The Impact Of Reality Television And Its Impact On Society
Reality television is an addicting phenomenon that graces millions of televisions daily. From
shows like Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Life of Kylie, and Love and Hip Hop to series like
My Strange Addiction, Hoarders, and My 600 lb Life, reality TV has left its mark and impacted
today s society in more ways than one. It has slithered into mass media to dominate lives and focus
on real events or situations that have long term effects on its viewers. This brand of television
serves as a reflection of society and often exploits its participants if not glamorizes a certain
lifestyle that may seem unattainable to its viewers. For example, the Kardashians represent success
and the achievement of the American dream that, to many, is elusive. Through the dramatization of
mental illness, Hoarders exploits its viewers and reinforces the perception of these people as
outsiders which lead to further marginalization and hiding of hoarding behavior. Shows that look
down on and criticize certain lifestyles, such as Hoarders, function as a cautionary story and is put
out to the public as a warning of how not to live. Lifestyle themed programs are also connected to
broader campaigns, orchestrated by private and public partners to promote desired behaviors such
as delayed parenting and healthy eating (Oullette). With this program, A E tends to sensationalize
these people and sends the message to its audience that this behavior is monstrous and should be
avoided at all costs. A E chooses to dramatize the manifestation of hoarding as opposed to using the
platform to get to the root of hoarding for both the viewers and the hoarders themselves. Although
some episodes are less offensive than others, Hoarders exploits its subjects and interferes with the
viewer s potential for empathy. The ordinary celebrity promised by television, and the incitement to
perform the real for ratings, accentuates these possibilities and constraints, and raises important
questions about whether ordinary people are empowered or exploited through nonfiction and reality
programming (Oullette). Instead of encouraging proper treatment it presents hoarding as something
that is impossible to relate to and rather than sympathize, viewers are

Data And Data Analysis Paper
The world is converging toward a critical point in history where the question has to be asked, will
there be enough resources to go around? Populations around the globe are growing and moving
out of poverty towards the consumption based lifestyles of western countries. This means more
is needed, more oil, more water, and more food. These resources are finite, limited, and often
wasted. Through the use of technology and data, these resources can be better utilized. Data and
data analysis will allow these systems to be optimized to produce more and waste less. The goal
of this project is to use data and apply it to the field of plant growth and agriculture. The Internet of
Things (IoT) is a data driven technology that seeks to integrate and connect everyday devices and
sensors. This data infrastructure can be used for a variety of applications such as home automation,
industrial manufacturing, healthcare, and smart agriculture. Although each application is derived
from a significantly different field, the underlying communication protocols are very similar and
must adhere to similar constraints. The constraints of low power devices, lossy links, noisy
environments, and embedded microcontrollers with limited memory and processing power. These
protocols are the basis of the IoT protocol stack. They create the framework that determines how
data is transferred within an IoT network [3][4]. The focus of active IoT research is shifting
towards data, how data is sent, how

Professional Hockey Players
In the world of professional sports, teams value youth, searching for the next super star. Whether it
is inking the highly coveted free agent, or rebuilding through drafts, General Managers have put a
premium on young athletes, hoping that these youngsters will become the face of the franchise.
Age and experience has seem to taken a back seat for teams. While it is important to develop
young prospects, veteran leadership is often hard to find during games, in the locker room, and
particularly during the playoffs. There are four current players in the National Hockey League who
are still excelling well into their 40 s, contributing on a nightly basis. They are Martin Brodeur,
Teemu Selanne, Jaromir Jagr, and Daniel Alfredsson.
Daniel Alfredsoon, the longtime captain of the Ottawa Senators, now plays for the Detroit Red
Wings. Alfredsson is 41 years old and is currently second on the team this season in goals, having
lit the lamp 17 times. With injuries to stars Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg, Alfredsson has
been able to step up and provide the scoring that Detroit desperately sought when its two stars
went down with injuries. He also has 26 assists on the season and is helping the Red Wings make
a late season push for the playoffs.
Alfredsson participated in his 5th Olympic games this February as a member of Sweden s team.
He had four points in five games, registering two goals and two assists to help his country earn a
silver medal after falling to Canada.

Violent Video Games Do Not Cause Gun Violence
The killings in Marshall County High School, Kentucky. The slaughters in Marjory Stoneman
Douglas High School, Florida. The shootings in Great Mills High School, Maryland. All of these
tragedies are results of gun violence. But gun violence cannot just occur out of nowhere; there has
to be a cause. Many people believe that violent video games are the direct cause of abusing the
power of guns. But research has proven that this is not true; violent video games do not cause the
actual school shootings.
In Japan, statistics show that 90% of all children ages 10 14 have video games in their houses. In
America, the statistics are the same, 90% of all children play video games [PDF]. Similarly, 95%
of all children in France ages 10 14 play video games [PDF]. In fact, Japan even has Call of Duty
and other violent video games in its top 50 most played video games [PDF]. For France, Call of
Duty and other such violent video games have even made it to the top 10 most played video games
of the year [PICTURE]. In 2014, only 6 people in Japan died of gun wounds, compared to the 33,
599 people that died in America [PDF]. So how is Japan and France not breaking out into a killing
spree equivalent to America s? 32, 500, 000 units Call of Duty Black Ops 111 has been sold world

Current State Of US Economy
Current state of US economy and effect of business in Ohio. The American economy has
suffered the deepest and most protracted recession since the Great Depression. The financial
crisis that began in the fall of 2008 had enduring effects on economic performance. In the first
quarter of 2009, real gross domestic product (real GDP) fell by 6.4 percent. Real GDP fell for
four straight quarters, from third quarter 2008 through second quarter 2009. The good news is
that we have enjoyed more than three years of uninterrupted economic growth (Real GDP) and
falling unemployment since the recession ended in June 2009. Economic growth (real GDP) has

Theme Of Humanity In The House Of The Scorpion
In The House of the Scorpion (THS), Nancy Farmer utilises a variety of themes, language features
and even characters to direct her message to the reader. The theme of humanity is mentioned
several times and introduced in a way that gets the audience thinking. The perspective of clones is
also a topic which is portrayed in multiple ways through different characters. The final and most
argued themein this novelare the ethics of cloning. These three main themes give the story a deeper
meaning. They also allow the reader to dive in and explore these ideas in an immersive manner.
The definition of humanity is portrayed by Farmer in multiple ways through the numerous
characters in the novel. The predominance of the Alacrans look at humanity is similar to a
hierarchy. They have the belief that those with power deserve to be acknowledged and those
below are mere tools to be used. We learn that They work without resting...they don t drink water
until someone tell[s] them to. (pg. 82). This indicates that the eejits are treated harshly without
being given any rights. We also know that most of the eejits are made from illegal immigrants and
those who disobey. The scorpion is used several times throughout the novel to symbolise strength,
authority and even evil. Contradictory to this is the Virgin Statue which symbolises ...all gentle
things (pg. 60). This symbol opposes a hierarchy and rather focuses on equality and love among all
people. Celia is always singing songs of the

Legal Issues Surrounding The Death Penalty
Some legal issues gain importance because they concern basic religious, social and ethical values.
Capital punishment is one of these concerning issues. Most people hold an opinion, pro or con
regarding the death penalty. Many people who favor the death penalty believe that capital
punishment costs less money, reduces the amount of murderers, and fulfills the concept of justice.
On the other hand people who disagree with capital punishmentbelieve that innocent people are
often put to death, it doesn t fix the crimeperson committed, and it s a cruel punishment. In viewing
both sides of the argument it is clear that the death penaltymust be abolished.
The history of the death penalty goes back as far as people can remember. The earliest records ...

The issue moved onto a front burner in July 1997 when Dieter s group published a report
claiming that 69 innocent persons had been freed from death rows since the reinstitution of
capital punishment in the United States in 1976. (Jost) The death penalty can be faulty. Some
also say that there s no point in putting someone to death. Revenge, anger and hate will never
cure the sadness of a lost loved one. They believe that it doesn t change the fact that crime the
suspect committed can never be fixed. What s done is done, and it can t be taken back. Also
different types of people like the mentally ill or juveniles get treated differently when it comes to
the death penalty. Sick people and children should not be executed. The death penalty applies
differently towards different people; For Example the United States has executed more juvenile
offenders 160 than any nation since 1973. (Cooper) Most who agree with capital punishment
follow the old Bible teaching, An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, and a life for a life. Support
for the capital punishment is strong in the U.S. 64% express support for the death penalty
(McCarthy) according to the recent Gallup Poll. People believe that anyone who takes another s
life away deserves to have their life taken. Many believe that the system serves as a form of
justice allowing suspect to get what they deserve. Many people think that the families of the
victims should be able to see the murderer suffer just as their loved ones

Outsourcing was not the only way low wage foreign workers affected the work force in the
1800s. There were also millions of immigrants added to the workforce. When that many new
workers were added to the labor force, of course it was not without effect on industrial wages they
were driven down.
Both outsourcing and immigration affected the economy in more ways than just the cost of labor.
Products were manufactured at a lower cost and thus sold for a lower price. Lower manufacturing
costs benefited the companies, and the lower prices of the goods produced benefited consumers.

How is it Possible?
According to Philip Kotler, Today s economic landscape is being shaped by two powerful forces
technology and globalization. Offshore outsourcing is made possible by these same two factors.
This is not surprising, given the history of technological advances effects on the economy.

How To Make A Trebuchet Essay
A Trebuchet is a weapon used during the medieval ages in siege warfare. The trebuchet was used
for the defense of towns, strongholds, and cities. First the materials used to build medieval
trebuchets. Second the origins of trebuchets. Third how trebuchets were transported. Fourth the
ancient trebuchet King Warwolf. Finally the end of an era. The materials used to build the
medieval trebuchets. The early trebuchets were made of straight, heavy oak logs. These logs
would have been held together by nails and rope or leather strips. It took anywhere from 100 up
to about 200 feet of wood logs: most where about 26 feet tall and the arm was about 49 feet for
the arm alone. Other wood was used for support and to create the pivot point. The origins of

How Isolation Affects The Behavior Of Different Animals
Different species occur when the genes in the animal mutate overtime. This changes the appearance
and the behaviour of the now slightly different animal. Eventually these traits will make them
change and evolve to their environment. This can happen when separation isolates them this also
prevents the different animals interbreeding. Eventually this isolates the two different speciesthat
were once one. Isolation and separation can occur by geographical barriers such as oceans,
rivers, mountain ranges or climatic barriers like rainfall, temperature, sunlight, ocean currents.
For example birds must have all come from one set of the same breed. This means that
budgerigars are related to eagles. They are only different because of the environment and the
amount of accessible food and water. For instance the eagles are bigger than the budgies because
eagles don t fly in flocks to make them self look big however budgies do need to, to protect
themselves. This is a survival trait that has developed and evolved over the generations.

Military Draft
While many people believe that an all volunteer service could be more efficient, the United States
government should institute a combination of a draft and volunteer service as its military service
profile. An all volunteer service is one which derives its manpower from volunteers rather than
conscription or mandatory service. Conscription(or drafting) is the compulsory enlistment of people
in some sort of national service, such as militaryservice. Many arguments are presented in support
of both the draft and the all volunteer force. These arguments are analyzed in the following
categories: military effectiveness; cost and other economic considerations; and morality. Even
though the United Stateschanged to an all volunteer service in 1973, the country reserves the right
to renew conscription in the event of an emergency.

It is clear that the country would not have nothing to lose having a combination of those two,
instead, would benefit the United States in every way possible. Since depending on an all
volunteer force has meant that the military cannot always recruit and retain enough personnel for
its needs, a draft would provide the people that the military needs, but also would decrease their
overall cost every year since they would not have to offer attractive pay and benefits through
military recruitment to attract volunteers. In the other hand, volunteer would also be a big hit to
the military because since retention rates have improved and initial enlistment periods have
become longer in the AVF, experience levels have increased. Women in the military could be the
best fit. Since women, under a draft, are likely to fall because of the military Selective Service
System, women can enlist voluntarily. Those advantages would help the best for a better of the

The Humanities And Its Impact On Education Essay
Martha Nussbaum argues that primary, secondary, and especially, higher education institutions are
cutting the humanities from curricula. According to Nussbaum, our nation and those like it are
economically hungry and are pushing technical careers instead. She disputes that a decrease in the
humanities will cause a loss in free thinking, and therefore a loss of democracy. Her argument is
based off of her theory that without the humanities, citizens become soulless, mechanical, and profit
making machines. This theory is based off the notion that the humanities are continuing to be cut
from curricula at an extensive rate. But are the humanities truly decreasing? Nussbaum is accurate
in saying that fewer people are majoring in the humanities; however, she drastically exaggerates the
rate in which they are decreasing. In fact, the rate in which the humanities have been declining has
levelled out over the past few decades. So, it would seem that democracy is safe, for the most part.
What are the humanities? The EncyclopУ•dia Britannica says: Those branches of knowledge that
concern themselves with human beings and their culture or with analytic and critical methods of
inquiry derived from an appreciation of human values and of the unique ability of the human spirit
to express itself (EncylopУ•dia Britannica). The humanities look at the humankind as a whole to
understand various cultures, ideals, and values. This concept can be looked at throughout history,

Abstract
A central tenet of agency theory is that there is potential for mischief when the interests of owners
and managers diverge. In those circumstances, and for a variety of reasons, managers may be able
to exact higher rents than are reasonable or than the owners of the firm would otherwise accord
them. While that foundational element of agency theory is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The Fundamental Agency Problem and Its Mitigation 3 Early on, three principal approaches were
developed to minimize the agency problem. One, the independence approach, suggested that boards
of directors, comprised to be independent of management, can monitor managers and assure that
their interests do not diverge substantially from those of owners (Fama, 1980; Fama Jensen, 1983a,
1983b; Jensen Meckling, 1976; Mizruchi, 1983; see also Chandler, 1977). Another method, the
equity approach, proposed that managers with equity in the firm were more likely to embrace the
interests of other equity holders and, accordingly, to direct the firm in their joint interests (Fama
Jensen, 1983b; Jensen Meckling, 1976). Lastly, there was the notion of the market for corporate
control, which set forth the principle that corporate markets may operate to discipline managers
who inappropriately leverage their agency advantage. In such cases, self serving executives may
subject the firm to acquisition by other firms (Fama Jensen, 1983a; Jensen Ruback, 1983; Manne,
1965). While these three corporate governance approaches are rational in principle, the efficacy of
these approaches in practice remains subject to debate. Accordingly, in subsequent sections of this
manuscript, we provide a multidisciplinary overview of agency theory with an emphasis on the
three mechanisms through which the fundamental agency

Judges and Ruth Essay
Contrast the moral and responsible behavior of the Israelites between Judges 16 19 and Ruth 1 4

Judges there are twelve individuals who are considered saviors. They save their own tribes or a

However, the Israelites allowed them to control those sections of Canaan. Those that delivered

Messages About Morality and Politics Conveyed in...
A morality play is a medieval play designed to teach the audience right from wrong. JB Priestley
uses An Inspector call to convey a moral message, which is that you should not judge people on
their class i.e. lower working class/higher class. He also expands the views of socialism within
the message; this is all made very clear by the use of dramatic devices. Although it is a morality
play it is not in the traditional format. Priestley makes it very clear in what he wants the audience
to think is moral and immoral. The play also conveys a strong political message. The play
encourages the idea of socialism, a society in which responsibility and community are essential, also

Mrs Birling could symbolise wrath, because she was angry at Eva Smith for naming herself Mrs
Birling . Shelia could symbolise envy as she was jealous or Eva smith as she thought she was
pretty and look better that she did in the dress. Gerald could symbolise lust, as he had an affair
with Eva. Being able to point out that the Birlings can be identified as the sins shows the audience
how JB Priestley highlights the idea that capitalism is itself a sin. This is also why the genre of an
inspector calls is a morality play.
Two of the Birlings show a positive reaction to The Inspectors message, who are Eric and Shelia,
however Mr and Mrs Birling give a negative reaction. Priestley uses the generation divide to show
how the younger generation symbolise hope for the future. Priestley shows that Eric and Shelia
regret what they have done, which suggests they will make an effort to improve their relationships
with others, especially towards the general public such as Eva Smith. However their parents are the
complete opposite, they are only interested in their wealth and material items.
Priestley sets out a sequence of stage directions at the beginning of the play, he applies them
successfully as a dramatic device. He uses the stage directions to show the audience that the Birling

The State Library Of New South Wales
The State Library of New South Wales recently received a collection of original drawings by
contemporary Australian political cartoonist David Rowe. This collection, comprising 5,553
drawings in total, was donated by Rowe via the Cultural Gifts Program, a government initiative
that provides tax incentives for gifts of cultural significance. Before this donation can be acquired,
it is to be assessed by the Collection Management Committee to determine its suitability as a
collection item. The Committee will evaluate the collection based on its significance, as well as its
relationship to the Library s Collection Development Policy and other State Library of New South
Walescollections. Despite this responsibility resting with the Committee, since the commencement
of my internship, the Collection Strategy and Development Department was operating under the
assumption that the collection would indeed be acquired. Given Rowe s celebrity status, there was
never any discussion of declining his offer of donation.
David Rowe is one of, if not, the best Australian political cartoonist today. Born in the Netherlands
in 1968, Rowe s family migrated to Canberra when he was age four. His passion for drawing began

The Trump administration has taken the initiative to halt and revert recent environmental
regulations, which were heavily championed by the previous administration. In order to

arguments made by the opposition will be reviewed. Given the dimensionality of the issue, this
paper predominantly spotlights the use of coal.

Additionally, some companies relocate to a different country with less stringent regulations. On
March 28, 2017, President Donald Trump signed an executive order to have the Clean Power
Plan reviewed, which would have closed hundreds of coal fired power plants, and frozen
construction of new plants (Davenport 2017). The coal industry is one of those industries being
significantly affected by regulations attempting to address controversial environmental issues.
According the National Mining Association (NMA), the Energy Information Administration
(EIA) found that by nullifying the Clean Power Plan would preserve 240 million tons of annual
coal production, saving 27,700 high wage mining jobs and an additional 99,849 jobs throughout
the supply chain (NMA 2017). Furthermore, the NMA forecasts the Clean Power Plan would
harm the wider economy, including households and businesses. If the policy goes through, the
typical annual household electricity bills in 2020 would be more than a third higher than they
were in 2012, or an estimated $680 per family (NMA 2017). Such an increase on the electric bill
can be devastating for low income families struggling to make ends meet. The negative stigma
surrounding coal has also clouded the public s perception, resulting voters to be misinformed about
the industry. Only nine percent of voters are aware coal fueled power plants have

The Themes Of Altruism In Night By Elie Wiesel
Altruism is what separates man from beast. Humans as a species differ from the majority of the
animal kingdom in their willingness to sacrifice their own well being for the benefit of others. To
be human is to be compassionate and caring for your fellow man. In Night, Elie Wiesel shows that
humanity can be usurped. Subjected to the inhuman conditions of the Nazi concentration camps, his
sense of altruism and compassion essentially disappear, leaving only animalistic self interest and
the instinct to survive.
Not yet exposed to the horrors of the concentration camp, Elie enters Birkenau with his innate
senses of compassion and altruism intact. Soon after his arrival, Elie witnesses the burning of
children, women, and men alike. In response to this horrific sight, Elie becomes doubtful of the
reality of the situation and questions, How was it possible... that the world kept silent? (32). As
seen in the creation of Night and this question, for Elie, silence is unthinkable. At this point, Elie
still holds faith in the power that people hold. However, there is only hope to save these people, if
the silence breaks. In addition to this thinking, his tone of disbelief contributes to Elie s
demonstration of one of man s most primitive instinct: compassion. This compassion is still strong
in Elie, for if it were not, why would he have questioned this so passionately?
To cope with the oppressive treatment from the concentration camps officials, Elie s innate senses
of compassion and altruism wane. Watching his father subject himself to the beating, Elie s
wishes that his father had not incurred the wrath of Idek, the Kapo. However instead rescuing his
father from the blows, Elie watche[s] it all happening without moving. [He] kept silent. In fact,
[he] thought of stealing away in order not to suffer the blows (54). In his fleeting thoughts of
abandoning his father to deal with the beating alone, Elie is beginning to betray the bonds of
family; he is losing the original compassion and willingness to sacrifice himself that he entered the
camp with. Although there is a suggestion of worry and compassion left in Elie s tone, this is not
strong enough to for Elie to forgo his own safety and wellbeing. In this, Elie has

The Four Paths Of Ancient Religions In The Wizard Of Oz
In the 1939 film The Wizard Of Oz, Dorothy Gale is a farmer s daughter living with her family
and dog Toto in the plains of Kansas when suddenly a tornado strikes, sending her into an alternate
reality from which she must figure out how to return home. The story proves itself to be pretty
trippy like many epics and sacred texts of ancient religions, as it involves munchkins, haunted
forests, flying monkeys, a tin man, and a yellow brick road. But imagine The Wizard Of Ozas
having a religious twist not hard to picture, as there are many parallels in the film that can easily
relate to those found in ancient southeastern Asian religions. As she is a benevolent and careful girl

All measures are taken to avoid killing anything at all, including bugs outside at night, during
which contemporary Jains try to stay indoors in order to see where they re stepping. Jains
primarily practice non violence through their diet, eating only foods harvested or grown completely
ethically, in that no animal or entire plant was killed in the process from farm to table. This means
they do not consume roots or nightshades, and obviously no meat from any animal or insect of any
kind. To further support the Jain like qualities of Dorothy, it is important to note that every instance
of violence involving Dorothy in the film stems from someone or something other than herself:
Toto bit the neighbor, the water she was using to extinguish the fire burning the Scarecrow
transitively killed the Wicked Witch of the West, and the house from which Dorothy exited into
Oz which squashed the Wicked Witch of the East went flying dangerously in the first place only
because of the tornado. She even preferred running away from home to prevent Toto from being

and her friends whole adventure was to discover their own truths the Tin Man always had heart,
the Scarecrow didn t need a brain, the Lion was always capable of courage, and there is no place
like home. Jains tend to collectively assert that truth requires solid morality and sincerity no acts of

the second, and his quest to restore his family to the glory it once had. Artemis plans on doing this
by the means of fairies. He learned of their possession of gold, which lead him to kidnap a fairy
with the intention of making a profit.
Artemis Fowl the second, a twelve year old genius, is the protagonist of the story. He is a pale
boy who is gifted with computers, and he spends most of his time indoors. Though he does leave
from the haven of his family manor, Artemis dislikes being in the sun. Artemis father is absent in
Artemis life, though he may be alive, but Artemis still has Butler, his bodyguard and closest person

2. Quote Analysis Even as the words came out, Artemis felt guilty. These mind games were

Informal Interview Over Dinner
Reliability has a long history as one of the key psychometric properties of a test, but a given test
might not measure people equally reliably (Hu, Nesselroade, Erbacher, Boker, Burt, Keel ...
Klump, 2016). Test scores from some individuals might have considerably greater error than
others. It has a lot to do with the consistency of the test subject s performance on the test. While
there are several methods for estimating test reliability, the four major types are inter rater, test
retest, parallel, and internal consistency (Heneman, Judge, Kammeyer Mueller, 2012). Inter rater
reliability is used to assess the point to which different raters give consistent estimates of the
same occurrence. Interrater reliability offers a measure of the consistency of scores that could be
expected across raters. Inter rater reliability is valuable because human raters will not essentially
understand each answers the same way. Evaluating how an informal interview over dinner, a
formal presentation to managers, and managerial evaluations of performance potential compare
for this type of reliability is that the some raters may disagree as to how well certain replies

Affluenza Case Study Essay
In Mr. Couch s case, I am on the side of nurture. While he still should have endured a greater
consequence, it is clear that Mr. Couch and other privileged kids are beginning to show symptoms
of affluenza. This seems to be a rising problem in modern society. However, there are other places
to learn right from wrong other than places like home. Schoolcould be used as a great example as a
place to learn what decisions should and should not be made. The issue with using school as an
example is that money follows people. Parents who can afford to pay for private schooling can a

Love And Sorrow In Venus And Adonis
B) Making reference to Ovid s Metamorphoses, discuss the ways in which William Shakespeare s
Venus and Adonis presents the relationship between love and sorrow.
The relationship between Love and Sorrow is very complex in William Shakespeare s Venus and
Adonis, as the tale leaves out key parts of the myth, in order to be as entertaining as possible. That
is where Ovid s Metamorphoses comes into the picture as it almost fills in the gaps of Shakespeare s
recounting. Throughout both instances of the myth, the meaning of love is constantly being played
with, and a lot of the time the definition lends itself better to that of lust s. In Shakespeare s Venus

Lo, in this hollow cradle take thy rest;
My throbbing heart shall rock thee day and night:
There shall not be one minute in an hour

In Ovid s Metamorphoses , we learn the name of this flower is the Anemone and in turn, we learn
that Venus is right about her father. In Mythology, Venus/Aphrodite is believed to be born from

that lives under the sea hence the connection to her father. In this final epilogue, we learn Venus

Security Risks And Vulnerabilities Of Mobile Payment...
Abstract
Mobile payment apps such as Vemo and PayPal are quickly becoming one of the most popular
ways for peer to peer money transfer and other apps allow users to have contactless payment at
checkout. These apps contain very personal and accessible information, yet there is little to no
concern for the security of this valuable information. This paper will access the current security
risks and vulnerabilities of mobile payment applications and what users should be doing to protect
themselves. This is important to the cyber security body of knowledge because thieves will use the
vulnerabilities of the apps to steal personal information. It then falls into the hands of cyber security
specialist to protect and educate users to decrease crime.
Introduction
Payment processes have evolved from the traditional cash or cards to innovative electronic wallets
on smartphones. Consumers are accepting this new form of convenient payment and imputing all
of their personal data including their full name and credit card information onto apps such as
Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, Pay Pal, etc. These apps are available on both the Apple Store and

The Role Of Women In The Philippines
The role of women in the Philippines has changed throughout many years. Women have fought
for equal rights and endured social oppression for many decades. Much like the United States,
the Philippines journeyed through traditional family roles, strict family expectations and serious
consequences for breaking the accepted norm. In the traditional Filipino society, gender culture
has been transformed by tremendous Western European and American influences (Francoeur,
Perper, and Reiss 2001: 825). Specifically, since the 1960 s, more Western practices had begun to
shape their culture. Previously, Islamic and Chinese traditions molded early Filipino ways of
life. In traditional Chinese society, women were to be obedient to the father and elder brothers
when young (single), to the husband when married, and to their sons when widowed (Francoeur
et al.2001: 826), this remained true in the Philippines too. Marriage was a strict union, and
women often married to survive economically, obeying their male counterparts. Women s
virginities were emphasized and taken very seriously. Women were expected to enter marriage
as a virgin, while men did not have that same expectation of purity. If women participated in
casual sex or conceived children out of wedlock they were considered dirty and loose, and looked
down upon by their society (Francoeur et al. 2001: 826 827). Religion influenced women s sexual
roles and duties. A large portion of the Filipino population were either Catholic,

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Congress
Although there are strengths in the way the United States Congress is built to deal with issues,
there are many weaknesses that counteract these strengths. Congress is a bicameral legislature that
is made up of both the House of Representatives and the Senate. The strengths are in the way
Congress has clearly established rules. The three branches of government were created to make a
separation of powersso that no one branch can be more powerful than the next; which is known as
checks and balances. The clearly established rules that Congress has to follow is a major strength,
and although these checks and balances are beneficial, they tend to cause many dilemmas making

It is the job of both Congress and the president to make a yearly fiscal budget as well as
implementing tax regulations. There has been seventeen spending gaps since the government
revised its budgeting process which is a huge weakness. The United States is supposed to be the
world leader, yet their government has not even been able to agree on a budget half of the time.
The one good thing about this budget is that Congress creates a debt limit that the president has
to abide by. In theory this limit should help prevent overspending but when the president gets
close to the debt limit Congress has an option to raise the debt limit, which they always do. If
Congress does not raise the debt limit, the president will have to decide which bills do not get

provided since that time many improvements have taken place. Such as the accessibility to
information regarding the amount of individuals that are victims of any crime in any specific area
at any time. All the reforms, movements and implementations of theories, laws, rights and
programs that have taken hold since that time period have been very beneficial for society and
makes us more aware of what is out there and how to be prepared for the worst case possible
scenario. Out of the many things mentioned in the book Victimology, Leah E. Daigle/Lisa R.
Muftic, I was greatly intrigued by the prevention section of it. One thing that caught my eye was
the fact that many if not all come to the same conclusion when it comes to crime itself which is, is
just simply easier to reduce/remove opportunities that would put us at risk rather than swaying the
motivation of any type of offender.
Many will argue that victims do get their fair share of compensation, but they really get what they
deserve? Victims have been around for a long time and many if not all individuals have been
affected either personally

Description Of An Energy Efficient Multi Channel Routing...
Multichannel approach for LEACH
B.Brahma Reddy, ECE, VBIT, Hyderabad, India, reddybb@hotmail.com
K.Kishan Rao, Vaagdevi College of Engineering, Warangal, India, prof_kkr@rediffmail.com
Abstract: LEACH TDMA schedules of each cluster are built independently. This can lead to
collisions among clusters if the same channel is allotted to more than one overlapping clusters at
the same time. To reduce this type of interference, in LEACH each cluster communicates using
different CDMA codes. Thus, when a node is elected as CH, it chooses randomly from a list of
spreading codes and informs all the nodes in the cluster to transmit using this spreading code.
Hence all clusters can have intra cluster communication in parallel. However, in large WSNs, as
number of clusters increases self noise generated by these codes may cross threshold limit and reach
capacity limit. This forces to look at multiple channel use for improved throughput and energy
efficiency. We present an energy efficient multi channel routingprotocol (CFCA) for wireless sensor
networks. By computing the size of each cluster and identifying non overlapping clusters, the
proposed method allows channel reuse within WSN. This algorithm optimizes number of channels
required for the given WSN.
Key words: LEACH, Collision free Multichannel, Cross layer, Beacon enabled, Energy efficiency,
Frequency reuse in WSN

The main goal of communication protocols in WSNs is to maximize energy efficiency in order to

A Lesson While Living by Ernest Gaines
A Lesson While Living In a society where hardships occur daily, it is vital to have something to
hold on to as an anchor. This reliance or commitment is in the form of friends, family, or even
tangible possessions; however, humans sometimes have to fulfill deeds for others instead of
continually thinking of themselves. Given these obligations, there results both a need and a desire
to complete certain tasks for other individuals, for a community, or even for a higher power. In his
novel, A Lesson Before Dying, Ernest Gaines quite successfully portrays the theme of the
importance of obligation and commitment through presenting an effective setting and community,
constructing strong relationships between characters, and providing... Show more content on

Consequently, in spite of her sternness with Grant, Tante Lou s concern and hope for Grant truly
radiates. In his analysis of A Lesson Before Dying, Larson states, Bitter in his own way and aloof
from the community he has come to loathe, Grant is initially uninvolved, until his aunt (Miss
Emma s friend) asks that he try to make Jefferson into a man ( A Lesson Before Dying ). Without a
mother figure such as Tante Lou, Grant would have remained bitter and distant throughout the
novel and never apprehended the magnitude of his helping Jefferson. Meanwhile, Miss Emma also
tries to urge Grant to conform, only in a different way from Tante Lou s. Her constant murmurs of
He don t have to do it actually shows the enormity of her need for Grant (Gaines 13). With this, she
pushes the school teacher to make her boy a true man, and at the same time she eradicates the
resentment of helping Jefferson which is within Grant. Unmistakably, the prime reason Tante Lou
and Miss Emma are able to motivate Grant is due to their devotion both to religion and church.
Unlike Grant, the two women are dedicated to their religion and use it as a haven from their
discontent within their racist white society. Consequently, they represent symbols of community
and family throughout the novel. On the other hand, Grant cannot settle down and instead
constantly focuses on escaping from the very stereotypes he does not want to face. Then there his

unnatural Exposure Essay
For part of my independent study I read the book Unnatural Exposure, by Patricia Cornwell. The
book is a murder mystery with a large focus on the forensic aspects of the investigation. The
main character in the book is Dr. Kay Scarpetta, a medical examiner form Virginia. She is
recently divorced and live in an apartment by herself. She could be described as a workaholic
since she spends all of her time thinking and working on her cases. She is always the first person
to arrive at the morgue and the last to leave.
As the book begins, Dr. Scarpetta is called to a crime scene at a garbage dump in Virginia. When
she gets there she soon realizes that it must be a horrific scene ... Show more content on

As the communication went on DEADDOC mailed her actual pictures of the arms and legs
lying in pools of blood. The FBI tried very hard to find out were DEADDOC was plugged in to a
phone jack but he was never on line long enough to track him down. This became very frustrating
for Kay and she tried to move on to other cases.
The next scene Dr. Kay Scarpetta was called to was on a remote island right off the shores of
Virginia. When she arrived at the scene she was told that it was a woman and she was found
dead in her bead. The local cops also warned the doctor that the dead woman had bumps and
welts all over her body. Thinking nothing of this information Kay walked up the stairs into the
bedroom and began to investigate the scene. When she pulled back the sheets she was shocked.
Dr. Scarpetta was looking at the woman and started feeling extremely uneasy. She had seen these
types of bumps and wounds before. They looked like some sort of smallpox disease. As soon as she
made the connection to this highly infectious disease Kay ran out of the room. The whole Island had
to be quarantined and Dr. Scarpetta was put into solitary confinement until they were sure she was
not infected.
After she got out of confinement she realized that she had seen some similar bumps on the torso
she had been examining earlier. The two crimes were now

The Rock Opera Jesus Christ Star
The rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar was written by Tim Rice, then 25 year old lyricist and
Andrew Lloyd Webber, then 21 year old composer. The rock opera portrays the last seven days of
the life of Jesus as it was seen through the Judas eyes. This piece of art is considered as a fairly
radical rock hybrid concerning the final days of the life of Jesus. This was the third musical that
had been written by Webber and Rice. His long fascination with Judas Iscariot made him perceive
Judas as a dear friend of Jesus who was struggling with the consequences of the growing celebrity
of Jesus rather than a craven betrayer of Christ (Evita Music, pg. 16).
Despite this musical finding broad support among the vast liberal Christian churches, the piece was
nonetheless too controversial as to get financial backing that was essential for its stage production.
The lyrics of this musical were particularly clunky and its score normally overwrought. Despite this,
this musical was the turning point of popular cultural representation of Jesus as it consequently
made a powerful statement concerning the celebrity figure in the process.
Thesis statement: The musical, Jesus Christ Superstar is about the suffering as well as the pain that
was caused to an individual by the dehumanizing effect of fame.
Jesus representation in Jesus Christ Superstar was particularly influenced by the Jesus Movement
as well as the hippie culture that emerged in California in the late 60s. This prompted several

  • 2. The Impact Of Reality Television And Its Impact On Society Reality television is an addicting phenomenon that graces millions of televisions daily. From shows like Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Life of Kylie, and Love and Hip Hop to series like My Strange Addiction, Hoarders, and My 600 lb Life, reality TV has left its mark and impacted today s society in more ways than one. It has slithered into mass media to dominate lives and focus on real events or situations that have long term effects on its viewers. This brand of television serves as a reflection of society and often exploits its participants if not glamorizes a certain lifestyle that may seem unattainable to its viewers. For example, the Kardashians represent success and the achievement of the American dream that, to many, is elusive. Through the dramatization of mental illness, Hoarders exploits its viewers and reinforces the perception of these people as outsiders which lead to further marginalization and hiding of hoarding behavior. Shows that look down on and criticize certain lifestyles, such as Hoarders, function as a cautionary story and is put out to the public as a warning of how not to live. Lifestyle themed programs are also connected to broader campaigns, orchestrated by private and public partners to promote desired behaviors such as delayed parenting and healthy eating (Oullette). With this program, A E tends to sensationalize these people and sends the message to its audience that this behavior is monstrous and should be avoided at all costs. A E chooses to dramatize the manifestation of hoarding as opposed to using the platform to get to the root of hoarding for both the viewers and the hoarders themselves. Although some episodes are less offensive than others, Hoarders exploits its subjects and interferes with the viewer s potential for empathy. The ordinary celebrity promised by television, and the incitement to perform the real for ratings, accentuates these possibilities and constraints, and raises important questions about whether ordinary people are empowered or exploited through nonfiction and reality programming (Oullette). Instead of encouraging proper treatment it presents hoarding as something that is impossible to relate to and rather than sympathize, viewers are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Data And Data Analysis Paper The world is converging toward a critical point in history where the question has to be asked, will there be enough resources to go around? Populations around the globe are growing and moving out of poverty towards the consumption based lifestyles of western countries. This means more is needed, more oil, more water, and more food. These resources are finite, limited, and often wasted. Through the use of technology and data, these resources can be better utilized. Data and data analysis will allow these systems to be optimized to produce more and waste less. The goal of this project is to use data and apply it to the field of plant growth and agriculture. The Internet of Things (IoT) is a data driven technology that seeks to integrate and connect everyday devices and sensors. This data infrastructure can be used for a variety of applications such as home automation, industrial manufacturing, healthcare, and smart agriculture. Although each application is derived from a significantly different field, the underlying communication protocols are very similar and must adhere to similar constraints. The constraints of low power devices, lossy links, noisy environments, and embedded microcontrollers with limited memory and processing power. These protocols are the basis of the IoT protocol stack. They create the framework that determines how data is transferred within an IoT network [3][4]. The focus of active IoT research is shifting towards data, how data is sent, how ... • 5. Professional Hockey Players In the world of professional sports, teams value youth, searching for the next super star. Whether it is inking the highly coveted free agent, or rebuilding through drafts, General Managers have put a premium on young athletes, hoping that these youngsters will become the face of the franchise. Age and experience has seem to taken a back seat for teams. While it is important to develop young prospects, veteran leadership is often hard to find during games, in the locker room, and particularly during the playoffs. There are four current players in the National Hockey League who are still excelling well into their 40 s, contributing on a nightly basis. They are Martin Brodeur, Teemu Selanne, Jaromir Jagr, and Daniel Alfredsson. Daniel Alfredsoon, the longtime captain of the Ottawa Senators, now plays for the Detroit Red Wings. The shootings in Great Mills High School, Maryland. All of these tragedies are results of gun violence. But gun violence cannot just occur out of nowhere; there has to be a cause. Many people believe that violent video games are the direct cause of abusing the power of guns. But research has proven that this is not true; violent video games do not cause the actual school shootings. In Japan, statistics show that 90% of all children ages 10 14 have video games in their houses. In America, the statistics are the same, 90% of all children play video games [PDF]. Theme Of Humanity In The House Of The Scorpion In The House of the Scorpion (THS), Nancy Farmer utilises a variety of themes, language features and even characters to direct her message to the reader. The theme of humanity is mentioned several times and introduced in a way that gets the audience thinking. The perspective of clones is also a topic which is portrayed in multiple ways through different characters. The final and most argued themein this novelare the ethics of cloning. These three main themes give the story a deeper meaning. They also allow the reader to dive in and explore these ideas in an immersive manner. This can happen when separation isolates them this also prevents the different animals interbreeding. Eventually this isolates the two different speciesthat were once one. Isolation and separation can occur by geographical barriers such as oceans, rivers, mountain ranges or climatic barriers like rainfall, temperature, sunlight, ocean currents. For example birds must have all come from one set of the same breed. This means that budgerigars are related to eagles. • 15. The Humanities And Its Impact On Education Essay Martha Nussbaum argues that primary, secondary, and especially, higher education institutions are cutting the humanities from curricula. According to Nussbaum, our nation and those like it are economically hungry and are pushing technical careers instead. She disputes that a decrease in the humanities will cause a loss in free thinking, and therefore a loss of democracy. Her argument is based off of her theory that without the humanities, citizens become soulless, mechanical, and profit making machines. This theory is based off the notion that the humanities are continuing to be cut from curricula at an extensive rate. But are the humanities truly decreasing? Nussbaum is accurate in saying that fewer people are majoring in the humanities; however, she drastically exaggerates the rate in which they are decreasing. In fact, the rate in which the humanities have been declining has levelled out over the past few decades. So, it would seem that democracy is safe, for the most part. What are the humanities? The EncyclopУ•dia Britannica says: Those branches of knowledge that concern themselves with human beings and their culture or with analytic and critical methods of inquiry derived from an appreciation of human values and of the unique ability of the human spirit to express itself (EncylopУ•dia Britannica). The Fundamental Agency Problem and Its Mitigation 3 Early on, three principal approaches were developed to minimize the agency problem. One, the independence approach, suggested that boards of directors, comprised to be independent of management, can monitor managers and assure that their interests do not diverge substantially from those of owners (Fama, 1980; Fama Jensen, 1983a, 1983b; Jensen Meckling, 1976; Mizruchi, 1983; see also Chandler, 1977). Another method, the equity approach, proposed that managers with equity in the firm were more likely to embrace the interests of other equity holders and, accordingly, to direct the firm in their joint interests (Fama Jensen, 1983b; Jensen Meckling, 1976). Lastly, there was the notion of the market for corporate control, which set forth the principle that corporate markets may operate to discipline managers who inappropriately leverage their agency advantage. In such cases, self serving executives may subject the firm to acquisition by other firms (Fama Jensen, 1983a; Jensen Ruback, 1983; Manne, 1965). While these three corporate governance approaches are rational in principle, the efficacy of these approaches in practice remains subject to debate. Accordingly, in subsequent sections of this manuscript, we provide a multidisciplinary overview of agency theory with an emphasis on the three mechanisms through which the fundamental agency ... Additionally, arguments made by the opposition will be reviewed. Given the dimensionality of the issue, this paper predominantly spotlights the use of coal. Additionally, some companies relocate to a different country with less stringent regulations. On March 28, 2017, President Donald Trump signed an executive order to have the Clean Power Plan reviewed, which would have closed hundreds of coal fired power plants, and frozen construction of new plants (Davenport 2017). The coal industry is one of those industries being significantly affected by regulations attempting to address controversial environmental issues. According the National Mining Association (NMA), the Energy Information Administration (EIA) found that by nullifying the Clean Power Plan would preserve 240 million tons of annual coal production, saving 27,700 high wage mining jobs and an additional 99,849 jobs throughout the supply chain (NMA 2017). Furthermore, the NMA forecasts the Clean Power Plan would harm the wider economy, including households and businesses. If the policy goes through, the typical annual household electricity bills in 2020 would be more than a third higher than they were in 2012, or an estimated $680 per family (NMA 2017). Such an increase on the electric bill can be devastating for low income families struggling to make ends meet. The negative stigma surrounding coal has also clouded the public s perception, resulting voters to be misinformed about the industry. • 27. The Themes Of Altruism In Night By Elie Wiesel Altruism is what separates man from beast. Humans as a species differ from the majority of the animal kingdom in their willingness to sacrifice their own well being for the benefit of others. To be human is to be compassionate and caring for your fellow man. In Night, Elie Wiesel shows that humanity can be usurped. Subjected to the inhuman conditions of the Nazi concentration camps, his sense of altruism and compassion essentially disappear, leaving only animalistic self interest and the instinct to survive. Not yet exposed to the horrors of the concentration camp, Elie enters Birkenau with his innate senses of compassion and altruism intact. Soon after his arrival, Elie witnesses the burning of children, women, and men alike. In response to this horrific sight, Elie becomes doubtful of the reality of the situation and questions, How was it possible... that the world kept silent? (32). As seen in the creation of Night and this question, for Elie, silence is unthinkable. At this point, Elie still holds faith in the power that people hold. However, there is only hope to save these people, if the silence breaks. In addition to this thinking, his tone of disbelief contributes to Elie s demonstration of one of man s most primitive instinct: compassion. This compassion is still strong in Elie, for if it were not, why would he have questioned this so passionately? To cope with the oppressive treatment from the concentration camps officials, Elie s innate senses of compassion and altruism wane. Watching his father subject himself to the beating, Elie s wishes that his father had not incurred the wrath of Idek, the Kapo. However instead rescuing his father from the blows, Elie watche[s] it all happening without moving. [He] kept silent. In fact, [he] thought of stealing away in order not to suffer the blows (54). In his fleeting thoughts of abandoning his father to deal with the beating alone, Elie is beginning to betray the bonds of family; he is losing the original compassion and willingness to sacrifice himself that he entered the camp with. Although there is a suggestion of worry and compassion left in Elie s tone, this is not strong enough to for Elie to forgo his own safety and wellbeing. In this, Elie has ... The Four Paths Of Ancient Religions In The Wizard Of Oz In the 1939 film The Wizard Of Oz, Dorothy Gale is a farmer s daughter living with her family and dog Toto in the plains of Kansas when suddenly a tornado strikes, sending her into an alternate reality from which she must figure out how to return home. The story proves itself to be pretty trippy like many epics and sacred texts of ancient religions, as it involves munchkins, haunted forests, flying monkeys, a tin man, and a yellow brick road. But imagine The Wizard Of Ozas having a religious twist not hard to picture, as there are many parallels in the film that can easily relate to those found in ancient southeastern Asian religions. Klump, 2016). Test scores from some individuals might have considerably greater error than others. It has a lot to do with the consistency of the test subject s performance on the test. While there are several methods for estimating test reliability, the four major types are inter rater, test retest, parallel, and internal consistency (Heneman, Judge, Kammeyer Mueller, 2012). Inter rater reliability is used to assess the point to which different raters give consistent estimates of the same occurrence. Interrater reliability offers a measure of the consistency of scores that could be expected across raters. Inter rater reliability is valuable because human raters will not essentially understand each answers the same way. Much like the United States, the Philippines journeyed through traditional family roles, strict family expectations and serious consequences for breaking the accepted norm. In the traditional Filipino society, gender culture has been transformed by tremendous Western European and American influences (Francoeur, Perper, and Reiss 2001: 825). Specifically, since the 1960 s, more Western practices had begun to shape their culture. Previously, Islamic and Chinese traditions molded early Filipino ways of life. In traditional Chinese society, women were to be obedient to the father and elder brothers when young (single), to the husband when married, and to their sons when widowed (Francoeur et al.2001: 826), this remained true in the Philippines too. Marriage was a strict union, and women often married to survive economically, obeying their male counterparts. Women s virginities were emphasized and taken very seriously. Women were expected to enter marriage as a virgin, while men did not have that same expectation of purity. If women participated in casual sex or conceived children out of wedlock they were considered dirty and loose, and looked down upon by their society (Francoeur et al. 2001: 826 827). Women are not always the victims, also men, children, elderly or mentally/physically disabled people as well. Victimology is a topic that has been intriguing to me for a while. It certainly has come a long way since 1947 when Benjamin Mendelsohn coined the term. According to all the history that has been provided since that time many improvements have taken place. Such as the accessibility to information regarding the amount of individuals that are victims of any crime in any specific area at any time. All the reforms, movements and implementations of theories, laws, rights and programs that have taken hold since that time period have been very beneficial for society and makes us more aware of what is out there and how to be prepared for the worst case possible scenario. Out of the many things mentioned in the book Victimology, Leah E. Daigle/Lisa R. Muftic, I was greatly intrigued by the prevention section of it. One thing that caught my eye was the fact that many if not all come to the same conclusion when it comes to crime itself which is, is just simply easier to reduce/remove opportunities that would put us at risk rather than swaying the motivation of any type of offender. Many will argue that victims do get their fair share of compensation, but they really get what they deserve? • 41. Description Of An Energy Efficient Multi Channel Routing... Multichannel approach for LEACH B.Brahma Reddy, ECE, VBIT, Hyderabad, India, reddybb@hotmail.com K.Kishan Rao, Vaagdevi College of Engineering, Warangal, India, prof_kkr@rediffmail.com Abstract: LEACH TDMA schedules of each cluster are built independently. This can lead to collisions among clusters if the same channel is allotted to more than one overlapping clusters at the same time. To reduce this type of interference, in LEACH each cluster communicates using different CDMA codes. Thus, when a node is elected as CH, it chooses randomly from a list of spreading codes and informs all the nodes in the cluster to transmit using this spreading code. Hence all clusters can have intra cluster communication in parallel. However, in large WSNs, as number of clusters increases self noise generated by these codes may cross threshold limit and reach capacity limit. This forces to look at multiple channel use for improved throughput and energy efficiency. We present an energy efficient multi channel routingprotocol (CFCA) for wireless sensor networks. By computing the size of each cluster and identifying non overlapping clusters, the proposed method allows channel reuse within WSN. This algorithm optimizes number of channels required for the given WSN.
