Early Stage Melanoma
Melanoma is a disease that develops in the cells of the skin (melanocytes). These are the cells that
produce melanin, which is the pigment that gives skin its color. Melanoma can also be found in the
eyes or internal organs such as the intestines. While melanoma is the most serious form of skin cancer,
the source is idiopathic. Despite the cause being idiopathic, it is known that ultraviolet radiation from
sources such as sunlight, and tanning beds increase the risk of melanoma development. Melanoma
may be the most serious type of skin cancer, but it is still treatable if it is detected early. The oldest
evidence of melanomas existence was found in Peru and is dated to be from the 4th century BC.
However, the first recorded description of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Struggle Between Protestantism And Pluralism
The struggle between Protestantism and pluralism in the 19th century
In the 19th century, America was experiencing a religious diversity expansion. Religion was an
essential part of the established American culture, gaining great influence on the spiritual lives of
many. For some, religion meant a special interest, as many saw in religion the power to dominate
while others selflessly embraced it as a form to live a harmonious life. Nonetheless, the superiority of
some established religions from the times of the colonies dominated over those seeking to fit in a
Protestant religious culture. Alexis de Tocqueville, was a French statesman, that while visiting
America made a strong observation about the power of religion, he concluded that, One cannot
therefore say that in the United States religion influences the laws or political opinions in detail, but it
does direct mores, and by regulating domestic life it helps to regulate the state. If religion helped
regulate the state, it can be said it contributed a strong element to the seeking of dominance of moral
matters according to the visions of some and exclusion of others. The desire for dominance over
cultural and religious principles, led the Puritan evangelical insiders and non Protestant outsiders into
a religious struggle for spiritual authority in 19th century America. Separation of church and state
guaranteed the right and freedom to practice the desire religion in America. Religions came to light
since colonial

The Relationship Between Csr Disclosures And Corporate...
Introduction Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is defined as the corporate initiatives taken by the
company which take responsibility to its stakeholders (Tricker, 2012). Over the years, most of the
public listed companies are moving away from shareholders oriented to stakeholders oriented. This
might be because they realised that it was no longer enough to focus on financial performance alone to
enhance business sustainability and credibility. The companies with stakeholder perception believe
that the CSR practices has a positive impact on their Corporate Financial Performance (CFP) and
reputation. Although the CSR disclosures is a legal requirement in some countries, the company has
become increasingly willing to disclose CSR practices in their annual report. The rapid increase in
CSR disclosures raises the question of what is the rationale behind CSR disclosure (Dhaliwal et al,
2011). What benefits does a company gain by engaging in CSR and discloses them in the annual
report? This paper will examine the relationship between CSR disclosures and corporate performance
by using academic literature. The corporate performance is focused on the financial profitability of the
company.
Previous Studies
The relationship between Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) disclosures and corporate
performance is controversial. Many prior studies (Solomon Solomon, 2003; Dhaliwal et al, 2011;

Stages Of Standard Diffusion Model
Five Stages of Standard Diffusion Model The diffusion process is the communication theory for
adopting or rejecting ideas, products, or innovation. Sociologists of the 1950s developed a standard
diffusion model that had five different stages. The stages are awareness, interest, evaluation, trial, and
adoption. In the awareness stage, an individual is introduced to a new idea, procedure, or product with
known knowledge about it. Following the awareness stage is the interest stage which is also referred
to as the information stage. In this stage, an individual starts becoming familiar and interested in the
new idea, procedure, or product while actively searching for more information regarding it. Thirdly is
the evaluation stage where the individual determines the value of the idea, procedure, or product in an
attempt of determining whether it is good. The trial stage is next where the person tries out the idea,
procedure, or product. Lastly is the adoption stage in which the individual determines that the idea,
procedure, or product is overall positive (Moore, Bagin, Gallagher, p. 74, 2016). These five stages
were highly critique by Lionberger and Rogers, because they believed this five stage process did not
follow a linear sequence. Everett Rogers later renamed the five stages because of the great impacts the
social system plays throughout the process. The five stages of Rogers diffusion process are
knowledge, persuasion, decision, implementation, and confirmation. In

Hairball Essay
Hairball A solitary woman sits in conversation with a benign tumour that had just recently been
removed from her ovary. As the woman speaks, the inanimate tumour, which she has named Hairball,
looks on from its glass encased perch atop the fireplace. The scene is macabre and certainly unusual,
but such is the life of Kat, the main character in Margaret Atwood s short story, Hairball. Kat s life is
filled with the unusual and the shocking, a lifestyle that has been self imposed. Throughout the years,
Kat, an avant garde fashion photographer, has altered her image, even her name, to suit the
circumstances and the era. Over time Kat has fashioned a seemingly strong and impenetrable exterior,

The Federal Reserve: A Knight in Shining Armor
quot;To suffer either the solicitation of merchants or the wishes
of government, to determine the measure of the bank issues,
is unquestionably to adopt a very false principle of conduct. quot;
Henry Thornton, 1802
The banker was frantic. A large mob was gathering outside his bank and the people were clamoring for
their money. The banker called the Federal Reserve Bank in Minneapolis and warned that unless this

The credit system of the country had ceased to operate, and thousands of firms went into bankruptcy
(Born...,.12). Something had to be done that would provide for a flexible amount of currency as well
as provide cohesion between banks across the United States. (Hepburn, 399) This knight in shining
armor, as described in the story of the bank run, was the Federal Reserve. The Federal Reserve Act of
1913 helped to establish banks as a united force working for the people instead of independent
agencies working against each other. By providing a flexible amount of currency, banks did not have
to hoard their money in fear of a bank run. Because of this, there was no competitive edge to see who
could keep the most currency on hand and a more expansionary economy was possible.
The evolution of the Federal Reserve did not begin on December 23, 1913 with the passage of the
Federal Reserve Act. Rather, it began with the Banking Panic of 1907, the most severe of the four
national banking panics that had occurred in the precious thirty four years.
In response to this panic, a committee was established to find the flaws of the current banking system.
This committee, the National Monetary Commission, found there were two main flaws dominating the
system. First, the currency was not responsive to changes in demand. (Born...13). This meant that the
bank had a fixed amount of currency, regardless of the

1. Regulations (Chapter 10)
How have recent financial disruptions changed the ways that financial markets are regulated? The
subprime mortgage crisis is a huge example of a financial disruption that changed the ways that
financial markets are regulated. Since bankers were giving out subprime mortgages that the house
buyers could not repay, the house buyers all obtained way too much debt that they could not pay back.
Because people couldn t pay back their debts then they got foreclosed. Since this screwed up our
entire economic status there have been a lot of regulations on that market.

What service does a stockbroker offer? Briefly describe the difference between a full service broker
and a discount broker. How does a broker handle a market order? How does a broker handle a limit
order? Ā· A stockbroker is a regulated professional individual, usually associated with a brokerage firm
or broker dealer, who buys and sells stocks and other securities for both retail and institutional clients,
through a stock exchange or over the counter, in return for a fee or commission.
Ā· Full service: provide a variety of services, such as personal advice, retirement planning and tax tips.
Full service brokers offer a wider selection of investment products such as derivatives and insurance,
as well as access to the company s research. Full service brokers are paid based on commission.
Ā· Discount: do not provide investment advice. Fees are kept low because discount brokers offer fewer
products. They are paid on salary, not commission.
Ā· Market order: An order that an investor makes through a broker or brokerage service to buy or sell an
investment immediately at the best available current price. A market order is the default

Essay on Analysis of Mending Wall by Robert Frost
Analysis of Mending Wall by Robert Frost
Robert Frost was inspired to write Mending Wall after talking with one of his farming friend Napoleon
Guay. He learned from talking with his neighbor that writing in the tones of real life is an important
factor in his poetic form (Liu,Tam). Henry David Thoreau once stated that, A true account of the
actual is the purest poetry. Another factor that might have played a role in inspiring Frost to write this
poem was his experience of living on a farm as a small boy. Mending Wall was published in 1915
along with a collection of Frost s poems in North of Boston. Theme Statements Nature dissolves the

Apples come and go with the seasons, but pines are forever and never out of season. Change
instinctively challenges and questions the ideals of tradition. In order to change, one must first break
tradition. But, in the poem the old man does not want to change and break tradition. The person who is
willing to question tradition and confront the problem is the young man. He uses those w words to ask
the question, There where it is we do not need the wall, and Why do they make good

that, Good fences make good neighbors . The youth challenges the old man to say what is on his mind,

about how, Something there is that doesn t love a wall, and how the wall has been damaged to the

The Big Man And Chiefdom Societies In New Guinea
In the big man and chiefdom societies, gift giving is sometimes used as a means of attack to gain
personal prestige. The Kwakiutl are a prime example as well as various groups in New Guinea.
According to the lecture notes, the way it works is the citizens of the Big Man societies come and pay
their debt to their leader, then are invited to a huge feast in which the leader gives all that he has
received away to everyone, rich or poor. He becomes known as a generous leader and gains respect
and admiration from his followers. The Big Man societies follow the rule that the more prestige you
gain, the higher your political power and status will be. The chiefdoms, however, do not follow this
rule. Instead, they follow a ranked system based on the

Rhinoplasty Surgery Research Paper
Picture Perfect Nose Have you ever wanted a nose so perfect that you imagine using a cookie cutter to
mold it? Rhinoplasties are one of the most common surgeries practiced in America. It is a procedure in
which one alters the nose to improve the appearance of their face. There are multiple reasons people

hand, others have breathing problems that can be fixed with nose surgery. These surgeries are slightly
different of course, insurance covers the surgery in regards to breathing problems but if you are just

however, is a delicate surgery. The patient and the doctor should have many conversation about what
is being done, why it is being done, outcomes and expectations from past patients, and any other
concerning questions from the patient. This surgery is not only done for surgical reasons but to help
one with their inner insecurities. The surgeon must understand the art of the nose and must be able to

Gender Specific Role In Forging Groups
From the time that fully modern humans emerged about 100,00 years ago up until approximately
12,000 years ago, societies of humans practiced foraging as a means for their survival. This period in
which foraging was predominant is known as the pre complexity period. In the traditional sense,
anthropologists classify complex societies as those that are sedentary and practice farming instead of
foraging. The traditional classification of a sedentary, agrarian society as complex is imperfect
because it discounts the societal complexities found within foraging bands. While these societies are
sometimes portrayed as primitive without culture, they actually have an egalitarian social structure
with language, religion, and a vast knowledge of the landscape in which they lived. The !Kung people
of southern Africa, for example, were able to identify close to 90 different plant species and utilize
them in their diet. While there were clear gender specific roles in foraging societies, where women
tended to gather plants while men hunted, the societies themselves did not have persistent inequalities.

developed in various different orders based on the location of the society. For example, one society

Signature based detection uses searching for known shifts or shreds of data within executable code.

heuristics can be used. New types of techniques have been make to solve this issue. One type of
heuristics, generic signatures, can identify differences by looking for slight variations of known

How Does Overpopulation Affect The Environment
Overpopulation is the condition of being populated with excessively large numbers. Being
overpopulated can cause environmental deterioration and it can affect people s lives. Human
overpopulation is one of the biggest environmental issues. As of 2016 the population in India was
1.324 billion. The population in India has drastically increased and has doubled. The overpopulation
has had many negative impacts to the people and the environment. Overpopulation is the cause of
poverty and poor health among residence of India.
India s overpopulztion has affected not only the wealthy but also the poor. The overpopulation of India
has created many obsticles for the pople. It has become very hard for to obtain a decent paying job.
This has led many families to work on their own. Families have began to far in order to make some
noney to maintain their families. However, it can also become a problem. Many families are now
farming so that also makes them not only harder for them to make money due to high competition, but
it als affecting the environment. Global warming, environmental pollution, and habitat loss are some
of the issues that can affect the environment. The climate in india has changed due to global warming
and that is a concerning to famrners. The farmers rely on the land to plant and having bad climate can
affect them in many ways. Farmers also rely on natural reources like water. These farmers cannot do
not have enough money to get the water they need, so they use natural reservoir to water their crops.
Nonetheless, this natural resouces are being used by many farmers and the water is running out and
reservoirs no longer use as a source of water. The insifcient amount of water leads to insufficient
amount if crop the farms can plant and produce. For those farmers who rely on their crops as their
main source of food are now starving and do not have money to provide their family with anything.
Farmers at this point are waiting for a rainfall; a natural source that would help them start all over and
plant their crops again.
Many people are aware that overpopulation has negative impacts on the environment, but only a few
are aware of the severe effects on health. In a place that is crowded there can also be

Information technology has undoubtedly become an indispensable part of our day to day lives. Both
the articles considered for analysis projects the role of IT, from being the back bone of commerce to
handling huge volumes of data, as being highly significant in the modern world. Even though both
Nicholas Carr and Erik Brynjolfsson are in agreement to the omnipresence of IT, their perception of
the future of IT differs vastly. I am in accordance with the school of thought put forth by Nicholas
Carr which believes that the strategic value of IT has reduced. For all the inventions that had

Most of the companies invest in new technologies when the existing versions can very well serve the
purpose. Hence emphasis should be given to effectively managing and maintaining the existing
technology rather than unnecessarily investing on more technology. IT can be replicated very easily
and is subject to rapid deflation making it a bad investment. It is always better to wait rather than rush
to buy a new technology since a better version is always available before the newly purchased one is
ready to use. Also it is very difficult to turn temporary technological advantages to enduring
positioning ones. Hence more emphasis should be given in fixing the vulnerabilities rather than
investing on a soon to be outdated technology. I agree with Carr that the companies in order to achieve
a better return should manage risks and costs meticulously rather than resorting to seeking aggressive
advantage. Also we have indeed spent much more than necessary on IT that the available technology
is much advanced than what is required in the most cases.
Brynjolfsson s four paradigms for innovation, i.e., measurement, experimentation, sharing and
replication, in my opinion, put forth a best practice that can be adopted to achieve innovation. This
model can be replicated by companies to achieve a desired effect. It has in turn been discussed by Carr
that a best practice can be

Utilitarianism Mill
In Mill s Utilitarianism he brings up a response that some have to the principles of Utilitarianism. The
response is an objection to the Utilitarian moral theory. The objection that Mill recounts is that the
people who do not agree with the Utilitarian moral theory say that Utilitarianism suggests that human
beings are like swine. The argument for this idea is that Utilitarianism is about the maximization of
pleasure and the minimization of pain. So with this in mind, those against the Utilitarianism say that
then it would be morally right to live life as a satisfied pig which seems very absurd. An example of
this concept would be with drug addicts. The objectors believe that Utilitarianism says that it is
morally right to live life

Descartes s Discourse On Method
In his Discourse on Method, Rene Descartes asserts that all human beings are equal in their ability to
reason and that any differences in opinion are not a result of a difference in ability to reason, but in the
application of the reasoning. Descartes begins his argument for this claim by stating that rational
thought and reason is what separates humans from animals, and that if all people have this ability to
reason, then that must be the distinguishing feature of humanity. He goes on to explain that while
individuals may differ within a species in regard to their non essential qualities, they will not differ in
the species distinguishing feature. This rule accounts for the diversity within humanity as a species
(such as differing hair colors, heights, and weights) while equalizing humanity s ability to reason.
From these premises, Descartes concludes that all humans must have an equal ability to reason and
that differences in thought are merely a result of differences in the application of the individual s
reasoning. In Part V of his Discourse, Descartes continues his argument for reasoning being the
essence of humanity by arguing that non human animals and machines cannot reason, and therefore
reasoning must be solely attributed to humans. Descartes presents two tests to determine whether or
not a being is human or non human, both based on the adaptability of the being s responses. He first
asserts that since machines and non human animals cannot communicate via spoken

The Game Of The Basketball State Playoffs Essay
It is the first round of the Basketball State playoffs, and with eight seconds left, the talented Northwest
team is down by three. The star point guard speed dribbles up the court, the tension on and off the
court is immense, the pressure is even greater. Everyone during and prior to this game, had witnessed
a season full of promise, and the consensus conclusion for most recognized this team as the best team
to have ever come out Northwest High School. This was our best and likely only chance for success.
So as the point guard puts the ball up, time nearly stops, it has a chance, but in like in life, the game of
basketball is unforgiving, he misses. As most made their pre conceived predictions of the future, or
lack thereof, a young sophomore and his Junior Varsity teammates, inspired by our elders walking off
the court, and the doubters going home, bonded together. Believing we were destined for something
historical, and mythological outside our small circle thus a community was born. The 2016 Northwest
Varsity Basketball team, the discourse community, where I developed relationships with people I call
my brothers, a community which has shaped my work ethic, and has given me the knowledge of the
amount of work it takes to be successful. Work which came in the efforts of a particular goal which at
the time was unknown amongst teammates. To us the future was still a mystery, a mystery in which
we knew would outline some kind of success.

Social Mobility and Woman vs. Lady in Victorian Soceity
Social Mobility and Woman vs. Lady in Victorian Soceity
The transformation of English society during the Victorian era brought with it numerous industrial,
cultural, as well as social changes. The overwhelming influx of population from rural to urban areas
and the various new job opportunities created by factories and London?s sudden shift to industrialism
affected not only the public, but also the personal lives of its residents. A new class system had begun
to form, beginning with the emergence of a new middle class. Women were especially affected by this,
because as they were expected to live off of their husbands and thrive solely on society and their own
families, it became increasingly important to marry well and remain in high ... Show more content on

The dissimilarities between a lower class bride and her upper class in laws also mirror the major
differences between a ?woman? and the more favored ?lady?. Can there be a choice of agency
between a delicate, consumptive maid, fatigued with her day s hard work, and a buxom, well
constituted lady, whose greatest exertion has been a drive in the park and the handing to her man a few
cards to be left at friends doors? The one is a servant, the other a lady; and physiogical conditions
stand nowhere in the face of such divine distinctions? (The Victorian Web).
A woman was poorly kept, did her own housework, and took care of her own children. She was most
often a part of the female population in urban areas, and was almost always of low social status. A
woman may have had to work alongside her husband in a factory to help feed her family, and was not
formally educated in academics or social etiquette. A lady, on the other hand, hardly ever did her own
work. She dressed well, spoke well, and entertained well. She was well educated and well maintained,
and always dressed in the finest of fabrics and carried herself like royalty. Her children were taken
care of by governesses (who were, of course, just women themselves) and this lady was nearly always
a member of upper, or upper middle class. One of the grand appeals of marrying well was the
possibility of becoming a lady?but

European Imperialism In British India
The works of Thomas Metcalf, T.W. Roberts, Daniel Headrick, and other notable historians explore
the development of the European imperial project through the use of architecture, technology, and
medicine. These technologies become the machines and driving force of imperialism and are used to
retain control over colonial regions. Headrick argues that these sciences provide the means to the
motives behind the imperialist powers who are working to keep their territorial subjects subdued to
their will. Without the means of technology, the motive can never be achieved, and the constructed
empires are inevitably doomed to failure. Along with the means of technology, the invention, use, and
implantation of these technologies also reflect the broader political and social trends of the empires.
Architecture, technology, and medicine showcase the changes in imperial policies, ideologies and
overarching view of the empire itself. (Present or Past Tense)
Metcalf s analysis of architecture in British India shows how a combination of cultures becomes
essential in designing an empire that reflected both the colonizer and the subjects. After the Sepoy
Mutiny of 1857, British officials realized that a serious reassessment of Indian culture was necessary
for Britain to remain the colonial power. Metcalf explores the construction of the Mayo College and
the architectural debates that came with building it. The formation and science behind the architecture
are essential to empire building

Budgeting and Compliance Issues in Healthcare
Budgeting and Compliance Budgeting and compliance issues are very important to healthcare.
Budgeting ensures the quality of care given to patients, what technologies the hospital has available,
and how staff gets paid, determining raises and benefits. Waste of time and supplies are damaging to
the budget. Compliance issues are what determine the standards of care given to patients. They also
set standards for safety of both patients and staff. Non compliance can cause fines for the facility and
loss of accreditation, which in turn causes losses of reimbursements from Medicare, Medicaid, and
insurance. Safety issues can cause people to get hurt and, in turn, cause lawsuits for individuals and
the organization. The cost of lawsuits and employee injuries can be very damaging to a budget.
Healthcare workers also stand the chance of consequences in noncompliance issues. Fines, legal
consequences, termination, and lose of professional licenses can occur. Both operational and capital
budgets are made up by the CFO, Chief Financial Officer, and approved by the CEO, Chief Executive
Officer, and the Board of Directors. (Operational Review of the Health Care Corporation of St Johns,
2002) The operational budget is based on projected costs, such as staff, supplies, administration, and
technology costs, and projected revenue from patient services and investments. They are usually made
up for the organization s fiscal year. The capital budget is a long term budget that is based on

Montgomery Bus Boycott
During the 1950 s African Americans were technically equal in the eyes of the law, but not to most of
the southern citizens. Segregation was a time of division between whites and African Americans in
regards to bathrooms, public amenities, schools etc. t all of the country was like this, the occupants
ofnorthern America were open and not as racist towards African Americans. In 1955, African
Americans obligated by Montgomery, Alabama, city ordinance to sit in the back city buses and to give

Constitution. The 14th amendment guarantees all citizens, regardless of race, equal rights and equal
protection under state and federal laws. The city appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court, which upheld
the lower court s decision on December 20, 1956. Montgomery s buses were integrated on December
21, 1956, and the boycott ended. It had lasted 381 days. Even though in the eyes of the law the buses
were integrated and the issue had been dealt with, African Americans still had to go through adversity
and resistance from white people that usually resulted in violence. While the busses were integrated
the people of Montgomery, Alabama figured out a new way to discriminate against African
Americans, they retaliated with integrated bus stops and even violence. Occasionally snipers were
paid to fire into public busses at African Americans in order to kill them and send a message. In
January 1957, four black churches and the homes of prominent black leaders were bombed; a bomb at
King s house was defuseq. On January 30, 1957, the Montgomery police arrested seven bombers; all
were members of the Ku Klux Klan, a white supremacist group. The arrests largely brought an end to
the busing related violence. The Montgomery Bus Boycott was a very important and vital part in the
civil rights movement for many reasons. First, it was the one of the first mass protests on civil rights in
the U.S. The Montgomery bus boycott set the stage for other large protests outside the court system to
bring fair treatment for African Americans. Second, Martin Luther King came up as a prominent
national leader of the civil rights movement while also.keeping true to his commitment to nonviolent
protest. Shortly after the boycott s end, he

Racial And Ethnic Disparities Of Health Care
Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Health Care Ksenia Bruner University of St. Francis Racial and
Ethnic Disparities in Health Care Introduction Although the United States is a leader in healthcare
innovation and spends more money on health care than any other industrialized nation, not all people
in the United State benefit equally from this progress as a health care disparity exists between racial
and ethnic minorities and white Americans. Health care disparity is defined as a particular type of
health difference that is closely linked with social or economic disadvantage...adversely affecting
groups of people who have systematically experienced greater social and/or economic obstacles to

gender; age; mental health; cognitive, sensory or physical disability; sexual orientation or gender
identity; geographic location; or other characteristics historically linked to discrimination or exclusion
(National Partnership for Action to End Health Disparities [NPAEHD], 2011, p. 3). Overwhelming
evidence shows that racial and ethnic minorities receive inferior quality health care compared to white
Americans, and multiple factors contribute to these disparities, including geography, lack of access to
adequate health coverage, communication difficulties between patients and providers, cultural
barriers, and lack of access to providers (American College of Physicians,

There are many different ways to transform this E R diagram to a tree structure diagram. All these

Indians, Hispanics, Asian Americans, Middle Easterners, North West, South and East Europeans. It
was for all minority groups, from religion to sex gender, women, the elderly and people with

African Racism In Pan Africanism In The 19th Century
Pan Africanism was a philosophical, economic and sociocultural call for unity between Africans and
the diaspora that gained popularity in the 19th century. The aim of the movement was to resist
physical and symbolic domination exerted by capitalist powers and overturn the social hierarchies
established by the forces of slavery, racism, and colonialism in Africa and abroad. The idea behind
including the African diaspora in Pan Africanist efforts is due not only to the common history that
connects them but to a common plight rooted in the same racism experienced by Africans and people
of African descent. United, African Nations would have the socio political and economic strength to
compete on the world stage and the power to redefine the narratives illustrating blackness in an
Eurocentric society within a Eurocentric world. Among the black leaders that represented Pan
Africanism were W.E.B DuBois and Marcus Garvey, political advocates different, and almost
opposing, in their methods but similar in their belief in the need for African solidarity in order to
reassert African pride and humanity from neo colonial subjugation. Pan Africanism gained
institutional legitimacy with the founding of the African Association in London and the international
attention gained by the various congresses that called for multinational participation, both highlighted
the priorities of Africans dispersed throughout the world by asserting themselves as a solidified

way. In addition, he always works hard and provides for his family. Throughout the course of my
rather short life, my grandpa has taught me many lessons. Here are three stories that stick out to me
the most. They taught me to be adventurous, to work hard, and to get back up after failure. The whole
family was there, as my grandpa decided to make a big purchase. He was buying a 2005 Chevy SSR
convertible, and five year old me was ecstatic. After a long night of waiting for all the details to be
worked out, the car was his. Me, being the bratty kid I was, jumped in and said, I get the first ride! On
my first ride, I remember the roar of the engine. That sounds like kitties purring. I said. My grandpa
laughed and said, You are right. Those are kitties! I exclaimed, Well then make those kitties purr! He
laughed and revved the engine as I stuck my hands out into the wind, laughing and yelling as I did so.
The fun continued as we continued to laugh and yelled, Faster!

Problem Of Deforestation
Deforestation is a genocide of trees, a modern day environmental plague. The clearing of millions of
trees each day. Not only hurting the environment, but all types of animals, plants, and indigenous
peoples that survive and live off of the forests. The forests we destroy day by day.
For our own selfish reasons. Deforestation is a major problem in our day and age, by killing the
millions of trees that live on our planet, we will kill the earth. Trees are apart of our natural
environment, they produce the oxygen we all need to breathe. If we as whole continue to kill our
Earth, tree by tree. We will be faced with global desertification and many other environmental
problems. Deforestation occurs mainly because of the major increase economic development. The
increasing production of roads, cattle farming, dams, agricultural farming, and much more. The
history of land use concerning deforestation, is closely related to farming and cattle ranching. In the
Amazon, cattle ranching is a major problem resulting in the increase of deforestation. Having over 200
million cattle in the Amazon, Brazil is the leading export of cattle in the world. Cattle ranching takes
up a lot of space, so just think of all the millions of trees that have to be cut down to make space for
these humongous ranches. It s the same thing with regular farming. Small farmers will clear a few
acres of trees then burn them, just so they can have room for their farms.

Seuss The Cat In The Hat Comes Back As A Cold War Allegory
The Cat in The Hat Comes Back is an illustrated children s book written by Dr. Seuss and published in
1958. This book is made for children aged three to eight who are just at the beginning of learning how
to read. This book is the second of the two The Cat in The Hat books and it is full of silliness,
messiness and despair on behalf of the narrator. However, some people try to analyse this children s
book as an allegory of the Cold War. In the following paper, I will show why some people might think
of The Cat in The Hat Comes Back as a Cold War Allegory although Dr. Seuss never indicated
anything about this theory. Even though this is a children s book many people interpret the pink stains

So Seuss himself denies the theory that The Cat in The Hat Comes Back hides a communistic message
and indicates that the choice of colours was just a financial aspect.
In conclusion, the interpretation of the pink stain as the Red Menace and the Voom as an atomic bomb
is a possibility. But The Cat in The Hat Comes Back is a children s book and therefore not intended to
make the readers politically aware since they are not interested in politics and do not understand the
book in this way. There are many more books written by Seuss dealing with political topics which are
much more obvious about the topic, so Seuss would not try to send a subtle message, which might not

Is there a role for primary prevention for patients with asymptomatic hyperuricaemia?

Gout is a very common disease in the UK, with 1 in 40 adults being affected by the condition (The

there is a greater disease burden in the more economically developed countries (Kuo et al. 2015).

2011), and these have been shown to be independent risk factors (Lin et al. 2000).
Hyperuricaemia is associated with higher all cause mortality
The classical hypothesis is that high uric acid levels lead to increased chance of crystals forming,
which then deposit in the joints. However, recent evidence has started to suggest that hyperuricaemia
itself is a risk factor for increased mortality from causes other than gout. A study carried out on
Japanese men has shown that high serum uric acid has been linked with an increased relative risk of
mortality from all causes in a study carried out on Japanese male workers (Tomita et al. 2000). An
increased mortality raises the question of whether we should routinely prescribe primary prevention
interventions in patients who are in the stage of asymptomatic hyperuricaemia.
Early studies have shown that there is no significant increase in mortality from renal failure. A
prospective study followed a cohort of 2046 initially healthy men and measured urate levels and the
incidence of a raised serum creatinine (Campion et al. 1987). They concluded that there wasn t a
significant rise in the creatinine level, and that there was no significant renal impairment caused
hyperuricaemia, supporting a conservative treatment regimen.
However, it is worth nothing that this measurement was done by correlation urate levels and creatine
levels as the baseline creatinine varies from person to person, it could be argued that this is not

Summary Of Beverly Tatum s Argument
Beverly Tatum s Argument Beverly Tatum s argument about the multiple identities and how many
people define their self is one of the most notorious articles I ve ever read. She s arguing how the areas
where a person is a member of the dominant or advantaged social group, the category is usually not
mentioned. That element of their identity is so taken for granted by them that it goes without
comment. For example she talks about when she asked her students of color to complete the sentence I
am .... how many of them mention their race, I am Black, Puerto Rican, and Korean American . But,
when she asked white students to complete the sentence they rarely bring up their race. Some may ask
why is it that the white students didn t bring up their race? That s because through out the world and

She uses her examples perfectly, and backed it up very well, they fall right into what she s trying to
inform us on. People often forget about and not talk about how we are dominant in some categories
but always remember how we are subordinates as you can see. The Dominant groups, by definition,
set the parameters within which the subordinates operate. The dominant group holds the power and
authority in society relative to the subordinates and determines how that power and authority may be
acceptably used. Miller points out that dominant groups generally do not like to be reminded of the

Over the years, most of the public listed companies are moving away from shareholders oriented to stakeholders oriented. This might be because they realised that it was no longer enough to focus on financial performance alone to enhance business sustainability and credibility. The companies with stakeholder perception believe that the CSR practices has a positive impact on their Corporate Financial Performance (CFP) and reputation. Although the CSR disclosures is a legal requirement in some countries, the company has become increasingly willing to disclose CSR practices in their annual report. The rapid increase in CSR disclosures raises the question of what is the rationale behind CSR disclosure (Dhaliwal et al, 2011). What benefits does a company gain by engaging in CSR and discloses them in the annual report? This paper will examine the relationship between CSR disclosures and corporate performance by using academic literature. The corporate performance is focused on the financial profitability of the company. Previous Studies The relationship between Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) disclosures and corporate performance is controversial. • 6. Stages Of Standard Diffusion Model Five Stages of Standard Diffusion Model The diffusion process is the communication theory for adopting or rejecting ideas, products, or innovation. Sociologists of the 1950s developed a standard diffusion model that had five different stages. The stages are awareness, interest, evaluation, trial, and adoption. In the awareness stage, an individual is introduced to a new idea, procedure, or product with known knowledge about it. Following the awareness stage is the interest stage which is also referred to as the information stage. In this stage, an individual starts becoming familiar and interested in the new idea, procedure, or product while actively searching for more information regarding it. Thirdly is the evaluation stage where the individual determines the value of the idea, procedure, or product in an attempt of determining whether it is good. The trial stage is next where the person tries out the idea, procedure, or product. Lastly is the adoption stage in which the individual determines that the idea, procedure, or product is overall positive (Moore, Bagin, Gallagher, p. 74, 2016). These five stages were highly critique by Lionberger and Rogers, because they believed this five stage process did not follow a linear sequence. Everett Rogers later renamed the five stages because of the great impacts the social system plays throughout the process. The five stages of Rogers diffusion process are knowledge, persuasion, decision, implementation, and confirmation. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Something had to be done that would provide for a flexible amount of currency as well as provide cohesion between banks across the United States. (Hepburn, 399) This knight in shining armor, as described in the story of the bank run, was the Federal Reserve. The Federal Reserve Act of 1913 helped to establish banks as a united force working for the people instead of independent agencies working against each other. By providing a flexible amount of currency, banks did not have to hoard their money in fear of a bank run. Because of this, there was no competitive edge to see who could keep the most currency on hand and a more expansionary economy was possible. The evolution of the Federal Reserve did not begin on December 23, 1913 with the passage of the Federal Reserve Act. Rather, it began with the Banking Panic of 1907, the most severe of the four national banking panics that had occurred in the precious thirty four years. In response to this panic, a committee was established to find the flaws of the current banking system. This committee, the National Monetary Commission, found there were two main flaws dominating the system. First, the currency was not responsive to changes in demand. (Born...13). Gender Specific Role In Forging Groups From the time that fully modern humans emerged about 100,00 years ago up until approximately 12,000 years ago, societies of humans practiced foraging as a means for their survival. This period in which foraging was predominant is known as the pre complexity period. In the traditional sense, anthropologists classify complex societies as those that are sedentary and practice farming instead of foraging. The traditional classification of a sedentary, agrarian society as complex is imperfect because it discounts the societal complexities found within foraging bands. • 23. Descartes s Discourse On Method In his Discourse on Method, Rene Descartes asserts that all human beings are equal in their ability to reason and that any differences in opinion are not a result of a difference in ability to reason, but in the application of the reasoning. Descartes begins his argument for this claim by stating that rational thought and reason is what separates humans from animals, and that if all people have this ability to reason, then that must be the distinguishing feature of humanity. He goes on to explain that while individuals may differ within a species in regard to their non essential qualities, they will not differ in the species distinguishing feature. This rule accounts for the diversity within humanity as a species (such as differing hair colors, heights, and weights) while equalizing humanity s ability to reason. From these premises, Descartes concludes that all humans must have an equal ability to reason and that differences in thought are merely a result of differences in the application of the individual s reasoning. In Part V of his Discourse, Descartes continues his argument for reasoning being the essence of humanity by arguing that non human animals and machines cannot reason, and therefore reasoning must be solely attributed to humans. Descartes presents two tests to determine whether or not a being is human or non human, both based on the adaptability of the being s responses. These technologies become the machines and driving force of imperialism and are used to retain control over colonial regions. Headrick argues that these sciences provide the means to the motives behind the imperialist powers who are working to keep their territorial subjects subdued to their will. Without the means of technology, the motive can never be achieved, and the constructed empires are inevitably doomed to failure. Along with the means of technology, the invention, use, and implantation of these technologies also reflect the broader political and social trends of the empires. Architecture, technology, and medicine showcase the changes in imperial policies, ideologies and overarching view of the empire itself. (Present or Past Tense) Metcalf s analysis of architecture in British India shows how a combination of cultures becomes essential in designing an empire that reflected both the colonizer and the subjects. After the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857, British officials realized that a serious reassessment of Indian culture was necessary for Britain to remain the colonial power. Metcalf explores the construction of the Mayo College and the architectural debates that came with building it. The formation and science behind the architecture are essential to empire building ... Budgeting ensures the quality of care given to patients, what technologies the hospital has available, and how staff gets paid, determining raises and benefits. Waste of time and supplies are damaging to the budget. Compliance issues are what determine the standards of care given to patients. They also set standards for safety of both patients and staff. Non compliance can cause fines for the facility and loss of accreditation, which in turn causes losses of reimbursements from Medicare, Medicaid, and insurance. Safety issues can cause people to get hurt and, in turn, cause lawsuits for individuals and the organization. The cost of lawsuits and employee injuries can be very damaging to a budget. Healthcare workers also stand the chance of consequences in noncompliance issues. Fines, legal consequences, termination, and lose of professional licenses can occur. Both operational and capital budgets are made up by the CFO, Chief Financial Officer, and approved by the CEO, Chief Executive Officer, and the Board of Directors. (Operational Review of the Health Care Corporation of St Johns, 2002) The operational budget is based on projected costs, such as staff, supplies, administration, and technology costs, and projected revenue from patient services and investments. Why Is The Montgomery Bus Boycott Important Adam Abouhashish Mr. Baugh Period: 6th 5/3/16 Montgomery Bus Boycott During the 1950 s African Americans were technically equal in the eyes of the law, but not to most of the southern citizens. It had lasted 381 days. Even though in the eyes of the law the buses were integrated and the issue had been dealt with, African Americans still had to go through adversity and resistance from white people that usually resulted in violence. While the busses were integrated the people of Montgomery, Alabama figured out a new way to discriminate against African Americans, they retaliated with integrated bus stops and even violence. Occasionally snipers were paid to fire into public busses at African Americans in order to kill them and send a message. In January 1957, four black churches and the homes of prominent black leaders were bombed; a bomb at King s house was defuseq. On January 30, 1957, the Montgomery police arrested seven bombers; all were members of the Ku Klux Klan, a white supremacist group. The arrests largely brought an end to the busing related violence. The Montgomery Bus Boycott was a very important and vital part in the civil rights movement for many reasons. First, it was the one of the first mass protests on civil rights in the U.S. The Montgomery bus boycott set the stage for other large protests outside the court system to bring fair treatment for African Americans. Second, Martin Luther King came up as a prominent national leader of the civil rights movement while also.keeping true to his commitment to nonviolent protest. Shortly after the boycott s end, he ... Racial And Ethnic Disparities Of Health Care Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Health Care Ksenia Bruner University of St. Francis Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Health Care Introduction Although the United States is a leader in healthcare innovation and spends more money on health care than any other industrialized nation, not all people in the United State benefit equally from this progress as a health care disparity exists between racial and ethnic minorities and white Americans. Health care disparity is defined as a particular type of health difference that is closely linked with social or economic disadvantage...adversely affecting groups of people who have systematically experienced greater social and/or economic obstacles to health and/or clean environment based on their racial or ethnic group; religion; socioeconomic status; gender; age; mental health; cognitive, sensory or physical disability; sexual orientation or gender identity; geographic location; or other characteristics historically linked to discrimination or exclusion (National Partnership for Action to End Health Disparities [NPAEHD], 2011, p. 3). Overwhelming evidence shows that racial and ethnic minorities receive inferior quality health care compared to white Americans, and multiple factors contribute to these disparities, including geography, lack of access to adequate health coverage, communication difficulties between patients and providers, cultural barriers, and lack of access to providers (American College of Physicians, ... • 34. African Racism In Pan Africanism In The 19th Century Pan Africanism was a philosophical, economic and sociocultural call for unity between Africans and the diaspora that gained popularity in the 19th century. The aim of the movement was to resist physical and symbolic domination exerted by capitalist powers and overturn the social hierarchies established by the forces of slavery, racism, and colonialism in Africa and abroad. The idea behind including the African diaspora in Pan Africanist efforts is due not only to the common history that connects them but to a common plight rooted in the same racism experienced by Africans and people of African descent. United, African Nations would have the socio political and economic strength to compete on the world stage and the power to redefine the narratives illustrating blackness in an Eurocentric society within a Eurocentric world. Among the black leaders that represented Pan Africanism were W.E.B DuBois and Marcus Garvey, political advocates different, and almost opposing, in their methods but similar in their belief in the need for African solidarity in order to reassert African pride and humanity from neo colonial subjugation. Not only hurting the environment, but all types of animals, plants, and indigenous peoples that survive and live off of the forests. The forests we destroy day by day. For our own selfish reasons. Deforestation is a major problem in our day and age, by killing the millions of trees that live on our planet, we will kill the earth. Trees are apart of our natural environment, they produce the oxygen we all need to breathe. If we as whole continue to kill our Earth, tree by tree. We will be faced with global desertification and many other environmental problems. Deforestation occurs mainly because of the major increase economic development. The increasing production of roads, cattle farming, dams, agricultural farming, and much more. The history of land use concerning deforestation, is closely related to farming and cattle ranching. In the Amazon, cattle ranching is a major problem resulting in the increase of deforestation. Having over 200 million cattle in the Amazon, Brazil is the leading export of cattle in the world. Cattle ranching takes up a lot of space, so just think of all the millions of trees that have to be cut down to make space for these humongous ranches. It s the same thing with regular farming. This book is the second of the two The Cat in The Hat books and it is full of silliness, messiness and despair on behalf of the narrator. Hyperuricaemia is associated with higher all cause mortality The classical hypothesis is that high uric acid levels lead to increased chance of crystals forming, which then deposit in the joints. However, recent evidence has started to suggest that hyperuricaemia itself is a risk factor for increased mortality from causes other than gout. A study carried out on Japanese men has shown that high serum uric acid has been linked with an increased relative risk of mortality from all causes in a study carried out on Japanese male workers (Tomita et al. 2000). An increased mortality raises the question of whether we should routinely prescribe primary prevention interventions in patients who are in the stage of asymptomatic hyperuricaemia. Early studies have shown that there is no significant increase in mortality from renal failure. A prospective study followed a cohort of 2046 initially healthy men and measured urate levels and the incidence of a raised serum creatinine (Campion et al. 1987). They concluded that there wasn t a significant rise in the creatinine level, and that there was no significant renal impairment caused hyperuricaemia, supporting a conservative treatment regimen.
