Debi Mazar once said, A hero is somebody who is selfless, who is generous in spirit, who tries to give

who really deeply cares. In Beowulf, the Unknown Author of this Anglo Saxon poem, explains the
battle between good and evil. An Anglo Saxon Hero is someone who is loyal, who has honor and
respect, they don t do things for rewards because they ll have that sense of justice which is just as
good. They are never concerned with themselves but the wellbeing of everyone around them and that s
what makes them so great, their selfless acts change lives for the better. Beowulf exemplifies the
characteristics of an Anglo Saxon Hero because he shows bravery and courage in a way nobody else
does, he is honored by all and is beyond selfless.
First of all, Beowulf shows courage and bravery on his way to find Grendel and battle him. He runs
after him to find out where Grendel is going and why he won t let him battle, this shows bravery
because most people don t run towards danger and Beowulf did exactly that. Beowulf runs towards
danger throughout the entire poem, for example in the text it says, Have watched me rise from the
darkness of war. Dripping with my enemy s blood. I drove five great giants into chains, chased all that
raced from the earth, I swam in the blackness of night, hunting monsters out of the ocean and killing
them one by one. (247 254). This is a great quote because it shows how it takes a great amount of
bravery to battle someone that has greater than or equal strength compared to himself,(Beowulf) with
