Teotihuacan Artistic Influence
Teotihuacan: Sphere of Artistic Influence
In the Basin of Mexico about 7,000 ft above sea level lies the ruins of the ancient city of Teotihuacan,
the place of the gods, which flourished from 100 650 A.D. Little is known about this city s mysterious
demise of power, besides evidence of what appears to be ritualized burnings at major temples and
centers. The impact of Teotihuacan throughout Mesoamerica is evident, and the most obvious
indicator of this influence is through artistic style. Just how far was the expansion of Teotihuacan s
artistic influence across Mesoamerica? I will use a variety of sources not only to define the
Teotihuacano art style as a whole, but also to map the path of its successful impact, (and also
resistance,) across subsequent Mesoamerican civilizations, focusing principally on the Maya. The
architectural style known as talud tablero marks the presence of Teotihuacan abroad more distinctly
than any other aspects of its art. The sloping talud (talus) supports the vertical tablero (entablature),
which is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By 450 AD, versatile mold made ceramics were beginning to be mass produced, stamped and
distributed out of Teotihuacan workshops, believed to be located north of the Citadel. These host
figures have been found as far as Guatemala (900 miles away).
Brightly polychromed urns and incense burners sporting human and animal faces are among the larger
ceramics that survive from this era. The Teotihuacanos may have been able to take these
anthromorphic assemblages apart and reconfigure them into different deities from the constituent
parts. (Miller, Mary Ellen 2012) One large urn from Teotihuacan displays the image of an owl deity
that served the city s war cult. Owl depictions have been tied to war iconography all across
Mesoamerica because of their associations with nighttime and the

In The Skin Of A Lion Essay
The Unknown History
The genre of historical fiction is loved by many authors as it allows them to use the past as an
inspiration while writing a fictional story that will captivate the readers. In the novel In the Skin of a
Lion by Michael Ondaatje, the rich history is explored throughout the novel with the theme of the
unfair treatment of immigrants, the construction of both the Bloor Street Viaduct and the Queen Street
Waterworks and the character of Rowland Harris. By looking at the historical facts in the novel, we
can see why it s considered a historical fiction novel, which most readers fail to recognize; this is
important because Ondaatje chooses this writing style so that the readers can learn about the rich
history of Toronto through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the novel, Ondaatje names him Rowland Harris and he s a secondary character in the story.
However, that being said, Rowland Harris is portrayed as a visionary, a dreamer and an achiever. The
author does a great job of bringing this character in the story all while maintaining some great
accomplishments in his life. Roland Harris envisioned a lot of aspects that Toronto now has. During
Harris and Patrick s conversation at The Queen Street Waterworks, Harris says It turned out I was
dreaming about projects for the city that had been rejected over the years. Wonderful things that were
said to be too vulgar or expensive, too this too that. (Ondaatje 237) Roland Harris was a great architect
for the city of Toronto, he was a visionary and wanted to make the city of Toronto grow. This is
directly linked to Toronto s history and Ondaatje uses that secondary character who the readers don t
see a lot throughout the book to talk about someone who dreamed big for Toronto. Harris even says to
Patrick I mean the Bloor Street Viaduct and this building here are just a hint of what could have been
done here. (Ondaatje 237) For someone who was a visionary for Toronto, the sky would have been the
limit if he had the money and the right to keep making the city grow. The Character of Harris has
played a valuable part in the way Toronto is shaped today and Ondaatje knew

The Aztecs Essay
The Aztecs encountered the conquistadors, the leader of the group was a Spanish named Hernan
Cortés. In 1521, the Aztecs caused their enemies to suffer major losses. Though the Aztecs didn t all
die to the war, the Aztecs mostly died out due to the diseases that the Spaniards brought over.
The Aztecs had pyramids comparable to the Egyptians, but on top of these pyramids the Aztecs built
temples. These temples on the pyramids were used to worship the Aztecs three more important gods,
Huitzilopochtli, Quetzalcoatl and Tezcatlipoca. But not only did they have house shrines, they also
had schools, sacred pools, altars, gardens, and dormitories. Some temples had arsenals inside and ball
courts.
There were also large buildings, like the Emperor s palace. The palace consisted of four main rooms,
balls courts, a ceremonial plaza, and even chinampas. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the Badianus Manuscript, there is a codex that explained how to use plants and trees to create
treatments and ailments which contained over 180 recipes. Herbalists that used these recipes were
called the tictil . Also these recipes actually had some scientific backing behind them. Another
advancement was the calendars the Aztecs used. These calendars were called Tonalpohualli (day count
260 days) and Xiuhpohualli (solar year 365 days ). Even though these calendars had different day
counts, they coincided after 52 years.
The Aztecs had a writing system consisted of ideograms and pictograms, and was very similar to the
Mayan system. To understand these pictograms you needed to also understand Aztec cultural
conventions. An example of a pictogram would be a corpse wrapped in bandages, which represented
death. This would be a reason that the Aztecs were better than the Incas since the Incas didn t have a
writing system at all. Aztec literature was written in paper made of Agave plant fiber and were folded
like a fan. These books were called codices (or a

The Test Narrative
I can t fail this test. I have to do well on this test. I have too.
My day had been off to a rough start. In the morning, I was late to the first period. I fell twice during
that period, and once during passing period. It was only second period, and I could not stop thinking
about how I had to take the ACT test tomorrow morning at 8. I was shaking and sweating all day. I
really wanted to do well on the ACTs. I was pretty sure I was qualified to take the test. However, I was
not prepared to take this test. Honestly, I shouldn t even take this test. Everyone says I m not sharp
enough to take this test. They say there are better options out there than me. They re always saying
how I m always too dull and don t really have a point here.

Medea The Rose
The play of Medea and the film The Name of the Rose are two very complex pieces of literature. They
have many themes that flow through them and may require one to watch each piece more than once.
However, there are similar themes that can be identified between the two. For instance, they both have
themes of narration, murder, pre meditated murder, ego, and lust to name a few. I will analyze the
themes of narration and murder between Euripidies Medea and The Name of the Rose .
The nurse of Medea opens the play with the narration of the events that took place just before the play
actually begins and sets the tone for the rest of the play. She sets the tone of despair and tragedy when
she states, For then my mistress Medea would not have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Human Trafficking Is The Modern Slavery
When forced into sex trafficking statistics state that 67 percent of prisoners are forced into labor, 55
percent are women and girls, and 26 percent are children that endure the conditions and harshness of
this generation s modern slavery. Human trafficking is the modern slavery throughout the globe and
27,000 cases have been reported to the NHTRC hotline in the last eight years alone (Human
Trafficking). Human trafficking is of all ages, all genders, and anyone can be forced into the labor.
There are some movies that shine light on this topic, Taken for example seems to be one of the closest
movies to the ongoings of sex trafficking. Two women were taken from their vacation and one of the
girls fathers goes after her and tries to track her down. We saw from the beginning how the young
man, who was to abduct them, was able to learn where they lived, that they were tourist, and that they
were alone with a whole floor to themselves. It was an easy catch and the two ladies did not even
know what they had done by sprouting what they thought was harmless information. Women are seen
as weak and property, we can see this through out social media, even though there is talk of equality
amongst men and women in this generation it is clear that women are mere objects amongst a large
group of men.
Human trafficking is a by far one of the cruelest acts, yet not until 2003 was it established as a type
type A felony (Children: Not for Sale). Minors under the age of 18 years forced

Hausman test
Hausman test which usually accepted method of selecting between random and fixed effects which is
running on regression equation. Hausman (1978) provided a tectonic change in interpretation related
to the specification of econometric models. The seminal insight that one could compare two models
which were both consistent under the null spawned a test which was both simple and powerful. The so
called Hausman test has been applied and extended theoretically in a variety of econometric domains.
We focus on the construction of the Hausman test in a variety of panel data settings, and in particular,
the recent adaptation of the Hausman test to semi parametric and nonparametric panel data models. A
formal application of the Hausman test is given focusing on testing between fixed and random effects
within a panel data model. Mostly fixed effects are accepted way to run with panel data as they always
present consistent outcomes but may not be the most effective way to implement. On the other hand,
random effects usually provide to the researcher better P values as it considered to be a more active
estimator, so researcher can study random effects if it is reasonable to do so. Moreover, Hausman test
choose a more effective model compared to a less efficient as consistent model should presents robust
estimates and consistent results owing to the more efficient model.

Criteria for Evaluation
I. Ensure public safety II. Protect corporate reputation III. Minimize financial losses and retain
restaurant chain s business IV. Long term gains
Evaluation of Options
1. Do not inform the restaurant chain
* Ensure public safety: A majority of salmonella species can be inactivated if the restaurant chain
operates at documented pasteurization temperatures. However, in the event of the infection reaching
the public, there is a significant morbidity and mortality rate. Hospitalization and death rates can be as
high as 33% and 3% respectively. (Schlundt, 2001) Exhibit 1 shows the number of Salmonella related
deaths and death rates in the past 10 years. * Protect corporate reputation: Mike s might get away with
the wrongdoing if the contamination does not result in any public level infection. However, if any case
of infection were to come to light, Mike s will be portrayed by the media as an unethical and
unscrupulous organization which can ruin its reputation. * Minimize financial losses and retain
restaurant chain s business: The upside to this option is prevention of losses on the infected food lot.
However, in case of any eventualities, the restaurant chain might pull out. Also, the ensuing litigation
costs and revenue losses due to other customers withdrawing their

Narby Research Chapter 5 Summary
Objective: In this chapter Narby researches past findings of intelligence in animals and plants. Some
examples include the self awareness of dolphins and crows creating tools. Narby s definition of
intelligence seems to change to being capable of consciously making decisions.
Subjective: One part of this chapter I was able to associate to was the part about parrots answering
questions. I could relate to this because I remember seeing a parrot identify shapes once while I was
on vacation. Initially it blew my mind, but I later convinced myself it was a routine, however now it
makes sense, parrots are capable of learning.
i) The problem with these definitions of intelligence, is that they can only be applied to humans. So
based off of these definitions, no other species can be intelligent even if they act in such ways that
would require intelligence (43 44) ii) Monod didn t believe there was intelligence in nature. He
thought the scientific method meant that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Much like the scientists in previous chapters, Martin Giurfa thinks bees are much more than the
machines they had been referred to as by Monod. Narby mentions how Giurfa s studies showed that
bees could grasp abstract concepts like identifying corresponding images to find a reward. The bees
were even able to figure out to recognize and match new patterns after the original image was
changed.
Subjective: I am conflicted about this experiment because it s cool and cruel at the same time. I think
it s cool that bees are able to learn to match corresponding images to find food, meaning that they are
able to learn new processes for finding food. However, it is also cruel because Narby mentions that
once the bees got to the food, they repeatedly tried flying straight up, hitting a plexiglass cover,
instead of exiting through the tubes. This means that even though the bees were successful, they

Character Analysis Of Flowers For Algernon
Flowers for Algernon In the short story, Flowers for Algernon , Daniel Keyes writes about an
intellectually disabled man named Charlie Gordon. Charlie s goal is to become intelligent. Charlie
volunteered to be in a medical trial that would help him triple in intelligence. The operation did work,
and Charlie s intelligence tripled very quickly. However, very soon after, his intelligence began to
quickly decline. Charlie ended up with the same amount of intelligence that he started with. Charlie
Gordon is not better off as a result of the surgery. He was lonely, much more aware of his flaws, and
he had much less hope at the end of the story. Charlie Gordon was very lonely at the end of the story.
Before Charlie had the operation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This makes him upset and angry at himself for not understanding what was happening. On page 193,
Daniel Keyes writes, I m ashamed. This was the first time that Charlie truly showed his emotions and
understood how it felt to regret something. After the operation, Charlie felt things like shame, regret
and loneliness. However, before, he didn t feel any of these. Such emotions can make someone
depressed, which is exactly what Charlie was. Daniel Keyes illustrates this when Charlie says It is
hard to throw away thoughts of suicide. (page 302) This shows just how serious Charlie s condition
really was at the end of the story. For these reasons, Charlie is more aware of the things that he does
wrong after the surgery. To continue, Charlie has much less hope after the operation. Once Charlie
realizes that his intelligence is likely to decrease juristically, he starts to lose hope in ever staying as
smart as he used to be. In the beginning, he was always so hopeful and trusting of everyone around
him and himself. Daniel Keyes describes this idea when Charlie says Their going to use me! Im so
exited I can hardly write (page 286) This was in the beginning when all Charlie wanted was to be
smart and be given a chance to be in the experiment. This quote shows how happy and excited Charlie
was when he was told that he would be used. Charlie carries this excitement through most of the story,
meaning that he continues to be happy. Once his intelligence begins to

John Dewey s Views On Politics And Human Endeavor
In Pratt s informative book, claiming that a line of thought originated in large part with Northeastern
U.S. Indian tribes is supposed to reflect well on that line of thought or on those tribes or both. That
line of thought is roughly the thought of John Dewey, taken here as a culmination and summary of
American Pragmatism. The characterization of pragmatism offered in the book is friendly toward it.
Pragmatism, on Pratt s view, consists of four commitments to principles. These put the American
school of thought in opposition to standard tendencies in the traditions of Western philosophy. 1.
Things are what they do; or, they are the interactions they have with other things, rather than being
just, ever, self contained entities for abstract ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It also leaves out the serious and ongoing critiques of pragmatist arguments. Some of those are more
serious than those Pratt does mention, such as Russell s objection to James view of truth. James
proposes that truth is something to be judged in relation to human interests at issue, and Russell
objects to the opening for relativism if those interests are thought a legitimate part of appraising truth.
But some Wittgensteinian critiques are targeted at assumptions shared both by the pragmatists and
their opponents and are based on concerns much like some of those which motivate the pragmatists
suspicion of de contextualized abstraction and of the lines of thought leading up to the posing of
philosophical questions. These objections, then, start with motivations like the pragmatists, but wind
up with accusations that the pragmatists critiques are shallow and that the pragmatists wind up being
driven by abstract pictures and lose track of examples. Because Pratt assumes throughout pragmatists
are on the side of the angels, his book does not help those who might worry about that assumption. A
detailed critique of the arguments for tracing all four commitments to American Indian sources would
be worthwhile, but let s take a look at one for which the stakes are high. Consider the argument that

The notorious Parchman plantation existed until 1972.
During the post Civil War period, Jim Crow racial segregation laws were imposed on every state, with
legal segregation in schools, housing, marriages and many other aspects of daily life. Today, a new set
of markedly racist laws is imposing slave labor and sweatshops on the criminal justice system, now
known as the prison industry complex, comments the Left Business Observer.
Who is investing? At least 37 states have legalized the contracting of prison labor by private
corporations that mount their operations inside state prisons. The list of such companies contains the
cream of U.S. corporate society: IBM, Boeing, Motorola, Microsoft, AT T, Wireless, Texas Instrument,
Dell, Compaq, Honeywell, Hewlett Packard, Nortel, Lucent Technologies, 3Com, Intel, Northern
Telecom, TWA, Nordstrom s, Revlon, Macy s, Pierre Cardin, Target Stores, and many more. All of
these businesses are excited about the economic boom generation by prison labor. Just between 1980
and 1994, profits went up from $392 million to $1.31 billion. Inmates in state penitentiaries generally
receive the minimum wage for their work, but not all; in Colorado, they get about $2 per hour, well
under the minimum. And in privately run prisons, they receive as little as 17 cents per hour for a
maximum of six hours a day, the equivalent of $20 per month.

An Analysis of Important Motifs in Sound and Editing
Sound and editing are both very crucial concepts in film. In Tom Tykwer s Run Lola Run (1998), the
way the narrative structure is set up can make the differentiation of diegetic and non diegetic sound
difficult for the viewer. The relationship between sound and the narrative structure, however, also
makes the viewer more aware of the film s artificiality. In King Hu s Come Drink With Me (1966), we
see how the major motifs of editing emphasize the unrealistic and fantasy qualities of the characters.
Tom Tykwer s Run Lola Run is a change in the structure of narrative as we commonly see it. A
standard narrative consists of a beginning where there is a sense of normality, a disruption of that
normality that transitions into the middle, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These screams have an interesting connection to the rhythm of the film; each scream happens at a
different point in time. In the first scenario, it happens in the beginning, then in the middle during the
second scenario, and at the end in the final scenario.
The music interacts with dialogue in the film; the techno beat is, at times, accompanied by vocals,
which correspond with not only what is happening in the scene, but also the internal diegetic dialogue
another important motif.
Never, Never, Never, Never, letting go/Never giving up, Never saying no/Just go, go, I never stop/I
never think/To do, do, do, the right thing/I want to go/I want to fight/I want to rush/I want to run/I
want to see you again/Under the setting sun/We will kiss/We will laugh/We will be a part/Of what is
said to be/A union of the heart
These vocals become more prevalent in the second part of the film, after Lola failed the first time. We
understand from the visuals and Lola s internal thoughts that she means to succeed. Noise is possibly
one of the most important parts of sound in this film. There are so many different motifs, the most
prevalent being the clicking sound. The film opens with the credits and the ticking of clocks. The
ticking of the clocks is both diegetic and nondiegetic; At times when the clocks are shown onscreen, it
is obvious that those sounds are heard by the characters whereas often the ticking is used as not only a
reminder of time, but also

Urbanization Study in India
CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION
1.1 BACKGROUND
Urbanization is the defining phenomenon of the 21st century. For the first time in history, more than
half the world s population lives in cities, with 90 percent of urban growth taking place in the
developing world. Increasing population growth in the existing urban areas and rapid urbanisation is
leading to need for increased land area to accommodate the growing population. Rapid urbanization is
turning villages are into towns, towns into big cities and cities in to metropolitan cities. This is leading
to various emerging challenges that urban areas today have to address like inadequate housing,
inefficient physical infrastructure like water, sanitation, transport, inadequate social infrastructure like
education and health, spiralling construction costs and land prices.
Therefore the critical planning is required for all the necessary inputs including the infrastructure,
social amenities and land. It is projected that over the next 20 years, India is going to witness nearly 2
billion additional urban population in the existing urban areas, while one billion already live in slums.
However, only by efficient planning and management can rapidly growing cities be able to harness
this potential, accommodate new urban dwellers, and adequately deliver basic services and
infrastructure (World Bank Institute).
The challenge is to address and effectively manage the pressure on cities and towns and to manage
new growth. There is also a need for

How Racism Caused By Colonization, Age, And Gender Have A...
In 1958 Martin Luther King Jr. was quoted saying Hate begets hate; violence begets violence .
Unfortunately for some, the violence and hate they receive begets violence and hate deep into
themselves. For the Inuit people of northern Canada, racism presented through colonial violence and
acculturation has caused a crippling affliction. The effect of this violence has manifested itself into
various other forms of viciousness; domestic violence, substance abuse, neglect and self harm are only
a few. The perpetuation of this malicious cycle has created an exponential rise in violence against
oneself. Additionally, the process of growing up and creating an identity is extremely difficult.
Whereas, developing into an adult when faced with violence is exceptionally harder. Many young
Inuit males succumb to this hardship. In comparison to the general population, adolescent Inuit males
have a disproportionately high suicide rate. Through an intersectional analysis, I will examine the how
racism caused by colonization, age, and gender have caused one of the highest suicide rates in the
world.
The act of committing suicide in Inuit communities has changed drastically. Previously, an ill or elder
person would take their lives. This would be considered dying with ancient dignity as a response to
the burden they may put on their families (Kral, 2013). There were very few recorded suicides
amongst Inuit youth before the 1980 s (Working Group, 2009). The figures began to rise in the

Impact Of Globalization On The Airline Industry
Introduction
1 This essay will assess how globalisation has impacted on the airline industry using British Airways
as an example to illustrate this change had on the industry as a whole. This essay will attempt to show
how the airline industry and British Airways in particular coped with thesee change and how
neoliberalism thinking allowed and supported this fundamental change to happen.
Critical analysis of external and internal environment using strategy tools has also been considered.
This essay will outline the fundementals of globalism as well as Neoliberalism, the political thinking
behind it. The research includes a review of academic books, journals, articles and websites. It also
covers the critical account of globalization on British Airways stating its strengths and weaknesses .
The Airline industry is a large and constantly growing industry. It facilitates economic growth,
international investment and world trade and is therefore central to other industries as well for
globalisation. There are various forces which lead to globalisation in airline industry. Key drivers of
change are forces likely to affect the structure of an industry; sector or market. (1).

Societal Value In Beowulf Essay
In Beowulf, attention is given to descriptive visuals presented as a means to demonstrate the scale of
epic narrative the poem operates on. The visualization in the poem, however serves as dual purpose of
illustrating not only the landscape and characters for its audiences but also their personal image to
society. Gold, while first mentioned in the opening lines as a supplementary visual for the ensign of a
heroes shroud, progresses quickly to become an embedded value in the world of Beowulf (Line 45,
page 50). While most people would consider the application of gold in the text, as a simple model of
economic value for the Geats and Danes, is in truth a symbolic use of societal value. Societal value, in
Beowulf is seen through the use of imposing cultural normality s and customs, in which the characters
find themselves obeying and also embracing at every turn. For characters such as King Hrothgar, he
uses gold as a means to demonstrate wealth and power by offering Beowulf physical gold as a sign of
his societal accomplishment. As the text progresses, gold is symbolically applied as apart of the
characters traits and power, with the title character of Beowulf proactively attempting retrieve gold
from a dragon as means to maintain his societal duties as a lord to his people. When understanding the
further development of societal standards, Gold can also present a symbolic value of peace in society
as King Hrothgar attempts to plead for peace from Grendel by offering it

Human Relationship With Waterfowl
Humans have a very influential relation ship with waterfowl, theres two sides to it. On one side
humans have completely changed waterfowls natural migrating path. With the modern expansion of
cities, certain species have adapted and now use them as refuges, such as the Canada goose. Through
climate change humans have disrupted waterfowls natural patterns of migration, and most species are
un able to adapt quickly enough to the rapidly changing temperatures. The other side of humans
relationship with waterfowl is that through our modern agriculture practices waterfowl don t
necessarily need to migrate to get food, only to leave the cold. Most waterfowl species take advantage
of the surplus grain left in agriculture fields, some of which have became overpopulated and harm
other species of waterfowl. With the increase of agriculture fields, wetlands have been destroyed and
in tern waterfowl have lost a significant number of areas to breed and reproduce in. There is a
overpopulation of certain species and a decrease in wetlands, it is important to stop both of these
issues otherwise certain species will be taken over by. Hunters and bird watchers are those who are
primarily concerned with these issues, but other out doors mans such as fisherman should be
concerned. As shown in The Role of Waterfowl in Lower Great Lakes Aquatic Food Webs by M. L.
Schummer and S. A. Petrie, waterfowl play a important role in maintaining the food webs for fish. It is

The 12 step program gives the impression that it has the capability of helping clients through alcohol
abuse in its systematic, recovery focused, and empathetic approach. AA s 12 steps, from having
admitted we were powerless over alcohol... to having a spiritual awakening as a result of these steps
helps guide a person from alcoholism to sobriety (Alcoholics Anonymous [AA], 2001, pp. 59 60). The

Sexual Love And The Freedom And Happiness Shared By Two...
The Song portrays the virtue of sexual love and the freedom and happiness shared by two lovers. The
Song speaks of a sexual love between man and woman who stands equally before each other in the
privacy of their intimacy with no consciousness of the hierarchies of their public world. Equal
standing in its most encompassing meaning neither one is superior nor inferior, but equally ready to
initiate and invite, equally desiring and eager to please and be pleased, both transparent about fantasies
and pleasures received, equally vocal to endear and arouse, same sense of wholeness and brokenness,
of shamelessness and abandon. Passion is matched with passion; longings are returned with the same
intensity no holding back and no concern for anything except to ravish each other, both take pleasure,
and absorbed in each other in their own Eden. Thus, sex is honorable, pleasurable, and paradisal. The
Song is devoid of any patriarchal mindset; the woman exhibits a consciousness of being highly
valued. If she s in a patriarchal society, then she has learned to be counter cultural, just as the Hebrew
Bible is counter cultural with ANE and other ancient literature. She neither sees herself oppressed nor
in a subordinate position. She values her sensuality and sexuality and sees herself as good as anyone
else, even if her patriarchal world refuses to offer equal opportunity for her kind. Or perhaps she truly
lives in a heterarchical culture? She does not strive to be equal with men

Descriptive Essay About Hotel
Today i went to the coolest hotel ever! I couldn t believe what i was seeing, it was amazing!
Everything was made out of glass, but that s not all. Every room had some sort of waterfall, river,
creek, or body of water in it. When I got off the plane all I wanted to do was go inside. The outside
was gorgeous, it was all glass and surrounding the hotel was the pacific ocean .When you walk in you
see that the floor is made of glass, the walls are made of glass, the ceiling is made of glass, even the
tables and chairs are made of glass. Right beside the front desk is a big waterfall with beautiful blue
water pouring out of it, at the end of the waterfall there is a place where you can sit down. The
concierge leads you up to your room and you have to walk up these beautiful glass stairs. In my room
there was a soft blue rug covering the whole floor but still being able to see the floor was glass
underneath. There was a king size bed and on the opposite wall there was a fireplace with a tv on the
mantle. I turned and noticed there were two other doors in my room, so I walked into the first door
and everything was black.. I turned on the light and there was a huge waterfall with a swimming pool
at the end of it. It looked like the one downstairs but it was a little bit smaller than that one. I decided i
would go into the other room and it was the bathroom. The floor also had a blue rug but everything in
the bathroom was glass and i mean everything. The toilet was glass, the

Social Hierarchy In High School
Social Hierarchy Of High School High School can be the perfect place for you; you can find right
where you click. That s where the High School social hierarchy comes into play. People can mostly be
put into certain personality categories, but some people can jump from one group to another. These
categories are as follows: The jokers, the snitches(AKA the teacher s pets), the backgrounders, the
friendlies, the suppliers, the losers(the name for the losers will be explained in their paragraph.), the
nerds, and then cools. These categories do not define whom you can hang out with. First up is the
jokers. These are the kids who always somehow manage to make everything into a joke and always
try to get the teacher off track when in class. The jokers are almost always getting into some kind of
trouble, for they never know when to stop joking or playing. These kids are almost always in
detention, suspended, or late for class. They are the absolute polar opposite of the snitches(AKA the
teacher s pets). Jokers are never be caught dead sucking up to a teacher just to be in their good graces.
Next is the snitches(AKA the teacher s pets); they are never in trouble. These kids despise getting in
trouble and having to go to detention. They are never late to class, and always have their work done as
soon as possible(they never leave work until the last minute unless absolutely necessary).
Snitches(AKA the teacher s pets) hate the bad or troubled kids. They think they are no good,

Space Exploration Is A Waste Of Money
Have you ever wondered about the possibilities of finding a planet like Earth which can sustain life?
Through the continuation of space exploration, we can continue to look for earth like planets and learn
much more about the mysteries of the universe. Space programs and exploration have helped mankind
to develop useful knowledge in different fields such as digital technology and medicine. According to
Mindy Townsend, a writer for the social networking website Care2, we have to give credit to NASA
for the development of the cell phone camera, which was developed at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory
(JPL), one of NASA s research centers. (par. 2). Likewise, Townsend also gives credit to NASA for
the technology used in the development of CAT scanners, microscopy, and radiography (par. 6).
However, many people still argue that space exploration is a waste of money because they claim that
money can be spent on other priorities such as education and health care. Even though space
exploration is expensive, the United States government should continue funding space exploration to
promote innovation in technology, find extraterrestrial natural resources in the near future, and protect
planet earth from outer space threats like space debris and excessive solar radiation.
Through innovation in technology, the space exploration programs of the United States have achieved
several benefits for today s society. Many studies have shown that space programs have encouraged
innovation of various

John Knowles s A Separate Peace
In the first few chapters of A Separate Peace alone, Gene Forrester is John Knowles. In the first
chapter, Gene is a grown man fifteen years in the future. He describes Devon School in the summer
session in 1942. Devon School is rarely mentioned in the book. In A Separate Peace: The War Within
the chronology states that in 1943, a year older than the book, he too went to a summer session at
Exeter Academy (Bryant, xi). Knowles, too had a tree that he and other boys jumped off of, but he
broke his foot and had to be on crutches (Bryant, xi). This book is a rough autobiography of his life.
Gene and the author John Knowles will be explained as WWII in their eyes, the symbolism of
Phineas, and the school and the older Gene. In A Separate Peace, the summer session is for seniors
who are training for the war. Gene and Phineas are sixteen and not eligible for the draft. As the book
states, they jump off the tree used for diving in the river. Gene says in the book The tree was
tremendous, an irate, steely black steeple beside the river. I d be damned if I climbed it (Knowles, 14).
Similar to the book, Knowles probably thought the same thing after he broke his foot.
In The War Within, Bryant states that A Separate Peace can be read as a war book. With this in mind,
it was only about two boys who were not of drafting age, but one to two years before it. In the summer
session, the teachers are a little less strict, but only to the boys under eighteen. Even then, the boys

The Teachings of Intertwined Texts
Intertextuality and Frankenstein
Mary Shelley s Frankenstein is a work of radical intertextuality, as its very title Frankenstein: or, the
modern Prometheus indicates. No other novel of the period is so imbued with the voices of
contemporary poets: in her pages Mary Shelley quotes directly from Byron, Coleridge, Wordsworth,
and Percy Bysshe Shelley. Moreover, the Creature learns language and cultural forms from four major
texts: Plutarch s Lives, Milton s Paradise Lost , Goethe s Sorrows of Young Werther, and Volney s
Ruins of Empire that, for better or worse, shape his destiny. Thus, it becomes an exemplary text for
scholarly inquiry. Even prior to opening the book, Mary Shelley incorporates intertextuality. ... Show

It includes letters from Werther to his friend Winhelm, about the series of events regarding his love
triangle and the roller coaster of emotions it causes. Werther decides he would rather die than remain
miserable, so he commits suicide. As the creature reads this novel, he begins to develop a sense of
humanity and emotions as he starts to relate to others. Werther makes the creature question his role in
society, and makes him begin to comprehend depression and despair. Many deaths occur throughout
the story, including Werther s suicide. All the deaths were due to the loss of companionship, which
amplifies the role of nature in Frankenstein and reiterates the importance of relationships. This story
calls to question the possibility of the creature taking his own life.
As I read, however, I applied much personally to my own feelings and condition. I found myself
similar, yet at the same time strangely unlike to the beings concerning whom I read, and to whose
conversation I was a listener. I sympathized with, and partly understood them, but I was unformed in
mind; I was dependent on none and related to none. The path of my departure was free ; and there was
none to lament my annihilation... What did this mean? Who was I? What was I? Whence did I come?
What was my destination? These questions continually recurred, but I was unable to solve them.

Capitalism In Norris s Mcteague, By Frank Norris
In the reading, McTeague, by Frank Norris, a dentist named McTeague watches the day to day lives of
San Francisco s various laborers through the bay window of his Dental Parlor. McTeague noticed that
the street was always occupied by people with different kinds of people at specific times of the day.
Since San Francisco is described as full of energy because of the people in it, it is inferred that the city
has a personal, tied connection to its inhabitants. Frank Norris portrayed the city as full of liveliness
and excitement to showcase how San Francisco itself is its own main character with human like
characteristics, ultimately suggesting that capitalism makes a city thrive. First and foremost, the
chronological timed schedule in which the people of San Francisco rely on is shown as a continuous
cycle that keeps the city up and running. The narrator states, A little later, following in the path of the
day laborers, came the clerks and shopgirls [...] always in a hurry, glancing apprehensively at the
powerhouse clock. (155) Not only does this quote show that the city is a busy area where countless
things are happening, but also shows how it runs on a clock that lets people know where they have to
be and when. The powerhouse clock is a symbol of how San Francisco has a biological clock similar
to what humans have. Norris writes that the street wakes breakfasts and sleeps in order to show that
the street is comparable to a living organism. Through the usage and

The Benefits Of Live Kidney Transplants
During my first clinical rotation I was assigned a patient who, down to his last kidney, was living with
end stage renal disease. I noticed quickly that this man, one of ethnical minority, relied on his family
members to give him information and advice pertaining to his treatment, as he himself seemed
ignorant to his own medical problems. I found his case fascinating, as he not only had one kidney, but
he was also suffering many other debilitating medical crisis , all brought on by his failing renal
system. I distinctly remember wondering why transplantation was not being discussed, or if it was
even an option for him. My interest led me to discovering a disproportionate disparity among those
who receive live donor kidney transplants, referred to as LDKT, in the United States.
It is first important to understand that live kidney transplants have many benefits when compared to
deceased donor transplants. Among these benefits include prolonged survival rates of up to 18 years.
Also, living donor kidneys begin functioning almost immediately after surgery, and, lastly, there is the
added benefit of bypassing a waiting list, limiting time spent, if any, on dialysis (Mysel, 2016).
Interestingly, the majority of recipients of LDKT transplants in the United States are white. In
juxtaposition, renal disease is actually more prominent in minorities such as African Americans and
Hispanics. End Stage Renal Disease has an incidence rate three times higher in African Americans
than

Why Is Fighting In Hockey Wrong
Fighting in Hockey: Wrong, or Right?
Ice hockey is a full contact sport played by individuals skating on ice, carrying sticks to push a
vulcanized rubber puck around the ice in an attempt to shoot the puck into an opposing teams net to
score goals. Tempers flare consequently fights break out between players battling one another for
supremacy on the ice. Fighting in the game of ice hockey has been a part of the game since the
inception of the National Hockey League, known as the NHL, in 1917. Fighting is officially
prohibited, but it is an unofficially condoned part of professional hockey, in current professional
hockey leagues a player engaged in a fight will serve a five to ten minute penalty for fighting. The
prevalence of fighting in ice ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There comes into question the moral code that fighting in hockey brings about, what kind of example
is being presented to the public and children in general? There is a discussion that these continued
displays of violence send a message to the public that contradicts many values that are instilled from a
young age. Author Charles Gillis, argues that punching another person is no way to resolve frustration.
He goes on to question why is it thought reasonable in hockey and more to the point, is fighting not
antithetical to the concept of athletic competition (51)? Children see the glorified aspect of fighting in
hockey, consequently they do not always recognize the negative impact it has in other areas of their
life. [In the game of hockey and life] what are rules and officials for, if not to prevent players from
taking justice into their own hands? Why should they serve this purpose in other contact sports, but
not hockey (Gillis 51)? Opponents to fighting in hockey believe the violence in ice hockey is
unnecessary and wrong.
Antagonists of fighting in hockey believe it is wrong for the reason that there is no correlation
between fighting and winning games. A research project done in the NHL, looking at 4,240 NHL
game summaries from five consecutive seasons were examined to determine the outcome of team s
overall standings at the end of a season while looking at the number of fighting penalty minutes
served, and the number of goals scored by the teams. The findings, published in the Perceptual and
Motor skills journal, assessed

Du Pont Kevlar Aramid Industrial Fiber (Abridged) Essay
The case Du Pont Kevlar Aramid Industrial Fiber (Abridged) states the development history of Du
Pont s products, and focuses on investing and marketing of Kevlar.
Kevlar is a fiber which Howard W. Swank, general manager of Du Pont s Textile Fibers Department,
and other Textile Fibers Department s managers were keen on. Kevlar is based on the former products
of Du Pont, such as nylon, and Nomex Aramid fiber. Kevlar s development was closely related to that
of Nomex. It is a much stronger and stiff fiber than nylon and steel, and can be stable at high
temperatures. After the Fiber B first came out in 1960s, Du Pont found some problems with it. Two
years later, Fiber B 1, which is also called Kevlar Aramid fiber, came out with better ... Show more

In 1969, the Textile Fiber Department sent Fiber B s samples to tire companies and aerospace
companies, and it got good responses. When Fiber B 1 was developed, the Textile Fiber Department
thought they understood how customers in the tire and aerospace industries would evaluated the new,
better material, so the department did not do any preliminary assessments. Even though Fiber B 1 is
superior to Fiber B, it still needs to be tested before putting it into the market in order to make sure it
works well. The customers feedback is very important to a new product. Du Pont did not continue to
do the sample tests and sample research which may cause some problems.
When Du Pont invented Kevlar, it did not have a specific target market, and it just followed its history
market without creativity. Du Pont always wanted to produce a stronger fiber than before, and its
market has always been tire and aerospace industries. After the promotion, Du Pont focused on the tire
cord market. I think Du Pont chose the right market. The tire market is an existing market with large
potential. From 1970 to 1973, the tire cord consumption was increasing from $539 million of pounds
to $683 million of pounds. As radial tires entered the tire market, the older materials could not satisfy
the properties of them, and only Kevlar and steel can be used in radial tires. It seems that Kevlar just
needed to compete with steel. This is a

Internal Factors And Informational Influences In Consumer...
Introduction
Internal influence and external influence are the two main factors that contribute to the study in how
individuals, groups buy, use and dispose of goods and services. Each of them consists of the varieties
of factors affecting consumers in different aspects. Among these factors, reference group has been
chosen to become the main topic of this research in order to define and analyse how it influences in
consumers purchase decision. The research will focus on the informational influence which is one of
the important categories in reference groups to explain in depth how marketers use it to recognize and
satisfy consumers needs and wants. Having the knowledge of informational influence will help
people, especially marketers understand why some particular groups behave as they do.
A reference group is a group whose significant perspectives an individual takes on in forming beliefs,
attitudes, and behaviours. Reference group influence is described as a three dimensional concept,
consisting of informational, utilitarian, and value expressive influences (Selvakumar and Keeshan
2010, 6). Informational influence provides with product or issue related information among group
members so that information can assist members in decision making processes when they are faced
with choices (Babin and Harris 2014, 151).

  • 2. Teotihuacan Artistic Influence Teotihuacan: Sphere of Artistic Influence In the Basin of Mexico about 7,000 ft above sea level lies the ruins of the ancient city of Teotihuacan, the place of the gods, which flourished from 100 650 A.D. Little is known about this city s mysterious demise of power, besides evidence of what appears to be ritualized burnings at major temples and centers. The impact of Teotihuacan throughout Mesoamerica is evident, and the most obvious indicator of this influence is through artistic style. Just how far was the expansion of Teotihuacan s artistic influence across Mesoamerica? I will use a variety of sources not only to define the Teotihuacano art style as a whole, but also to map the path of its successful impact, (and also resistance,) across subsequent Mesoamerican civilizations, focusing principally on the Maya. The architectural style known as talud tablero marks the presence of Teotihuacan abroad more distinctly than any other aspects of its art. The sloping talud (talus) supports the vertical tablero (entablature), which is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By 450 AD, versatile mold made ceramics were beginning to be mass produced, stamped and distributed out of Teotihuacan workshops, believed to be located north of the Citadel. These host figures have been found as far as Guatemala (900 miles away). Brightly polychromed urns and incense burners sporting human and animal faces are among the larger ceramics that survive from this era. The Teotihuacanos may have been able to take these anthromorphic assemblages apart and reconfigure them into different deities from the constituent parts. (Miller, Mary Ellen 2012) One large urn from Teotihuacan displays the image of an owl deity that served the city s war cult. Owl depictions have been tied to war iconography all across Mesoamerica because of their associations with nighttime and the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. In The Skin Of A Lion Essay The Unknown History The genre of historical fiction is loved by many authors as it allows them to use the past as an inspiration while writing a fictional story that will captivate the readers. In the novel In the Skin of a Lion by Michael Ondaatje, the rich history is explored throughout the novel with the theme of the unfair treatment of immigrants, the construction of both the Bloor Street Viaduct and the Queen Street Waterworks and the character of Rowland Harris. By looking at the historical facts in the novel, we can see why it s considered a historical fiction novel, which most readers fail to recognize; this is important because Ondaatje chooses this writing style so that the readers can learn about the rich history of Toronto through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the novel, Ondaatje names him Rowland Harris and he s a secondary character in the story. However, that being said, Rowland Harris is portrayed as a visionary, a dreamer and an achiever. The author does a great job of bringing this character in the story all while maintaining some great accomplishments in his life. Roland Harris envisioned a lot of aspects that Toronto now has. During Harris and Patrick s conversation at The Queen Street Waterworks, Harris says It turned out I was dreaming about projects for the city that had been rejected over the years. Wonderful things that were said to be too vulgar or expensive, too this too that. (Ondaatje 237) Roland Harris was a great architect for the city of Toronto, he was a visionary and wanted to make the city of Toronto grow. This is directly linked to Toronto s history and Ondaatje uses that secondary character who the readers don t see a lot throughout the book to talk about someone who dreamed big for Toronto. Harris even says to Patrick I mean the Bloor Street Viaduct and this building here are just a hint of what could have been done here. (Ondaatje 237) For someone who was a visionary for Toronto, the sky would have been the limit if he had the money and the right to keep making the city grow. The Character of Harris has played a valuable part in the way Toronto is shaped today and Ondaatje knew ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Aztecs Essay The Aztecs encountered the conquistadors, the leader of the group was a Spanish named Hernan Cortés. In 1521, the Aztecs caused their enemies to suffer major losses. Though the Aztecs didn t all die to the war, the Aztecs mostly died out due to the diseases that the Spaniards brought over. The Aztecs had pyramids comparable to the Egyptians, but on top of these pyramids the Aztecs built temples. These temples on the pyramids were used to worship the Aztecs three more important gods, Huitzilopochtli, Quetzalcoatl and Tezcatlipoca. But not only did they have house shrines, they also had schools, sacred pools, altars, gardens, and dormitories. Some temples had arsenals inside and ball courts. There were also large buildings, like the Emperor s palace. The palace consisted of four main rooms, balls courts, a ceremonial plaza, and even chinampas. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the Badianus Manuscript, there is a codex that explained how to use plants and trees to create treatments and ailments which contained over 180 recipes. Herbalists that used these recipes were called the tictil . Also these recipes actually had some scientific backing behind them. Another advancement was the calendars the Aztecs used. These calendars were called Tonalpohualli (day count 260 days) and Xiuhpohualli (solar year 365 days ). Even though these calendars had different day counts, they coincided after 52 years. The Aztecs had a writing system consisted of ideograms and pictograms, and was very similar to the Mayan system. To understand these pictograms you needed to also understand Aztec cultural conventions. An example of a pictogram would be a corpse wrapped in bandages, which represented death. This would be a reason that the Aztecs were better than the Incas since the Incas didn t have a writing system at all. Aztec literature was written in paper made of Agave plant fiber and were folded like a fan. These books were called codices (or a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Medea The Rose The play of Medea and the film The Name of the Rose are two very complex pieces of literature. They have many themes that flow through them and may require one to watch each piece more than once. However, there are similar themes that can be identified between the two. For instance, they both have themes of narration, murder, pre meditated murder, ego, and lust to name a few. I will analyze the themes of narration and murder between Euripidies Medea and The Name of the Rose . The nurse of Medea opens the play with the narration of the events that took place just before the play actually begins and sets the tone for the rest of the play. Human Trafficking Is The Modern Slavery When forced into sex trafficking statistics state that 67 percent of prisoners are forced into labor, 55 percent are women and girls, and 26 percent are children that endure the conditions and harshness of this generation s modern slavery. Human trafficking is the modern slavery throughout the globe and 27,000 cases have been reported to the NHTRC hotline in the last eight years alone (Human Trafficking). Human trafficking is of all ages, all genders, and anyone can be forced into the labor. There are some movies that shine light on this topic, Taken for example seems to be one of the closest movies to the ongoings of sex trafficking. Two women were taken from their vacation and one of the girls fathers goes after her and tries to track her down. We saw from the beginning how the young man, who was to abduct them, was able to learn where they lived, that they were tourist, and that they were alone with a whole floor to themselves. It was an easy catch and the two ladies did not even know what they had done by sprouting what they thought was harmless information. Women are seen as weak and property, we can see this through out social media, even though there is talk of equality amongst men and women in this generation it is clear that women are mere objects amongst a large group of men. Human trafficking is a by far one of the cruelest acts, yet not until 2003 was it established as a type type A felony (Children: Not for Sale). Minors under the age of 18 years forced ... Hausman test Hausman test which usually accepted method of selecting between random and fixed effects which is running on regression equation. Hausman (1978) provided a tectonic change in interpretation related to the specification of econometric models. The seminal insight that one could compare two models which were both consistent under the null spawned a test which was both simple and powerful. The so called Hausman test has been applied and extended theoretically in a variety of econometric domains. We focus on the construction of the Hausman test in a variety of panel data settings, and in particular, the recent adaptation of the Hausman test to semi parametric and nonparametric panel data models. A formal application of the Hausman test is given focusing on testing between fixed and random effects within a panel data model. Mostly fixed effects are accepted way to run with panel data as they always present consistent outcomes but may not be the most effective way to implement. On the other hand, random effects usually provide to the researcher better P values as it considered to be a more active estimator, so researcher can study random effects if it is reasonable to do so. Moreover, Hausman test choose a more effective model compared to a less efficient as consistent model should presents robust estimates and consistent results owing to the more efficient model. • 11. Narby Research Chapter 5 Summary Objective: In this chapter Narby researches past findings of intelligence in animals and plants. Some examples include the self awareness of dolphins and crows creating tools. Narby s definition of intelligence seems to change to being capable of consciously making decisions. Subjective: One part of this chapter I was able to associate to was the part about parrots answering questions. I could relate to this because I remember seeing a parrot identify shapes once while I was on vacation. Initially it blew my mind, but I later convinced myself it was a routine, however now it makes sense, parrots are capable of learning. i) The problem with these definitions of intelligence, is that they can only be applied to humans. So based off of these definitions, no other species can be intelligent even if they act in such ways that would require intelligence (43 44) ii) Monod didn t believe there was intelligence in nature. Narby mentions how Giurfa s studies showed that bees could grasp abstract concepts like identifying corresponding images to find a reward. The bees were even able to figure out to recognize and match new patterns after the original image was changed. Subjective: I am conflicted about this experiment because it s cool and cruel at the same time. I think it s cool that bees are able to learn to match corresponding images to find food, meaning that they are able to learn new processes for finding food. However, it is also cruel because Narby mentions that once the bees got to the food, they repeatedly tried flying straight up, hitting a plexiglass cover, instead of exiting through the tubes. This means that even though the bees were successful, they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Character Analysis Of Flowers For Algernon Flowers for Algernon In the short story, Flowers for Algernon , Daniel Keyes writes about an intellectually disabled man named Charlie Gordon. Charlie s goal is to become intelligent. Charlie volunteered to be in a medical trial that would help him triple in intelligence. The operation did work, and Charlie s intelligence tripled very quickly. However, very soon after, his intelligence began to quickly decline. Charlie ended up with the same amount of intelligence that he started with. Charlie Gordon is not better off as a result of the surgery. This was the first time that Charlie truly showed his emotions and understood how it felt to regret something. After the operation, Charlie felt things like shame, regret and loneliness. However, before, he didn t feel any of these. Such emotions can make someone depressed, which is exactly what Charlie was. Daniel Keyes illustrates this when Charlie says It is hard to throw away thoughts of suicide. (page 302) This shows just how serious Charlie s condition really was at the end of the story. For these reasons, Charlie is more aware of the things that he does wrong after the surgery. To continue, Charlie has much less hope after the operation. Once Charlie realizes that his intelligence is likely to decrease juristically, he starts to lose hope in ever staying as smart as he used to be. In the beginning, he was always so hopeful and trusting of everyone around him and himself. Daniel Keyes describes this idea when Charlie says Their going to use me! Im so exited I can hardly write (page 286) This was in the beginning when all Charlie wanted was to be smart and be given a chance to be in the experiment. This quote shows how happy and excited Charlie was when he was told that he would be used. Charlie carries this excitement through most of the story, meaning that he continues to be happy. • 13. John Dewey s Views On Politics And Human Endeavor In Pratt s informative book, claiming that a line of thought originated in large part with Northeastern U.S. Indian tribes is supposed to reflect well on that line of thought or on those tribes or both. That line of thought is roughly the thought of John Dewey, taken here as a culmination and summary of American Pragmatism. The characterization of pragmatism offered in the book is friendly toward it. Pragmatism, on Pratt s view, consists of four commitments to principles. These put the American school of thought in opposition to standard tendencies in the traditions of Western philosophy. 1. Things are what they do; or, they are the interactions they have with other things, rather than being just, ever, self contained entities for abstract ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It also leaves out the serious and ongoing critiques of pragmatist arguments. Some of those are more serious than those Pratt does mention, such as Russell s objection to James view of truth. James proposes that truth is something to be judged in relation to human interests at issue, and Russell objects to the opening for relativism if those interests are thought a legitimate part of appraising truth. But some Wittgensteinian critiques are targeted at assumptions shared both by the pragmatists and their opponents and are based on concerns much like some of those which motivate the pragmatists suspicion of de contextualized abstraction and of the lines of thought leading up to the posing of philosophical questions. These objections, then, start with motivations like the pragmatists, but wind up with accusations that the pragmatists critiques are shallow and that the pragmatists wind up being driven by abstract pictures and lose track of examples. Because Pratt assumes throughout pragmatists are on the side of the angels, his book does not help those who might worry about that assumption. A detailed critique of the arguments for tracing all four commitments to American Indian sources would be worthwhile, but let s take a look at one for which the stakes are high. • 15. An Analysis of Important Motifs in Sound and Editing Sound and editing are both very crucial concepts in film. In Tom Tykwer s Run Lola Run (1998), the way the narrative structure is set up can make the differentiation of diegetic and non diegetic sound difficult for the viewer. The relationship between sound and the narrative structure, however, also makes the viewer more aware of the film s artificiality. In King Hu s Come Drink With Me (1966), we see how the major motifs of editing emphasize the unrealistic and fantasy qualities of the characters. Tom Tykwer s Run Lola Run is a change in the structure of narrative as we commonly see it. These screams have an interesting connection to the rhythm of the film; each scream happens at a different point in time. In the first scenario, it happens in the beginning, then in the middle during the second scenario, and at the end in the final scenario. The music interacts with dialogue in the film; the techno beat is, at times, accompanied by vocals, which correspond with not only what is happening in the scene, but also the internal diegetic dialogue another important motif. Never, Never, Never, Never, letting go/Never giving up, Never saying no/Just go, go, I never stop/I never think/To do, do, do, the right thing/I want to go/I want to fight/I want to rush/I want to run/I want to see you again/Under the setting sun/We will kiss/We will laugh/We will be a part/Of what is said to be/A union of the heart These vocals become more prevalent in the second part of the film, after Lola failed the first time. • 16. Urbanization Study in India CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION 1.1 BACKGROUND Urbanization is the defining phenomenon of the 21st century. For the first time in history, more than half the world s population lives in cities, with 90 percent of urban growth taking place in the developing world. Increasing population growth in the existing urban areas and rapid urbanisation is leading to need for increased land area to accommodate the growing population. Rapid urbanization is turning villages are into towns, towns into big cities and cities in to metropolitan cities. This is leading to various emerging challenges that urban areas today have to address like inadequate housing, inefficient physical infrastructure like water, sanitation, transport, inadequate social infrastructure like education and health, spiralling construction costs and land prices. Therefore the critical planning is required for all the necessary inputs including the infrastructure, social amenities and land. It is projected that over the next 20 years, India is going to witness nearly 2 billion additional urban population in the existing urban areas, while one billion already live in slums. However, only by efficient planning and management can rapidly growing cities be able to harness this potential, accommodate new urban dwellers, and adequately deliver basic services and infrastructure (World Bank Institute). The challenge is to address and effectively manage the pressure on cities and towns and to manage new growth. There is also a need for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Unfortunately for some, the violence and hate they receive begets violence and hate deep into themselves. For the Inuit people of northern Canada, racism presented through colonial violence and acculturation has caused a crippling affliction. The effect of this violence has manifested itself into various other forms of viciousness; domestic violence, substance abuse, neglect and self harm are only a few. The perpetuation of this malicious cycle has created an exponential rise in violence against oneself. Additionally, the process of growing up and creating an identity is extremely difficult. Whereas, developing into an adult when faced with violence is exceptionally harder. Many young Inuit males succumb to this hardship. In comparison to the general population, adolescent Inuit males have a disproportionately high suicide rate. Through an intersectional analysis, I will examine the how racism caused by colonization, age, and gender have caused one of the highest suicide rates in the world. The act of committing suicide in Inuit communities has changed drastically. Previously, an ill or elder person would take their lives. This would be considered dying with ancient dignity as a response to the burden they may put on their families (Kral, 2013). There were very few recorded suicides amongst Inuit youth before the 1980 s (Working Group, 2009). The figures began to rise in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The visualization in the poem, however serves as dual purpose of illustrating not only the landscape and characters for its audiences but also their personal image to society. Gold, while first mentioned in the opening lines as a supplementary visual for the ensign of a heroes shroud, progresses quickly to become an embedded value in the world of Beowulf (Line 45, page 50). While most people would consider the application of gold in the text, as a simple model of economic value for the Geats and Danes, is in truth a symbolic use of societal value. Societal value, in Beowulf is seen through the use of imposing cultural normality s and customs, in which the characters find themselves obeying and also embracing at every turn. For characters such as King Hrothgar, he uses gold as a means to demonstrate wealth and power by offering Beowulf physical gold as a sign of his societal accomplishment. As the text progresses, gold is symbolically applied as apart of the characters traits and power, with the title character of Beowulf proactively attempting retrieve gold from a dragon as means to maintain his societal duties as a lord to his people. • 21. Human Relationship With Waterfowl Humans have a very influential relation ship with waterfowl, theres two sides to it. On one side humans have completely changed waterfowls natural migrating path. With the modern expansion of cities, certain species have adapted and now use them as refuges, such as the Canada goose. Through climate change humans have disrupted waterfowls natural patterns of migration, and most species are un able to adapt quickly enough to the rapidly changing temperatures. The other side of humans relationship with waterfowl is that through our modern agriculture practices waterfowl don t necessarily need to migrate to get food, only to leave the cold. Most waterfowl species take advantage of the surplus grain left in agriculture fields, some of which have became overpopulated and harm other species of waterfowl. With the increase of agriculture fields, wetlands have been destroyed and in tern waterfowl have lost a significant number of areas to breed and reproduce in. There is a overpopulation of certain species and a decrease in wetlands, it is important to stop both of these issues otherwise certain species will be taken over by. Hunters and bird watchers are those who are primarily concerned with these issues, but other out doors mans such as fisherman should be concerned. The Song speaks of a sexual love between man and woman who stands equally before each other in the privacy of their intimacy with no consciousness of the hierarchies of their public world. Equal standing in its most encompassing meaning neither one is superior nor inferior, but equally ready to initiate and invite, equally desiring and eager to please and be pleased, both transparent about fantasies and pleasures received, equally vocal to endear and arouse, same sense of wholeness and brokenness, of shamelessness and abandon. Passion is matched with passion; longings are returned with the same intensity no holding back and no concern for anything except to ravish each other, both take pleasure, and absorbed in each other in their own Eden. Thus, sex is honorable, pleasurable, and paradisal. The Song is devoid of any patriarchal mindset; the woman exhibits a consciousness of being highly valued. If she s in a patriarchal society, then she has learned to be counter cultural, just as the Hebrew Bible is counter cultural with ANE and other ancient literature. She neither sees herself oppressed nor in a subordinate position. She values her sensuality and sexuality and sees herself as good as anyone else, even if her patriarchal world refuses to offer equal opportunity for her kind. In A Separate Peace: The War Within the chronology states that in 1943, a year older than the book, he too went to a summer session at Exeter Academy (Bryant, xi). Knowles, too had a tree that he and other boys jumped off of, but he broke his foot and had to be on crutches (Bryant, xi). This book is a rough autobiography of his life. I d be damned if I climbed it (Knowles, 14). Similar to the book, Knowles probably thought the same thing after he broke his foot. In The War Within, Bryant states that A Separate Peace can be read as a war book. With this in mind, it was only about two boys who were not of drafting age, but one to two years before it.
