Two Generations Research Paper
This generation, millennials, has a vastly different way of making it in the world than that of
people from two generations ago. I interviewed my maternal grandmother for this assignment.
We were raised relatively close to the same place, but in majorly different times. Blue Ridge,
Georgia is only 7.5 miles from Cherry Log, Georgia. Quite a few of our answers matched, and I
believe that s because my mother raised me and my two sisters the same way my grandmother
raised her which was influenced by her upbringing. In addition to that, I spent a copious amount
of my time as a child with my grandparents. While I was in their house, I followed their rules,
which were stricter than my own parents rules, and it has made me see the world we are living...

Her first difference was that her generation was self sufficient, and that you only had what you
needed. She said my generation seems to waste more than they ever had growing up. Another point
she made was that my generation is consumed with cellphones, television, and computers. I agree
with her on that statement. My generation relies too heavily on electronics. We wouldn t make in
the world they grew up in. I feel like my generation doesn t grow or hunt their own food. My
grandmother s generation had to grow their own

Ronald Reagan Influence
Ronald Reagan, the 40th president of the United States, is arguably said by many Americans to
be the best president in U.S. history. Ronald Reagan is the biggest influence on the U.S. since
1900 because of Reaganomics, he ended the Cold War, and he provided arms and other support
to anti communist groups . Not only did Reagan win forty nine out of the fifty states in his bid for
reelection in 1984, but, he also earned five hundred and twenty five electoral votes. This counted
as the most Electoral Votes of any candidate in the history of the United States. The Election of
1984 proved to be a testament of how powerful this man really was. Ronald Reaganwas born in

escalation of the Cold War with the Soviet Union and a massive buildup of U.S. weapons and

was a plan to develop weapons based in space to protect America from attacks by Soviet nuclear
missiles (Biography.com Editors). President Reagan backed away from the idea of dГ©tente

with Mikhail Gorbachev, a chairman of the Soviet Union who later became the leader of the
Soviet Union in 1985 (Biography.com Editors). The Americans and Soviets signed an agreement
to get rid of intermediate range nuclear missiles in 1987 (History.com Staff). Reagan spoke at
Germany s Berlin Wall that same year and challenged Gorbachev to tear it down. A little more

Essay On Saccharin
Saccharin is an artificial sweetener which is commonly used to sweeten drinks as many believe
that it has lower calorific values compared to sugar. The scientific name of saccharin is 2
benzothiazol 1,1,3 trione. Saccharin is used as an artificial sweetener as even though only a small
amount of it is used, it is as sweet as sugar when used in large amount. This concept which leads
many people to have the belief that it is healthier to use artificial sweetenerssuch as saccharin
compared to sugar.
Saccharin was first discovered by Constantin Fahlberg, a chemist working on coal tar derivatives
in the year 1897. One night, after a day of laboratory work, Fahlberg sat down to dinner. He
picked up a roll with his hand and bit into a remarkably sweet crust. Fahlberg realised that he had
accidentally spilled an experimental compound over his hands earlier that day. He ran back to
laboratory, where he tasted everything on his worktable all the vials, beakers, and dishes he used
for his experiments. Finally he found the source: an overboiled beaker in ... Show more content on

However, it was not until the year 1969 where many controversy was stirred against saccharin.
There are many investigations that were carried out proved that saccharin was harmful to human
health. Numerous investigations on whether saccharin induces cancer or whether saccharin will
cause glucose intolerance were conducted by many scientists and researchers. This eventually lead
to it being labelled as a harmful item and are banned in certain places although the bans were not
very effective. However, in 2010, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) removed saccharin
from their list of hazardous constituents and stated that saccharin will not be considered as a
potential hazard to human health. Even though the EPA states that it is safe to consume saccharin,

Client Centered Therapy
Jessica Jeffers
It is inevitable that in psychotherapy there are numerous theories. Theories arise out of scholarly
investigations of ideas on human behavior. Human behavior is an extraordinarily interesting subject
and therefore produces a plethora of ideas from a variety of theorists. These theorists are influenced
by their education, culture, and time period. One of the most influential, empathetically
understanding, theorists is Carl Rogers. His contributions to human behavior have changed many
of the theories that preceded him, and contributed his theory to many theories that followed him.
I want to explore Client/Person Centered Therapy. This is a type of therapy that was pioneered by
Carl Rogers. This therapy is different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rogers may not have worked with his clients to produce and obtain goals, but he did have a
ultimate goal in his therapeutic work. According to Rogers, They [clients] are then able to accept
themselves as they are and to commit themselves to becoming more like they can and want to be
(as cited in Truscott, 2010, p. 72). The client is in turn aided by the therapist in becoming as
authentic as possible. Thus this authenticity would provide the client with the ability to be true to
themselves and their feelings. I find this to be useful in allowing the client to process their internal
feelings, externally.
According to Truscott (2010), Therapists must be willing and able to listen without prejudice,
judgment, or agenda if the client is to have any chance of feeling truly understood and accepted.
Positive feelings, negative feelings, and silence must be acceptable to the therapist (p. 73). This is
interesting because it requires that the therapists become void of any judgments. To me this seems
like a difficult task to accomplish because of the nature of judgments. Understandably so, the
therapist would automatically make judgments of the client, as a natural inclination even with the
best intentions against judgments.
So, what kind of a therapist must one be to establish a patient centered therapy?

The effectiveness of banana stem juice as a natural coagulant for treatment of turbid water was
investigated. The main parameter studied was Turbidity. Coagulation experiments using jar test
was performed with a flocculation system where the effects of Turbid Water pH, Retention time
as well as Dosage of Banana Stem Juice on coagulation was examined. A Three Level Factorial
Design in Response Surface Methodology (RSM) using Design Expert software was applied in
the model analysis. Consequently, most of the actual and predicted values closely agreed with
various regression coefficients. The characteristics of the Turbid water was determined with TSS
at 222 mg/L, turbidity at 143 NTU and COD at 89.36 mg/L, BOD at 44.68 mg/L, DO1 at 11.7
mg/L, DO5 at 6.93 mg/L, pH at 7, Temperature at 27.3В°C. Turbidity reduction using Banana Stem
Juice was achieved at pH 6.5 with percentage

Comparing Pride And Prejudice And Letters To Alice
Jane Austen s novel Pride and Prejudice (1813) and Fay Weldon s novel Letters to Alice (1984)
elicit a deeper understanding of human behaviour and social expectations. A comparison of these
two texts highlights the changing expectations of women and the timeless necessity of education.
In Pride and Prejudice, Austen criticises her society s expectations of women as restrictive and
detrimental for their happiness. In the Regency era, women depended on men for wealth or status
by marriage, and women in general were expected to be submissive to men. After Lizzy s walk to
Netherfield, the snobbish Miss Bingley remarks that: It seems to me to show an abominable sort of
conceited independence , her disapproving tone demonstrating that the the expectations ... Show

In 1980s England, marriage was mostly made for love rather than wealth, and women had the right
to vote and work due to the campaigns of second wave feminism of the mid 20th century. Her
juxtaposition of tense: To marry was a great prize ... no wonder Jane Austens heroines were so
absorbed by the matter. It is the stuff of our women s magazines, but it was the stuff of their life,
their very existence shows the relegation of marriage to a luxury rather than an important goal
for women. Weldon reshapes readers critical opinions of Mrs Bennet, formed by 1980s society s
trivialised attitude towards marriage, by explaining her behaviour in relation to her society s
restrictive expectations of marriage and laws of entailment: No wonder Mrs Bennet, driven half
mad by anxiety for her five unmarried daughters, knowing they would be unprovided for when her
husband died ... made a fool of herself in public. Her critical tone: It is too easy to believe that
because something is traditionally women s work, that it is worth nothing demonstrates domesticity
is no longer the sole option for 1980s women. Weldon s critical tone while referencing Austen:
Mansfield Park throbs with the notion that what women need is the moral care and protection of
men shows that the necessity of female dependence on men is no longer necessary in her society.

Rip Van Winkle Allegory
Washington Irving s story of Rip Van Winkle is an allegory of the American Revolutionary War
and the formation of a new nation. Just as Rip Van Winkle struggled to find his freedom and
identity, the new nation also struggled to find their own freedom and identity. In this story, the
character of Rip Van Winklerepresents the colonies, Dame Van Winkle represents England, and the
villagers represent the American citizens. Irving contrasts conditions before and after the
Revolutionary War, and concludes that since obtaining freedom from England, the citizens of
America are more prosperous and engaged in government as they search for a new identity in the
formation of a new nation. Rip Van Winkle, just like the colonies, was viewed by others

He immediately notices the difference in a once dry gully that had changed into a mountain
stream was now foaming down it, leaping from rock to rock, and filling the glen with babbling
murmurs (49). This foretells of a fuller, better life than the old one. Although Rip s house was
abandoned and in ruins and his wife was dead, the village was larger, with more people and
houses. This indicates that the new nation without England s authority was more prosperous,
even though some aspects were ruined in the process of war. Irving writes, The very character of
the people seemed changed. There was a busy, bustling, disputatious tone about it, instead of the
accustomed phlegm and drowsy tranquility (51). Some readers may argue that the new nation
is not as good as the colonies because life is faster paced and people are more involved rather
than a more relaxed society, however life is more lively and full. There is more ambition and
interest in life and government, as opposed to the apathy that existed before the revolution.
While no longer tranquil, there was more engagement from the citizens. Instead of old
newspapers, men were talking about citizen s rights and elections. Instead of idle speeches, Rip
found a man ....haranguing vehemently about rights of citizens elections members of congress

jargon to the bewildered Van Winkle (52). Although initially bewildered by the new changes,
Rip enjoys the peace in his new freedom and eventually goes to live with his daughter in her nice
home, and finds happiness and respect. He took his place once more on the bench at the inn
door, and was reverenced as one of the patriarchs of the village, and a chronicle of the old times
before the war (56). Before the war, Rip was known as a lazy man with a wife that constantly

Posse Commitatus Act Essay
Another law that Cooper has an issue with is the The Posse Comitatus Act. The Posse Comitatus
act made it a felony for the Armed Forces to perform the law enforcement duties of the civilian
police but in 1981 the military was permitted to give civilian police departments access to military
bases, research, and equipment to strengthen these departments capacity to wage the War on Drugs
(Balko, 2006; powell Hershenov, 1990). Policeofficers were then trained to use military
equipment. Reagan declared drugs a national security, lifted the ban on the army s ability to
train the police force, and the police and army began to collaborate. By 1994, the Department of
Defense authorized the large scale transfer of military equipment and technology to police
departments (Balko, 2006; powell Hershenov, 1990). Between the erosion of the 4th amendment
and the Posse Comitatus Act policing had begun to get out of control and poorer neighborhoods
had become the targets. In a single 8 block area of a predominately Black and Latino neighborhood
(home to just 14,000 people), the police conducted 52,000 stop and frisks over a four year period;

average levels of disadvantaged social conditions owing to the role of race in structuring opportunity

while others find that although these neighborhoods are more disadvantaged, there may be other

Leadership Styles And Its Impact On Leadership
Often when there is police corruption in the news, there are individuals who will point fingers not
only at the officers involved but also at the leadership in charge. The mindset, in general, is that if
the leadership had reigned in their officers, then incidents of unruly behavior, excessive use of force
and questionable decision making would not have occurred. Thus, it leads this author to wonder
what impact leadershiptruly has in policing. More specifically, this author is concerned with
discovering if leadership styles have an effect on how effective or ineffective a leader will be within
policing.
Throughout the course of this paper, this author will discuss various types of leadership styles,
behavioral traits and how they pertain to leadership, as well as what determines if a leader is
effective. It is the hope of this author that a discovery will be made to clarify the aforementioned
scopes in regards to their impact on leadership within policing.
Part I: Leadership Styles. Looking throughout the course of history, it is very evident that a
multitude of leadership styles have been employed by world leaders. The President of the United
States, for example, is someone who recognizes the strengths of bureaucratic leadership, strategic
leadership, team leadership, charismatic leadership and situational leadership. The type of
leadership used by the President often depends on the situation that is being addressed. On the other
end of the spectrum, there are some

I went to the Symphony Orchestra s classical concert that premiered Beethoven s Fifth . The event

the show was presented by a short and vivacious development Rondo in D major of Mozart, and
proceeded with Bernstein s SymphonyNo. 2. The second half of the show was dedicated to the four

The Role Of A Manager For Any Capacity At A Business
There are many challenges when playing the role of a manager in any capacity at a business.
Managers need to be able to make informed decisions that can have financial or personnel
impacts, they need to fully understand and implement all organizational policies, and they need
to manage and drive employee performance. Managers are in a state of perpetual assessment.
Performing these tasks in one country and one culture is challenging enough, but from an ethical
point of view, there is a pretty solid line when it comes to areas such as discrimination, customer
relations, and employee interactions here in the United States. There are organizational policies
in place which are relatively standard across industries, as well as local and federal laws that
many of these are based on. The challenge for managers in the global market is that the cultural
differences impact behavior of employees, and it can be difficult to manage an ethical issue the
same here in the United States as you would internationally. Using discrimination as an example,
businesses here in the United States have standard workplace discrimination policies regarding
fair treatment of all workers regardless of race, color, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. Using
gender as an example, in the United States women have an equal right to work and are expected to
be treated the same as their male counterparts, and sexual harassment is taken very seriously. In
some European countries, it is not uncommon for

could be showing signs of dementia if he or she is disoriented and forgetful of things. I would
determine if my loved one is suffering from this disease by getting them checked by a doctor.

The Controversy Of Bribery
A bribe is to persuade someone to act in one s favor, typically illegally or dishonestly, by a gift of
money or other inducements. Many companies have been accused of bribery within their
organization. Some of America s most well known companies have been accused of this crime.
Famous brands we all know such as Johnson Johnson, Hewlett Packard, Tyson Foods, Ralph
Lauren, Wal Mart and many more have all allegedly been responsible for giving money or other
benefits in exchange for favors that will bend the law. Today, corruption costs the global economy
some $2.6 trillion every year, or 5 percent of global GDP , according to the World Economic

One way for a company to avoid bribery within the company is to assess all the risks that have to
do with bribery. Businesses must educate the employees about the risks involved. In most
countries, bribery or acts of corruption are punishable by law which can bring a bad name to the
company and later lead to trust issues. This can severely hinder the profitability of a business. A
company that has been found guilty of bribes can lose consumer confidence; which results in the
loss of profit. Companies must be aware of the differences and rules of conducting business
within other countries and avoid any malpractices (Prevent Bribery). Another way to avoid
bribery is there must be a zero tolerance policy towards bribery within the entire company. This
can be ensured by top management explaining that bribery can lead to severe consequences which
can involve imprisonment, heavy fines, and termination. Additionally, a company must thoroughly
run a background check of the client s, vendors, and partners; as well as their credibility in the
marketplace. Any cases of past history involving instances of bribery or corruption should serve as

Analysis Of The Book Kazuo Ishiguro
Kazuo Ishiguro, although still alive, has already changed the face of the field of literature. He has
done this through the variant style with which he writes and the way that his Japanese background
influences his writing (Sim). He has a unique writing style that is seldom mirrored in the works of
other writers in the same genre (Brownstein). Many critics note that he is always producing
different books that have such diverse plots which proves that the most exciting thing about his
work is just this refusal to stand still as a writer, this desire to push the envelope (Sim). Kazuo
Ishigurois a writer who, like many, enjoys exploring a certain topic or emotion, and he especially
liked writingabout how regrets and memories affect people throughout life (Taylor). His utilization
of memories and regrets helps him make deep meaningful characters who allow people to
sympathize with their causes (Taylor). Kazuo Ishiguro s most important contribution to literature is
the variety he adds to his field by incorporating his Japanese heritage, his twist endings that
surprise readers, the emotions of memories and regret to allow for realistic characters, and his
diverse range of writing.
Kazuo Ishiguro is a British writer who specializes in contemporary fiction. Kazuo Ishiguro has a

What Are The Five Features Of Listening
4.0 EFFECTIVE LISTENING STYLES
There are five features of listening styles, and they are participatory and passive listening; emphatic

Participatory listening can be characterized as poignant whereby during the communication

Oedipus The King Fate Essay
COLLAPSE
I believe fate is an unavoidable and often an unfortunate outcome. Fate is the belief that all events
are determined by the divine will or by some force greater than man, that every event must take
place as it does because it has been predetermined. Not a bible word or teaching. The Greeks
believed that fate should be accepted because it ultimately cannot be avoided.
In the Greek tragedy, Oedipus the King, the irony of fate brings the downfall of Oedipus. Fate, in
this story affects three specific characters. The gods have already decreed Oedipus and Jocasta s fate
even before they know it. Their fate was in fact decreed the day they were born, and trying to
avoid seems to have been pointless.
Oedipus unsuccessfully tries to change his fate. An oracle has confirmed that his destiny is to
marry his mother and kill his father. That s why they tie his legs with a strong roof and order a
shepherd to keep him on the pick of the mountain so that the beasts of the mountain eat him. He
does everything he can to change that fate, but because of his parents actions in ordering him
killed as an infant; his knowledge of the people who ve raised him as parents is incorrect. All in
all, he had no say in his fate and was incapable of changing anything. Thus, we have our tragedy....

Online Child Predators
Nowadays with the use of technology child predators lurk around the internet looking for his or
her next victim. An online child predator is anyone seeking out children or teens to exploit them
for sexual abuse. Online child predators can either be male or female, but most them are male. The
profile of an online child predator is complex, because the predators come from all different
backgrounds.
Online child predators have many methods of locating, grooming, and abusing their victims. These
predators locate their victims online through chatrooms, instant messaging, email, as well as social
media sites (Wolak, Finkelhor, Mitchell, Ybarra 2008). Once the predator finds his victim, he will
then begin grooming the child. The purpose of the grooming process is to establish and gain the
child s trust (Enough is Enough, 2017). The predators grooming tactics include, but not limited to:
flattering and complimenting the child excessively, send gifts, invest time, money, and energy to
groom the child, develop trust and secrecy, manipulate the child by listening to and sympathizing
with the child s problems and insecurities, and make promises of an exciting, stress free life,
tailored to the youth s desire (Enough is Enough, 2017). Once the predator has gained the trust of
his victim, he will then begin to test his boundaries with the child by engaging in sexual
conversation to exploit the child s natural curiosity about sex (Enough is Enough, ... Show more

The Monkeys Paw Character Analysis
Zikera Newsome
6th period
03/07/17 The Monkeys Paw The Monkeys Paw by W.W Jacobs. This novel is taking place
inside and around the White family home, called Laburnum Villa. The novel is probably set
around the time it were to be published; in 1902.The author manipulate time by going slow. The
setting changes but it does not affect how the characters are in the novel. As the story progresses,
the house becomes progressively darker and spookier. He uses the horror genre to talk about
some very serious issues. Sgt. Major Morris tells the Whites that the old fakir who put the spell on

Sgt. Maj. Morris wanted to make three wishes because only three men could use it and the fakir
was the man who put a spell on the paw but it also is a curse. The character I relate to the most is
Mr. White because he is trying to protect the paw and people from it. Inside of the story is Man
vs. Man because Mr. White is making a decision to make a wish or let three other men make the
wishes their selves. Internal because man vs. man is inside decision he is having with himself.
The first thing that happened in the story that changed it was that Mr. White gave the paw away
for a trifle, second thing was that Mr. White came in with two hundred pound of British money,
and the third thing was a man getting hurt in the second scene. A mystery is the outcome of the
man disappearing without anyone knowing what happened. The monkeys paw is the central
idea of the story and everything is around that title from page 26 it says, It had a spell put on it
by an old Fakir, said the Sergeant Major, a very holy man. He wanted to show that fate ruled
people s lives, and that those who interfered with it did so to their sorrow. He put a spell on it so
that three separate men could each have three wishes from it. The first man

Ticket Scalping Case
1.a. The article suggest that beef and chicken are substitutes; as the price of beef increases the
price of chicken will decreases, as its quantity demanded rises due to the rise in the price of beef.
Supply and demand both decrease, causing price of beef to rise and quantity traded to fall,
therefore the equilibrium quantity traded decreases, and price rises. The demand of beef has
decreased, causing an increase of demand for chicken, a substitute which saw a decrease in
price due to an increase in price of beef. Therefore the equilibrium price and quantity traded both
increase in the chicken market. 2.a. Ticket scalping is buying tickets for an event at the retail
price, and then reselling them at an inflated price, which is above the official ticket price. Ticket
scalpers can sell tickets at well above the official ticket price, because they buy tickets for events
that will sell out and people are desperate to attend the events, so they are willing to pay more
than the official price, because the event is sold out and the only way they are able to attend is if
they buy these high priced tickets. The demand for the tickets is often relatively inelastic, because
there are no substitutes for tickets, meaning there is no cheaper option, and supply is limited so
consumers have to pay high prices for tickets. The demand for tickets increases greatly, but the
supply remains unchanged. This increases the equilibrium price and the quantity traded

The Shamanism Of Seances During The Victorian Era
People who believe in spirits, for the most part, belong to one of two groups: those who delight in
ghost stories but run at the first signs of a haunting and those who want nothing more than to
encounter a ghost firsthand. For the latter group, seances are likely the best way to contact the other
side.
Nowadays, a seance may refer to any number of spiritual processes, from automatic writing to
playing with a Ouija board, and it s part of a long history of humans trying to speak to the dead
(see Shamanism in its countless iterations). But, according to the original definition, a seance is a
guided conversation with a single spirit, held at a candlelit table. Most importantly, it should

and U.K. during the Victorian era, the practice s height. Modern spiritualism, in which seances
played a major role, promoted the idea that life did not end when someone s physical form died.
Instead, it was believed that their spirits lingered around, waiting for someone with the supernatural
skills necessary to reach them.
And boy, did those skills vary. Some mediums claimed they could contact ghosts in song, while
others said they needed only a glass of water to sense any spirits present. The most common means
of communication, however, was through a process called table rapping, in which the medium
would enter a quiet, trance like state, ask any spirits present to come forward, and pose a question,
and then the spirit would respond by knocking on the underside of the table (with, for example, one
knock meaning yes and two knocks meaning no ).
Whether or not these mediums were actually able to speak to the dead, they ended up providing a
unique service to the people of the notoriously buttoned up Victorian society. During a seance,
participants were allowed to express themselves freely grief, shock, and fear are totally permissible
(and justifiable) reactions to believing you re speaking to a ghost, after all. Accounts of people

Teamwork Promotes And Establishes Effective Communications...
According to Kinlaw (1991), teamwork is the way in which people must work and cooperate
together in order to produce products or services that could not be produced by a single individual.
To this end, teams appear to have a synergy effect, which implies that the total outcome that is
produced by the team is by far more than the equivalent result which the sum of the team s part
would have had. By and large, the formation of groups is very useful for the organization and its
members, because they perform important tasks. Johnson, Kantner and Kikora (1990) support the
rationale of forming groups through the following arguments: 1.Individuals within the team know
each other well, thus deploying confidence and trust, which results in cooperation and support.
2.Teamwork promotes and establishes effective communications channels within the members of
the team. Daft (1996) considers the formation of teams as critical and immense for the effectual
elaboration of a task, since teams: 1.Encourage and promote creativity and innovation. 2.Are more
effective problem solving devices as opposed to individuals. 3.Enhance the dedication and
commitment needed to implement the decisions 4.Provide greater opportunities for interaction and
5.Increase the coherence within their members. When an employee changes position within a

Doxastic Trust And Preemption Theory Essay
Doxastic trust and Preemption theory support identifying apocalyptic roots through authoritative
topoi. The written expression of Doxastic trust is BcA, where B equals belief and A equals a
resulting compatible belief. Jaakko Hintikka introduced this formula, explaining, In all possible
worlds compatible with what c Believes, it is the case that A ; A (another belief
) follows due to B s
authority, rather than epistemological evidence for A. Scholars writing about Preemption theory
move a step further. A person listening to an authoritative speaker and so accepts p (the
authoritative speaker s view or belief on the subject) will supplant his or her own constructs of
reason with the speaker s in any related area. Christoph JaМ€ger and Paul Faulkner (among other
scholars) have challenged Doxastic trust and Preemption theory of late, but their questions concern
trust development, rather than whether hearer speaker trust exists. Certain necessary conditions,
however, predicate accepting p.

most Second Temple apocalyptic work as writing not just under a famous name, but also assuming
the attached authority and trust. Thus, they also borrow epistemic dependence and semantic

the text, so the writer must borrow from sufficiently authoritative sources to overcome lingering
doubt, leaving available those topoi already accepted by the community whom the authors are
addressing. Otherwise, the borne message lacks authority to affect beliefs negating the author s
purpose. Finding authoritative topoi in apocalyptic literature therefore lays bare the influences by

Marketing Focused Career Within The Retail Industry Essay
After graduation I aspire to be involved in a marketing focused career within the retail industry.
The retail industry is a major contributor for the Australian economy and society. That there are
over 130,000 retail businesses in Australia. In 2015 the retail industry saw an annual sale amount
of $275 billion, up 5% from just that November to the end of trade that year. The retail industry
employed 1.2 million people in the period of 2008 to 2009 and is still continuing to grow.
Throughout the current decade it has become clear the obvious signs of globalisation affecting the
Australian retail industry immensely. Many of the major international retailers have entered the
Australian market such as Aldi, Zara, H M, Costco, Gap, IKEA, and Topshop (James Stewart,
Ferrier Hodgson s retail industry report) 2015. A recent article in the Sydney Morning Herald by
journalist Carolyn Cummins, quotes that the outlook on store expansion in these retailers home
establishments are scarce, however Australia has made more than enough room. Carolyn Cummins
suggests that the retail industry is approaching a more luxury position particularly within Sydney
and Melbourne. Although 95% of the retail businesses in Australia are small businesses, Australia
is known to have one of the most mature and concentrated retail markets in the world. The two
major supermarket retailers Woolworths and Coles obtain 80% of the market share, expected by

organs, people need to spend a lot of money. It is not uncommon for the cost of the transplant

Patient should pay approximately tens of thousands millions just only to take placed in the

Unfortunately, the expenses do not end with surgery; the cost of medications in the year after

The Effects Of Controlled Burns On Rangelands
The Effects of Controlled Burns on Rangelands
Shane J. Methvin
BYU Idaho
Abstract
There are many different techniques or methods used to manage rangelands. These methods have
been implemented to improve the health of a rangeland. One such technique that has been found to
be beneficial is controlled burning. Controlled burning can help improve rangelands for both
livestock and wildlife if managed properly. This is done by burning an area which kills undesirable
woody species, giving desirable, native grass species a chance to bounce back, as they can be
choked out by these competing woody species. Controlled burning can also have negative effects
as well if managed improperly. If controlled burns are managed properly, the overall... Show more

Such was the case in the study conducted by a Texas AgriLife Research Range ecologist
(Ledbetter, 2010). The focus of this study was observing the effects of summer patch fires on the
reduction of unwanted woody plants and prickly pear cacti. In this study, patches were burned
rather than burning pastures as a whole to allow livestock to continue to graze in other areas
simultaneously with the controlled burns. These burns took place in the summer rather than the
winter because, prescribed fire in the summer is more effective in controlling unwanted woody
plants and prickly pear cactus than winter fires because they burn hotter (Ledbetter, 2010). The
results indicated that if controlled burning and rotational grazing are carefully managed, success in
reducing the number of unwanted plants can be achieved (Ledbetter, 2010). Sometimes the public
s opinion about burning rangelands and regulations can influence the ability of landowners and
range managers to perform controlled burns. Many of the grasslands and areas managers wish to
burn have adapted to occasional fires and native grasses can recover quite well, while unwanted
woody species are reduced. Suppression of controlled burns, many times because of the public s
opinion, can lead to an increase in these woody species, competing for nutrients with native grasses.
If controlled burns continue to be suppressed by the public and

The Civil War was an important and defining event in history which helped shape and unite
Americans, however, it mostly aided African Americans and women. It influenced many events
that took place later in history such as bringing the nation together, paving the way for an
industrialized nation, but most importantly, in my opinion, it started the journey of equality for
blacks as well as women. The Civil War was a war between the Northern and Southern states; and
I believe one of the biggest reasons leading to it was the opposing views against slavery. Although,
the Emancipation Proclamation freed slaves, blacks were still not considered equals and continued
to be ill treated and discriminated against. In my opinion this continued to take place, because the
South just as many other individuals in the North did not support or intend to end slavery, but were

Sadly to say, the innocence of children across America will be lost because of the negative
influences of sex and murder that is brought from gangsta rap.
Violence has spread rapidly and has affected many innocent civilians in various urban cities and

50.4% backs and 29,9% whites fell victims of violent crimes. (Graham) More and more people are

Irony In The Sword In The Stone
The Sword in the Stone takes place during the Medieval Times in England in the Forest Sauvage
and a little part of it also occurs in London. In the tale Wart and Kay were walking in the forest
when they encountered a seven foot tall giant by the name of Little John. He brought them to
the camp of a man named Robin Hood. There, Robin tells Wart and Kay that one of his men,
Friar Truck, had been kidnapped and asks if they would be willing to help. He had been
kidnapped by Morgan le Fay, the queen of fairies who had also captured a servant of Sir Ector s
and a village idiot named Wat. Wart and Kay agree to rescue the three men. Prior to Wart and Kay

He is the orphan child who had been adopted by Sir Ector, Kay s father. Wart is a smart good
natured boy who will do anything to please the important people around him. He has a wizard
tutor named Merlyn who throughout the story turns him into different animals during his
lessons. In these lessons he he would meet a lot of animals and become friends with them which
had a big affect on the story. Later when Wart is trying to pull out the sword from the stone he
sees a congregation of his animal friends which gives him confidence to pull out the sword. Kay
is the antagonist in the story and Sir Ector s biological son. He is quite hostile, and has an
aggressive attitude; but sometimes he can be decent at heart. When Wart pulled out the sword
from the stone and gave it to Kay, Kay told Sir Ector that it was he who had pulled out the
sword; subsequently Kay s veneer of wickedness chipped a little and he admitted to lying about
the sword. Sir Ector is the first secondary character. He is peremptory, lively, and is also the
superb father of Wart and Kay. He parents them according to strict rules of conduct and wants
them to learn the most that education can offer. The next secondary character is Merlyn. Merlyn
is Wart s powerful wizard tutor. He is wise, altruistic, and stern. He would also transform Wart
into different animals during his lessons in order for him to learn the many ways of how others
live their lives; and how they are a help to their communities. For example: One time Merlyn
turned Wart into a goose. Wart and another goose would guard the flock while they were eating
so that no other species would attack or come and take the food; and this was a help to the other
geese. All the times that Merlyn would transform Wart later has a big affect on the story when he
is pulling the sword out of the stone; because he does it with the help of all the animals he met on

Reform In The Austrian Empire, Russia, And Great Britain...
There were many efforts for reform in the Austrian Empire, Russia, and Great Britain between 1850
and 1870. In the Austrian Empire, Ausgleich created the Dual Monarchy of Austria Hungary. Each
state was granted its own constitution, legislature and governmental machinery for domestic affairs.
A single monarch was also established to hold the two states together. The Ausgleich was only
successful in allowing the German speaking Austrians and Hungarians to dominate minority groups
such as the Slavic people. In imperial Russia, Alexander issued an emancipation edict that freed
peasants allowing them to own property, freely marry, and bring suits to the law. This wasn t very

against the nobles in violent and repulsive ways. The novel A Tale of Two Cities by Charles
Dickens was set in the scary and difficult time period of the French Revolution. During this time,
the actions of man were inhumane and horrible. Innocent people were being killed without reason
and humans were being treated like animals. The theme of man s inhumanity towards his fellow

Dickens says, If Madame my wife undertook to keep the register in her memory alone, she would
not lose a word of it not a syllable of it. Knitted, in her own stitches and her own syllables, it will
always be as plain to her as the sun (132). The scarf that Madame Defarge is knitting is actually a
register that she is keeping of names of all the people that she thinks must die. Madame Defarge
is keeping this scarf to remember because it is acting as her hit list. Dickens then states, John,
thought Madame, checking off her work as her fingers knitted, and her eyes looked at the
stranger. Stay long enough, and I shall knit BARSAD before you go (139). Madame Defarge
tells Barsad that if he stays long enough she will knit his name onto her scarf that is actually a
list of people to be killed. She says this to Barsad because he is an English spy and Madame
Defarge is very aware of this. Lastly Dickens states, So much was closing in about the women who
sat knitting, knitting, that they their very selves were closing in around a structure yet unbuilt,
where they were to sit knitting, knitting, counting dropping heads (143). The women who are
sitting and knitting are representing people who have a list of people that they want dead. The
structure yet unbuilt is referring to all of the people that cruel revolutionaries think should be dead

Examples Of Foreshadowing In The Birds
In Alfred Hitchcock s The Birds, usually tame birds seem to attack people at random. These bird
attacks cause fear in the town, but could the fear be causing the attacks? Sever emotional turmoil
or desires of the characters in the movie are the cause of the bird attacks. Melanie, Mitch, and Lydia
s inner havoc is shown through the bird attacks.
The first bird attack occurs when Melanie is on the water and the seagull flies into her head. This
seagull represents Mitch s confusion about his feelings for Melanie as he watches her drop the love
birds off at his house. His confusion about his feelings is manifested in the bird attack and how
him and Melanie can hurt each other. The seagull attack is also a foreshadowing for Melanie of

  • 2. Two Generations Research Paper This generation, millennials, has a vastly different way of making it in the world than that of people from two generations ago. I interviewed my maternal grandmother for this assignment. We were raised relatively close to the same place, but in majorly different times. Blue Ridge, Georgia is only 7.5 miles from Cherry Log, Georgia. Quite a few of our answers matched, and I believe that s because my mother raised me and my two sisters the same way my grandmother raised her which was influenced by her upbringing. In addition to that, I spent a copious amount of my time as a child with my grandparents. While I was in their house, I followed their rules, which were stricter than my own parents rules, and it has made me see the world we are living... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The scientific name of saccharin is 2 benzothiazol 1,1,3 trione. Saccharin is used as an artificial sweetener as even though only a small amount of it is used, it is as sweet as sugar when used in large amount. This concept which leads many people to have the belief that it is healthier to use artificial sweetenerssuch as saccharin compared to sugar. Saccharin was first discovered by Constantin Fahlberg, a chemist working on coal tar derivatives in the year 1897. One night, after a day of laboratory work, Fahlberg sat down to dinner. He picked up a roll with his hand and bit into a remarkably sweet crust. Fahlberg realised that he had accidentally spilled an experimental compound over his hands earlier that day. Human behavior is an extraordinarily interesting subject and therefore produces a plethora of ideas from a variety of theorists. These theorists are influenced by their education, culture, and time period. One of the most influential, empathetically understanding, theorists is Carl Rogers. The client is in turn aided by the therapist in becoming as authentic as possible. Thus this authenticity would provide the client with the ability to be true to themselves and their feelings. I find this to be useful in allowing the client to process their internal feelings, externally. According to Truscott (2010), Therapists must be willing and able to listen without prejudice, judgment, or agenda if the client is to have any chance of feeling truly understood and accepted. Positive feelings, negative feelings, and silence must be acceptable to the therapist (p. 73). This is interesting because it requires that the therapists become void of any judgments. To me this seems like a difficult task to accomplish because of the nature of judgments. Understandably so, the therapist would automatically make judgments of the client, as a natural inclination even with the best intentions against judgments. Comparing Pride And Prejudice And Letters To Alice Jane Austen s novel Pride and Prejudice (1813) and Fay Weldon s novel Letters to Alice (1984) elicit a deeper understanding of human behaviour and social expectations. A comparison of these two texts highlights the changing expectations of women and the timeless necessity of education. In Pride and Prejudice, Austen criticises her society s expectations of women as restrictive and detrimental for their happiness. In the Regency era, women depended on men for wealth or status by marriage, and women in general were expected to be submissive to men. It is the stuff of our women s magazines, but it was the stuff of their life, their very existence shows the relegation of marriage to a luxury rather than an important goal for women. Weldon reshapes readers critical opinions of Mrs Bennet, formed by 1980s society s trivialised attitude towards marriage, by explaining her behaviour in relation to her society s restrictive expectations of marriage and laws of entailment: No wonder Mrs Bennet, driven half mad by anxiety for her five unmarried daughters, knowing they would be unprovided for when her husband died ... made a fool of herself in public. Irving writes, The very character of the people seemed changed. There was a busy, bustling, disputatious tone about it, instead of the accustomed phlegm and drowsy tranquility (51). Some readers may argue that the new nation is not as good as the colonies because life is faster paced and people are more involved rather than a more relaxed society, however life is more lively and full. The mindset, in general, is that if the leadership had reigned in their officers, then incidents of unruly behavior, excessive use of force and questionable decision making would not have occurred. Thus, it leads this author to wonder what impact leadershiptruly has in policing. More specifically, this author is concerned with discovering if leadership styles have an effect on how effective or ineffective a leader will be within policing. Managers are in a state of perpetual assessment. Performing these tasks in one country and one culture is challenging enough, but from an ethical point of view, there is a pretty solid line when it comes to areas such as discrimination, customer relations, and employee interactions here in the United States. There are organizational policies in place which are relatively standard across industries, as well as local and federal laws that many of these are based on. The challenge for managers in the global market is that the cultural differences impact behavior of employees, and it can be difficult to manage an ethical issue the same here in the United States as you would internationally. The first thing that happened in the story that changed it was that Mr. White gave the paw away for a trifle, second thing was that Mr. White came in with two hundred pound of British money, and the third thing was a man getting hurt in the second scene. A mystery is the outcome of the man disappearing without anyone knowing what happened. • 23. Ticket Scalping Case 1.a. The article suggest that beef and chicken are substitutes; as the price of beef increases the price of chicken will decreases, as its quantity demanded rises due to the rise in the price of beef. Supply and demand both decrease, causing price of beef to rise and quantity traded to fall, therefore the equilibrium quantity traded decreases, and price rises. The demand of beef has decreased, causing an increase of demand for chicken, a substitute which saw a decrease in price due to an increase in price of beef. Therefore the equilibrium price and quantity traded both increase in the chicken market. 2.a. Ticket scalping is buying tickets for an event at the retail price, and then reselling them at an inflated price, which is above the official ticket price. Ticket scalpers can sell tickets at well above the official ticket price, because they buy tickets for events that will sell out and people are desperate to attend the events, so they are willing to pay more than the official price, because the event is sold out and the only way they are able to attend is if they buy these high priced tickets. The demand for the tickets is often relatively inelastic, because there are no substitutes for tickets, meaning there is no cheaper option, and supply is limited so consumers have to pay high prices for tickets. The demand for tickets increases greatly, but the supply remains unchanged. This increases the equilibrium price and the quantity traded ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 24. The Shamanism Of Seances During The Victorian Era People who believe in spirits, for the most part, belong to one of two groups: those who delight in ghost stories but run at the first signs of a haunting and those who want nothing more than to encounter a ghost firsthand. For the latter group, seances are likely the best way to contact the other side. Nowadays, a seance may refer to any number of spiritual processes, from automatic writing to playing with a Ouija board, and it s part of a long history of humans trying to speak to the dead (see Shamanism in its countless iterations). Modern spiritualism, in which seances played a major role, promoted the idea that life did not end when someone s physical form died. Instead, it was believed that their spirits lingered around, waiting for someone with the supernatural skills necessary to reach them. And boy, did those skills vary. Some mediums claimed they could contact ghosts in song, while others said they needed only a glass of water to sense any spirits present. The most common means of communication, however, was through a process called table rapping, in which the medium would enter a quiet, trance like state, ask any spirits present to come forward, and pose a question, and then the spirit would respond by knocking on the underside of the table (with, for example, one knock meaning yes and two knocks meaning no ). Whether or not these mediums were actually able to speak to the dead, they ended up providing a unique service to the people of the notoriously buttoned up Victorian society. • 25. Teamwork Promotes And Establishes Effective Communications... According to Kinlaw (1991), teamwork is the way in which people must work and cooperate together in order to produce products or services that could not be produced by a single individual. To this end, teams appear to have a synergy effect, which implies that the total outcome that is produced by the team is by far more than the equivalent result which the sum of the team s part would have had. By and large, the formation of groups is very useful for the organization and its members, because they perform important tasks. Johnson, Kantner and Kikora (1990) support the rationale of forming groups through the following arguments: 1.Individuals within the team know each other well, thus deploying confidence and trust, which results in cooperation and support. 2.Teamwork promotes and establishes effective communications channels within the members of the team. Daft (1996) considers the formation of teams as critical and immense for the effectual elaboration of a task, since teams: 1.Encourage and promote creativity and innovation. 2.Are more effective problem solving devices as opposed to individuals. 3.Enhance the dedication and commitment needed to implement the decisions 4.Provide greater opportunities for interaction and 5.Increase the coherence within their members. • 35. The Effects Of Controlled Burns On Rangelands The Effects of Controlled Burns on Rangelands Shane J. Methvin BYU Idaho Abstract There are many different techniques or methods used to manage rangelands. These methods have been implemented to improve the health of a rangeland. One such technique that has been found to be beneficial is controlled burning. Controlled burning can help improve rangelands for both livestock and wildlife if managed properly. This is done by burning an area which kills undesirable woody species, giving desirable, native grass species a chance to bounce back, as they can be choked out by these competing woody species. Controlled burning can also have negative effects as well if managed improperly. If controlled burns are managed properly, the overall... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Such was the case in the study conducted by a Texas AgriLife Research Range ecologist (Ledbetter, 2010). The focus of this study was observing the effects of summer patch fires on the reduction of unwanted woody plants and prickly pear cacti. In this study, patches were burned rather than burning pastures as a whole to allow livestock to continue to graze in other areas simultaneously with the controlled burns. These burns took place in the summer rather than the winter because, prescribed fire in the summer is more effective in controlling unwanted woody plants and prickly pear cactus than winter fires because they burn hotter (Ledbetter, 2010). The results indicated that if controlled burning and rotational grazing are carefully managed, success in reducing the number of unwanted plants can be achieved (Ledbetter, 2010). Sometimes the public s opinion about burning rangelands and regulations can influence the ability of landowners and range managers to perform controlled burns. Many of the grasslands and areas managers wish to burn have adapted to occasional fires and native grasses can recover quite well, while unwanted woody species are reduced. Suppression of controlled burns, many times because of the public s opinion, can lead to an increase in these woody species, competing for nutrients with native grasses.
