Judicial Selection Process Analysis
According to the measure, supreme court and intermediate appellate court judges must be appointed
by the governor, confirmed by the Tennessee State Legislature, and face retention elections at the end
of their terms. This provided the state legislature with some input into the process.Which lawyers are
selected to be judges is determined by both informal and formal methods. Major Judges are selected
by three different ways. The first way is judges are appointed by executives like governors and the
president. The United States Constitution gives power to the President and Senate nominate who will
become judges. The second way is they are elected by voters Judges are chosen by a legislative
committee based on each potential judge s past performance. Some states hold retention elections to
determine if the judge should continue to serve. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Merit selection removes the courts from any politics (Neubauer Fradella, 2014). This system is
used when voters just simply have no way of deciding who makes the best fit, and who would
potentially make a good judge. I would say to avoid an unfair selection, you really cannot safely say
what is considered a better way or the best way to hire judges. I would choose the judicial selection.
By choosing this method it holds the communities accountable. But I will say that the selection of
judges would be my second choice because of the fact that presidents and governors make judicial
selections based on the backgrounds and records of candidates. So what one has brought to the table
and what one has proven to the states means a

truck needs in a prompt and professional manner.
Lube Oil Changes It s all about the Motor Oil
Prior to selecting a company that offers Mobile Lube Truck On Site Service for your lube and oil
change needs, it may be helpful to understand the importance of routine preventative maintenance in
terms of the role that it plays in keeping your truck running smoothly. An integral part to keeping your
engine running in tip top shape is the motor oil. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result, the lubricant can be used up at a more frequent rate than in other engines. Diesel trucks, in
turn, often times require lube and oil changes more frequently due to the fact that the trucks are being
used for heavy duty workloads and long distance transporting.
The primary reason for lube and oil changes is to help keep your engine running smoothly. The oil
acts as a lubricant on the engine s moving parts. As this gets used, contaminants will build up inside
the liquid. This substance makes it much more challenging for different parts of the engine to move
freely, in turn, causing your truck to work harder and less effectively.
Lube and oil changes are a part of preventative maintenance that are critical. Typically, it is
recommended that you get lube and oil changes every three to five thousand miles. Mobile Lube
Truck On Site Service companies can help to assist you with these. After visiting a Mobile Lube Truck
On Site Service company, it is always a good idea to keep track of your lube and oil changes as well
as your truck s mileage and vehicle s

Pros And Cons Of Weathering Lab
Discussion and Conclusion: I hypothesized that the four limestones being introduced to the four
different solutions used in this chemical weathering lab would weather at different rates. First, in cup
one, it was hypothesized that the 50% vinegar solution will have the greatest amount of chemical
weathering on the limestone, because the 50% vinegar solution is the strongest and most like actual
acid rains. Next, in cup two, it was hypothesized that the 10% vinegar solution will have less chemical
weathering effects than cup one, because the 10% vinegar solution has less chemical weathering
strength compared to the 50% solution. Additionally, in cup three, it was hypothesized that the soda
water solution will have less chemical weathering ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is seen all around us from headstones, to national parks, to the Statue of Liberty. First, chemical
weathering is one of the main reasons cemeteries commonly use a quartz or granite headstone instead
of limestone for today s memorial markers. The older limestone based markers have shown they
deteriorate over time from environmental factors, such as chemical weathering, and become difficult
or even impossible to read (Best Materials for Gravestones). This is also true of many older
monuments. Next, chemical weathering can be seen in national parks. In Carlsbad, New Mexico, the
Carlsbad Caverns were created due to chemical weathering. They were formed by sulfuric acid that
dissolved limestone (National Geographic, 2011). Finally, chemical weathering is also prevalent on
the Statue of Liberty. The weathering of the copper of the statue has caused oxidation resulting in a
thin layer of patina on Lady Liberty (Why is the Statue of Libery Green?). Weathering is a natural
process and some sources of chemical weathering are natural; however some causes of chemical
weathering are from human activities. Chemical compounds released into the air contribute to
chemical weathering. These compounds can come from the emissions from factories, power plants,
and automobiles. Chemical weathering speeds up the weathering process and is changing the Earth s

Summary Of The Death And Life Of Great American Cities By...
In the introduction of The Death and life of Great American Cities, Jane Jacobs acknowledges city
planning and the need for a reform by addressing the effects of beautification and the lack of resources
and support.
In her introduction of The Death and life of Great American Cities, Jane Jacobs introduces city
planning and presents the reader with real life view. She also explains the principles of planning and
the effects it contains on social and economic issues. Jacobs highlights the theory of beautification and
the lack of city planners understanding the needs of the general people. She continues by
acknowledging the Decentrists and the common disciplines with modern city planners such as

Jacobs addresses the most common idea of city planning as beautification and questions the effect it
has on restoring a neighborhood. Jacobs states Handsome is as Handsome does. All that glitters are
not gold (Jacobs 15). As much as the city can be beautified and full of parks and land it does not make
up for the needs of the people. Jacob provides the example of a housing project and a lawn; Everyone
in the housing project was upset and seem to have an opinion on having a lawn, when someone finally
asked why and bothered to listen to the people, they realized that the people wanted a space to come
together but unfortunately no one had bothered to ask. (15) Unfortunately, due to the lack of resources
it is house projects like this that are often referred to as slums. Jacobs explains that ideally tax money
would be used to fix the communities and allow for beautification. However due to economical stance
of many neighborhoods and the city planning ideology it seems close to impossible. Jacobs writes

The Impact Of Sports On College From A Professional And...
Introduction
In this paper, I will discuss the history of the development of athletics in higher education tracing roots
from England through modern day sports. I will also discuss some of the issues of sports in higher
education face and discuss some of the actions that have been taken to pacify these issues. Finally, I
will conclude this with a brief synopsis of the benefits of sports in college from a professional and non
professional activity standpoint. (FPO)
Historical Development
General History
English universities were enclosed with a structure similar to what we know as prisons today.
Universities were gated communities as a means of deterring students from engaging with the
commoners. Within these campuses, students were provided with activities that would allow for the
exhaustion of energy and physical fitness (Delbanco, 2014).(P38)
U.S. History
Early in the United States higher education system, sports were regarded as a waste of time, as
emphasis was placed on academic rigor. Since most of the American higher education system was
based on the structure of English universities, students were to take on a likeness of their professors as
further explained, an important part was...to witness social and intellectual exchange among their
superiors, in hope that they would aspire someday to be worthy of sitting among them (Delbanco,
2014, P.38). Because of this thought, and American s desire for higher achievement than the English
schools, early United States

Multistep Synthesis Lab Report
Multistep Synthesis Of Benzilic Acid From Benzaldehyde Jesus Pena L20326354 Lamar University
CHEM 3112 Spring 2017 April 26th, 2017 Abstract: Benzilic acid is used in many aspects of industry.
These types of industry are the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and food industries. This process of taking
benzaldehyde and using a multistep synthesis procedure makes making benzilic acid fairly cheap. This
is mainly due to the fact that benzaldehyde is a cheap starting material and is very resourceful. The
overall objective of the experiment was to obtain benzilic acid with the use of the multistep synthesis
procedure which consist of a benzoin condensation, oxidation of benzoin, and a final molecular
rearrangement of benzil. This is a fairly long experiment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

allowed to crystallize and the product, benzoin, was collected with vacuum filtration and washed with
cold water along with two 10ml portions of cold methanol. The second step required taking the weight
of benzoin and halving it in order to know the amount of ammonium nitrate to obtain. So, 3.142 g of

Inez Beverly Posser (1895 1934) was America s first Black female psychologist.

Why did Inez s research and conclusion cause such controversy? There are many 3 different views
that can be drawn on the research and conclusions. First, since Inez was African
American herself, this may have conflicted within her African American community. Why?
Since African Americans have been struggling for equal rights and equality in education, this would
seem to go against what her own race has been struggling to achieve. On the surface it would appear
that way. However, her research was from a psychological perspective that had not yet been
considered or researched. Ironically, her conclusions in her study in her dissertation could also be
useful as the topic of desegregation that did not come along until decades after her study. The question
that was answered even before its time, is how desegregation would effect the students themselves.
Would this have a positive or negative effect on their education? If equality was to be reached in the
public school system wouldn t this have to also mean that the
African American students would also fare better than in integrated schools? What s the use in
achieving desegregation if it is going to have such a negative impact on the African American
students? If you will notice, the word integrated is used in place of desegregation in her study since
desegregation had not yet even been addressed! As you can imagine, many different views, arguments,

Difference Between Foundationalism And Coherentism
1. What is the traditional understanding of knowledge? Explain two theories of truth. What is the
difference between foundationalism and coherentism? What is knowledge? What does knowledge
mean and how does a person get to know something? And taking the step further than that how does a
person know that the something is true? What is the basis for knowledge? There are two main forms
of knowledge; a priori and empirical. A priori is knowledge that is independent from a person s
experience and can be proven to be true by simple logic or basic definition of what is being stated. For
example 2+2=4 is considered a priori type of knowledge because it can be proven true by using the
mechanics of mathematics. The other type of knowledge is knowledge that can not be true without a
personal experience to give justification to why it is true, this knowledge is called empirical
knowledge. Empirical knowledge is much harder to prove to be true just by the nature of where the
justification comes from. An example of this is that the writing is in blue ink the statement can only be
true if I had seen for myself that the writing was done in blue ink because by definition writing does
not have to be in blue ink. To solve this problem, Plato would say that knowledge is a justified true
belief and gives us specific steps to work through this problem. This means the person making the
claim must be able to justify it in someway. The claim in itself must be true. And the person must
believe

It is really difficult to be an LGBT individual in the Philippines. For one, it s really hard to come out
as an LGBT because of the fear that our families won t accept us, or people will judge us because of
our sexual orientation and gender identity. We also see discrimination everywhere, from the
companies not accepting transgender applicants, or firing employees who do homosexual acts.... For
now, it s really difficult. But I hope that it will change through time.
Recent studies reveal that more big companies abroad are now accepting LGBT in their companies.
Discrimination among these LGBT is diminishing in other countries. They can get promoted and are

Similarities Between Neoclassicism And Neoclassical Art
From 1789 1799, the French Revolution marked the end of an era, with the artistic styles of the time
illuminating the state of affairs in France and documenting the story of an oppressed people. The
French Revolution had no single cause, resulting in the overthrow of a leisurely, ineffective monarchy
and its supporting aristocracy, hated for their roles in bankrupting a country, causing their people to
starve, and yet still prioritizing their own lives of luxury over improvement of the economy and the

Treatment Of Schizophrenia And Generalized Anxiety Disorder
Some of the common psychiatric disorders that are experienced by patients include depression,
schizophrenia and generalized anxiety disorder. The psychiatric disorders may be caused by both

The Effect Of Western Culture
Article Summary This article is focused on the effects of western culture, particularly the modern
ideals of ultra thin bodies, on non western women. The author, Jaita Talukdar, decided to spend some
time in India in order to conduct research on the topic. During her stay, she discovered many different
things about these Indian women, including what motivates them to want to lose weight, their opinion
on the current standards of beauty in western culture, and how these ideals have become ingrained into
their culture. Talukdar touched base on the existing research by Suzanne Brenner regarding beauty
standards in non western cultures, such as the idea of an in between mindset the ability of a person to
actively participate in both traditional and modern worlds and alternative modernity which centers on
the internal conflict to apply modernity while still conforming to the rules of tradition (Talukdar 112).
These concepts were the starting point for her investigation, influencing the questions that she chose
to ask. Alternative modernity was what inspired her theory of speculative modernity, in which a
woman critiques both the traditional and modern ways before applying them to her life. Previous
researchers like Hesse Biber chose to focus on how the western pageant circuit and the beauty
industry brought these ideals into India, following the loosening of the strict traditions that came with
the globalization of the country in the twentieth century. However, these

Exploring the Idea of Evil Essay example
People have constantly attempted to understand what evil truly is, and, if possible, how to eliminate
this evil from their lives. However, first it must be known what it is that is being eliminated. Different
people, cultures, and eras have all had a different view of what evil is, and how it affects their lives,
and there is no true answer. Because of this, discussing the idea of whether people are born or can be
evil is meaningless. The idea of what evil is, and whether people can be evil, is relative and cannot be
applied to human nature in a universal way.
The discussion of whether evil exists is dependent on the definition of evil. In the sense of human
action, evil can be seen as consciously doing harmful acts. The idea of what ... Show more content on

Therefore, according to Plato, no one is truly evil. However, if it seen from the perspective of others,
the act that is good for a person can be seen as evil for others. For example, if a person steals to feed
himself and his starving family, he can be seen as doing a good act because he is doing what is right
for him and for his family. However, to the storeowner, the same act is seen as evil because the thief
consciously caused harm to the storeowner. The very same act is seen as both good and evil,
dependant on the perspective that the act is seen from.
Although evil is dependent on the viewpoint from which it is seen from, some philosophers, such as
Lyall Watson, doubt that evil exists at all. According to Watson, evil is a force of nature and is a part of
nature, and as such, it can be said that evil is an illusion that does not exist. However, according to
dualism, this is not possible. Evil can only coexist with good, regardless of whether it is universal or
not. If no evil existed, then all actions would now be varying degrees of good. The least good act
would then be considered evil, and evil would once again exist. Because good and evil are opposites,
one cannot exist without the other. Also, supposing that all evil did not exist, the only alternative
action would be good. Therefore, if evil is taken away, or does not exist, then people would

Stereotypes In The Help
The Help: A Discussion of Reality Kathryn Stockett s The Help is a novel set in 1960s Jackson,
Mississippi and follows the lives of two black maids, Minny and Aibileen, and a privileged young
white woman, Eugenia Skeeter Phelan. Together these three women set out to compile a book
explaining how it is to work as a black maid in Jackson. While some critics argue The Help
perpetuates black stereotypes and confines black women into Mammy roles, the novel actually

In fact the character with the most noticeable change is Minny. At the beginning of the novel, Minny
is closed off, in constant fear of losing her job and stuck in an abusive marriage. Even when she
decides to help Skeeter with her book, Minny remains guarded and almost reluctant to tell her
everything. Yet, at the end of the novel, Minny not only is noticeably relaxed around Skeeter, but even
offers her life advice such as running her white butt to New York when Skeeter gets offered her dream
job (Stockett 499). Minny also leaves her abusive husband, Leroy, after a particular volatile attack that
leaves her standing barefoot and [at] rock bottom [at] the gas station, when she realizes that for the
first time in her life, she has a secure job, Leroy s once needed support is now gone, and that she has
the potential to be so much more than an abused wife (515). Minny Jackson is the pinnacle of
development among the three narrators of the novel, and yet ABWH claims Skeeter is the main
character. Another example is Aibileen, who at the beginning feels she does not have much left to
offer in her older age, claims in the final few lines that maybe it is not too late to start anew (522). If
The Help really is a coming of age story about Skeeter, then this revelation of Aibileen s would not be

The Ugliness Of Human Nature In Wuthering Heights
Human beings can be truly deranged creatures. Often times they are seen as elevating and putting
themselves on a pedestal. They will treat people who are not the same as them as they are garbage and
worthless. Although it is not their fault to simply put it, it is human nature. More specifically the
ugliness of human nature. The complex characters in Wuthering Heights are guilty of this. Their
circumstances drive them to do unthinkable things which unfortunately have drastic outcomes. Emily
Bronte s Wuthering Heights is a beautifully written novel that shows the ugliness of human nature as
seen through the depiction of toxic relationships, displaying revenge and vengeance in the
differentiation of social class.
The ugliness of human nature is undoubtedly shown through toxic relationships in Wuthering Heights.
They toxicity can be shown through almost every character relationship. The bain of toxic
relationships can be shown right in the beginning of the novel with Hindley and Heathcliff. They
immediately get off on the wrong foot all because one of them chooses to let their ugliness take over.
Hindley is extremely jealous of Heathcliff, ...and is subject to Hindley s jealousy almost right away
(Galt). His jealousy sparks from the fact that his father seems to favour Heathcliff over him. This does
Heathcliff no favours as it causes Hindley to be cruel and brutal towards him. Infact, on several
occasions Hindley can be found almost abusing Heathcliff, Take my colt, Gipsy, then! said young
Earnshaw. And I pray that he may break your neck: take him, and he damned, you beggarly interloper!
and wheedle my father out of all he has. (Bronte 4) and Off dog! cried Hindley, threatening him with
an iron weight used for weighing potatoes and hay. (Bronte 45). The abuse and hatred that Heathcliff
receives from such a young age cause him to give the same treatment in the other relationships in his
life. In Heathcliff s relationship with Isabella he can be seen showing the same abuse towards her,
Heathcliff seized, and thrust Isabella from the room; and returned muttering I have no pity! I have no
pity! The more the worms writhe, the more I yearn to crush out their entrails! It is a moral teething;

Informative Essay On Sphynx Cats
If you ve ever looked at cat videos online, chances are you have seen ones with cats that have no hair.
They may bear a resemblance to aliens, but they are real cats, referred to as the Sphynx. Though some
people are put off by the appearance of this breed, others are intrigued and find them endearing. If you
are part of the second group, you might be interested in owning a Sphynx cat for yourself and what is
involved in buying and owning one. The truth is that there is no universal yes or no answer for
whether the Sphynx is the appropriate cat to own, as it largely depends on the owner s specific needs
and abilities. To know if the Sphynx is the right cat for you, many aspects must be looked into.
The first thing anyone notices about Sphynx ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In contrast to the introverted personalities of other cats, Sphynxes crave attention, and tend to be
friendlier around strangers. They are often compared to dogs for this reason. If you have a Sphynx,
especially a young one, expect it to be very hyperactive, running and jumping all over the place. This
is a high energy cat which can perform acrobatic tricks, much like a monkey. (PetMD) These cats have
boundless energy, so much time should be allotted to playing with them so they do not become bored
and stressed. They are also very curious and exploratory, making sure to inspect just about anything
they can find. Safety measures should be taken for items that your cat could easily open or ingest.
Sphynx cats are generally more affectionate with their owners, and can be very emotionally dependent
on them too. Sphynx cats can get stressed easily, and are prone to separation anxiety. PetHelpful
states, If you are leaving the house for long periods of time, your Sphynx s heart is going to break.
Unless you have a companion for it, it is going to become depressed. (PetHelpful) It is not
recommended to spend a long time away from your Sphynx, even if you hire a petsitter to feed it, as it
craves the physical affection of its owners. The upside to dealing with this potential issue is that you
would end up with a very loyal cat, who will provide much love and affection, that for many people it
is worth all the trouble

Alien Acts Dbq
John Adams and many other Federalists alongside him brought in a new law into play during 1798
that would change the way many Americans viewed the government. Adams introduced the Alien and
Sedition Acts to Congress while he was the former President of the United States. The way of these
Acts were simple, the first being an Alien Act which main focus was to make the United States more
secure from alien (foreign) spies and domestic traitors(Citation). The second Act was the Sedition Act,
which made it illegal for anyone to express any false scandals. Overall these Acts had a great impact,
not only on citizens but also Congress itself. In turn because of these Acts, the American political
debates during the early 1800s was greatly impacted. These Alien and Sedition Acts greatly affected
and influenced the people and government of America in the late 18th century and early 19th century.

Thomas Jefferson s Democratic Republican Party (Citation). The Naturalization Act increased the
time to become a citizen in the United States from just five years to 14 years. In turn this would
decrease the growth of Jefferson s political party (Citation). The Alien Enemies Act enforce that once
a war had been declared, all male citizens of an enemy nation could be arrested, detained, and
deported against their will(Citation). Lastly the Alien Friends Act issued that any non citizen suspected
of plotting against the government could be deported by the President. However, this law was only

Re: Proposing further research into the effectiveness of different types of prison system around the
world in order to make prisons in California more rehabilitating
Dear Mrs. Bowlds,
While investigating the correlation between the way in which the United States prison system treats its
prisoners, and the amount of people who return to prison after release, it became apparent to me that
there must be better ways to punish people for the crime they committed while ... Show more content

The report also sheds light on some factors that affect recidivism including the fact that 73% of the
recidivists committed a new crime or violated parole within the first year of their release from prison.
Such high prison recidivism rates represent a complete failure of the prison system to achieve its
supposed goals of deterrence and rehabilitation. I believe that it is possible to improve the state prisons
in California, in an effort to lower recidivism rates by researching different prison systems all around
the world and making calculated adjustments accordingly. One country in particular that has a prison
system vastly different from that of the United States is Germany. In German prisons, the men serving
time wore their own clothes, not prison uniforms. Each cell was bright with natural light, decorated
with personalized items such as wall hangings, plants, family photos and colorful linens brought from
home. Each cell also had its own bathroom separate from the sleeping area and a phone to call home

Summary Of The Feminine Mystique
In the The Feminine Mystique, by Betty Friedan, the author begins to question the problem that has no
name, which is, Why are American housewives so unhappy with their supposedly perfect lives ?
Friedan concludes that the reason American housewives are so depressed is that of, the feminine
mystique, society s idea that women s sole purpose in life is to bring pleasure to a man, be a housewife
and mother, but nothing more. In the 50 s and 60 s, all American women had been told their whole
lives is that they shouldn t get a job or follow their dreams, but find a well off husband and start a
family. Now that they have accomplished this, women want more in life than just waiting on their
family, because of the feeling that they are just going through the motions of life. However, society
does not allow women to grow to their full potential and brainwashes the mystique into women s
heads by painting the housewife image as an ideal in women s magazines, ads, signs, etc.
Furthermore, because the mystique is so influential, women not only damage themselves, but their
husbands and children; Women begin to seek their fulfillment through too much sexual intercourse,
which drives the husband away, and is so involved in their children s lives, that they grow up to be
whiny, mother dependent adults. In the end, women finally begin to not only question the feminine
mystique but act against it. Moreover, throughout the story, Friedan s style uses conflict development

Are Prisons Obsolete, By Angela Davis
Prompt 2 First Draft
Prison Industrial Complex (PIC) is a term used to describe the overlapping interests of government
and industry that use surveillance, policing, and imprisonment as solutions to social, economic, and
political problems. Angela Davis is a journalist and American political activist who believes that the
U.S practice of super incarceration is closer to new age slavery than any system of criminal justice.
She defines the PIC as biased for criminalizing communities of color and used to make profit for
corporations from the prisoner s suffering. In her book, Are Prisons Obsolete?, she argues that the
prison systems are no longer in use and out of date since prisons just keep increasing as each become
more and more populated. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both Luis Valdez and Peter Malae represented the PIC as a social problem of segregating people from
different races, meaning that the prisoners would only be surrounded by people of the same race as
themselves. In addition, Lis Valdez and Peter Malae also concentrated on representing the PIC as
formation of problems occurring from isolating prisoners in their cells without any contact from
anyone or anything. One of the differences between the way that Luis Valdez and Peter Malae
represent the PIC is that Luis Valdez focuses on the issue of mass media images revolving around
Mexicans/Mexican Descents. This issue uses media to keep stereotypes alive of Mexican/Mexican
Descents that makes all of them perceived as criminals. Another difference between the way that Peter
Malae and Luis Valdez represent the PIC is that Peter Malae focuses on the lack of freedom and
surveillance of this system. In this topic, Peter Malae creates a menacing mood for the audience that
allows them to feel the feeling of living in jail with the fear of getting punished and tortured while also
having to be conscious of his/her actions (lack of freedom) around

The Treatment Of Bibi Haldar By Jhumpa Lahiri
This excerpt from The Treatment of Bibi Haldar by Jhumpa Lahiri has multiple themes, but one that
really stands out above others is the effects of ignorance. One would disagree with my choice of
theme, but one must not be so rash with their disagreement, first you must look at the writing
techniques and the choice of words that Lahiri uses in the excerpt. The ignorance in which I talk about
circulates around Bibi s family. If Lahiri describes her events in chronological order, which I believe
she does, then we can see that in the first paragraph, the family first expresses their ignorance of this
poor girl s illness when they contact priests, religion, etc. in order to heal their daughter instead of
official medical specialists. In the following paragraph, the author informs us of the many specialists
in the medical field that the family had contacted in regards to Bibi s ailment. None of ... Show more

This room was incredibly small, the type that would get unbearably hot in summer, and freezing cold
in winter. Small, stuffy rooms, such as Bibi s, are breading grounds for diseases and bacteria. On top
of that, she has to work in order to get cotton for clothes, not even clothes; she also had to work for
her daily meals, and provisions. These factors are not uncontrollable factors, nor are they factors that
are unchangeable, but do to her family s ignorance, these factors exist Unfortunately, Bibi is forced to
live like this, and due to her own ignorance, she doesn t know any better.
Ignorance can have so many negative effects. Lahiri shows us evidence of the ignorance in each of the
paragraphs from the excerpt; the words she chooses in the paragraphs help the reader recognize her
theme, being ignorance. Lahiri has taught us that ignorance is truly NOT bliss; in fact, it s the opposite
of bliss. Ignorance does not only cause sorrow, sadness, unhappiness, and pain unto yourself but also

Masks In Ancient Greek Mythology
Elektra, who plotted a revenge with her brother Orestes against their mother Clytemnestra and
stepfather Aegisthus for the murder of their father Agamemnon, is a very significant and complex
character in ancient Greek mythology. In the opera Elektra by Richard Strauss and Hugo von
Hofmannsthal, there are some distinct stylistic features from Classical Greek theater. They are masks,
customs and chorus. In ancient Greek theater, masks are significant element in ceremony and
celebration. Greeks believed that the way in which the mask was to melt into the face and allow the
actor to vanish into the role. In the opera Elektra we watched, all the character were maked up with
exaggerated colors and style, which looked like masks on actors

Different Types Of Cholesterol Levels
Reading all of this might be a little bit difficult to understand however, if you do not know of the
different types of cholesterol. The two main types, as found on WebMD, are low density lipoprotein
cholesterol (LDL), also known as the bad cholesterol, and high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL),
also called good cholesterol ( Understanding Cholesterol Numbers ). The weird factor about running is
that while it does reduce the levels of LDL, it increases the levels of HDL. The American Heart
Association considers HDL to be the good cholesterol because it may protect you from heart disease
by transporting cholesterol out of your arteries (Cavazos 1). This article also reads,

Running can also help the population of patients with heart disease by helping to improve their
oxygen intake. As found in an article written by Jonathan Myers, it was stated that As one s ability to
transport and use oxygen improves, regular daily activities can be performed with less fatigue. This is
particularly important for patients with cardiovascular disease, whose exercise capacity is typically
lower than that of healthy individuals (1). So not only can running help reduce the chances of
accumulating heart disease over the years, but it can also help certain patients who unfortunately
already have coronary heart disease (CHD). It may be surprising to hear, but the way running effects
your physical body system, also leads to affecting the brain. The amount of oxygen your body
produces can improve the amount of oxygen and minerals your brain consumes. This leads into the
next benefit of running. Running not only has physical health benefits, as listed above, but is also
known for having psychological benefits. One of the most commonly known benefits is the runners
high . This is a happy and energizing sensation that some runners feel once they get done with a run.
The reason this occurs is as described in an article by Keith Hillman as through the production of
certain hormones associated with feeling good. Running will help you to produce serotonin and
dopamine (1). The amounts of serotonin and dopamine are the

New Moon By Stephenie Meyer
Classify
New Moon is a romance novel, and you can find this book at the library. Stephenie Meyer is the
author of the Twilight Saga. Stephenie graduated from Brigham Young University, with a degree in
English literature. She lives with her husband, and her sons in Arizona. She is a delightful author that
writes adventurous books. The vocabulary and reading level is considered a high school level novel.
New Moon is intended for teenage girls from ninth to twelfth grade; enjoy reading about vampires.
Compare
Another book that Stephanie Meyer has written is The Host. The Host is similar to New Moon
because they are both considered a romantic fiction genre. Another similarity is both novels are based
of supernatural characters. Most of Stephenie Meyer s books are romance novels, science fiction, and
attracts most of the younger generations. She writes her books based off of dreams she s had. New
Moon is different from the movie because in the novel it mentions a lot more details than the movie.
In the novel, Jasper no longer attends high school, and was a senior the previous year. In the movie,
Jasper attends high school, and he is in the same grade as Bella. In the novel, Edward discards his
phone and is answered by somebody in Brazil. In the movie, Edward crushes his phone so that nobody

Best PCEP Classes
The Good Part of School: The Best PCEP Classes All of the best classes to take at PCEP share similar
qualities. They are all easy, fun, and elective based. Although a few are somewhat related to core
classes, they are still interesting nonetheless. I speak from experience because I have taken (or are
currently taking) almost all of the classes on this list. The most common quality that some classes
share is that they are easy. The easiest class of all would be Combination Rackets. All that is required
is to show up and participate. It s hard to not get an A unless attendance is an issue. Another really
easy class is Photoshop. There is never any homework and the majority of the graded work is the tests
that are given every once in a while. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The best electives to take are the gym classes. They are the most enjoyable overall because they are
both fun and easy. They can also potentially help boost a student s GPA because of how easy it is to
get an A. Another category of good electives are Auto classes. They re pretty simple and students can
get a lot of work accomplished in there, like doing repairs on a car belonging to a kid in the class.
There are opportunities to learn all the advanced techniques of mechanics in order to use them in the
future for fixing up cars. The third and most interesting category of electives is electronics classes, like
Photoshop and Web Design. They teach students a lot about computer skills and are really easy. They
can also be enjoyable sometimes when the class does special projects that involve students using
creativity to make something, like a website or a picture. In summary, they are lots of different types
of PCEP electives that are worth

The Trickster in Anne Rice s Interview with the Vampire...
The Trickster in Anne Rice s Interview with the Vampire
Vampires today, particularly after Anne Rice s five book series, the Vampire Chronicles, are portrayed
in quite a different light than the vampires of ages past. Gone is the garlic and cross that offers
protection, gone is the vampire s fear of all light and gone is their distant, in human nature. (Whyte 2)
In fact, most vampires are portrayed as both beast and man, struggling to retain their humanity as the
lust for blood seems to never diminish and eternal as they are, their inner conflict spans to infinity.
This duplicity is highly reminiscent of the paradoxical nature of the trickster archetype. Tricksters
embrace creation just as easily as they revel in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Traditional scholarship differentiates any tangible entity that fulfills the trickster criteria as clown.
Trickster research is confusing at this point because it calls tricksters mythic entities found in folklore
and in legends. Therefore, a trickster is more than just an idea; it may also be a mythic creature. (Kim
ix) For the purposes of this essay I will refer to the trickster first as an idea, as a set of elements and
then exemplify these characteristics using mythic entities as a form of illustration.
Tricksters are usually associated with a host of negative elements such as stubbornness, chicanery,
duplicity, cruelty, greed, gluttony, and avarice; (Musinsky) although their unifying elements are
selfishness, egoism and self centeredness. As mentioned before tricksters are amoral, or, to use a
Nietzsche s phrase: beyond good and evil. According to Radini, a well known trickster scholar, the
trickster possesses no values, moral or social, is at the mercy of his passions and appetites, yet through
his actions all values come into being. (xxiii) Almost all tricksters are megalomaniacs, a trait that is
not necessarily negative, according to the aforementioned Nietschean view of the world. Every living
thing seeks to discharge its strength life itself is will to power. This innate characteristic of life is of
absolute value and acceptance of the will to power in all its sublime manifestations, both beautiful and

  • 2. Judicial Selection Process Analysis According to the measure, supreme court and intermediate appellate court judges must be appointed by the governor, confirmed by the Tennessee State Legislature, and face retention elections at the end of their terms. This provided the state legislature with some input into the process.Which lawyers are selected to be judges is determined by both informal and formal methods. Major Judges are selected by three different ways. The first way is judges are appointed by executives like governors and the president. The United States Constitution gives power to the President and Senate nominate who will become judges. The second way is they are elected by voters Judges are chosen by a legislative committee based on each potential judge s past performance. Some states hold retention elections to determine if the judge should continue to serve. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Merit selection removes the courts from any politics (Neubauer Fradella, 2014). This system is used when voters just simply have no way of deciding who makes the best fit, and who would potentially make a good judge. I would say to avoid an unfair selection, you really cannot safely say what is considered a better way or the best way to hire judges. I would choose the judicial selection. By choosing this method it holds the communities accountable. But I will say that the selection of judges would be my second choice because of the fact that presidents and governors make judicial selections based on the backgrounds and records of candidates. So what one has brought to the table and what one has proven to the states means a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As a result, the lubricant can be used up at a more frequent rate than in other engines. Diesel trucks, in turn, often times require lube and oil changes more frequently due to the fact that the trucks are being used for heavy duty workloads and long distance transporting. The primary reason for lube and oil changes is to help keep your engine running smoothly. The oil acts as a lubricant on the engine s moving parts. As this gets used, contaminants will build up inside the liquid. This substance makes it much more challenging for different parts of the engine to move freely, in turn, causing your truck to work harder and less effectively. Lube and oil changes are a part of preventative maintenance that are critical. Typically, it is recommended that you get lube and oil changes every three to five thousand miles. • 4. Pros And Cons Of Weathering Lab Discussion and Conclusion: I hypothesized that the four limestones being introduced to the four different solutions used in this chemical weathering lab would weather at different rates. First, in cup one, it was hypothesized that the 50% vinegar solution will have the greatest amount of chemical weathering on the limestone, because the 50% vinegar solution is the strongest and most like actual acid rains. Next, in cup two, it was hypothesized that the 10% vinegar solution will have less chemical weathering effects than cup one, because the 10% vinegar solution has less chemical weathering strength compared to the 50% solution. Additionally, in cup three, it was hypothesized that the soda water solution will have less chemical weathering ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is seen all around us from headstones, to national parks, to the Statue of Liberty. First, chemical weathering is one of the main reasons cemeteries commonly use a quartz or granite headstone instead of limestone for today s memorial markers. The older limestone based markers have shown they deteriorate over time from environmental factors, such as chemical weathering, and become difficult or even impossible to read (Best Materials for Gravestones). This is also true of many older monuments. Next, chemical weathering can be seen in national parks. In Carlsbad, New Mexico, the Carlsbad Caverns were created due to chemical weathering. They were formed by sulfuric acid that dissolved limestone (National Geographic, 2011). Finally, chemical weathering is also prevalent on the Statue of Liberty. The weathering of the copper of the statue has caused oxidation resulting in a thin layer of patina on Lady Liberty (Why is the Statue of Libery Green?). Weathering is a natural process and some sources of chemical weathering are natural; however some causes of chemical weathering are from human activities. Chemical compounds released into the air contribute to chemical weathering. These compounds can come from the emissions from factories, power plants, and automobiles. Chemical weathering speeds up the weathering process and is changing the Earth s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the introduction of The Death and life of Great American Cities, Jane Jacobs acknowledges city planning and the need for a reform by addressing the effects of beautification and the lack of resources and support. In her introduction of The Death and life of Great American Cities, Jane Jacobs introduces city planning and presents the reader with real life view. She also explains the principles of planning and the effects it contains on social and economic issues. Jacobs states Handsome is as Handsome does. All that glitters are not gold (Jacobs 15). As much as the city can be beautified and full of parks and land it does not make up for the needs of the people. Jacob provides the example of a housing project and a lawn; Everyone in the housing project was upset and seem to have an opinion on having a lawn, when someone finally asked why and bothered to listen to the people, they realized that the people wanted a space to come together but unfortunately no one had bothered to ask. (15) Unfortunately, due to the lack of resources it is house projects like this that are often referred to as slums. Jacobs explains that ideally tax money would be used to fix the communities and allow for beautification. Introduction In this paper, I will discuss the history of the development of athletics in higher education tracing roots from England through modern day sports. I will also discuss some of the issues of sports in higher education face and discuss some of the actions that have been taken to pacify these issues. Finally, I will conclude this with a brief synopsis of the benefits of sports in college from a professional and non professional activity standpoint. (FPO) Historical Development General History English universities were enclosed with a structure similar to what we know as prisons today. Universities were gated communities as a means of deterring students from engaging with the commoners. Within these campuses, students were provided with activities that would allow for the exhaustion of energy and physical fitness (Delbanco, 2014).(P38) U.S. History Early in the United States higher education system, sports were regarded as a waste of time, as emphasis was placed on academic rigor. Since most of the American higher education system was based on the structure of English universities, students were to take on a likeness of their professors as further explained, an important part was...to witness social and intellectual exchange among their superiors, in hope that they would aspire someday to be worthy of sitting among them (Delbanco, 2014, P.38). Multistep Synthesis Lab Report Multistep Synthesis Of Benzilic Acid From Benzaldehyde Jesus Pena L20326354 Lamar University CHEM 3112 Spring 2017 April 26th, 2017 Abstract: Benzilic acid is used in many aspects of industry. These types of industry are the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and food industries. This process of taking benzaldehyde and using a multistep synthesis procedure makes making benzilic acid fairly cheap. This is mainly due to the fact that benzaldehyde is a cheap starting material and is very resourceful. The overall objective of the experiment was to obtain benzilic acid with the use of the multistep synthesis procedure which consist of a benzoin condensation, oxidation of benzoin, and a final molecular rearrangement of benzil. This is a fairly long experiment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once reflux was done mixture was allowed to crystallize and the product, benzoin, was collected with vacuum filtration and washed with cold water along with two 10ml portions of cold methanol. The second step required taking the weight of benzoin and halving it in order to know the amount of ammonium nitrate to obtain. So, 3.142 g of ammonium nitrate and 35ml of acetic acid were added into a round bottom flask and ammonium nitrate was allowed to dissolve. 0.165 g of copper (II) acetate and the benzoin were added to the round bottom flask. Women in Psychology Psy 310 Essay Women In Psychology by Phoenix University PSY 310 Aril 28, 2012 1 Inez Beverly Prosser, Psychologist Inez Beverly Posser (1895 1934) was America s first Black female psychologist. http://www.apa.org/monitor/2008/11/prosser.aspx . Not only is this significant in itself, it is also the adversity she overcame growing up to get there. There are many 3 different views that can be drawn on the research and conclusions. First, since Inez was African American herself, this may have conflicted within her African American community. Why? Since African Americans have been struggling for equal rights and equality in education, this would seem to go against what her own race has been struggling to achieve. On the surface it would appear that way. However, her research was from a psychological perspective that had not yet been considered or researched. Ironically, her conclusions in her study in her dissertation could also be useful as the topic of desegregation that did not come along until decades after her study. The question that was answered even before its time, is how desegregation would effect the students themselves. Would this have a positive or negative effect on their education? If equality was to be reached in the public school system wouldn t this have to also mean that the African American students would also fare better than in integrated schools? What s the use in achieving desegregation if it is going to have such a negative impact on the African American students? If you will notice, the word integrated is used in place of desegregation in her study since desegregation had not yet even been addressed! • 10. Difference Between Foundationalism And Coherentism 1. What is the traditional understanding of knowledge? Explain two theories of truth. What is the difference between foundationalism and coherentism? What is knowledge? What does knowledge mean and how does a person get to know something? And taking the step further than that how does a person know that the something is true? What is the basis for knowledge? There are two main forms of knowledge; a priori and empirical. A priori is knowledge that is independent from a person s experience and can be proven to be true by simple logic or basic definition of what is being stated. For example 2+2=4 is considered a priori type of knowledge because it can be proven true by using the mechanics of mathematics. The other type of knowledge is knowledge that can not be true without a personal experience to give justification to why it is true, this knowledge is called empirical knowledge. Empirical knowledge is much harder to prove to be true just by the nature of where the justification comes from. An example of this is that the writing is in blue ink the statement can only be true if I had seen for myself that the writing was done in blue ink because by definition writing does not have to be in blue ink. To solve this problem, Plato would say that knowledge is a justified true belief and gives us specific steps to work through this problem. This means the person making the claim must be able to justify it in someway. The claim in itself must be true. And the person must believe ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. The Effect Of Western Culture Article Summary This article is focused on the effects of western culture, particularly the modern ideals of ultra thin bodies, on non western women. The author, Jaita Talukdar, decided to spend some time in India in order to conduct research on the topic. During her stay, she discovered many different things about these Indian women, including what motivates them to want to lose weight, their opinion on the current standards of beauty in western culture, and how these ideals have become ingrained into their culture. Talukdar touched base on the existing research by Suzanne Brenner regarding beauty standards in non western cultures, such as the idea of an in between mindset the ability of a person to actively participate in both traditional and modern worlds and alternative modernity which centers on the internal conflict to apply modernity while still conforming to the rules of tradition (Talukdar 112). These concepts were the starting point for her investigation, influencing the questions that she chose to ask. Alternative modernity was what inspired her theory of speculative modernity, in which a woman critiques both the traditional and modern ways before applying them to her life. Previous researchers like Hesse Biber chose to focus on how the western pageant circuit and the beauty industry brought these ideals into India, following the loosening of the strict traditions that came with the globalization of the country in the twentieth century. • 19. Exploring the Idea of Evil Essay example People have constantly attempted to understand what evil truly is, and, if possible, how to eliminate this evil from their lives. However, first it must be known what it is that is being eliminated. Different people, cultures, and eras have all had a different view of what evil is, and how it affects their lives, and there is no true answer. Because of this, discussing the idea of whether people are born or can be evil is meaningless. The idea of what evil is, and whether people can be evil, is relative and cannot be applied to human nature in a universal way. The discussion of whether evil exists is dependent on the definition of evil. In the sense of human action, evil can be seen as consciously doing harmful acts. The idea of what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, according to Plato, no one is truly evil. However, if it seen from the perspective of others, the act that is good for a person can be seen as evil for others. For example, if a person steals to feed himself and his starving family, he can be seen as doing a good act because he is doing what is right for him and for his family. However, to the storeowner, the same act is seen as evil because the thief consciously caused harm to the storeowner. The very same act is seen as both good and evil, dependant on the perspective that the act is seen from. Although evil is dependent on the viewpoint from which it is seen from, some philosophers, such as Lyall Watson, doubt that evil exists at all. According to Watson, evil is a force of nature and is a part of nature, and as such, it can be said that evil is an illusion that does not exist. However, according to dualism, this is not possible. Evil can only coexist with good, regardless of whether it is universal or not. If no evil existed, then all actions would now be varying degrees of good. The least good act would then be considered evil, and evil would once again exist. Because good and evil are opposites, one cannot exist without the other. Also, supposing that all evil did not exist, the only alternative action would be good. Therefore, if evil is taken away, or does not exist, then people would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They will treat people who are not the same as them as they are garbage and worthless. Although it is not their fault to simply put it, it is human nature. More specifically the ugliness of human nature. The complex characters in Wuthering Heights are guilty of this. Their circumstances drive them to do unthinkable things which unfortunately have drastic outcomes. Emily Bronte s Wuthering Heights is a beautifully written novel that shows the ugliness of human nature as seen through the depiction of toxic relationships, displaying revenge and vengeance in the differentiation of social class. The ugliness of human nature is undoubtedly shown through toxic relationships in Wuthering Heights. They toxicity can be shown through almost every character relationship. The bain of toxic relationships can be shown right in the beginning of the novel with Hindley and Heathcliff. They immediately get off on the wrong foot all because one of them chooses to let their ugliness take over. Hindley is extremely jealous of Heathcliff, ...and is subject to Hindley s jealousy almost right away (Galt). His jealousy sparks from the fact that his father seems to favour Heathcliff over him. This does Heathcliff no favours as it causes Hindley to be cruel and brutal towards him. The abuse and hatred that Heathcliff receives from such a young age cause him to give the same treatment in the other relationships in his life. In Heathcliff s relationship with Isabella he can be seen showing the same abuse towards her, Heathcliff seized, and thrust Isabella from the room; and returned muttering I have no pity! Summary Of The Feminine Mystique In the The Feminine Mystique, by Betty Friedan, the author begins to question the problem that has no name, which is, Why are American housewives so unhappy with their supposedly perfect lives ? Friedan concludes that the reason American housewives are so depressed is that of, the feminine mystique, society s idea that women s sole purpose in life is to bring pleasure to a man, be a housewife and mother, but nothing more. In the 50 s and 60 s, all American women had been told their whole lives is that they shouldn t get a job or follow their dreams, but find a well off husband and start a family. Now that they have accomplished this, women want more in life than just waiting on their family, because of the feeling that they are just going through the motions of life. However, society does not allow women to grow to their full potential and brainwashes the mystique into women s heads by painting the housewife image as an ideal in women s magazines, ads, signs, etc. Furthermore, because the mystique is so influential, women not only damage themselves, but their husbands and children; Women begin to seek their fulfillment through too much sexual intercourse, which drives the husband away, and is so involved in their children s lives, that they grow up to be whiny, mother dependent adults. The easiest class of all would be Combination Rackets. All that is required is to show up and participate. It s hard to not get an A unless attendance is an issue. The Trickster in Anne Rice s Interview with the Vampire Vampires today, particularly after Anne Rice s five book series, the Vampire Chronicles, are portrayed in quite a different light than the vampires of ages past. Gone is the garlic and cross that offers protection, gone is the vampire s fear of all light and gone is their distant, in human nature. (Whyte 2) In fact, most vampires are portrayed as both beast and man, struggling to retain their humanity as the lust for blood seems to never diminish and eternal as they are, their inner conflict spans to infinity. This duplicity is highly reminiscent of the paradoxical nature of the trickster archetype. Tricksters embrace creation just as easily as they revel in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Traditional scholarship differentiates any tangible entity that fulfills the trickster criteria as clown. Trickster research is confusing at this point because it calls tricksters mythic entities found in folklore and in legends. Therefore, a trickster is more than just an idea; it may also be a mythic creature. (Kim ix) For the purposes of this essay I will refer to the trickster first as an idea, as a set of elements and then exemplify these characteristics using mythic entities as a form of illustration. Tricksters are usually associated with a host of negative elements such as stubbornness, chicanery, duplicity, cruelty, greed, gluttony, and avarice; (Musinsky) although their unifying elements are selfishness, egoism and self centeredness. As mentioned before tricksters are amoral, or, to use a Nietzsche s phrase: beyond good and evil. According to Radini, a well known trickster scholar, the trickster possesses no values, moral or social, is at the mercy of his passions and appetites, yet through his actions all values come into being. (xxiii) Almost all tricksters are megalomaniacs, a trait that is not necessarily negative, according to the aforementioned Nietschean view of the world. This innate characteristic of life is of absolute value and acceptance of the will to power in all its sublime manifestations, both beautiful and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
