America has dealt with many situations the wrong way, for example, the encounter with the Native
Americans. What has America done wrong in regards to terrorism and terror suspects, and how can we
as a country change it for the better and still be aggressive in keeping terror out of our country? The
Geneva Convention rules were put into place to protect prisoners of war, soldiers, and civilians. It

Violence And Its Effect On Society
Introduction The presence of violence is all around us; embedded in our everyday lives. Such acts may
be masked and subtle; while others are exposed and evident. One thing, however, is certain, a single
act of violence creates a rippling effect of repercussions. The use of violence can often leave much
longer lasting residues of violence which return again in the future (Brand Jacobsen, 2005, p. 12). This
cycle of malice and destruction must end. Thus, where does one begin to initiate change? Awareness is
key in the stand against violence. For I cannot solve the problem if I am incognizant of it preying in
plain sight. Moreover, claims of ignorance and partial justification are not acceptable excuses to
dismiss or ignore the veracity of violence among us. I believe just as violence can propagate from one
act, so can acts of peace. Reflection I am guilty of turning a blind eye in the face of violence
(structural and cultural). I have walked away and dismissed it in my mind because to acknowledge it
makes it real. And once it becomes real, I have to do something about it. By nature, I am a very
anxious person. As such, I am uncomfortable with uncharted waters and conflict. I do not instigate or
involve myself in conflict to keep my stress level at a minimum. Therefore, I adamantly avoid
