Immigration Has Shaped America,But Now It S Becoming Harder
Immigration has shaped America, but now it s becoming harder and harder to enter this country.
With the growing threat that immigration is bad and that illegal immigrants are stealing American
jobs, many people believe the laws need to be even more strict. With Donald Trump recently
elected that may become a reality. Trump has said I will build a great wall and also anyone who is
in the United StatesIllegally is subject to deportation (Brandner). While it is important that Illegal
immigrants be dealt with not all of them are bad. Immigration has shaped the United States before
and will continue to help The United States as long as people want to live here. Immigration has

DACA is a program that allows young people from other countries to come live in the U.S with
no risk of being deported. This program has helped roughly 665,000 people live in the U.S
(Wolgin). Although it has become harder to live in the U.S many people still try and enter
because they know America gives them an opportunity that no other country does. This is what
continues to make America great. While a constant flow of people coming to America seems
like a great idea to most, President elect Trump thinks the U.S need to limit the people it let in.
During his campaign he said he would repeal DACA and kick out all illegal immigrants. His
thought process behind this is that it will free up jobs for Americans. Trump is right that it will
free up jobs as roughly 8 million illegal immigrants currently have jobs , but the issue is that
Americans won t have the proper training to take all of these jobs (Krogstad). This will lead to
companies not producing what they should and being forced to lay off people. So overall by
kicking out all immigrants Trump will be costing many Americans jobs and could lead to
another depression. Another thing that Trump has said he will do is build a wall around the
U.S and Mexico. This wall will cost millions, maybe even billions of dollars, yet Trump has not
elaborated on how it will be paid for. He has said he will get Mexico to pay for it and that he has a
plan to do it, but nobody knows what that is. This

Career Profile Of The Transition From School
I. INTRODUCTION
The transition from school to work can be challenging for students. It is our job to help you
identify your goal, acquire job searching skills and get prepare for the outside world. Janice Tester
(Career advisor, McGill University) Janice Tester has been working as a Career Advisor for
McGill Career planning Service Office (CaPS) for over 17 years. In 2014, I started to serve as a
peer educator in CaPS office and Janice became my supervisor since then. Despite the fact that we
worked closely together in the past two years, I never get a chance to know her accomplishments
in the job and how she perceive her work. This became my initial motivation to interview her.
Another reason is that, given the importance of career advising service in McGill, its performance
is difficult to evaluate. A throughout analysis on this position can be helpful for its performance
improvement. Several expectations for this position were developed during my working in CaPS.
Firstly, I expected career advisors to be business orientated, with backgrounds in human resource
management. Secondly, since their works involve mostly one on one consulting with students,
interactions with colleagues are limited and unnecessary. Thirdly, I expected that, career advisors
enjoy a high level of initiative. Instead of taking commands directly from their supervisor, they have

Critical Thinking Paper: I assumed that I was looking for a house and I found three equally
wonderful houses in three cities that are located in different states of America. The first one was
the city of Cambridge located in the state of Massachusetts because you can easily live without a

choosing a house that is near my work place so that I can walk or bike easily. The second one was

UCR helped me to find out more about the crimes reported in this area by the UCR so that I can
determine the different levels of security before choosing the best city to live in. For the city of
Cambridge that is located in the state of Massachusetts, I found out that it had the least rate of
part 1 crimes overall with 2692.2 part 1 crimes per 100000 people compared to both the city of
Miami that is located in the state of Florida and the city of New Haven which is located in the
state of Connecticut while the city of Miami that is located in the state of Florida had the most crime
rate of 5908.4 part 1 crimes per 100000 people. It is more than a half (UCR, 2015:1).
Considering the violent crimes rate Miami that is located in the state of Florida still has the
most rates of 1059.9 per 100000 people compared to 278.1 rates per 100000 people in the city of
Cambridge that is located in the state of Massachusetts, which has the least rate of violent
crimes(UCR, 2015:1). I believe that the best place for me to live in is in the city of Cambridge
in the state of Massachusetts. I made this decision basing myself more on the overall rate of
violent crime because I am more scared of the violent crimes since this is the type of crime that
can harm me. I looked at property crimes too but I was not so concerned because I can survive and

The Rigoberta Menchu Controversy
The Rigoberta MenchГє Controversy
I, Rigoberta MenchГє at first seems like an autobiography, but that is not what it is meant to be.
MenchГє wrote the book as a testimony of her people s lives to be a voice for her people and show
the world what is going on. There was a lot of controversy about whether Rigoberta deserved the
Nobel Peace Prize, and if this book should be taught to students. There are allegations that she
fabricated a lot of the story. People say that the book is not an accurate portrayal of her life.
Considering that MenchГє said, I d like to stress that it s not only my life, it s also the testimony of
my people , the reader should know that this book was not meant to be an autobiography. MenchГє

In the course of his research Stoll never interviewed MenchГє herself. Stoll begins the preface of
his book by asserting that there is no doubt about the most important points MenchГє makes (viii).
Moreover, despite press reports about requests to the Nobel Prize Committee to rescind the Peace
Prize after the Times article, in his book Stoll states that he believes awarding the Nobel Prize to
Rigoberta MenchГє was a good idea and that she has been the first to acknowledge that she
received it, not for her own accomplishments but because she stands for a wider group of people
who deserve international support. (ix) The prize was awarded to MenchГє not for her testimony
but for her later political work and peace organizing.Specifically, Stoll s research leads him to
confirm the following information in MenchГє s testimony. In her testimony Rigoberta states that
her father was burned alive when the army attacked the Spanish Embassy he was occupying to
protest human rights abuses, an occurrence that is widely known in Guatemala. Stoll believes
MenchГє s account of the events at the embassy is more balanced than most others. Rigoberta also
stated that her mother was detained, raped, tortured, killed, and her body was mutilated by the
Guatemalan army. Rigoberta MenchГє s horrific description of what happened to her

The Dark Night Of The Soul And Heath Ledger
Various individuals seek answers through literate arts. While books can t always give us answers
about how to live our lives or how society works, we can still learn a lot. The truth of the matter is
that nobody can determine your future, but yourself. The literate arts can teach individuals different
skills or knowledgeabout society, but what you retain from the books will drastically affect your
point of view and actions. Through Millers essay, The Dark Night of the Soul and Heath Ledger,
well known for his role as the joker in the movie, Dark knight, is a good representation of how the
literate arts can be perceived in many different ways. Literate arts can open your mindto many

He couldn t separate his work and home life. His message to the viewers is that being a
supervillain is bad, while he does it himself. This led him to overdosing on drugs and later on
killing himself through his disruptive behavior. How are the literate arts positive? The literate arts
are our source to gaining different information on society. Through many scenarios in life, we learn
different things about ourselves. Heath s death was all his fault and not the literate arts because the
joker was living within him. The joker was born in Heath, when his parents split, and the movie
allowed him to express all his emotions though the psychopathic joker.
In Millers essay, he provides a scenario where one s past experience could have impacted one s
life. For example, in the Liar s Club, Mary Karr tries to make sense of her family s past. Her
curiosity drove her to find more information about her family and with that she found that her
father participated in the war. She discovered that he was wounded twice, one time stuck with a
bayonet through his forearm, leaving a scar (454). Without knowing her father s past, Mary would
have never known the experiences her father went through. This led to her father, Pete to be more
violent towards his family, which led to a ...memoir allows one to plunge into the darkness of the

Relation Between Stock Returns And Economic Growth
Many investors when making a decision regarding investing in a other country take into account
certain factors which may play a very important role or may affect their future returns. Standard
economics theory suggests that over the long run, profits or returns should rise in line with the
economy/ economic growth, which is also the view point of many investors when making a
decision.
Although the long run research and studies conducted by different economists gives a very
different picture of the relationship between stock returns and economic growth, but very little
empirical evidences to support the view with. Many economists and researchers supported the view

Jay.R Ritter in his research said that the main reason for a negative correlation between the two
factors, according to him during high growth rate periods markets usually assign a high price
/Earning and price to dividend multiples and which then lowers the realized returns because now
more capital is required from the investors to in order to receive the same level of earning s and
dividends from stocks.
From all these studies and empirical evidence it can be concluded that stock returns and economic
growth are not related but have a negative correlation.
Ho= no correlation between economic growth and stock return.
H1= there is a relation between economic growth and stock returns
On the other hand the results for interest rates give the same type of results. The basic classical
economics model suggests that there is a relationship between interest rates and economic growth.
Usually reduction in the interest rates cause the level of growth to increase, this is because a
reduction in interest rates makes borrowing more cheaper and encourages in investment in the
economy, which eventually increases the growth rate. However, an increase in interest rates has an
opposite effect on economic growth. According to (Suntum, 2008) high interest rated discourage
investment as it s more tempting to rather save the money and earn a decent interest rate, thus
making the aggregate demand to fall which then badly affects the economic growth of

The Battle Of San Juan Hill
MISSION COMMAND PAPER: THE BATTLE OF SAN JUAN HILL
The Battle of San Juan Hill took place in the hills surrounding Santiago, Cuba on July 1, 1898. It
was a battle between the Spanish forces commanded by General Arsenio Linares and the United
States Army V Corps commanded by MG William Schafter. Although the United States won the
battle, MG Shafter did not properly exercise all of the principles of mission command prior to and
during the battle. MG Shafter failed to provide a clear commander s intent and exercise prudent
risk, but several of his subordinate leaders developed cohesive teams through mutual trust and
exercised disciplined initiative to win the Battle of San Juan Hill.

MG Shafter and MG Lawton believed that El Caney could be taken quickly, thus planned for the
2nd Division to take El Caney and then line up to the right of the Cavalry Division during the San
Juan Hill assault. The assault on El Caney took longer than expected, and the 2nd Division lost
about 960 of its total 6,600 men to injury or death. Therefore, MG Lawton s 2nd Division was not
able to support the assault on San Juan Hill. , ,
On the morning of July 1st, the Cavalry and 2nd Divisions marched to San Juan Hill along the
Camino Real Rd in two columns. MG Sumner commanded the Cavalry Division, due to MG
Wheeler being sick. MG Shafter was also incapacitated during the battle; therefore, his aides
traveled back and forth from El Pozo to the line of forces to give orders, creating confusion and
stalling the onset of the battle. Together, the force consisted of about 8,400 troops, which split
when the road met the San Juan River. The Cavalry Division moved to the east side of the river
and the 1st Division to the west of the river. The juncture point, known as the bloody ford, was a
target for Spanish mauser fire that caused many American casualties. All units were in position to
attack by 1200, but were waiting for MG Lawton to finish the attack on El Caney and for orders
from MG Shafter to attack. The howitzer battery began firing from the bloody ford area around

Slide 3: The distribution of authority and decision making differs between the opera and the
symphony. The opera, as an adhocracy, is headed by Ms. Ewers, who reports to the Board of
Trustees. Ms. Ewers makes most of the financial and fund raising decisions, as evidenced by her
ability to increase the Opera s annual budget from $1.5 million to $5 million. Subordinates have
some decision making authority within their respective roles. For instance, below Ms. Ewers is the
Director of Operations, who is responsible for overseeing and leading numerous department
directors. These department directors are in charge of the smaller units and have some decision
making power and authority. Ms. Ewers designated such duties as the technical and artistic facets of
opera production, music administration, and community education to these subordinate groups.
This is Adhocracy culture is what differentiates the opera organization. An adhocracy culture
allows employees to be empowered with some authority and decision making. The hierarchy of
power eventually leads back to Ms. Ewers and the Board of Trustees; however, the department
directors are the ones who are primarily responsible for their department. For example if a manager
wants to incorporate a certain prop in a performance, that decision is his/hers to make. A side note
worth mentioning is that after the department directors, there are several departments that have
managers who will also be

Superiority Complex In The Penelopiad
The Superiority Complex of Atwood s Penelope Unlike many versions of Helen of Troy, in The
Penelopiad Margaret Atwood paints the infamous woman as a siren, a goddess, and a murderer.
By making the reader see Helen s imperfections through Penelope s eyes, new layers are added to
this character so often explored in literature. Helen and Penelopes dynamic relationship adds a layer
to not only The Penelopiad, but also to the male dominated Odyssey. These factors create a
dynamic feminine force that informs both characters: without each other, they would not be as
interesting as they are. Many of Penelope s insecurities come from her own self reflection, self
image, and experiences. At the very beginning of the novel she says,... Show more content on

for Penelope, making her feelings for Helen range from admiration to loathing. Penelope
simultaneously wants to be Helen and could not imagine ever being her, creating a tension that

opposite mentalities on how to present themselves. Even though Penelope became the image of

that impressiveness; not surprisingly, such characteristics as being impeccably and smartly dressed,
dashing appearance, mental and physical quickness, aggressiveness, and vigor reference the default
upper class, maleness, whiteness, and heteronormativity of ideal investment bankers (Ho 167).
This idea of smartness being linked with the position of an upper class man, was a universal want,
especially of those who were not of the upper class before. By creating this sense of superiority in
a financial hierarchy, the investment bankers were able to reach the ego of the naГЇve

to pursue a field in banking. This way of marketing is very similar to the marketing campaign in

Ruby And Sapphire Character Analysis
Indeed, it can be argued that, since Ruby and Sapphire are in a romantic relationship, there is no
need to include other and different types of LGBT couples. Pearl is in love with Rose but is
ultimately rejected as her romantic interest is assimilated into the heteronormative, leaving her
bitter and resentful. Therefore, if, on one hand, the otherness of Rose as an alien is assimilated
and normalized as she enters the heteronormative by beginning a relationship with the human
male character Greg, Pearl s deviousness as not only alien but also homosexual character
condemns her to remain unhappy and alone. Still bound to her idealized vision of Rose and
unable to overcome her issues, Pearl develops a crush for a human that looks just like her lost

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Organ...
Introduction
Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub described transplantation as one of the great success stories of the
latter half of the 20th century (Transplants save lives). Organ transplantation is used in medicine
in order to save people lives, but not all people support this action. As a result, it is a question
that has caused a great deal of controversy. I choose this global issue because of several reasons.
Firstly, it is very interesting topic and very controversial. Secondly, it will be useful information

Organ transplantation is a very expensive procedure. In order to be placed on the waiting list for
organs, people need to spend a lot of money. It is not uncommon for the cost of the transplant
surgery and following hospitalization to result in a bill that exceeds $500,000 (Jennifer Heisler).
Patient should pay approximately tens of thousands millions just only to take placed in the
waiting list of people, who need organ transplantation. In addition, people should buy different
drugs after operations and it is also costs a big amount of money and not all people can afford it.
Unfortunately, the expenses do not end with surgery; the cost of medications in the year after
surgery typically exceeds $30,000 a year (Jennifer Heisle). People need spend money on drugs in
order not to have problems with health after surgery transplanted organs to them. A lot of drugs are
very expensive. People should pay thousands of dollars for it. Overall, the disadvantage of organ
transplantation is the cost of this operation and following care, including medical. These arguments

Theme Of Too Much Happiness By Alice Munro
Women throughout the world and in all ages have been the subject of many literary works written
in different literary genres. Lots of literary critics have argued over the role and the status of
women in the world and their self recognition of their economic, social, political, literary, cultural
and familial position in literary works. Thus, women have been the important analytical issue since
the dawn of literature and whatever role they had, they were included in literary works as well as
literary canons.
The motif of woman is a universal issue; her oppression, her self entanglement, her self recognition,
her role in society and also in the family, her relation to art, science and nature. All these issues have

ANALYSIS OF ALCE MUNRO S SHORT STORIES
The short story collection of Lives of Girls and Women includes eight chapters through which
Munro goes through the details of women s ordinary life and makes this ordinariness extra ordinary
to confirm that a woman can reach mental maturity through the observation of other women around
her and her vital experience of the events. Munro embedded this fact in the protagonist Del who
gains maturity at the end and becomes a creative writer.
Through the observation of her mother (Addie) who reads a lot and sells encyclopedias, Del
finds out that she behaves like a clown and just pretends to be an intellectual. So she doesn t like
her mother s so much enthusiasm, excitement, aggressiveness and showing off as an intellectual.
Women should be equal to men in the way of acquiring knowledge of the world and books but the
way her mother shows off is not desirable both to Del and to people around her.
Her marginalization as someone not to be listened to or respected is presented as a psychological
danger that accompanies maternity. Her autonomy is also undercut by her daughter s perception of
her as someone who brings derision upon herself (Gault, 2006). In addition, Gualt examines Addie s
sense of intellectuality in this

Malcolm X is arguing that African Americans should have the same rights as whites to protect
future generations, and the people should do so violently. While MLK is saying the people should
do the same but peacefully. Both men, Malcolm Xand Martin Luther King Jr., had similar goals, but
they had different ideas on how to accomplish them; MLK had the better ideas. One idea that was
presented in both speeches was on how African Americans should obtain their civil rights. Malcolm

Malcolm X says to not disappoint your children with shame. For instance, he says If you don t
take this kind of stand, your little children will look at you and think shame (X 2). He is saying to
make the blacks equal so the African Americankids do not feel ashamed of who they are. But
MLK argues the fact that children are ripped of their selfhood and dignity. For example he says,
We can never be satisfied as long as our children are stripped of their self hood and robbed of
their dignity by signs stating: For whites only (King Jr. 2). He wants his audience to know that
the signs are going to hurt the children. He also wants the people not to create those signs.
Malcolm X and MLK had some of the same ideas in their speech and different ways on how to

everything to be nonviolent and peaceful. He truly cared on how to have blacks obtain their civil

Lying By Sissela Bok Summary
Book Review
There comes a time when a doctor, minister or politicians and an individual will tell a lie. It could
be a white lie or big lie; most people almost generally resort to lying in certain situation. Often times
a lawyer will lie in order to protect his client, or vice versa, a client will tell a lie in order to avoid
being incarnated. There are many situations an individual will be placed in, and at some point in
a person s life they will need to tell a lie. Is it appropriate to lie? This is what Sissela Bok writes
about in Lying: Moral choice in Public and Private Life. Bok acknowledges that despite numerous
religious and moral statements against lying, people will still lie in certain situations. She will

Bok analyzes the effects that lying has upon the society and individuals. In chapter XI, which
deals most directly with lawyers, she sited the code of professional responsibility in support of
this statement, in the adversary system of justice, truth is held to be more likely to emerges as a
result of the contest between opposing forces is the accused is both defended and prosecuted
zealously with the bounds of the law. In other words, Bok shows the social practice of truth
telling to have great value both generally and personally when dealing with clients, when you are
a lawyer. Throughout Sissela Bok writing, she continues to focus more emphasis on justification.
According to Bok, justification is the means by which a liar s distorted perspective can be
revealed. (Bok, 1999, p. 75) Bok suggests that reasonable person in general be considered the
audience in ethical matters. (Bok, 1999, p. 91) She mention early in her writing that justification
requires one to exercise the golden rule, sharing the perspective of those lied to as well as the
one benefiting from the lie. The last eight chapters she discuss justification in great detail and
clarification. In other words, often times in most situations a lie will backfire and cause harm to
an individual as well as the person who is telling the lie. She give example of kinds of lies that are
justified, such as lies in wartime and other crises, lies protecting

Impact of Industrial Development on Nigeria Stock Market
Impact of Industrial development on Nigeria stock market.
The potentials of capital market in Nigeria as a catalyst to economic and industrial development
cannot be over emphasized. The capital market as an internal part of a country s financial system
operates at the long end of the system to mobilize resources for long term development and growth.
Basically, the capital market accelerates growth by providing ,relatively long term capital debt and
equity finance for government and corporate sector. Several factors are said to contribute towards
economic and industrial development of a country. These factors includes the availability of human

For example, the South African stock market has about 650 listed companies while South Korea
market has been traced to apathy of Nigerian entrepreneurs to go public due to the fear of losing
control of their businesses. Another factor is the weak private sectors which is a serious constraint
militating against healthy growth of the stock market.
11. The problem of stock market relates to the degree of access, which investors have in buying
,and selling of stocks in such a market. The more liquid in the stock market is the more the
investors will be interested in trading in the market. The lack of adequate number of investors in
the Nigerian stock market is a reflection of problem of liquidity in the market. At an average ratio
of 2 percent per year, the turn over ration, a measure of the value of share traded relative to local
market capitalization is very low in Nigeria compared with 100 percent,9.0 percent and 4.6 percent
in Botswana,Zimbabwe, and Mauritania respectively. The low trading activities are also a result of
the ownership structure. Until 1995, when the Nigerian investment Promotion Commission Decree

I Want A Wife
Gender opportunities in the household have never been equal, this can be seen in advertisements,
on television, or even in the home. In society, mothers are expected to remain at home, to tidy the
house and take care of the children, while fathers get to go off to work, and unwind once they go
home. In the essay I Want a Wifeby Judy Brady, the author showcases all the duties that are
expected from wives. Brady utilizes a sarcastic tone, claiming she wants a wife , then proceeds to
write a wide range of things she would anticipate from her ideal wife . She pinpoints all the
physical, sexual, and social needs expected of women, and how they receive a fraction of what they
give in return. Women shouldn t be expected to put forth more effort... Show more content on

I can relate to what Brady is saying because throughout my entire life it had been my mother who
stayed at home to take care of me; I would get sick and my mother would pamper me, I d be
bamboozled by an uproar of questions only an overbearing mother would ask, and whenever I
am stuck on something, and am in need of some help, the first person I think to ask is my mother.
My father can be somewhat helpful at times, but he is almost never around, and claims he does
not have to do much anyways because he goes to work. It s critical for both parents to take equal
responsibility, because parenting is not an easy job and it s unjust to put all the work on the mother.
Parenting, like marriage, is an equal partnership and women shouldn t be expected to care more for
the children than their fathers, who get to have it

Aspects of Stress Essays
Aspects of Stress
a) Selye (1936/50) studied the behaviour of rats under stress through electric shock, and on hospital
patients and realised that they all reacted to stress in the same patterns. He called this pattern the
General Adaptation Syndrome (GAS). He stated that it involved three stages:
Alarm Reaction Stage: This involved the sympathetic branch of the Autonomic Nervous System
(ANS) activating the hypothalamic pituitary adrenal system, creating a fight or flight situation
within the body.
Resistance Stage: This kicks in when the alarm reaction stage is at a full. The parasympathetic
nervous system looks for ways to use resources more cautiously. The body attempts to recharge...

c) One physiological method of stress management is the use of Anti Anxiety Drugs. These are
drugs taken to try and contradict the body s natural hormones, which produce anxiety, and bring the
body back to homeostasis. Drugs such as Beta Blockers reduce activity in the sympathetic nervous
system and trigger the cardiovascular muscles to relax and lowers blood pressure.
Bergodiazepines such as Valium reduce arousal by increasing activity of the neurotransmitter
GABA that decreases seratonin. There are many benefits to using these drugs, as beta blockers are
not addictive and can be affective in reducing the effects of stress in the short term. However there
are also many costs of using Anti Anxiety Drugs, such as possible headaches and depression (Goa
Ward 1986), memory lose, tiredness, addictiveness (Ashton 1997), problems with coordination and
concentration, slurred speech, delirium, sweating, irritability, does not cure affects of stress and is
not a long term solution.
Another form of physiological stress management is the use of biofeedback. This is a technique
that aims to control autonomic muscles through the use of feedback about current physiological
functioning, with relaxation being a key component of this. There are 3 stages of biofeedback;

Copyright vs. the Right to Copy Essay
Copyright vs. the Right to Copy
Today s digital technology and the computer have changed how the average consumer can
acquire information and entertainment. No longer do we have to wait for the CD to hear a new
song, or the release date to watch a movie. The technology is available on our home computers.
But is this an infringement on copyright? What about the rights of artists, authors, producers, or
actors? Has our technology progressed so far that it infringes on these peoples livings? It is only a
matter of time before laws are passed regarding Internet use. Are we ready to give up the freedom
we have had up to this point? In her essay The Digital Rights War , PamelaSamuelson states that

The Mp3 player is digital and will hold a certain number of songs on a chip inside it. When the
chip is full you can buy a new one or record over the old one. Sony just came out with a product
called The Memory Stick this year. They plan to use it with their MP3 players as well as digital
cameras, and other products in the future. It is a memory chip that is compatible between the
products, so you only need one format of memory if you use their products. The CD Rom and CD
Rom rewritable are also popular products. These hook up to your computer and allow you to copy
files or anything you want off your computer.
According to Pamela Samuelson the possibility exists that all this could soon change. In her essay,

The Theory of Knowledge
Theory of Knowledge
5. The historian s task is to understand the past; the human scientist by contrast, is looking to
change the future. To what extent is this true in these areas of knowledge?
Life is too short for any individual to make every mistake. We use history to learn where we come
from and what caused events of the past to occur. It is important for us to have a strong and in
depth understanding of what caused events such as the Renaissance all the way up to World War
Two. Creating this strong in depth understanding of the past helps form a guide to make our future
better. Human Science seeks the functionality of the human mind in order to reason why people act
the way they do. These scientists find ways the mind works in order to avoid or coup with
undesirable traits of our psyche. Both History and Human Science, even though completely
different fields, use reason and emotion to gain knowledge of their areas of study. This leads us to
the question To what extent is the knowledge acquired by an Historian more or less reliable than
the knowledge gained through reason and emotion in the sciences? .
Historians attempt to identify what incidents and what kind of people changed the course of
human history. Inquiring what caused those incidents to occur? What made people act like the
way they did and why? Their studies observe both pleasant and cruel things of the past. Once able
to recognize what produced a good or a bad event or maybe even a person in

The current development levels of a region can be affected by many variables including the
physical features of that region. Physical features can provide with trade routes, natural resources,

they could invest on better education, roads, etc., therefore allowing the country to be classified

Since uranium has so much power it is a very valuable resource that can be traded internationally.
Such as the many trade agreements between Canada and the European Union. Letting free trade

Thanks to great physical barriers the culture of Europe is diverse allowing for many great locations
for tourism to take place. A lot of countries all over the world have their major income come from
tourism; tourism in these countries has helped them become more developed than before. Europe
has lots of tourist attractions , therefore Europe s landscape has aided to its development due to the
income it provides. However war over valuable land can decrease the amount of tourism in that
area. Therefore war can decrease the amount of money a country gains from tourism, which limits
the things it can do to make the country more developed.
While rivers may be great for trading, sometimes countries have little regulations on what
companies can throw into the rivers. Many companies and people have caused some of Europe s
rivers to be polluted. Pollution in rivers is a great problem since it stops the people from being
able to use the asset to bring in money for the country. If a river is polluted the river that comes

Feminist theory views violence as a manifestation of the patriarchal structure in our culture, which
is reflected in the patterns of behaviors and attitudes of individuals. Discoveries that abusive man
frequently espouses more traditional views about women than do non abusive men. Conversely
more recent research has found no difference between men s attitudes toward women and violent
behavior toward their partners.
Evidence regarding women s attitudes is similarly mixed. There is no found difference between
abused wives and those in discordant or satisfied marriages in their attitudes toward women. Also,
no found relationship between adherence and feminist ideology. Also, the experience of sexual
aggression in a dating relationship. Other researches have concluded that the discrepance between
some couple s attitudes toward women sex roles may be a more significant predictor of violence
than the actual values of either the man or the women. In summary support for a feminist
conceptualization of the integration transmission of violence requires of an association between
violence and patriarchal values both within an abusive couple and between generations. Also,
Males reported being more verbally abusive to their partners than did females as well as receiving
substantially more verbally abuse from their partners than they themselves extended. On the other

people seeing me as a fool. I was so concerned about thy self so much that all I could think about

Intravenus Lines
Intravenous fluids are administered through either a central or peripheral line. A central line is an
intravenous line made of a small flexible tubing used to intravenous medications, blood, or to
collect blood samples. A central line is inserted under the skin away from the vein, and it comes out
from a subcutaneous route. A cuff is placed around the tunneled part of the line securing placement
and helping to prevent infection to the insertion site. Central lines are inserted into large veins in
the central circulation (Caring, 2015). The catheter is threaded into the internal or external jugular
vein; it can also be threaded into the lower third of the vena cava leading to the superior part of
the right atrium. When inserted, a chest x ray is done to confirm placement and position of the
catheter, and to check for pneumothorax (Central, 2015). A peripheral line is a vein in the arm,
hand, or in an infant in the scalp. A peripherally inserted central line, also known as a PICC line, is
another type of catheter used to administer intravenous medications. PICC lines are inserted in the
inner arm toward the shoulder, moving to a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

pain that Jesus went through for them. The Baptist church has only a plain cross.
The Roman Catholic Church has a confessional box in order for the people attending worship to be

The Roman Catholic Church uses Bells to draw all the attention during the important parts of the

Women s Own Social Order
INTRODUCTION
For a long time, women have no freedom of speech, as feminist critics have said, always trying
to steal our language. Feminist Cixous believes that language is the main control of the power of
culture and ways of thinking, to overthrow patriarchal control, we must start from the critique of
language: Everything starts words: everything is word, and only word can help us to give back
our rights (Cixous). Everyone put their thinking into words, like any political ideology must use
language to express. However women never have their right of speech because they are not able to
escape from the control of men, and they have no idea of how to change the domination of
patriarchy society. To establish women s own social order, American radical feminismhave even
tried to emphasized the transformation of an existing language to female centric language system
in order to replace the old patriarchal language system; and American writer Gilman used her
famous short story the yellow wallpaper in late nineteen centuries to put up a banner of feminism,
she is not only to describe the real situation of women and created a strategical narrative to against
the patriarchy: drilling into men s thought and reveals it s abominable and obsolete social norms.

The Effects Of Children After Parental Incarceration
A Literature Review: The Effects on Children After Parental Incarceration
Prisons have been around for centuries and in many countries the prison population has grown
quickly. The prisoners health, behavior and well being have been focal points in many social
concerns, however; incarceration goes beyond the prisoners experience. It touches employment
after incarceration, social stigma, and families and communities that have been affected by
incarceration, especially a child with incarcerated parents. That is what Joseph Murray, David P.
Farrington, and Ivana Sekol focus on, the forgotten victims of crime (Matthews 1983). It is no
surprise that children will experience many hardships emotionally and socially during their parental
incarceration. This article aims to describe the associations between parental incarceration and
children s antisocial behavior, mental health, drug use, and low educational performance prior to
this event. The United States has the highest rate of imprisonment and has the largest prison
population in all of the world. According to Glaze, about half of U.S. prisoners are parents of
children under 18. Recent studies have noted that there are long term effects toward parental
incarceration of children showing undesirable effects . In one study of 411 boys, those who
experienced parental incarceration within their first 10 years of their life had double the risk for

empty, looming trees on either side of the path and nothing to hear besides the constant crunch

other was alive. Its trees were blazing with vibrant auburns and golds, and some of their leaves
danced in the wind. Patches of daisies and dandelions peaked out from underneath piles of fallen
leaves. I was entranced by the warm kiss of the sun, the rich smell of flowers, and the chatter of
woodland creatures. It held a secret: the wondrous beauty of life. Although I was not sure what
this trail would hold for me later on, I was eager to embark on this new journey. I started by
letting go of the forces that weighed me down. With every burden I shed, the colors seemed to
grow impossibly brighter. Finally, I was happily strolling down the path to who I would become.
No longer was I pressured by others expectations. No longer did I stress over disappointing or
pleasing those around me.. I was free to pursue my own satisfactions and set my own standards....

I learned that I am but one girl, and while I can achieve extraordinary things, I cannot accomplish
everything. By cutting out activities that did not mean much to me, I made room for those that did.
I decided to quit high school band, so I would have more time to pursue my interest in medicine. As
a result, I have been blessed with opportunities such as attending summer programs at the
University of Florida and the University of Louisiana at Monroe, volunteering in the oncology
department at the Baton Rouge General Hospital, and job shadowing at a local veterinarian s

Persuasive Essay About Year Round School
Nelson Mandela said, Education is the most powerful weapon which one can use to change the
world. Year round school would be beneficial to students because they would have that education
year round. Also by having school year round the students would be able to get more breaks
throughout the year, and even though this type of schedule is not perfect, the benefits outweigh the
drawbacks.
The main issue with year round school is that not everyone completely understands what it is.
Having school year round does not mean that we go to school without stopping for any breaks
whatsoever. Year round school
, in its most basic definition, takes the traditional two month
summer break and spreads those vacation days throughout the year. Instead of having two and
half months of summer and not that many breaks during the school year; the students would
have, for example, one month of summer vacation, and those days taken from summer vacation
could be put into fall break making it a two week break instead of having only three days off.
The general calendar of year round school is, the school year would start with forty five days of
school, and then there would be fifteen days of fall break marking the end of the first quarter.
Then, the students would go back to school for another thirty days, and after that, they would have
three days off for Thanksgiving break. Once they have reached that point, they have fifteen days of
school then they have Christmas break, which is fifteen

Student s Choice Of How They Spend Their Leisure Time...
Introduction: For many Elon students, the pressure and stress caused by a heavy course load can
be very detrimental to their health. Whether it be a lab report, final project, or cumulative test,
Elon students at one point or another will find themselves stressing out and in need to unwind. In
today s world, there are many options that allow students to unwind, taking a walk, playing video
games, or napping to name a few. These activities have nothing to do with your school work.
However, will they make an impact on your performance in the classroom? For my paper topic, I
decided to investigate how a student s choice of how they spend their leisuretime will affect their
collegiate GPA. This topic is important because we teach... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since the rise of streaming services like Netflix, children and young adults today find themselves
picking up books less and looking at screens more. Watching TV at a young age has often been
connected to poor performance on standardized tests. This includes one study which found that
Californian third graders who had televisions in their bedroom, watched more TV and in turn,
performed worse on standardized tests than those who did not (Gosline).
Some believe students who spend more time on video games instead of reading perform poorly
in school. This includes a group of schools in Michigan. Their after school program named, Kids
Learning in Computer Klubhouses! gave students a place to go after school to surf the web and
play video games. The program attracted students who, [miss] a lot of school and who [aren t]
particularly successful according to one adult coordinator (Girod). However, both a 2000 and 1997
study found a small correlation between amount of time spent playing video games and GPA
suggesting that while the program may have attracted those who do not perform well, their
performance may have been caused by other factors (Craton).
Napping is also an option for some students. Given that many find themselves up until the odd hours
in the morning, catching up on sleep can become a priority when given free time. Taking a nap
immediately after a lecture was shown to improve cognitive memory and in turn, standardized test
scores, according to one study

the neighborhood between Pico and Wilshire also know as the city s Pico Union neighborhood.
They immigrated to the United States Due to a 12 year civil war in El Salvador, which resulted in
over 100,000 deaths and over a million refugees(www.ms13gang.com). The Salvadorian refugees
and immigrants predominantly settled in southern California and Washington, D.C. Some of the
refugees and immigrants had ties with La Mara, a violent street gang from El Salvador. Others had

Members of MS 13 display no allegiance to any country, which is evident by their extreme
criminal activity. Members traffic drugs, weapons, and personnel across national boundaries.
They receive instructions and orders from gang members in other countries. They often carry
out hits on rival gangs and business competitors to maintain their goal. MS 13 may not have
Ideologies but they do have some very serious goals. One goal is to become the top gang in the
United States, and many believe they have reached this status. The Gang does not have an
agenda and is not pursuing any Ideological goal yet, they are a criminal enterprise whose main
goal at this moment is to become larger and more in control so they can make more money. One
detective was quoted to say MS 13 s mission generally is to be the biggest, strongest, dominant
gang in the Latino community that they re in. (quantumleap, 2008). MS 13 Identification MS 13

Feminist Theory In Thornton Wilder s Our Town
In Our Town, there are many themes that are present in the play. There are many instances where
the reader or audience can say that while writing the play that Thornton Wilder had in mind that the
play was going to support the feminist movement, or the how the play can be used to show how
ridiculous the marxist theory is, or it can also say that Wilder intended Our Town to be used to
support the mythological theory, both the archetypal characters, in the town drunk, Simon Stimson,
and George and Emily, and archetypal images, such as his references Mrs. Webb s and Mrs. Gibbs
gardens, and how he continued to reference how the moon looks and its position throughout the
play. Thornton Wildercan be said to support the feminist movement because... Show more content

When the women are coming home from choir practice and they talk about how ell planting will
be because of how big the moon is. In Act III the dead peoples, or spirits, reference the moon as a
guiding light. Another image that Wilder references is Mrs. Webb and Mrs. Gibbs gardens in
the introduction of the town because he wants the town to seem fertile and helpful to the soul,
much like how the garden could be if one was to admire how the colors are. He mentions the
sunflowers and how bright they are and how they add to the overall effect of pleasantness to the
town. The play could also support the archetype characters because one could view Wilder as
intending George and Emily to play the roles as Adam and Eve, because they are the ones who
are going to fulfill the ]roles of bearing the next generation of children for the town to continue to
prosper, of course until the end of the play because they only have one child, the other child that
killed Emily in childbirth is not known whether to live or dies. Also another role that Wilder
assigns is to the town drunk, Simon Stimson, as the outcast or loner because everyone talks about
him but does not really talk to him or acknowledge him, like how he plays the

Atlanta Exposition Address Analysis
Booker T. Washington gave his famous Atlanta Exposition Address on September 18, 1895.
This speech was considered definitive in Washington s accomodationist strategy in response to
racial tensions in the South. In this speech, Washington responded to the question of what could
be done about the dreadful social and economic conditions of blacks and the relationship
between the southern blacks and whites. In this speech, he urged racial cooperation along with
acceptance of social segregation as a price to pay in order to receive education and economic
security. His speech was praised by some, such as Clark Howell of the Atlanta Constitution, for
political passivity compromising ideas in that time of prejudice. (archive.org) It was also
criticized by others such as W.E.B. Du Bois for accepting the idea of separate but equal . The
time period in which the Atlanta Exposition Address was delivered was referred to as the Post
Reconstruction Era . Within this era, there was institutionalized racism and legal discrimination.
Blacks were legally able to vote, however there were things like poll taxes and discriminatory
laws, such as the grandfather clause, that were put in place to discourage black voters. There was
also anti black violence such as lynching and riots including the Atlanta Race Riot of 1906
(Components of Jim Crow PowerPoint, slide 10) and the Tusla Race Riot of 1921. Both of these
riots combined saw just under 100 blacks killed and hundreds injured. (African

With the growing threat that immigration is bad and that illegal immigrants are stealing American jobs, many people believe the laws need to be even more strict. With Donald Trump recently elected that may become a reality. Trump has said I will build a great wall and also anyone who is in the United StatesIllegally is subject to deportation (Brandner). DACA is a program that allows young people from other countries to come live in the U.S with no risk of being deported. This program has helped roughly 665,000 people live in the U.S (Wolgin). Although it has become harder to live in the U.S many people still try and enter because they know America gives them an opportunity that no other country does. This is what continues to make America great. While a constant flow of people coming to America seems like a great idea to most, President elect Trump thinks the U.S need to limit the people it let in. During his campaign he said he would repeal DACA and kick out all illegal immigrants. His thought process behind this is that it will free up jobs for Americans. Trump is right that it will free up jobs as roughly 8 million illegal immigrants currently have jobs , but the issue is that Americans won t have the proper training to take all of these jobs (Krogstad). This will lead to companies not producing what they should and being forced to lay off people. So overall by kicking out all immigrants Trump will be costing many Americans jobs and could lead to another depression. Another thing that Trump has said he will do is build a wall around the U.S and Mexico. This wall will cost millions, maybe even billions of dollars, yet Trump has not elaborated on how it will be paid for. He has said he will get Mexico to pay for it and that he has a plan to do it, but nobody knows what that is. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is our job to help you identify your goal, acquire job searching skills and get prepare for the outside world. Janice Tester (Career advisor, McGill University) Janice Tester has been working as a Career Advisor for McGill Career planning Service Office (CaPS) for over 17 years. In 2014, I started to serve as a peer educator in CaPS office and Janice became my supervisor since then. Despite the fact that we worked closely together in the past two years, I never get a chance to know her accomplishments in the job and how she perceive her work. This became my initial motivation to interview her. Another reason is that, given the importance of career advising service in McGill, its performance is difficult to evaluate. A throughout analysis on this position can be helpful for its performance improvement. Several expectations for this position were developed during my working in CaPS. Firstly, I expected career advisors to be business orientated, with backgrounds in human resource management. Secondly, since their works involve mostly one on one consulting with students, interactions with colleagues are limited and unnecessary. Thirdly, I expected that, career advisors enjoy a high level of initiative. Instead of taking commands directly from their supervisor, they have the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Thus, women have been the important analytical issue since the dawn of literature and whatever role they had, they were included in literary works as well as literary canons. Munro embedded this fact in the protagonist Del who gains maturity at the end and becomes a creative writer. Through the observation of her mother (Addie) who reads a lot and sells encyclopedias, Del finds out that she behaves like a clown and just pretends to be an intellectual. So she doesn t like her mother s so much enthusiasm, excitement, aggressiveness and showing off as an intellectual. Women should be equal to men in the way of acquiring knowledge of the world and books but the way her mother shows off is not desirable both to Del and to people around her. Her marginalization as someone not to be listened to or respected is presented as a psychological danger that accompanies maternity. Her autonomy is also undercut by her daughter s perception of her as someone who brings derision upon herself (Gault, 2006). In addition, Gualt examines Addie s sense of intellectuality in this ... In society, mothers are expected to remain at home, to tidy the house and take care of the children, while fathers get to go off to work, and unwind once they go home. To what extent is this true in these areas of knowledge? Life is too short for any individual to make every mistake. We use history to learn where we come from and what caused events of the past to occur. It is important for us to have a strong and in depth understanding of what caused events such as the Renaissance all the way up to World War Two. Creating this strong in depth understanding of the past helps form a guide to make our future better. Human Science seeks the functionality of the human mind in order to reason why people act the way they do. These scientists find ways the mind works in order to avoid or coup with undesirable traits of our psyche. Both History and Human Science, even though completely different fields, use reason and emotion to gain knowledge of their areas of study. This leads us to the question To what extent is the knowledge acquired by an Historian more or less reliable than the knowledge gained through reason and emotion in the sciences? . Historians attempt to identify what incidents and what kind of people changed the course of human history. Inquiring what caused those incidents to occur? What made people act like the way they did and why? Their studies observe both pleasant and cruel things of the past. Year round school , in its most basic definition, takes the traditional two month summer break and spreads those vacation days throughout the year. Instead of having two and half months of summer and not that many breaks during the school year; the students would have, for example, one month of summer vacation, and those days taken from summer vacation could be put into fall break making it a two week break instead of having only three days off. The general calendar of year round school is, the school year would start with forty five days of school, and then there would be fifteen days of fall break marking the end of the first quarter. • 39. Student s Choice Of How They Spend Their Leisure Time... Introduction: For many Elon students, the pressure and stress caused by a heavy course load can be very detrimental to their health. Whether it be a lab report, final project, or cumulative test, Elon students at one point or another will find themselves stressing out and in need to unwind. In today s world, there are many options that allow students to unwind, taking a walk, playing video games, or napping to name a few. These activities have nothing to do with your school work. However, will they make an impact on your performance in the classroom? For my paper topic, I decided to investigate how a student s choice of how they spend their leisuretime will affect their collegiate GPA. This topic is important because we teach... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since the rise of streaming services like Netflix, children and young adults today find themselves picking up books less and looking at screens more. Watching TV at a young age has often been connected to poor performance on standardized tests. This includes one study which found that Californian third graders who had televisions in their bedroom, watched more TV and in turn, performed worse on standardized tests than those who did not (Gosline). Some believe students who spend more time on video games instead of reading perform poorly in school. This includes a group of schools in Michigan. Their after school program named, Kids Learning in Computer Klubhouses! gave students a place to go after school to surf the web and play video games. The program attracted students who, [miss] a lot of school and who [aren t] particularly successful according to one adult coordinator (Girod). However, both a 2000 and 1997 study found a small correlation between amount of time spent playing video games and GPA suggesting that while the program may have attracted those who do not perform well, their performance may have been caused by other factors (Craton). Napping is also an option for some students. Given that many find themselves up until the odd hours in the morning, catching up on sleep can become a priority when given free time. Taking a nap immediately after a lecture was shown to improve cognitive memory and in turn, standardized test scores, according to one study ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. Feminist Theory In Thornton Wilder s Our Town In Our Town, there are many themes that are present in the play. There are many instances where the reader or audience can say that while writing the play that Thornton Wilder had in mind that the play was going to support the feminist movement, or the how the play can be used to show how ridiculous the marxist theory is, or it can also say that Wilder intended Our Town to be used to support the mythological theory, both the archetypal characters, in the town drunk, Simon Stimson, and George and Emily, and archetypal images, such as his references Mrs. Webb s and Mrs. Gibbs gardens, and how he continued to reference how the moon looks and its position throughout the play. Thornton Wildercan be said to support the feminist movement because... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When the women are coming home from choir practice and they talk about how ell planting will be because of how big the moon is. In Act III the dead peoples, or spirits, reference the moon as a guiding light. Another image that Wilder references is Mrs. Webb and Mrs. Gibbs gardens in the introduction of the town because he wants the town to seem fertile and helpful to the soul, much like how the garden could be if one was to admire how the colors are. He mentions the sunflowers and how bright they are and how they add to the overall effect of pleasantness to the town. The play could also support the archetype characters because one could view Wilder as intending George and Emily to play the roles as Adam and Eve, because they are the ones who are going to fulfill the ]roles of bearing the next generation of children for the town to continue to prosper, of course until the end of the play because they only have one child, the other child that killed Emily in childbirth is not known whether to live or dies. Also another role that Wilder assigns is to the town drunk, Simon Stimson, as the outcast or loner because everyone talks about him but does not really talk to him or acknowledge him, like how he plays the ... • 43. Atlanta Exposition Address Analysis Booker T. Washington gave his famous Atlanta Exposition Address on September 18, 1895. This speech was considered definitive in Washington s accomodationist strategy in response to racial tensions in the South. In this speech, Washington responded to the question of what could be done about the dreadful social and economic conditions of blacks and the relationship between the southern blacks and whites. In this speech, he urged racial cooperation along with acceptance of social segregation as a price to pay in order to receive education and economic security. His speech was praised by some, such as Clark Howell of the Atlanta Constitution, for political passivity compromising ideas in that time of prejudice. (archive.org) It was also criticized by others such as W.E.B. Du Bois for accepting the idea of separate but equal . The time period in which the Atlanta Exposition Address was delivered was referred to as the Post Reconstruction Era . Within this era, there was institutionalized racism and legal discrimination. Blacks were legally able to vote, however there were things like poll taxes and discriminatory laws, such as the grandfather clause, that were put in place to discourage black voters. There was also anti black violence such as lynching and riots including the Atlanta Race Riot of 1906 (Components of Jim Crow PowerPoint, slide 10) and the Tusla Race Riot of 1921. Both of these riots combined saw just under 100 blacks killed and hundreds injured. (African ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
