BUDO Culture
Column 1
What is BUDO?
The Provenance of BUDO, KARATE
BUDO culture came into existence in Edo era, 1603 1868. Before then, BU, which means combats or
fights, had existed only as ways to kill someone, or ways to climb the ladder of military success. In
other words, BU had not yet combined with DO 道, spiritual and ethical values. So, that hadn t been
called as BUDO, but had called as BU JITSU or BUGEI. 術 JITSU and 芸 GEI, both of them mean
ways to to do something or arts of something, not including ideological and ethical ideas. But,
entering Edo era, arts of war, among samurai class, became one of cultures fused with ancient spiritual
cultures such as Buddhism and Confucianism, ideas of which include ethical reason and courtesy. One

KARATE originated from an ethnic martial art in Ryukyu, which was once an independent islands
country located in southwest of Japan until integrated by Japan in the 19th century. Some skills were,
therefore, handed down mistakenly and others were lost, when being introduced into the main islands
of Japan. And that must be the reason why confusions occurred in KARATE world afterward. Since
then, KARATE had got popular among mainly college students, and despite lack of technical
understanding, and rushed to set rules for its competition. The rules were set in imitation of KENDO,
Japanese fencing. That was the birth of, what is called, SUN DOME rule which prohibits excessive
direct contacting attacks by fists and legs. However, KYOKUSHIN KARATE, one of a large number
of KARATE organizations, created the full contact style rulls. They thought that KARATE should be
BUDO involving actual combat ability, and then, said farewell to ambiguous things called KARATE s
tradition. KARATE shifted its philosophy to seeking the ability and skills as combat sports, keeping its
BUDO essence. On KARATE, every time a new group is formed, the group invents their own original
competition style and rules. On the other hand, other martial arts evolve in accordance with one settled
competition rules. That is because the significance of KARATE s existence is to

Summary Of Death Of A Moth By Dillard
Dillard uses a fragment to show her reluctance as she accepts that they will not understand what really
is given up. This fragment makes a striking contrast with the previous sentences in the classroom
scene which consists of continuous questions and run on questions. Without stating it, Dillard shows
that she has given up and will continue to feel as if she is still alone in her situation. With the constant
grammatically incorrect sentences Dillard writes in, she ultimately creates a unique voice that results
in a more personal essay for the reader to connect to. Dillard makes striking choices of diction to craft
a stronger argument in Death of a Moth. One of her significant choices is her use of anatomical
vocabulary that the reader would

The Modern Prometheus By Mary Shelley Essay
Society tends to put men on a higher pedestal than women. This is because in the beginning, God
created man, Adam, first. Society looks back on this and gets the idea that since man was created first,
they are the greater of the genders. God created woman from man thus leading to the belief that
women needed men in order to survive. Because men were aware of their so called superiority over
women, they let this power effect their understanding of their role in society. Mary Shelley wrote and
released her first world famous novel, Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus, in 1818.
Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus consisted of mostly male characters, with little to no
attention to female characters. This abundance of attention to male roles represented the dominance of
males in society that tended to silence the importance of women. The subtitle of Mary Shelley s novel,
The Modern Prometheus, obviously alludes to the Greek Titan, Prometheus. Prometheus was given
the task of creating mankind out of clay. Prometheus stole the creation of fire from the gods to give to
mankind. This theft upset Zeus because he thought Prometheus was giving mankind too much power.
In order to punish Prometheus, Zeus chained him to a rock so that Prometheus liver would be pecked
out by a bird every day. Every night, Prometheus liver would grow back so that the suffering would
never end. The main character of Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus is Victor Frankenstein.

The United States Steel Industry
Steel has an intricate past and present. When scientist discovered how to mass produce steel the
moment marked the modern society s genesis. During that time, the United States Steel Corporation
dominated the steel industry. Today, the steel industry sees competition not only from native business
but from abroad as well. Steel is used in almost every major commercial load bearing structure.
Combined global competition and mixed uses has increased the need for civil engineers to conduct
specialized research.
A Brave New World
The United States steel industry has a rich history. America started its love affair with steel in the mid
1800 s when Sir Henry Bessemer of England engineered what is today known as the Bessemer

The United States Steel Corporation led the field in steel production in early America. As of 2015, the
United States Steel Corporation is still a major player in the industry, but they also compete against
giants such as the Nucor Corporation, Steel Dynamics Incorporated, ArcelorMittal USA and AK Steel
Holding Corporation and the AK Steel Holding Corporation. In all, there are approximately 50 major
steel manufacturers in the United States. Three quarters of these manufacturers hold membership in
the Steel Manufacturers Association. Collectively, these member companies employ over a half
million workers. The group works together to set industry standards the server the interest of the
public and its members. They regulate steel industry policy in areas such as operations, environment,
human resources, safety and transportation. These industry regulations create a demand for civil
engineers who can carry out these objectives.
The Role of Steel in Modern Construction
Steel is a very versatile building material. Construction companies use steel in a variety of settings.
The most notable setting is in the building construction arena. Steel serves as the backbone of some of
the most strikingly beautiful structures in the United States. Designing these buildings so that they are
safe, to its occupants and the environment is a formidable feat. These projects are so formidable that

The Lilly Kane Murder Trial Interest
She waits for Saturday before she stalks Aaron Echolls again. Digging up his credit history, fine, she
could do that between classes. Phone logs were a little sketchier, apparently Mr. Echolls had up to
three cell phones, she would have to talk to Logan about that. And internet info... She was put off
enough by the number of times people in that house Google d themselves, she didn t have time to
stomach the porn. The Lilly Kane murder trial interest was morbid, but she figured she could relate.

Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea Essay
Jules Verne was a 19th century French writer. Born in February 8th, 1828 in the city of
Nantes, France. Jules became interested with the theatre, and that s when he began writing plays,
dramas and operas. Twenty thousand leagues under the sea was first published in French in
1870. In the classic science fiction novel, Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea, Jules Verne
uses revenge, man versus nature and liberty to portray the central topic. It is the most important
book from his science fiction series, Voyages Extraordinaires, and in English, Extraordinary
Trips. Professor Pierre Aronnax is the main character and narrator of the story. Aronnax boarded

Consequently, Captain Nemo imprisons
Aronnax, Conseil and Ned Land.
Man versus nature is the main theme in this novel, which stands in for the conflict between
Aronnax and Captain Nemo, and between Nemo and himself. Aronnax is a naturalist and is
obligated to choose between science and his companions, as a result of his opposition with
Nemo. Man versus nature consists men battling against a force of nature in order to achieve their
goals. Nemo set off his ship with the purpose of revoking men s development from that era, then
the modern era and transform society into was he believed was better. Whereas, the novel s
theme is really about men trying to overcome and defy nature. Captain Nemo believes he can
create the same land s atmosphere in the Nautilus; the Nautilus also represents the conflict
between man and nature because Nemo used it to explore the broad and unexplored oceans.
Another theme in the novel is revenge. Revenge is the act of taking vengeance for injuries
on wrongs. Captain Nemo is seeking revenge from injustices that occurred while he was on land.
He also feels apathetic towards the rest of the world for the way they constantly use and

Who Is Jean Valjean s Death
The Resurrection of Jean Valjean In 1862, author Victor Hugo published what is viewed today as one
of the most interesting and phenomenal historic fictional books, Les Miserables. The epic novel
eventually inspired many other writers and screenwriters to create the musical and movie versions.
There are many themes present in the Les Miserables works of art, including the subject matter of
redemption. For example, in Les Miserables, author Victor Hughes uses Jean Valjean and his
evolution from having a terrible childhood to becoming a good hearted man to prove that anyone can
become a good person no matter how unfortunate their life is. Jean Valjean suffered a serious

College Athletes Should Not Be Exempt from Regular Class...
Many college athletes miss classes because of practice, competition and from exhaustion.
For those reasons, supporters argue for exemption of athletes from class attendance policies.
Others argue that college athletes are given scholarships to attend college to play sports. On the
contrary, the focus of colleges is educating students. The question is, should colleges athletes be
exempt from the class attendance requirements? The answer is no and here is why. First, the education
of athletes takes priority over recreational activities. Second, it is unfair for athletes to receive
preferential treatment. Third, exempting athletes from the policies does not allow them to develop
time management skills. For these reasons the college ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After all, athletes are not born they train hard to get their skills and do remarkably on the court. The
philosophy here is athletes must work equally hard in the classroom. (Emma) stated in A College
Perspective on Academic and the Student Athlete.
Coach Athletic Director As more eyes open to the athlete s challenges and struggles, more ideas and
strategies will emerge to help them succeed not only in between the lines of the playing field or court,
but in the lecture halls, science labs, and classrooms as well. Thus, education is a key element that
produces academic achievers, tomorrow s leaders and balance adults. Given these points, the student
athletes must recognize the importance class attendance.
For the longest time it has been known that student athletes often miss classes. Moreover, athlete miss
classes to attend practice, take part in competition and from exhaustion. Also, some athletes are going
to leave college early and enter professional sport. Consequently, they skip classes and slide through
college. Of course, colleges with attendance policies requires students to attend classes a certain
amount of time and so should the athletes. Whenever athletes miss classes their academic performance
is usually affected. As a matter of fact, it is difficult for them to keep up the grades required for them
to keep the scholarship reward and stay on the team. By the same token, exempting

They also have a lot of powerful words like, Don t be the prey. Run like the prey. This part of the ad
practices the use of assonance by repeating that o sound which creates a persuasive tone of voice.
Assonance is used here to emphasize the intensity of the situation and it does a very good job doing it.
Also in the same ad we use Synesthesia by using a colorful outdoor theme in the background. The use
of synesthesia is very persuasive here because it makes the viewer experience other senses than vision.
It makes the viewer feel like they are the animal in the ad which is a very good technique to use in this
situation because it puts the viewer in the preys shoes. One thing that the Shoes of Prey ad lacks is the
amount of text provided in the written ad. This really affects the amount of customers that we acquire.
The amount of text is what really can draw people in but without enough information/explanation, it is
hard for people to really understand why they should buy the product. Another flaw to the ads were
the lack of comparisons. Implementing more forms of comparison (simile or metaphor) would have
been very useful in our case. We could have used comparison to show how our product is better than
all of our competitors. We should have compared the materials to other companies product to show
why our shoes are the

Discrimination In The Movie The Help
Within the movie The Help there are a variety of major issues represented, most directly the
discrimination that existed in the 1960s. The movie itself follows the journey of a white, budding
journalist and her relationship with two black maids, Aibileen and Minny, during the Civil Rights
Movement in 1963 Jackson, Mississippi. To start off her career as a journalist she decides to write a
book, titled The Help, recounting the experiences of the black maids in her town to help expose
racism. The movie itself is very critical of the racial discrimination that existed in its time frame but
some say that it silently communicates racist tones throughout the entire movie. This argument is
justified as the movie often found itself highlighting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Within the movie there s a continued feeling of helplessness with the black maids, with how desperate
their situations seem to be. But, that all changes when Skeeter decides to start writing about the
hardships that they have. All of a sudden everything seems to be a little lighter, more hopeful as soon a
Skeeter is implemented into the movie. Although it may be historically accurate at the time that there
weren t many black journalists, the black maids at the very least could ve written their story
themselves and perhaps taken a more forward and progressive role to reveal the discrimination that
they faced. But, in the movie the black maids do nothing until Skeeter arrives. An example of this
happens in the movie where there was no one was willing to talk about their own problems until
Skeeter started asking around. Although this would have been accurate for the time period for the
movie as they would have been scared of the repercussions, it gives a sense of helplessness for the
black community. Some people would ve for sure started to talk and write about ehr own problems
especially at the time period that the movie was taking place with Martin Luther King and his civil
rights march. This was the time period of major change in the U.S.A especially for black communities
since they finally had a voice. Furthermore, once Skeeter finished writing her book it seemed as if
everyone instantly started to read the book and started treated black maids better. Perhaps it time it
would result in events that did happen in the movie, but obviously this wouldn t happen overnight or
even over a week as seen. All of this makes the viewer of The Help feel as if Skeeter was the main
driving force of the movement in her town and she should be the one praised, not the black maids who
had to suffer and risked everything by telling their

Analysis Of The Movie Gone Girl No One Should Criticize...
Rosamund Pike said, When the eyes are on you for the first time, you can t believe that people aren t
criticizing you, and after her fantastic acting performance as Amy Dunne in Gone Girl no one should
criticize her. Gone Girl is full of brilliant acting by many of the characters, but the actress that stood
out the most to me was Rosamund Pike as Amy Dunne. The theme of the movie is that everyone has
to conform to some stereotype deemed okay by society in order to be liked. We all have to put on a
face and act to be someone we are not, and Rosamund Pike as Amy Dunne portrays this beautifully.
She is always acting, acting like the cool girl, acting like the victim but underneath it she is someone
very different; she is not a female stereotype deemed fit by society but a psychopath. She therefore
creates a multidimensional character with many layers.
The first time the audience sees Amy Dunne she is playing the ultimate cool girl. Nick introduces
himself to her at a party and she creates an image of a sexy, mysterious, carefree girl. She has her hair
in an effortless ponytail with stray pieces cascading down her face, which reflects her personality: laid
back and sexy without trying to hard. When they first meet she is witty and casual, performing the
ultimate cool girl stereotype perfectly. As Nick and Amy s relationship progresses the audience sees
more and more of this; she literally embodies the perfect woman. But when she becomes her real self,
it shows

Resistance And Resistance In The Poetry Of Darwish
Darwish found the force of words at an early stage and composed fierce poems of resistance and love
of land. Darwish s poem Identity Card 1964 has an exceptional hold back write down, I am an Arab!
This reiteration frames a cry that takes shape, from one perspective, the association between the
Palestinian identity and land, and then again, the Palestinian resistance against Israeli endeavors to
delete the Palestinian identity in the occupied land. The Palestinian identity has dependably been at the
heart of the Israel Palestine struggle not just on the grounds that it inseparably connects Palestinians
with their country but since it is additionally a method for resistance. It is a steady indication of what
was detracted from the Palestinians and an image of the continuous clash with Israel for their privilege
of presence.

Nauert And Humanism
Nauert, Charles G. Humanism and the Culture of Renaissance Europe (Cambridge University Press,
2006)
In Humanism and the Culture of Renaissance Europe, Charles G. Nauert synthesizes the development
of humanism during the Renaissance while also illustrating the importance of the development of
humanism to the age of the Renaissance. Nauert was Professor Emeritus of History at the University
of Missouri, Columbia and his specialty was Renaissance Reformation Europe. His purpose in writing
is to prove that the establishment and expansion of humanism during the Renaissance contributed to
the subsequent development of Western society in the modern era. Nauert s research is thorough and

Nauert illustrates how humanism affected religion, platonic revival, and magic, beliefs on human
nature, popular culture, and Renaissance art. The art of printing helped ignite the growth of humanism
and enables humanists to share their ideas. Nauert argues that the humanists criticism of texts in the
fields of law, medicine, natural science, and theology allowed them to assume control over these
fields. They gained this control because they claimed that their critical methods revealed whether a
document was authentic, furthermore, they rejected documents that they discovered were forged or
misinterpreted. In Florence during the mid fifteenth century, humanists became less interested in civic
humanism, and grew interested in spiritual, religious, and philosophical questions. Nauert suggests
that Niccolò Machiavelli was the sixteenth century heir of Florentine civic humanism. Nauert
illustrates how Renaissance art was connected to humanism. He writes, The veneration felt by
humanists for ancient works of art was widely regarded as a rediscovery of the principles of the
principles a spirit of ancient art, a three sided influence among ancient work, modern artist, and
modern humanist was only natural (91). The papacy also became patrons of humanistic art and
scholarship; and their support facilitated the expansion of humanism. The achievements of
Renaissance Italy did begin to lessen in the sixteenth century; and the influence of humanism faded,
but did not perish. Italian humanism was transported across the Alps and ignited humanist movements
in Germany, France, England, and Spain. The basic elements of northern humanism derived from
Italian humanism; however, in each country that humanism spread to the people adapted or altered the
elements of Italian humanism in order to fulfill their needs. The primary way that humanism

The Token Status Of Female And Female Relational...
The present study serves to evaluate the relationship between the token status of female cadets and the
existence of female relational aggression. It is my hypothesis that the added pressures experienced by
token female cadets in the hyper competitive, male dominated environment of West Point exacerbate
female relational aggression as women seek to reject their token status in an effort to be accepted by
the dominant group. In order to analyze the connection between tokenism and female relational
aggression I will conduct surveys with female cadets to analyze their experience as tokens and their
experience with relational aggression. I will then draw from these surveys to see if any connections
exist between the two areas. Tokenism In Rosabeth Moss Kanter s Men and Women of the
Corporation, she lays out the theoretical framework of tokenism through the evaluation of Industrial
Supply Corporation, Indsco. In this corporation, women held less than 10% of the salaried positions
and no women were at the level reporting to officers (Kanter, 1977). Kanter defines tokenism as a
phenomenon that occurs in organizations where groups of people are skewed in such a way that there
is a large preponderance of one type over another, up to a ratio of perhaps 85:15 (p. 382). Those who
make up the numerical majority of the group are labeled as the dominants and those who make up the
minority are labeled as tokens. Kanter indicates that they are labeled as such because

A Summary On The Business Industry
5 Fascinating Movies About Entrepreneurs
Entrepreneurs are the flavour of the year and today everyone is either one or on the way to becoming
one. Fueled by the drive to earn more than what most jobs can give, rock star like adulation achieved
by those who make it, and with success stories that run into billions of dollars, being an entrepreneur
is the new black. In fact those of us who are 30 plus would still remember that just two to three
decades back, being an entrepreneur, especially if you were male, meant that you were either morally
bankrupt or worse stupid, and either of which, by the way, substantially brought down your value in
the marriage market.
But times are a changing, the days ahead are heady, and for those who have or are planning to take the
plunge, here are five films that are worth watching. They are not just inspiring, you might even pick
up a few business and even life lessons in the process.
Tom Cruise plays the title role in Jerry Maguire (1996), and works for a sports management company
as their star agent. He is fired when he writes and circulates a memo pointing out the wrongs of their
business. It is then that he decides to build from scratch a business based on his newly discovered
philosophy. And in that he has the support of just one athlete, Rod Tidwell (Cuba Gooding Jr.) and one
employee, played by Renée Zellweger. Jerry realizes it is easier said than done, learns a lot along the
journey, and teaches us a few things:

Positive Role In Social Work
Social work is a practice based profession and academic discipline focusing on the principles of social
justice, human rights and equality and diversity (International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW),
2014). Furthermore, social work is a complex discipline which is underpinned by theories grounded in
social science, humanities and indigenous knowledge (IFSW, 2014). Social work has been embedded
into society as a fundamental aspect of planning person centred care for vulnerable groups (Dowling
et al, 2006). There are many schools of thought which attempt to define what constitutes a vulnerable
group within society. Richardson et al (2015) states that vulnerability arises within those individuals
who need support to address the challenges that affect their quality of life. Poverty, extremes of age,
disability, mental or physical health status and ethnicity all have the potential to contribute to
vulnerability and social exclusion of the group or individual (Joseph Rowntree Foundation, 2017). In
particular, the elderly and youths leaving care are recognised as having multiple needs and face
adversity integrating wholly into society. It is the role of the social worker to assess, plan, intervene,
implement and evaluate the care for these groups and individuals (Horner, 2009)).
Social workers play a vital role within society in supporting such people regardless of their
background. They are not only there to protect people from abuse but to also help enable individuals

vastly different to that of our grandparents. The values of the new generation are changing and our
laws need to be updated to be properly adequate for these changes. One of those laws that I personally
feel requires immediate change is our current laws surrounding surrogacy as it has always been and
always will be a common desire to have a family. The current laws and penalties are Inconsistent

Constantin Francois Volney s Ruins of Empires. All of these books influenced the creature to become

Paradise Lost focuses on the failures of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, which can also translate
to the failures of us as humans because they decided to eat the fruit. This would not leave a good
impression of humanity on the creature, because he does not know anything about humanity yet other
than the fact that they seem to hate him because of his appearance. On the other hand, Life of Pi
focuses on humanity s ability to persevere, even during the hardest situations. The creature which is
ostracized by society, can be compared to Pi who left all alone on a boat after being orphaned by a
ship wreck. Pi was lost at sea for 227 days with a 450 pound Bengal tiger and to stay alive in that sort
of situation requires amazing perseverance. If the creature had read this book and learned more about
perseverance through Pi s example, I believe that he would have been able to persevere through the
ostracization, and wouldn t have been so driven by his hatred for his own appearance. Even though
society may have rejected him, if the creature read Life of Pi, he would have learned to persevere

The Tradition Of The Church Of Christ
Introduction Over the years, many people have seen their lives transformed spiritually through their
practices and adherence to the application of scriptures, prayer and spiritual traditions. Therefore,
churches express their spirituality through different traditions and practices based on the emphasis
placed on that particular tradition. Fundamentally, in identifying these traditions Richard Foster placed
them in six categories, namely, contemplative, holiness, charismatic, social justice, evangelical, and
incarnation. Although, these traditions are central to our Christian faith each church has demonstrated
a tendency to prefer the practice of one over the other (Spiritual Formation, in Class notes, 2013).

Jesus laid the foundation on which the church live. The evidence is established in the accountability of
its members in keeping with the standards in the Bible. I Peter 1:16 (NIV) Be Holy because I am holy.
Hence, each member strives to purify and sanctify their lives through the renunciation of shameful and
sinful ways. Therefore, the focus is conforming to the standard of Jesus, to reflect his glory. Further,
the church continues to strive in their efforts to live a virtuous life despite discouragement,
temptations, doubt and fears that might distract them at times (Spiritual Formation, in class notes,
2014).
Explain three ways in which that tradition is practiced
Three ways in which the evangelical and holiness tradition are practice is as follows, application of the
word, discipleship and living a virtuous life. In applying the word to their daily lives the Church is
edified as they grow more into the likeness of Christ. A central aspect of this is reading the Bible each
day and living according to it. Notwithstanding, the word comes to the church in many ways. Through
preaching and teaching, encouragement or rebuke from brothers and sisters or others around us.
Central to the teachings of the Church is that the word is applicable to

To His Coy Mistress Rhetorical Analysis
In the 1600 s when Andrew Marvell was alive, the estimated life expectancy was a lot shorter than it is
in the present. Marvell s poem To His Coy Mistress is a dramatic monologue about not having enough
time in his life to enjoy his mistress. Even if he lived a longer life there would never be enough time.
The poem as a whole consists of forty six lines and is filled with imagery. The images that are invoked
by the narrator are in no way ordinary in their description. They rouse compelling feelings of yearning
and want. It also brings a persuasive feeling to the table. The persuasiveness would not be as affective
without the superb work of imagery used by Andrew Marvell. The first two lines of the poem Had we
but world enough, and time,/ This coyness, lady, were no crime allows the reader to see into the mind
of the narrator for a brief moment. He thinks he is the victim of the Lady s reserved nature. He wants
to persuade her to have sex with him while using reverse psychology to prompt her to think it is her

John Stuart Mill Limitations
Freedom of speech has been a controversial topic for many years. It has not been controversial in the
sense of whether or not countries should have it, but whether or not there should be certain limitations
on free speech. John Stuart Mill believes that the Harm Principle should be the only limitation on free
speech. Raphael Cohen Almagor believes that there should be an extension of the Harm Principle
called the Offence Principle. The problem is finding the limitation between the two of the different
principles. I believe that the Offence Principle is a necessary extension of the Harm Principle, but
there needs to be a line between what is considered offensive and what is not.
John Stuart Mill was an English philosopher who wrote On Liberty. In On Liberty, Mill discusses the
importance and the limitations that should be set on free speech. Mill is more tolerant of free speech
and language rights, but he also believes that there should be limitations on free speech so there is
regulation on the actions of people under free speech (Mill John Stuart, 1975).

Harm Principle. The Offence Principle would not only cover physical harm, but psychological harm as

life in all the cowboy movies and put a glamorous feel around it. However, Hollywood is about selling
dreams and fantasy, though the reality is quite different. The reality is that sex work is dangerous. The
act in and of itself is not usually dangerous, nevertheless, the situations in which it needs to be
conducted are. Today s sex work incorporates more than just prostitution; the adult film industry,
Dom/Sub work, phone sex operators, together with exotic dancing are all considered sex work. The
focus of this essay has been narrowed down to just the prostitution aspect of sex work and the
decriminalization for the means of creating a safer environment for the worker. Decriminalization of
this particular type of sex work would render the job safer for the workers given that they would have
the ability to screen clients, an established place of employment, safety in numbers, a positive
relationship with law enforcement, and enhanced means to protect themselves from health risks.
Screening of the clients is a key aspect of keeping the sex workers safe. Screening the clients is a lot
about reading people, their clothes, their attitude, how they hold themselves and trusting the
experience of the worker s instinct. The screening process will not work every single time, however,
the ability to make the decision to go with a client or not can save the workers life. Escorts and

Plato, Philosophy, And Philosophy
Plato is philosophy, and philosophy, Plato. Ralph Waldo Emerson. This was the first quote I read
regarding Plato when I first picked up the Great Dialogues of Plato, and turned it over to read the back
cover. This quote struck me for some unknown reason and I instantly couldn t wait to begin reading
the dialogues of Plato and begin to understand why he is regarded as one of the great philosophers.
The first piece I read, was The Apology, spoken by the great philosopher Socrates and written down
by his student Plato. The Apology was Socrates defense in the Athenian court against accusations that
were falsely brought upon Socrates. The charges brought against Socrates was that he was a corruptor
of the youth and that he believed in supernatural phenomena of his own invention rather than the gods
of the state. At first, the dialogue was a smidge difficult for me to read, but as I began getting more
involved in the reading and understanding more how Socrates talks, it became much easier to
understand the content behind his words. Not once did Socrates beg and cry the jury for his life, but he
rather defended his philosophy. While reading The Apology by Socrates, I learned many things, the
most notable being: it is important to know oneself, wisdom does not come from specialized
knowledge, and that one should focus on the pursuit of truth and of improving of one s soul. Perhaps
the most important of messages I took away from Socrates The Apology, is the notion of

Killing Animals Is A Normal Way Of Life
For many, killing animals is a normal way of life. After all, animals are here on earth to eat right? I
was raised to think just this way. In my family, we learned to hunt and fish at an early age. We have
even produced a few hogs of our own to butcher. A life without meat seemed insane to the younger
me. As I aged I got involved in 4 H, an agriculture program for kids. Children with the help of their
parents raise and then sell animals such as pigs, chickens, turkeys, goats, rabbit, and cows at their
local fairs. I spent eight years in this program starting at the age of nine. I was a freshman in high
school when I got involved in FFA, another agriculture program but for teenagers. I learned the ins
and outs of the agriculture ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This makes hogs the more efficient choice to produce for our consumption. Now, of course, I have
never eaten a dog. That would go against the American norm, but I definitely make it a point to ask
people why they choose one but not the other. As a senior in high school, I did a research essay on the
treatment of animals in the meat industry. After my findings, I strongly considered becoming a
vegetarian but never made the steps to. It is now two years after I graduated high school and I am
questioning the world more now than ever. I have heard of new studies showing that eating meat is not
just harming innocent animals. It s harming humans and the environment as a whole. Over the past
year, I have been trying to reduce my footprint on this earth. After hearing a few shocking facts, it was
enough to push me to the next step to becoming a vegetarian. Since at the moment I am going off a
few facts, I wanted to dig further and find the truth. I want to know is the meat industry harming our
environment? I am ready to uncover the hidden negativities of this industry and find out if the good
outweighs the bad.
A staggering 80 percent of the deforestation has been caused by agriculture. I have always known that
a whopping 71 percent of the earth s surface is made up of water, leaving 29 percent as a land surface.
This made me wonder how much of the land is used for agriculture? Ann

wanted to be wounded purposely, just so he could be like everyone else.
12. How does Henry predict his regiment will treat him when he returns? Explain whether or not he
was correct.
Henry predicted that his regiment will treat him a certain way he returns. Henry was wrong. He

13. How has Wilson changed? Is this Henry s perception, or has Wilson changed?
Wilson has changed. He s not the same person, he once was. I personally think that this has to do with
Henry s perception, as well as Wilson truthfully changing. A quotation to prove this is: Wilson even
gives Henry his one blanket. Henry notes that Wilson has changed. He is now caring and thoughtful.
He no longer boasts or argues. (Shmoop) Wilson even owns up to it, as

A Human Resources Value Analysis
A Human Resources Value Analysis of Canada s Top 100 Employers, Best Employers in Canada, and
The Queen s Competition
This human resources study will recommend two of the largest promotional competitions for business
rankings found in Canada s Top 100 Employers and Best Employers in Canada. These competitions
define the most efficient workplace environment, which produce the most productive and efficient
corporate communities. The one important aspect of Canada s Top 100 Employers defines the most
effective workplace environments as part of an employee focus on Canadian industry. In a contrasting
manner, Best Employers in Canada also seeks to understand how emotional and environmental
stresses are minimized as a determination of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The structure of the competition is defined through the various physicality of the workplace,
communications, and the financial benefits offered to each employee to identify the best companies
for this criterion. The website defines these aspects of competitive criterion to gauge the best corporate
environment for employees:
(1)Physical Workplace; (2) Work Atmosphere Social; (3) Health, Financial Family Benefits; (4)
Vacation Time Off; (5) Employee Communications; (6) Performance Management; (7) Training Skills
Development; and (8) Community Involvement (Canadastop100.com, 2015, para.2).
The overarching purpose of these requirements for gauging the value of HR in these companies is
defined through a primarily financial and interactive aspect of employee relations. The value of this
competition defines the physical and environmental factors that gauge financial wellbeing and the
operational aspects of corporate HR culture: The physical comfort level is also important for
successful communications and social interaction (Werner DeSimone, 009, p.194). In this manner,
Canada s Top 100 provides a more materialistic version of HR value to the companies, especially in
measuring the effectiveness of these criterion for judging the contestants. This competition offers an
application process that is open to all companies of any size as long as they are in Canada.

Michael O Hanlon has gathered many ideas on how to diffuse the crisis between the United States and
North Korea, and possibly how to go about finding a long term resolution. (Hanlon). One might say
that the U.S. s problems with North Korea aren t the biggest issue America is facing, but with research
one can find that this is a life threatening issue. While the aggression between the United States and
North Korea is an issue, another issue the United States faces is illegal immigration.
The next issue the United States faces is illegal immigration. According to the article, 5 Facts About
Illegal Immigration In The U.S.., in 2015 there were nearly eleven million unlicensed immigrants in
the United States (Krogstad). The article, 5 Facts About Illegal Immigration In The U.S.., explains that
although it is commonly mistaken, there have been many investigations that have proven that
Mexicans, people from the Southern border, may no longer be the greatest number of unlicensed
immigrants in the U.S. (Krogstad). According to the article, 9 Things You Need To Know About
Illegal Immigration and Crime, the amount of illegal immigrants in jail is not proportionate to the
amount of U.S. citizens in jail. ( 9 Things You Need To Know About Illegal Immigration and Crime ).

PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENT OF INTERNATIONAL AIRLINES
The airline industry, like many other industries, is increasingly exposed to competition. Increased
competition has two effects on firms: it creates downward pressures on output prices, and it creates
incentives for improving productivity and efficiency. Many airlines have been forced to undertake
major restructuring in order to meet these challenges. Many researchers have used different model to
decompose changes in airline profitability into two components: productivity and price recovery
ability. The study concluded that increased competition in international air transport markets has put
pressures on carriers ability to raise prices. However input prices, like labor, fuel, materials, flight
equipment, ground property and equipment have been increasing. They also demonstrated that airlines
have made tremendous effort to improve efficiency to counteract such trends, yet large fluctuations in
profitability are still an ongoing reality. Due to these fluctuations in airline fortunes, early warning
systems of imminent distress are of benefit to management and airline stakeholders such as creditors
and investors. No prediction

A Personalized Sergei Bodrov
A role in a movie is like a mirror that reflects an actor s personality. Some actors are capable of
playing certain roles but not others. If an actor can feel the role, he or she will play it naturally, as it
would resemble his or her life. Actors put their heart into playing, which gives them the model.
Through a role an actor connects to the audience who makes the final decision about the movie s
purpose; that is why it is very important to show this purpose correctly by playing it sincerely.
Personalization is a significant factor that can lead to the success or failure of a film. Sergei Bodrov Jr
was a leading actor in several movies during the late 1990s and early 2000s, he did not just play roles,
he lived the roles. Sergei came ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

make sure he is physically fit for the military. In the Chechen Republic, Vanya and another Sgt.
Kostylin are injured in the explosion of a personnel carrier after which they are to be taken hostage.
This is just the beginning of the story that will become legendary for Sergei Bodrov. Vanya has to go
through many challenges that shake his inner stability. First, he meets Hasan, his guard, who cannot
speak because his tongue is torn out. Second, he is shackled with leg shackles to Kostylin, the other
Russian soldier held hostage. The situation of insecurity and absence of freedom makes the character
alert and ready to stay alive by helping others. For example, Vanya fixed clocks for some Chechens.
After time has passed, the prisoners Vanya and Kostylin are forced to leave the house of Abdul Murat
since Chechen fighters want them to work for them. The captives work finding mines for the Chechen
as guinea pigs to clear a road for the others to pass. However, the prisoners survive the work zones
and come back to the house of Abdul Murat. The director of the movie increases the tragedy by letting
Vanya s mother know about the hostage situation. Her tears and pleads to Abdul Murat do not change
his decision do her son. Chechen elders have great influence, often acting as intermediaries between

  • 3. BUDO Culture Column 1 What is BUDO? The Provenance of BUDO, KARATE BUDO culture came into existence in Edo era, 1603 1868. Before then, BU, which means combats or fights, had existed only as ways to kill someone, or ways to climb the ladder of military success. In other words, BU had not yet combined with DO 道, spiritual and ethical values. So, that hadn t been called as BUDO, but had called as BU JITSU or BUGEI. 術 JITSU and 芸 GEI, both of them mean ways to to do something or arts of something, not including ideological and ethical ideas. KARATE originated from an ethnic martial art in Ryukyu, which was once an independent islands country located in southwest of Japan until integrated by Japan in the 19th century. Some skills were, therefore, handed down mistakenly and others were lost, when being introduced into the main islands of Japan. And that must be the reason why confusions occurred in KARATE world afterward. Since then, KARATE had got popular among mainly college students, and despite lack of technical understanding, and rushed to set rules for its competition. The rules were set in imitation of KENDO, Japanese fencing. That was the birth of, what is called, SUN DOME rule which prohibits excessive direct contacting attacks by fists and legs. However, KYOKUSHIN KARATE, one of a large number of KARATE organizations, created the full contact style rulls. They thought that KARATE should be BUDO involving actual combat ability, and then, said farewell to ambiguous things called KARATE s tradition. KARATE shifted its philosophy to seeking the ability and skills as combat sports, keeping its BUDO essence. On KARATE, every time a new group is formed, the group invents their own original competition style and rules. On the other hand, other martial arts evolve in accordance with one settled competition rules. That is because the significance of KARATE s existence is to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This fragment makes a striking contrast with the previous sentences in the classroom scene which consists of continuous questions and run on questions. Without stating it, Dillard shows that she has given up and will continue to feel as if she is still alone in her situation. With the constant grammatically incorrect sentences Dillard writes in, she ultimately creates a unique voice that results in a more personal essay for the reader to connect to. • 5. The Modern Prometheus By Mary Shelley Essay Society tends to put men on a higher pedestal than women. This is because in the beginning, God created man, Adam, first. Society looks back on this and gets the idea that since man was created first, they are the greater of the genders. God created woman from man thus leading to the belief that women needed men in order to survive. Because men were aware of their so called superiority over women, they let this power effect their understanding of their role in society. Mary Shelley wrote and released her first world famous novel, Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus, in 1818. Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus consisted of mostly male characters, with little to no attention to female characters. This abundance of attention to male roles represented the dominance of males in society that tended to silence the importance of women. The subtitle of Mary Shelley s novel, The Modern Prometheus, obviously alludes to the Greek Titan, Prometheus. Prometheus was given the task of creating mankind out of clay. Prometheus stole the creation of fire from the gods to give to mankind. This theft upset Zeus because he thought Prometheus was giving mankind too much power. In order to punish Prometheus, Zeus chained him to a rock so that Prometheus liver would be pecked out by a bird every day. Every night, Prometheus liver would grow back so that the suffering would never end. The main character of Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus is Victor Frankenstein. Victor Frankenstein ... The movie itself follows the journey of a white, budding journalist and her relationship with two black maids, Aibileen and Minny, during the Civil Rights Movement in 1963 Jackson, Mississippi. To start off her career as a journalist she decides to write a book, titled The Help, recounting the experiences of the black maids in her town to help expose racism. But, that all changes when Skeeter decides to start writing about the hardships that they have. Although it may be historically accurate at the time that there weren t many black journalists, the black maids at the very least could ve written their story themselves and perhaps taken a more forward and progressive role to reveal the discrimination that they faced. But, in the movie the black maids do nothing until Skeeter arrives. An example of this happens in the movie where there was no one was willing to talk about their own problems until Skeeter started asking around. Although this would have been accurate for the time period for the movie as they would have been scared of the repercussions, it gives a sense of helplessness for the black community. Some people would ve for sure started to talk and write about ehr own problems especially at the time period that the movie was taking place with Martin Luther King and his civil rights march. This was the time period of major change in the U.S.A especially for black communities since they finally had a voice. Furthermore, once Skeeter finished writing her book it seemed as if everyone instantly started to read the book and started treated black maids better. Perhaps it time it would result in events that did happen in the movie, but obviously this wouldn t happen overnight or even over a week as seen. Our new house was actually not so new, it was one of the oldest houses they had still standing on the base. You need to know that base housing is not like any other housing. Every house in the area you are in looks almost exactly the same and is normally super close to the house next to it. I am sure that on google earth the houses looked like a bunch of dominos and if one house fell all the others would too. This house though was a start to a new beginning. • 22. Analysis Of The Movie Gone Girl No One Should Criticize... Rosamund Pike said, When the eyes are on you for the first time, you can t believe that people aren t criticizing you, and after her fantastic acting performance as Amy Dunne in Gone Girl no one should criticize her. Gone Girl is full of brilliant acting by many of the characters, but the actress that stood out the most to me was Rosamund Pike as Amy Dunne. The theme of the movie is that everyone has to conform to some stereotype deemed okay by society in order to be liked. We all have to put on a face and act to be someone we are not, and Rosamund Pike as Amy Dunne portrays this beautifully. She is always acting, acting like the cool girl, acting like the victim but underneath it she is someone very different; she is not a female stereotype deemed fit by society but a psychopath. She therefore creates a multidimensional character with many layers. The first time the audience sees Amy Dunne she is playing the ultimate cool girl. Nick introduces himself to her at a party and she creates an image of a sexy, mysterious, carefree girl. She has her hair in an effortless ponytail with stray pieces cascading down her face, which reflects her personality: laid back and sexy without trying to hard. When they first meet she is witty and casual, performing the ultimate cool girl stereotype perfectly. As Nick and Amy s relationship progresses the audience sees more and more of this; she literally embodies the perfect woman. But when she becomes her real self, it shows ... Nauert illustrates how humanism affected religion, platonic revival, and magic, beliefs on human nature, popular culture, and Renaissance art. The art of printing helped ignite the growth of humanism and enables humanists to share their ideas. Nauert argues that the humanists criticism of texts in the fields of law, medicine, natural science, and theology allowed them to assume control over these fields. They gained this control because they claimed that their critical methods revealed whether a document was authentic, furthermore, they rejected documents that they discovered were forged or misinterpreted. In Florence during the mid fifteenth century, humanists became less interested in civic humanism, and grew interested in spiritual, religious, and philosophical questions. Nauert suggests that Niccolò Machiavelli was the sixteenth century heir of Florentine civic humanism. Nauert illustrates how Renaissance art was connected to humanism. He writes, The veneration felt by humanists for ancient works of art was widely regarded as a rediscovery of the principles of the principles a spirit of ancient art, a three sided influence among ancient work, modern artist, and modern humanist was only natural (91). The papacy also became patrons of humanistic art and scholarship; and their support facilitated the expansion of humanism. • 25. The Token Status Of Female And Female Relational... The present study serves to evaluate the relationship between the token status of female cadets and the existence of female relational aggression. It is my hypothesis that the added pressures experienced by token female cadets in the hyper competitive, male dominated environment of West Point exacerbate female relational aggression as women seek to reject their token status in an effort to be accepted by the dominant group. In order to analyze the connection between tokenism and female relational aggression I will conduct surveys with female cadets to analyze their experience as tokens and their experience with relational aggression. I will then draw from these surveys to see if any connections exist between the two areas. Tokenism In Rosabeth Moss Kanter s Men and Women of the Corporation, she lays out the theoretical framework of tokenism through the evaluation of Industrial Supply Corporation, Indsco. In this corporation, women held less than 10% of the salaried positions and no women were at the level reporting to officers (Kanter, 1977). Kanter defines tokenism as a phenomenon that occurs in organizations where groups of people are skewed in such a way that there is a large preponderance of one type over another, up to a ratio of perhaps 85:15 (p. 382). Those who make up the numerical majority of the group are labeled as the dominants and those who make up the minority are labeled as tokens. Kanter indicates that they are labeled as such because ... Fueled by the drive to earn more than what most jobs can give, rock star like adulation achieved by those who make it, and with success stories that run into billions of dollars, being an entrepreneur is the new black. • 28. Positive Role In Social Work Social work is a practice based profession and academic discipline focusing on the principles of social justice, human rights and equality and diversity (International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW), 2014). Furthermore, social work is a complex discipline which is underpinned by theories grounded in social science, humanities and indigenous knowledge (IFSW, 2014). Social work has been embedded into society as a fundamental aspect of planning person centred care for vulnerable groups (Dowling et al, 2006). There are many schools of thought which attempt to define what constitutes a vulnerable group within society. Richardson et al (2015) states that vulnerability arises within those individuals who need support to address the challenges that affect their quality of life. Poverty, extremes of age, disability, mental or physical health status and ethnicity all have the potential to contribute to vulnerability and social exclusion of the group or individual (Joseph Rowntree Foundation, 2017). In particular, the elderly and youths leaving care are recognised as having multiple needs and face adversity integrating wholly into society. It is the role of the social worker to assess, plan, intervene, implement and evaluate the care for these groups and individuals (Horner, 2009)). Social workers play a vital role within society in supporting such people regardless of their background. Pablo began conducting business by carrier pigeon and word of mouth. As soon as he realized that his phone conversations were being tapped, Pablo, left his swanky jail in 1992. His empire was being abused from all sides. His fields were burning, his dealers were changing teams, and the coke fueled disco was giving way to the ecstasy powered rave. • 37. To His Coy Mistress Rhetorical Analysis In the 1600 s when Andrew Marvell was alive, the estimated life expectancy was a lot shorter than it is in the present. Marvell s poem To His Coy Mistress is a dramatic monologue about not having enough time in his life to enjoy his mistress. Even if he lived a longer life there would never be enough time. The poem as a whole consists of forty six lines and is filled with imagery. The images that are invoked by the narrator are in no way ordinary in their description. They rouse compelling feelings of yearning and want. It also brings a persuasive feeling to the table. The persuasiveness would not be as affective without the superb work of imagery used by Andrew Marvell. The first two lines of the poem Had we but world enough, and time,/ This coyness, lady, were no crime allows the reader to see into the mind of the narrator for a brief moment. He thinks he is the victim of the Lady s reserved nature. He wants to persuade her to have sex with him while using reverse psychology to prompt her to think it is her own fault for not doing it in the first place. Instead of using phrases that give images of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 38. John Stuart Mill Limitations Freedom of speech has been a controversial topic for many years. It has not been controversial in the sense of whether or not countries should have it, but whether or not there should be certain limitations on free speech. John Stuart Mill believes that the Harm Principle should be the only limitation on free speech. Raphael Cohen Almagor believes that there should be an extension of the Harm Principle called the Offence Principle. The problem is finding the limitation between the two of the different principles. I believe that the Offence Principle is a necessary extension of the Harm Principle, but there needs to be a line between what is considered offensive and what is not. John Stuart Mill was an English philosopher who wrote On Liberty. In On Liberty, Mill discusses the importance and the limitations that should be set on free speech. Mill is more tolerant of free speech and language rights, but he also believes that there should be limitations on free speech so there is regulation on the actions of people under free speech (Mill John Stuart, 1975). Mill stated in On Liberty, But the peculiar evil of silencing the expression of an opinion is that it is robbing the human race; as well as the existing generation; those who dissent from the opinion, still more than those ... • 40. The Sex Of Sex Work The world of sex work has been around for countless years. Hollywood portrays it as a normal way of life in all the cowboy movies and put a glamorous feel around it. However, Hollywood is about selling dreams and fantasy, though the reality is quite different. The reality is that sex work is dangerous. The act in and of itself is not usually dangerous, nevertheless, the situations in which it needs to be conducted are. Today s sex work incorporates more than just prostitution; the adult film industry, Dom/Sub work, phone sex operators, together with exotic dancing are all considered sex work. The focus of this essay has been narrowed down to just the prostitution aspect of sex work and the decriminalization for the means of creating a safer environment for the worker. Decriminalization of this particular type of sex work would render the job safer for the workers given that they would have the ability to screen clients, an established place of employment, safety in numbers, a positive relationship with law enforcement, and enhanced means to protect themselves from health risks. Screening of the clients is a key aspect of keeping the sex workers safe. Screening the clients is a lot about reading people, their clothes, their attitude, how they hold themselves and trusting the experience of the worker s instinct. The screening process will not work every single time, however, the ability to make the decision to go with a client or not can save the workers life. Escorts and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Plato, Philosophy, And Philosophy Plato is philosophy, and philosophy, Plato. Ralph Waldo Emerson. This was the first quote I read regarding Plato when I first picked up the Great Dialogues of Plato, and turned it over to read the back cover. This quote struck me for some unknown reason and I instantly couldn t wait to begin reading the dialogues of Plato and begin to understand why he is regarded as one of the great philosophers. The first piece I read, was The Apology, spoken by the great philosopher Socrates and written down by his student Plato. The Apology was Socrates defense in the Athenian court against accusations that were falsely brought upon Socrates. The charges brought against Socrates was that he was a corruptor of the youth and that he believed in supernatural phenomena of his own invention rather than the gods of the state. At first, the dialogue was a smidge difficult for me to read, but as I began getting more involved in the reading and understanding more how Socrates talks, it became much easier to understand the content behind his words. Not once did Socrates beg and cry the jury for his life, but he rather defended his philosophy. While reading The Apology by Socrates, I learned many things, the most notable being: it is important to know oneself, wisdom does not come from specialized knowledge, and that one should focus on the pursuit of truth and of improving of one s soul. Perhaps the most important of messages I took away from Socrates The Apology, is the notion of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is now two years after I graduated high school and I am questioning the world more now than ever. I have heard of new studies showing that eating meat is not just harming innocent animals. It s harming humans and the environment as a whole. Over the past year, I have been trying to reduce my footprint on this earth. After hearing a few shocking facts, it was enough to push me to the next step to becoming a vegetarian. Since at the moment I am going off a few facts, I wanted to dig further and find the truth.
