As a proud Texas native, I want to discuss the San Jacinto Monument. It is built in the location of
where the final battler was fought for Texas to gain independence from Mexico. Without this battle,
the course of history and Texas would have been extremely different. The importance of this
monument is overlooked by people that are not from Texas.
The San Jacinto Monument is located in La Porte, Texas just west of Houston. The monument is
roughly 570 feet tall, and at the top of this massive monument is a 220 ton star. The Washington
Monument is roughly 554 feet tall. That makes the San Jacinto Monument almost 20 feet taller than
the Washington Monument. It took 3 years for the monument to be fully constructed and completed
before being dedicated on April 21, 1939. The star is a massive 34 feet tall, as a symbol of something
that Texas has always been known as The Lone Star State . The monument is only 78 years old,
making it still a fairly young Texas Monument.
The monument was designed by both Alfred C. Finn and Robert J. Cummins and cost about 1.5

these algorithms not concentrate on the structure of database. The proposed technique includes
transposition of database with further enhancement in this particular transposition technique. This
approach will reduce the total scans over the database and then time consumed to generate the
association rules will be less.

Griet Religion
In her novel Girl With a Pearl Earring, Tracy Chevalier constructs the story of Griet, the imagined
subject of Vermeer s famous painting. In doing so, she sheds light on the culture of 17th century
Holland, particularly the tensions and differences between the communities of two Christian sects.
Born into a Protestant family, Griet is forced to work as a maid when her father cannot support the
family. The artist Vermeer becomes her master, and she must learn to navigate his Catholic household.
As Griet reacts to the new culture she has been thrust into, many historical references to 1660s Dutch
society can be found. In her novel, Chevalier emphasizes the significance of religious differences
between Griet and the family she works for and examines the use of imagery within Catholicism by

with them on their day of devotion. Griet s mother expresses similar feelings when she lectures her

material possessions over anything substantial. Tracy Chevalier reveals Holland s history when she
writes that [Catholics] were tolerated in Delft, but were expected not to parade their faith openly (13).

Chaucer s Canterbury Tales: The General Prologue portrays the newly formed social division in
Medieval England by having people from the noble, gentry, church, and working social groups come
together on a journey to the Canterbury Chapel. A modern day American version of this poem would
also include a diverse group of people. The nobility in The Canterbury Tales is represented by the
knight, which Chaucer describes as loving, trouthe and honour, freedom and curteisye (46). Since the

During the fourteenth century, the control of the church weakened, and the church officials were no
longer seen as nobility. Despite being poor, the parson in The Canterbury Tales displayed a
hardworking and caring demeanor. Chaucer further explains the parson s character by mentioning, that
first he wroughte, and afterward he taught (499). The parson s involvement in society can be mirrored
by not only modern day preachers and church leaders, but by teachers as well. Teachers take the
knowledge from their education and convey this wisdom onto students, much like the parson. The
qualities of today s working class can be seen through Chaucer s depiction of the plowman. Indicating
the importance and humility of the plowman s work, Chaucer establishes his significance in society.
Our farmers, factory workers, and construction workers show the same persistent work ethic as the
plowman, which exemplifies that they are the foundation of the American society. Where class and
social status does not determine acceptability, the Canterbury Chapel is common ground for all the

WNBA vs. NBA Basketball is one of the most popular sports played and watched nationwide and
global. Shooting, dribbling, crossing someone up, and even dunking has caught the eye of many
people around the world. Many basketball players start at young age playing at a local recreation or

The university I attend will be one that successfully challenges my academic skills while also

I am currently a member of clubs such as HOSA, Care Club, National Honor Society, Amnesty, and
Humane Society. In each of these clubs, I contribute to a cause that positively affects the community
in some way. I have participated in various fundraisers and donations that help various diseases such
