Asylum Seekers In Australia Essay
Asylum seekers are people who have left their home country to find asylum in another country as a
political refugee. Now in Australia, asylum seekers are being forced to detention centres by the
Australian government. Citizens of the Australian community are deciding whether asylum seekers
should be allowed to become residents in Australia. Asylum seekers should be given asylum in
Australia because they have not committed any crimes and Australia takes a minimum number of
asylum seekers in a year compared to other underdeveloped countries. Furthermore, asylum seekers
have greatly contributed to the Australian society.
The Australian government had signed The Refugee convention but are now not following the
fundamental articles in the convention. The Refugee convention is a series of articles that state how to
treat and help refugees and asylum seekers. Article 31 of the Refugee convention clearly states that
refugees should not be penalised for arriving without valid travel documents and how they arrive at
the country i.e by boat. If the person is seeking asylum, the action is not considered illegal. Asylum
seekers may not be able to obtain the travel documents because they do not have the identification
needed and they might not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many refugees and asylum seekers who have established themselves and contributed to the
Australian society.Research has shown, when refugees are given the kick start needed they make
important economic, civil and social contributions to the Australian society. Refugees and Asylum
seekers have found success in nearly every field of practice which include arts, sport, media, research
science and so on. Such people include, Anh Do a comedian, Henri Szeps an actor and Sir Gustav
Nossal a famous scientist. Without these refugees, Australia would not be the same as it is today.
These people prove that asylum seekers contribute to the Australian

Correlations Cause Crime
Hayley Taylor
Psychology 100
January 25, 2017
Correlation vs Causation A positive correlation means as one variable increases, the other increases.
Correspondingly, as one variable decreases, the other decreases. In this case, vitamins cause crime, is
stating that as more people intake vitamins, the rate of crime is increasing. Although this may be true,
it still does not prove that consuming more vitamins causes crime to rise. Correlation does not prove
causation. The article title, vitamins cause crime, is more accurately a correlation versus causation
fallacy. This fallacy is where a correlation can be assumed that the dependent variable (measures
effect) changes mainly because the independent variable (variable manipulated) changed. A
correlation does exist, however, interpreting the casual association was wrong. Although ... Show

To do this, a researcher would divide the participants into four groups: a maximum number of
vitamins, minimum number of vitamins, a placebo, and no vitamins. During this experiment, the
researcher would have to keep track and record how many people get charged for a crime during this
experimental process. The independent variable would be the amount of vitamins distributed to each
participant. There would also be a control group present and another group that is given a placebo to
avoid the placebo effect. For the other two groups that are given, the maximum and minimum amount
of vitamins, the researcher should see if there is a difference between the amount of vitamins given.
The dependent variable would be how many of the participants are charged for a crime. The key part
of making this a true double blind study is having the researcher tell the participants that this
experiment to test for a different variable. Leaving the part out about it testing for crime rates will
keep things unbiased and have accurate

Noonan Syndrome Research Paper
Overview Noonan syndrome is a disorder caused by a genetic mutation that causes various parts of the
patient s body to develop abnormally. The condition occurs when a parent passes on an affected gene
to their child that produces constantly active proteins, leading to a disruption in the process of normal
cell division and growth. Science currently knows of eight genes in which a mutation can cause the
disorder. In some cases, there is no family history and the mutation is spontaneous. Symptoms One of
the main indications of Noonan syndrome is the abnormal development of the person s face, which
varies at different ages. Newborn babies generally have low set ears, slanting or wide set eyes, and a
short neck, among other features. Infants

Food Loss And Its Effects On Food Production
Introduction
In an age of plenty, there continues to be considerable and intolerable inefficiencies that generate
extreme consequences in this world. Food loss is a pure example of this. Food loss represents the
edible amount of food that is available for human consumption but is not consumed for any reason,
which is discarded towards the front of the food supply chain, including harvest, post harvest, and
processing (Lipinski 2013). The production of the food in the United States is inefficient because of its
inability to create and process food without generating excessive amounts of waste. In the United
States alone, about 40 percent of its food is wasted daily much of it due to ineffectual food production
processes. In and of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of these foods, fresh produce naturally has the greatest production losses due to its perishable nature
(Gunders 7). Farmers grow their crops in accordance with demand, although it is exceedingly difficult
to gauge that specific match. It is important, however, to separate the category of farming into two
distinct measures, as they differ in how food loss is analyzed: unharvested food and lost food between
production and consumption. Farmers, whether it is through a small family owned farm or a highly
industrialized factory farm, are required to provide very dependable volumes that not only meet the
quantity expectations of buyers, but the quality specifications that become extremely inspected. To
provide insurance for themselves at the risk of losing crops due to unforeseen circumstances, like bad
weather, pests, blemishes, or other imperfections, farmers will naturally grow more than they are
expected to sell, as they have little to no choice in worrying about customers (NRDC 2012). This
predication is based on the prerogatives that each of these farmers choose to go through they would
much rather see their produce go to waste than the potential of losing profit, which leads to great food
loss. This is a classic example of production exceeding demand. The economic realities for farmers
are too significant to ignore.
Market prices also hold significant reign on whether or not farmers

7 Minutes Of Terror Essay
Sometimes when we look at it, it looks crazy, said Adam Steltzner. Adam is an engineer who works
for NASA, a part of the United States government that explores space. Adam was talking about
landing something on Mars. It is the result of reasoned engineering thought. But it still looks crazy.
Adam and some of the people he works with made a video called Seven Minutes of Terror about a
Mars landing. In the video, they introduced people around the world to one of the most daring and
creative achievements of engineering ever completed. That achievement was the pinpoint landing of
Curiosity on Mars. Curiosity is a machine called a rover, and it was built to explore the surface of
Mars.
The seven minutes described in Adam s video refer to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead, engineers came up with a maneuver that would allow the craft carrying Curiosity to turn
quickly. Then, rockets would turn on and allow Curiosity to make a vertical landing.
Switching from a parachute to a controlled rocket descent could have gone wrong at any time. Still,
even getting the descent right was not enough to succeed. Once the parachute was cut free, the force
from the rockets could raise so much dust that the dust itself could damage the rover.
Always thinking ahead, the engineers came up with a solution. They created a device to complete the
last step of the landing. The device was called a sky crane. When the sky crane was close to Mars s
surface, it used a set of cables to lower Curiosity onto the ground.
At last Curiosity landed, going from 13,000 miles per hour to zero in just seven minutes. The capsule
that had been carrying Curiosity still had all its rockets firing. It blasted back into the sky and landed
somewhere else on the planet. The landing was a success.
The Ongoing Mission
NASA says that the MSL mission is part of a long term plan. This plan uses robots to explore Mars.
The most popular question is whether there ever was life on Mars. Looking for the answer to that

Amish Demographic Report
Descriptive epidemiology focus on how a disease is spread within a population. This can be done in
three different approaches such as counts, case series, and cross sectional studies. The observation of
the Amish population in Lancaster, PA favors the application of the cross sectional method of
descriptive epidemiology.
Analyzing the population health in the Amish group requires some understanding of the Amish people.
It is a special population where their perspectives on health is shaped by their religious beliefs and
cultures. The Amish settled in four counties in Pennsylvania with an estimate of 44, 106 people were
approximately 35,000 reside in Lancaster county. Their beliefs and values rooted from the bible which
resulted in living a life of self surrender, submission, yielding to the will of God and to others,
contentment, and a calm spirit . To date the Amish don t use electricity, don t own a personal car, don t
use public transportation except for major reason. Formal education stops at eight grade; very few
Amish, have a high school diploma, or a college degree. Consequently, most of the them live below
the poverty level. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Amish is less likely to seek medical attention for minor issues. As noted in The Amish Study web
page the Amish society accepts responsibility for their own actions and chooses not to depend on
services offered by the state. For example, Amish communities opt out of the government funded
insurance, including the Affordable Care Act. This Act allows employees of large companies to
acquire health insurance and allows insurance options for low income individuals and families. As a
result, this society thrives on helping each other and sharing each other s burdens. To assist one
another, they willingly offer donations when a member of their community becomes ill. When illness
arises, persons often tend to postpone seeking treatment until the last

Reducing The Primary Cesarean Section Rate
Reducing the Primary Cesarean Section Rate in Nulliparous Women:
A Quality Improvement Project

fulfillment of the requirements for NUDO 7018
Introduction
Background
Healthy childbirth is defined as a safe, natural process that rarely requires medical intervention (Goer
Romano, 2012). The medical model of care, however, often includes interventions that are not
supported by the evidence and can increase a woman s risk of having a cesarean section. These
intrusions into labor and birth often lead to what has been called the cascade of interventions

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services are also requiring participating hospitals with more
than 1,100 births a year to report their primary cesarean section rates. Theses rate will be published in
2016 (The Joint Commission, 2013).
Local Problem Lutheran Medical Center (LMC), one of eight hospitals in the Sister s of Charity of
Leavenworth Health System, had the second highest cesarean section rate in the system in 2014 (SCL
Health, 2015). Westside Women s Care (WWC), a privately owned obstetrics practice, employs 14
providers who attend approximately 65% of the births at LMC. WWC s primary cesarean section rate
from March 2014 to March 2015 was 34.8%, the highest of all LMC provider groups. The primary
cesarean section rate in Colorado in 2012 was 17.4% and the Healthy People 2020 goal for primary
cesarean section is 23.9% (Osterman Martin, 2014; U.S. Department of Health and Human Services,
2015). To help decrease the primary cesarean section rate at WWC and subsequently LMC, a quality
improvement project (QIP) team was formed composed of providers from WWC and administrators
and nurses at LMC. A root cause analysis was conducted and Fishbone diagram were developed (See
Appendix A). Several themes emerged as contributing to the high cesarean section rate. These

Louisville And Nashville R. V. Mottley Summary
Case Citation: Louisville and Nashville R. Co. v. Mottley, 211 U.S. 149 (1908)
Parties: Louisville and Nashville Railroad Company, Petitioner E.L Mottley and Annie E. Mottley,
Defendants
Facts: E.L. Mottley and his wife, Annie E. Mottley, (plaintiffs) were passengers on board a train
operated by the Louisville and Nashville Railroad Company (defendants). Both the plaintiffs and the
defendant are citizens of the state of Kentucky. The plaintiffs, while passengers on board a train, were
injured in a train wreck on September 7, 1871. The defendants offered the injured plaintiffs a free pass
from the defendant s railroad company in exchange for the agreement that they would not bring suit
upon the defendant. The plaintiffs accepted the free passes which would be renewed yearly. Several
decades later, in 1906, a law was passed by the U.S. Congress banning free railroad passes. This was
passed in order to prevent bribery on government workers and officials. This caused the defendant to
refuse the plaintiffs renewal of their free passes in which they then filed suit for specific performance
in the Circuit Court for the Western District of Kentucky. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The plaintiffs stated that the law that was passed by congress did not apply to them because that law
was passed decades after they were offered and they accepted the free passes from the defendants.
They also argued that if the law passed by congress did apply to them then the law should be
considered unconstitutional due to the law depriving the defendants their property without due process
of law. The defendant attempted to object the pleadings of the plaintiff in which the judge of the
Circuit court overruled and awarded relief to the plaintiffs. The defendants then appealed straight to
the United States Supreme

The Characteristics Of Classism In The Classical Period
The Classical period, sometimes called the Hellenic period, began in the 5th and 4th centuries BC.
During the Classical period, Greece succeeded its maximum level of success both culturally and
economically. The ancient Greeks strode to perfect both the body and mind. Classism has caused a
significant amount of changes in the art world which allowed them to express themselves through
their art spiritually. Classism s qualities still are featured throughout the artworks that are being made
today. Some of this movement s features would include how most of the sculptures that are done are
idealized. Idealism is when someone is painted, or sculpted with the ideal body and face. Realism is
another feature in Classical Art. Realism is seeking truth through the artwork, they could no longer
achieve the look they were going for by just chiseling away at a block of stone. Therefore, they based
they techniques on modelling, by building first out of clay on new models and then they would copy
them into stone. One of the last main features in this movement would be how mathematically correct
everything is. Artists in these eras were very conscious about correct proportions, measurements, and
symmetry. That is how those artists made it possible to create such perfect and idealized masterpieces.
A sculptural example of Classical Art is The Spear Bearer . This entailed careful observation of a
model as well as understanding of the mechanics of anatomy of how a body shifts from a pose,

What Was Paris In The 1920s
Paris in the 1920s Paris is known for its beautiful attractions, the diversity from entertainment to

of reasons depending on what an individual was going through, or what would be going over there at
the time. A war had just ended and all of what was wanted was joy, happiness, and the freedom to
express an individual and their values. This was the time to talk about things that went on in the past
and the changes that were occuring. During the 1920s, Paris was a huge inspirational and forever

Inspirational because it got people from the US, people who were going through their own

places could change by a freedom of one being the wish of another. This is already the case for places
like Africa, North Korea, and China who are less free places. All could be changed into a more free
place with determination and those within those places realizing that there is something better. People
go to different places for a variety of reasons already so let s do the same for the less free countries. It
all starts with the minority who realize things are wrong and can be better for anything to change. The

The New Arts Education Plan
With the upcoming addition of our middle school we will be developing a sixth, seventh, and eighth
grade arts program consistent with the frameworks of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years
Programme. The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme requires visual and performing
arts for all students and demands much more of students and teachers than our more traditional
elementary arts program. We hope to provide an arts rich school community to all our students. The
new arts education plan would continue our focus on developing knowledge about art forms in various
contexts, developing the language of art, and learning how to respond to and evaluate art. Within this
new arts education plan we also hope to offer a more diverse range of art materials to our students
such as ceramics, sculpture, pottery, weaving, metalworking, and stained glass. These new materials
would allow our students opportunities to create higher level art, be exposed to portions of art history
that are often forgotten, and work in new ways that were once limited by only creating 2D art. We
hope to create this new arts education plan for our new middle school while maintaining a strong
elementary arts education program. Drama, music, and visual arts are important parts of our students
week. These courses allow our students to learn life skills such as respect, communication,
perseverance, problem solving, accountability, and collaboration, while reinforcing and integrating

Essay on A Look Into Germany
Country background: Germany is currently the second most populous nation in Europe and one of the
continents largest economies [1]. Since the early half 20th century the nation has gone through 2
world wars. Germany was originally divided into two former states known as the western federal
republic of Germany (FRG) and the eastern German democratic republic (GDR). The FRG was a key
member of western security, and economic organizations. The communist GDR was mainly involved
with the Soviet led Warsaw pact. By the end of the cold war western and eastern Germany were
eventually united as one nation in 1990 [1]. Germany is a member of NATO, G8 summit and the

wetlands and sandy soil. Natural resources include coal, cooper, uranium and arable land. Flooding is
one of common natural hazards in the country [2]. The major rivers are the Weser, Rhine, Weser and
the Danube. The first three both flow northward ending up in the North Sea. The Danube River flows
east of more 1700 km which eventually reaches the black sea in Romania. Lake Constance is the
largest lake in Germany which lies at the border separating Austria, and Switzerland [2].
Demographics:
The current population of Germany is about 82,329,758. It is the 14th most populous nation in the
world with more than 80 cities and with up to 100,000 inhabitants. More than 15 million of the
German population is of non decent [3]. Since the early 1960 s Germany has attracting migrants from
across Europe as well as Northern Africa, and Turkey. Refuges from several developing countries
consider Germany as a prime destination due to the changes in its constitution giving rights to asylum

Virtual Study Hall
Every end of marking period and progress check some students rush to complete all their work on
time. They may have loads of lessons due and are rushing to complete them. Sometimes there are
virtual study hall days on the ends of marking periods or progress checks though, and those let
students work on past assignments without having to work on new lessons. The thing is, they don t
have them every end of marking period or progress check. One thing I think that would make progress
checks and marking periods less stressful would be to have virtual study halls every end of marking
period/progress check, so let s look at some ways a study hall would be beneficial to students and
teachers alike!
So first of all, teachers would have a better day ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most of the time marking periods and progress checks are very stressful. But if there was a virtual
study hall day at the end of every marking period/progress check, it would make things a lot easier for
the students. Students would only have to work on past assignments and would also want to work
harder so they can have the day off. Who knows, maybe they would even want to work ahead on
lessons, too.
Finally, students would be able to complete all their work on time. It would allow students with
lessons that have piled up over time to be able to get them done. It would also mean less assignments
due. In the end it,would probably just amount to more students getting assignments finished before the
due date. Because of this study hall days would most likely help lots of students.
On the other hand, teachers have to post a certain amount of lessons each year. In order to combat this
problem, the school would just subtract off certain days from breaks. Or maybe they would have a few
more days of school before summer break. Also,it could just mean having more lessons posted on
other days. Either way, the teachers would be able to post the required number of lessons, and students
would have the needed time before important

The Success Of A Circle Time
Successful Circle Time Circle time is one of the most fun and creative times of the school day.
Preschool children, typically ages three to around six, are very hands one and mobile. They want to
move about and explore things around them. For any teacher struggling with circle time and keeping
the attention of their students I would suggest multiple tips on how to keep students engaged. One is to
make circle time interactive and get the students involved in the circle time. An example would be
giving each student a part in a song or a story to act out. Another suggestion would be to start each
circle time with a song and dance so that students can release some of the energy that they have and be
ready to focus during circle time. It is also a great idea to have students move around during circle
time so they are not getting restless and moving in anyway they want (). Two very key things for circle
time to be a success is to be consistent with circle time and have it daily so that students know what to
expect. I have observed activities like reviewing the calendar, weather, and reading a short book.
Finally, one must be aware and patient of the disturbances that will pop up during circle time. Know
that students are all developing in different ways and not one is like the other. While one student may
sit attentively for a prolonged period of time, another may not be at that point yet. Plan circle time
around your students needs and it will be a very happy experience for

Birth Control Importance
The Importance of Teenage Access to Contraceptives
About 77% of all teenage pregnancies are accidental, and of those, 30% end in abortion, the solution
preventing the unwanted pregnancies at hand is the guaranteed access to over the counter birth
control. Girls avoid contraceptives for many reasons, whether it be prohibiting parents, lack of
education, or monetary issues concerning health care. These limitations cumulatively lead to teenage
pregnancies, which amount to far greater sacrifice and consequence than the simple ability for a
teenage girl to walk into a pharmacy and purchase a pill, or patch of her choice which could prevent a
child being brought into this world to unwilling, and incompetent parents. Access to over the counter
birth control could solve these problems, and ultimately limit the amount of teenage pregnancies in
America.

parents don t allow her to take birth control in the first place, why would they be pleased with the idea
of her having sex? Easier access can put a cap on this embarrassment and discomfort and create a less
negative connotation on the subject of birth control for teenage girls. This could also improve upon the

Complications Of The French Revolution
The French Revolution (1789 1799) had significant, far reaching implications. In Britain it permeated
every level of society. Not only did politicians change their allegiances, but moderate reformers were
radicalised, and British society was completely divided into supporters and detractors of the
Revolution. It also resulted in a drastic politicisation of Ireland, changing the nature of politics
completely. The British government was threatened by the French Revolution because they saw what
was happening in France and saw the beginnings of the process in their own country. The prospect of
a revolution of that scale in Britain was unthinkable and something had to be done.
The initial reaction to the French Revolution in Britain was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The ideological issues raised by the French Revolution served as a catalyst for British domestic
politics subsequently leading to the development of a Tory Party in Britain as those who followed
Burke followed him to William Pitt the Younger who established the first Tory government. Pitt s
initial lacklustre reaction to the Revolution had changed rapidly with the growth of radicalism in
Britain, especially after Thomas Paine published his Rights of Man in 1791, condemning it as a
monstrous doctrine . This new Tory government that had been established was much less tolerant of
reformers in a time where radical reformers were far more common and were feeding off the energy of
the French Revolution.
In the 1770s, a movement for parliamentary reform began in Britain under the leadership of middle
class men such as John Cartwright and Christopher Wyvill. When the Revolution in France began in
1789 this movement began to grow rapidly, and an atmosphere of revolutionary fervour spread across
Britain, inspiring reformers. In many ways the French Revolution acted as a template of reform to

The Catastrophe With The Deepwater Horizon
The catastrophe with the Deepwater Horizon was horrible. Eleven people lost their lives that day, and
marine wildlife was affected along with other economic issues for anglers and tourism industries. The
Deepwater Horizon oil spill had devastating effects on the local environment and on the public
perception of offshore oil drilling. Five million barrels of oil over a three month period flooded the
Gulf of Mexico. The Macondo oil spill, which is what it became called, had an overwhelming impact
on the environment. Moreover, oil was scattered over 1300 miles of shoreline from Texas to Florida.
In an attempt to clean up the spill, there was incalculable damage was done to fish and other wildlife,

The History of Windows
Ever since the invention of the micro computer, there has been a definitive war between companies
competing for their share of the professional and private computer market. There have been hundreds
of operating systems produced over the years, most of them were not able to maintain a solid customer
base, and became extinct. There are a few, however, that have eclipsed the computer world. There is a
definite line between consumers for the three most popular operating systems, UNIX, Macintosh, and
Windows. Microsoft, who produced Windows, gained wide public support almost from the beginning,
leading to a near monopolization of the computer software industry. Here is a history of the Windows
operating system as it was introduced back in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

writing applications rather than device drivers. Graphical upgrades included the icon based file
manager and program manager, making access to data much easier. The addition of the well known
card game solitaire also made its debut in the 3.0 version of Windows. Another big leap for Windows
3.x was that it could run in three different memory modes (Windows Products and Technologies

Standard mode was the most common running mode, as it was most compatible with the 286

faster memory access. In 386 Enhanced mode, the user could run several MS DOS based programs,
each in their own window, at the same time. Third party programming support for the 3.0 version
exploded, and application companies all over the world were developing programs compatible with
Windows 3.0. In the first year of its release, version 3.0 sold

The Effect Of Tsunami On Politics And Summer
Is there a connection, if not causality, between tsunami in politics and summer? No one seems to have
carefully studied the association or no one has bothered to post their findings on google. My google
search returned anything but this association. But something must be there to explain as to why
political activities reach their crescendo in the warm season.
July appears to be the month of political turmoil across the world this year. Not every turmoil has
manifested in July, though. Some appeared before the month, but left behind a trail of perilous
aftereffects for July. Some occurred in this very month. All of them have serious consequences, some
for their countries and the wider world and others largely for their respective countries. Some political
convulsions will emerge in the remaining days of this summer.
The most earthshaking tsunami has culminated in the United States. Started early this year, the
presidential primaries have reached their apex. The Republican Party has coronated Donald Trump
reportedly a nativist, xenophobic, Islamophobic, Mexicophobic, and isolationist bigot and real estate
tycoon with frequent records of bankruptcies and bullying as its official candidate in its quadrennial
convention in Cleveland last week.
The United States and the world have much to fear of global economic and political instability from
the Manichean Donal Trump if he wins the presidential election in November this year. Even the fear
of a Third World War is being

Elite Running Research Paper

For my Internal Assessment, I am going to investigate the characteristics of elite runners. As a high

seem to glide through the air effortlessly. By researching the characteristics of their running, I believe
that I can become a better runner by implementing some of their mechanics. In theory, running may
seem like a simple motion. However, maintaining proper form while physically exerting every muscle
in your lower body is no simple task. Every four years, the best athletes from around the globe come

To start, I explored the relationship that existed between distance and speed. The speeds of the top
three male and female athletes at each distance have been plotted. For both men and women, there is
an inverse exponential relationship between the speed of the athlete and the event distance. This trend
shows a logical relationship because as the distance of a race increases, the athletes are going to be
slower because running for a longer amount of time requires energy to be conserved.
In order to develop an equation which represents this relationship, I am going to graph the speed of
each athlete against the log of their distance. Because this is an exponential relationship, the log of x is
proportional to speed. This means that when log of distance is plotted along the x axis, a linear trend
will be produced. Once these points are plotted, I will calculate a regression line using linear
regression. Once this equation is found, log x can be substituted into the equation for the value of x,
this new equation would be the regression line for the correlation between speed and

Henry David Thoreau Symbolism
Henry David Thoreau was a complex writer and used a lot of symbolism to help express some of his
meaning. For example, in Where I Lived, and What I Lived For he used morning and bathing as
symbols for the point he was trying to get across. Thoreau referenced bathing as a religious exercise,
and it was a method of renewing oneself, They say that characters were engraven on the bathing tub of
King Tching thang to this effect: Renew thyself completely each day; do it again, and again, and
forever again (Thoreau 102). Obviously whenever you take a bath you are not going to become a new
person, but Thoreau is saying that bathing in the morning is refreshing and makes you feel fresher and
more motivated throughout the day. To Thoreau morning was, A cheerful invitation to make my life of
equal simplicity, and I may say innocence, with Nature herself (Thoreau 102). He was all about
simplicity which was the main reason that he moved into the woods in the first place. He goes on to

Mentuwoser had many accomplishments and was thought to be a man of the people. The Stela of
Mentuwoser displays the respect people had for him and what he had done for the people of his
nation. It also gives us a look into some of the traditions of his time. The Stela clearly expresses the

Needless to say, the artist makes it pretty clear that the Stela is a tribute to Mentuwoser by making him
the undeniable focal point of the image. The image shown also gives the viewer a glimpse into some
of the traditions of the days of the Middle Kingdom. The food served in the image is displayed
vertically in order of the meal s courses from bottom to top. It included many different food items
including bread, ribs, and squash among a few more. It is likely that these items were common for
feasts of this importance, giving us an idea of what foods were likely to be valuable or desired back in
the Middle Kingdom. Secondly, in the inscriptions, the Stela makes it clear that the visual of
Mentuwoser and the prayers that are written on the Stela are to give him nourishment and rebirth
during annual festivals that honor Osiris. At these festivals, family members would visit and honor the
stelae in the chapels they were displayed in. By using both visual and written commemoration, the
Stela is able to reach those who were unable to read. Both factors give the viewer an enormous look
into Egyptian tradition and religion, showing the importance of the afterlife in their culture and the
respect they have for the dead. There are many features the artist uses to display the views the people
of Mentuwoser s time had for him. The last line of the inscriptions on the stela reads as follows: ...as

Theme Of Social Status In Wuthering Heights
Since the beginning of civilization, one s wealth, and status were determining factors that influenced
their place in a stratified society. In Emily Bronte s novel Wuthering Heights, the author embodied the
realities of England s class system during the Victorian Era. During this Era, people were born into a
class and stayed there. This was essentially captured by the idea that social mobility was rare and
limited. Bronte uses characters such as Catherine, Heathcliff and Edgar as well as the second
generation as a tool to emphasize the differences in class, and how it ultimately impacted the fate of
the characters.Through the use of symbolism and juxtaposition, Bronte exemplifies that the potency of
love and relationships cannot outweigh the necessity social status. While many will argue the
impracticality of social status being the determining factor of one s way of life, this is most notably
seen through Catherine Earnshaw. Catherine Earnshaw: A woman confused about her own identity
and her love, ultimately led her to choose status and power over love. In fact, since the
commencement of Catherine s story, the readers are able to see that her character transforms from
being high spirited and rebellious into a proper girl. This notion of a proper girl, is derived from the
standards that society sets. There is a particular way in which one acts, due to its class or status. For
instance, Catherine exhibits this in Chapter 9, when she informs Nelly,

In the event that a fire does start, suppression activities would be carried out faster and more
effectively than those areas that have gone without treatment. Proof of this can be found within a
study that was done after the 2002 Biscuit Fire that happened within the Kalmiopsis Wilderness in
Southern Oregon. Scientists on a research team studied the damage of the fire in areas that had
previously been treated by having ground and ladder fuels removed via thinning/cutting and
prescribed underburning. These areas showed the least tree mortality of any other areas within the fire.
The areas with the highest tree mortality included those that had been thinned but ground fuels had not
been removed as well as areas that had had no prior treatment. David Peterson, a research biologist

Examples Of Manipulation In The Knife Of Never Letting Go
People are seduced by signals from the world, but that is manipulation, not reality. Douglas Rushkoff.

others say, and believe what they do. Well, this situation also applies to the book I read, The Knife Of
Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness. This story is set in Prentisstown, a small section of the New World.
The Old World has become difficult to live in, and people started moving to a New World. Sounds
weird and unusual, but it s okay for now. Right? Well, things start getting more peculiar, when we find

unusual, is that men can hear each other s thoughts! However, things start changing when we find out
that women were not killed by the spackles, and the men and boys were manipulated to follow what

Iran s Nuclear Program
The Islamic Republic of Iran s conquest for nuclear energy technology commenced during the 1950 s,
inspired by U.S President Dwight Eisenhower s program called Atoms for Peace . This program
fabricated a plan in which the U.S Atomic Energy Commission would lend Iran as much as 13.2
pounds of low enriched uranium in order to further develop their nuclear industries, including health
care and medicine.i Two years following the agreement, Shah Mohammed Reza Pahlavi established

It became known in the 1990 s that Iran had certainly renewed their civilian nuclear projects, and
Western tension continued to increase following 2002 and 2003 reports that Iran began clandestine
research into fuel enrichment and conversion. This sparked international controversy over the
intentions behind Iran s nuclear program beyond civilian or peaceful purposes. For example, the
Isfahan Nuclear Technology Center is suspected to house Iran s nuclear weapons programs, and is also
the alleged location of Iran s uranium conversion efforts.iv It is estimated that as many as 366 tons of
uranium hexafluoride has been produced since 2004. This is then fed into centrifuges at another key

Still, Iran continuously denies that its nuclear objectives are to construct atomic weapons, but a large

The Federal Emergency Management Agency
The Rise and Fall of Legitimacy: A Review of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)
from 1979 to 2005
Introduction
Legitimacy is the lifeblood of an organization. With conflict and competition a clear winner is
considered legitimate. Cooperation, however, offers the potential for legitimacy for multiple parties. A
legitimate organization has authority based on being representative, accountable, responsible,
effectiveness, efficiency, minimal interference from political pressure, and established rules. Rules
provide a rational foundation for procedures and operations. Administrative decisions grounded in
established rules are the basis of a legal rational authority and ensure that decisions are not biased or
influenced. Weber (1922) and Stillman (1998) identify the application of established, impersonal rules
and procedures as an important characteristic of an organization and crucial to a legitimate authority.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has seen a rise and fall regarding its view of
legitimacy between the years of 1979 and 2005. FEMA carried a reputation for a lack of legitimacy

Task Switching Behavior
Video games have become one of the most popular forms of entertainment. Video games require
players to manipulate images on a screen. In general, those that play video games experience
improvements in hand eye coordination. This is logical, considering the quick movements one must
use to complete a video game. Video games also require the player to perform mental processes
similar to those the player would perform in the real world. With this in mind, it is possible that certain
video games can improve mental processes that are exercised within the virtual world. Studies have
investigated if and how driving, action, and puzzle video games improve visual skills and risk
perception, dual task and task switching skills, and broader executive ... Show more content on

As stated in the study video gamers outperformed non gamers in the dual task situation ts(18) 3.205,
ps .01, (***). Furthermore, the gamers outperformed nongamers on the task switching therefore.
Interesting enough, there was no significant difference in single task performance between the two
groups. While these findings seem promising, there is no way to say that the differences in dual task
and task switching performances were caused by video game play. Therefore, the investigators
decided to perform another experiment. The purpose of the experiment was to see if action video
games are responsible for the difference in performance on these tests. The researchers picked two
video games for the experiment: Medal of Honor and Tetris. Medal of Honor is an action video game
and Tetris is a puzzle game. It was hypothesized that playing Medal of Honor would create
improvements in the dual task and task switching tests while Tetris would not create an improvement.
In the between subjects experiment, 32 college students were randomly separated into three groups, 10
in the Medal of Honors group, 10 in the Tetris group, and 12 in the control group, whom were not
exposed to any video games. The experiment consisted of a pretest, conditioning trials, and a posttest.
During the pretest, all three groups were took the dual task and the task switching tests. After the tests,
the two experimental groups practiced their respective video games in 15 one hour sessions over four
weeks. The control group did not practice either video game. Finally, the three groups retook the two
tests, and the difference in performance was found. The independent variable of the experiment was
video game, with the levels being Medal of Honor, Tetris, and no game. The dependent variable was
change in performance from pretest to

Short Story The Lesson
The short story The Lesson by Toni Cade Bambara was written in 1972. The Lesson was a first person
point of view story, it was told by a young girl named, Sylvia. This story tells about the shopping trip
that the teacher of the class, Miss Moore, took the children. The main ideas of this story are the
economic life style, social inequality, and lack of equal education for the African Americans. Miss
Moore tries to teach the kids there is a better life in a small trip to the toy store. Sylvia gets angry with
Miss Moore taking them to the toy store, not understanding why she would take them. The way Toni
Bambara wrote The Lesson in first person narration gives the story realism. The story The Lesson is
told by a little girl named Sylvia, and it is about her class and Miss Moore going to a toy store. Before
they leave, Miss Moore tells them how money is not being fairly handed out in the country and tells
them where they are living is called the slums and that they are poor. They all get in two separate cabs;
Sylvia and a couple of friends are in one, Miss Moore and the rest of the class are in the other cab.
When they got out they realized they are on Fifth Avenue, as Sylvia explains Then we check out that
we on Fifth Avenue and everybody dressed up in stockings. One lady in a fur coat, hot as it is. White
folks crazy (Bambara, 1972). Miss Moore directs them to big windows of a building and they see all
these nice things in windows saying how much they really want

The Day My Little Sister
Looking back on life, there are many little moments that stand out. Some, more than others, have
shaped you in a way that changed the trajectory of your life. These moments can be anything, walking
left may have saved you from being mugged, choosing the wrong car can get you stranded in the
middle of nowhere. These little choices and events have a way of forming how we are going to live
our lives. There are days that are more important than others, however, for me only one comes to
mind. The day my little sister, Emily, was born is the most important day of my existence, this day
altered my life for the better. When I was an only child, I never felt lonesome. I was constantly the
center of attention. When I was not with my parents, I was with my Ma and Pa my grandparents I
could do anything I wanted to do, because they allowed it. Although, I always had a small suspicion
that I was missing out on something. My friends had younger siblings, as I observed their interactions
I discovered what I was missing out on. I exhausted myself for hours trying to determine if I wanted a
brother or a sister. Eventually, after thinking it over I implored my parents for a little sister. Years later,
my parents told me they were frightened of my reaction if I happened to get a brother. Nonetheless, I
got precisely what I wanted. Emily was born on a bright Friday morning. I was there the entire time,
amusing myself with my life sized baby doll as I sat in the waiting room. I wanted to help

Essay on Confronting Death in Poetry
Confronting Death in Poetry Raised fists and a fading smile usually follow the confrontation of death
as we experience the first stages of denial in the grieving process. We not only grieve at the loss of a
loved one, but at the loss of our own life as well. When death rears its ugly head, it demands this
response. Whether through art or science, humor or ritual, mankind marks and confronts this passage
with both defiance and trepidation that eventually turns into acceptance and submission.
The fear of death seems to be based on two things: the finality of death and the uncertainty of what
follows. Many works have been written on the topic, some to offer consolation, others hope, and still
others to urge readers to correct their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With this knowledge we plan our future, cherish expectations, hopes and dreams. Frost portrays that
the dreams of the boy are dashed as he comes to the next stage of grieving, that of acceptance. Frost
write, ...Then the boy saw all / Since he was old enough to know... / He saw all spoiled (Frost 22, 23,
25)
Frost then takes the reader through a similar grieving process as the family and friends of the boy
experience some, or possibly all, of the same stages of grief that the boy experienced. It is stark
reminder of the lives of the ordinary and of the many families who lost many children before they
reached their teenage years. Disease and the lack of medical science back then resulted in a higher
death rate of young children.
And then the watcher at his pulse took fright No one believed. They listened at his heart... No more to
build on there. And they.... turned to their affairs. (Frost 30, 31, 33, 34)
At this stage the grieving survivors cut each tie and relinquish the bonds that link them to the
deceased. Frost depicts that the grieving will have to come to terms with the many life changes that
may follow the boys death yet there is utter helplessness that life must go on as they turn away to their
affairs.
Edwin Robinson s Richard Corey takes another look at death, through the eyes of the common folk.
As he spins the tale of Richard Corey, a rich man, he shows that to some the good life consists of

Psychological Disorders In Lewis Carroll s Alice In...
If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is, because
everything would be what it isn t. And contrary wise, what is, it wouldn t be. And what it wouldn t be,
it would. You see? Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland. Furthermore, a desire for one to bend the
world as they see fit, even when what they see fit isn t meant to be. There are many ways to read the
novel Alice in Wonderland , it holds not one point of view, but many which can be interpreted in
several ways. Analyzed from the critical viewpoint of physiological, readers may discover some
interesting and remarkable surprises. The specific point I would like to discuss today are the
physiological disorders this novel holds, such as the lunatic Red Queen who was wrapped whole with
narcissistic behaviors and personality disorders, the unimaginable feeling of loneliness portrayed
throughout Alice s adventure, and a dream anxiety disorder/psychosis or schizophrenia which
represented itself as the actual story, viewed through the main character Alice. To begin with, there are
many characters in Alice in Wonderland, who, despite the normality in their world, are rather odd; all
whom which held a distinctive characteristic that revolved around all their actions, words, and
surroundings. The Red Queen, who is described to have a very large head, portrays a character who is
full of herself, hence the size of the head; she frequently tends to put herself in a position in which she

Essay on Examining a Business Failure
Examining a Business Failure: Tyco International Ltd. ®
LDR 531
August 23, 2010
Examining a Business Failure: Tyco International Ltd. ® Many have heard the proverb, A chain is
only as strong as its weakest link. This can be directly applied to business organizations through
analysis of the three strongest and/or weakest links: managers, leaders and the organizational
structure. These three areas provide the central core to any organization and are often linked to
dramatic failures and consequences when weaknesses arise. In this paper, the student will discuss the
2002 failure of Tyco International Ltd. ® (Tyco) in which the Securities and Exchange Commission
(SEC) filed a lawsuit claiming fraud, reporting violations, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While this was only one of many claims held by the SEC, it shows the fraudulent nature of the
accusations. Additionally, the SEC pursued harsh consequences for the crimes as a means to offer
restitution to all investors damaged by the executive s actions (U.S. Securities and Exchange
Commission, 2010).
Managers and Leaders While it is difficult to offer a specific definition of a manager and leader, the
type of control used to manage/persuade employees can offer a clear distinction. A manager often uses
a bureaucratic, authoritative style, and a leader most often relies on charisma and influence to achieve
goals. Neither style is better than the other; however, one may achieve greater results dependent upon
the situation. According to Yuki, within the management atmosphere, many decision processes are
disorderly and political (2006, p. 26). In the case with Tyco, many actions completed by the
accounting department were highly political, being based upon information directly from the CEO.
During the legal investigation, the SEC found that no employees (with the exception of those
specifically named in the lawsuit) were found in violation of any law. The SEC concluded that

Systemic Lupus Erythematous
There are many varieties of lupus, but the most common one is Systemic Lupus Erythematous (SLE).
SLE, commonly referred to as lupus, is a chronic autoimmune inflammatory disease that can affect all
of the organs. There has not been a lot of research on this disease, but much of what is known about
SLE is based on the signaling of the molecular abnormalities that is present in the disease (Signaling).
It is believed that the cause of this disease is genetic, and triggered by unknown environmental
stimulus. Although this disorder can occur in person, it is most commonly found among both African
American men and women, especially women between the ages of fifteen and forty five.
SLE usually targets the heart (coronary vasculitis), lungs (pleuritis), ... Show more content on

The most useful tests detect certain blood antibodies that are commonly found in lupus patients. One
test that has been found extremely useful in detecting lupus is the antinuclear antibody test (ANA).
This test is good because people with lupus often test positive for ANA. Although there are other
diseases out there that test positive for ANA, this test helps in narrowing it down to the least amount
of possibilities as possible. Once the ANA test is positive, there are several blood tests that need to be
completed in order to test for individual types of autoantibodies that are commonly found in people
with lupus. These tests are not used for every SLE cases, but it is helpful when the doctors are
uncertain of the cause of the patient s symptoms. Other lab tests are used to monitor the progress of
the disease once it has been diagnosed

Ambiguity In A Clean Well Lighted Place
A Solace for the Lonely On stressful evenings people often find themselves walking in circles hunting
for an escape; as seen in Ernest Hemingway s, A Clean, Well Lighted Place , which exemplifies the
life of an old man and two waiters. The old man is doing exactly what most people do when they have
reached rock bottom. He is hunting for peace in his life and has decided to find such solace drinking in
a local café. The little café in the short story symbolizes a safe zone for people who feel unwanted,
alone, and in despair. Hemingway uses the younger waiter as a foil for the older waiter to emphasize
the opposing personalities and beliefs of the waiters. The ambiguity in the dialog between the two
waiters evolved into a scandal relating to reproductions of the short story. The café is the only solace
for the older waiter and all those who need a light for the night (Page 145). They yearn for a place to
feel wanted and not be alone. The younger waiter does not understand the need for a clean and
pleasant café, so he tells the old man, Hombre, there are bodegas open all night long (145). As the
older waiter would agree, bars have a different ambiance than cafés. Cafés are nice, quiet, and quaint
establishments where one can relax and forget their troubles. The older waiter states, It is necessary
that the place be clean and pleasant. You do not want music. Certainly you do not want music (146).
Bars usually provide music for their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The two waiters exemplify the two ends of the spectrum of people. The oldest is the lonely and the
younger is the happily married. This short story makes the differences of bars to cafés and the lonely

can find solace in the clean well lighted

Analyze the Ways in Which Techonology, Government Policy,...
In the period 1865 1900, technology, government policy, and economic conditions all changed
American agriculture a great deal. New farming machinery had a large role in the late 19th century,
giving farmers the opportunity to produce many more crops than they had ever been able to
previously. The railroads had an enormous influence on agriculture. They were able to charge the
farmers large fees, expenses that farmers barely had enough to cover, in order to transport their goods
throughout the expansive country. The booming industry also changed American agriculture, creating
monopolies and gaining incredible wealth with which the farmers simply could not compete.
Economically, the monetary policy along with the steadily dropping prices of ... Show more content

Document C shows how the farmers eventually got prices to lower in Illinois, although not all states
were as successful in putting restrictions or limits on the prices. The Supreme Court used the 14th
amendment to favor the large industries and monopolies, like the railroad. In most cases it was ruled
that profits (even excess ones) are a property right and states cannot regulate these profits because it
goes against due process and equal protection under the law. These rulings made it very hard for
individual states to interfere and put any limitations on these high prices. One of the most heated
debates of the time period was over the gold standard monetary policy. In Document E the crop lien
system or sharecropping is demonstrated. It shows how the farmers are profiting little or no money at
all by the 1880 s, however the government, along with the wealthier citizens, were trying to
implement a gold standard, eliminating silver currency altogether and creating some deflation. The
farmers, most of whom were already in debt, advocated strongly against this monetary policy. They
were in favor of a bimetallistic system. The Farmer s were already indebted to the people they leased
their land from, and if there was a monetary policy, the amount of money they owed would remain the
same, however the value of that money would increase. Document J is a clear opposition to the
monetary policy by the farmers. Through the fight

  • 2. Asylum Seekers In Australia Essay Asylum seekers are people who have left their home country to find asylum in another country as a political refugee. Now in Australia, asylum seekers are being forced to detention centres by the Australian government. Citizens of the Australian community are deciding whether asylum seekers should be allowed to become residents in Australia. Asylum seekers should be given asylum in Australia because they have not committed any crimes and Australia takes a minimum number of asylum seekers in a year compared to other underdeveloped countries. Furthermore, asylum seekers have greatly contributed to the Australian society. The Australian government had signed The Refugee convention but are now not following the fundamental articles in the convention. The Refugee convention is a series of articles that state how to treat and help refugees and asylum seekers. Article 31 of the Refugee convention clearly states that refugees should not be penalised for arriving without valid travel documents and how they arrive at the country i.e by boat. If the person is seeking asylum, the action is not considered illegal. Asylum seekers may not be able to obtain the travel documents because they do not have the identification needed and they might not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. Correlations Cause Crime Hayley Taylor Psychology 100 January 25, 2017 Correlation vs Causation A positive correlation means as one variable increases, the other increases. Correspondingly, as one variable decreases, the other decreases. In this case, vitamins cause crime, is stating that as more people intake vitamins, the rate of crime is increasing. Although this may be true, it still does not prove that consuming more vitamins causes crime to rise. Correlation does not prove causation. The article title, vitamins cause crime, is more accurately a correlation versus causation fallacy. This fallacy is where a correlation can be assumed that the dependent variable (measures effect) changes mainly because the independent variable (variable manipulated) changed. A correlation does exist, however, interpreting the casual association was wrong. Although ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To do this, a researcher would divide the participants into four groups: a maximum number of vitamins, minimum number of vitamins, a placebo, and no vitamins. During this experiment, the researcher would have to keep track and record how many people get charged for a crime during this experimental process. The independent variable would be the amount of vitamins distributed to each participant. There would also be a control group present and another group that is given a placebo to avoid the placebo effect. For the other two groups that are given, the maximum and minimum amount of vitamins, the researcher should see if there is a difference between the amount of vitamins given. The dependent variable would be how many of the participants are charged for a crime. The key part of making this a true double blind study is having the researcher tell the participants that this experiment to test for a different variable. Leaving the part out about it testing for crime rates will keep things unbiased and have accurate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Noonan Syndrome Research Paper Overview Noonan syndrome is a disorder caused by a genetic mutation that causes various parts of the patient s body to develop abnormally. The condition occurs when a parent passes on an affected gene to their child that produces constantly active proteins, leading to a disruption in the process of normal cell division and growth. Science currently knows of eight genes in which a mutation can cause the disorder. In some cases, there is no family history and the mutation is spontaneous. Symptoms One of the main indications of Noonan syndrome is the abnormal development of the person s face, which varies at different ages. Newborn babies generally have low set ears, slanting or wide set eyes, and a short neck, among other features. Infants ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Food Loss And Its Effects On Food Production Introduction In an age of plenty, there continues to be considerable and intolerable inefficiencies that generate extreme consequences in this world. Food loss is a pure example of this. Food loss represents the edible amount of food that is available for human consumption but is not consumed for any reason, which is discarded towards the front of the food supply chain, including harvest, post harvest, and processing (Lipinski 2013). The production of the food in the United States is inefficient because of its inability to create and process food without generating excessive amounts of waste. In the United States alone, about 40 percent of its food is wasted daily much of it due to ineffectual food production processes. In and of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Of these foods, fresh produce naturally has the greatest production losses due to its perishable nature (Gunders 7). Farmers grow their crops in accordance with demand, although it is exceedingly difficult to gauge that specific match. It is important, however, to separate the category of farming into two distinct measures, as they differ in how food loss is analyzed: unharvested food and lost food between production and consumption. Farmers, whether it is through a small family owned farm or a highly industrialized factory farm, are required to provide very dependable volumes that not only meet the quantity expectations of buyers, but the quality specifications that become extremely inspected. To provide insurance for themselves at the risk of losing crops due to unforeseen circumstances, like bad weather, pests, blemishes, or other imperfections, farmers will naturally grow more than they are expected to sell, as they have little to no choice in worrying about customers (NRDC 2012). This predication is based on the prerogatives that each of these farmers choose to go through they would much rather see their produce go to waste than the potential of losing profit, which leads to great food loss. This is a classic example of production exceeding demand. The economic realities for farmers are too significant to ignore. Market prices also hold significant reign on whether or not farmers ... • 7. 7 Minutes Of Terror Essay Sometimes when we look at it, it looks crazy, said Adam Steltzner. Adam is an engineer who works for NASA, a part of the United States government that explores space. Adam was talking about landing something on Mars. It is the result of reasoned engineering thought. But it still looks crazy. Adam and some of the people he works with made a video called Seven Minutes of Terror about a Mars landing. In the video, they introduced people around the world to one of the most daring and creative achievements of engineering ever completed. That achievement was the pinpoint landing of Curiosity on Mars. Curiosity is a machine called a rover, and it was built to explore the surface of Mars. The seven minutes described in Adam s video refer to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead, engineers came up with a maneuver that would allow the craft carrying Curiosity to turn quickly. Then, rockets would turn on and allow Curiosity to make a vertical landing. Switching from a parachute to a controlled rocket descent could have gone wrong at any time. Still, even getting the descent right was not enough to succeed. Once the parachute was cut free, the force from the rockets could raise so much dust that the dust itself could damage the rover. Always thinking ahead, the engineers came up with a solution. They created a device to complete the last step of the landing. The device was called a sky crane. When the sky crane was close to Mars s surface, it used a set of cables to lower Curiosity onto the ground. At last Curiosity landed, going from 13,000 miles per hour to zero in just seven minutes. The capsule that had been carrying Curiosity still had all its rockets firing. It blasted back into the sky and landed somewhere else on the planet. The landing was a success. The Ongoing Mission NASA says that the MSL mission is part of a long term plan. This plan uses robots to explore Mars. The most popular question is whether there ever was life on Mars. This can be done in three different approaches such as counts, case series, and cross sectional studies. The observation of the Amish population in Lancaster, PA favors the application of the cross sectional method of descriptive epidemiology. It is a special population where their perspectives on health is shaped by their religious beliefs and cultures. The Amish settled in four counties in Pennsylvania with an estimate of 44, 106 people were approximately 35,000 reside in Lancaster county. This Act allows employees of large companies to acquire health insurance and allows insurance options for low income individuals and families. • 9. Reducing The Primary Cesarean Section Rate Reducing the Primary Cesarean Section Rate in Nulliparous Women: A Quality Improvement Project Julie A. Javernick, CNM, MSN Submitted to Drs. Joan Nelson and Kathy Shaw of the University of Colorado College of Nursing in partial fulfillment of the requirements for NUDO 7018 Introduction Background Healthy childbirth is defined as a safe, natural process that rarely requires medical intervention (Goer Romano, 2012). The medical model of care, however, often includes interventions that are not supported by the evidence and can increase a woman s risk of having a cesarean section. These intrusions into labor and birth often lead to what has been called the cascade of interventions (DeClercq, Sakala, Corry, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services are also requiring participating hospitals with more than 1,100 births a year to report their primary cesarean section rates. Local Problem Lutheran Medical Center (LMC), one of eight hospitals in the Sister s of Charity of Leavenworth Health System, had the second highest cesarean section rate in the system in 2014 (SCL Health, 2015). Westside Women s Care (WWC), a privately owned obstetrics practice, employs 14 providers who attend approximately 65% of the births at LMC. WWC s primary cesarean section rate from March 2014 to March 2015 was 34.8%, the highest of all LMC provider groups. The primary cesarean section rate in Colorado in 2012 was 17.4% and the Healthy People 2020 goal for primary cesarean section is 23.9% (Osterman Martin, 2014; U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 2015). To help decrease the primary cesarean section rate at WWC and subsequently LMC, a quality improvement project (QIP) team was formed composed of providers from WWC and administrators and nurses at LMC. A root cause analysis was conducted and Fishbone diagram were developed (See Appendix A). Several themes emerged as contributing to the high cesarean section rate. These included: 1) ... Mottley, 211 U.S. 149 (1908) Parties: Louisville and Nashville Railroad Company, Petitioner E.L Mottley and Annie E. Mottley, Defendants Facts: E.L. Mottley and his wife, Annie E. Mottley, (plaintiffs) were passengers on board a train operated by the Louisville and Nashville Railroad Company (defendants). Both the plaintiffs and the defendant are citizens of the state of Kentucky. The plaintiffs, while passengers on board a train, were injured in a train wreck on September 7, 1871. The defendants offered the injured plaintiffs a free pass from the defendant s railroad company in exchange for the agreement that they would not bring suit upon the defendant. The plaintiffs accepted the free passes which would be renewed yearly. Several decades later, in 1906, a law was passed by the U.S. Congress banning free railroad passes. This was passed in order to prevent bribery on government workers and officials. This caused the defendant to refuse the plaintiffs renewal of their free passes in which they then filed suit for specific performance in the Circuit Court for the Western District of Kentucky. ... • 13. The Characteristics Of Classism In The Classical Period The Classical period, sometimes called the Hellenic period, began in the 5th and 4th centuries BC. During the Classical period, Greece succeeded its maximum level of success both culturally and economically. The ancient Greeks strode to perfect both the body and mind. Classism has caused a significant amount of changes in the art world which allowed them to express themselves through their art spiritually. Classism s qualities still are featured throughout the artworks that are being made today. Some of this movement s features would include how most of the sculptures that are done are idealized. Idealism is when someone is painted, or sculpted with the ideal body and face. Realism is another feature in Classical Art. Realism is seeking truth through the artwork, they could no longer achieve the look they were going for by just chiseling away at a block of stone. Therefore, they based they techniques on modelling, by building first out of clay on new models and then they would copy them into stone. One of the last main features in this movement would be how mathematically correct everything is. Artists in these eras were very conscious about correct proportions, measurements, and symmetry. That is how those artists made it possible to create such perfect and idealized masterpieces. A sculptural example of Classical Art is The Spear Bearer . This entailed careful observation of a model as well as understanding of the mechanics of anatomy of how a body shifts from a pose, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. The New Arts Education Plan With the upcoming addition of our middle school we will be developing a sixth, seventh, and eighth grade arts program consistent with the frameworks of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme. The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme requires visual and performing arts for all students and demands much more of students and teachers than our more traditional elementary arts program. We hope to provide an arts rich school community to all our students. The new arts education plan would continue our focus on developing knowledge about art forms in various contexts, developing the language of art, and learning how to respond to and evaluate art. Within this new arts education plan we also hope to offer a more diverse range of art materials to our students such as ceramics, sculpture, pottery, weaving, metalworking, and stained glass. These new materials would allow our students opportunities to create higher level art, be exposed to portions of art history that are often forgotten, and work in new ways that were once limited by only creating 2D art. We hope to create this new arts education plan for our new middle school while maintaining a strong elementary arts education program. Drama, music, and visual arts are important parts of our students week. These courses allow our students to learn life skills such as respect, communication, perseverance, problem solving, accountability, and collaboration, while reinforcing and integrating critical ... Sometimes there are virtual study hall days on the ends of marking periods or progress checks though, and those let students work on past assignments without having to work on new lessons. But if there was a virtual study hall day at the end of every marking period/progress check, it would make things a lot easier for the students. Students would only have to work on past assignments and would also want to work harder so they can have the day off. Who knows, maybe they would even want to work ahead on lessons, too. Finally, students would be able to complete all their work on time. It would allow students with lessons that have piled up over time to be able to get them done. It would also mean less assignments due. In the end it,would probably just amount to more students getting assignments finished before the due date. Because of this study hall days would most likely help lots of students. On the other hand, teachers have to post a certain amount of lessons each year. In order to combat this problem, the school would just subtract off certain days from breaks. Or maybe they would have a few more days of school before summer break. Also,it could just mean having more lessons posted on other days. • 19. The Success Of A Circle Time Successful Circle Time Circle time is one of the most fun and creative times of the school day. Preschool children, typically ages three to around six, are very hands one and mobile. They want to move about and explore things around them. For any teacher struggling with circle time and keeping the attention of their students I would suggest multiple tips on how to keep students engaged. One is to make circle time interactive and get the students involved in the circle time. An example would be giving each student a part in a song or a story to act out. Another suggestion would be to start each circle time with a song and dance so that students can release some of the energy that they have and be ready to focus during circle time. It is also a great idea to have students move around during circle time so they are not getting restless and moving in anyway they want (). Two very key things for circle time to be a success is to be consistent with circle time and have it daily so that students know what to expect. I have observed activities like reviewing the calendar, weather, and reading a short book. Finally, one must be aware and patient of the disturbances that will pop up during circle time. Know that students are all developing in different ways and not one is like the other. While one student may sit attentively for a prolonged period of time, another may not be at that point yet. • 20. Birth Control Importance The Importance of Teenage Access to Contraceptives About 77% of all teenage pregnancies are accidental, and of those, 30% end in abortion, the solution preventing the unwanted pregnancies at hand is the guaranteed access to over the counter birth control. Girls avoid contraceptives for many reasons, whether it be prohibiting parents, lack of education, or monetary issues concerning health care. These limitations cumulatively lead to teenage pregnancies, which amount to far greater sacrifice and consequence than the simple ability for a teenage girl to walk into a pharmacy and purchase a pill, or patch of her choice which could prevent a child being brought into this world to unwilling, and incompetent parents. Access to over the counter birth control could solve these problems, and ultimately limit the amount of teenage pregnancies in America. Many parents do not allow their children to take birth control. Not only did politicians change their allegiances, but moderate reformers were radicalised, and British society was completely divided into supporters and detractors of the Revolution. It also resulted in a drastic politicisation of Ireland, changing the nature of politics completely. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The ideological issues raised by the French Revolution served as a catalyst for British domestic politics subsequently leading to the development of a Tory Party in Britain as those who followed Burke followed him to William Pitt the Younger who established the first Tory government. Pitt s initial lacklustre reaction to the Revolution had changed rapidly with the growth of radicalism in Britain, especially after Thomas Paine published his Rights of Man in 1791, condemning it as a monstrous doctrine . This new Tory government that had been established was much less tolerant of reformers in a time where radical reformers were far more common and were feeding off the energy of the French Revolution. In the 1770s, a movement for parliamentary reform began in Britain under the leadership of middle class men such as John Cartwright and Christopher Wyvill. When the Revolution in France began in 1789 this movement began to grow rapidly, and an atmosphere of revolutionary fervour spread across Britain, inspiring reformers. In many ways the French Revolution acted as a template of reform to radicals and reformers across Britain and Europe. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To start, I explored the relationship that existed between distance and speed. The speeds of the top three male and female athletes at each distance have been plotted. For both men and women, there is an inverse exponential relationship between the speed of the athlete and the event distance. This trend shows a logical relationship because as the distance of a race increases, the athletes are going to be slower because running for a longer amount of time requires energy to be conserved. In order to develop an equation which represents this relationship, I am going to graph the speed of each athlete against the log of their distance. Because this is an exponential relationship, the log of x is proportional to speed. This means that when log of distance is plotted along the x axis, a linear trend will be produced. Once these points are plotted, I will calculate a regression line using linear regression. Once this equation is found, log x can be substituted into the equation for the value of x, this new equation would be the regression line for the correlation between speed and ... In Emily Bronte s novel Wuthering Heights, the author embodied the realities of England s class system during the Victorian Era. During this Era, people were born into a class and stayed there. This was essentially captured by the idea that social mobility was rare and limited. Bronte uses characters such as Catherine, Heathcliff and Edgar as well as the second generation as a tool to emphasize the differences in class, and how it ultimately impacted the fate of the characters.Through the use of symbolism and juxtaposition, Bronte exemplifies that the potency of love and relationships cannot outweigh the necessity social status. • 41. The Federal Emergency Management Agency The Rise and Fall of Legitimacy: A Review of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) from 1979 to 2005 Introduction Legitimacy is the lifeblood of an organization. With conflict and competition a clear winner is considered legitimate. Cooperation, however, offers the potential for legitimacy for multiple parties. A legitimate organization has authority based on being representative, accountable, responsible, effectiveness, efficiency, minimal interference from political pressure, and established rules. Rules provide a rational foundation for procedures and operations. Administrative decisions grounded in established rules are the basis of a legal rational authority and ensure that decisions are not biased or influenced. Weber (1922) and Stillman (1998) identify the application of established, impersonal rules and procedures as an important characteristic of an organization and crucial to a legitimate authority. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has seen a rise and fall regarding its view of legitimacy between the years of 1979 and 2005. FEMA carried a reputation for a lack of legitimacy for nearly two decades. Strong leadership and a new approach led to an increased respect and view of legitimacy by the public. However, this was short lived. This paper will discuss the significant contributing factor leading to FEMA s return to a lack of legitimacy in the response to Hurricane Katrina. While these findings seem promising, there is no way to say that the differences in dual task and task switching performances were caused by video game play. Therefore, the investigators decided to perform another experiment. The purpose of the experiment was to see if action video games are responsible for the difference in performance on these tests. The researchers picked two video games for the experiment: Medal of Honor and Tetris. Medal of Honor is an action video game and Tetris is a puzzle game. It was hypothesized that playing Medal of Honor would create improvements in the dual task and task switching tests while Tetris would not create an improvement. This can be directly applied to business organizations through analysis of the three strongest and/or weakest links: managers, leaders and the organizational structure. These three areas provide the central core to any organization and are often linked to dramatic failures and consequences when weaknesses arise. Managers and Leaders While it is difficult to offer a specific definition of a manager and leader, the type of control used to manage/persuade employees can offer a clear distinction. A manager often uses a bureaucratic, authoritative style, and a leader most often relies on charisma and influence to achieve goals. Neither style is better than the other; however, one may achieve greater results dependent upon the situation. According to Yuki, within the management atmosphere, many decision processes are disorderly and political (2006, p. 26). In the case with Tyco, many actions completed by the accounting department were highly political, being based upon information directly from the CEO. Ambiguity In A Clean Well Lighted Place A Solace for the Lonely On stressful evenings people often find themselves walking in circles hunting for an escape; as seen in Ernest Hemingway s, A Clean, Well Lighted Place , which exemplifies the life of an old man and two waiters. The old man is doing exactly what most people do when they have reached rock bottom. He is hunting for peace in his life and has decided to find such solace drinking in a local café. The little café in the short story symbolizes a safe zone for people who feel unwanted, alone, and in despair. Hemingway uses the younger waiter as a foil for the older waiter to emphasize the opposing personalities and beliefs of the waiters. The ambiguity in the dialog between the two waiters evolved into a scandal relating to reproductions of the short story. The café is the only solace for the older waiter and all those who need a light for the night (Page 145). They yearn for a place to feel wanted and not be alone. The younger waiter does not understand the need for a clean and pleasant café, so he tells the old man, Hombre, there are bodegas open all night long (145). As the older waiter would agree, bars have a different ambiance than cafés. Cafés are nice, quiet, and quaint establishments where one can relax and forget their troubles. New farming machinery had a large role in the late 19th century, giving farmers the opportunity to produce many more crops than they had ever been able to previously. The railroads had an enormous influence on agriculture. They were able to charge the farmers large fees, expenses that farmers barely had enough to cover, in order to transport their goods throughout the expansive country. Document C shows how the farmers eventually got prices to lower in Illinois, although not all states were as successful in putting restrictions or limits on the prices. The Supreme Court used the 14th amendment to favor the large industries and monopolies, like the railroad. In most cases it was ruled that profits (even excess ones) are a property right and states cannot regulate these profits because it goes against due process and equal protection under the law. These rulings made it very hard for individual states to interfere and put any limitations on these high prices. One of the most heated debates of the time period was over the gold standard monetary policy. In Document E the crop lien system or sharecropping is demonstrated. It shows how the farmers are profiting little or no money at all by the 1880 s, however the government, along with the wealthier citizens, were trying to implement a gold standard, eliminating silver currency altogether and creating some deflation. The farmers, most of whom were already in debt, advocated strongly against this monetary policy. They were in favor of a bimetallistic system.
