Causes Of Birth Defects
Causes of Birth Defects
Every day a baby is born with a birth defect, and these defects range from minor abnormalities that
need no treatment, to severe defects that may need surgery, need medication, or even cause
disabilities. Caused by environmental influences or inheritance, a birth defect is a biochemical or
physical abnormality present at birth. Around 4,000 birth defects have been discovered throughout
the years and each year 1 out of 33 babies are born with a defect ( Gupta ). What mothers do while
pregnant can be a major factor that causes a birth defect. The most common causes of birth defects
include smoking, alcohol use, and recreational drug use while pregnant.
Smoking during pregnancy is one of the most common causes of birth defects in babies. If a mother
is smoking during her pregnancy the fetus is also experiencing the effects smoking can cause. On
average twenty percent of women smoke during their pregnancies causing 1,000 baby deaths each
year in the United States ( Smoking During Pregnancy ). Smoking during pregnancy accounts for
thirty percent of babies born underweight, fourteen percent of premature labors, and ten percent of
all infant deaths ( Smoking During Pregnancy ). The placenta connects from the uterus to the
developing fetus, giving the baby the nutrients and oxygen it needs to grow. When a mother inhales
the poisonous gases from the cigarette, they travel into the mother s blood stream and through the
placenta into the fetus. While this

Media Influence On Sports
For the past years the media has had a big effect on society. Many people rely on the media for
news or sports coverage but they don t realize that the media may influence people s beliefs or
way of behaving. The media covers sports in order to provide information to the fans but they
also can create fake news to spark controversy in sports. The world of sports is largely affected
by the media as they are a big topic to talk about throughout all kinds of media. Although the media
can provide information of sports to fans, it can also create positive and negative conditions for the
athletes. The media s portrayal of sports creates rivalries between teams and players which
increases competitiveness, damages professional relationships, and... Show more content on

Sometimes a rivalry can become intensely heated and it may become violent. In the sport of
soccer one of the most anticipated matches of the year is none other than Real Madrid vs
Barcelona. These two teams are great teams and are the sport s biggest rivals. Before the match
is played the media heats up the rivalry by reporting that the one team is trash talking or
undervaluing the other team. At first it is taken lightly as just a publicity stunt but when the
players overhear the news, they get over competitive. When the match is being played there is
always physical fights between players and it gets out of hand. Not one of these rival matches
has passed that a player doesn t get ejected from the game. In conclusion, this proves how the
media plays a large role on the player s mentality when going into the game and can also cause
them to behave in certain ways. It is well known that the media is capable of spreading false
rumors in order to spark controversy or to get more views. The world of sports can also be
affected by the spreading of false rumors. The relationships between athletes may be torn by the
media when they spread fake news regarding players. Sometimes athletes overhear stories about
what other athletes say and they might not agree with what they said so any kind of respect that
they had for each other before is now gone. Take, for example, when news began to circulate the
web that professional

Politics Is The Practice And Theory Of Power And Resources...
Politics (from Greek: ПЂОїО»О№П„О№ОєПЊП‚ politikos, definition of, for, or relating to
citizens ) is the practice and theory of influencing other people. Politics involves the making of a
common decision for a group of people, that is, a uniform decision applying in the same way to all
members of the group. It also involves the use of power by one person to affect the behavior of
another person. More narrowly, it refers to achieving and exercising positions of governance
organized control over a human community, particularly a state. Furthermore, politicsis the study or
practice of the distribution of power and resources within a given community (a usually
hierarchically organized population) as well as the interrelationship(s) between... Show more

Formal Politics refers to the operation of a constitutional system of government and publicly
defined institutions and procedures.[1] Political parties, public policy or discussions about war and
foreign affairs would fall under the category of Formal Politics.[1] Many people view formal
politics as something outside of themselves, but that can still affect their daily lives.[1]
Informal Politics is understood as forming alliances, exercising power and protecting and
advancing particular ideas or goals. Generally, this includes anything affecting one s daily life,
such as the way an office or household is managed, or how one person or group exercises
influence over another.[1] Informal Politics is typically understood as everyday politics, hence the
idea that politics is everywhere .[1]

What Was Thomas Jefferson A Success Or Failure
Leo Mayora
Mrs.Stanton Per 4 US History
Common Core Essay
27 November, 2017
Thomas Jefferson is widely recognized as one of the great heroes of American history. Even
Jefferson himself was aware of his historical importance, and to help define his legacy, he wrote his
own epitaph. On his tombstone, he wanted written Here was buried Thomas Jefferson Author of the
Declaration of American Independence, of the Statute of Virginia for religious freedom, Father of
the University of Virginia. Interestingly enough, he did not include the purchase of the Louisiana
Territory. Why would Jefferson fail to include the most important land acquisition in U.S. history as
among his greatest accomplishments? As president, he authorized this purchase, ultimately
considered one of the greatest real estate deals ever made. A mere $15 million dollars doubled the
size of the United States, acquiring economic resources, strategic advantages, and political power. It
also removed obstacles to westward expansion, setting the nation on the road to become a
continental power. Why would Jefferson not recognize this as a significant personal
accomplishment? Did he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There was not specific language in the Constitution that authorized the government to make such
acquisitions of foreign territory, so many people viewed Jefferson s actions as unconstitutional.
They also viewed it as hypocritical, given his previously strict constructionist stance and heavy
criticism of others for stepping beyond the bounds of the Constitution. Jefferson made many
attempts to validate the authorization, arguing, for instance, that What is practicable must often
control what is pure theory. He meant that the practical benefits of the purchase were more
important than his own personal constitutional beliefs. Certainly, although controversial, the
purchase of Louisiana allowed the United States to flourish in ways that one could not have

The Grizzly Bear Lodge Mini Case Owning and operating a lodge can be a lot of work, but
rewarding at the same time. Customers come to a lodge to relax and get away from their daily
routine. When staying the night away from home, it is important to the customer that the staff at
the lodge makes their stay as comfortable as possible. In this case The Grizzly Bear Lodge will
be examined. It will look at the service they provide in addition to their expansion opportunities.
The Grizzly Bear Lodge is family owned. According to the textbook, Management: Leading and

Everyone who works for them will know the rules to follow. They will understand that customers
are their top priority. Concurrent control will also help ensure customer satisfaction. Concurrent
control takes place as the plans are being carried out (Snell 572). Diane and Rudy will be able to
supervise their staff so that they can make sure they are working to the best of their ability. This
will allow them to see firsthand how they are treating their customers. Concurrent control focuses
on avoiding mistakes and seeing that the customers are adhered to in a timely manner. The last
bureaucratic control method that the textbook discusses is feedback control. Feedback control is
when the customers provide information about their experience to the company. The Grizzly
Bear Lodge would benefit from using feedback because it would come directly from their
customers. Based on what the feedback states, the lodge could make necessary adjustments.
Feedback does not always have to be negative either. Customers could leave positive feedback so
that they know what they should keep doing to keep customers satisfied. Budgeting is a big part
of expansion. In order to expand, the current business should be successful. In the case of The
Grizzly Bear Lodge, they are. In addition to success, however, the Conrad s must have enough
funding for the expansion. The Conrad s must look at the bottom line for their lodge. The bottom

Greek Hazing Research Paper
Hazing in the Greek Life
Life flipped upside down for Tucker Hipps when he did not have enough money to buy breakfast
for his fraternity brothers one morning. September 22, 2014 Tucker Hipps was found dead after a
fraternity run. Not only was this a traumatic experience for the campus of Clemson University, this
devastating news hit my families heart s real hard. Tucker was apart of the Sigma Phi Epsilon ,and
he was participating in an early morning group activity when things went bad. Tucker was last seen
at the bridge, and it was reported he missed breakfast( WSPA staff). With investigations still going

The consequences for committing hazing in the Greek life can be life changing. Seen on a
webpage of anti hazing laws, the South Carolina law for consequences for hazing states, Once an
investigation has been closed with evidence of people committing the act, the student can be
dismissed, expelled, suspended, or punished by the schools president... (South Carolina).
Depending on the seriousness of the event practiced and the leniency of the school, the school
that the people commit hazing at can handle the situations differently. Also, the repercussions of
hazing are going to be different for the student committing hazing and the student being hazed.
This is important to think about when hanging out with your fraternity or sorority because tragic
events to one another can be prevented. Peyton Arnett is a high school student ready to take on
Greek life when she goes to college. Peyton states, When headed to my sorority, I have to pay a
heavy fee to be apart of this group. I am terrified of the risk factor of hazing because I could get
caught up into the acts. Then not only am I paying for my dues to be in the sisterhood but I would
be paying for a lawyer to help me (Arnett). This statement turns into reality for many students at

Invencibility Systems Case Study Essay
Case Study Invencibility Systems
1 Besides the factors identified, what other factors should invincibility systems take into account in
its HR planning?
At the moment Invencibility Systems has performed a very unique work on internal research,
which has given a chance to its decision making managers to discover very individual aspects of
the company. The firm s research has looked at factors such as health phase out plan, marital status,
age of employee, years at the company and job category to predict the future turnover rate and
therefore forecast their hiring levels.
In addition to these factors, the company must also take into consideration sales numbers such as
current sales as well as projected future sales growth as they ... Show more content on

In addition, government programs of granting working visas to foreign highly skilled students, as
well as technological investments and incentives also affect labor force supply.
In short, the firm must find a balance when planning the HR. It has to look at internal factors and
projections such as future sales and costs which help them predict demand and consequently
forecast the workforce needed. But at the same time it has to look at external factors to predict labor
supply and the external factors are found in the environment around the company.
2 What legal concerns does the data analysis at invincibility raise? How should the company
address those issues?
From the information provided in the case we could notice that Invencibility System has used
internal information to predict what specific employees are leaving the company. However, the
firm has not created an incentive or reward program based on the data acquired in the research, for
trying to maintain these employees inside of the company or even motivate them to stay as a part
of the Invencibility systems group.
The fact that the firm uses internal data to predict who will or will not leave the company in the
following year but in contrast lacks a program to fulfill the self esteem as well as the psychological
concerns of its employees is a major area of legal concern.
The only way the company can fix

The Election Of The Uk
In this essay, I will discuss whether elections in the UK are fair. The viewpoint which I will be
arguing for is viewpoint two: we need to make some sensible adjustments to elections by, for
example, encouraging people to vote electronically in order to discourage fraud but shouldn t
change much else other than that. I will also evaluate the other viewpoints and why I do not
believe these viewpoints are the key to making UK electionsfairer and more just . As of now, the
UK uses the first past the post system in their elections; this means that the candidate with the most
votes becomes the MP for their constituency.
One sensible adjustment that I believe is necessary is lowering the voting age to 16. Currently, the
voting age is 18. I think this makes elections unfair as young adults are being excluded from
influencing the decision hence making the outcome of the election affect their lives the most. For
example, young adults are massively affected by government education policies, I think they
have a right to choose which candidate best represents their views and gives them the
opportunity to achieve the best future possible. Some people might argue that 16 and 17 year
olds are not responsible enough to make the right decisions in regard to who to elect; a candidate
which would best benefit them in the future . However, some would say that young adults are
unaware of the realm of politics and would not be able to make a suitable decision for the country
as a whole or

Critical Thinking In 12 Angry Men
The 1957 movie version of 12 Angry Men, brings twelve people together with different
personalities and experiences to discuss the fate of a young boy that allegedly killed his father. At
the very beginning, many agree that the boy is guilty except for one man. Juror #8 votes not guilty
and pushes to have the evidence talked through. After reviewing all the evidence carefully, the
tables turned from guilty to not guilty. Each juror brought different experiences and personalities to
the juryroom. The two that were forceful with their opinions and their reasonings to decide either
way we re jurors #8 and #3. According to the book From Critical Thinking to Argument by Sylvan

Juror #3 loses his temper and eventually breaks down and says not guilty. It is not until the end
of the film that the audience fully understands why Juror #3 is hostile and angry. He hinted
earlier in the movie that his son and he got into a fight and his son left. This anger that he shows
through the movie is the anger that he has for his son leaving. Because of this anger, he does not
think critically. He heard the basic facts and made his decision off of that. Without questioning
the evidence, he is quick to form an opinion and defend it despite the other details presented by
the other jurors. He lacks the ability to successfully critically think because he does not analyze
the evidence nor does he present his own arguments skillfully. He only defends his stance based
off of personal pathos which hinders his ability to critically think. Juror #8 was much more
successful with his critical thinking since the beginning of the movie. He was the only one of
the jurors that voted not guilty. He expressed that it s not easy to raise my hand and send a boy
off to die without talking about it first, when he is being pressed by the others as to why he did
not vote guilty. This is the first step he takes to get the others to talk and think about the case. He

Pokemon and the Steel Industry
The steel industry is something that has been evolving and changing for the past 3 centuries in
which the braced metal has been around. As we come into the modern age of mining and metal
production we can find that there have been difficulties in the way of our resources are beginning
to run low, mining is dangerous, we may not have enough fuel to smelt ironin the next century, and
abrasive water cutters are not innovating since their introduction. In the recent wake of these events
an unlikely source has been uncovered to help aid these problems and that source is the math and
physics of pokemon. Pokemon is a franchise of turn based RPG games in which creatures with
many crazy features fight each other for glory. Over the years pokemon has been getting crazy with
what these creatures are based on and some designs and descriptions hold the key to remedying
these problems with the metal industry. Currently, the metal industry, while strong, has many
problems due to the shrinking of natural resources and lack of innovation. the mathematics of
pokemon could lead a revolution in steelproduction because Excadrill design could lead to a more
efficient drill, the heat given off by magmortar is enough to create a new smeltingand improve
process for stronger steel, and the amount of pressure that Blastoise s cannons would be forcing out
can make a already good tool even better.

My Goa Retreat: Finally the dreamy Goa holiday I badly needed!

Indian and international tourists and even though I grew up in Orissa, another Indian paradise with

tropical weather, how could I resist my trip to Goa?
I had heard so much about the Goa water sports so the day I got there for my three day Goa trip,

My husband often takes Goa 2 nights package and Goa 4 nights 5 days with his corporate friends
so I might plan my own list the next time. But this time, we spend our second night in Goa eating
a nice, sumptuous and luxurious lunch at a Goa 4 star resorts beach restaurant. There is absolutely
nothing more romantic than a candle lit delicious meal together in a dimly lit restaurant. I had
been dieting for so long but I ended up eating so much on my trip that I have my cravings satisfied
for almost a year!
I had few monuments like the old churches and some markets decided from the quintessential
Goa 10 places to visit but we the spend our third morning in Goa watching classic films. My
husband is such a movie buff so we watched Pulp Fiction and then had some breakfast in bed.
Our window has the classy beach view as we were staying at a resort near the Calangute so our
room had this perfect view of the beach. It was really the most amazing room in a hotel I have ever

Children In The Romantic Period

Smith1Austin D. SmithENGL 25111 19 17It s a hard knock lifeChildren of the Romantic Period
became more prevalent not only in the politics of society, but also within the poetry, composition,
and political debates of the time period. Such a controversy arose due to society s understanding of
what it meant to be a child of the Romantic Period. Prior to the nineteenth century, children were
viewed as having an identity in correlation to the parents. However, this began to change at the turn
of the Romantic Period with the introduction of more prominent children s literature rising to
popularity within society via the literary and political figures of politicians. The figure of the child
prompted poetry and political debate during the Romantic period. This debate occurred because
society reconsidered what it meant to be a child. Before the nineteenth century, children were
seldom viewed as having an identity separate from adults. Children were viewed as miniature adults
or adults in training. Most children were orphans, but even families with both parents living might

Jesse Prinz s Argument Analysis
Philosophers have always strived to nurture a relationship between moral judgment and emotion.
They often analyze the various concepts put forward with the aim of explaining morality which
would be the best approach to assess the credibility of the arguments for morality. Literature
suggests that relativists hold onto their arguments based on the fact that various cultures tend to
have varying moral belief systems.
According to Jesse Prinz, the origins of our moral inclinations is merely cultural. For centuries,
moral relativism has been recognized as a liberal doctrine that has had significant implications on
the society s way of life, organization, and the perception of others. Prinz lays out an argument in
which he claimed that morals differ ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, relativism informs us that we would be wrong to think that we hold the true form of
morality. Additionally, throughout our lives, we attempt to pursue values that could make us live
fulfilling lives, though we ought to acknowledge that fulfillment is also relative hence there are
no values that could be designed or claimed to be universally fulfilling (p. 20). Realizing that
relativism is real could help everyone individually by demonstrating that our treasured values are
parochial and mutable. We ought to abandon the assumption that others share our beliefs and
acknowledge that our moral values could have been different had we be born or had we lived in
different conditions. In this manner, we will be able to be more flexible, open minded, and tolerant.
However, the three serious shortcoming of the relativist theory makes it unattractive. However, if
we were to have open minds and refrain from arrogance, we could be able to accommodate the
relativist theory without accepting the entire

Alexander The Coliseum
The birth of a coliseum legend
Sweat trickled down his face, he was strong and lean, his long black hair was drenched in sweat.
He was tired and exhausted. He walked around his opponent, circling ready to attack. He tried his
best to ignore the stench of blood, but that was one feat he could not perform. He was almost out
of tricks, his opponent was a better swordsman. All around him the crowd cheered, he was
Alexander.
It all started out a few years ago before the king s men raided small villages, they were taken as
slaves. They were then sent to the coliseum as groups of slaves to fight for entertainment for Rome.

Flood Case Study
Other Factors Contributing to the Flood
The Arun and Sunkosi sub catchments of the upper catchment area contribute to the intensity of
floods, with the former possessing highest surface runoff potential (Wakode et al., 2013). As the
Kosi River exits at the base of the mountain, the ability to transport sediment is dampened, leading
to deposition of sediment and aggradation (Kale, 2008). High silt content in the river was due to
soil erosion and landslides and the presence of narrow gorges (Wakode et al., 2013). The
construction of the eastern embankment increased aggradation on the western side of the river,
making the embankment vulnerable to breaching (Sinha, 2009). Furthermore, Chakraborty et al
(2010) noted that avulsion was more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are more deadly than ordinary floods because they intensify the moment the dams and
embankments experience failures and breaches respectively (Singh and Kumar (2013); Singh and
Kumar, 2017). The high discharge of water from rivers can cause extensive damage to life and
property (Singh Kumar, 2017), both of which include livestock, croplands and public utilities (i.e.
electricity, telephones, and roads) (Singh Kumar, 2013). For instance, a lot of agricultural land was
rendered uncultivable because the flood had transported and deposited excess sediment
(Chakraborty et al., 2010).
Singh and Kumar (2013) noted that millions of people in India are affected by flash floods
yearly. In this regard, it can be deduced that countless people were displaced, many villages were
flooded, and Bihar s infrastructure was compromised (Kale, 2008). While there have been no
reliable estimate of deaths and loss of properties for the flood event, it can be said that more than
30 million people were affected (Sinha, 2009). The 2008 flood was an unprecedented human
misery due to increased population density (Kale, 2008).
Short term Solution Set in Motion
Sometime in January 2009, the breach in the eastern embankment was repaired (Sinha et al., 2013).

being once again confined (Sinha, 2009), as if the flood had never

Mortgage Loans For Those With Bad Credit
Mortgage Loans for Those with Bad Credit
Unfortunately, the fear of being denied has caused some potential homebuyers to not even bother
going through the mortgage application process. The truth is that the vast majority of home
lenders have some strict approval criteria, especially after the financial collapse that took place in
the middle of the last decade. However, there are programs that are available to aspiring
homebuyers with less than stellar credit. Most of these programs still require validation of income,
and in many cases, an explanation of the cause for the low credit score, but they do provide a
viable alternative to traditional mortgages.
Understanding the Process
It is always wise for anyone looking to obtain a loan for the sake of purchasing a home to develop a
lucid perspicacity of the application process. When a person understands the process, they are less
likely to become overwhelmed or intimidated by anything that occurs during the process. A person
s credit score will play a significant role in determining whether they are approved for a mortgage
loan as well as determining the interest rate of the loan.
Although the credit score plays an integral role in the loan process, it is not the only criteria on
which approval is based, meaning that a person or couple with bad credit can still qualify for home
lending with certain lenders.
There may be some unique specifications and requirements to meet; however, the opportunity to

Essay on analysis of She Walks in Beauty
Analysis of Byron s She Walks in Beauty
Lord George Gordon Byron was most notorious for his love affairs within his family and with
Mediterranean boys. Since he had problems such as incest and homosexuality, he did not mind
writing about his love for his cousin in She Walks in Beauty . Byron wrote the poem after he left
his wife and England forever. Byron made his own trend of personality, the idea of the Byronic
Hero . Byron s influence on European poetry, music, novels, operas, and paintings have been
immense, although the poet was widely condemned on moral grounds by his contemporaries (Dick,
54). Overall, the study focuses on the life of Lord George Gordon Byron, imagery, and about the

This attitude of self reliance is a distinguishing characteristic of both Lord Byron and his literary
figures (Parker, 88).
She Walks in Beauty starts off from a traditional picture of a lady as fair and bright. It links with
the brightness of daylight, in its comparison of the mistress to the night. The distinctive quality of
the poem derives not from any departure from the norm but from a graceful elaboration of the
conventions of compliment (Seifter, 82). Avoiding unoriginal or obvious similies, Byron uses
metaphors which expresses the idea of a quiet and slight glow. The mistress like the night/ Of
cloudless climes and starry skies (ll 1 2), not pitch dark but glimmering with a diffused light
(Seifter, 82). She is like a portrait in chiaroscuro , her face is copied through an interaction of light
and shadow.
Bhakta 3
Her hazy beauty makes daylight seem bright. Imagery drawn from painting continues as a poet
discusses the shades, rays, and tints that compose the mistress s particular radiance (Seifter, 82).
The flowing lines, rhymes, and imagery of light and dark give the impression of elegant and simple
compliment.
The poem starts off brilliantly. The first four lines are beautifully phrased, and the opening couplet
in particular has ingrained itself in the collective consciousness (Blair, 1). She walks in beauty, like
the night/ Of cloudless climes and starry skies;/ And all

Differences Between The Blind Side Book And Movie
The movie, The Blind Side directed by John Lee Hancock attempted to mimic the book written
by Michael Lewis as much as possible. However, there were noticeable changes made by the
director that changed the overall appearance of the movie compared to the book. Some significant
changes were made by the director by altering the plot, varying with the themes of the book, and
the characterization of characters. With these altercations made by the director, it helps the movie
move at a faster pace than the book, leaving excess detail behind which result in deviation from the
overall purpose of the chapter, character, plot, and theme. The exclusion of excess detail is what
makes the movie better than the book. The first aspect of the movie that

Overview of the Healthy Food for Healthy School Act Essay
It was lunch time and students walked into the cafeteria to purchase lunch. A wide variety of
food was placed in front of them to choose from ranging from pizza to burgers to bags of chips
and chocolate bars. Their choices were endless up until a new reform took over and enlisted new
changes. The Healthy Food for Healthy SchoolAct was placed on September 1st, 2008. Its policy
entailed schools to practice healthy eating where they would be dropping trans fat from food and
beverages sold in schools and establishing mandatory nutritionstandards for food and beverages
sold in schools (Ontario Ministry of Education). While this reform plays a significant role in the

As stated in Food: How School Food Affects Student Health, where there is a lack of creativity and
motivation to cultivate a healthy and sustainable menu, fast food chains, junk food vendors, and
soda companies rush in to fill the void, offering partnerships with schools that allow them to market
their products in schools (2008). With the new reform in place, schools have been instructed to
follow new guidelines and nutrition programmes to meet the standards of a healthy school. This
required the removal of vending machine sodas, and the reconfiguration of the foods in all school
cafeterias. With this new reform in place, schools have seen various outcomes from this change.
Having the Healthy Food for Healthy School Act means that any links with corporations would
result in minimal interactions and weaken the links they have. This can be seen as both a positive
and negative development. The positive outlook on it is that students will benefit greatly from the
healthy act as they will be encouraged to eat healthy foods and take part in an active and healthy
lifestyle. The downside is that implementing the healthy school act means putting more money
towards this section as healthier foods cost more than non healthy foods. As expenses are taken out
from other accounts, an ongoing increase of educational inequalities continues. Schools have found
themselves caught between the need to promote healthy choices and the need for

Glue In Romeo And Juliet
Glue can be viewed as a sticky mess; however, it is the mold and foundation for the basis of
many things. Glue is a binder for many things including art projects and practical crafts. Much like
how literal glue sticks objects together, metaphoric glue keeps order. For instance, a father is the
glue of a familybecause he is a protector, a money maker, and a lover. In the dramatic play
Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, two families feuds have to keep lovers apart until their
deaths. Their families start to fall apart as the mold holding them together does as well. Young
Juliet ends her life far too early because her father, Lord Capulet, has a wrath that is too much to
put up a fight with. Her father gives her orders that she refuses to take, but unfortunately he does

Harmful Effects Of Machiavellian Advertising
As accessibility to and the advancement of the new media increases, our control over what we
choose to see to decreases exponentially. Although advertisements do not seem to manifest harmful
effects, many advertisers use Machiavellian tactics to sway the opinions of people. Such tactics
include: clickbait, which makes use of targeting the curiosity of viewers to simply clickon a specific
link or video, and data mining, the tracking of recent searches to show advertisements specific to
what the robots claim to be one s interests. These techniques used are implemented to evoke the
specific interests of the consumer, making pure curiosity in control of what the reader is paying
attention to.
Clickbait uses persuasive and absorbing headlines and images to allows readers to quickly
browse through the content on a website and choose what they want to see. However, much of
this content that uses clickbait is false information so advertisers can get the views and shares
they desire. Wu mentions the power of clickbait, the technique that started attentional capture

was promoting their new personalized Nike iD, a customer named Jonah Peretti received an

Fallen Blame By Mary Shelley
Fallen Blame Frankenstein is a Gothic science fiction novel, written by Mary Shelley. Mary
Shelley was born in 1797. Both of Shelleys parents were writers, leading to some of the
background to her writing ability. In 1816, Mary, her husband, Percy, Lord Byron, and two others
met in a retreat in Switzerland. While they were there, they challenged each other to write ghost
stories. Branching off of the odd dare, Frankensteinwas published two years later in 1818. Victor,
the main character, and his thirst for knowledge, lead him to create something that destroyed his
life. In Frankenstein, Victor deserves the blame for the destruction throughout the book because he
irresponsibly created a monster with no plan to follow, he set it free with no supervision or

Brush Fire Analysis
Writer , Linda Thomas, in her essay, Brush Fire, discusses the Santa Ana winds experienced in
Southern California and how it affects the people and the weather. Well known essayist , Joan
Didion, in her essay, The Santa Ana, describes the winds and the effects it has on the way the
people behave. Both Thomas and Didion s essayshave a similar subject and circumstance, the Santa
Ana winds but, both essays vary in numerous ways. The details, tone, and how the message is
being told are ways in which both essays differ. These essays are an example of one topic being
portray through different lights.
In Brush Fire, Thomas begins to convey recollected memories of a day on which she experienced
the Santa Ana winds. She tells the details in chronological order starting from the moment she
woke up and ended in the present tense. Thomas stated, I know this because this morning I awoke
to air so dry that the graze of my nightgown against the down comforter created tiny orange sparks
(Thomas). Thomas ended with a different tense from which she began her essay. She said, We are
here to watch the orange flames color the sunset. (Thomas). She also included details that incite
imagery while talking about the environment of southern California by saying, Chaparral is
gorgeously beautiful from the crooked red brown wood... the sturdy shaft of yucca... with spikes
of creamy blossom, to brilliant orange threads of dodder vine. (Thomas). Didion also uses
imagery but unlike Thomas, Didion conveys the imagery using the future tense. Didion states, ...
we will see smoke back in the canyons, and hear sirens in the night (Didion). The difference in
the way that both essays begin to unfold resonate in the tense that is used. Tone plays an
important role in how the message of each essay is being conveyed. This tone of both essays is
one way in which they differ. Thomas uses a calm, poetic tone whereas Didion uses a more
scientific and intellectual tone. Phrases in which the tone of Thomas text is revealed includes, ... I

Considering the magnitude of the ageing population and socio economic changes around the world,
measures to keep older people healthy and active are of utmost importance. (WHO, 2007). In most
developed countries, population aging is a gradual process and most of the older adults live
independently. Traditionally it was the responsibility of the family to care for older adults. We
find ourselves in a care giving crisis as roles are changing, employment of women taking a major
role, erosion of traditional family values, and an increasing trend for nuclear families. (Dsouza,
2014). The number of older adults living alone is increasing. Older adults are living both in
residential care facilities or nursing homes and most often on their own in communities for the
aged. It is estimated that more than 50% of those living in nursing homes and residential
facilities fall every year and about 50% of these fall repeatedly. (CMS, 2014). The actual
incidence is likely to be even higher, since many falls are not reported. Falls often lead to reduced
functioning, which increases morbidity and mortality. Around 20% of falls need medical attention,
5 10% result in fractures (with one in five of these being a hip fracture), severe head injuries and

superimposed on it. It superimposes details about that particular thing available on internet, some
images and videos and GPS data. As a result, this technology improves the user s ability to see
the real world things by providing all necessary details in front of his eyes to him. The major point
that distinguish Augmented Reality from Virtual Reality is that Virtual Reality completely
overlaps the real world with simulated one while Augmented Reality allows the user to view the
real world with just small alterations to include details of particular things. So, from user s point
of view both real and virtual world would exist at same place. The advance augmented reality
technology can recognise various types of

Contribution Of Indian Nationalism
The Indian independence movement was simply a response to British colonialism and oppression
of the Indian subcontinent inhabitants. Indian nationalism was the most crucial factor of Indian
independence, because it resulted in the swadeshi movement and national heros that joined the
different people of India. Shivaji preceded Mohandas Gandhi, but both were among the first
national heros. Indian national heroes are closely connected to Indian nationalism, but it is
critically important to first understand Indian Nationalism.
Indian nationalism was illustrated by people of Indian independence movement only in an effort to
connect the various races of India. Nationalism can be described as the loyalty and devotion to one
nation. Nationalists tend to exalt a nation, which is a group of people that care commonalities such
as language, religion, traditions, customs, and habits. Nationalism, as exhibited by Indians, could
lead to the desire for national furtherance of a nation or the striving for political independence.
Indian Nationalism was propagated by philosophical anarchists, especially Mohandas Gandhi and
Bhagat Singh. Indian Nationalists were fiercely occupied with creating their own idiosyncratic
form of nationalism. Many Indian nationalists argued for nationalism on the verge of anarchism
like Tagore. Tagore believed that european nationalism was a by product of capitalism , and gave
rise to such evils as colonialism (Tagore 6). Furthermore, Tagore believed that

Essay On How To Protect Us From Ourselves
How To Protect Us From Ourselves
The United States of America is an amazing country, mostly known for the rights that we are given
at birth; however, the United States, a wealthy nation, remains a county that does not provide
universal healthcare to its citizens thus, millions of Americans remain uninsured. Making this a
major issue that needs to be addressed. The one country that prides itself over its outstanding
healthcare system is Canada. According to the 2000 World Health Organization s ratings, Canada
is ranked at 30th and the U.S. 37th among 191 nations who participated in the study. Additionally,
Canadians have a life expectancy of 80 opposed to Americans who have a 78 years. Dr. Krell
reports the disparity of life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If they were to pay for the medical bill out of their own wallet then they d be paying for a
number of things such as the ambulance (if they had called one), the doctor for seeing you,
treatment, medication, lab work, x rays and other such medical procedures. Once the individual is
released from the hospital it is likely that the medically uninsured individual will not continue with
his medical regimen. A recent study had shown that 62% of bankruptcies are caused from high
medical bills. Meaning that our healthcare is expensive thus, not everyone can afford coverage.
Since Canada has a higher life expectancy than America it is thought that Canada s healthcare
plan is better. Dr. Krell reports the disparity of life expectancy may be due to good healthcare.
This study helps us come to a conclusion how healthcare can play a big factor in life expectancy. A
study in April 18 Annals of Internal Medicinecompares the survival rate of patients with cystic
fibrosis in the U.S. and Canada. Their results concluded that the patients in Canada had a 10 year
higher survival rate as opposed to the U.S. patients. It is speculated that the lack of healthcare
coverage or insurance status in the U.S. attributed to the results. However, the study also showed if
a U.S. patient who has private insurance his/hers survival rate is the same as a Canadian s. An

Life Perspectives In Amy Tan s Two Kinds
Life experiences shape and mold us into the people we are today. These experiences form and
create our opinions on everything we see in life. Everything from our family to society heavily
influence our perspectives, whether we realize it or not. Experiences directly make up our
perspectives.
Family members heavily influence our perspectives. From the time we are born our parents begin
teaching us beliefs and values that are right in their eyes. Amy Tan, the author of Two Kinds talks
about how it was living with a strict, traditional mother. In chunk 6, paragraph 67 Amy s mother
states Only two kinds of daughters. She shouted in Chinese. Those who are obedient and those who
follow their own minds! Only one kind of daughter can live in this house. Obedient daughter! Her
mother drilled this idea into her mind, which definitely affected her to a large extent. Her mother s
expectations were too much, and she could never fulfill them. In her mother s eyes she was a
disappointment, and this experience changed her perspective on what s important in a person.
Another example of family influencing our perspectives is shown in An Indian Father s Plea by
Medicine Grizzly Bear. In the personal letter from a father to his son s teacher he expresses his
concerns for his sons education. Pg(99) My son Wind Wolf, is not an empty glass coming into
your class to be filled. He is a full basket coming into a different environment and a society with
something special to share. Please

1-Pentyl Ethanoate Lab Report
Aim To prepare and purify an ester: 1 pentyl ethanoate, using pent 1 ol and ethanoic acid. An
annotated reaction showing this reaction is shown below: Hazards Throughout the practical
investigation, there were a variety of safety precautions implemented. This not only prevented
physical injury, but allowed the efficient progress of the practical investigation in a safe manner.
For instance, pentan 1 ol, the alcohol utilised to synthesis 1 pentyl ethanoate, is relatively
flammable due to the hydroxyl functional group attached to the molecule. Therefore, in order to
prevent severe burns, a laboratory coat and safety glasses were worn. The experiment was
additionally performed whilst standing up, so that if the aliquot of pentan 1 ol ignited,... Show more

At room temperature (25В°C), esterification reactions are relatively slow, therefore requiring the
rate of the chemical reaction to be increased for the products to be formed efficiently. This is
implemented, by using a catalyst, such as concentrated sulphuric acid (H2SO4 (aq)), as well as
by heating the mixture: using a heating mantle. As a result, the energy of the reactants can be
greater than the activation energy, increasing the rate of reaction. Hence, as the reactants are
relatively volatile, so reflux apparatus such as a pear shaped flask and a Liebig condenser were
used, to minimise the amount of reactants lost, as well as allow the reaction to take place at the
highest temperature possible. In addition, boiling chips were added prior to reflux, to prevent
bumping and a decrease a loss of volatile reactants, during the reflux

Physically Abusive Relationships
People who are in abusive relationships intermittently suppress that it is hurting them. Three
years ago, I was one of those people. For a prolonged time I had no notion that I was in an
emotionally abusive relationship with someone, and that it was wrecking my mental health. The
relationship deteriorated me and I was absolutely a changed person at the end of it. I was
disgusted with myself, and nothing made myself cheerful anymore. It took myself a while to
distinguish the distortion of my mood and behavior, and once I did, it was formidable to cut them
loose. I was fourteen, plus I persuaded myself that I loved them. Admitting, I could clearly see that
they were toxic for me, it did not alarm myself. I only wanted to be with them, even if it destroyed
me mentally.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During the time we began talking, they were friendly, compassionate, and loving to me. They
made myself feel special, and like I was worth everything. Eventually the compliments became
rare, and the warm feeling of the relationship was cold. They began to disrespect me, and
everyday I would get informed that I could be skinnier, or that I needed to wear more makeup
because my face isn t pleasing. The insults would bruise me every time, and I just lived with it. I
never aimed to defend myself when they would verbally attack me. I was fearful of damaging
them, and I didn t want them to leave me. Eventually the horrible way I was being treated felt
normal to me, and I did not notice what they were doing to my mental

These two teams are great teams and are the sport s biggest rivals. Before the match is played the media heats up the rivalry by reporting that the one team is trash talking or undervaluing the other team. At first it is taken lightly as just a publicity stunt but when the players overhear the news, they get over competitive. • 11. The Election Of The Uk In this essay, I will discuss whether elections in the UK are fair. The viewpoint which I will be arguing for is viewpoint two: we need to make some sensible adjustments to elections by, for example, encouraging people to vote electronically in order to discourage fraud but shouldn t change much else other than that. I will also evaluate the other viewpoints and why I do not believe these viewpoints are the key to making UK electionsfairer and more just . As of now, the UK uses the first past the post system in their elections; this means that the candidate with the most votes becomes the MP for their constituency. One sensible adjustment that I believe is necessary is lowering the voting age to 16. Currently, the voting age is 18. I think this makes elections unfair as young adults are being excluded from influencing the decision hence making the outcome of the election affect their lives the most. For example, young adults are massively affected by government education policies, I think they have a right to choose which candidate best represents their views and gives them the opportunity to achieve the best future possible. Some people might argue that 16 and 17 year olds are not responsible enough to make the right decisions in regard to who to elect; a candidate which would best benefit them in the future . Flood Case Study Other Factors Contributing to the Flood The Arun and Sunkosi sub catchments of the upper catchment area contribute to the intensity of floods, with the former possessing highest surface runoff potential (Wakode et al., 2013). As the Kosi River exits at the base of the mountain, the ability to transport sediment is dampened, leading to deposition of sediment and aggradation (Kale, 2008). High silt content in the river was due to soil erosion and landslides and the presence of narrow gorges (Wakode et al., 2013). The construction of the eastern embankment increased aggradation on the western side of the river, making the embankment vulnerable to breaching (Sinha, 2009). The high discharge of water from rivers can cause extensive damage to life and property (Singh Kumar, 2017), both of which include livestock, croplands and public utilities (i.e. electricity, telephones, and roads) (Singh Kumar, 2013). For instance, a lot of agricultural land was rendered uncultivable because the flood had transported and deposited excess sediment (Chakraborty et al., 2010). Singh and Kumar (2013) noted that millions of people in India are affected by flash floods yearly. In this regard, it can be deduced that countless people were displaced, many villages were flooded, and Bihar s infrastructure was compromised (Kale, 2008). While there have been no reliable estimate of deaths and loss of properties for the flood event, it can be said that more than 30 million people were affected (Sinha, 2009). • 24. Mortgage Loans For Those With Bad Credit Mortgage Loans for Those with Bad Credit Unfortunately, the fear of being denied has caused some potential homebuyers to not even bother going through the mortgage application process. The truth is that the vast majority of home lenders have some strict approval criteria, especially after the financial collapse that took place in the middle of the last decade. However, there are programs that are available to aspiring homebuyers with less than stellar credit. Most of these programs still require validation of income, and in many cases, an explanation of the cause for the low credit score, but they do provide a viable alternative to traditional mortgages. Understanding the Process It is always wise for anyone looking to obtain a loan for the sake of purchasing a home to develop a lucid perspicacity of the application process. When a person understands the process, they are less likely to become overwhelmed or intimidated by anything that occurs during the process. A person s credit score will play a significant role in determining whether they are approved for a mortgage loan as well as determining the interest rate of the loan. Although the credit score plays an integral role in the loan process, it is not the only criteria on which approval is based, meaning that a person or couple with bad credit can still qualify for home lending with certain lenders. This attitude of self reliance is a distinguishing characteristic of both Lord Byron and his literary figures (Parker, 88). She Walks in Beauty starts off from a traditional picture of a lady as fair and bright. It links with the brightness of daylight, in its comparison of the mistress to the night. The distinctive quality of the poem derives not from any departure from the norm but from a graceful elaboration of the conventions of compliment (Seifter, 82). Avoiding unoriginal or obvious similies, Byron uses metaphors which expresses the idea of a quiet and slight glow. The mistress like the night/ Of cloudless climes and starry skies (ll 1 2), not pitch dark but glimmering with a diffused light (Seifter, 82). She is like a portrait in chiaroscuro , her face is copied through an interaction of light and shadow. Bhakta 3 Her hazy beauty makes daylight seem bright. Imagery drawn from painting continues as a poet discusses the shades, rays, and tints that compose the mistress s particular radiance (Seifter, 82). The flowing lines, rhymes, and imagery of light and dark give the impression of elegant and simple compliment. The poem starts off brilliantly. Family members heavily influence our perspectives. From the time we are born our parents begin teaching us beliefs and values that are right in their eyes. Amy Tan, the author of Two Kinds talks about how it was living with a strict, traditional mother. In chunk 6, paragraph 67 Amy s mother states Only two kinds of daughters. She shouted in Chinese. Those who are obedient and those who follow their own minds! Only one kind of daughter can live in this house. Obedient daughter! Her mother drilled this idea into her mind, which definitely affected her to a large extent. Her mother s expectations were too much, and she could never fulfill them. In her mother s eyes she was a disappointment, and this experience changed her perspective on what s important in a person. Another example of family influencing our perspectives is shown in An Indian Father s Plea by Medicine Grizzly Bear. In the personal letter from a father to his son s teacher he expresses his concerns for his sons education. Pg(99) My son Wind Wolf, is not an empty glass coming into your class to be filled. He is a full basket coming into a different environment and a society with something special to share. Please ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. 1-Pentyl Ethanoate Lab Report Aim To prepare and purify an ester: 1 pentyl ethanoate, using pent 1 ol and ethanoic acid. An annotated reaction showing this reaction is shown below: Hazards Throughout the practical investigation, there were a variety of safety precautions implemented. This not only prevented physical injury, but allowed the efficient progress of the practical investigation in a safe manner. For instance, pentan 1 ol, the alcohol utilised to synthesis 1 pentyl ethanoate, is relatively flammable due to the hydroxyl functional group attached to the molecule. Therefore, in order to prevent severe burns, a laboratory coat and safety glasses were worn. The experiment was additionally performed whilst standing up, so that if the aliquot of pentan 1 ol ignited,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At room temperature (25В°C), esterification reactions are relatively slow, therefore requiring the rate of the chemical reaction to be increased for the products to be formed efficiently. This is implemented, by using a catalyst, such as concentrated sulphuric acid (H2SO4 (aq)), as well as by heating the mixture: using a heating mantle. As a result, the energy of the reactants can be greater than the activation energy, increasing the rate of reaction. Hence, as the reactants are relatively volatile, so reflux apparatus such as a pear shaped flask and a Liebig condenser were used, to minimise the amount of reactants lost, as well as allow the reaction to take place at the highest temperature possible. In addition, boiling chips were added prior to reflux, to prevent bumping and a decrease a loss of volatile reactants, during the reflux ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Physically Abusive Relationships People who are in abusive relationships intermittently suppress that it is hurting them. Three years ago, I was one of those people. For a prolonged time I had no notion that I was in an emotionally abusive relationship with someone, and that it was wrecking my mental health. The relationship deteriorated me and I was absolutely a changed person at the end of it. I was disgusted with myself, and nothing made myself cheerful anymore. It took myself a while to distinguish the distortion of my mood and behavior, and once I did, it was formidable to cut them loose. I was fourteen, plus I persuaded myself that I loved them. Admitting, I could clearly see that they were toxic for me, it did not alarm myself. I only wanted to be with them, even if it destroyed me mentally.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During the time we began talking, they were friendly, compassionate, and loving to me. They made myself feel special, and like I was worth everything. Eventually the compliments became rare, and the warm feeling of the relationship was cold. They began to disrespect me, and everyday I would get informed that I could be skinnier, or that I needed to wear more makeup because my face isn t pleasing. The insults would bruise me every time, and I just lived with it. I never aimed to defend myself when they would verbally attack me. I was fearful of damaging them, and I didn t want them to leave me. Eventually the horrible way I was being treated felt normal to me, and I did not notice what they were doing to my mental ...
