Corporate Social Responsibility On Business And Consumerism
Steve Pollak says that responsible business refers to the practice of conducting business with
consideration for ethical, environmental and community goals in addition to being a good employer
and attempting to make a profit (Pollak, 2010). This essay will be discussing what is meant by the
term Responsible business and what it encompasses. Looking into drivers that affect business and
consumerism, they will be explained through looking at how it has developed over time and looking at
where it is now in relation to business. Considering the different acts and legislation that the
government has put in place, further discussion will continue into how consumerism and government
affect business. Estimations about the future of business and consumerism will be discussed in detail.
For this essay a broad range of literature and websites have been used to gain relevant facts and
information about this topic.
Responsible Business is known to cover a range of issues such as Corporate Social Responsibility
(CSR), Sustainability, and Corporate Citizenship. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is defined as
the obligations of business to pursue those policies, to make those decisions or to follow those lines of
action which are desirable in terms of the objectives and values of our society (Bowen, 1953), as
quoted by (Smith, 2011). Bowen explains that CSR means businesses taking action towards doing
things society wants and needs and accounting for the needs of the people.

The Death Of Socrates And Jesus
Socrates and Jesus were two teachers whose guidance people still follow today. They were both
sentenced to death for their teachings even though there were witnesses to their innocence. Socrates
was accused of corrupting the youth and practicing atheism by three men, Lytus, Anytus, and Meletus.
Plato, Socrates student, recorded Socrates defense speech. Socrates succeeded in getting some of the
jury to see the truth, but in the end, he was sentenced to the death penalty. The Gospel of Luke is a
section in the New Testament that reveals the Lord Jesus Christ and all he taught until he was killed.
Jesus teachings and preaching are brought out as he healed the wounded and sick, and brought hope to
the desperate. Jesus was also sentenced to death, but death did not keep him from teaching and after
three days he resurrected and continued to teach. These men both died for truth and accepted their
punishments. Socrates and Jesus have some similarities in their teachings and experiences, but Jesus
focused more on shaping others and taught the Christian life , while Socrates shaped his students by
teaching them how to take a different path than what the majority follows.
Jesus and Socrates both focused on teaching what was true to their people. Socrates spoke about truth
as being a person who knows they are not wise and do not know all. Socrates went around revealing
the truth, and the truth was just not what the men of Athens wanted to hear. He states his teachings

Keeping The Driving Age Essay
Driving is a daily activity to those of age and to some, it is a basic necessity to their lives. When
turning 16 years old is when most people begin driving, but keeping the driving age at 16 causes
accidents and deaths, rather than raising the driving age and making the road a safer place. If a parent
had a choice between their child dying or having an inconvenience of driving them around, hopefully,
they would choose having an inconvenience. Imagine a teen is driving with other underage teens in
the car 20 to 30 miles per hour over the speed limit.
Teenage brain development is at a vulnerable state and is not fully developed causing poor judgment
and bad decisions. New findings from brain researchers at the National Institutes of Health explain
that the part of the teenage brain called the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex is the part that weighs risks,
makes judgments, and controls impulsive behavior (Davis). This part of the brain causes the reckless
teen driver s actions and accidents. The National Institutes of Health have analyzed 4,000 brain scans
from 2,000 to document how brains evolve as children mature and has shown ... Show more content

Parents have had to drive their children around since their kids were born, taking them to school,
sports, and extracurricular activities. Parents are tired of constantly having to chauffeur their kids
around (Davis). Now that their teens are old enough to drive, the 16 year can run errands for the
parents. However, what is more important to the parents, the inconvenience of them having to drive
their teens everywhere or their child s safety? To most parents, their children s safety is the number
one priority and many do not realize the risks of teen driving. For example, Kathy Schaefer and
Melissa Herberz, mothers of two crash victims had no idea of the odds of their only daughters were

I Am A College Student
I m a college student on a typical college student s budget, and I moved into my apartment about a
year ago. Let me tell you this, I just now decorated my room. Yes, I spent an entire year staring at
stark white walls, with nothing but last years calendar and my celebrity crush of the moment hanging
o the wall beside my bed. There s nothing inviting about an undecorated room, in fact it s sort of
depressing, and I wouldn t recommend it to anyone. No matter what your budget, decorating is
important and can be done. Here s how I gave my room a personal touch for less than $100. Like most
people the first thing I thought of to decorate my walls with were pictures. Little did I know how
expensive pictures could be. I first looked for framed pictures at discount retailers like Target, figuring
I could get a good deal. Wrong. Even their smaller pictures cost about $30, and while that isn t really
expensive, it was just a tad bit more than I wanted to spend on one item. I did come across a rather
small rectangular picture for $10 in the sale bin at Rite Aid, and a matching pillar candle for the same
price at Kmart, but those items ended up in my bathroom so they don t count towards the total for my
room. The point is, however, that we can t discriminate against those really cheap shops. To find good
pictures for a really low price I recommend going to unexpected places, such as Rite Aid. Believe it or
not, you might just find one or two items you like. If all else fails,

Social Structures Of Western Society Essay
A Ratty Western World
When searching for rats on the internet; pests control services, campaigns of eradicating rodents,
media reports on rat infestation and diseases, outnumbers the various other search results. This
widespread negative image of the rat, according to Edelman (2002), can be traced back historically in
the Western world. However, after rat sporting became prohibited by English law in 1870s, the
Western culture began to interact with the animal differently (Edelman 2002).By the end of the
nineteenth century, the rat was classified in Western contexts as: detestable pest, a lovable pet, and
laboratory subjects (Edelman 2002). In this essay, I aim to show their cultural meaning and social
structures to Western society, by analysing the human rat relations and classifications in the Western
world. In the West, the diverse contexts we encounter and interact with the rats have transformed their
cultural meanings and social structures in our society. Rats as detestable pests
Historically, rats have been viewed as disgusting, categorised as detestable pests and associated with
negative images in Western contexts. Edelman (2002) reveals how westerners tend to despise and
demonise rats with examples of from the media, such as films and advertisements which act as
enhancers of disgust. Consequently, the rat has become a symbol of dirt, disease and evil aggression
(Edelman 2002:6). This presents a cultural understanding in Western societies of cleanliness and

College Sports Essay
Pay Up
The world of sports has grown larger than life over the past century, especially in college. Being a
collegiate athlete is, without question, the hardest athletic profession in the world. Not only are
students devoted to their sport, which requires an obscene amount of time of preparation, but they are
also devoted to their school work. And the award they receive for their hard work? Of course there are
the great memories, friendships made, free education , or national championships, but are theses
students receiving their fair share? Should college athletes be paid? It is a question that has been
asked, but never truly answered. College athletes should be paid for their work. I even have the perfect
system to see ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The only day off is Sunday. This seems a little far fetched for being college students. Oh, I forgot to
mention the pay; $0. Student athletes have a more demanding job, mentally and physically, yet they
have little to show for it.
This isn t an argument that proposes colligate athletes should be paid just because they work hard. The
reasoning extends far beyond their work ethics. First of all, colligate athletics is a billion dollar
industry. On average, 44,367 fans attend a college football game. Imagine that a university such as
Ohio State holds 7 games at Ohio Stadium as it did in 2003. 105.000+ fans can occupy Ohio Stadium
at one time. At the least, one may find a ticket for $50, if they are lucky. During one Ohio State
football game, at least $5.25 million will be made. This is just one source of revenue the university
receives. Not to mention, merchandise, concessions, and BSC appearances. All are major contributors
to the lucrative business of college athletics.
From the millions of dollars generated from ticket sales to the millions of dollars generated from
major tournament bids, colligate athletes don t receive any of this money, which is ironic considering
the fact that they are the reason that most of this money is being made. Why shouldn t they be
rewarded with a share of the billion dollar a year industry that they are so much a part of? Why

Twelfth Night Character Analysis Essay
A grieving noble soon forgets about her family s death when a new man arrives in her life. She is
Olivia, the receiver of Duke Orsino s affection, and yet pines for someone else. To add more onto the
problem that someone else pines for Orsino. In Shakespeare s comedy Twelfth Night, the character
Olivia changes from a solemn and melancholy countess to a passionate woman as a result of meeting

In the beginning of the story, Olivia is shown as extremely depressed as a result of the death of her

Revolutionary War Revolutionary Essay
By defining a revolution as a radical change of conditions , the Revolutionary War was unquestionably
a revolution. In determining whether the Revolutionary War was revolutionary or not, one must assess
the extent to which society transformed before, throughout, and after the war. Although some colonists
sought to preserve the rights they enjoyed from tradition and custom, the Revolutionary War can be
described as revolutionary because men put their life as well as their honor on the line to fight in a war
when triumph seemed an unreachable goal. This was done to make radical changes such as
formulating an entirely new system of government instead of creating a monarchy, as they had known.
In the First Continental Congress, which occurred ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When people are over three thousand miles away from each other, representation can be difficult.
When America first separated itself from Britain, the founding fathers attempted to create the least
amount of similarities as possible. The need to be different from Britain was shown primarily through
the creation of the Articles of Confederation as they represented a strong reaction against the strong
central government of Britain. The Continental Congress adopted the Articles on November 15, 1777
and they served as the United States first Constitution. There were many problems that came with the
Articles. The government they created was so weak that tasks could not be completed efficiently.
Because of the weak government, America could not grow economically which led to political
uncertainty. The government had no power to enforce any legislation it passed and congress was
denied the power to tax. Money was one of the greatest issues with the Articles of Confederation.
Since the government was denied the right to tax, they could only request money from the states and
these requests were often denied. The legislature never had enough money to run the government or to
fulfill financial obligations to bondholders, soldiers, and

Asphalt shingles are very affordable, versatile, come in a wide variety of colors and are relatively
simple to install, resulting in less labor and lower installation costs. Asphalt shingles also come in two
main varieties: organic and fiberglass. Organic shingles are environmentally friendly and more tear
resistant, while the more common fiberglass shingles offer greater fire protection and improved
resistance to heat and sun exposure.
Signs of Failing Shingles
While there s no substitute for a professional inspection, it s not difficult to spot the need for shingle
replacement. Shingles that must be replaced often appear to be cracked, torn or buckled. In some
cases, they may even be missing entirely. Additionally, shingles begin to shed their granules as they
reach the end of their effective lifespan. They may take on a lighter, bald appearance, and you ll likely
find granules built up in gutters and near downspouts. Finally, even if your roof has not yet begun to
show these signs, it may be time to consider replacement if your roof is older than about 20 years.

Uxt Task 1 Essay
I chose to study and analyze J.M.W. Turner s Slave Ship for this project and found it to be very
interesting. Immediately while looking at the piece you get a strong sense of emotion and drama that
is being portrayed. There is a lot of depth and warmth in the colors that are used and wide swift brush
strokes to create the images. The first image that caught my eye was of waves crashing on the left side
of the painting. The white tips of the waves are very noticeable against the softer shades of the ocean.
Behind the waves is a ship which is the next part of the painting that drew my attention. The ship
seems to be caught in the rough waves of the sea and barely able to keep afloat. There is a glimmer of
light from the sun peeking through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Turner it is a lot clearer as to why he depicted such an emotional and vivid work of art in Slave Ship.
Turner was inspired to paint this piece after reading The History and Abolition of the Slave Trade by
Thomas Clarkson. In 1781, the captain of the slave ship Zong had ordered 133 slaves to be thrown
overboard so that insurance payments could be collected. This event probably inspired Turner to
create this artwork. Turner became an advocate for abolishing slavery around the world and even
exhibited this painting during an anti slavery conference (History in an Hour).
Common themes that were seen in the Romantic era, which spanned from the end of the eighteenth
century to the beginning of the nineteenth century, were naturalism, Gothicism, emotionalism, and
exoticism. Salve Ship definitely portrays some, if not all, of these themes. The most obvious used
theme would be emotion. Turner is clearly trying to get an emotional response out of his audience
with such a dark and dramatic subject matter in this piece or art. It would be very hard not to have
high emotions when looking at it. Work of art from the Romantic time period shares many similarities
with work that is seen in the modern world and today s audience can relate greatly to art from that
time. There is a strong sense of emotion and erotic response in art in the modern age and people react
strongly to that. Art from romanticism brings out the same emotion and response.

A Critical Analysis Of Jackson Pollock And Steve Jobs
All individuals living within a community, are constantly being influenced by others while they
develop their personalities, habits, and morals. Some people are naturally inclined to follow and others
are confident enough in their own thinking to lead. A leader must think for themselves, allowing their
uniqueness to translate into creative solutions. An individual s decision to follow an unpopular path
will always be either applauded or scrutinized by others, which can be discouraging. It is important for
individuals to both listen to what others have to say about their work, while also remaining confident
in their abilities. Trailblazers like Jackson Pollock and Steve Jobs show that in order for an individual
to successfully take their own path in life and perpetuate it, they must find their calling, be confident
in their abilities, and listen to other s critiques without allowing themselves to become filled with
pressure or self doubt. Jackson Pollock succeeded in developing a new artistic technique to depict the
world by accepting culture s initial reactions understandingly and remaining confident in himself.
Pollock broadly describes the origin of his use of abstract expressionism in a 1949 interview with
William Wright. He explains how he practiced many of the great historical art techniques in school,
but felt that the modern painter cannot express this age, the airplane, the atom bomb, the radio, in the
old forms of the Renaissance or of any other past culture

which they grew up, the hardships they have faced since leaving home including the difficulty of
sticking with a job for more than six months, and how they survive making minute annual incomes.

What I enjoyed when reading the book was that there were multiple different types of people that
Shipler interviewed. For example, they were not all drug addicts; some people mentioned in the book
were victims of abuse, some were cursed since birth growing up in low income families, and some
were discriminated against for their appearances. I think this is important to show when talking about
the poor class because many people stereotype the poor believing that they all did not go to college
and became addicted to drugs. Caroline Payne went to college and got her Associates degree, however
she never landed a job in her field of training...the associate s degree proved useless as a credential

Golden Age Of Piracy Research Paper
Pirate Essay
Pirates to most people resemble an iconic stereotype. This is that hollywood image that depicts pirates
wearing eyepatches, walking with wooden legs, and out in the sea searching for treasure. Although
some of these aspects resemble a Pirate the history of Pirates and Piracy in the sea is quite interesting.
Piracy in the sea dates back long ago around the 2nd century BC. According to the website Famous
Pirates the authors state that Piracy came into existence shortly after the creation of first organized
naval trading. This would make sense since these merchant ships would carry valuable goods around
unprotected. Meaning that eventually somebody would figure out that it s possible to raid these ships
and loot all of the the valuables. Piracy carried on for several centuries, seeing activity in the
Mediterranean, and even in Southeast Asia. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

powers such as the English, the French, and the Dutch also wanted apart of this treasure. The English,
French, and Dutch decided to hire Privateers to attack the Spanish Merchant Ships ultimately trying to

that Pirates were also given legal status . . . privateers were used in the Caribbean by rival nations to

The United Nations Report Nepal
Nepal
By: Blake Murray
Grade 7
Draft
For this United Nations report Nepal was selected. It was selected because it is a beautiful country and
for some of its famous points of interest. Nepal s relative location is between India and China. It is in
both the northern and eastern hemispheres. And the absolute location is 28 00 degrees north and 84 00
degrees east. Nepal is only boarded by India and China and is completed landlocked; no coastline.
Because it is located between India and China, the majority of the population is Indian and Chinese.
Nepal has a population of around thirty one million, which is small compared to the countries
boarding it.
The topography on half of the county is hills and plains and the other half is mountainous.
In the south Nepal has flat plains and hills. In the northern region, it is mountainous; covered by the
Himalaya s mountain range.
Nepal is a very popular tourist area. Some points of interest include; Mount Everest, Gokyo Lake,
Temple, and the Thamel. Mount Everest is the highest point on earth above sea level. Gokyo Lake is
at the base of Mount Everest. The Thamel is located in the capital and has been the center of the
tourist industry. It is narrow alleys with crowded shops and vendors that sell their goods, such as:
food, fresh vegetables/fruits, walking gear, pastries, trekking gear, music, DVDs, handicrafts,
souvenirs and more. These are only a few of the great sights you can visit in Nepal.

Theory and its Relevance to Research
Theory is based off of an idea or a thought. It is composed of carefully collected data, and several
hypothetical tests or experiments. Creswell, (2009) , theory differs from a hypothesis in that it is a set
of scientific method, a process of asking and answering questions based on experiments. A theory not
only explains proven facts; it also allows researchers to make predictions based on what they observe
if a theory is proven or said to be true ( Laureate Education Inc., 2009).
When conducting research, a researcher may choose to the three different methodologies that include
quantitative, qualitative, and mixed research methods to analyze the data collected. These three
methodologies all have differing ways of reaching a conclusion in a research study. For example,
Quantitative research uses deductive or confirmatory scientific method; it is used primarily as a source
of description, explanation, and as a way to predict an outcome. Quantitative research was built on the
basis of quantitative data, used almost always as the analysis of variables. The results of these kinds of
theories relies mostly on measurements, are statistically driven and the goal is to generalize the results
of the study.
Researchers studying The Health Belief Model (HBM) and Theory of Planned Action (TRA) might

The service that I emphasize in this advertisement is dining. In figure 1, the waiter is serving the lady
with charming smile and the lady who is the customer also smiles happily. I chose this type of image
because I would like to tell our target audience that we respect our guests and provide them the best
service. It also shows that our staffs are friendly and we always welcome our guests with open arms.
In figure 2, I have chosen a chef who holding a plate of dishes. His smile on face shows that he is very
enthusiastic in his career. Besides, I would like to convey the message about chefs in Shangri La are
professional and we are confident enough to provide our guests the best dining experience and
delicacies. Moreover, I used wine purple and white colour for the body of the bus because this two
colours create a contrast. Wine purple is also associated luxury and royalty (Bourn, n.d.). Therefore,
this can show the status of our brand as we are one of the best 5 star hotel in Kuala Lumpur. In short,
the overall of both advertisements are very simple and not

Glycogen Storage Disease Type 1 Essay
Ever heard of the term Glycogen Storage Disease Type 1? Well if you haven t that s okay because it s
not common. This is a disease that only 1 in 100,000 individuals have.
Glycogen Storage Disease type 1, also known as GSD1 is an inherited genetic disorder that effects the
way the body breaks down food into energy to keep blood sugar stable when a person is not eating.
This happens when there is a missing or damaged enzyme. Not having this enzyme can be quiet
dangerous. It leads to low blood sugar levels within a couple of hours, also know as Hypoglycemia.
The symptoms for hypoglycemia are clumsiness, trouble speaking, loss of consciousness,
hallucinations and seizures. Signs of low blood sugar levels, greatly enlarged liver, swollen belly due
to the liver, and abnormal amounts of glycogen in the liver may indicate they have GSD1. The
diagnosis usually occurs between the age of 3 and 10 months when babies sleep trough the night and
do not eat as often as newborns. Testing will most likely include blood tests, ultra sounds to measure
the liver and kidneys, and possibly a genetic test ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It brings you more responsibilities as a family and will have to care for the love one at times you
would rather be sleeping. The diagnosis isn t an easy task since its so rare. You d would most likely
spend a couple days maybe a week at a hospital until the doctors know what s going on. Already
having kids at the time can make the experience that much harder. Especially when your hospital is
hours away. Having to bring your other kids along could be very expensive since they are not allowed
to stay in the hospital; and leaving them behind with a close family friend could be a little scary and
you may feel like a bad parent. In this types of situations the family needs to work as team and talk
about how they feel so they won t feel alone or stressed out. Always have a way to cope with your

Organizational Structure and Culture
Organizational Structure and Culture
Introduction
In this week s assignment we will be looking at organizational structure and organizational culture. We
will first look at how organizational culture impacts organizational structure and vice versa. Then look
at how organizational structure interacts and impacts the organization s decision process.
Organizational Cultures Impact on Organizational Structure The first part of this week s assignment
was to look at how organizational structure impacts organizational culture and vice versa. But before
we look at that let us review what organizational structure and culture are. Organizational culture as
defined from the text is the shared values, principles, traditions, and ways of doing things that
influence the way organizational members set (Robbins, Decenzo, Coulter, 2013). Also an
organization s culture usually reflects the vision or mission of the organization s founders (Robbins,
Decenzo, Coulter, 2013). Organizational structure is a hierarchical arrangement of lines of authority,
communication, rights and duties of an organization (BusinessDictionary.com, 2013). Organizational
structure determines how the roles, power and responsibilities are assigned, controlled, and
coordinated, and how information flows between different levels of management
(BusinessDictionary.com, 2013). Now with a review of what organizational structure and culture are
let us look how they impact each other. There are many examples of structure

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Government System
In the modern day, many societies are beginning to change and mould around modern beliefs and
customs, leading to a range of ways to distribute power in society. Each one has it s own merits and
demerits, though the disadvantages are more prominent than others. I will focus on three of the most
interesting examples of governmental systems; an extreme right wing Anarchy; a centralised one,
Monarchy; an extreme left wing, Autocracy. All of these have many different ways of power
distribution: Autocracy lays all the power on one person, Anarchy has no governmental structure and
Monarchy has a group of people leading the country; and each of these have many disadvantages.
Anarchy is a form of power distribution in which there is no governmental system. This system
consists of an absence of any governmental system and absolute freedom of an individual. In my
opinion, Anarchy is a precarious system as it is reliant on a person being truly good. In an anarchist ...

A monarchist system will run in the family will go from the oldest heir down the family. This means
that the monarchist system is like a closed circuit and the public have no choice in the matters of their
country. In other governmental systems there is almost always a way for the public to have a choice,
for example in autocracy, though the leader will make all the decisions the actual leader is often voted
for by the public. This means that a country with a monarchy in leadership would be reliant on the
monarchy to make all of the decisions and all of the right decisions. Another demerit of Monarchy, is
that the views of the reigning monarch would most likely be old fashioned as the rule of a king or
queen normally spans across two to four decades. Over the reign of a monarch many things can
change but if the monarch is brought up in a time in which these changes were non existent the ideal
in use would likely be

How Did The Enlightenment Influence Russian Government
Influences of the Enlightenment and Napoleonic France on Russia, Egypt and the Ottoman Empire
In the nineteenth century, leaders of Russia, Egypt and the Ottoman Empire looked to the seventeenth
and eighteenth century philosophies of the European Enlightenment and Napoleonic France as guides
for building a modern state. They emulated military strength and thriving academic and agricultural
institutions, as well as a direct relationship between the general population and national authority
figures. In Russia, Tsar Nicholas looked to the principle of democracy which pervaded the French
revolution, as it was characterized by a direct relationship between the government and its
constituents. In order to appeal to a Russian population that was moved by the prospect of democracy,

His was not the only nation adopting these qualities. In Egypt, Muhammad Ali used the convictions of
these periods as guiding principles in establishing a modern state, beginning with military reform. He
set about modernizing his army, before expanding the Enlightenment and Napoleonic influences
which manifested themselves in his country, to include investment in academia and agriculture. In
response to the Enlightenment s emphasis on free thought and reason, he built new schools for
medicine and engineering. Looking to compete with western European civilizations like Napoleonic
France, he invested in agriculture, developing irrigation systems and building dams. In the Ottoman
Empire, the Sultan Mahmud II also drew inspiration from the Enlightenment and Napoleonic France
on a strategic level, leveraging Western military techniques to recover the national dignity lost in
embarrassing defeats by European armies. His other Enlightenment inspired goal was to make the
Ottoman Empire a society that was hospitable to all religious practices. In seeking to implement his
plans, he was forced to pander to the Muslim population, and local wealthy

First-Wave Communism Vs. Second-Wave Feminism
Although the first two waves of feminism in the United States, the first from 1848 to the 1920s and
the second from the 1960s to the 1980s, had similar causes, the other influences in society and politics
at the time gave the two women s movements different motives, leading to different effects and
accomplishments from each wave. Simply put, first wave feminism and second wave feminism have
similar causes but differ based on their motives and effects. According to several sources, including
Robinson1, Stanton2, Zinn6, and a mathematical analysis of the causes of social movements by
several professors9, first wave feminism was caused by women being introduced to the workforce
with the Industrial Revolution, and the effects of World War I. Similarly,

Borderline Personality Theory
Application of Contemporary Cognitive Behavioral Theory to Borderline Personality Disorder
Student Name

Introduction
Borderline Personality Disorder is a major mental condition that affects the ability of a person to
manage emotions effectively. Borderline personality disorder (BPD) usually starts in early adulthood
or adolescence. People suffering from BPD may appear to be leading normal lives, but in the real
sense have troublesome private lives. People with the BPD condition suffer from problems that
regulate their thoughts and emotions (Lawson, 2000). They also have reckless and impulsive behavior
that makes it hard for them to maintain stable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A study on the neurobiology of borderline personality disorder requires reviewing the anatomical
structures as well as epigenetic and genetic factors contributing to the pathophysiology of the disorder.
Studies concerning the neurobiology of BPD have focused on direct visualization of the structure and
functioning of the brain using neuroimaging (Buchheim et al. 2006). A meta analysis of the volume of
the brain shows that a person with borderline personality disorder has a reduced volume of right
hippocampus gray and left amygdala. A meta analysis of fMRI (functional MRI) shows that people
with the disorder have heightened activation in the left hippocampus, left amygdala, and posterior
cingulate cortex when the brain processes negative emotional stimuli (Meares, 2012). When the brain
is processing negative emotional stimuli, some parts of the brain such as the dorsal lateral prefrontal
cortex have diminished activation. A meta analysis of MRI shows that the insula has heightened
activity while the subgenual anterior cingulate cortex has less activation in people with the borderline
personality disorder (Buchheim et al.

Life Of Brian
The film Hail Mary tells the story of the virgin birth. It is told from a modern setting where Mary
works at a gas station owned by her father and Joseph is a taxi driver. Life of Brian built its story on a
satirical parallel of the life of Jesus Christ; he is born the same day as the messiah and therefore gets
mistaken for being him. While both of these films have religious meanings behind them, they in no
way aim to be disrespectful, make fun or take away from the biblical stories. In Life of Brian his life
was parallel to the life of Jesus. Many perceived this as an attack on religion but what the movie tried
to convey and what the members of Monty Python tried to make clear was that Brian was in no means
Jesus. The film opens with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is doing so in a non traditional way because the story is told from a modern perspective. While
Life of Brian is more of a comedy, this film is more serious. It does not mock the Virgin Mary, but
instead it makes us the viewers see this story in a different light. Growing up in a household that I
would consider to be very religious, I never truly thought about the Virgin Mary. It was just a given
that she gave birth to Jesus and joseph and her raised him. What Godard did with this film was to
make us see that it is not as black and white as we always thought it to be. I liked that this film shows
it in modern times because we are able to connect with it more and analyze in different ways. We
never ever think about what Mary may have gone through and how she may have received the
information that she was chosen to conceive Jesus. We don t think about Joseph and what could
possible be going through his mind and being accepting of such situation. Godard in away makes us
see this very well known story in a different light. The film contains nudity, which can be perceived as
disrespectful, but he does in such a way that it adds to the movie not in a sexual way. Marie s nude
body in a scene of the film tossing and turning painfully in bed, is less fetishized than aestheticized as
the earthly representation of an aching soul s trajectory toward enlightenment.

Leif Enger’s Peace Like a River Essay
Leif Enger s Peace Like a River
Life can be viewed as a battle field, a constant fight between good and evil. In Leif Enger s Peace Like
a River, this scenario was well depicted. In the novel, there was a constant fight taking place between
the good and evil characters, and though based around family, love, and brotherhood, the novel mainly
focused on the conflict between these characters.
This student felt that it was fair to classify the Lands along with Roxanna Cowley, The Shultzs and Dr.
Nokes as the good characters. This was a fair classification as these characters maintained their
positive personas throughout the novel. On the other hand, Superintendent Holgren, Israel Finch,
Tommy Busca, and Jape Waltzer can be classified ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the two murders Superintendent Holgren began to treat Jeremiah differently, as he allowed his
opinion to determine whether or not Jeremiah deserved the job. Holgren made work even more
difficult and disagreed with everything that Jeremiah did. Jeremiah, being the calm person that he was,
never retaliated with negative words. He allowed Holgren to mistreat him, even in front of the staff
and students in the school. Holgren finally resorted to firing Jeremiah in front of everyone, but
Jeremiah simply touched his face and walked away.
The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing (Budha).
Jeremiah did nothing but simply left things in God s hands. He allowed Holgren to make a fool out of
himself and surprisingly, he healed Holgren s face from those unsightly sores.
Once again good triumphed over evil. This student felt that Jeremiah maintained his composure and
acted just as he should.
The best way to deal with situations is to walk away and Jeremiah proved to have such discipline.
The Lands faced a lot of negativity from persons who were once considered family friends. It must
have been difficult for the Lands as they were viewed negatively because of Davy s actions. Although
many persons betrayed them, the Lands could still count on a few old friends. The Shultzs and Dr.
Nokes continued to support them even if they did not agree with Davy s actions.

Rfid, An Automated Identification And Data Collection (...
Radio Frequency Identification, or as it is more commonly known, RFID, is an automated
identification and data collection (AIDC) technology. From access cards to passports to toll tags RFID
has now become ubiquitous as an integral part of our daily lives.
RFID is a small electronic device that consist of a small chip and an antenna. The chip typically is
capable of carrying 2,000 bytes of data or less. RFID technology has been available for more than fifty
years. It has only been recently that the ability to manufacture the RFID devices has fallen to the point
where they can be used as a throwaway inventory or control device.
It s been a decade since Wal Mart told its top suppliers that the world s largest retailer would charge a
fee for each pallet of goods they shipped without a radio frequency identification tag to the giant Sam
s Club distribution center in Texas. The bold initiative came at a time when many technology pundits
were touting the long term benefits RFID would provide, not just to Wal Mart but also to its suppliers.
Much like e commerce, hailed during the late 1990s as the death knell of brick and mortar retailing,
RFID systems were oversold as essential and inevitable, despite much corporate resistance.
The hype cycle about RFID climaxed a few years later when it became clear the technology was too
costly and difficult to implement. A decade later, the hype has gone with the wind, but item level
RFID technology is playing a much more important role

Identity is a very important part of being Australian; it is a feeling of being associated with a national
group, defined by a common heritage, which may be based on many attributes, including race,
territory, language and history. The Men of the Open Spaces , written be Will H. Ogilvie addresses
these issues of Australian identity, constructing a powerful representation of the Australian bush

of national ideology. The text focuses on a very traditional concept of nationhood and constructs a

Religious Hypocrisy In A Good Man Is Hard To Find
Research shows that several Flannery O Connor critics claim that her work A Good Man is Hard to
Find does not parallel her devout Catholic faith, but rather replicate the ideologies of atheism and even
go as far as to showcase religious hypocrisy. As Edwin Curley once quoted O Connor is often labelled
as a Catholic writer, but there is nothing peculiarly Catholic, or even Christian about her dark view of
human nature (Curley 31). This particular statement helps reaffirm the belief that O Connor
demonstrates an atheist viewpoint and simultaneously contradicts her religious piety. However, O
Connor subconsciously believes and demonstrates through her work that the Grandmother and the
Misfit s final fate is to be redeemed by an epiphany of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, Edwin Curley displays the argument that O Connor s work is not a religious story.
Rather than dissecting the various elements that O Connor utilizes to intertwine human nature with
religion, Curley examines her writing and automatically claims that her work had nothing particularly
Catholic, or even Christian on O Connor s work. Instead of studying how she might have related her
pessimistic view of mankind to her religion, Curley relates her work to Machiavelli s The Prince and
Thomas Hobbes Social Contract, two works symbolize human wickedness and lack of morality.
Additionally, Stanley Renner s Secular Meaning in A Good Man Is Hard to Find display similar
attitudes regarding the story and religious motives. Instead of showcasing O Connor s the religious
motives mentioned above, Renner looks directly at the secular interpretations of the story. For
example, Renner argues that the Grandmother s love for Jesus only stirred the murderer s homicidal
rage (Renner 124), implying that the Misfit merely possessed atheist viewpoints instead of diving into
the greater meaning of the story by how religion played a role in A Good Man Is Hard to Find.
Furthermore, Douglas Leonard expresses that O Connor realizes the flimsiness of her old form of
Christianity: her religion has consisted of nothing more than platitudes which she manipulated to suit
her own purposes and with which she

How Did Alexander Graham Bell Contribute To The Discovery...
Alexander Graham Bell was born on March 3rd, 1847. He was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. He went
to Edinburgh Royal High School when he was eleven years old. Bell had left school when he was
fifteen, he never actually graduated. He also attended the University of London for college but his
time in college was cut short due to him and his family moving to Canada in the 1870s also causing
him to not fully graduate from college as well. They left to Canada because they had lost two children
to tuberculosis already. They thought that the only way they could keep Bell from getting tuberculosis

Graham Bell had found a way to send a simple current. He had received a patent for the invention on
March 7th, 1876. Five days after he had found a way to send a simple current through a piece of wire
he had actually found a way to send actual speech. He had talked through a telephone speaking to his
assistance, Thomas A. Watson, in another room. That was the time the now famous words Mr. Watson,

patent for the telephone. Bell gets a lot of the credit for inventing the telephone but there are also a
bunch of other people that contributed to the process of inventing it. Graham Bell was the first to
patent the invention of the telephone though. It as a very confusing thing to deal with. It was a
confusing collection of counterclaims and claims. It was made even more confusing with the lawsuit
trying to resolve the patent claims of many individuals. Bell s grandfather, father, and his brother had
all been associated with work on speech and elocution. Both his wife and his mother were deaf.
Therefore, Graham Bell was engaged in teaching teachers how to instruct deaf people that didn t know
how to talk how to speak, as well as experimenting with Leon Scott photography in recording the

  • 5. The Death Of Socrates And Jesus Socrates and Jesus were two teachers whose guidance people still follow today. They were both sentenced to death for their teachings even though there were witnesses to their innocence. Socrates was accused of corrupting the youth and practicing atheism by three men, Lytus, Anytus, and Meletus. Plato, Socrates student, recorded Socrates defense speech. Socrates succeeded in getting some of the jury to see the truth, but in the end, he was sentenced to the death penalty. The Gospel of Luke is a section in the New Testament that reveals the Lord Jesus Christ and all he taught until he was killed. Jesus teachings and preaching are brought out as he healed the wounded and sick, and brought hope to the desperate. Jesus was also sentenced to death, but death did not keep him from teaching and after three days he resurrected and continued to teach. These men both died for truth and accepted their punishments. Socrates and Jesus have some similarities in their teachings and experiences, but Jesus focused more on shaping others and taught the Christian life , while Socrates shaped his students by teaching them how to take a different path than what the majority follows. Jesus and Socrates both focused on teaching what was true to their people. Socrates spoke about truth as being a person who knows they are not wise and do not know all. Socrates went around revealing the truth, and the truth was just not what the men of Athens wanted to hear. He states his teachings during the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Keeping The Driving Age Essay Driving is a daily activity to those of age and to some, it is a basic necessity to their lives. When turning 16 years old is when most people begin driving, but keeping the driving age at 16 causes accidents and deaths, rather than raising the driving age and making the road a safer place. If a parent had a choice between their child dying or having an inconvenience of driving them around, hopefully, they would choose having an inconvenience. Imagine a teen is driving with other underage teens in the car 20 to 30 miles per hour over the speed limit. Teenage brain development is at a vulnerable state and is not fully developed causing poor judgment and bad decisions. New findings from brain researchers at the National Institutes of Health explain that the part of the teenage brain called the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex is the part that weighs risks, makes judgments, and controls impulsive behavior (Davis). This part of the brain causes the reckless teen driver s actions and accidents. The National Institutes of Health have analyzed 4,000 brain scans from 2,000 to document how brains evolve as children mature and has shown ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Parents have had to drive their children around since their kids were born, taking them to school, sports, and extracurricular activities. Parents are tired of constantly having to chauffeur their kids around (Davis). Now that their teens are old enough to drive, the 16 year can run errands for the parents. However, what is more important to the parents, the inconvenience of them having to drive their teens everywhere or their child s safety? To most parents, their children s safety is the number one priority and many do not realize the risks of teen driving. For example, Kathy Schaefer and Melissa Herberz, mothers of two crash victims had no idea of the odds of their only daughters were facing the night they were killed ... • 7. I Am A College Student I m a college student on a typical college student s budget, and I moved into my apartment about a year ago. Let me tell you this, I just now decorated my room. Yes, I spent an entire year staring at stark white walls, with nothing but last years calendar and my celebrity crush of the moment hanging o the wall beside my bed. There s nothing inviting about an undecorated room, in fact it s sort of depressing, and I wouldn t recommend it to anyone. No matter what your budget, decorating is important and can be done. Here s how I gave my room a personal touch for less than $100. Like most people the first thing I thought of to decorate my walls with were pictures. Little did I know how expensive pictures could be. I first looked for framed pictures at discount retailers like Target, figuring I could get a good deal. Wrong. Even their smaller pictures cost about $30, and while that isn t really expensive, it was just a tad bit more than I wanted to spend on one item. I did come across a rather small rectangular picture for $10 in the sale bin at Rite Aid, and a matching pillar candle for the same price at Kmart, but those items ended up in my bathroom so they don t count towards the total for my room. The point is, however, that we can t discriminate against those really cheap shops. To find good pictures for a really low price I recommend going to unexpected places, such as Rite Aid. Believe it or not, you might just find one or two items you like. If all else fails, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Social Structures Of Western Society Essay A Ratty Western World When searching for rats on the internet; pests control services, campaigns of eradicating rodents, media reports on rat infestation and diseases, outnumbers the various other search results. This widespread negative image of the rat, according to Edelman (2002), can be traced back historically in the Western world. However, after rat sporting became prohibited by English law in 1870s, the Western culture began to interact with the animal differently (Edelman 2002).By the end of the nineteenth century, the rat was classified in Western contexts as: detestable pest, a lovable pet, and laboratory subjects (Edelman 2002). In this essay, I aim to show their cultural meaning and social structures to Western society, by analysing the human rat relations and classifications in the Western world. In the West, the diverse contexts we encounter and interact with the rats have transformed their cultural meanings and social structures in our society. Rats as detestable pests Historically, rats have been viewed as disgusting, categorised as detestable pests and associated with negative images in Western contexts. Edelman (2002) reveals how westerners tend to despise and demonise rats with examples of from the media, such as films and advertisements which act as enhancers of disgust. Consequently, the rat has become a symbol of dirt, disease and evil aggression (Edelman 2002:6). This presents a cultural understanding in Western societies of cleanliness and ... • 9. College Sports Essay Pay Up The world of sports has grown larger than life over the past century, especially in college. Being a collegiate athlete is, without question, the hardest athletic profession in the world. Not only are students devoted to their sport, which requires an obscene amount of time of preparation, but they are also devoted to their school work. And the award they receive for their hard work? Of course there are the great memories, friendships made, free education , or national championships, but are theses students receiving their fair share? Should college athletes be paid? It is a question that has been asked, but never truly answered. College athletes should be paid for their work. I even have the perfect system to see ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The only day off is Sunday. This seems a little far fetched for being college students. Oh, I forgot to mention the pay; $0. Student athletes have a more demanding job, mentally and physically, yet they have little to show for it. This isn t an argument that proposes colligate athletes should be paid just because they work hard. The reasoning extends far beyond their work ethics. First of all, colligate athletics is a billion dollar industry. On average, 44,367 fans attend a college football game. Imagine that a university such as Ohio State holds 7 games at Ohio Stadium as it did in 2003. 105.000+ fans can occupy Ohio Stadium at one time. At the least, one may find a ticket for $50, if they are lucky. During one Ohio State football game, at least $5.25 million will be made. This is just one source of revenue the university receives. Not to mention, merchandise, concessions, and BSC appearances. All are major contributors to the lucrative business of college athletics. From the millions of dollars generated from ticket sales to the millions of dollars generated from major tournament bids, colligate athletes don t receive any of this money, which is ironic considering the fact that they are the reason that most of this money is being made. Why shouldn t they be rewarded with a share of the billion dollar a year industry that they are so much a part of? Why ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Revolutionary War Revolutionary Essay By defining a revolution as a radical change of conditions , the Revolutionary War was unquestionably a revolution. In determining whether the Revolutionary War was revolutionary or not, one must assess the extent to which society transformed before, throughout, and after the war. Although some colonists sought to preserve the rights they enjoyed from tradition and custom, the Revolutionary War can be described as revolutionary because men put their life as well as their honor on the line to fight in a war when triumph seemed an unreachable goal. This was done to make radical changes such as formulating an entirely new system of government instead of creating a monarchy, as they had known. In the First Continental Congress, which occurred ... When America first separated itself from Britain, the founding fathers attempted to create the least amount of similarities as possible. The need to be different from Britain was shown primarily through the creation of the Articles of Confederation as they represented a strong reaction against the strong central government of Britain. The Continental Congress adopted the Articles on November 15, 1777 and they served as the United States first Constitution. There were many problems that came with the Articles. The government they created was so weak that tasks could not be completed efficiently. Because of the weak government, America could not grow economically which led to political uncertainty. The government had no power to enforce any legislation it passed and congress was denied the power to tax. Money was one of the greatest issues with the Articles of Confederation. Since the government was denied the right to tax, they could only request money from the states and these requests were often denied. • 13. Uxt Task 1 Essay I chose to study and analyze J.M.W. Turner s Slave Ship for this project and found it to be very interesting. Immediately while looking at the piece you get a strong sense of emotion and drama that is being portrayed. There is a lot of depth and warmth in the colors that are used and wide swift brush strokes to create the images. The first image that caught my eye was of waves crashing on the left side of the painting. The white tips of the waves are very noticeable against the softer shades of the ocean. Behind the waves is a ship which is the next part of the painting that drew my attention. The ship seems to be caught in the rough waves of the sea and barely able to keep afloat. Turner it is a lot clearer as to why he depicted such an emotional and vivid work of art in Slave Ship. Turner was inspired to paint this piece after reading The History and Abolition of the Slave Trade by Thomas Clarkson. In 1781, the captain of the slave ship Zong had ordered 133 slaves to be thrown overboard so that insurance payments could be collected. This event probably inspired Turner to create this artwork. Turner became an advocate for abolishing slavery around the world and even exhibited this painting during an anti slavery conference (History in an Hour). Common themes that were seen in the Romantic era, which spanned from the end of the eighteenth century to the beginning of the nineteenth century, were naturalism, Gothicism, emotionalism, and exoticism. Salve Ship definitely portrays some, if not all, of these themes. The most obvious used theme would be emotion. Turner is clearly trying to get an emotional response out of his audience with such a dark and dramatic subject matter in this piece or art. It would be very hard not to have high emotions when looking at it. Work of art from the Romantic time period shares many similarities with work that is seen in the modern world and today s audience can relate greatly to art from that time. There is a strong sense of emotion and erotic response in art in the modern age and people react strongly to that. Art from romanticism brings out the same emotion and response. ... A Critical Analysis Of Jackson Pollock And Steve Jobs All individuals living within a community, are constantly being influenced by others while they develop their personalities, habits, and morals. Some people are naturally inclined to follow and others are confident enough in their own thinking to lead. A leader must think for themselves, allowing their uniqueness to translate into creative solutions. An individual s decision to follow an unpopular path will always be either applauded or scrutinized by others, which can be discouraging. It is important for individuals to both listen to what others have to say about their work, while also remaining confident in their abilities. Trailblazers like Jackson Pollock and Steve Jobs show that in order for an individual to successfully take their own path in life and perpetuate it, they must find their calling, be confident in their abilities, and listen to other s critiques without allowing themselves to become filled with pressure or self doubt. Jackson Pollock succeeded in developing a new artistic technique to depict the world by accepting culture s initial reactions understandingly and remaining confident in himself. Pollock broadly describes the origin of his use of abstract expressionism in a 1949 interview with William Wright. It is composed of carefully collected data, and several hypothetical tests or experiments. Creswell, (2009) , theory differs from a hypothesis in that it is a set of scientific method, a process of asking and answering questions based on experiments. A theory not only explains proven facts; it also allows researchers to make predictions based on what they observe if a theory is proven or said to be true ( Laureate Education Inc., 2009). When conducting research, a researcher may choose to the three different methodologies that include quantitative, qualitative, and mixed research methods to analyze the data collected. These three methodologies all have differing ways of reaching a conclusion in a research study. For example, Quantitative research uses deductive or confirmatory scientific method; it is used primarily as a source of description, explanation, and as a way to predict an outcome. Quantitative research was built on the basis of quantitative data, used almost always as the analysis of variables. Organizational Cultures Impact on Organizational Structure The first part of this week s assignment was to look at how organizational structure impacts organizational culture and vice versa. But before we look at that let us review what organizational structure and culture are. Organizational culture as defined from the text is the shared values, principles, traditions, and ways of doing things that influence the way organizational members set (Robbins, Decenzo, Coulter, 2013). Also an organization s culture usually reflects the vision or mission of the organization s founders (Robbins, Decenzo, Coulter, 2013). Organizational structure is a hierarchical arrangement of lines of authority, communication, rights and duties of an organization (BusinessDictionary.com, 2013). Organizational structure determines how the roles, power and responsibilities are assigned, controlled, and coordinated, and how information flows between different levels of management (BusinessDictionary.com, 2013). Each one has it s own merits and demerits, though the disadvantages are more prominent than others. I will focus on three of the most interesting examples of governmental systems; an extreme right wing Anarchy; a centralised one, Monarchy; an extreme left wing, Autocracy. All of these have many different ways of power distribution: Autocracy lays all the power on one person, Anarchy has no governmental structure and Monarchy has a group of people leading the country; and each of these have many disadvantages. Radio Frequency Identification, or as it is more commonly known, RFID, is an automated identification and data collection (AIDC) technology. From access cards to passports to toll tags RFID has now become ubiquitous as an integral part of our daily lives. RFID is a small electronic device that consist of a small chip and an antenna. The chip typically is capable of carrying 2,000 bytes of data or less. RFID technology has been available for more than fifty years. It has only been recently that the ability to manufacture the RFID devices has fallen to the point where they can be used as a throwaway inventory or control device. It s been a decade since Wal Mart told its top suppliers that the world s largest retailer would charge a fee for each pallet of goods they shipped without a radio frequency identification tag to the giant Sam s Club distribution center in Texas. The bold initiative came at a time when many technology pundits were touting the long term benefits RFID would provide, not just to Wal Mart but also to its suppliers. Much like e commerce, hailed during the late 1990s as the death knell of brick and mortar retailing, RFID systems were oversold as essential and inevitable, despite much corporate resistance. The hype cycle about RFID climaxed a few years later when it became clear the technology was too costly and difficult to implement. A decade later, the hype has gone with the wind, but item level RFID technology is playing a much more important role ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. The Men of the Open Spaces THE MEN OF THE OPEN SPACES Identity is a very important part of being Australian; it is a feeling of being associated with a national group, defined by a common heritage, which may be based on many attributes, including race, territory, language and history. The Men of the Open Spaces , written be Will H. Ogilvie addresses these issues of Australian identity, constructing a powerful representation of the Australian bush culture. The text uses past views of popular culture that are still ubiquitous today, to construct a sense of national ideology. The text focuses on a very traditional concept of nationhood and constructs a stereotypical representation of Australian culture. This essay will explore this in relation to the discourses ... Reflective Response Paper Reflective Response 600 words Researching the issue of smoking and tobacco addiction in Russia has allowed me to learn more about the history and culture of the country, and increase my understanding about the effects of smoking in Russian speaking communities. Although no one in my close family smokes, I was surrounded by smokers when growing up and the issue of smoking remained unaddressed until I moved to Australia, where there are many anti smoking campaigns and education about the effect of drugs on the mind and body. After researching the topic, I realised that my knowledge and understanding about this issue had been very minor before conducting this investigation. I focused my in depth study on learning more about the amount of people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Brooke (2014). Russia Attacks Smoking With Big Guns. Voice of America. • 33. Religious Hypocrisy In A Good Man Is Hard To Find Research shows that several Flannery O Connor critics claim that her work A Good Man is Hard to Find does not parallel her devout Catholic faith, but rather replicate the ideologies of atheism and even go as far as to showcase religious hypocrisy. As Edwin Curley once quoted O Connor is often labelled as a Catholic writer, but there is nothing peculiarly Catholic, or even Christian about her dark view of human nature (Curley 31). This particular statement helps reaffirm the belief that O Connor demonstrates an atheist viewpoint and simultaneously contradicts her religious piety. However, O Connor subconsciously believes and demonstrates through her work that the Grandmother and the Misfit s final fate is to be redeemed by an epiphany of ... Rather than dissecting the various elements that O Connor utilizes to intertwine human nature with religion, Curley examines her writing and automatically claims that her work had nothing particularly Catholic, or even Christian on O Connor s work. Instead of studying how she might have related her pessimistic view of mankind to her religion, Curley relates her work to Machiavelli s The Prince and Thomas Hobbes Social Contract, two works symbolize human wickedness and lack of morality. Additionally, Stanley Renner s Secular Meaning in A Good Man Is Hard to Find display similar attitudes regarding the story and religious motives. Instead of showcasing O Connor s the religious motives mentioned above, Renner looks directly at the secular interpretations of the story. For example, Renner argues that the Grandmother s love for Jesus only stirred the murderer s homicidal rage (Renner 124), implying that the Misfit merely possessed atheist viewpoints instead of diving into the greater meaning of the story by how religion played a role in A Good Man Is Hard to Find. Furthermore, Douglas Leonard expresses that O Connor realizes the flimsiness of her old form of Christianity: her religion has consisted of nothing more than platitudes which she manipulated to suit her own purposes and with which she ...
