Punk In Der Ddr Analysis
This display of the potential of fashion as expression directly correlates with the relationship that
the punk scene of the GDR would develop with clothing. While likely the fictional character of
Sunny would not have so intentionally, by dressing in her modern, occasionally androgynous
outfits she was using style as a way of isolating herself from her setting. In the novel Punk In Der
Ddr: Too Much Future it is explained that the punks were no longer GDR citizens, they behaved as
if they were in London and had fled the country though still being present within it. For punks both
in the GDR and globally, fashion was an incredibly important tool to distinguish yourself from the
majority. Sunny, in spite facing judgement and the punks, in spite... Show more content on

The significance of punk in the GDR, which is already a socialist, not capitalist society is
inherently different. Many of the things British and American punks struggles with the most in
their society s where things the GDR itself assured to its citizens by granting them accessible,
state founded healthcare and education, as well as assigned job placements. In the government s
pursuit to provide a guaranteed quality of life, it increasingly extended its control into the details
of its citizens lives, leaving some, like the members of GDR punk movement, to feel as though
their autonomy of their future had been stripped from them. By the end of the film, Sunny has
gained almost complete of control over the direction of her life. She has rejected the opportunity
of returning to the stability of a factory job and has disconnected herself from her every potential
romantic partner presented in the film, making it clear she will not submit her autonomy in order
to benefit the GDR s economy or their declining population rate. In the optimistic closing scene of
Solo Sunny, her last line, I sleep with someone when I feel like it, I call a pig a pig, I m the one
who was thrown out of The Tornadoes, my name is Sunny, demonstrates she has finally become in
touch with her own reality and identity.

In the film Gladiator (Scott, 2000), there are several scenes that allow the audience to see why is
this movie considered a melodrama. The first time that the audience sees a complex scene with
elevated dialogues and mixed emotions is when Commodus murders his father the Cesar after
knowing that he would not be the successor to govern the nation. Within seconds, there is a twist

A Article About The Degenerative Joint Disease ( Djd ) Or...
This essay is aimed to critically appraise the article about comparing the effect of glucosamine and
glucosamine with alendronate in symptomatic relieve of degenerative knee joint disease (Hamid
Reza Arti Mohammad Ebrahim Azemi, 2012, p. 87 92). The study talked about the Degenerative
Joint Disease (DJD) or osteoarthritis, which is the most common destructive jointdisease and causes
of chronic disability in human beings. Osteoarthritis is often caused by aging, frequent use of knee
joints or obesity. People with osteoarthritis are normally treated by glucosamine. On the other hand,
alendronate is used to treat osteoporosis. People with osteoporosis will have brittle or fragile bones
due to deficiency in calcium or vitamin D. As both osteoarthritis and osteoporosis have higher
chances of being found in elderly patients, it might not be an unusual thing for them to exist
together in the patient at the same time. Combining glucosamine and alendronate together in the
treatment may bring out unexpected therapeutic benefits. The objective of the study is to find out
the differences between the effects of glucosamine alone and combination between glucosamine
and alendronate administration in relieving knee degeneration. The study hypothesised that
combination of glucosamine and alendronate will be more effective in treating knee degeneration.
To test the efficacy of glucosamine, a double blind randomised controlled trial (RCT) was set up. A
randomised controlled trial is a

The Argument That It s Wrong Buy Expensive Suits Essay
952655626 1. Explain Singer s argument that it s wrong to buy expensive suits. One premise in
that argument depends on the claim that it is wrong not to prevent bad if you can do so without
giving up anything of comparable moral importance. In the paper, he offers a weaker version of
that premise. What is it? Why does he think that stronger version is true? Singer s argument Let
s imagine I am in Michael Kehoe s, ready to purchase a brand new suit for $500. As I am about
to swipe my card, I see charity volunteers soliciting donations for malaria ridden Africa. They
claim: It only cost $250 to save a life from malaria! Suppose this was true and by giving my $500
to charity I would save two people from dying of malaria. However, I only have $500 and will
no longer be able to by the suit, if I donate the money towards saving malaria victims. Given this
choice, how ought one act, morally? According to Peter Singer, it would be morally wrong for
me to purchase the suit, instead of saving the lives. He offers us the following argument: (S1)
Suffering and death from lack of food, shelter, and medical care are bad, typically. (S2) If it is in
your power to prevent something bad from happening, without sacrificing anything of comparable
importance, it is wrong not to do so. (C0) If it is in your power to prevent suffering and death
from lack of food, shelter, and medical care without sacrificing anything of comparable importance,
it is wrong not to do so. (S3) It is in

The Taliban ruled Afghanistan from 1996 until 2001. The Taliban was ejected out of power by the
U.S. military and other forces in December 2001 because of the terrorist attack on the United States

Consequences Of Underage Drinking
Underage drinking has been a growing concern among the public. As society idolizes the party life
style, adolescence seem to be more encouraged to join the movement. Because the youth of todays
generations are not aware of the responsibilities that come along with drinking, they are ignorant to
the fact that there are ramification that come along with underage drinking. Though there are
factors that play along with the juvenile party trend, as a community, we must come together and be
aware of the poor results these actions can cause. Underage drinking has become an outrage; its use
among teenagers has consequences such as braindamage, addictiveness, and safety risks. Teenagers
can tend to view alcohol as a conversation starter, helping them loosen up around people; but it can
cause harsh brain damage. In spite the reality that alcohol can affect several parts of the brain while
drinking underage, the Hippocampus and the Prefrontal Lobe, are especially susceptible to alcohol
damage. Hippocampus is in control of memory and learning, Studies of adolescents show that...

Insulation Essay

Review of Literature
Insulate to cover, line, or separate with a material that prevents or reduces the passage, transfer, or
leakage of heat, electricity, or sound (Insulate ,2015, pg.1). In this experiment insulation is the main
topic. Insulation is used in many things: a house, a refrigerator, walls, clothing, and types of
drinking cups. Installation can be made of materials like styrofoam, plastic, and fiberglass. These
can be used to keep things hot or cold. Insulation is most commonly for heat and maintaining heat
energy. This experiment tests the insulation of several cups and how they keep liquids hot. Each
cup used in the experiment has some insulation. The cups have different amounts of insulation.
Each of these cups are generally used as insulators for many liquids.
Insulation slows the process of heat leaving an object. Most insulation contains lots of air spaces.
The air spaces slow the flow of heat leaving the object because the heat takes longer to travel
through the air spaces. Insulation is a material or substance that is used to stop heat, electricity, or
sound from going into or out of something (Insulation, 2015, pg. 1). Insulation is commonly

Event Registration Table
You ve spent months on end planning for your upcoming event. You ve likely thought through

points of getting everyone from Point A to Point B during event registration.
However, there are dozens of little things that will happen during registration or check in for any
event that you might not have thought of. This handy check list will help ensure you don t forget
anything essential on your big day.
Top 10 Things You ll Needat an Event Registration Table
While there may be other things that would come in handy, I believe these ten things will see you

4. POS Machines or Ability to Take Payment
How will you accept payment for last minute attendees or those who still owe money? Perhaps you
want to sell T shirts and other momentos of the event. You can either work with your bank to
gain access to a point of sale machine, or you can use a service such as Square or PayPal for these
purposes.
Both online payment services offer both card readers that will work with mobile devices such as a
smartphone or tablet, or you can login with an Internet connection and punch in the person s
information manually.
5. Extension Chords
Even though you may expect the hotel to have extension chords available so you can set up tables
and computers anywhere you need to, the truth is that there may be other events going on and a
shortage of cables to go around.
Even if you leave the extra chords in your vehicle unless you need them, it is a good idea to pack
a few extras just to be on the safe side. It will save someone having to run to a nearby hardware
store to purchase chords at the last minute.
6. Walkie Talkies
Supplying key workers with walkie talkies is a great idea during registration. Cell phones don t
always get signal inside a building, or some people may hear their cells easier than other people.
However, walkie talkies set to the same channel can allow everyone to communicate when needed.

Conspirators kill mighty Caeser
Yesterday around noon, Rome witnessed the fall of a mighty leader named Julius Caesar. The
conspirators involved in this murder were witnessed by the names of Cassius, Casca, Cinna,
Trebonius, Ligarius, Decius Brutus, Metellus Cimber and Brutus.
It was supposed to be an ordinary gathering like any other at the Capitol on March 15th, 44 B.C.E,
but things ended up turning out very differently from what was normally expected. It started out
with Caesar heading to the Senate house with all of the conspirators surrounding him. Caesar sees

This attempt quickly failed when she said that his hubris just took over. I knew that Caesar should
have stayed away from the Senate house yesterday, but I guess his pride just took over his mind, it
was just all too much, Calpurnia sobbed. This has turned out to be the most tragic moment in my
life and I hope those conspirators kneel to the gods, for they have upset the heavens with the killing
of the mightiest leader Rome has ever seen.
It wasn t just Calpurnia that was upset, Mark Antony, a good friend of Caesar, was completely
depressed and raging with anger at the same time. Those worthless blocks of stones, how could
their hearts be so dark to inflict pain on one of the most generous and good hearted people of
Rome, Mark Antony explains with tears in his eyes. They shall suffer great consequences in the
near future and only time will tell when their journey will also come to an end.
Some Romans on the other hand believed Caesar s death was a gift from the gods and portrayed a
sign of peace in Rome.
He deserved his death, he was becoming too conceited, Cassius, a main conspirator in the murder,
explains as he was walking on the streets yesterday evening.

The Mystery Of Easter Island
In Easter Island...the shadows of the departed builders still possess the land...the whole air
vibrates with a vast purpose and energy which has been and is no more. What was it? Why was
it? said Katherine Routledge, an explorer and archaeologist. People across the globe have
marveled at the wonders of Easter Island for centuries. The remains of the island are huge statues
called moai, which seemed to be an impossible feat for people of the time. Archaeologists
everywhere are gathering together facts, theories, and unanswered questions in an attempt to solve
the mystery of Easter Island.
1. Facts The people who once lived on Easter Island called themselves the Rapa Nui. The Rapa

were even described as having red hair and being sun burnt looking, and that Their bodies were
heavily tattooed, (Mysterious Places: Explore Easter Island). Easter Island has a total of 887
statues, or moai (Easter Island). Stone blocks, or sometimes said to be volcanic ash (Mysterious
Places: Explore Easter Island), were carved to be an average of 13 feet tall, 14 tons, and resembled
head and torso figures (Easter Island World Heritage Site). The largest moai, the ahu, was
destroyed (Secrets of Easter Island). Many materials were used for the statues: basalt and red scoria

The Squire s Tale Essay
The Squire s Tale
The Squire s tale ends two lines into its third section, and
following this abrupt termination is the wordes of the Frankeleyn to the
Squier. The Franklin praises the young Squire s attempt at a courtly
romance and says that he wishes his own son was more like the Squire. This
is followed by the wordes of the Hoost to the Frankeleyn. Many critics
believe that the words of the Franklin to the Squire are intended as an
interruption of the tale that threatens to go on far too long. However, I
believe the words of the Franklin to the Squire were not meant to be an
interruption at all. There are four main reasons why I believe the passage
was not meant to be an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, interrupting someone in the middle of his speech would be
something a person with gentillesse would be hesitant to do. The arguments
that the Franklin s actions were rescuing the Squire from an awkward
predicament (Specht 154) in which his tale was threatening to go on far
too long point out that in such a scenario the Franklin s actions would be
a masterpiece of tact (Spearing, 7). I would argue with this theory for
two reasons. First of all, the Squire gives no indication he wishes to be
rescued. In his tale at the end of telling of Canace and the magic ring,
he proceeds to say he will tell how the other three gifts affected the
lives of other characters. Clearly the Squire could have cut his story
short then if he had been so inclined. Therefore I do not think it is fair
to claim the Franklin was rescuing the Squire. Secondly, if the Franklin
were indeed interrupting the Squire to end his story, he could have
apologized for interrupting. Obviously the Squire has not completed his
tale, he has just announced he has three more parts and is two lines into
the telling of the next section. For the Franklin to begin speaking at
this point he would clearly be interrupting the Squire. To preserve
gentillesse it would be necessary for him to apologize for the break in.

Arguments For Self Identification
A different argument for self identification comes from an old social norm developed during the
era of slavery known as the one drop rule. This rule states that a multiracial person is assigned to
the race with the lowest social standing among the races represented. Going off of previous
history and other social norms, the hierarchy would be as follows: non Hispanic white, Asian,
Latinos, and lastly black. When forcing a youth to choose between one of their multiple races,
those with some black or Latino heritage are far more likely to report being black or Latino than
those with white or Asian heritage are to report being white or Asian (Herman 2009). Herman s
study in 2009 examines the difference in grades between students of mixed races. Her ultimate
conclusion is that self identification is the main indicating factor in academic achievement.
Students possessing black or Latino ancestry are associated with decreased grades whereas
students with white or Asian ancestry tend to do better. However, she also looked at the difference
in grades between students of the same biracial category who self identify differently. Those who
identify as Asian or white do significantly better in school than those who identify as black or
Latino. An interesting conclusion from the study shows that where there is a difference between
those who identify as Asian and those who identify as white, there is almost no difference in if the
student identifies as black or Latino. In an attempt to

classrooms. Thirteen children received intervention for 6 weeks and 7 children received

The children were interviewed to determine whom they viewed as their friends. The parents were
concurrently interviewed to glean the same information. 6 weeks later, parents were audio taped
describing the friendships of their children. Seven themes became apparent as a result of the parent
interviews: discrepancy between parent and child concept of friendship, social immaturity, social
skills deficits, compatibility, satisfaction with relationships, barriers and facilitators, and parent s
role. Three important ideas emerged in the conclusion section of this research study. First,
researchers have not considered the topic of quality of friendship of learning disabled children.
Second, when considering special education placement, it may be important to look at classroom
environment to determine if it is conducive to promoting the formation of mutual friendships.
Finally, mothers might benefit from sensitization to the need for being engaged with promoting
their learning disabled child s social relationships. (Weiner Sunohara, 1998). A fourth article
discussed learning to learn cooperatively for learning disabled students. Four questions were
considered: can social problem solving be improved for students with learning problems, will
cooperative behavior increase for students with learning problems, will metacognitive strategy
instruction in social behavior increase the interaction and socialization skills of shy as well as

transient neuroplastic like responses in motor areas of the brain (Khun et al., 2016). Neuroplasticity
refers to the capacity of the brainto reorganise itself in response to our experiences throughout life.
Typically, changes to the organization of the brain come about to support brain function. For
instance, after a spinal cord injury or stroke, the brain must adapt to allow functional recovery (Rao
et al., 2016). The recognition that the brain must change to improve function has led to several
attempts to boost neuroplasticity. Cutting edge... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, loud acoustic stimulation delivered during movement preparation (Marinovic et al.,
2014) and contraction (Chen et al., 2016) can cause intracortical modulation. While the transient
effects of loud sounds on movement facilitation (e.g. faster reaction times and increased response
vigour) are now well established (for a review see Marinovic and Tresilian, 2016), no studies have
examined whether loud sounds can aid motor function beyond the stimulation period. The new
findings reported by Khun and colleagues (2016) demonstrate that we can now add the
manipulation of the focus of attention to the list of neuromodulatory techniques with the potential
to boost motor

Gospel Of John 2 Analysis
The purpose of the Gospel of John is clearly stated in verse 20:31: But these are written that you
may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in
his name. The fourth Gospel needs to be read with that in mind, that each aspect is included to
prove the divinity of JesusChrist. The second chapter of the Gospelof John tells of two distinct
accounts; the first, turning water into wine. The second; clearing the temple. Each of these
accounts serve John s purpose as stated in 20:31. John 2:1 11 tells of the wedding in Cana. In
attendance was Jesus, his mother, Mary, and His disciples. At some point during the festivities
they ran out of wine. This was a serious offense in Jewish culture. Running out of wine would
have been humiliating and would follow the bridge and groom for the remainder of their lives. As
hosts, the family had a social obligation to provide the drink. When Mary approaches her son and
informs Him of this, Woman, why do you involve me? Jesus replied. My hour has not yet come
(2:4). The term woman here is not intended condescendingly, but a term of respect. By referring to
her as woman instead of mother He is highlighting the change in the... Show more content on

There is no mention of where in Christ s timeline this event falls, except that it was almost time
for the Jewish Passover (13). When Jesus arrived at the temple and found people selling and
exchanging money, He became infuriated. He made a whip and drove everyone from the temple.
In response, the Jews asked Him What sign can you show us to prove your authority to do all
this? (18) With this question, they were seeking justification for His actions. Jesus answered them,
Destroy this temple and I will raise it again in three days. The audience was confused, and it wasn t
until after Christ s death on the cross they realized that He meant His physical body not the temple

Multinational Corporations Vs. Small And Medium...
The fundamental goal of every company is to maximise profit to make money. That is the main
reason people create businesses whether it be the large corporations or the small and medium
enterprises (SMEs). Because of gloablisation, firms are competing in a highly competitive market
where there is increasing pressure to find ways to perform better to get that above average returns.
However, there is one thing other than economies of scale that greatly disadvantage the SMEs from
the large multinational corporations (MNCs) and that is profit shifting. First of all, MNCs are
organisations that operate in more than one country. Profit shifting is when MNCs utilise the
differences in taxlaws to shift income to low tax affiliates and... Show more content on

In a journal article by Bartelsman and Beetsma (2000), they looked at the presence of profit
shifting in response to the disparity of the corporate tax rates among several OECD countries. They
used sectoral data as a method for their analysis. They have found that the magniture of profit
shifting is sufficiently great and worthy of attention. They estimate that a one percent unilateral
increase in tax rate will result in a three percent decline in corporate tax revenues, where the
organisation s profit is unchanged. Moreover, the researchers found that having stricter enforcement
in an already high tax jurisdiction will have a negative impact on their tax revenues and that real
activity is transferred to countries with lower tax rates or more lenient enforcement.
As mentioned previously, increasing pressures of competition and the goal of making more
profits are the reasons why organisations try to find ways to minimise their costs. However, profit
shifting is done because they saw the substantial disparity of corporate tax rates among countries
and thus, an opportunity to minimise costs (Bartelsman Beetsma, 2000; Holtzblatt et al., 2015).
Exhibit 1 shows the corporate tax rates in developed countries (see Appendix). Australia s
corporate tax rate is 30%, which is the 4th highest (tied with Mexico) among OECD countries,
where it is topped by the US at 35%, France at 34.43%, and Belgium at 33%. Holtzblatt et

Dear Manger:
I am pleased to present the report you authorized on February 15, 2016, regarding the feasibility of
potential Chick fil a options for the upcoming CAT drivers party.
An analysis of both spicy chicken sandwich and grill chicken sandwich Mansion found that,
although both alternatives offered delicious options, spicy chicken sandwich better met our chosen
criteria in cost, choices, and delivery time. It is, therefore, the recommendation that we utilize spicy
chicken sandwich for our upcoming drivers Chick fil a party.
Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to research potential party choices. I appreciate your
consideration of my recommendation. Should you have any questions regarding this report, please
do not hesitate to contact me at (703) 505 5555.

Major General Petraeus s Reconstruction Efforts
A Reconstruction Effort While under Major General David Petraeus, the 101st Airborne Division
initially deployed, ready to engage insurgent forces. However, after arriving in Mosul, Iraq the
division became heavily involved in a vital reconstruction effort. General Petraeus understood
through his previous experiences that in war, reconstruction efforts are inevitable. His critical
thinking and problem solving led to a three pronged strategy to provide a secure environment, to
restore basic life services and to facilitate a return to normalcy for the citizens of Mosul. In this
paper, I will summarize how General Petraeus used critical thinking, problem solving and the

Reflection Of A Glass Window
The object I chose to draw was a stained glass window depicting the thirteenth station of the cross,
where the crucified Jesus is laid into the arms of His mother, Mary. This object is colorful and
vivid, with the people in the window image portrayed in bright colors in contrast to the background.
In addition, the people portrayed have precise naturalistic details and proportions regarding their
clothing, bodies, and facial expressions. Through the exercise of drawing this stained glasswindow
of the thirteenth station, I learned about proportionality, black space, and unification. I also learned
how the Catholic faith can relate to these different aspects of drawing. I started drawing the border
and outlines of the image; not the entire... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Otherwise, the entire image would not look right. I did not finish drawing the window because I
wanted to place the parts proportionately so as to accurately portray the window as a whole. The
window s detail did not serve as a priority in the drawing exercise because I believed the unity of
its parts was central to making it look as accurate as possible. Additionally, I learned that the
unification of the drawing s parts were necessary in drawing the window. It can be said in the
spiritual life that Jesus makes our brokenness whole and creates beauty out of it, much like how the
beauty of stained glass window only makes sense as a unified whole. I took some time in the
beginning of the drawing exercise to examine the window for a second time, which allowed me
to see that these pieces only made sense together. Yes, the pieces of stained glass are pretty by
themselves, but they only form the image of the thirteenth station when together. Examining the
stained glass window for a second time also allowed me to notice black spaces in between the
pieces of stained glass. I learned that these areas of black space not only separate each part, but are
also essential to the beauty of the window, and that drawing images is as much about using space
well as it is about detail. In an art history class I took last year, I learned that there was a period of
time where artists would use all available space on a surface out of fear of

These experiences have made me stronger and more aware of others struggles. Being varsity on

Aristotle s Value Of Happiness
Human beings spend a lifetime finding the meaning of life and what makes us happy. In Aristotle
s Nicomachean s Ethics, Aristotle gives his own wisdom to his son, Nicomachean on how to
achieve the end goal of life which is happiness. He explores this virtue of happiness through many
other characteristics and virtues. One of the characteristics, Aristotle explores for one to be happy
is moderation. Overindulgence in food, sex, and drinks can lead to dangers in one s life. To obtain
happinessand live a complete life, one must be moderate.
Aristotle asserts that moderation is a mean with respect to pleasures (Aristotle 62). Aristotle takes
into account both the body and soul when discussing pleasures. What gives a person pleasures? In
many cases, food, drinks, sex, listening to one s favorite music, and even hanging out with friends
can give someone pleasure. Overindulgence of pleasures of the body (food, drink, and sex) is
limited compared to the soul (honor and learning) which is unlimited. Aristotle makes the argument
that when a person takes enjoyment in the smelling of apples, roses, or incense (Aristotle 64) they
are not licentious since that smell could remind that person of a past encounter that could signal
desire (Aristotle 64).
Aristotle then compares human to animals with the direct reference to a lion; where a lion does
not receive desire because it smells the meat of a cow, but because the lion knows that it will take
pleasure in eating the cow s meat

Irony In A Midsummer Night s Dream
The mood within the second stanza is the complete opposite of the first stanza, where Coleridge
is no longer in the peaceful mind of sleep, rather that of a terrifying dream and thoughts in which
it wakes him up. The syntax is abrupt and short, portraying the terror and fear Coleridge is
feeling because of this new dream. The lineage also is short and packed with strong verbs, such
as burning and trampling , as well as depicting visuals of Coleridge s nightmares. Coleridge uses a
combination of alternate and couplet rhyme schemes in the second stanza, which can be
interpreted to his new current fear of sleep. Currently, sleep for Coleridge is a vast pit of his past
wrongdoings and he no longer wants to revisit them. Coleridge begins with not really praying in
comfort and silently, but aloud and in anguish and agony , almost pleading to someone to make the
nightmareand its aftermath stop. Within the third line, Coleridge delves into the nightmarish visual
of, Up starting from the fiendish crowd / of shapes and thoughts that tortured me (16 17). He is
bombarded with feelings and thoughts that won t go away, which is like slow torture to him
because sleep is forever lost to him on this night. Coleridge then begins to recollect his past with,

The meeting was a lot of fun and extremely informative about African culture. I thought it was
amazing how nice and extremely considerate all the members were. We obviously stood out being
the only white people in the meeting, but practically every officer came over and introduced

question was about where we lived. He lived in a city whereas I lived in a small town. This
brings me to believe that for the Africans that are able to move to America they live in cities do
to more money and active in modern society compared to Americans who live in a wide range of
place based on their income levels. The next question involved religion, we both answered
Christian which reveals that the setting in which we live can have a significant impact on their
religious beliefs. Then it was the lists of languages spoken in home or by members of our
families. I only had one language spoken in my house which was English. However multiple
languages were spoken in his house including English, Pidgin, and Yoruba. This reveals to me that

Socrates Unexamined Life
Socrates theory of the unexamined life would argue that that a life spent without self examination
was a life that was wasted. Socrates believed that a person should question their motives and what
they valued in life. He believed a life spent pursuing material gain or power was a life that was not
a life well spent. Instead Socratesbelieved that a person should constantly be looking inward.
They should question their motives and better themselves by correcting any motives or actions
that are not pure. To Socrates the noblest pursuit in life was the quest for knowledge. He wanted
people to question what they knew and search for answers for that which they did not know.
While I agree with most of Socrates ideas on the unexamined life I do not agree that an
unexamined life is wasted. I agree with Socrates that we should constantly be looking to better

There are several reasons for my position on this. First, it is very possible for a person to live an
unselfish life without self examination. For example we have no idea if Florence Nightingale
spent time examining her own life. Yet, even if she spent no time on self examination I believe
she still would have been a great person. I believe some people are motivated by a desire to help
others that does not require them to examine their own lives to motivate them to do good. While
conversely it is possible for an evil person to understand what their motivations and desires are,
while doing nothing at all to better themselves. If self examination does anything it maximizes a
person s potential. An unexamined life can be considered a full life that accomplished many great
things, but it is likely that if the person had spent time examining their life they could have
accomplished even more. I think it would be better to say that an unexamined life is one that did
not reach its full

The choice to leave the EU has pushed the UK into uncharted trading territory. The main alternative

Britain have got themselves in a messy situation but the way forward is not. There are few
alternatives they can choose from. One of the options is the Norway option, the Norway option

The Norway model will also mean that Britain becoming members of two key European

The Story of the Ballad
Two sisters go down to a river and sometimes the sea. The older one drowns the youngest by
pushing her in. Her motive is that they are both being courted by a man and he is cheating on both.
Sometimes there is a third sister but she plays no part in the actual story. When the younger sisters
body surfaces there is usually an instrumental part that is used to depict what she looks like and
how she is still beautiful. The instrument then sings about the murder, and the elder sister is
publicly revealed as the murderess. However sometimes this part is omitted or changed so that a
robber is punished for robbing the girl s corpse and the older sister gets away.

Stakeholder Salience
Introduction
Developing a relationship between and across organizations and its stakeholders can be
counterproductive and interdependent to decision making. Globalization effects stakeholder s
coalition building and salience in organizations. It is known as an ongoing process or interrelated
events of increasing movement of services, goods, and capital across national borders (Lawrence
Weber 2011). Stakeholders across organizations build coalitions as a means of increasing salience.

Implementing and integrating this action plan could lead to a social and economic benefit with
their mission, while collaborating and working together could potentially and successfully increase
and fulfill intended goals.
For example when a particular stakeholder group demand urgent attention to a specific issue, the
importance of the group creates managerial action and creates high salience, which takes a leading
role in decision making toward corporate goals and social responsibility (Mishra Suar, 2010).
Furthermore, in order to achieve established corporate goals, best practice mitigation depends on
the understanding and decision making of the demand and supply chain as well as the interests of
the stakeholders. The success of corporate mitigation relies on the balancing of the wants and needs
of the salience groups.
Globalization affected stakeholder coalition building
Globalization can affect stakeholder coalition building either negatively or positively. Caughlin
noted that the level of communication from the overall result of a stakeholder or group of
stakeholder s significantly influence the relative power and conviction for a particular outcome
which will greatly affect the costs of the decision making process as well as time (Caughlan, 2002).

Dual Process Theory Case Study
1.2.Dual Process Theory:
In this study, I mostly adopt the two systems theory from the work of Kahneman and Tversky
(1972, 1973, 1974, 1979, 1982, 1983, 2011). Firstly, we will go through some previous notable
dual process theories. Then we shall discuss more in depth Kahneman s two systems theory.
1.2.1.Previous Theories:
William James set the foundations for dual process theory. He theorized that there were two
different types of thinking, empirical thought for complex things and associative one for
comparison or abstractions. These types of thinking were later developed into the two system theory.
Evans (1984) proposed dual process theory, suggesting two distinct thought processes: heuristic and
analytic. During heuristic processes, an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Introduction The National Aeronautics and Space Administration Goddard Institute for Space

warming has always been correlated by the increasing amount of greenhouse gases, which carbon

With this objective, the author thinks that there is a need to empirically determine the impact of
macroeconomic determinants on carbon dioxide emissions.
Significance Oftentimes, human nature dictates us to spur the most from what we have, thus, it is
natural for greed and tunnel vision for growth to be in the minds of many businessmen,
policymakers, or any citizen in the population. However, in many cases, these men fail to recognise
that more than monetary costs, many of human actions entail environmental repercussions. The
significance of this study can be derived from the essence of the variables that are going to be used
in this study. Gross domestic product, foreign direct investment, exports, imports, energy use, and
urban population relates with economic development. On the other hand, carbon dioxide emissions
in this study, relates to environmental sustainability. Given these two, the study will give the reader
insights, more or less, on how the Philippine population treats economic development along side
environmental sustainability. Through the individual effects of the independent variables, we can
infer not only about what those variables contribute to carbon dioxide emissions, but also see the
level of environmental awareness that the population injects while inspiring development in the
country.
With the completion of the paper, we are bringing in practicality and the picture of reality that the
Philippine economy and its society is

Difference Between Fixed And Fixed Cost
Fixed Cost:
Fixed cost as the name suggests implies any cost that remains fixed or does not change due to an
increase or decrease in the amount of services or goods produced. It is a periodic cost that remains
unchanged irrespective of the sales revenue or output, such as depreciation, insurance, wages,
salaries, etc.
The concept of fixed cost is used in short term accounting.
Fixed costs are those expenses that are necessary to be paid by a company, independent of any
business activity that is does. It is one of the two components of the total cost of a good or service,
along with variable cost. Fixed costs are not fixed permanently; they change over time, but they
are fixed in relation to the overall production quantity for the relevant period. For example, a
company may be having unexpected expenses not related to production; and warehouse costs and

Suppose a company has to pay $10,000 each month if it wants to cover the cost of the lease but it is
not able to manufacture anything during the month, the lease payment still remains due in full.
In economics, if a business wants to achieve economies of scale, it must produce enough goods
to spread fixed costs. For example, the $100,000 lease spread out over 100,000 widgets implies that
each widget carries $1 in fixed costs. If the company produces 200,000 widgets, the fixed cost per
unit would drop to 50 cents.
Why it Matters:
If a company has large amount of fixed costs, it has less predictable per unit profit margins than a
company having relatively large amount of variable

Federal Education Policy
According to Bredekamp (2014), Federal education policy is often designed to hold schools
accountable for educating every child and to close the achievement gap between groups of children
(p.183). Federal policies have many affects on child development. There are certain policies that
mandate that schools are held accountable for students test scores. Teachers and staff are expected
to reform their curriculums in order to raise scores. Not only do the policies have an effect on
children, but the teachers as well. Within the policies protocols and standards are created to ensure
that children learn through experiences and critical thinking to attain academic enhancement. For
policymakers, it is important to promote healthy development,... Show more content on

The policies can have positive affects as well as negative effects. The regulations that are
implemented within school standards can be rewarding to students and their academic scores. High
quality education becomes effective and supportive to the needs of the students and their families.
It is always important to continue reforming these policies because education and learning evolves
overtime. This proves reasoning with the new laws that are coming in effect as well as

Being An Fbi Agent, Criminal And A Proficient Street Racer
All the years of being an FBI agent, criminal and a proficient street racer, I ve realized that life s
too short to not live it with the people you love. Before anything reckless happens again, I m
buying a beach house in the Turks and Caicos far away from any trouble, hoping that Dom will
come and join us. The whole crew went their separate ways, Roman is traveling the world, while
Tej and Ramsay settled down in Abu Dhabi. Everything is exactly how they should be. Knowing
that Mia is pregnant has astonished me inside and out. The feeling is great, that I m about to
start my own family. But the only thing keeping me back is leaving my old life behind, and
growing up. Dom has been my practically my brother since seven years ago and I can t leave all
that behind, I m just not ready. We ve been through so much and I ll admit, I ll miss all the
bullets, the prisons, fighting Braga and Shaw. But from today on, no more fighting, no more
racing, no more crimes just continuing the life I haven t started yet. It s a bright sunny
afternoon, me and Mia had just landed our flight and headed down to our new beach house. Jack
loves it, we re planning on teaching him how to surf and to get his classes because he quite
enjoys it. Dom and Letty are flying in after the baby arrives, so me and Mia has nine months all
to ourselves. I look out the window and see Mia and Jack playing in the waters together, happily.
The thought of street racing came back to my head, I miss it so much. It s

Kyphoplasty Case Study
On 4/19/18 I met Mr. McDonald at the office of Dr. Rampersaud. Mr. McDonald reports that he
is about 50% better with the Lyrica; he rates his pain at a 7. He is tender to touch over the
bilateral Si joints and has pain to the L1 spine area. He reports he has been taking one Norco at
night to help with his sleep. We again discussed the Kyphoplasty. Mr. McDonald told Dr.
Rampersaud that he is being sent to see Dr. Palavali for a 2nd opinion regarding the
Kyphoplasty. He said he has had surgery in the past with Dr. Palavali and trust him. In the
meantime Dr. Rampersaud told him that is he wants to proceed he could always put this through
his personal health insurance and move forward on the Kyphoplasty. Mr. McDonald said he
really doesn t do anything at home; his wife won t let him pick up a bag or anything. He feels
very weak. Dr. Rampersaud said he has let himself get de conditioned. I remind him of the physical

Breaking Bad is the Single Dominating Modern-day...
When it comes to shows on television today, many of the series that air aren t anything to go
crazy over, yet this definitely isn t the case for creator Vince Gilligan s, Breaking Bad. Breaking
Bad follows the life of Walter White (played by Bryan Cranston), an ordinary high school
chemistry teacher. With a loving wife and teenage son at home, over time, Walter has formed an
exceedingly mundane routine for his life. After soon discovering that he had been diagnosed with
inoperable lung cancer, Walter decided to take extreme measures in order to secure his family
financially: he would descend into a world so dark and so utterly twisted, that it would eventually
consume him. Walter White became Heisenberg; the greatest drug lord the... Show more content on

From Outstanding Lead Actor to Outstanding Supporting Actress the dozens of awards the series
crew was able to wrack up serves as a clear indicator that Vince Gilligan did a noteworthy job of
selecting a first rate line of actors and actresses. By doing so, he was able to successfully execute
the vision he sought out for Breaking Bad. As viewers watch addicting episode after addicting
episode, the show progresses to straddle a line of reality and, Is that really happening? With
countless events occurring within the series that appear to be too grotesque or twisted to even
be possible, viewers must keep in mind that many of the tactful operations Breaking Bad s
protagonist executed were backed with science. In aims to retain a factor of realistic science
throughout the series, Gilligan employed several science advisers. These advisers aided writers in
implementing accurate scientific terminology in their scripts, assisted set builders in creating
functional laboratories for meth cooking, and guided Gilligan as he built his storyline to weasel
Walter and Jesse out of trouble by utilizing science. Although some scenes had a tendency to
exaggerate the discipline for dramatic purposes, a baseline of science is always discernible.
Breaking Bad s ability to exploit the field of science by dissolving human bodies in acid, inducing
unexplainable death through ricin administration, and employing phosphine gas to kill off drug
dealers, are realistic

The Effects Of Children With Learning Disabilities On...
Life in a family that has a child with a learning disability is often both complex and challenging.
There are generally many practical as well as emotional issues involved. Many things have to be
considered such as educational, medical, and financial decisions. There are many issues that may
arise from having a child with a learning disabilitysuch as familystress, parenting discrepancies,
negative reactions from extended familymembers, difficulty in interacting with the school, and
mixed effects upon siblings (Dyson, 2010). In this essay I will discuss the main points of Dyson s
article, Unanticipated effects of children with learning disabilities on their families, things I learned
from the article, potential challenges and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The article describes the results of these other studies as being inconsistent. This is because the
other studies state that there are higher levels of stress in families with children having disabilities
than those that do not. A study conducted by Dyson found that despite higher degrees of stress,
families of children with developmental disabilities experienced the same level of family
cohesion, maintenance of the family system, and emphasis on personal growth as families of
nondisabled children (Dyson, 2010). These studies regarding how disabilities affect the family
have conflicting results therefore Dyson wanted to know if similar results would be found in a
study conducted with families that have learning disabled children. The study that was conducted
tested the hypotheses that having a child that is learning disabled will have a negative effect on
family life and on siblings in particular. The study was conducted through the use of focus groups
which conducted in depth group interviews and consisted of ten families represented by eleven
parents. The results of the study concluded that parents suffered guilt, family stress, as well as
martial tension. There were also parents blaming each other as well as issues in regards to
parenting styles. In regards to extended family support many parents felt that other

John Williams Influence On Music
Could you imagine Jaws or Star Wars without their award winning music scores? These particular
films follow a distinct successful trend having to do with the iconic duo: director Steven Spielberg
and film composer John Williams, who have also worked together on E.T. the Extra Terrestrial,
Jurassic Park, the Indiana Jones movies, and countless other famous movie titles. Musicis the world
s most universal language. By itself, it can invoke emotions and create topics of discussion, but
music influences movies more than people think. Music in movies is extremely effective and can
help establish the tone and mood of any scene or setting with, speed and slow time even with no
music, help the audience characterize and connect with characters, and involve and affect the
audience mentally and emotionally.
When put to film, music can help establish the tone and mood for any setting. Music can
especially help distinguish the type of film. For example, comedic movies typically have more
ridiculous, fast paced, cartoon like music while romantic films may have more orchestral and
lyrical music. The tone of a scene can be emphasized as well. Eerie, dark music played during an
intense scene will build tension, but a celebration s music will be kept light hearted to show the
atmosphere of the event. Music ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Film score composers use familiar elements that the general public have grown up with. For
example, many people find children s songs terrifying. This is often taken advantage of and
horror film directors use warped lullabies to feed off fear which in turn, intensifies the scenes.
Music can also be used in symbolizing the importance of certain events or the music itself can be
a symbol: a song on the radio that played just before a car accident can trigger any survivors if
they hear it again or a mother and father fall in love again when they hear the song they danced to

What Are the Challenges That Face a Psychotherapist...
What are the challenges that face a psychotherapist working with self harm or eating disorders.
She cuts herself. Never too deep, never enough to die. But enough to feel the pain. Enough to feel

mirror, a bleeding fist, a silver blade against a wrist, tears falling down to lips unkissed, she s not
the kind you ll come to miss. (http://xxdailydreamxx.tripod.com/id16.html) I took this poem from

This perhaps would be something that could be worked on in therapy. It was also suggested that
some people self harm as a way of communicating or expressing things they cannot speak. It is
suggested when self abuse is used in this mannor it is considered manipulative an attempt at
getting a need met or to influence another. If this is the case it is important for the therapist to
listen to what that need is and to help the individual satisfy that need in a constructive and
effective manner I imagine the therapists first challenge when presented with an individual who
self harms is creating a space where the client can trust the therapist. I can imagine an individual
who self harms will carry a large level of guilt and shame at the behaviour and it is as always
vital to move at a pace the client is comfortable with. If I am aware of marks or cuts before the
client has disclosed to me I will wait until the client feels safe or I feel is ready to talk about the
behaviour. Often the client will not have appropriate support systems for whatever reason which
puts them in a very vulnerable position. I would never suggest a no self harm contract as I feel
that would create too much pressure. It is important to remember that the behaviour is the adapted
coping strategy for this individual and on some level it provides some release or comfort and the

1)Flexion happens when a decrease in the angle between two body segments happens like in the
shoulder, elbow, hips and kneejoints. An example could be when using a dumbbell of 10 pounds to
curl the biceps, flexion takes place at the elbow.
2) Extension its increases in the angle of two body segments. A great example is performing triceps

extended.
3) Abduction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Inward rotation occurs when the body segments move towards the midline, and outward rotation
occurs when the body segments move away from the midline. A great example is, rotation of the
neck it could be inwards or outwards, creating slow movements around the neck.
6) Circumduction is the sequential combination of movements outlining a geometric cone. An
example of this is a circular arm movement as a warm up in which the arms are moving forward
and backward.
One example of an exercise using a combination of several of these movements together is jumping
squats with free weights. This exercise targets the lower body, core and also the upper body. The
quadriceps, the hamstrings, the gluteal, the lower back and the abdominals. The back muscle act as
stabilizers to keep the body in a correct balance position. In the explosion phase, hip extends in a
slight adduction knee extension and ankle plantar flexion. During the landing phase, back into the
squat position, all the muscle is in an eccentric position, the hip flexion with slight abduction, knee
flexion, and ankle dorsiflexion. Jumping squats with weights are just one of the extended workouts
that utilize these principles. It is very important to understand the fundamental movements of major
body segments in order to design and execute appropriate workout for my clients and their personal

Percent Yield Of Hydrochloric Acid
In this today s lab, Percent Yield of Hydrogen Gas from Magnesium and Hydrochloric Acid, the
purpose is to study the stoichiometry of H2 produced from the reaction between magnesium (Mg)
and hydrochloric acid (HCl). The chemical equation for this reaction is Mg +2HCl MgCl2 + H2. It
was predicted that 0.0029 moles of hydrogen gas would be formed from 0.07g of magnesiummetal
and 10 mL of hydrochloric acid. The hypothesis was proven correct based on an actual yield of
0.00299 moles of hydrogen gas. We know this because after measuring the volume and pressure of
our results, we used the Ideal Gas Law Equation to calculate the number of moles. We also
calculated the percent yield by dividing the experimental number of moles of hydrogen gas

Antliff And Leighten Summary
In Primitive, Mark Antliff and Patricia Leighten argue that in various topics, primitive can either
have positive or negative connotations. They also specify that the term is not a classification but
rather a comparison to its inverse: civilized. Antliff and Leighten explicitly discuss its use in the
fields of time and space, gender, race and class to support their argument. Using primitive in the
context of time and space is the most simplistic of their examples, as they say that primitive is
plainly to be constant and in tune with the wilderness. Its opposite, civilized, is likewise defined as
to advance and expand. Antliff and Leighten give examples of that an artist who is primitive can

Such a primitive artist may live in a different time frame or geographic location than than the
reference civilized artist. They then play with the idea that the two genders can be described as
primitive and civilized. Antliff and Leighten say that females are generally depicted as the primitive
gender, and males to be the civilized gender. They explain that females are regarded this way
because it was thought that women were more in tune with nature through their ability to ensure the
continuity of the human race. Young British women however, had lost some of their primitiveness
and had become more civilized, losing their libido. This forced some British men to seek women
that were not from their country, or even continent, to find women that were more primitive and
thus more sensual. These women were more primitive because as Antliff and Leighten explain

The Mask Of Teiresias In Oedipus The King
We chose to make a mask of Teiresias, who was a blind man and very wise. At the beginning of
the play, he tells Oedipus that he is the murderer of the previous king, Laius, that is causing the
hardships for Thebes including various plagues. We decided to make the mask half blind to
symbolize how Oedipus sees Teiresias even though he is the most blind because of not knowing
his own past and its effects. The black eye represents Tiresias actual blindness while still
possessing the ability to see what really happened in Oedipusearlier life. The red flower symbol is
to represent Teiresias power of knowing the king s past while Oedipus is oblivious to it. The swirl

  • 2. Punk In Der Ddr Analysis This display of the potential of fashion as expression directly correlates with the relationship that the punk scene of the GDR would develop with clothing. While likely the fictional character of Sunny would not have so intentionally, by dressing in her modern, occasionally androgynous outfits she was using style as a way of isolating herself from her setting. In the novel Punk In Der Ddr: Too Much Future it is explained that the punks were no longer GDR citizens, they behaved as if they were in London and had fled the country though still being present within it. For punks both in the GDR and globally, fashion was an incredibly important tool to distinguish yourself from the majority. Sunny, in spite facing judgement and the punks, in spite... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The significance of punk in the GDR, which is already a socialist, not capitalist society is inherently different. Many of the things British and American punks struggles with the most in their society s where things the GDR itself assured to its citizens by granting them accessible, state founded healthcare and education, as well as assigned job placements. In the government s pursuit to provide a guaranteed quality of life, it increasingly extended its control into the details of its citizens lives, leaving some, like the members of GDR punk movement, to feel as though their autonomy of their future had been stripped from them. By the end of the film, Sunny has gained almost complete of control over the direction of her life. She has rejected the opportunity of returning to the stability of a factory job and has disconnected herself from her every potential romantic partner presented in the film, making it clear she will not submit her autonomy in order to benefit the GDR s economy or their declining population rate. In the optimistic closing scene of Solo Sunny, her last line, I sleep with someone when I feel like it, I call a pig a pig, I m the one who was thrown out of The Tornadoes, my name is Sunny, demonstrates she has finally become in touch with her own reality and identity. ... This essay is aimed to critically appraise the article about comparing the effect of glucosamine and glucosamine with alendronate in symptomatic relieve of degenerative knee joint disease (Hamid Reza Arti Mohammad Ebrahim Azemi, 2012, p. 87 92). The study talked about the Degenerative Joint Disease (DJD) or osteoarthritis, which is the most common destructive jointdisease and causes of chronic disability in human beings. Osteoarthritis is often caused by aging, frequent use of knee joints or obesity. People with osteoarthritis are normally treated by glucosamine. On the other hand, alendronate is used to treat osteoporosis. People with osteoporosis will have brittle or fragile bones due to deficiency in calcium or vitamin D. As both osteoarthritis and osteoporosis have higher chances of being found in elderly patients, it might not be an unusual thing for them to exist together in the patient at the same time. Combining glucosamine and alendronate together in the treatment may bring out unexpected therapeutic benefits. The objective of the study is to find out the differences between the effects of glucosamine alone and combination between glucosamine and alendronate administration in relieving knee degeneration. The study hypothesised that combination of glucosamine and alendronate will be more effective in treating knee degeneration. To test the efficacy of glucosamine, a double blind randomised controlled trial (RCT) was set up. A randomised controlled trial is a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. The Argument That It s Wrong Buy Expensive Suits Essay 952655626 1. Explain Singer s argument that it s wrong to buy expensive suits. One premise in that argument depends on the claim that it is wrong not to prevent bad if you can do so without giving up anything of comparable moral importance. In the paper, he offers a weaker version of that premise. What is it? Why does he think that stronger version is true? Singer s argument Let s imagine I am in Michael Kehoe s, ready to purchase a brand new suit for $500. As I am about to swipe my card, I see charity volunteers soliciting donations for malaria ridden Africa. They claim: It only cost $250 to save a life from malaria! Suppose this was true and by giving my $500 to charity I would save two people from dying of malaria. However, I only have $500 and will no longer be able to by the suit, if I donate the money towards saving malaria victims. Given this choice, how ought one act, morally? According to Peter Singer, it would be morally wrong for me to purchase the suit, instead of saving the lives. He offers us the following argument: (S1) Suffering and death from lack of food, shelter, and medical care are bad, typically. (S2) If it is in your power to prevent something bad from happening, without sacrificing anything of comparable importance, it is wrong not to do so. As society idolizes the party life style, adolescence seem to be more encouraged to join the movement. Insulation Essay Diana Flatsoussis Review of Literature Insulate to cover, line, or separate with a material that prevents or reduces the passage, transfer, or leakage of heat, electricity, or sound (Insulate ,2015, pg.1). In this experiment insulation is the main topic. Insulation is used in many things: a house, a refrigerator, walls, clothing, and types of drinking cups. Installation can be made of materials like styrofoam, plastic, and fiberglass. These can be used to keep things hot or cold. Insulation is most commonly for heat and maintaining heat energy. This experiment tests the insulation of several cups and how they keep liquids hot. Each cup used in the experiment has some insulation. The cups have different amounts of insulation. Each of these cups are generally used as insulators for many liquids. Insulation slows the process of heat leaving an object. Most insulation contains lots of air spaces. The air spaces slow the flow of heat leaving the object because the heat takes longer to travel through the air spaces. The Franklin praises the young Squire s attempt at a courtly romance and says that he wishes his own son was more like the Squire. This is followed by the wordes of the Hoost to the Frankeleyn. Many critics believe that the words of the Franklin to the Squire are intended as an interruption of the tale that threatens to go on far too long. The arguments that the Franklin s actions were rescuing the Squire from an awkward predicament (Specht 154) in which his tale was threatening to go on far too long point out that in such a scenario the Franklin s actions would be a masterpiece of tact (Spearing, 7). I would argue with this theory for two reasons. First of all, the Squire gives no indication he wishes to be rescued. This rule states that a multiracial person is assigned to the race with the lowest social standing among the races represented. Going off of previous history and other social norms, the hierarchy would be as follows: non Hispanic white, Asian, Latinos, and lastly black. When forcing a youth to choose between one of their multiple races, those with some black or Latino heritage are far more likely to report being black or Latino than those with white or Asian heritage are to report being white or Asian (Herman 2009). Herman s study in 2009 examines the difference in grades between students of mixed races. Her ultimate conclusion is that self identification is the main indicating factor in academic achievement. Students possessing black or Latino ancestry are associated with decreased grades whereas students with white or Asian ancestry tend to do better. However, she also looked at the difference in grades between students of the same biracial category who self identify differently. Those who identify as Asian or white do significantly better in school than those who identify as black or Latino. Thirteen children received intervention for 6 weeks and 7 children received intervention for 12 weeks. The remaining 25 children were in the control group, which received no intervention. The intervention consisted of the SST and AST programs. These programs were designed to facilitate social problem solving, role playing, and modeling of appropriate social behavior. Seven themes became apparent as a result of the parent interviews: discrepancy between parent and child concept of friendship, social immaturity, social skills deficits, compatibility, satisfaction with relationships, barriers and facilitators, and parent s role. Three important ideas emerged in the conclusion section of this research study. First, researchers have not considered the topic of quality of friendship of learning disabled children. Second, when considering special education placement, it may be important to look at classroom environment to determine if it is conducive to promoting the formation of mutual friendships. Finally, mothers might benefit from sensitization to the need for being engaged with promoting their learning disabled child s social relationships. (Weiner Sunohara, 1998). A fourth article discussed learning to learn cooperatively for learning disabled students. Four questions were considered: can social problem solving be improved for students with learning problems, will cooperative behavior increase for students with learning problems, will metacognitive strategy instruction in social behavior increase the interaction and socialization skills of shy as well as popular students, and ... So tired that you simply don t just want to run away, but also disappear? In some point in our lives, we go through this and hit rock bottom. We feel as if our family and friends will be better off without us and they perhaps wouldn t even miss you. But let me ask you this if you don t like something about yourself then why not change? One gloomy day I was on my newsfeed on Instagram, giggling at some memes to drooling on some photos of Jensen Ackles, until something caught my attention. Back then, I thought being emotionless was better than being a bitter child. The things that would make me feel bitter or hurt my feelings would no longer have an affect one me. Here s the thing, though, if I were to take my vulnerability away, I would also be taking away all my emotions from sadness to happiness to gratitude. I would go back to looking for a purpose in my life. I still struggle embracing my vulnerable side, but I know its part of life and what makes us human beings. Neuroplasticity In The Brain This editorial concerns an interesting paper, recently published in Acta Physiologica, showing evidence that the focus of attention internal or external during execution of a motor task can cause transient neuroplastic like responses in motor areas of the brain (Khun et al., 2016). Neuroplasticity refers to the capacity of the brainto reorganise itself in response to our experiences throughout life. Typically, changes to the organization of the brain come about to support brain function. For instance, after a spinal cord injury or stroke, the brain must adapt to allow functional recovery (Rao et al., 2016). The recognition that the brain must change to improve function has led to several attempts to boost neuroplasticity. Cutting edge... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gospel Of John 2 Analysis The purpose of the Gospel of John is clearly stated in verse 20:31: But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. The fourth Gospel needs to be read with that in mind, that each aspect is included to prove the divinity of JesusChrist. The second chapter of the Gospelof John tells of two distinct accounts; the first, turning water into wine. The second; clearing the temple. Each of these accounts serve John s purpose as stated in 20:31. John 2:1 11 tells of the wedding in Cana. In attendance was Jesus, his mother, Mary, and His disciples. At some point during the festivities they ran out of wine. This was a serious offense in Jewish culture. Running out of wine would have been humiliating and would follow the bridge and groom for the remainder of their lives. As hosts, the family had a social obligation to provide the drink. When Mary approaches her son and informs Him of this, Woman, why do you involve me? Jesus replied. My hour has not yet come (2:4). • 25. Multinational Corporations Vs. Small And Medium... The fundamental goal of every company is to maximise profit to make money. That is the main reason people create businesses whether it be the large corporations or the small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Because of gloablisation, firms are competing in a highly competitive market where there is increasing pressure to find ways to perform better to get that above average returns. However, there is one thing other than economies of scale that greatly disadvantage the SMEs from the large multinational corporations (MNCs) and that is profit shifting. First of all, MNCs are organisations that operate in more than one country. Profit shifting is when MNCs utilise the differences in taxlaws to shift income to low tax affiliates and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In a journal article by Bartelsman and Beetsma (2000), they looked at the presence of profit shifting in response to the disparity of the corporate tax rates among several OECD countries. They used sectoral data as a method for their analysis. They have found that the magniture of profit shifting is sufficiently great and worthy of attention. They estimate that a one percent unilateral increase in tax rate will result in a three percent decline in corporate tax revenues, where the organisation s profit is unchanged. Moreover, the researchers found that having stricter enforcement in an already high tax jurisdiction will have a negative impact on their tax revenues and that real activity is transferred to countries with lower tax rates or more lenient enforcement. As mentioned previously, increasing pressures of competition and the goal of making more profits are the reasons why organisations try to find ways to minimise their costs. However, profit shifting is done because they saw the substantial disparity of corporate tax rates among countries and thus, an opportunity to minimise costs (Bartelsman Beetsma, 2000; Holtzblatt et al., 2015). Exhibit 1 shows the corporate tax rates in developed countries (see Appendix). In addition, the people portrayed have precise naturalistic details and proportions regarding their clothing, bodies, and facial expressions. Additionally, I learned that the unification of the drawing s parts were necessary in drawing the window. It can be said in the spiritual life that Jesus makes our brokenness whole and creates beauty out of it, much like how the beauty of stained glass window only makes sense as a unified whole. I took some time in the beginning of the drawing exercise to examine the window for a second time, which allowed me to see that these pieces only made sense together. Yes, the pieces of stained glass are pretty by themselves, but they only form the image of the thirteenth station when together. Examining the stained glass window for a second time also allowed me to notice black spaces in between the pieces of stained glass. I learned that these areas of black space not only separate each part, but are also essential to the beauty of the window, and that drawing images is as much about using space well as it is about detail. • 31. Aristotle s Value Of Happiness Human beings spend a lifetime finding the meaning of life and what makes us happy. In Aristotle s Nicomachean s Ethics, Aristotle gives his own wisdom to his son, Nicomachean on how to achieve the end goal of life which is happiness. He explores this virtue of happiness through many other characteristics and virtues. One of the characteristics, Aristotle explores for one to be happy is moderation. Overindulgence in food, sex, and drinks can lead to dangers in one s life. To obtain happinessand live a complete life, one must be moderate. Aristotle asserts that moderation is a mean with respect to pleasures (Aristotle 62). Aristotle takes into account both the body and soul when discussing pleasures. What gives a person pleasures? In many cases, food, drinks, sex, listening to one s favorite music, and even hanging out with friends can give someone pleasure. Overindulgence of pleasures of the body (food, drink, and sex) is limited compared to the soul (honor and learning) which is unlimited. Aristotle makes the argument that when a person takes enjoyment in the smelling of apples, roses, or incense (Aristotle 64) they are not licentious since that smell could remind that person of a past encounter that could signal desire (Aristotle 64). Aristotle then compares human to animals with the direct reference to a lion; where a lion does not receive desire because it smells the meat of a cow, but because the lion knows that it will take pleasure in eating the cow s meat ... Irony In A Midsummer Night s Dream The mood within the second stanza is the complete opposite of the first stanza, where Coleridge is no longer in the peaceful mind of sleep, rather that of a terrifying dream and thoughts in which it wakes him up. The syntax is abrupt and short, portraying the terror and fear Coleridge is feeling because of this new dream. The lineage also is short and packed with strong verbs, such as burning and trampling , as well as depicting visuals of Coleridge s nightmares. Coleridge uses a combination of alternate and couplet rhyme schemes in the second stanza, which can be interpreted to his new current fear of sleep. Currently, sleep for Coleridge is a vast pit of his past wrongdoings and he no longer wants to revisit them. Coleridge begins with not really praying in comfort and silently, but aloud and in anguish and agony , almost pleading to someone to make the nightmareand its aftermath stop. Within the third line, Coleridge delves into the nightmarish visual of, Up starting from the fiendish crowd / of shapes and thoughts that tortured me (16 17). Socrates believed that a person should question their motives and what they valued in life. He believed a life spent pursuing material gain or power was a life that was not a life well spent. Instead Socratesbelieved that a person should constantly be looking inward. They should question their motives and better themselves by correcting any motives or actions that are not pure. To Socrates the noblest pursuit in life was the quest for knowledge. He wanted people to question what they knew and search for answers for that which they did not know. I believe some people are motivated by a desire to help others that does not require them to examine their own lives to motivate them to do good. While conversely it is possible for an evil person to understand what their motivations and desires are, while doing nothing at all to better themselves. If self examination does anything it maximizes a person s potential. • 42. William Deresiewicz s Essay The End Of Solitude In his 2009 essay, The End of Solitude, writer William Deresiewicz offers his insight and opinion on what effect technology has on society. He specifically addresses the impact of text messaging and social networking. Deresiewicz argues heavily that because of their prolific use, cellphones and the connectedness they offer have eliminated not only the ability to, but the desire to disconnect and seek solitude. That is, people cannot and do not want to be without having access. In order to establish an understanding, Deresiewicz describes what solitude meant to people throughout the ages. He explains that while man is social in nature, solitude is valued highly, or so it used to be. Technology is taking away privacy, concentration and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Determinants of Carbon Dioxide Emissions in the... Introduction The National Aeronautics and Space Administration Goddard Institute for Space Studies (2014) states that global surface temperature in 2013 was +0.6В°C (~1.1В°F) warmer than the 1951 1980 base period average, thus the seventh warmest year in the GISS analysis. Global warming has always been correlated by the increasing amount of greenhouse gases, which carbon dioxideis notoriously known for, in the Earth s atmosphere. Many environmental activists are putting pressures to every facet of society and making them aware about the harm of the continuously increasing carbon dioxide emission that the world is experiencing. The Philippines is already starting to experience sudden extreme changes in its climate and natural disasters... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With this objective, the author thinks that there is a need to empirically determine the impact of macroeconomic determinants on carbon dioxide emissions. Significance Oftentimes, human nature dictates us to spur the most from what we have, thus, it is natural for greed and tunnel vision for growth to be in the minds of many businessmen, policymakers, or any citizen in the population. However, in many cases, these men fail to recognise that more than monetary costs, many of human actions entail environmental repercussions. The significance of this study can be derived from the essence of the variables that are going to be used in this study. Gross domestic product, foreign direct investment, exports, imports, energy use, and urban population relates with economic development. On the other hand, carbon dioxide emissions in this study, relates to environmental sustainability. Given these two, the study will give the reader insights, more or less, on how the Philippine population treats economic development along side environmental sustainability. Through the individual effects of the independent variables, we can infer not only about what those variables contribute to carbon dioxide emissions, but also see the level of environmental awareness that the population injects while inspiring development in the country. With the completion of the paper, we are bringing in practicality and the picture of reality that the Philippine economy and its society is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Difference Between Fixed And Fixed Cost Fixed Cost: Fixed cost as the name suggests implies any cost that remains fixed or does not change due to an increase or decrease in the amount of services or goods produced. It is a periodic cost that remains unchanged irrespective of the sales revenue or output, such as depreciation, insurance, wages, salaries, etc. The concept of fixed cost is used in short term accounting. Fixed costs are those expenses that are necessary to be paid by a company, independent of any business activity that is does. It is one of the two components of the total cost of a good or service, along with variable cost. Fixed costs are not fixed permanently; they change over time, but they are fixed in relation to the overall production quantity for the relevant period. For example, a company may be having unexpected expenses not related to production; and warehouse costs and costs like that are fixed only over the time period of the lease. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Suppose a company has to pay $10,000 each month if it wants to cover the cost of the lease but it is not able to manufacture anything during the month, the lease payment still remains due in full. In economics, if a business wants to achieve economies of scale, it must produce enough goods to spread fixed costs. For example, the $100,000 lease spread out over 100,000 widgets implies that each widget carries $1 in fixed costs. If the company produces 200,000 widgets, the fixed cost per unit would drop to 50 cents. Why it Matters: If a company has large amount of fixed costs, it has less predictable per unit profit margins than a company having relatively large amount of variable ... These particular films follow a distinct successful trend having to do with the iconic duo: director Steven Spielberg and film composer John Williams, who have also worked together on E.T. the Extra Terrestrial, Jurassic Park, the Indiana Jones movies, and countless other famous movie titles. Musicis the world s most universal language. By itself, it can invoke emotions and create topics of discussion, but music influences movies more than people think. Music in movies is extremely effective and can help establish the tone and mood of any scene or setting with, speed and slow time even with no music, help the audience characterize and connect with characters, and involve and affect the audience mentally and emotionally. When put to film, music can help establish the tone and mood for any setting. Music can especially help distinguish the type of film.
