written by Amy Tan, Ni Kan is the queen of underachievers. She determines at a young age to become
defiant to her mom. After experiencing disappointment from letting her mom down, Ni Kan
determined that she would become an underachiever and intentionally failed throughout her life.
What makes a child determine at such a young age to defy her mom on every hand for the rest of their
life? The sad realization that Ni Kan would rather see her mother angry at her than disappointed in her
became her revelation. Anger meant that she was in control and not her mom.

1. According to Karl Marx, the proletariats are the people who are most exploited by the capitalist

C ombustion instability has long been an area of research in the design of both aircraft and rocket
engines. Specifically in terms of rocket engines, combustion instabilities occur in every type of engine
including solid rocket motors, cryogenic engines, hyperbolic engines, and hydrocarbon engines.
Although combustion oscillations tends to exist in almost every engine, the goal is to minimize these
variations in combustion such that any pressure oscillations are below the ambient noise of the engine
itself. In order to reduce the linear and nonlinear coupling that causes these instabilities, it is important
to identify not only the types of oscillations that occur but also the causes for each of these
oscillations.
In liquid engines there are three main types of instabilities. These are chugging oscillations which are
low frequency, buzzing oscillations which are of an intermediate frequency, and screeching which is a
high frequency oscillation. Additionally, instabilities can oscillate in three different direction, due to

Introduction Throughout my life, I have always been taught to be respectful and grateful. My mother
instilled in me these two values at a young age and emphasized on its significance. This helped me
realize that, in this world, there are many people who undergo unbearable adversities, far worse,
traumatic, and painful than I do. This awakening encouraged me to be more grateful for my
experiences. As a child, I was cognizant of people with mental disorders but there had always been
that barrier that prevented me from approaching and getting to know them better until I met my best
friend s brother in high school. It was as if a new door opened up to my sense of identity and self
awareness in this world. Fortunately, as years passed by, my best friend s brother and I grew close. I
realized that autistic people were people just like us who needed to be cared for and loved
compassionately just like every human being. This past year, I started working for a company that
shelters people diagnosed of Autism Spectrum Disorder, which allowed me to firsthand witness what
was so new to me, and most important to learn about the disorder. According to CDC, autism
spectrum disorder is a group of developmental disabilities that can cause significant social
communication and behavioral challenges (2015). Needless to say, while people diagnosed of ASD
