Drinking Alcoholic Beverages
DRINKING ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES
An alcoholic beverage is a drink containing ethanol, commonly known as alcohol. Alcoholic
beverages are divided into three general classes: beers, wines, and spirits (or distilled beverage).
They are legally consumed in most countries, and over 100 countries have laws regulating their
production, sale, and consumption.[1] In particular, such laws specify the minimum age at which a
person may legally buy or drink them. This minimum age varies between 16 and 25 years,
depending upon the country and the type of drink. Most nations set it at 18 years of age.[1]
The production and consumption of alcohol occurs in most cultures of the world, from hunter
gatherer peoples to nation states.[2][3] Alcoholic beverages ... Show more content on

However, there are some controversies regarding this definition mainly because the large number of
chemical substances reported in chemistry literature need to be indexed.
Isomerism caused much consternation to early researchers, since isomers have exact the same
composition, but differ in configuration (arrangement) of the atoms. For example, there was much
speculation for the chemical identity of benzene, until the correct structure was described by
Friedrich August KekulГ©. Likewise, the idea of stereoisomerism that atoms have rigid three
dimensional structure and can thus form isomers that differ only in their three dimensional
arrangement was another crucial step in understanding the concept of distinct chemical substances.
For example, tartaric acid has three distinct isomers, a pair of diastereomers with one diastereomer
forming two enantiomers. chemical is a form of matter that has constant chemical composition and
characteristic properties.[1] It cannot be separated into components by physical separation

Art And Art
What is Art? Art is the aesthetic experiences we encounter when we are exposed to new responses
of sight, hearing, taste, touch and smell (McGraw 2013). According to McGraw no society has
lived without some form of art in human history. (2013) We have the ability to create images that
have evolved and find a new relationship with each one. Art is composed of meaningfulness in
every aspect, from the artist perspective. The symbolism of art changes from era to era. Art is
created by individuals who have acquired traits of; sensitivity, flexibility, originality, playfulness,
productivity, fluency, analytical and organizational skills (McGraw 2013). We will later elaborate
on these traits individually through pieces of art. The shift of cultures has impacted the trait of art,
through eras of history, which impact artist mindset and modern culture.
The meaning of Art to me personally is something that you should have a connection with and or
understanding of what the artist is talking about by looking at the painting or drawing. The quality,
production, expression, or realm, according to aesthetic principles, of what is beautiful, appealing,
or of more than ordinary . (dictionary) Referring to our textbook Living with Art refers to as Art
being simplified, fragmented and distorted. With that being said Art is needed to be natural and
stylized in it s own unique way.
In Art there are eras that had started in the BC s, just like stone age had started in

Compare And Contrast Tocqueville And Crevecoeur
People in Great Britain wanted to escape the aristocracy and establish freedom for themselves
and their families. The writings of Alexis de Tocqueville, in Democracy in America, and J.
Hector St. John Crevecoeur s, Letter from an American Farmer, helped catapult the idea of
America being this new land of the brave and free. According to Tocqueville, American became
a place where the Puritans found freedom for themselves. The Puritans really pushed for
democracy and equality in this new land as a vast dichotomy of what they escaped in Britain.
America being a place of democracy that was not dependent upon a royal family and aristocracy
for ruling was a source of pride for the people and made America unique. Additionally, the idea of
its people having power, rights, and a constitution to protect that supported the idea of equality and
liberty. Crevecoeur stated, He persecutes nobody, and nobody persecutes him, he visits his
neighbors, and his neighbors visit him. There is the idea that in America one can be themselves and
everyone has the same basic human rights. Crevecoeur s writing differed from Tocqueville in the
accuracy of America at the time and how accessible the American Dream actually was for all of the
people living in America. The writings of Tocqueville and Crevecoeur highlight these great
accomplishments by Americans and shifts the narrative of America being run by natives and
British immigrants to American being run by Americans. Alexis de Tocqueville
, in Democracy in
America, initiated a trend in American studies by examining the shift from aristocracy to
democracy. This new world run by the people and not by kings was fascinating at the time and
very different, thus making America unique. Democracy was especially a source of pride in
America because it actually worked unlike in other places, like France. Tocqueville states, The
government democracy brings the notion of political rights to the level of the humblest citizens,
just as the dissemination of wealth brings the notion of property within the reach of all the
members of the community; and I confess that, to my mind, this is one of its greatest advantages.
This became a catalyst for a shift in American studies because essentially

“Religion was more important than politics in the failure...
Religion was more important than politics in the failure of King and Parliament to reach a
settlement. 1646 1649 , Assess the validity of this statement.
In January 1649, King Charles I was executed after being charged with high treason due to political
and religious reasons, some of which contributed to his refusal in accepting the peace settlements
given to him by Parliament. Charles refusal to compromise was supported by the division that had
emerged within Parliament on how to fight the civil war between the Political Presbyterians and
Political Independents. The main factors of the failure to reach a settlement were religion, politics,
Charles intransigence, the New Model Army and the emergence of radical ideas; all of which ...

Still Ireton spoke for the grandees which did include Cromwell and insisted that the franchise
should be restricted to those with a permanent fixed interest in the kingdom as Seel 2 says, and that
the vote should go to those who possessed property or there would otherwise be a disturbance to a
good constitution of the kingdom . This was seen as important because the views of the religious
radicals made settlements more difficult and furthermore increased the tension of division among
those in the army and in parliament.
The politicisation of the New Model Army also played a significant role in the failure to reach a
settlement in the years 1646 to 1649 between Charles and Parliament. What made the army
politicised was the concerns of their wages of ВЈ3 million in arrears and the possibility of being
faced with the charges of committing offences from the First Civil War, as Parliament had not
passed an indemnity act. The army presented Charles with the Heads of The Proposals in 1647,
which links back to religious division in parliament, , under Cromwell and Ireton s influence,
putting forward more stricter terms such as religious toleration was to be more effective to a
wider degree and that the army was to be controlled by parliament for only ten years instead of
twenty, making the army seem like a

In Cold Blood Perry Quotes
In the book In Cold Blood by Truman Capote, one of the two killers, Perry Smith, is presented to
be an emotional villain whose actions towards others reflects the way society has treated him. The
traumatic and broken childhood that Perry endured did not only leave him untrusting of others but
was a gateway to the dramatic and unpleasant life that Perry lived. Not only shown through his
criminal actions, but every aspect of Perry s life is negatively marked by his experiences,
illustrating the trainwreck that his life turned out to be.
Perry s complicated feelings towards society is shown through his treatment of the Clutters during
the home invasion. Perry s erratic treatment of the family, showing both kindness and ruthless
violence, puzzles the detectives on the case. This inconsistent behavior is a reflection of both the
abuse he suffered throughout his life as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When confronted by Dick he made his opinion known and was even willing to get in a fight if the
argument got out of hand. While Dick and Perry are on the run, they are very cautious about who
to trust. However, at the sight of a wondering kid and his sick grandfather, Perry refuses to leave
them stranded saying, Frankly, I don t give a damn. You want to put them out? Then by all means....
Go ahead. Put them out. But I ll be getting out, too (Capote 209). When confronted by Dick he not
only argues on their behalf but threatens to leave if he does not have his way. After heartlessly
killing four people, Perry is willing to risk his only partnership for these strangers. Once again,
Perry s unexpected compassion juxtaposes the harsh and cruel life that he lives. This is again
demonstrated when Perry intervenes when Dick begins to make advances on Nancy. Even in the
wake of the horror that unfolded in the Clutter household, it was important to Perry to leave the
family with their

Role Of The Thief Takers During Early Civilizations
1.Fifth century Organized police departments were rare in early civilizations. Rome created the
first specialized investigate unit. These units were known as Questors, or trackers of murder . Also
around this time Roman emperor Augustus picked special, highly qualified members of the
military to form the Praetorian Guard which could be considered the first policeofficers. Their job
was to protect the palace and the emperor. Vigiles were known as early roman firefighters and were
eventually also given law enforcementresponsibilities.

thief takers . These private citizens had no official status and were paid by the king for every ...

6.Policing in the 1980 to 1990 Computer revolution in policing began. A drastic reduction in
violent crimes started to happen. CompStat which is year to date statistics for criminal complaints

occurred. The terrorist attack known as 9/11 happened and its aftermath. Homeland security came
about and also the U.S.A. Patriot Act. Hurricane Katrina occurred, many corrupt cops left after the
hurricane hit instead of lending a helping hand.
The Era that I feel like had the most impact in policing was the 2000 s. I feel like this era had the
most impact in policing because after the terrorist attack known as 9/11 happened I feel like
police officers had to make changes amongst themselves. Before 9/11 happened, police officers
didn t know how to address a terrorist attack. After this tragic event happen, I believe police
departments had to start training officers for situations like terrorism to

Overview of the Natural Gas Industry
Natural Gas Industry Employee
Cover Letter
I am currently working as a natural gas regulator assistant inspector on a full time basis. Basically
this position required me to work in a formal apprenticeship, and I was trained and became
familiarized with all the important particulars of this job.
What my trainers made very clear to me is the importance of workers in the natural gas industry
having a deep understanding of all the implications relating to safety. There have been some
catastrophic explosions due to leaking gas pipelines in recent years, and energy companies want to
hire people that are very alert, intelligent, and who are willing to learn and be good listeners during
training and once on the job.
I am one of those quality employees. I feel fortunate to have this position, and moreover, I have
conducted research into the industry giving particular attention to the specifics of my own job,
duties and responsibilities and I present that information through this report. Learning well,
following directions, and being competent are things my family taught me, and I do believe I am
well suited for my position and will be able to climb the ladder and be given more responsibility
as time goes by and my supervisors become confident in my aptitude and my work ethic.
Abstract
The position of a natural gas regulator assistant inspector is a very important position because in
addition to the quality assurance and economic aspects, there are important safety aspects

Demeter Vs. The Herdsman And The Weaver
In mythology, there are many stories, tales, or myths that have many things in common. Along with
these similarities, are differences. Just like other myths that we have read, the myths Demeter and
The Herdsman and the Weaver contain many similar characters, plot, and possibly setting.
Both myths have a similar character and a plot; a king and two people who care deeply for each
other but are seperated. In the first myth Demeter, Hades (the king of the underworld) stole
Persephone (the daughter of Demeter) away from her mother (Demeter), who was the goddess of
grains and fruit. Hades took Persephone to the underworld because he wanted her as his bride and
thought she would brighten up his life. Demeter became very depressed and along with her
happiness, the world started to die. Similar to the first myth, in The Herdsman and the Weaver
there was also a king. The king decided to find his lovely daughter, the greatest weaver in the
world, a husband. He discovered a herdsman who he thought would make a fine husband. After the
young couple was married, they started to spend all their time together frolicking in the fields. The
king warned them not to abandon their talent and work but they did not listen, so the king decided
to punish them. The king made the herdsman live in the Eastern sky and his daughter in the
western sky. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Isolation In Richard Bone By Mr. Bone
In Richard Bone , Mr. Bone describes a self imposed emotional isolation. He is new to Spoon
River and finds work carving tombstones; consequently, he does not know the citizens well enough
to know if they speak the truth or are making a last effort to glorify their deceased loved ones. In
lines 8 9 Bone discloses, And I chiseled for them whatever they wished, / All in ignorance of its
truth. Initially, he is emotionally isolated; however, Mr. Bone chooses to venture out of his comfort
zone and into the community where he learns the truths and complexities that compose the citizens
of Spoon River. This leads one to assume that when he found himself unhappy with his seclusion he
sought to change his situation, a worthwhile decision. As he lives among them he becomes privy to
the truthfulness of the epitaphs, but continues to carve the false eulogies although one can infer
that Bone does this partially to keep his standing in the community, as not to return to his state of
isolation.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Voodoo Science Research Paper
Short Essay On Voodoo Science FREEZING WATER IN PLASTIC BOTTLES RELEASES
HARMFUL CHEMICALS An element of voodoo science is introduced with this topic, as we
are going to explore how freezing water in plastic bottles may or may not release harmful
chemicals. In reality, we are subjecting ourselves to the possibly fallible and unverified claims
of the experts, and of other people from the public when we decide to blindly listen to anything
that seems even slightly credible. That is the point of the science being voodoo, they are able to
control one s actions by coming up with any variety of claim that can encourage or discourage
them from implementing certain behaviors in their lives (Lamb, 2003). One of those infamous
claims will be explored here The first step in determining what kind of science this is, is asking
the two questions about the subject: Is it supported by reliable/reproducible observations? Can it
be explained in terms of a rational model? Well, it is supported by the scientific community that
carcinogen dioxin is an extremely dangerous chemical that does in fact cause cancer (Energy
Justice Network). The scientific community however does not support that this kind of chemical is
found is plastic, especially the kind that is used to produce our... Show more content on

Freezing water would more likely prevent a release of chemicals then trigger it, seeing as such
releases are not likely to occur under such cold temperatures. Another problem that people should
worry about is the quality of the water that they are drinking, and not so much the type of
container that it is coming out of (Plastic Myths). After all, it results that voodoo science is
affecting the behavior of millions with this scientific claim. When all is said and done, it ends up
being a bad principle on one s belief window, that drives certain behaviors which will not end up
satisfying their needs. This myth has been

Christian Worldview And The Secular Worldview Of Account
To compare the Christian worldview to the secular worldview of account, one must understand
the definition of what a worldview is and what a Christian worldview looks like as well as what
a secular worldview looks. According to Valk (2012), Worldviews are those larger pictures that
inform and in turn form our perceptions of reality. They are visions of life as well as ways of
life, are individual and personal, yet bind adherents together communally (p. 1). It is not
uncommon for individuals to have different worldviews because the meaning of the word is a set
of beliefs one uses to understand the world. All people grow up viewing the world differently
because to the different things they experience in their lives. A worldview defines the... Show more

Here the only thing that matters is a man. Within secular philosophy individuals only trust the
scientific method to know anything. So basically, if something can t be observed, tested, or
experimented, then it does not exist. This is why there is no room for spirituality because it can
t be tested, so that means it does not exist. Secular ethics are based on what humans decide as far
as standards and values. Humans depend on science, reason, and a historical experience to figure
out what is right and what is wrong. It s tricky because standards will not be the same for
everyone because everyone has a different background and reason. There are different views within
secular science, psychology, sociology, law, politics, economics, and history which are all based on
man and mans perspective. Overall secular humanist view everything from the standpoint of what
is seen and what can be known the senses. Hitchcock (1994) stated the following: The ultimate
failure of Secular Humanism is in the fact that of its very nature is promises what it cannot fulfill.
By encouraging people to put their trust in earthly happiness, it programs them for disillusionment.
This is in no small measure the reason why the history of the modern world has been characterized,
intellectually, by philosophies of pessimism like Existentialism and by often rancorous bitterness
over various plans for worldly improvement. In the twentieth century, mass slaughter has been

Generational Differences Between Baby Boomers and Millennials and The Impacts on HR
Kimberly Senkler
September 14, 2010
Human Resource Management BA 421 KP Normally we tend to think of diversity in relation to
age, race, gender and religion. These days there is more focus being given to diversity in the form
of generational differences.
While the other factors in diversity (age, race, gender and religion) tend to lead to legal issues,
generational diversity is generally more of a performance issue. Generations can be loosely
defined as bodies of individuals born and living at about the same time. Each generation is molded
by distinctive experiences during their critical developmental periods (Twenge, 2008). The... Show

Millennials tend to be technologically advanced and eager to learn. They also value social
responsibility and team work. They are often seen as impatient and quick to express opinions
without having all of the data. Millennials are quick to jump ship if they do not feel if they are
progressing fast enough, often at speeds that might be seen as unreasonable. Dayan (2005) says
that about 5.6 million Millennials are about to enter the employment market. Millennials are
said to be the most challenging generation for employers. Attracting Boomers and Millennials
The number of employees over the age of 55 has increased by 30 percent; however, the number
of 25 to 54 year olds has only increased by 1 percent (Claire, 2009). In 2008 the eldest of the 77
million baby boomers turned 62. Estimates are that by the end of the decade about 40 percent of
the work force will be eligible to retire. As people begin to reach the age of retirement there may
be not be enough new employees to fill the gap (Clare, 2009). Companies need to find ways to
attract Boomers and Millennials. Companies that want to attract Boomers and Millennials need to
be creative in their culture, HR policies and work environments. According to the U.S. Census
Bureau the number of people 65 and older will possibly double by the year 2030. According to
Yager (2008) forecasts are showing that the United States could reach a labor shortage by 2030. As

An Ethical Dilemma Essay
According to Viren Swami, a professor at the University of Westminster, animal testing, or animal
research, refers to the use of animals in experiments within academic, research, or commercial
establishments (Christopher, 269). Sounds simple enough, but Swami does not mention how this
testing affects the animals or why this is such a controversial issue among the public. M.J. Prescott,
from the National Center for the Replacement, Refinement and Reduction of Animal Research,
makes a very good point when he says that:
Many people, including from within the scientific community, consider that the use of NHPs
[nonhuman primates] in research is a matter of particular ethical concern because certain features

Are we, human beings, morally justified in causing animals pain, suffering, distress and/or lasting
harm in research aimed at alleviating or preventing human suffering, or furthering scientific
knowledge? (Prescott, 12) Some people might answer this question by saying that it depends on
what kind of research is being done. Others might say that the use of animals for human benefit is
morally unacceptable. Prescott makes another great point about the use of any animal for medical
research when he says, ...it is difficult for us, as human beings, to judge capacities for suffering in,
or to empathize with, species who are evolutionarily different from us... (15). This answers his
previously posed question about whether or not humans are justified to cause pain to animals by
saying that humans cannot accurately judge how much pain an animal is in that is being used for
medical research. When it comes to the use of NHPs and how they are treated after being used for
medical research, the majority of NHPs used in experiments are euthanized, either because their
tissues are required as part of the experiment or on compassionate grounds to alleviate unnecessary
suffering (Prescott, 15). This seems humane enough, but the animals being used would not
normally have gone through these medically induced situations in the wild, so their death would be
premature when compared to NHPs that live in the wild. There has been an increase in the

The Failure Of The American School System
The source of the American school system s failure has much to do with the fact that it is simply
outdated. It was set up in the late 1800s and early 1900s in order to meet the rampant needs of
America s newly industrialized economy. Public schooling supplied factories with a skilled labor
force, and provided basic literacy to the masses, and it was the educationthat the vast majority of
the population received. The overall implementation of our current schoolsystem credits itself to
educational reformer Horace Mann, known as the father of American public schooling. Horace
Mann examined a broad range of various educational models before eventually putting into effect
the Prussian model. Designed by Frederick the Great, this model s aim was to create a system
designed to exercise... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was also the easiest and most economical way to teach literary skills on a large scale. Social
efficiency theorists began to enact this system during the early 20th century in an endeavor to
industrialize the educational process. Led by educators such as Ellwood Cubberley, they treated
education as a means of social engineering. Our schools are, in a sense, factories in which the raw
products (children) are to be shaped and fashioned into products to meet the various demands of
life. (Cubberley, 1917). Building upon the depersonalized monotony and rigorous hierarchy of the
Prussian system, they formed an industrial education model devised to mass produce millions of
workers for America s factories. These theorists believed that most of America s students were
destined for a life of menial, industrial labor. Thus, they designed a multi track educational system
intended to categorize pupils from an early age. While the best and brightest were tailored for
leadership ranks, the preponderance was confined to a tedious education of rote learning and task

The Concerning Issue of Air Pollution
One of the most concerning issues that has affected the entire world is air pollution, but we do
not seemed to see it as a serious problem to take care off until now. Scientist from the World Health
Organization released information on their research that was taken place in 2012. About 7 million
lives around the world was claimed by air pollutionand more than one third were from fast
developing countries from India to Japan, but China was the most concentrated area of air
pollution. China has a goal to urbanize very quickly that the cities do not think about planning on
proper waste dumping and helping the environment. The mast movement of urbanization will
affect the farmers greatly because they rely on the environment to be clean and using the sun to
help grown their crops. The World Bank study offered advice to China that building dense cities
will be more efficient so the people in China could avoid larger risk of pollution from long
commutes traveling and high energy consumption. China did listen to the advice but they still
want to reach their goal. China wants about 60 percent of the population to be living in cities by
2020, as of right now they are at 54 percent of their goal. The World Bank and World Health
Organizationsaid the greatest threats to human health are burning noxious fuels from coal, wood,
and animal waste. (Jacobs and Johnson, 2014) China s largest reason for air pollution is the use of
coal, because two thirds of the country uses it for energy.

The Wonder Woman Feminism
During my junior year, my parents had allowed my uncle to live with us. At one point I got tired
of hearing some of the things he was saying so I got up to walk away. Immediately he got up and
charged after me shouting. I locked myself in my room and listened as he screamed to my
parents that I was a stuck up bitch who needed to learn some goddamn respect . I shouldn t be
called a bitch for having my own opinions and deciding to walk away from a situation. This idea
that men are superior to women, and women need to be submissive to them has been ingrained into
our society. With the recent release of Wonder Woman
, directed by Patty Jenkins, many people
have called into question how well Wonder Woman otherwise known as Diana in the movie
relates to feminism, and represents a positive image or an inspirational figure for women and
young girls in today s society. One of these people is Zoe Heller, who in turn wrote the article
God s Gift to Men . While I don t believe this was meant to be the typical inspiring feminist movie
that tells women to act like ball busters . I believe that Heller over analyzed this movie, and tried
to make it into her idea of what feminism is: where women preach about how they should be
treated and how others should view themselves. Heller started off by providing a quote from the
New York Times where it stated that they would be ending a campaign to make Wonder Woman
into an inspirational figure. She then addresses Diana s costume, which the

Legal Issues Surrounding Emergency Service Agencies
Introduction The Emergency Services organizations in the United States are complex and
challenging group s that are a required necessity of all communities, based on law. The fire service
part of the emergency services have been around over two hundred years and has been the
backbone of many emergency service agencies on how the culture is built and how everyday
actions are completed within the emergency services, there has been cultural ambivalence within
the Emergency Service on how to deal with employees, with the current laws and regulations. Many
of the employment issues within the emergency services have been due to the increase in members
of the emergency services pushing back on the old cultural practices of the agencies or governments
who govern the emergency service agencies. It is evident that in some incidents that the politics and
old traditional cultures have made issues of diversity, leadership issues and equal rights issues.
There is growing professional literary evidence that acknowledges the legal issues surrounding
emergency service agencies (Rielage, 2008). Each and every level of government should have
regulatory compliance rules and general employment rules that all members of the organization
must follow. Additionally, these rules must fall within the Constitutionand Civil Rights of each and
all personnel involved in the organizations. Many emergency service agencies are run as a separate
part of a government agency and thus many times

theory that looks at the acts of the criminal as learned behaviors. (Bergeron, 2015) Sutherland
proposed that through interactions with others, individuals, young or old, learn to develop the
techniques, attitudes, values, and motives for criminal behavior. When a child is born, they adapt
to what those around them say, wear, eat, etc., and they begin to learn the understanding of societal
norms and values. If a child is growing up in a household where he or... Show more content on

By having law enforcement patrolling neighborhoods and arresting those who are committing
crimes will help to keep the community safer. Deviant criminals should be incarcerated and then
should have to participate in a rehabilitation program to help make sure the criminal act does not
get repeated. Overall, these two Social Process Theories each help to explain how children who
are exposed to violence at a young age may grow up to become violent because they adapted to
the behaviors of their elders and why those who commit crimes get labeled as deviant. By police
patrolling rough neighborhoods to try and reduce the crime rate is a start to children not having to
grow up around violence and it ll stop people from being labeled a criminal. By families removing

The Wild, By Jon Krakauer
The Youth And Their Risks
If you take no risks, you will suffer no defeats. But if you take no risks, you win no victories.
(Richard M. Nixon). In his investigative biography, Into the Wild, Jon Krakauer, expresses that
even though young people can be ignorant and take treacherous risks, these can be used as
knowledge enhancers and can be life changers. Krakauer gives us insight by giving examples of
what risk really are, how people take them, and how it actually affects those people. Throughout
the whole book, there are instances where Krakauer uses real life examples of things that have
happened where people have taken risks and the outcomes of that. In general, one has to take
risks in life to truly find oneself and Krakauer says It can be argued that youthful derring do is in
fact evolutionarily adaptive, a behavior encoded in our genes (182). Krakauer explains that for
teenagers the idea of doing outrageous things comes easily to them because it s only natural for
them. Krakauer explains that for teenagers, doing crazy things is due to the fact that adventure
lives in their blood and this has been going on for many centuries. For a teenager death and
injury seems like a joke, they don t even consider these, the absence of fear of death makes them
feel invincible and causing them to take so many risks. There are so many examples in history of
young people who have left so much behind only to start what they would believe is a new life.
Krakauer includes a whole two

United Nations Peacekeeping Operations Before and After...
How did the historical facts change Peacekeeping operations before and after the cold war? History
In order to understand the concept behind peacekeeping we have to first look at the history of
this UN term and how it got established. The initial kick off year was 1948 (un.org) when the
Security Council deployed troops to the Middle East in order to observe the region. It was the
outcome of the creation of the state Israel and the rest of the land piece was given and left over to
the Palestinian Arabs. The Arab society and the Arab Nation leaders did not accept this division
which caused the conflict. At first the UN sent only observers and peaceful troops to the region ...

Two main characters play a big role in this conflict. One was the leader of the soviet union
Khrushchev who said that he wants to launch and shower the west with nuclear weapons. (cbc.ca)
After this comment the Council met and tried to find a solution for the problem when the second
character came into the scene Lester B. Pearson who later won a Nobel Prize for Peace. He came
up with the idea to deploy troops into the conflict area. His words were: A United Nationsforce
large enough to keep those borders at peace while a political settlement is being worked out .
(cbc.ca) With this idea of conflict resolution he opened the world to the term peacekeeping
operations which were from that moment onwards led by united forces. Canada, the home country
of Pearson, was present in every single peacekeeping operation conducted by the UN. Continuing
onwards from this point in history all the Peace operations during the cold war were a lot of
controversy and hate was dominating the Security Council which was a big problem for the
represented countries. After the first armed Peace keeping mission was successfully implemented
in the Suez Canal it seemed like that all nations and countries wanted to participate in the next one
as they gained respect. After 1956 and the Suez crisis cooled down the Congo crisis arose in 1960
which was the first large scale mission which included around 20.000 soldiers. (un.org) It was a

Communication And Language Have Evolved Since The Advent
Communication and language have evolved since the advent of the internet, but to what extent?
How does this advancement affect how humans relate to each other and handle conflict? The
internet is relatively new in human history, first developed by the government in the 1960 s to help
backup sensitive files, it was then quickly picked up by universities for databases and
communications like email. All along the internets history, humans have been finding ways to
utilize it to share information and communicate faster. But as the yin and yang would have it, with
all the advantages of the internet, also comes disadvantages. We are able to gain some perspective

I believe that humankind will always struggle with our primitive instinct for violence, and never be
able to shake our propensity towards conflict, and worst of all, war. With the inherent violent nature
of humans coupled with the confusion and misunderstandings created by internet communication,
we are heading down a worse path. I didn t grow up with the internet, so I remember a time in
history when all the conversations with friends were spoken in real time. These days, many
conversations turn into arguments because of miscommunication caused by conversing over the
internet. According to Sherry Turkle, when people are communicating face to face , it is
necessary to keep an air of calmness and respect towards the other person. You have to take your
time and put effort into interacting (Turkle). Nowadays, we are at a disadvantage from the lack of
nuance of texting and social media.
We are shying away from in person, real time conversations due to the habitual use of
technological devices. We only show the world a persona of who we are and what we do through
social media. Author Peggy explains this best when she states, The risk of performance culture, of
the packaged self, is that it erodes the very relationship it purports to create, and alienates us from
our own humanity (253). She further makes her point, evidencing studies taken that measure a
person s empathy levels. These studies show human empathy to be declining (253). Empathy

Would you ever ride a dirt bike. Would you enter in a race and try to beat either other opponents
or friends or family. If so you need speed, power, agility and equipment. You could ride at duns in
the desert or trails and tracks with friends or family, but the biggest thing is trying to find a dirt
bike either online at a shop or a from someone. They have different bikes and many different
prices either new or used. They have honda s, husqvarna s, kawasaki s, ktm s and many more.
The prices are new are around 2,000 8,000 for used dirt bikes are around 500 1,500 either in
stores or from someone. You just have to get a good running dirt bike and good tires and
sprocket . You can ride at tracks down the hill or up in the high desert. In the high desert they
have honda valley and to silverwood dame. At honda valley they have huge jumps that looks like
no one could land it because it shoots you super far which means you have to go fast. Going to

Water Deprivation Of The People Living
Water deprivation of the people living in rural communities is a widely documented occurrence
all over the world. It is estimated that over a billion people across the world do not have access to
safe, clean drinking water (WHO/UNICEF, 2006), even though as a basic human need it is an
essential component of the right to life. Contaminated water endangers both the physical and social
health of all people and it is a disregard to human dignity. In this context, decreasing this number by
half by 2015 was one of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.
Water supply does not possess the merits of a pure public good, as it is usually rivalrous and often
excludable, subject to the nature of supply, in that water can be both private and public good, as
well as somewhere in between. Because of such characteristics, water is not a customary marketable
good and markets can result in its poor allocations, if designed badly. Also, there are robust
enticements to freeride on water infrastructure as it is hard to make the provision of water fully
excludable. The economic characteristics of water both being rival and also provide collective
benefit to all makes it an important good, but complicate how to best provide it (Furlong 2013).
Such market and state failures in water delivery lead to social exclusion and inequity. While
markets can be used to allocate water distribution, strong policy structure and legislation are needed
to ensure that the provision is both equitable

The Election Of A Citizen Of The United States Of America
As a citizen of the United States of America, I am directly affected by every decision that my
representative government makes every day. In past presidential elections, I have not agreed with
some policies that certain Presidents have made, but I have never had the opportunity to have my
voice heard. The number of young voters in our society is horrendous, every year we have less
and less young people from the ages 18 24 that just don t want to vote. Most teens in America just
don t trust the government. This comes from the influence at home, friends, or things they read on

This could take an effect on kids these days saying they don t trust the government just because

voters are not voting in presidential nor mid term elections. These number for mid term elections
are even worse. In 2010 the turnout of people aged 18 to 24 was just 21% (D.K.). I know not
many people participate in mid term elections, but these number for young voters is horrendous.
21 percent of all the population in the U.S. that s awful. I Second, the young people in our
society are not properly taught about politics and how the government works until they are in
college. In high school I was required to take a government course which taught how the
government works and what policies did. It was a very helpful course into how the government
functioned. The people who don t take this course or are well educated in politics don t have a
clue about what going on. One of the problems uneducated voters have is they don t know who
to vote for in the election. All high schools should require kids to take a course in which they are
learning about how the government works or operates. This will educate people more in who to
vote for and which candidates have the same morals as them. This past year, 38 percent of all
young voters from ages 18 24 voted in the 2012 election (Thom File). This is not a mid term

Immigrants As A Better Life For Their Future
All people are diverse and come from many backgrounds. Most people settled here in America as an
immigrant to start a better life for their future generations and for opportunities. Most people came
here with nothing but bringing along their cultures, knowledge, beliefs and behaviors which they
can be shared amongst others in groups and society. In society, starting with the earlier generation
there was always shared culture of classes, although everyone portrays immigrants as the lowest
status. They are always disliked particularly for coming here as an immigrant, even though most of
their backgrounds or their parent s background statuses were very much similar whether they want
to admit it or not. It s how they hold themselves in society. People are divided into different classes
and treated differently. Most immigrants have to settle in, adapting to the American lifestyle,
whether they like it or not, they ll have to blend in and start off with low paying jobs and making
new friends. Adapting to lifestyle, the choice of food and to how they communicate. It is always
harder for immigrants to unite with everyone since people are so strict against immigrants; they
judge them as outcasts by what they eat, what they wear and especially how one communicates.
High culture/elites think they are higher ranking so therefore there is always miscommunication.

The High Cost Of College
Education has always been imperative. Now more than ever, it is the only thing that helps anyone
to advance in today s society. As vital as imparting knowledge can be, it is also expensive. The
average school year cost about $25,000 dollars to attend. Not to mention, the exclusion of room and
board, and school fees, which is much more exorbitant. The thought of even extending free tuition
all through collegeto obtain a Bachelor s degree is brilliant. I personally believe the U.S
Government should fund for this proposal while it s on hand because it can ease both working

Difference Between Peer Server Vs Client Server Network
Client Server network Vs. Peer Peer network.
Key differences between Client Server network and Peer Peer network:
1.Data path: The prominent difference between client to server network and peer to peer
network is that in a client to server network, the designated clients request for services and the
servers provide them (data flows from server to client), but in peer to peer network, peers act as
service providers and service consumers and service providers at the same time (data flows within
peers).
2.Configuration: The Client server network requires a central security database which stores
blocks of shared data as a backup, but the peer peer network does not contain the central security
database as each peer contains its own data.
3.Purpose: The purpose of Client server network is to share ... Show more content on

Predict Sex Is Better Than Postcranial Measurements
predict sex was better than postcranial measurements. Additionally, sexual dimorphic features show
large variation within and between populations (Keen, 1950; AcsГЎdi, and Nemeskeri, 1970;
Workshop of European Anthropologists, 1980; Ubelaker, 1984; Krogman and Д°Еџcan, 1986).
Some sites on the skull have shown a wide range within sexvariation making them less reliable for
sex determination. For example, a projecting nuchal crest is typically associated with a maleskull
but can also appear on a femaleskull, similarly non projecting nuchal crests, typically associated
with a female skull, can also appear on a male skull (Gulekon and Turgut, 2003; Klepinger,
2006). Yet, this and others, are still some of most commonly used sites for sexing. Keen (1950)
expressed that because morphology is often related to size and robustness, determining sex is
extremely difficult unless extreme features are expressed, such as a very small mastoid process
that projects only a small distance for females and a massive mastoid process that projects a
great distance from the inferior margins of the skull for males. Furthermore Meindl et al. (1985)
and Walker (1995) have discussed that the morphology of sites on the skull of both sexes appear
more masculine as the person ages, which would also hinder the accuracy of determining the sex
of skeletal remains. Buikstra and Ubelaker (1994, p.16) also caution that estimation of sex can be
difficult if the observer is not familiar with the overall pattern

Christianity And Christianity
Christianity in Context. In this assignment, there is an opportunity to compare and contrast the
many ways that Christianity and other world religions address different questions. For example,
what is the ultimate purpose or meaning of life?, what can I expect after death, and how can I
prepare for it?, What interaction can I now have with the divine?, to what extent is religion
(including Christianity) a human construct? and How should Christians view other religions in the
light of their own faith?. It is indicated that this paper will be careful to not generalize Christianity
in matters where there is disagreement.
Similarities Between Christianity and Other Religions
There are many major religions of the world that have similarities and differences. Therefore, it is
indicated that there are some similarities when comparing Christianity with other religions. In the

which are Christianity, Islam and Judaism. Therefore, it is indicated that Islam and Christianity
shares similarities of beliefs. For example, they share similar views on judgment, heaven, hell,
spirits, angels, and a future resurrection. Additionally, they share that Jesus is acknowledged and
respected by Muslims as a great prophet. Furthermore, Christianity, Islam, and Judaism all believe

Comparison Between Indian Philosopher Bhart And Western...
Introduction: Here I want to show the comparison between Indian philosopher Bhartб№›hari and
Western philosopher Wittgenstein they deal with language and reality. According to them that
language and reality depend on individual, a person can conceive two types of relationships
internal and external. Actually what we think about it, language and reality are internally related is
to conceive language as necessary means of cognizing any reality. The world can be different than
what we perceive or describe and hence our language and reality are contingently related. One of
the greatest creations of Bhartrihar is about the relationship between wordand sentence. The word is
not arrived at by putting together the meaning of each word that constitutes it. Not does the
sentence as a whole have a meaning which can explain by the real meaning of words. On the other
hand, the meaning of sentence is invisible but may be explained by meaning of the real words that
constitute it. 20th century s most famous philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein famous for his two
treatises namely, Tractatus and Logico Philosopicus and other is Philosophical Investigations. His
Tractatus is best explained as a synthesis of the theory of truth functions and the idea of language is
a picture of reality. For Wittgenstein also, the meaningful unit is not a word but a sentence.
Bhartrihari and wettgenstain say that there is a public component in the meaning of a word; they
speak differently about the presence and the

Laboratory Design Dq
For this task I am analysing why a good laboratory design is important for efficiency and
effectiveness. The main aim of an effective lab design is to create space which reduces the
traffic flow and allows the technicians to move around the lab in a suitable way. Good lab
designs will also improve the environment in the lab. An effective design allows space for
cleaning systems and processes such as ducting. I will have a ducting system coming from the
fume hoods, through the cooling system and out of the laboratory. I will include this here because
it is the shortest possible way of making an exit for the system. Having a tidy and efficient lab

safety and protection for the staff. To make the lab more efficient, I have placed rooms in areas

samples through the lab. If I was to have a poor design, this would make the lab dangerous as
dangerous chemicals could be leaked over other samples and potentially the technicians if they
aren t wearing the appropriate clothing. I have also included an open space area in order to
allow more tasks to be performed, meaning more tasks get completed and is therefore more
efficient. All around my lab I have included fire exits, which further more protects the staff and
gives them a sense of comfort knowing that there is a nearby escape route from wherever they are

The Mantime is captivating and interesting to view. The whole sculptor is made of bronze;

The Republic, By Plato
In Plato s book, The Republic , there are many examples of rhetoric. In regards to the controversial
topic of women and eugenics in which Plato is almost forced into mentioning because of
Adeimantus and Glaucon, he uses various rhetorical statements to portray his view on the matter.
His readers believe women should be equal, so Platoattempts to persuade his readers into thinking
he believes the same. For example, in the passage on women and family Plato states, we shall
assign these to each accordingly; but if the only difference apparent between them is that the female
bears and the malebegets, we shall not admit that this is the difference relevant for our purpose,
but shall still maintain that our male and female Guardians ought to follow the same
occupations (164). He uses the women are equal and can do the same things as men strategy in
order to make Athenian men understand what he is trying to say while still stroking their egos
by using rhetoric. Men are in general are hard to persuade when it comes to power, so as a result
Plato gives a sense of gender equality while at the same time still giving men the upper hand.
Now let us take a look into the background of the story. Plato gives his ideals on a perfect society
and everything it should include. He basically implies that justice is rightness, and rightness is
whatever he feels it should be. He breaks society down into guardians, wage earners, and
auxiliaries. Wage earners are people such as surgeons or

It might not always be practical to deal with all customers queries within the space of a few
hours, but at least email or call them back and let them know you ve received their message and
you ll contact them about it as soon as possible. Even if you re not able to solve a problem right
away, let the customer know you re working on it. 3. Be Friendly and Approachable A fellow
Site Pointer once told me that you can hear a smile through the phone. This is very true. It s very
important to be friendly, courteous and to make your clients feel like you re their friend and
you re there to help them out. There will be times when you want to beat your clients over the
head repeatedly with a blunt object it happens to all of us. It s vital that you keep a clear head,
respond to your clients wishes as best you can, and at all times remain polite and courteous. 4.
Have a Clearly Defined Customer Service Policy This may not be too important when you re
just starting out, but a clearly defined customer service policy is going to save you a lot of time
and effort in the long run. If a customer has a problem, what should they do? If the first option
doesn t work, then what? Should they contact different people for billing and technical enquiries?
If they re not satisfied with any aspect of your customer service, who should they tell? There s
nothing more annoying for a client than being passed from person to person, or not

Information System Based On Data Mining Techniques
Aims, objectives and possible outcomes The key aim of this project is to develop an information
system based on data mining techniques to build upon existing customer relationships and
increase profit. Part Parcel Computers has been at the forefront of the computer parts industry for
the past fifteen years. They have developed a reputation for the cheapest computer parts by
focussing on a cost leadership strategy. P P computers have a loyalty card programme that
provides discounts and benefits to its customers but has not used this collected data to specifically
identify and target its loyal customers. Unless P P computers build sales volume with the data, it is
merely an overhead without any tangible benefit (Cox, 2012). The objective... Show more content

Ultimately, P P computers can gain a competitive advantage through understanding the desires and
needs of their loyal customer base. Furthermore, this project will also use association rules within
customer segments to predict what items are most likely to be purchased together thus informing
future business decisions. Background: Loyalty programmes have rapidly proliferated in almost
all consumer focussed industries. In the United States alone, explicit opt in programme
memberships topped 2.6 billion in 2012 (IIDA, 2014). The vast amount of transactional and
demographic data gathered from loyalty programmes has been used by many organisations to
drive business decisions. The use of supervised and unsupervised learning has been used to gather
different information about customer desires, trends and loyalty. There are two primary modelling
approaches, they are recency, frequency and monetary (RFM) model and the customer life value
model (CLV). The RFM model focusses on three key metrics; how recently a customer has
purchased, how often they purchase and how much money they spend. On the other hand, the CLV
model attempts to predict the amount of money a customer will spend with the company from
present day till the time the business relationship is terminated. Gupta et al (2006) indicate that the
main limitation to RFM models is that they use a scoring system and do not provide a specific
dollar value. However, there are successful cases where an RFM model was

Benefits Of A Laptop Or A Desktop Computer
As you are reading this essay, you are most definitely using a piece of technology whether a
laptop or a desktop computer. As we can see in our society, technology is booming in our
industry. Every year, technology scientists discover new amazing features that later get implanted
into our daily used electronics. These days, one of the most known technology companies like
Microsoft and Apple, compete with each other to release what s best for their customers
especially in computers. Apple and Microsoft might be both manufactures and sellers of similar
functional computers but, there are many differences in the way their operating systems attract
different people with different style. From the different structure of coding, to the same purpose
of creating a type of style people feel most comfortable of using. Having a different mechanical
structure and it s components but, with the same functionality it produces. Lastly, getting use to
these operating systems on these machines both take time but, which options they provide will
depend who s the buyer. Just as you cannot judge a book by its cover, you cannot do the same
when it comes to a computer. Both, Apple and Microsoft, have their very own separate operating
windows. For Apple it is Mac for short. For Microsoft, it is called Windows. Both provide the
same function, the ability to give commands and operate a computer. The difference between these
two is that Mac is much known for its great coded scripts in its operating

Three Types Of Muscle Tissue
The Muscular System
Types of Muscle Tissue
The muscular system is the network that converts energy into motion. Since muscles are essential
to all animals they are incredibly complex. Muscles are able to self heal and with practice, are able
to grow substantially stronger. There are 3 types of muscle tissue found in the human body:
Skeletal Muscle: attached to bones and in most cases are responsible for voluntary movements
Smooth Muscle: responsible for involuntary free flow in vessels and intestines and contain one
nucleus
Cardiac Muscle: involuntary muscle that is similar to smooth muscle and only found in the heart
Each type of muscle has a different structure and plays a different role in the body.
Skeletal Muscles
Skeletal muscles are usually attached to bones and are responsible for voluntary movements
(dancing, shooting a basketball, etc.). Skeletal muscles have light and dark sequential bands that are
called striations striated muscle is another name for skeletal muscle. Most skeletal muscles are

Therefore, impulses from motor neurons control the contraction of skeletal muscle fibres.
Neuromuscular junction is the point of contact between a motor neuron and a skeletal muscle cell.
Vesicles located in the axon terminals of the neuron release a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine.
The acetylcholine diffuses across the synapse, producing an impulse in the cell membrane of the
muscular fibre. As a result of the impulse, calcium ions are released within the fibre. These calcium
ions enable the interaction between actin and myosin filaments. Finally when the release of
acetylcholine stops, the muscle cells relax from contraction. An enzyme is produced at the axon
terminal which eradicates any remaining acetylcholine. The cell then pumps the calcium ions back
into storage and the cross bridges stop forming as contraction

How To Establish A Public Hospital
Establishing a public hospital has many advantages such as tax exemption from income and
property taxes, but public oversight may be a hindrance seen as a disadvantage. Commissioner
Green s idea of hiring her nephew does not seem like a smart business idea especially if the council
does not know his healthcare administration or finance experience to run the operation and
development of a new public hospital. Even though there is a great deal of public oversight, an
experienced hospital administrator, who possesses both healthcare and finance knowledge, is
needed to run a successful healthcare facility. In the development of a for profit corporation, there
are many considerations to account for when planning this type of healthcare facility.

Impact on Unemployment on Standard of Living
If unemployment rises in a country, will its standard of living necessarily decline?
Unemployment refers to the condition and extent of joblessness within an economy, and is
measured in terms of the unemployment rate, which is the number of unemployed workers
divided by the total civilian labor force. If unemployment rises in a country it will affect the
country s standard of living in a negative way, take Jamaican economy for example,
approximately 65% of the labour is unemployed, so if 65% of the population is not earning an
income /income is not being generated then there is going to be a fall out in the economy which
will result in recession and also the GDP will decline. If unemployment continues to increase the

Frictional unemployment are individuals that are temporarily unemployed while transiting between
jobs or just entering the labour market. This kind is typically short in duration but always present in
a market economy. Structural Unemployment whenever an economy undergoes basic structural
changes there is the possibility of some part of the labor force being thrown out of employment. The
long term process of economic development and growth gives rise to variety of structural changes.
Considerable changes in productive activity from traditional agriculture to modern industry;
transformation of rural sectors into urban units; replacement of small scale and cottage industries
by large scale manufacturing units; introduction of electricity or other sources of commercial
energy in place of manual and animal power are some examples of structural changes. The economy
under the process of structural changes is in the condition of transition. Some workers are likely to
become jobless during the process of transition. Moreover, the duration of such unemployment may
also be fairly long depending upon the extent of corrective and restorative measures introduced to
restrict the period of unemployment. What are the policies which a government may adopt to
reduce unemplyment Increased Government Expenditure The Government can raise the level of its
own spending. This fiscal pump priming directly increases aggregate demand and can have a

Identifying A Cluster Of Media Communication
Examining a cluster of media communication in order to review common and unique approaches
that the marketing industry utilizes was not something that crossed my mind to ever do. The task
was not as easy as I expected when explained in class; but, it was interesting and seeing as though I
have learned over the years through my other classes that the average American spends somewhere
near 8 hours of their day watching television, the marketing industry has a big advantage using
commercials to attract their viewers and manipulate them into purchasing and using or consuming
the product they are delivering to them through the television screen. For this assignment, I tuned
into TBS where an episodeof Friends was finishing up and an episode... Show more content on

Of all the commercials I saw, they were all geared towards young adults and older. From Ink Joy
pen commercials to a Realtor.com commercial with Pepsi, Pizza Hut, and Reds Ale in between,
these commercials seem to be heavily concentrated on adults, the activities they take part in, and the
resources they will need for future endeavors. I was unable to document a significant difference in
the types of commercials shown during these programs in order to have much of a comparison, but
there was enough alike about them to dissect them and really figure out the methods which
broadcasting companies use in order to attract their buyers and consumers. For every television
channel I have ever watched throughout my life the commercials have always been significantly
louder than the actual show I am viewing; not just for these two channels, but I did notice it more
when actually having to pay attention. Why does this annoying thing constantly happen every
channel I choose to watch? The answer to this question: marketing purposes. It is in the companies
best interest on becoming successful with the product they are attempting to sell by turning the
volume up on their commercials louder than the actual television show because it attracts the
viewers and manipulates them in to paying attention to them. People are not watching television
shows to see the commercials; maybe some people on

Scott Sanders Men
In Scott Russell Sanders essay The Men We Carry in Our Minds, the author attempts to rectify his
lack of guilt for the historical societal oppression of women through an exploration of his childhood
growing up in poor backcountry towns. He argues that the men in his life were so acutely
unprivileged that they were effectively equal to women in their disadvantages. The essay brings an
interesting argument to the discussion of privilege, but ultimately falls short as an argumentative
piece. Sanders, eager to disassociate himself from his genderdespite still enjoying the privileges his
gender allows him, relies too heavily on establishing and exploring a series of primitive
dichotomies that simplify what should be a a more complex argument,... Show more content on

These women feel as though men were guilty of having kept all the joys and privileges of the
earth for themselves (796). Sanders does not understand from his perspective, the only privileges
men have are laboring themselves to an early and miserable death, or the privilege of killing and
being killed in war. In his childhood, it appeared to him that women had all the privilege; the
women he knew stayed home, read books, ran errands in town. Sanders acknowledges that that his
vision is not entirely correct, that women have been oppressed for many years and their grievances
with his gender are valid. But he does not exactly retract his argument he instead introduces his last
dichotomy, and with it his final and most nuanced point: that when the women at his college
thought of male privilege, they did not think of the men he grew up with, but rather men with
money. They thought of lawyers, bankers, and stockbrokers; not the poor who grew up in dirt poor
farm country, in mining country, in black ghettos, in Hispanic barrios, in the shadow of factories, in
Third World nations (797). In closing, Sanders places himself on what he calls the side of women,
identifying himself an ally and an equal to them. Sanders essay is organized around making the
aforementioned distinctions: men and women, toilers and warriors, rich and poor. It s an innate
human tendency to want to label the things we see and experience. Separating and labeling our
world helps us in making important decisions, organizing our thoughts, and interacting with our
environment. Sanders labels, although important for constructing a clear argument, are
problematic. They are not completely incorrect, but they should be seen as a tool for discussion
alone, and not as the ultimate truth about our

Consciousness In The German Ideology
Before one is able to consider this quote, the concept of materialism and consciousness must be
dissected. According to Marx, materialism is not only the way people s beliefs are conditioned by
material activities, but also the fact that people s ideologies are conditioned by history and the
powers of production. Consciousness plays a large role in his definition of materialism, because
they are inherently connected. For example, The production of ideas, of conceptions, of
consciousness is directly interwoven with the material activity and the material relationships of
men; it is the language of actual life (Marx, 111). Marx also defines consciousness as an economic
process; in other words, economic determinism defines consciousness and even history itself. This
differs greatly from Hegel s idea that consciousness is a process called the dialectic, which includes
distinguishing between thesis and antithesis in order to come to a conclusion. Although Marx
utilizes the dialectic to analyze materialism and consciousness in The German Ideology, he goes
even further than Hegel and uses this dialectic thinking to challenge Hegel s own concepts. It is
important to understand the concept that the process of thinking is actually a reflection of the
external world through consciousness, because then one can connect the idea that it is more of a
relationship than an externalized object. Marx explains this notion when he states, In the social
production of their existence, men

Two Eyed Seeing
There are many ways one can see and understand the world. The way that the school system
authorized us to see and understand the world is through a western perspective. However, there
is another perspective that we should all see and understand the world as since we live on the
unceded territories; we should all see the world an Indigenous perspective too. This concept of
two eyed seeing is introduced by Mi kmaw Elders Albert and Murdena Marshall from Eskasoni, a
First Nation in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia (Martin, D. 2012, p. 31). The concept is specifically
introduced and applied to research in science. However, I believe that this concept can be applied
to life in general and in the classroom environment.

They are hiding the history of assimilation of Indigenous people in residential schools. By
continuing to teach with the western perspective, it is continuing to assimilate Indigenous
people. In B.C. s school system, there are over 60,000 students who self identify as being of
Aboriginal (First Nations, MГ©tis or Inuit) ancestry. (Province of British Columbia, 2017). Those
60,000 self identifying Aboriginal students are sitting in a school where they may be
misrecognized with stereotypes and are forced to learn the western perspective while possibly
learning an indigenous perspective at home. The B.C government states that Aboriginal Education
seeks to: improve the success of Aboriginal students, support all students learning about
Aboriginal peoples and help teachers in their efforts to bring Aboriginal knowledge into their
teaching practice. When thinking about this two eyed seeing, it reminded me of the story Edwina
Left Behind by Sören Wuerth. Edwina, a Native senior who was trying to pass the state s High
School Graduation Qualifying Exam to receive a diploma had failed because of the cultural
ignorance of standardized test. This is the reality of seeing through one eye. She did everything she
could to learn the western, standardized test yet she still failed. If the standardized test was tweaked
a little and included another perspective aside from the western perspective;

China s World s Elite Currency
Chinese Ren Min Bi has become one of the world s elite currency. On Monday, November 31,
2015, The International Monetary Fund has approved China s yuan into its elite reserve currency.
As this decision announced, it will impact China s economy. This new policy will help pave the
way for broader use of the renminbi in trade and finance, securing China s standing as a global
economic power, just like four other currencies the US dollar, the European euro, the English pound
and the Japanese yen.

Firstly, the dominance of the US dollar as an international currency to be more reduced. Chinese
government believes that the positive effect will be felt by the country s currency if the yuan
becomes number one in the world, one of which is able to weaken the hegemony of the US dollar
as global reserve currency. It also increases the importance of China in global financial markets.
The impact could be felt at least in the near future, in the third quarter of 2016. In Indonesia, on
the last few years, people can put their assets in bank by using US Dollar, but in the next few
year, it cannot be denied if people can put Ren Min Bi as their assets, because Ren Min Bi
exchange rate is cheaper and friendly than US Dollar.
Secondly, the demand for renminbi asssets could be increased. The inclusion of the yuan also
potentially provide a shift in asset demand for renminbi, it is predicted will take place in the short
term in the capital market. However, the inclusion of the Ren Min Bi as a global reserve currency
that could have a significant impact on profit credit.
Moreover, Indonesia will be dependence on declining US dollar. The positive impact of reducing
Indonesia s dependence on the US dollar, if the bilateral swap effectively and cost of fund in
market. Then it will give a tremendous impact of changes in economic conditions that exist in
Indonesia later. So, Indonesia will be able

Ethnography Summary
After watching the video I realized how much of an impact English speakers have on an English
dictionary. I enjoyed the video and I think that the speaker explained her information about
adding words to the dictionary well. I try to restrict my acronyms and slang usage unless I m

whatever is in the dictionary are the only words that I should use. I m sure I heard a teacher say
once (or more) that you cannot make up words or that s not a real word. In my opinion, I think that

  • 2. Drinking Alcoholic Beverages DRINKING ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES An alcoholic beverage is a drink containing ethanol, commonly known as alcohol. Alcoholic beverages are divided into three general classes: beers, wines, and spirits (or distilled beverage). They are legally consumed in most countries, and over 100 countries have laws regulating their production, sale, and consumption.[1] In particular, such laws specify the minimum age at which a person may legally buy or drink them. This minimum age varies between 16 and 25 years, depending upon the country and the type of drink. Most nations set it at 18 years of age.[1] The production and consumption of alcohol occurs in most cultures of the world, from hunter gatherer peoples to nation states.[2][3] Alcoholic beverages ... However, there are some controversies regarding this definition mainly because the large number of chemical substances reported in chemistry literature need to be indexed. Isomerism caused much consternation to early researchers, since isomers have exact the same composition, but differ in configuration (arrangement) of the atoms. For example, there was much speculation for the chemical identity of benzene, until the correct structure was described by Friedrich August KekulГ©. Likewise, the idea of stereoisomerism that atoms have rigid three dimensional structure and can thus form isomers that differ only in their three dimensional arrangement was another crucial step in understanding the concept of distinct chemical substances. For example, tartaric acid has three distinct isomers, a pair of diastereomers with one diastereomer forming two enantiomers. chemical is a form of matter that has constant chemical composition and characteristic properties.[1] It cannot be separated into components by physical separation ... • 3. Art And Art What is Art? Art is the aesthetic experiences we encounter when we are exposed to new responses of sight, hearing, taste, touch and smell (McGraw 2013). According to McGraw no society has lived without some form of art in human history. (2013) We have the ability to create images that have evolved and find a new relationship with each one. Art is composed of meaningfulness in every aspect, from the artist perspective. The symbolism of art changes from era to era. Art is created by individuals who have acquired traits of; sensitivity, flexibility, originality, playfulness, productivity, fluency, analytical and organizational skills (McGraw 2013). We will later elaborate on these traits individually through pieces of art. The shift of cultures has impacted the trait of art, through eras of history, which impact artist mindset and modern culture. The meaning of Art to me personally is something that you should have a connection with and or understanding of what the artist is talking about by looking at the painting or drawing. The quality, production, expression, or realm, according to aesthetic principles, of what is beautiful, appealing, or of more than ordinary . (dictionary) Referring to our textbook Living with Art refers to as Art being simplified, fragmented and distorted. With that being said Art is needed to be natural and stylized in it s own unique way. In Art there are eras that had started in the BC s, just like stone age had started in 30,000 BC through ... • 4. Compare And Contrast Tocqueville And Crevecoeur People in Great Britain wanted to escape the aristocracy and establish freedom for themselves and their families. The writings of Alexis de Tocqueville, in Democracy in America, and J. Hector St. John Crevecoeur s, Letter from an American Farmer, helped catapult the idea of America being this new land of the brave and free. According to Tocqueville, American became a place where the Puritans found freedom for themselves. The Puritans really pushed for democracy and equality in this new land as a vast dichotomy of what they escaped in Britain. America being a place of democracy that was not dependent upon a royal family and aristocracy for ruling was a source of pride for the people and made America unique. Additionally, the idea of its people having power, rights, and a constitution to protect that supported the idea of equality and liberty. Crevecoeur stated, He persecutes nobody, and nobody persecutes him, he visits his neighbors, and his neighbors visit him. There is the idea that in America one can be themselves and everyone has the same basic human rights. Crevecoeur s writing differed from Tocqueville in the accuracy of America at the time and how accessible the American Dream actually was for all of the people living in America. The writings of Tocqueville and Crevecoeur highlight these great accomplishments by Americans and shifts the narrative of America being run by natives and British immigrants to American being run by Americans. Alexis de Tocqueville , in Democracy in America, initiated a trend in American studies by examining the shift from aristocracy to democracy. This new world run by the people and not by kings was fascinating at the time and very different, thus making America unique. Democracy was especially a source of pride in America because it actually worked unlike in other places, like France. Tocqueville states, The government democracy brings the notion of political rights to the level of the humblest citizens, just as the dissemination of wealth brings the notion of property within the reach of all the members of the community; and I confess that, to my mind, this is one of its greatest advantages. This became a catalyst for a shift in American studies because essentially ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. “Religion was more important than politics in the failure... Religion was more important than politics in the failure of King and Parliament to reach a settlement. 1646 1649 , Assess the validity of this statement. In January 1649, King Charles I was executed after being charged with high treason due to political and religious reasons, some of which contributed to his refusal in accepting the peace settlements given to him by Parliament. Charles refusal to compromise was supported by the division that had emerged within Parliament on how to fight the civil war between the Political Presbyterians and Political Independents. The main factors of the failure to reach a settlement were religion, politics, Charles intransigence, the New Model Army and the emergence of radical ideas; all of which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Still Ireton spoke for the grandees which did include Cromwell and insisted that the franchise should be restricted to those with a permanent fixed interest in the kingdom as Seel 2 says, and that the vote should go to those who possessed property or there would otherwise be a disturbance to a good constitution of the kingdom . This was seen as important because the views of the religious radicals made settlements more difficult and furthermore increased the tension of division among those in the army and in parliament. The politicisation of the New Model Army also played a significant role in the failure to reach a settlement in the years 1646 to 1649 between Charles and Parliament. What made the army politicised was the concerns of their wages of ВЈ3 million in arrears and the possibility of being faced with the charges of committing offences from the First Civil War, as Parliament had not passed an indemnity act. The army presented Charles with the Heads of The Proposals in 1647, which links back to religious division in parliament, , under Cromwell and Ireton s influence, putting forward more stricter terms such as religious toleration was to be more effective to a wider degree and that the army was to be controlled by parliament for only ten years instead of twenty, making the army seem like a ... In Cold Blood Perry Quotes In the book In Cold Blood by Truman Capote, one of the two killers, Perry Smith, is presented to be an emotional villain whose actions towards others reflects the way society has treated him. The traumatic and broken childhood that Perry endured did not only leave him untrusting of others but was a gateway to the dramatic and unpleasant life that Perry lived. Not only shown through his criminal actions, but every aspect of Perry s life is negatively marked by his experiences, illustrating the trainwreck that his life turned out to be. Perry s complicated feelings towards society is shown through his treatment of the Clutters during the home invasion. Perry s erratic treatment of the family, showing both kindness and ruthless violence, puzzles the detectives on the case. When confronted by Dick he made his opinion known and was even willing to get in a fight if the argument got out of hand. While Dick and Perry are on the run, they are very cautious about who to trust. Put them out. But I ll be getting out, too (Capote 209). When confronted by Dick he not only argues on their behalf but threatens to leave if he does not have his way. After heartlessly killing four people, Perry is willing to risk his only partnership for these strangers. Once again, Perry s unexpected compassion juxtaposes the harsh and cruel life that he lives. This is again demonstrated when Perry intervenes when Dick begins to make advances on Nancy. Basically this position required me to work in a formal apprenticeship, and I was trained and became familiarized with all the important particulars of this job. What my trainers made very clear to me is the importance of workers in the natural gas industry having a deep understanding of all the implications relating to safety. I am one of those quality employees. I feel fortunate to have this position, and moreover, I have conducted research into the industry giving particular attention to the specifics of my own job, duties and responsibilities and I present that information through this report. Learning well, following directions, and being competent are things my family taught me, and I do believe I am well suited for my position and will be able to climb the ladder and be given more responsibility as time goes by and my supervisors become confident in my aptitude and my work ethic. • 9. Demeter Vs. The Herdsman And The Weaver In mythology, there are many stories, tales, or myths that have many things in common. Along with these similarities, are differences. Just like other myths that we have read, the myths Demeter and The Herdsman and the Weaver contain many similar characters, plot, and possibly setting. Both myths have a similar character and a plot; a king and two people who care deeply for each other but are seperated. In the first myth Demeter, Hades (the king of the underworld) stole Persephone (the daughter of Demeter) away from her mother (Demeter), who was the goddess of grains and fruit. Hades took Persephone to the underworld because he wanted her as his bride and thought she would brighten up his life. Demeter became very depressed and along with her happiness, the world started to die. Similar to the first myth, in The Herdsman and the Weaver there was also a king. The king decided to find his lovely daughter, the greatest weaver in the world, a husband. He discovered a herdsman who he thought would make a fine husband. After the young couple was married, they started to spend all their time together frolicking in the fields. The king warned them not to abandon their talent and work but they did not listen, so the king decided to punish them. The king made the herdsman live in the Eastern sky and his daughter in the western sky. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 10. Isolation In Richard Bone By Mr. Bone In Richard Bone , Mr. Bone describes a self imposed emotional isolation. He is new to Spoon River and finds work carving tombstones; consequently, he does not know the citizens well enough to know if they speak the truth or are making a last effort to glorify their deceased loved ones. In lines 8 9 Bone discloses, And I chiseled for them whatever they wished, / All in ignorance of its truth. Initially, he is emotionally isolated; however, Mr. Bone chooses to venture out of his comfort zone and into the community where he learns the truths and complexities that compose the citizens of Spoon River. This leads one to assume that when he found himself unhappy with his seclusion he sought to change his situation, a worthwhile decision. As he lives among them he becomes privy to the truthfulness of the epitaphs, but continues to carve the false eulogies although one can infer that Bone does this partially to keep his standing in the community, as not to return to his state of isolation.... • 11. Voodoo Science Research Paper Short Essay On Voodoo Science FREEZING WATER IN PLASTIC BOTTLES RELEASES HARMFUL CHEMICALS An element of voodoo science is introduced with this topic, as we are going to explore how freezing water in plastic bottles may or may not release harmful chemicals. In reality, we are subjecting ourselves to the possibly fallible and unverified claims of the experts, and of other people from the public when we decide to blindly listen to anything that seems even slightly credible. That is the point of the science being voodoo, they are able to control one s actions by coming up with any variety of claim that can encourage or discourage them from implementing certain behaviors in their lives (Lamb, 2003). One of those infamous claims will be explored here The first step in determining what kind of science this is, is asking the two questions about the subject: Is it supported by reliable/reproducible observations? Can it be explained in terms of a rational model? Generational Differences Between Baby Boomers and Millennials and The Impacts on HR Kimberly Senkler September 14, 2010 Human Resource Management BA 421 KP Normally we tend to think of diversity in relation to age, race, gender and religion. Sounds simple enough, but Swami does not mention how this testing affects the animals or why this is such a controversial issue among the public. M.J. Prescott, from the National Center for the Replacement, Refinement and Reduction of Animal Research, makes a very good point when he says that: Many people, including from within the scientific community, consider that the use of NHPs [nonhuman primates] in research is a matter of particular ethical concern because certain features NHPs share with ... Are we, human beings, morally justified in causing animals pain, suffering, distress and/or lasting harm in research aimed at alleviating or preventing human suffering, or furthering scientific knowledge? (Prescott, 12) Some people might answer this question by saying that it depends on what kind of research is being done. Others might say that the use of animals for human benefit is morally unacceptable. Prescott makes another great point about the use of any animal for medical research when he says, ...it is difficult for us, as human beings, to judge capacities for suffering in, or to empathize with, species who are evolutionarily different from us... (15). This answers his previously posed question about whether or not humans are justified to cause pain to animals by saying that humans cannot accurately judge how much pain an animal is in that is being used for medical research. When it comes to the use of NHPs and how they are treated after being used for medical research, the majority of NHPs used in experiments are euthanized, either because their tissues are required as part of the experiment or on compassionate grounds to alleviate unnecessary suffering (Prescott, 15). This seems humane enough, but the animals being used would not normally have gone through these medically induced situations in the wild, so their death would be premature when compared to NHPs that live in the wild. Public schooling supplied factories with a skilled labor force, and provided basic literacy to the masses, and it was the educationthat the vast majority of the population received. The overall implementation of our current schoolsystem credits itself to educational reformer Horace Mann, known as the father of American public schooling. Our schools are, in a sense, factories in which the raw products (children) are to be shaped and fashioned into products to meet the various demands of life. (Cubberley, 1917). Building upon the depersonalized monotony and rigorous hierarchy of the Prussian system, they formed an industrial education model devised to mass produce millions of workers for America s factories. These theorists believed that most of America s students were destined for a life of menial, industrial labor. China has a goal to urbanize very quickly that the cities do not think about planning on proper waste dumping and helping the environment. The mast movement of urbanization will affect the farmers greatly because they rely on the environment to be clean and using the sun to help grown their crops. The World Bank study offered advice to China that building dense cities will be more efficient so the people in China could avoid larger risk of pollution from long commutes traveling and high energy consumption. Many of the employment issues within the emergency services have been due to the increase in members of the emergency services pushing back on the old cultural practices of the agencies or governments who govern the emergency service agencies. It is evident that in some incidents that the politics and old traditional cultures have made issues of diversity, leadership issues and equal rights issues. Krakauer gives us insight by giving examples of what risk really are, how people take them, and how it actually affects those people. Throughout the whole book, there are instances where Krakauer uses real life examples of things that have happened where people have taken risks and the outcomes of that. I didn t grow up with the internet, so I remember a time in history when all the conversations with friends were spoken in real time. It is estimated that over a billion people across the world do not have access to safe, clean drinking water (WHO/UNICEF, 2006), even though as a basic human need it is an essential component of the right to life. Contaminated water endangers both the physical and social health of all people and it is a disregard to human dignity. In this context, decreasing this number by half by 2015 was one of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals. Water supply does not possess the merits of a pure public good, as it is usually rivalrous and often excludable, subject to the nature of supply, in that water can be both private and public good, as well as somewhere in between. Because of such characteristics, water is not a customary marketable good and markets can result in its poor allocations, if designed badly. Also, there are robust enticements to freeride on water infrastructure as it is hard to make the provision of water fully excludable. The economic characteristics of water both being rival and also provide collective benefit to all makes it an important good, but complicate how to best provide it (Furlong 2013). Such market and state failures in water delivery lead to social exclusion and inequity. Additionally, sexual dimorphic features show large variation within and between populations (Keen, 1950; AcsГЎdi, and Nemeskeri, 1970; Workshop of European Anthropologists, 1980; Ubelaker, 1984; Krogman and Д°Еџcan, 1986). Some sites on the skull have shown a wide range within sexvariation making them less reliable for sex determination. For example, a projecting nuchal crest is typically associated with a maleskull but can also appear on a femaleskull, similarly non projecting nuchal crests, typically associated with a female skull, can also appear on a male skull (Gulekon and Turgut, 2003; Klepinger, 2006). Yet, this and others, are still some of most commonly used sites for sexing. Keen (1950) expressed that because morphology is often related to size and robustness, determining sex is extremely difficult unless extreme features are expressed, such as a very small mastoid process that projects only a small distance for females and a massive mastoid process that projects a great distance from the inferior margins of the skull for males. Furthermore Meindl et al. (1985) and Walker (1995) have discussed that the morphology of sites on the skull of both sexes appear more masculine as the person ages, which would also hinder the accuracy of determining the sex of skeletal remains. Buikstra and Ubelaker (1994, p.16) also caution that estimation of sex can be difficult if the observer is not familiar with the overall pattern ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Christianity And Christianity Christianity in Context. In this assignment, there is an opportunity to compare and contrast the many ways that Christianity and other world religions address different questions. For example, what is the ultimate purpose or meaning of life?, what can I expect after death, and how can I prepare for it?, What interaction can I now have with the divine?, to what extent is religion (including Christianity) a human construct? and How should Christians view other religions in the light of their own faith?. It is indicated that this paper will be careful to not generalize Christianity in matters where there is disagreement. Similarities Between Christianity and Other Religions There are many major religions of the world that have similarities and differences. Therefore, it is indicated that there are some similarities when comparing Christianity with other religions. In the paper, there will be a great discussion on the differences and similarities between the three faiths which are Christianity, Islam and Judaism. • 34. Comparison Between Indian Philosopher Bhart And Western... Introduction: Here I want to show the comparison between Indian philosopher Bhartб№›hari and Western philosopher Wittgenstein they deal with language and reality. According to them that language and reality depend on individual, a person can conceive two types of relationships internal and external. Actually what we think about it, language and reality are internally related is to conceive language as necessary means of cognizing any reality. The world can be different than what we perceive or describe and hence our language and reality are contingently related. One of the greatest creations of Bhartrihar is about the relationship between wordand sentence. The word is not arrived at by putting together the meaning of each word that constitutes it. Not does the sentence as a whole have a meaning which can explain by the real meaning of words. On the other hand, the meaning of sentence is invisible but may be explained by meaning of the real words that constitute it. 20th century s most famous philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein famous for his two treatises namely, Tractatus and Logico Philosopicus and other is Philosophical Investigations. His Tractatus is best explained as a synthesis of the theory of truth functions and the idea of language is a picture of reality. For Wittgenstein also, the meaningful unit is not a word but a sentence. The main aim of an effective lab design is to create space which reduces the traffic flow and allows the technicians to move around the lab in a suitable way. I will have a ducting system coming from the fume hoods, through the cooling system and out of the laboratory. In regards to the controversial topic of women and eugenics in which Plato is almost forced into mentioning because of Adeimantus and Glaucon, he uses various rhetorical statements to portray his view on the matter. His readers believe women should be equal, so Platoattempts to persuade his readers into thinking he believes the same. For example, in the passage on women and family Plato states, we shall assign these to each accordingly; but if the only difference apparent between them is that the female bears and the malebegets, we shall not admit that this is the difference relevant for our purpose, but shall still maintain that our male and female Guardians ought to follow the same occupations (164). He uses the women are equal and can do the same things as men strategy in order to make Athenian men understand what he is trying to say while still stroking their egos by using rhetoric. Men are in general are hard to persuade when it comes to power, so as a result Plato gives a sense of gender equality while at the same time still giving men the upper hand. Now let us take a look into the background of the story. Plato gives his ideals on a perfect society and everything it should include. He argues that the men in his life were so acutely unprivileged that they were effectively equal to women in their disadvantages. The essay brings an interesting argument to the discussion of privilege, but ultimately falls short as an argumentative piece. Sanders does not understand from his perspective, the only privileges men have are laboring themselves to an early and miserable death, or the privilege of killing and being killed in war. In his childhood, it appeared to him that women had all the privilege; the women he knew stayed home, read books, ran errands in town. Sanders acknowledges that that his vision is not entirely correct, that women have been oppressed for many years and their grievances with his gender are valid. But he does not exactly retract his argument he instead introduces his last dichotomy, and with it his final and most nuanced point: that when the women at his college thought of male privilege, they did not think of the men he grew up with, but rather men with money. They thought of lawyers, bankers, and stockbrokers; not the poor who grew up in dirt poor farm country, in mining country, in black ghettos, in Hispanic barrios, in the shadow of factories, in Third World nations (797). In closing, Sanders places himself on what he calls the side of women, identifying himself an ally and an equal to them. It s an innate human tendency to want to label the things we see and experience. Separating and labeling our world helps us in making important decisions, organizing our thoughts, and interacting with our environment. • 51. Consciousness In The German Ideology Before one is able to consider this quote, the concept of materialism and consciousness must be dissected. According to Marx, materialism is not only the way people s beliefs are conditioned by material activities, but also the fact that people s ideologies are conditioned by history and the powers of production. Consciousness plays a large role in his definition of materialism, because they are inherently connected. For example, The production of ideas, of conceptions, of consciousness is directly interwoven with the material activity and the material relationships of men; it is the language of actual life (Marx, 111). Marx also defines consciousness as an economic process; in other words, economic determinism defines consciousness and even history itself. This differs greatly from Hegel s idea that consciousness is a process called the dialectic, which includes distinguishing between thesis and antithesis in order to come to a conclusion. Although Marx utilizes the dialectic to analyze materialism and consciousness in The German Ideology, he goes even further than Hegel and uses this dialectic thinking to challenge Hegel s own concepts. It is important to understand the concept that the process of thinking is actually a reflection of the external world through consciousness, because then one can connect the idea that it is more of a relationship than an externalized object.
