Family Observation
To reflect on my experience on the family observation, I will be using Gibbs reflective cycle (1984;
cited in Maclean Harrison, 2015). Gibbs reflective cycle will guide my exploration of the family
observation using the following headings: description, feelings, evaluation, analyse, conclusion and
action plan. This will reflect on my experience of the family observation it will provide an account of
the task that I am required to carry out, what took place, an account of my feelings, an evaluation of
the experience, an analysis of the events, a conclusion and an action plan.
Description
I completed three one hour family observations in a three week period based on Beatrice and her child
Marvin in their family home. The initial visit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe that this opportunity was used to identify my strengths and areas of development required in
social work practice and develop an understanding of human development in relation to sociology and
psychology.
The British Association of Social Workers (BASWA) Professional Capability Framework (PCFD),
social workers are required to demonstrate and understand psychology and sociology theory applied in
practice. The family observation reflections were an opportunity to reflect on the theories that I could
identify during the family observation (See Appendix A; BASW, 2013).
Department of Education (2014) published knowledge and skills for children and family social work
which identifies the skills and ability for children and family social worker. This document suggests
that social worker should recognise theory covering the following areas: physical, cognitive, social,
emotional and behavioural development over a life span. Social workers should also be able to
understand that normative development on and individual based on each child depending on genetic
factor, health and disability as an example (ibid).

Class Differences In Sociological Analysis
Social structures are limitations that affect the lives of individuals and groups in the society. Social
structures such as class, gender and ethnicity are the limitations that society has to cope with in one
way or another (Lawson et al, 2002). Class (upper class, middle class, and poor) is a the most
favoured limitation that influence the lives of individuals and groups. Social class is the key source of
economic and material inequality and is found in all societies (Marron et al, 2011).
Karl Marx and Max Weber are two classical sociologists that explain the term social structures in
global perspective. Karl Marx argued that there were two classes: the ruling class (bourgeoisie) and
the working class (proletariat) (Chris Yuill et al, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People that lives in a deprived area are more likely to smell poverty (Macdonald et al, 2005). The
wealth or poverty of an urban environment influences the type of public services and private sector
enterprises (Annandale, 2014). For example, women born between 2010 and 2012, the life expectation
in a relatively well to do region of Dorset was 86.6 years and 78.5 years for the women born in a
relatively poor region of Glasgow. Also, men aged 65 in a relatively well to do region of Harrow,
could hope to live for another 20.9 years compared to 14.9 years in Glasgow (ONS,

The Pros And Cons Of Minority Groups
One of the main reasons for a state to be created would be the protection of the people who live in it,
therefore, one of a state s main concerns should be the security of its citizens, especially in dealing
with threats, whether they are traditional or non traditional. Every day, lives are put at peril when these
threats are not dealt with properly.
Sadly, human rights and the issues connected to it are often disregarded as something that is less
important, especially when compared to issues such as arms proliferation or territorial integrity or the
strategic interests of a state. That is to say, not that these issues are not critically important as well.
However, the world would be a much better place if in dealing with each other and accommodating ...

However, what to do if the majority is hostile towards the minority? Minority groups should have the
same rights and protection as the majority group. However, this is often not the case. Either it is
because more members from the majority group are represented in positions of decision making, or
either it is out of fear of upsetting members of the majority group, the minority groups in a state are
often put at disadvantage with their rights at least partially lessened. Although constitutions and laws
may demand for equality, the truth is not always so sweet. In fact, in many states across the
international stage, minorities are rarely a member of the government, especially if there already is a
prejudice or social jealousy towards these groups. However, representation and political rights would
be the least of concerns when one considers that some minority groups are so oppressed that they have
to face the threat of violence daily. The dilemma for the government is that many are not capable of
doing a decent job at protecting the minorities of their nation since it can possibly upset the majority
group, other than having to spend time and resources

The Psychological Phenomenon Of The Bystander Effect
Paragraph 1 (introduction and thesis) Thesis not included From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia This
article is about the psychological phenomenon. For the bystander effect in radiobiology, see Bystander
effect (radiobiology). The bystander effect, or bystander apathy, is a social psychological phenomenon
that refers to cases in which individuals do not offer any means of help to a victim when other people
are present. The probability of help is inversely related to the number of bystanders. In other words,
the greater the number of bystanders, the less likely it is that any one of them will help. No thesis

Genovese was arriving home in her built up neighborhood from a late night shift as a bar manager in
Queens, New York. She was suddenly attacked with a knife by a man named Winston Moseley. She

people heard her. People who didn t lift a finger to help. People who didn t want to get involved , who
didn t call the police. Moseley saw lights come on in the apartments nearby. He knew people were
watching. He ran off, leaving Catherine to drag herself into a doorway where she lay bleeding she

Petron Malaysia is part of the rising and rapidly evolving Asian oil company in the Philippines, Petron
Corporation. Malaysia s dynamic and effective market with the achievement of ExxonMobil s
businesses in March 2012 had attracted Petron Corporation to join them. Petron subsidiaries in
Malaysia consist of Petron Malaysia Refining Marketing Bhd ( PMRMB ), Petron Fuel International

Operation Mincemeat Ben Macintyre
Operation Mincemeat was written by Ben Macintyre, a writer for the Times of London, and an author
whose works are mainly on the espionage aspect of the Allied war effort in World War II, especially
the use of double agents. Macintyre became interested in Operation Mincemeat while conducting
research for another book on Eddie Chapman, a British double agent. He was specifically drawn to
Ewen Montagu, one of the masterminds behind this operation. Although Montagu had written a book
about these events, titled The Man Who Never Was in 1953, Macintyre understood that certain details
were omitted from the published work as it first had to be authorized by the Joint Intelligence
Committee. In order to fill in the gaps in Montagu s book, Macintyre began to search for the classified
documents pertaining to the operation, which he eventually obtained after contacting Montagu s son.
In fact, Macintyre eventually obtained Montagu s letters, his unpublished autobiography and the
uncensored version of his original book, which would be the sources of information for his new book
on Operation Mincemeat. Another factor that led him to write this book was the lack of material on
this secret operation available to the public, partly due to the British government s unwillingness to
divulge these classified operations from the war for almost fifty years. With the relaxing of these
restrictions by the government, Macintyre felt it was time to paint the complete picture of the events

The Importance Of Action In Advocacy
Action in Advocacy
To advocate for the standardization of educational requirements a tactical advocacy framework
utilizing Group Formulation is necessary to develop groups with the same goal (Stachowiak, 2013).
Choosing group formulation as an advocacy strategy aligns with my leadership philosophy of servant
leadership and ACA value of practicing in an ethical manner. I feel a need to fill a leadership gap and
find a way to assist the organization with being an agent of change, even if this means running for an
elected office in an association.
If I were elected the President of AASCB, I will have to maintain an ethical balance between the rights
of the state, protecting the community, and advancing the protection. Beginning this project ... Show

The process will take some time, as I will need to attend licensure board meetings to understand the
culture of the boards. Understanding the culture of the board will guide me towards the best approach
to recommend changes in current regulations. Utilizing the servant leadership approach, I will invite
other AASCB members with interest in standardizing the educational standards to attend licensure
board meetings and meetings. Incorporating other members of the group will empower them to serve
as leaders in their mesosystem, and creating a larger group of interested parties.
Funding
Advocacy is often seen as people speaking out for a compelling cause and the funding is often
overlooked. Oklahoma like other states is in a budget crisis and changing standards will have ripple
effects down to the microlevel, requiring schools in the state to obtain accreditation. The acceptance of
CACREP accredited education as the standard will make the credit requirements obsolete and require
programs to seek accreditation. This program impacts every level of professional counseling, it is
necessary to identify an appropriate funding source to promote and implement the changes to
standards at the state board level. Prior to presenting the issue to the leader of the licensure board, I
will ensure I outline sources of funding for this initiative.
The U.S. Department of Education is a useful source for funding of higher education

Apple Stereotyping
In Steven Levy s article The new iPods: Random sampling or not?, he postulates that Apple s
mechanism for shuffling songs is not entirely random. Apple popularized its shuffle feature in 2004
with the slogan Life is Random. However, Levy finds this difficult to believe. He consistently gets
songs by Steely Dan and nothing by Aretha Franklin, despite the supposed randomized shuffling
feature. Yet, Apple maintains that its shuffling process is randomized. Ultimately, the problem is
because of Apple s coding, user error, or due to random sampling error. Apple describes its process of
shuffling like a Vegas dealer shuffles a deck of cards. The effectiveness of this process is dependant
upon the code that Apple uses. If there is any bias

Social Issues In The Glass Castle By Jeannette Walls
The Glass Castle Jeannette Walls, subject and author of The Glass Castle, includes several social issues
that she and her family come across daily during her childhood. However, the three most important
social issues the memoir addresses is poverty, alcoholism, and child abuse. These social issues affect a
large amount of children with their emotions and social development.
To start, poverty is referred to lack of means necessary to meet basic needs like food, clothing and
shelter. In the memoir, poverty is a major social issue for the Wall family. At times, the Wall children
would go days without having anything to eat and kept their hunger to themselves, but would always
think of ways to get their hands on some food (67).

Child abuse is physical, sexual, or psychological mistreatment or neglect of a child, especially by a
parent or other caregiver. Throughout the memoir Jeannette recounts many forms of child abuse that
she and her siblings had to experience. To illustrate, one example from The Glass Castle is when Erma
sexually abuses Brian. I went into Grandpa s bedroom and saw Erma kneeling on the floor in front of
Brian, grabbing his crotch of his pants, squeezing and kneading while mumbling to herself and telling
Brian to hold still, goddammit. Brian, his cheeks wet with tears, was holding his hands protectively
between his legs (146). When Rex and Rosemary came back home from Phoenix, it seemed Rex had
an idea of what had happened to Brian. After Rex telling the children that they were wrong for their
actions towards their grandmother, Jeanette and Lori notice that Rex was unusually odd about the
situation between Erma and Brian. Jeanette was disgusted and disturbed to think Erma had abused
their father as a child. She also realized at that moment why her father drank so much and got so mad ,
why Rex never wanted to visit Welch when the children were younger, and at first his refusal to go to

Literature Review Literature On Customer Satisfaction
Literature review:
Customer satisfaction has been a famous topic in marketing practice and study research since Cardozo
s (1965) earlyl study of customer effort, demands and satisfaction. In spite of many try to measure and
explain customer satisfaction, there still does not show to be a accord regarding its explanation (Giese
and Cote, 2000). Customer satisfaction is commonly outline as a old used idea judgment concerning a
specific work or service (Gundersen, Heide and Olsson, 1996). It is the answer of an estimate process
that against pre purchase requirements with perceptions of performance during and after the
consuming know how (Oliver, 1980).
The most broader range accepted conceptualization of the customer satisfaction concept is the
expectancy contradict theory (McQuitty, Finn and Wiley, 2000). The theory was made by Oliver, who
aimed that satisfaction level is a moral of the contrast between expected and perceived result.
Definitions of customer satisfaction have been broader discussed from the view of many researchers
and organizations who extend the desire to measure it. A group of researchers of the Center for the

Measuring Intelligence Through Objective, Culturally...
Maria Orrego PSYC 2001: Cross Cultural Psychology 13 March 2016 Measuring Intelligence
Through Objective, Culturally Unbiased Testing It takes something more than intelligence to act
intelligently. ― Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Crime and Punishment One might dare to define intelligence as
the ability to obtain and apply knowledge and skills, or as the capacity to learn, comprehend, or deal
with new or difficult situation in order to adapt to or modify our environment or to process abstract
thoughts. However, on a paper defined by Shane and Hutter as a survey of a large number of informal
definitions of intelligence that [they] collected over the years (A Collection of Definitions, 2007), the
authors acknowledged that a complete list would be impossible as many definitions of intelligence are
buried deep inside articles and books (idem). Beyond their own recognition about the limits of their
compilation, even after careful analysis carried out by philosophers, psychologists and other scientists
throughout human history, still there is not a definite, cover all definition of intelligence. Maybe we
still do not possess sufficient intelligence to reach such achievement at this point of our evolution.
Notwithstanding, for the purposes of this work, I will attempt to provide a comprehensive definition
or, should it be possible, a series of definitions based on varied criteria. In attempting so, I will begin

The Importance Of The San Jacinto Monument
Texas Artwork
As a proud Texas native, I want to discuss the San Jacinto Monument. It is built in the location of
where the final battler was fought for Texas to gain independence from Mexico. Without this battle,
the course of history and Texas would have been extremely different. The importance of this
monument is overlooked by people that are not from Texas.
The San Jacinto Monument is located in La Porte, Texas just west of Houston. The monument is
roughly 570 feet tall, and at the top of this massive monument is a 220 ton star. The Washington
Monument is roughly 554 feet tall. That makes the San Jacinto Monument almost 20 feet taller than
the Washington Monument. It took 3 years for the monument to be fully constructed and completed
before being dedicated on April 21, 1939. The star is a massive 34 feet tall, as a symbol of something
that Texas has always been known as The Lone Star State . The monument is only 78 years old,
making it still a fairly young Texas Monument.
The monument was designed by both Alfred C. Finn and Robert J. Cummins and cost about 1.5
million dollars to construct over the 3 years. They designed the monument to be built 570 feet tall
including the 34 feet tall star that sits on top of it. The monument is built as an octagon that has a base
used to hold a museum inside it. The museum holds several interesting letters and artifacts that have
been collected to help give inside perspective to the battles that led to the Battle of San Jacinto, as

The first work they played was called Allegro by Demenico Cimarosa. This sonata was originally

1. How strong is the evidence to support Dr. Splinter s arguments in favor of the plastic bag ban, and

There was a reduction of over 1600 plastic bags ending up in the local waterways, with plastic bags
being 3.2% of all litter found in the waterways, and they were previously 8.2% in 2011.
(SanJoseCA.gov, 2012). The ban on plastic bags seemed to greatly affect the city in a positive way
and did not appear to have a negative effect at all, despite protests by some locals and business
owners.
Of course, there are adjustments with any change in policy or law, but the plastic bag ban can be one
that can help the nature preserve, as well as the local area. Essentially costs may go up initially, but in
the long run, the city will save money in a variety of ways while helping to keep wildlife safe, and
waterways cleaner. Dr. Splinter s observation that a ban is necessary is a solid argument and is one
that the city should adopt.

the limitations of this evidence? Specific arguments are that local businesses will lose sales, empirical
evidence does not indicate that the projected benefits of plastic bag bans will materialize, the cost of
purchasing reusable bags adversely impacts the poor, and the same projected benefits of the plastic
bag ban can be achieved by stronger recycling efforts. What specific information in the

Historical Reliability Of The Story Of Jesus
We often approach the Gospels with tightly held presuppositions. Many people, myself included,
believe that the Gospels are a reliable historical resource. The Story of Jesus documentary both
undergirds and challenges these presuppositions. The historicity of the Gospels is a thread which
underlies the entirety of the Christian faith. The reliability of the Gospels is integral to the life and
ministry of Christ. If the Gospels are not historically reliable we lose the largest historical witness to
Christ, therefore rendering our belief unprovable and thus void to the world at large. The historic
reliability of the Gospels is significant to the life and ministry of Christ because it is the very thing that

She has smooth skin, a lean muscular body, and large breasts. Her long wavy blonde hair flows over
her tan body, while her blue eyes gaze towards the man and the running shoe on the other page. Her
body appears nearly flawless, from her long acrylic nails to her perfectly straight teeth. She wears a
sexy leopard print triangle top and bikini bottom which leaves little to the imagination. The woman
portrays a very feminine image. Her body posture gives a sense of vulnerability and her lack of eye
contact conveys passiveness. Her overall look demonstrates a strong image of sexuality. This
advertisement offers the consumer the idea that when he buys Avia?s new shoes and goes for a run in
them, he will come home to find a gorgeous woman waiting on the couch for them. The man that
purchases these shoes views the attractive woman in this advertisement as a sexual prize. As Jean

but an object that comes with the product. Consumers, and society in general, may dismiss this
advertisement as a ridiculous equation of A+B=C, but subconsciously, they internalize what they have

Data mining is one of the essentially used and interesting research areas. Mining association rule is
one of the important research techniques in data mining field. Many algorithms for mining association
rules are proposed on the basis of Apriori algorithm and improving the algorithm strategy but most of
these algorithms not concentrate on the structure of database. The proposed technique includes
transposition of database with further enhancement in this particular transposition technique. This
approach will reduce the total scans over the database and then time consumed to generate the
association rules will be less.

J.D. Salinger s A Perfect Day for Bananafish
At first glance, J.D. Salinger s short story A Perfect Day for Bananafish is the story of a psychically
torn war veteran whose post traumatic stress moves him to take his own life while on a second
honeymoon with his wife. Indeed, that is the story, but that first glance does not reveal the inner
motives and symbolic pathways Seymour Glass takes to reach the final decision to end his life. The
carefully placed details and minute innuendoes are deliberate on Salinger s part, and they represent
pieces of the puzzle to find out what is really happening in the protagonist s head. Indeed, A Perfect
Day is just one part of the Glass family saga, and Seymour s character and family ... Show more

Now, if instead of ?See More? Glass we define him as ?See More Glass? then I have a slightly more
cryptic interpretation for his name. Now, the Glass family is Jewish, as is established in Salinger?s
Nine Stories, and Seymour is a veteran of World War II. Before America?s involvement in the war, on
November 9th, 1938, there was a very violent uprising of Reich citizens against the Jewish population
orchestrated by Joseph Goebbels. During that time thousands Jewish citizens were rounded up for
concentration camps and their businesses were destroyed, littering the streets with glass from their
storefronts. That night came to be known as the Kristallnacht, or in English, the ?Night of Broken
Glass.? Though I know there is no direct link to this night in the story, and indeed it took place before
Seymour was even in Europe, it has a direct link to the first major violence against Jews as well as a
sharp spike in the number of Jewish adults who committed suicide to escape the horrors of the Reich.
The perhaps far fetched, I feel this more esoteric interpretation of Seymour?s name could well
represent the link to the horrors he experienced during his tenure in World War II.
A name is a metaphysical representation of a person, but there are physical hints in Seymour?s
characterization that hint towards a greater purpose in his actions. Muriel tells her mother that he
wears his bathrobe on the beach so that people won?t see his

Airmobile Tactics During The Vietnam War Essay
Usage of Airmobile Tactics During the Vietnam War The Vietnam War was the first successful large
scale usage of rotary wing aircraft to move combat troops and equipment around the battlefield in the
history of warfare. The terrain and vegetation of the Vietnam countryside make most parts of the
country inaccessible to wheeled and tracked vehicles and using relatively inexpensive aircraft was the
best way to move troops around during that timeframe. Using helicopters, it was now possible to not
only place troops and equipment where they were most needed, but it also made a quick way to bring
back wounded troops back to the rear areas for trauma care. The 11th Air Assault Division (Test)
initially tested the concept of large scale airmobile operations and was later reflagged as the 1St
Cavalry Division (Airmobile) with assets from the 2nd Infantry Division. The 1st Cavalry initially
fielded four types of helicopters, the Bell OH 13S Sioux, Bell UH 1 Iroquois, as transport (UH 1D)
and gunship (UH 1B), and Boeing Vertol CH 47 Chinook. Each was significantly improved over time,
and each received many specialized modifications. These aircraft were used extensively in ... Show

Before Vietnam, the time it took to transport a casualty to surgical medical care was usually tracked in
days; the UH 1s made it where those statistics were tracked in hours. The concept of the golden hour
was born during this conflict. The Golden Hour standard is used in emergency medicine and trauma
care and states a person must receive definitive care within one hour to ensure optimal outcomes. This
simply could not have been accomplished without the extensive usage of helicopters as the primary
means of transport. Countless lives were saved because of much quicker access to health care than

The United States Will Fight Foreign And Domestic Terrorism
Technology has come a long way since the early 90 s. With modern advances, technology is just about
incorporated in everything we do in our day to day lives. Since technology has been incorporated into
our everyday lives, it may raise some concerns about what may be happening in the background. One
of these concerns would be privacy, we all may take it for granted but it is our constitutional rights as
Americans. But this all changed after the September 2001 attack on the twin towers.
The September 2001 attacks on the twin towers will forever change how the United States will fight
foreign and domestic terrorism. The implementation of The Program starting on October 4th, was set
out to collect massive amounts of data via Internet and telephone records to ensure national security.
Many people within the NSA didn t even know about this program because it was so classified. The
select few that knew about this program, had several different views about how ethical this program
was. But many of them viewed it as an unethical practice and a clear violation of the Constitution of
United States. But some of them viewed it as necessary to national security.
Diana Roark was one of the few that believed that The Program was unconstitutional and clearly
unethical. In the documentary United States of Secrets, Diana Roark was presented with The Program

Filibuster In The Senate Essay
Christian Sandoval PA 200 4/2/2016 Filibuster In the Senate The US Constitution created the simple
format of Majority Rule and Minority right. The minority has the right to express their beliefs, it is the
majority that creates the legislation. However, the minority s has the power of filibustering and the
ability to block legislation. In the video by Moyers Company the video talks about the subject of how
the rules of filibuster in the senate have changed throughout the years and the different senate
majorities have made those different changes. Filibusters create partisanship and are frustrating,
especially to the majority party, but they are necessary and acceptable tool for the lawmakers to use

The majority party is not able to be as powerful with their choices and ideology as they want. This
allows for all parties and hopefully all of the population a rather equal representation in the
government. It works as a check and balance to the House of Representatives who has overruled the
use of the filibuster. The reason being that a bill passed by the House must also go through the Senate.
The filibuster is a tool not to just be thrown around lightly by the minority party ,however, because at
some point on down the line they will be the majority party and it could come back to hurt them. A lot
of the time an actual filibuster does not have to be used by the minority however. The threat of the
filibuster is sometimes enough to get the job done. Although there have being propositions to change
the filibuster rules in order to make them a burden on the filibustering speaker in the long run when
the ruling party changes to minority it can be troublesome for them. Few years back Senator Reid
from Nevada wanted to make changes to the filibustering tactics this tactic as it applies to executive
nominees but, because next time Republicans are in charge there are no guarantees that they would

Why All Police Officers Should Carry Tasers
In this day and age self protection is always a key concern for many people. The fear of crime and
even the people who commit crime, there is always a chance that you could get robbed, caught up in
physical altercation, or even happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. People in general
approach these situations differently and prepare for these situations in different ways. Smart people
normally avoid putting themselves in situations like these by just avoiding problem areas thus
eliminating as much trouble as they possibly can. However, police officers put their lives on the line

I feel the answer is yes and here s why. Much of these reasons are based on my own experiences
working as a federal law enforcement official with the United States Coast Guard overseas and on the
home front. All police should have effective methods to divert to when criminals are hazardous or
uncooperative. Usually police officers carry pepper spray, batons, and a firearm. In many cases the
baton is seen as brutal or violent method to get suspect to cooperate simply by beating them. Then
there is pepper spray which I have had personally shot in my face with. The pain caused by pepper
spray is intense ... [and causes] an involuntary closing of the eyes, a gagging reflex, and temporary
paralysis of the larynx (Wu, 371). It is very effective but on the flip side if a officer sprays pepper
spray the odds that some of the spray gets on the officer is also very likely causing discomfort and
possibly impairing the officer for seeing properly if it blows back in his eyes. Also, pepper spray
sometimes has no effect on people under the influence of drugs. Third, there are firearms and let s face
it if a gun is involved odds are very high that someone ends up dead and that s never a good thing. I

What Was the Effect of Photography on Painting in the...
What was the effect of photography on painting in the nineteenth century? The photograph was
developed in 1839 simultaneously in England and France by Talbot and Daguerre. That is the
technique of chemically fixing of an image produced by exposure to rays of sun. William Fox Talbot
was an English scholar and scientist who developed the negative and positive process. He used
sensitive paper soaked in sodium hyposulphite called calotype. This became the basis for all
subsequent photography. Photography joined the art world after a long struggle. Although early
photography such as Daguerreotype and Calotype appeared by the mid 19th century, photographs only
began to be displayed in art galleries and museums only in the early 20th century. ... Show more

Two successful Munich portrait artists Franz Lenbach (1836 1904) and Franz Stuck (1863 1928), used
photography extensively to reduce sittings and speed production; Lenbach accumulated a photo
archive of 13, 000 images, many of them taken by the Munich professional Karl Hahn. Today, Hahn s
revealing preparatory photographs of celebrities like Bismarck and Field Marshal von Moltke seem
considerably more interesting than Lenbach s portraits. Other artists closely linked with photography
were the members of the enormously influential plein airiste movement founded by Jules Bastien
Lepage (1848 84). Pascal Adolphe Jean Dagnan Bouveret (1852 1929), Émile Friant (1863 1932),
Alexis Muenier, and the Hessian peasant painter Carl Bantzer all used the camera to record details of
costumes and settings, and to experiment with different groupings and poses. However, the
widespread belief that art and photography were incompatible made artists reticent about their
activities. When, for example, in 1897 the critic Karl Voll complained to his friend, the painter Max
Slevogt, about the use of photographic studies, he had no idea that Slevogt was already well versed in
the practice. But photography had its most dramatic effect on painting as a technology of
reproduction. From the beginning, numerous observers had suggested that by reproducing works
accurately and inexpensively, photography could visually educate a wider public, and so build a larger,

Limewater Test Lab Report
1. Limewater Test: As we exhaled CO2 in the limewater solution, the CO2 reacted with Ca(OH)2 and
changed the clear colorless limewater solution to precipitated white solution. The precipitation was
caused due to the calcium in the limewater solution. It took us 5 attempts to turn the clear colorless
limewater solution to a milky white solution. 2. Phenolphthalein Indicator Test: As phenolphthalein
indicator was added to NaOH and H2O solution, it made the solution turn clear pink. The
phenolphthalein indicator detects the presence of the base in the solution by changing the color of the

Phenolphthalein Indicator Test: CO2 (g) + H2O(l) H2CO3(aq) H2CO3(aq) + 2NaOH(aq)
Na2CO3(aq) + 2H2O(l) How would the results of both tests be affected if you performed the tests
immediately after vigorously exercising for several minutes? Explain. Performing vigorous exercise
requires a high demand of energy in order to be accomplished, the body adapts to this change by
increasing the rate of aerobic cellular respiration which would produce more energy to meet the needs.
As a result there would be much more carbon dioxide being exhaled from the body as it is one of the
waste products produced during aerobic cellular respiration. CO2 is specifically formed during the
Pyruvate oxidation and Kreb Cycle stage of the cellular respiration. To exemplify during pyruvate
oxidation one of the steps is a decarboxylation reaction in which the carboxyl group of pyruvate is
removed to from CO2. Overall for one glucose molecule two molecules of CO2 is released during
pyruvate oxidation as glycolysis yields two pyruvate molecules. Furthermore the Krebs Cycle also
produces CO2 molecules during the oxidation of isocitrate which produces a ketoglutarate. Another
CO2 molecule is also produced during the oxidation of a ketoglutarate. This reaction produces the
molecule succinyl CoA. As a result two CO2 molecules are produced for one acetyl CoA. These
points exemplify how the increase rate of cellular respiration would increase the rate of CO2 being
exhaled. In connection to the lab investigation this would speed up the rate of reactions as there would
be a much higher concentration of CO2 being exhaled compared to when the body is at rest. As a
result this would increase the amount of product being produced because of the increase of CO2 in the
reaction. Due to which the lab experiment would occur at a higher rate and it would be faster as

Genesis states that the first person to be circumcised was Abraham. God had told Abraham to not only
circumcise himself, but his children, his slaves, and any males in his household as well. This was a
practice that was to be done from generation to generation. In early history during BCE, this was used
as a way to separate the Israelites from the Philistines. Years earlier, there wasn t much difference
between the Israelite community and its neighboring people. But with the arrival of the Philistines
changed how they identified themselves as a separate group of people. As time progresses, so do the
opinions when it comes to circumcision.
There was a huge threat to the Jewish tradition due to the efforts of Jews to cover their marks of
circumcision. Assimilation into the communities that Jews lived in was a common challenge. Keeping
with tradition when living in a community that wasn t always accepting, was difficult. Especially
when it was sometimes punished greatly. Because circumcision was strongly associated with Judaism,
many Jews would try to remove the marks of this ritual off of their bodies. During the rule of
Antiochus IV Epiphanes, there was great crisis for the Jews that were living in Jerusalem. Previously,
Antiochus III allowed Jews to live according to their customs, but that was different under the rule of
Antiochus IV. There was bans on religious traditions and even violations of temples. Because of

Phoenix Jackson: Rising from the Ashes Many authors incorporate mythological creatures in stories to
represent the virtues and vices of their lead characters. Eudora Welty s character Phoenix Jackson
symbolizes resurrection in A Worn Path, and therefore identifies with the legendary phoenix. The
Encyclopedia Britannica describes the phoenix, as large as an eagle, with brilliant scarlet and gold
plumage and a melodious cry. Only one phoenix existed at any time, and it was very long lived, and at
the end of the bird s lifespan it would catch fire for a new phoenix to rise from the ashes ( phoenix ).
Phoenix Jackson is an old Negro woman that is making a difficult journey including both physical and
mental challenges; she overcomes these trials as a result of her unconditional love for her grandson

condition, but she endures the journey to help comfort her grandson. The physical appearance of the
phoenix is merged into the main character and, the aspect of rebirth is mentioned at the end of story.

Everyday creativity is always dialogical in Bakhtin s sense .
To what extent do you agree or disagree wit this perspective?
Traditional definitions of language have often categorised creative activity in the canonical literary
uses we see in artistic works. However, contemporary definitions no longer confine creativity with
language to the work of the novelist or poet. It is a well argued point that the seeds of such literary
language reside in what may be described, as the mundane, practical uses of everyday talk and
writing. This shift in opinion and approach to language study may be largely attributed to the work of
Mikhail Bakhtin, who developed a social theory of language. Bakhtin s main argument was that there

Bakhtin would argue that it is exactly this responsive and addressive, dialogic nature of interaction
and communication that stimulates creativity in language use, affecting the form and meaning on all
levels. (2006) With this in mind, it may seem surprising that this can also be exemplified in what is
ordinarily considered to be the very private activity of keeping a diary or journal. Many diaries draw
considerably on literary uses of language, such as parallelism, metaphor, rhythm and imagery. Janet
Maybin (2006) explains that this use of language may help to express strong emotions in a way that
more prosaic language could not communicate as effectively. Maybin relates diary writing to identity
work, the literacy process ..providing a kind of backstage for the self, or a launching pad for an

Griet Religion
In her novel Girl With a Pearl Earring, Tracy Chevalier constructs the story of Griet, the imagined
subject of Vermeer s famous painting. In doing so, she sheds light on the culture of 17th century
Holland, particularly the tensions and differences between the communities of two Christian sects.
Born into a Protestant family, Griet is forced to work as a maid when her father cannot support the
family. The artist Vermeer becomes her master, and she must learn to navigate his Catholic household.
As Griet reacts to the new culture she has been thrust into, many historical references to 1660s Dutch
society can be found. In her novel, Chevalier emphasizes the significance of religious differences
between Griet and the family she works for and examines the use of imagery within Catholicism by

Chaucer s Canterbury Tales: The General Prologue portrays the newly formed social division in
Medieval England by having people from the noble, gentry, church, and working social groups come

During the fourteenth century, the control of the church weakened, and the church officials were no
longer seen as nobility. Despite being poor, the parson in The Canterbury Tales displayed a
hardworking and caring demeanor. Chaucer further explains the parson s character by mentioning, that
first he wroughte, and afterward he taught (499). The parson s involvement in society can be mirrored
by not only modern day preachers and church leaders, but by teachers as well. Teachers take the
knowledge from their education and convey this wisdom onto students, much like the parson. The
qualities of today s working class can be seen through Chaucer s depiction of the plowman. Indicating
the importance and humility of the plowman s work, Chaucer establishes his significance in society.
Our farmers, factory workers, and construction workers show the same persistent work ethic as the
plowman, which exemplifies that they are the foundation of the American society. Where class and
social status does not determine acceptability, the Canterbury Chapel is common ground for all the

The Psychological Phenomenon Of The Bystander Effect Paragraph 1 (introduction and thesis) Thesis not included From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia This article is about the psychological phenomenon. For the bystander effect in radiobiology, see Bystander effect (radiobiology). The bystander effect, or bystander apathy, is a social psychological phenomenon that refers to cases in which individuals do not offer any means of help to a victim when other people are present. The probability of help is inversely related to the number of bystanders. In other words, the greater the number of bystanders, the less likely it is that any one of them will help. No thesis included...create one for your document. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bystander_effect Paragraph 2 (narrative of Catherine Genovese s attack) On Friday 13 March in 1964, 28 year old Catherine Genovese was arriving home in her built up neighborhood from a late night shift as a bar manager in Queens, New York. Operation Mincemeat Ben Macintyre Operation Mincemeat was written by Ben Macintyre, a writer for the Times of London, and an author whose works are mainly on the espionage aspect of the Allied war effort in World War II, especially the use of double agents. Macintyre became interested in Operation Mincemeat while conducting research for another book on Eddie Chapman, a British double agent. He was specifically drawn to Ewen Montagu, one of the masterminds behind this operation. Although Montagu had written a book about these events, titled The Man Who Never Was in 1953, Macintyre understood that certain details were omitted from the published work as it first had to be authorized by the Joint Intelligence Committee. In order to fill in the gaps in Montagu s book, Macintyre began to search for the classified documents pertaining to the operation, which he eventually obtained after contacting Montagu s son. In fact, Macintyre eventually obtained Montagu s letters, his unpublished autobiography and the uncensored version of his original book, which would be the sources of information for his new book on Operation Mincemeat. Another factor that led him to write this book was the lack of material on this secret operation available to the public, partly due to the British government s unwillingness to divulge these classified operations from the war for almost fifty years. With the relaxing of these restrictions by the government, Macintyre felt it was time to paint the complete picture of the events surrounding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The importance of this monument is overlooked by people that are not from Texas. The San Jacinto Monument is located in La Porte, Texas just west of Houston. Before America?s involvement in the war, on November 9th, 1938, there was a very violent uprising of Reich citizens against the Jewish population orchestrated by Joseph Goebbels. The photograph was developed in 1839 simultaneously in England and France by Talbot and Daguerre. That is the technique of chemically fixing of an image produced by exposure to rays of sun. William Fox Talbot was an English scholar and scientist who developed the negative and positive process. He used sensitive paper soaked in sodium hyposulphite called calotype. This became the basis for all subsequent photography. Photography joined the art world after a long struggle. Although early photography such as Daguerreotype and Calotype appeared by the mid 19th century, photographs only began to be displayed in art galleries and museums only in the early 20th century. ... Two successful Munich portrait artists Franz Lenbach (1836 1904) and Franz Stuck (1863 1928), used photography extensively to reduce sittings and speed production; Lenbach accumulated a photo archive of 13, 000 images, many of them taken by the Munich professional Karl Hahn. Today, Hahn s revealing preparatory photographs of celebrities like Bismarck and Field Marshal von Moltke seem considerably more interesting than Lenbach s portraits. Other artists closely linked with photography were the members of the enormously influential plein airiste movement founded by Jules Bastien Lepage (1848 84). Pascal Adolphe Jean Dagnan Bouveret (1852 1929), Émile Friant (1863 1932), Alexis Muenier, and the Hessian peasant painter Carl Bantzer all used the camera to record details of costumes and settings, and to experiment with different groupings and poses. However, the widespread belief that art and photography were incompatible made artists reticent about their activities. When, for example, in 1897 the critic Karl Voll complained to his friend, the painter Max Slevogt, about the use of photographic studies, he had no idea that Slevogt was already well versed in the practice. But photography had its most dramatic effect on painting as a technology of reproduction. From the beginning, numerous observers had suggested that by reproducing works accurately and inexpensively, photography could visually educate a wider public, and so build a larger, more ... Limewater Test: As we exhaled CO2 in the limewater solution, the CO2 reacted with Ca(OH)2 and changed the clear colorless limewater solution to precipitated white solution. Phenolphthalein Indicator Test: CO2 (g) + H2O(l) H2CO3(aq) H2CO3(aq) + 2NaOH(aq) Na2CO3(aq) + 2H2O(l) How would the results of both tests be affected if you performed the tests immediately after vigorously exercising for several minutes? Explain. Performing vigorous exercise requires a high demand of energy in order to be accomplished, the body adapts to this change by increasing the rate of aerobic cellular respiration which would produce more energy to meet the needs. As a result there would be much more carbon dioxide being exhaled from the body as it is one of the waste products produced during aerobic cellular respiration. CO2 is specifically formed during the Pyruvate oxidation and Kreb Cycle stage of the cellular respiration. To exemplify during pyruvate oxidation one of the steps is a decarboxylation reaction in which the carboxyl group of pyruvate is removed to from CO2. Overall for one glucose molecule two molecules of CO2 is released during pyruvate oxidation as glycolysis yields two pyruvate molecules. Furthermore the Krebs Cycle also produces CO2 molecules during the oxidation of isocitrate which produces a ketoglutarate. Another CO2 molecule is also produced during the oxidation of a ketoglutarate. This reaction produces the molecule succinyl CoA. As a result two CO2 molecules are produced for one acetyl CoA. These points exemplify how the increase rate of cellular respiration would increase the rate of CO2 being exhaled. In connection to the lab investigation this would speed up the rate of reactions as there would be a much higher concentration of CO2 being exhaled compared to when the body is at rest. As a result this would increase the amount of product being produced because of the increase of CO2 in the reaction. Due to which the lab experiment would occur at a higher rate and it would be faster as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

God had told Abraham to not only circumcise himself, but his children, his slaves, and any males in his household as well. This was a practice that was to be done from generation to generation. In early history during BCE, this was used as a way to separate the Israelites from the Philistines. Years earlier, there wasn t much difference between the Israelite community and its neighboring people. But with the arrival of the Philistines changed how they identified themselves as a separate group of people. As time progresses, so do the opinions when it comes to circumcision. There was a huge threat to the Jewish tradition due to the efforts of Jews to cover their marks of circumcision. Assimilation into the communities that Jews lived in was a common challenge. Keeping with tradition when living in a community that wasn t always accepting, was difficult. Especially when it was sometimes punished greatly. Because circumcision was strongly associated with Judaism, many Jews would try to remove the marks of this ritual off of their bodies. Traditional definitions of language have often categorised creative activity in the canonical literary uses we see in artistic works. However, contemporary definitions no longer confine creativity with language to the work of the novelist or poet. It is a well argued point that the seeds of such literary language reside in what may be described, as the mundane, practical uses of everyday talk and writing. This shift in opinion and approach to language study may be largely attributed to the work of Mikhail Bakhtin, who developed a social theory of language. (2006) Bakhtin would argue that it is exactly this responsive and addressive, dialogic nature of interaction and communication that stimulates creativity in language use, affecting the form and meaning on all levels. (2006) With this in mind, it may seem surprising that this can also be exemplified in what is ordinarily considered to be the very private activity of keeping a diary or journal. Many diaries draw considerably on literary uses of language, such as parallelism, metaphor, rhythm and imagery. Janet Maybin (2006) explains that this use of language may help to express strong emotions in a way that more prosaic language could not communicate as effectively. A modern day American version of this poem would also include a diverse group of people. The nobility in The Canterbury Tales is represented by the knight, which Chaucer describes as loving, trouthe and honour, freedom and curteisye (46). The parson s involvement in society can be mirrored by not only modern day preachers and church leaders, but by teachers as well. Teachers take the knowledge from their education and convey this wisdom onto students, much like the parson.
