Intelligence, Surveillance, And Reconnaissance Operations
Introduction
The United States (US) Intelligence Community (IC) requires a succinct method for measuring the
collection effectiveness of Geospatial Intelligence (GEOINT) operations of both National Technical
Means (NTM) and airborne Sensitive Reconnaissance Operations (SRO) Intelligence, Surveillance,
and Reconnaissance (ISR) collection. Intelligence professionals seek to leverage the GEOINT
capabilities at their disposal to satisfy validated requirements in the most efficient manner possible
due to the high demand, low density nature of ISR GEOINT assets. With the number of validated
collection requirements surpassing the collection capacity available to collection managers there must
be an effective manner of evaluating the GEOINT collection strategy to ensure the greatest amount of
GEOINT is collected to satisfy a Joint Force Commander s (JFC) Priority Intelligence Requirements
(PIR). This imbalance between the amount of collection that is needed and the capacity available to
acquire and exploit the images drives home the necessity for a GEOINT collection strategy that
incorporates a method for measuring its effectiveness of satisfying requirements throughout the
execution cycle of collection operations.
When discussing the options available for measuring GEOINT collection effectiveness a brief
background section will highlight the significance of ISR GEOINT collection across the six phases of
operations. Additionally, the background section will provide a review of

Marx vs Weber vs Engels Essay
Capitalism is invariably acknowledged in the study of social science. Amongst the respective gathered
ideals of the esteemed sociologists: Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels, and Max Weber include through
discussion as to the origins of Capitalism, as well as the role and effects it plays upon civilized
societies. Whereas Marx and Engels view of Capitalism fall within similar boundaries, Weber s
opinion of the matter differs in regard to the formers in several ways. In similarity, both parties agree
that history [or sets of historical change(s)] lead to the establishment of Capitalism within social
groups of human beings. However it is in their assessment of the sources of impact on history, which
begins the disparity between the two parties ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The means of production are resources necessary to ensure survival, and the relations of productions
are the very social relations that people enter into within the established economy which benefit
survivability (e.g. forming families). The combination of the means of production and the relations of
production results in the mode of production, or the method by which a society is [currently] run. In
their materialist reading of history, Marx and Engels proclaim that with the necessity for survival
driving history/ and man to the development of social interaction and thus the establishment of the
economy, staged progressions will come forth as a result. To Marx the economy will ultimately be
responsible for all aspects of society. It will be from the development, and circumstance stemming
forth from such development of the economy, that the stages of history will progress. And as such to
Marx and Engels Capitalism will be a stopping point upon this staged progression route of history. In
this way it is concluded that Capitalism is a mode of production stemming from the economy [means
and relations of production], which in itself is a result of the history of materialism [the innate struggle
for survival and the social relations built upon this struggle]. Weber s view towards history is that it is
not a series of staged progressions. As such his view towards Capitalism was not in accordance to
Marx and Engels.

Questions On Teaching English Language Learners Essay
Many considerations need to be addressed when teaching English language learners. To help English
language learners, teachers must have a basic understanding of the interferences these students face
and how they affect the ELL. Teachers have to be knowledgeable about phonological and
morphological differences with their ELL student s native language. Teachers must be aware of their
students phonemic awareness and be able to assess their students level of knowledge appropriately. To
be receptive to all students needs, teachers must acknowledge them so they can teach the student the
interferences and how they work in their new language. One of the interferences that teachers must
take into consideration is the student s phonological awareness. In the book Phonics They Use it states
that phonological awareness is the ability to separate sentences into words and words into syllables.
Whereas, phonemic awareness is the ability to recognize that words are made up of a discrete set of
sounds and to manipulate sounds. Through the developmental stages of a student s phonological
awareness their knowledge of how words are made up of individual words, words are made up of
syllables, and syllables are made up of phonemes (p. 5). Some activities that build phonological
awareness are segmenting, rhyme, and syllables. An activity that can build phonological awareness is
segmenting. Segmenting allows students to break words apart by sounds. This process allows the
student to

Thyroidism Research Paper
Hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism are conditions of the thyroid gland secreting an abnormal
amount of thyroid hormones. The thyroid gland is located on the front of your neck where the
clavicles meet. The purpose of the thyroid gland is to secrete Thyroid Hormones; T3 Hormone and T4
Hormone. These hormones regulate metabolism, energy, and vital body functions. Some vital body
functions are: breathing, heart rate, nervous system, body weight, muscle strength, and body
temperature. Statistics on thyroid disease show that more than 12% of the United States population
will develop a thyroid condition during their lifetime. Approximately twenty million Americans have a

A patient with hypothyroidism will need to take thyroid replacement hormones for the rest of his or
her life. In most cases once the thyroid hormones are managed and maintained within normal levels
the outcome is positive. A patient with hyperthyroidism will depend on how they react from treatment.
Hyperthyroidism is usually treatable and sometimes it may go away naturally. However, a patient with
hyperthyroidism due to an autoimmune disorder such as Grave s Disease usually gets worse and will
affect quality of life. Hyperthyroidism is a disease that is not preventable. Hypothyroidism is not
preventable either if you have this disease due to natural causes. The only time both hypothyroidism
and hyperthyroidism is when the patient is taking too much medication and has not yet determined the
right dosage of medication. Once the medication is regulated there is no prevention for either once
again. Undiagnosed thyroid disease whether hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism can cause
complications; some more serious than others. One of the most serious risks with hypothyroidism is
Myxedema Coma. This is when the thyroid levels get too low. Other complications for
hypothyroidism are low temperature, bradycardia, bradypnea, low glucose levels, infection, heart
failure, miscarriages, infertility, preterm delivery, and

Sigmund Freud Is Responsible For The Creation Of...
Sigmund Freud is responsible for the creation of psychoanalysis, which at the time was a new science
based on mental causes rather than the typical physical model of human behavior. Freud was the first
to infer that mental disorders could be the result of individual history rather than physical impairment
and that childhood experiences influence an individual s behavior in the future. When considering
Freud s theory of personality, there are numerous correlations that can be observed with regard to my
own childhood experiences and the actions and emotions I experience today. Freud s view on mental
energy is that the body is the source of all mental energy, mental energy is conserved due to the fact
that we have a limited amount, it is the cause for all our behavior, and the goal of our behavior is to
reduce tension. One s mental energy is invested in impulses, which drive human behavior. Freud
proposed two basic impulses: sexual impulses and aggressive impulses. Cathexis refers to the
concentration of mental energy on one particular person, idea, or object; excessive cathexis on a single
object may lead to neurosis, which is a mild psychological disorder. An example of cathexis in my
own life is when I have a week filled with exams and big projects; during this time, my mental energy
is concentrated on getting a good grade on these projects and exams; concentrating my mental energy
on the idea of getting a good grade is almost as exhausting as completing the projects

China Occupation
During the occupation of China by Japan, a time of slaughter for civilians and soldiers alike, the
international committee built a safety zone to protect innocent civilians from the chaos. The zone help
saved over 200,000 Chinese civilians from the ruthless slaughters during the Nanking Massacre of
1937, and later stayed to help rebuild Nanjing after the Devastation attack. Each country has different
views of what they believe was the start of WWII. But Asians trace the war s beginnings all the way

Social Mobility In Sport
Throughout generations, social mobility has become something everyone wants to attain in their
lifetime. Through social mobility comes a better and more stable life. There are many ways to achieve
maximum mobility, which include getting a higher education and reducing risk in your life. There are
also a lot of myths towards this concept that has been portrayed by the media and one of the myths is
the social mobility gained by a person playing a sport. Americans in today s world believe that sports
are the path we should take to have full financial and social flexibility. Examples leading to this
conclusion are obvious as we see kids from poor areas escalate their nobility and capital through their
abilities to compete in sports. From the million dollar contracts and endorsement deals, the ideology
behind being an athlete is that your social mobility will rise, but many statistics will prove otherwise.
Although it is possible for athletes to gain revenue and fame, the overall ideology of sports of gaining
maximum social flexibility from being involved in a sport is a myth.
Before continuing about the myths of social mobility and the ideology behind sports, readers need to
be able to understand the true meanings behind these two words. In the book Sport in Society by Jay
Coakley, he begins to define social mobility by stating, Social mobility is regarded as changes in
wealth, education and occupation over a person s lifetime or from one generation to the next (Coakley

Plyometric Training
Plyometric Training
Kelya Jureczki
Hardin Simmons University Introduction
Plyometric training is intended to increase power and explosiveness. The movement of the exercise
simulates sport specific movements that are transferable for enhanced sport performance outcome.
Plyometric exercises can help athletes increase strength, explosive speed and reaction time, which in
turn will increase speed and vertical height. Activating the stretch shortening cycle increases power
output and concentric phase of the movement (Watkins, 2013). Intensity, volume and frequency are all
factors determined by the players needs for the exact implementation to increase performance.
Functional training use of plyometrics for upper and lower extremities can have a substantial influence
on improving skill, speed and strength. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first phase is the eccentric phase. In this phase the energy is stored during pre loading. Between
the eccentric and concentric stage is the transition phase, called amortization. This phase should be
short in order for the energy to not dissipate. The last stage is the takeoff. In the concentric phase the
stored potential energy is transferred into the movement. The muscle is loaded with a lengthening
motion, followed immediately by a concentric shortening motion. In combination, the series is called
the stretch shortening cycle.
The muscle spindle in the muscle being activated detects a change in the length of muscle. Therefore,
the muscles and tendons react reflexively to provide protection.
Basketball
Basketball requires individuals to change speed, direction and movement. Jumping is also an essential
piece of the game. Therefore, both quickness and power are essential for optimal performance.
Plyometric training can be used as a pre season or in season method of training. Branch (2013),

The adoptive family may ignore or make little effort to incorporate into the family the cultural heritage
of the adopted child (Adamec,136). This decision to leave the culture behind, outside the family, does
not suggest that the child is neither accepted nor loved or cherished as their own. However, when the
adoptive family also adopts and embraces the cultural identity of the child s birth culture, it enriches
not only the adopted child but also the entire family and extended family as well. Another factor is
attachment is the child s age when they were adopted. The older the child when adopted, the risk of
social maladjustment was found to be higher (Simon, 188). Most children when adopted at younger
ages have a better chance to adjustment normally, than children adopted over the age of ten. An infant
learns to trust quicker, than a ten year old child does, but all of this depends on each case.
Developmental theorist Eric Erikson, discusses trust issues in his theory of development. Erikson s
first stage of development is Trust versus Mistrust , which states if needs are dependably met, infants
develop a sense of basic trust (Myers, 149). For an adopted child, placing the child early in a key
ingredient to successful attachment of child to parent and vice versa (Cox, 1). Such an attachment,
which is strong among the majority of families throughout the paper, is an important

east by the Syro African Depression. Lebanon borders Syria to the north and to the east, and Israel in
the south.
Lebanon s climate is Mediterranean ; mild to cool, wet winters, and hot, dry summers.
Some of Lebanon s natural resources are the limestone, salt, water and iron ore. Like any other
country there are natural hazards such as dust storms and sandstorms.

Due to civil war, Lebanon s economy was highly affected, for instance central government institutions
disintegrated. Therefore the estate was handicapped, and accumulated several debts, for example by
2001 Lebanon had reached $28 billion, or nearly 150% of GDP.
As a matter of fact, economic performance was sluggish in 2000 and 2001 and there was no growth in
2000.
Lebanon s current program of reforms focuses on three main aspects:
Economic restoration and sustainable growth
Fiscal consolidation and structural improvement in public sector finances
Monetary, financial, and price stability
The Lebanese pound is firmly pegged to the American dollar since September 1999. Furthermore
Lebanese currency has undetermined competitiveness, with merchandise exports falling from 23% of
GDP in 1989 to 4% in 2000 .
In 2002, the Lebanese government increased gasoline taxes, reduced expenditures, and approved a
value added tax ; all of these became effective in February 2002.
In Lebanon is it hard to finance the government because of the slow money growth and dollarization,
which results in a burden to the Central Bank . Some of the measurements that the government has put
primary emphasis on privatization are: the telecom sector and electricity, Beirut port, and water
utilities. Lebanon s is U.S fourth largest source of imported goods; the U.S has more than

The Road Not Taken By William Shakespeare
When we travel, we often focus on our destination at a cost of other aspects of the journey is a
statement which can be related to almost any journey whether it be physical, imaginative or emotional.
King Lear is a text (play), written by William Shakespeare, that relates to the statement, as most of the
characters within the play go on their own separate journeys. These journeys result in the severance of
many relationships between characters, such as Edgar and Edmund, and affect the aspects of their
lives that they did not consider. This is similar to The Road Not Taken which is a poem, written by
Robert Frost, that speaks in a metaphorical way to symbolise journey. Within the poem Frost speaks of
the difficulties on choosing which path to take due to their deceiving appearance and nature. Both
these texts portray the statement through a wide array of techniques, such as symbolism, hamartia, and
personification.
King Lear is a text which has parallel narratives, the first following King Lear s family, and the second
following Lord Gloucester s family. The King himself goes on a significant emotional and imaginative
journey, which shapes his identity at the end of the play. Lear s emotional journey starts at the very
start of the play when he asks his daughters to praise and tell him how much they love him. He soon
faces the troubling task of dealing with his two eldest daughter s, Goneril and Regan, betrayal, due to
his own naive desire to receive baseless praise. It

The Aircraft Manufacturing Industry During World War II
During World War II, the aircraft manufacturing industry took off. According to Dr. Bright (1978), by
the year 1944 it was the largest industry in America (p. 1). It soon declined in the years following due
to material flaws, lack in engine performance, and production manufacturing methods. One
contributing factor was metal fatigue, this occurs when metal parts that undergo many repeated strains
eventually fail at a loading far below their original ultimate strength , Garrison (2005) (p. 1).
Manufacturers at the time primarily used aluminum and steel, because of their overall strength and
how readily they were available. What engineers did not consider was the abuse the airframes would
take over time. This factor went overlooked, resulting in numerous crashes with fatalities. Although
cheaper to manufacture, piston type airplane engines require more maintenance than that of their jet
engine counterparts. In fact, a jet engine can go for 3,000 hours while an overhaul for a piston aircraft
is generally 2,000 hours , Piston Engine (2011). This source goes on to compare the average top speed
of a piston engine driven aircraft which is usually around 200 KIAS. This is relatively slow when
compared to the average jet engine that can reach 300 KIAS.
The manufacturing industry took a big hit after the war, Bugos (2001) found that total sales by
American aircraft firms were $16 billion in 1944; by 1947 they were only $1.2 billion, . However,
finances weren t the only

The Pros And Cons Of Genetic Gold Diggers
Genetic Gold Diggers It s sad to live in a world where the thought of genetically modifying babies
exists. While parents are just trying to better their children s lives, they re doing nothing but wasting
their money on a very expensive and risky procedure. It s no coincidence that when CRISPR, the
machine/tool used for genetic modification was released, over 40 countries produced legislation to
fight against it due to the moral, legal, safety, etc. issues. With genetic modification, numerous health
risks, moral questioning and possible discrimination, genetic modification is not the way to go. One of
the main reasons a parent would modify their traits is to become more athletic; so, if a parent modifies
their baby in order for them to grow up to be the next LeBron James , chances are they re not special
for thinking of that. They think that their kid will be the superior athlete but in reality, the kid is going
to be battling against many other kids that have been genetically modified, reducing their talent back
down to what it would ve been prior to genetic modification. The only difference is that if the kid didn
t get modification, he might ve gotten his college paid for if the parents didn t spend a bazillion dollars
for this genetic treatment. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Stono Rebellion Essay
The Stono Rebellion was at the time the biggest slave rebellion to ever take place in the American
colonies. It came at a time when owning slaves was one of the accepted things in the colonies and the
colonists depended on the labor the slaves were doing. Some colonies entire economies depended on
it. In South Carolina, there were more slaves than free men in the colony. This was because of the
African slave trade. It was the constant trade to get slaves which made the colonists depend on slave
labor. Slave labor was so profitable, most slave owners treated their slaves as property. Beatings,

Twenty whites and forty four slaves were killed in the fight at Edisto River. The group of slaves
retreated but the militia were able to get other local militia s to join in the fight with them. In addition,
remaining local slave owners warned and threatened their own slaves that if they even considered
joining the rebellion, they would be punished. The militia and the slave group fought for over a week.
The conflict finally ended with the surrendering of the slave group. After the slaves surrendered, the
remaining members of the slaves that rebelled were hung for their crimes. These slaves were made an
example to all other slaves, making them not even want to attempt to rebel in the future. This rebellion
led to much harsher slave codes that were enforced in the colony. It also restricted the slaves so much
that it meant that they could not go anywhere without their owners permission at any time. The Negro
Act of 1740 was passed which prohibited enslaved people from growing their own food, assembling
in groups, earning money they, rather than their owners, could retain or learning to read. (The Black

setting back the relations of blacks and whites in the state for years. This conflict ended up reigniting
tensions between the races that up to that point were not all that high. The rebellion also made slavery

With services however, you ll perform a task for your clients in exchange for money. So if you
perform tasks for your clients at their convenience, and do it better than the next guy, and faster, then
there s no reason why your clients wouldn t feel compelled to compensate you generously, wouldn t
you agree?
Could this model be applied to other types of businesses? Give an example?
Personally, I wouldn t recommend it except for in service and non profit businesses. As already
discussed above, if you implement this model where products are involved, you run a serious risk of
going at a loss because if you do not regain your revenue, specifically the revenue that pays for the
production of the products. In a non profit setting however, once your profits are consistent with the
level of risks an organization is willing to take, then all is good. When it comes to service business,
then things get a little tricky because I don t see why any service business would want to settle for
satisfactory profits rather than maximize them, but, even if they don t maximize their profits because
of implementing this model, they really don t stand to lose that much.
Do you think this model can continue to work as our economy gets stronger (is it a model that can be
successful long term)?
Highly unlikely. I say this because since we are just recovering from a recession, most people s
mentality is still stuck

Belonging Involves Conforming and a Loss of Identity -...
The foundation of belonging is often associated with the loss of a person s individuality. Indeed, as the
construction of one s identity is highly intricate and ever changing, several authorities often considers
its development to be associated with our relationships. From this, it can be shown that belonging can
be associated with the degradation of one s identity. Such impact can be explained through the reality
that in order to belong, we must share similar characteristics or identity with that group however this
can involve enhancing character s identity. Nonetheless, due to its complexities, for some, belonging

Teenagers however are often ostracized for being different and this results to the conformity of many
children and the foreclosing on uniqueness and individuality. In cases of children, belonging is usually
not associated with the degradation of identity. This may not be the case with older people as it is a lot
more complicated and sometimes conforming may be the only way to belong. We must consider times
at which belonging can threaten an individualised identity. For some, the only way to belong is to
conform to expectations, losing personal ideologies as a result. In the book The Absolute True Diary
of a Part Time Indian, Junior is a perfect example of conforming in order to belong. Junior is just a

the living room at my sister Kathy s house. Beethoven s Symphony No. 5 was playing from the home
stereo system, the famous fate knocking on the door da da da DA [rest] da da da DA [rest]. In the
beginning, silence is shattered by a loud, forceful call to attention, than the second movement is quiet,
sweeping, and restful but wholly, after that I was deep into my own emotions about my father who
taught me to love classical music. I turned around to see my sister Kathy and wondered if she felt the
same way.
I believe music is a way of life for some people and others it is a way to connect to many different ...

Is It Important To Change Your Social Class
In modern society, social class has a major influence in how we live our lives. Often, it determines
what type of opportunities present themselves and how often they occur. Your class determines the
people you associate with, your level of education, and your overall success in the world. Some people
will tell you that you should always try to rise to the top, using any means necessary. The people who
argue this are often the ones who demand the peak performance out of absolutely everything,
regardless of the cost. It is often apparent where they are coming from with this viewpoint, but it is not
without it s flaws. The main philosophy that defeats the presented argument is that just because you
can do something, it does not always mean ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, a person born into a poor family can find their way to success in life. However, it
requires a great amount of concentration, dedication, and hard work. Even though it sounds simple,
the end result is not as easily attainable as one would hope. Often, extraneous circumstances will hold
certain individuals back from success. Also, a great deal of people wind up cancelling their efforts
when they realize how much they need to work to achieve results. Finally, it is worth that it is not just
poor people who can change their social classes. Anyone can do it, but it requires different amounts of
effort for each class. To summarize, social class has a large effect on people s lives in the modern
world, and if you so desire, you can change it. Your class determines what opportunities you have,
your education level, and how people perceive you as a person. There are examples of this in both The
Great Gatsby and in real life. One should not change their class for the sake of changing, however. If
you are satisfied with where you are, then there is no need to change. But if you are stuck at the
bottom and desire to improve your situation, then you may do as you wish, but be aware that it will be
a long and difficult

Archetypes Carl Jung
Carl Jung was a Swiss innovator progressing various theories of the unconscious mind. The Swiss
psychotherapist based his work on Sigmund Freud s perspectives and beliefs of the unconscious mind.
Carl Jung had deducted that a human s unconscious personality could not have started in the cognizant
personality. The thought that certain ideas and pieces of imagination within the unconscious were
shared to all individuals within a society was assumed by Jung. This mental imagery were claimed as
Archetypes by Jung (hence the term Jungian archetypes ) due to the images being ubiquitous and all
inclusive to humans. A famous example of a Jungian archetype is the structure of the father and
mother. Carl Jung later assumed through his work that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Swiss psychotherapist claimed that these symbolic dreams tie into a total human collective. I
believe this to a very small extent. In the terms of that our human ancestors have greatly melded and
mixed over time to where almost all of modern society has genetic ties, then absolutely. I say this
because genetics can influence the way humans think, physically endure the environment, survive, etc.
There may be a great similarity in the way humans are physically constructed due to genetics. This
aspect can also greatly affect brain structure. Assuming that a human s brain works similarly to his or

The Threat Of The Terrorist Threat Essay
The terrorist threat is one threat that can not be taken likely and requires effort from all homeland
security stakeholders to prevent the consequence of such a threat. This threat can come in so many
different fashions that it requires a collaborative effort to prevent its effects. If a terrorist has access to
an item that can cause harm then it can be added to the vast list of threats. There have been terrorist
attacks that have occurred utilizing explosives, chemical weapons, small arms attacks, toxic industrial
chemical and if other threats are available then these threats would be used to cause mass causalities.
The terrorist threat may have a strong hold in certain parts of the Middle East but the threat has
traveled globally. Through the use of the internet, the terrorist organizations are able to expand their
propaganda and therefore spread their influence globally. The internet has caused a change in the
nature of the terrorist threat by not just associated this threat as foreign but one that can inspire
homegrown terrorism. In this paper, it will discuss how terrorists are able to spread their influence
globally and inspire followers to become homegrown terrorists. This paper will also discuss how the

Postmodernism And The Future Of Literature
Postmodernism and the Future of Literature
During the 19th and early 20th, Western world experienced numerous historical events and influential
changes, including the Word Wars and technological revolutions. These phenomenons affected the
society at large, including in the aspect of art and literature. Literary historians often classified
literature from late 19th century until the end of World War II as modernism and literature after World
War II as postmodernism. Although there are no explicit definitions, common traits can often be found
that distinguished these two categories. In this paper, I will be examining modernism and
postmodernism literature, as well as whether postmodernism still continue until now, focusing on Italo

Postmodernism artists enjoyed experimenting on literary techniques, such as metanarrative and lack of
character developments, which received mixed response in literature world.
One of the most notable works in postmodernism era is Calvino s If On A Winter s Night A Traveler.
Just like many postmodern works, If On A Winter s Night A Traveler is a metafiction, using second
person narrative form to further emphasis its self consciousness. Calvino indicated his intention by
starting his book with the sentence You are about to begin reading Italo Calvino s If On A Winter s
Night Traveler (1), addressing the main character of the book as You or the Reader . In addition, the
book is high fragmented, another trait commonly found in postmodernism works. The book is divided
into 22 parts, each in the form of double chapters, alternating between numbered chapters telling story
of the character You , and unnumbered chapters containing the first chapter of 10 separate stories.
With the concept of beginning a whole new story on each unnumbered chapters, Calvino was able to
explore a wide range of genres, spanning from mystery to romance, in a single book. The
discontinuity of the chapters result in absence of clear image of characters in each stories. Even the
main story from the numbered chapters, Calvino used the advantage of having You as the main

The Lost Boys Directed by Joel Schumacher
Conversely, Kusserow, instead of using irony or literary images, she forms meaning in her poetry
through the use of metaphors. As Tyson states, A metaphor is a comparison of two dissimilar objects
in which the properties of one are ascribed to the other (143). Kusserow uses several metaphors
throughout her poem to help elucidate the effects of the Second Sudanese Civil Wars on the Lost
Boys. Regarding the Lost Boys , the name given to the groups of over 20,000 boys of the Neur and
Dinka ethnic groups who were displaced and orphaned during the Second Sudanese Civil War,
Kusserow writes, packs of bony Lost Boys / roving like hyenas towards Ethiopia, / tongues, big as
toads, swelling in their mouths (15 17). Here, Kusserow has used two zoomorphic metaphors,
applying animal characteristics sot humans. She compares the Lost Boys to a hyena, a wild and
chaotic animal, depicting the boys as a bunch of mad and violent scavengers, implying that they try to
search for and collect anything that can be a source of food for them. Moreover, her comparison in
which she describes the tongues of the Boys to be as big as toads, she is illustrating the extreme level
of dehydration that the boy s probable experienced, and how their tongues swell up since that is a
symptom of dehydration. From Kusserow s use of zoomorphic metaphors, we can see that she is
trying to show how the Lost Boys have been dehumanized due to the dreadful condition they have had
to face as a product of the Second

The reason I chose this artwork was because it wasn t so much focused on the catastrophe itself, but
the people s effort for survival. On April 15, 1912, the Titanic sank in the North Atlantic Ocean. On its
maiden voyage to New York, New York it collided with an iceberg. On board were 2,200 passengers,
of those 1,507 died. Beckmann was said to be inspired by news accounts to produce this work which
at the time was a current event. The date of this art work is 1912 1913, and the media is oil on canvas.
When we think of the sinking of the Titanic, we think about an unsinkable ship going down. This
painting is not about that. It is about the passengers and their fight for survival and what they must
have gone through. The story in this painting is about how they tried to survive and come to terms
with the possibility of death. It is painted on a huge canvas 8 foot by 11 foot in very dark and cool
colors. The size and magnitude of this helps to create a most impressive scene. Off in the distance in
the right hand corner you can the still brightly lit Titanic still upright and powered, drifting near the
iceberg which sunk it. However, the ship and the iceberg are not the focus of what the artist is trying to
convey. The struggle of the survivors and the lifeboats dominate the scene. In the center of the
painting is a capsized lifeboat with some of the surviving passengers

Netflix s Dominance Of Our Homes And Screens
Abstract
Netflix started the campaign on a positive note by capturing a larger customer base with DVD by mail
business. The success was short lived due to increasing logistics and inventory cost. Also with the
advent of digital era, DVD by mail fell out of favor. Netflix figured out the loophole and decided to
tap into the online streaming market with content marketing. With exciting new features, constant
updates and recent expansion of customer base by providing its streaming services in India, Netflix
has only grown into a juggernaut.

The Characters Of Kill A Mockingbird By Harper Lee
Introduction: Matt Berman from Common Sense Media commented, This richly textured novel,
woven from the strands of small town life, lets readers walk in the shoes of one fully realized
character after another. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, one of the major messages is identity.
Harper Lee lets the people look into the perspectives and identity of some of the characters that make
it seem very life like. In the novel, many characters possess both admirable and dislikable qualities
which are shown through their actions. With the nurturing of her father, Scout contains the charming
qualities of being courage and mature for her age. The father that instilled these characteristics in
Scout, is Atticus Finch. While dealing with the stressful case of Tom Robinson, Atticus maintains to
keep the likable aspects of sympathy and strong will. The antagonist in this novel fighting against Tom
Robinson is Bob Ewell. Bob Ewell has instilled, in him, the terrible qualities of cruelty and racism.
These life like characters that Harper Lee illustrates gives people a clear vision of who the characters
portray. Body Paragraphs: Scout was raised in a time with racial prejudices going on around her. This
instilled in her the admirable qualities of courage and maturity. Her father, Atticus Finch, was fighting
for the freedom of the opposing side, the one everybody despised. This caused her to be put in many
dangerous and hate filled situations in public which included school and the

that being a good wife runs so much deeper than making dinner, washing undies, and doing the dishes.
It s about prioritizing your family and loving them with all of your heart. As the years pass on, the
society became more open minded about the tradition stereotype gender role. The changes also
included both wife and husband were expected to help each other and the house chores was divided.
The wife is not only the main charged of doing all the house works and prepare food for the family.
Men were also expected to make some contribution to take part in the household works. Whomever
the person went home first whether the husband or the wife, the person is expected to clean up the
house if it s needed, prepare dinner for the family and expected to take care the children. Back in
1995, the wife encourages to wash the children s face, comb their hair and change their clothes.
Importantly, she had to reduce all the noise of washer or vacuum and encourage the children to be
quiet at the time when the husband came home because the husband had spent long enough hours at

The Use Of Enhanced Interrogation Techniques ( Eits )
The one lesson we ve learned from history is that we have not learned any of history s lessons
(Unknown Author, n.d.). The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the use of Enhanced Interrogation
Techniques (EITs) such as waterboarding and extraordinary rendition (aka black sites ) by CIA agents
for American intelligence interests and to analyze the drastically apposing views of the legalities,
morality, and effectiveness of these methods. Is the CIA s use of EITs and extraordinary rendition
equivalent to torture, and therefore, acts in violation of international law? The definition of torture
under statute 18 U.S.C. 2340 states, torture means an act committed by a person acting under the color
of law specifically intended to inflict severe physical or mental pain or suffering (other than pain or
suffering incidental to lawful sanctions) upon another person within his custody or physical control
(United States Code, 2011). This definition expands with specific identifying characteristics of an act
and varies to include humiliation of an individual. Of course, pain and suffering is a subjective
experience. The worlds historical practice of torture reinforces lessons that human s imaginative
capacity for inflicting pain and terror on our fellow human is disgracefully boundless; yet, parallel
behaviors of violence and humiliation reemerge with disturbing regularity (Smith, 2013). The events

Depression and Anxiety in Persons with Divorced Parents In the recent years, divorce rates have been
continually trending upwards (Reiter, Hjorleifsson, Breidablik, Meland, 2013). It is factual that
children who have parents that have divorced typically face more obstacles in numerous aspects of life
than children who have married parents. Children that experience divorce have up to a 300% increase
in probability to be impacted by issues in mental wellbeing than their peers without an incident of
divorce in their parental structure (Shifflett Cummings, 1999). These issues can arise due to the

Whether moderate or severe, divorce serves long term contributions to depression and anxiety in
children regardless of age (Chase Lansdale, Cherlin, Kiernan, 1995).
Mental and Emotional Adjustment in Divorce with Age Numerous factors come into play pertaining to
the age of a child that undergoes the experience of parental divorce. As time passes, most research
states that both anxiety and depression impact children of divorce rather steadily. However, even after
adjusting, these emotional impacts are extremely consistent throughout the progression of life
(Størksen et al., 2005). Due to the inability to cognitively process and identify reasons that lead to
divorce, kids around the pre kindergarten age range are naïve to the situation. Around this age,
children depend on parental support in daily life to carry out tasks. This alteration of family structure
will impact smaller children more than older children, as the older child will have more outlets to
channel their mental tension (Reiter et al., 2013). According to data, children may not adjust well
emotionally and display bouts of anxiety, which may develop into depression at later ages (Kline,

  • 2. Intelligence, Surveillance, And Reconnaissance Operations Introduction The United States (US) Intelligence Community (IC) requires a succinct method for measuring the collection effectiveness of Geospatial Intelligence (GEOINT) operations of both National Technical Means (NTM) and airborne Sensitive Reconnaissance Operations (SRO) Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) collection. Intelligence professionals seek to leverage the GEOINT capabilities at their disposal to satisfy validated requirements in the most efficient manner possible due to the high demand, low density nature of ISR GEOINT assets. With the number of validated collection requirements surpassing the collection capacity available to collection managers there must be an effective manner of evaluating the GEOINT collection strategy to ensure the greatest amount of GEOINT is collected to satisfy a Joint Force Commander s (JFC) Priority Intelligence Requirements (PIR). This imbalance between the amount of collection that is needed and the capacity available to acquire and exploit the images drives home the necessity for a GEOINT collection strategy that incorporates a method for measuring its effectiveness of satisfying requirements throughout the execution cycle of collection operations. When discussing the options available for measuring GEOINT collection effectiveness a brief background section will highlight the significance of ISR GEOINT collection across the six phases of operations. Additionally, the background section will provide a review of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Marx vs Weber vs Engels Essay Capitalism is invariably acknowledged in the study of social science. Amongst the respective gathered ideals of the esteemed sociologists: Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels, and Max Weber include through discussion as to the origins of Capitalism, as well as the role and effects it plays upon civilized societies. Whereas Marx and Engels view of Capitalism fall within similar boundaries, Weber s opinion of the matter differs in regard to the formers in several ways. In similarity, both parties agree that history [or sets of historical change(s)] lead to the establishment of Capitalism within social groups of human beings. However it is in their assessment of the sources of impact on history, which begins the disparity between the two parties ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The means of production are resources necessary to ensure survival, and the relations of productions are the very social relations that people enter into within the established economy which benefit survivability (e.g. forming families). The combination of the means of production and the relations of production results in the mode of production, or the method by which a society is [currently] run. In their materialist reading of history, Marx and Engels proclaim that with the necessity for survival driving history/ and man to the development of social interaction and thus the establishment of the economy, staged progressions will come forth as a result. To Marx the economy will ultimately be responsible for all aspects of society. It will be from the development, and circumstance stemming forth from such development of the economy, that the stages of history will progress. And as such to Marx and Engels Capitalism will be a stopping point upon this staged progression route of history. In this way it is concluded that Capitalism is a mode of production stemming from the economy [means and relations of production], which in itself is a result of the history of materialism [the innate struggle for survival and the social relations built upon this struggle]. Weber s view towards history is that it is not a series of staged progressions. As such his view towards Capitalism was not in accordance to Marx and Engels. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Questions On Teaching English Language Learners Essay Many considerations need to be addressed when teaching English language learners. To help English language learners, teachers must have a basic understanding of the interferences these students face and how they affect the ELL. Teachers have to be knowledgeable about phonological and morphological differences with their ELL student s native language. Teachers must be aware of their students phonemic awareness and be able to assess their students level of knowledge appropriately. To be receptive to all students needs, teachers must acknowledge them so they can teach the student the interferences and how they work in their new language. One of the interferences that teachers must take into consideration is the student s phonological awareness. In the book Phonics They Use it states that phonological awareness is the ability to separate sentences into words and words into syllables. Whereas, phonemic awareness is the ability to recognize that words are made up of a discrete set of sounds and to manipulate sounds. Through the developmental stages of a student s phonological awareness their knowledge of how words are made up of individual words, words are made up of syllables, and syllables are made up of phonemes (p. 5). A patient with hypothyroidism will need to take thyroid replacement hormones for the rest of his or her life. In most cases once the thyroid hormones are managed and maintained within normal levels the outcome is positive. A patient with hyperthyroidism will depend on how they react from treatment. Hyperthyroidism is usually treatable and sometimes it may go away naturally. However, a patient with hyperthyroidism due to an autoimmune disorder such as Grave s Disease usually gets worse and will affect quality of life. Hyperthyroidism is a disease that is not preventable. Hypothyroidism is not preventable either if you have this disease due to natural causes. The only time both hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism is when the patient is taking too much medication and has not yet determined the right dosage of medication. Once the medication is regulated there is no prevention for either once again. Undiagnosed thyroid disease whether hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism can cause complications; some more serious than others. One of the most serious risks with hypothyroidism is Myxedema Coma. • 6. Sigmund Freud Is Responsible For The Creation Of... Sigmund Freud is responsible for the creation of psychoanalysis, which at the time was a new science based on mental causes rather than the typical physical model of human behavior. Freud was the first to infer that mental disorders could be the result of individual history rather than physical impairment and that childhood experiences influence an individual s behavior in the future. When considering Freud s theory of personality, there are numerous correlations that can be observed with regard to my own childhood experiences and the actions and emotions I experience today. Freud s view on mental energy is that the body is the source of all mental energy, mental energy is conserved due to the fact that we have a limited amount, it is the cause for all our behavior, and the goal of our behavior is to reduce tension. One s mental energy is invested in impulses, which drive human behavior. Freud proposed two basic impulses: sexual impulses and aggressive impulses. Cathexis refers to the concentration of mental energy on one particular person, idea, or object; excessive cathexis on a single object may lead to neurosis, which is a mild psychological disorder. An example of cathexis in my own life is when I have a week filled with exams and big projects; during this time, my mental energy is concentrated on getting a good grade on these projects and exams; concentrating my mental energy on the idea of getting a good grade is almost as exhausting as completing the projects ... Each country has different views of what they believe was the start of WWII. But Asians trace the war s beginnings all the way back to Japan s first attempt to dominate East Asia the occupation of Manchuria in 1931 (Schreiber 1) John Rabe described on the first page of his diary how the Japanese declare this occupation as a sovereign state, however, in reality, it ... • 9. Social Mobility In Sport Throughout generations, social mobility has become something everyone wants to attain in their lifetime. Through social mobility comes a better and more stable life. There are many ways to achieve maximum mobility, which include getting a higher education and reducing risk in your life. There are also a lot of myths towards this concept that has been portrayed by the media and one of the myths is the social mobility gained by a person playing a sport. Americans in today s world believe that sports are the path we should take to have full financial and social flexibility. Examples leading to this conclusion are obvious as we see kids from poor areas escalate their nobility and capital through their abilities to compete in sports. From the million dollar contracts and endorsement deals, the ideology behind being an athlete is that your social mobility will rise, but many statistics will prove otherwise. Although it is possible for athletes to gain revenue and fame, the overall ideology of sports of gaining maximum social flexibility from being involved in a sport is a myth. Before continuing about the myths of social mobility and the ideology behind sports, readers need to be able to understand the true meanings behind these two words. In the book Sport in Society by Jay Coakley, he begins to define social mobility by stating, Social mobility is regarded as changes in wealth, education and occupation over a person s lifetime or from one generation to the next (Coakley ... The movement of the exercise simulates sport specific movements that are transferable for enhanced sport performance outcome. Plyometric exercises can help athletes increase strength, explosive speed and reaction time, which in turn will increase speed and vertical height. Activating the stretch shortening cycle increases power output and concentric phase of the movement (Watkins, 2013). The muscle is loaded with a lengthening motion, followed immediately by a concentric shortening motion. In combination, the series is called the stretch shortening cycle. The muscle spindle in the muscle being activated detects a change in the length of muscle. Therefore, the muscles and tendons react reflexively to provide protection. The adoptive family may ignore or make little effort to incorporate into the family the cultural heritage of the adopted child (Adamec,136). This decision to leave the culture behind, outside the family, does not suggest that the child is neither accepted nor loved or cherished as their own. However, when the adoptive family also adopts and embraces the cultural identity of the child s birth culture, it enriches not only the adopted child but also the entire family and extended family as well. Another factor is attachment is the child s age when they were adopted. The older the child when adopted, the risk of social maladjustment was found to be higher (Simon, 188). Most children when adopted at younger ages have a better chance to adjustment normally, than children adopted over the age of ten. An infant learns to trust quicker, than a ten year old child does, but all of this depends on each case. Developmental theorist Eric Erikson, discusses trust issues in his theory of development. The Road Not Taken By William Shakespeare When we travel, we often focus on our destination at a cost of other aspects of the journey is a statement which can be related to almost any journey whether it be physical, imaginative or emotional. King Lear is a text (play), written by William Shakespeare, that relates to the statement, as most of the characters within the play go on their own separate journeys. These journeys result in the severance of many relationships between characters, such as Edgar and Edmund, and affect the aspects of their lives that they did not consider. This is similar to The Road Not Taken which is a poem, written by Robert Frost, that speaks in a metaphorical way to symbolise journey. Within the poem Frost speaks of the difficulties on choosing which path to take due to their deceiving appearance and nature. Both these texts portray the statement through a wide array of techniques, such as symbolism, hamartia, and personification. King Lear is a text which has parallel narratives, the first following King Lear s family, and the second following Lord Gloucester s family. According to Dr. Bright (1978), by the year 1944 it was the largest industry in America (p. 1). It soon declined in the years following due to material flaws, lack in engine performance, and production manufacturing methods. One contributing factor was metal fatigue, this occurs when metal parts that undergo many repeated strains eventually fail at a loading far below their original ultimate strength , Garrison (2005) (p. 1). Manufacturers at the time primarily used aluminum and steel, because of their overall strength and how readily they were available. What engineers did not consider was the abuse the airframes would take over time. This factor went overlooked, resulting in numerous crashes with fatalities. Although cheaper to manufacture, piston type airplane engines require more maintenance than that of their jet engine counterparts. In fact, a jet engine can go for 3,000 hours while an overhaul for a piston aircraft is generally 2,000 hours , Piston Engine (2011). This source goes on to compare the average top speed of a piston engine driven aircraft which is usually around 200 KIAS. This is relatively slow when compared to the average jet engine that can reach 300 KIAS. The manufacturing industry took a big hit after the war, Bugos (2001) found that total sales by American aircraft firms were $16 billion in 1944; by 1947 they were only $1.2 billion, . While parents are just trying to better their children s lives, they re doing nothing but wasting their money on a very expensive and risky procedure. It s no coincidence that when CRISPR, the machine/tool used for genetic modification was released, over 40 countries produced legislation to fight against it due to the moral, legal, safety, etc. issues. With genetic modification, numerous health risks, moral questioning and possible discrimination, genetic modification is not the way to go. One of the main reasons a parent would modify their traits is to become more athletic; so, if a parent modifies their baby in order for them to grow up to be the next LeBron James , chances are they re not special for thinking of that. They think that their kid will be the superior athlete but in reality, the kid is going to be battling against many other kids that have been genetically modified, reducing their talent back down to what it would ve been prior to genetic modification. As Tyson states, A metaphor is a comparison of two dissimilar objects in which the properties of one are ascribed to the other (143). Kusserow uses several metaphors throughout her poem to help elucidate the effects of the Second Sudanese Civil Wars on the Lost Boys. Regarding the Lost Boys , the name given to the groups of over 20,000 boys of the Neur and Dinka ethnic groups who were displaced and orphaned during the Second Sudanese Civil War, Kusserow writes, packs of bony Lost Boys / roving like hyenas towards Ethiopia, / tongues, big as toads, swelling in their mouths (15 17). Here, Kusserow has used two zoomorphic metaphors, applying animal characteristics sot humans. She compares the Lost Boys to a hyena, a wild and chaotic animal, depicting the boys as a bunch of mad and violent scavengers, implying that they try to search for and collect anything that can be a source of food for them. Moreover, her comparison in which she describes the tongues of the Boys to be as big as toads, she is illustrating the extreme level of dehydration that the boy s probable experienced, and how their tongues swell up since that is a symptom of dehydration. From Kusserow s use of zoomorphic metaphors, we can see that she is trying to show how the Lost Boys have been dehumanized due to the dreadful condition they have had to face as a product of the Second ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The reason I chose this artwork was because it wasn t so much focused on the catastrophe itself, but the people s effort for survival. On April 15, 1912, the Titanic sank in the North Atlantic Ocean. On its maiden voyage to New York, New York it collided with an iceberg. On board were 2,200 passengers, of those 1,507 died. Beckmann was said to be inspired by news accounts to produce this work which at the time was a current event. The date of this art work is 1912 1913, and the media is oil on canvas. When we think of the sinking of the Titanic, we think about an unsinkable ship going down. This painting is not about that. It is about the passengers and their fight for survival and what they must have gone through. The story in this painting is about how they tried to survive and come to terms with the possibility of death. It is painted on a huge canvas 8 foot by 11 foot in very dark and cool colors. The size and magnitude of this helps to create a most impressive scene. Off in the distance in the right hand corner you can the still brightly lit Titanic still upright and powered, drifting near the iceberg which sunk it. However, the ship and the iceberg are not the focus of what the artist is trying to convey. The struggle of the survivors and the lifeboats dominate the scene. In the center of the painting is a capsized lifeboat with some of the surviving passengers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The changes also included both wife and husband were expected to help each other and the house chores was divided. The wife is not only the main charged of doing all the house works and prepare food for the family. Men were also expected to make some contribution to take part in the household works. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the use of Enhanced Interrogation Techniques (EITs) such as waterboarding and extraordinary rendition (aka black sites ) by CIA agents for American intelligence interests and to analyze the drastically apposing views of the legalities, morality, and effectiveness of these methods. Is the CIA s use of EITs and extraordinary rendition equivalent to torture, and therefore, acts in violation of international law? The definition of torture under statute 18 U.S.C. 2340 states, torture means an act committed by a person acting under the color of law specifically intended to inflict severe physical or mental pain or suffering (other than pain or suffering incidental to lawful sanctions) upon another person within his custody or physical control (United States Code, 2011). This definition expands with specific identifying characteristics of an act and varies to include humiliation of an individual. Of course, pain and suffering is a subjective experience. The worlds historical practice of torture reinforces lessons that human s imaginative capacity for inflicting pain and terror on our fellow human is disgracefully boundless; yet, parallel behaviors of violence and humiliation reemerge with disturbing regularity (Smith, 2013). • 37. Essay about Depression and Anxiety in Persons with... Depression and Anxiety in Persons with Divorced Parents In the recent years, divorce rates have been continually trending upwards (Reiter, Hjorleifsson, Breidablik, Meland, 2013). It is factual that children who have parents that have divorced typically face more obstacles in numerous aspects of life than children who have married parents. Children that experience divorce have up to a 300% increase in probability to be impacted by issues in mental wellbeing than their peers without an incident of divorce in their parental structure (Shifflett Cummings, 1999). These issues can arise due to the various conflicts that may come into play throughout the divorce process, or even the mere experience of parental divorce for the child. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whether moderate or severe, divorce serves long term contributions to depression and anxiety in children regardless of age (Chase Lansdale, Cherlin, Kiernan, 1995). Mental and Emotional Adjustment in Divorce with Age Numerous factors come into play pertaining to the age of a child that undergoes the experience of parental divorce. As time passes, most research states that both anxiety and depression impact children of divorce rather steadily. However, even after adjusting, these emotional impacts are extremely consistent throughout the progression of life (Størksen et al., 2005). Due to the inability to cognitively process and identify reasons that lead to divorce, kids around the pre kindergarten age range are naïve to the situation. Around this age, children depend on parental support in daily life to carry out tasks. This alteration of family structure will impact smaller children more than older children, as the older child will have more outlets to channel their mental tension (Reiter et al., 2013). According to data, children may not adjust well emotionally and display bouts of anxiety, which may develop into depression at later ages (Kline, Johnston, Tschann, 1991; Vousoura, Verdeli, Warner, Wickramaratne, ...
