Common Sense Essay
Common Sense
The persuasion towards independence represented through the pamphlet Common Sense, is largely effective.
The work portrays the unjust treatment received by the colonies from the mother country, England. Thomas
Paine begins with the creation of government, as lived by the colonist, and progresses to the wrongful acts
administered by Parliament and the King of England. Finally, Thomas Paine gives confidence to the unity of
the colonies, and details a forceful removal of English authority. The argument is set up extensively in the
commencement of the pamphlet. Thomas Paine explains how the colonies began governing themselves. The
natural governing solution for the people of the new world was a representative ... Show more content on

The King, as well as England, begins to forget the colonies are inhabited by English men. The colonists are
consistently being stuck with wrongful governing and no election power. In America THE LAW IS KING , but
under England the colonies must respect the King as law (98). Unfortunately, the similarities between the two
are observed by Thomas Paine as few and far between.
Common Sense ventures towards the argument about the peace at mind and military protection provided by the
mother country. England gives excuses for the taxes and rulings because of the safety factor they preserve for
the colonies. Paine handles this argument by describing the time it would take to produce English armed
services on American soil. The lapse would be crucial, and possibly too late. Common Sense portrays some
beliefs: We have boasted the protection of Great Britain, without considering, that her motive was interest not
attachment; that she did not protest us from our enemies on our account, but from her enemies on her own
account, from those who had no quarrel with us on any other account, and who will always be our enemies on
the same account. (84) England is protecting the colonies when it is convenient for Her. Paine goes on to point
out the convenience presence when it comes to governing and taxing the colonies.
Thus Paine expresses a need for a

Imagery And Symbolism In Paper Towns By John Green
It s a paper town. I mean look at it, Q: look at all these cul de sacs, those streets that turn in on themselves, all
the houses that were built to fall apart. All those paper people living in their paper houses, burning the future to
stay warm. (Green, 57)The novel Paper Towns , by John Green is about a boy named Quentin Jacobson, who
has spent a life time loving the magnificently adventurous Margo Roth Spiegelman from afar, so when she
cracks open a window into his life, he follows. I think a major theme in the novel is seeing the truth in people,
and knowing that our view or idea of a person will never be enough to show all that a person really is. Also
knowing that people change all the time, and how we see or imagine them to be isn t ... Show more content on

The next two quotes are from Quentin and Margo s conversation, when he finally finds her after months of
looking for her. During their conversation about a story that Margo wrote about them, she tells Quentin, The
grass got me to you, helped me to imagine you as an actual person. But we re not different sprouts from the
same plant. I can t be you. You can t be me. You can imagine another well but never quite perfectly, you know?
(Green, 302)The Grass in the novel symbolises the interconnection between people. Although each grass
represents a different person, all grasses serve the same purpose which is to interconnect an entire lawn. Using
grass as a symbol helped to show that, even though we re all humans, (grass), were not the same persons, we
can t ever be or truly understand another person using the ideas and imaginations we have about them, because
these are not enough to show who a person really is. The next example of symbolism that I ll be using to prove
my thesis represents both individuality and interconnection. This quote is also from Margo and Quentin s
conversation, but this time is a quote from Quentin, where he tells Margo, When did we see each other face to
face? Not until you saw into my cracks and I saw into yours. Before that we were just looking at ideas of each
other, like looking at your window shade but never seeing inside. But once the vessel cracks the light can get
in. The light can get out. (Green, 302) In this case the vessels symbolises a combination of both individuality
and interconnectedness, because each person is their own vessel, and once they begin to crack, you get the
sense of interconnectedness by being able to see inside each other, but if the vessel doesn t crack, they stay in
their individuality. Only once a person s outside shell breaks, you can get to know them and see who they really
are on the inside. But if it doesn t crack you ll

Assess the potential environmental impact of a proposed construction project on the local natural environment.
Potential construction project for The City of Liverpool College LAX
Author: Matthew Ellis
Introduction:
I have been asked to put together a report for the potential construction project for The City Of Liverpool
College. The current site being looked at is on Roscoe Street. I will be discussing the consequences which
could occur to the buildings in proximity to the site location, and the people who could be affected.
Body:
During this part of the report, I will be discussing what problems could occur during each phase (pre
construction, construction, post construction) and how you can go about preventing this from ... Show more

Natural habitats:
A natural habitat is where a living being lives, for example, we live in our homes, birds live in trees/nests. As
this is a city, there isn t many places where animals can live. Birds can build the nests and bats can live in
buildings, but in terms of forestry for example, there isn t much for an animal. So it isn t necessary to go into
depth about this.
Construction:
During the construction phase, there will be a lot happening all over. This may vary from the actual erecting of
the building, to the transport of goods, to the extraction of materials needed, etc. There will be a lot of damage
done to the o zone layer, a lot of habitat and biodiversity destroyed, amongst other things.
Transport of goods:
The transport of good is when materials that are needed for the building are transported to the site, generally by
vehicles. The problem with this is there would be a lot of materials needed to supply this project. Nitrogen
oxide is formed when the combustion of fuels takes place. Vehicles use fuels (oil) as a source of power, which
then releases nitrogen oxides into the atmosphere, which is what is destroying our atmosphere. In the UK, this
is the biggest pollutant we release. And it is done mostly by cars.
Nitrogen oxide, when exposed over a long duration of time, can decrease lung function and also increase the
chance of getting bronchitis, cough or phlegm, which is more likely to come into

Decolonization in the Hawaiian Islands Essay
The people of Hawaii and other Pacific Island Nation groups have experienced great injustice from their
colonial powers and the acts of imperialism. Lands were seized, cultural practices banned, language lost, and
people were even forced to move away from their homes for the purpose of bomb testing. The United States
and other countries abroad sent out representatives to do their work for them; in return their future actions
would be justified in describing the Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders as savages that need to have wider
powers enforced upon them; thus resulting in a tangled web of political mythologies.
The first step in legitimizing the take over of an indigenous person was to make them less human. In Stannard s

The Hawaiians were further depicted as thieves like the rest of the people in Polynesia, and plagued with the
barbaric accusation of committing infanticide. These so called facts were enough for the Euro American forces
to send out missionaries to regulate the Hawaiian people and take over their land and all their practices.
(Stannard, 381 417)
As a result to new people coming into colonizes Hawaii and its people, the Hawaiians suffered many
consequences. Formerly, the Hawaiian Islands remained isolated from the rest of the world. Once they were
tainted with outside contact, the Hawaiians quickly fell ill with disease causing their population to go on rapid
decline. Smaller populations allowed the missionaries to eventually gain more control. Eventually hula was
prohibited, as well as the language and other past times, the final straw coming down to Hawaii s illegal
annexation. The Hawaiian culture was almost lost completely; but if so it would have been legitimate to the
missionaries because they were indeed helping these indigenous peoples become less savage like and closer to
God.
Another important case of the government approving disaster was when the United States permitted atomic and
hydrogen bomb testing in the Pacific. It

Parody In Monty Python s Life Of Brian
Monty Python s Life of Brian traces the tragic last year of Brian of Nazareth, a man who shares his exact
birthday and town with Jesus Christ, the subject of countless biblical epic films. Comedy distinguishes this
biopic, which features a male actor playing the analog of the Virgin Mary, a cured leper begging for alms, and
spontaneous song on the crucifix. It is not sufficient, however, to relegate the film to parody, which seems the
obvious criticism, simply for taking a comedic outlook. The unique style and construction of many scenes
imply that comedy partially motivated the film, but other stimuli clearly contributed to its simple message.

In this case, the viewer expects the Virgin Mary to accept frankincense, gold, and myrrh. The feminized male
voice, the hideous face, the slapstick, and questioning if myrrh is a dangerous animal all interrupt anticipated
conventions that are informed by Bible scholarship, history, and a host of previous artistic works. The
canonical information that contributes to the viewer s expectations is restored when the mother tells the three
wise men that her child is called Brian, thus relinquishing the Christ parody that could have been. The realism
that permeates the first few shots allows the payoff joke to work. Production designer and group member Terry
Gilliam describes the achieved realism in relation to the intended overall style: We actually wanted to give it a
very rich feel, we didn t want it to be too lit. You very often find comedy is over lit, but we wanted it to look
like an art film. I don t see any reason why a comedy shouldn t be beautiful. I wanted it to look like an epic: to
look rich and have depth of color. The intricate scenes in the film reveal a balance between humor and
historical reality that allows it to creatively explore ancient culture without having to rely on other canonical
films for a cheap laugh. The movie going public naturally assumes comedy plus history equals parody, which is
usually appropriate considering, for example, Robin Hood: Men in Tights (Mel Brooks, 1993), which barely

The Colonies Of The United States Essay
In the 1607, the Virginia Company sent three ships over to America in search of finding gold and silver. This
first permanent settlement, Jamestown, was founded in the Chesapeake Bay region. After the land had failed to
produce gold or silver, the Virginia Company began to sell the land for property which started the colonization
of what is to start the spark of the thirteen colonies. Great Britain began to colonize in the present day United
States of America by creating the Thirteen Colonies. The colonies, which can be divided into three separate
regions: Northern, Middle, and Southern, have been formed by different groups of people who have helped to
shape the region which they belong to. Colonist came over in search of many opportunities. Opportunities to
find new jobs and religious freedom gave the colonist hope while travelling across the Atlantic. The cultural
blend that made up the colonies led to different colonies to form amongst them. The geographical
characteristics of the colonial regions helped shape what the colony is most beneficial for. The northern
colonies consist of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and New Hampshire. The northern region had
poor soil and a harsh climate. The cold climate helped prevent the spread deadly diseases from infecting the
people.
The middle region of the colonies consisted of New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New Jersey. These
colonies had a more temperate climate which benefited them to have a longer growing

Southeast Asian Region and Orientalism
Introduction
Southeast Asia is an imagined region comprising eleven independent countries. Although these countries have
many distinct patterns and thus defined as one region, they remain differentiated, from their indigenous history
background, their environmental and physical differences, their religious tolerance, as well as their current
political and economical status. The characteristic of this region can be described as: diversity (K Danielson,
2009).
In my research paper, I will draw Indonesia as a representation of the whole Southeast Asia region. The reason
for doing so is due to Indonesia s diverse characteristic, which I believe is very representative of the region as a
whole. By analyzing President Barack Obama s speech: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People of Indonesia of that time was struggling and fighting for their independence. This is also how many
foreigners think about the political status of the Southeast Asian countries. This was true about fifty years ago,
but is completely changed now, by an extraordinary democratic transformation, as mentioned by Obama. The
peaceful power transfer and the direct leaders election of Indonesia during these years bring the country a
dynamic civil society , political parties and unions , and a vibrant media and engaged citizens . By discussing
the successfully democratic transformation, Obama helps the foreigners gain information about what the real
political status is in Indonesia, which enables them to rethink what they used to think about the Southeast Asia
might have changed totally.
In the last place, Obama discussed the topic of religion, which is a fundamental of Indonesian people. The

Toni Morrison s first published novel is The Bluest Eye, which was published in 1970. As Telgen explains, The
Bluest Eye tells the story of Claudia Macteer. The book opens in present tense but continues to go back and
forth between Claudia s present self, her nine year old self, and an omniscient point of view. The novel mostly
centers around Claudia, Frieda, who Claudia s sister, and their attachment to a young black girl named Pecola
Breedlove. Throughout the story the narrators take turns showing the hardships of each family and how Claudia
and Pecola constantly wish for blue eyes, thinking that is they had them their lives would be much easier and
more enjoyable(68). Toni Morrison later published Sula, which also received a lot of attention, in 1973. As
Smith clarifies, Sula takes place in the African American part of a town known as The Bottom in Medallion,
Ohio. The novel centers around Sula Peace, but often tells stories of her dysfunctional family also. Sula Peace
is described as dark, and not just because of her skin. Sula has a very dark personality that affects her family
members in various ways(243). Fourteen years later Toni Morrison published another hit novel, Beloved. As
Napierkowski and Stanley state, Beloved takes place throughout the Civil War and is centered around the
struggles of that Sethe, the main character, and her family face. Throughout the novel you see how broken
Sethe is because of slavery. She lives her live in her own small insulated world where she is constantly trying to
escape her past(27 28). Although Morrison outstanding writing abilities has gotten her books very far, she did
not always want to be an author. Toni Morrison says, I never wanted to be a writer, but I was always an avid
reader of fiction. I really began writing myself when I drifted into a writer s group while teaching at Howard

Blackpool. It also looks at the economic, social, political and environmental impacts of tourism. There are a
variety of reasons why Blackpool has been developed as a tourist resort, and it has many historical sites of
interest including the beach and Blackpool Tower. It also has a variety of leisure activities. Blackpool also
offers a wide range of accommodation and restaurant options. It is a very accessible location, with airports,

I will also discuss how Blackpool has responded to International tourism, and how it has dealt with a decline of
tourists in recent years. I will also look at the different managerial strategies that Blackpool has enforced to try
and regenerate its declining tourist numbers; including the variety of marketing strategies it has tried in order to
attract different tourists.
There are many factors that can affect the growth of tourism in a certain area. This can include the location of
the site, how accessible it is, or the amenities that the site has to offer. Tourism trends are ever changing, with
different areas of the market always in growth or decline. Due to changing circumstances of British tourists,
this has influenced the way we travel and the places that we now visit for holidays. A variety of factors
including; increased car ownership, improved education, improved health and fitness, and a tendency to travel
further have all affected how we travel and where to. This has resulted in national holidays facing a decline in
tourism and an increase in holidays abroad. Moutinho s theory was that trends would change due to certain
factors affecting tourists. This includes Globalisation, Technological acceleration as well as exploration. All
these ideas would result in tourists travelling to previously unexplored destinations that were out of the
ordinary and very different to the type of holidays being bought in the 1950 s. With

What Is Freudian Slip Theory
Introduction
Freudian slip theory was originally created by Sigmund Freud. He was an Austrian neurologist and was better
known as the founder of psychoanalysis (1856 1939). Psychoanalysis can be defined as a set of psychological
theories which includes the Freudian slip theory. He believed that everyone possess an unconscious mind,
feelings, desires and memories in their lifetime. It is to be said that peoples will bring their unconscious content
on their mind to their conscious awareness and people will be able to experience catharsis and gain insight into
their current state of mind. (Cherry, What is Psychoanalysis?, 2016)

In Favor of Gun Ownership in the US
The ownership of a firearm should not be illegal when most gun owners are law abiding citizens who use guns
in a responsible manner. Our country s founding fathers ratified the second amendment as a part of our
Constitution in order to protect citizen s right to bear arms and to be prepared for foreign invasion. However,
currently the views on gun ownership are beginning to differ even more in urban and rural communities across
America because of how each society is individually affected by the use of firearms. Many Americans who rely
on concealed weapons are women and even families while some Americans are not yet permitted to keep a
firearm like school staff and store owners. Also many sheriffs across the United States oppose gun ... Show

The Legal Action Project determined that the main purpose of writing the Second Amendment was to make
sure that the federal government would not be able to disarm the militia. Also during the late eighteenth century
colonists and even the Founding Fathers wanted reassurance that in case of a standing army there would be a
militia ready for a counterattack. The author, James Madison, obviously guarantees that the right to bear arms
is a collective right of all the people not just the government s army (Dolan Jr. 71). However many argue that
the second amendment only refers to our country s organized army, not the whole population. Their reason for
this is that no country should put their lives in the hands of mere civilians. Alexander Hamilton specifies that
there are actually two militias; the first is organized, while the second consists of the rest of the people (Dolan
Jr. 47). There is no surprise when people hear about how the gun control is openly despised in rural
communities. Areas centered on agriculture and or the great outdoors are focal points of recreational firearms
use, whether it is for hunting or just target practice. Often children are taught in these areas how to load, shoot,

The Impact Of Social Media On Body Image
In today s society, social media has increased drastically and has become an essential part of many individuals
lives. Unfortunately, studies show that social media negatively impacts women s perceptions about their own
beauty and self worth; research shows that the media portrays beauty as an unrealistic standard, and due to this,
women are suffering from negative body images (Cash Henry, 1995). From models and celebrities to
magazines and billboards, unnatural beauty ideals are emphasized to women everywhere. Although they are
unrealistic, society has managed to push them on women and make them feel like being natural is not
acceptable. Part of the issue is that media does not portray women of all types, shapes, colors, and forms as
beautiful (Patton, 2006). Furthermore, an inequality in the beauty standards between males and females must
be addressed in order to combat the harmful injustices caused by the unequal expectations of beauty of the
sexes.
A study done by Engeln Maddox (2005) researched college women s cognitive processing of print
advertisements when presented pictures of very attractive female models consistent with ideal beauty
standards. The researchers wanted to discover how to images affected the participants and whether critical
processing could combat against social comparison. The researchers found that making social comparisons
after viewing the pictures is significantly associated with internalizing the beauty ideals which decreases

Criticism Of Modernism In Virginia Woolf s To The Lighthouse
Virginia Woolf was born Stephen in 1882, she passed away in 1941. She had four siblings and grew up in
London, but St. Ives in Cornwall was the long term summer residency of her family. Her mother passed away
in 1895, which was the starting point of Virginia Woolf s history of depression, within a ten year period her
father and her elder brother also died (Lavizzari 1991 251). These biographical aspects are relevant, in so far
that some events of to the Lighthouse are influenced, or mirror them. To the Lighthouse was Woolf s fifth novel
and the publication with which she felt that she finally had successfully established herself as a writer (Bell
1980 137).
Woolf herself tried to reject her Victorian and Edwardian age literary influences, which constitutes a key

Disadvantages Of Internet Addiction
Why did internet addiction ratio increase in last five years? There are a lot of answers of these questions.
Nowadays internet greatly affects our lives because internet is common in Turkey and everybody can easily
access internet. Internet addiction generally means spending time on internet. (Simkova Cincera, 2004; Leung,
2004; Yellowlees Marks, 2007) In diagnosing internet addiction; tests, scales, criteria, control list and likewise
instruments and techniques can be used .But there are common reasons to be dependent on internet. So there
are some disadvantages of internet addiction. For example; effects of social changes, effects of internet cafes,

Social networking sites allow you to communicate quickly. This aspect is beneficial and beautiful for our lives.
But this is not good sometimes. People can move away from their real life. People want to look different from
actually. They have a virtual environment and they are happy with their virtual friends. Computer games,
gambling, chat causes internet addiction. In fact, virtual environment doesn t make them happy. Because when
they don t have internet, they are lonely and depressed. This means internet addiction. There are solutions that.
If people have inadequate control mechanism, this is most important reason for internet addiction. People
should plan their times to use internet. This time should be short. And if people have important works in
internet, they should use it. For example computer games, chat, film, music are not mandatory necessities for
our lives. These are entertainment. People should spend the limited time for entertainment. People will see that
real life is more enjoyable than virtual life. But people need strong will for

The Problem Of Cyber Crime
Introduction
Qualified candidates are limited since, for those investigating or examining cyber crime must be highly trained
specialists, requiring detective and technical skills, including knowledge of various IT hardware and software,
and forensic tools. Nevertheless, in the modern world computer or computer related crime makes up a great
amount of percentage of all the crimes happiness which is bound to increase. The Office for Victim Assistance
ensures that victims of crimes investigated by the FBI are presented the opportunity to receive the services and
notification as required by federal law guidelines
Issues law enforcement must deal with regarding digital crime and terrorism.
The number of police agencies with advanced or computer crime unit has increased extensively over the last
several years, but the majority of these agencies serve large urban populations (Wolf, 2009). Also, prosecutors
and judges are turning out to be well versed in computer crime and the unique law and vagaries inherent in
these cases. Thus, it has been unclear how well the state and local law enforcement agencies are equipped to
handle these offenses.
For instance, a study of forensic examiners found that they are frequently overworked and experience stress
related to their work. Actually, for those who were interviewed, half of them felt that they did not have the
workforce to complete their tasks at work (Wolf, 2009). In addition, assessors recognize that they need greater

Black Women In America Research Paper
Do You Know Which Country has an Airline Started by a Black Woman?
The United States prides itself on being a land of opportunities, and in many ways it is. We look at countries
like South Africa, which not long ago was segregated through the laws of Apartheid, and we are glad that we
are so much further along than the land of Mandela. However, every now and then we need to stop and ask
ourselves just how far along we really are, and we have to wonder if many of the once oppressed countries we
helped free are not passing us up in the area of civil rights and opportunity.
For example, one thing that South Africa now has that America does not is a black female owner of an airline.

Seatbelt Research Paper
Newton s law of inertia states ...an object in motion tends to stay in motion with the same speed and direction
unless acted upon by an unbalanced force. In the event that a person who is not wearing a seatbelt gets into a
collision they will continue to stay in motion until they hit the dashboard, windshield or etc. The way to prevent
injuries from occurring during a collision would be wearing your seatbelt as it stops the forward momentum.
Kinetic energy affects the stopping distance of two identical vehicles going different speeds because when you
double your speed, you re doubling the kinetic energy of your vehicle up to four times. The brakes must do an
amount of work that is equal to the original kinetic energy. Therefore, the stopping ... Show more content on

The larger the vehicle, the larger the mass. The smaller the vehicle, the less the mass. Assuming that both
vehicles are going the same speed, the small vehicle will take less stopping distance compared to a large
vehicle.
A driver can best prepare entering sharp curves in the roadway by gradually decelerating to a safe speed before
entering the curve. If you enter a curve with high speed or brake suddenly, you risk the chance of losing control
of your vehicle. If you find yourself entering a sharp curve too fast, brake gently. Bicyclists and motorcyclists
have to lean toward the inside to keep balance when rounding a curve. In a manual transmission vehicle, shift
to a lower gear.
The fatality of a car crash depends on a certain number of things. First, is the driver and/or passengers wearing
seatbelts? Someone who is wearing a seatbelt is more likely to make it out alive with a few minor injuries than
someone who isn t. Second, the force of impact between two objects. The faster you drive, the greater the
striking power of your vehicle, the worse the damage in a collision. Third, the mass of the vehicle. The vehicle
with the less mass will take the greater impact. Larger vehicles have more energy and momentum than smaller

Therefore, because they are closer the particles will collide more often. The more often they collide the more
chance they have of producing a productive reaction. If I had a wide range of molarities, it would be easy to see
this pattern.
METHOD
Before conducting our experiment where we would get our facts and evidence from, we carried out a pre test.
The pre test helped us decide the exact details of our experiment. We started off with testing 25cm³ of 3 molar
hydrochloric acid to 2g of calcium carbonate medium size chips (we decided a medium size chips before we
started our pre test as we had a choice of 3, small, medium, large). We saw that this reacted too quickly as we
used 10 second intervals and we couldn t get 6 results this is because our burette could only hold
100cm³ of water, which would make our results reliable. We then decreased the amount of Calcium Carbonate
to 1g and kept the same
25cm³ of 3 molar hydrochloric acid and 10 second intervals. We could get the right amount of results of this, so
we then tested the other extreme the lowest molarity. We tested both the highest and lowest molar, as the
molars in between would work and give us sufficient results if these two worked. We took the 25cm³ of 0.5
molar hydrochloric acid and our 1g of calcium carbonate. This also worked.
This meant from our pre test that we would use 25cm³ of the solution,
1g of Calcium Carbonate and have 10 seconds interval between each reading. We

The poem The Tyger by William Blake
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all men liberally, and upbraids not, and it shall be
given to him. These wise words of King James verse (1:5) of the bible portrays an underlying message that
although we should follow in God s path, we are not expected to follow blindly. Likewise, in the poem The
Tyger by William Blake, it s theme is a reflection of what this quote implies. Throughout this poem, Blake
explores the possibility of questioning God while using the structure of the poem, as well as the irony of God s
character, and several sound devices in hopes of communicating a message, that to question God is only human
nature.
First of all, the structure of Blake s poem really contributes to emphasizing it s theme. Roughly the poem is
divided into three major parts, the author starts by describing a tiger, a ferocious and deadly animal. He slowly
transitions into questioning the creation of the Tyger, which he purposely and carefully organizes as context to
the third stage where he will prove what he is trying to convey through this poem. And what shoulder, and what
art. Could twist the sinews of thy heart? (11 120) This quote, taken from the second part of this poem s
structure displays an example the kind of questions Blake would ask about the tiger s creation. It supports the
theme by helping to create suspense to really magnifying the third part of the poem s structure by making the
reader really think, which is essential in

Compare the central characters in Medusa and My Last Duchess
Carol Ann Duffy s Medusa and Robert Browning s My Last Duchess are two entirely different poems in many
respects. Written in entirely different eras, some would say that they are as opposite as poetry could be.
However, their central characters have some remarkable similarities that strike a chord with the reader and
represent a common theme. In each of the poems, both Medusa and the Duke of Ferrara represent the
fickleness of power and how it fluctuates in daily life. Duffy s manipulation of a paradox within Medusa
displays the extent to which power plays a part in the Greek myth of Medusa. The extended metaphor of
Medusa with filthy snakes that hissed and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He calls the painting of her a wonder and does not elaborate upon this, suggesting that while he was fond of his
wife, their love was quite subdued. This allows him to remain calm and present a dignified front. However, as
the poem continues, he becomes more obsessive over her and speaks quite aggressively of what he deems to be
promiscuous behaviour. The bough of cherries some officious fool broke in the orchard for her seems to be a
major part of his outrage, as he is offended that she ranked my gift of a nine hundred years old name with
anybody s gift . By telling his companion of this in a conversation that merely started with mention of a
painting, the Duke reveals that he is very much not in control of himself. These constant tests of his patience
which seem very much unintentional on the Duchess part seem to weigh heavily on the Duke s mind as he says
here you miss, or there exceed the mark showing heavy criticism on the Duchess. He wanted her to let herself
be lessoned so , which shows the extent to which her behaviour troubles him. It also creates the air of
superiority in that he sees himself as a sort of teacher, and her as the student. The loss of control comes where
all smiles stopped together , suggesting a macabre end to the story. Both Medusa and the Duke seem to cause
destruction and chaos around them as a direct result of being emotionally impacted by those they love. This

Homelessness And Poverty And Homelessness
Imagine a world where it is illegal to sit down. Could you survive if there were no place you were allowed to
fall asleep, to store your belongings, or to stand still? For most of us, these scenarios seem unrealistic to the
point of being ludicrous. But, for homeless people across America, these circumstances are an ordinary part of
life. (National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty 7)
While a portion of today s society turns a blind eye to the subject of the criminalization of homelessness, an
even larger quantity of people are not aware of the situation that is happening in every major city of America.
For those living an affluent lifestyle, it can be difficult to discuss the amount of poverty and homelessness that
is constantly occurring. The definition and meaning behind the absence of home is also arduous to discuss.
While homelessness is commonly associated with sleeping outside or in provisional areas, this word also
identifies with an absence of belonging. This absence of belonging can relate not only to a community, but also
to the people that dwell there (Baumohl 3). Within the portion of those who are aware of the homelessness
situation, there is a section that detests the poverty stricken persons of our society. These biased members of the
American population express their antipathy in several ways. It is necessary to reveal the privileges that
homeless persons have been violently stripped of, and expose and broadcast the freedom they are entitled to.

Induction And Induction Essay
Deduction and Induction Isabel Bolio
A way in which a human being can acquire knowledge is by reasoning through guided principles of validity;
which is therefore through logic. This extends our understanding of our surroundings. Within logic there are
two branches that lead to reasonable conclusions, these are: inductive and deductive logic. In the following
paragraphs this two instruments will be described and exemplified in order to compare them as means to reach
logic.
Inductive logic is the form to achieve a conclusive and specific knowledge through general rules. It is the urge
of humans to construct patterns of observation through time. We all use simple induction all the time; for
example. We assume that because the sun has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This example demonstrates how humans draw conclusions without enough examples, therefore another
problem arises: how many examples do we need to form a completely truthful conclusion?
On the other hand there is the opposite of Inductive logic: Deductive logic. It is the process by which a secure
conclusion can be reached through one or more general statements that are otherwise called premises . It goes
form general to specific. So if one is equal to two and two is equal to three then we know that one is equal to
two. This way of reasoning is easily applied to our ordinary lives an example is: every day I leave to school at
eight o clock; I take fifteen minutes and get there on time, therefore if today I leave at eight o clock I will get to
school on time. Another example; all students that have high SAT scores do well in collage, a Laura had high
SAT scores, she will do well in collage.
Equivalently to Inductive reasoning deductive logic has limitations. The issue is that the premises are either
drawn form observation or are merely assumptions. This means that the premises of a deductive argument may
come from inductive reasoning, which automatically leads us to the previous problems encountered. It may
however be that the deductive argument is

Which is why I take advantage of every opportunity that is giving to me to help others. I think we tend to forget
that even the smallest gesture or helping hand, can make a huge difference in someone s life. Take the
expanding issues of homelessness and poverty for instance. At least once a day, we witness an individual or a

homelessness. The statistics vary from state to state. Approximately 33,466 of those individuals live in the state
of Florida. The city Orlando, resides 2,074 out of the 33,466 individuals.
Although all these individuals are experiencing homelessness, not everyone shares a common cause for their
homelessness. There are three types of homelessness each having a different cause and issue. The three types
are chronic, transitional, and episodic. Chronic homelessness is the least common homelessness, but it consists
of those who are homeless for a longer amount of time, usually being elderly or injured individuals.
Transitional homelessness is when people stay at a shelter for a short period of time due a catastrophic event or
forced to go for a short period of time. It is also considered to be the most common type of homelessness.

Network Systems And Their Topology Essay
Network Systems
As one of the representatives of Corner Shop Realtor, I would like to present the advantages and disadvantages
of network systems and their topology. Changing the system of data management in the company will allow the
company to keep data more organised and secured, as well as give the company opportunity to expand in other
fields of business.
Network systems are divided into several categories, depending on their properties and use.
The smallest network is a PAN (Personal Area Network) currently the most common is wireless networks used
in offices or homes, which typically includes a computer, printer and mobile devices. This is a small personal
network, used to transmit data at the lowest level, which can operate independently of the Internet connection.
The individual devices are connected to it, in most cases using a Bluetooth or Wi Fi module.
LAN (Local Area Network) is a local area network, which can be extended to multiple computers or other
devices, e.g. a larger office, hotel or apartment building. LAN allows its users to use the same resources and
applications, as well as transfer or exchange files. Communication can take place using copper wires or
wireless Wi Fi, and can be independent of the Internet as long as a network card is available.
Individual LAN networks link to the larger network of MAN (Metropolitan Area Network), a municipal
network. The connection between local networks is via fibre optic cables, or radio waves.

I choose the third section No Jobs. The third part talks about how First World jobs are outsourced, off shored

The factories are cheaply constructed and tossed together on land that is rented and everyone in the zone has

Radiation Therapy
In radiation therapy, certain treatment plans require a water equivalent material called a bolus to raise the
maximum dose buildup (Dmax) closer to the surface of the skin. One of the most common materials used to
create this more superficial treatment dose is a commercial product called Superflab. Superflab is a
manufactured vinyl gel material that is uniform in thickness, easy to cut, and reusable (Radiation Products Inc,
2010). Therapists use other materials in clinical settings, but there is currently very little research available
comparing alternative bolus materials and their respective Dmax values. The limited amount of research that is
available look at different materials such as wet gauze and other similar materials for their easy, ... Show more

They conducted an experiment that tested dose uniformity of an entire CTV with a mixture of petroleum jelly,
wax, and glass beads and the use of Superflab as a bolus. They used both a cobalt Theratron 780 machine and a
6 MV Clinac 21EX linear accelerator. They shaped the two boluses to a canine cadaver to create a uniform
shape for treatment. They shaped the jelly mixture around both sides of the cadaver leg and then covered that
with Superflab. Results showed that the combination of the mixed material bolus and Superflab created an
acceptable uniform surface dose over the entire CTV. The researchers concluded that this mixture is useful for
uneven surfaces, areas with a concern about air gaps with Superflab alone, and is a viable option for tissue

The Role Of Parents Sport Socialization Of Youth
Research Paper:
The Role of Parents in Sport Socialization of Youth
Lucas Eckert
PSE4UO
Introduction Socialization is the process in which an individual becomes a member of society. Parents are the
most significant agent in the socialization of their children. They have a tremendous influence on the type of
people their children grow up to be. They pass on their beliefs and values to their children and influence their
child s personality and morals. In sports, there is also a process of socialization, in which the individual
becomes a part of the athletic community. In this process, parents also posses significant influence over their
children (Quinton, 2012). They decide whether or not their children play sports, which sports their children
may play, and they can greatly affect their child s enjoyment and performance in the sport. This influence can
either lead to positive or negative effects on the children s experience with sport. This depends on the level of
involvement and the nature of that involvement (Shwarzlose, 2013). The purpose of this paper is to discuss the
ways by which parents influence their child s process of socialization in sport, and identify the positive and
negative effects associated with the different methods. This paper will also provide several case studies of
professional athletes and evaluate the parents involvement in the athletes career.
Pressure to Participate The most basic form of influence the parent possesses over the

Cruel Optimism Analysis
The writer may suggest that one should not focus their attention on the topic of abortion, but rather live life to
the fullest. The author mentioned cruel optimism as an ideology that people intend to achieve in order to
become happy in the society. The writer quotes
Cruel optimism names a relation of attachment to compromised conditions of possibility whose realization is
discovered either to be impossible, sheer fantasy, or too possible, and toxic. What s cruel about these
attachments, and not merely inconvenient or tragic, is that the subjects who have x in their lives might not well
endure the loss of their object or scene of desire, even though its presence threatens their well being; because
whatever the content of the attachment is, the continuity of the form of it provides something of the continuity
of the subject s sense of what it means to keep on living on and to look forward to being in the world (94). The
author may argue that in the society, some human beings may experience cruel optimism, in the sense that if
the source of one s happiness deals with wealth, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, if the source of happiness for another community deals with banning abortion, then the community
has to abide by the ideology. For instance, assume that a person has a child does the person with the child
automatically become happy? Also, if a person aborts a child would the person become happy and achieve the
ideal dream of the social standard of the community? Lastly, are there any other factors that contributed to one
s own happiness? All these questions may draw the reader to the ideal of cruel optimism. Moreover, if both
communities come together, then the ideology cannot be achieved and both communities end up with

Susan Glaspell s Play, Trifles
What are trifles? In Susan Glaspell s play, Trifles, we look at a murder case that happens in an isolated
farmhouse. Mr. Wright has been murdered while he was asleep. Someone has a strung a rope around his neck.
That someone is Mrs. Wright. Trifles illustrates that men have substantially more power than women. They first
start by going in to the kitchen. Everyone observes the kitchen to see that it is a mess. The men leaves the
room. The ladies wonder about the kitchen. Mrs. Wright requested that the ladies bring her an apron to her.
After finding the apron they both wonder around the kitchen to find that the table was half cleaned. Mrs. Hale
[Who is standing by the table.] Well, I don t see any signs of anger around here. [She puts her hand on the dish
towel which lies on the table, stands looking down at table, one half of which is clean, the other half messy.] It
s wiped to here. (line 68) Mrs. Hale says that there is no sign of anger but that clearly is the case. A normal
person won t just clean half the table and leave the other half of uncleaned. There had a to be a reason for this.
Even though Mrs. Hale doesn t realize it, she was on to something. Mrs. Wright was mad at Mr. Wright so she
didn t clean his side of the table. The ladies find that Mrs. Wright had a quilt. Mrs. Hale It s log cabin pattern.
Pretty, isn t it? I wonder if she was goin to quilt it or just knot it? (line 72) Mrs. Wright could have quilted it or
knotted it. She ended up knotting it. Ms.

The United States Department of Labor Laws
This paper will discuss the United States Department of Labor laws. Americans are protected under these laws
from injustices that may occur in the work place. There are over a hundred different laws that have been
created by the government and that companies are mandated to adhere by.
One law that many employers teeter the line on crossing on day to day bases is the Fair Labor Standards Act.
This law prescribes standards for wages and overtime pay, which affect most private and public employment.
The act is administered by the Wage and Hour Division. It requires employers to pay covered employees who
are not otherwise exempt at least the federal minimum wage and overtime pay of one and one half times the
regular rate of pay. For nonagricultural operations, it restricts the hours that children under age 16 can work and
forbids the employment of children under age 18 in certain jobs deemed too dangerous. For agricultural
operations, it prohibits the employment of children under age 16 during school hours and in certain jobs
deemed too dangerous (Summary of the Major Laws of the Department of Labor). I personally have held
positions that I thought were promotions but once in the actual job found out that I am working twenty to thirty
hours more a week and in hindsight bringing in less income. This happens to employee s everyday and
employers make these employees salary so that they do not have to pay them increase wages. It happens more
in this day and time because

Short Story Of Trè s Husband
As Trè s saddened blue eyes fell upon the enormous box of photographs, he felt his heart crack right in two. He
still hasn t accepted that this all had happened. He was still unable to come to terms with the fact that he was
now busy preparing a funeral for his best friend. His best friend. The words seemed to mock him. To Trè s utter
anguish, that was all he ever had been. All he ever would be. Nothing more, nothing less. And it was all
because Trè had been too afraid to tell him otherwise. Why were those three little words, silly as they were, so
daunting? Why had they been so utterly impossible to speak? He had said them so easily, so emptily, so many
times before, to so many women he didn t truly love. Why, then, had they been ... Show more content on

The show had been in West Palm Beach, Florida, if he remembered correctly. He remembered the concert so
clearly for some reason; he remembered the sticky, hot air, and the occasional salty sea breeze that blew

most specifically one that read Fuck me Tré! in bright blue letters. He remembered, for some reason, especially
loving Billie s passion that night, he remembered his heart sweeping with love as it always did as he watched
the man he adored do what he did best with such ardor. He remembered wandering into a small sports bar he
for some reason specifically remembered to be named Duffy s about an hour after the show had ended and
sharing a basket of savory buffalo wings with Billie. He remembered how many times their sauce covered
hands had accidentally touched or brushed against each other when they had both reached for the same wing.

Phobias and the Brain Essay
Phobias and the Brain
You are in an airport waiting for your plane to arrive. You ve never flown before, and are more terrified than
you can ever remember being. Everyone has told you the supposedly comforting statistics millions of planes
take off each day and there s only a handful of crashes, flying is safer than driving. You know rationally that
there is no reason to be so scared, but regardless your heart is racing, your palms are sweating, and you re light
headed. Simply the thought of being up in the air, out of control, makes you feel faint. Finally the flight
attendant announces that your plane has arrived. But as all the other passengers line up to get onboard, you grab
your luggage and walk straight out of the airport, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(3) Women are two to three times as likely to have phobias than men. There are three basic kinds of phobias:
agoraphobia (fear of situations in which escape may be difficult), social phobia, and specific phobias. The
DSM IV has separated phobic stimuli into four basic categories: animal, situational, blood injury, and nature
environment. (3)
Though the experience of phobias is relatively common and their physical characteristics are generally well
understood, there is no real consensus on the neurobiological basis of phobias. Instead, there are currently
several different models and theories that work to try to understand how and why phobias occur in the human
brain. Most hypotheses regarding phobias take a different approach, from biological to psychoanalytic to
evolutionary. Is there one model that seems less wrong or more satisfying in our efforts to understand the
biology of phobias? Using the various models, how do phobias seem to come about? How does thinking about
phobias add to our understanding of the brain and behavior?
The classical conditioning model was one of the first theories used to describe phobias. Many years ago,
scientists observed that one could willingly elicit a fear response in an animal or human through systematic
teaching. For example, if every time a rat is presented with a low buzzing noise, it is electrically shocked,
eventually, when it hears the noise alone (with no shock), it will exhibit symptoms of fear. (3) Scientists

Essay about Canadian-Aboriginals
Aboriginal Canadians have an excessive history of mistreatment and discrimination in Canada. Europeans
considered Canada s First Nations as savages, eventually residential schools were created which in extreme
cases were comparable to Prisoner of War camps. According to Evelyn Kallen, Substandard housing breeding
disease and death, closed schools due to lack of teachers, heat, and/or running water are only two examples of
continuing, dehumanizing life conditions on many reserves (198). Although, extensive improvements have
been made to reservations and Aboriginal rights, more improvement remains necessary. Allan Blakeney stated,
An important starting point of course, is that Aboriginal people in Canada do not, as a group, occupy high ...

I believe this is a step in the right direction for Aboriginal rights. It is crucial to preserve Aboriginal history to
create a just nation for Canada. As well, it is equally important to retrieve information from elders regarding
their extensive traditions and beliefs and to preserve these traditional stories. The Canadian government should
allocate funding towards Aboriginal festivals, museums, and other public events to educate all Canadians about
Aboriginal culture and heritage, as well, this would show respect for Aboriginal Canadians. Therefore, I believe
funding allocated to the preservation of Aboriginal history can improve the plight of Aboriginal Canadians.
Second, Canada s First Nations plight can be improved through self governance. According to Pocklington, For
several years, Canadian aboriginal leaders have been demanding the recognition of a right of Native self
determination and thereby, for the aboriginal collectivities that choose it a right of self government (102).
Aboriginal self governance is a controversial issue in Canada. Before researching the issue I believed that self
governance would deter national unity, after further investigation, I presently believe that the claim for
Aboriginal self governance is justifiable. Although, according to Blakeney, It will be a real challenge to make
effective

  • 2. Common Sense Essay Common Sense The persuasion towards independence represented through the pamphlet Common Sense, is largely effective. The work portrays the unjust treatment received by the colonies from the mother country, England. Thomas Paine begins with the creation of government, as lived by the colonist, and progresses to the wrongful acts administered by Parliament and the King of England. Finally, Thomas Paine gives confidence to the unity of the colonies, and details a forceful removal of English authority. The argument is set up extensively in the commencement of the pamphlet. Thomas Paine explains how the colonies began governing themselves. The natural governing solution for the people of the new world was a representative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The King, as well as England, begins to forget the colonies are inhabited by English men. The colonists are consistently being stuck with wrongful governing and no election power. In America THE LAW IS KING , but under England the colonies must respect the King as law (98). Unfortunately, the similarities between the two are observed by Thomas Paine as few and far between. Common Sense ventures towards the argument about the peace at mind and military protection provided by the mother country. England gives excuses for the taxes and rulings because of the safety factor they preserve for the colonies. Paine handles this argument by describing the time it would take to produce English armed services on American soil. The lapse would be crucial, and possibly too late. Common Sense portrays some beliefs: We have boasted the protection of Great Britain, without considering, that her motive was interest not attachment; that she did not protest us from our enemies on our account, but from her enemies on her own account, from those who had no quarrel with us on any other account, and who will always be our enemies on the same account. (84) England is protecting the colonies when it is convenient for Her. Paine goes on to point out the convenience presence when it comes to governing and taxing the colonies. Thus Paine expresses a need for a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Imagery And Symbolism In Paper Towns By John Green It s a paper town. I mean look at it, Q: look at all these cul de sacs, those streets that turn in on themselves, all the houses that were built to fall apart. All those paper people living in their paper houses, burning the future to stay warm. (Green, 57)The novel Paper Towns , by John Green is about a boy named Quentin Jacobson, who has spent a life time loving the magnificently adventurous Margo Roth Spiegelman from afar, so when she cracks open a window into his life, he follows. I think a major theme in the novel is seeing the truth in people, and knowing that our view or idea of a person will never be enough to show all that a person really is. Also knowing that people change all the time, and how we see or imagine them to be isn t ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The next two quotes are from Quentin and Margo s conversation, when he finally finds her after months of looking for her. During their conversation about a story that Margo wrote about them, she tells Quentin, The grass got me to you, helped me to imagine you as an actual person. But we re not different sprouts from the same plant. I can t be you. You can t be me. You can imagine another well but never quite perfectly, you know? (Green, 302)The Grass in the novel symbolises the interconnection between people. Although each grass represents a different person, all grasses serve the same purpose which is to interconnect an entire lawn. Using grass as a symbol helped to show that, even though we re all humans, (grass), were not the same persons, we can t ever be or truly understand another person using the ideas and imaginations we have about them, because these are not enough to show who a person really is. The next example of symbolism that I ll be using to prove my thesis represents both individuality and interconnection. This quote is also from Margo and Quentin s conversation, but this time is a quote from Quentin, where he tells Margo, When did we see each other face to face? Not until you saw into my cracks and I saw into yours. Before that we were just looking at ideas of each other, like looking at your window shade but never seeing inside. But once the vessel cracks the light can get in. The light can get out. (Green, 302) In this case the vessels symbolises a combination of both individuality and interconnectedness, because each person is their own vessel, and once they begin to crack, you get the sense of interconnectedness by being able to see inside each other, but if the vessel doesn t crack, they stay in their individuality. Only once a person s outside shell breaks, you can get to know them and see who they really are on the inside. But if it doesn t crack you ll ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As this is a city, there isn t many places where animals can live. Birds can build the nests and bats can live in buildings, but in terms of forestry for example, there isn t much for an animal. So it isn t necessary to go into depth about this. Construction: During the construction phase, there will be a lot happening all over. This may vary from the actual erecting of the building, to the transport of goods, to the extraction of materials needed, etc. There will be a lot of damage done to the o zone layer, a lot of habitat and biodiversity destroyed, amongst other things. Transport of goods: The transport of good is when materials that are needed for the building are transported to the site, generally by vehicles. The problem with this is there would be a lot of materials needed to supply this project. Nitrogen oxide is formed when the combustion of fuels takes place. Vehicles use fuels (oil) as a source of power, which then releases nitrogen oxides into the atmosphere, which is what is destroying our atmosphere. In the UK, this is the biggest pollutant we release. And it is done mostly by cars. Nitrogen oxide, when exposed over a long duration of time, can decrease lung function and also increase the chance of getting bronchitis, cough or phlegm, which is more likely to come into ... • 6. Decolonization in the Hawaiian Islands Essay The people of Hawaii and other Pacific Island Nation groups have experienced great injustice from their colonial powers and the acts of imperialism. Lands were seized, cultural practices banned, language lost, and people were even forced to move away from their homes for the purpose of bomb testing. The United States and other countries abroad sent out representatives to do their work for them; in return their future actions would be justified in describing the Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders as savages that need to have wider powers enforced upon them; thus resulting in a tangled web of political mythologies. The first step in legitimizing the take over of an indigenous person was to make them less human. In Stannard s article ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Hawaiians were further depicted as thieves like the rest of the people in Polynesia, and plagued with the barbaric accusation of committing infanticide. These so called facts were enough for the Euro American forces to send out missionaries to regulate the Hawaiian people and take over their land and all their practices. (Stannard, 381 417) As a result to new people coming into colonizes Hawaii and its people, the Hawaiians suffered many consequences. Formerly, the Hawaiian Islands remained isolated from the rest of the world. Once they were tainted with outside contact, the Hawaiians quickly fell ill with disease causing their population to go on rapid decline. Smaller populations allowed the missionaries to eventually gain more control. Eventually hula was prohibited, as well as the language and other past times, the final straw coming down to Hawaii s illegal annexation. The Hawaiian culture was almost lost completely; but if so it would have been legitimate to the missionaries because they were indeed helping these indigenous peoples become less savage like and closer to God. • 8. Parody In Monty Python s Life Of Brian Monty Python s Life of Brian traces the tragic last year of Brian of Nazareth, a man who shares his exact birthday and town with Jesus Christ, the subject of countless biblical epic films. Comedy distinguishes this biopic, which features a male actor playing the analog of the Virgin Mary, a cured leper begging for alms, and spontaneous song on the crucifix. It is not sufficient, however, to relegate the film to parody, which seems the obvious criticism, simply for taking a comedic outlook. The unique style and construction of many scenes imply that comedy partially motivated the film, but other stimuli clearly contributed to its simple message. Closely analyzing the film s principal utilization of non realistic elements and scenes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this case, the viewer expects the Virgin Mary to accept frankincense, gold, and myrrh. The feminized male voice, the hideous face, the slapstick, and questioning if myrrh is a dangerous animal all interrupt anticipated conventions that are informed by Bible scholarship, history, and a host of previous artistic works. The canonical information that contributes to the viewer s expectations is restored when the mother tells the three wise men that her child is called Brian, thus relinquishing the Christ parody that could have been. The realism that permeates the first few shots allows the payoff joke to work. Production designer and group member Terry Gilliam describes the achieved realism in relation to the intended overall style: We actually wanted to give it a very rich feel, we didn t want it to be too lit. You very often find comedy is over lit, but we wanted it to look like an art film. I don t see any reason why a comedy shouldn t be beautiful. I wanted it to look like an epic: to look rich and have depth of color. The intricate scenes in the film reveal a balance between humor and historical reality that allows it to creatively explore ancient culture without having to rely on other canonical films for a cheap laugh. The movie going public naturally assumes comedy plus history equals parody, which is usually appropriate considering, for example, Robin Hood: Men in Tights (Mel Brooks, 1993), which barely ... The characteristic of this region can be described as: diversity (K Danielson, 2009). In my research paper, I will draw Indonesia as a representation of the whole Southeast Asia region. The reason for doing so is due to Indonesia s diverse characteristic, which I believe is very representative of the region as a whole. By analyzing President Barack Obama s speech: ... There are many factors that can affect the growth of tourism in a certain area. This can include the location of the site, how accessible it is, or the amenities that the site has to offer. Tourism trends are ever changing, with different areas of the market always in growth or decline. Due to changing circumstances of British tourists, this has influenced the way we travel and the places that we now visit for holidays. A variety of factors including; increased car ownership, improved education, improved health and fitness, and a tendency to travel further have all affected how we travel and where to. He was an Austrian neurologist and was better known as the founder of psychoanalysis (1856 1939). Psychoanalysis can be defined as a set of psychological theories which includes the Freudian slip theory. He believed that everyone possess an unconscious mind, feelings, desires and memories in their lifetime. It is to be said that peoples will bring their unconscious content on their mind to their conscious awareness and people will be able to experience catharsis and gain insight into their current state of mind. Freud suggests that it is the conflicts between the conscious views on the reality and the unconscious view on repressed materials that cause such negative mental disturbance such as anxiety, depression and obsession. Researchers took 11 patients with anxiety disorder and measure their brain activity while they were confronted with conscious versus unconscious stimuli. Our country s founding fathers ratified the second amendment as a part of our Constitution in order to protect citizen s right to bear arms and to be prepared for foreign invasion. However, currently the views on gun ownership are beginning to differ even more in urban and rural communities across America because of how each society is individually affected by the use of firearms. The Legal Action Project determined that the main purpose of writing the Second Amendment was to make sure that the federal government would not be able to disarm the militia. Also during the late eighteenth century colonists and even the Founding Fathers wanted reassurance that in case of a standing army there would be a militia ready for a counterattack. The author, James Madison, obviously guarantees that the right to bear arms is a collective right of all the people not just the government s army (Dolan Jr. 71). However many argue that the second amendment only refers to our country s organized army, not the whole population. Their reason for this is that no country should put their lives in the hands of mere civilians. Alexander Hamilton specifies that there are actually two militias; the first is organized, while the second consists of the rest of the people (Dolan Jr. 47). There is no surprise when people hear about how the gun control is openly despised in rural communities. Unfortunately, studies show that social media negatively impacts women s perceptions about their own beauty and self worth; research shows that the media portrays beauty as an unrealistic standard, and due to this, women are suffering from negative body images (Cash Henry, 1995). From models and celebrities to magazines and billboards, unnatural beauty ideals are emphasized to women everywhere. Although they are unrealistic, society has managed to push them on women and make them feel like being natural is not acceptable. Part of the issue is that media does not portray women of all types, shapes, colors, and forms as beautiful (Patton, 2006). Furthermore, an inequality in the beauty standards between males and females must be addressed in order to combat the harmful injustices caused by the unequal expectations of beauty of the sexes. A study done by Engeln Maddox (2005) researched college women s cognitive processing of print advertisements when presented pictures of very attractive female models consistent with ideal beauty standards. The researchers wanted to discover how to images affected the participants and whether critical processing could combat against social comparison. The researchers found that making social comparisons after viewing the pictures is significantly associated with internalizing the beauty ideals which decreases ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These biographical aspects are relevant, in so far that some events of to the Lighthouse are influenced, or mirror them. To the Lighthouse was Woolf s fifth novel and the publication with which she felt that she finally had successfully established herself as a writer (Bell 1980 137). Woolf herself tried to reject her Victorian and Edwardian age literary influences, which constitutes a key feature of modernism in general, but did not fully succeed in doing so (Whitworth 2000 150). These wise words of King James verse (1:5) of the bible portrays an underlying message that although we should follow in God s path, we are not expected to follow blindly. Likewise, in the poem The Tyger by William Blake, it s theme is a reflection of what this quote implies. Throughout this poem, Blake explores the possibility of questioning God while using the structure of the poem, as well as the irony of God s character, and several sound devices in hopes of communicating a message, that to question God is only human nature. First of all, the structure of Blake s poem really contributes to emphasizing it s theme. Roughly the poem is divided into three major parts, the author starts by describing a tiger, a ferocious and deadly animal. He slowly transitions into questioning the creation of the Tyger, which he purposely and carefully organizes as context to the third stage where he will prove what he is trying to convey through this poem. And what shoulder, and what art. Could twist the sinews of thy heart? In each of the poems, both Medusa and the Duke of Ferrara represent the fickleness of power and how it fluctuates in daily life. The bough of cherries some officious fool broke in the orchard for her seems to be a major part of his outrage, as he is offended that she ranked my gift of a nine hundred years old name with anybody s gift . By telling his companion of this in a conversation that merely started with mention of a painting, the Duke reveals that he is very much not in control of himself. These constant tests of his patience which seem very much unintentional on the Duchess part seem to weigh heavily on the Duke s mind as he says here you miss, or there exceed the mark showing heavy criticism on the Duchess. (National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty 7) While a portion of today s society turns a blind eye to the subject of the criminalization of homelessness, an even larger quantity of people are not aware of the situation that is happening in every major city of America. For those living an affluent lifestyle, it can be difficult to discuss the amount of poverty and homelessness that is constantly occurring. The definition and meaning behind the absence of home is also arduous to discuss. While homelessness is commonly associated with sleeping outside or in provisional areas, this word also identifies with an absence of belonging. This absence of belonging can relate not only to a community, but also to the people that dwell there (Baumohl 3). Induction And Induction Essay Deduction and Induction Isabel Bolio A way in which a human being can acquire knowledge is by reasoning through guided principles of validity; which is therefore through logic. This extends our understanding of our surroundings. Within logic there are two branches that lead to reasonable conclusions, these are: inductive and deductive logic. In the following paragraphs this two instruments will be described and exemplified in order to compare them as means to reach logic. Inductive logic is the form to achieve a conclusive and specific knowledge through general rules. It is the urge of humans to construct patterns of observation through time. This example demonstrates how humans draw conclusions without enough examples, therefore another problem arises: how many examples do we need to form a completely truthful conclusion? On the other hand there is the opposite of Inductive logic: Deductive logic. It is the process by which a secure conclusion can be reached through one or more general statements that are otherwise called premises . It goes form general to specific. So if one is equal to two and two is equal to three then we know that one is equal to two. This way of reasoning is easily applied to our ordinary lives an example is: every day I leave to school at eight o clock; I take fifteen minutes and get there on time, therefore if today I leave at eight o clock I will get to school on time. Another example; all students that have high SAT scores do well in collage, a Laura had high SAT scores, she will do well in collage. Equivalently to Inductive reasoning deductive logic has limitations. The issue is that the premises are either drawn form observation or are merely assumptions. This means that the premises of a deductive argument may come from inductive reasoning, which automatically leads us to the previous problems encountered. It may however be that the deductive argument is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Making strange eye contact to those who wear turbans or have Arabic origins. Secluding them from society and making comments of hatred towards their people. But, the people of the Western world do not ever acknowledge what might be causing these attacks in the first place. Westerners brand them as terrorists, they brand themselves as freedom fighters; people argue both ways on this topic. 9/11 was just one of the many effective displays of terror that they can cause among the Western powers. (Typical Case) Back in Cold War era America the U.S government used the CIA to overthrow a dictatorship in Iran. This plan was all fine and dandy, it worked, but this new president wanted to make Iran more like the west. Mohammad Reza Pahlavi relied heavily on American funding and resources to ensure his government s survival. The Iranian people got fed up and eventually overthrew is authoritarian regime; resulting in Reza s almost death and the formation of a new ideal. This new ideal is called Islamic Fundamentalism; the main idea behind this is the combination of Church and state, but also thinking that the religion (Islam in this case) is superior to all other religions. Thoughts like this cause easy disagreements among the mainly Catholic countries of the west, which of course makes them become targets for terrorist attacks. • 37. Network Systems And Their Topology Essay Network Systems As one of the representatives of Corner Shop Realtor, I would like to present the advantages and disadvantages of network systems and their topology. Changing the system of data management in the company will allow the company to keep data more organised and secured, as well as give the company opportunity to expand in other fields of business. Network systems are divided into several categories, depending on their properties and use. The smallest network is a PAN (Personal Area Network) currently the most common is wireless networks used in offices or homes, which typically includes a computer, printer and mobile devices. This is a small personal network, used to transmit data at the lowest level, which can operate independently of the Internet connection. The individual devices are connected to it, in most cases using a Bluetooth or Wi Fi module. LAN (Local Area Network) is a local area network, which can be extended to multiple computers or other devices, e.g. a larger office, hotel or apartment building. LAN allows its users to use the same resources and applications, as well as transfer or exchange files. Communication can take place using copper wires or wireless Wi Fi, and can be independent of the Internet as long as a network card is available. Individual LAN networks link to the larger network of MAN (Metropolitan Area Network), a municipal network. The connection between local networks is via fibre optic cables, or radio waves. ... This book is divided into four sections: No Space, No Choice, No Jobs and No Logo. The first three sections deal with the negative effects of brand oriented corporate activity, while the fourth discusses various methods people have taken in order to fight back. I choose the third section No Jobs. The third part talks about how First World jobs are outsourced, off shored and subcontracted from the Third World countries. Not only has that, these jobs paid low wages that are not even enough to provide for the basic needs. The section chronicles the rise of sweatshops in developing countries. In these ... The factories are cheaply constructed and tossed together on land that is rented and everyone in the zone has the fear that the factories could lift up and blow away and the workers loose their jobs therefore the EPZ factories in Guatemala are called swallows . • 40. The Role Of Parents Sport Socialization Of Youth Research Paper: The Role of Parents in Sport Socialization of Youth Lucas Eckert PSE4UO Introduction Socialization is the process in which an individual becomes a member of society. Parents are the most significant agent in the socialization of their children. They have a tremendous influence on the type of people their children grow up to be. They pass on their beliefs and values to their children and influence their child s personality and morals. In sports, there is also a process of socialization, in which the individual becomes a part of the athletic community. In this process, parents also posses significant influence over their children (Quinton, 2012). They decide whether or not their children play sports, which sports their children may play, and they can greatly affect their child s enjoyment and performance in the sport. This influence can either lead to positive or negative effects on the children s experience with sport. This depends on the level of involvement and the nature of that involvement (Shwarzlose, 2013). The purpose of this paper is to discuss the ways by which parents influence their child s process of socialization in sport, and identify the positive and negative effects associated with the different methods. This paper will also provide several case studies of professional athletes and evaluate the parents involvement in the athletes career. • 41. Cruel Optimism Analysis The writer may suggest that one should not focus their attention on the topic of abortion, but rather live life to the fullest. The author mentioned cruel optimism as an ideology that people intend to achieve in order to become happy in the society. The writer quotes Cruel optimism names a relation of attachment to compromised conditions of possibility whose realization is discovered either to be impossible, sheer fantasy, or too possible, and toxic. What s cruel about these attachments, and not merely inconvenient or tragic, is that the subjects who have x in their lives might not well endure the loss of their object or scene of desire, even though its presence threatens their well being; because whatever the content of the attachment is, the continuity of the form of it provides something of the continuity of the subject s sense of what it means to keep on living on and to look forward to being in the world (94). One law that many employers teeter the line on crossing on day to day bases is the Fair Labor Standards Act. This law prescribes standards for wages and overtime pay, which affect most private and public employment. The act is administered by the Wage and Hour Division. It requires employers to pay covered employees who are not otherwise exempt at least the federal minimum wage and overtime pay of one and one half times the regular rate of pay. There are three basic kinds of phobias: agoraphobia (fear of situations in which escape may be difficult), social phobia, and specific phobias. The DSM IV has separated phobic stimuli into four basic categories: animal, situational, blood injury, and nature environment. (3) Though the experience of phobias is relatively common and their physical characteristics are generally well understood, there is no real consensus on the neurobiological basis of phobias. Instead, there are currently several different models and theories that work to try to understand how and why phobias occur in the human brain. Most hypotheses regarding phobias take a different approach, from biological to psychoanalytic to evolutionary. Is there one model that seems less wrong or more satisfying in our efforts to understand the biology of phobias? Using the various models, how do phobias seem to come about? How does thinking about phobias add to our understanding of the brain and behavior? The classical conditioning model was one of the first theories used to describe phobias. Many years ago, scientists observed that one could willingly elicit a fear response in an animal or human through systematic teaching. For example, if every time a rat is presented with a low buzzing noise, it is electrically shocked, eventually, when it hears the noise alone (with no shock), it will exhibit symptoms of fear.
