There are two different types of competitive advantage: low cost and differentiation. We will develop
them in this part I.
But Firstly, we will start this part by talking about the importance of a deep analysis of the industry s
structure. A deep knowledge of the industry the company is in, is extremely important. The industry
structure is unique and varies from industry to industry of course. It will determine the level of
competitiveness and attraction of the industry. With the Five Forces model (Porter) and PESTEL
(Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Environmental, Legal) analysis, the organization will get
a better understanding of the market will allow you to know the requirements for the possible creation
of sustainable competitive advantages and take the right strategic decisions. According to Porter, to
create an efficient competitive strategy, it is important to understand the rules of competition that
determine market attractiveness.
In the five forces model by Porter, four forces will influence the fifth one (see the model on the right).
The bargaining power of suppliers, the bargaining power of customers, the threat of substitute
products and the threat of new entrants will influence the fifth force: the level of competition in the
industry (S.Clegg, C.Carter, M.Kornberger, amp; J.Scheitzer, 2011).

Research Paper On Heat Stroke
Heat exhaustion is one of three heat related illnesses. It is the second most serious of these illnesses,
with heat cramps being the mildest, and heat strokes being the most serious. Heat exhaustion usually
occurs when someone is exposed to high temperatures and becomes dehydrated. When experiencing
high temperatures, the body sweat in order to cool itself off. If it has to do this for long periods at a
time, it will lose large amounts of fluids and eventually become dehydrated. There are many signs that
precede heat exhaustion. These are similar to those of a heat stroke, but slightly less severe. The signs
include nausea, dizziness, vomiting, muscle cramps, feeling faint or fatigued, and heavy sweating.
Some people are more likely to experience heat exhaustion than others. This is because of certain
conditions that worsen the effects or make them more likely. One of these conditions is diabetes. One
of the main reasons for this is because hot temperatures can increase or decrease blood sugar levels,
causing hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia. This would worsen or even cause symptoms to start
occurring. If someone goes experiences heat exhaustion, it is important to get help right away. If they
don t get help in time, it could worsen and possibly turn into heat stroke. The first thing that you
should do is get out of the heat. Go somewhere cool ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other times, you can recover by taking certain steps at home. Either way, it is important to take further
steps in order to stay healthy. It can take one to two days to recover from heat exhaustion, so you
should be extremely careful directly after. For the next week, or time period directed by doctor, try to
avoid excess excercise and exposure to high temperatures. It is helpful to get fluid and electrlyte levels
checked regularly, so that you can recover fully and not have the same issue

The Jungle Book vs Tarzan of the Apes

The novel Tarzan of the Apes and Jungle Book are both stories about infant child, adopted by wild
animals, which have interesting similarities and differences regarding setting, characters and imagery
with hyperbole and personalization.
The first literature work is Tarzan of the Apes the novel of John Clayton, born in the western coastal
jungles of equatorial Africa and adopted as an infant by the she ape Kala, written by Edgar Rice
Burroughs in October 1912. Another literature work is Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling was writing

H. H Holmes Accomplishments
Henry Howard Mudgett, better known as H.H Holmes, to most is just a ghost story. He is nothing
more than a black mark on America s extensive history, a part of history that is skipped over more
often than not. However, H.H Holmes was an important part of United States history. Without the
horrors of H.H Holmes, we would not have as strong of a law enforcement as we do today. H.H
Holmes helped open a new world of research to psychologists and without him, psychologists would
not have as much knowledge of the impacts of poor mental health as they do today. Because of H.H
Holmes, the government would not know how to punish crimes of such high degree, or how to

He grew up secluded with his two brothers, Henry and Arthur, and his sister Ellen. He also grew up
with his parents who were devout Methodists. A common factor about serial killers is that they usually
grew up in a strictly religious household. His home life was hard because of his mentally and
physically abusive parents, especially his father. Researchers have found out that his father used
tactics such as prolonged isolation and even food deprivation. Furthermore, his father reportedly held
kerosene soaked rags over Holmes and the other children s mouths to quiet them when they cried.
(Concordia University). A child s relationship with their parents is crucial in their development.
Psychologists have researched this specific topic for years and drew the conclusion that, Without the
safety net of a secure attachment relationship, children grow up to become adults who struggle with
feelings of low self worth and challenges with emotional regulation. They also have an increased risk
of developing depression and anxiety. (How Childhood Trauma). Because of his parents neglecting,
his idea of relationships was skewed, and he became isolated. He had no positive relationship to

traumatized by the abuse that it ultimately led to his inability to form meaningful relationships.

having no friends. His most notable bullying incident was when Holmes, blindsided by classmates,
was forced into a doctor s office, where the hands of a skeleton were forcibly placed over his face.

Treatment Plan For John s Depression
This paper will discussion John s background, work environment and relationships with family. It will
explain the interview process, behavioral observations, level of depression, and angry. It will also
exploring how John s depression has led to his drinking problem and what form of treatment would be
best suited to reach John s goals of freeing himself of depression and anger, so he can live a happy
life. Treatment Plan for John s Depression John is a married man, who serves in the military service. It
was Jon s wife who encouraged John to seek counseling. John is having difficulty dealing with his
life, he feels it s worthless. He has no motivation to stop jeopardizing his job or marriage, even though
he is aware that his actions are causing complications in both his work performance and in his
marriage. John toured in Iraq, and decided two months ago that he no longer wanted to be affiliated
with the military service, because of stories he heard about the deaths related to wars in Iraq. When he
returned home from his tour six months ago, he was happy to be home, but slowly started losing
motivation to go to work. He started showing up late, and not fulling his duties at work. His wife is at
this point tired of John s behavior and advised him to seek therapy. Unstructured Interview An
unstructured interview would be most appropriate in John s situation because it allows flexibility in
establishing rapport with him (Jones, 2010, p. 1). It also allows the counselor to

Augustus Caesar Biography
Augustus Caesar (63 BCE 14 CE) was the name of the first and, by all accounts, greatest emperor of
Rome. Augustus was born Gaius Octavius Thurinus on September 23, 63 BCE. He was adopted by his
great uncle Julius Caesar in 44 BCE, and then took the name Gaius Julius Caesar. Originally called
Gaius Octavius, he changed his name to Gaius Julius Caesar Octavian, upon being adopted by his
great uncle. Seventeen years later, the Senate awarded him with the name Augustus, meaning Revered
One. Augustus came from a prosperous family that had long been settled at Velletri, southeast of
Rome. Augustus married three times, although his first union, to Mark Antony s stepdaughter Clodia
Pulchra, was unconsummated. His second wife, Scribonia, who had his only child, Julia the Elder. He
divorced in 39 B.C. to marry Livia Drusilla, who had two sons, by her first husband. The family tree
became more complicated after Augustus had his stepson Tiberius briefly marry his daughter, and then
adopted Tiberius outright as son and successor in A.D. 4. Augustus Caesar died in A.D. 14, his empire
secured and at peace. His reported last words were twofold: to his subjects he said, I found Rome of
clay; I leave it to you of marble, but to the friends who had stayed with him in his rise to power he
added, Have I played the part well? Then applaud me as I exit. Soon after that acknowledgement of
human frailty, the Roman Senate officially declared their departed emperor, like Julius Caesar before

Essay on Satire in Canterbury Tales
The aim of any true satirical work is to poke fun at a certain aspect of society, while also inspiring
reform to that very same aspect in one way or another. In Chaucer s Canterbury Tales, Chaucer
satirizes the Medieval Church and those associated with the church. Medieval society was centered
largely around the Church. Ideally, the people were expected to understand that earthly possessions
were meaningless when compared to the prospect of closeness with God. Man was expected to work
until he died, at which time he would receive eternal salvation. This eternal salvation was achieved by
obeying God s commandments. This theory, however, was becoming progressively corrupted as
hypocrisy began to pollute the Church, particularly at the higher ... Show more content on

Chaucer makes it quite clear to the reader that these men boast about the high morals of the Church,
and then proceed to live in stark contrast to nearly every one of these morals. One example is how the
Church preaches a solemn vow of chastity. Nevertheless, Chaucer tells of how the Friar had fixed up
many a marriage, giving each/ Of his young women what he could afford her. Therefore, the Friar
would find husbands for the women that he had previously seduced but then lost interest in. Another
aspect of the Church that these holy men prove inconsistent is the vow of simple living. The Monk
lives a rather lavish lifestyle, as Chaucer tells, The Rule of good St. Benet or St. Maur/ As old and
strict he tended to ignore;/ He let go by the things of yesterday/ And took the modern world s more
spacious way. The monk enjoyed the comforts of good living, with fur lined clothing, a fine horse, and
first class meals. Likewise, the Friar enjoyed fine clothing, as Chaucer says, Not then appearing as
your cloistered scholar/ With threadbare habit hardly worth a dollar,/ But much more like a Doctor or
a Pope. These elegant lifestyles are clearly in opposition to the teachings of the Church on simplistic
living. Finally, the Pardoner preaches on behalf of the Church against greed and avarice, however he is
very greedy himself. In his tale, the Pardoner tells an excellent tale denouncing greed and showing
how greed leads to a person s downfall, yet the

The Three Joys and One Misfortune
The Three Joys and One Misfortune Paresse Pereza was a lazy woman who never worked. In her
childhood and adolescence, she did not finish her homework or chores and did not attend school; even
after becoming an adult, she stayed in her house, completely depending on her parents for everything.
Her appearance, however, was very charming. She had beautiful golden hair that landed softly on her
back and bluish emerald eyes that glowed when reflected on sunlight. She always wore a black one
piece as if attending a funeral, and anyone who had seen her would say that they had a good first
impression of her.
After Paresse s parents whom she was wholly relying on died, the young woman became homeless
and impoverished, since she did not have any inheritance from her parents. Although she was
struggling in poverty, Paresse remained idle and did not even think about getting a job or a house. One
day, Paresse was wandering around her neighborhood, hoping to find some food to eat. Her charming
appearance had disappeared: her smooth golden hair became rough and dirty, and her beautiful
emerald eyes seemed to turn into a dull khaki color, due to her stained face. Her black one piece had
turned into a chunk of ragged fabric, and she had blisters on her feet since she wore no shoes.
As she walked aimlessly, she inadvertently arrived at a gargantuan forest called The Dark Forest.
There was a rumor about a prophet who lived inside the forest and made anyone s wish come true.

The Spirit World Essay
This weeks reading continues with the theme of the of the Spirit world, with a specific interest in
angels and demons. The text begins by stating quite plainly that one cannot deny the existence of
angels under the authority of scripture. Yet, within this topic there seems to be an air of mysticism and
pleasantries around these beings. In other words, when discussing this topic it is rather important to
get away from the thought that we have an angel on one shoulder and a demon on the other. However,
this is about as far an understanding as a majority of common culture has allowed. All the while,
scripture is plain, angels do indeed exist throughout the whole new and old testament, from Genesis to
Revelation. The text then transitions from the existence of angelic beings to the biblical description of
them. The first characteristic that Ryrie mentions is the state of Angels as created beings as apposed to
beings that create. This simply means that angels were created by God and they ... Show more content

Like the angels he shares in the ability to think, feel emotion, and have a personal will. That being said
his personality is not described with the holiness of the angels. Coupling the existence of his
personality with Jesus encounter with him in the desert gives further insight to his personhood. Simply
put, Satan is not just a personification of evil because Jesus uses personal pronouns when speaking to
and about him. The text then mentions something that I find rather comforting. Satan is a created
being, he is not creator. He is not on an equal platform in power as God. This means that he possesses
limitations to his power. For God alone holds the power of omnipotence, omnipresence, and
omniscience. Though he is a mighty being he is still not as powerful as his creator. Satan is actually
named as the chief arch angel in Ezekiel 28:12. This means he has held a great deal of power, which is
why he is currently known as the prince of the

Education In Public Education
Education has undergone many rhetorical and definitional changes since its creation; the explicit
purpose of teaching the masses, particularly in the framework of public schooling, has varied from
culture to culture. At its core, though, the aim is simple: to efficiently construct productive members of
a society. This effort has to encompass so much of the values of said societies that it becomes
impossible for educational institutions to avoid the influence of larger institutions. Within these
constraints comes the effect of social reproduction. This institutional byproduct of education rooted in
societal values guarantees that students who come from lower income backgrounds are fated to
experience this existence as adults, whereas students from higher income families have the advantages
to follow in the footsteps of their parents. Without deeply studying and working to reverse social
reproduction, our current educational system is the story of history repeating itself.
In the humble beginnings for early American understandings, public education was designed to create
productive citizens in part by mollifying any potential class conflicts. According to Horace Mann s
conceptions of public schooling for the country, providing a uniform education meant providing equal
opportunity for all. If the lower class thought that their students had the opportunity to succeed like the
rich did, they would be much less likely to rebel against the systems currently in place (Brick 2005).

Reflection Of The Fight On Human Rights And Reproductive...
I first really recognized the fight for social justice on June 25, 2013. This was the day Wendy Davis
defended reproductive rights at the Texas Capitol for 13 hours. I grew up in a politically active
climate, but watching a livestream of the Texas Legislature that night had more of an effect on me than
anything I had done or witnessed before. I am interested in the Bridging Disciplines Program s Human
Rights and Social Justice certificate because from that night on I have become aware of the incredible
amount of injustice in the world. For a little while, I wanted to be a public official like Wendy Davis.
However, after I started taking classes at UT, I immediately became interested in court cases.
Especially, I loved the class Supreme Court and Public Policy. It struck me that most human rights
victories came from the courts rather than the legislature. Just three years after the filibuster, this
proved true to me yet again when the Supreme Court declared unconstitutional the law Wendy Davis
had attempted to block. The Senators and by extension the Texas voters couldn t stop this injustice, but
the courts did.
By completing this certificate, I hope to learn about different human rights movements from across the
world. I will look to answer why certain movements succeeded and certain movements have failed or
are still in progress. While I don t plan on specializing in a strand due to the limited time I have to
complete this certificate, I am most interested in the Theory,

Alienation In The Metamorphosis
At the beginning of Franz Kafka s The Metamorphosis, Gregor becomes a giant beetle, loses his
abilities as a human, such as his ability to communicate and work. Gregor s transformation explores
the theme of alienation. Through the attitude of people around him and himself, Gregor shows he is
isolated from his body, his mind and his social relationships: he neither connects to society nor his
family. Through Gregor s tragic experience, Kafka is fighting against alienation. He also criticizes the
numbness and apathy in family relationship for creating hopelessness and loneliness. The alienation of

takes care of her brother because she wants to show her ability as a family member: she is an adult

Similarities Between Egypt And Babylon
The Kingdoms of Egypt and Babylon are arguably two of the most recognized and taught about
kingdoms of the ancient world. Although, both kingdoms played major roles in biblical times and are
written about extensively in the bible, this paper does not use the bible as part of the research process,
simply due to the fact that outside of the religion of Christianity, the bible is thought of as an historical
book filled with fables and mythology. The research reflected in this paper shows the similarities of
the Egyptians and Babylonians in religious practices, social strata, and economies. The economies of
both Egypt and Babylon are similar in that both kingdoms sit on the bank of a mighty river. There are
also a great many similarities in religion, both kingdoms built temples, worshiped mythical gods, and
offered sacrifices to the gods. The social structure of Egypt and Babylon are nearly identical, being

Christian Vs Ephesians
Christianity is not an ideal, it s a lifestyle choice. You are not born into a religion, you are not a
Christian, Jewish, Buddhist or any specific religion from birth, you are raised as to be that religion.
C.S. Lewis is an example of someone who was brought up in a Protestant household, lost faith
through his teen years and found Christianity in college. We develop our religion throughout our
years, growing more knowledgeable from our experiences and realizing that each of God s teachings
can relate back to us on a day to day basis. Each book in the Bible is like stories with a lesson. Mere
Christianity taught similar lessons to those in the Bible, but with a philosophical point of view. C.S.

basis for people to be decent or live just lives. The Nicene Creed relates to C.S. Lewis Mere
Christianity because one provides the creation of an afterlife and the other provides imagery of the

which was a fulfillment in Christ. The first two sections of the Nicene Creed are about God and Jesus.
The sections talk of God being the Father and Jesus is the only Son of God, then further down talks
about how Jesus was crucified and then rose again. These two sections are relative to each other

Conspiracy Theories Are An Integral Part Of Society
Conspiracy theories are an integral part of society to answer the world s unexplained questions. It is a
theory that explains an event or set of circumstances as the result of a secret plot by usually powerful
conspirators (Merriam Webster). There are various ways to categorize these theories. According to
Jesse Walker, there are five kinds: The enemy outside, the enemy within, the enemy above, the enemy
below, and benevolent conspiracies (p. __). On the other hand Michael Barkun believes there are three
types: event conspiracy, systematic conspiracy, and super conspiracy (p. 6). The conspiracy theory at
hand revolves around Purdue Pharmaceuticals (Purdue Pharma), and their release of opioids. Opium is
a plant that was used from 1804 to now. In 1972 Contin was put on the market at a controlled drug

The Chimney Sweeper By William Walker Analysis
In Songs of Innocence and of Experience, the two poems The Chimney Sweeper highlight the
injustice during Blake s time such as: poverty, child labour, and abuse. The Chimney Sweeper
illustrates William Blake s understanding of innocence and experience by exposing the hypocritical
nature of authority during the 1700s. This essay will begin with explaining Blake s concept of
innocence and experience .
Firstly, William Blake perceives innocence and experience as contrasting states of the soul. As a
result, the narrators are examples of his understanding through their accounts of their life. In The
Chimney Sweeper (1789), William Blake wrote:
And so Tom awoke and we rose in the dark
And got with our bags brushes to work
Tho the morning was cold, Tom was happy Warm,
So if all do their duty, they need not fear harm. (Blake, Lines 21 24).
The boy and Tom Dacre are innocent through their optimism in their hopes despite their harsh reality.
The essence of Blake s understanding of innocence is the ability to be joyful and celebratory with
hope. In contrast, the narrator in The Chimney Sweeper (1794) knows that there is no hero or escape
from the life of a Chimney Sweep. Essentially showing experience as the acceptance of the present
reality as the only reality.
On top of that, William Blake s concepts of experience can be further explained through the imagery
used by the narrator in The Chimney Sweeper (1794). In The Chimney Sweeper (1794), William
Blake writes:
And because i am happy, dance sing,
They think they have done me no injury:
And are gone to praise God his Priest King
Who make up a heaven of our misery. ( Lines 9 12).
The boy shows a full understanding of the hopelessness in his situation without interruption from
dreams or thoughts of being saved. He thoroughly explains the misuse of power in authority in his
situation. However, Tom Dacre vividly describes his friend s dream in two stanzas. The children in
The Chimney Sweeper (1789) do not fully comprehend the harsh reality of chimney sweeps and
instead clings to the ideas of hope.
William Blake illustrates his concepts through highlighting the hypocrisy during the 1700s. The life of

True Identity In King Henry IV By William Shakespeare
Usually most of us have an appearance that lies behind another appearance but as we go through life
we either get tired from hiding it or learn that we should always show our true self no matter the
situation we re in. when we don t show our true self, its either because we are afraid of what people
will think of us or change our true it to please others. Shakespeare demonstrate the character s
appearance as two different books combined in one. Shakespeare keep playing constantly with the
characters appearance and misleading the audience. Shakespeare distinguish 3 different types of
appearance in the play. The first and main one is Hal who appear in his true identity in the end, the
second is King Henry IV who had no choice but to hide his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

He kept playing the role of innocent, strong and royal but in real he is weak, dishonorable, guilty and
coward. The king had no choice but to wear a mask, because if the people discover who the real king
is and what he did , he might loses his crown and that s his big fears. In the end of the play,
appearances play a crucial role in the Battle of Shrewsbury as King Henry s side dresses up numerous
soldiers in the king s robes to deceive their opponents. Douglas cannot even discern who the real King
Henry is and thinks that he s killed the king when he s actually slain Sir Walter Blunt. The king was in
charge for the death of many real innocent people. The end of the king was to die in guilt for his entire
life. Again Shakespeare shows how the end of someone who try to hide his true self will look

The Effects Of Media On Child Sexual Abuse
INTRODUCTION
This research will assess the role of the media related to child sexual abuse and argues that the media
has been very essential to the job of placing the problem of the Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) in the
attention of the public and the political agenda. The media plays a huge role in defining what is
normal and what is deviant in society, therefore contributing to what the definitions are, and what it is
not, suggested what is child abuse. Whilst knowing that the media s portrayal of CSA some have
negative consequences for their families and the children. The media has a way and has the power to
twist and manipulate a topic however they want, even if the public were to agree or disagree on the
subject. However, as a case of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Around 1 in 20 children in the UK will have experienced CSA. Boys and girls can be victims of
sexual abuse, however, girls are six times more likely to have been affected.
Those people who sexually abuse children can be an adult, an adolescent or a child themselves.
Majority of the abusers are male, whereas sometimes females can abuse children as well. 40% of CSA

Review of the Universal Nonverbal Intelligence Test by LAUREN SCANLAN, School Psychology
Graduate Student, University of Nebraska Lincoln, Lincoln, NE:
DESCRIPTION. The Universal Nonverbal Intelligence Test (UNIT) is an individually administered
test consisting of tasks designed to measure the general intelligence and cognitive abilities (manual, p.
1). The test is designed to assess individuals from age 5 to 17 years. The test is entirely nonverbal,
thus it is especially suitable for children and adolescents who have speech, language, or hearing
impairments; color vision deficiencies; different cultural or language backgrounds, and those who are
verbally uncommunicative (manual, p. 1). The examiner uses relatively universal hand and body
gestures to provide directions and indicate responses. The test includes demonstration items where the
examiner indicates how to complete an item, sample items where examiner feedback is permitted,
checkpoint items where the examiner can correct the incorrect responses, and scored items which do
not allow for examiner feedback (manual, p. 2).
The UNIT is composed of six subtests including

Barbie Dolls Have Changed
How a childhood object has changed over time and how it is related to broader contexts.
In this essay I am going to be discussing and assessing how the Barbie Doll which is a toy for
children, mainly for girls has changed over the years since the 1900 s to the present generation and
how this relates to other larger contexts like class, gender, race, disability and faith. Below I have

I believe that Barbie has changed massively over the years in skin colour, hair colour and sizes. Piaget
has created the theory of learning through play. He says children engage themselves In imaginative
play which means that if they see a story or characters they are most likely to imitate them and what
they do. When children imitate others they develop a vocabulary which allows them to name the
world around them. This relates to dolls because if a child is given a doll which moves and does things
around a doll house like cleaning, a child will imitate that around the house and act like a house wife
like the doll. This shows that dolls are created in that way to leave a image in the child s head on what
a girl does when she grows up, likewise how the dolls have changed, whilst children grow older they

A Raisin in the Sun
Introduction
The movie A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry is about an African American family who
receives an insurance check for $10,000 from Mr. Younger s life insurance policy. Each of the family
members are anticipating doing something different with the money; in the meantime mama has plans
to buy a house for the family. The Younger family faces economic hardships and racial discrimination
during their struggles to gain middle class acceptance. The movie A Raisin in the Sun demonstrates
the importance of family values, personal dreams, and racial discrimination. In the 1961 play, A Raisin

their dreams that are often disregarded by others however; they eventually learn to support one

Philosophy of Psychology

Freed Hardeman University Philosophy of Psychology
Introduction
As an occupational therapist, I hope to use a number of different psychological theories. The main
perspective I will use is Behavior Psychology. Most of my therapy techniques will come from Skinner
s theory of operant condition. By using Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA), I can help modify
children s behavior. The second perspective I will use is Neuropsychology. In treating autistic
children, and other people with various disorders, it is important to understand the different brain
chemistry that each has. In most circumstances, a part of the brain is affected that inhibits an aspect of
the child s behavior.
History
Both behavioral psychology and neuropsychology have rich backgrounds. For the purposes of my
philosophy of psychology, I will cover operant condition and Skinner s approach to verbal behavior. I
will also look aspects of neuropsychology such as neuroplasticity and the dimensional systems model.
I will also look at Sensory Integration theory, which combines a number of different perspectives
including behavioral and neuropsychology.
Behavioral Therapy
The father of Behavioral Psychology is Watson. Another iconic psychologist in this aspect is B. F.
Skinner. Skinner s major theory is operant conditioning. Operant behavior is defined as behavior
controlled by its consequences (Staddon Cerutti, 2003). Operant behavior also uses reinforcement

There s No Race on the Playing Field At the elite level of sports the ability of the person playing no
matter the sport or the position is what is in question day to day and game to game. However, ability
to play the position and being athletic and playing the position are not to be confused. The ability to
play a position will allow a player to play a sport for as long as the athlete can play and feel capable of

The TV industry has changed a great deal. The sport programming and the overall coverage of games
has truly set a new standard for everyone who plays and loves sports. The cameras now are showing
HD images even. The direction of professional sports has been dramatically effected by broadcast
media. Howeve, their interpretations, creation of drama and their ability to establish certain ideas for
other people about what happens in sports can not be denied. (Brown, S.P) Such was the case for
Donovan McNabb and Redskins coach Mike Shanahan after Shanahan pulled McNabb off the field
and replaced him with a white Quarterback in the final two minutes of a game against the Detroit
Lions.
As the coach, Shanahan is expected to make decisions and do what needs to be done in order to win
games. Decisions such as when to pull a player off the field and replace him with someone else
definitely fall into this category. As a starting quarterback McNabb is suppose to be capable of doing
what needs to be done in order to win games such things would include being in shape, knowing the
teams plays and being capable to execute plays that you are given. This may also include wearing an
arm band with plays listed on them so if you have questions of which plays are called you can check
them for accuracy. McNabb had been brought to the Redskins so they would have a chance as a
winning team.

Implicit Stereotypes Essay
Inferring from prior research, it is widely concluded that implicit stereotypes are well learned
associations believed to be stable, activated prior to conscious processing thus relatively
uncontrollable and unchangeable, and eventually exercising a significant influence over cognition and
behavior. People can only engage in nonprejudicial behavior when they are motivated and are able to
suppress their stereotypic beliefs in situations where they are activated. As such, Blair et al. (2001)
proceeded in a direction that questioned these longstanding assumptions: Implicit stereotypes are not
only amenable to change, but they are also equally influenced by explicit cognitions (in this study,

Persuasive Essay On Net Neutrality
The 21st century has ushered in a digital age of widespread internet usage, one in which millions of
United States citizens rely on the web for information and connection. Knowledge that would have
taken our ancestors months of ocean voyages to barely scratch the surface of is now accessible
through a few clicks and keystrokes on any multimedia device. With that said, managing and
regulating the convoluted system of wires, satellite transmissions, and network infrastructures that
constitutes broadband technology is quite a complex and fascinating procedure. This paper will focus
on and analyze an aspect of this regulatory procedure entitled net neutrality, which has been a heated
topic of debate among policy makers and internet users over the past decade. It will begin by
highlighting all the players interwoven in this multifaceted phenomenon, and then argue for why net
neutrality regulations are unnecessary in today s media environment. Overall, net neutrality
regulations are unnecessary because they congest internet traffic, are inefficient for the consumers,
and ultimately benefit giant media corporations and the government, which work closely together
through lobbying. The concept behind net neutrality is that every single piece of content on the
internet must be treated the same, that Internet service providers(ISPs) cannot expedite certain
websites or servers even if the content provider is willing to pay more. This act is governed by the

The Opera Rigoletto At The Metropolitan Opera
The opera Rigoletto at the Metropolitan Opera was conducted by Pablo Heras Casado. The three
principal singers were Piotr Beczala as the Duke, Zeljko Lucic as Rigoletto and Olga Peretyatko as
Gilda. This being my first opera, I was surprised by how large and grandiose the house was, which is
in sharp contrast to my typical experience when I see musicals. The production decided to place a
modern twist on the setting of the opera, rather than the original setting of 16th century Italy, the story
is placed in Las Vegas in the 20th century. The set is constructed to reflect that in the first act with a
casino scene complete with neon lights, card tables and roulette. In my opinion, this all seemed to
distract the viewer from the story and the change in setting didn t enhance the production itself. Rather
it made me think about how out of place this all was instead of focusing on the opera itself. The first
act was fairly difficult for me to suspend disbelief and get into the plot of the opera. This had much to
do with me being initially turned off by the casino as the setting for this opera. Although in later acts I
was able to move past the modern set that was only because this set became less pronounced in the
second and third acts.

the multitude so united in one person is called a Commonwealth; in Latin, Civitas. This is the
generation of that great Leviathan, or rather, to speak more reverently, of that mortal god to which we
owe, under the immortal God, our peace and defence. For by this authority, given him by every
particular man in the Commonwealth, he hath the use of so much power and strength conferred on
him that, by terror thereof, he is enabled to form the wills of them all, to peace at home, and mutual
aid against their enemies abroad. And in him consisteth the essence of the Commonwealth; which, to
define it, is: one person, of whose acts a great multitude, by mutual covenants one with another, have
made themselves every one the author, to the end he may use the strength and means of them all as he

Shell Oil in Nigeria
Shell Oil in Nigeria
1. What are some of the factors explaining why corruption and bribery are so high in Nigeria? Nigeria
is considered to be one of the most corrupt countries in the world. Many different forms of corruption
are familiar to Nigeria including political corruption, bureaucratic corruption, electoral corruption,
embezzlement, and bribery. Corruption has even been said to be a viable enterprise in Nigeria due to
the involvement of citizens, government officials, and private corporations alike. Two main factors
help explain why corruption and bribery are so high in Nigeria, these factors include Nigeria s
complete dependence on the petroleum industry and profit focused companies taking advantage of a

It ignited world wide protests and criticisms of the industry. Financially Shell was not burdened by the
lawsuit, but the light that was shed on what was going on would ultimately cause Shell increase
investment to the community. Today Shell makes efforts to contribute to small businesses and
education in Nigeria.
3. Was Shell taking advantage of weak local regulation?
Shell was taking advantage of weak local regulation and using third party companies to funnel bribes
to the Nigerian government. These bribes bought them many sources of preferential treatment
including using government manpower to move ships, rigs, workboats, and other equipment
throughout the country. Shell was also able to exploit the military and secured the use of military
aircraft for quick movement of special goods. Bribes also allowed Shell to circumvent visa inspections
and avoid having their employees deported for over staying their visas. Many precautions were taken
to cook the books and hide these bribes in case of an audit. One such precaution included drawing up
fake invoices to create line items on the balance sheet to mask certain bribes. All of these actions taken
by Shell are clear examples of how they took advantage of the weak government. A strong
government with proper checks and balances would be much harder to manipulate. Bribery and other
forms of corruption would be treated harshly in order to deter

Lack Of Discipline For Prosecutorial Consecutors
I. Introduction Prosecutorial misconduct is something that rarely gets brought to the light. Mainly
because prosecutors seldom get punished for their misconduct. Prosecutors are held to a higher moral
standard than the average person because of their knowledge of the law. However, some prosecutors
use this as an excuse to cut corners and think that he or she is untouchable. The job of a prosecutor is
to find justice, but some prosecutors just want to get a conviction every time. Some prosecutors are
willing to do whatever it takes to do so, even if it means breaking the rules.
II. Lack of Discipline for Prosecutors Believe it or not, prosecutorial misconduct is not new, it has
been going on for decades. Carmen Marino was a prosecutor in the Cuyahoga County District
Attorney s Office in Ohio for thirty years; he made many convictions over his career and even got an
award named after him. That was until most of those convictions got overturned because of his
misconduct. For example, failing to disclose key pieces of evidence to defendants before trial,
allowing prosecution witnesses to lie on the stand, and delivering improper closing statements. The
Center for Public Integrity reported that five of Marino s convictions had been overturned by
reviewing courts. One of the most well known cases of Marino s was a case involving someone named
Joseph D Ambrosio who was convicted of murder in 1989 and sentenced to death. D Amborsio filed a
writ of habeas corpus based

Analysis Of Chickamagua By Ambrose Bierce
In the short story Chickamagua written by Ambrose Bierce, the author follows a young six year old
boy with no name and a hearing and speech impediment s journey throughout the mist of an ongoing
dreadful war. Ambrose describes and narrates the story in an omniscient third person view, which is
important to note because he is partially influenced by his own experiences of war; specially the Civil
War. The central idea and theme being portrayed in this story is how the destruction and chaos of war
destroys this young adolescence s innocence by being introduced to war first hand. To characterize
and depict this, Ambrose uses literary elements such as imagery and symbolism to further his points.
He really wants to drive home how this boy s romanticism for war can be turned upside down,
especially when directly affected by war. Ambrose puts the boy s disconnection with reality into
perspective by initially describing him as a child [who] strayed away from its rude home in a small
field and entered a forest unobserved and as someone who in bodies his ancestors thirst for discovery
and conquest , alluding to the fact that he is carelessly determined to explore (405). This irresponsible
and carefree attitude sets the tone for how the boy responds to war first hand. As the story progresses
further, the boy ends up falling asleep in the woods and later wakes up too an army marching forward
towards battle. The boy naively sees this as a game and joins in, only to experience the

Georgia O Keeffe Essay
Georgia O Keeffe
The meaning of a word to me is not as exact as the meaning of a color. Colors and shapes make a
more definite statement than words. I write this because such odd things have been done about me
with words. I have often been told what to paint. I am often amazed at the spoken and written word
telling me what I have painted. I make this effort because no one else can know how my paintings
happen. Where I was born and where and how I have lived is unimportant. It is what I have done with
where I have been that should be of interest.
Georgia O Keeffe
Georgia O Keeffe is one of the most influential artists there is today. Her works are valued highly and
are quite beautiful and unique. As a prominent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The size of the bloom relative to a human really reflected the relative importance of nature and
mankind in the artist s eyes. Georgia O Keeffe painted everything from lilies, jonquils, daisies, irises,
sweet peas, morning glories, poppies, forget me nots, marigolds, poinsettias, orchids, sunflowers,
petunias, marigolds, and many more were reborn in her paintings. O Keeffe wasn t happy because
people looked at her paintings and tried to see them in the way of a female. She said, Well I made you
take time to look at what I saw and when you took time to really notice my flower you hung all your
own associations with flowers on my flower and you write about my flower as if I think and see what
you think and see of the flower and I don t. She did not like the idea that people thought she painted
the way she did because she was a female. She painted that way because that was how she saw things.
The flowers that she created epitomize her growth, success, magnetism, and energy at that certain
stage in her career. Her choice to paint these flowers was influenced by her early training, natural
attraction to flowers, and the idea of something fresh and fragile.
Close observations of O Keeffe s flowers show that she never really pursued the realistic approach.
She didn t paint every petal and detail. Instead she gave her flowers a life of their own, and expression
that changed significantly

  • 4. Research Paper On Heat Stroke Heat exhaustion is one of three heat related illnesses. It is the second most serious of these illnesses, with heat cramps being the mildest, and heat strokes being the most serious. Heat exhaustion usually occurs when someone is exposed to high temperatures and becomes dehydrated. When experiencing high temperatures, the body sweat in order to cool itself off. If it has to do this for long periods at a time, it will lose large amounts of fluids and eventually become dehydrated. There are many signs that precede heat exhaustion. These are similar to those of a heat stroke, but slightly less severe. The signs include nausea, dizziness, vomiting, muscle cramps, feeling faint or fatigued, and heavy sweating. Some people are more likely to experience heat exhaustion than others. This is because of certain conditions that worsen the effects or make them more likely. One of these conditions is diabetes. One of the main reasons for this is because hot temperatures can increase or decrease blood sugar levels, causing hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia. This would worsen or even cause symptoms to start occurring. If someone goes experiences heat exhaustion, it is important to get help right away. • 9. Augustus Caesar Biography Augustus Caesar (63 BCE 14 CE) was the name of the first and, by all accounts, greatest emperor of Rome. Augustus was born Gaius Octavius Thurinus on September 23, 63 BCE. He was adopted by his great uncle Julius Caesar in 44 BCE, and then took the name Gaius Julius Caesar. Originally called Gaius Octavius, he changed his name to Gaius Julius Caesar Octavian, upon being adopted by his great uncle. Seventeen years later, the Senate awarded him with the name Augustus, meaning Revered One. Augustus came from a prosperous family that had long been settled at Velletri, southeast of Rome. Augustus married three times, although his first union, to Mark Antony s stepdaughter Clodia Pulchra, was unconsummated. His second wife, Scribonia, who had his only child, Julia the Elder. The family tree became more complicated after Augustus had his stepson Tiberius briefly marry his daughter, and then adopted Tiberius outright as son and successor in A.D. 4. Augustus Caesar died in A.D. 14, his empire secured and at peace. His reported last words were twofold: to his subjects he said, I found Rome of clay; I leave it to you of marble, but to the friends who had stayed with him in his rise to power he added, Have I played the part well? • 10. Essay on Satire in Canterbury Tales The aim of any true satirical work is to poke fun at a certain aspect of society, while also inspiring reform to that very same aspect in one way or another. In Chaucer s Canterbury Tales, Chaucer satirizes the Medieval Church and those associated with the church. Medieval society was centered largely around the Church. Ideally, the people were expected to understand that earthly possessions were meaningless when compared to the prospect of closeness with God. Man was expected to work until he died, at which time he would receive eternal salvation. This eternal salvation was achieved by obeying God s commandments. This theory, however, was becoming progressively corrupted as hypocrisy began to pollute the Church, particularly at the higher ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Chaucer makes it quite clear to the reader that these men boast about the high morals of the Church, and then proceed to live in stark contrast to nearly every one of these morals. One example is how the Church preaches a solemn vow of chastity. Nevertheless, Chaucer tells of how the Friar had fixed up many a marriage, giving each/ Of his young women what he could afford her. Therefore, the Friar would find husbands for the women that he had previously seduced but then lost interest in. Another aspect of the Church that these holy men prove inconsistent is the vow of simple living. The Monk lives a rather lavish lifestyle, as Chaucer tells, The Rule of good St. Benet or St. Maur/ As old and strict he tended to ignore;/ He let go by the things of yesterday/ And took the modern world s more spacious way. The monk enjoyed the comforts of good living, with fur lined clothing, a fine horse, and first class meals. Likewise, the Friar enjoyed fine clothing, as Chaucer says, Not then appearing as your cloistered scholar/ With threadbare habit hardly worth a dollar,/ But much more like a Doctor or a Pope. These elegant lifestyles are clearly in opposition to the teachings of the Church on simplistic living. Finally, the Pardoner preaches on behalf of the Church against greed and avarice, however he is very greedy himself. In his tale, the Pardoner tells an excellent tale denouncing greed and showing how greed leads to a person s downfall, yet the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In her childhood and adolescence, she did not finish her homework or chores and did not attend school; even after becoming an adult, she stayed in her house, completely depending on her parents for everything. Her appearance, however, was very charming. She had beautiful golden hair that landed softly on her back and bluish emerald eyes that glowed when reflected on sunlight. She always wore a black one piece as if attending a funeral, and anyone who had seen her would say that they had a good first impression of her. After Paresse s parents whom she was wholly relying on died, the young woman became homeless and impoverished, since she did not have any inheritance from her parents. Although she was struggling in poverty, Paresse remained idle and did not even think about getting a job or a house. One day, Paresse was wandering around her neighborhood, hoping to find some food to eat. Her charming appearance had disappeared: her smooth golden hair became rough and dirty, and her beautiful emerald eyes seemed to turn into a dull khaki color, due to her stained face. Her black one piece had turned into a chunk of ragged fabric, and she had blisters on her feet since she wore no shoes. As she walked aimlessly, she inadvertently arrived at a gargantuan forest called The Dark Forest. There was a rumor about a prophet who lived inside the forest and made anyone s wish come true. ... • 12. The Spirit World Essay This weeks reading continues with the theme of the of the Spirit world, with a specific interest in angels and demons. The text begins by stating quite plainly that one cannot deny the existence of angels under the authority of scripture. Yet, within this topic there seems to be an air of mysticism and pleasantries around these beings. In other words, when discussing this topic it is rather important to get away from the thought that we have an angel on one shoulder and a demon on the other. However, this is about as far an understanding as a majority of common culture has allowed. All the while, scripture is plain, angels do indeed exist throughout the whole new and old testament, from Genesis to Revelation. The text then transitions from the existence of angelic beings to the biblical description of them. The first characteristic that Ryrie mentions is the state of Angels as created beings as apposed to beings that create. This simply means that angels were created by God and they ... Satan is a created being, he is not creator. He is not on an equal platform in power as God. This means that he possesses limitations to his power. For God alone holds the power of omnipotence, omnipresence, and omniscience. Though he is a mighty being he is still not as powerful as his creator. • 13. Education In Public Education Education has undergone many rhetorical and definitional changes since its creation; the explicit purpose of teaching the masses, particularly in the framework of public schooling, has varied from culture to culture. At its core, though, the aim is simple: to efficiently construct productive members of a society. This effort has to encompass so much of the values of said societies that it becomes impossible for educational institutions to avoid the influence of larger institutions. Within these constraints comes the effect of social reproduction. This institutional byproduct of education rooted in societal values guarantees that students who come from lower income backgrounds are fated to experience this existence as adults, whereas students from higher income families have the advantages to follow in the footsteps of their parents. Without deeply studying and working to reverse social reproduction, our current educational system is the story of history repeating itself. In the humble beginnings for early American understandings, public education was designed to create productive citizens in part by mollifying any potential class conflicts. According to Horace Mann s conceptions of public schooling for the country, providing a uniform education meant providing equal opportunity for all. If the lower class thought that their students had the opportunity to succeed like the rich did, they would be much less likely to rebel against the systems currently in place (Brick 2005). ... • 14. Reflection Of The Fight On Human Rights And Reproductive... I first really recognized the fight for social justice on June 25, 2013. This was the day Wendy Davis defended reproductive rights at the Texas Capitol for 13 hours. I grew up in a politically active climate, but watching a livestream of the Texas Legislature that night had more of an effect on me than anything I had done or witnessed before. I am interested in the Bridging Disciplines Program s Human Rights and Social Justice certificate because from that night on I have become aware of the incredible amount of injustice in the world. For a little while, I wanted to be a public official like Wendy Davis. However, after I started taking classes at UT, I immediately became interested in court cases. Especially, I loved the class Supreme Court and Public Policy. It struck me that most human rights victories came from the courts rather than the legislature. Just three years after the filibuster, this proved true to me yet again when the Supreme Court declared unconstitutional the law Wendy Davis had attempted to block. The Senators and by extension the Texas voters couldn t stop this injustice, but the courts did. By completing this certificate, I hope to learn about different human rights movements from across the world. I will look to answer why certain movements succeeded and certain movements have failed or are still in progress. This essay will begin with explaining Blake s concept of innocence and experience . Firstly, William Blake perceives innocence and experience as contrasting states of the soul. As a result, the narrators are examples of his understanding through their accounts of their life. In The Chimney Sweeper (1789), William Blake wrote: And so Tom awoke and we rose in the dark And got with our bags brushes to work Tho the morning was cold, Tom was happy Warm, So if all do their duty, they need not fear harm. (Blake, Lines 21 24). The boy and Tom Dacre are innocent through their optimism in their hopes despite their harsh reality. The essence of Blake s understanding of innocence is the ability to be joyful and celebratory with hope. In contrast, the narrator in The Chimney Sweeper (1794) knows that there is no hero or escape from the life of a Chimney Sweep. Essentially showing experience as the acceptance of the present reality as the only reality. On top of that, William Blake s concepts of experience can be further explained through the imagery used by the narrator in The Chimney Sweeper (1794). In The Chimney Sweeper (1794), William Blake writes: And because i am happy, dance sing, They think they have done me no injury: And are gone to praise God his Priest King Who make up a heaven of our misery. ( Lines 9 12). The boy shows a full understanding of the hopelessness in his situation without interruption from dreams or thoughts of being saved. He thoroughly explains the misuse of power in authority in his situation. However, Tom Dacre vividly describes his friend s dream in two stanzas. The children in The Chimney Sweeper (1789) do not fully comprehend the harsh reality of chimney sweeps and instead clings to the ideas of hope. William Blake illustrates his concepts through highlighting the hypocrisy during the 1700s. The life of a chimney sweeper was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the end of the play, appearances play a crucial role in the Battle of Shrewsbury as King Henry s side dresses up numerous soldiers in the king s robes to deceive their opponents. Douglas cannot even discern who the real King Henry is and thinks that he s killed the king when he s actually slain Sir Walter Blunt. When children imitate others they develop a vocabulary which allows them to name the world around them. This relates to dolls because if a child is given a doll which moves and does things around a doll house like cleaning, a child will imitate that around the house and act like a house wife like the doll. The main perspective I will use is Behavior Psychology. Most of my therapy techniques will come from Skinner s theory of operant condition. By using Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA), I can help modify children s behavior. The second perspective I will use is Neuropsychology. In treating autistic children, and other people with various disorders, it is important to understand the different brain chemistry that each has. In most circumstances, a part of the brain is affected that inhibits an aspect of the child s behavior. History Both behavioral psychology and neuropsychology have rich backgrounds. For the purposes of my philosophy of psychology, I will cover operant condition and Skinner s approach to verbal behavior. I will also look aspects of neuropsychology such as neuroplasticity and the dimensional systems model. I will also look at Sensory Integration theory, which combines a number of different perspectives including behavioral and neuropsychology. Behavioral Therapy The father of Behavioral Psychology is Watson. Another iconic psychologist in this aspect is B. F. Skinner. Skinner s major theory is operant conditioning. It will begin by highlighting all the players interwoven in this multifaceted phenomenon, and then argue for why net neutrality regulations are unnecessary in today s media environment. Overall, net neutrality regulations are unnecessary because they congest internet traffic, are inefficient for the consumers, and ultimately benefit giant media corporations and the government, which work closely together through lobbying. For by this authority, given him by every particular man in the Commonwealth, he hath the use of so much power and strength conferred on him that, by terror thereof, he is enabled to form the wills of them all, to peace at home, and mutual aid against their enemies abroad. And in him consisteth the essence of the Commonwealth; which, to define it, is: one person, of whose acts a great multitude, by mutual covenants one with another, have made themselves every one the author, to the end he may use the strength and means of them all as he shall think ... Corruption has even been said to be a viable enterprise in Nigeria due to the involvement of citizens, government officials, and private corporations alike. Financially Shell was not burdened by the lawsuit, but the light that was shed on what was going on would ultimately cause Shell increase investment to the community. Today Shell makes efforts to contribute to small businesses and education in Nigeria. 3. Was Shell taking advantage of weak local regulation? Shell was taking advantage of weak local regulation and using third party companies to funnel bribes to the Nigerian government. These bribes bought them many sources of preferential treatment including using government manpower to move ships, rigs, workboats, and other equipment throughout the country. Shell was also able to exploit the military and secured the use of military aircraft for quick movement of special goods. Bribes also allowed Shell to circumvent visa inspections and avoid having their employees deported for over staying their visas. Many precautions were taken to cook the books and hide these bribes in case of an audit. One such precaution included drawing up fake invoices to create line items on the balance sheet to mask certain bribes. All of these actions taken by Shell are clear examples of how they took advantage of the weak government. A strong government with proper checks and balances would be much harder to manipulate. Bribery and other forms of corruption would be treated harshly in order to deter ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Lack Of Discipline For Prosecutorial Consecutors I. Introduction Prosecutorial misconduct is something that rarely gets brought to the light. Mainly because prosecutors seldom get punished for their misconduct. Prosecutors are held to a higher moral standard than the average person because of their knowledge of the law. However, some prosecutors use this as an excuse to cut corners and think that he or she is untouchable. The job of a prosecutor is to find justice, but some prosecutors just want to get a conviction every time. Some prosecutors are willing to do whatever it takes to do so, even if it means breaking the rules. II. Lack of Discipline for Prosecutors Believe it or not, prosecutorial misconduct is not new, it has been going on for decades. Carmen Marino was a prosecutor in the Cuyahoga County District Attorney s Office in Ohio for thirty years; he made many convictions over his career and even got an award named after him. That was until most of those convictions got overturned because of his misconduct. For example, failing to disclose key pieces of evidence to defendants before trial, allowing prosecution witnesses to lie on the stand, and delivering improper closing statements. The Center for Public Integrity reported that five of Marino s convictions had been overturned by reviewing courts. One of the most well known cases of Marino s was a case involving someone named Joseph D Ambrosio who was convicted of murder in 1989 and sentenced to death. D Amborsio filed a writ of habeas corpus based ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Analysis Of Chickamagua By Ambrose Bierce In the short story Chickamagua written by Ambrose Bierce, the author follows a young six year old boy with no name and a hearing and speech impediment s journey throughout the mist of an ongoing dreadful war. Ambrose describes and narrates the story in an omniscient third person view, which is important to note because he is partially influenced by his own experiences of war; specially the Civil War. The central idea and theme being portrayed in this story is how the destruction and chaos of war destroys this young adolescence s innocence by being introduced to war first hand. To characterize and depict this, Ambrose uses literary elements such as imagery and symbolism to further his points. He really wants to drive home how this boy s romanticism for war can be turned upside down, especially when directly affected by war. Ambrose puts the boy s disconnection with reality into perspective by initially describing him as a child [who] strayed away from its rude home in a small field and entered a forest unobserved and as someone who in bodies his ancestors thirst for discovery and conquest , alluding to the fact that he is carelessly determined to explore (405). This irresponsible and carefree attitude sets the tone for how the boy responds to war first hand. As the story progresses further, the boy ends up falling asleep in the woods and later wakes up too an army marching forward towards battle. The boy naively sees this as a game and joins in, only to experience the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Georgia O Keeffe Essay Georgia O Keeffe The meaning of a word to me is not as exact as the meaning of a color. Colors and shapes make a more definite statement than words. I write this because such odd things have been done about me with words. I have often been told what to paint. I am often amazed at the spoken and written word telling me what I have painted. I make this effort because no one else can know how my paintings happen. Where I was born and where and how I have lived is unimportant. It is what I have done with where I have been that should be of interest. Georgia O Keeffe Georgia O Keeffe is one of the most influential artists there is today. Her works are valued highly and are quite beautiful and unique. As a prominent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The size of the bloom relative to a human really reflected the relative importance of nature and mankind in the artist s eyes. Georgia O Keeffe painted everything from lilies, jonquils, daisies, irises, sweet peas, morning glories, poppies, forget me nots, marigolds, poinsettias, orchids, sunflowers, petunias, marigolds, and many more were reborn in her paintings. O Keeffe wasn t happy because people looked at her paintings and tried to see them in the way of a female. She said, Well I made you take time to look at what I saw and when you took time to really notice my flower you hung all your own associations with flowers on my flower and you write about my flower as if I think and see what you think and see of the flower and I don t. She did not like the idea that people thought she painted the way she did because she was a female. She painted that way because that was how she saw things. The flowers that she created epitomize her growth, success, magnetism, and energy at that certain stage in her career. Her choice to paint these flowers was influenced by her early training, natural attraction to flowers, and the idea of something fresh and fragile. Close observations of O Keeffe s flowers show that she never really pursued the realistic approach. She didn t paint every petal and detail. Instead she gave her flowers a life of their own, and expression that changed significantly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
