoulos, 2016).
Before Uber entered the market, taxi companies benefited from regulations in place as they offered
protection from competition (Petropoulos, 2016 and Rahel, 2016). These regulations have also caused
a limitation in revenue earned by taxi companies since uber formed. Current regulations mean taxi
drivers must conduct pick up and drop offs in areas defined under the regulations whilst Uber has no
limitations regarding number of drivers or areas where drivers are to operate in. (Rahel, 2016).
Due to the increase in competition taxi drivers income has been negatively affected and there has been
a decrease in their salary (Rahel, 2016). This is forcing taxi drivers to seek alternate employment to

Essay on Calvin Coolidge
On August 2, 1923, Calvin Coolidge was vacationing at his father s home at Plymouth,Vermont when
one night he was awakened by the tragic news of Warren Harding s death. Harding ,who had been on
a public speaking tour of the West, when his health began to deteriorate, tried poorly to alleviate the
scandal that have been plaguing his presidency. Praying by candlelight, Coolidge descended the stairs
to the plain living room of his father s house, lighted only by two kerosene lamps. Upon an old
wooden business desk, a copy of the US Constitution was found and Coolidge took the oath of office,
as his father
administered him as the next president of the United States on the family Bible.

amp;#9;Coolidge was the first in his family to attend college. His years in Amherst gave Coolidge
quot;an understanding of culture, strengthened his bent toward civic service and also persuaded him of
the necessity of stability and harmony in the affairs of men. quot; ( quot;American Presidency quot;).
He later graduated with honors and became an scholar with an interest in law.
amp;#9;Graduating from Amherst in 1895, Coolidge became a lawyer in the offices of John
Hammond and Henry Field at Northampton Massachusetts. Though he practiced much law at
Northampton, he never prospered as an attorney, yet was still able to earn enough in his practice to
eventually become financially independent in such a short time. ( quot;American Presidency quot;).
amp;#9;Coolidge s association with Hammond and Field led him into politics, his second profession.
Politics came very easily to Coolidge because his father was a frequent officeholder in Vermont.
Hammond and Field themselves were active political leaders and found the young Coolidge a willing

Comparing God And Speed Limit
I believe God does everything for a reason. He makes laws so people can follow them, he doesn t just
put stuff into existing so people know it s there; he does ALL things for a reason. I believe God made
speed limits to keep people safe on the road. I can t claim everybody in the world follows them. But I
can claim that they are here for a good cause and, if people could just see that they might would
follow them.
If you don t know what a speed limit is, it is the little signs on the side of the road that have a certain
number on them that you can t go over. The speed limit is usually about 45 mph. My opinion is that
God put speed limits to watch over people, in other words to keep people safe. I can t tell you that all

Anyone who has studied ancient Egypt will be familiar with Jean Francois Champollion. He was, after

Healthcare in the United Arab Emirates
Katie Williams
Alaska Career College
Abstract
The United Arab Emirates is a Middle Eastern country full of history and culture that is modernizing
and revamping its healthcare system to better serve the needs of the people. Depending on where one
plans to visit, it is important to observe the cultural and social norms of the population.

suspenseful, thrilling journey through a country of hurt, pain, and deceit. Peter Godwin and his sister,
Georgina Godwin are caucasian farmers in their hometown of Zimbabwe. Their prime minister,
Robert Mugabe discriminates against all white farmers in his country, as he is a black man. He shows
this hatred everyday through his brutal, violent stunts. When his people get tired of his antics, they try
to put him out to make their situation better, but they only make it worse. As the book begins,
everything is definitely not perfect, actually, it is the complete opposite. Mugabe didn t want to give
up his power and he was described as a racist pig who wanted to get rid of all white people in this
country by his people. Mugabe is upset over a lost election because his ... Show more content on

Environmental Issues in North America and the World
Introduction North America has been struggling immensely since the last century with air and water
pollution, deforestation, and overpopulation. These struggles are due to poor prevention planning and
industrial manifestation. Pollution is changing the atmosphere much sooner than expected and global
warming is predicted to overwhelm the atmosphere within the next half of a century. In order to
sustain the environment and atmosphere humans must take immediate action right now. The longer we
wait to start immediate prevention, the sooner our air and water supplies will diminish. Unfortunately,
it is not only North America that needs to change it is many other countries and regions of the world.

Air Pollution and Global Warming The biggest cause of air pollution in North America comes from
carbon dioxide emissions. Fossil fuel, electricity, and vehicle technology has been an enormous
contribution to the emission of greenhouse gases. Greenhouse gases are gases that attract radiation
from the sun into the earth s exterior and its environment. Producing an overabundance of greenhouse
gases at a time may dramatically change the atmosphere as we know it today. The ozone layer that
protects human beings and many other species of plants and animals from the sun s excruciating rays
may deplete or be damaged due to too much pollution. The United States heavy demand of fossil fuels
for transportation is causing extreme confliction and competitiveness with many other countries. Japan
became so concerned with these issues that they devised a plan that could bring countries together to
compromise this extremely difficult issue. The Kyoto Protocol is a negotiation put together by the
United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The treaty was compromised
in Kyoto, Japan in 1997. Countries that formally approve this protocol devote to decrease the amount
of released greenhouse gases, or trade the number of emissions allowed from sustaining or raising the
emissions of greenhouse gases. The United States of America was not among these countries that
signed the

Polar Bears And Polar Bear
Polar Bear
Introduction
Polar bears live in the Arctic Circle with temperatures that can be minus fifty degrees Celsius. Polar
bears are considered marine mammals because they spend the majority of the life at sea, swimming
for miles, but they are the only marine mammal that has limbs and also roams on ice and land. Male
polar bears generally are twice the size of females, or sow s. An ancestor of the grizzly bear, polar
bears live in the Arctic Circle and spend majority of their time in the ocean hunting for seals. Seals
being the meal of choice for polar bears they have adapted to the harsh climate and learned how to
hunt seals (Willmer, 2004). The population size of polar bears is uncertain but Canada is responsible

Along with being translucent the bears fur is also hollow, this helps the bear swim, also preventing the
freezing water from touching the bears skin. The bears fur is also long, fine and densely packed
insulating the bear further (Willmer, 2004). The polar bear have large feet and the soles are covered in
fur, insulating the feet and also used as grip for walking on the ice and snow. The large feet surface
area on their feet also serves as grip for walking long distances searching for food. They also have
small ears which decrease risk of water getting in them. The small ears also reduce heat loss.
Diet
Polar bears are the most carnivorous of the bear family. Polar bears have large narrow heads allowing
them to fit there heard in small spaces searching for food. They have a great sense of smell allowing
them to sniff out predators form far away. They have the most sensitive nose of any mammal this
allows them to smell a seal that is three feet under the snow, or thirty kilometers away. When they do
find a seal den they jump and push all their body weight into the snow breakings free the seal from
underneath the ice. This hunting tactic mastered by polar bears acts as a surprise attack, and the seal
never knew what was coming. These bears incredible sense of smell allows them to pin point the exact
spot where the seal s den is under the ice, otherwise if the polar bear is wrong the hunt will not be
successful. This method is so important because the

Gymnasts Flexibility
Gymnastics is a modern sport that develops and displays physical agility and coordination. Flexibility
and balance are the center of gymnastics, it makes up most of this sport. Gymnasts are always trying
to figure out how to become more flexible and make their movements smoother. With flexibility,
gymnasts are able to achieve very specific positions. An experiment was done a few years ago, highly
experienced gymnasts participated in certain exercises to see if their flexibility in split leaps would
increase. This experiment lasted for about one month. During this experiment, there was an issue that
was to be faced: the gymnasts were already at their highest flexibility, they were already highly trained
on their flexibility. Therefore, there was an expectation of very little improvement in the flexibility of
their split leaps. The study consisted of the use of Thera band elastic strips. The color of Thera band
elastic strips that the gymnasts received were based on the stiffness of each strip (each color has a
different level of stiffness). When the Thera band elastic strips were ready, they were placed around
the ankles of the gymnasts. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

legs. The flexibility of the split jump was first recorded before the experiment was initiated. After the
experiment ended, the flexibility if the split jump of each gymnast was recorded again. This served as
a guideline to see if there were major or very little improvements in split jumps of each

Frist Jr. s, return to the company he and his father founded spurred a major restructuring of the company, including several divestitures of non hospital businesses and hospitals in the portfolio that did not meet the company s strategic objectives moving forward. Frist would pull off what Fortune magazine called a remarkable corporate rescue. Since 1997, the company cycled through one additional leveraged buyout for $31.6 billion. The investment group included Kohlberg Kravis Robert, Merrill Lynch, and Bain Capital. This was the second LBO for HCA in a 17 year span. At the time of its announcement, the HCA buyout was the first of several to set new records for the largest, eclipsing the 1989 buyout of RJR Nabisco. • 4. How The Rights Of Women Have Changed Since The 1960s And... As you know many things have changed since the 1960s and 1970s. For instance, women s rights. Women rights have come a long way in education, work, family life, politics, and sports. But I am writing to remind you the importance in women s work force. Women have always in a general manner...been under appreciated. It seemed however that sometimes needs made men realize or potential. You see during world war 2, nearly all women worked...this was directly related to the fact that men where away at war. Women worked both hard labor, and intelligent jobs. After they returned; women gave up their jobs and let men take over. Most women enjoyed the thought of a house life, but I don t think most knew exactly what they were getting themselves into. Some people don t find the importance, but if they did not have the option I believe they would. I am old fashioned. I can and will be the first in line. I know the importance, and hope you learn. Most of our family s females are do not work, unfortanilly they just marry and raise children...sound familiar. You now have the opportunity to grow up, finish your schooling, college, and get a great job. You can teach, discover.... run for president. You don t have a limit to what you do. Today, we are considered equals to men in society. But even today you can find those few suborn raised individuals that never seem to grasp that concept. I don t think they ever will. That is why it is important to always remember, so we can always prove those suborn people ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The Roe V. Wade Before the 1973 ruling of the case of Roe v Wade, the estimated average number of illegal abortions every year ranged from 200,000 to 1.5 million. The methods used were violently dangerous including women ingesting toxic substances such as bleach and detergents which often times was ineffective. Women around the country were concerned that the anti abortion laws conflicted with a person s right to privacy and equal protection given by the Fourth and Fourteenth Amendments of the Constitution. Gale University s William Sullivan explains The right to abort unborn children is not specifically protected by the Constitution, and prior to 1973, abortion legislation had been understood to be limited to the power of the states per the Tenth ... McCorvey was not able to provide evidence of which would prove her claim of rape to be true so she was not granted the right to abort her fetus. She then was left with a limitation of options, one being an illegal abortion clinic that she soon found out had been shut down by the police, and the other option being an old abandoned building where McCorvey stated dirty instruments were scattered around the room, and there was dried blood on the floor. McCorvey believed it was against the constitutional rights of american citizens to restrict the rights of abortion. These restricting laws were believes by many women to trap them into unfavorable alternatives such as self abortion or abortions performed by unlicensed beings with unsanitary surroundings and equipment. Desperate, McCorvey agreed to participate in a lawsuit against Henry Wade in efforts to make a difference for women around the world with the hopes of retaining her anonymity. An article on encyclopedia.com concerning the Roe v Wade case and it s background states, McCorvey chose to remain anonymous for several reasons: she feared publicity would hurt her five year old daughter, her parents were against abortion, and she had lied about being raped (p.9) thus Norma McCorvey was known as Jane Roe in the now infamous case of as Roe v. ... • 7. Analysis Of George Berkeley s Philosophy George Berkeley is considered one the greatest modern philosophers, yet when he is studied he is seen as misguided and inaccurate. It seems that sometimes we study his errors more than his achievements. Many critiques of Berkeley are results of misunderstanding Berkeley s philosophy. One very famous critique is from Samuel Johnson who lived around the same time as Berkeley. Johnson kicked a stone and said, I refute it thus . Why did Johnson believe he could refute Berkeley by kicking a stone? Did he misunderstand Berkeley, and if not what did he mean by this? To discover what Johnson meant we must first learn about what he was refuting. Berkeley has three main beliefs: 1. Idealism: the only things that exist are minds and their ideas; 2. Phenomenalism: Physicals objects are big collections of possible senses; and 3. Immaterialism: there is no such thing as a physical substance (something that exists independently). With Berkeley s beliefs he has two motivations: 1. to oppose skepticism and 2. to promote religion, Berkeley was a bishop of the Anglican church so you can see why promoting religion was so important to him. Berkeley was an empiricist. Empiricism is the theory that all knowledge is derived from sense experiences. Some other famous empiricists are Thomas Locke and David Hume. Berkeley is thought to be the bridge between Locke and Hume. Locke believed that primary qualities such as length, shape, and motion existed in the world. While secondary qualities such ... • 8. The Tale Of The Crazed Hook Man Or Death By Tanning Bed Urban legends exist in every society and change with the times adapting to the new innovations that occur. An urban legend is a story that has been passed down through generations with the intention of being informative whether it causes fear or joy. The only problem with urban legends is the fact that they are so hard to be proven true. Sometimes they have actual events attached with them but are obviously false; people try to attach relevant topics to legends to make them more believable. Some examples of these are the tale of the crazed Hook man or death by tanning bed. Each was related to some kind of event that was popular but it made it more believable. The legend that has caught my eye is the tale of the Hook man because it causes fear and creates an atmosphere that is similar to a foggy night: thick and visibility is limited. The legend adds a sense of fear and anxiety, which will discussed in the latter part of the paper. The main focus is to show what causes these two emotions and how they relate to the myth. The Hook man legend is about when a couple at the local Lover s Lane hears on the radio about an escaped mental patient. This patient has been said to be headed in the direction of their location and one hand has been replaced with a meat hook. After hearing this, the girl becomes frightened and wants to be taken home, but at first her boyfriend doesn t want to leave. The Fourth Amendment Essay Article VI The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized. U.S. Constitutional Amendments Preface I choose the fourth amendment for two reasons: It recognizes a right that, inevitably, cannot be taken away from a person. It was not written out of spite, but out of experience. I personally feel like this is an issue that, had there not been a provision in the Constitution, would have created some serious issues with the colonists. The Fourth Amendment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This case made people think about reasoning for entering one s home. There were certain guidelines drawn up such as murder in self defense and the allowance of a Sheriff to enter if the door is already open). Entick v. Carrington One of the most famous cases that influenced the Fourth Amendment was that of Entick v. Carrington. This was only one of many civil cases against officials who raided people s homes and other places in search of materials connected with John Wilkes political pamphlets that attack both the government and the King. Mr. Entick, who was an associate of John Wilkes, sued because agents had entered his house forcefully and broken into desks and boxes that were locked. They then seized pamphlets, charts, and other printed materials. The courts decided the warrant gave the officials the right to search and seizure and the ability to issue a warrant for all a person s papers rather than only those accused of being criminal contrary to the genius of the law of England. The warrant was said to be invalid because it had no probable cause and no record was made of what had been seized. The Supreme Court has said this case is a guide to understanding what the Framers meant when writing the Fourth Amendment. Putting the Amendment to Use The reasoning for such an amendment was obvious. What the amendment really expresses are the rights to officials and people alike. An official ... When a patient is being Euthanized they can be given an injection intravenously which causes their death this is called Euthanasia by action. A person could also be assisted to death through euthanasia by omission; this is when the patient is not provided with the appropriate things such as food or water. Also patients can be given a medication that renders them into a deep sleep in which they are left to die, either through the progression of their illness or through starvation. The most important aspect of doctor assisted suicide is whether it is voluntary, involuntary or non voluntary. The difference between non voluntary and involuntary is that non voluntary is when the patient does not request to be euthanized but they are. Involuntary euthanization is when a person specifically asks that they not be euthanized and they are. Although euthanasia is illegal some forms of it are still regularly practiced in today s healthcare system. Euthanasia dates back to as early as 1828 when the first law was written to outlaw anyone from providing a person with a dangerous weapon and or a harmful chemical that would knowingly be used in the taking of a person s own life. This would include taking the life of another person with their permission. In 1920 the book Permitting the Destruction of Life ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Social Colonialism And Social Darwinism Social Darwinism was a sociological theory that merged Charles Darwin s theory of natural selection and the work of Herbert Spencer, Malthus, and other scientific and sociological theorists to justify imperialism, racism, and conservative economic policies. The overall acceptance of the power of nature in defining human beings developed during the 18th century Enlightenment. Europe s exploration not only brought about immense economic and agricultural growth, but also exposed them to human behavior and life patterns within environments and under circumstances dramatically different than their own (4). The most popular catch phrases of Darwinism, struggle for existence and survival of the fittest , when applied to the life of man in society, suggested that nature would provide that the best competitors in a competitive situation would win, and that this process would lead to continuing improvement (6. Hoft). This misinterpreted sense of superiority engulfed much of society at the time and was used to justify the logistics behind certain actions regarding capitalism, racism, and imperialism. Furthermore, it served as the backbone of some of the most heinous acts imaginable including the genocide and sterilization of certain groups of people. The first business of a colonist is to clear the country of wild beasts, and the most noxious of all wild beasts is the wild man , unknown (87). The Human Genome Project Essay The Human Genome Project is a worldwide research effort with the goal of analyzing the structure of human DNA and determining the location of the estimated 100,000 human genes. The DNA of a set of model organisms will be studied to provide the information necessary for understanding the functioning of the human genome. The information gathered by the human genome project is expected to be the source book for biomedical science in the twenty first century and will be of great value to the field of medicine. The project will help us to understand and eventually treat more than 4,000 genetic diseases that affect mankind. The overall budget needs for the effort are expected to be about $200 million per year for approximately 15 years. Lasers are used in the detection of DNA in many aspects of the project; a very important use is in sorting chromosomes by flow cytometry. Lasers are also used in confocal fluorescence laser microscopy to excite fluorescently tagged molecules in genome mapping, in addition to other mapping uses. In diagnostic applications, lasers are used with fluorescent probes attached to DNA to light up chromosomes and to create patterns on DNA chips. From the beginning of the human genome project it was clearly recognized that acquisition and use of such genetic knowledge would have momentous involvements for both individuals and society and would pose a number of consequential choices for public and professional deliberation. As Thomas Lee writes, quot;the effort underway is unlike anything ever before attempted, if successful, it could lead to our ultimate control of human disease, aging, and death quot;. Whatever its justification, the human genome project has already inspired society with the hope of quot;better quot; babies, and one way to deploy pragmatism in the analysis of genetic engineering is to look at this promise of quot;better quot; babies in its social context: parenthood. Parents hope for healthy children and, if they could afford it, make choices (such as choosing parental care) to help quot;engineer quot; healthier babies. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When these two liquids are mixed together they form separate layers, these two liquids would therefore be described as immiscible. A lot of organic acids cannot be dissolved in water although can be dissolved when placed in organic solvents. However, their sodium salts are soluble when mixed with water and insoluble when mixed with organic solvents. This is mostly down to the salts being ionic and the acids are almost completely undissociated. Sodium salts can be formed by the reaction of an organic acid with aqueous sodium hydroxide. RCOOH + NaOH  RCOO Na + H2O Aim The aim of the experiment was to purify an organic acid and to synthesise crystals of the organic solvent. These crystals would then be used to determine the melting point and to calculate the mass of the sample obtained. Although, most major religions aren t resistant to the use of genetically modified xenografts to save human lives, the proscription of pig consumption poses some dilemmas for the Jewish and Islamic communities. Patients, in that case, must be entirely aware of what the procedure implies, without any outside influence affecting their choice, and must, themselves, understand the risks and benefits of this type of transplantation. Also, some have suggested that family and close friends of the patient should also give consent because of the magnitude of repercussions xenografts imply; the great possibility of diseases and viruses crossing over to humans make the patients closest contacts at risk as well. Therefore, it is important that those contacts be monitored to assure that a xenozoonosis is not happening. This proposal arise another ethical question: the consent of the patient can turn out to be narrowed down if the family and friends don t agree with putting themselves at risk and the confidentiality principles would also be broken. Evidently, the public s safety remains a significant element to be measured. Procedures must be in place to protect the public from any risk due to possible outbreaks. Ergo society must understand the risks and benefits of xenograft and consent to its application. This societal response is a very important ethical issue according to the Ethics Committee of the International Xenotransplantation Association and it will be hard to overcome until researches proves the achievement of a low risk graft, resulting from genetically modified ... In each of the pieces selected there is a character that conforms to meet the needs of the society. A conformist is someone who follows the rules that are given to them without any complaints. Each of the three literary writings has a character that is considered rebellious within the norms of society. A rebellious person is someone who does not follow the rules that are given to them. The poem The Unknown Citizen by W. H. Auden is mainly about an unnamed man who is a conformist, because he listens to all the rules that are made for the society. On the other hand, the short story A P by John Updike and the play Antigone by Sophocles there is a conformist character which enforces the rules set in place, and a rebellious character which goes against the principles of society. Each author depicts a character to represent the conformist and rebellious individuals within today s society. The society, economics, politics and businesses play an integral role in establishing and restructuring the education policy to suit their economic policy. Neoliberalism is defined by Investopedia (2016) as a policy model that transfers the control of economic factor to the private sector from the public sector . Neo Liberal approach to education believes that the value of education lies in how well it enables the country to compete in the global market place. This can only be achieved if schools become more like businesses by giving power to parents as consumers and competition between schools to drive up the standards in education. Hence, the education becomes a commodity rather than an essential basic need for everyone to benefit from. The schools operating like businesses are called marketization. Marketization of education believes that education should train the most abled students to enable them to fill the most important jobs. Young students should socialise and learn collective values and build social cohesion and solidarity. • 24. Benefits Of Legalizing And Regulating Uber By legalising and regulating Uber there are several possible potential costs and benefits that society would face. Legalising and regulating Uber would negatively affect taxi companies since they are in competition with Uber (Cramer Krueger, 2016). It will cause a decrease in taxi companies revenue due to sharing the market with Uber (Rahel, 2016). Due to more cars on the road, traffic can be negatively affected and might result in congestion. It also leads to higher CO2 emission (Rogers, 2015). Government regulations and restrictions such as licenses are used to protect the taxi industry from competition (Petropoulos, 2016). Uber does not require its drivers to hold particular licenses, which has caused the actual value of taxi licenses to be decreased (Petropoulos, 2016). Before Uber entered the market, taxi companies benefited from regulations in place as they offered protection from competition (Petropoulos, 2016 and Rahel, 2016). These regulations have also caused a limitation in revenue earned by taxi companies since uber formed. Current regulations mean taxi drivers must conduct pick up and drop offs in areas defined under the regulations whilst Uber has no limitations regarding number of drivers or areas where drivers are to operate in. Producing an overabundance of greenhouse gases at a time may dramatically change the atmosphere as we know it today. The ozone layer that protects human beings and many other species of plants and animals from the sun s excruciating rays may deplete or be damaged due to too much pollution. The United States heavy demand of fossil fuels for transportation is causing extreme confliction and competitiveness with many other countries. Japan became so concerned with these issues that they devised a plan that could bring countries together to compromise this extremely difficult issue. The Kyoto Protocol is a negotiation put together by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The treaty was compromised in Kyoto, Japan in 1997. This experiment lasted for about one month. During this experiment, there was an issue that was to be faced: the gymnasts were already at their highest flexibility, they were already highly trained on their flexibility. Therefore, there was an expectation of very little improvement in the flexibility of their split leaps. The study consisted of the use of Thera band elastic strips.
