This document discusses prayer and the Kingdom of God from a Catholic perspective. It contains several passages from the Catechism of the Catholic Church on different aspects of prayer and the Kingdom. Some key points discussed include:
- In prayer, disciples wait attentively for Christ's second coming while remembering his first coming. Prayer is a form of combat against temptation.
- There is a hierarchy to prayer - first coming the Kingdom, then what is necessary to attain it, and cooperating in Christ's mission.
- Prayer is focused on desiring and searching for the coming Kingdom, as Jesus taught.
- The Church is associated with the Kingdom of Christ through the apostles and Peter, to whom Jesus
2. In Jesus "the Kingdom of God is near", he calls for conversion
and faith but also for vigilance. In prayer, the disciple
attentively waits for the One who "is and who is to come", in
remembrance of his first coming in the humility of the flesh,
3. and in the hope
of his second
advent in glory.
In communion
with his Master,
the prayer of the
disciples is a
combat, and being
vigilant in prayer
is how one does
not fall into
temptation.
CIC 2612
4. 1 - first the Kingdom,
2 - below what is
necessary to attain it
3-and to cooperate in his
coming. –
This cooperation with
the mission of Christ and
the Holy Spirit, which is
now that of the Church,
is the petition of the
apostolic community.
THE KINGDOM
AND PRAYER
The Christian petition is
focused on desire and the
search for the Kingdom
to come, according to
the teachings of Jesus.
There is a hierarchy
in requests:
5. It is the prayer of Paul, the apostle par excellence, who
reveals to us how divine concern for all the Churches must
animate Christian prayer. With prayer, every baptized
person works for the Coming of the Kingdom. CIC 2632
6. Praying in the events of each day and each moment is one of the secrets of
the Kingdom revealed to the "little ones", to the servants of Christ, to the
poorof the beatitudes. It is right and good to pray that the coming of the
Kingdomof justice and peace influence the course of history, CIC 2660
7. To those who seek the Kingdom and justice of God. He
promises to give them everything extra. Indeed, everything
belongs to God: whoever possesses God lacks nothing CIC 2830
8. Give us today our daily bread…(daily is translated
from epiousios: "the most essential"), directly designates
the Bread of Life, the Body of Christ, "remedy of
immortality" without which we do not have Life in us. -
9. the heavenly meaning is clear: this "day" is that of the Lord,
that of the Feast of the Kingdom, anticipated in the Eucharist, in
which we have a foretaste of the coming Kingdom. day".CCC 2837
11. THE KINGDOM
AND THE CHURCH
The keys of the kingdom
- Since the beginning
of his public life,
Jesus chose some men
to be with him and
participate in his mission;
he made them sharers
of his authority
"and sent them to
proclaim the Kingdom
of God and to heal"
(Lk 9:2).
12. They remain forever associated with the Kingdom of Christ
because through them he directs his Church: “For my part, I
prepare the Kingdom for you, as my Father prepared it for me, so
that you may eat and drink at my table in my Kingdom. and sit on
thrones to judge the twelve tribes of Israel” (Lk 22:29-30). CIC 551
13. Our Lord
declared to him:
"You are Peter,
and on this rock
I will build
my Church,
and the doors
of Hell will
not prevail
against her"
CIC 552
(Mt 16,18).
14. Jesus has entrusted Peter with a specific authority: "To you I will give the keys
of the Kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in
heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven” (Mt 16:19).
15. The power of the keys designates the authority to govern the house of God,
which is the Church. Jesus, "the Good Shepherd" (Jn 10,11), confirmed this
order after his resurrection: "Feed my sheep" CIC 553 (Jn 21,15-17).
16. The power to "bind and loose" means the authority to
1 - absolve sins,
2 - pronounce doctrinal sentences
3 - make disciplinary decisions in the Church.
17. Jesus entrusted
this authority to
the Church through
the ministry of the
apostles and
particularly through
that of Peter, the only
one to whom He
explicitly entrusted
the keys of the
Kingdom.
18. An early vision
of the Kingdom:
the Transfiguration
Sitting at the right
hand of the Father
means the opening
of the kingdom of the
Messiah, fulfilling the
visionof the prophet
Daniel regarding the
Sonof the man:
19. "Empire, honor, and kingdom were given to him, and all peoples, nations,
and languages served him. His empire is an eternal empire that will never
pass away, and his kingdom will never be destroyed" (Dn 7:14).
20. A partir de este momento, los apóstoles se convirtieron
en los testigos del "Reino que no tendrá fin“. CIC 664
21. "constitutes the seed and the beginning
of this Kingdom on earth". CIC 669
"The Church, or the Kingdom of Christ
already present in mystery",
22. The Church is one, holy, catholic and apostolic in its profound and ultimate
identity, because in it there already exists and will be consummated at the end
of time "the Kingdom of heaven", "the Kingdom of God", which has come in
the person of Christ and that grows mysteriously in the hearts of those who
are incorporated into it until its full eschatological manifestation. CIC 865
one, holy, catholic and apostolic
The
church
23. At the end of time the
Kingdom of God will
come to its fullness.
After the Final
Judgment, the
righteous will reign
toalways with Christ,
glorified in body and
soul, and the universe
itself will be renewed:
CIC 1040
24. "All these good fruits of our natureand of our diligence,
after having propagated them bythe earth in the
Spirit of the Lord and according to his command,
25. we find them again afterwards, cleansed of all stain,
enlightened and transfigured when Christ hands over the
eternal and universal kingdom to the Father". God will
then be "all in all" in eternal life: (1 Cor 15,22), CIC 1050
26. THE EXTENSION OF HIS KINGDOM – EVANGELIZATION
– APOSTOLATE – MEDIA - CATECHESIS -
27. .
His royal dignity demands that all of society conform to divine
commandments and Christian principles, whether by enacting
laws, or administering justice, or finally, forming the souls of
young people in sound doctrine and upright customs.
28. Jesus Christ is a
loving King, because
he loved us men to
the point of shedding
blood. Because
he loves us, he freed
us from sins.
"Only" love is capable
of freeing us from sin.
By freeing men from
sin, He made us the
Kingdom of God.
29. His Kingdom “never sets”! The Kingdom "of truth, love, grace
and forgiveness" has no end. His kingdom does not endand
the Kingdom of man does not end with Him. Only in Him
can we continue to hope, while we live in the world- JP2
30. .
Establish institutions and act where they contribute most, in
depth and in extension, to building the Kingdom of Christ in
society, and thus attend to the needs of the universe and the
particular Church, in communion with its Pastors and
according to its own charism; Constitutions LC nº 4, 2.
31. We seek to give glory to God and make the Kingdom
of Christ present in the hearts of men and in society
32. through our own sanctification in the state and condition
of life to which God has called us, and through personal
and communal apostolic action. Statutes RC no. 7.
