The Importance Of The Apn Professional Development Plan
The purpose of the APN professional development plan is to apply skills and knowledge attained for
individual and professional growth. The professional development plan is a strategy to ensure the
promotion of excellence in APN practice as well as a continuation to strengthen advanced nursing
practice throughout the career. Creation of a development plan will help you advance in a particular
goal, objective, or position. There is an ever increasing need for APNs to keep learning and keep up
with the rapid changes regarding legislation affecting health care policy, quality of and access to care,
and issues surrounding advanced practice nursing. Therefore, it is critical to be proactive and take
personal responsibility to develop skills for your own growth and development. New skills and
knowledge augment motivation in supporting activities including communication, education, research,
recognition, and advocacy. The educational requirement for advanced nursing practice is a master s
level education in a program or track leading to APN licensure, including graduate degree granting
and post graduate certificate programs with established educational standards and attainment of the
APN core, role core and population core competencies (National Council of State Boards, 2012). APN
s acquire increased knowledge in the sciences of anatomy, physiology, microbiology, chemistry,
pathophysiology, and pharmacology. The core curriculum for the advanced practice role includes

The Influence Of King Yu On Ancient China
Pablo Picasso once said, Action is the foundational key to all success. This quote signifies how great
King Yu was. King Yu put all his strength and might into taming the Yellow River so when it floods it
does not cause a catastrophic disaster. Moreover, Taming the Yellow River was a huge success for
China and King Yu. With a tremendous success of taming the Yellow River, China s agriculture
flourished with well watered farm and crops with great ease. King Yu became a celebrity instantly.
King Yu helped Ancient China thrive through advanced farming technology in the Yellow River Valley
because he controlled extreme flooding that damaged Ancient China s thriving society, he is believed
to be powerful from attaining powers from heaven. Firstly, King Yu helped Ancient China through
advanced agriculture technology because advanced agriculture technology means faster farming to
feed all of China. With the rapid farming technology on the rise, they mastered building dams,
waterways, canals and so many other technologies that other ancient societies never dreamt of. With
this advanced technology, it provided steady but controlling water flow to irrigate all of China s crops

King Yu has provided them as he controlled the flooding of the Yellow River. This quote deepens the
concept of how King Yu revolutionized agriculture. King Yu built an empire like no other that

The World Is Flat, By Thomas L. Friedman
The World Is Flat is a visionary and insightful text written by Thomas L. Friedman. In short, the text
brings about the study of globalization at its forefront. Moreover, Friedman analyzes the evolution of
business and importance of information with respect not only to the 21st century, but with regards to
the history of trade as we know it. It is from this study and understanding that Friedman engages in a
detailed thought process as to how an institution, government, or individual can remain competitive in
such a progressive environment. In summary, through engaging in the fifteen chapters and recalling
the historical events used as evidence, one may arrive at more substantial conclusion as to how certain
entities will remain ahead of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To explain with an example, Friedman gives the reader a story, stating when I was growing up, my
parents told me, Finish your dinner. People in China and India are starving. I tell my daughters, Finish
your homework. People in India and China are starving for your job (270). Apparent in this personal
example is the presence of two critical arguments of the text. First and foremost, the quote draws a
contrast between two generations and highlights the fact that they are in some respects, exponentially
different. Thus, Friedman is able to reinforce his claims of how rapidly changing the world truly is.
Secondly, he uses this example of drastic change occurring from one generation to the next to
reference on of the driving forces or catalysts. To clarify, the reference to China and India s population
as eager for a job opportunity indirectly reemphasizes the effects of the spread of information as well
as the strength of outsourcing. From this quote, the reader gathers that individuals outside of their
home state have the ability to do their job and will do so without ever having to step into their country.
Again, Friedman puts into context the vast contribution that the web and other information sharing
technologies have given the globe. Although there are more detailed explanations and relevant
evidence, this quote serves as a fairly strong summary of Friedman s arguments in the first half of the
text. Whereas the first half of Friedman s work aims to

Martin Luther, John Calvin And The Protestant Reformation
One theme present during the reformation, was smaller churches breaking off from the larger church,
and establishing their own forms of christianity. Many people were unhappy with the way the church
was running and sought to reform these flaws by making their own forms of the church. People such
as Martin Luther and John Calvin, were unhappy with how the church was being run created their own
religions. Martin Luther created Lutheranism, which did not believe in the selling of indulgences and
believed that salvation was granted by faith alone. Both of these ideas went against the Church at the
time and his ideas were highly disputed. John calvin had created Calvinism, which believed in
predestination, which meant that God had already decided who was saved, and who was damned. The
idea of predestination also went against the church s idea that faith and good works lead to salvation.
2. Immorality, ignorance, and pluralism all gave the church a bad name, but immorality hurt the
church the most. Immorality in the church consisted of gambling, drinking, and promiscuity which
cast a bad light on the church as the clergy were supposed to be men of god and were not to engage in
such devious acts. The clergy was also highly ignorant with many preaches not knowing latin, the ...

the strictly Catholic Habsburgs tightened the grip on the netherlands pushing for Catholicism. The
Dutch rebelled with the help of protestant England and started the 80 years war against Spain. This
created tension between Spain and England because they were on opposite sides in the battle. In the

How Drug And Human Trafficking Differ From Traditional...
but this could possibly happen in areas like Munro s borderlands , the Golden Triangle, or other places
within Southeast Asia.
How drug and human trafficking differ from traditional security threats are that unlike traditional
external military threats which represent a state or a force, transnational traffickers are a part of a
globalise network of groups and individuals. Discussed in the previous paragraph, people that are a
part of the trafficking industry range from everyday people and businessmen, to criminal groups; with
the only relation they have to each other is the commodity they smuggle. Because of this and the illicit
market drive of demand and supply, traditional means of increasing police, destroy criminal groups,
and increasing illegal trafficking penalties does little to reduce the demand and supply. In order to
reduce the flow of trafficked commodities, states should reduce the supply and demand of the illicit
industries. This essay will now discuss the state security challenges of corruption.
Corruption is an important factor necessary for smuggling illicit commodities transnationally. Both
Munro and Phil Williams support this in their texts, with Williams stating that, corruption is a
lubricant which allows organised criminal organisations to operate with maximum effectiveness . As
discussed in the previous paragraph, the drug industry provides large amounts of funds to illicit
groups. These funds can be used to pay off state officials to not

Blood borne Pathogens The OSHA blood borne pathogens guidelines are a way for employees to
know the health hazards and risks associated with the exposure to blood borne pathogens. This job
deals with a high level of handling blood and therefore employers are held to the BBP standard.
OSHA estimates that 5.6 million workers in the healthcare industry and related occupations are at risk
of occupational exposure to blood borne pathogens, including HIV, HBV, HCV, and others. All
occupational exposure to blood or other potentially infectious material, places workers at risk for

Analysis Of The Storm By Kate Chopin
Kate Chopin s The Storm : Trouble on the Horizon
The Storm by Kate Chopin melds the theme of romantic love with those of rebellion and conformity.
In the story, Chopin gives readers an account of a meteorological disturbance that sweeps through a
town leaving a family to seek shelter until the storms passing. The wife of the story Calixta is at the
family s home while her husband Bobint and child Bibi are seeking refuge at Friedheimer s store. Bibi
is deeply concerned for his mother s safety and begins to question and seek reassurance for Calixta
from his father. Bibi implores by saying, Mama ll be fraid, yes, he suggested with blinking eyes (1).
His father attempts to reassure him by saying She ll shut the house. Maybe she got Sylvie helpin her
this evenin (1). Bibi knew differently but eventually settles and is comforted by his father and his
unwavering confidence for Calixta s safety. While readers are preoccupied with the storm and the
uncertainty it holds, Kate Chopin begins to scribe an unending metaphor that carries the entire plot of
the story. Calixta goes out to gather Bobint s Sunday clothes before the rain starts and to her surprise
Alce Laballire comes riding up. Calixta is nervous with Alce in the house, she stands at the window
gazing out while making small talk with him. Lightning strikes and Calixta grabs her eyes and
stumbles backwards where Alce s arms are waiting. The tension between the two has been building,
when Calixta staggers back from

Methods
Measurements have been carried out in both phantom and a specifically designed phantom which
simulated human lung volume. Samples were taken from the Lung Planning CT images for 15 patients
using the Oncentra Masterplan OMP Treatment Planning System. The X axis was, following
convention, taken to be horizontal, and the Y axis to be vertical; accordingly, abscissa and ordinate
distances to the skin, heart and the lungs were measured (see figure 8). Figures 4 and 5 show typical

The Oncology Management System: Impac, MOSAIQ was used to transfer the data from the OMP
treatment planning system to the Linac before running the Linac to determine the points ISO center,
Beam Information and Dose Information, as shown in figure 14, 15, 16 and 17 for the first and second
phantom.
The phantoms were positioned on the Elekta Precise linac, isocentre and aligned with lasers, and the
ion chamber was placed at each dose point, for example Iso, DP1, DP2, DP3 and DP4 (see figure 12

The field size and gantry angles chosen are typical of clinical plans for the same 15 patients as used to
design phantom 2. A field size of 10 x 10cm, was used for all fields. Gantry angles of 00 3150 2700
and 00 600 1200 were used for phantom 1 and 2 respectively. Tables 4 and 5 show beam information

Remarque s The Trenches On The Front Lines From The...
The realism, grisly detail, and irony Remarque injects his story of WWII in the trenches on the front
lines from the German perspective somehow remains poetic because of his lyrical writing style.
Nineteenth century society was not ready for Remarque s new language of war. Until this novel
society held the illusion of war as both glorious and romantic. The idea of such a thing traces back to
the ancient Spartans carrying forth to 19th century Europe (Traver 2002). Before Chapter One,
Remarque introduces the idea of the ensuing pages are the work of a new language about war. This
book is to be neither an accusation nor a confession, and least of all an adventure, for death is not an
adventure to those who stand face to face with it. It will try simply to tell of a generation of men who,
even though they may have escaped its shells, were destroyed by the war (Remarque Preface).
The Significance of the Epigraph
As the epigraph to the novel introduces Remarque s intention of writing the novel he dispenses with
the familiar elements of excitement and romance thus favoring a stark and entirely unsentimental read.
His language of war becomes an advocate for soldiers who meet death face to face finding war is not
an adventure. It is this message about death that Remarque succeeds in his poetic fashion expressing
his ideas engaging the reader into the crux of his message about the evil of and written in his own
language. Others wrote of the same war and soon the war to end all

What Is The Future Of Toys R Us
The Future of Toys R Us The retail industry is currently going through extremely difficult times
companies need to rethink what products they sell and how they sell. Toys R Us is a prime example of
a company currently juggling this crucial problem. After recently filing for bankruptcy, they
introduced some strategic changes that they would be making to their traditional brook and mortar
stores. These changes are intended to excite the customer and to encourage them to return to their
stores. With new innovating ideas, they hope it will be enough for their existing customers, and
attractive to possible new customers. They will know soon enough if their efforts are enough. Toys R
Us has not always been the retail giant they are today. It was founded by Charles P. Lazarus; at the
time, a young entrepreneur. After returning from World War II, he contemplated what type of store he
should operate. He began selling baby furniture, but then began to carry a few toys. He noticed that
people would keep coming back to his store to shop his merchandize. The store then began to carry a
larger and larger assortment of options for his customers. In the late 1950 s, Charles restructured his
company and introduced the format that many of us have grown accustomed to when entering a Toys
R Us. The company has since grown to operate more than 800 stores around the world (History, n.d.).
On September 28, 2017, Toy R Us reviled to the world how they believed they would turn

Response To Brittany Hill s Job Process Costing System
In response to Brittany Hill s thread on Job Process Costing Systems, I can easily say that she was
very articulate in her passage. The thread is well detailed and presented in a manner that is not
confusing to the reader. To begin with, it is important that she starts out by highlighting the differences
between the two. For most people, costing systems can mean almost the same but as described by
Cohen Kaimenaki (2011), different situations will allow specific systems to be utilized. This is exactly
what Hill has been able to communicate. It was wise to talk about the two systems separately, with
each having its own paragraph. The importance of this is emphasized through the examples, which

These chemicals include sulfuric acid, water, zinc, and polysiloxane. The chemicals break down he
scrap copper into a liquid mixture known as copper sulfate (CuSO4). The copper sulfate is then
poured over a drum, and electrified, this adheres the foil to the drum, which is then peeled off as foil.
Because of the chemical intense process, entry is very hard. The process requires very precise and
technical equipment that is very costly. Oak Mitsui, the leading company in the market, has a $200
million production plant to produce the foil in a 20 million pounds or about $105 million market size.
Another barrier to entry is the transportation cost, which tends to be a major cost for the companies.
Owning or outsourcing transportation is an expensive cost that most companies across all markets
face, and copper foil is certainly a market where transportation is a factor. Because there are few sites
of production or importation, the foil needs to be shipped to the consumers, which are located across
all of North America. This leads to transportation being a costly factor in the production of copper foil.
Copper foil has constant returns to scale. When all of the inputs are increased, the output is increased
proportionally. This is due to the fact that there is no loss or setbacks on the inputs during production.
This also means that the production function is linear, like Q= 2K+5L (however with many more
variables).

D. You re overweight. The extra soft fat tissue can thicken the wall of the windpipe. This narrows the
inside of the windpipe, which makes it harder to keep open. E. The aging process limits your brain
signals ability to keep your throat muscles stiff during sleep. Thus, airway is more likely to narrow or
collapse.
Transition: National Institute of Health has Steps on how to treat Sleep Apnea.
IV. The National Institute of Health suggests that Sleep Apnea should be treated with lifestyle
changes, mouthpieces, breathing devices, and surgery. Goals of treating sleep apnea are to restore
regular breathing during sleep and relieve symptoms such as loud snoring and daytime sleepiness.
A. Lifestyle Changes 1. Avoid Alcohol and medicines that make you sleepy. 2. Losing weight if you re
overweight or obese. 3. Sleeping on your side instead of your back to help keep your throat open. 4.
Keeping your nasal passages open at night with nasal sprays or allergy medicines, if needed. 5. If you
smoke, quit.
B. Mouthpieces 1. Oral Appliance
C. Breathing Devices 1. Cpap Machine
D. Surgery
Conclusion: Learning that Sleep Apnea is a dangerous disease and more people are being diagnosed
with it. I hope that learning more about this disease more people will be more aware of it.

MBM is a scientific approach to management that integrates theory and practice, and provides a
framework for dealing with the ongoing challenges of growth and change (KOCH, 2007).
Five Dimensions
The theory of MBM is rooted in the Science of Human Action and is defined by five dimensions:
(figure 1) (GP, 2014).
Until now I have never heard of or read about Market Based Management. I m privileged to know
someone who worked at Georgia Pacific where the employees were required to take courses. They
used guiding principles for reviews and evaluations. By using these dimensions along with the guiding
principles we presume and organization will be successful both internal and external. This has been
proved successful for Koch Industries, however there are still arguments that it doesn t apply to all
business sectors. For example: Let s take the dimension Incentives. An employee performing the day
to day activities improves a process and the accomplishments of time saving or elimination. Based on
the MBM Incentive, this should be rewarded. This will be acknowledged by direct reports but then
taken up the chain command, only to find out that it s not relevant at that level. How does this
employee get rewarded based on the guidelines? Also, a salary increase would be an incentive for the
employee to perform good work. In the MBM culture, salary is based on the market for the area the
employee works in. A

A Brief Note On British Literature And Composition
Akshat Piprottar British Literature and Composition Mr. McRae Essay #1 Doublethink in 1984
Hungry for absolute dominance over their people, the totalitarian government known as the Party
implements various tools, whether physical or ideological, into the common man. One of these tools is
the idea of doublethink, where, holding both the absolute truth and the truth implanted by the Party in
their minds, any given person can believe two contradicting ideas at once. George Orwell, the author
of 1984, successfully shows the reader how doublethink cannot be practiced. In one of the plentiful
scenes where O Brien tortures Winston, Winston fails to doublethink properly. Between the electric
shocks, O Brien, holding up four fingers, asks Winston to count how many fingers. Trying to instill the
value of doublethink in Winston, O Brien actually further demonstrates how flawed doublethink is.
Winston suppose[s] there are four (288), trying to see five if I [Winston] could . Winston says he really
wants to see them [the five fingers] , yet he still fails. After an electric shock, Winston experiences a
vision of a forest of fingers... moving in a sort of dance . Orwell uses a metaphor for Winston s state of
thought; his hazy vision is really just uncertainty in his mind. Trying desperately to see five fingers,
Winston still can only either see four fingers or a hazy in between. There is no way for him to see both
four and five fingers at the same time. Orwell uses this very literal

Wayne thinks that the gross margin may shrink to 27.5 percent because of higher purchase prices. He
is concerned about what impact this will have on borrowings. Because share prices move frequently,
and company is exposed to the risk that the shares might fall in value. If margins decrease it a chance
that they could possible impact them receiving loans. Being that there was an increase in sales there
could mean a decline in customer or bringing in more customers. Since there is a decline in the
margins and an increase in sales Mr. Wayne is worried about stocks which is normal. Stock out has no
dollar value, it usually represents inventory that is owned by the company but physically not in their
warehouse. He acknowledge the fact that there will be stock out and in this case this could help or
harm the company. Researchers found that customers experienced less negative emotion when the
online retailer acknowledged the stock out. Compared to simply acknowledging stock outs or giving a
backorder option, financial compensation such as discounts on next purchase was more effective in
mitigating the negative impact of stock outs on patronage intention (Marineau, 2011).

The Effect Of Temperature On Blood Pressure And Heart Rate
Teacher s Instruction:
Design a lab that will examine a factor that affects blood pressure and heart rate.
Research Question:
What is the effect of temperature on blood pressure and heart rate?
Introduction:
Blood transports nutrients, oxygen, carbon dioxide, hormones, antibodies, urea and heat through our
body. The heart is transports blood by pumping it through blood vessels.
Blood flows from areas of high pressure to areas of low pressure. The pressure of blood in the
circulatory system is a value called blood pressure (mmHg: millimeters of mercury ), which is
measured by two numbers: systolic pressure and diastolic pressure. The systolic number is the
pressure in the arteries when the heart beats (when the heart muscle contracts), while the diastolic
number is pressure in the arteries between heartbeats (when the heart muscle is resting between beats
and refilling with blood). The ideal blood pressure is 120/80 mmHg.
Heart rate on the other hand is the number of times (in one minute) that the heart beats or contracts. A
heart rate can be anywhere between 60 and 100 beats per minute.
This experiment will involve five individuals putting their left hand in different samples of water of
varying temperatures. Their blood pressure and heart rate will be recorded before the experiment, and
after each water trial, to determine the effect it has on both the blood pressure and heart rate.

CONCEPTS AND DEFINITIONS OF DISABILITY The contemporary conception of disability
proposed in the WHO International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) views
disability as an umbrella term for impairments, activity limitations and participation restrictions.
Disability is the interaction between individuals with a health condition (e.g. cerebral palsy, Down
syndrome or depression) and personal and environmental factors (e.g. negative attitudes, inaccessible
transportation, or limited social supports). Long ago there was great confusion over the meaning of
terms such as impairment, handicap, or disability. Then, in 1980, the WHO provided great service by
offering a clear way of thinking about it all in a little book ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Measurements of quality of life extend the disability focus beyond the ability to perform activities of
daily living to include a broad range of functioning (work, home, play) and also the person s feelings
of satisfaction and well being. This is necessarily a qualitative and subjective concept, judged by the
patient in terms of the extent to which they are able to do the things they wish to do. In this medical
context, quality of life is distinct from wealth or possessions, and to amke this clear you may see the
term health related quality of life. Reflecting these evolving ideas, the WHO revised its Impairment,
Disability and Handicap triad in 2001, re naming it the International Classification of Function (ICF).
This classification system provides codes for the complete range of functional states; codes cover
body structures and functions, impairments, activities and participation in society. The ICF also
considers contextual factors that may influence activity levels, so function is viewed as an interaction
between health conditions (a disease or injury) and the context in which the person lives (both
physical environment and cultural norms relevant to the disease). It establishes a common language
for describing functional states that can be used in comparing across diseases and countries. The ICF
therefore uses positive language, so that activity and participation

Character Analysis Of To Build A Fire By Jack London
It was a clear day, and yet there seemed an intangible pall over the face of things, a subtle gloom that
made the day dark, and that was due to the absence of the sun. Throughout Jack London s To Build a
Fire there is a sense of slow burning dread as readers are introduced to the man and his gradual, but
inevitable death, brought upon by himself. London s short story opens with the main character, a man,
foolishly embarking on the long journey back to camp in the freezing Yukon, accompanied only by a
husky mix. It is in this unforgivingly harsh weather that the man meets his fate, at his own hand. From
the beginning of the story, the man displays flawed behaviors and personality traits that render him
unable to survive on his solo journey in the Yukon, becoming his own worst enemy. One of the most
prominent facets of the man s personality is his overwhelming arrogance. The man is a newcomer to
the Yukon territory or chechaquo , and is inexperienced in the customs of the land. The man believes
that he will be unaffected by the harsh conditions and does not seem to grasp the grave reality of the
situation. This characteristic is displayed early in the story, when the man rebuffs the old timer s
warning advice and later mocks the old man and his caution of the danger of traveling in the freezing
temperatures, especially without a partner. Those old timers are rather womanish, some of them, he
thought (1210). Despite the likelihood that the old timer has spent his lifetime in the area, the man
considers his advice to be weak and believes, arrogantly, that he is superior in his masculinity and
abilities. Eventually, the man realizes that he should have listened to the words of the old man in
Sulphur Creek. Further, the man s arrogance is displayed again when he ignores the warning signs that
the environment is not suitable for such a long solo trek. Despite the incredible cold, the man fails to
comprehend just how miniscule he is compared to nature. ...the absence of sun from the sky, the
tremendous cold, and the strangeness and weirdness of it all made no impression on the man (1205). It
is this arrogance that limits the man s ability to grasp how insignificant his life is compared to the
great power of

Worst Actions Of Professionalism Analysis
Stealing from a organization you work for is one of the worst actions of professionalism. In my
opinion there are many forms of negativity to determine the quality of an individual and their
professionalism, but the act of theft has to be one of the worst. In my perspective this is morally and
ethically wrong. This was the first time I encountered a negative example of professionalism was when

Personal Differences Between Turtle And Octopus
I would like to explain my opinion about two different pets, the pets that I want to explain are turtle
and octopus. Many people like to adopt some cute pet, but in this essay I choose to explain about
unusual pet and maybe infinitesimal people who like to adopt and if we see this pet the afraid will
traverse their mind and maybe they will be scared. But in personality I can t repudiate some pets are
cute but I don t really like pet. Usually, everyone who want to adopt pet, with gingerly must giving

That s the reason that I don t really interesting to adopt some pets. Okay let s start about the topics.
Octopus
The octopus has to be one of the most fascinating marine creatures around and it is possible to keep
them in home aquariums. However, they are not the easiest to look after and live tragically short lives
only 12 months or so. But with this said, they show an incredible level of intelligence and can work
things out for themselves, especially if it involves catching any food or escaping!

Hesse (1980) stated that the positivist paradigm is reductionist and deterministic. The researcher using
this paradigm strives for objectivity and uses measurement to test hypotheses (Young
2008). Maintaining tight control over the context of the problem allows the researcher to make
generalisations about the concepts being studied
(Young 2008).
Positivism uses scientific methods of enquiry to describe and predict patterns in the physical world
(Suppe and Jacox 1985). Theory is established deductively through formal statistical testing of
hypothesis (Lincoln and Guba 1985). The goal of

positivist research is thus control and prediction
(Weaver and Olson 2006).
According to Reason and Bradbury (2008), positivists are traditionally committed to a view of
scientific neutrality in other words, the researcher separates the facts from their values.
Epistemologically, positivists are wedded to an individual vision of the world, in which individuals are
believed to have their own minds and this determines behaviour (Reason and Bradbury 2008).
Positivists are objective or dualist and maintain that there should be separation between those who
study reality and those who experience it (dualism). Gaventa and Cornwall (2008) argued that this
epistemological view can distort the real world view that positivists hold. However, Guba and Lincoln

Brief Story Of Timmy s Neighborhood
Timmy, has a great deal of money and lives in an extremely nice mansion. The private neighborhood
is guarded, so no one could come in unless they live there or have permission from a resident. His
neighborhood is gated and lined with large trees along a newly made road. Additionally, there is a pool
with a fitness center attached to the pool building. Cut into an enormous sandstone is the name of the
neighborhood, Sun Village. It was named after an old Indian group who once lived on the land, and
called themselves the Sun Tribe. One day, he was just sitting on his couch watching television when
an ice cream commercial began to play. So of course he had a craving for ice cream. He started
gathering his belongings to head out to the store, but couldn t find his credit card. I probably lost it in

it would more than likely be the thief. He also starts to assume that the thief must know him and that

Is Adhd over-Diagnosed Among School Children
Is ADHD Over diagnosed Among School Children?
After reading the review, (Is ADHD over diagnosed among school children?) by C. Collins, I am in
agreement with T. E. Elder in that yes, ADHD is over diagnosed.
I chose to accompany the review by C. Collins with the article, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity
Disorder, which originated from the Facts on File; Issues and Controversies Database. After reading
both the review and the article I highly believe that ADHD is definitely over diagnosed.
In the article, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, the disorder is defined, as well as the current
treatment for the disorder which tends to be the drug Ritalin. While there are many other drugs
available for treatment, Ritalin is the most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Parents and teachers have given up on these children and they have been the ones who drop out of
school or end up in prison. It is thought that by diagnosing ADHD early and treating it properly,
children who might not have had a chance to succeed can now be successful. The advocates for
diagnosis of ADHD also point out that the treatment of ADHD with prescription drugs is actually very
small and only one out of every three children diagnosed with ADHD is actually treated with
prescription drugs (Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, para. 45).
The article concludes by stating that although most experts have varying ideas and on ADHD they are
all in agreement that the disorder needs more research.
As I stated previously, I do believe ADHD is over diagnosed; however, I am in total disagreement with
the critics who believe the disorder doesn t exist at all. Their claim that in the past it was acceptable
and expected of children to be hyperactive and rowdy just doesn t hold water for me. In the past we
did not have the knowledge that we do now and as a result children were not diagnosed and either
struggled to succeed in school and life or didn t succeed at all.
I am in agreement that many parents, teachers and some experts use the diagnosis of ADHD as an easy
answer and way to deal with difficult children. I feel that T. E. Elder also makes a very significant
point that the age and maturity of children entering kindergarten also

A Comparison of Two Men s Weekly Magazines Essay
A Comparison of Two Men s Weekly Magazines
January saw two publishing giants IPC and EMAP venture into the no man s land of the magazine
industry with the publication of two Men s weekly magazines, intelligently titled Nuts (published by
IPC) and Zoo (EMAP). Weekly magazines have traditionally been seen as a women s arena, they are
too girly with titles such as Chat and Heat being incredibly successful publications for the above two
companies. It was felt that with tabloid newspapers such as The Sun, The Star and The Daily Sport
there was no market for a men s weekly magazine despite the surprise runaway success of the

Nuts is winning the circulation game at present both magazines are incredible similar.

No one to acknowledge your training needs through supervisions and appraisals * No confidence or

effective and explicit instruction but these goals can be complicated by the learner. As a result schools
have incorporated programs that are specifically developed to ensure the success of each child
individually. There are many different interventions that can be incorporated to change disruptive
behavior that is being displayed in the classroom setting. The hypothesis is that disruptive behavior
will significantly decrease once the intervention is incorporated and the appropriate behavior will
drastically increase. The importance of gathering this data is so that teachers will be able to take back
total control of their classrooms as well as taking control of disruptive behavior. In this study we will

Layton s Essay On Rhetorical Analysis And Discussion
Layton begins his essay describing what engineering is; that its work is in the marketplace rather than
in a laboratory. He then states the engineer s dilemma is based on bureaucracy, not capitalism.
Engineers are called the original organization man, and are important to large businesses, but a social
revolution amongst them would not end their terms of marginality. Moving on, Layton then goes over
engineering and its history in America. He then goes on to discuss professionalism. Many engineers
have a concern for their social status, and seek to be on par with doctors and lawyers, and to do this,
they must show more social responsibility. Layton quickly discusses autonomy, and then goes on to
explain the pros of professionalism, and that it prevents engineers from becoming cogs in the
industrial machine. Going on, Layton states that professionalism carries an air of elitism, and is not
democratic in nature, but can serve democratic ends. It requires engineers to align with their

Drugs And Its Effects On Society
Throughout history, the use of drugs, both for recreational and medical purposes, has had a profound
impact on society that is still prevalent in today s society. After the end of the Second World War, the
pharmaceutical industry was booming and drugs became this tool that could solve all of human s
problems. Many companies invested in this area which led to many breakthroughs for cures; however,
during this time period, another branched stemmed from all of this glory of drugs. The 1960s drug
culture was a major epoch when the use of recreational drugs became widespread with the help of the
media. The government missed an opportunity to enforce their drug laws during the emergence of
drugs during this time which led to many problems afterwards; the government should have been
stricter with their drug enforcement laws which could have prevented many problems: the widespread
of LSD was dangerous to society, laws should be enforced so people cannot break them without
consequences, and the damage of drug use depends on the type but is, ultimately, harmful to the user.

T.C. Williams High School. Coach Boon (Denzel Washington) who came from North Carolina was
put as a head coach by the school board which made the former coach and the white player unhappy
because of his skin color. Boone offered Yoast a defensive coordinator position which he refused first
but then was forced to accept the offer when the white player and their families pledged to boycott the
school if he don t participate. Herman was seen as savior from discrimination and segregation by the
African American people. Coach Herman took the team to a football camp to prepare them for the
season. Coach Herman Boone forced the players to sit and room together because he wanted the black
and the white players to learn to respect each other and embrace their difference. The African
Americans and white players were regularly fighting and arguing for instance captain Gerry Bertier
(Ryan Hurst) and Julius Campbell (Wood Harris) were arguing who was covering who and blaming

The Importance Of Easter In Spain
People around the world have many cultures and holidays. Everyone celebrates their holidays with
traditions that appeal to them. With cultural difference added, diversity is created and is part of the
festivities throughout the world. Spain, for example, is just like any other country with its own
holidays, traditions, and activities. This Spanish speaking country has those that contrast to the ones
here in the United States.
To begin with, Spain has a holiday called Semana Santa, or Holy Week, that lasts for a week. The
week before Easter, the regions of the Spanish speaking country celebrate the resurrection of Jesus
with their own styles and customs. However, according to Miruna Corneanu, the author of the article
Easter in Spain , Semana Santa celebrations are nowhere else as elaborate and spectacular as they are
in Andalusia.... In this southern region of the country, the Catholic holiday is honored by with
religious fervor, extravagant processions, color, and art. Motley parades and complex religious
displays of biblical scenes take over the streets in Seville and Malaga. In the town of Calanda, people
celebrate Good Friday by playing drums for twenty four hours. On the contrary, Easter is a holiday
those in the United States celebrate. While it may not last for an entire week but only a day, Easter is
not held on an official date, but instead on the first Sunday after the first Full Moon has happened or
after the March equinox. This holiday is honored by Christians,

Narwhal Research Paper
The association of about 20 narwhals or so were just sitting there, dazed, on the wet and slippery ice.
The smaller, younger looking narwhals were bluish and blackish. And the older looking ones had
more snowy white to them. Age differentiation is extremely easy because the growth of the narwhals
was rapidly going from being easily about five feet as young narwhals and about 20 feet that are older.
They lazily sat there either eating some fish or taking a daytime nap. Some had very noticeable tusks,
while others didn t. Most people do not know about these animals while, in fact, they are actually the
unicorns of the sea. Narwhals have basic information like all creatures, and have prey and predators.
These mystical creatures have a tooth that was a mystery to many scientists long ago. ... Show more

Like how unicorns are related to horses, narwhals are related to many kinds of whales. Some included
are: bottlenose dolphins, belugas, orcas, and harbor porpoises. These narwhals can grow rapidly like
most kinds of whales. They can grow from being just five feet in length as a newborn and 17 feet as
an adult. Also, newborns weigh from about 175 to 220 pounds. And adults are usually around 2100
pounds. Age differentiation of narwhals has been easy not just because the weight and length, but
because of their color. Younger narwhals are more gray while adults are lighter in color. This makes it
easy to tell the difference between young and old narwhals. Even though it is easy to tell the
difference between narwhals in itself, narwhals are usually not seen too often because they do not
come too close to the shore. And they can dive down to 5,000 feet. Though narwhals are interesting,
they are threatened by many factors, natural and unnatural

When I was four years of age I attended a swimming club at Seven Islands in Southwark. The pool
was fairly large and was rarely crowded, that was one comfort for me. Seven Islands had many
activities other than swimming, I myself did not choose to do swimming my mum had decided that I
would benefit from it.
My first day at the club started in a shallow pool opposite a larger one. I already knew two people who
came with me, that made me feel a little confident despite the crying of other children. We had two
instructors a man and a women both were roughly in their thirties the man had brown hair and was
quite tall, the women had blonde hair and was full figured and short. The ... Show more content on

The day I learned to swim was a normal day, one month after I started. After school my mum brought
me home to get my swimming gear ready for swimming, when I arrived at Seven Islands I was told
that one of the instructors had gone on holiday, in his place was a new women who was tall and had
brown hair and was from Australia. The new lady was nice and spoke softly. She and the other women
decided to see if we could swim without assistance, she started with me first she held both of my
hands and told me to start kicking before I knew it she let go of my hands so I had to rely on moving
them to support myself I then realized that I was actually swimming alone, after about three seconds I
caught the ledge, the shock of it distracted me I could not believe it. When the instructress went on to
other people I tried again this time using different styles of swimming I was confident with diving and
front stroke. At the end of the session I was pleased with myself and so were my friends.
Three years after practicing and learning more and more I kept attending I never missed a session until
finally the club moved to Walworth road, they gave each member an application form saying that each
member acknowledged that the club was moving and that you would still attend. I decided not to stay
on because I had already received my awards one of them was

Differences Between Medial And Lateral Arthroscopic...
Comparison of prognostic differences between Medial and Lateral Arthroscopic Partial Meniscectomy
in development of Osteoarthritis
Shawn Clavell, BS, SPT
Introduction
Arthroscopic partial meniscectomy (APM) is the most prevalent procedures performed on the knee
joint.1 The location, size , and vascularity of area which the meniscus is torn are the most important
factors in determining a treatment plan.2 The larger medial meniscus is the more often injured tissue;
lateral meniscectomies represent only about 20 % of isolated meniscectomies, whereas medial
meniscectomies represent 78% of all cases.
Rehabilitation after arthroscopic partial meniscectomy is without restrictions and can be aggressive.
The early stages of rehabilitation are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

underwent a lateral partial meniscectomy. Finally, the literature review will be used to reflect on the
clinical case and treatment.

Universal Social Policy
Citizen views in the United States have been ever changing. Our, American, views on welfare and
what it means to have a welfare state have been changing as well. As Theda Skocpol describes in,
Social Policy in the United States, the Social Security Act of 1935 was our first form of universal
social policy. This victory came after unsuccessful attempts at creating a form of old age pension.
There are a lot of similarities between policies, during the New Deal and Post War area, particularly
roadblocks. In a time of regulation, both the United States and Britain were creating policies in
response to growing demands from those in the industrial sector. Many of these demands could be
addressed through reshaping, in some cases, creating new ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many in the United States feel that they should not be paying for others, however the intention is not
to pay for others, but more so create a social safety net that anyone can fall onto if need be. Efforts to
fight poverty in the United States have been ongoing, the means of which the nation should address
and aid the situation is controversial for some. In the creation of the New Deal policies and Social
Security, there was an inherent racist nature behind the opposition for comprehensive and universal
policies. The idea of a form of social security went against the beliefs some had against big
government. Because of this, many approached social policy with the mentality that because the
market regulates itself, there should be no form of government intervention for when the market goes
into crisis. We know this to not be true because of continual regulation of the market, either by
government or business at the end of the day, those who can afford to save themselves from crisis can
do so and those who cannot are left to the demise of the market. Many argue that health care is an
economic argument, I am not stating that it is not, but after looking at policy history, oppositions seem
to be rooted in the social and

It is the experiences that travelers gain while they are travelling. LVCVA understands that they are not
just selling Las Vegas; they are selling the Las Vegas Experience the adult freedom. By talking to their
old and potential customers, they learned the core customer value. The Vegas visitors want to feel a
little naughtier and less inhibited and that is what their customers are buying. To accommodate the
benefits the customers are seeking, the actual services and products are provided to the satisfaction of
the visitors. Various product features of Las Vegas were produced to target the adult such as casinos,
luxury retailers, world renowned restaurants and five star hotels. Branding is another strategy LVCVA
used to deliver the core customer value. By spending $75 million for ad campaigns, LVCVA
successfully boosted the brand message educating consumers of the products Vegas are selling. Only
Vegas: What happens here, stay here became the now familiar catchphrase of Las Vegas. This image
has replaced the long pervasive image of Sin City to a luxury and indulgent image. Although this
image has been adjusted to affordable and well deserved during the recession, but the Las Vegas
Experience brand image still maintains a consistent meaning to consumers. As research indicated,
people still demand the same Vegas they ve known and loved will still be there during hard economic
times. This proves the strength of the Vegas brand image

Sol And Aquara Short Story
Sol and Luna lived high in the heavens in their shimmering thrones above Terro, the earth. One day
Luna had a baby. That baby s name was Aquara. She grew up in the heavens and slowly developed an
aching love for Terro. She watched and watched, then as she grew older she decided to move to be
with Terro. They lived intertwined in everlasting love for many years, Aquara surrounding Terro with
her devoted emotion.. As time went on Sol realized a problem. He knew that he needed to have a place
for beings to live. He couldn t put beings on Terro, for he was covered in Aquara s long draping navy
blue cloak. Sol knew that the only way was to split them apart. One day Sol reached down to Terro
and Aquara, and split them apart and placed them side by side. Terro understood and thanked Sol for
letting them still be close. Aquara on the other hand, was agonized. Sol placed all the animals down to
Terro. He nurtured and nourished them as Aquara sat in silence. Finally she broke down.
Anger and outrage struck her. Who is he to tell me what I can do?
Her body started shaking, her legs trembling, her eyes changed from a royal blue to a smoldering red.
With an ear piercing cry she shouted to the heavens. You will pay for this! you will pay!
Aquara violently rose up to the heavens, high above Terro. With a terrorizing scream, she forced ...

King Yu put all his strength and might into taming the Yellow River so when it floods it does not cause a catastrophic disaster. Moreover, Taming the Yellow River was a huge success for China and King Yu. With a tremendous success of taming the Yellow River, China s agriculture flourished with well watered farm and crops with great ease. King Yu became a celebrity instantly. King Yu helped Ancient China thrive through advanced farming technology in the Yellow River Valley because he controlled extreme flooding that damaged Ancient China s thriving society, he is believed to be powerful from attaining powers from heaven. Firstly, King Yu helped Ancient China through advanced agriculture technology because advanced agriculture technology means faster farming to feed all of China. • 5. The World Is Flat, By Thomas L. Friedman The World Is Flat is a visionary and insightful text written by Thomas L. Friedman. In short, the text brings about the study of globalization at its forefront. Moreover, Friedman analyzes the evolution of business and importance of information with respect not only to the 21st century, but with regards to the history of trade as we know it. It is from this study and understanding that Friedman engages in a detailed thought process as to how an institution, government, or individual can remain competitive in such a progressive environment. In summary, through engaging in the fifteen chapters and recalling the historical events used as evidence, one may arrive at more substantial conclusion as to how certain entities will remain ahead of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To explain with an example, Friedman gives the reader a story, stating when I was growing up, my parents told me, Finish your dinner. People in China and India are starving. I tell my daughters, Finish your homework. People in India and China are starving for your job (270). Apparent in this personal example is the presence of two critical arguments of the text. First and foremost, the quote draws a contrast between two generations and highlights the fact that they are in some respects, exponentially different. Thus, Friedman is able to reinforce his claims of how rapidly changing the world truly is. Secondly, he uses this example of drastic change occurring from one generation to the next to reference on of the driving forces or catalysts. To clarify, the reference to China and India s population as eager for a job opportunity indirectly reemphasizes the effects of the spread of information as well as the strength of outsourcing. From this quote, the reader gathers that individuals outside of their home state have the ability to do their job and will do so without ever having to step into their country. Again, Friedman puts into context the vast contribution that the web and other information sharing technologies have given the globe. Although there are more detailed explanations and relevant evidence, this quote serves as a fairly strong summary of Friedman s arguments in the first half of the text. Whereas the first half of Friedman s work aims to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Martin Luther, John Calvin And The Protestant Reformation One theme present during the reformation, was smaller churches breaking off from the larger church, and establishing their own forms of christianity. Many people were unhappy with the way the church was running and sought to reform these flaws by making their own forms of the church. People such as Martin Luther and John Calvin, were unhappy with how the church was being run created their own religions. Martin Luther created Lutheranism, which did not believe in the selling of indulgences and believed that salvation was granted by faith alone. Both of these ideas went against the Church at the time and his ideas were highly disputed. John calvin had created Calvinism, which believed in predestination, which meant that God had already decided who was saved, and who was damned. The idea of predestination also went against the church s idea that faith and good works lead to salvation. 2. Immorality, ignorance, and pluralism all gave the church a bad name, but immorality hurt the church the most. Immorality in the church consisted of gambling, drinking, and promiscuity which cast a bad light on the church as the clergy were supposed to be men of god and were not to engage in such devious acts. • 7. How Drug And Human Trafficking Differ From Traditional... but this could possibly happen in areas like Munro s borderlands , the Golden Triangle, or other places within Southeast Asia. How drug and human trafficking differ from traditional security threats are that unlike traditional external military threats which represent a state or a force, transnational traffickers are a part of a globalise network of groups and individuals. Discussed in the previous paragraph, people that are a part of the trafficking industry range from everyday people and businessmen, to criminal groups; with the only relation they have to each other is the commodity they smuggle. Because of this and the illicit market drive of demand and supply, traditional means of increasing police, destroy criminal groups, and increasing illegal trafficking penalties does little to reduce the demand and supply. In order to reduce the flow of trafficked commodities, states should reduce the supply and demand of the illicit industries. This essay will now discuss the state security challenges of corruption. Corruption is an important factor necessary for smuggling illicit commodities transnationally. Both Munro and Phil Williams support this in their texts, with Williams stating that, corruption is a lubricant which allows organised criminal organisations to operate with maximum effectiveness . As discussed in the previous paragraph, the drug industry provides large amounts of funds to illicit groups. These funds can be used to pay off state officials to not ... • 11. Remarque s The Trenches On The Front Lines From The... The realism, grisly detail, and irony Remarque injects his story of WWII in the trenches on the front lines from the German perspective somehow remains poetic because of his lyrical writing style. Nineteenth century society was not ready for Remarque s new language of war. Until this novel society held the illusion of war as both glorious and romantic. The idea of such a thing traces back to the ancient Spartans carrying forth to 19th century Europe (Traver 2002). Before Chapter One, Remarque introduces the idea of the ensuing pages are the work of a new language about war. This book is to be neither an accusation nor a confession, and least of all an adventure, for death is not an adventure to those who stand face to face with it. It will try simply to tell of a generation of men who, even though they may have escaped its shells, were destroyed by the war (Remarque Preface). The Significance of the Epigraph As the epigraph to the novel introduces Remarque s intention of writing the novel he dispenses with the familiar elements of excitement and romance thus favoring a stark and entirely unsentimental read. His language of war becomes an advocate for soldiers who meet death face to face finding war is not an adventure. It is this message about death that Remarque succeeds in his poetic fashion expressing his ideas engaging the reader into the crux of his message about the evil of and written in his own language. • 12. What Is The Future Of Toys R Us The Future of Toys R Us The retail industry is currently going through extremely difficult times companies need to rethink what products they sell and how they sell. Toys R Us is a prime example of a company currently juggling this crucial problem. After recently filing for bankruptcy, they introduced some strategic changes that they would be making to their traditional brook and mortar stores. These changes are intended to excite the customer and to encourage them to return to their stores. With new innovating ideas, they hope it will be enough for their existing customers, and attractive to possible new customers. They will know soon enough if their efforts are enough. Toys R Us has not always been the retail giant they are today. It was founded by Charles P. Lazarus; at the time, a young entrepreneur. After returning from World War II, he contemplated what type of store he should operate. He began selling baby furniture, but then began to carry a few toys. He noticed that people would keep coming back to his store to shop his merchandize. The store then began to carry a larger and larger assortment of options for his customers. In the late 1950 s, Charles restructured his company and introduced the format that many of us have grown accustomed to when entering a Toys R Us. The company has since grown to operate more than 800 stores around the world (History, n.d.). On September 28, 2017, Toy R Us reviled to the world how they believed they would turn ... The thread is well detailed and presented in a manner that is not confusing to the reader. To begin with, it is important that she starts out by highlighting the differences between the two. For most people, costing systems can mean almost the same but as described by Cohen Kaimenaki (2011), different situations will allow specific systems to be utilized. This is exactly what Hill has been able to communicate. It was wise to talk about the two systems separately, with each having its own paragraph. Five Dimensions The theory of MBM is rooted in the Science of Human Action and is defined by five dimensions: (figure 1) (GP, 2014). Until now I have never heard of or read about Market Based Management. I m privileged to know someone who worked at Georgia Pacific where the employees were required to take courses. They used guiding principles for reviews and evaluations. By using these dimensions along with the guiding principles we presume and organization will be successful both internal and external. This has been proved successful for Koch Industries, however there are still arguments that it doesn t apply to all business sectors. For example: Let s take the dimension Incentives. An employee performing the day to day activities improves a process and the accomplishments of time saving or elimination. Based on the MBM Incentive, this should be rewarded. This will be acknowledged by direct reports but then taken up the chain command, only to find out that it s not relevant at that level. How does this employee get rewarded based on the guidelines? Also, a salary increase would be an incentive for the employee to perform good work. In the MBM culture, salary is based on the market for the area the employee works in. A ... A Brief Note On British Literature And Composition Akshat Piprottar British Literature and Composition Mr. McRae Essay #1 Doublethink in 1984 Hungry for absolute dominance over their people, the totalitarian government known as the Party implements various tools, whether physical or ideological, into the common man. One of these tools is the idea of doublethink, where, holding both the absolute truth and the truth implanted by the Party in their minds, any given person can believe two contradicting ideas at once. George Orwell, the author of 1984, successfully shows the reader how doublethink cannot be practiced. In one of the plentiful scenes where O Brien tortures Winston, Winston fails to doublethink properly. Between the electric shocks, O Brien, holding up four fingers, asks Winston to count how many fingers. Trying to instill the value of doublethink in Winston, O Brien actually further demonstrates how flawed doublethink is. Winston suppose[s] there are four (288), trying to see five if I [Winston] could . Winston says he really wants to see them [the five fingers] , yet he still fails. After an electric shock, Winston experiences a vision of a forest of fingers... moving in a sort of dance . Orwell uses a metaphor for Winston s state of thought; his hazy vision is really just uncertainty in his mind. Trying desperately to see five fingers, Winston still can only either see four fingers or a hazy in between. There is no way for him to see both four and five fingers at the same time. Orwell uses this very literal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. The Effect Of Temperature On Blood Pressure And Heart Rate Teacher s Instruction: Design a lab that will examine a factor that affects blood pressure and heart rate. Research Question: What is the effect of temperature on blood pressure and heart rate? Introduction: Blood transports nutrients, oxygen, carbon dioxide, hormones, antibodies, urea and heat through our body. The heart is transports blood by pumping it through blood vessels. Blood flows from areas of high pressure to areas of low pressure. The pressure of blood in the circulatory system is a value called blood pressure (mmHg: millimeters of mercury ), which is measured by two numbers: systolic pressure and diastolic pressure. The systolic number is the pressure in the arteries when the heart beats (when the heart muscle contracts), while the diastolic number is pressure in the arteries between heartbeats (when the heart muscle is resting between beats and refilling with blood). The ideal blood pressure is 120/80 mmHg. Heart rate on the other hand is the number of times (in one minute) that the heart beats or contracts. A heart rate can be anywhere between 60 and 100 beats per minute. This experiment will involve five individuals putting their left hand in different samples of water of varying temperatures. Their blood pressure and heart rate will be recorded before the experiment, and after each water trial, to determine the effect it has on both the blood pressure and heart rate. • 22. Essay special education CONCEPTS AND DEFINITIONS OF DISABILITY The contemporary conception of disability proposed in the WHO International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) views disability as an umbrella term for impairments, activity limitations and participation restrictions. Disability is the interaction between individuals with a health condition (e.g. cerebral palsy, Down syndrome or depression) and personal and environmental factors (e.g. negative attitudes, inaccessible transportation, or limited social supports). Long ago there was great confusion over the meaning of terms such as impairment, handicap, or disability. Then, in 1980, the WHO provided great service by offering a clear way of thinking about it all in a little book ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Measurements of quality of life extend the disability focus beyond the ability to perform activities of daily living to include a broad range of functioning (work, home, play) and also the person s feelings of satisfaction and well being. This is necessarily a qualitative and subjective concept, judged by the patient in terms of the extent to which they are able to do the things they wish to do. In this medical context, quality of life is distinct from wealth or possessions, and to amke this clear you may see the term health related quality of life. Reflecting these evolving ideas, the WHO revised its Impairment, Disability and Handicap triad in 2001, re naming it the International Classification of Function (ICF). This classification system provides codes for the complete range of functional states; codes cover body structures and functions, impairments, activities and participation in society. The ICF also considers contextual factors that may influence activity levels, so function is viewed as an interaction between health conditions (a disease or injury) and the context in which the person lives (both physical environment and cultural norms relevant to the disease). It establishes a common language for describing functional states that can be used in comparing across diseases and countries. The ICF therefore uses positive language, so that activity and participation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 23. Character Analysis Of To Build A Fire By Jack London It was a clear day, and yet there seemed an intangible pall over the face of things, a subtle gloom that made the day dark, and that was due to the absence of the sun. Throughout Jack London s To Build a Fire there is a sense of slow burning dread as readers are introduced to the man and his gradual, but inevitable death, brought upon by himself. London s short story opens with the main character, a man, foolishly embarking on the long journey back to camp in the freezing Yukon, accompanied only by a husky mix. It is in this unforgivingly harsh weather that the man meets his fate, at his own hand. From the beginning of the story, the man displays flawed behaviors and personality traits that render him unable to survive on his solo journey in the Yukon, becoming his own worst enemy. One of the most prominent facets of the man s personality is his overwhelming arrogance. The man is a newcomer to the Yukon territory or chechaquo , and is inexperienced in the customs of the land. The man believes that he will be unaffected by the harsh conditions and does not seem to grasp the grave reality of the situation. This characteristic is displayed early in the story, when the man rebuffs the old timer s warning advice and later mocks the old man and his caution of the danger of traveling in the freezing temperatures, especially without a partner. Those old timers are rather womanish, some of them, he thought (1210). Despite the likelihood that the old timer has spent his lifetime in the area, the man considers his advice to be weak and believes, arrogantly, that he is superior in his masculinity and abilities. Eventually, the man realizes that he should have listened to the words of the old man in Sulphur Creek. Further, the man s arrogance is displayed again when he ignores the warning signs that the environment is not suitable for such a long solo trek. Despite the incredible cold, the man fails to comprehend just how miniscule he is compared to nature. ...the absence of sun from the sky, the tremendous cold, and the strangeness and weirdness of it all made no impression on the man (1205). The advocates for diagnosis of ADHD also point out that the treatment of ADHD with prescription drugs is actually very small and only one out of every three children diagnosed with ADHD is actually treated with prescription drugs (Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, para. 45). The article concludes by stating that although most experts have varying ideas and on ADHD they are all in agreement that the disorder needs more research. • 39. Layton s Essay On Rhetorical Analysis And Discussion Layton begins his essay describing what engineering is; that its work is in the marketplace rather than in a laboratory. He then states the engineer s dilemma is based on bureaucracy, not capitalism. Engineers are called the original organization man, and are important to large businesses, but a social revolution amongst them would not end their terms of marginality. Moving on, Layton then goes over engineering and its history in America. He then goes on to discuss professionalism. Many engineers have a concern for their social status, and seek to be on par with doctors and lawyers, and to do this, they must show more social responsibility. Layton quickly discusses autonomy, and then goes on to explain the pros of professionalism, and that it prevents engineers from becoming cogs in the industrial machine. Going on, Layton states that professionalism carries an air of elitism, and is not democratic in nature, but can serve democratic ends. It requires engineers to align with their profession. However, business resists ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The 1960s drug culture was a major epoch when the use of recreational drugs became widespread with the help of the media. The government missed an opportunity to enforce their drug laws during the emergence of drugs during this time which led to many problems afterwards; the government should have been stricter with their drug enforcement laws which could have prevented many problems: the widespread of LSD was dangerous to society, laws should be enforced so people cannot break them without consequences, and the damage of drug use depends on the type but is, ultimately, harmful to the user. Lysergic Acid Diethylamide, also known as LSD, is a drug that was originally developed by a Swiss chemist named Albert Hoffman, with the original purpose of stimulating breathing and blood circulation to help (Freeman, 2015). In the creation of the New Deal policies and Social Security, there was an inherent racist nature behind the opposition for comprehensive and universal policies. The idea of a form of social security went against the beliefs some had against big government. Because of this, many approached social policy with the mentality that because the market regulates itself, there should be no form of government intervention for when the market goes into crisis. We know this to not be true because of continual regulation of the market, either by government or business at the end of the day, those who can afford to save themselves from crisis can do so and those who cannot are left to the demise of the market.
