Fair Trade Ethnoscapes
Fair Trade has been a buzz word in the world lately with the movement towards human rights. It s
important to note that technoscapes and ethnoscapes have played big factors in this movement and
spread of ethical goods. Global consumption of coffee in the past two years has been lead in this order
from Europe, Asia and Oceania, North America, South America, Africa, and Central America and
Mexico ( Trade Statistics Table , 2017). A big reason why fair trade has spread globally is because of
ethnoscapes, the movement of culture and people across borders. When people travel to different areas
in the coffee belt, they used to see the abuse of human labor, poor working conditions, child workers,
and that these farmers were not able to make much money ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Along with the second biggest part of the equation are the consumers of the products, not only the
countries that import the goods. In the last six months, the European Union fluctuated, but did not
falter being the leading importer of coffee with 9,994 units in july 2017, 10,439 units in September
2017, and 9,509 units in December of 2017. The United States imported 2,453 units in July 2017,
2,255 units in September 2017, and 2,328 units in December 2017. Japan imported 580 units in July
2017, 607 units in September 2017, and 460 units in December 2017. The Russian Federation
imported 476 units in July 2017, 446 units in September 2017, and 467 units in December 2017. All
units in thousand 60 kilogram bags ( Trade Statistics Table ). Within the European Union is the biggest
coffee market as well as the oldest coffee market, which are the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.
Both countries fair trade sales increased by 24% in 2011 and continue to increase as more producers
become Fair Trade certified (Ladhari,2015). The United States fair trade sales increased by 12% in
that same year. While these statistics were acquired, it was also noted about the consumer s purchasing
trends compared to their personal values. According to Pelsmaker, consumers ideal purchasing trends
are not completely reflective of their actual buying behavior (Pelsmacker, 2005). Therefore, the

Similarities Between Transcendentalism And Romanticism
Transcendentalism and Romanticism were social, artistic, and literary movements that originated in
the 18th century in New England. It arose as a reaction to protest against the general state of
intellectualism and spirituality at the time. The two movements have many differences and
comparisons that both intertwine to create a positive and negative aspect of human nature.
Transcendentalism and romanticism have both a negative and positive aspect of human nature, and
both compare and contrast within one another because they stand out during the time period, and was
an important side of the industrial revolution. Transcendentalism was expressed through central
figures such as Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau, who wrote many novels ... Show

As part of marketing in business, strategy is a leading light because it is a plan of action designed and
followed by businesses to become successful. Three companies in the same industry can offer similar
products in a completely different ways. Branding is everything and understanding what customers
want determines a company s brand position. Airline companies are great examples of numerous
companies offering the same product. Major differences in brand and quality management come when
comparing three airline companies that offer the same product such as Spirit Airlines, Jet Blue and
American Airlines. Although their product is the same, the processes to marketing their product are

As of October 2013, JetBlue serves 84 destinations in 24 states, and 12 countries in the Caribbean,
South America and Latin America. JetBlue is one of the largest airlines in the Northeast United States.
In 2007, USA Today reported that JetBlue planed to enter into a partnership with Irish flagship carrier
Aer Lingus. The alliance will facilitate easy transfers to both airlines customers, but will not allow
either airline to sell seats on the other airline, unlike traditional code share alliances, meaning
customers must make individual reservations with both carriers, the newspaper said. With a goal of
improving flight experience, JetBlue became the first airline to offer all passengers personalized in
flight entertainment. In 2000, flat screen monitors were installed in every seatback which allows
customers live access to over 20 DIRECTV channels at no additional cost. American Airlines serves
four continents, trailing Delta Air Lines and United Airlines, which both serve six. This company has
been in the industry for 69 years. It is one of many airlines that have played an important part in the
history of air transportation in the United States. Starting as a mail company called Aviation Airways ,
which carried bags of mail from Chicago to St Louis is how this company began to rise. In 1934
American airways became American Airlines, Inc. A few years later it

The Practice Of Coin Rubbing
This paper investigates the practice of coin rubbing, an ancient healing method of therapeutic massage
techniques that is deeply rooted from Chinese history. Coin rubbing has been used for centuries in
Asia and has been used by millions of people. It is a popular healing technique to relive the common
cold, headaches, chronic neck and back pain, and other aliment. However, there has been some
controversy regarding coin rubbing as either a cultural health care or child abuse. This paper will

This method is to relive and ease the pain of any illness or symptom (Craig 2002). The marks stays on
the body for about three to five days, depending how deep the red bruises on the body are and long
coin rubbing was applied for. Following several days after the treatment had been applied, the red
marks disappears with no residual affects. Due to misconception, anyone who practices or wants to
practice coin rubbing is now being advise not to practice on children at all or practice coin rubbing on
children when you know they won t be going outside to school, parks, or out and about in general.
Cultural Health Beliefs People who practice this cultural health belief in Southeastern Asia follows the
supernatural/magico/religious health care belief system that is based on the assumption that people
live in a world inhabited by supernatural forces (Samovar el at. 2013). The followers of the
supernatural/magico/religious health care belief system believe that the negatively omen and evil

Rbs and Walnut Cases a D
Background Walnut Venture Associates is a small group of angel investors with backgrounds in the
software industry. RBS is a small software company that makes billing and enterprise management
software specifically targeted at other software companies. RBS and Walnut are deciding whether
Walnut should invest in RBS, and then if they are willing, whether RBS finds the terms of the deal
satisfactory. This case memo illustrates that the venture capitalists are looking for good managers in a
particular industry, while entrepreneurs typically think funding is dependent on having a good idea. It

They even go so far as to list personal reference checks for Lane Ford as a deal condition. Further, the
investors demonstrate the importance of management by placing key man insurance on Bob O

Walnut is following an initial set of investments in and loans made to RBS by UST. Further, Mid
Atlantic is also interested in investing in the company showing the follow on effect, and at the last
minute, perhaps because of the others, a third firm, EVC, wanted in as well. Aspects of the company
itself also reduce the risk of investing. RBS sales growth is 65% over previous year. RBS already has
a product, they are profitable, and they have been around for several years. The firm is at the right spot
in its lifecycle for a capital injection. RBS is ready to grow its sales and marketing as well as its
balance sheet. Product development would likely continue with or without this capital, though this
development is one of the stated purposes of this financing. A Good Fit Another means of mitigating
risk is for Walnut to stick with what they know. They are doing this both through the software industry
and through geography. Walnut is in the Boston area, and is looking to fill capital needs in New
England. This coincides well with RBS being in Braintree. Further, MA has the second highest

Essay about al capone
Organized crime was not so organized up until the 1920s. When the 1920s arrived, the American
lifestyle changed dramatically. People started investing money in home appliances and automobiles,
women s skirts became higher and drinking became very popular. Also, organized crime came to a rise
in the 1920 s. And in the high ranks of organized crime was Al Capone. Al Capone ran many illegal
businesses including bootlegging, gambling, prostitution, and murders. There were many gangs in the
world of organized crime and Al Capone s was at the top. Al Capone was the most infamous gangster
in the 1920 s.

In New York, Arnold Rothstein was the man. He was a bootlegger, he also sold narcotics, and he
started off many big names in crime such as Charles Lucky Luciano, Frank Costello and Dutch Shultz.
Rothstein made friends with as many bootleggers and gamblers as he could. He never wanted
anything to go wrong. He was sort of paranoid but Rothstein was a very powerful man. The most
incredible act ever made by a thug just may have been the fixing of the 1919 World Series between the
Reds and the White Sox. Many of the White Sox star players wanted higher wages, owners of the club
refused. But Rothstien changed that. It was said that he paid off eight of the White Sox players 10,000
dollars each. The Red s would have lost but with a little help from Rothstein the White Sox did lose
and Rothstein got back all of his money winning bets.
Charles Lucky Luciano was another one of the most successful gangsters during the 1920s. His place
of crime was New York. Luciano started under a man named Maranzano as Capone started under
Johnny Torrio. Luciano was one of Maranzano s top men. After being under him, Charles Luciano

The Use Of N95 Masks Versus Surgical Masks
At OHSU s Bone Marrow Transplant unit (BMT) and at the outpatient center for Hematologic
Malignancies (CHM) clinic, BMT patients are not fitted for N95 masks, yet they are being asked to
wear them. Therefore, the current issue is whether or not the unfitted N95 masks are actually more
beneficial than surgical masks for the patients. This is because we are asking them to be worn while
not fitting them. I selected this topic because I noticed there were inconsistencies within the practice
of each nurse regarding the use of N95 masks versus surgical masks. When I probed deeper, I realized
that some of the nurses didn t know OHSU policy and were using best practice from another
institution, which stated to use surgical masks when transporting patients off of the unit. This made me
wonder why different institutions would have different policies and what the actual best practice is
according to evidence. The OHSU Policy #HC NSG BMT 205 POL Infection Control Policy for Adult
and Pediatric Oncology/Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant (HSCT) Units states that patients shall
wear an N 95 mask when outside the HEPA filtered environment (OHSU, 2016).
This is important to me from a leadership role development because as an informal nurse leader, it is
my responsibility to own my own practice. In order to do this appropriately, I must fully understand
the policy of my place of employment and if that policy is not aligned with current best evidence, it is
my responsibility to

How Does Chaucer Present The Skipper In Canterbury Tales
Hardy he was, prudent in undertaking is how Chaucer describes the Skipper (also known as the
Shipman) in the Canterbury Tales. He views the Skipper as excellent, smart and obtaining dispatch by
describing him as hardy in the prologue and by having him tell a tale about a monk sneakily seduces a
rich merchant s wife, without him ever finding out. The Skipper was an excellent fellow. From years
of sailing, he became tan and wore a dagger on a lanyard which hung from his neck. He ignored the
rules of conscience and rode a farmer s horse as best as he could, The summer heat had tanned his
color brown, and certainly he was an excellent fellow. The Skipper certainly seemed like an excellent

The African American Portrayal Of The Film Genre, Big...
The African American portrayal in white American entertainment, especially in films has produced
malicious and ignorant beliefs of the everyday Black person. Entertainment venues such as minstrel
shows and silent films are causes to today s stereotypical views of African Americans. The African
American community along with other American ethnic cultures had enough; therefore, between 1915
and 1950, the race film genre began its movement to increase positive cultural awareness to the world.
This paper will examine three key elements (Keywords, Unspoken Cues, and Threads) from the films,
Big Timers (1945) and Dirty Gertie from Harlem U.S.A. (1946) in explaining their significance
impact and their fitting into the paradigm of race film genre. The race film genre is a source of
important material highlighting the African American culture. The genre not only focused on culture,
but also emphasized African American talent, Black s ability to film, produce, and direct a motion
picture, and most importantly, the genre exposed the world to the real African American individual
and family. Although many of these films were only shown and marketed to colored only theaters,
films like Harlem of Prairie (1937) and The Blood of Jesus (1941) are notable films that struck a core
with both White and Black Americans. These are a few of the forgotten race films that have provided
today s African Americans with a sense of encouragement and confidence to continue to fight the

Review Of The Of The Castle Corridor
Worn out from spending ages getting Gawain settled into his bedchamber, Perceval lumbered down
the castle corridor and made it to his door. Carefully, he entered his quarters and took a quick glance
around the room; it was empty. His wife and their baby might be visiting with Carina, or Joan might
have taken Percy along on a patient visit.
Joan was an apprentice to Pawl, the Court Healer, and she had just started seeing a few patients again
here and there eight weeks after Percy s birth. Perceval would never stand in the way of his wife s
ambition to be a healer, but he worried about her returning to her duties so soon after having the baby,

had a right to be so blessed.
Relaxed, Perceval s thoughts drifted to the last time he and Joan had sex, which had been right before
Percy s birth. Other knights complained to him sex with a pregnant spouse was awkward and some did
not care for it, and went so far as to visit the bawdy house instead, but Perceval thought they were all
mad. Pregnant, Joan had been more gorgeous than ever, with her breasts full and that beautifully
rounded belly carrying the baby he d put there. There was something so alluring and sexy about it that
was hard to define.
Now, she lamented she looked like a deflated pig s bladder after birth, but Perceval declared that was
madness. There was a slight softness to her lower belly, but she had carried his child and given birth;
he saw that as beautiful and a badge of honor, though she disagreed. Though he did chuckle with her
about how her breasts had grown to twice their normal size since she was nursing. She told him to

Benign accommodation? Ukuthwala, forced marriage and the South African Children s Act
Lea Mwambene and Julia Sloth Nielsen(
Abstract
In this article, we evaluate the implications of the Children s Act 38 of 2005 for ukuthwala. Ukuthwala
is a practice whereby, preliminary to a customary marriage, a young man, by force, takes a girl to his
home. Questions arise relating to the impact of constitutional principles upon customary law and
practice. It is suggested that instead of a prohibitionist stance towards customs that seem to violate
human rights norms, a benign accommodation of aspects that promote the positive aspects of culture
be adopted. This approach leads to a conclusion that South African law should recognise those forms

The main aim of ukuthwala is to force the girl s family to enter into negotiations for the conclusion of
a customary marriage.[18] (Underlining supplied).
The procedure for ukuthwala is as follows: The intending bridegroom, with the help of the one or two
friends, will waylay the intended bride in the neighbourhood of her own home, quite often late in the
day.[19] They will then forcibly take her to the young man s home. Sometimes the girl is caught
unawares, but in many instances she is caught according to prior plan and agreement. In either case,
the girl will put up a show of resistance to suggest to onlookers that it is against her will, when in fact,
it is seldom so. As Bekker

Music And Its Influence On The Italian Genre
Throughout history, various styles of music have developed to further the evolution and complexity of
music, wether it be commissioned by nobility or, composed for the enjoyment of the normal, common
populace. English madrigals, though not the longest lasting style, is one such form of music that has
had a lasting impact on the continuing composition of music. Madrigals are defined four ways in A
History of Western Music. The fourth definition, English polyphonic work imitating the Italian genre,
is what will be covered in this paper but, to understand this definition, the other four must be explored.
Madrigals originated as a musical style in Italy in the 14th Century, but, the style came around again
in the 16th century (1588 1627), much more popular and extremely more influential than the previous
incarnation of madrigals. Madrigals are songs in a poetic setting, such as a sonnet, or, another
nonrepetative verse form. Madrigals in England developed at the same time as mass music printing,
under William Byrd, although he himself eventually stopped composing madrigals. In volume 15 of
the Second Edition of The Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, as to the circumstances of the
rise of the madrigal, it states: A favourable literary situation developed in the 1570s, when Spenser,
Sidney and other new poets undertook a comprehensive reform of native poetry along Italian lines.

The Seven Lincoln Douglas Debates
The Seven Lincoln Douglas debates were a series of political debates for a Senate seat of Illinois
between Abraham Lincoln, Illinois lawyer and the Republican candidate, and Stephen A. Douglas,
senator from Illinois since 1847, for the Democratic Party. Lincoln and Douglas held one debate in
each in seven congressional districts in Illinois. The first debate was held on August 21, 1858. Ottawa,
north central Illinois, The debates centered on the issue of slavery. Douglas accused Lincoln with
trying to abolitionize the Whig and Democratic Parties and he also charged Lincoln as a radical
abolitionist while Lincoln accused Douglas most importantly trying to nationalize slavery actively
conspiring with the south. Veracity, Accusation and Conspiracy in Lincoln s Campaign for the Senate
by Fred J. Kauffeld, Edgewood College, illustrates Lincoln accusation of Douglas being an active
conspirator or a tool for Southern leadership is doubtful while Stephen A. Douglas and the South by
Robert W. Johannsen, University of Illinois investigates the root history, desires and political
association of Douglas with southern states of United states.
According to Kauffeld, Abraham Lincoln indicted his opponent, Douglas, as he was active in a
conspiracy with the south to ensure the permanence of slavery and to extend it throughout to the Free
States. Which Kauffeld finds it surprising and disheartening and believe it was consequences of
Douglas s policies such as Popular Sovereignty. As

sights are so common that we have learned to automatically filter them and treat them as though they
are perfectly normal and have been around forever ( he lies veined into stone, a fossil man ), when in
fact, if you think about it, it s depressing and shocking that there are people who are suffering because
they don t have homes, families, or a spray to support themselves. There is an implication that in
admiring the art of other people s sadness, we overlook the circumstances that led to the production of
the art ( his head ... chides me now for my presumption ). This can especially be seen with
photographs as even with paintings such as the Mona Lisa, people wonder about the mystery of the
subject, but with photographs, even though they are a perfect realistic depiction of the world around
us, it somehow makes us desensitised to their real plight.
On the other hand, the second article is more aggressive and almost pejorative in its voice. The writer
admits that they are generalising most people who are homeless ( it should be said that not all of them
are drug users, thieves and muggers ), but states that it is safer to generalise negatively in the interest
of one s self preservation. One gets the sense that such people live in

American Conflicted About Lying
Lying If someone were asked if they lied before , the majority answer would show that most have and
if they answered no then they just showed evidence that most people lie. There are 4 articles that each

sometimes people can t handle honesty. The article It s the Truth:Americans Conflicted About Lying

feeling guilty is not as bad as both people being hurt. Also, memorizing details of a lie could easily be
avoided by keeping the lie simple. The article Rejecting All Lies:Immanuel Kant states A lie, even if it

Analysis Of The Myth Of Robber Barons
Throughout American industrialization, large industries were run by some of the richest men in
history. These men got the nickname robber barons due to their creation of large monopolies by
making questionable business and government activities, and by taking advantage of their workers to
succeed. But in The Myth of the Robber Barons by Burton W. Folsom, he argues against these claims,
and he takes a deeper look into some of America s richest and most successful men. By specifically
looking at Cornelius Vanderbilt, John D. Rockefeller, James J. Hill, the Scranton family and many
more, Folsom believed that these so called robber barons were actually entrepreneurs with a drive to
succeed, leading to an improvement in American lives.

The government also enacted the Hepburn Act, which made shipping internationally difficult on the
railroad. Despite the fact that government grants led to incompetent railroads, the Interstate Commerce
Commission and Hepburn Act were put into place, which made it so Hill could not offer rate discounts
on exports traveling on the Great Northern en route to the Orient which was helping improve the
economy with increased trade. Hill and other market entrepreneurs were not corrupt or unfair when
choosing to not have subsides, but rather the political entrepreneurs were corrupt and insolvent. Also,
Folsom argues that John D. Rockefeller was negatively impacted by government intervention. The
Sherman Act was intended to prevent monopolies and those companies in restraint of trade . Yet
Standard Oil had no monopoly and certainly was not restraining trade . Rockefeller s goal was not to
create a monopoly but in order to keep his business succeeding he needed directors in each state. By
enacting the Sherman Act, Rockefeller s company struggled, due to competition rising. These laws
essentially stopped the growth of successful businesses, such as Hill and Rockefeller, who became so
successful due to no government intervention.
Many saw robber barons as deceitful, but this is actually not the case. Within The Myth of Robber

The Misunderstanding of Humans Relationship with Nature Essay
11 And God said, let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit
after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. (The Bible, Genesis. 1 11) God
created earth with all what it has from minerals and rocks to plants and animals. He also made the
nature in a unique way. After that, God created humans and gave them dominion over the other
species and creations. 28 And god blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply,
and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of
the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. (The Bible, Genesis. 1 28) God created

The world population is growing and growing rapidly, and as the population increase, we require and
consume more of the resources we need to survive. Our resources are decreasing as our numbers
increase. We eat more and more. For example, fishermen on the Chesapeake Bay, according to Larry
Simons (Poisoned Waters), are getting less fish, oysters and crabs. The variety of what they get is also
decreasing since many sea animals became extinct in that bay like shad, yellow perch and tarpon.
Humans are overfishing the resources causing them to disappear. Another kind of animals that we
consume on a daily basis is chicken. Chicken is one of the most common types of meat that we eat. As
the demand on chicken increase, prices increase too. Small independent businesses cannot reduce their
prices since their production is limited. This led big businesses to be in the lead in mass production
with their lower prices. As the chairman of Perdue farms, one of the biggest chicken farms in the U.S.,
Jim Perdue said: I think things had to become bigger in order to keep costs lower. As chicken
production increase, their manure also increases. Small businesses could deal with their chickens
manure by absorption because it was not a lot. On the other hand, big businesses with their mass
production, they produce a lot of manure. What big businesses, like Perdue, do is they dumb it in a
river which then goes to the bay. As they dumb a lot of it, it

Business 1:
This business was established before the year 1948, the year Apartheid laws were introduced. Part of
the Apartheid laws was placing economic sanctions on South Africa which caused many businesses to
disinvest from South Africa, but this business did not withdraw its trade from South Africa, instead it
adopted the Sullivan Principles which expanded the corporate code and promoted the advancement of
human rights and social justice for companies based abroad.
Business 2:
This particular business was active during the height of Apartheid which means that they were
established before the Apartheid laws were put into place during 1948. The business later changed its
company name and then went on to disinvest from the South African economy. It was situated on 124

from the Apartheid laws it was placed under high risk and received bomb threats regularly. The

Overview Of A Riser System
LITEREATURE REVIEW
OVERVIEW OF A RISER SYSTEM
Conventionally a riser system as part of an offshore drilling or production system, is basically
conductor pipes connecting topside structures on the sea surface (an oil and gas floating, production
and storage facility or a drilling production structure) and subsea structures on the seabed. (Bai and
Bai).
Marine risers have been in existence from the early 1950s, they were used to drill from barges
offshore of California, United States. An important landmark happened in 1961, when drilling took
place from the dynamically positioned barge CUSS 1. Since those early days, risers have been used
for four main purposes, which includes drilling, completion/work over, production and export. ...

Riser Classifications
There are three main classifications of risers, which are; flexible, rigid(steel catenary risers) and
hybrid risers. With rigid and flexible risers as the two main classes, while hybrid risers are a
combination of both the flexible and rigid risers.
Flexible Risers
In the 1960s, the Institut Français du Pétrole tried to develop a flexible drilling system with a down
hole turbo drill, called Flexoforage. But Flexoforage failed, however the flexible pipes already
developed were found to be perfectly suited for offshore applications as production and export risers,
also as flow lines, which were fully exploited, from the 1970s.(fundamentals of marine risers
mechanics). Flexible pipe applications include water depths down to 8,000ft, high pressure up to
10,000 psi, and high temperatures above 150°F, as well as the ability to withstand large vessel motions
in adverse weather conditions. (palmer amd king)

polymeric thermoplastic materials, with each layer having a specific

this meaning to Daisy. Gatsby then falls more deeply in love with his idea of her, rather than the real

implicated in their kind of corruption too, and his dreams is proved hollow not only by the inadequacy
of the actual correlative that is, Daisy to the hunger of his aspiring imagination, but also by the means
he uses to build up the gaudy fabric of his vision. (Harvey) Harvey explains that Gatsby has imagined
this character he aspires to become, he has invested himself in this character and love for Daisy that

Daisy, from the day they met to his bleak death. After denied into Daisy s artificial world he left,

Gatsby will always be defined as new money; new money will never be accepted by Daisy. Through
the use of Mutschler 3 parallelism, Fitzgerald writes that there were the same people, or at least the

How Warfare Techniques Have Changed The Construction Of A...
There are many Warfare methods created for a castle. For instance, there is the Trebuchet, there are the
battlements (Merlins and Embrasures), the catapults, and much more! I ll be telling you how these
warfare techniques have changed the construction of the castles!!
The first thing I will be telling you about is the Trebuchet, A trebuchet is a catapult like engine which
uses a swinging arm to throw a projectile at the enemy. It is used to throw rocks (Boulders), dead
animals and humans, fireballs, and much more things. Trebuchets were apart of the attacking
defending team of the castles. This means that this would cost money because the people in the castle
would need to get supplies. The reason the Trebuchets influenced castle construction is that when the
people of the castle new that the enemies would have the trebuchets they would need to build higher
walls so when things start to fly at the castle they would want to have something that would block the
flying obstacles. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

hit by arrows, boulders, and more. This is why Merlin and Embrasures were influenced for castle

Heparin Case Study
Heparin is also a much needed drug and contaminants found could end up being circulated to
thousands on dialysis before it is noticed due to its immense demand. One of the biggest cases of this
occured in early 2008.
When distributed out in early 2008 the drug Heparin quickly began to surface many questions and
concerns when the Center of Disease Control was informed of possible problems arising in the drug in
January by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Care. Followed by these concerns, Alex

Soon this idea began to be tested in laboratories, but being this was related to subject of
bioengineering, different viewpoints arose very quickly. The subject of bioengineering composes of
multiple views concerning particularly the cost and accessibility to bioengineering of these drugs and
if the effort put in would equal the benefits. When looking at this it is evident that much more research
and testing would need to be put in this field before true consideration for use in the pharmaceutical
world. From there it is critical that a standard must be set for the production of all enzymes used in
this process, making sure they are produced in abundance to ensure stability. Concerning the cost it is
evident that production of this drug through chemoenzymatic means compares similarly to that of
through pig intestines. Moreover the more steadfast way of producing heparin through chinese
hamster ovary cells (CHOs) would most likely greatly exceed production through pig intestines. This
would make CHOs used more in designer Heparin doses (Vaidyanathan, 2017). Other methods show
some progress as well but they unfortunately present numerous challenges most likely impossible to

Little Flower Character Analysis
Employing household names, rather than less known actors, Jia reduces the possibility for audiences,
especially the Chinese, of jumbling up the interviewing with acting. In other words, the intention of
docuficiton is not to gloss over the conflicts between the natural and artificial, but to highlight the
difference and to show the self conscious about mimicry in representation (Deppman 205). The
quality of self reflexivity is most explicit in the case of Gu Minhua, played by veteran actor Joan
Chen, who was given the nickname, Little Flower, because she resembles the heroine in the one time
popular movie, Little Flower, which in reality was starred by Joan herself. Later comes the scene
where Gu Minhua is watching Little Flower. The juxtaposition between the character/actress and her
representative work further parodies the boundary between the fact and fiction, and the authority of
one single voice in the process of conceptualising the time space. In the context of China, it confronts
the hegemony of revolutionary realism since Mao era till today, referring to a powerful delusion to
justify the Chinese past, and to generate political passions for the present and future (Donald 273).
The revolutionary realism is similar to the Aristotelian drama in Brecht s sense, which provides a
hypnotic experience by alluring spectators to empathise with the heroic characters. The instructive
theatre, by contrast, disentangles the audiences from the dramatic plot through

Uncertainty, Fear And Communication In The Bath By Raymond...
In The Bath by Raymond Carver we have the theme of conflict, uncertainty, helplessness, fear and
communication. Taken from his What We Talk About When We Talk About Love collection the story
is narrated in the third person by an unnamed narrator and is an early version of another Carver short
story (A Small, Good Thing). One of the most striking things about the beginning of the story is that it
becomes clear to the reader that Carver may be exploring the theme of communication (or the lack of
it). Ann Weiss is in a baker s shop ordering a cake for her son Scotty s birthday. Though she tells the
baker, who remains unnamed throughout the story, what she is looking for the baker says very little,
assuring Ann that she has told him everything he needs to know. The baker s reassurance is important
because in some ways it is the only time in the story in which Ann (or her husband) are assured that
everything is okay. At no other stage in the story is there a sense, particularly for Ann that things are or
will be okay (when it comes to Scotty s condition). If anything Ann remains uncertain throughout the
story as to what will happen Scotty. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Leadership In Lord Of The Flies
William Golding s Lord of the Flies revolves around power and leadership roles that emerge in society
and nature. Two of the main characters, Jack and Ralph, fight for leadership over the other boys
because of their conflicting natures: Ralph rules by an idea of peace instilled in him by the influence
of society s rules in his life, whereas Jack resorts to a primitive form of evil and torture which is
kindled by his isolation on an island of no definitive rules. In chapter one, the boys decide to choose a
leader. Ralph grabs their loyalty and attention of the others with his authoritative manner and
optimistic plans for the future. Throughout the story, the boys seem to drift away from his command.

Jack unites the boys in an activity that rewards them almost instantaneously, compared to building

they needed it badly, as in just before a storm or other extreme weather. As long as the activity is
simple and fast, the boys are eager to help. Jack s seemingly savage actions, such as questioning
Samneric so harshly, were necessary in that setting. Ralph never disciplined the boys for not doing
what he wanted, whereas Jack did. Ralph s passive leadership style and rules were easily evaded by
boys who had no interest in helping to work. He failed to incorporate into his modernized views of

Through The Tunnel Symbolism
In Through the Tunnel, the author, Doris Lessing, writes about a vacation of a widow and her son
named Jerry. Lessing turns Jerry s and his mother s relaxing vacation into a serious one with the tools
of symbolism to unveil the hidden message of the rocky bay and the tunnel, vivid imagery of the
tunnel, as well as similes and personification regarding Jerry s attitude towards the adventure;
moreover, the author creates an overall tone of determination and wonder to help construct the well
known theme of never giving up.
It is safe to assume the rocky bay and the tunnel both symbolize very important aspects in this short
story. The rocky bay could be said to symbolize a turning point in Jerry s life. In the first paragraph,

After Jerry had watched the older boys go through the tunnel and leave the bay, he was left alone

felt like he boys were leaving to get away from him, (3), which only further supports the notion that he
feels alone and has no clue what to do. However, after he decides to get goggles, he ran right back and
dived into the bay once more. While he was negative towards the whole ordeal before, the following
simile reveals a different tone: Now, he could see. It was as if he had eyes of a different kind, fish eyes
that showed everything clear and delicate and wavering in the bright water, (3). The fact that he is now
describing things as clear and delicate shows a more positive connotation which can suggest that Jerry
was not as frustrated after that. He felt as if he got some of his composure and control back and is

Describe The Role Of Atp In Living Organisms
Adenosine triphosphate (also known as ATP) energy, is the one molecule that connects many functions
of life. ATP connects the feeding styles (autotrophs and heterotrophs, photosynthesis, respiration, the
natural cycles of carbon, nitrogen, and energy in food chains, as well as the law of nature, or
conservation of energy and mass. ATP is defined as a compound used by cells to store and release
energy and acquires and transfers chemical energy in reactions that power these functions. ATP is
made up of adenine, a 5 carbon sugar (ribose), and three phosphate groups. ATP gets its energy when a
cell breaks the chemical bonds that exist between the second and third phosphate groups.
ATP directly influences the processes of feeding for both autotrophs and heterotrophs. Autotroph is
defined as an organism that is able to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The carbon cycle occurs when organism release carbon through respiration, or when decomposers, a
type of heterotroph, release carbon from dead organisms as they break them down. This released
carbon then circles through the environment and the atmosphere to be used in other earthly processes.
The nitrogen cycle is aided and used by both autotrophs and heterotrophs. Autotrophs use the nitrogen
cycle to make nucleic acids from nitrates and nitrites. Heterotrophs use the nitrogen cycle when
consumers eat producers (autotrophs) and reuse their nitrogen. Heterotrophs also aid the nitrogen
cycle because decomposers release nitrogen from dead organisms. The nitrogen cycle passes nitrogen
through the soil, organisms, and air, through the use of feeding styles as well as other processes.
Energy in food chains is another type of natural cycle. Organisms use energy on respiration which is a
process involving food. Consumers also take part in the energy in food chain cycle when they take
energy from other organisms they eat. These cycles are a large part of the biological circle of

Persuasive Essay On A Flat Tax System
Wouldn t it be a perfect world if everyone paid their fair share of taxes? Shouldn t everyone have skin
in the game? For example, if the tax rate was 10%, then the person earning $10,000 per year would
pay $1,000 in taxes, and the person earning $100,000 per year would pay $10,000 in taxes. Does this
sound too good to be true? Many complain that our current tax system is broken and there has to be a
better tax system. During this last presidential campaign, the idea of a flat tax system was once again
discussed as an option by one of the candidates. Over the years, many bills have been introduced to
congress to change our tax system. Right now, Congress is debating on a new tax system. Our
President is pushing for change as he realizes the current system is not going to get the deficit down.
We may not see significant change this term, but it will be interesting to see how it all turns out. This
paper will discuss what is wrong with our current system, the possible solution of adopting a flat tax
system, the counter evidence of why a flat tax system is probably not the solution to our tax problem
and why this evidence is right. Our current system is very complex, not efficient, biased, and basically
not effective. Did you know the current tax code has over 9 million words? (books.google.com) (241

This style of adjudication would create recurrent heated discussions being settled by personal

state of nature would generate a sadistic and apprehensive atmosphere (Reese, 2001, ¶11 12). The
State of Nature is a condition of ideal and inclusive autonomy to manage life in the best method one
deems necessary, according to Locke. To add clarity, Locke s proposal was not to include the freedom
to do whatever one desires despite the consequences. Although the State of Nature presents a status
that municipal influence and government does not discipline individuals for illegal indiscretions,
doctrines remain in subsistence. Furthermore, the State of Nature assumes equivalency to others and is
equally skilled to make determinations ensured by, what Locke claims, the foundation of decency; the
Law of Nature. Locke s viewpoint is that the Law of Nature was provided to mankind by God with the
instructions not to cause injury to one another in regard to physical condition, independence,
existence, and property. In Locke s words, Moral good and evil is only the conformity or disagreement
of our voluntary actions to some law, whereby good or evil is drawn on us, from the will and power of
the law maker (Laslett, 1967, p. 18). Locke refutes Hobbes theory by making claim that because God

reasons seem to be equal to the risk of losing credibility. Scientific fraud seems to be appearing in all
fields ranging from paleontology to nanotechnology. Along with this, certain surveys show that 40
percent of researchers were aware of the misconduct (Gupta 1). There have been numerous attempts to
completely eradicate medical research misconduct but only a few techniques have been proven to be
effective. The most impressive one seems to be the changing of policy. A change of policy on research
misconduct or the introduction of an investigation committee would make it harder for researchers to
fabricate data to avoid setbacks along with making it extremely clear that consequences will be harsh.
There have been an uncountable amount of precautions recorded that were basically an attempt to end
research misconduct, and many of them proved to be effective. This has been a problem that affects a
majority of the globe including Iraq where Shirin Dijalalinia experimented quite a bit with misconduct
policies before she discovered a effective policy. In her article, A Proposed Strategy for Research

Usui Reiki Research Paper
THE CONCEPT OF REIKI
Reiki is a Japanese form of stress reduction and relaxation that promotes healing through the laying on
of hands. Despite being often referred to as spiritual healing, reiki is a secular practice and is unrelated
to any religion or faith system. Rather, it centres on the belief that all beings are created and sustained
by a universal life force energy, which, if disrupted, weakened or blocked, can result in emotional
and/or physical dis ease. Reiki practitioners act as a channel for this energy, which flows through them
and into the recipient via a series of hand positions relating to the seven main chakras, which in turn
are linked to the body s endocrine system, thereby restoring the energetic balance and encouraging the
body to self heal. As the flow of reiki energy is absorbed by the recipient through both the subtle and
physical bodies, reiki ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before his death in 1926, Dr Usui trained 17 people in the Usui Reiki System. One of these was Dr
Chujiro Hayashi, who subsequently initiated Mrs Hawayo Takata, the woman credited with
introducing Reiki in the West after the Second World War and to whom the majority of Western
practitioners can directly trace their reiki lineage. The 22 initiates trained by Mrs Takata before her
death in 1980 went on to train countless others, and the practice has expanded exponentially ever
since, with tens of thousands of practitioners now active all over the world.
In recent years, reiki has gained a more widestream acceptance and is increasingly employed in
Western medicine as a complementary therapy for those undergoing treatment for cancer, anxiety,

To find out that the in India believe the same thing, corporates in India are investing into personal
development, the following hypothesis is taken
H2: Personal development consistently learning is gaining importance.
Since most of the current personality development institutes are thriving and giving all those stuff that
formal education system lacks, and a large number of people are believing that formal education in
India is insufficient we take the following hypothesis:
H3:Formal education alone is insufficient for success in life.
Conventionally the various areas of personality development are
Vedic mathematics, public speaking, teamwork, leadership, English speaking, attitudinal seminars,
conversation techniques, speed reading, acting, adventure sports, mind power [hypnotism, meditations
etc], yoga.
So that to know which areas would they give maximum weightage we make the following hypothesis.
H4: Each area of the personality development program is equally weighted.
METHODOLOGY: The data used in this report is collected from doing a survey. A questionnaire is
used for conducting research. Questionnaires are used primarily as there has been very less study done
on this subject in India specially related to our hypothesis. Since the research are having mostly yes no
type questions, we can t use quantitative techniques like regression analysis, etc.

Analysis Of A Perfect Day For Bananafish
Michael Connelly, a published author once said that, You can t patch a wounded soul with a band aid .
By saying that, Connelly is explaining that with mental illnesses you can t just fix the symptoms, you
have to fix the problem it will only get worse. A Perfect Day for Bananafish by J.D. Salinger tells
about a man named Seymour who suffers from PTSD who comes home from war and goes on a
honeymoon with his wife to Florida, where he ultimately kills himself, reasons for this include, that he
wants to relieve himself of the pain, he needs help that he is not getting, and he is isolated from his
wife and her world. One of the reasons Seymour kills himself is because he wants to end his suffering.
In the short story, when discussing bananafish, Seymour states, they swim into a hole where there s a
lot of bananas. They re very ordinary looking fish when they swim in. But once they get in, they
behave like pigs. Why, I ve known some bananafish to swim into a banana hole and eat as many as
seventy eight bananas. ... Naturally, after that they re so fat they can t get out of the whole again ...
[then] they die (Salinger 14). The bananafish keep eating and eating until they are so fat they die.
Seymour is like this in the way that he keeps digging himself deeper and deeper into the hole of
reclusiveness and depression until he just exploded and died. Another reason for Seymour s suicide is
that he not getting the help that he needs to function in society. When this story takes

While majoring in East Asian Studies at the University of...
While majoring in East Asian Studies at the University of Kansas I have been granted many
opportunities to study the situation of South Koreas political, social, and cultural practices.
Consequently, I have researched and written numerous papers, including my undergraduate thesis, on
the influence of English language acquisition among South Korean college and elementary students.
One of the most profound conclusions regarding English education in South Korea that I have come
across is its direct correlation with the future and success of young/adolescent English learners.
Whether young Korean students are preparing for college entrance exams, making arrangements to
study abroad, or entering the workforce, English is a driving force behind ... Show more content on

My philosophy on teaching is simple. Quality over quantity. Rather than inundating students with
copious amounts of meaningless busy work, I would rather focus on ensuring that each and every
student comprehends and fully understands whatever topic I may be presenting that day. I have had
my fair share of experience with apathetic teachers at the high school and university level so I am well
aware of the toxic and stale environment that they propagate within their classrooms. Education is one
of the most precious gifts we are given in our lives and that is the atmosphere I wish to promote within
my own classroom. While some students may agree with this concept, I am aware that there are just as
many that will not. However, through putting in time and hard work I believe that I will be able to
connect and help all of my students. While South Korea is a very different world when compared to
the united states, I am confident that my education and experiences of to this point have sufficiently
prepared me for live overseas. I previously spent a year at Soongsil University on a study abroad
program and it was one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had in my life. Although my trip
ended more than 2 years ago, I have continued to study the Korean language and culture. Now that I
speak Korean with an almost native fluency, I cannot foresee any problems that may arise for me

What Is Pop Soda And Pop Rock Essay

Rocks and Soda
Did you know that some rumors started that said if you ate pop rocks with soda your stomach will
explode? That rumor is not true of course. Your stomach will not explode but may result in a lot of
gas. There is less carbon dioxide in a pouch of pop rocks than in half a can of soda. That means that if
you drink soda with pop rocks there will not be an explosion in your stomach. The reason for that is
because if there is not a lot of carbon dioxide than nothing is going to explode.
The soda and pop rocks experiment is mostly just mixing pop rocks and soda into a bottle. First,
sprite, Fanta and Pepsi are placed about a yard away from each other. Next, one rubber nozzle is added
to the soda ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Surface tension is the result of an inward pulling among the molecules of a liquid that brings the
molecules on a surface closer together. Shaking a can bring a lot of bubbles into the liquid. Dissolved
gas can vaporize by joining other bubbles that already exist rather than forming new ones. Instead of
doing the difficult step of the bubble formation, the bubbles can quickly escape from a shaken can.

The Investigator Exasperated By F. Scott Fitzgerald
Damn... the investigator exasperated. Then there was a moment of uneasy silence. How did you get in
this situation? Tell me again. requested the investigator.
Alright whispered a fifteen year old boy named Nick. He found himself in an interrogation room at a
police station. He sat at one end of a table, and his older brother Tony sat on the other end. Tony was a
big time investigator in Madison, Wisconsin. Tony came as soon as he heard the news. The one sided
mirror made Nick more uncomfortable. He had told his story to countless people now, and it was
evident no one believed him. As down as he was feeling, he knew he had to tell it again especially to
his brother Tony.
After a prolonged silence, Tony finally said Tell me as you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Nick and his baby sister, Bella, slept downstairs, and their parents slept upstairs. He felt a surge of
worry for his baby sister so he hurried to her room. The door was shut, he stared at the knob for a split
second then he swung the door open. In the doorway of her room, he stood looking at her cradle.
Stepping towards her, he peered into the cradle, it looked like she was under a blanket. He reached for
the blanket. It felt like slow motion for Nick, maybe his baby sister was not there? As he grabbed hold
of the blanket, he uncovered to see his baby sister sleeping soundly unharmed. He took a deep breath
of relief. He thought it was his mind playing tricks on him, but then he heard a bang.
As he was narrating, he elaborated I thought I must have been hearing things, but then I heard a loud
bang. It was a gunshot, I panicked and stumbled up the stairs. Another door was shut, this one to our
parents room. I approached it hesitantly. Again I felt stuck in time peering down at the door handle,
and terrified of what was on the other side. Nick formed his hand around the door handle, then he
pulled down. The door opened slowly. Then everything went wrong. A man wearing all black with
black gloves had a gun in his hand pointed at Nick s mom. His mother was sobbing, and holding her
dead husband in her arms.
The gun was pointed at Nick s mom, and then the intruder shot her. Time froze. The murder with the

The Massacre At Chios, And Percy Bysshe Shelley s Alastor...
Although various thinkers and artists from the Romantic era utilized unique approaches within the
spectrum of their work, historians have grouped many viewpoints as being part of a category called
the Romantics. The artistic, literary, musical and intellectual movement known as the Romantic era
began in 18th century Europe and ended in the mid 19th century (Day, 1996). Romantic art uniquely
places a large emphasis on emotional content, the individual, and in celebrating the past and the ways
in which one interacts with the nature that surrounds them (Day, 1996). The emotions which were
most widely used included terror, horror, and awe; as it was believed that these processes contributed
to the overall aesthetic appeal (Day, 1996). This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The French were also more aligned to the Greeks in terms of religion, since both held Christian
values, while the Turks were largely Muslim, and at the time seen as the outsiders within the conflict
(Fraser, 2004). The painting depicts some of the Greek survivors on the island of Chios, as they are in
anguish since they re surrounded by the Ottomans whom are holding weapons, and whom are
presumably capturing these individuals for slavery. Some of the figures are wounded, some appear to
be dying, but the survivors will presumably be taken away. There are various individual moments of
suffering being illustrated, each of which holds a unique conception of the current state, all of whom
are emotionally dealing with the circumstances as best as they can. This piece has no hero, and it does
not display any relative form of optimism. Instead it illustrates the fact that suffering is prevalent, and
each individual copes with such suffering in a unique manner. The point of unification lies in the mere
fact that the Greeks are overpowered by the Turks. This is a painting about human suffering, and
individualism, and it emphasizes the importance of color, nature in the background, and classical
figures being painted in an effort to create an

  • 2. Fair Trade Ethnoscapes Fair Trade has been a buzz word in the world lately with the movement towards human rights. It s important to note that technoscapes and ethnoscapes have played big factors in this movement and spread of ethical goods. Global consumption of coffee in the past two years has been lead in this order from Europe, Asia and Oceania, North America, South America, Africa, and Central America and Mexico ( Trade Statistics Table , 2017). A big reason why fair trade has spread globally is because of ethnoscapes, the movement of culture and people across borders. Both countries fair trade sales increased by 24% in 2011 and continue to increase as more producers become Fair Trade certified (Ladhari,2015). The United States fair trade sales increased by 12% in that same year. • 9. The Use Of N95 Masks Versus Surgical Masks At OHSU s Bone Marrow Transplant unit (BMT) and at the outpatient center for Hematologic Malignancies (CHM) clinic, BMT patients are not fitted for N95 masks, yet they are being asked to wear them. Therefore, the current issue is whether or not the unfitted N95 masks are actually more beneficial than surgical masks for the patients. This is because we are asking them to be worn while not fitting them. I selected this topic because I noticed there were inconsistencies within the practice of each nurse regarding the use of N95 masks versus surgical masks. When I probed deeper, I realized that some of the nurses didn t know OHSU policy and were using best practice from another institution, which stated to use surgical masks when transporting patients off of the unit. This made me wonder why different institutions would have different policies and what the actual best practice is according to evidence. The OHSU Policy #HC NSG BMT 205 POL Infection Control Policy for Adult and Pediatric Oncology/Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant (HSCT) Units states that patients shall wear an N 95 mask when outside the HEPA filtered environment (OHSU, 2016). This is important to me from a leadership role development because as an informal nurse leader, it is my responsibility to own my own practice. In order to do this appropriately, I must fully understand the policy of my place of employment and if that policy is not aligned with current best evidence, it is my responsibility to ... He ignored the rules of conscience and rode a farmer s horse as best as he could, The summer heat had tanned his color brown, and certainly he was an excellent fellow. The African American portrayal in white American entertainment, especially in films has produced malicious and ignorant beliefs of the everyday Black person. Entertainment venues such as minstrel shows and silent films are causes to today s stereotypical views of African Americans. The African American community along with other American ethnic cultures had enough; therefore, between 1915 and 1950, the race film genre began its movement to increase positive cultural awareness to the world. This paper will examine three key elements (Keywords, Unspoken Cues, and Threads) from the films, Big Timers (1945) and Dirty Gertie from Harlem U.S.A. (1946) in explaining their significance impact and their fitting into the paradigm of race film genre. The race film genre is a source of important material highlighting the African American culture. The genre not only focused on culture, but also emphasized African American talent, Black s ability to film, produce, and direct a motion picture, and most importantly, the genre exposed the world to the real African American individual and family. Although many of these films were only shown and marketed to colored only theaters, films like Harlem of Prairie (1937) and The Blood of Jesus (1941) are notable films that struck a core with both White and Black Americans. These are a few of the forgotten race films that have provided today s African Americans with a sense of encouragement and confidence to continue to fight the struggle of ... Other knights complained to him sex with a pregnant spouse was awkward and some did not care for it, and went so far as to visit the bawdy house instead, but Perceval thought they were all mad. Pregnant, Joan had been more gorgeous than ever, with her breasts full and that beautifully rounded belly carrying the baby he d put there. There was something so alluring and sexy about it that was hard to define. Now, she lamented she looked like a deflated pig s bladder after birth, but Perceval declared that was madness. Those streets were highly influenced by gang activity, drugs and poverty. Due to the conditions that stood before the young boys, they were forced to look to their grimy environment for guidance. George, Rameck and Sam met at University High School, a high school for the gifted children in Newark. While they all were smart, none of them worked to their full potential. They tried to keep one foot in their old neighborhoods and one foot inside the schools. After two of them went to juvenile jail and the other was tired of dealing with the neighborhood kids, the three became friends. As friends they went to a college seminar that was there to encourage black teen to join the medical field. George had always had a dream of becoming a Dentist and he was able to talk his two best friends Rameck and Sam into going to the college with him. Ukuthwala, forced marriage and the South African Children s Act Lea Mwambene and Julia Sloth Nielsen( Abstract In this article, we evaluate the implications of the Children s Act 38 of 2005 for ukuthwala. Ukuthwala is a practice whereby, preliminary to a customary marriage, a young man, by force, takes a girl to his home. Questions arise relating to the impact of constitutional principles upon customary law and practice. It is suggested that instead of a prohibitionist stance towards customs that seem to violate human rights norms, a benign accommodation of aspects that promote the positive aspects of culture be adopted. • 16. Music And Its Influence On The Italian Genre Throughout history, various styles of music have developed to further the evolution and complexity of music, wether it be commissioned by nobility or, composed for the enjoyment of the normal, common populace. English madrigals, though not the longest lasting style, is one such form of music that has had a lasting impact on the continuing composition of music. Madrigals are defined four ways in A History of Western Music. The fourth definition, English polyphonic work imitating the Italian genre, is what will be covered in this paper but, to understand this definition, the other four must be explored. Madrigals originated as a musical style in Italy in the 14th Century, but, the style came around again in the 16th century (1588 1627), much more popular and extremely more influential than the previous incarnation of madrigals. Madrigals are songs in a poetic setting, such as a sonnet, or, another nonrepetative verse form. Madrigals in England developed at the same time as mass music printing, under William Byrd, although he himself eventually stopped composing madrigals. In volume 15 of the Second Edition of The Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, as to the circumstances of the rise of the madrigal, it states: A favourable literary situation developed in the 1570s, when Spenser, Sidney and other new poets undertook a comprehensive reform of native poetry along Italian lines. The Seven Lincoln Douglas Debates The Seven Lincoln Douglas debates were a series of political debates for a Senate seat of Illinois between Abraham Lincoln, Illinois lawyer and the Republican candidate, and Stephen A. The first debate was held on August 21, 1858. Ottawa, north central Illinois, The debates centered on the issue of slavery. Douglas accused Lincoln with trying to abolitionize the Whig and Democratic Parties and he also charged Lincoln as a radical abolitionist while Lincoln accused Douglas most importantly trying to nationalize slavery actively conspiring with the south. Veracity, Accusation and Conspiracy in Lincoln s Campaign for the Senate by Fred J. Hill and other market entrepreneurs were not corrupt or unfair when choosing to not have subsides, but rather the political entrepreneurs were corrupt and insolvent. Also, Folsom argues that John D. Yet Standard Oil had no monopoly and certainly was not restraining trade . Rockefeller s goal was not to create a monopoly but in order to keep his business succeeding he needed directors in each state. The first thing I will be telling you about is the Trebuchet, A trebuchet is a catapult like engine which uses a swinging arm to throw a projectile at the enemy. It is used to throw rocks (Boulders), dead animals and humans, fireballs, and much more things. Trebuchets were apart of the attacking defending team of the castles. This means that this would cost money because the people in the castle would need to get supplies. Little Flower Character Analysis Employing household names, rather than less known actors, Jia reduces the possibility for audiences, especially the Chinese, of jumbling up the interviewing with acting. In other words, the intention of docuficiton is not to gloss over the conflicts between the natural and artificial, but to highlight the difference and to show the self conscious about mimicry in representation (Deppman 205). The quality of self reflexivity is most explicit in the case of Gu Minhua, played by veteran actor Joan Chen, who was given the nickname, Little Flower, because she resembles the heroine in the one time popular movie, Little Flower, which in reality was starred by Joan herself. Later comes the scene where Gu Minhua is watching Little Flower. The juxtaposition between the character/actress and her representative work further parodies the boundary between the fact and fiction, and the authority of one single voice in the process of conceptualising the time space. In the context of China, it confronts the hegemony of revolutionary realism since Mao era till today, referring to a powerful delusion to justify the Chinese past, and to generate political passions for the present and future (Donald 273). Taken from his What We Talk About When We Talk About Love collection the story is narrated in the third person by an unnamed narrator and is an early version of another Carver short story (A Small, Good Thing). One of the most striking things about the beginning of the story is that it becomes clear to the reader that Carver may be exploring the theme of communication (or the lack of it). Though she tells the baker, who remains unnamed throughout the story, what she is looking for the baker says very little, assuring Ann that she has told him everything he needs to know. In the first paragraph, Jerry looked down at a wild and rocky bay, and then over the crowded beach he knew ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After Jerry had watched the older boys go through the tunnel and leave the bay, he was left alone again. He then dived back in among the fanged and angry boulders, (3). This personification emphasizes a negative connotation that shows how frustrated Jerry is at this point in his adventure. He felt like he boys were leaving to get away from him, (3), which only further supports the notion that he feels alone and has no clue what to do. However, after he decides to get goggles, he ran right back and dived into the bay once more. While he was negative towards the whole ordeal before, the following simile reveals a different tone: Now, he could see. It was as if he had eyes of a different kind, fish eyes that showed everything clear and delicate and wavering in the bright water, (3). The fact that he is now describing things as clear and delicate shows a more positive connotation which can suggest that Jerry was not as frustrated after that. • 33. Describe The Role Of Atp In Living Organisms Adenosine triphosphate (also known as ATP) energy, is the one molecule that connects many functions of life. ATP connects the feeding styles (autotrophs and heterotrophs, photosynthesis, respiration, the natural cycles of carbon, nitrogen, and energy in food chains, as well as the law of nature, or conservation of energy and mass. ATP is defined as a compound used by cells to store and release energy and acquires and transfers chemical energy in reactions that power these functions. ATP is made up of adenine, a 5 carbon sugar (ribose), and three phosphate groups. ATP gets its energy when a cell breaks the chemical bonds that exist between the second and third phosphate groups. ATP directly influences the processes of feeding for both autotrophs and heterotrophs. Autotroph is defined as an organism that is able to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The carbon cycle occurs when organism release carbon through respiration, or when decomposers, a type of heterotroph, release carbon from dead organisms as they break them down. This released carbon then circles through the environment and the atmosphere to be used in other earthly processes. The nitrogen cycle is aided and used by both autotrophs and heterotrophs. Autotrophs use the nitrogen cycle to make nucleic acids from nitrates and nitrites. Heterotrophs use the nitrogen cycle when consumers eat producers (autotrophs) and reuse their nitrogen. Heterotrophs also aid the nitrogen cycle because decomposers release nitrogen from dead organisms. The nitrogen cycle passes nitrogen through the soil, organisms, and air, through the use of feeding styles as well as other processes. Energy in food chains is another type of natural cycle. Organisms use energy on respiration which is a process involving food. Consumers also take part in the energy in food chain cycle when they take energy from other organisms they eat. • 34. Persuasive Essay On A Flat Tax System Wouldn t it be a perfect world if everyone paid their fair share of taxes? Shouldn t everyone have skin in the game? For example, if the tax rate was 10%, then the person earning $10,000 per year would pay $1,000 in taxes, and the person earning $100,000 per year would pay $10,000 in taxes. Does this sound too good to be true? Many complain that our current tax system is broken and there has to be a better tax system. During this last presidential campaign, the idea of a flat tax system was once again discussed as an option by one of the candidates. Over the years, many bills have been introduced to congress to change our tax system. Right now, Congress is debating on a new tax system. Our President is pushing for change as he realizes the current system is not going to get the deficit down. We may not see significant change this term, but it will be interesting to see how it all turns out. This paper will discuss what is wrong with our current system, the possible solution of adopting a flat tax system, the counter evidence of why a flat tax system is probably not the solution to our tax problem and why this evidence is right. Our current system is very complex, not efficient, biased, and basically not effective. Did you know the current tax code has over 9 million words? (books.google.com) (241 words) It s no wonder people want change. I think most would agree our current tax system needs revised. We hear on the news how big corporations pay little in ... The view that people s ethical and political responsibilities are reliant upon a contract between them to structure a society is also precisely linked with current ethical and political theory. John Locke (b. 1632, d. 1704), a prominent truth seeker among other professions of the 17th and early 18th centuries, is primarily recognized for the creation of his influential social contract theory. The State of Nature is a condition of ideal and inclusive autonomy to manage life in the best method one deems necessary, according to Locke. To add clarity, Locke s proposal was not to include the freedom to do whatever one desires despite the consequences. Although the State of Nature presents a status that municipal influence and government does not discipline individuals for illegal indiscretions, doctrines remain in subsistence. Furthermore, the State of Nature assumes equivalency to others and is equally skilled to make determinations ensured by, what Locke claims, the foundation of decency; the Law of Nature. Locke s viewpoint is that the Law of Nature was provided to mankind by God with the instructions not to cause injury to one another in regard to physical condition, independence, existence, and property. In Locke s words, Moral good and evil is only the conformity or disagreement of our voluntary actions to some law, whereby good or evil is drawn on us, from the will and power of the law maker (Laslett, 1967, p. 18). Despite being often referred to as spiritual healing, reiki is a secular practice and is unrelated to any religion or faith system. The reason for that is because if there is not a lot of carbon dioxide than nothing is going to explode. The soda and pop rocks experiment is mostly just mixing pop rocks and soda into a bottle.
