Lindbergh Case Study
The Lindbergh Case was one in which the whole world seemed to be following in 1932. Charles
Jr. was so easily swept away from his room and family in the middle of the night with little clues
to tell what and how it happened. This meant the involvement of the Criminal Justice System was
needed to try and find out who had taken their baby. These components include the Police, Court,
and eventually Corrections. Starting with the Police, or the detectives on the scene of the
abduction. For this particular incident there was involvement with New Jersey Police, New York
Police, and the F.B.I which at times caused some confusion. The detectives on the scene found
little evidence initially, this included a Ransom note and a broken ladder with some footprints
outside the house. Once reading the ransom note they found that it was written in a very childish
tone and a lot was misspelled. The Lindbergh family received many other Ransom notes in time
and found out that it was clear the abductor had planned this for a long time. Detectives working
the case also had to look into all possible suspects in the kidnapping, It started with the family
members themselves in which they had to take in all aspects, including Anne Lindbergh s sister
Elizabeth who was seen as physically and mentally ill. Next the three staff members of the estate
were looked into with great detail, including Betty Gow who was the last to see Charles Jr. In his
room, because of this her boyfriend was looked into

My Personal Statement On Being Observed
The targeted behavior being observed will be the frequency of verbalizations of the following
curses: fuck, shit, damn, bitch, and ass, as well as any variations of them (e.g. asshole). Each
instance of cursing will be recorded, as well as what happened both immediately before and after
the curse was spoken. My emotional states for both before and after I cursewill also be included.
Equipment utilized during the observation period included a Memos application on my cell
phone, the Sticky Notes application on my laptop, and a data sheet and frequency graph I created
in Excel for this purpose. I enlisted the help of my friends and family to ensure that every
occurrence of the target behavior was recorded. If no one was around to remind me,... Show more

In terms of external influences, it appeared that I cursed a lot when I was around my friends, such
as D, S, and M. Alongside that, I believe that I was receiving reinforcement for the target behavior
when my peers laughed following my statements.
Treatment Design, Implementation, and Evaluation
The goal of this modification project is to entirely eliminate my use of cursing. A secondary
goal, if the primary one is not met, is to decrease the frequency of cursing to 1 2 times max. I
would be utilizing a positive punishment procedure to assist in the elimination of the target
behavior. Punishment would be in the form of a rubber band that would be aggressively
snapped against my wrist immediately following the occurrence of the target behavior. I asked
my peers and family members to snap the band every time they hear me curse. Whenever I was
alone, I would be conscientious of my speech, as I was during the baseline observation period,
and administer the punishment myself upon each occurrence. In this instance, the pain I feel when
the rubber band is snapped against my skin is an unconditioned punisher. Every occurrence of
cursing was recorded right away. The treatment period started on March 27th and ended April 9th,
for a total of 14 days of treatment. Changes in the frequency of cursing occurred slowly for the
first few days. In fact, the amount of cursing had increased to 14 for the first day of treatment. As
can be seen on the graph, the first day had the highest

of view in this novel. The unique perspective from Ginny not only allows the reader to view the
events from her own angle, but it also allows the readers to understand her personality. In addition,
this quote describes the tragedy of the farmer s life: no new possibilities of adventure or travel. This
foretells the possible challenges that occur between generations because the elders do not have an

Virtual Reality And Its Effects On The Future
For countless years humanity has strived for the next innovation of the future. One of these
extraordinary breakthroughs has been Virtual Reality. Gaming companies across our vast world
have been working restlessly for many years to achieve what was once thought impossible.
Working towards finally being able to place someone in a world where anything and everything is
purely circumstantial and subject to change. The potential of virtual realityis limitless; it could quite
possibly change everything we know. Virtual reality could provide new approaches to cure a
multitude of mental illnesses and disorders as well as assist in physical therapy. Aside from the
beneficial effects it could have in the medical field it could be ground breaking to the recreational
aspects of society sending humanity leaps and bounds into the future. Virtual reality will definitely
completely change and dominate the economic and business landscape.
The effects that virtual reality could have on the medical field leave even the brightest of minds
speechless. The potential virtual reality holds for the medical field is unparalleled, this new
technology changes previously inconceivable ideas into viable solutions to serious and complex
issues. Surgeons and medical students could perform surgeries in a virtual reality to find the best

Essay Exploring Autism in Children
Exploring Autism in Children
Susan was a normal, happy, active infant. Her parents were so relieved that all her checkups at the
pediatrician s office indicated that her growth and development were above average. At 6 months
she could sit up and crawl and at 10 months she was walking. She seemed to babble more than her
older brother did at the same age and was talking at 16 months. All the milestones in her early
development were ahead of schedule.
One day when she was 18 months old, her mother found her sitting alone in the yard spinning the
wheels of her wagon with such persistence that her mom joked with her friends that maybe Susan
would be an engineer when she grew up. Susan s mother began to notice many unusual behaviors ...

After years of physical therapy, behavioral therapy and speech/ language therapy, Susan is now

This program is more expensive then a regular school based setting, but has benefited Susan. She
has aides to help her with her daily living skills. Susan is able to hold a job at a sheltered workshop
under the supervision of her aide (Neuwirth Segal).
Autism affects one out of every 500 births and over one million people have Autism in the United
States. Autism is four times more common in boys than girls. If a girl is Autistic, the symptoms are
usually much more severe. Girls tend to have more of the symptoms and lower intelligence.
The following paper will describe the Autism Spectrum Disorder, specifically as it relates to young
children with Autism. It will also identify different types of Autism and accompanying disorders. It
will describe the history, known causes, characteristics and the hope for the future.

Military Should Be Mandatory Essay
In current times, roughly 99.5% of American citizens don t serve in the military in their lifetime.
But is something that needs to be changed by force? Some people could argue that service in the
United States military should be mandatory for everyone in reality, though, that is an impossible
and overall disastrous idea. Militaryservice is something that only some people can do not all

The majority of people in the United States would not be able to handle the stress, anxiety,
uncertainty, and other mental illnesses that go along with serving in the United States military.
According to Joel L. Young M.D. a medical doctor and a writer for Psychology Today mental health
issues are prominent in people who serve in the military. He writes, Almost a quarter of military
members have symptoms of at least one mental health condition, with more than 10% qualifying for
a diagnosis of two or more mental illnesses (Young 1). In other words, many people who serve in
the military have mental health problems. Consequently, if everyone in the U.S. was forced to
serve, these numbers would be substantially higher. Young also shows the reader how easily anxiety
is created in the military. He writes, Service members may not know what the future holds. They
wait to learn about life threatening deployments, new job assignments, and other life altering
transitions, impeding their ability to plan for the future and creating anxiety (Young 1). This means
that while soldiers are serving, they are unable to see what will be happening even in the near
future, causing major amounts of stress and anxiety. Although people could argue that if a
mandatory enlistment was instated that the government would make mental health treatment easier
to obtain, but often treatment cannot fully heal a

The Tragedy Of Oedipus The Play Oedipus
The beginning of the plot of the play, Oedipus s objective was to figure out who murdered King
LaГЇos, to then capture him and put a stop to the plague spreading around Thebes. King Oedipus is
profoundly concerned about his people, and is determined to relive the misery that is occurring due
to the curse in his city. When he starts investigating, the idea was brought up that it is possible that
he, himself, killed King LaГЇos and that changes his mindset in a different path. Oedipusis aware
that years ago before he came to Thebes, he had an encounter with a stranger that almost
endangered his life and killed the man in self defense. And there a herald came towards me, and
a chariot drawn by horses, with a man such as you describe seated in it. The groom leading the
horses forced me off the road at his lord s command...Swinging my club in this right hand I
knocked him out out of his car, and he rolled on the ground. I killed him. (pg.1240) Little did he
know that the man was King LaГЇos; it seems like everyone in the play seems to know that Oedipus
is the murderer of King LaГЇos but something keeps them from revealing that to him. All the
confusement that is brought to Oedipus is there reason why the question Who killed LaГЇos?
turned to Who am I? Discovering who he is, is the key in determining whether he is the possible
murderer of King LaГЇos. On the level of the plot, the answer Son of LaГЇos and lokastГЄ, father s

I Clearly Remember My Last Moment As An Undergraduate...
I clearly remember my last moment as an undergraduate student. I had just finished my last
exam for the semester, and as I checked back over my test I reflected on my college experience.
In just 7 semesters I had attended 4 different colleges, lived in 4 different cities, had 9 different
jobs, took a semester off for a competitive internship, and still managed to graduate a semester
early. But of course, it s kind of a long story.
Throughout high school my family always supported me and encouraged me to do my best, but
never pushed me to strive for a college education. I knew I wanted to go to college, but I was
uncertain and scared of the process. As a junior I applied to Chicago Scholars whose mission it
was to help minorities and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before the rug had been pulled on my U of I plans, I had applied to the competitive Disney
College Program in Florida. I learned of my acceptance at the perfect time, and committed to spend
the next semester in Florida. This was a great opportunity for me to network with some of the most
ambitious college students from around the world while I learned a lot.
While my internship with Disney provided me with the opportunity to transition to whatever
was next, it unfortunately did nothing to help my financial situation, and I found myself back at
home. Living with my dad in Chicago I worked 60 70 hours a week and completed 22 credit
hours at my local community college. During this time I pushed myself to not let circumstances
hold me back and decided to be relentless in chasing my goals. Despite taking a semester off for
Disney, I received my Associates degree on time. At a college fair, I learned about Loras College
and prepared to continue my BA at Loras in Dubuque, IA.
I started at Loras in Fall of 2014 and eagerly threw myself into the academia and school
involvement that I had been desperate for since U of I. After arriving in Iowa, I became involved
with Dr. Julia Omarzu s research team, worked part time at a Jimmy Johns and the school Library,
volunteered in Dubuque elementary schools, worked as a math tutor in a high school, did trail
maintenance for a nature preserve, and crocheted and donated baby

Hormonal Imbalance Research Paper
Various reasons have been proven as to why people begin suffering from hair loss. Hormonal
imbalance is vital to a healthy, cancer free mind and body but can be disrupted in many ways. It
can be caused by things like toxins, menopause, perimenopause, or living an unbalanced lifestyle. A
human s hormonal cycle can and does vary at multiple different times in our lives, therefore
allowing this to have a direct impact on the quality of hair. This phase is said to be very common
and is able to occur in anyone s life. Hormonal imbalance is experienced by women many times
during her pregnancy. During these nine months, as everyone may have already experienced,
women s hormones tend to be all over the place. Once she has given birth, those hormones... Show

The case is about the same with thyroid hormones. The hypothalamus is apart of the brain that
produces thyroid releasing hormones. This hormone pairs with what is known as our pituitary
gland to begin the production of a thyroid stimulating hormone. This pairing up acts on the thyroid
in order to produce thyroid hormones, which travel through our bodies.
Hirsutism is the name given to male patterned hair growth in females. Women who have this
condition grow dark hair on their face, feet, chest, stomach, and back. Acne, deep voice, irregular
periods, and small breasts are more symptoms of this condition. Sometimes there is no cause that
can be identified for facial hair growth in women. With respects to the relationships between
hormones and our hair growth, the role of androgenetic alopecia (AGA) hirsutism is best
acknowledged(). Accordingly, therapeutic strategies that intervene in androgen metabolism have
been successfully developed for treatment of these conditions. Clinical observations of hair
conditions involving hormones beyond the androgen horizon have determined their role in
regulation of hair growth. These roles include being growth hormones, estrogens, cortisone, and
thyroid hormones. Primary GH resistance is characterized by thin hair, while acromegaly may

Example Of Ethos Pathos Logos
Presentation of Rhetoric Strategies
The use of Ethos, Pathos, and Logos is presented in the three videos provided through a wide
array of examples. In the first video, Drunk History Claudette Colvin and Rosa Parks, the writers
use of comedy was used to provide a broad narration of a particular civil rights movement. Logos
is a form of persuasion through the [representation] of arguments and evidence in the matter
under discussion (Campbell 38). In the first video, the use of logos was presented by their
wardrobe selection. The use of old time clothing created an antique like structure that would
capture the viewers. The second form of logos was presented through the attitude of Claudette

Ethos is also a form of persuasion used through the alterations of [the] charisma and the credibility
of the speaker (Demirdöğen 191). The emphasizing of the NAACP organization provided a
sense of credibility because it was a personal brand for the civil rights movement. In addition to
the presence of the NAACP, the video demonstrated how E.D Nixon, president of NAACP,
wanted to use Rosa Parks as the face of the revolution opposed to Claudette Colvin. This was
because Colvin was only 15 years old, and would result in decreased credibility. Pathos uses
emotional or affective appeals as a form of persuasion (Feltham 532). This rhetoric strategy is used
throughout the entire video through the expression of comedy and language. The use of
inspirational words such as equal rights and revolution were used to appeal the viewer s values.
The president s action words are most likely intended to

Abortion Discussion Questions
The topic for this discussion board was initially intended to be about a specific interest group we
wanted to see go away, so perhaps we have gone beyond the purpose of the discussion board by
debating the morality of abortion itself. Despite this, I would like to continue the discussion
because I find it interesting.
I disagree with some of the inferences you seem to have drawn from my response. I did not imply
that all abortions are justified; in fact, I would personally advocate for stricter regulations on
abortion. Furthermore, I believe that your statement describing a fetus as merely a burden is an
understatement of the scenarios I was trying to describe. When a fetus threatens the life of the
mother, I would describe its presence as more than just a burden. However, this does not mean I
necessarily support abortion when a pregnancy results from personal irresponsibility. For that
reason, I would like to rephrase the last statement in my former response. Instead of saying that
abortion is less often an issue of personal responsibility, a more accurate representation of my
opinion is to say that abortion should less often be an issue of personal responsibility. I did not
mean to describe how things currently are; rather, I intended to explain how I feel things should be.
I apologize for any confusion that may have caused. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What that specific point should be, however, is certainly a gray area among most who share a

Abstract
This report presents an alternative energy is any energy source that from fossil fuel. We need to turn
to alternative energy in general. Firstly, we were in danger of ruining the planet s climate through
fossil fuel emissions. Furthermore, we cannot keep using fossil fuels forever that will run out
someday [1]. In addition, the problem of the current energy that we can focus was energy security
and independence viewpoint because our nation has increased its dependence on foreign oil
supplies instead of decreasing it especially from nations under the rule of a dictator or unstable
countries where human rights violations are common [2].
1.0Introduction
Nowadays, many power stations across the world burn fossil fuels to generate energy. When fossil
fuels are burned to generate energy, they lead to increased concentrations of carbon dioxide and
Sulphur dioxide into the atmosphere which contributes to global warming. However, stocks of
fossil fuels are limited and alternatives need to be found. Alternative energy sources are a popular
topic of conversion these days, as many of them believe that they can hold a promising solution to

Forgiveness In The Sunflower Analysis
Forgiveness There is an abundance of ways that one might interpret forgiveness. Psychologists
might explain it as a conscious decision to pardon the actions of those who ve done wrong.
Religious people might identify it as an attribute that we should all have. Though there are many
ways in which forgiveness is seen, they all conclude that it leads people towards happiness and
peace. In Simon Wiesenthals book The Sunflower, forgivenessis an important concept. Forgiveness
is shown as an important concept to the story as it makes the reader questionthe forgiver s role, the
importance of forgiveness, and the reason people ask for forgiveness. In The Sunflower by Simon
Wiesenthal, he shares his story of when a dying Nazi soldier asked him for forgiveness. After that
incident, Wiesenthal goes on a journey through life trying to figure out if his actions were right in

Going about life with a forgiving attitude tends to make us happier and more at peace. In The
Sunflower, forgiveness is the main and most important concept. Karl asks for forgiveness from
Simon on his actions and Simon goes through the rest of his life pondering whether or not what
he did was right and if he should try and forgive himself for what he did. After talking to Bolek,
Simon states, I became less and less certain as to whether I had acted rightly (Wiesenthal 83). This
statement shows how Simon does not know whether what he did was right and how every person
he talked to about his situation impacted his opinions. Forgiveness is such an important concept
that it makes Wiesenthal ponder about his actions and ask for input from multiple different people.
He felt as if he cannot be at peace until he comes to terms with his actions. This shows that
forgiveness is an extremely important concept in both life and The Sunflower as it can lead us onto
different paths and make us question our views and

purpose of this short chapter is to provide foreshadowing to both the atomic war and civilian
immigration to Mars. The reason why this chapter was written is that during 1950 (when this
book was written), Ray Bradbury wanted to voice his opinion that the construction of atomic
bombs will lead to war. Pritchard says, Wasn t he born right here in Ohio? Wasn t he a good

The Old European Derived Model Of The American University
Although the present role of higher education is hotly contested, its origins aren t. Higher
education in the US was created as a way to maintain class distinctions. The old European derived
model of the American university was not the center of liberal intellectual curiosity it has evolved
to today, but rather a religious haven for students of wealthy families who attended in order to
become clergymen. Though the religious presence at these institutions has largely diminished, the
overwhelming presence of students of primarily wealthy backgrounds remains. Only recently have
colleges, with little avail, attempted to reverse this trend. Non profit colleges, including two year,

Despite fluctuations, the funds that are invested, not including donations, have generally been been
on track for nearly 4% increases every year since 2000 and accounting for the losses during 2009.
Endowment funds, on average, are showing returns beyond the incremental increases in operational
costs, yet there seems to be no signs of increasing affordability within these institutions. This points
to a clear lack of intention of these institutions to allow the expansion of socioeconomic diversity
within these universities. However, statistics still indicate that socioeconomic mobility is facilitated
by the presence of these institutions. Most of the movement between classes happens between the
middle and upper class. In addition to minimal representation in these institutions, lower income
students find little to no opportunities for socioeconomic movement. In fact, 65% of the bottom

The structure of the college financing system is a root of the suppression of socioeconomic equality,
College financing is divided primarily into three options, aside from parental funding. Institutional
financial grants should provide the bulk of the unmet cost of attendance. However, financial grants
provided by universities are all contingent on how inclined the university is to broaden
socioeconomic diversity. The universities that generally provide this type of funding are the same

Research Paper On Witchcraft
Do you know what witchcraft is? Witchcraft is seeking help or guidance from any spiritual source
other than God. We see much of this in society today horoscopes, astrology, tarot cards, witchcraft,

We can only worship God in spirit (John 4:24). Our battles in this life are ultimately against the
Devil; not flesh and blood (Ephesians 6:12). The Devil works inside the mind of the wicked, to
lead them to do horrible things (Ephesians 2:2). The Devil can t make anyone do anything, but he
influences people if they are susceptible. This is the woeful danger of making witchcraft look
innocent and fun to young people. It teaches children to invoke Satan s power. Any witches magical
power all comes from Satan.
All spiritual power comes from either God or Satan. We see this truth in the Bible, when
Pharaoh s magicians imitated the Lord s miracles wrought by the hand of Moses and Aaron

Satan is all about deception and lies (John 8:44). There is no such thing as white witchcraft.

As children, we are all blessed with the opportunity to experience the world around us without
shouldering the responsibility of taking care of the environment that we live in we are carefree,
other than the occasional tantrum in the middle of Walmart. As a result, few of us likely
consciously recognized the invaluable lessons present in most of the children s books we were
reading. The Lorax, written by Dr. Seuss, is a classic example of one such book. His work takes
the reader along on a fictional journey into the world of the Tragedy of the Commons, a place of
collective despair after the mass deforestation of the famed Truffula tree. The Tragedy of the
Commons, a term coined by Garrett Hardin in 1968, is a phenomenon that occurs as individuals
continue to consume a public resource in greater and greater quantities over time, thinking that
their singular effect will be negligible when it, in combination with the effects of many others,
can cause catastrophic long term results.Though beautifully depicted in Dr. Seuss s fantasy
world, the Tragedy of the Commons is an issue faced globally by societies every day. Many
communities that border the Gulf of Mexico are currently suffering as a result of what has come
to be known as the Gulf s dead zone, a massive stretch of ocean that has been deoxygenated and is
now devoid of marine life. The causation of this large scale disaster is found in the run off that
comes from the states bordering the

Legal Pluralism And Normative Orders Essay
Introduction In this course we have been learning a lot on the topic of legal pluralism and
normative orders. The paragraphs below will illustrate legal pluralism by using the case of
Multani v. Commission Scolaire Marguerite Bourgeoys. First of all, we will begin with defining
what legal pluralism is then we will go more in depth into the case. We will be covering the
essential background of the case, the decisions of the courts and schoolboard with justification
and a short personal reflection on the subject. What is Legal Pluralism? According to Brian
Tamanaha, legal pluralism is a situation where different bodies of law ... operate or overlap
within the same social field. There are ways to better understand the system of legal pluralism for
example in the exert from Dupret s article it was mentioned that legal pluralism is based ...on a
principle of indifference, by which one seeks to avoid normative and evaluative engagements: the
focus is put on the description of practices, not on their evaluation. Moreover, this position is based
on the refusal of any ironic standpoint, i.e. the denial that social scientists occupy any kind of
overhanging position vis Г vis the social, by which they would be entitled to reveal to self
deceived people the truth which is concealed from them because of their lack of critical distance ,
ignorance and/or bad faith . Normative orders In the law review written by Brian Tamanaha, six
legal systems were mentioned. It includes

Obama s Plan And How It Would Evolve Over The Next Five...
Looking into Clinton s plan and how it would evolve over the next five years, the themes of access
and affordability shine through. She believes that all students should be able to obtain a public post
secondary education (Clinton on the Issues: College, 2016). The current truth is that access and
success in higher educationcontinue to be stratified according to income... (Eckel King, 2004). With
Clinton s plan access would increase, and with that enrollment would increase. Increased enrollment
at collegecampuses strikes as an initially positive thought; more students can gain and educationand
contribute that education to bettering society. However, increase enrollment could lead to increase
selectivity, if enrollment increased in extreme enough amounts. State schools, that were founded to
offer quality education would now have a larger pool of student to pick from. For the state school s
fortunate enough to the capacity to educate more student s their success would continue to increase.
But what about the state schools that are already struggling with enrollment issues? Will they
continue to live out their mission and increase enrollment at the expense of the student s education
quality. For campuses that are already filled with students, larger incoming classes would lead to
less enrollment options, larger classroom sizes, and the same campus resources spread thinner
across a larger student body. Schools in this category would be forced to decide between decreasing

Dr. Moreau
In my third paper I would like to briefly talk about the historical and cultural context of the book,
The Island of Dr. Moreau by H.G.Wells. The book was written in 1896 as a science fiction novel,
but let s look at some of the aspects of the book and apply it to today s standards in the USA. As
it turns out, the book actually influenced the start of several animal rights groups in Europe shortly
after its release. Also, Wells had a firm belief that some of the things that happened in the book
were entirely possible and that maybe one day in the future we would see these exact experiments
happen. Dr. Moreau takes different animal species and transforms them into human like creatures.
He even takes different species and makes hybrids . A... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first instances we see animal rights would be in the bible in the book of genesis where
Adam is given dominion over the fish, fowl, cattle and every creepy thing that creeps on earth
and it is said that on the seventh day of rest, the animals are supposed to rest also. Also in the
bible it mentions forbidding plowing with an ox and ass together because it would be difficult
for the ass to keep up with the powerful ox. In the 19th century we start to see more concern for
animal protection whereas before if someone was found guilty of hurting an animal it was
because the animal was a piece of property . We start to see badger baiting, bull baiting, and cock
fighting start to be looked down upon and the implementation of bans. The first ASPCA which
was an animal protection group that was founded by Henry Bergh in April 1866 would create the
declaration of the rights of animals which gave the ASPCA authority to enforce anti cruelty
legislation. In the 1900 s although legislation was passed for animal cruelty, the animals still didn t
have any rights and we started to see an increase in animal use which started to lead to more animal
extinctions due to over farming. These laws came after the book was written but I would think that
this was another reason for Dr. Moreau to conduct

Tata Motors began manufacturing commercial vehicles in 1954 with a 15 year collaboration
agreement with Daimler Benz of Germany.
This partnership has led Tata Motors to not only become India‟s largest automobile company
but also India‟s largest commercial vehicle manufacturer; the world‟s top five manufactures
of medium and heavy trucks and the world‟s second largest medium and heavy bus
manufacturer. Having just entered the passenger vehicles market segment in 1991, Tata
Motors now ranks second in India‟s passenger vehicle market.
Tata has enjoyed the prestige of having developed Tata Ace, Indiaв
Ђџs first indigenous light
commercial vehicle; Tata Safari, India‟s first sports utility vehicle; Tata Indica, India‟s first
indigenously manufactured passenger car; and the Nano, the world‟s least expensive car.
SWOT analysis of TATA motors:
SWOT analysis (alternately SLOT analysis) is a strategic planning method used to evaluate the
Strengths, Weaknesses/Limitations, Opportunities, and Threats involved in a project or in a

Small Business Failure
According to Forbes.com, approximately 543,000 new businesses get started each month
(Nazar). That places the annual total of small businesses created at more than 6.5 million, in the
United States alone. A small business is defined as an enterprise that has less than five hundred
employees. There is a total of about 28 million small businesses in the U.S. These businesses are
responsible for the employment of roughly 50% of Americans. With an addition 6.5 million
businesses being created annually, you would assume that this number is climbing, however,
that is not the case. More employer businesses close per month than open up (Nazar). As
calculated by the Bureau of Labor Statistics in the United States, the failure rate is as follows;
after one year 21.2%, after two years 32.1%, after five years 51.2%, after ten years 66.6%, and
after twenty years 79.6% of all newly created small businesses fail ( Entrepreneurship ). What is
the reasoning being that? Why are so many small businesses struggling to keep their doors open?
There are three main reasons why businesses that are new and lesser in size struggle to survive and
often lead to the shutting down of these newfound entrepreneurships. These sources of failure
include poor decision making due to a lack of experience, financial issues, and competition from
other businesses. Lack of experience is something that every new businessman or businesswoman
has to deal with. No matter how much you have learned about how to run an

Ocean Conveyor Belt
Overview/Description Demonstrates how water has different densities at different temperatures
and salinity levels, then ties this in to the Ocean Conveyor Belt, a deep ocean circulation driven
by temperature and salinity that carries water around the world. Background Thermohaline
circulation or the Ocean Conveyor Belt is responsible for the large scale ocean circulation. It is
driven by global density differences caused by surface heat, and variations in salinity. As the water
moves throughout the globe with total transit times of up to 1000+ years, the water masses
transport heat energy, and matter (dissolved substances, gases, and nutrients) around the globe. The
density of ocean water is not the same throughout the global oceans, but varies significantly and
discretely. Warm seawater expands and is therefore less dense than cooler seawater. Moreover,
saltier water is denser than fresher water because of the dissolved salt that fills the space between
water molecules, resulting in greater... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In these regions, winds support evaporative cooling of the ocean water, which makes it denser
due to thermal processes, but also by removing water molecules resulting in a higher salinity.
Formation of sea ice also increases salinity as fresh/pure water is preferentially frozen first,
expelling saltier brine. These cold, saltier masses of water sink relatively rapidly over a small
area. These waters of the North Atlantic Deep Water (NADW) sinks and flows southward along the
continental slope of North and South America toward Antarctica and flows eastward around the
Antarctic mixing with Antarctic waters. The water circulation then flows northward at dept into
the three ocean basins. During this northward flow, they slowly begin to warm and mix with
overlying waters and as a result, rise toward the surface at a rate of about 1 centimeter per day over

Reflection On Educational Lesson
This lesson was taught September 25, 2017. It was the introductory lesson for my first grade,
SPAT Science unit about the sun, moon and stars. My science lesson time slot is split into two 30
minute time segments. During the first segment, I did a unit pre assessment with the students. This
reflection video was taken during the second time slot, at the end of the day. I chose this lesson for
reflecting because at first glance, it appears that it went fine. But, after viewing my video choices it
is my opinion, especially for this lesson, that I might have gotten better results had I arranged things
differently.
First off, before I started teaching my SPAT lessons, I didn t really realize that I needed to plan
as if this teaching time was actually 20 minutes, so the kids have enough time to clean up and
prepare to go home. So, after getting through this first lesson, I realized that I had over planned
this time of day. If I knew how quickly it was going to go by, and that I was going to have to
eliminate something, I would have prioritized the components of my lesson differently. Especially
when I consider my overall goal for my first SPAT lesson day.
To orient and focused the students to the unit s topics I began the lesson by reading the learning
targets with the students. The learning targets referred to becoming familiar with the concept of a
textbook, considering what students already know about the sun, moon and stars and learning to
think like a scientist. Then,

criminology and toxicology. In a more realistic view, forensic sciencehas many branches for

Distinguishing Generation Gaps
Distinguishing generation gaps
There are several ways to make distinctions between generations. For example, names are given to
major groups and each generation sets its own trends and has its own cultural impact.
Language Use
Generations can be distinguished by the differences in their language use. The generation gap has
created a parallel gap in language that can be difficult to communicate across. This issue is one
visible throughout society, creating complications within day to day communication at home, in the
work place, and within schools. As new generations seek to define themselves as something apart
from the old, they adopt new lingo and slang, allowing a generation to create a sense of division
from the previous one. This is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s a pity that we don t have enough communication now. But I think the most terrible thing is not
this but our ignorance of communicating. And I can take our daily life for instance. On the one
hand, many parents try to provide good living environment for their children. But they only want
their children to study well and seldom want to know what they re thinking about. On the other
hand, the children are always complaining about their parents but neither do they want to
understand their parents.
Do you think communicating between generations is difficult? I don t think so. Remember how
you made your first friend? Open your mouth the strangers will become friends. Use your tongue
we ll know each other better. And in this way the generation gap can be bridged, I am sure. Just
like it was sung in an old song: Open your heartland the key is in your hand.
Understanding Generation Gap
Generation gap is nothing but certain psychological and emotional gap between parents or elder
people and the younger ones. Bulging generation gap creates misunderstanding and lack of
attachment between the parents and children. The success of parenting lies in how effectively they
avoid the generation gap or ignore the differences with kids.
Generation gap is the result of the fast paced development of the society. In earlier times two or
three generations live in the same lifestyle and environments as the development was so

A Different Approach About Ikea s Success
A different approach about Ikea s success is given by Sara Kristofferson in her book Designed by
Ikea, London 2014. In the first chapter, Kristofferson refers to the relationship between the swedish
goverment and Ikea.
Swedes love Ikea and Ikea itself shows its origins by his colors, his democratic policy and even
the food they serve inside of their stores. In one way we could assert that Ikea sells the
swedishness through its products and it does that by using narratives, that might not be always true,
but they help us to remember and associate Ikea with Sweden.
Ikea has powerful connections with Swedish government and swedish people, indeed no other
companies in the world represents so well the country of origin and its traditions.
It is from this colossal and so appreciated company that this essay aims to rise a more critical
discussion around Frugal Innovation in general, and the personal interest that companies gain from
this apparently healthy term.

This page describing her crime shows how Hester defies the Puritan belief system through
rebellion because the crime of adultery is a serious sin in their religion, showing that she purposely
disobeys the laws of their religion by having an affair. Hester Prynne also defies the Puritan belief
system through the scene where she immerges from the jail cell and is seen in public with her
wedlock child for the first time. Hawthorne describes the manner in which she immerges from the
jail and how the town reacts, in the quote Those who had before known her, and had expected to
behold her dimmed and obscured by a disastrous cloud, were astonished, and even startled, to
perceive how her beauty shone out, and made a halo of the misfortune and ignominy in which she

how serious her crime is seen in the Puritan community, the town members had expected her to
show sorrow, shame, and weakness as she walked from the jail cell. But, instead she walks out with
her head held high, ignoring their judgment, showing no shame and in the crime she committed,
and disregarding the mannerisms the Puritan s expected of her. Along with her rebellion, Hester

a person s character that influence behaviour in different situations . In general, personality theories
can be classified based on four major approaches which are psychoanalytic theory, trait theory, social

As Gerard searched for an authoritative religion while he was in Oxford, he became captivated
by John Henry Newman. He saw the Newman converted from the Anglican Church to the

himself also converted to Catholicism in 1866. By 1888 Gerard had joined the Society of Jesus,
which is a clergy order founded by St. Ignatius of Loyola. The Society of Jesus Order
concentrates mainly on theological scholarship and spreading the values of faith. On his

Relationship between St Augustine and Plato
Discuss the relationship between St. Augustine and Plato Great philosophers over time have shared
ideas about their lifetime. There were no more captivating philosophers than Plato and Augustine
who fed off one another. Even though they were born at different times, their ideas impacted the
life they lived in and future lives. St. Augustine was a student of the wise Plato, who fed off his
ideas and created his own form of philosophy. Plato on the other hand orbited the idea of the
theory of forms which, later St. Augustine incorporated into his beliefs. St. Augustine used the
notion of god to resemble his ideas, as well as Plato s and a mix of Christianity to incorporate his
own knowledge. The philosophical views, the ideas of good and... Show more content on

Another similarity they both share is the position of life is really death. To them the afterlife is the
heaven or paradise and earth is just preparing us to get there. Plato describes that life on earth is to
prepare the soul for existence in the afterlife. Saint Augustine shares a similar view in that who
knows where people and bodies came from. Did god create us or did we just magically show up.
After people die they can leave their life on earth behind them and spend eternity with god. The free
soul can go to heaven where his bodily desires will no longer impede his attempts at reaching the
true joy of knowing God. Augustine s views are enforced through Christ and Christianity. The time
periods brought different perspectives Christianity was very powerful in the time of St. Augustine
and was not around when Plato was alive. To Augustine, Christ was God in human form, and his
death showed God s infinite mercy, as it presented Christians with the fact that God is within reach.
Both Plato and Augustine offer unusual conceptions of what one must acquire to live a truly happy
life. While the conventional view of happiness normally pertains to wealth, financial stability, and
material possessions, Plato and Augustine suggest that true happiness is rooted in something
independent of objects or people. Though dissimilar in their notions of that actual root, each
respective philosophy views the attaining of

Globalization Has Created A Tremendous Impact On The Lives...
Within the past decades, globalization has created a tremendous impact on the lives of women and
men globally. Globalization denotes the process in which economic, financial, and technical
transactions between different countries and communities throughout the world are becoming
increasingly interconnected (Pearson). Yet in the beginning of the millennium, contemporary
globalizationhas additionally taken more of a human form, as it has integrated and interconnected a

The gendered relations have consequently shaped the cultural and societal norms as result of the
economic forms of globalization. As women are entering the work force, they have become more
autonomous and are able to live [how they] want (Sengupta). What s more, the role of women in
the family is changing because they have reduced domestic expectations. Many women are
deferring marriages, while they make money, obtain higher levels of education, and live lives that
most of their mothers could not have dreamed of. Additionally, in a highly communicative
globalized world, there are new models of attainment with seeing women in roles of leadership,
whether it is politically or economically, women may feel empowered to exercise their desire for
high powers of leadership and to exercise femininity in such an emancipative way. This could result
in increased political representation and participation in feminist movements by woman. On the
other hand, as a result of the women being more financially independent, the transformation of the
family is deviating from the patriarchal norm. This is visible as the men s role as an illusion
breadwinner is being destroyed, as there is less pressure for them to be the only source of income
for families. Furthermore, with both men or women being more mobile in their labour because of

Parables In The Gospel Of Matthew
Parables are simple and fictional stories, similes, or metaphors that are true to everyday life as
they depict a moral or spiritual lesson. In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus used parables to illustrate
the kingdom of God, which is defined as God s future display of power and judgment in which he
rules over all creation. The parables assure that heaven is real and an afterlife exists. According to
Jesus, parables are important because although we are given knowledge of the mysteries of the
kingdom of heaven, they still require us to try to do some critical thinking and further reflect in
order to understand the precise meaning behind the story; therefore, it is important to use the gift
of understanding. First of all, Jesus used the parable of the Sower and the seeds to explain the
strength of faith in an individual. A sower had dropped seeds in four different types of
environments: a hard, empty footpath, a rocky ground with little soil, a bunch of thorns, and an
area of good soil. All of the seeds that unfortunately fell in bad environments had unsuccessful
outcomes. Birds ate up the seed in the hard, empty footpath. The sprouting of the seed that fell on

Positive And Negative Impact Of Loanwords
This paper examines the positive, and negative, impact of English loanwords; currently being used
in the Japanese language. Loanwords are words that have been borrowed from one language and
incorporated into another; these words are sometimes integrated without any further modification.
The initial consideration is as to why so many English loanwords have managed to infiltrate the
Japanese language. Thereafter, the negative and positive implications for Japanese society are
explored. The aim is to draw a final conclusion, based on an objective review of previous studies on
the subject.

The Positive and Negative Impact of English Loanwords on the Japanese Language Over a
prolonged period of time, the use of English has expanded to the point that is has become a truly

Characteristics Of A Good Friend
A good friend Friendship is such a strong bond of relationship without which a person s life is an
execration. It is not hard for me to believe a person without a relative but it is hard for me to
even imagine of a person without any good friend. A good friend fill up the vacuum which no
family members can. No matter how close bond a person share with the family, there is always a
limit beyond which a person cannot express their thoughts or confess about their problems to
family members. A good friend remain unaffected by these limits and a person can pour their
heart out in front of them. A friend plays a very poignant role in a person s life. There are many
characteristics of a good friend. One of those characteristics is loyalty. A person can never be
considered a good friend if he or she is not loyal. That s the reason why a dog is considered to be
man s best friend. A good friend is someone who will remain loyal and stick with us even during
bad phase of our life. When a person is strike upon by adversity, disappointment surrounds from
all directions and darkness engulf a person s happy life then only a good friend comes as a ray
of hope to illuminate a person s life and rescue them from being drown in the calamity. For
example, during bad times, failure in exams, rejection in job, family problems, break up; a good
friend support us morally, physically and financially and help us to relive

The Horror Of The Gothic Genre
The Gothic genre often reproduces a conservative paranoid structure when it comes to
homophobia and other moral panics over sex (Hanson, Pg. 176). Eve Sedgwick depicts this in
her work, Between Men: English Literature and Male Homosexual Desire as she discusses how
these ideas (paranoia) are represented within the Gothic, in what she describes as the homosocial
in reference to male bonds (Sedgwick, Pg. 86). She also discusses how bonds between men exist
as the backbone of social form and forms (Sedgwick, Pg. 86). Thus, a consequence of said structure
is the ability to define, control, and manipulate male bonds, which in turn becomes an inexplicably
powerful instrument of social control (Sedgwick, Pg. 86). Thus, homosexualityis represented as the
unspeakable within the Gothic, as it has been defined, controlled, and manipulated to be such
though social control. Therefore, this paper will discuss how homosocial bonds between men, are
used as a tool in social control and used as a way to produce paranoia and moral panic, thus in
reference to the Gothic, these forms epitomize homosexuality as the unspeakable, especially
through homosexual representations within the contexts of ghosts and haunted houses.
Sedgwick describes one of the most distinctive Gothic tropes, as the unspeakable (Sedgwick, Pg.
94), through this trope, she explains how sexuality between men has been recognized as having no
name, essentially being unspeakable , unmentionable , and not to be

Winston Churchill Was A British Statesman
Winston Churchill was born on November 30, 1874, in Dublin, Ireland. His father, Lord
Randolph Churchill, was a British statesman. His own father, John Spencer Churchill, was the 7th
Duke of Marlborough. Churchill s mother, Jeanette Jerome, was a New York socialite. A socialite
is somehow who is well known and thought of among the upper class for attending large social
gatherings such as parties or fund raising events on a regular basis.
In the early years of Churchill s schooling, he was quite unruly and did badly in his first two
schools. In the spring of 1888, he was sent to Harrow School, which was a boarding school near
London, England. After a very short time there, he joined the Rifle Corps. This action led to the
beginning of his own military career. One of the first steps to becoming an official member of
the British military was to pass an exam for the British Royal Military College. He took the
acceptance exam three times before finally passing it. At the end of his time there, he graduated
20th out of 130 in his class and was believed to have been a solid member of the college while there.
Churchill s relationship with his parents was distant and almost based off of their own reputations,
rather than him actually knowing his parents extremely well. He wrote letters to his mother while
in college, begging her to visit him, but she rarely did. Duke John Spencer Churchill passed away
when Winston Churchill was only twenty one. It s often believed

Holocaust Death Camps
What were the ways the Nazis killed the Jews? Where were the camps located? Were the camps
used for anything else? Death Camps were built to kill Jews with gas chambers or
crematoriums, and were mostly around Poland. The Nazis used gas chambers and crematoriums
to kill the Jews at Death Camps. At some point in the second half of 1941. Hitler is believed to
have given the order to begin the systematic elimination of all Jews still living in German
occupied territory (Downing, David 6). Gas chambers were one of the two big ways the Nazis
killed the Jews. Gas chambers were added in 1942. Each gas chamber was built beneath its own
crematorium. It seems probable that at least 1 million Jews perished in the gas chambers (Downing,
David 9). Crematoriums... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Belzec, Sobibor, and Treblinka were pure Death Camps that is, their only purpose was killing (
Downing, David 9). The other two camps that are considered Death Camps are Auschwitz in
Southern Poland and Majdanek in Eastern Poland ( Downing, David 9). The Death Camps were
located on major railway lines and near large cities ( Lace, Williams 17). They were sited in
Poland for three reasons. First next to the Soviet Union, Poland had the largest concentration of
Jews in Europe, about 4 million ( Lace, William 17). Auschwitz was actually three camps in one:
a prison camp, an extermination camp, and a slave labor camp. It was the most lethal of the Nazi
extermination camps and came to represent the final solution, or the extermination of the
Jews.Between 1.1 and 1.5 million people died at Auschwitz (Britannica School Auschwitz ). Not
only did Jews die from getting gassed or burned, they suffered from hunger and little to no shelter.
This meant they were exposed to all the sickness and cold weather. Those at the camps were
subjected to harsh conditions. There was inadequate shelter and sanitation, and the prisoners were
given little food and were overworked. Those who could no longer work faced transport back to

Teenage Cosmetic Surgery
TEENAGE COSMETIC SURGERY
How young should some one be before they are ready to have cosmetic surgery? According to
the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery reports the number of girls eight teen and
younger getting cosmetic surgeries, such as breast augmentations has nearly tripled from 3,872
in the year of 2002 to 11,326 in the year of 2003 ( Farrell 1 ). The increasing number of teenage
girls under twenty having cosmetic surgeries should be aware of the risks, know that their bodies
aren t ready to go under such procedures and that they should not allow the media or low self
esteem influence their decisions.
One cause for teens participating in cosmetic surgery is because the media portrays an unreality
view of beauty. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many teens idolize a celebrity, which is normal, but wanting to be or look like one is a different
subject. Some teens bring in a picture of a celebrity and allow the doctor to show them how they
may be able to have features more like the celebrity. Many cosmetic surgeons discourage anyone
wanting to look exactly like anyone else. This is unrealistic and may indicate a more serious
problem like Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD). BDD is the inability of an individual to see
how they appear. (Palmer). People who have BDD tend to have a distorted view of themselves
meaning they don t see themselves the ways other people do. These teens believe that cosmetic
surgery will solve their physically problems, but looking like some else doesn t help them figure
out who they are.
Brown 5
One of the concerns about plastic surgery on adolescents is that their bodies are still maturing. In
addition to development that may occur in the late teens, growth charts indicate that the average
girl gains weight between the ages of 18 and 21, that is likely to change her desire or need for
breast augmentations as well as liposuction. (Zuckerman
1). A teenager s body may not be fully developed until they reach 18 or maybe even 21. With that
said some cosmetic surgeries, not all but most, can interfere with the body s natural growth. No
matter how much a teenager may want breast augmentations, liposuction, or cheek

Disadvantages Of Carboxylic Acid
The combination of a carbonyl (C=O) group and hydroxyl (в€’OH) group on the same carbon atom
results in the formation of a carboxyl (в€’COOH) functional group. Compounds containing at least
one carboxyl functional group are commonly known as carboxylic acids, and have the general
molecular formula CnH2n+1COOH. Carboxylic acidswith two or more carboxyl groups are called
dicarboxylic acids, tricarboxylic acids, etc. The carboxyl group is one of the most frequently

The Rights Of The Civil War
The democracy we know today would not exist without an evolution of liberties and freedoms. The
advancement of freedoms resulted from the changes in the British government. Moving from the
Civil War to the Revolution, there are several forms of liberties presented. Before colonization, the
first signs of freedom can be seen in the Magna Carta. The signed Magna Carta prevented the
tyrannical monarch King John. W from abusing his powers (Synan). Feeling threatened by John s
powers, Englishmen formed a regulation known as Habeas Corpus, which would protect
themselves from unjust persecutions. Habeas Corpus allows the accused a right to a trial before
prosecution. Englishmen were finally taking a stand for their freedom when they created this law.
Habeas Corpus could be seen as the first sign of democracys formation (Synan). Still, Habeas
Corpus constitutes a large part of today s democracy. Englishmen were finally beginning to
understand government should have power limitations.
As leaders turned over, King Charles began to rule over England. Both him and his wife Henrietta,
a disciple of Christianity, caused great animosity toward the King (Stax 96). Not only was the man
hated for his religious practices but, he also ruled with divine rights. Meaning, King Charles ruled
through God s actions. In a society established on Protestantism, Englishmen felt Christians were
untrustworthy beings (Synan). Discovering a sense liberty, but more so, a religious freedom, the

The Pardoner Tale
The Pardoner and His Tale The Pardoner is a renaissance figure that wanders the lands in hopes
of bringing forgiveness to those in need. This Pardoner is a bad pardoner among the other
pardoners. The tale that he tells is a moral one that is suppose to bring about the desire from
people to ask for forgiveness. Instead the Pardoner uses this tale as a way of contracting money
from his fellow pilgrims. The Pardoner is a person that is suppose to practice what he preaches.
What that person does affects those that look up to that person. The Pardoner must be able to tell of
tales that bring about hope. The way in which that might happen is through example. If the

Mary s of Roncevalles. An honest pardoner would be much like a fund raiser for any religious or
charitable organization today. But a dishonest pardoner like this one had many opportunities to
profit at the expense of the naive. Once he was able to stir them to devotion (VI,C,346), he could
pull out his relics, odds and ends, bits of stones and bones and cloth, and offer them for
sale(Hallissy 214). A Pardoner is not necessarily a bad person. That is true because not all
people are bad, just that there are always some rotten apples in every good batch. This is true
about this such pardoner. By trade the Pardoner is a preacher. His task is to use his rhetorical
gifts to persuade his hearers to repent and be saved. The sermon, then and now, is a major part
of the Christian liturgy. The homilist selects a scriptural passage on which to expound, typically
one selected from the day s liturgy. Since the Pardoner is an itinerant preacher and not a parish
clerk, his audience changes. So he uses not only the same text but also the same sermon over
and over. His scriptural passage is always the same: Radix malorum est Cupidatas (VI, C, 334);
cupidity, the inordinate desire for or excessive love of money, is the root of all evil. Nothing is
wrong with this text, or even the Pardoner s sermon on it. Something is very wrong when the

Statistical And Descriptive Methods For Solving Business...
Business problems can be researched by using descriptive statistical and inferential methods. Data
collection instruments and various sampling methods are essential tools for business research. This
paper will discuss use of inferential and descriptive methods for solving business problems within

Descriptive statistics are used to describe the basic features of the data in a study...which provide
summaries about the sample and the measures. With descriptive statistics you are simply describing
what is or what the data show and present quantitative description in a manageable form. (William,

variable as a line.
Multiple regressions are learning about the independent and dependent variables relationship

Compare And Contrast For And Against Capital Punishment
Capital punishment
Capital punishment is one of the biggest issues in the world and many people agree and
disagree with it for many reasons. Moreover, our lives will be less secure and crimes of violence
will increase without capital punishment. Furthermore, I agree with the death penalty because it
will help to deterrence other people from doing crimes and they will think more about any thing
they will do because they know what will happen for them after doing crimes. Some murderers and
other criminals will suffer more in jail. So, the death penalty is the best choice for some of them. In
addition, in this essay I will talk about for and against capital punishment. Also, I will talk about
comparison and contrast between (for and against) death penalty. ... Show more content on

The first reason is that every one is going to die at the end so if he or she dies by the capital
punishments or diseases are the same and this is a weak reason to agree with the death penalty. The
second reason is that the criminals can do other crime inside the jail or after escaping or being
released from it. As a result. The execution is permanently removes the worst criminals from
society. In my opinion, execution is not a strong reason because they may not do any crimes in
the future. The third reason is that keep the criminal life in the jail for a long time cost a lot of
many for the country. So, death penalty save money for many countries and this is a strong
reason to agree with the execution. The fourth reason is retribution. We can say an eye for an eye
, so the criminal is made to suffer in proportion to the offence, and this is a strong reason for the
capital punishment. The last reason is that death penalty is deter for many people from doing
crimes, so it is become one of the strongest reason to execution the

Comparing The Gregorian Calendar And The Mayan Calendar
Since the beginning, people have created calendars for order and to value life. Calendars have
provided us a reference for measuring the passage of time throughout our existence. They have
evolved from picking up more information from other ideas and ancient cultures. These include
the Egyptian calendar, the Gregorian calendar (the one we use today) and the Mayan calendar.
Historically, the creation of a calendar that provides both a satisfactory representation of time and
practical value for the ordering of life has proved a vexing problem.
Such problems began with the length of the day, the basic division of calendrical time. Technical
difficulties associated with measuring time on Earth and ignorance of the true structure of the solar
system ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The origins of the calendar in the West can be traced to the astronomical reckoning of the ancient
Egyptians, who devised a system based upon a year of 360 days with an additional five day
intercalation. This system was then adopted by the Romans in 45 bc to replace their flawed
calendar. Forwarded by Julius Caesar under the advisement of the astronomer Sosigenes, the
Julian Reform called for an abandonment of lunation and for reliance on a completely solar
calendar. The resulting discrepancy produced significant conflicts between calendar dates and the
observable seasons over the course of the ensuing centuries. Nevertheless, the new system proved
vastly superior to its predecessor. It was accepted throughout the Roman world, and in 325 ad
made the official doctrine of Christendom by the first Council of Nicea. The system instituted the
leap year, adding one day to the calendar every four years, but even with the leap year fix it was
unsatisfactory the Julian year was still 11 minutes and 14 seconds longer than the tropical

Saturday Night Show Satire
The National Broadcasting Company (NBC) is a popular American broadcast network. Founded in
1926 (Fletcher), NBC has grown to feature many segments, one of which is Saturday Night Live
(SNL). The late night comedy showcase aired a segment on November 19th, 2016 in which an
actor portraying Donald Trump as he transitions to the White House is seen having brief
conversations with various political characters such as Mitt Romney, Republican campaign
manager Kellyanne Conway, and future vice president Mike Pence. Through the use of satire
within the segment NBC aims to emphasize a popular Democratic opinion that Trump is most
definitely unprepared for presidency by portraying him and his supporters as being oblivious,

Once again this was done to retroactively confirm the opinions the predominantly Democratic
audience held, but in this instance towards Trump supporters. The demographic of white voters
without a college degree heavily favour Donald Trump, constituting for the majority of those
supporting Trump (Mcgill). Within a brief conversation between Trump and one of his
supporters, the supporter said, It is an honor sir... I ve been out of work for two years now, rough
times but then you came and said that you were gonna bring every single job back to our town
(YouTube). NBC effectively personified the stereotypes of the demographic targeted within their
showcase, including the perceptions that the audience had towards Trump supporters. By scripting
that the worker has been unemployed for 2 years and that he believes all jobs will return to
America in the aftermath of Trumps presidency, NBC portrays Trump supporters as being lethargic,
superficial, and oblivious. Once again this adheres to the opinions that the Democratic audience
held towards Trump supporters, and humorously satisfies the audience as they perceive NBC as
validating their pre existing opinions that Trump supporters are indeed lethargic, superficial, and
oblivious. In result this bolsters the reputation of NBC in the eyes of the Democratic audience, thus
effectively gaining a larger audience due to the marketing concept above. NBC retroactively
confirms the opinions the majority of its audience already had on Trump supporters, effecting their
outlook on NBC in a positive way, and thus effectively portraying Trump supporters as lethargic,

  • 2. Lindbergh Case Study The Lindbergh Case was one in which the whole world seemed to be following in 1932. Charles Jr. was so easily swept away from his room and family in the middle of the night with little clues to tell what and how it happened. This meant the involvement of the Criminal Justice System was needed to try and find out who had taken their baby. These components include the Police, Court, and eventually Corrections. Starting with the Police, or the detectives on the scene of the abduction. For this particular incident there was involvement with New Jersey Police, New York Police, and the F.B.I which at times caused some confusion. The detectives on the scene found little evidence initially, this included a Ransom note and a broken ladder with some footprints outside the house. Once reading the ransom note they found that it was written in a very childish tone and a lot was misspelled. The Lindbergh family received many other Ransom notes in time and found out that it was clear the abductor had planned this for a long time. Detectives working the case also had to look into all possible suspects in the kidnapping, It started with the family members themselves in which they had to take in all aspects, including Anne Lindbergh s sister Elizabeth who was seen as physically and mentally ill. Next the three staff members of the estate were looked into with great detail, including Betty Gow who was the last to see Charles Jr. In his room, because of this her boyfriend was looked into ... • 3. My Personal Statement On Being Observed The targeted behavior being observed will be the frequency of verbalizations of the following curses: fuck, shit, damn, bitch, and ass, as well as any variations of them (e.g. asshole). Each instance of cursing will be recorded, as well as what happened both immediately before and after the curse was spoken. My emotional states for both before and after I cursewill also be included. Equipment utilized during the observation period included a Memos application on my cell phone, the Sticky Notes application on my laptop, and a data sheet and frequency graph I created in Excel for this purpose. I enlisted the help of my friends and family to ensure that every occurrence of the target behavior was recorded. If no one was around to remind me,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In terms of external influences, it appeared that I cursed a lot when I was around my friends, such as D, S, and M. Alongside that, I believe that I was receiving reinforcement for the target behavior when my peers laughed following my statements. Treatment Design, Implementation, and Evaluation The goal of this modification project is to entirely eliminate my use of cursing. A secondary goal, if the primary one is not met, is to decrease the frequency of cursing to 1 2 times max. I would be utilizing a positive punishment procedure to assist in the elimination of the target behavior. Punishment would be in the form of a rubber band that would be aggressively snapped against my wrist immediately following the occurrence of the target behavior. I asked my peers and family members to snap the band every time they hear me curse. Whenever I was alone, I would be conscientious of my speech, as I was during the baseline observation period, and administer the punishment myself upon each occurrence. In this instance, the pain I feel when the rubber band is snapped against my skin is an unconditioned punisher. Every occurrence of cursing was recorded right away. The treatment period started on March 27th and ended April 9th, for a total of 14 days of treatment. Changes in the frequency of cursing occurred slowly for the first few days. In fact, the amount of cursing had increased to 14 for the first day of treatment. As can be seen on the graph, the first day had the highest ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay on A Thousand Acres Dialectical Journal Simmy Shah Quotes| Commentary| When I think of them now, I think of how they probably seen nearly as little world as I had by that time (5). | This quote displays the importance of the first person point of view in this novel. The unique perspective from Ginny not only allows the reader to view the events from her own angle, but it also allows the readers to understand her personality. Instead, they all just try to finish the food quickly and quietly in order to leave the table as fast as possible.| Now that I remembered that little girl and that young, running man, I couldn t imagine what had happened to them (106).| The atmosphere created makes it difficult for the readers not to feel sympathy for Ginny as she discovers parts of herself she had never taken notice of before. Some people could argue that service in the United States military should be mandatory for everyone in reality, though, that is an impossible and overall disastrous idea. Militaryservice is something that only some people can do not all people can deal with the lasting effects of war, including many mental illnesses and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The majority of people in the United States would not be able to handle the stress, anxiety, uncertainty, and other mental illnesses that go along with serving in the United States military. According to Joel L. Young M.D. a medical doctor and a writer for Psychology Today mental health issues are prominent in people who serve in the military. He writes, Almost a quarter of military members have symptoms of at least one mental health condition, with more than 10% qualifying for a diagnosis of two or more mental illnesses (Young 1). In other words, many people who serve in the military have mental health problems. Consequently, if everyone in the U.S. was forced to serve, these numbers would be substantially higher. Young also shows the reader how easily anxiety is created in the military. He writes, Service members may not know what the future holds. They wait to learn about life threatening deployments, new job assignments, and other life altering transitions, impeding their ability to plan for the future and creating anxiety (Young 1). This means that while soldiers are serving, they are unable to see what will be happening even in the near future, causing major amounts of stress and anxiety. Although people could argue that if a mandatory enlistment was instated that the government would make mental health treatment easier to obtain, but often treatment cannot fully heal a ... • 8. The Tragedy Of Oedipus The Play Oedipus The beginning of the plot of the play, Oedipus s objective was to figure out who murdered King LaГЇos, to then capture him and put a stop to the plague spreading around Thebes. King Oedipus is profoundly concerned about his people, and is determined to relive the misery that is occurring due to the curse in his city. When he starts investigating, the idea was brought up that it is possible that he, himself, killed King LaГЇos and that changes his mindset in a different path. Oedipusis aware that years ago before he came to Thebes, he had an encounter with a stranger that almost endangered his life and killed the man in self defense. And there a herald came towards me, and a chariot drawn by horses, with a man such as you describe seated in it. The groom leading the horses forced me off the road at his lord s command...Swinging my club in this right hand I knocked him out out of his car, and he rolled on the ground. I killed him. • 10. I Clearly Remember My Last Moment As An Undergraduate... I clearly remember my last moment as an undergraduate student. I had just finished my last exam for the semester, and as I checked back over my test I reflected on my college experience. In just 7 semesters I had attended 4 different colleges, lived in 4 different cities, had 9 different jobs, took a semester off for a competitive internship, and still managed to graduate a semester early. But of course, it s kind of a long story. Throughout high school my family always supported me and encouraged me to do my best, but never pushed me to strive for a college education. I knew I wanted to go to college, but I was uncertain and scared of the process. As a junior I applied to Chicago Scholars whose mission it was to help minorities and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Before the rug had been pulled on my U of I plans, I had applied to the competitive Disney College Program in Florida. I learned of my acceptance at the perfect time, and committed to spend the next semester in Florida. This was a great opportunity for me to network with some of the most ambitious college students from around the world while I learned a lot. While my internship with Disney provided me with the opportunity to transition to whatever was next, it unfortunately did nothing to help my financial situation, and I found myself back at home. Living with my dad in Chicago I worked 60 70 hours a week and completed 22 credit hours at my local community college. During this time I pushed myself to not let circumstances hold me back and decided to be relentless in chasing my goals. Despite taking a semester off for Disney, I received my Associates degree on time. At a college fair, I learned about Loras College and prepared to continue my BA at Loras in Dubuque, IA. I started at Loras in Fall of 2014 and eagerly threw myself into the academia and school involvement that I had been desperate for since U of I. After arriving in Iowa, I became involved with Dr. Julia Omarzu s research team, worked part time at a Jimmy Johns and the school Library, volunteered in Dubuque elementary schools, worked as a math tutor in a high school, did trail maintenance for a nature preserve, and crocheted and donated baby ... Hormonal imbalance is vital to a healthy, cancer free mind and body but can be disrupted in many ways. It can be caused by things like toxins, menopause, perimenopause, or living an unbalanced lifestyle. A human s hormonal cycle can and does vary at multiple different times in our lives, therefore allowing this to have a direct impact on the quality of hair. This phase is said to be very common and is able to occur in anyone s life. Hormonal imbalance is experienced by women many times during her pregnancy. This hormone pairs with what is known as our pituitary gland to begin the production of a thyroid stimulating hormone. This pairing up acts on the thyroid in order to produce thyroid hormones, which travel through our bodies. Hirsutism is the name given to male patterned hair growth in females. Women who have this condition grow dark hair on their face, feet, chest, stomach, and back. Acne, deep voice, irregular periods, and small breasts are more symptoms of this condition. Sometimes there is no cause that can be identified for facial hair growth in women. With respects to the relationships between hormones and our hair growth, the role of androgenetic alopecia (AGA) hirsutism is best acknowledged(). Accordingly, therapeutic strategies that intervene in androgen metabolism have been successfully developed for treatment of these conditions. • 13. Abortion Discussion Questions The topic for this discussion board was initially intended to be about a specific interest group we wanted to see go away, so perhaps we have gone beyond the purpose of the discussion board by debating the morality of abortion itself. Despite this, I would like to continue the discussion because I find it interesting. I disagree with some of the inferences you seem to have drawn from my response. I did not imply that all abortions are justified; in fact, I would personally advocate for stricter regulations on abortion. Furthermore, I believe that your statement describing a fetus as merely a burden is an understatement of the scenarios I was trying to describe. When a fetus threatens the life of the mother, I would describe its presence as more than just a burden. However, this does not mean I necessarily support abortion when a pregnancy results from personal irresponsibility. For that reason, I would like to rephrase the last statement in my former response. Instead of saying that abortion is less often an issue of personal responsibility, a more accurate representation of my opinion is to say that abortion should less often be an issue of personal responsibility. I did not mean to describe how things currently are; rather, I intended to explain how I feel things should be. I apologize for any confusion that may have caused. ... Psychologists might explain it as a conscious decision to pardon the actions of those who ve done wrong. Religious people might identify it as an attribute that we should all have. In Simon Wiesenthals book The Sunflower, forgivenessis an important concept. Forgiveness is shown as an important concept to the story as it makes the reader questionthe forgiver s role, the importance of forgiveness, and the reason people ask for forgiveness. After talking to Bolek, Simon states, I became less and less certain as to whether I had acted rightly (Wiesenthal 83). This statement shows how Simon does not know whether what he did was right and how every person he talked to about his situation impacted his opinions. As a result, few of us likely consciously recognized the invaluable lessons present in most of the children s books we were reading. The Lorax, written by Dr. Seuss, is a classic example of one such book. His work takes the reader along on a fictional journey into the world of the Tragedy of the Commons, a place of collective despair after the mass deforestation of the famed Truffula tree. The Tragedy of the Commons, a term coined by Garrett Hardin in 1968, is a phenomenon that occurs as individuals continue to consume a public resource in greater and greater quantities over time, thinking that their singular effect will be negligible when it, in combination with the effects of many others, can cause catastrophic long term results.Though beautifully depicted in Dr. Seuss s fantasy world, the Tragedy of the Commons is an issue faced globally by societies every day. Ocean Conveyor Belt Overview/Description Demonstrates how water has different densities at different temperatures and salinity levels, then ties this in to the Ocean Conveyor Belt, a deep ocean circulation driven by temperature and salinity that carries water around the world. Background Thermohaline circulation or the Ocean Conveyor Belt is responsible for the large scale ocean circulation. It is driven by global density differences caused by surface heat, and variations in salinity. As the water moves throughout the globe with total transit times of up to 1000+ years, the water masses transport heat energy, and matter (dissolved substances, gases, and nutrients) around the globe. The density of ocean water is not the same throughout the global oceans, but varies significantly and discretely. Warm seawater expands and is therefore less dense than cooler seawater. Hawthorne describes her crime in dialogue between Hester s husband, who has just arrived in Boston and is unaware of Hester s circumstances, and a towns member who infers as to what she has done and how much of an uproar it has caused, during her public punishment, in the government forces her to stand on a scaffold for three hours and condemned to wear an A on her chest... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This page describing her crime shows how Hester defies the Puritan belief system through rebellion because the crime of adultery is a serious sin in their religion, showing that she purposely disobeys the laws of their religion by having an affair. Hester Prynne also defies the Puritan belief system through the scene where she immerges from the jail cell and is seen in public with her wedlock child for the first time. Hawthorne describes the manner in which she immerges from the jail and how the town reacts, in the quote Those who had before known her, and had expected to behold her dimmed and obscured by a disastrous cloud, were astonished, and even startled, to perceive how her beauty shone out, and made a halo of the misfortune and ignominy in which she had enveloped (46). This quote shows Hester s rebellion against the Puritan beliefs because, due to how serious her crime is seen in the Puritan community, the town members had expected her to show sorrow, shame, and weakness as she walked from the jail cell. But, instead she walks out with her head held high, ignoring their judgment, showing no shame and in the crime she committed, and disregarding the mannerisms the Puritan s expected of her. • 38. Relationship between St Augustine and Plato Discuss the relationship between St. Augustine and Plato Great philosophers over time have shared ideas about their lifetime. There were no more captivating philosophers than Plato and Augustine who fed off one another. Even though they were born at different times, their ideas impacted the life they lived in and future lives. St. Augustine was a student of the wise Plato, who fed off his ideas and created his own form of philosophy. Plato on the other hand orbited the idea of the theory of forms which, later St. Augustine incorporated into his beliefs. St. Augustine used the notion of god to resemble his ideas, as well as Plato s and a mix of Christianity to incorporate his own knowledge. The philosophical views, the ideas of good and... To them the afterlife is the heaven or paradise and earth is just preparing us to get there. Plato describes that life on earth is to prepare the soul for existence in the afterlife. Saint Augustine shares a similar view in that who knows where people and bodies came from. Did god create us or did we just magically show up. After people die they can leave their life on earth behind them and spend eternity with god. The free soul can go to heaven where his bodily desires will no longer impede his attempts at reaching the true joy of knowing God. Augustine s views are enforced through Christ and Christianity. The time periods brought different perspectives Christianity was very powerful in the time of St. Augustine and was not around when Plato was alive. To Augustine, Christ was God in human form, and his death showed God s infinite mercy, as it presented Christians with the fact that God is within reach. Both Plato and Augustine offer unusual conceptions of what one must acquire to live a truly happy life. While the conventional view of happiness normally pertains to wealth, financial stability, and material possessions, Plato and Augustine suggest that true happiness is rooted in something independent of objects or people. As women are entering the work force, they have become more autonomous and are able to live [how they] want (Sengupta). Many women are deferring marriages, while they make money, obtain higher levels of education, and live lives that most of their mothers could not have dreamed of. Additionally, in a highly communicative globalized world, there are new models of attainment with seeing women in roles of leadership, whether it is politically or economically, women may feel empowered to exercise their desire for high powers of leadership and to exercise femininity in such an emancipative way. This could result in increased political representation and participation in feminist movements by woman. On the other hand, as a result of the women being more financially independent, the transformation of the family is deviating from the patriarchal norm. In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus used parables to illustrate the kingdom of God, which is defined as God s future display of power and judgment in which he rules over all creation. The parables assure that heaven is real and an afterlife exists. According to Jesus, parables are important because although we are given knowledge of the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, they still require us to try to do some critical thinking and further reflect in order to understand the precise meaning behind the story; therefore, it is important to use the gift of understanding. First of all, Jesus used the parable of the Sower and the seeds to explain the strength of faith in an individual. A sower had dropped seeds in four different types of environments: a hard, empty footpath, a rocky ground with little soil, a bunch of thorns, and an area of good soil. Eve Sedgwick depicts this in her work, Between Men: English Literature and Male Homosexual Desire as she discusses how these ideas (paranoia) are represented within the Gothic, in what she describes as the homosocial in reference to male bonds (Sedgwick, Pg. 86). She also discusses how bonds between men exist as the backbone of social form and forms (Sedgwick, Pg. 86). The advancement of freedoms resulted from the changes in the British government. Moving from the Civil War to the Revolution, there are several forms of liberties presented. Before colonization, the first signs of freedom can be seen in the Magna Carta. The signed Magna Carta prevented the tyrannical monarch King John. W from abusing his powers (Synan). Feeling threatened by John s powers, Englishmen formed a regulation known as Habeas Corpus, which would protect themselves from unjust persecutions. Habeas Corpus allows the accused a right to a trial before prosecution. Englishmen were finally taking a stand for their freedom when they created this law.
