The Human Fascination Of Whales
Whales have been at the epicentre of human culture for centuries. With many different variations
spanning the globe, most cultures have had whales represented within religion. The first nations
worship orcas, whales are often highlighted in the bible and there is even a god resembling a whale in
Hinduism. The human fascination of whales has continued on into today s society. Not only are there
films in which whales are the focus, like the 1993 classic Free Willy, but there are even theme parks
like SeaWorld and MarineLand, which allow patrons to get up and close with the majestic creatures
and feel closer to the natural world. However, there is a more sinister side to these apparent parks of
joy and happiness. As expressed in the film, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But the largest storyline focused on is the oil executive J.W McGraw. A scene between McGraw and
his wife, Ruth, depict the couple eating dinner when J.W brings up the fact that the main character
Rachel Kramer asked him to use his Hoverboat to break the ice between the strait and the ice field the
whales were trapped under. He said That woman has got a hell of a big pair thinking that she can ask
me for help after the way she embarrassed me like that. I mean, she s nuts if she thinks I m going to let
some hippies use my barge to save a bunch of whales! However, J.W did not realise that Ruth had
watched a newscast on the imprisoned whales earlier, and empathized with their predicament. To
change J.W s mind she brought up his frustrations with the Greenpeace organisation. She said Is
Barrow near that Arctic wildlife reserve you re always going on about? That place you want to drill so

Washington killing me on that one, too. You know, I spent a fortune and I still can t get the votes I
need to drill. . Ruth continued to provoke his thoughts by saying Can you imagine what those people
would think if you saved those whales? . This sparked a revelation in J.W, he began to say a loud

Clarence Thrush Point Of View
The passage from from Maria Edgeworth s novel, Belinda, portrays human behavior. The passage uses
literary devices in order to create depth in a character. Edgeworth uses point of view, tone, and
language in order to give depth to the character Clarence Hervey. The passage follows the storyline of
Clarence Hervey. However, the passage is written in third person point of view. By having the passage
written in third person point of view the reader can see how the narrator feels about Clarence, but not
who Clarence actually is. It is made clear that the narrator detests Clarence within the first few lines of
the passage, Clarence Hervey might have been more than a pleasant young man, if he had not been
smitten with the desire of being thought superior in everything, and being the most admired person in
all companies. Since the passage is written in third person point of view, the reader is given a opinion
of Clarence without having any prior knowledge of who Clarence is outside of what the narrator
states. Although, by having the passage written in third person the reader is able to assume that
Clarence will be the cause of a problem for the narrator at some point in the story. The reader can infer
Clarence s future actions by how the narrator ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The tone of the passage is reflected in how nothing appears to be accomplished within the passage. He
had considerable literary talents, by which he was distinguished at oxford; but he was so dreadfully
afraid of passing for a pedant, that when he came into the company of the idle and the ignorant, he
pretended to disdain every species of knowledge. Clarence, as depicted in the quote, was dreadfully
afraid, this shows that Clarence is a hardened character, and that the narrator does not like this about
him. The fact that Clarence was too afraid to show his literary talents depicts a weakness within the
character, a longing to fit in with the rest of

Physical Therapy ( Pt ) And Occupational Therapy
Physical therapy (PT) and occupational therapy (OT) are two careers that help people heal and
rehabilitate. PTs and OTs may seem similar at a glance, but they have just as many differences. The
job descriptions and history vary, but the salary, and requirements are fairly alike. They both take
much skill and expertise, but few people actually understand the difference between the two.
Therapy is the treatment of disease or disability through rehabilitation processes. Both physical and
occupational therapists treat patients who have injuries or disabilities. A physical therapist treats
patients with specifically physical disabilities. They help patients recuperate from pain and injuries,
and they are also a huge part of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They help theses people relearn how to perform everyday activities, like getting dressed and brushing
their teeth. PTs and OTs must both be strong, encouraging, and nurturing. For the patient, being unable
to do something is frightening, and relearning how to do certain activities can be difficult. PTs and
OTs are much needed encouragers and the quality of their work has developed throughout the years.
Since day one, physical and occupational therapy have steadily progressed and evolved into crucial,
prestigious careers. Physical therapy began around 460 BC. Hippocrates used hydrotherapy, which
uses pools or water for exercises and relief of pain, and massage treatment. Many universities started
programs for massage and physical therapy. The industry grew during WWI because the war produced
many injured soldiers who were in need of therapy. In 1921, the American Women s Physical
Therapeutic Association, later the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), was founded by
Mary McMillan, who became known as the Mother of Physical Therapy. The APTA official website
describes the APTA as a professional membership organization that funds and releases research and
fights legal battles for PTs (Who we are). Throughout the years, physical therapy has become a
respectable career and has, and will, continue to grow as more research and

Porsche and the Importance of Leadership
Porsche and the Importance of Leadership
Introduction
Porsche has for decades been considered the auto brand most synonymous with exceptional accuracy
and precision, the epitome of German engineering. The German auto maker nearly went bankrupt
however in 1992 as cost over runs forced many of the production lines to operate at a loss (Deitz,
1994). The lack of supply chain coordination and management also was creating an exceptionally
challenging situation for manufacturing plants, often running out of parts and having to delay and in
some cases, cancel orders (Bardy, R. 2010). The culture had become so inward centric and myopic,
that it had lost focus on what really mattered, which was driving down the cost to produce
automobiles while also creating a culture of continual customer facing excellence (Book, 1996).
Turning Around Porsche
The company was nearly bankrupt and rumors were swirling with regard to a take over by BMW,
Mercedes Benz, Volkswagen or any number of other globally based auto manufacturers (Deitz, 1994).
Many industry experts fully expected Porsche to be acquired by Ford and made part of their Premier
Auto Group (Book, 1996). This did not happen however, much to the delight of Porsche customers,
shareholders and employees. The leader credited with the turn around is Mr. Wendelin Wiedeking, a
highly effective executive known for being very demanding, focused on results, and at times quite
abrasive even for a German corporate culture (Deitz, 1994). His

What Is Lombroso Legacy
Since offenders were more primitive, Lombroso said, they could be recognized by certain physical
qualities, e.g. low, inclining temples; vast jaws; long arms; meaty lips; sneaky eyes. Lombroso s
suspicion that specific individuals were more best in class developmentally than others tied in with his
bigot conviction that specific gatherings of individuals specifically, those of European lineage were
more best in class developmentally than different gatherings, for example, those from Africa. The
thought that a few individuals are conceived culprits had self evident and disagreeable strategy
suggestions. First off, it suggested that restoration was impossible. Somebody hereditarily bound to an
existence of wrongdoing was not prone to change, thus the best approach was just to bolt him away. ...

to jail, sanitization, or demise for those unfortunates conceived with the wrong qualities. In the 1970s

Isabella And The Gothic Heroine
Isabella too pretends to have the delicacy of character often associated with the Gothic heroine in
expressing her feelings. Isabella claims to want to save her pride when she mentions that she cannot
go out riding with the men alone when Catherine says that she cannot go due to her previous
engagement with the Tilneys because it would be improper for her to do so. Nevertheless, despite
what she had said, it is later discovered that she went anyways without Catherine when Catherine
holds true to her plans with Eleanor. Clearly Isabella did not care quite as much about her reputation
as she wished others to believe. Isabella also wishes to appear to be delicate, much like other Gothic
heroines who faint at the least possible emotional turmoil.

A Small Place Analysis
Jamaica Kincaid s novel A Small Place is a fictional novel about her life growing up on an island that
has been imperialised by the British. Jamaica Kincaid shows acrimony to the colonization of her
country, towards the corrupt government that has stunted the growth of her country, towards the white
people that took Antigua in their hands and molded it into something embryonic. The dictionary
defines third world as the underdeveloped nations of the world, especially those with widespread
poverty, with this description, Antigua will be classified as a third world country after achieving their
independence from the British. A Small Place reveals that post colonial Antigua is still pinned by a
form of slavery through the nation s poor economy, government corruption, and the impoverished
Antiguans. The poor economy and corrupt government are hand in hand to help create the
impoverished Antiguans.
The corrupt government of Antigua restricts their citizens ability to buy specific goods, like cars, in
order to benefit the people working in the government, banks are encouraged by the government to
make loans available for cars, but loans for houses not so easily available; and if you ask again why,
you will be told that the two main car dealerships in Antigua are owned in part or outright by ministers
in government (Kincaid 7). The government forces the banks to make it easier for the purchase of cars
that are partly owned by the ministers of the Antiguan government so they

Theories Of Development And Development Influence Human...
As our society continues to expand and develop, it is often wondered who exactly figured out how
people develop and learn. Dating back to the 1800s, numerous different theorists have researched and
experimented to interpret learning and development. Some major theorists that are incorporated with
theories of development include Jean Piaget, Lev Vygotsky, and Erik Erikson. Along with the theories
of development, there are theories of learning. The four main theories include cognitive,
constructivism, social cognitive, and situative. First and foremost, Jean Piaget can be considered a
pioneer in psychology. His theory is considered one of the most influential and comprehensive
theories of cognitive development. This theory focuses on how nature and development influence
human intelligence. Piaget also describes how crucial a child s environment is when the child is
maturing and interacting with changes throughout their life. Different life changes can teach a child
right or wrong, cause and effect, and a comprehensive learning about how time and space work. In
Piaget s theory, he discusses the four stages to cognitive development: sensorimotor, preoperational,
concrete operational, and formal operational. The sensorimotor stage is how a child orients himself
with the constant physical movements and actions along with a corresponding stimulus representing
the same thing. Therefore, a child is only aware of something that is right in front of them. For
example, the constant

Comparing Ron And Denver s Same Kind Of Different As Me
Same Kind of Different as Me is a book about an unlikely friendship brought together by a godly
woman. One of the reasons that this friendship works out is because they are both, as the title
mentions, the same kind of different. SInce this is the factor that glues the friendship together, the title
of the book plays a significant role throughout the novel. The kind of different the book references is
Christianity or religion. Ron, Denver, and Debbie all share this religion (some of them more strongly
than others), which makes them the same kind of different as each other. Though some might argue
that Ron s faith is questionable, I maintain that he grows to become a strong Christian throughout the
novel. In the beginning of the book, Debbie ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Denver, on the other hand, does not need pushed into religion. From the time he s a child, he has a
clear faith in God, even when his future looks grim. Some may say that Ron and Denver are too
different from each other to be considered the same kind of different but this is not the case. Though
each took a different path to get there, both are devout Christians. They worship the same God and
have similar morals, despite their contrasting childhoods. In fact, their contrasting upbringings are
what make the title so significant. One of the main points in Same Kind of Different as Me is Denver s
epiphany that he and Ron aren t so different after all. When Ron is trying to become friends with
Denver, Denver expresses his concern about Ron catching and releasing him. This clearly shows that
Denver views himself as different than society and Ron. Another scene that shows this is when Denver
goes to a fancy dinner with Ron and is baffled by the number of forks. Obviously,

Margaret Atwood s The Sound Of Music
The Sound of Music is an iconic musical theatre production, produced by Andrew Lloyd Webber, John
Frost, Davis Ian and The Really Useful Group, currently being performed at QPAC in Brisbane. The
musical features the uplifting true story of Maria and the Von Trapp families flight across the
mountains, with countless singing, dancing and acting numbers. Some of the stand out songs formed
by the collaboration of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, were Sixteen Going on Seventeen
, So Long, Farewell and My Favourite Things .
The story based in Austria in the 1930 s showcases the Von Trapps family s growth and hope amongst
the terror of World War II. Maria, a postulant has a hard time following the guidelines of becoming a

As the music speeds up so do they and vice versa as it slows. They are constantly moving keeping the
audience engaged, making use of the stage, they dance through the space in a range of ways. Their
moves are always sharp sudden and strong. The scene could have been enhanced by adding more
lighting techniques, to guide the audience through the scene, because it was neutral throughout the
whole scene and only dimmed to signal the end of the musical sequence.
A technique used commonly throughout the play is the use of the choreographic device of a canon, in
scenes that the Von Trapp children dance together. It makes a positive effect and enhances the quality
of the movement that much more. The actors interact with each other in a positive way and engage
with the audience by allowing us to be clear of what is happening with the story line.
Overall, I thought that production had chosen immensely talented cast who had amazing chemistry
with one another which was portrayed during the whole production, through their interactions.
Although the set was usually simple it was well crafted and always fit perfectly with the story singing,
dancing and

Amigo Brothers Text
Amigo Brothers By Piri Thomas Antonio Cruz and Felix Vargas were both seventeen years old. They
were so together in friendship that they felt themselves to be brothers. They had known each other
since childhood, growing up on the lower east side of Manhattan in the same tenement building on
Fifth Street between Avenue A and Avenue B. Antonio was fair, lean, and lanky, while Felix was dark,
short, and husky. Antonio s hair was always falling over his eyes, while Felix wore his black hair in a
natural Afro style. Each youngster had a dream of someday becoming lightweight champion of the

it for him. Brother. Tony, let s promise something right here. Okay? If it s fair, hermano, I m for it.
Antonio admired the courage of a tugboat pulling a barge five times its welterweight size. It s fair,
Tony. When we get into the ring, it s gotta be like we never met. We gotta be like two heavy strangers
that want the same thing, and only one can have it. You understand, don tcha? Si, I know, Tony smiled.
No pulling punches. We go all the way. Yeah, that s right. Listen, Tony. Don t you think it s a good
idea if we don t see each other until the day of the fight? I m going to stay with my Aunt Lucy in the
Bronx. I can use Gleason s Gym for some working out. My manager says he got some sparring
partners with more or less your style. Tony scratched his nose pensively. Yeah, it would be better for
our heads. He held out his hand, palm upward. Deal? Deal. Felix lightly slapped open skin. Ready for
some more running? Tony asked lamely. Naw, bro. Let s cut it here. You go on. I kinda like to get
things together in my head. You ain t worried, are you? Tony asked. No way, man. Felix laughed out

Essay on Exercise of Authority in Measure for Measure
At the outset, we find the Duke transferring his power and authority to Angelo. He lends to Angelo his
own terror and dresses Angelo with his love, giving his deputation all the organs of his own power .
He says that from now on mortality and mercy in Vienna would live in Angelo s tongue and heart. The
Duke motive in appointing Angelo to function in his stead is, as he tells Friar Thomas, to rid the
country of the evils which have taken strong roots and which, he thinks, he himself cannot eradicate
because of his reputation as a very lenient man. Now the question is how far the Duke is justified in
appointing a substitute to rule the kingdom and reform the corrupt Vienna society. We do not think
that the Duke is justified in taking such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of course, Angelo does not realize the futility of the step which he is taking because he thinks that,
merely by banning prostitution, he would be able to put an end to this evil. Pimping and prostitution
are evils which can never be eradicated through legislation, just as the evil of alcoholism and drug
taking cannot be ended by means of legislation. Evidently, Angelo believes in employing drastic
methods to eradicate evil. His belief in drastic methods of reform is particularly seen in his sentencing
Claudio to death on a charge of fornication. Now, there is no doubt at all that Claudio is guilty of a
serious moral lapse in having made a girl pregnant without having first married her. But there are
certain extenuating circumstances in Claudio s case; and Angelo errs in not taking into consideration
those extenuating circumstances. Angelo has revived certain laws which had remained in disuse for
several years, and he now proceeds to apply those laws in their full rigour. In other words, he takes a
literal and legalistic attitude towards the law (Marsh 141). He does not realize that the sentence of
death against a fornicator is too severe and that the law, which he has revived, needs to be amended.
He blindly applies the law to Claudio s case, thus showing a lack of realism. He is here undoubtedly

Investigating And Determine Compatible Naturally Based...
The objective of this project is to investigate and determine compatible naturally based elements that
can potentially replace and be integrated into the bone tissue, for medical purposes. These elements
should be similar in characteristic and structure of the bone tissue, so that they can effectively replace
the tissue and help stimulate bone growth and cellular growth, in order to maintain bone homeostasis.
In order to achieve compatibility, factors such as 3 D polymeric structures within bone scaffolding,
cellular composition and many other aspects should be considered within all these plausible elements.
After finding potential candidates for replacements of bone tissue, each element will be organized
based on their compatibility and traits that make them suited for implementation. Based on the
comparison of materials, we found that the bamboo was the most suitable candidate for the
implementation based on it s biocompatibility potential, biodegradability potential and mechanical
integrity.

Central Themes in the Work of Jacques Ellul
Jacques Ellul was a professor of history and the Sociology of Institutions on the Faculty of Law and
Economic Sciences at the University of Bordeaux. He wrote 58 books and more than a thousand
articles over his career, many of which discussed propaganda, the influence of technology on society,
and also the correlation between religion and politics. The central theme of Ellul s work proved to be
the threat to human freedom and religion shaped by modern technology.
Ellul s continual concern was the rise of a technological oppression over humanity. According to the
Boston Globe newspaper, he was a leader in the French resistance in World War II. For his
determination to save the Jews, he was labeled Righteous among the Nations by Yad Vashem in 2001.
He was also a layman in the Reformed Church of France and achieved a high position within it as part
of the National Council.
Ellul considered Karl Barth, a leader of the confrontation against the German state church in World
War II, the greatest theologian of the 20th century. Ellul also considered his father his role model. He
has been credited with coining the phrase, Think globally, act locally. According to the International
Jacques Ellul Society (IJES), Ellul frequently said that he was born in Bordeaux by chance, but that it
was by choice that he spent almost all his academic career there.
Ellul viewed the domination of mass media as an example of technology utilizing control over human

The change means the alteration of status quo or making things different. It may refer to any alteration

Often society s winners , both historical and contemporary, can be characterized by the common
ability to effectively manager and exploit change situations. Individuals, societies, nations and
enterprises who have at some time been at the forefront of commercial and/or technological expansion
have achieved domination, or at least competitive advantage, by being innovative in thought and/or
action. They have been both enterprising and entrepreneurial. It is said that management and change
are synonymous; it is impossible to undertake a journey, for in many respects that is what change is,
without first addressing the purpose of the trip, the route you wish to travel and with whom. Managing
change is about handling the complexities of travel. It is about evaluating, planning and implementing
operational, tactical and strategic journeys about always ensuring that the journey is worthwhile and
the destination is relevant. The Industrial Revolution, which developed in Europe between 1750 and
1880, accelerated the rate of change to an extent never previously thought possible. Other economies
followed and the rate of change has never declined; indeed, many would claim it has now accelerated
out of control. The spear and sword gave way to the gun; the scribe to the printing press; manpower to
the steam engine of James Watt; the horse and cart to the combustion engine; the typewriter to the
word processor; and so the list goes on. 3

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (Lou Gherig s Disease)
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis is a deadly disease of the nervous system.
Also known as Lou Gehrig s disease, ALS at this time affects 25,000 people in the U.S. today. One in
50,000 people will be affected in any one year. The average age for diagnosis of ALS is between 30
and 70, although there have been cases of teenagers contracting it.The average life span after
diagnosis are three to 10 years, although 20 percent of those affected will outlive their prognosis by a
number of years. ALS affects more men than women. Approximately
60 percent of those affected are male, 40 percent are female.

The patient cannot eat, breathe or communicate with others. Total life support may be the only thing
keeping them alive. ALS can lead to total paralysis.
Although there is no cure, medications such as siazepam can assist with controlling spasms and
muscle cramps and saliva. Siazepam can also help control muscle twitching. Physical therapy is
important for patients with ALS to maintain flexibility in joints and to prevent contractures, or
fixations of muscles. Diagnosis of ALS is difficult, since there is no clinical or laboratory test to
identify it. Diagnosis is done through careful examination of a patient s history, neurological testing,
and electromyograms.
Researchers have been studying whether a defective metabolism of glutamate, an amino acid, is
detrimental to the nerve cells in the muscles of
ALS patients. Scientists are trying to determine whether they can prevent the toxic effects of
glutamate. Other scientists are studying Threostat, which may increase the amino acid called glycine,
which might neutralize glutamate found in ALS patients.
ALS and Muscular Dystrophy are commonly confused due to their similar

one who announced this. The Kyoto Protocol is an international agreement connected to the UNFCCC
that sets internationally binding greenhouse gas reduction targets for each country that is in the
agreement. There are a lot of benefits as to why Canada should stay in the agreement, but at the same
time there are a few complications and setbacks that we will have to face as well. Canada will reduce

The UNFCCC should implement better ways for all nations to eventually fall under the 1990
emissions levels. Working slowly towards the goal is a better way to approach the problem rather than
giving the nations targets that are very hard to achieve in the first place. Canada had the responsibility
to fall 6% below the 1990 emissions levels, but instead went 23.4. Which basically means, for
example, if a nation had a target of 10%, but actually increased emissions by 10%, the score would be
20, if it was 5% and the nation went 15% under, then the score is 10. Canada went 23.4 which was the
worst score out of all the other nations within the agreement at the time. In any case, it was verifiably
a vital initial phase in worldwide climate diplomacy. The question is whether a more aspiring second
step will follow so as to stay away from unsatisfactory dangers of destroying environmental

History Of The Federal Bureau Of Investigation
The Federal Bureau of Investigation is a crucial part to the government because the agency protects
the nation from crime at the federal level. The Office of the Chief Examiner wanted to create a
branched off agency that investigated national criminals, and criminals who would stay in the state
would be investigated by the county or state agencies. General Bonaparte was assigned to this task. In
1908, ten previous secret service agents were hired to this force. By mid year 1909, the agency had
more than tripled in such a short time period. Attorney General Wickersham, Bonaparte s replacement
after he was gone, renamed the branch to Bureau of Investigation. The number of policemen rose
substantially in the next few years. In World War I, the main operation of the Bureau was to
investigate people refusing to draft, Espionage Act of 1917 violators, and radical immigrants. After J.
Edgar Hoover became director of the Bureau, the Bureau was built stronger to fight against criminals.
This included a fingerprint file, crime lab, and training for new agents. After this the Bureau was
known as the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and it was highly regarded among America. ... Show

The Wife Of Bathïżœs Tale And Prologue And The Franklin s Tale
In The Wife of Bath s Tale and Prologue and The Franklin s Tale, the central theme is the relationship
between man and woman. There are different views of this relationship or marriage in these two tales:
either the woman has the power in the marriage granted from her husband, or the husband and wife
grant each other power in the marriage so neither dominates. The Wife of Bath begins her prologue by
explaining that she considers herself an authority of marriage due to her experience ; the Wife of Bath
says, Experience, though no authority/Were in this world, would be enough for me/To speak of woe
that married life affords;/For since I was twelve years of age, my lords,/Thanks be to God eternally

could have in a lifetime (20 23). The Wife of Bath goes on to say that God gave men and women
instruments to use and the instruments are not just for urinating but for pleasure and procreation (134).
The Wife of Bath says, In wifehood I will use my instrument/As freely as my Maker has it sent./If I

My Microsystem Analysis
As I review my childhood through the ecological systems lens, I have mixed emotions stirring in my
stomach. These strong emotions stem from a well balanced childhood that was affected by one tragic
event. It is important for me to start with the strong positive foundation of my microsystem before
introducing the one, exosystem event that impacted my whole world. I was born on November 17,
1977 in Atlanta, Georgia to Joe and Sharon Lynch. I was my parent s third child, they were also
parents to Shelley and Jeremy, six and three years old to me. It has always been a family joke that I
was born to all four members of my nuclear family. I was blessed with one set of over protective

and second guessing myself, I stated, I wish that I could put this sky in my bedroom! . I remember

funny statement and an intelligent statement at the same time. My dad look at me and said, Mere,
well, why can t you have that sky in your bedroom? I next thing I knew, my dad had my mom calling
our landlord and asking for permission to paint my room. I was blown away with emotions of feeling
important and excited. The move to Oregon had put a financial hardship on my family of five. We
went from owning our home to Atlanta from renting a fixer upper in the suburb of Portland, Oregon.
There was a undertone in my family that children were not supposed to ask for extra things. Gifts and
treats were given to children during holiday, birthdays and or after good behavior. Again, I was blown
away with every positive feeling that a child could experience in that moment, especially when our
landlord said, yes to the painting. I remember that my dad, brother and I got into my dad s 1973
Datsun truck and went to go get paint. By the end of that weekend, I had a light blue painted bedroom,
the same as the sky. This is just one example of how I felt significant and loved by the members of my

The two pieces of art Standard of Ur (c. 2600 B.C.E.) and Sarcophagus of Junius Bassus (c. 359 C.E.),
both by unknown artists, were ceremonious pieces in their time, and captivating works of art in ours.
While the artists are unknown, their work is indicative of the time period in which they lived.
Religious imagery and depiction of stories were subjects many artists pursued, especially in the death
of their leaders. The sarcophagus was made for a member of the senatorial family, Junius Bassus, this
amazing sculpted sarcophagus depicts multiple religious scenes and imagery. The Standard of Ur is

the war new life was breathed into the economy, factories were built to supply weapons causing

providing the countries left in shambles with aide manufactured by U.S. factories, establishing

Analysis Of The Metamorphosis By Franz Kafka
Often times, a son may be forced or obligated to do something for their family that doesn t benefit
him. The Metamorphosis, by Franz Kafka, explores Gregor s role as a provider in the Samsa family,
and how this role inhibits his progress and freedom. This novella demonstrates how people are
unaware of the situations that confine them, which they have no control over. In Gregor s case, he
remains trapped as a traveling salesman, a job which he dislikes, due to his lack of agency regarding
family responsibilities and potential for social advancement (movement). Only after his
metamorphosis does Gregor realize that his freedom and quality of life have been impeded by his
family obligations and lack of movement. Gregor s obligations to his family result in his inextricable
role as a provider for the Samsas. Because of the large debt accrued by his father, Gregor has been
working for the past five years, and must work an estimated six or seven more years in order to repay
it. During this decade of work, he must give up his own aspirations and individuality in order to
provide for the family. Gregor became a traveling salesman because he felt obligated, or was forced to
reverse the debt, however, he is unaware that his job is a trap from which he will never escape.
Moreover, instead of acknowledging this hidden trap, he feels great pride in the fact that he had been
able to provide such a life for his parents and sister (72). Gregor is too distracted by the fact that he s

Paramount Decision Vs Hollywood Blacklist
The Paramount decision and the Hollywood blacklist were two major milestones that brought
dramatic changes to the film industry. The Paramount decision was a ruling made by the Supreme
Court in 1948, against the activities of the major studios called the Big 5, which were the main fully
integrated film studios between 1920 and 1948. The ruling stated that the major studios practiced bad
business tactics that included block booking and blind buying and that this in fact formed a monopoly
of the film industry. The Hollywood black list was a 20th century practice of denying screenwriters,
directors, actors, musicians and other U.S. entertainers because of their political associations. This list
was created by a group of individuals that believed that certain entertainment professionals persons
were affiliated with communists. This list of persons was not able to produce, act, or work on or in any

|Biography: Herbert Spencer |
Herbert Spencer (1820 1903) was an English philosopher, scientist, engineer, and political economist.
In his day his works were important in popularizing the concept of evolution and played an important
part in the development of economics, political science, biology, and philosophy.

His views concerning a science of sociology are elaborated in two major works, Descriptive Sociology
(published in 17 volumes, 1873 1934) and The Study of Sociology (1873).
Spencer was particularly influential in the United States until the turn of the century. According to
William Graham Sumner, who used The Study of Sociology as a text in the first sociology course
offered in an American university, it was Spencer s work which established sociology as a separate,
legitimate field in its own right. Spencer s demand that historians present the natural history of society,
in order to furnish data for a comparative sociology, is also credited with inspiring James Harvey
Robinson and the others involved in the writing of the New History in the United States.
Economic Theories
Social philosophy in the latter part of the 19th century in the United States was dominated by Spencer.
His ideas of laissez faire and the survival of the fittest by natural selection fitted very well into an age
of rapid expansion and ruthless business competition. Spencer provided businessmen with the
reassuring notion that what they were doing was not just ruthless self interest but was a natural law
operating in nature and human society. Not only was competition in harmony with nature, but it was
also in the interest of the general welfare and progress. Social Darwinism, or

Why Georgia s Anti Mask Laws
When Georgia s anti mask laws were scrawled into state code some 60 years ago, supportive
legislators sought to curb anonymous violence by hooded Ku Klux Klansmen. But first year Georgia
State student Nabila Khan never guessed such a law would bring into question her niqab, a veil worn
by some Muslim women which covers everything but the eyes. On Aug. 25, during Khan s first week
of college, one of her teachers held her after class to request she not conceal her face. Khan refused,
claiming such an ask violated her right to freely exercise her religious beliefs. I wear it to work. I wear
it to school, she told The Signal about her niqab. Many people have this misconception that, as
Muslim women, we re oppressed or forced to wear it. For me, it s a choice. My parents never forced
me to wear it. Khan said she feels proud and protected when wearing her niqab. This is the only way I
can practice my religion the way I believe it s meant to be practiced, she said. However, Georgia s anti
mask law states any device which conceals the identity of the wearer is only allowed when used for
physical protection or on certain holidays. Georgia, unlike some states such as Louisiana and
Minnesota, has yet to amend that code to allow for religion related exemptions. The teacher, who will
remain unnamed in this article at Khan s request, noted on the class syllabus that students should not
obscure the face in class. The teacher also gave Khan a copy of the state law when she

Imperialism And Colonialism
Imperialism and colonialism have changed the perception of international relations in present day.
Imperialism is a policy that enhances the power of a country through authority. For example, the
authority would be an emperor, empress, military, government, etc. The imperialism and colonialism
policy correlate to each other. Colonialism is a practice of obtaining full or partial control over other
countries or areas filling these places with settlers and harnessing it economically (Amardeep, 2001).
This practice is usually seen when countries with less power become overpowered by another country
in which they take over and colonize their areas. When thinking about these two practices you may see
colonialism as the actual practice and imperialism as the idea guiding the practice.
United States Involvement in Imperialism and Colonialism
The United States felt that in order to be a world with power they needed to have land beyond our
borders where they can control. Most countries that have world power have colonies beyond their
borders. If we wanted to be viewed in the same perspective, we needed to get colonies. Therefore, the
main reason why the U.S. engaged in imperialism was for economic growth such as new markets for
goods and new lands for natural resources, the need to civilize other cultures, and military bases by
expanding the military s reach throughout the world (Shcheglov, 2017). When a place is colonized, it s
resources are exported to the mainland for their utilization. Usually, when a country engages in
colonialism is because they are strong enough and their neighbors are weak they begin to take over
these colonies and there is no other choice but to engage in imperialism (McGreevey, 2017).
Colonialism can alter the social structure in a place and may also alter the physical structure of these
areas causing change in the economics of this region. Both of these practices correlate to one another,
colonialism was developed through imperialism. Therefore, in cases of colonialism, the colonizing
state or country will send over administrators to set up their own government and may often have their
own economic structure. They may also bring citizens to live and work in the new colony that has

German Expressionism and Dadaism
German Expressionism and Dadaism Introduction Revolutionary forms of art have dominated much
of Germany, apparently as a reaction to the First World War. The era in which the First World War
took place throughout the 1910s, featured artists coming together against what they think the pointless
aggression said major conflict brought. German artists, in particular, protested against the social
structures prevalent during the 1910s, within which the social structures of the Second Reich were
prevalent. German society initially saw film, in particular, as quite an inelegant alternative to the
bourgeoisie associated theater. Such is due to the inability of the domestic film industry in Germany to

Wiene, Janowitz and Mayer portrayed through The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari their notion that the
German war effort that time was a highly grotesque one complete with mind controlling propaganda
and objections against dying in the name of German imperial dominance, with the intent to shock
audiences with the highly macabre features of the film. In contrast to the propaganda promotion
agenda of Germany during the 1910s, which stood as the reason for banning foreign film importation
in the nation, The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari serves as a groundbreaking example of Expressionism
that time a complete opposite of German government propaganda due to its shockingly subjective anti
government message (Kellner 3 39; Kracauer 61 76; Wiene). Ironically, however, Siegfried Kracauer
noted that the narrative frame in The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari was an undermining factor to the
expressionist nature of the film. Such is perhaps due to the ascendancy of the fear and anxiety factor
imbued within The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari, which is supposed to provoke the emotions of
audiences. After all, it is the main point of expressionist art to subject audiences to emotionally
provoking scenes, which in turn reflect the subjective views of artists. Therefore, one could note that

Line 53 74) Macbeth speaks of his fears that Banquo may spread his wisdom among others, leading to
them getting closer to finding out Macbeth is a cold blooded killer. Macbeth hires hitmen to kill
Banquo and his son (Fleance) in order to keep it more unknown and obvious to the public. Fleance

Cardiac Cycle Research Paper
The cardiac cycle describes the series of events that take place in the heart over the duration of one
heart beat
â–Ș It is comprised of a period of contraction (systole) and relaxation (diastole)
Systole
â–Ș Blood returning to the heart will freely flow from the atria to the ventricles as the AV valves kept
open by the pressure in the atria
â–Ș The sinoatrial node (pacemaker) receives signals to fire when the ventricles are almost full (~70%)
â–Ș The contraction of the atria (atrial systole) causes blood to fill the ventricles to the maximum
â–Ș The signal from the SA node is transferred to the AV node and then via Purkinje fibres to cause the
delayed contraction of the ventricles
â–Ș As the ventricles contract, the increase of pressure in the ventricles closes the AV valves, causing the

Diastole
â–Ș The increased pressure causes the semilunar valves to open and blood to flow away from the heart
â–Ș As the blood flows into the arteries, the pressure falls in the ventricles
â–Ș This causes some arterial back flow, which closes the semilunar valves and causes the second heart
sound ( dub )
When the pressure in the ventricle drops below the pressure in the atria the AV valves open and the
cardiac cycle can repeat
â–Ș The contraction of the heart tissue (myocardium) is myogenic, meaning the signal for cardial
contraction arises within the heart muscle itself
â–Ș Within the wall of the right atrium are a specialised plexus of nerves called the sinoatrial node (SAN)
â–Ș The sinoatrial node initiates contraction of the cardiace muscle and acts as a pacemaker, regulating
normal sinus rhythm
â–Ș It stimulates atria to contract and, when excitation reaches the junction between atria and ventricles,
stimulates another node (atrioventicular node)
â–Ș The atrioventricular node (AVN) sends signals via the Bundle of His to Purkinje fibres, which cause
ventricular contraction This sequence always ensures their is a delay between atrial and ventricular
contractions, resulting in maximum blood

Munich Agreement who was the winner Chamberlain or Hitler
Munich Agreement Assignment Who won at Munich, Hitler or Chamberlain? Neville Chamberlain
was a realist, he had inherited a policy of appeasement Lord Halifax memoir) from his predecessor
Baldwin. His prime motive during his diplomatic meetings with Adolf Hitler was to prevent Britain
becoming entangled in a war that she was ill equipped to wage. This he successfully achieved and by
defusing a situation through statesmanship he bought valuable time to allow the British forces to re
arm. On becoming Prime Minister in May 1937, Chamberlain s government was still recovering from
the depression. To add to this the empire was being threatened in the east by Japan, and there were

privately he had told an agent of the German embassy he hoped the British would suggest pressure be
put on Prague allowing him to acquiesce. (Butler ra1971p68). Chamberlain had stated in a letter to
king George vi (13th September 1938) an agreement was reached with the French supporting a policy
of appeasement allowing Hitler to gain control of his Sudeten people. Also in his letter he stated
without much detail his understanding that Hitler had made his mind up to attack Czechoslovakia and
head east, in such a timeframe that it would not be possible for Anglo French intervention . The
British Ambassador to Berlin, Sir Neville Henderson, referred to the Czechoslovakian President,
Eduard Benes, as pigheaded and claimed he could become the reason for a second world war.

It is noted that when a company fails to meet its obligations management, employees, suppliers and
customers, which is open to legal malpractice claims. The defence against malpractice lawsuits can be
costly for companies, and even if they win, your reputation could be damaged. Entrepreneurs have to
understand what actions constitute negligence, criminal sanctions for negligence and how to protect
themselves from malpractice lawsuits . The law defines negligence as the failure of a person or
company to practice the level of care that a rational, sane person had practiced under the same
conditions. When the lack of preparation or foresight leads to damage, the plaintiff may claim the
company was negligent and sue for monetary damages. The harm can come in the form of physical
pain, emotional suffering, economic loss, or a combination of the three . The plaintiffs must prove five
elements to win a malpractice case against a business. Applicants must demonstrate that the company
had a legal obligation to them and breached that duty. They have to prove that the damage would not
have occurred were it not for the actions of the company. Applicants must demonstrate that the
company should have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Why Is It Wrong To Judge Corduroy
Everyone wishes they could be perfect, but sometimes this is not the case. You learn as you get older
that everyone has flaws. People have all different tastes, opinions, likes, and dislikes. No matter how
people may look, the readers learn in Corduroy that it s wrong to judge people based on their
appearance. According to Allure, A national survey taken of 2,500 people, found that 64 percent of
people said that the first thing they notice about a person is how attractive he or she is (Conde Nast,
2016). People are judged wrongly on a daily basis, especially in a high school setting. When you
judge someone based off of their appearance, or even how they act, you never know what you could
be missing out on. The person that you decided ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sometimes people do not even know they are judging them. It starts when you ask one of your friends
about a teacher they have had before because you are about to take that individual class. When your
friend tells you how they liked the class, how they liked the teacher, and how they liked the work, you
automatically have a standard set for that class. Your friend could also tell you that the teacher in the
class has been the worst teacher ever. You need to make your own judgment, not go off of what your
friends tell you. Your friends could hate the class and the teacher more than anything, and you could
end up loving the class and the teacher. Rumors are also another way how students judge the teachers.
You go your whole high school career hearing about how bad a particular class or an individual
teacher is. You hear about how hard the class is to pass, and you automatically dread having to take
that class, but still have two years to go until you take the class. Sometimes the nicest teacher in the
world could have a bad day and a student from that class tell everyone how mean she is. Just like with
other students, do not judge them until you have been a part of their class and then you can decide if
the people were right or wrong about

Argumentative Collaboration Analysis
Dr. Allison Brennan touched on various topics about dynamics of social interaction during the process
of cognitive collaboration. The main focus was towards social interaction between people rather than
focusing on what factors influence social development in an individual. Her research on cognitive
collaboration was conducted with the same experimental task called, Enumeration Visual. This is
where participants collaborate with a friend and sometimes a non friend to answer given questions. To
differentiate interactive and independent effects, Dr. Brennan questioned if two people are superior in
performance because of independent statistical beliefs or because of collaborative interaction. Through
her Enumeration Visual experiment, she found that two people were indeed faster because of the
collaborative social interaction that is present between them. She showcased graphs that ... Show more

Walmart s Impact On The Canadian Retail Sector
Walmart has had a huge impact on the Canadian retail sector. Walmart first entered Canada in 1994
when it purchased 122 stores from the struggling Woolco chain. Over a decade later, six major retail
chains have disappeared in Canada due to fierce competition from Walmart. Walmart has such a major
influence on the retail sector that their move to open superstores with massive floor spaces promoted
Canadian retail giant, Canadian Tire to experiment with fresh and frozen products in a couple of its
stores. By 2006, Walmart dominated 50% of the market in Canada for general merchandising and
became Canada s largest non food retailer with about 13$ million in sales annually. Thanks in part to

To change J.W s mind she brought up his frustrations with the Greenpeace organisation. She said Is Barrow near that Arctic wildlife reserve you re always going on about? That place you want to drill so bad? . To which J.W replied That s a whole other fight. She s got her tree hugger buddies in Washington killing me on that one, too. You know, I spent a fortune and I still can t get the votes I need to drill. . • 6. Clarence Thrush Point Of View The passage from from Maria Edgeworth s novel, Belinda, portrays human behavior. The passage uses literary devices in order to create depth in a character. Edgeworth uses point of view, tone, and language in order to give depth to the character Clarence Hervey. The passage follows the storyline of Clarence Hervey. However, the passage is written in third person point of view. By having the passage written in third person point of view the reader can see how the narrator feels about Clarence, but not who Clarence actually is. It is made clear that the narrator detests Clarence within the first few lines of the passage, Clarence Hervey might have been more than a pleasant young man, if he had not been smitten with the desire of being thought superior in everything, and being the most admired person in all companies. Since the passage is written in third person point of view, the reader is given a opinion of Clarence without having any prior knowledge of who Clarence is outside of what the narrator states. Although, by having the passage written in third person the reader is able to assume that Clarence will be the cause of a problem for the narrator at some point in the story. • 8. Porsche and the Importance of Leadership Porsche and the Importance of Leadership Introduction Porsche has for decades been considered the auto brand most synonymous with exceptional accuracy and precision, the epitome of German engineering. The German auto maker nearly went bankrupt however in 1992 as cost over runs forced many of the production lines to operate at a loss (Deitz, 1994). The lack of supply chain coordination and management also was creating an exceptionally challenging situation for manufacturing plants, often running out of parts and having to delay and in some cases, cancel orders (Bardy, R. 2010). The culture had become so inward centric and myopic, that it had lost focus on what really mattered, which was driving down the cost to produce automobiles while also creating a culture of continual customer facing excellence (Book, 1996). Turning Around Porsche The company was nearly bankrupt and rumors were swirling with regard to a take over by BMW, Mercedes Benz, Volkswagen or any number of other globally based auto manufacturers (Deitz, 1994). Many industry experts fully expected Porsche to be acquired by Ford and made part of their Premier Auto Group (Book, 1996). This did not happen however, much to the delight of Porsche customers, shareholders and employees. The leader credited with the turn around is Mr. Wendelin Wiedeking, a highly effective executive known for being very demanding, focused on results, and at times quite abrasive even for a German corporate culture (Deitz, 1994). Jamaica Kincaid shows acrimony to the colonization of her country, towards the corrupt government that has stunted the growth of her country, towards the white people that took Antigua in their hands and molded it into something embryonic. The dictionary defines third world as the underdeveloped nations of the world, especially those with widespread poverty, with this description, Antigua will be classified as a third world country after achieving their independence from the British. A Small Place reveals that post colonial Antigua is still pinned by a form of slavery through the nation s poor economy, government corruption, and the impoverished Antiguans. • 12. Theories Of Development And Development Influence Human... As our society continues to expand and develop, it is often wondered who exactly figured out how people develop and learn. Dating back to the 1800s, numerous different theorists have researched and experimented to interpret learning and development. Some major theorists that are incorporated with theories of development include Jean Piaget, Lev Vygotsky, and Erik Erikson. Along with the theories of development, there are theories of learning. The four main theories include cognitive, constructivism, social cognitive, and situative. First and foremost, Jean Piaget can be considered a pioneer in psychology. His theory is considered one of the most influential and comprehensive theories of cognitive development. This theory focuses on how nature and development influence human intelligence. Piaget also describes how crucial a child s environment is when the child is maturing and interacting with changes throughout their life. Different life changes can teach a child right or wrong, cause and effect, and a comprehensive learning about how time and space work. In Piaget s theory, he discusses the four stages to cognitive development: sensorimotor, preoperational, concrete operational, and formal operational. The sensorimotor stage is how a child orients himself with the constant physical movements and actions along with a corresponding stimulus representing the same thing. Therefore, a child is only aware of something that is right in front of them. For example, the constant ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The kind of different the book references is Christianity or religion. Ron, Denver, and Debbie all share this religion (some of them more strongly than others), which makes them the same kind of different as each other. Though each took a different path to get there, both are devout Christians. They worship the same God and have similar morals, despite their contrasting childhoods. In fact, their contrasting upbringings are what make the title so significant. One of the main points in Same Kind of Different as Me is Denver s epiphany that he and Ron aren t so different after all. The Duke motive in appointing Angelo to function in his stead is, as he tells Friar Thomas, to rid the country of the evils which have taken strong roots and which, he thinks, he himself cannot eradicate because of his reputation as a very lenient man. Evidently, Angelo believes in employing drastic methods to eradicate evil. His belief in drastic methods of reform is particularly seen in his sentencing Claudio to death on a charge of fornication. Now, there is no doubt at all that Claudio is guilty of a serious moral lapse in having made a girl pregnant without having first married her. But there are certain extenuating circumstances in Claudio s case; and Angelo errs in not taking into consideration those extenuating circumstances. Angelo has revived certain laws which had remained in disuse for several years, and he now proceeds to apply those laws in their full rigour. In other words, he takes a literal and legalistic attitude towards the law (Marsh 141). The objective of this project is to investigate and determine compatible naturally based elements that can potentially replace and be integrated into the bone tissue, for medical purposes. These elements should be similar in characteristic and structure of the bone tissue, so that they can effectively replace the tissue and help stimulate bone growth and cellular growth, in order to maintain bone homeostasis. In order to achieve compatibility, factors such as 3 D polymeric structures within bone scaffolding, cellular composition and many other aspects should be considered within all these plausible elements. After finding potential candidates for replacements of bone tissue, each element will be organized based on their compatibility and traits that make them suited for implementation. Based on the comparison of materials, we found that the bamboo was the most suitable candidate for the implementation based on it s biocompatibility potential, biodegradability potential and mechanical integrity. He wrote 58 books and more than a thousand articles over his career, many of which discussed propaganda, the influence of technology on society, and also the correlation between religion and politics. The central theme of Ellul s work proved to be the threat to human freedom and religion shaped by modern technology. Ellul s continual concern was the rise of a technological oppression over humanity. According to the Boston Globe newspaper, he was a leader in the French resistance in World War II. For his determination to save the Jews, he was labeled Righteous among the Nations by Yad Vashem in 2001. He was also a layman in the Reformed Church of France and achieved a high position within it as part of the National Council. Ellul considered Karl Barth, a leader of the confrontation against the German state church in World War II, the greatest theologian of the 20th century. Ellul also considered his father his role model. He has been credited with coining the phrase, Think globally, act locally. According to the International Jacques Ellul Society (IJES), Ellul frequently said that he was born in Bordeaux by chance, but that it was by choice that he spent almost all his academic career there. Often society s winners , both historical and contemporary, can be characterized by the common ability to effectively manager and exploit change situations. Individuals, societies, nations and enterprises who have at some time been at the forefront of commercial and/or technological expansion have achieved domination, or at least competitive advantage, by being innovative in thought and/or action. They have been both enterprising and entrepreneurial. It is said that management and change are synonymous; it is impossible to undertake a journey, for in many respects that is what change is, without first addressing the purpose of the trip, the route you wish to travel and with whom. Managing change is about handling the complexities of travel. It is about evaluating, planning and implementing operational, tactical and strategic journeys about always ensuring that the journey is worthwhile and the destination is relevant. The Industrial Revolution, which developed in Europe between 1750 and 1880, accelerated the rate of change to an extent never previously thought possible. Other economies followed and the rate of change has never declined; indeed, many would claim it has now accelerated out of control. The spear and sword gave way to the gun; the scribe to the printing press; manpower to the steam engine of James Watt; the horse and cart to the combustion engine; the typewriter to the word processor; and so the list goes on. 3 MBA H4010 ... Physical therapy is important for patients with ALS to maintain flexibility in joints and to prevent contractures, or fixations of muscles. Diagnosis of ALS is difficult, since there is no clinical or laboratory test to identify it. Diagnosis is done through careful examination of a patient s history, neurological testing, and electromyograms. Researchers have been studying whether a defective metabolism of glutamate, an amino acid, is detrimental to the nerve cells in the muscles of ALS patients. Scientists are trying to determine whether they can prevent the toxic effects of glutamate. • 23. History Of The Federal Bureau Of Investigation The Federal Bureau of Investigation is a crucial part to the government because the agency protects the nation from crime at the federal level. The Office of the Chief Examiner wanted to create a branched off agency that investigated national criminals, and criminals who would stay in the state would be investigated by the county or state agencies. General Bonaparte was assigned to this task. In 1908, ten previous secret service agents were hired to this force. By mid year 1909, the agency had more than tripled in such a short time period. Attorney General Wickersham, Bonaparte s replacement after he was gone, renamed the branch to Bureau of Investigation. The number of policemen rose substantially in the next few years. In World War I, the main operation of the Bureau was to investigate people refusing to draft, Espionage Act of 1917 violators, and radical immigrants. After J. According to William Graham Sumner, who used The Study of Sociology as a text in the first sociology course offered in an American university, it was Spencer s work which established sociology as a separate, legitimate field in its own right. Spencer s demand that historians present the natural history of society, in order to furnish data for a comparative sociology, is also credited with inspiring James Harvey Robinson and the others involved in the writing of the New History in the United States. Why Georgia s Anti Mask Laws When Georgia s anti mask laws were scrawled into state code some 60 years ago, supportive legislators sought to curb anonymous violence by hooded Ku Klux Klansmen. But first year Georgia State student Nabila Khan never guessed such a law would bring into question her niqab, a veil worn by some Muslim women which covers everything but the eyes. On Aug. 25, during Khan s first week of college, one of her teachers held her after class to request she not conceal her face. Khan refused, claiming such an ask violated her right to freely exercise her religious beliefs. I wear it to work. I wear it to school, she told The Signal about her niqab. Many people have this misconception that, as Muslim women, we re oppressed or forced to wear it. For me, it s a choice. My parents never forced me to wear it. Khan said she feels proud and protected when wearing her niqab. This is the only way I can practice my religion the way I believe it s meant to be practiced, she said. However, Georgia s anti mask law states any device which conceals the identity of the wearer is only allowed when used for physical protection or on certain holidays. Georgia, unlike some states such as Louisiana and Minnesota, has yet to amend that code to allow for religion related exemptions. • 37. Imperialism And Colonialism Imperialism and colonialism have changed the perception of international relations in present day. Imperialism is a policy that enhances the power of a country through authority. For example, the authority would be an emperor, empress, military, government, etc. The imperialism and colonialism policy correlate to each other. Colonialism is a practice of obtaining full or partial control over other countries or areas filling these places with settlers and harnessing it economically (Amardeep, 2001). This practice is usually seen when countries with less power become overpowered by another country in which they take over and colonize their areas. When thinking about these two practices you may see colonialism as the actual practice and imperialism as the idea guiding the practice. United States Involvement in Imperialism and Colonialism The United States felt that in order to be a world with power they needed to have land beyond our borders where they can control. Most countries that have world power have colonies beyond their borders. If we wanted to be viewed in the same perspective, we needed to get colonies. Therefore, the main reason why the U.S. engaged in imperialism was for economic growth such as new markets for goods and new lands for natural resources, the need to civilize other cultures, and military bases by expanding the military s reach throughout the world (Shcheglov, 2017). When a place is colonized, it s resources are exported to the mainland for their utilization. Usually, when a country engages in colonialism is because they are strong enough and their neighbors are weak they begin to take over these colonies and there is no other choice but to engage in imperialism (McGreevey, 2017). Colonialism can alter the social structure in a place and may also alter the physical structure of these areas causing change in the economics of this region. Both of these practices correlate to one another, colonialism was developed through imperialism. Therefore, in cases of colonialism, the colonizing state or country will send over administrators to set up their own government and may often have their own economic structure. German artists, in particular, protested against the social structures prevalent during the 1910s, within which the social structures of the Second Reich were prevalent. Wiene, Janowitz and Mayer portrayed through The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari their notion that the German war effort that time was a highly grotesque one complete with mind controlling propaganda and objections against dying in the name of German imperial dominance, with the intent to shock audiences with the highly macabre features of the film. In contrast to the propaganda promotion agenda of Germany during the 1910s, which stood as the reason for banning foreign film importation in the nation, The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari serves as a groundbreaking example of Expressionism that time a complete opposite of German government propaganda due to its shockingly subjective anti government message (Kellner 3 39; Kracauer 61 76; Wiene). Ironically, however, Siegfried Kracauer noted that the narrative frame in The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari was an undermining factor to the expressionist nature of the film. Such is perhaps due to the ascendancy of the fear and anxiety factor imbued within The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari, which is supposed to provoke the emotions of audiences.
