Examples Of Love At First Sight Essay
Is Love at First Sight Possible?
Love at first sight is the experience of starting to be in love with someone as soon as you see them for
the first time. To a large extent, love at first sight is possible to start a relationship but not possible to
maintain a relationship in a long run.
Love at first sight involve passion, which is recognized as one of the components of love. Eros, one of
the six love style suggested by John Alan Lee (1976) in the color wheel theory of love, is defined as
passionate love. Strong physical and/or emotional attraction is the basis of such kind of love style.
Later research on this theory of love by Clyde and Susan Hendrick (1986) also suggested six love
attitude scales using factor analysis, supporting the existence ... Show more content on

Study shown that couples who want to make their relationship permanent (e.g. through marriage) tend
to have higher level of commitment than passion, while couples who never thought to make their
relationship permanent tend to have higher level of passion (Gonzaga, Turner, Keltner, Campos,
2006). This shows that commitment is a much important factor when transforming people s bonding
to a long term relationship, but not passion. Even if dating couples are married base on the infatuation,
such passionate love may not last long. As love at first sight is a kind of love that only involves intense
passion, people may idealize their partner when getting along with each other (Ben Ze ev, 2000),
which means people are often in love with the idealized image but not the real one. However, such
situation may not hold long. Study found that the amount of passion between couples who had
intensely passionate courtships decline very quickly over the first twenty four months after reaching
the peak level due to marriage (Niehuis, Reifman, Feng, Huston, 2014). Once the passion fade and the
couple still did not develop sufficient level of intimacy and commitment, which is an important factor
for long term relationship (Sternberg, 2007), to maintain their bonding, the couple may divorce. These
research studies reflect that although love at first sight has

Grape Research Papers
Grapes
A grape is a fruiting berry of the deciduous vines. Grapes can be eaten raw or they can be used for
making wine, jam, juice, jelly, grape raisins, vinegar, and grape seed oil. Spanish explorers introduced
the fruit to America about 300 years ago. There are more than 8,000 grape varieties from 60 species.
There are many colors of grapes the colors are, green, red, black, yellow, pink, and purple. The white
grapes are actually green. One important product that grapes are made into is grape juice. Thomas
Bramwell Welch was the inventor of the pasteurization process for the prevention of the fermentation
of grape juice. Grape juice is obtained from crushing and bleeding grapes into a liquid. Grape juice is

Wine was invented between 6000 and 5000 BC. Winemaking can be divided into two general
categories: still wine production and sparkling wine production. The people that make the wine are
called vintners or winemakers. A Vineyard is a plantation of grapevines and at the vineyard they use
the grapevines to make the grape juice. Then they make the grape juice into wine. The harvesting of
wine grapes is one of the most serious step in the process of winemaking. The time of harvest is
determined by the ripeness of the grape measured by sugar acid that are in the grapes. Also the weather
can affect the time of harvesting the grapes. With the threat of heat, rain, hail, and frost which can
damage the grapes and bring various vine diseases. Harvest season falls between August and October
in the Northern hemisphere and February and April in the Southern hemisphere. Making grapes into
wine is a long process. The first step is to harvest the grapes by picking them by hand. Then, the
grapes are sent to the winery. Next, the grapes are brought to the machine to be crushed. Then, the
next step is pressing the skin seeds and any other non juice items from the juice. The next step is
fermentation in this step the grape juice is turned into alcohol. Then, the second to last step is aging,
aging is when the wine is put into oak barrels. The last step is bottling the wine and labeling the

Persuasive Essay On Gender Selection
Technology s changes and developments over the course of history provide today s generation with
many exquisite tools and resources. Due to technological developments such as ultrasounds, parents
are now able to know the gender of their baby months before he or she is born. However, recent
advancements have provided parents with another opportunity: gender selection. It is now possible for
people to select what gender their child will be. Though there may be some instances in which gender
selection seems reasonable, altering the gender of a baby can begin a dangerous pathway for
discrimination, gender imbalance, and parental acceptance. Gender selection is essentially made
possible by the separation of male producing sperm and female producing sperm. Gender Selection,
provided by Infobase Learning and Jackson State Community College, states that Ronald Ericsson
discovered that Y chromosome sperm swim faster than X chromosome sperm. By separating the
sperm based upon how fast they swam within test tubes, Ericsson could inseminate the desired sex
producing sperm (2). However, this method is only 50% effective. Flow cytometry, another technique
that uses fluorescent dye to differentiate the sperm, began being used in 1995. Because of differences
in the amount of DNA contained in the two types of sperm, the dye glows more brightly on X sperm
than on Y sperm, allowing equipment to separate them based on their level of fluorescence ( Gender
Selection 3). Though this

Contradiction Between the Theory of Evolution and the Bible
Charles Darwin was a British scientist who founded the theory of evolution and changed the way we
think about the natural world. Darwin was born on February 12, 1809 and lived during the Industrial
Revolution. As a child, Darwin initially planned to become a doctor, but his plan terminated when he
joined the five year expedition on the survey ship, the HMS Beagle, in 1831. In the expedition,
Darwin developed a theory and published a book call The Origin of Species. This book was the
beginning of what we know about evolution, and it was controversial. The book brought disputations
between devoted christians and darwinists on the validity of evolution. During that period of time,
most Europeans believed that the world was created by God in ... Show more content on

Due to the contradiction, a significant event happened in that past, and it was called the Scope Trial.
The Scope Trial was an American legal case in 1925 about a high school teacher, John Scopes,
teaching evolution. Teaching evolution violated Tennessee s Butler Act, which is an act that made it
unlawful to teach evolution in any state funded school, so he ended up in prison. John Scopes was just
a believer of evolution, but his belief brought him inconvenience and trouble, because evolution and
Christianity were two extreme sides that were not able to make peace and mediate. When Darwin
died, he took back what he said about the theory of evolution. He states, How I wish I had not
expressed my theory of evolution as I have done, (Moore). Darwin took his theory to his deathbed,
because he was attacked by the church for developing the theory of evolution. Although Darwin took
his theory back, but he had made us wanting to figure out whether evolution really occurred or not. To
determine the validity of evolution, there are different modern technologies now that are able to help
us decide if evolution really occurred or not. An example of this can be paleontology. Through
paleontology, scientists discovered a famous transitional form call Archaeopteryx. Archaeopteryx is
able to provide evidence of an evolutionary pathway from dinosaurs to birds. Using technologies,

Detroit Is Not A Blank Canvas
Some people believe that Detroit is comparable to a blank canvas. A place where an opportunity is
lurking right around the corner. They imagine it as a deserted place, in which a businessman can create
anything they dream of. However, the harsh reality is, Detroit is not a blank canvas. It has been
splattered with an era of prominence, scribbled on with the invention of the automobile, and engraved
with a history of racism and corruption. Although much of Detroit s glory has been stripped away,
there are still people who exist in the city s remnants. Actual people, with actual families, actual
homes, and actual lives. When outsiders talk about the city s revival, they are often forgetting about
these people, or the actual citizens of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many factors to point blame at when considering Detroit s failure. A city that was dependent
on manufacturing cars was bound to flounder when the factories moved elsewhere. Tensions among
races became prevalent throughout the city, ending with whites moving into the suburbs. Corruption
consumed the city s government, and the leaders led the city into the ground. The aftermath of these
actions have been thrown upon the people who stayed in the city of Detroit. These people are living in
unsafe conditions due to the fact crime rates are so high, and the police presence is so scarce. The
children are apart of a failing education system; the foundation of the buildings aren t up to public
health code, they have limited resources, and a lack of teachers willing to work. When talking about
the future of Detroit, where does one see the future for these people? Why is there a new hockey arena
being built, while the deteriorating schools are being left to fall apart? Large sums of money are being
poured into the city s assets, but the investors are forgetting the most important asset of Detroit, it s
people.
When talking about the endless opportunities Detroit has to offer, one common plan is the idea of
Detroit becoming a tourist city. Investors view downtown as a diverse entertainment district, with an
array of theatres, museums, casinos

Proof And The Burden Of Proof
The general definition of burden of proof is a duty imposed upon a civil or criminal defendant to
prove or disprove a disputed fact. There is more than one type of burden known to the law, a burden of
proof and the burden of adducing evidence. The burden of proof is also known as or referred to the
legal burden. Different terminology is sometimes used that emphasizes different characteristics of the
burden; the most common alternatives are the persuasive burden , the probative burden , the risk of
non persuasion and the fixed burden of proof . Legal burdens are allocated by rules of law and are
fixed at the beginning of the case. They do not shift during the course of a trial. The burden of
adducing evidence is also known as evidential burden. This refers to the obligation to adduce
sufficient evidence to raise an issue for the court to consider. Unlike a legal burden, an evidential
burden is merely an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Professor Ian Dennis quoted Roberts and Zuckerman s description of the presumption being a
standard, which helps to avoid wrongful convictions. It can also be said, presumption of innocence
serves as a protective tool against the risk of miscarriages of justice. This is because the main rationale
behind the presumption of innocence dictates, the outcome of wrongful conviction is regarded as a
significantly worse harm than wrongful acquittal . This is apparent, especially in cases that have a
broad offence that would be almost impossible for the accused to disprove. This can be seen in the
case of AG s Reference (No.4 of 2002) . Lord Bingham warned of the risk and the effect of unfair
conviction and stressed that it might be too impossible for the accused to prove that he had not taken
part in the illegal activities as required in S.11 (2) of the Terrorism Act 2000

Difference Between Sleep Drive And The Circadian Alerting...
Sleep is a complex phenomenon, best understood as the product of two intertwined biological systems
: the sleep drive and the circadian alerting system. The sleep drive is our biological need for sleep. The
sleep drive can be thought of as a tank that empties and fills throughout the course of a day, like the
gas tank in a car. When you sleep at night, the tank is filled with sleep. You awaken in the morning,
refueled and ready to drive through the day. The longer you drive through the day, the more the tank
depletes. By bedtime, the tank is on E ; it is empty and you must sleep to replenish it. The sleep drive
forces sleep, so that your tank can be refilled, and your biological sleep need is met. The circadian
alerting system

Franco s National Catholicism
Such outrageous exclusion has perpetuated itself in contemporary times through Franco s national
Catholicism and the post Franco Europeanization. It is in light of the latter that we can now
understand Goytisolo s words upon receiving the Cervantes Literary Prize: Cuando me dan un premio,
sospecho de mí mismo (El País, 2015). Such suspicion is indeed a well founded one, for his
recognition as a major writer on the account of the Spanish state has only come after the exclusion of
Iberia s Semitic roots by Franco s national Catholicism has been further secured through its
ideological replacement via a Eurocentric ideology whose self representation obfuscates in Asian and
African foundations.

An example of grammatical fiction would be the following one: suppose I go down the stairs and
stumble upon the last step. When asked why did I stumble I would be probably inclined to say
something along the lines of I thought there was another step there . My saying so, however, makes it
look as though I had the introspective moment in which I had the thought there is another step there .
As it happens, nevertheless, I probably did not have such conscious moment in which that thought
cross my mind. The grammatical appearance of my everyday uses of languages, though, makes it look
as if that was indeed the case. (Yebra, 2015:

Vietnam Political Changes
Vietnam was a long bloody stalemate that lasted from 1955 to 1975. In 1954 Vietnamese Nationalist
gained independence from French colonial rule. Communist formed in the north while a non
communist regime supported by America started in the south. The Vietcong from the north would
fight the south s regime and U.S soldiers for years. March 8, 1965 is when the first American troops
hit the ground. America got involved because we feared the spread of communism also known as the
domino effect. After spilling a lot of blood President Nixon knew people of America were upset. On

People were all dividing during the time of war. People who supported war were known as hawks and
people who disagreed with war were known as doves. Congress brought forth the some new laws in
War Powers Resolution, 1973. At the beginning of section 3 in War Powers Resolution it is stated The
president in every possible instance shall consult with congress before introducing United States

President Richard Nixon was in office when congress brought this forth. President Johnson announced
he wouldn t run for a second term in his Address to the Nation March 31, 1968. He talked about

Why Your Brand Should Be On Users
Why your brand should be on Snapchat...
When Snapchat first launched, it quickly gained a lot of bad press. In 2014, 4.6million of its user s
personal details were leaked, with usernames and partial phone numbers being made available online.
This was in addition to the controversy already being created by users who latched onto the quick
photo gone forever premise to share their personal moments... unfortunately for the app, it didn t take
long for others to recognise the ease of a screenshot. Suddenly Snapchat was being lambasted across
all media for poor security, enabling bullying and encouraging users to send images that they wouldn t
want shared.
I m not here to spark a debate over this well covered subject again. It s in the past. 2014 is a long time
ago in the digital landscape. I m here instead to convince those of you who still see Snapchat in this
light that things have changed. Better still, I m here to make you realise why you should be using
Snapchat for your brand.
To whet your appetite, here are a few Snapchat facts:
Snapchat s 100 million users share over 400 million Snaps daily. That is more than images being
loaded to either Facebook or Instagram
There is an average 9,000 Snaps being shared every second
Mark Zuckerberg has twice tried to purchase Snapchat, once for $1bn, and a second time for $3bn.
Both times the offers were rejected
Snapchat generates an average 10 billion video views per day
54% of Snapchat users will use the app daily

A Master Of The Rubik s Cube
If you or I were to choose a random toy, from a random child s toy collection, it is more likely that a
Rubik s Cube would be chosen than any other toy. In other words, the Hungarian originated cube is
the best selling toy in history ( The History of the Rubik s Cube. ), so the actuality that I became
infatuated with the gadget was somewhat likely. In what I believed at this stage in my life to be the
most prestigious honor possible, I set out to become a master of the Rubik s cube. My goal, as well as
the toy itself, would have never had been possible if it were not for a man named Ernő Rubik. The
Rubik s Cube credited inventor was born in 1944, in Budapest, Hungary. Rubik attended the Budapest
University of Technology and Economics, and studied to become an educator, and also studied
architecture. It is noted that Rubik was always looking for new, more exciting ways to present
information. It was 30 years after his birth that he began experimenting with this goal and accidentally
created the impossible; a solid cube (originally made of wood!) that would not fall apart if twisted or
turned. Rubik added colorful stickers. It took him well over a month to generate a solution that would
solve the puzzle every time, and less than a year later, he patented the cube, and gave it its original
name, the Magic Cube . Fast forward twenty four months later, and the toy was first sold in a
Budapest toyshop. ( The History of the Rubik s Cube. ) The cube caught the eye of Tom Kremer.

Social Injustice In 12 Angry Men
12 Angry Men
In the year 1957, the classic movie, 12 Angry Men (1957), was originally released in the United
States. This movie highlights the social injustice caused by racism throughout the country in the late
1950 s and into all of the 1960 s. As director Sidney Lumet s first movie, the plot follows Aristotle s
rule for dramatic structure nearly to a tee. The director s usage of Aristotle s rule for dramatic structure
creates an easily understood series of events that demonstrates what had happened during a first
degree murder case being relayed through the jury s deliberation. Through the method used for
revealing information, Lumet was able to successfully show the racism amongst many people in the
middle of the twentieth century. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The members of the jury were no exception. At least half of the members of the jury discriminated
against the defendant based off of the simple fact that these men believed him to be a criminal,
partially based off of the boy s father s criminal record and the boy s own criminal record, but mostly
stemming from the idea that he was a minority from the slums of New York City. The jurors all looked
at his previous record, but took his entire testimony with a grain of salt. Rather than listen to what the
boy had to say, the members of the jury focused on any of the other witnesses testimonies to put this
young man behind bars until his execution date.
These men were not a jury of his peers. Most of them came from at least the middle class. Most were
born and raised in the United States and had nothing that people would see as something to treat any
of them as lesser as people. Lastly, practically all of these men were at least twice this boy s age. The
motif kept resurfacing on how this boy s life was hanging in what should have been a jury of his peers,
rather it was hanging in the hands of twelve men that had very little to nothing in common with this

The Quran tells people what they should do to please God and how it will be on judgment day. It also
tells people how to worship God and how they should act towards other people. During the early

of Islam . It was about how there is one God and that Muhammad is the Prophet. It also included the
prayer rituals. Other parts of the pillar were about giving back to the community which included

fourteenth century, Mongols conquered Iran and Iraq and that s when the Abbasid Dynasty ended. In
this period the Muslim world lost many parts of its region such as Sicily and Spain. But Islam was still
spreading in regions like Africa and northern India. During the fifteenth and sixteenth century,
production and trade had become weaker in the Muslim world and stronger in western Europe.

entailed important changes well known to historians in the ways these peoples organized their lives,

Paranormal Sentimental Fiction In Horace Walpole s The...
This section will investigate the history and advancement behind paranormal sentimental fiction.
Paranormal sentimental fiction had its beginnings in the eighteenth century. An early noticeable novel
in this class was The Castle of Otranto composed by Horace Walpole. Walpole began an artistic
development somewhere down in riddle that increased quick drama and various imitators. He is by
and by for the most part associated with Strawberry Hill, the home he worked in Twickenham, South
West London where he resuscitated the Gothic type a few decades before his Victorian successors, and
for his Gothic novel, The Castle of Otranto.
The novel distributed in 1764 is regularly thought as the primary gothic novel, beginning an artistic
kind which would turn out to be exceptionally mainstream in the later eighteenth century and mid
nineteenth century. In this manner, Walpole, by augmentation, is apparently the antecedent to such
creators as Charles Maturin, Ann Radcliffe, Bram Stoker, Edgar Allan Poe and Daphne du Maurier. In
the introduction of the second release, Walpole makes a heuristic for perusing the novel which without
a doubt changes the way perusers are to see the novel until its end. He claims to blend the new and old
types of sentiment. The old sentiment is what is presently considered pre novel exposition a principle
component of such writing is their incredible style. There is enchantment, the otherworldly is
bottomless and they are absolutely mind boggling. The type of the new sentiment is the thing that the
books of the eighteenth century, when Walpole was composing, would ordinarily have resembled.
These books were reasonable; they were made to portray occasions and individuals as they truly were.
Walpole at that point, by attempting to blend these two classes, makes something new something
genuinely novel . He makes fabulous situations like protective caps tumbling from the sky, strolling
pictures, and so on and puts as far as anyone knows genuine individuals into these situations and lets
them to act in a genuine way. In doing as such, he viably enables fiction to develop in ways that it
would some way or another have not possessed the capacity to. Walpole presents many set pieces that

which is a six item 7 point bipolar scale that consist¬ently performed best across both hedonic and

India will, in the process, take over from Indonesia and Vietnam as Bajaj s biggest two wheeler market
over the next five years. As for the bigger goal of 30 per cent share in its global business, Bajaj s
annual two wheeler volumes here would have to be in the region of 10 million units annually.
Observers believe this could become a reality by 2020. At present, over four million units are in place
from its three units in Manesar (the largest with 1.6 million), the recently commissioned Rajasthan
plant and the newly identified site in Karnataka (with capacities of 1.2 million units each). The

Death Is The Worst Thing
There is one thing in this world that no one can escape, that everyone fears, and makes people who are
close to that person miserable, and that is death. Death is the worst thing that can ever happen to a
person, and is just as bad for the people who are close to them. There is an emptiness that comes with
the death of a loved one or someone close. That blankness in the world does something to the people
who encompass that person who passed. It changes people, whether it is for better or worse. Death is a
part of life and depending on how people are affected can dictate whether it will leave a positive or
negative change to their life and that conversion happened to me with the death of my mother, Fran. I
can recall the day it happened, like it was yesterday, the air had a certain emptiness to it. It felt cold,
barren, but it just felt like any normal rough day, where everything would not go your way. I arrived
home from hockey practice like I do every Thursday with my father and was ready to lay down before
I did my homework. Then we got the call and we bolted to the emergency room at Mercy Hospital.
The nurse took us into a waiting room and we heard the heartbreaking news from the physician and
the room went still. It was not a typical quiet but so quiet that you could almost hear your heart
pounding out of your chest. When we saw my Mother, and we shockingly gazed what the car crash
did to her it was a completely eye opening. This could not be your Mother; that is all

General Fund Enterprise Business System
Joseph Weiss (2012) tells us that planned organizational change is a process that moves companies
from a present state to a desired future state with the goal of enhancing their effectiveness. Yet the
process of changing can be painful and less than successful. This is the story of the USPFO for
California and their poor managing of two simultaneous transformational changes to the organization:
transitioning to the General Fund Enterprise Business System (GFEBS) and splitting and relocating
the organization to two distant locales. The strategic plan was ill fated and resulted in a
leadership/employee estrangement and a silent organizational civil war. The USPFO for CA needs to
focus on reestablishing trust and team building in order to become a functional organization again.
COMPANY OVERVIEW The USPFO for California has been located at Camp San Luis Obispo since
its establishment in 1928. Their mission is to provide financial, logistical and contractual support to
the California Army National Guard. The organization falls directly under the authority of The
Adjutant General (TAG) who answers to the Governor. There are four main divisions of the USPFO:
Comptroller, Logistics, Data Processing, and Contracting. The Comptroller Division encompasses,
Technician, Military, and Travel Pay, Budget and Fiscal (accounting), and Vendor Pay. Logistics
handles the ordering, issuing, warehousing and transportation of supplies. Data Processing deals with

Kahlo s Self-Portrait With Cropped Hair
Suffering is a consistent and main theme of Kahlo s paintings. She chose to reveal her inner side
through a number of self portraits. As such, the fundamental theme was herself, and the primary
reason for painting them was to record the reality in which she lived. As she said, I paint self portraits
because I am so often alone, because I am the subject I know best. She probably could perform an in
depth self analysis through a mirror as she spent several of her time alone lying in bed (Kettenmann
Andrea, 2002). Except for a few still lifes she painted before her death, most of Kahlo s paintings were
portraits of herself and her family and friends. Among her 200 or so pieces of work, 55 pieces were
her portraits. Her portraits have various ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She painted this piece to identify her identity as Mexican. For this painting, she was inspired by an
image of a mother breastfeeding her baby, which is one of her collections of art before Columbus.
Kahlo also continued to show her interest in her identity or existence, including her patriotism,
lineage, and family, which can be seen in My Grandparents, My Parents and I (1936) (Figure 11). In
this painting, she is emphasizing her existence through a young self, standing behind a small tree,
holding a ribbon connecting her grandparents and parents. Her lineage can be revealed by taking a
look at her genealogy. In the painting, Kahlo s maternal Indian grandfather and maternal Spanish
grandmother stand next to her mother. A European couple, who are her paternal grandparents, is next
to her father. Kahlo is expressing her dual lineage by painting two different backgrounds on the left
and right sides, and is drawing attention to her existence by describing herself as an insecure child.
The ribbon s knot in her hands indicates the encounter between her mother and father, her fateful
birth, a blood bonding. The painting can be considered a family portrait that symbolizes her identity,
ethnicity, tradition, and

The Congressional District Of Missouri
Congratulations! You are a 2018 congressional nominee for Missouri s 5th district. Missouri s 5th
district is home to the largest metro area on the central Great Plains. The 5th Congressional District of
Missouri includes most of Kansas City, the largest city in Missouri, plus Grandview, and the bulk of
Independence. In post 2010 census redistricting, rural Lafayette, Ray, and Saline counties were added.
If you want to successfully campaign here, you will have to know who to talk to, where to talk to
them, and what to say. You will also have to understand the district from the inside out. First,
understand who you are talking to and who you will potentially represent.

Sundays at the Chief s Stadium. You may want to go to visitkc.com to take a look at some upcoming
events to attend.
One place you would want to wander would be the Country Club Plaza. This area is full of stores,
restaurants, shoppers, arts, and is also right down the street from the University of Missouri Kansas
City. Year round you can make campaigns here because it is always the go to spot for many people of
Missouri s 5th district. Every Thanksgiving night, a special guest comes to flip the switch for the Plaza
Christmas Lights. Showing up on stage at this event would give you major face time as this event is
televised by every local station and news crew. Show your face at sporting events such as Chiefs
football games and Royals baseball games. Kansas City is a city that really supports their sports
teams. If you support them, they will support you. Go downtown and do some campaigning in front of

Chinese Foreign Relations During The Imperial Era
Among the plethora of events which have influenced modern China s foreign policy, the so called
century of humiliation holds particular sway. Also known as the hundred years of national humiliation
, it refers to the period of intervention and imperialism by western powers and Japan in China from
1839 to 1949. It has had a profound impact on how the decision makers in China have perceived the
world order since then and has heavily influenced China s policies on a strategic, political and military
front. During the imperial period, China s relations with its neighbours and people of other ethnic
groups was heavily clouded by Sino centrism and a concept of Chinese superiority through the tribute
system (John K Fairbank). Although ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Defeats in wars led to harsh treaties, territorial loss, repeated episodes of foreign barbarism, waning of
Chinese influence in many areas in Asia and exploitation of its rights by foreign powers. Starting from
the first Opium War, China experienced military defeats and loss of its territory and influence in Asia.
This experience made the Chinese people aware that China was inferior to the foreign powers (1968
Lucian). China s defeat in the Sino Japanese war sent a great tremor among the Chinese people. It was
perhaps the final nail in the coffin of the century of humiliation as Japan was always regarded as a
tributary or inferior barbarian country by the Chinese. All this led to a belief in the need of self
strengthening and intensifying its military by enriching the country and importing western technology
to fit itself to the new world order with effective diplomacy in order to maintain its national security,
leverage and status. From 1860 to 1896, the Self Strengtheners tried to draw western expertise and
technology to strengthen China militarily (The legacy of the past).
This time period also led them to understand the need of allying with other countries in order to
survive. For example, memories of Japanese atrocities led to the Chinese alliance with the USSR in
1949 and again normalizing relations with Russia in the 1980 s as Japan re emerged as a

Similarities Between I Have A Dream And A Raisin In The Sun
A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry has many similarities to the Martin Luther King, Jr. I Have
a Dream speech. Some similarities in both the speech and the book are that there are promises that are
not fulfilled, they are both trying to achieve the American Dream, they both care about the future of
their children, and they both have dealt with obstacles in their quest for freedom. In the speech it states
...America has given the Negro people a bad check, a check which has come back marked insufficient
funds . (King). King is saying that all of them have had promises made to them that have not been
fulfilled and how the Negro population has been lied to by America saying that all are created equal
and that anything is possible which is not true to them. This connects to A Raisin in the Sun because in
the story the Youngers do not have the same opportunities as white people. Walter has to work as a
chauffeur for white people and he has bigger dreams than doing this for a job. This is the only
opportunity available to him that enables him to provide for the needs of his family though. This
would be possible if people were treated equally. In both pieces of writing, they have an American
Dream that they are trying to achieve. King wants all men to be treated equally as they have been
created equally. He says I say to you tomorrow, my friends, so even though we face the difficulties of
today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It s a dream deeply rooted in the

Water Mifflin Hall, Well Water Wyckoff And Stream Water...
The data from the TDS analysis (table 2) show that tap water Mifflin hall, well water Wyckoff and
stream water Raleigh has a higher amount of total dissolved solid compared to tap water Harleysville
and Tap water Yosemite that have a low amount of total dissolved solid. From these observations, we
can conclude that tap water Harleysville and tap water are softer than Yosemite tap water Mifflin Hall,
well water Wyckoff and stream Water Raleigh. The Results from ETDA (table 7) show that tap water
Mifflin Hall (400 ppm) is hardest than the four other water samples. It is followed by tap water
Harleysville (340 ppm), well Water Wyckoff (320 ppm), Stream Water Raleigh (110 ppm) and Tap
water Yosemite (80 ppm). This order supports my hypothesis. Tap water Yosemite is relatively soft
compared to the other water samples. I have predicted my sample to be the hardness and tap water
Yosemite to be the softest. Also, these results support my hypothesis in the assumption that they show
that stream water Raleigh is moderately hard as expected. Nevertheless, I expected tap water Yosemite
to be relatively soft but the data show that it is moderately hard. In fact, I assumed that tap water
Yosemite would be slightly hard because in California ground water is stored in alluvium. They are
made up of loose gravel, sands, and silts and they contain a very low concentration of divalent cations.
Maybe the fact that rocks vary from the state of California due to the difference in geology might

The Concept Of Smart Grids Design
In order to identify one major issue in smart grids design, we propose a thought experiment: what if
we could built a smart power supply system from scratch? Would we rely on existing concepts, or we
would adopt a radically different approach? Imagine this new, technologically advanced, country
called Newlandia. Newlandia may or may not be particularly rich with energy generating natural
resources and has never had a power supply system. However, Newlandia enjoys major benefits: it is
free from political hurdles, existing infrastructure from other producers, and technological and
financial limitations, giving the designers unlimited choices and a single objective in mind: design a
reliable power system. Since the authors of this assignment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

At first glance this makes much more sense in remote areas where grid connections are impractical or
economically infeasible to built. However this approach is even more promising in urban areas. In
Newlandia, electric cars are the new normal, which will not be an outlandish stretch of the
imagination in the real world in 20 30 years. Each day, car owners would come home from work, turn
on the lights, put the kettle on, turn the oven on to make dinner and of course, plug in their car. This
will dramatically increase peak power demand, which is practically impossible to supply by using
nuclear or coal plants for example, or alternatively, many more plants would have to be built. In such
scenario, probably the classical, centralised power supply system is not the optimal option. But if we
were to chose the distributed approach, what would be the main obstacle when it comes to realising
this vision? The answer, we believe, lies in energy storage. Energy storage is the only link in the chain
that has the potential to partially or even completely eliminate the challenges of power grid design.
These include, but are not limited to, distributed deployment of renewable energy, energy
intermittency, transmission congestion, frequency/voltage regulation, growth of loads on feeders,
power quality

I am not throwing away my shot! Alexander Hamilton was one of our founding fathers, he was an
important part of history. He aided George Washington many times, becoming his right hand man. He
took chances away from Aaron Burr, and prevented him from becoming president. Most importantly,
he was shot by Aaron Burr in a duel. Alexander aided George Washington until his 1783 resignation
from being president. Hamilton became Washington s aid in 1777, writing many things for him. He let
Hamilton lead troops in The Battle of Yorktown. Alexander wrote George s farewell address for him in
1796. He did not want to run for another term, which allowed Burr and Jefferson to run for president.

Post Learning Sleep Improves Cognitive Emotional Decision...
Have you ever been told to sleep on it when confronted with a serious decision? The study done by
Seeley, C. J., Beninger, R. J., Smith, C. T. titled Post Learning Sleep Improves Cognitive Emotional
Decision Making: Evidence for a Deck B Sleep Effect in the Iowa Gambling Task sets out to answer if
sleeping helps improve decision making. For this study, they used the Iowa Gambling Task (IGT) on
participants. After the IGT, participants had 12 hours of being awake, 12 hours of sleep, or 12 hours of
sleep followed by 12 hours of being awake before taking the IGT again. This experiment is important
because it would show if we make better decisions after sleeping on it. For important decisions, such
as laws, business decisions, and even jury decisions, we want the best results, and sleeping on these
decisions may provide better results. The main questions the researchers tried to answer were when
starting out do people choose the deck with a more constant chance of winning, when learning more
about the game do people change their choices, and does sleeping after the first session improve the
participant s performance in the next session. Their hypothesis, based on their previous experiments,
was that initially more participants would choose from decks B and D, but after they learn more about
the game they will start to choose more cards from decks C and D. They also hypothesized that
sleeping after learning about the game would improve their results for the next

How did the US involvement in the Vietnam War Impacted the US Socially, Economically, and

Again, the United States have learned a lesson from the Vietnamese feared rebellions happening in the
United States among themselves again. To prevent that from happening, America actions and
understanding were based on the media and information being delivered appropriately by the
government of the country. The Vietnam War did not only have caused unrest among the United States
civilians, but the war resulted in the depreciation of America s economy. Due to the war s demands in
supplies, there were enormous amounts of negative imbalances in the industrial sector. Industries that
manufacture goods such as agricultural products, capital goods, and consumer goods have been
prevented from manufacturing the product to meet the population s needs.
(http://www.historycentral.com/) The Factories were unable to manufacture goods and ship it to their
people. This is because the factories that were trying to manufacture the consumer s goods had to shift
their responsibility towards catering and producing goods to met the demands of the military instead.
Additionally, the unnecessary military spending, and the diversion of funds oversea resulted in the
depreciation of the United States dollars. There were no equivalent funds or offers coming into the
country, so the United States withdrawn themselves from improving their countries areas to military

of the worlds water usage is in agricultural areas which, raises the question in many countries is how
do we govern or monitor agricultural water usage. Often many countries use a code system for Water

and Chile s water usage in agricultural sectors. The Riparian law states to guide: the right of access to

Being Earnes
Many people have not experienced the unique work of art known as a farce. After witnessing The
Importance of Being Earnest, I have determined that a farce and a comedy can be described as
opposite to a certain extent. A farce is ordinary people in a strange situation, while a comedy is unique
people in an ordinary situation. Although not all people may see it this way, this is how I perceived
Oscar Wilde s classic which was clearly very ahead of its time. Richard Robichaux directed this work
of art at the Pavillion Theatre from April 12 23 and focused on several particular elements/themes
which build on each other in order to celebrate the comedic and historical genius of Wilde s original
work. More specifically, the play focuses on the notion of marriage and its greater role in society, the
role of visual objects such as food and how they hold a much larger importance than they originally
seem, and finally the use of puns in order to describe and envision Victorian society and delve into
what the characters are actually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One that particularly struck me as quite obvious was the use of earnest/Ernest on multiple occasions.
This pun is quite symbolic because of the fact that it describes Victorian society norms. Cecily and
Gwendolen both aim to marry a man with the name Ernest even though she doesn t quite understand
what the meaning of the word earnest and what it holds in Victorian society. Earnest means
seriousness and respect in this society, but these are not the reasons Gwendolen wants to marry a man
with this name. It turns out that neither man was earnest or had the name Ernest, although Gwendolen
is quick to forgive. Wilde is trying to show the audience that anyone who describes themselves as
Ernest is being deceptive, but at the same time shows that the social norms of Victorian society are
described in the meaning of the

Home Ownership In America
THE DESIRE FOR HOME OWNERSHIP
One of the most powerful motivating forces behind the movement of people from
Europe and elsewhere to the United States, and from the east to the west within the
United States, has been the desire to own property and a home of one s own. In fact, this society is
distinctive in how widespread home ownership is here.
It s easy enough to understand why immigrants to America wanted to own land.
Many of them were unable to own land in their countries of origin, and America of fered not only
private ownership, but in many cases and for some time very inex pensive land, along with the
freedom to enjoy it. Why, then, has this desire to own real property persisted through the generations?

Prediagnosis Of Parkinson
Almost a million Americans have Parkinson s disease, a common neurological degenerative disease
that causes loss in motor functions. Costing up to 25 Billion dollars a year in the US alone, there are
on average about 60,000 individuals that are diagnosed each year. However, with many cases going
undetected, the number is expected to rise, as the 21st century progresses. Scientists and doctors are
pulling together many resources to slow the progression of this devastating disorder; and now it is
known (although there is not cure), that there are certain genes that correspond with the Parkinson s
disorder. Although many have claimed that these genes show an accurate pre diagnosis of the disease,
there has been much debate on whether the testing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unless diagnosed individuals are wealthy, they will not be able to pay the 100,000 dollar cost per
patient. With treatment this expensive, many families are either unable to pay the price, preventative
treatment seems far from ideal. Also, unlike breast cancer or other controversial diseases with pre
diagnosis available, Parkinson s is impossible to prevent. There is absolutely no known cure for the
disease, only measures to slow down the degredation of the body and additional pain killers are
available. Learning that you will most likely have the disease and the symptoms will progress may
help the individual make potential better choices financially, however the emotional distress that is
caused by the pre diagnosis and potential higher cost due to a longer treatment plan is counter intuitive
for the patient. As the American Society of Clinical Oncology states in its principles of Genetic
testing; 1) the individual has personal or family history features suggestive of a genetic cancer
susceptibility condition, 2) the test can be adequately interpreted, and 3) the results will aid in
diagnosis or influence the medical or surgical management of the patient or family members at
hereditary risk of cancer. Although the Parkinson s pre diagnosis can aid with the first two principles,
the Parkinson s disease is not fit because whether or not the genetic predisposition is known, the
prevention of the disease is impossible

The Relationship Between Regular Participation During The...
Introduction The purpose of this research study was to examine the relationship between regular
participation in the 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CCLC) afterschool programs and
academic achievement as determined by changes in standardized test scores, and district benchmarks
in Language Arts and Mathematics. Specifically, this study examined whether there were differences
in rates of school attendance, measures of academic achievement, and number of discipline referrals
for students who attended the after school program regularly for two years as compared to students
who did not attend the after school program regularly. A quasi experimental study was used for this
research. This chapter includes conclusions, summary of results, and action plan/recommendations. In
the final section of this chapter the researcher will provide prescriptive suggestions and
recommendations for future research. Summary of Results The data from 120 fourth grade and 120
fifth grade students were used in this study (Tables 1.1 and 1.2). All data were archived from school
years 2010 2011 and 2011 2012 academic school years. The required consents from parents, school
district, and IRB of Kean University in New Jersey were obtained. The results of this study indicated
that the 21st CCLC afterschool programs proved to be significant in improving two of the five target

  • 2. Examples Of Love At First Sight Essay Is Love at First Sight Possible? Love at first sight is the experience of starting to be in love with someone as soon as you see them for the first time. To a large extent, love at first sight is possible to start a relationship but not possible to maintain a relationship in a long run. Love at first sight involve passion, which is recognized as one of the components of love. Eros, one of the six love style suggested by John Alan Lee (1976) in the color wheel theory of love, is defined as passionate love. Strong physical and/or emotional attraction is the basis of such kind of love style. Later research on this theory of love by Clyde and Susan Hendrick (1986) also suggested six love attitude scales using factor analysis, supporting the existence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Study shown that couples who want to make their relationship permanent (e.g. through marriage) tend to have higher level of commitment than passion, while couples who never thought to make their relationship permanent tend to have higher level of passion (Gonzaga, Turner, Keltner, Campos, 2006). This shows that commitment is a much important factor when transforming people s bonding to a long term relationship, but not passion. Even if dating couples are married base on the infatuation, such passionate love may not last long. As love at first sight is a kind of love that only involves intense passion, people may idealize their partner when getting along with each other (Ben Ze ev, 2000), which means people are often in love with the idealized image but not the real one. However, such situation may not hold long. Study found that the amount of passion between couples who had intensely passionate courtships decline very quickly over the first twenty four months after reaching the peak level due to marriage (Niehuis, Reifman, Feng, Huston, 2014). Once the passion fade and the couple still did not develop sufficient level of intimacy and commitment, which is an important factor for long term relationship (Sternberg, 2007), to maintain their bonding, the couple may divorce. These research studies reflect that although love at first sight has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Grapes can be eaten raw or they can be used for making wine, jam, juice, jelly, grape raisins, vinegar, and grape seed oil. Spanish explorers introduced the fruit to America about 300 years ago. There are more than 8,000 grape varieties from 60 species. There are many colors of grapes the colors are, green, red, black, yellow, pink, and purple. The white grapes are actually green. One important product that grapes are made into is grape juice. Thomas Bramwell Welch was the inventor of the pasteurization process for the prevention of the fermentation of grape juice. Grape juice is obtained from crushing and bleeding grapes into a liquid. Grape juice is usually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wine was invented between 6000 and 5000 BC. Winemaking can be divided into two general categories: still wine production and sparkling wine production. The people that make the wine are called vintners or winemakers. A Vineyard is a plantation of grapevines and at the vineyard they use the grapevines to make the grape juice. Then they make the grape juice into wine. The harvesting of wine grapes is one of the most serious step in the process of winemaking. The time of harvest is determined by the ripeness of the grape measured by sugar acid that are in the grapes. Also the weather can affect the time of harvesting the grapes. With the threat of heat, rain, hail, and frost which can damage the grapes and bring various vine diseases. Harvest season falls between August and October in the Northern hemisphere and February and April in the Southern hemisphere. Making grapes into wine is a long process. The first step is to harvest the grapes by picking them by hand. Then, the grapes are sent to the winery. Next, the grapes are brought to the machine to be crushed. Then, the next step is pressing the skin seeds and any other non juice items from the juice. The next step is fermentation in this step the grape juice is turned into alcohol. • 4. Persuasive Essay On Gender Selection Technology s changes and developments over the course of history provide today s generation with many exquisite tools and resources. Due to technological developments such as ultrasounds, parents are now able to know the gender of their baby months before he or she is born. However, recent advancements have provided parents with another opportunity: gender selection. It is now possible for people to select what gender their child will be. Though there may be some instances in which gender selection seems reasonable, altering the gender of a baby can begin a dangerous pathway for discrimination, gender imbalance, and parental acceptance. Gender selection is essentially made possible by the separation of male producing sperm and female producing sperm. Gender Selection, provided by Infobase Learning and Jackson State Community College, states that Ronald Ericsson discovered that Y chromosome sperm swim faster than X chromosome sperm. By separating the sperm based upon how fast they swam within test tubes, Ericsson could inseminate the desired sex producing sperm (2). However, this method is only 50% effective. Flow cytometry, another technique that uses fluorescent dye to differentiate the sperm, began being used in 1995. Because of differences in the amount of DNA contained in the two types of sperm, the dye glows more brightly on X sperm than on Y sperm, allowing equipment to separate them based on their level of fluorescence ( Gender Selection 3). Though this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Contradiction Between the Theory of Evolution and the Bible Charles Darwin was a British scientist who founded the theory of evolution and changed the way we think about the natural world. Darwin was born on February 12, 1809 and lived during the Industrial Revolution. As a child, Darwin initially planned to become a doctor, but his plan terminated when he joined the five year expedition on the survey ship, the HMS Beagle, in 1831. In the expedition, Darwin developed a theory and published a book call The Origin of Species. This book was the beginning of what we know about evolution, and it was controversial. The book brought disputations between devoted christians and darwinists on the validity of evolution. During that period of time, most Europeans believed that the world was created by God in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Due to the contradiction, a significant event happened in that past, and it was called the Scope Trial. The Scope Trial was an American legal case in 1925 about a high school teacher, John Scopes, teaching evolution. Teaching evolution violated Tennessee s Butler Act, which is an act that made it unlawful to teach evolution in any state funded school, so he ended up in prison. John Scopes was just a believer of evolution, but his belief brought him inconvenience and trouble, because evolution and Christianity were two extreme sides that were not able to make peace and mediate. When Darwin died, he took back what he said about the theory of evolution. He states, How I wish I had not expressed my theory of evolution as I have done, (Moore). Darwin took his theory to his deathbed, because he was attacked by the church for developing the theory of evolution. Although Darwin took his theory back, but he had made us wanting to figure out whether evolution really occurred or not. To determine the validity of evolution, there are different modern technologies now that are able to help us decide if evolution really occurred or not. An example of this can be paleontology. Through paleontology, scientists discovered a famous transitional form call Archaeopteryx. Archaeopteryx is able to provide evidence of an evolutionary pathway from dinosaurs to birds. • 6. Detroit Is Not A Blank Canvas Some people believe that Detroit is comparable to a blank canvas. A place where an opportunity is lurking right around the corner. They imagine it as a deserted place, in which a businessman can create anything they dream of. However, the harsh reality is, Detroit is not a blank canvas. It has been splattered with an era of prominence, scribbled on with the invention of the automobile, and engraved with a history of racism and corruption. Although much of Detroit s glory has been stripped away, there are still people who exist in the city s remnants. Actual people, with actual families, actual homes, and actual lives. When outsiders talk about the city s revival, they are often forgetting about these people, or the actual citizens of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are many factors to point blame at when considering Detroit s failure. A city that was dependent on manufacturing cars was bound to flounder when the factories moved elsewhere. Tensions among races became prevalent throughout the city, ending with whites moving into the suburbs. Corruption consumed the city s government, and the leaders led the city into the ground. The aftermath of these actions have been thrown upon the people who stayed in the city of Detroit. These people are living in unsafe conditions due to the fact crime rates are so high, and the police presence is so scarce. The children are apart of a failing education system; the foundation of the buildings aren t up to public health code, they have limited resources, and a lack of teachers willing to work. When talking about the future of Detroit, where does one see the future for these people? Why is there a new hockey arena being built, while the deteriorating schools are being left to fall apart? Large sums of money are being poured into the city s assets, but the investors are forgetting the most important asset of Detroit, it s people. When talking about the endless opportunities Detroit has to offer, one common plan is the idea of Detroit becoming a tourist city. Investors view downtown as a diverse entertainment district, with an array of theatres, museums, casinos ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Proof And The Burden Of Proof The general definition of burden of proof is a duty imposed upon a civil or criminal defendant to prove or disprove a disputed fact. There is more than one type of burden known to the law, a burden of proof and the burden of adducing evidence. The burden of proof is also known as or referred to the legal burden. Different terminology is sometimes used that emphasizes different characteristics of the burden; the most common alternatives are the persuasive burden , the probative burden , the risk of non persuasion and the fixed burden of proof . Legal burdens are allocated by rules of law and are fixed at the beginning of the case. They do not shift during the course of a trial. The burden of adducing evidence is also known as evidential burden. This refers to the obligation to adduce sufficient evidence to raise an issue for the court to consider. Professor Ian Dennis quoted Roberts and Zuckerman s description of the presumption being a standard, which helps to avoid wrongful convictions. It can also be said, presumption of innocence serves as a protective tool against the risk of miscarriages of justice. This is because the main rationale behind the presumption of innocence dictates, the outcome of wrongful conviction is regarded as a significantly worse harm than wrongful acquittal . This is apparent, especially in cases that have a broad offence that would be almost impossible for the accused to disprove. This can be seen in the case of AG s Reference (No.4 of 2002) . Lord Bingham warned of the risk and the effect of unfair conviction and stressed that it might be too impossible for the accused to prove that he had not taken part in the illegal activities as required in S.11 (2) of the Terrorism Act 2000 ... • 8. Difference Between Sleep Drive And The Circadian Alerting... Sleep is a complex phenomenon, best understood as the product of two intertwined biological systems : the sleep drive and the circadian alerting system. The sleep drive is our biological need for sleep. The sleep drive can be thought of as a tank that empties and fills throughout the course of a day, like the gas tank in a car. When you sleep at night, the tank is filled with sleep. You awaken in the morning, refueled and ready to drive through the day. The longer you drive through the day, the more the tank depletes. Such suspicion is indeed a well founded one, for his recognition as a major writer on the account of the Spanish state has only come after the exclusion of Iberia s Semitic roots by Franco s national Catholicism has been further secured through its ideological replacement via a Eurocentric ideology whose self representation obfuscates in Asian and African foundations. • 18. Paranormal Sentimental Fiction In Horace Walpole s The... This section will investigate the history and advancement behind paranormal sentimental fiction. Paranormal sentimental fiction had its beginnings in the eighteenth century. An early noticeable novel in this class was The Castle of Otranto composed by Horace Walpole. Walpole began an artistic development somewhere down in riddle that increased quick drama and various imitators. He is by and by for the most part associated with Strawberry Hill, the home he worked in Twickenham, South West London where he resuscitated the Gothic type a few decades before his Victorian successors, and for his Gothic novel, The Castle of Otranto. The novel distributed in 1764 is regularly thought as the primary gothic novel, beginning an artistic kind which would turn out to be exceptionally mainstream in the later eighteenth century and mid nineteenth century. In this manner, Walpole, by augmentation, is apparently the antecedent to such creators as Charles Maturin, Ann Radcliffe, Bram Stoker, Edgar Allan Poe and Daphne du Maurier. In the introduction of the second release, Walpole makes a heuristic for perusing the novel which without a doubt changes the way perusers are to see the novel until its end. He claims to blend the new and old types of sentiment. The old sentiment is what is presently considered pre novel exposition a principle component of such writing is their incredible style. There is enchantment, the otherworldly is bottomless and they are absolutely mind boggling. The type of the new sentiment is the thing that the books of the eighteenth century, when Walpole was composing, would ordinarily have resembled. These books were reasonable; they were made to portray occasions and individuals as they truly were. Walpole at that point, by attempting to blend these two classes, makes something new something genuinely novel . He makes fabulous situations like protective caps tumbling from the sky, strolling pictures, and so on and puts as far as anyone knows genuine individuals into these situations and lets them to act in a genuine way. In doing as such, he viably enables fiction to develop in ways that it would some way or another have not possessed the capacity to. Walpole presents many set pieces that ... Also known as the hundred years of national humiliation , it refers to the period of intervention and imperialism by western powers and Japan in China from 1839 to 1949. It has had a profound impact on how the decision makers in China have perceived the world order since then and has heavily influenced China s policies on a strategic, political and military front. Defeats in wars led to harsh treaties, territorial loss, repeated episodes of foreign barbarism, waning of Chinese influence in many areas in Asia and exploitation of its rights by foreign powers. Starting from the first Opium War, China experienced military defeats and loss of its territory and influence in Asia. This experience made the Chinese people aware that China was inferior to the foreign powers (1968 Lucian). China s defeat in the Sino Japanese war sent a great tremor among the Chinese people. It was perhaps the final nail in the coffin of the century of humiliation as Japan was always regarded as a tributary or inferior barbarian country by the Chinese. All this led to a belief in the need of self strengthening and intensifying its military by enriching the country and importing western technology to fit itself to the new world order with effective diplomacy in order to maintain its national security, leverage and status. Some similarities in both the speech and the book are that there are promises that are not fulfilled, they are both trying to achieve the American Dream, they both care about the future of their children, and they both have dealt with obstacles in their quest for freedom. In the speech it states ...America has given the Negro people a bad check, a check which has come back marked insufficient funds . (King). King is saying that all of them have had promises made to them that have not been fulfilled and how the Negro population has been lied to by America saying that all are created equal and that anything is possible which is not true to them. In Newlandia, electric cars are the new normal, which will not be an outlandish stretch of the imagination in the real world in 20 30 years. Each day, car owners would come home from work, turn on the lights, put the kettle on, turn the oven on to make dinner and of course, plug in their car. This will dramatically increase peak power demand, which is practically impossible to supply by using nuclear or coal plants for example, or alternatively, many more plants would have to be built. In such scenario, probably the classical, centralised power supply system is not the optimal option. But if we were to chose the distributed approach, what would be the main obstacle when it comes to realising this vision? The answer, we believe, lies in energy storage. Energy storage is the only link in the chain that has the potential to partially or even completely eliminate the challenges of power grid design. These include, but are not limited to, distributed deployment of renewable energy, energy intermittency, transmission congestion, frequency/voltage regulation, growth of loads on feeders, power quality ... • 31. Post Learning Sleep Improves Cognitive Emotional Decision... Have you ever been told to sleep on it when confronted with a serious decision? The study done by Seeley, C. J., Beninger, R. J., Smith, C. T. titled Post Learning Sleep Improves Cognitive Emotional Decision Making: Evidence for a Deck B Sleep Effect in the Iowa Gambling Task sets out to answer if sleeping helps improve decision making. For this study, they used the Iowa Gambling Task (IGT) on participants. After the IGT, participants had 12 hours of being awake, 12 hours of sleep, or 12 hours of sleep followed by 12 hours of being awake before taking the IGT again. This experiment is important because it would show if we make better decisions after sleeping on it. For important decisions, such as laws, business decisions, and even jury decisions, we want the best results, and sleeping on these decisions may provide better results. The main questions the researchers tried to answer were when starting out do people choose the deck with a more constant chance of winning, when learning more about the game do people change their choices, and does sleeping after the first session improve the participant s performance in the next session. Their hypothesis, based on their previous experiments, was that initially more participants would choose from decks B and D, but after they learn more about the game they will start to choose more cards from decks C and D. They also hypothesized that sleeping after learning about the game would improve their results for the next ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Again, the United States have learned a lesson from the Vietnamese feared rebellions happening in the United States among themselves again. To prevent that from happening, America actions and understanding were based on the media and information being delivered appropriately by the government of the country. The Vietnam War did not only have caused unrest among the United States civilians, but the war resulted in the depreciation of America s economy. Due to the war s demands in supplies, there were enormous amounts of negative imbalances in the industrial sector. Industries that manufacture goods such as agricultural products, capital goods, and consumer goods have been prevented from manufacturing the product to meet the population s needs. (http://www.historycentral.com/) The Factories were unable to manufacture goods and ship it to their people. This is because the factories that were trying to manufacture the consumer s goods had to shift their responsibility towards catering and producing goods to met the demands of the military instead. Additionally, the unnecessary military spending, and the diversion of funds oversea resulted in the depreciation of the United States dollars. There were no equivalent funds or offers coming into the country, so the United States withdrawn themselves from improving their countries areas to military households and ... • 34. Being Earnes Many people have not experienced the unique work of art known as a farce. After witnessing The Importance of Being Earnest, I have determined that a farce and a comedy can be described as opposite to a certain extent. A farce is ordinary people in a strange situation, while a comedy is unique people in an ordinary situation. Although not all people may see it this way, this is how I perceived Oscar Wilde s classic which was clearly very ahead of its time. Richard Robichaux directed this work of art at the Pavillion Theatre from April 12 23 and focused on several particular elements/themes which build on each other in order to celebrate the comedic and historical genius of Wilde s original work. More specifically, the play focuses on the notion of marriage and its greater role in society, the role of visual objects such as food and how they hold a much larger importance than they originally seem, and finally the use of puns in order to describe and envision Victorian society and delve into what the characters are actually ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One that particularly struck me as quite obvious was the use of earnest/Ernest on multiple occasions. This pun is quite symbolic because of the fact that it describes Victorian society norms. Cecily and Gwendolen both aim to marry a man with the name Ernest even though she doesn t quite understand what the meaning of the word earnest and what it holds in Victorian society. Earnest means seriousness and respect in this society, but these are not the reasons Gwendolen wants to marry a man with this name. It turns out that neither man was earnest or had the name Ernest, although Gwendolen is quick to forgive. Wilde is trying to show the audience that anyone who describes themselves as Ernest is being deceptive, but at the same time shows that the social norms of Victorian society are described in the meaning of the ... Home Ownership In America THE DESIRE FOR HOME OWNERSHIP One of the most powerful motivating forces behind the movement of people from Europe and elsewhere to the United States, and from the east to the west within the United States, has been the desire to own property and a home of one s own. In fact, this society is distinctive in how widespread home ownership is here. It s easy enough to understand why immigrants to America wanted to own land. Many of them were unable to own land in their countries of origin, and America of fered not only private ownership, but in many cases and for some time very inex pensive land, along with the freedom to enjoy it. • 37. Prediagnosis Of Parkinson Almost a million Americans have Parkinson s disease, a common neurological degenerative disease that causes loss in motor functions. Costing up to 25 Billion dollars a year in the US alone, there are on average about 60,000 individuals that are diagnosed each year. However, with many cases going undetected, the number is expected to rise, as the 21st century progresses. Scientists and doctors are pulling together many resources to slow the progression of this devastating disorder; and now it is known (although there is not cure), that there are certain genes that correspond with the Parkinson s disorder. Although many have claimed that these genes show an accurate pre diagnosis of the disease, there has been much debate on whether the testing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unless diagnosed individuals are wealthy, they will not be able to pay the 100,000 dollar cost per patient. With treatment this expensive, many families are either unable to pay the price, preventative treatment seems far from ideal. Also, unlike breast cancer or other controversial diseases with pre diagnosis available, Parkinson s is impossible to prevent. There is absolutely no known cure for the disease, only measures to slow down the degredation of the body and additional pain killers are available. Learning that you will most likely have the disease and the symptoms will progress may help the individual make potential better choices financially, however the emotional distress that is caused by the pre diagnosis and potential higher cost due to a longer treatment plan is counter intuitive for the patient. As the American Society of Clinical Oncology states in its principles of Genetic testing; 1) the individual has personal or family history features suggestive of a genetic cancer susceptibility condition, 2) the test can be adequately interpreted, and 3) the results will aid in diagnosis or influence the medical or surgical management of the patient or family members at hereditary risk of cancer. Although the Parkinson s pre diagnosis can aid with the first two principles, the Parkinson s disease is not fit because whether or not the genetic predisposition is known, the prevention of the disease is impossible ... • 38. The Relationship Between Regular Participation During The... Introduction The purpose of this research study was to examine the relationship between regular participation in the 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CCLC) afterschool programs and academic achievement as determined by changes in standardized test scores, and district benchmarks in Language Arts and Mathematics. Specifically, this study examined whether there were differences in rates of school attendance, measures of academic achievement, and number of discipline referrals for students who attended the after school program regularly for two years as compared to students who did not attend the after school program regularly. A quasi experimental study was used for this research. This chapter includes conclusions, summary of results, and action plan/recommendations. In the final section of this chapter the researcher will provide prescriptive suggestions and recommendations for future research. Summary of Results The data from 120 fourth grade and 120 fifth grade students were used in this study (Tables 1.1 and 1.2). All data were archived from school years 2010 2011 and 2011 2012 academic school years. The required consents from parents, school district, and IRB of Kean University in New Jersey were obtained. The results of this study indicated that the 21st CCLC afterschool programs proved to be significant in improving two of the five target areas, math and language arts.
